>Information

This quest takes place long before the events of The Last Airbender. Long before Aang, Roku, Kyoshi, Kuruk, or Yangchen. You play as a young Earthbender from a small village in one of the many Kingdoms scattered across the main continent. As a powerful villain strives to dominate the world, you will be forced to make choices that can stop it, aid it, or have no effect whatsoever.

>Rules

After each update I make, there will be a voting period of ten minutes. Once ten minutes have passed, whatever option has the most support will be the winner.

Write-ins are accepted, but only when specified If you see a write-in option, suggest whatever you like. If not, choose from the options I have provided.

Sometimes, rolls will be required. I will assign them, and they will operate under a d100 system. You will have three chances, and if one of the rolls succeeds, you pass. There are no crits, but I do take into account how much you succeed or fail by.

I reserve the right to veto certain write-ins, but will try to avoid doing so.

I hope you all have fun

The battle with Xiong's forces is fast approaching, and the people of the village prepare themselves in their own ways. The Red Dragons, who changed their name because the old one was a hard-to-pronounce mouthful, alternate between training, scouting, and building defenses and traps. With their numbers grown, and time to prepare, they will be a formidable enemy for Xiong.

Lantana is training every bit as hard as she promised, mostly through Firebending sessions with Huo. From what little you've seen, they're quite intense, and it's frankly amazing that neither of them have been injured. Huo's told you that Lantana seems more focused now, and you've no doubt that your friend has become more deadly than ever.

Sansha has also thrown herself into training. Her head clearer now, she once again boasts flawless form and the type of drive that you've come to expect from her.

Mauya still seems to be mad at you, and you're slightly worried by that given the little bit of Waterbending practice you've spotted her doing. In all likelihood, she'll be playing the role of healer in this upcoming battle, but she still will be able to defend herself and others if it comes to that.

Pengsong has been doing some work transporting supplies between villages, though that always requires someone from the group to go with him. He never seems to mind the work, but that's probably because of the food he's given as a reward for his services.

Another day dawns, and you have nothing to do at the moment.

Everyone else is probably training. There's no reason that you shouldn't go and do the same. You pass through the village, finding an area outside in which you can train privately.

Now, all that's left is to decide what sort of training to do.

Sticking to the basics, you begin at once, running through all of the more simple techniques and training methods that you're most familiar with, and working up a nice sweat.

"We haven't heard from one of the outlying villages lately," he explains. "We're not sure if something happened to them, or if they decided to switch sides, but I'm supposed to poke around and find out. The whole trip should only take a day or two."

With all that's happened lately, you figure it's probably best if you let the others know that you're going to be gone for a while. Huo waits outside of the village while you go looking for the others, coming across Mauya first.

When you call out to her, she glares in your direction, but sighs and asks what you want. You tell her that you're going on a mission with Huo, and that you shouldn't be longer than two days.

"Alright, I'll let Sansha and Lantana know," she tells you. "Try not to get yourself killed out there."

She turns around and walks off before you have the chance to say another word. You return to Huo, and the two of you set off into the forest, making your way toward the village.

As you walk, Huo asks you a question.

"So, this Kalana woman that's leading these people," he speaks up. "You've fought her before. What exactly is she like?"

"She's ruthless, and dangerous enough as is," you tell him. "She almost killed Lantana before. And, there's no telling how much worse she'll get when she finds whatever it is she's looking for."

"Right, Lantana told me about that," Huo informs you. "For someone to be able to take on all three of you, plus another Airbender, even with a strong Earthbender helping her out. She's no ordinary woman."

He looks over at you. "I think I get why you chased after her. Lantana wants to destroy her power base, but that won't matter if Kalana's too strong to kill even without her allies. And, if Kalana wins against Lantana, she can just build up her power base again. It's just a shame that you guys waited as long as you did to chase after her. Sorry to say, but by the time you started chasing Kalana, it was probably already too late."

He chuckles. "I guess Lantana's idea is about the only choice left; get as strong as possible and take out as many of Kalana's people as possible."

