General rules:

There is a 10 minute voting period after each post. Non-contradictory votes will be combined as best as possible.

Write-ins for all votes are always welcome and encouraged. They may not all make it into the post or be altered to fit in, but I'll do my best to at least try to address the spirit of the write-in.

Very important or contentious votes may be redone in a stricter voting system as circumstances warrant.

Combat mechanics are up in the air. Suggestions are welcome. We'll be trying some new things out so I appreciate your patience as we fine tune it. Stronger moves tend to take more time and have more cooldown than weaker moves, so beware of that timing. I also want to try a more varied turn system so you and your opponent can do a few things in a row more often. Speed is more important for closing ground, intercepting, and other things and doesn't necessarily mean going first.

Call me out on a mistake and receive a suggestive picture.

Pokemon:
Gobble (Munchlax)
Mace (Roggenrola)
Belladonna (Roselia)

Badges: 1

Recently: You rescued Mace and his boldore friend(?), ran into Val and Belladonna, and had to discipline the small Grass pokemon for mischief.

“Bella. What you did was wrong. Do you understand that?”

She playfully sticks her tongue out and twirls. She’s not taking you seriously.

“You just wait until Laki hears about this.” You pull out the big gun. You can’t help but feel a little bad that this seems to work. She stops messing around and gives you her full attention now.

“I’m not mad. I'm just disappointed you aren't being as good as you could be.”

Her roses droop. That hit harder than you intended. You try to stay strong, despite every urge in your body wanting to hug the adorable little pokemon.

She makes some motions and noises. You’re not like Keira, but you can read the meaning and intent. She’s making excuses and basically saying it was just a joke.

“It wasn’t funny. You could have really caused problems. I’m going to put you away until dinner time. I want you to think about what you did.” You take out her pokeball and tap and feel terrible. That last look she gave you is etched into your head.

“You’d make a good father.” Val tells you, leaning over and offering a warm smile. You keep your eyes up to hers, despite the soft, wet skin showing outside of her small towel. Considering that you were just accused of spying on her, you really put in the effort to not even steal even a subconscious glance.

“Thanks. Laki and I seem to get a lot of practice.”

She gets the same look that Hana gets sometimes. “Y-you do, huh?” Her eyes narrow. It’s like she can’t figure out your meaning, you you in general.

“Yeah. I mean, with the way Bella sees the two of us.”

She puts her hand on her chest and breathes a sigh of relief. “Oh! Of course. This probably sounds silly, but for a second I thought you meant that you two were,” she leans in, “sleeping together.” She laughs again. “How absurd is that? Of course you haven’t slept with Laki.”

You think about how you woke up against Laki a few times. “Well, technically that’s not really true, but it’s not as serious as it sounds. It was just a frie-” You’re cut off at the sound of Gobble knocking over your pans. You laugh. “Are you hungry?”

He nods.

You go find somewhere to get dressed and start doing prep work for dinner while Val heads off back to where she was washing up. You set up a small cooking station and look around figuring out where you’ll sleep.

“Herb!” You hear Val yell. It’s not a panicked tone, but it is concerned. You jog over to see what’s going on. Mace, Gobble, Boldore, and the Mudkip follow.

You see Val still in her towel, pointing to a small blue pokemon. It’s playfully ripping her clothes to shreds!

“Where are your pokemon?” You ask.

She points to her fancy purse next to her clothes. The small pokemon rips out a pocket. You gasp for a moment, but all it does is knock around some lipstick and leave the pokeballs alone. It’d honestly be pretty cute if you didn’t like how well her purse matched her outfit.

Darn. You don’t have any food on hand anymore.

>Send your pokemon over to make it back off. Try to intimidate

>catching more than 3 pokemon on the first island.

I'm not fond of it. I want to slow down. Then again, if it were a rotom or miltank or mawile or a bug, I'd probably be singing a different tune.
>>
>>1049289
We have been on the first island for over 21 threads. I think we can get a new Pokemon about now.
>>
>>1049289
I really would like a Rotom or a bug type. I had a Rotom names KOOPS in my platinum that my friends absolutely hated battling and in my Y as well. Rotoms are fun and annoying one of the three electric types I like, magnemite line, Rotom and the electabuzz line
>>
>>1049289
Normally I'd agree with you, but other Anon is right. It's been a while, and we could certainly do worse than an adorable gator friend.
>>
>>1049289
I think we should avoid getting more than 6 Pokémon, but wild mudkip are a once in a lifetime chance that I'm not gonna pass up
>>
>>1049297
>>1049302
>>1049308
Eh, we just have no need for a water type, and gobble will learn high horsepower or mace can learn tm earthquake for ground. I guess I'm not 100% against one joining our team, but I don't want Herb to battle-catch. Never ever.
>>
>>1049214
>Go say hi. It’s risky, but it’s your way
And invite it for dinner. This should be tastier than Val's clothes.
>>
>>1049327
Well we can say hi and make friends to make it stop then let it decide.
>>
It's gonna want to bite something, do we have anything we can sacrifice for it to chew on?
>>
>>1049337
Our fishing rod will catch us a water type yet
>>
>>1049327
Getting a surfer would be nice so we weren't dependent on Laki's wailmer. It also gives us a Pokémon that can dive with us, which will be needed for exploring the blue hole in the north of the map.

