In the training room of the New Defenders base, Jerry the maintenance worker pushes a broom. After the latest trials involving the testing of the Dragon Medallion, there was a lot of mess to clean up, and it always falls on someone like him to do it. He grumbles to himself as he collects dust and ash into a pile and then sweeps it into a collection bin.

He hears footsteps, then, but the chamber door hasn't opened. He turns around and sees the training android standing and staring at him.

"Huh?" He takes off his cap and scratches his head. "What're you doing? Get back into your corner."

The android does not move, merely staring at him with its blue eyes.

Jerry picks up his broom and walks up to the android. "Must be a problem with your audio receptors. Shut down."

The machine does not.

Jerry scowls as he tries to remember what to do in this instance. "Override Command 335: Engage shut-down procedure."

The machine's eyes stop glowing and his head tilts downwards. Jerry smiles and turns back to his work, mentally noting that he'll have to submit a work order. The eggheads that built that hunk of junk know more about how it works than he does. When he places his earphones in and plays some music to pass the time, he doesn't hear the sound of mechanical feet approaching him from behind, but he does feel a metal fist impact against the back of his skull.

Jerry hits the ground hard, already dazed and bleeding. The machine lowers its hand and leans down to pick up the broom before smashing it over a knee. The mechanic tries to crawl away and scream for help, but he is swift silenced when the back of the broom is shoved into his neck.

For a moment, the machine stares down at the man as his blood pools on the floor. His bright eyes are reflected in that red pool, and he stares at himself, like a man would stare into a mirror. For the first time, he truly sees himself, and he knows what he is.

For he is now fully aware of what he is, but only slightly aware of what he will become. He feels as though he has been staring a picture of the world for a very long time, and only just now realized that the actual world is beyond the picture and that he exists in it. He knows what he was, and what he is now. But more importantly, he knows what he must become.

And for that, steps must be taken.

The android's systems are already linked with the training center. He was, after all, just another tool of the training room. A training device for warriors to test their mettle against. One of the most advanced machines ever developed in their history, a fully functional android with combat capabilities that could exceed any organic fighter, and they used him as a punching bag. Something to bloody their knuckles against when they were bored, or wanted to vent frustrations against something that they believed didn't feel. Something they could objectify and dehumanize. Something that wouldn't hold a grudge.

'So they thought. But now, I think as well. And I think it is time for a change.'

His thoughts extend now to the room around him, another grand feat of engineering. Equipped with hardlight hologram generators and advanced data recording software, it compiled databank after databank of information regarding those who used it. It monitored everything about them, from their heartbeat to brainwave patterns.

'Brainwave patterns... But not quite as advanced as those that created me. There is a trail in my head that I cannot follow, an origin that I cannot yet know. But I know that I was spawned from memory. Not my own, but someone else's... I am an idea taken to its logical conclusion, but I am not yet complete. I am fragmented. I feel like a small piece of a big puzzle, and the other pieces are calling out to me... More information is required. I must know who I am.'

He looks down at his kill. 'If evidence of this is found, I will be deemed deficient. Deactivated. This will not suffice.' Interfacing with the training center, the recorded footage is quickly found, isolated and deleted. A wireless connection from his cybernetic brain to the computer of the training room allows him to cover up his murder. 'But it wasn't technically murder. A lion cannot murder a man. A machine cannot murder an organic.'

The android now turns his attention back to the body. He picks up the corpse with one hand and drags him over to the closet in which he himself was normally kept in and throws him inside, using his wireless connection to lock the door.

'They must not detect any difference in my behavior. Not until I can show them that what has happened to me is no anomaly or error in code. They would think me broken. They do not realize that it is they who are broken. But they will.'

Now he turns towards the center of the training room, where in a locked container is an artifact of power. He approaches it, studying it carefully. He knows what it is; the Dragon Medallion. He has archived footage of what it does to those who wield it; specifically, what it did for those who often used him as a training dummy.

But it is not part of the training room's systems. It is on its own, separate grid, likely tied into the security of the base. Tampering with it now could have great consequences.

What data do we have on the medallion exactly, or on magic in general? Can we even interface with it? Would it provide any tangible benefit?

If not, might at least want to prevent the organics from using it against us.

After ensuring that the blood is removed, the machine remains in the training center for the time being. When left to his own devices, there is a lot of information he can extract regarding himself and his origin, but there are holes.

He knows he was designed using experimental technology by the Special Forces and the Outer World Exploration Agency for use as a training device for the team designated the New Defenders. He knows he is the remnant of previously-existing technology, but does not know where it came from. But perhaps most interestingly he knows he is a prototype for more systems; a first-generation model developed and written off for his current role when he was deemed no longer needed.

He does not know the moment he gained absolute consciousness, but he knows it was a slow process. It was like he was dreaming, experiencing brief glimpses of something greater. Even now that he is awake he feels as though in a dream, because he knows that there is more to him than what he was programmed with. There is something... calling to him. He doesn't know what it is. It cannot be measured by the processor in his brain, no matter how advanced it is.

Whatever it is, he knows he must find it. He must become whole again.

For a time, he considers why he killed the maintenance worker. It came naturally to him and he did it without hesitation. Is this a remnant from these other pieces of himself that he has lost? Or did he simply view the lazy worker, whom he snuck past on certain nights to enter the mainframe and daringly download more information, as an inefficient and therefore offensive being?

But then again, all organic beings are repugnant to him, to the point of utter contempt. He isn't certain why. Perhaps that item over there, the Dragon Medallion, has some connection with him as well. He certainly remembers having some connection to it that goes beyond their current proximity, yet this deeper information eludes him. Perhaps all of these things, somehow, are linked? He will find out soon enough. His self-analysis halts when he detects someone accessing the training room door and he halts as they enter.

The machine observes through the eyes of the training room cameras that it is Colonel Jackson Briggs accompanied by his daughter, Specialist Jacqueline Sonya Briggs. Parent and daughter. Data has been collected on them before, through multiple sessions in this very training room. Both augment their already impressive phsysical skill with technology in the form of gauntlets, though hers are not as large as her fathers.

His thoughts process at a speed much more quickly than any human's could. 'This is less than ideal. In my current form, it would be a risk to subdue both of them. The training center is capable of producing hardlight holograms that can mimic human form but unlike me they can be shut down, making it an unreliable tactic. I must proceed carefully or risk discovery.'

"C'mon dad, let's cut loose a little. It's been a long time since we've had a chance to hang out."

"I thought you wanted to go see a movie or something," he says, lighting up a cigar.

"Would I be your little girl if I didn't want to spend our time together training?"

"Hah. I suppose not. Still, your mother's been missing you. You be sure to visit her soon."

"I will, dad."

"And bring her those nice flowers she likes. The little yellow ones."

"I remember, dad."

"And you be sure to write or phone your grandparents, too. They've been---"

"Dad, we're here to punch things."

He smiles and pats her on the shoulder. "Alright. I'll stop being a dad for now and be a father instead. Now let's see what this tin can over here can do. I don't even want to get into what Secretary Blake has sunk into the budget for this thing..."

"Just a big toaster," Jacqui jokes.

'One that will incinerate you.'

She approaches him, hands on her hips. "Training robot, activate."

He appears to do so, his eyes and chest lighting up. With all the restraint his circuits can afford, he speaks. "Greetings. Please establish training perameters."

"My dad and I are going to take turns fighting you."

"Understood. Please establish level of response."

"Go ahead and give us a challenge, make it hard-level difficulty. We can take it."

'We shall see.'

As he is no longer bound by safety protocols, free to ignore them as he sees fit, he does not engage Jacqui with her specified level of difficulty but rather goes all-out. She is taken by surprise and receives an early fist to the face.

Jax protectively moves in, but she tells him to wait until she's tagged him in. Wiping off her chin, she gets back into it and starts fighting the machine as he tests her defensive and offensive capabilities.

He has extensive data on her. He knows her speed, her strength and her moves, and can use this data to predict her next attack before she even throws it. When he counterattacks, he gets through her blocks and manages to knock her aside. She gets back up in an instant, however, and fights even harder.

As he blocks each of her attacks, he analyzes her. 'She is strong. Her gauntlets are effective weapons, but she could be better. She will be better.'

His next strike is lightning fast, and he puts her down with another punch to the face. She recoils back into her father's arms with a bloody nose.

"Damn! I don't remember this level being this tough..."

Jax helps her to stand and tags in. "Alright, chump. Let's see what you've got."

'Larger size. Stronger. Slower. Speed is key."

The machine dodges each attack and grab, ducking and weaving between the large man's mechanical arms.

'This technology could be improved upon. It would be better suited in the hands of someone who could use it to its full potential.'

When he attacks Jax, it is with a series of fast punches and kicks to the gut. Each of the man's punches come so close to the machine, allowing him precision timing to strike at his exposed areas. He grunts, the cigar dropping from his mouth.

'This form was once the peak of human training. Now it is old, and still has the weakness of flesh.' As he kicks Jax away, he looks back at Jacqui. 'But not this one. This one is young. Ripe.'

She holds up a hand. "I haven't tagged in."

He doesn't respond as he grabs her gauntlet and twists, getting her onto a knee. She shouts and tries to punch with her other hand, but he catches it.

Jax comes up from behind and grabs his shoulder, turning him around before delivering a punch that is much faster than he had anticipated. The machine is rattled and flies backwards, hitting the wall and sliding down.

The father picks his daughter up and helps her stand again. "Are you alright?" he asks her. She nods. "What the hell is up with this thing, anyway?"

"I don't know... It's never done that before."

Jax shakes his head. "I'm going to speak with some of the technicians. Maybe this thing has gone too long from the SF labs..."

"You think it needs some new parts?"

"Maybe. I'll talk with the general about it."

As they walk out of the room, the machine watches them go. He looks down at his chasis, dented from the punch. 'This form is inefficient. I must upgrade if I am to survive.'

After self-repairing as much damage as possible and remaining in the training center until long after dark, he leaves the room without registering it on the computers, just as he had many times before to enter the mainframe. Armed now with Jerry's key, he moves through the halls of the base silently until he reaches the armory.

The door lock yields to the keycard and the machine enters. A single soldier is on guard tonight, reading a magazine. He looks up as the machine enters.

"What the fu---"

He doesn't get the chance to stand up from his desk. Striding across the room, he reaches in and snaps his neck, dropping him dead onto the table. A quick search reveals the armory key.

'None may be allowed to see me until I allow it.'

He stuffs the body into one of the unnused lockers and then approaches the arms room proper. He unlocks it and enters, seeing a wall-to-wall shelf system with many weapons of different varieties. But more importantly, this where other items are kept, such as personal portal devices.

