You are the former United States Navy warship USS HOEL, now returned as a shipgirl and ready to kick Abyssal ass!

Currently, it was you, Haida, and Sendai against that one Abyssal Destroyer Princess and what was apparently a Light Cruiser Princess. However, in a shocking twist, the CL Princess turns out to look exactly like Jintsuu, Sendai's sister!

Logically, though, that was freaking impossible. You had just seen Jintsuu taking part in the operation, and you haven't heard any mention of her being lost, and unless the Abyssals had some EXTREMELY quick conversion method, this couldn't possibly be the same girl.

Then it hit you. From what the Captain, Shen, and Vahlen had previously told you, the Abyssals mainly copied from others, especially the concept of shipgirls when they started posing a threat. You guess they were starting to get better at it, being able to copy individual shipgirls like Vahlen did with you.

"Sendai, snap out of it!" You bark as you stare down the two Abyssals. "That's not Jintsuu!"

"But-"

"Trust me! I've seen this shit before!" You scowl. "Just treat her like any other Abyssal!"

"Yeah, we'll worry about it after we're done beating them down!" Haida adds in support.

"If you can." The CL Princess chuckles smugly as her weapons arm.

Thanks to your advanced computer capabilities, you can slow down time, or at least your perception of it, to make critical tactical decisions. First of all, as who to send Sendai after. Sendai was a light cruiser, so she'd be a better head to head match for the CL Princess, but with her looking like Jintsuu, you're not sure if she could stay level headed. On the other hand, she could probably easily handle the Destroyer Princess, but that would leave you worrying about the CL Princess, who was a bit above your weight class...

"Sendai." You growl to the light cruiser. "I need you to handle the destroyer."

"But-" Sendai starts to protest before you cut her off.

"You're not gonna be 100% against her, and we need every advantage we can get!" You hiss back. "I can tangle with the CL! Trust me!"

"All right." Sendai nods and grins. "You truly do have the night fighting spirit within you!"

"How about me?" Haida asks.

"Stick with me, Haida." You whisper.

"All right, I'll leave it to you, then!" Sendai laughs as she dashes forward, breaking the awkward standoff. Suddenly, fistfuls of miniature torpedoes materialize between her fingers and she throws them directly at the feet of the DD and CL Princesses. The projectiles explode in clouds of smoke and vapor. creating a smokescreen.

The two Abyssals hesitate, briefly blinded and caught off guard by the smoke. Sendai then transitions her charge into flying kick, aimed squarely at the DD Princess' chest. The Abyssal's reflexes are quick enough to block the incoming kick with her arms, but Sendai's sheer momentum and the DD Princess' lack of legs send her flying back, separating her from the CL Princess.

"Cute." The CL Princess giggles, the mouth on massive arm rig giggling in tandem with. "But it won't change anything."

"Go!" You yell to Haida as you rev up your engines and take off, firing at the CL Princess as you go. Haida quickly follows suit as you try and lead the CL Princess off into the winding, flooded streets of Singapore. However, the CL Princess seemed to have thicker armor, as she was casually shrugging off your light shells.

Overhead, fighters from both sides clash and dance, raining debris and burning hulls down everywhere.

The CL Princess follows both you and Haida, her own rapid firing guns barking and lobbing shells at you. Water and concrete chips are flung in all directions from her shell impacts.

"We can't beat her range like this!" Haida yells as the two of you continue to backpedal through a flooded avenue, using your radars to spot and avoid obstacles behind you. "One of us is going to have to get close in!"

"Haida, keep her distracted, then!" You bark as you put your engines from reverse to forward. Your body briefly whiplashes from the sudden direction change, but your hull was built though to handle rough maneuvers like theses.

"Roger!" Haida drops speed but continues her reverse momentum, increasing her rate of fire.

The CL Princess raises its massive left arm, using it as a makeshift shield against Haida's attacks. Fortunately, that meant that she couldn't effectively fire back while being defense like that. You speed forward, drawing your bat as you ready for a close combat attack...

You swing your bat at the CL Princess shield, and it contacts with a loud metallic CLANG that echoes throughout the street. The CL Princess' momentum is stopped in tracks, and you can see the gauntlet noticeably crack from the impact of your attack. Your radar warns you of hidden movement behind the shield and you immediately reverse, narrowly avoiding a flash of black steel as the CL Princess withdraws her shield and swipes at you with a black edged katana in her right hand.

Fuck, looks like she knows a thing or two about close quarter combat, too. Her damn smug smile remains unchanged.

Meanwhile, your radar also lets you know that Haida was closing in now too to back you up.

You swing your bat again, forcing the CL Princess to block your attack again with her gauntlet. You land a solid hit, but don't score any major damage, unfortunately.

However, your attack forces her to focus her defense on your side, giving Haida an opening to move in. The CL Princess swings her katana down at the Canadian destroyer, but Haida is quick to block the attack with her knife. However, Haida had another trick under her sleeve, or more accurately, another knife. She draws her second concealed knife with her other hand stabs down, the blade punching straight through the CL Princess' armored visor and getting stuck in.

Black oilblood gushes out like geyser and the CL Princess lets out a bloodcurling shriek of pain and rage. She swings her massive gauntlet around, forcing you and Haida back. The CL Princess then glares at the both of you, but Haida in particular. You almost think you could see a glowing red eye behind the cracks of the visor, but its only for a moment before the CL Princess unleashes a torpedo volley before turning around and speeding away.

The torpedoes aren't quick enough to hit either you or Haida, but they serve their purpose in delaying the both of you.

"C'mon! She's on the run!" You grin.

"Wait, we haven't heard from Sendai in a while." Haida says with concern. "Maybe we should check on her..."

"You're right, we should check on Sendai." You nod. However, you still feel a bit uncomfortable at just leaving the CL Princess to fall back like that. You're sure this wouldn't be the last you'd see of her.

"Can you use your radar to spot her?" Haida asks.

"Yeah." You nod. You close your eyes and begin pulsing your radar. You immediately get an in depth view of the surrounding battlefield. The allied forces were advancing on all fronts, but the Abyssal lines were still holding, falling back in a controlled fashion to tighten up their defensive lines rather than the straight up rout you were all hoping for.

On the airfield, though, Portland, San Fran, and your sisters were wreaking havoc on the Abyssal plane launchers and hangars, with STRIKE-1 still performing overwatch from their vantage point. The air war was certainly turning in your favor as more and more allied planes began to overrun the Abyssal ones.

And finally you catch it. Two small contacts clashing, spinning, and weaving through the streets of Singapore at blinding speeds, almost too fast for you to track. That had to be them.

"Follow me!" You instruct Haida as you speed off down the flood streets.

It takes a couple of minutes, but you finally manage to get a line of sight on Sendai's battle with the DD Princess, and what you see is... rather amazing.

The DD Princess is roaring along the streets like a goddamn race car, unleashing storms of rapid fire cannon barrages at Sendai, who's not even using her Rig to move around on the water. Instead, she's leaping to and fro from building rooftops and walls like the goddamn Spider-man, just barely staying ahead of the DD Princess' volleys while tossing copious amounts of torpedoes back at the Abyssal. However, both opponents prove to be too fast to effectively hit each other.

"Plan?" Haida gasps, equally mesmerized by the sheer show of speed and agility.

You and Haida charge in, weapons at the ready, guns firing as fast as they could cycle. You score some grazing hits on the DD Princess, while Haida fails to land a solid hit. The DD Princess swing around in a fury as she unloads both guns and torpedoes in your direction.

Haida is forced to break off to dodge a torpedo volley, and immediately falls behind, leaving you along to face the DD Princess. Thankfully, your upgraded engines prove to make the difference, as you close the distance and swing, landing a solid hit on the side of the DD Princess' abdomen.

The DD Princess grunts, but her red glow only intensifies as she prepares her counterattack.

The DD Princess is fast, but you're fast. Not that much faster, but just enough. Instead of a swinging motion, you instead thrust your bat forward like a spear, the thick end slamming right into the DD Princess' chin and snapping her had backwards.

However, the Abyssal was still crafty one, and takes advantage of her backward momentum to jet backwards to gain distance. She unleashes another howl, but this time it was different.