"You're right. We should have chased after her once we left the Air Temple," you tell him. "But we went with what we knew at the time. We didn't have a map like she did. No reason crying over it, we just have to do what we can."

Huo nods approvingly. "That's the spirit. There's always a way to victory. Kalana might find what she's looking for, but by then, she won't have many supporters left. We'll make sure of that."

It's nightfall when the two of you reach the village in question, and your visibility is becoming poor.

Huo holds out his right hand, turning the palm upward and creating a flame, which provides a bit of illumination.

"What do you say, should we give it a look?"

"Yes, but tone the flame down just a bit," you warn. "I don't want to alert them if they have changed sides."

Huo nods, turning his flame down just a bit as the two of you creep toward the village. There are no walls to protect it, and no torches indicating any sort of night watch. The village seems to be silent, and as you approach one of the buildings, you think you know why that is.

Lying slumped against the nearest dwelling is a man in the clothes of the Red Dragons. He appears to have been slashed, and to have died some time ago.

You hear a sharp intake of breath from Huo, and the flame in his hand grows more intense. As you take a step back, you see his face contorted in rage as he looks at the body of one of his comrades.

"I will be once we find whoever did this," Huo growls in answer. "They'll pay for this."

"For now, we should search for survivors," you tell him."Be on your guard, though. This could easily be a trap."

Huo nods, and the two of you move to survey the village. It doesn't take long to find more corpses littering the ground, ranging from combatants to children and the elderly. This was a slaughter, plain and simple.

Still, you find it odd that, among the dead, you can't spot anybody wearing the uniforms of Kalana's army. What's more, there's far fewer dead here than you would expect in a village such as this. Perhaps some of them escaped.

"Maybe we should search some of the buildings," Huo suggests.

>A. Sounds good

"Sounds good," you tell him.

The two of you approach the nearest building, stepping inside and having a look around.

A man and woman lie dead on the floor, each one looking to have been cut down in a similar manner to many of those that you found outside. Still, there are no signs of their attackers, or any indicator of who the attackers were.

"I don't get it," Huo tells you. "Did someone attack the village without losing a single soldier, or did they just carry their dead off? And why are there so few bodies?"

Before you can offer a guess, Huo cries out in pain, his entire body jerking. In the dim light, you can barely make out an arrow lodged into his shoulder.

You turn and look toward the entrance to the building, but see only the darkness pouring in from outside.

You aren't sure who's shooting at you, or how many of them there are. They can use Huo's light as an indicator of where to shoot, while you could only attack blindly into the darkness, at least until an arrow found its mark.

Escape is the only option.

"Brace yourself," you warn Huo before dropping the two of you below ground using Earthbending.

Once the entrance above is sealed up, you grab hold of the arrow and yank it out, hearing Huo cry out in pain yet again.

"Thanks," he groans. "I guess we'd better start tunneling out of here. Our chances aren't good if we try fighting these guys."

Huo extinguishes his flame, and once more, you find yourself in darkness, with only the stars and moon to provide some small amount of visibility.

"Let me try patching it," you tell him, ripping off a piece of your shirt.

You do as you suggested to the best of your ability, and actually end up doing a pretty decent job at it. Huo should be fine until the two of you make it back to the village.

Huo steps in front of you, creating a tiny flame that gives you just enough light to see a few feet ahead, saving you from stumbling through the darkness. The two of you move toward the village, both unhappy with your discovery, but glad to be alive.

The sun is rising as you and Huo reach the village, passing by the sentries and asking for Mauya. Fortunately, they can point you in the right direction, and only a few minutes later, you're in the main building, with the Waterbender healing his wound.

"Okay Mauya, I have a challenge for you," you tell your friend.

She doesn't say anything, just looks at you with a raised eyebrow.

"We'll play some Pai Sho," you explain. "If I win, you stop giving me the cold shoulder. If you win, I have to do one thing for you."

She thinks about it for a moment, then finally gives a nod, and the two of you search for a Pai Sho board. Once it's found, you sit across from one another, and the game begins. It's very close, and for a moment, it seems that Mauya has won, but at the last second, you manage to turn things around, securing your victory.

You stand up, a sincere expression on your face. "Mauya, I'm sorry."

She stands up, glaring at you for a moment, but it begins to soften. "I forgive you."

Smiling, you step forward, hugging her tightly. She hugs you back, and the two of you stay in a warm embrace, each of you feeling a little better about all of this, until you go ahead and say something to screw it up.

You can't resist the urge to gloat, and so Mauya can't resist the urge to knee you in the groin. You find yourself on your knees, holding your crotch as Mauya glares down at you.

"Can you ever not act like a moron?"

Today, Lantana has decided to train her Earthbending with you. Of course, that means a sparring battle between the two of you, with Mauya on standby in case one or both of you get hurt.

The two of you stare each other down, trying to decide which sort of moves to open with. The way matches between the two of you go, the match is usually decided by who makes the first slip up, or manages the first lucky shot.

You haven't used your Earth Wave technique against Lantana before. So, hoping to overwhelm her, you rise up on a massive wave of rock, speeding toward your opponent. Unfortunately for you, your balance is off, and Lantana isn't taken by surprise as much as you'd hoped. She quickly launches herself over you, hurling stone at your back when she lands.

You're struck, and fall forward off of your wave, hitting the ground in a rather painful manner, and quickly finding your own wave coming to wash over you. It stops at the last second, and Lantana hops over it, offering a hand to help you up.

"I win," she tells you with a smile.

You take her hand, letting her pull you to your feet. "Again?"

She smirks, releasing your hand and taking a few steps back. "You're on."

As the two of you prepare to engage in another match, you hear a twig snap at the edge of the forest, and turn to see a Red Dragon scout, bleeding and with a torn uniform come rushing toward the village.

"They're coming!" he shouts.

Lantana rushes over to the man. "Xiong's people are on their way?"

"I don't know who's leading them," the man tells her. "But there's so many of them. They're going to kill us all!"

"We should evacuate the village," Mauya suggests.

The man frantically shakes his head. "There's no time."

"Then what, we stay and get slaughtered?" Mauya asks.

"W-we can fight," the man tells her. "We can at least slow them down, take a few with us."

"Mauya, can you fix this guy up?" Lantana asks. "I need to go find Yong."

"Right," Mauya nods, rushing over to help the man, freeing Lantana to run toward the main building, with you right beside her.

The two of your burst through the doors, finding Yong with some of his new recruits, instructing them on how to wield various weapons.

"We need to get ready," Lantana says as she strides toward the man. "Xiong's forces are coming."

"The scouts came back?" the Red Dragon leader asks, looking away from his charges.

Lantana shakes her head. "Just one, and he was in pretty bad shape. He claims they have vast numbers, and that we don't stand a chance."

Yong smirks, seeming more excited than afraid. "Well, we'll remind him just what we're capable of."

The two recruits look toward their leader nervously.

"You men, go grab uniforms and get ready," he instructs. "There's no training quite like experience."

"And what should we do?" Lantana asks.

Yong chuckles. "Help me lead the defense. We won't let those bastards reach our walls."

Before you know what's happening, Mauya's grabbed you by the collar and pulled you in for a kiss. You're too taken aback to respond, and after a moment, Mauya lets go, rushing off to help prepare.

"Get going!" she shouts.

Coming back to your senses, you rush after Lantana, and the two of you set to work setting up various pit-traps, as well as a couple of earthy hills where archers can position themselves or behind which people can take cover.

Sansha comes rushing over, her face awash with fear and excitement.

Just cause mauya admitted her feelings it doesn't mean she won.
We told huo we had a thing for sansha after all.
Unless anons are too pussy to tell mauya we don't feel that way, which is possible, we can still get with sansha.

Idea for earth bending during a big battle.
We lob barrages of round earth into the sky with a stomp, aiming them towards large bodys of soldiers.
We could also send huge tree sized spears of earth into their ranks to take out swaths of soldiers.
>>
>>1058643
>>1058652
"We've survived worse than this," you tell her.

