You are Reginald Huxdedoborough, Prince of Mars. Or so you like to think. During your youth you did a little fencing and track and field. You were abducted while on your way to union negotiations for your father, a rich shipping tycoon. So far you’ve:

Joined the alien crew that was going to sell you into slavery
Became an engineer for said crew
Made friends with your former security chief (Vasquez) and a fellow engineer (Adams) after you saved his life
Survived your first mission, which was a trap
Gotten Vasquez into a position of command
Got 400 credits (350 remaining)
Learn about your captors, a race called Sarqs

You shake Adams awake, he’s gonna be sorry he drank that much. A lesson you learned in college was not to drink too much. “Come on, wake up. Let’s go get breakfast.” His head must be shut off, it seems all he can do is moan and shield his eyes. The mess hall is a bit more filled today than it was yesterday. Sarak must be recruiting. You know the Cook and you’re glad to see him alive. He sees the apprehension on your face, “I’m harder to kill than a captain. Not sure about Sarak though. He’s strong, if unproven. Also give this to your partner and tell him to watch his step. It’ll help ease his pain.” He slips a small green pill into Adams’ drink.

Vasquez joins you shortly after and you suggest going to the market later today. When you stand up to leave Adams almost falls, “I can’t feel my feet, why can’t I feel my feet?” You almost laugh and say, “The Cook must have slipped you a painkiller for that hangover. It’ll wear off.”

The city hasn’t changed since you slept and the sun seems a bit whiter than your sun. You make your way to the market you passed yesterday. Vendors call out product and prices. Customers condense around them. You didn’t think the city could smell more exotic or be any more crowded, but it was here. Something catches your eye, a stand that doesn’t have as many people around it with weapons displayed. A merchant calls out, “Parts! Parts! Buy all your parts here!” Another calls out, “Who needs parts when you can have electronics?! New viewers here!”

>Go to weapons stand

What kinda weapon did we have back at the ship battle? Do we still have our human pistol weapon?
>>
>>1081626
The human pistol was taken from us when we were captured. The gun we had at the space battle was the ship's, it's an smg basically, but it's only distributed to the crew during a job
>>
>>1081545
>>Go to weapons stand
I am assuming we are allowed to keep our own gear?
>>
>>1081631
And how does this "smg" work? Is it energy based, number of shots before reloading (if it needs reloading) different functions of the gun.
>>
>>1081641
I bet we get to keep the fabricated space suit we made....

Plus our buddy is buddy-buddy with the ships higher ups now.
>>
>>1081642
It basically ionized a metal slug and railguns it out of the barrel. It's automatic but not the fastest firing rate and fires about 20 rounds. And yes, you're allowed to keep your own gear. You're just pledged to the crew for a while
>>
>>1081545
>Look for something new at the electronics table

Let's see what advanced tech they have commonly available or if they're at roughly our level
>>
When you get back to Earth, you wanna bring back technology. Any hints as to what the next step might be will help. You head over to the electronics stand. There’s a Kumii behind it, more of hunched over it really. It looks up at you with it’s nostrils twitching, “You smell of Sarq, do your business and please leave. I cannot abide that scent for long.” In spite of this, Adams immediately opens up, “What are the specifics of your equipment?”

He inhales deeply before starting, “The viewers start at 75 creds for something small, handheld and go up from there. The PDAs start at 200 and become more expensive the more advanced model you purchase. It’s all standard 7 byte quantum. Yes, the 7 and not 6. There’s seven options for each byte, I test them all myself. If there’s not anything else, please hurry.” Adams is looking around, inspecting each item intently.

You’ve got 350 credits left since you bought those drink to get information. Anything big might take a chunk out of your spending money for a while, but it might be worth it. Then again there’s still lots of other shops.

>Buy a handheld viewer (75)
>Buy a bigger viewer (150, go big or go home right?)

The PDA most definitely will come in handy. While you were looking at the PDAs, Vasquez snuck off. He’s returned with a smile and a case in his hand, you have no doubt it’s a gun. You tell the merchant, “I’ll take a PDA.” Adams agrees with you. The merchant inhales deeply again, “Finally. It comes with a few languages on it and some basic charts. Give it access to a database and you can view it through the PDA. You might even learn a few things with it.” He takes your credit chit and removes 200 credits from it. You’ve got 150 left.

Adams looks satisfied, as does Vasquez. The PDA is a bit bigger than your hand half of it in a viewer screen and the other half input. There’s buttons in basic and buttons in other languages you don’t know. Much of the day is still left and a good amount of credits left too.

What is "Buy a viewer"?
>>
>>1085599
It's basically a tv. There's a small computer in it that can accept input, but not much else
>>
>>1085800
How much is it? How much is a credit worth?