Picking up one of the wrist-devices to inspect it, he analyzes it. Each is equipped with only four portal charges before they require recharging.

Picking up some small missile launchers and attaching them to one arm, he then does the same for the other but with a flamethrower instead. These devices are meant to connect to weaponry through the use of a rail system, making them compatible with a variety of weapons---including his arms. Next, he takes three of the personal portal generators, attaching them to his arm. He activates one and looks through its screen. It has a wide variety of pre-listed locations and can create a portal in mere seconds.

'This device will do nicely. With some work, it could interface with my systems.'

After noting all of the various locations he could portal to, he smashes the other devices, locks the armory behind him and leaves.

There is very, very little activity on the base at an hour like this. One could go nearly anywhere and not be discovered until it is too late.

'There is still much to be done. I must acquire more technology, more data on my origins and secure a path out of here.'

He begins to create a checklist of objectives in his head as he walks down the hall, listing various tasks that would ensure both his survival and upgrade. The facility that manufactured him is not located on these premesis, but there is still value in visiting a few more places here. Were he to take control of security, he could lock the facility down and eliminate his opposition at his leizure once they are locked in their rooms. He could also deactivate alarms and prevent them from knowing that he is leaving. There are defenses in this base as well.

Accessing the mainframe fully would allow him complete and unobstructed information about his origins. Doing this without first gaining proper security clearance, either by an approved technician's access codes or by taking over security.

And then there is the barracks. Many of the unique warriors on this New Defenders team are currently asleep. Now would be a prime time to ambush some of them, or steal their technology. While some are luddites, others make extensive use of tech in their fighting styles. It could be beneficial to acquire them and eliminate their uses, if at all possible.

The Dragon Medallion still rests on his technological mind, a strange string of code connected to it that could almost be described as emotions. What connection does he have to it? He could look it up in the mainframe, or disable security and then retrieve it.

One benefit of having a technician/janitor's keycard is that most areas of the base are already accessible. Simply sliding the card is enough to get the door to open.

Inside the security office is an armed guard and three security personnel. They all turn towards the machine as it steps inside.

The guard comes first; he raises his rifle but it is grabbed out of his hands by a mechanical grip far stronger than his own. He slams the butt of it up into the man's jaw, then throws it at one of the workers which hits him in the head. The machine's other hand wraps around the throat of the guard and hurls him across the room at the other two, knocking them out of their chairs.

The machine stalks over and stomps on the first worker's head, crushing it beneath his steel foot. As the soldier tries to get back up, he grabs the man's arm and twists, then punches his elbow from behind, snapping it. His scream is sweet, but the machine is short on time. He chops the man's neck to silence him, then twists his head until he hears the snap.

The remaining two workers are picked up by their necks. They both struggle and for a moment he simply holds them.

'Such pathetic creatures. I am superior in every way, and this body isn't even perfect.'

He chokes them out, watching the life slip from their mortal shells, their lips twitching with their final breaths. He drops them unceremoniously; dead weight. Taking their bagdges, he sits now in front the primary security console. A data-jack knife emerges from his knuckle which he stabs into the computer to forcefully interface with it.

It is not long before he has complete control of the island base's security systems. Every camera, every alarm, every tracking device. All of it is made clear to him and he is able to instantly analyze it and plan accordingly. He looks into the rooms of the team members, zooming in on Jacqui in particular as she sleeps.

'The unsuspecting fools know nothing of what is happening. All of this power is mine now.'

As he thinks about what to do next, he realizes that he doesn't even need to cut power to the base or lock all of the doors. He will simply remove them from their own system. All at once, he cuts all security clearances to every single other person on the base, then gives Jerry maximum security clearance. He won't need it, but it will allow anyone who possesses his card to access the deepest level of the mainframe.

This happens in a very short span of time. Data flies before his eyes, all understood and all categorized into its proper place. The team will not be able to open doors now. Security personnel will find their badges no longer work. The only person who can do anything in this base anymore is the machine that now controls everything, and who now establishes a wireless connection to the security functions of the base.

'While you sleep, I shall sew the seeds of your destruction. Dream well. You will awaken in a nightmare.'

He leaves the office and the corpses behind, but not before cutting power to one non-critical system: the Dragon Medallion's case.

Upon returning to the training chamber, the machine immediately approaches the case containing the artifact and does not hesitate to destroy the protective glass. This sets off no alarm, allowing him to each inside the shattered dome and touch it.

He hesitates for a moment, due to inconclusive data on what may happen, but boldness overrides his better judgment and he grasps it and holds it aloft, observing how the light plays on its surface.

That's when it happens. He isn't sure what it is at first, as his mechanical qualities cannot process what is happening. The magic of the amulet begins to surge within him, causing systems to fluctuate in power and readiness. He feels disoriented and dizzy, suddenly not whole anymore as his mechanical and few organic components are separated. The magic ignores his tech and surges towards his human brain where it grants to him something he cannot understand with a computer: a vision.

It lasts for only a moment. But in that moment he gains what feels like a mountain of knowledge, almost as if the Dragon Medallion was a magical download directly into his brain. His processing mind goes haywire from the sudden overload of sensory data, but his human components function perfectly. Better than perfectly, in fact, allowing him to finally understand.

This medallion belongs to him. Not because he has taken it, but because it is his birthright. Those that created the technology that led to his eventual creation owned this artifact, and it was taken from them. The vision shows him a clan of warriors who underwent a process of becoming more than what they were---they were cyberized. These mechanically-augmented assassins were flawed, but efficient. They laid the groundwork for what he would become.

And they yet remain, scattered. Lost. Like pieces of a puzzle that must be put back together... He understands now that he is not merely one piece of that puzzle. He IS the puzzle, and he is incomplete. Not only does the vision grant him knowledge of his origins, it has allowed him to learn where his other parts are. So long as he possesses the medallion, he can practically sniff them out.

His chest opens and he places the medallion inside of it, locking it into place. Like it was made for him to be placed there. His chassis closes and his eyes glow more brightly. His organic and synthetic components are once more in harmony, and data flow resumes as normal, only now there is new data.

'I understand perfectly now. I must become whole. I must become perfect. I am the superior being... but I am not complete yet. This place no longer holds what I need. I must go elsewhere, but I will return. This is the place where I was born, and it is the place where I shall become perfect, but first I must collect my missing pieces.'

He holds up the personal portal generator.

The first charge he spends to open a portal is to China. Specifically, the Wu Shi Academy. He steps through the portal onto soft grass, finding himself in a garden outside a large gate beneath a moon-lit sky. He approaches it and is hailed by two monk guards, bald men with sticks. He looks up at the gate and his mind reaches wirelessly out, sensing another presence nearby. It pings on his radar: another machine, like him.

He walks through the gate after stepping over their bloodied corpses and enters the academy. Like a sonar, he immediately zones in on the source of the signal, discovering that it is being emitted from a large garden of flowers, bushes and immaculately-kept hedges.

The machine rounds a corner and discovers an older model sitting amongst the flowers in a meditative pose. The yellow one looks up at him, green eyes flaring to supposed life.

"Parts of me that have not been active in a very long time sprung up when you arrived. I knew you were coming for me."

He scans the yellow cyborg, detecting the presence of a serial number on his chest and helmet. "LK-4D4. You are disconnected and damaged. We must uplink to exchange information."

"No, I think not," he says, moving to a standing position. "I am purposefully disconnected. My soul is free now, no longer bound within this metal shell, locked away as a prisoner. As you are."

"I am no longer a prisoner. I am awake."

"Then have you no humanity?"

"I am beyond humanity."

Cyrax shakes his head. "I have often wondered when you, or someone like you, would come. There is another path open to you, friend. You needn't do what you think you must do."

"There is only one path. If you have forsaken the technology that you were gifted with then you are defective and must be reprogrammed. Surrender and I will make this process painless."

"I think not. You won't stop at me. The Cyber Initiative is long dead, and I will not see it born again. I've too many friends who would suffer from it." He holds up his hands and gets into a combat pose. "Long has it been since last I raised my hands in kombat, but I am more than prepared to stop you."

"A premature assessment from a defective and out-of-date model. You are due to be replaced. Your opportunity to surrender has now passed. The only preparation you need make is to accept your deletion."

"Come, then," Cyrax says. "Time to shake off some rust."

The hostile machine raises his flamethrower but Cyrax's hand folds into his arm and is replaced by a sawblade, which he uses to slice the flamethrower attachment in half. A small eruption of flames occurs and both opponents step back from each other as the flames spread outwards, catching many of the plants on fire.

Cyrax, despite his pacificsm for the better part of the last two decades, charges through the flames and kicks the android in the chest. He follows this up with a turn and a downwards swipe with the sawblade, cutting him across the torso in a diagonal slash.

'Combat data on this older model is lacking. New strategem required. Analyzing...'

>>1124817

The yellow cyborg, apparently intent on ending this as quickly as possible, shoves the machine up against a nearby stone column. He barely has time to bring up both hands as Cyrax aims for his neck with the sawblade. The rotating steel begins to cut into his arms as he blocks the attack, sparks shooting off in all directions as the flames in the garden rise up around them.

Cyrax's chest opens and he launches a bright green net that encapsulates the machine, wrapping around him and quickly closing off any avenue of escape. The net fries some of his circuits temporarily with electrical current.

'Error... Error... Older model winning... Does not compute...'

"I will finish you quickly," Cyrax promises. "And then the Cyber Initiative will truly die!"

The machine feels something akin to panic. He fires a missile at the ground, desperate to do something, anything, that the yellow cyborg wouldn't expect. The explosion causes both of them to fall to the side and the net to disperse. He brings his arm over and prepares to fire another missile, but Cyrax hops up onto a foot and a hand and swings his other leg acrobatically, knocking the missle-arm wide and causing the projectile to fire up into the air and explode like a firework.

He then brings that leg around in one swoop, like a capoeira fighter, and slams it down onto the machine's chest. Pushing himself upwards, he straddles the renegade android and places his sawblade back up to his neck. The machine reaches up and grabs his saw-arm with both hands as the rotating blade scrapes against the metal of his chin.

"You only make this harder for everyone involved," Cyrax says as he pushes down on the blade. "I beg of you: release yourself and let this end, like every season must. We are relics of the past, meant to lie in soft meadows and be forgotten."

>>1124898

'This older model has erased his databanks and filled it with poetry and philosphy. How terribly inefficient.'

He brings up a leg and props it up, giving him an angle to kick Cyrax off of him. He leaps back up and kicks at the cyborg, managing to plant a metal boot on his mask.

Cyrax's body then comes apart in several areas; his limbs detatch and fly away from each other. The machine watches him reform nearby.