Gobble can learn surf, but having a Pokémon invincible to electric attacks would be nice.
>>
>>1049343
I was thinking the pan we use for self defense I'd rather not ruin the rod, we still need to help Hana with the Chinchou.
>>
>>1049350
Old Rod is a stick and string. We are not gonna fuck up that pan.
>>
>>1049337
Nobody's using the macho brace any more.
>>
>>1049355
We could try getting it fixed, but those things are made to take punishment. Probably the best bet
>>
>>1049358
Well I don't think we've used our winnings from the gym right? We were supposed to use it to buy the explosion TM for Mace so we could do that or repair the brace or even buy a new one.

“Hi.” You cautiously approach. The energetic little pokemon doesn’t seem to pay you any attention. “Hi!” you say again, louder.

You look back. Val is pulling on her face, worried about how this is going to turn out.

“My name is John, but my friends call me Herb. What’s your name?” You feel foolish after asking that, but you hope the intention is clear.

You looks over to you. Eyes wide with excitement and with a big smile. It leaps into the air right at you! It’s mouth is wide open and ready to bite. You need to make a split second decision. After Raichu's attack, you just don't know.

I'll put down a vote of protest on the hug it move. I'm sure it's playing around, but a lot of animals bite as part of playing. If this is a young Totodile (guessing it is by the seeming ADHD), it'll probably bite down harder than it intends too.

Cyndaquil was my first pokemon and it was pretty much the only pokemon I even used when I was like 4-7 years old.

I ended up defeating Red with my level 100 Typhlosion and nothing but a bunch of level 10-20 HM slaves.

On impulse I started a new game because I enjoyed the game a lot and wanted to experience the adventure again, but I was struck by a profound depression when I did.

Still, fast forward a couple decades and these days I don't really like any starters. I prefer not to use them, even.

Feels kind of generic, you know? I want my team to consist of mons I caught myself in the wild, something about receiving a one of a kind mon in a lab felt really sterile to me.

>>
>>1049524

https://youtu.be/I7fZZUfvx0s?t=21m

You can "domesticate" pretty much anything. The danger never really goes away completely with more wild and instinctual creatures, but you can get damn close to having one as a pet if you're smart and understand their psychology.
>>
You decide to trust it. After all, one bad experience shouldn’t change your attitude, right?

You open your arms wide and close your eyes shut.

“Herb!” You hear. You hope you’re right about this.

You feel hot breath and teeth on your neck, then a sharp pain. You spin and grab your neck as the pokemon leaps off of you. Your mind reels trying to figure out what happened. Are you okay? Are you dying?

You feel on your neck some more. You don’t feel any blood, just a sharp pain. It must have been superficial.

The pokemon is facing you with it’s back turned to the others. It rips something to shreds. You look closer and see it’s got the stone your brother gave you. But what it’s shredding is the fabric of the thin rope you used as a necklace. Well, that could have gone a lot worse.

Your hand is still on your neck. You look to Val and the pokemon, and they have a look of absolute horror. Before you can say anything, the pokemon is pelted with Rock Blasts. It’s head cocks forward from the impact. Gobble is running up now too, winding up a punch.

Gobble found out the secret is to not roll. Then we have all the bad dice instead of her.

>>

Well we don't know the DCs you are going for.

Gobble is just trying to stem the anger of being scared before it happens.

Rolled 82 (1d100)

>>1049646
[That's a good point. I like the suspense, but maybe I should post them in the options.

Rolling for Gobble's attack.]
>>

Poor Gobble. Little guy's going to be traumatised.

>>
>>1049661
Think Gobble is gonna have to sit Herb down and explain everyone is not your friend?
>>

Don't that will just curb everyone into picking safer options, sometimes it's better to go with what we think Herb will do or what he thinks he should do.
>>
>>1049661
Also I wouldn't post exact DCs, takes some of the magic out of it.
>>
Sorry I'm late, seems the dice have decided to be mediocre today.
>>

Well, just putting a range of what D.C.'s correspond to what indicators (e.g. Very hard = D.C. 70-90) in the op could provide some mystery while helping our judgement. You'll want to include that table, too.

I prefer what you did in the above post with general descriptions of difficulty. Keeps us from being entirely in the dark about the relative difficulty of our choices, but also gives some wiggle room in adjusting the result if we're particularly clever/stupid.

The dice are still balancing out for the time anon rolled crits 3 times in a row. Also Gobble didn't roll bad, so he didn't Focus Punch us.

Right, the idea is to give us an idea of what "hard" means. Is it an under 10% chance? 5%?

Eh, I don't know that boiling it down to something that transparent is really necessary. I think the way Gobble does it now works fine.

Blorp made another quest based off of Hyperdimension Neptunia with Dwarf Fortress main character. It was meh, and he also left during the switch from /tg to /qst.

“Look out!” You yell as you rush over to try to grab it out of the way.

The pokemon is still trying to figure out what hit it as you run. It looks up at you just in time for Gobble’s fist to impact it in the back. You’re too slow.

The small pokemon makes a pathetic squeak and goes limp as it’s head and limbs try to follow it’s body as it sails into you. You catch it and feel it go limp. It’s cute little eyes look up and seem to ask “why” before it slips into unconsciousness.

Everyone is looking at you as you cradle the poor little guy.

“Herb, are you alright?” Valerie runs over and looks at your neck. “I don’t think I’m going to be able to sleep tonight.” she says, breathless. She examines the pokemon. “Oh. He’s out like a light.”

Mace and Gobble look relieved. You guess from their perspective, things looked a lot scarier than they actually were. Gobble looks a little guilty. The cute face on this pokemon must melt his heart as much as yours.

“What are you going to do now?” The blonde girl asks. You peer over her and see the Mudkip and Boldore watching from the sidelines.