What does a beer cost?
A cheap mean?
An expensive one?
How far can one credit get you?
>>
>>1085817
A credit is valued differently than human currency, it's a different economy with different demand. But it seems to be a moderately valued currency, not inflated much. You've currently only seen humans and sarqs consuming alcohol so prices could vary. One credit won't get you very far.

>>1085817
>A cheap mean?
>An expensive one?
Not sure what you mean by these
>>
>>1085866
Meal, typo.
>>
>>1086014
A cheap meal will cost around 2-3 credits. An expensive one will run +10. Though food is always free at your ship
>>
While the thought of shopping more entices you, it would be better if you had more money. You ask Vasquez how much it would be for a gun. “The cheapest is about 100 credits. Bigger weapon run about 300-700 depending on the gun.” There’s not enough money on your chit to risk it. There’s probably odd jobs you can do to earn more.

The way back to the port is fairly short. To get anywhere, you’ve got to go through the administration building. The vantage give you a good look at your ship. The front looks bruised and battered, they’re doing minor repairs on it. It’s a fairly small ship, like most of the ships landed here, though armored like hell. Compact point defence turrets dot the back of the hull, good against missiles but not much else. Most other ships look like orbital cargo shuttles for the massive merchant ships docked at the stations. There are, however, a few ships that look similar to yours, of Sarq make and use.

A sign blinks above a desk, “Jobs Here,” and there’s a fairly long line in front of it. It’s mostly sarqs waiting, a few sresh lizard-men. As you make your way there, a tall slender person who’s face is impossibly neutral and has light purple skin. “You’re not sarq, you’re not sresh. In fact, I don’t think I’ve ever seen one of your kind before and I’ve seen every race in this sector. Just what I’m looking for. You no doubt are confused about who I am. Names aren’t important but I’m a Dakiti and I’ve got a job you could do for. The pay is very lucrative, 500 credits.”

>Here the Dakiti’s offer

>>
Thoughts cross your mind, 500 credits. That’s probably worth it. “Ok, I’ll hear you out,” you say. The dakiti lets his face slip for a moment, but you can’t read his face as well as a sarq. “Very good,” he begins, “all you need to do is remove a problem for me. There’s a certain captain that know more than he should and he knows it. He’s hiding in Sarq’s Place, just about the only place that’ll take him. He often uses the command section to keep others at bay and leaves through the rear exit. Authorities won’t give you trouble if you carry a contract. So, what say you?” He proffers a data chip and a small metal signet.

>Take it, sealing the contract to kill the captain

A contract where we also get to kill an alien, I am down and given what we know about their culture no one should mess with us about it either
>>
>>1086620
>Other?
>Ask for double.
I don't wana give my species a bade rap now..., and killing a captain is a bit of a risky risky endeavour since he knows something worth more than 500 creds
>>
>>1086620
What species is the captain? Is he affiliated with any powerful groups?
>>
>>1086847
He's sarq, each sarq crew is independent and fairly self sufficient. Any sarq no part of his crew won't care and he's bound to have bodyguards. At least your captain does
>>
If this guy is willing to pay 500, he’s willing to pay more. “I’ll do it for 1,000 credits,” you say. He looks at you and laughs (you’ve caught onto that now), “Ha! I knew you were smarter than a street urchin. I’ll give you 750, you scoundrel. Else I’ll find someone else.” It was worth a try, you always start high in a negotiation. You counter, “800 and it’s a deal.” The Dakiti doesn’t laugh this time, “You try my patience, 750 or leave.” He’s adamant, no way you can get him any higher. You grab the data chip and the signet and turn to leave. As a farewell he says, “The chip has everything you need to know.”

>Go to Sarq’s Place
>Wait until tomorrow on your ship (choose something to pass the time)

But don't go inside, read through the data on the chip and then I say we ambush the captain by the back door in CQC, we seemed to have a pretty good handle on that

>>

You load up the chip on your new PDA. It contains information on your target and instructions. The target is a sarq captain. Interesting features include off colored beak and a small crest, both recessive traits that are common on his homeworld. He spends all his time at Sarq’s Place, only traveling to his ship to sleep at night. This particular sarq worked for the drakiti but went back on his word, something about “appropriated” cargo. There are always 3 of his crew with him, except when he’s in the command section.

We need vasquez but let's keep him in the dark about what we're doing.

That money is gonna help us in the future.
>>
>>1088096
How? We a rich trust fund kid back in human space, we do better working together since we are the same species.

Heck if we bring back even a old beaten down obsolete ship, it give our race a big enough boost, and cement our place in our dad future empire since we'll have a massive advantage over all the competition.