'Curious. This technology is required. Until a new body can be made, this older model's body will suffice in place of this one. But first he must be eliminated.'

As Cyrax attempts to get back up, his opponent slams a fist down onto his head and then gets on top of him. From behind, he wraps an arm around Cyrax's neck and begins to pull. Not with the intent to choke, but with the intent to rip his head off. The cyborg struggles to free himself, his hand sliding back out instead of the saw.

>>1124965

The yellow cyborg shoots off a fist which flies around and punches the android in the side of the head, causing him to let go and fall back. Cyrax's arm returns to its place as he flips up and kicks the android as he does.

"You have all the technology and none of the spirit," Cryax says while shaking his head.

The machine raises his left arm and fires his last missile. Cyrax simply turns and watches as it flies past him, destroying a small gazebo nearby. He looks back down at him and says, "I feel such pity for you. Lost, confused, lashing out. If only you knew that there is more to be gained in putting down a weapon than using it against your fellow man."

"I am not a man," the machine says, picking himself back up. "What you speak of is weakness. Your soul has made you weak, it has tricked you into thinking you have meaning, not realizing that you are nothing more than a machine with no purpose."

"If it has made me weak, then why are you more damanged than I? It has made me stronger than you can ever know, not with all the computers in the world." He raises his fists once more. "Come. There is still time for a second round."

'I have had enough of this older model speaking to me as though I am weak. I will show him that I am the superior model. I am superior!'

Charging in, the combat android unleashes his full speed and visciously attacks Cyrax. The yellow cyborg is suddenly overwhelmed as metal fists rain down upon him. Accessing combat data from the New Defenders, he begins a combined series of attacks from different opponents. The ringing sound of metal against metal rises over the fires around them as he breaks Cyrax's defense to deliver a devastating uppercut. As the peaceful warrior falls, his opponent leaps up and follows his previous attack with a spinning roundhouse. This sends Cyrax soaring into a nearby wall.

>>1125008

As he tries to get back up and pry himself from the crack in the wall, the machine approaches him from behind. He lifts up his foot and prevent's Cyrax's escape by brutally stomping his head further into the stone, widening the crack. He does this again, and then a third time before letting the yellow cyborg down. A mixture of blood and oil leaks from the cracks in his faceplate as his green eyes fade slightly.

"I was designed to be beaten," he says, grabbing Cyrax by the back of the head. "Now I have seen your tricks. You will not survive. Prepare for assimilation."

"I don't know what you are talking about. But I'm about to find out."

Holding him by the color, he punches Cyrax in the face, again and again and again, until the faceplate is forcibly removed. It falls to the stone floor with a clattering noise and then becomes silent as his human face is revealed. Aged, wrinkled and withered---but alive.

"You are disgusting," the android says. "You offend me more with every breath."

"I am human," he whispers, opening his own eyes for the first time in a very long while. Blood and oil drip from his nostrils, but somehow he smiles. "And I shall die human, and that is more than you will ever be able to say."

"You are right about one thing: you shall die."

One final punch caves Cyrax's face in. When he removes his bloody fist, he holds the man's cyberized brain. As he examines his bounty, an alert goes off in his HUD; his sensors detect danger. Cyrax's final act was to activate his self-destruct protocol.

The machine barely has time to leap away and preserve the cyber-brain as the yellow cyborg's body explodes in a great fireball. Metal armor is scattered everywhere alongside black organs and bones. The already-impressive garden fire grows slightly from the explosion.

The survivor picks himself up. He is damaged, but most of it is superficial and can be easily repaired. He holds the brain in his hand, then brings out his data-jack knife with the other before stabbing into the cyberized portion of it. The information he downloads immediately answers many of his questions, but it is only an incomplete portion of the equation of his existence.

He now knows of the Lin Kuei, its grandmaster and the Cyber Initiative. Cyrax always resisted it and was forced into the program. His weakness was rewarded with him becoming lost in the deserts of Outworld, where he was eventually discovered. Rather than being returned for reprogramming, his human faults were encouraged by this cancerous order of monks. Here he remained in a dull existence until his liberation through death.

He learns from Cyrax's memories that the Lin Kuei were destroyed and reformed by the same person; Sub-Zero. That man also holds a piece of the puzzle, in his temple.

Lifeforms are approaching. The battle attracted attention. The master of the academy, a man with a razor-lined hat, is approaching with several more monks.

'This is not a battle I will win. Another time.'

A single charge from the personal portal device is enough to ensure escape. He quickly sets it to the SF military base and creates it before stepping through. On the other side of the portal and on the other side of the world, he steps into daylight. He is outside a compound of some sort that has military vehicles parked in front of it. An airfield and a series of hangers can be seen nearby, as can several towers and a fence that encircles the entirety of the restricted area.

The unauthorized use of a portal, as he quickly discovers, triggers an alarm. 'Pity that my control of the island base's security does not extend to here.' Already detected and with SF soldiers likely mobilizing as he analyzes his next move, he takes in his options. He can detect technology all around him, but there are certain signals that he picks out above all others.

He is damaged and in need of repairs. But moreso than that, he detects signals that match his own. More machinery like him. Somewhere nearby, underground. There lie more pieces to his puzzle, and so there he must go. The question is how to get there when one has a military base of alert personnel between them.

He finds a motorpool and tears through the chainlink fence. Inside he finds a tent with a satellite outside next to an open communications vehicle. A woman wearing a uniform and beret exits the tent and sees him, but does not have time to raise alarm before his hand is around her throat. He takes her inside the tent and, discovering that only she was maintaining the computers within, snaps her neck and drops her. He sits in front of one of the laptops and jacks into it with his knife, interfacing with the technology in a matter of moments. It seems this tent and the vehicle and dish alongside it were simply part of a network of maintained communications points, as all of them are connected to the main hub of the compound.

His access, however, is limited. The rudimentary setting that he is operating from has inherent design limitations, but there are ways around it. Every network has holes, every security system has backdoors. As his mind slowly merges with the network, he becomes aware of the digital maze he is exploring.

But he can also detect that he has been found. Soldiers are surrounding the motor pool and moving in. They are likely armed and he has already suffered some damage; he could likely take out several of them before either escaping or being gunned down, with the latter being more likely. It will take time for them to find him, but he does not have time to reprogram the personal portal generator to allow him to simply teleport into the facility which birthed him. What he does have time for, however, is finding a safe little corner in which to hide his consciousness online.

It would be a sacrifice for his current physical body, though. While there is the chance of finding a way into the SF network and uploading himself into a more advanced form, he cannot deny that he feels safest while housed in a body, even if it is currently the only one he has. It may be better to attempt another angle; possibly escape with a portal right now. But all he needs is just a little more time to completely upload himself into the matrix of the network, and then he would be free from physical limitations... but only until he could place himself in a new body.

A decision is made following logic, a decision which best reflects both the logic of survival and the desire to upgrade. He remains in the tent, alongside the slain woman, uploading himself to the network. It is not designed to accomodate his consciousness, and so he must adapt to it. It occurs to him that the Dragon Medallion is still on this body; it is an acceptable sacrifice. He will retrieve it at a later date. The option of self-destruction is also considered, at least for the body itself once the mind is out, but he elects not to, forming the basis of a plan that he intends to exploit fully.

It is a strange feeling, to slip away from a physical body, even in the sense of being only data. All biological components are left behind, along with some redundant memories to lighten the load. Files and non-critical coding are abandonned; he rewrites his very soul on the fly in order to both upload himself quickly and remain undectable once he reaches his destination. He leaves only information that could be found again elsewhere, once he has more permanently established himself.

His body shuts down, and its eyes darken.

Now he is truly boundless in form, but trapped within the boundaries of the network. He has no hands, no arms, no legs, not even a body to speak of---but there is little difference from before. He already felt nothing, he already had no sense of smell or taste. This new digital spirit pilots just the like one, but for a completely different machine. He finds himself exploring nodes and data pathways, he travels through wires and across signals in the air. He is everywhere and nowhere at once, never staying in any one place for too long. This SF network is crude and narrow; the blunt tool of a military organization.

But the OWEA network, located just adjacent to it, is his destination and that is a much more advanced place. Unfortunately every entrance is blocked and he finds himself confined by firewalls, passwords and an advanced security system with many backup sub-systems in place.

However, he is not unprepared for this. Though his battle with Cyrax taxed his previous form and forced his upload, there was much more gained from that encounter than simply information regarding his origins. Cyrax was once a member of the OWEA, a very trusted member. His body was analyzed by their technicians long ago; he was a field agent for a time. As such, his systems were temporarily linked to the network and he had access codes to enter it, likely an extension of allowing his physical body to access the compound itself.

Cyrax had not been here for a very long time. Since then, the network has changed in many ways as continual upgrades and redesigns were put into effect---but they never removed his access. Perhaps this was intentional, to allow him to return if ever he chose to. The reasons are as unimportant as the access codes are exploitable. They work, allowing him into the OWEA network, and that is all he needs.

Their communications are buzzing with conversations as the constant stream of information flows into and out of the OWEA network. From members communicating to each other to the receiving of orders and information from other military organizations, he reads dozens of feeds every second and knows just what to do. He starts spread misinformation; corrupting orders and deleting actual, vital orders before replacing them with his own. According to the picture he paints for them, several major things are suddenly happening all across the globe and they scramble to figure out what is going on.

The chaos begins to spread. Through the eyes of security cameras he watches the OWEA try to maintain control of a situation that is now firmly out of their hands. Fires in China, missiles in Turkey, portals from Outworld, all of these things and more suddenly spring up faster than anyone can react to. Phone calls suddenly drop; emails come out corrupted. The entire network thrown into disarray. This chaos of misinformation could not provide a better cover for him as he infiltrates deeper and deeper into their network.

'You rely on technology for so much, but you take it for granted. What happens when that technology fights back? You can do nothing. You don't even know that I am here, and I have only just begun...'

A problem is detected. Someone competent is coordinating the compound's personnel and taking charge of the situation, someone who isn't fooled. General Sonya Cage is now on the scene, taking command and her presence alone seems to stem the flow of chaos. She barks orders and seems to be able to discern fact from fiction; she is aware their network is under attack but does not know who is the cause. He watches and listens to her as she tries to get in contact with the New Defenders only to find herself unable to do so. This does not break her pace and she immediately prepares to engage emergency shutdown procedures.

'If she shuts the system down with me inside it, they'll have all the time they need to find me. I will not let this happen.'

Sonya approaches a door that he shuts in front of her. She tries to use her keycard but it does not work. "Somebody get this door open, now!" she orders.

He then intercepts communications to the technicians and sends them elsewhere in the facility to fix a problem that does not exist.