You feel terrible. “Come on, lil’ guy. Let’s get you some rest and a hot meal.”

You take him back to camp. Gobble keeps looking up at him. Once you’re back, you lay him down on a soft bed of leafs and get to work boiling some water. You’re tired, and with a group this big, stew sounds like a good idea.

“Quite the following you’ve developed.” Val says. She insisted on helping. She’s not nearly as fast or precise with cutting as Hana. Actually, she’s pretty bad at this in general. More of a hindrance than a help. You guess you can forgive her, though. She’s wearing some of your spare clothes since hers were destroyed. She has plenty of outfits, but they’re all on her yacht.

Boldore and Mace are chatting. Mace seems really distracted since you got him back, and you’re starting to think it’s not just from being tired.

Valerie ends up misunderstanding your instructions and putting in way more salt than you had asked. Luckily it’s before you tossed everything into the pot. You sigh and get ready to dump out the water and start over.

She pets Totodile and Mudkip with her freshly washed hands, then goes back to grab some more food to cut up.

Hes talking to an evolved form of himself. Its something he thinks is a terrible idea, but now hes getting information from someone who actually went through it.

Plus, he also couldn't control his own energy, and took off across the fucking world, which is something that anyone who has ever slammed a door on accident or broke something because they used too much strength will understand.
>>
>Explain what she did wrong. Spend time teaching her some cooking basics
The work never ends. Helping people and pokemon alike, Herb is the man to which all men should aspire.

But seriously, teach her some shit. Maybe ask how often she's had the opportunity to cook for others, and stretch that into what she's hoping to get out of her journey. Multitasking is essential for a cook, so she may as well try holding a conversation while she learns!

“Valerie, wait.” You gently grab her hand before she lays it on the fresh food. You point out that she just finished washing her hands and then touched wild pokemon.

She looks embarrassed, but gives a small laugh, too. You spend some time showing her some basics of how to cook.

Valerie, while having a lot of good intentions, doesn’t seem to grasp how much work is actually involved in, well, pretty much everything. She dives into each task with a smile, but gives up easily, feeling discouraged at the first road bump.

It takes triple the normal amount of time, but you two end up having some fun with it after a while. She even swipes a food covered finger on your nose and laughs. As tired as you are, you do too. She’s pretty charming, once she opens up.

You talk a little about your home lives. She’s more interested in hearing about yours than talking about hers. She takes it all in and only really looks surprised when you mention things like how your grandpa used an old wood stove, or when your mom got really mad at your dad for breaking that new washing machine.

“You know, Herb. I have absolutely no idea what to make of you.” Valerie says, scooping up some stew. She turns around offers you a sip from the ladle. “What do you think about me? Absolute honesty. Don’t hold anything back.”

You take a sip. It's edible. Not great, but edible. It reminds you of what your little brother accomplished after that two week period he wanted to be a cook like you.

Dad warned you about these questions from a girl.

Bring up her consideration of Hana's recharging, or her simple willingness to help you cook here. You never pushed her for that, after all. She just did it, and that speaks volumes about where her priorities lie when she's dealing with people - help where you can.

We don't know her whole story, though. I'm sure she could nuance our view of her if she spoke with us more. She avoids talking about herself in general, and she needs to learn to get over that. She may have grown up differently from others due to her status, but everyone has something like that separating them from others.

When she learns how to talk comfortably about her own life without fear of alienating people, then she'll know she's done it. It'll be hit-and-miss in the meantime, though, so if she wants to unload when the small slips start to pile up then we'll be available. Just don't expect anything too spectacular out of us, because we're not any more special than she is.
>>
>>1050183
I really feel the spoiled part of that one option is a bit much, she never acts spoiled to any degree.
>>
>>1050192
I can see how that makes sense, up until the part where we say we're not sure if she can stick it out. I'd rather say it could be challenging, but Keira and Hana have had isolated lives, and they're managing to connect. Why couldn't she?

“You’re pretty.” You tell her as you step forward and take another taste test from the ladle.

“Herb.” She sounds a bit surprised. You are standing pretty close. Her lack of bra becomes obvious as her chest moves up and down.

“I think you’re really disconnected from everyone else, though. Maybe even spoiled. I don’t know if that’s the right word.” Her eyebrows go up in surprise, but she restrains herself from saying anything. “But you’re trying. You’ve been really considerate about Hana, and putting yourself out there learning to cook. You genuinely want to help, and that says a lot about you. I don’t know a lot about you and I could be wrong. I’m just going off what I’ve seen so far. I get that you’ve grown up a bit differently than everyone else, and I think you’re a little overly conscious of that. You let it be something bigger than it is. When you learn to talk comfortably with people without worrying about weirding them out, you’ll do great. It just might be a lot of effort getting from here to there, but a lot of mistakes on the way. If that happens, I’m here for you to listen. But I don’t really know where I am on my own journey, so don’t expect me to be all that great about it either, okay?”

You really went off on a thing there. The silence is killing you.

“Nobody’s ever talked to me like that before.” She says, flatly. “Thank you.” After a few blinks, her blank eyes get a little bit of life into them. “Thank you. I mean it.” She gives you a hug. It starts out a little awkward. she holds you tight and you flinch when she touches where you got zapped before. “Sorry! I uhh, guess I need to practice that, too.”

You both laugh. You’re not a big initiator of physical contact, either. You get it.

You take out Belladonna. “It’s dinner time.” You offer her some food. She warily takes it and starts eating, but keeps an eye on you. You think she’s trying to figure out what your feelings are towards her right now.

Totodile is up and moving around, but still very much far from a threat. He makes himself right at home when you offer some food.

Gobble is slobbering at this point and downs his stew too fast, burning his tongue and running around. As odd as it sounds, you’re almost glad, because it takes his mind off of feeling guilty about Totodile. It’s not serious.

Mace and Boldore eat together. After Boldore gets a fill, he gives you a casual salute and heads off into the woods.

“Is he going to be okay?” You ask Mace.

Mace nods, watching his friend leave. He really does seem to have a lot on his mind.

Bella makes a noise as she finishes her meal. She’s making a play for your attention.

You go to Totodile and Mudkip. On your way over, you stop to give Bella a quick hug and a pat on the head.

She looks incredibly relieved. There’s still some unfinished business there, but just knowing where she stands seems to lift a lot off of her shoulders.

You split the leftovers between these two and Gobble. Gobble is eager to down his quickly.

Mudkip is more restrained. It’s a bit shy, but hungry, too. It gives you a happy smile from the food. You guess it sees the wait as worth it. Once it’s done, it rubs its head against your leg, the Valerie’s. It’s a friendly pokemon, but seems to need a lot of encouragement to get out of it’s shell. You can understand that.

Totodile, seemingly having forgotten the events of the day, quickly eats his. With some practice, he might give Gobble a run for his money. He leaps over and shreds the remain rags of Val’s clothes. He burps her tiny pink pnaties up and you pretend not to notice.

Wait. Those, the thin rope, the pocket lining of her purse... “It’s the fabric!”

Val looks over to you. The Mudkip in her hands licks her face. “What?”

“Everything Totodile tore to shreds, it’s made of the same stuff.”

Totodile goes back to ripping up her panties and looks up. He makes a playful growl noise. You toss him a sock from your bag made of out the same fabric. He absolutely destroys it before it lands.

“I think you’re onto something.” Valerie says. “Maybe he has an owner.” She taps him with a pokeball.

Boop. Boop. Boop. Click!

“Oh!” She covers her mouth. “I didn’t expect that to work.”

You both look at each other. The story behind this little guy starts to become clear. He used to have an owner, but now he doesn’t.

“I.. oops I didn't mean to- Did you want...” She holds the ball out to you.

“Yeah, I’ll take him.” Assuming he’s okay with that. You lift the pokeball from her hands. You have a feeling about it, despite not knowing him for very long. Your eyes turn to the Mudkip nestling on her lap. “Looks like you have a new friend too.”

She looks down at the little water pokemon. It’s hidden it’s face in her lap and looks like it’s fallen asleep. “Cute.” She comments.

“So, you like Mudkips?”

She scratches it. It sleepily curls into a ball. “I do now. I think we might have a lot in common, too.” She smiles. You couldn't agree more.

You take out Totodile. It looks up at you with it’s mouth hanging open.

“Hey. Look. I know we don’t know each other that well, but I think we might get along. Do you want to join me and my friends?”

It looks past you to Bella, Gobble, and Mace. Mace pretends not to be listening. Belladonna is openly watching and looking a little jealous at the attention he’s getting. Gobble is satisfied and burps.

He looks at your neck, then shrinks a little. When you lift your hand to touch your neck, he flinches.

“This? Well, you shouldn’t bite people, but we’ll work on that together, okay?”

He suspiciously assesses you, but then nods. He wants to join the team!

“Welcome aboard!” You motion over to Mace. “Hey, Mace. You haven’t really had a chance to say hi yet, right? Come on over.”

Mace pretends like you’ve just gotten his attention, and he totally didn’t even notice what was happening. He heads on over. Totodile playfully bites him and gets his jaws stuck. Mace looks less than impressed, but not seriously upset.

You go back to Bella. She makes a motion to lift her up.

We know she did it because she thought it would be funny. We know she didn't really think about how it might damage our relationship with Val, or that coming clean later wouldn't have patched things up between us and Val since she would have been ashamed that she didn't believe us at the time.

Just put some more thought into how her pranks should work out. It's better if she doesn't set people up against each other since she isn't the one who gets to patch things up later.

“Come on.” You pat your lap. “Take a seat.” You remember how your dad did this once.

Bella rolls her eyes, but she walks over and sits.

“Hey now.” You warn. She sits up straight and listens. “Bella, I want to talk about what you did before.”

She makes a pleading noise and pulls at your shirt.

“It’s okay, I’m not still upset. But I want to know, why did you do it?”

She looks away and pokes her flowers together.

“Bella.”

Bella sighs and starts pantomiming. You really wish you could understand pokemon the way Keira does. From what you can gather, she thought it would be funny, she thought you liked pranks because Keira is a big fan of them, and she thought you and Valerie would end up-

“Belladonna!” You gasp. “Where did you learn such things?”

She continues making obscenely lewd gestures.

“Okay! Okay! I get it!” You make her stop. “But you need to understand that some pranks can really hurt relationships.”

You have a bit of a talk with her about what is and isn’t appropriate. She seems to mostly get it. Mostly. Towards the end, you show her a prank that’s fine by playing it on her. It’s the best prank in the world. “I have your nose!”

She desperately leaps for your hand to get it back. It takes her a few seconds before she realizes she doesn’t have a nose.

You laugh and play together. It goes on until things start getting really dark. Valerie invites you into her giant tent to sleep.

The next morning goes by like a blur. Not because it’s fast, but because you’re sore and tired. You help pack up, make a quick breakfast, and head back to the temple. You’re thinking about what sort of nickname to give Totodile as you watch him hop around in front and chomp random branches and other objects.

“I meant what I said before, Herb. You’d really make a good dad. And thanks for your honesty before. I guess we both have a lot of work to get ourselves out there, don’t we?”

You look at the blonde girl. She’s wearing your clothes, her hair is all disheveled because you both wanted to get back early in the morning. Oddly enough, she looks cuter than ever.

You’re almost there, you probably won’t get another chance to talk privately for awhile.

Added challenge level - let the other person decide what they'll do. I say Val should take Hana out for a night. See the sights, eat at a restaurant, etc etc. Girl hasn't had many friends and has been locked up for a while, and Hana's mentioned wanting to experience more from life.

I'm interested in what Val would come up for us.

“Thanks!” You’re feeling a lot closer to her than you did before. “You know what I was thinking? Both of us should do something outgoing.”

“I’m quite feeling like I’m doing something a tad outgoing right now.” She gestures to her outfit. Well, your outfit.

“No. I mean, we should make pact. Hold each other accountable. Like a buddy system for being less shy.”

She perks up. “Oh. Oh I like that idea.” She claps her hands together. “We can come up with something for the other person to do!”

Oh, that’s interesting. If it were someone like Laki or Jane, you’d be too paranoid to do something like this, but Valerie is different. “Okay. Let’s do it.”

You both walk and think about a challenge to give to the other. A few ideas come to mind, but you’re not able to settle on anything.

“Okay, how about this. We’ll talk tonight with a challenge for the other person. I’ll call you.”

“Sounds good.”

Wow. You never knew you two would hit it off like this. Heck, with everyone. You’ve never really been the most popular or charismatic person, but you’ve been putting yourself out there ever since the start of your journey, and you’re making progress.

“Bro!” You see Polu run towards you. “Bro! Val gal!”

“Val gal?” She raises an eyebrow.

He punches your arm. Ow. “Dude. You look like you had an adventure. And Val...you’re...dressed in his clothes.”

You explain about the Totodile. As you do, the others arrive to greet you to see why Polu is laughing so hard.

Val gets more and more embarrassed as they each recite it. You feel a little bad. But she likes it better than the other assumption.

If he brings up the battle, tell him we concede. We both put up a good fight, but ultimately we weren't going to push hard enough win at the end - it would have cost us too much.

It doesn't look like I'll be awake to swap challenges with Val. Please count the Hana idea as one of the options (and put my vote to it)!

Some other ideas since I won't be up for it:
>A date with Laki
Try to fit her for cute clothes and do girly things in general. It''s not a side of her that sees the light of day often, so both Val and Laki should benefit from it.
>Spend a couple nights at someone's house
Pretty self explanatory. I doubt Val has done it without other people watching over her, though. >Alternate: Spend a night with everyone in the group.
Could be at someone's home, could be out in the field, could be while winding down from some adventure. Spend those nights getting to know those people better, and share at least one personal thing each time Challenge starts from the day we issue it. Yes, this means she has to spend another night with us. We like her, after all, and would like to see her more often.

Night, Gobble! Night, anons!

“Hey everyone. We made some new friends!” You take out Totodile. Valerie sees what you’re doing and sends out Mudkip. You didn’t see when she officially caught it, but you slept pretty hard.

“Say hi!” She encourages her Water pokemon. It hides behind her leg and only peaks around. But it’s adorable. Even Jane has a soft look on her face. She quickly changes it when you see her see it, though.

Totodile has the opposite problem. Instead of being too shy, he runs around, and sometimes on top of, everybody. It reminds you a bit of Keira. He sniffs up Hana’s leg, looks confused, and starts nosing towards her crotch. He playfully growls.

“Alright!” You quickly put him away. “Totodile and Mudkip!”

You all chat for awhile and everyone gathers up their stuff, splitting up a little bit, coming back together, and really dragging their feet. When you’re alone for a moment, the monk who messed up your pokedex comes out and gives you the TM. “I worked all night. I didn’t get a chance to test it, but that’s as clean is it can get.”

You don’t see any reason to doubt him. You thank him for going to the effort. You didn’t really mean to cost him a whole night. He insists it’s fine, saying there’s a proverb about hard work being the path to forgiveness. He vanishes before you can say more.

Polu comes back and slaps you on the back. “So, you’ve been getting around with the girls, huh?”

You hold out and stutter. “N-nothing happened! We’re just friends.”

“Yeah huh. You know we can talk about this stuff, right bro? No need to be shy.” He teases.

You take it in stride. While you’re talking, you offer to settle your battle with him.

“Alright bro, but how about the next time we meet? Aron and Mace can 1v1. Until then, I’m considering this a tie.”

You do something you feel shy about. But after your talk with Valerie, and Hana before that you feel like you should push yourself. You grab his hand. It’s not a normal handshake, it’s a corny, manly grasp. “Sounds good, bro.”

His eyes sparkle. He forcibly grasps it back. “Your on, you son of a bitch!” You jerk forward from his pull.

You’re at a bit of a loss. That was more intense than you expected.

“Too much?” He gives you a quick bro hug instead. “Alright, but we’re on next time. No slacking on that training.” And with that, he lets you go, lefts his bag, kicks up his surfboard and catches it, and whistles as he walks off.

That’s so cool.

“That’s so corny.” Laki puts an arm around your neck. “But who am I to judge your lameness?”

Keira comes out too, finishing up some sort of formal bow She comes running over.