Second
I get the feeling that we will not be able to just back out if we wanted to. Might as well get the combat guy on our side. Especially since we are meh at fighting.
>>
Vasquez went back to the ship after he bought his gun. But it’s not far from the admin building. He’s outside the ship, inspecting his new weapon. It’s different from the pistols you’ve seen on the ship, it’s smaller and more streamlined. He rises as you approach, “Sir.” You don’t know how to bring it up, Vasquez never struck you as an assassin despite being in the Star Corp. “I’ve got a job,” you begin. “I’m not sure if you want to do it, but I’ll cut you in on the pay. It’s 300 credits. All we have to do is…” you consider the next words carefully, “remove a thief. It’s a sarq who mishandled cargo.”

He looks at you intently, “I don’t like it. I don’t want to, but I know what these sarqs are like. They’re not human, they don’t feel remorse. Killing people in a fight is reasonable, but for money?” It looks more like he’s arguing with himself than you. He sighs, “Ok, I’ll do it. Give me the details.” You hand him your data pad and he reads through it carefully.

After a couple of minutes he hands it back, “I could get him in the command section. People wouldn’t like it, you’re not supposed to do that there. But I’m sure I can get a gun past the guards. We’d just have to worry about his men afterwards.”

Reginald - 9
Vasquez - 15+2 =17

Vasquez opens fire first, a beam of white fire erupts from his pistol and fills the alley with light. One of the armed guard flops to the ground while the others scatter. Two are headed towards you, one armed and one not. The other is headed towards Vasquez. You pop up from behind the refuse pile and fire two shots. The first misses, the second hits and disables the armed one. There’s not enough time to fire again while the second sarq closes on you. It moves for the gun, trying to remove it from you hand. You catch above it’s eye ridge with a left hook but it’s talons rake your right leg deeply. Another shot lights up the alley and the smell of burning feathers hits your nose. A black, burnt hole appears in the sarq’s head.

There’s a ruffle of feathers and air swooshes. The last sarq is making a break for the rooftops but falls dead with another flash of light. Your leg is bleeding pretty badly. Vasquez runs over to you, “Oh shit, you ok man?” You growl through your teeth, “Of course I am.” You look down at the sizzling sarq’s head. There’s something left of a crest left and it’s beak is half burnt, but you can still see a bluish purple beak. Vasquez grabs one of the guns off the body and stuffs it in your jacket. Then he tears a strip of cloth off of it and wraps it around your leg. “Come on, that’s our man. I haven’t got any more shots so let’s get out of here,” Vasquez says as he helps you up.

“Looks like you’ll be ok, at least I think you will. Nothing important was hit. Come see me again in two days,” the ship medic tells you. He packed your wound with a clear gel, wrapped it, and gave you a sedative. In the morning, your leg is working fairly well and it doesn’t hurt nearly as much. There’s a chit waiting for you with the airlock guard. It’s your last day on the planet, how will you spend it?

Armor? maybe
>>
Your leg is mostly just stiff now and your skin is scarring over. That fight almost got out of hand, better keep that from happening again. Snatching Vasquez from the security office you make your way out. You grab your credit chit on the way out, 750 credits. Though you promised 300 to Vasquez. “Hey, thanks for having my back last night. I really appreciate it,” you say smiling at him. “I promised you a cut, so here it is. Three hundred credits. Also, you know if there’s any armor dealers around?” Vasquez takes the credits with a discomforted look on his face. “I’ll always have your back, it’s in my contract. But if you call me for any more ‘jobs’ makes sure they’re decent. I don’t want to take out any kids. And yeah, they weapons dealer had some for sale.”

Returning to the market, you’re met with a plethora of smells that range from spices to oil and everything in between. The quiet weapons dealer is a bit busier today than when you last saw him. “Lemme guess, you either want a better gun or armor.” He points at your leg. It’s a Sresh, lizard through and through. He’s a good head and shoulders above you, more than seven feet tall and no doubt built. “Yeah, armor. What’ve you got?” He pulls out a small chest with various plates in it. “I’ve got standard equipment: polymer, light metal alloys, ceramics. Polymers will protect you against small projectiles once, maybe twice times if you’re lucky. Nice and cheap. Metals will keep most things at bay for a bit longer but build up heat in a vacuum. Bit more expensive. Ceramics shatter often but are more likely to deflect shots. High maintenance but worth the protection. Of course none of that’ll help much against beam weapons.”

He looks around and then at Vasquez, “He knows. Beams are highly regulated, cost a nice credit or two. Wanna stop them? Use a shield. I don’t sell higher than a grade III, past that is military tech and highly illegal depending on the system. Be warned, shields are iffy against projectile weapons. So, what’ll you take?” He shows you a list of prices.

Base Prices for chest:
Polymer - 200
Metal - 300
Ceramic - 400
x2 for full torso and helmet (includes upper thighs and shoulders)
X3 for full body

Shield Prices:
