Your name is Haskell, son of Sven. A young Norse man of about seventeen, and heir to a family that has long since begun spiralling, and a farm that has been fallow for too long. A father who lost most of his hand raiding, a mother who took ill on a sickness brought back on the longships, and a brother who’s entire raiding party hasn’t been heard from in six months, presumed lost to the sea.

That’s turning around. A local priest explained the recurring dream you’d been having: prophetic in nature, a way for Odin to let you know you’d been chosen as a Paladin, a champion of his religion along with your three oldest friends. Unfortunately, neither him nor anyone else of his pantheon can contact you until you find the mythical Atlas of the Conqueror. It was last held by Charlemagne, as is rumored to be somewhere on mainland Europe. That doesn’t matter so much, though. They say you don’t find the Atlas; it finds you when it thinks you’re ready for the vast responsibility it places on your shoulders.

“Eh, it’s a fair point,” you say, coming to your friends defense. “And it takes a fair bit of skill to throw an axe under pressure with any accuracy.”

“Too heavy,” Erik replies, waving away your argument casually. “Daggers fly faster, and you can carry a lot more for the same weight.”

“And with any luck, they won’t bounce right off a particularly thick shirt,” Saxi responds as he throws his head back in a deep, throaty laugh.

“Guess you just need to learn to throw them better,” Erik snaps back, a sly grin resting on his lips. Saxi’s bout of laughter gets cut short, leaving the empty mead hall quieter than you ever remember it being.

“Argue quieter,” Leif moans from the next table over, trying to hide his head deeper into the crook of his elbow, where even the dim candle light in the tavern can’t bother him.

“No,” young Atli says looking over with a little bit of distaste in his eyes. “You got beat like a bitch, and now you get to deal with it like a grown man. Take your lumps, Leif.”

The slumped man murmurs something that you imagine was some sort of threat of violence, but he raises no more concerns about the topic at hand, or the volume at which it is discussed.

You let the conversation continue for a while as you examine the mead hall in a state you rarely see it - empty. It’s a lot bigger in here when the tables aren’t packed, and the sitting area is probably twenty yards wide, and a time and a half as long. The tables and chairs are study, non-decorative thing made from some dark hardwood, though time and a village of drunken vikings have taken their toll, and it’s nearly impossible to tell which. Antlers and old weapons line the walls, as well as a few paintings of different scenes. A couple, you notice, are done by Astrid’s careful hand. The better ones, it seems like. Astrid should really look into selling more, she could probably make quite a coffer out of them if she chose.

You’re brought out of your inner thinkings by a lull in the conversation, the sudden silence taking you by surprise. Now would be a good time to slip out if you chose, or bring up a new idea to talk about.

Sorry for bailing, guys. I've explained to the wife she about the damage she does to my questing schedule. She doesn't seem to care about it much.

Heading out to find Svala. Writing.
>>
You stand, making your various excuses, and wave on your way out the door. You’re unsure why, but you have sudden urge to find Svala. Normally, you’d start your hunt at the mead hall, and break up whatever fight she started. However, you just left the hall, and you’re confident there were no fist fights in there… yet.

You decide that Goti’s is your next best bet. You keep an eye out there for her on your way over, and avoid the blacksmith’s questioning look as you poke your head in, look once around, and leave, not finding the blonde shieldmaiden within it’s walls.

You decide to check the impromptu training ground just outside the edges of the city before you give up, walking out of town into the forest surrounding it. Passing through the needled trees, you can hear her grunting before you come out into the clearing. As you exit the forest into the ring that holds training dummies and wooden weapons, and several patches of dirt used for instruction and unarmed combat. Using a large daneaxe on a dummy, you see Svala… actually, more of her than you ever intended on seeing. She’s wearing a very short skirt, which, while you’re sure does wonders for her movements, does very little for her modesty. The only other thing she is wearing is a thin band around her chest, binding her breasts. Sweat drips from her head and braided hair down her well-muscled arms and midriff, and you can’t help but watch the rivulets travel down her body.

“Can I fucking help you, Haskell,” she says gruffly, and you realize you’ve been staring. Hoping it hasn’t been long, you desperately search your brain to find an answer.

>Can you fucking help her?

So I'm fucking stupid. I posted this int he old thread like 20 minutes ago. Sorry I keep fucking up tonight, guys.

“I’ve been told you’ve been asking after me,” you say cooly, and her eyes narrow as they look at you. “I was wondering what you wanted, and why.”

Her mouth drops open for a second, but she answers quickly after. “You’ve never been much of a fighter,” she stammers out. “I was wondering how you were picking it up, how you’d been doing out there.”

“You’ve never shown an interest in my well being before,” you say with a healthy suspicion. “Why start now,” you ask as you walk over to lean on a straw-stuffed dummy. “It’s… disconcerting.”

Her gaze shifts to your feet for a moment before shooting back to your eyes. “Just because I give you a hard time doesn’t mean I want you to get a sword through your belly,” she says defensively. “There are worse things to be than teased, you know.”

“What you’ve been giving me is a few steps past teasing,” you answer, crossing your arms over your chest. “In fact, it’s been pretty close to assault a number of times.”

“Still different,” she says, quietly. Her eyes are down at her feet, now. You’re not used to seeing Svala this… reserved? Timid? Either of them, really.

“And the fight last night,” you ask, keeping the pressure up. You know she’s earned it through your childhoods. “There wasn’t much of a chance of me getting run through, then, and you were still there.”

“You really expect me to pass up a chance to watch a fight,” she says, quickly after mumbling something about Erik. “You don’t know me all that well, then. Is that all you came here for,” she finishes, quickly turning back to her old, brash self.

>Wrestling with Svala

Well when you put in that way
>>
“Well, if you’re so concerned about it, maybe we should get a little practice in, eh,” you ask, motioning towards the more open areas of the training field.

“Any time,” she says, her expression turning nearly predatory with a hint of something you can’t recognize, walking over to one of the dirt squares, leaving her daneaxe leaning against the dummy. She drops into a low ready stance, her feet wide and her hands out in front of her. You’re distracted again by just how little she’s wearing. “Come get some, Haskell”

Looks like she doesn’t care much. You enter the small dirt square with her, your hands out in front of you. You’re much larger and stronger than Svala is, likely a full foot taller, and a hundred pounds heavier, but she has the advantages of experience and ferocity. You’ll need to find a way to fight that lets your advantages reign supreme.

She grins off to one side, and begins to slowly walk laterally, circling you. Her mouth is grinning to one side, and her eyes gleam with excitement.

>>1114773

Ah yeah I remember that now, I am actually interested in Svala as a love interest for Haskell, nothing like having a shield maiden for a queen if we get powerful enough
>>
>>1114780
He never got much traction with the rest of the crowd, so I never paid him much mind.

Svala would be a powerful ally in that sense, but all of the love interest crumbs I have laying around are in some way or another.

Looks like we're jabbing a bit, getting a feel for her. High rolls are 21 and 26. Gonna roll for Svala off screen, then start writing.

I can start rolling in thread again if you guys want, but I feel doing it on my own speeds things up a lot. Let me know if you want me to be more transparent, though.

>>
You step forward, slowly, your hands in front of you as a guard. Svala mimics the motion, standing up a little straighter, so you can’t just end the fight with a single well placed knee, like you may or may not have been planning on.

Your first punch is light and fast, and tags the warrior girl in the mouth. She looks shocked momentarily, probably having expected you to go for the knock-out punch right away. Your next punch is a left haymaker, swinging outside. This one, she sees coming. She isn’t able to dodge it, but she does get a forearm up to block it. She backs up a step, shaking what you assume is a tingling feeling from her hand. She brings a finger to her already swollen lip to make sure it isn’t bleeding, then sets steel into her eyes, focuses solely on you.

Attempting a tackle. High rolls are 19 and 25. Writing.
>>
You charge her with a shout. She sees the tackle coming, but is unable to sprawl away from you in time. You wrap your arms around her hips, forcing her to stumble back until she eventually trips, falling onto her back. Even on her way to the ground, her legs wrap around your torso, her ankles locking behind you, doing her best to keep you from moving freely while she’s in the dirt.

She bares her teeth at you, and tenses her body for whatever is coming next.

Sorry, anon. My quests don't really have enough readers for an option to reliably get three votes if there's a split in the hivemind. I take the first three to avoid that problem.

I don't ask for rolls after the vote is locked in because That adds time and my quests are notoriously slow and spotty

Also, I'm going to the gym, so this was probably the last update of the night. We'll continue tomorrow or Thursday, or I'll possibly write one quick update when I get back before I crash for the night.

You shift your weight onto a hip, in a half sitting up position so you’re looking down into her face. As you’re pulling one of her arms through, she very nearly slips away, but rather than trying to regrip, you increase the pressure of the hold. Your hold tightened, you reach your free arm around her head, pulling her in tight, hoping to either choke her out or force her to give in.

She bucks just in time that you can’t solidly lock in the maneuver, but she’s still in trouble and knows it as she kicks her legs out, trying to create enough separation to break your grip and slip away. She’s coming close, but you don’t think she’ll be able get out in time.

Svala manages to slip her sweat-slick head from your arm, but in one motion, you wrench her elbow back. As she cries out in pain, your hand shoots to her throat, gripping it around the sides as you pinch off the blood vessels. You force her head and neck into the dirt as her face goes red and tears well up in her eyes. She bats at your head and shoulders with her only free hand, before giving up on the futility of it and trying to pry your hand from her throat. It’s not going well.

“Svala,” you say as you struggle to maintain your grip. “Give in, and I’ll buy you a drink when we get back to town. I don’t want to carry you there.”

You’re pretty proud of your call for surrender, and smugly imagining her considering the offer when your world becomes pain. Your head snaps back, both hurting and surprising you, and your hand releases the shieldmaiden’s throat. Even as she’s gasping for her first breath in forty seconds, she’s diving onto your chest. She slams your back into the dirt, but you manage to catch her shoulders in your hands, keeping her from attempting a similar hold on you. Spit flies from her mouth as she sucks in air, not hesitating or letting up, trying to get to your face with her hands. You taste blood, and cough up a small amount that has begun running down your throat.

Looks like you spoke too soon. She’s on her knees over you, your legs laid out flat behind her, and you can’t tell whose blood is splattered over the knuckles of her right hand.

With a groan and a slight gurgling of the blood sitting in your throat, you grab her shoulders roughly and buck your hips. Svala is thrown to one side, and you quickly capitalize, rolling over into the dominant position once more, mimicking the full mount she had on you just moments ago. She grabs one of your wrists, doing her damnedest to keep your from beginning to choke her once again. Her face is getting more and more flush, reddening around the cheeks and where your hand was around her throat, and her jaw is beginning to tremble.

You have her right where you want to. How to finish this?

“If you’d just give up,” you say, careful not watch where her hands are. “We could just get to drinki… wait, are you blushing? Or was that just the choke hold? Both, maybe?”

She opens her mouth to answer, but immediately begins trying to wriggle out from under your grasp. You switch your grip to her wrist, breaking her own hold on your arm, as you pin her opposite shoulder to the ground. You rise up, flipping her onto her belly as you twist her arm behind her back. She cries out in pain, and tries to push herself up with the one arm she still has available while you barely manage to hold on to her sweaty, writhing wrist. You can’t help but notice she avoided your question.

hope not, I think this is the longest fight we have been in

One little twist of the wrist is all it takes. You pull the hand up, wrenching it and the elbow just a little further up, and she’s crying out in pain.

“Fine, I give!”, she shouts out. “L-let me up!” You try very hard to suppress your smile as you release her hand and stand up. You also fail, grinning like an idiot.

>Combat over
>Svala: lightly wounded (face, throat) Rolled: 18, 12
>Haskell: lightly wounded (face)

She stands in a huff, shaking her hand loose of the ache you put into it, and instantly turns to meet you. She looks up into your eyes, reddened and sweaty, your chests touching. She grabs a fistful of cloth at your stomach, and pulls you closer to her.

“I need to go,” she says suddenly, turning and leaving at a run, leaving you standing alone in the empty training ground, watching her skirt flutter as she makes her exit. Shamefully, you shift your gaze to your feet.

I mean we could have, but the stomach for it doesn't exist in this quest
>>
>>1118114
>>1118133

We're not raping her, 1 because we're not that sort of guy, 2 because Norse cultures did have a form of law and rights for women included retribution for rape
>>
>>1118209
It's not rape if she loves you afterwards
>>
>>1118221
Then how about this: We're not raping her because that kills the playerbase for a quest.
>>
>>1118240
Sure buddy
>>
>>1118209
A)I didn't say rape her
B)I know it kills the quest when it bought up

What I said to do was diffrent she clearly got off on our fight and was afraid to follow up on it

Fair enough, that was a poster a few threads back that was pushing it a lot, wanted to make sure to nip it in the bud this time around

I thought we were playing a bad ass viking not a generic harem quest protag.

>>1117666

Chase her

hey hey, don't be mad, everybody loses sometime
>>
>>1118640
Rape is a trade mark of Vikings tho
>>
>>1119386

Yeah, on raids, not in our village where we will be flogged and hanged because of it.

we soon will be on a ship again and we can exercise our people's tradition. I think we just didn't rape Danica because she is flat chested and Heskel likes em full

Alright guys, I won't be able to run until later this evening, but I updated the character sheet for your training with Svala. You went up a point in both grappling and striking, so I'd say this little session was worth your time.

Also, I have a question for you guys. It doesn't matter right now, but eventually it likely will. You keep your larger weapons on your belt or your back, and your first seax has a sheathe on the front of your belt, but where would you like to keep the second one? The back of your belt? In a boot? The side of your belt? If you want to know what advantages each would have, just ask or discuss it among yourselves.

Hey guys, I had planned on doing a session tonight and starting a fresh thread in the morning, but I have come down with some brutal sinus and throat thing. I'm gonna archvive this thread, and as of now, no thread tomorrow. I'll post on the twitter if I make some miraculous recovery.

Thanks for playing everyone! I appreciate it!

thanks for the run