"Good," you hear Huo say as he approaches from behind. "Hopefully that luck will keep up here."

"If Xiong's sending this many people to fight us, he'll have less to defend him," Lantana says. "If we can break his forces here, then we can take him down, I'm sure of it."

"Here they come!" Yong shouts from up ahead.

What follows is the sound of hundreds of arrows flying through the air in both directions, and Lantana quickly creates a shelter for the four of you to hide from the onslaught. You hear screams, and spot a few of the people on your side fall dead as they're riddled with arrows.

Once the shots seem to slow down, Lantana launches the Earthy shelter in the direction of the opposing army, and you're pleased to see that it crushes several of your enemies.

As enemy soldiers rush in for close-quarter combat, Huo begins launching pyro-blasts, dropping several of the enemies before they can even reach your allies. He quickly moves out of the way as an arrow whizzes past his head, striking a soldier behind him. Scowling, he unleashes another furious series of attacks.

Sansha engages a pair of soldiers, exchanging blows before managing to take both of them down and rushing to find others.

Surveying the battlefield, it seems that the enemy soldiers are being kept at bay for the moment, though your side is not without its losses. Fewer shots are coming from the enemy's direction, and the melee fighters look to have been halted.

Red Dragon archers rain arrows from the walls, but one is suddenly shot from the side, falling dead. As the nearest archer turns to face him, another arrow whizzes out, ending his life as well.

Looking in that direction, you can see a figure dressed in black sitting in one of the far trees.

Moving fast, you create a wall between yourself and the projectiles, easily stopping them from hitting you or your allies. Sansha looks toward you, frowning as familiar, female laughter rings out from the direction of the projectiles.

Your wall quickly begins to move toward you.

>E. Something else
Raise a side pillar to stop it, similar to those rubber door stoppers so the door doesn't end up hitting the wall.

And then attack her from the one of the sides since she might think we are pushing against her, leaving her open for a while by firing sharped rocks at hit.

Grabbing hold of Sansha, you shout a warning to the others, telling them to watch out as you launch yourself and the girl beside you over the wall.

As you clear the wall and descend toward the ground, you see the Earth beneath you open up. Swearing, you try to do something, anything, to stop your fall, but aren't able to manage anything fast enough. With Sansha in your arms, you fall into darkness.

You hear a sickening crack as you hit the ground, and pain explodes through your body. An attempt to stand lets you know what's happened.

Your leg is broken.

Sansha manages to rise, looking down at you with worry. "Sei, is your leg...?"

Dirt falls on top of you and Sansha, and the two of you look up to see the sides of the pit beginning to collapse.

As the rocks and dirt continue to fall, you try your best to create a hole in which you and Sansha can take cover. But, it's too late, and you cry out in pain as you're struck again and again.

Pain explodes through you, this time your other leg. Your back takes blow after blow, and you can barely manage to raise your arms, much less pull yourself to safety.

Your vision begins to fade, and the last thing you hear as the darkness takes you is a terrified, blood-curdling scream from Sansha.

When the light begins to return, you hear a familiar voice telling you to hold still, and a strange warmth on your lower body. Your eyes slowly open to the sight of Lantana kneeling beside you, her hands on your legs. It takes you a moment to realize that she's attempting to heal you.

You move your head, seeing countless bodies littering the ground, belonging to both sides of the battle. Pits are scattered across the battlefield, along with scorchmarks, piles of rubble, and even a fallen Sky Bison.

Huo stands off to the side, arms crossed and eyes closed, and Pengsong stands between your group and the forest, while Sansha lies on the ground not far from your spot.

"Is Sansha alright?" you manage to gasp out before erupting into a coughing fit.

Lantana frowns, looking toward the other girl with worry in her eyes. "She's breathing, but she hasn't woken up yet. Hopefully she'll pull through."

"It's a miracle that you two are alive, anyway," Huo comments. "Not too many people survive being buried alive like that."