Your radar immediately whines in warning as it starts picking up multiple contacts closing fast. You check it very fast to see dozens of Abyssal fighters closing in. Too fast for an attack run. A kamikaze attack?

Considering how expendable the Abyssals considered their own, you wouldn't be surprised the DD Princess would be using them to cover her escape.

"Damn!" Haida seethes as she spins around to get her AA guns to bear.

Even Sendai has to leap down to ground level to avoid the incoming fighters.

"Damnit." You scowl as you turn around to assist Sendai and Haida. Between your radar control and the combined firepower between you three, you're able to fend off the Abyssal kamikaze attacks, but the DD Princess completely drops off your radar in the process.

And that's when you notice something. A familiar sound of helicopter rotors. You look up and see a fleet of helicopters flying overhead. Chinooks, Cobras, and Hueys of all types heading inland. Your radio then crackles to life, apparently finally fee of Abyssal interference.

"Attention." The Captain announces over the radio. "Dorsetshire and Graf Spee's task force has managed to breach the Abyssal lines. We will now begin landing operations into the city center."

Sure enough, you see Dorsetshire, Graf Spee, and Kidd sailing up an avenue in the wake of the massive air wave.

"Hallo!" Graf Spee waves happily.

"Good to see you all get through." Haida grins. "Wasn't too hard?"

"There were a few spots of trouble." Dorsetshire casually dusts off her shoulders. "Nothing some good old fashioned British grit couldn't solve."

"And German ingenuity." Graf Spee quips.

"Hardly." Dorsetshire huffs.

"Auntie Spee and Dorsie really should marry!" Kidd giggles.

"No." Both cruisers grunt simultaneously.

"So, what's the plan, then?" Sendai asks as she wipes some sweat off her brow.

"The Admiral is sending in the reserve forces to push towards the city center while the first wave is supposed to fall back and resupply." Dorsetshire explains. "That means us, unless you feel you can continue regardless."

"Yeah, I'm running low on munitions." You agree.

"I'm in need of torpedoes, as well!" Sendai nods.

"I need a replacement knife." Haida sighs.

"So where do we go?" You ask.

"Mulberry's already set up a forward base at the airport." Dorsetshire explains. "Follow me."

You follow the British cruiser back the airport, where you see that the runway was covered in allied aircraft, soldiers, and personnel. Helicopters kept bringing in supplies and men, while transport ships began landing vehicles and heavy equipment on the nearby shore.

In addition, you could see Mulberry's fairies, a veritable army on their own, swarming over the entire airport complex. Not only were they clearing out all of the Abyssal construction and "corruption", but also repairing and rebuilding the facilities needed to sustain offensive operations.

The personnel on the runway salute you and direct you to a number of hastily prefabricated shacks and tents, where Shen and Akashi have set up a field repair station. Already, you could see a number of shipgirls already in the queue to rearm and repair. Among them was Jintsuu, who was immediately set upon by a relieved Sendai.

Unfortunately, Shen and Akashi were too swamped in work to really spare any time to talk to you, so you instead follow the hastily written signs telling you to deposit your Rig in the storage tent until they could move on to it.

So, for now, it looks like you had a brief reprieve from the fighting.

You quickly grab a bottle of water and a power bar, wolfing it down like candy in order to regain a bit of the energy you had expended. You would have really preferred several gallons of ice cream, but you had to make do with what you had.

You take your leave from the workshop, since your Rig wasn't going to get serviced for a while. Instead, you head over to what was obviously the command center, set up at the foot of the airport's control tower. There, you see the Captain, North Carolina, and Sam directing battle efforts. Mulberry was also present, sitting on a chair in a sort of meditative state as her Rig continued to pour out a steady stream of fairies.

"Hoel, good work knocking out their primary airfield." The Captain nods with approval. "Thanks to that, we have control of the skies over Singapore. It will only be a matter of time before we completely surround the Abyssals."

"So I take it the rest of the battle is going well?" You ask as you look at the makeshift battle map laid out on the portable table between everybody.

"Well? We're kicking their fucking asses!" Sam grins. "Tell 'em, Cap!"

"It's as she says." The Captain nods in confirmation as he points to the map. "The Marines and Singaporean army have managed to cross the strait and establish bridgeheads, pressuring the Abyssals from the north. We haven't been able to completely eliminate their fleet, but they're bottled up in the harbor at the moment and seem to be falling back to the city center, no doubt to form a final defense line."

"The problem is, we're still not sure what else the Abyssals might have up their sleeve." North Carolina frowns as she points at the Spire. "We still don't know what this structure does, and in our previous battles, it's clear that the Abyssals are capable of pulling out unexpected trump cards when their backs are to the wall."

"It is concerning." The Captain nods and turns to you. "So I suppose it's a bit of good fortune you came along. Between keeping the Malacca strait closed and screening the main fleet, we're desperately short on destroyers to perform recon and skirmish operations."

"What about Pacifica?" You ask.

"She's a last resort, and I doubt Vahlen would release control of her just yet." The Captain shakes his head. "In either case, our original plans don't call on relying on her anyways."

"We have a beachhead in the city, but we're far from consolidating our gains." North Carolina grumbles. "One good counterattack from the Abyssals could send us back into the sea, which is why we need to keep up the pressure on them."

"That's why you'll be the tip the spear for our push on the Spire." The Captain continues. "There's three possible routes. You can try to go in by air, through the streets, or the subway tunnels. I'll leave it to you to decide."

"We'll head in through the tunnels." You say. "Seems like the stealthiest approach."

"Understood." The Captain nods. "Our engineers are already pumping the water out of the tunnels, so it should be safe to move through them. However, I can't guarantee that we can maintain a line of communication once you head down, so be prepared to operate independently."

"Understood." You nod.

"Good." The Captain turns to Sam. "Tell Shen and Akashi to put Hoel's Rig on priority."

"Already on it!" Sam says, busy with her phone. She then looks up to you. "Akashi's asking what you want to load up your missiles with?"

"Just tell her to put in a half and half." You instruct. "She'll know what it means."

"Um, yeah, okay." Sam shrugs as she turns back to her phone.

"Since you're all already together, I'll task Portland, San Francisco, Graf Spee, Dorsetshire, and Kidd to accompany you." The Captain continues. "I hate to split you up, but your sisters will be better served elsewhere."

"I understand." You nod. "Can we bring anything heavier?"

"The tunnels naturally won't be conducive to battleships and carriers, but I'll allow you to bring one of each." The Captain responds.

"I think Yamato and White Plains should come along." You say, under the reasoning that since speed wouldn't be a big issue in a bunch of subway tunnels, Yamato's sheer firepower would be a boon in the narrow spaces while White Plains' smaller size would allow her to move more easily than a regular carrier.

"Understood." The Captain nods. "I'd rather we have Yamato deployed elsewhere, but I won't contest your judgment."

And with that, repairs are made, fresh food is put in bellies, and your little spearhead group is assembled. In addition to you shipgirls, STRIKE-1 as well as a unit of Marines would also be accompanying you into the subway tunnels. You all ride to the nearest subway entrance in a convoy of APCs.

"Ah, it's so exciting to be able to go on a mission together with you!" Yamato says cheerfully as she tugs at your cheek. "Let's do our best, okay?"

"Y-yeah, of course!" You nod, feeling a bit warm and at ease in the battleship's presence.

"These tunnels are going to be tough to move fighters through..." White Plains frowns. "I hope we won't spend too long down there."

"Don't worry, these subways were built with efficiency in mind. It'll practically be a straight shot there." Section tries to assure you all. "Assuming that the Abyssals haven't left any traps down there."

"And you had to jinx it." Red groans.

"Hmph, and if that's the case, we shall be ready." Graf Spee huffs.

"I won't leave Singapore to fall again." Dorsetshire adds.

Soon enough, the APCs finally reach the subway entrance. You can see teams of engineers as well as a set of heavy duty pumps. Portable pipes snake down into the ground, sucking out the excess seawater that would have made the tunnels completely inaccessible otherwise.

However, as a side effect of the flooding, there was no power in the tunnels, either, meaning you'd have to navigate everything in the pitch black.

"What, afraid of a little darkness?" Haida nudges you in the shoulder as she heads down the still slick stairs.

"Of course not!" You grunt as you make your descent as well.