Hana and Val come over too. Hana fidgets for a moment, then gives Laki a hug. She formally bows to Keira. Keira though, gives her a hug. Hana avoids touching her skin, though.

Hana gives you a very quick hug, too. “Fishing again, next time we meet up, okay?”

“Sure.”

She smiles and runs off. Val goes with her.

That leaves Jane. She watches you, seeing what you’ll do.

>>
You walk up with all the confidence you can muster. To be honest, it’s not all that much because your really good looking clothes got messed up and you feel like an uncoordinated mess, but she doesn’t need to know that.

You reach out to shake her hand. “Jane.”

She hesitates. But only for a second. John.” Her voice is flat, but there’s this slightly respectful tone behind it, somewhere.

On the third shake, you pull her in for a hug. Jane immediately tenses up and tries to do something with your arm, but she’s so caught off guard at the prospect of a hug that you manage to land it without her being able to turn it into a grab. You hold it for a few seconds, then let go and leave. You only see her face for a second, but it’s total surprise, and a little red.

You go catch up with Keira and Laki. Keira is wide eye’d and optimistic as you approach the beach. Laki is laughing hysterically at you hugging Jane, pessimistically congratulating you and doing the something she’s sure will get under that bitches skin.

“She’s not that bad.” You tell Laki.

Laki gives you a funny look, but decides not to press it. “So, neither of you managed to win that battle, huh? Too bad.” She leans in close. Really close. Her hand works it’s way down from your chest to just inside your waistline. “I think you would have really liked your reward.”

You freeze up and she laughs. “You’re too easy, Soft Hands. Now come on, get ready.” She throws out her pokeball.

You look back to the island. This is it. The next step in your pokemon journey. A life-changing experience where you figure out who you are. What you want to do. Why you want to do it. Not just in a superficial sense, but in a deep, emotional and spiritual sense, too. You’re going to learn a lot about pokemon, about yourself, about the region, and about the way the world works.

You can’t wait! Mostly!

[That’s it for tonight. Next thread should be Tuesday ideally. Think up names for Totodile. Next time we’ll vote on that, reveal the TM, see the next island and all sorts of shenanigans!]

Good storyline

>>
So any ideas how we should train Mace for his big match? I think that if there's one special thing we should try to do, it's teach him Gravity. I wouldn't be surprised if Aron has evolved into Aggron by then, and Gravity will help give Mace a leg up against bigger opponents. It'll also help with flying opponents and landing moves like stone edge later on. I bet we could combine it with sandstorm to cool effect, too.

Regardless, I want to meditate with Mace.
>>
>>1053936
Whoops I meant Lairon.
>>
>>1053936
Only issue I see for that is that Lairon is a late evo, 33 iirc
>>
>>1054214
31. I think that's 6 levels away for Aron max, based on the moves used.
>>
>>1054214
>>1054218
Given that we likely won't see him for awhile, Lairon is pretty likely.
>>
>>1054226
So, given that Lauren is so heavy, and we have some time, do you think we should go for gravity, or a different training regiment.
>>
>>1054323
We NEED to focus on an outlet for that energy. I suggest going for attempting to dodge mostly and speed secondarily.
>>
>>1054338
Well, with luck our tm might be able to help with that.
>>
So on our next training day, we should ask mace what's on his mind, and practice energy control.

Bella should probably see what moves her new body is capable of. Try out poison sting, leech seed, magical leaf, grass whistle, giga drain, and, if that's all easy, toxic spikes.

Gobble, we should try and teach screech, recycle, and body slam. If those are easy, we can try stockpile. We should also probably ask what he thinks about evolution. I kind of want to ask him to hold off, since he has missable moves and I'm not sure we can manage feeding a snorlax quite yet.

Toto needs evaluation- we should find out what moves he knows and what his ability is. He might just surprise us. I wonder what nature he is too.
>>
>>1054462
Actually, come to think of it, if gobble learns recycle then feeding him might become a whole heck of a lot easier as a snorlax. Just cook him a turkey or whatever and he can keep summoning more every time he eats one.
>>
>>1054468
We should also take a swing at metronome training for gobble too, if we're lucky he might just be able to nab some new moves for free.
>>
Hey Gobble, what day did Herb arrive on Loanah? I want to try keeping track of how long certain things have been going on, like Bella's age. Also, does your setting use the normal Jan-Dec calendar, or are there, like, 18 different type associated months lasting 3 weeks each totaling 378 day long years?

>>
>>1056285
Oh, and I'm betting Toto will evolve shortly. They usually do so at level 18, so even if he's fairly low level, it shouldn't take long.

I wonder what happened with his trainer. Was Toto abandoned? Lost? Escaped? Released?
>>
>>1056321
Pretty sure released. I think if he was still registered the Pokeball should have failed (going by Val's surprise over actually catching him).
>>
>>1056370
That's a good point, if he was escaped I don't think he should have been catchable. I still wonder what sort of terms they separated on.

It could also have been something really specific, like a totodile breeder's fence broke.

I'll admit, im not 100% sold on totodile. We just... didn't need a water type at all. I'll see how I feel later though.
>>
>>1056458
>I'll admit, im not 100% sold on totodile. We just... didn't need a water type at all.
We're in goddamn tropical islands. That calls for cozy deep-sea diving, and that's completely indisputable.
>>
>>1056472
that's why I wanted the mudkip

why did people prefer toto to mudkip? It has less STAB moves and doesn't have a mega
>>
>>1056493
eh, I'm neutral when it comes to water starters (my favorite water type is Relicanth) at least toto can learn dragon dance and maybe teach it to gobble since he likes dancing.
>>
>>1056493
It's a fucking alligator.
>>
>>1056493
I didn't want either, and while normally I'd pick Mudkip, I saw that Val wanted it, so if I hadn't picked neither, I would have picked toto.

>>1056472
That makes sense, and I do hope Feraligatr can do cross-island swimming. I'd just rather have a duel type, like slowpoke, marill, barboach, carvanha, mantyke, tympole, gastrodon, dewpider, or frillish.

>>1056538
That's a definite plus. I'm kind of excited for hydro cannon, too.

>>1056527
If we did that, I'd like to do it at the dragon temple. Considering how munchlax doesn't normally learn it and all. Something far outside the norm should have an equally cool reason.
>>
>>1056588
Wasn't Gobble open to possibly bullshitting/coming up with some new megas? I could easily see some sort of Water/Dragon or Water/Dark for Feraligatr if it was absolutely needed. That may have been voted against, I don't remember.

Ignoring that, IMO, going super perfect type coverage and only-highly-competitive mons isn't really the point of this run. We've already been champion prior, so there'd be a lot less surprises a second time around. We weren't even really going try-hard then, but now we have even less reason to. Anime rules are on our side, too.

Slice of life, motherfucker, do you into it?
>>
>>1056640
I can into that. But there's a side to being powerful beyond competitiveness. The wilderness is dangerous, and we're unlucky. Having good coverage means being able to protect ourselves. Say we angered a primape. Bella resists fighting, but can't hit it super effectively. What if it had areal ace or something?
>>
>>1056716
All-mons-and-frying-pan skirmish? We start packing a firearm or giant bladed spoons/forks? Hide behind Laki and/or Hana?

Concern for safety is understandable, though.
>>
>>1056458
Honestly, Snorlax can learn Bulldoze. Then we just need any fairy type for complete Coverage. Heck we could have gotten cutiefly earlier (which I wanted to, I'm still sad it didn't want to come with us) and had complete coverage and not need any more mons. Why do we even need six mon anyways?

Sure we don't get STAB on all types, but it really doesn't matter since we want coverage for super effectiveness and it'll be enough to take down a Mon without it.

In my mind Toto needed Herb and we didn't pick Gobble or Mace because we thought they'd have great team comp but because they needed our help and they wanted to travel with us. I think the toto will need Herb in a similar way. Also I really liked toto's personality. He seems like he'll be trouble and fun. Conflict is the spice of life after all.

>>1056640
I agree with a lot of what this anon said. I'm not sure if there will be Mega Evolutions, but I do look forward to getting to know our mons and forming closer bonds between trainer and mon.

If you think back to the last quest our mons were in their Pokeballs (except maybe Vlad or Aria) like 80% of the time. I could also be totally misrembering. This time around they've been out pretty much constantly. No doubt intentional on Gobble's part, but it's a very nice change of pace.

That's going to be less doable when several of them are massive beastly monsters, but still.
>>
>>1056736
I'd go for a skirmish if it were the best option at the time, but there's a reason 1-2 trainers directing 1-2 mon is the basic formula. It works. And a diverse team is the best way to do that.

But honestly, we can manage just fine if we make a point of having diverse movepools.

>>1056816
>>1056845
Preach.
>>
>>1056845
>>1056880
I think not having at least 6 robs people from having their favorite, or another personality to interact with.
>>
>>1056640
Hmm... I want to see our friends whip out the custom Megas. I can see Jane whipping out a mega hitmonlee. I'd really like to see a truly massive mega wailord. Mega aggron already exists. Nobody else is that competitive.
>>
>>1057015
Megas suck. Anyways we already have plenty of slow defensive Pokemon. Did you not know the power of Sheer Force + Dragon Dance Gator?
>>
>>1055544
[I actually lost track of the days. To be honest I've been considering being a bit time-fucky for things like developing skills. For example, John is already a bit stronger after only a few days of pushing himself with various activities, and pokemon training and development is sped up more than you'd expect from any real animal. It's a bit of a cheat, but I think it's better for the sake of the quest than being too realistic. The setting uses a Jan-Dec calendar purely for the sake of being more accessible.]
>>
>>1057426
Honestly, I had just chocked Herb's quick gains up to island magic. And Pokémon are distinctly neither man nor mundane beast- they grow far faster than either, but while they can think complexly like humans, they're also way more instinctual, and are okay with being owned, like an animal. I'd like to try my hand at keeping track of the date for things like birthdays, seasons, and holidays. That's why I want to know the date.
>>
>>1057426
>>1057450
Well let's count the days then. Day 1 was arriving on the island and meeting everyone. It ended with everyone camping out together.
>>
>>1057454
Day two was spelunking, and Bella's birthday!
>>
>>1057546
I think day three started with catching wailmer and ended with escorting drunk lake back.
>>
>>1057558
Day four started with getting mace examined, and ended with us getting knocked the fuck out by crabrawler.
>>
>>1057564
Day five started with challenging the gym, and ended naked with Keira.
>>
>>1057565
Day 6 started naked with Keira, ended at home.
>>
>>1057576
Day seven started with fishing, ended in the temple. Bella evolved!
>>
>>1057583
Day eight started with getting a shard, ended rich girl camping. Bella turned one week old.
>>
>>1057584
Day nine is ongoing. We caught toto.

I've had an idea for a while that when we do a contest, we should have gobble, mace, and bella stack up totem-pole style so that bella will be tall enough for us to waltz with her.
>>
Does anyone have any hopes for the mystery tm? I know explosion could be nice, but I'm kind of hoping for hidden power. If we're lucky we could get some nice coverage out of it. However, it stands to note that hidden power can't be fairy type. It could still be psychic or flying though. Substitute, or either half of the rest/sleep talk combo would be nice too. We might just be able to get gobble to teach the combo though.
>>
>>1059790
Any Tm will be useful in the quest, Rain Dance or Surf could be cool. Earthquake, Bulldoze, Shadow Ball, or Dazzling Gleam would be great coverage moves. Toxic would be a great for a status effect. Really, I'm sure we'll find a use for the Tm even its none of those.
>>
>>1059881
Imagine if its giga impact.
>>
>>1059881
>>1059894
Knowing us, it'll be another copy of volt switch.
>>
>>1059908
I'd accept that assuming we rolled for the TM and just got horribly unlucky with it, otherwise I'd really hope for something at least a bit usable.
>>
>>1059894
Giga impact would be cool if Gobble can learn it as a Munchlax otherwise not all that useful.

>>1059908
I doubt it'll be another VoltSwitch, but I could believe it could be a TM none of our mons can learn. Could happen.
>>
>>1059997
Wait. Holy fuck. Gobble is goddamn broken. Recycle works on items used by fling. Fling can throw any held item. Gobble can clone anything he can throw. Berries. Dinners. Gold nuggets. Fishing bait. Pokeballs. We're rich.
>>
>>1060096
I see it more as just quickly finding the item you threw/dropped and picking it up off the ground. The fact it can fail against opponents with the ability Pickup I feel supports this, can't recycle something when they already did it for you.

I will admit it gets silly with berries, but in game I think the intent is that Pokemon just take a bite out of it and drop it rather than devour it whole. ...Though that said, its interaction with Leppa Berries is still magic.
>>
>>1060189
While that's ultimately reasonable, I find the idea of recycle perfectly restoring items that should disperse or shatter (like shoal salt, sacred ash, relic vase, etc.) too funny/interesting to pass up on. Plus, I really like the idea of Gobble summoning up seconds, and thirds, and fourths, and fifths, and sixths of his favorite foods. It'll save Herb money, at least.

As for pickup, I figure that's just magic. Once an item is considered to no longer be held by you, you can't recycle of it because of how recycle's magic works.

Combat mechanics involve three rolls of 1d100, taking the best, and using the base accuracy and crit ranges of the game, roughly, but the 'turn order' will be more like the anime, where sometimes you can do a few moves in a row or be hit by a combo of moves yourself, all depending on circumstances. Stronger moves tend to take more time and have more cooldown than weaker moves, so beware of that timing. Speed is more important for closing ground, intercepting, and other things and doesn't necessarily mean going first.

Call me out on a mistake and receive a suggestive picture, mostly likely a butt.

Gobble (Munchlax)
Mace (Roggenrola)
Belladonna (Roselia)
Totodile (Totodile)

And here is Herb, Scaring away a predator.
>>
You hitch up your bag, and gently lower yourself onto Wailmer from the rock. As you do so, you lose your balance and fall right on top of Keira. The two of you barely avoid falling into the water.

“Herb! You’re touching my-”

“Gah!” You quickly retract your hand. “Sorry!”

“I don’t mind.” She giggles. Coming from anyone else, you’d think she was hitting on you. But her voice is full of innocence and whimsy. “But, when we get to Eelilee, we probably shouldn’t touch.”

Right. You remember about that being a thing in the culture. Holy people like Keira aren’t supposed to be directly touched unless you’re holy, yourself. It’s seen as presumptuous or insulting.

“Yeah, Soft Hands. You’ll need to stop copping so many feels.” Laki lifts you off and pulls you back onto Wailmer. “Keep your mind and your aura clean.”

“Actually, Herb has a really nice aura. Very shiny.” Keira playfully picks at the air around you. “But reading them isn’t something I’m that good at.”

Laki gives Wailmer the signal and the large, round pokemon starts heading off. You fall back onto Laki this time.

“Sorry!”

“Sure you are.” The strong girl says with a hint of mischief in her voice as she gives you a nuggie. “So, got your butt kicked by some mouse pokemon, huh?”

You explain what happened to Laki. She does her best to not snicker while Bella watches, but she doesn’t do a very good job of it.

“So I was hoping you could have a talk with her.”

Laki shrugs. “Sure, but it sounds like you already took care of anything. You need more confidence, Soft Hands.” She checks your hands to see how they’re healing, and gives her approval. “Yup, still soft, like a girl that’s never done a hard day’s work in her life.” With that, she turns to Bella and takes her aside.

You take this opportunity to do some fishing.

You’re not sure why, but you’re feeling it today. You watch the line, the rod, and the water, and really absorb what they’re all telling you. Ooop! You’ve got something!

You reel it it.There’s a surprising lack of resistance. As you pull it closer, you find out why.

“That’s a funny looking fish.” Keira remarks.

It’s a white, silk scarf. Despite being soaked, it looks in otherwise fine condition. Huh. Maybe you’ll check it out when it dries.

You cast out again to do some more fishing. And in short order, your efforts are rewarded! You catch a big, non-pokemon fish. Before you can even bring it in, your Totodile leaps up and bites it off the line. It flops in his mouth.

Gobble isn’t having any of that. He leaps to his feet and grabs it. The two start wrestling it back and forth. You’re not sure if it’s out of a sense of justice to stop the new pokemon, or if he just wants it for himself.

Mace watches and does a gesture that you think means he’s shaking his head.