"With two broken legs, no less," Lantana adds as she continues to attempt her healing.

Looking closer, you see a great deal of sweat dripping down her face, and that she's breathing rather heavily. This is clearly quite difficult for her, and you pray she doesn't pass out trying to fix you.

"What happened?" you ask, taking another look around the battlefield.

"We got flanked by archers, and they sent some Sky Bison in to attack us from above," Huo explains. "Plus, some Earthbender kept disrupting our soldiers. By the time Lantana drove her off, we'd lost the advantage. We still could have won if it weren't for that damn surprise attack."

Lantana's shoulders slump, and she closes her eyes, letting out a miserable sigh.

Huo looks at her with sympathy, but provides you with an explanation. "They burrowed right under our forces and into the village. They attacked from underground and caught everybody there completely off-guard. Our soldiers were slaughtered, along with most of the townspeople. Then, they tore down the wall and attacked our forces from the rear."

Your heart stops. "What about Mauya?"

Lantana takes several deep breaths. "We don't know. We didn't find a body, but there's no sign of her anywhere, which probably means she was taken prisoner."

"We have to find Mauya," you insist. "We have to save her!"

"We will," Lantana promises in a weak voice. "But first, we need to get you and Sansha in the right condition to travel and fight."

"Hopefully that'll be soon," Huo adds. "She's been working on your legs for the past two hours."

Lantana sighs. "Yeah, I'm not as good at this as Mauya w-is."

Lantana continues her efforts to fix your legs, while Sansha lies still and silent a short distance away. You lie back and close your eyes, Sansha's scream lingering in your ears, and Mauya's face in your mind's eye. A voice you may never hear again, and a face you may never see again.

>>
>>1059693
Normally I'm a fan of suffering. Good for building character, providing motivation, keeping players on their toes, makes victory all the sweeter, etc.

This? This just feels tiresome. We deserved some salt in the wound for those shit rolls, but this just feels out of proportion. We'd barely made progress just by meeting the resistance and then we suffered a major blow by failing the suicide mission so quickly. Now we're not just back to square one, but square zero. After a certain point, it stops being motivating and just becomes depressing.

But these are just my gripes. I'm sure there are plenty of other players hungry for more browbeating.
>>
Well time to plan a rescue mission. We should have tried to find what Lantana's army does to it's prisioners.
>>
Need to get our shit together. Train more earthbending until our bonus is fucking +50 or something.
>>
>>1059830
Most of them get conscripted, right? I'd imagine that they'd interrogate her for a while then throw her in a field hospital to do what she does best, albeit with some armed supervision.
>>
>>1059849
Most likely but what happens to those that don't become part of the army? Are we going to meet our dad and find him figthing for Kalana?
>>
>>1059870
I imagine it's not much of a choice. Fight for Kalana or die. It's doubtful that Mauya's spirit would break easily, but she also doesn't seem like the type to voluntarily die in the name of freedom.
>>
>>1059818
Kinda agree with you at this point
>>
I will say, honest criticism here som, when we succeed in rolls it doesnt always feel that glorious, we still need to succeed in six or seven more rolls to get that success. But when we FAIL rolls, something catastrophic happens, and nine times out of ten its something that just feels like we're getting punked, and not in a good way.
Case in point when we actually crit success and you give us a bonus for rolling, you just raise the difficulty modifiers, and then still punish us when we fail.
I'm STILL salty over the time we rolled a 116 and failed the roll. Don't take this the wrong way but I then whenever we succeed it's just underwhelming compared to what happens when we fail.

You aren't sure how long you lie there and let Lantana do her work, but you hear her let out an exhausted breath, and open your eyes to see her slumping forward. Huo rushes over and helps steady her, and she lies back on the ground, closing her eyes and breathing heavily.

"She needs water," Huo remarks, looking around. "I'll be right back."

He rushes toward the village, leaving you and the two girls lying on the ground with your eyes closed.

"Sei?" Lantana asks.

"Yeah?" you ask in return.

"Please don't scare me like that again," she requests.

Lantana sighs. "I wish she would wake up so I can stop worrying. I don't know if there's something seriously wrong with her, and I wouldn't know where to start with healing her if there is. But, if she's still breathing, there's still hope."

Pengsong lumbers over, growling and licking Lantana's face.

"Thanks, buddy," she groans, not even bothering to wipe the spit off.

Huo returns, holding a canteen. He kneels beside Lantana and helps her sit up, bringing the canteen up and letting her drink. Gently lying her back down, he approaches you, kneeling down and offering the canteen to you.

You take the canteen from him, re-hydrating yourself with some refreshing water. Once you're satisfied, you hand the canteen back to Huo, taking a moment to breathe before looking up at him.

"Any idea where we should start looking for Mauya?" you ask.

"Not a clue," Huo answers honestly.

"A lot of the people Jungo's army captured were sent to work at the foundry," Lantana tells you. "Kalana doesn't seem to take many prisoners, but if she does, maybe they go to the same place."

"Maybe," Huo says. "In any case, that place will be full of people with a bone to pick with Kalana. If we could rescue those people, Kalana would lose her main labor force and supplier, and we could build a force to fight her."

"No, that's too obvious," you insist. "Where would Xiong be? If his people captured Mauya, she's probably with him."

"Mieshi City," Lantana sighs, forcing herself to stand. "The soldiers we interrogated said that he manages Kalana's conquests from there."

"Ironic, ruling from the city where he was finally defeated," Huo remarks. "I wonder if that was by choice, or if Jungo had a twisted sense of humor."

"It's a long trip," Lantana tells you, her voice weak. "But with Pengsong's help, we should make it just fine so long as we don't do anything stupid."

"But then there's the issue of getting into Mieshi City and finding Xiong," Huo points out. "That won't be easy. He was able to hold off Jungo's army for a while. I doubt it will be as simple as walking in through the front gate."

"We should wait a day or two and rest up before we head out," you suggest.

"Every moment we wait, the chances of saving Mauya grow more slim," Huo points out. "It might be better to just nap on Pengsong's back and get going now."

Looking toward Sansha, you frown. "But, is it safe to move her? She took it even worse than I did."

"We had to move her already to get her here," Huo points out. "At this point, I don't think it will really matter."

Lantana staggers toward the unconscious girl, but Huo stops her, shaking his head and walking the Avatar over to Pengsong before going to retrieve Sansha himself.

Once the two girls are on the Elephant Mandrill, Huo comes for you.

"How did you and Lantana even survive the battle?" you ask Huo.

He glances back at you, seeing the girls passed out, and therefore a reason to answer himself. "Well, by the time the wall fell, Lantana had seen that you and Sansha weren't in the battle any longer, and was afraid of the worst. And by the time the wall fell, Yong and most of our forces were gone. Kalana's forces streaming out of the village, their weapons already covered in blood was the last straw for Lantana. She went into the Avatar State, and wiped out....must have been at least a hundred of the enemy soldiers in the span of a few seconds. They turned tail and ran."

"So, how many people on our side survived the battle?" you ask.

"Counting us? A few dozen," Huo answers regretfully. "Some of the civilians and a dozen or so combatants."

"Likewise," Huo tells you kindly, continuing to direct Pengsong through the forest in the direction of Mieshi City.

"So, any ideas on how to get into the city?" you ask.

"Your idea might work," Huo admits, not looking at you. "But Lantana has a point. If they use that kind of tactic against us, they're probably prepared for somebody to use it against them. But, I don't have any better ideas right now. The only one here who's actually been to that city before now is Lantana, so until she wakes up, there's not too much we can figure out."

Evolution, genetic abnormality, possibly a twin who was consumed into his body during the pregnancy. If you think about it there wouldnt be a reason for this not to happen is the person was strong enough. One could even go as far as to say it was gifted the other element from a lion turtle as gratitude or to stop a looming foe the spirit world knew the Avatar alone couldnt handle. Heck could even have been captured and experimented on due it being in the future