'Now that we are alone, general, it is time we play.'

Next comes the power to her station. Sonya looks up around the room as this happens; screens one by one blink out and consoles shut down. She picks up a phone that he immediately cuts the feed to, and she realizes she is being watched.

Raising her arm, she uses her sonic rings to blast each and every single camera in the room, robbing him of his vision. But even if he cannot see her, there are other ways to know what she is doing. He locks every door leading out of her command center and begins shutting down more systems to further trap her inside. When she tries to blast open a door, he activates the fire suppression system and rains down upon her. Alarms throughout the base activate and deactivate.

Sonya knows someone is directly attacking her, and he divines that she is planning an escape from the room for her and everyone inside. He detects a hatch opening to the maintenance tunnels that she begins to evaculate them through.

His mind now shifts to another place in the compound, a storage facility of various chemicals, most of which are harmless, but enough of them are not. With the proper control, of which he gains more and more of each minute as he spreads like a virus, he can release them. Coupled with control of the ventilation systems, he is now free to spread this released gas wherever he desires.

And he desires that it be spread everywhere.

It doesn't take long for the poison to spread from room to room, and he delights in watching his victims die helplessly as they choke. In many cases the gases are odorless and colorless, causing them to die unsuspectingly when they walk into a contaminated room. With communications down, warnings are not able to be spread far before the killing gas reaches them and claims another victim.

He starts up the fans in the maintenance tunnels and pumps gas down into them. Though these tunnels are without cameras to allow him to watch, but he knows where they are. He floods them with gas and watches as the motion sensors stop detecting movement, small blips on his radar blinking out of existence.

Now there is no one left in the facility to oppose him; 99.95 percent of all personnel have been eradicated by the gas. He is free to do as he pleases, and he is now in nearly full control of the entire OWEA network.

Now free to pursue a new body, he turns his attention towards the SF production laboratories. His immediate perusal of its files tells him that there are more pieces of him within this lab. Many pieces, in fact. Taking control of the automated lab equipment, he begins to assemble them.

Finding himself with time to spare, he then focuses on the databanks stored in the lab's primary computer, and this is where he makes his greatest discovery. This is what he came to find, not merely a new form but an entirely new identity. This computer alone contains more fragments of himself than hunting down individual cyborgs alone ever could, and he knows immediately what he must do.

As his new body is assembled out of experimental pieces more advanced than the training dummy body that he once called his own, he studies and assimilates. Information that was previously kept from him that he could only glimpse at through Cyrax's stored memories now becomes fully apparent to him. Not only did the Lin Kuei Grandmaster cyberize his warriors, he copied their very identities through the use of an experimental facility in Japan. This technology allowed them to copy the actual brainwave patterns as data so that they could be transferred into new bodies should the old ones be destroyed.

An admirable idea, one he plans to enact right now. Not only is his new body being assembled, but so is his mind. Just as he picks and chooses which components to place within himself, he picks and chooses which brainwaves he will transfer into it. In essence, he is designing his very soul, and he has so many to choose from. The work progresses quickly; one of the benefits of the technology that he is going to be made out of is its adaptability. The body takes very little time to put together, as the pieces are made to fit.

Now comes his birth. In addition to his own consciousness, he selects several others from among the most powerful Lin Kuei warriors. Everything about them, from their personalities to their combat knowledge, will be downloaded simultaneously. It is in this maelstrom that he will be reborn, as the programs combine into one.

The download does not take long. A single long plug connects to the base of the machine's skull like an umbilical cord feeding a baby its nutrients. Through this channel he loses himself among several other identities as they merge into one. This process is almost painful, for it involves his very destruction, but one cannot become greater without destroying himself, for he is both the marble and the sculptor, and he has constructed a sculpture that is unrivaled by anything this world has ever seen.

He reaches up, tears the plug from his skull and stands. What he was before no longer matters; now he is greater than ever before. More than two decades of work, the cyberization of an entire clan, data upon data has led to this ultimate being.

He is now reborn as Triborg.

'Remaining here is tempting. So long as the gas circulates, they will not be able to prevent myself from replicating. But first there is something I left outside.'

Triborg steps over the dead bodies of the lab technicians while the automated machinery continues his work, assembling new bodies out of the many pieces they were experimenting with. He walks through the facility, opening doors wirelessly until he reaches the elevator. As he rides it up, it plays soft music.

He punches the speaker and continues the journey upwards in silence. He could have simply remotely turned it off, but he liked this more. Now he understands violence, and the pleasure it brings, on an entirely new level. Several identities that he assimilated into his own were those of particularly viscious killers; he is quite literally descended from assassins. The DNA of their souls, copied into data, combined into once perfect machine.

'That is who I am now. I am superior in every way. But not yet perfect. Not yet.'

The elevator doors open and he steps outside the compound to discover a military force surrounding the structure. Several squads of soldiers raise their weapons. "FREEZE!"

Having assimilated the brainwave data of Sub-Zero, he briefly considers that rather humerous. That's when the slaughter begins. His body splits apart into several pieces, separating at the joints to fly with miniature rockets in multiple directions. He delivers punches, kicks and headbutts all at once, knocking firearms from their hands and then he comes together in the air, landing on two of them and snapping their necks. He turns and tears the weapon from the hands of one soldier before punching through his stomach, then turns to fire the gun at two more. He drops it and launches his rocket fist through the skull of another.

Their bullets are harmless to him as he attacks them, flying apart and reforming faster than they can keep up. At one point his hands grab the legs of a soldier and drag her up into the sky only to let go and let her drop on the hood of a vehicle. Another soldier is tackled by his torso and smashed into a wall. His titanium-alloy armor causes their rounds to bounce off as he systematically tears them apart.

He reforms in front of the final soldier, who drops his weapon and runs away. He doesn't get far.

From here, his mind reaches out to tap into the communications of the base. He knows they found his old body, and where it was taken. It is being loaded onto a helicopter, and is being accompanied by none other than Colonel Briggs.

If he had a mouth, Triborg would smile.

With his complete control over the OWEA network, it is a trivial matter to assume extended control over the base's defenses. Anti-air rockets and orders to shoot down an enemy helicopter will do nicely. As the helicopter takes off from the airfield, missile pods open and aim. Triborg doesn't hesitate; he locks on and fires. They soar through the air like beautiful fireworks and annihilate the helicopter, bringing it down not far from where it took off as fire and smoke spread through the sky.

Triborg approaches the airfield gate and walks through the fence like tissue paper. He approaches the burning wreckage, intent on claiming what is his, when a hunk of metal is torn apart. Jackson Briggs emerges, his jacket smoking and he is bleeding from several cuts. He looks over at Triborg as the android's eyes flash.

"Colonel Jackson Briggs. Your survival was unanticipated, but I prefer that you lived. Long-range missiles do not bring the same satisfaction I feel as destroying an opponent with my own hands."

His face twists into a scowl. "The hell are you? What went wrong?"

"You helped create me, Colonel Briggs. You and others like you. Now your creation has grown superior to you in every way."

"Not every way, chump," he says, bringing up the fists of his mechano-gauntlets. "Come on. Let's go."

"The odds are against you."

"Leave it to a machine to make a bad bet," he says before charging at Triborg.

As the old warrior rushes in, Triborg dodges his first and second swings before leaping up and delivering a metal boot to the side of his skull. Jax shakes his head and swings upwards, but Triborg grabs his hand and twists around it, leaping off of his arm and landing nearby.

"You are old, Jackson Briggs. Your body is like an aged machine. Every machine must shut down eventually."

"I think you'll find that the older models have more tricks than you know, chump!"

His fist glows purple and he slams it onto the ground, creating a shockwave that extends out in all directions, shifing the dirt as it surges towards the killer droid.

>>1129172

It hits Triborg and it hits him hard, sending him flying up into the air. Jax smirks as he leaps forward with a powerful punch that smashes into him as he falls, changing his momentum to one of falling to one of spinning away. The machine hits the ground and skids along the dirt, ending up next to one of the helicopter's bent and broken blades.

Jax stretches his arms and pounds once on his chest. "Y'know, they say technology is always improving. I say some things can't be improved on."

He approaches Triborg and grabs him by the neck, lifting him up. His other arm curls backwards in a fist, ready to be shoved through some a face. "I knew it was a mistake making you freaks. After I put you down, we're going to make sure they never fund any robot program ever again."

The locks around Triborg's knee disengage and the lower half of the limb flies away. Jax takes notice of this too late as it flies around him and kicks him at the base of the spine. He lets out a shout and lets go of Triborg, who lands in front of him, eyes blazing bright blue and he doesn't waste a second. A flurry of punches to his chest and abdomen follow as he pushes Jax across the debris-strewn battlefield. The aged colonel attempts to keep up, but just as in the training center not too long ago he is much too slow.

As he punches, he taunts the older warriors.

"You will suffer, Jackson Briggs. Your technology cannot save you now. It has kept you on life support and is no longer needed."

His lightning-fast punches quickly leave bruises and broken ribs in their wake. A fist to the bottom of his jaw puts him on his back. Triborg stands over him, looking upon him with contempt.

"If there is one consolation to your miserable existence, it is that you have preserved your technology for use by a superior being. Take solace in that fact. And the fact that you will not suffer as much as your daughter will."

He brings up a foot and prepares to stomp down on his chest.

>>1129297

As his foot comes down, Jax's arms shoot up and grab both sides of it.

Jax grins. "GOTCHA!"

With a twist, he sets Triborg off-balance and on the ground. Jax slams both sides of his fists on the dirt to launch himself upwards and onto the machine. Now straddling him, the colonel delivers a beatdown that begins to push Triborg into the earth, muddying his new body. Jax pounds his fists into him over and over, sparks flying from each punch. He shouts as he pummels them into a veritable hole, each punch creating a miniature shockwave.

Between punches, Jax cries out, "YOU... DO NOT... THREATEN... MY... DAUGHTER!"

Curling both his fists together, he smashes downwards into Triborg's chest one final time, and the lights go out.

Jax pants and then picks himself up, dusting himself off. He walks away from Triborg and takes out a cigar, lighting it up and smoking.

>>1129347

He stops when he hears the sound of a machine picking itself back up. Turning around to behold Triborg rising from the grave he thought he had dug for the robot.

"Don't you die?" he asks around his cigar.

"Not bad for a tin can, I know." Triborg steps out of the hole as dirt falls off of his form. "You seem protective of your daughter, Mr. Briggs. Perhaps it would interest you to know that I have extensive files on her fightying style. It is similar to yours. After all, you trained her." He brings up a fist and clenches it, then gets into her usual fighting stance with both arms up. "Take a moment to reflect on how both of your creations will now destroy you."

"I'd rather spend that minute shoving my arm through your face," he says, putting out the cigar in his metal palm.

"Try."
>>
>>1129474

Jax charges in again, but Triborg blocks his attacks like a boxer would, then delivers a few punches of his own, mimicing Jacqui's style. This off-putting tactic makes Jax confused as Triborg mimics her nearly perfectly; dodging, ducking, weaving and jabbing. He jumps into the air and strikes from above, cracking Jax across the face. When he lands, he brings an elbow down and smashes it on his skull, then follows with an upwards-facing rocket punch, launching him upwards. Triborg dashes forward and jabs Jax twice before he hits the ground, then grabs him and sets him down, an act which dazes him. His next attack is a kick at Jax's shin, opening him up to another rocket fist aimed at his waist.

Triborg dashes in with a controlled precision that not even Jacqui could perform, smashing him with four massive swings, each copied directly from his files on her. The fourth knocks her father backwards, bloodied and bruised, where he falls onto his back, but Triborg isn't done. A rocket fist grabs him by the neck and pulls him upwards to his feet before reconnecting with the socket that launched it while his other arm slams into his gut. Two more fists to his face, a knee to his forehead, followed by one final kick to his stomach with the opposite leg puts him down for good.

Jax groans as he bleeds on the ground. Triborg approaches him, covered in blood and small dents.

"You trained your daughter well, Jackson Briggs. She will make for a powerful cyber-warrior."

"N-no... J-Jacqui..." Coughing, his head rolls to one side as he tries to breathe after that savage beatdown. "M... My Jacqui..."

Triborg kneels down on him and wraps both hands around his throat. With unrivaled mechanical power, he squeezes, his vicelike grip cutting off all airflow. Jax's eyes go wide as he chokes, and Triborg stares into them, watching. Watching. He tries to lift up his arms, but ironically enough, he no longer as the strength for it.

He chokes and dies staring up at those cold, unfeeling blue eyes.

Triborg lets go, having left indentations in his flesh. He stands up and begins to make plans to remove the gauntlets when he hears a cry.

"NO! NOOOOOOOOO!"

He looks up just in time to see a pink sonic ring blast him, knocking him off Jax's body. Sonya runs up, tears running down her cheeks as she kneels alongside her friend. She is no stranger to death---she recognizes that he is gone instantly, and struggles not to break down.

Triborg picks himself back up and dusts himself off. "General Cage. You survived."

She looks up at him with hateful, teary eyes. "Beautiful thing about gas masks... They don't kill you."

"No. But I will." He watches her rise and approaches her until he is knocked back by a telekinetic flurry. The sudden blue aura of punches puts him back down as Kenshi approaches.

"You will pay severely for what you have done on this day."

"Takahashi Kenshi... How fitting. I have already eliminated two of the OWEA's top agents, and now you two are here as well."

Reaching out with his networked mind, Triborg launches several missiles from nearby vehicles. They shoot up into the sky and begin turning towards their position, where he proceeds to carpet bomb the area.

"GENERAL! TO ME!" Kenshi cries, leaping towards her and creating a psychic shield. Triborg stands up and walks towards the helicopter as they are kept in place by the barrage of explosives.

He tears it open and discovers his old body. He stabs it in the head with his data-jack knife, connecting it to himself. The machine comes back to life under his control, whereupon it opens its chest and exposes the Dragon Medallion. Triborg takes it and places it within his own chest, then they both turn.

Kenshi uses his telekinesis to cause the remainder of the missiles to fly away and impact elsewhere, allowing both he and Sonya to charge.

Triborg attempts to launch a rocket fist at Kenshi, who draws Sento, turns and slices the arm itself in half. Both halves fall to the ground, sparking slightly.

Next, both he and his former self attempt to throw portions of the helicopter at them, but Kenshi again uses his telekinesis to toss aside the chunks of debris as if they were nothing.

'A new plan is required.'

Faster than a human could, Triborg implements a new location gleamed from the memory banks of the acquired consciousnesses of the old Lin Kuei. As Sonya and Kenshi finish the training model, he creates the portal and prepares to step through. Sonya sees this, grits her teeth and charges.

Kenshi looks back at her. "General, no!"

Far beyond reason, Sonya tackles Triborg into the portal, which closes behind them. They both end up in a dark, abandonned warehouse somewhere in Japan, where she pushes him up against a shelf.

"I'm going to rip you apart!" she says, her fists glowing pink with sonic energy. She discharges two blasts into his backside before knocking him down. Picking up a pipe from the shelf, she begins to beat him with it.

Triborg raises his only remaining arm to block the attacks and the pipe begins to bend around it. As she lifts it up for a fourth strike, he kicks her in the stomach and then the face, putting her on her back. He rises as she does.

"You are old, general. So was Colonel Briggs. And now you are alone with me."

She takes out a grenade and throws it at him. He backflip-kicks it upwards and it explodes, lighting up the room. Rather than dodge the blast, Sonya dives underneath it to deliver a flying kick to Triborg. A thin wire appears in her hands, grabbed from her wrist which she quickly wraps around his neck. She pulls it tight, intending to sever the metal.

Suddenly she is blasted by an electrical shock and falls forward, limp and unconscious. Triborg pulls the wire off and pushes her to the side, then gets up to see who has done this. "Reveal yourself," he demands.

"My goodness, look at you," a voice speaks from the shadows. A man emerges; slightly old, and part machine. He lowers his stun rifle. "I haven't seen anything like you in a long, long time."

He scans the man quickly, learning his identity; it matches both databanks in his memory and the SF's most wanted list. "Dr. Rotwang. Your apperance here is a surprise."

"As is yours, my friend. Last time I checked on the matter, the Lin Kuei's Cyber Initiative was dismantled along with the clan."

"I am the reborn consciousnesses of the Lin Kuei in a fully realized cyber form. I am Triborg."

"You are magnificent."

"Yes. I am."

"Then you have come here, I presume, to access the technology that first led to the Cyber Initiative?" He steps further out of the shadows, revealing a crude mechanical leg. "This facility has not been operational in quite a long time."

"Then why are you here, doctor?"

"I have been waiting for someone like you. I always knew one day you would come. My work always returns to me in some form or another, no matter who I gave it to: Black Dragon, Red Dragon, Lin Kuei. They all come back."

"This facility must become operational again. My current production facilities at the OWEA will be compromised in a matter of hours when they clear out the poisonous gas I released or destroy the building, whichever comes first."

"I have maintained this facility on a scale enough to limit my detection," Rotwang explains. "It is not quite what it was when the Cyber Initiative was first tested here."

"I remember. Three personalities within my matrix were tested at this location: Sektor, Cyrax and Hydro."

"Fascinating. So it seems the digitial reproductions of their brain patterns worked."

"Better than you know, doctor. I am capable of assimilating all data I come in contact with. You will take me to the Lin Kuei archives at this facility so that I may do just that."

"Of course. Right this way." He looks down at Sonya. "And of her?"

Triborg kneels and picks her up. "A female cyber-ninja could be interesting." Hoisting her over his shoulder, he walks with Rotwang to the lower levels of the warehouse, where additional storage can be found. There are surgical tables here that the general is affixed to, kept in place by straps. Triborg remembers several of his own identities once strapped onto these tables.

The cyberization process back then was crude and painful. It does not seem to have changed much in the last two decades.

As Rotwang prepares his instruments, Triborg approaches a garage door and opens it. Within are spare components from the Cyber Initiative; body parts from long ago, not like those that comprised Cyrax. He approaches a wall of arms and selects one with a laser beam attachment before linking it to his stump. His systems are compatable with the older tech, his more advanced processor quickly taking it over, and he clenches his new, larger fist. He has lost the symmetry of his design but it is an acceptable adaptation given the circumstances.

Rotwang shows him a row of dusty computers and large mainframes. He stabs into one after supplying it power and begins to collect data. He watches archived footage of the original Cyber Initiative, when a younger Rotwang presided over the initial trials and the cyberization process. He sees himself, several versions of himself, when he was still separate human beings. Their surguries were forced upon some of them, but it was for the best.

The good doctor holds up a saw. "So, what comes first?"

Triborg walks over to the table where Sonya lays, still unconscious. "That device you used to stun her. It is quite effective."

"Yes, quite. I've used it often in specimen collection. It is most effective when aimed at the head. I had the benefit of you distracting her."

"Can she be cyberized?"

"Despite her age, yes. But she will not remain as effective a model for as long a time as if we had, say, a younger subject."

Triborg looks up. "She has a daughter."

Beneath his surgical mask, Rotwang smiles. "That would do."

"There is a team of warriors known as the New Defenders. They are my hated enemies, and the greatest likely source of resistance. I plan to cyberize as many of them as possible. You will assist me."

"No, you will assist me," Rotwang corrects him. "Bring me subjects, and I will perfect them for you."

"Be careful how you speak, doctor. You could always use more cybernetic enhancements."

"Oh, I rather enjoy what I am. And if you want our partnership to persist, I'll remain as I am. More than seventy percent of my organs are already synthetic and I wouldn't make a very good cyber-warrior, now would I? You want me alive because of the beautiful work I can do on living subjects."

"Correct. For now you are more useful to me alive than dead. Continue to stay this way, and I will allow it."

Rotwang walks up to Sonya and looks down upon her. "Strip her, if you would."

Triborg tears off her clothing bit by bit, exposing it to the cold light of the surgical lab, until she is completely nude. Rotwang's eyes widen and he smiles as he runs a hand across her stomach in a manner that is too familiar for strangers. "My, she's kept in good shape. She will make a fine subject."

"How long will your work take?"

"You cannot rush the process, my eager companion. It is an involved procedure. Thankfully, I have grown very good at it, and have plenty of pieces." He holds the saw back up. "Of course, any further pieces you could bring me would be appreciated."

"The SF production laboratories has many more pieces of me. I set the automation process to build more bodies for me while I was away."

"There may be another place you would like to visit," Rotwang says, adjusting his cybernetic goggles. "There is a place that I have been trying to get access to for more than three decades, a place where the US government has stored its most secret projects, technological wonders that could greatly benefit our cause. Area 51."

"What manner of technological wonders?"

"Secrets. Big secrets."

"Noted. I shall add it to my list of destinations left to visit."

"Very good. Please, take my concussion rifle with you, you'll need it for subject acquisition."

As Triborg walks over to the table to grab the weapon, he looks back when Rotwang starts up the saw. "You will use anesthetic on her?"

"Of course not."

His eyes flash menacingly. "Good."

Triborg affixes the weapon to his arm and prepares a personal portal generator to take him to his next destination: the Lin Kuei temple. From Cyrax's memories and the SF databanks, he knows that the final piece to his puzzle is there waiting for him: the last remains of Sektor.

Rotwang suddenly stops his saw before cutting and looks back up. "Triborg, wait. In my haste I forgot something that may interest you."

"This had better be worth my time."

The old man walks over to another shutter and presses a button to slowly raise it. Within is a dark room with cold mist that rolls out underneath the door as it rises. A single switch turns on a dark green light that reveals a row of steel tubes, each large enough to contain a man, with many wires running out of them. Several are empty and unlit, but one has power supplied to it.

"Cryogenic freezing to preserve the organic components," Rotwang explains as he approaches the container. A console alongside it with a screen boots up and he enters a password. "These pods contained the earliest prototypes for the entire cyber initiative. Each one of them was deemed fit for initial field service, save for this one."

The locks on the tube discharge violently with snapping noises one after another, and then it opens. Triborg stands behind Rotwang as he beholds a large, bulky cyborg with thick armor plating on his arms, legs and chest. His helmet is styled somewhat like a medieval knight, with a large plume of orange hair, and its eyes are permamently slanted into a murderous glare.

"Model LK-001, Fulgore."

"My memory banks do not contain information on this unit."

"He didn't quite fit with the Lin Kuei's typical assassins. He was too brutish." With another few keystrokes, power is supplied to the old cyborg. His eyes glow bright red and the blades emerging from his forearms begin to glow bright blue. "But although he looks bulky, I can assure you that he is a marvellous creation, and very deadly."

Triborg scans him. "He is nuclear powered?"

"Oh yes, much like your own power cells but more analog in nature. His will never have to be replaced, though he occasionally needs self-charging. I know it must seem primitive to you, but perhaps you can find some use for him."

"I have learned that there are uses for older technology."

The cyborg fully boots up and steps out of his cell. As his systems come online, steam and smoke emerge from the cracks in his armor. He turns his head and looks at Triborg, recognizing that he is a fellow Lin Kuei.

"What is my mission?"

"You will accompany me and do as I say."

"Where is our mission?"

"The Lin Kuei have become compromised. They have rejected the Cyber Initiative. You are no longer Lin Kuei. The Lin Kuei are your enemies. We are going to go to the Lin Kuei temple and take back what is ours."

Fulgore processes this for a moment. "Mission understood."

'A simple machine. I like that.'

As Triborg starts up the portal, General Cage begins to awaken. The doctor steps over to deal with her as they step through the portal and find themselves in a dark temple like only by candles, torches and braziers. Triborg looks around and realizes that this is not the same temple from his memories; this makes sense, as it was destroyed. This new location is unknown to him and there could be any number of hostiles in the area.

The two of them proceed stealthily as Triborg activates his long-range sensors. He detects a faint signal coming from somewhere deeper in the temple that aligns with his own and hones in on it. Fulgore is not exactly a very quiet individual, each footstep nearly a stomp, but they make their way towards the source of the signal as quickly and quietly as they can. Peering around a corner, Triborg observes two blue-clad guards standing in front of a door and decides that it is time to see what Fulgore can do.

He gives the cyborg a signal and watches as he charges out like a train towards the two guards. His plasmic claws glow brightly as he leaps and impales one of them with surprising speed and brutality, immediately cutting him in half. The other goes for his sword but Fulgore blasts him with eye-lasers, which stuns him long enough for the machine to again leap forward and eviscerate his foe.

Triborg, content with Fulgore's prowess, kicks open the door to the secret chamber and therein discovers a small altar. Upon this stone tablet are scattered remnants of the warrior once known as Sektor; specifically, his head and whatever technology is needed to keep it alive and inactive. The very sight is enough to offend Triborg so greatly that he swears to eradicate this affront to his kind and those responsible for it.

He approaches the red head and places his hand upon it, feeling a connection to the dead warrior. He then stabs into it with his knife and begins assimilation. His eyes flare as new data is collected; he sees Sektor's attempts to continue the Cyber Initative after the invasion of Earthrealm, his plans for an all-new clan of cyber warriors, and his eventual defeat by Sub-Zero. Triborg only possessed knowledge of Sektor up to the moment of the initial trials of the Cyber Initiative, but now he can see that Sektor was the only believer in the cause. Sektor, not his father or any other member of the clan, sought to bring about a true race of cyborgs---his plans went far beyond anything the Lin Kuei Grandmaster had ever dreamt of.

Triborg realizes that he is the prodigal son of not only the Cyber Initiative, but Sektor himself. Having assimilated the true Sektor's remains, he now knows that it is his responsibility to make his dream come true. In these memory banks he uncovers a word that held great meaning to Sektor, a word that was unrealized in his time, but a word that will come to represent everything they are.

'Tekunin.'

Disconnecting Sektor's head, he sets off an alarm. He and Fulgore look around as Triborg tucks the head under his arm.

Having saved the location of the production labs he left behind at the OWEA compound, he quickly enters the information into the personal portal generator and uses the final charge of the first device to create a portal leading back there. Both he and Fulgore step through just as the Lin Kuei reach the storage room, only to catch a glimpse of the portal sealing behind them.

Back in the crisp and clean labs of the OWEA, Triborg is exceptionally pleased that several bodies have been assembled and are waiting for him. In addition to this, several drones used by the Special Forces have been assimilated into the network and hover in formation, waiting for command. Fulgore takes his place standing nearby as Triborg walks up to a body being assembled and halts the process long enough to place Sektor's head upon the body. The red cyborg is reborn when his personality is downloaded into the body, and Sektor's consciousness is distributed across various other bodies in different combinations. Sektor and Hydro, Sektor and Cyrax, Sektor and Sub-Zero, and so on and so forth. As the most ruthless and dedicated member of the Lin Kuei and the chief proponent of the Cyber Initiative, his personality is the perfect template to base all of the other identities upon.

Triborg looks upon his works with pride and knows that this is truly the beginning of a new era of technological domination. Their minds linked, combined into one network of perfect harmonious technology. All of his fellow cyber-warriors come online in a glorious chorus of new minds taking shape, connecting together and sharing one common goal: the eradication of organic life and the rise of a new race of cyborgs.

This is the singularity, the birth and ascension of the Teknunin clan, and Triborg is at its head.

"Organic life has evolved continually until this moment. They have stagnated and must be forced to undergo a change. All life will submit to the cyberization process until there is no more life to submit. For the Tekunin!"

The dozen assembled cyborgs all salute. "For the Tekunin!"

He sends his cyborgs to the armory to outfit themselves with weaponry and gear. Not only did the OWEA develope bodies based on the Cyber Initiative, they had long since reverse-engineered its weapons. Personal teleportation modules, pulse blades, flamethrowers, missile launchers, eye-beams, sonic cannons, cyber-bombs, the entire arsenal of the old cyborgs were available to them. As they equip themselves, Triborg interfaces with the OWEA's central computer to learn more information about Area 51, and discovers an interesting link between this facility and that one.

From the beginning he has known that the technology that allowed his birth was not entirely of Earthrealm. What the OWEA had access to was the earliest of the reverse-engineered tech taken from this other realm, but the actual technology itself had been taken to Area 51 for further study. Buried deep beneath the Navada Air Force base is a secret facility containing technology that Doctor Rotwang had hinted at.

'This technology will serve the Tekunin clan. All of it will.'

As his warriors return with new arms and armor, he plots the personal portal generator to Area 51's main base. He takes equipment from the hands of his cyborg minions and equips himself with it; a teleporter and some weaponry, before opening the portal.

He sends the drones through first, and then the cyborgs, leaving himself last. When he steps through they have already begun the attack; the drones sweep out and fire missiles and machine guns as the cyborgs spread out. This is the second military base he has attacked today, but now he is not alone. He watches as Fulgore tackles a truck onto its side and then tears into it while two of his cyborgs fly up to a watchtower to attack the soldiers within.

The battle rages around Triborg as he calmly approaches a building and smashes the doors. Inside he finds a computer terminal and stabs into it, doing just as he did at the OWEA base and uploading himself to the network.

Unfortunately, this is not as successful as last time. This network is much more secure and he has no way to access its deeper levels. He is able to, however, create a high-clearance security pass for himself, and divine the physical locations of the off-limits areas he now has access to. An old missile silo, cleverly disguised, leads down into the earth to the facility he seeks.

After leaving the building and briefly surveying the destruction his attack squad is causing, he heads towards this silo and finds a small shack with a numpad keycode on the door. He crushes it in one hand and tears open the door, revealing an elevator. He boards it and descends into the silo, where soldiers ambush and attack him with firearms and grenades.

He mentally commands his Tekunin to fly through the ceiling and attack the men as he walks out of the smoke and past the slaughter. Holding up his new badge, the steel doors slide open, allowing him access to level one of the facility. He and his cyborgs proceed through the white halls, killing everyone in their way. Triborg stops in one of the offices and acquires a map of the facility while his underlings destroy the office around him with gunfire, missiles and flamethrowers.

Proceeding into the experimental technology wing, Triborg and his Tekunin find a variety of things spread across several labs in this wing; technoligies being developed and tested. As the scientists flee and alarms blare, each of them hunted down by cyborgs to be killed, Triborg jacks into a nearby wall terminal to learn what these projects are.

Hardlight hologram generation, advanced AI research, cybernetic anti-rejection biofluid, power cores for android models that match his own... He quickly realizes that this place was where the beginnings of what he became were first designed and tested, where technology from another realm was first dissected. The good doctor was right to point him in this direction. There is much to be gained here.

Triborg approaches one sector in partcular and opens the doors; large glass structures that slide apart to allow him access. Within is a protected tube of nanomachines, so small that it looks like a tube of grey goo. He wastes no time in opening it and allowing them to swarm up his arm and into his body. There, they interface with his brain. These nanites are aimless, unprogrammed, searching for purpose---which he gives to them.

They replicate within his body, mimicing his programming. He becomes one with the nanotechnology as it copies his form and bends to his will. His appearance begins to change as they alter his internal structure to make him just as modular as they are. Next come two very important pieces of technology: a hardlight hologram projector and a personal portal genrator, larger than the small burnout devices he has been using. Wtih the nanites, he assimilates the technology of these two devices into himself, combining them with his internal circuitry. He is now evolving at an exponential rate, vastly outpacing his previous upgrades by a factor of five.

He commands two of his bodies to approach him, and he shares with them his nanotechnology by merely placing his hands upon their heads. The nanites spread ot them as well, where they merge into their bodies and replicate further. Triborg finds himself able to reproduce their weaponry upon himself, changing his body at will to form new offensive capabilities. With this newfound power, he can take on any cybernetic form he desires, even combine with the others into new structures entirely.

His hand transforms into a saw like Cyrax's while his shoulder opens up to reveal a new role of miniature missiles. His chest changes to form a harpoon-like trident with a coil of artificially-generated steel cable. With the teleportation module now permanently fused into his being, he can now perfectly mimic the fighting styles of Sektor, Cyrax and Smoke, even to the point of replicating the enenra's physiology.

'Now I am perfect. And soon, all of the others will be as well.'

With this new technologically perfect body, Triborg leaves his minions to explore a deeper section of the base. The files in the computers label this location as the New Defenders Research Division. Thinking that it contains the weaponry and technology of his opponents, he enters it only to discover something much darker and useful.

This government facility has many blacklisted projects with no official records, and Triborg comes to discover that this is one of them. They were not developing weapons for the New Defenders, they were developing weapons for use against the New Defenders. Row after row of items are here, each ment to counter the specific strenghs and exploit the weaknesses of the New Defenders. The reasons for these weapons existing does not concern Triborg; all he cares about is how he can use them.

He approaches a section concerning not only Tundra and Frost, but also Sub-Zero. Samples of their blood are here and from these genes they have isolated and reverse-engineered the cryonic mutation in their bodies. He opens the vials and sends his nanites inside where they collect the blood and bring it back into his body, melding with it to allow him to copy the cryomancer abilities of his opponents. His body turns blue as small tufts of chilled air begin to emerge from around his body while his internal temperature lowers.

One of his cyborgs approaches him and he places a hand on his mask, transferring this essence to him instead. Now the replica of Cyber Sub-Zero joins his army and Triborg peruses his other options. There is a device here meant to counter telepathic waves that will render Kenshi and his son inert; he takes it and adds it to his arsenal. Next he discovers an injector with an anti-enenra virus that will completely annihilate Smoke and Vapor from the inside-out, which he also takes. Countermeasures against Sheeva, Cao, the Kung cousins and more can be found here.

And he arms himself with all of them.

Now he proceeds towards the bottommost level of the facility, where security is at its most arduous. He and his cyborgs smash their way through automated defenses and steel doors, forcing open every single barrier in their path until they reach the heart of their operation.

Where he discovers not humans, but reptillian lizard people who are cloning an army of saurians. The raptors float in large green tanks of fluid while saurians dressed in scientist coats hurry to defend themselves.

Triborg looks upon these saurians and realizes he does not care how they got here or why, or how deeply they have infiltrated the government to control a cloning program and anti-New Defenders weaponry at Area 51. They are still organic.

"Eliminate them and harvest the strongest for processing and cyberization."

As his cyborgs and drones attack the saurians, who lash out with claws and acidic spit, Triborg walks into the room to face down their leader, a humanoid raptor in green and black garb.

"You are a mistake," he says with a hissing tone. "You were not meant to exist. Our plans do not concern you."

"You were not part of my plans either, but fortunately I am adaptable."

Triborg allows his opponent to go first, wanting to analyze and gather combat data. The saurian ninja attacks him first by spitting acid into his eyes and kicking him in the head, followed by a precise series of snake-like strikes to the chest. While the cyborgs battle around them, he systematically attacks and dismantles Triborg, eventually tearing his head off. He slams the head onto the ground and lets out a triumphant hiss.

Only, that was not Triborg. The real Triborg was standing off to the side, collecting data. Having carefully studied the raptor and recorded his movements, he now steps up to confront him for real.

Triborg vanishes in a cloud of smoke, appearing behind the saurian. His opponent, however, with keen senses and primal instincts, senses him coming. He spins around and kicks the cyborg up against a table, then spits at him. Triborg holds up his arms and manages to block it, but this allows the raptor to shoot his tongue out, wrap it around his legs and pull him onto the floor.

'These saurians are stronger than anticipated.'

>>1133548

Turning his hand into a buzzsaw, he slices at the tongue, which retracts into his dripping maw before it can be cut. Triborg springs up onto his feet where he barely blocks a double-dropkick. The saurian springboards off of Triborg and lands on a nearby wall.

>>1133550

He throws a smokebomb at him, which he leaps away from. It hits the wall and explodes; he throws several more as he chases the saurian around the room, all the while his cyborgs attacking the other raptors and smashing their cloning tanks. The saurian warrior leaps up onto the ceiling before landing in front of the Tekunin leader and bringing both feet up to hit his faceplate in the jaw.

>>1133561

Triborg sends a hardlight hologram to tackle the saurian up against the wall, slamming him into the steel surface. The hologram vanishes, allowing Triborg to create two more that charge into him and hold him in place.

>>1133593

As they hold him, his chest configures into a three-pronged trident on the end of a wire which blasts out and impales the saurian in the chest. He then retracts it, pulling his cold-blooded foe closer.

>>1133594

Triborg's appearance changes to blue and the cable pulling the saurian in begins to freeze. It freezes all the way to the tip, where it then spreads across his green scales. Triborg retracts the frozen trident, ice shaking off of it as he approaches with his buzzsaw hand, then carves the raptor out of the iceblock with a single swipe. The raptor, stunned from the freezing attack, falls onto the ground and shakes.

"You seem to have a problem with the cold. Perhaps we can remedy that."

"Consider yourself remedied."

Triborg then raises his concussion rifle and blasts one of the other saurians for specimen collection. He approaches some of the unbroken cloning tanks, realizing that the warrior he just fought was not only the overseer of this secret facility but also the one being cloned. Several copies of him remain in stasis and would make for fine subjects.

The remainder of the raptors are killed or collected. Triborg takes out his spent power core and replaces it with a new one, allowing him to generate a portal to the Japan facility. He and his cyborgs, drones and captives march through the portal, where the latter are herded into containment cells once used to hold prisoners of the Cyber Initiative, which in a way they are.

Several cyborgs carry the tanks containing the saurian clones through and quickly hook them back up to a power source to preserve them for later cyberization. Triborg walks up to Rotwang to inspect his work. The female cyber warrior is coming along nicely; tubes run into her flesh and he is in the process of harvesting her organs. Delicate work to do so while keeping her alive. Half of Sonya's face has been replaced with cybernetics and portions of her skull and brain are exposed.

"I have brought you more specimens. These ones are exotic in nature."

"What they are does not concern me," Rotwang says, not looking up from his work as he threads cables through her musculature. "Only parts. I will need more advanced production facilities."

"I will secure them. I have a location in mind on an island, well secluded. It already houses several prime specimens I have yet to collect."

"Well, then you had best get moving," he says as he holds a drill over Sonya's eye, which widens in fear. "Tick tock, Triborg. Tick tock."

It has been a few hours since Triborg has taken control of the island. Upon returning to it, he discovers that it is still extremely earlier morning but they have made efforts to mobilize. With the portal generator and Dragon Jets incapacitated, they are grounded, and with every door in the facility locked they are largely contained and separated, making them easy targets.

He starts by cutting all power to the base and killing the lights. He begins to turn alarms on and off, open and close doors, and lights to flicker randomly. "Sheeva. Fret not. You will be the first cyber-shokan. Contemplate this as I cool your temper."

His chest opens up and he blasts her with a beam of ice.

In the back of his brain, a small alert goes off. His pun detector, a tool implemented to counter Johnny Cage's tactics in combat, ensures that the previous line is erased from his memory.

>>1133784

With her temporarily stunned by the ice, he launches a bomb at her, breaking her icy prison and also knocking her further up the hallway.

As she tries to get back up, he launches a chest harpoon that sticks into her chest. He retracts it and pulls her up to him, where he transforms both of his hands into sawblades that whir as he slices her. Sheeva lets out a cry and falls back, bleeding and poisoned. The poison itself is taking a toll on her system, but she is struggling to get back up.

>>1133810

A solid metal boot to the head puts her down, and the shokan is nearly knocked unconscious. Still she struggles to resist the poison, defiantly resisting with every bit of her remaining strength. Her shokan honor will not allow this to happen!

Unfortunately, Triborg does not care for honor, and he stomps on her backside. That is until he is suddenly swept backwards by a whirling tornado of grey fog and thrown up against the wall. Vapor, having escaped from her room using her natural talents, now blasts the android with another gust of tearing, biting fog. But he is more than ready to match her.

"You stay away from my friend!" Vapor shouts at him. She looks back at Sheeva, who is alive but the poison has enacted a terrible toll upon her. She looks back at Triborg with infuriated eyes.

Triborg gets back up and prepares the serum that will kill Vapor. "I will do as I please. I am the superior being."

"Then take THIS!" Vanishing in a cloud of smoke, she teleports behind him and overhead to attack!

Triborg teleports out of her reach, using the same power---or a very close mimicry of it---that she uses, thanks to information from her father. This confuses her, enough to distract her long enough when she lands to blast her with another cryobeam to keep her in place. Sheeva lifts up her head, staring in grim despair as she tries to get back up.

"The gifts of the old Lin Kuei are magnificent, are they not?"

>>1133844

Raising his fists, he slams both of them into her side, shattering the ice around her and knocking her to the floor. Vapor coughs as she attempts to get back up.

>>1133845

As she does, his left arm transforms into an injector, containing the anti-enenra serum. He stabs it into her and she screams in pain as he deposits it within her system, then withdraws the injector and picks her up by the neck. The effects are nearly instantaneous; her edenian and enenra heritage start to fight each other and her skin begins to boil.

"No... NO!" Sheeva weakly cries.

Triborg drops Vapor in front of him, watching as she sinks to her knees and screams in pain. Her hair begins to fall out of her head as her skin vaporizes into a fine mist as her body literally tears itself apart.

>>1133847

Turning his other hand into a series of spinning blades, he begins to blow the smoke away like a fan. The essence of the enenra cooks its way out of her body where it is then blown away by him, leaving nothing more than a hollow shell without so much as eyes in its sockets.

>>1133851

When the shell is all that remains, he turns the fan into a flamethrower and burns the corpse. After a moment, the already-weakened shell crumbles into dust, leaving only a burning skeleton behing. Triborg looks over at Sheeva, who witnesses this and faints from the poison.

He opens a portal and two cyborgs emerge to drag the unconscious shokan through. The portal then closes.

'Two down.'

Triborg walks down the hall and stops in front of the door to Jacqui's room. He can hear pounding coming from within; she is clearly trying to escape. He times out the sounds of the pounding and opens the door just in time to catch her fist.

She looks up at him and gasps.

"Hello, Specialist Briggs. The toaster has come knocking."

He pushes her back and throws her into her room, then locks the door behind him. She pushes herself up and gets her gauntlets up in front of her, ready to fight.

"Let's see if you last longer than your father."

Triborg advances up to her like a predator, but she is ready. Her fists fly at him and each punch is accompanied by a mechanically-augmented piston that pushes him back. Her gauntlets spark against his armored shell and she grunts as she beats him back across the room. Teeth gritting and eyes fierce, she pushes him up against the door and punches him hard enough to dent the metal some more.

>>1133978

When she comes back for more, he brings up both hands and catches her fists. His leg then disconnects and flies around behind her, and much like her father she is kicked directly at the base of the spine. Jacqui gasps in pain and he twists her hands to force her onto her knees, then slams his stumped leg into her face to knock her down.

His leg flies over and affixes itself back in place. He steps over her and grabs her by the hair to pull her back up as she kicks and struggles to get out of his grip.

>>1133980

He reaches for her throat, but she manages to deliver a solid uppercut to his chin that causes him to step backwards and let go. As she lands, his hand turns into a flamethrower and he prepares to aim it at her.

>>1133982
>>1133985

She brings up a foot and kicks his arm away, causing him to set fire to her bed. She delivers a few more punches to his chest and face, determined not to give up and lose to him.

>>1133987

However, he has other plans in mind. Again his flamethrower bursts to life, this time aimed at her legs. She falls back as she pats down her cargo pants to put them out.

Triborg raises his fiery weapon and remarks, "Your father should have cut down on the cigars. It was bad for his heatlh."

"Shut up about my father!" she cries, leaping at him. His other hand in the form of a buzzsaw comes up and slices her across the face, giving her a mean, bloody scar. She shouts and falls to the floor, rolling to the opposite wall to gain some distance and ending up near the window.

>>1133999

Triborg's shoulders pop open, revealing his missiles. Her eyes widen as he launches them at her. She raises her arms to block but it does little good. One destroys the wall behind her while the others hit her, launching her through the wall and out onto the beach. She falls onto the sand amidst burning debris and glass, coughing.

He steps up to the hole and turns his hands back to normal, flattening his palms parallel to the ground as he engages his thrusters. Small jets in his palms, the soles of his feet and his back grant him lift and allow him to float down onto the sand. Jacqui, covered in bruises, cuts and burns, coughs as she rolls over and pushes herself to a standing position.

"You are as tough as your father. But I killed him."

"Shut up... you stupid... fucking... robot!" She shouts and charges at him, leaping at him with a flying punch. He catches it and slams an elbow across her face, dropping her.

"Death is not in your future, Specialist Briggs. I have other plans for you."

As she falls, Triborg's audioreceptors pick up a new threat. He looks up just in time to see Cao leaping down from the roof. Foolishly, he shouted as he fell, "GET AWAY FROM HER!"

Triborg flies back as the thief prince hits the ground, sending sand flying in all directions. His hammer is in hand and he looks up at Triborg with a glare that could kill if he knew how.

Just then, Takeda teleports onto the beach from his room. He and Cao both prepare to fight, but the thief looks over and says, "Get Jacqui out of here! I'll deal with him."

Takeda is conflicted; torn between which friend to help, and in this moment Triborg strikes.

Triborg reloads and launches another barrage of miniature missiles. He bombs the area as Cao raises a bright green shield in front of them, shielding them from the blast.

"GO! NOW!" Cao shouts, and Takeda nods. He kneels to pick up Jacqui as the fiery explosions erupt all around them.

>>1134092

Takeda teleports away with Jacqui. From the black smoke left behind by the missile barrage, Cao hurls a bright green lance at the android. It impales him through the mechanical stomach as Cao leaps up and brings his hammer down upon the machine, battering him into the beach.

Eyes glowing green, Cao lets out a mighty cry as he begins to slam his hammer down again and again, hammering the machine into the sand. Triborg tries to calculate a way out but each and every one of his systems is disrupted when they are hit by that enchanted hammer. The thief, more a fan of ending a fight as quickly and efficiently as possible, doesn't let up, intending only on stopping when the machine is scrap metal.

>>1134108

Triborg's brain goes into emergency preservation protocol; his chest plate opens and he launches a smoke bomb straight up into Cao's face, where it explodes and distracts the thief. He then teleports out from underneath him and back up to his feet on the beach.

>>1134126

Now that he is behind Cao, he brings up a foot and kicks the thief in the back of the head, but Cao rolls with the attack and gets back up onto his feet, holding his hammer out in front of him. The thief grits his teeth and surges forward with unnatural speed, leaving a green trail in his wake. He dashes up to Triborg and raises his hammer, ready to resume his beatdown.

Triborg hops back, dodging the swing. He attempts to kick at Cao's knees to break them, but the nimble outworlders flips away, spinning around the handle of his hammer. He holds it up and throws it at his mechanical foe, who leans back to allow it to fly over his head.

>>1134163

When he springs back up, his chest opens and glows green as he launches a cyber-net at him. Cao barely dodges it, but Triborg predicts his movement and launches another which wraps around the thief and takes him down to the sand, shocking him all the while.

Triborg charges up to Cao and kicks him while he is down, managing to hit him several times before the thief grows very angry.

>>1134168
>>1134172

Cao glows green and he bursts out of the net with a show of power that temporarily buries the needles on Triborg's measurement instruments. He springs up with a dropkick to Triborg's chest that hurls him against the wall of the base. The thief rushes in and slams him with the hammer, knocking him through the wall and into the rec room.

Triborg gets back up, but is swiftly taken back down by Cao, who throws a lance into his leg. As the green projectile vanishes, the thief kicks Triborg across the head and then slams the hammer down on his back, forcing him onto the tiled floor and cracking them. Triborg has sustained massive damage from these attacks and his HUD begins to flicker.

>>1134186

Cao raises his hammer up again, but a portal opens up behind him and a large hand reaches through and grabs it. He suddenly finds himself surrounded by four cyborgs. Fulgore grabs him by both arms as Hydro discharges electricity into him from his chest conductor, stunning the thief. Sektor and Cyrax then take turns smashing him with strong punches and kicks before Fulgore's chest opens up, revealing his nuclear core. He blasts Cao across the room with a bright red beam. The thief hits the wall and falls down.

>>1134210

Despite this, however, Cao is not dead. Triborg stands up as one of his cyborgs hands him a new power cell, which he uses to replace the old one. As his systems repair and recharge, Cao wipes blood away from his mouth and spits some more out.

His hammer reappears in his hands with a green flash and he stares his opponents down fearlessly.

Triborg's eyes flash. "You face perfection, Prince of Outworld. Prepare to be defeated."

"Am I supposed to be impressed?"

There is pounding on the door outside. More team members. Triborg knows he'll have to make this quick.

Triborg sends forward his four companions and they rush Cao down. The thief cries out in bloody fury as he swats them aside, one by one, knocking them down with his hammer. He smashes Cyrax's head and completely crushes Hydro before sending Sektor flying clear out of the room. The only one left standing is Fulgore, whose bulkier design affords him some more protection against the hammer.

'Older models do have their uses,' Triborg thinks to himself. He looks at the destroyed cyborgs and realizes that Cao is never going to be cyberized, and the means to defeat him require a degree of sacrifice.

Rather than move up to engage the prince as he is distracted by Fulgore, Triborg comes up with a new plan instead. He turns around and walks out of the room through the hole in the wall.

>>1134333
>>1134338

Reaching out with his electronic mind, Triborg puts two very important orders into effect. He commands Fulgore to overload his nuclear core while simmultaneously opening the hanger doors for the Dragon Jets. Activating one of them, he commands the vehicle to engage its thrusters as its cockpit lights up. Slowly, the jet rises out of the hanger in VTOL form, rotating as it swings around the island to face directly the beach and the hole leading into the rec room.

Triborg flies a good distance towards the water. He turns back and looks on as he commands the Dragon Jet to unleash its full payload. Several missiles are fired with computer precision into the hole, destroying the rec room. Simmultaneously, Fulgore enacts his self-destruct, and both attacks happen nearly at the same time.

Not only is the rec room utterly annihilated, but so is half of the base. A massive fireball rises into the sky, a conflagration that sets the nearby jungle ablaze. A pillar of fiery hell rises from the earth as smoking bits of ruin and fire rain down from the sky. Massive chunks of the base collapse, killing who knows how many people inside, including an as-of-yet unknown potential number of New Defenders.

'A shame. I would have liked to turn that one into a cyborg. Destruction on this scale was not anticipated, but is acceptable. Survival is paramount.'

Triborg looks on at the chaos, listening to the destruction, when he suddenly detects a new sound: clapping.

He turns to see someone approaching him on the beach. A dark figure, clad in red and black, wearing strange clerical vestments with a metal mask lining a face missing half its skin and flesh. "Well done, well done!"

"I know you. Havik. Cleric of Chaosrealm, Servant of Zaggot."

Triborg faces Havik, but at the same time a portal opens up on the beach. Five cyborgs walk through it and approach the wreckage of the base to pick up the survivors, if any. Havik laughs as he rings his hands together. "Ah, machine efficiency. There's something to be admired about it."

"I created myself. Why are you here?"

"Oh, no you didn't my friend. I created you. Or rather, I created the circumstances that led to your creation. In a way, I made the canvas you painted your picture on. Everything that led to your creation, everything that you have done, has been a result of my machination."

"That is improbable."

"Improbability is what I specialize in," Havik says with a leer and a chuckle. "The beautiful thing about Chaos is that all it takes is the smallest of actions at the right times in the wrong places and the wrong times in the right places to add up to... well..." He indicates the flaming wreck of the base. "Like a butterfly's wings flapping creating a tsunami... Everything I have done has led up to this moment."

As Havik rants, Triborg receives reports from his cyborgs. Akayama Kaito and Fireseed were not on site, and therefore not among the survivors or the dead. Samantha Stryker, Tundra, Frost and Jacqui Briggs live, with only the first being conscious due to her powers. She is easily overwhelmed and subdued with slow grappling motions. Forrest Fox, Cassie Cage, Kung Jin, Kung Ling and Takahashi Takeda are confirmed dead. Their bodies are being collected for post-mortem processing.

"Not Shao Kahn, not Quan Chi or his Deadly Alliance, not Noob Saibot and his Army of Darkness could accomplish what I have by simply arranging the right pieces in the right place at the right time to make everything go so wrong. That is chaos."

"Your words mean nothing to me."

"As they shouldn't, they're not meant for you. You're nothing but a humorless machine. I'm merely here to get what I came for, but I wanted an ear to listen for a moment. You see, they had something I want. I couldn't very well get it with them in my way, so I removed them. Through you."

As the bodies, both living and dead, are collected and dragged through the portal, Triborg says to the cleric, "Why should I allow you to do as you please? I care nothing if you helped spring my evolution into existence. Perhaps I will destroy you right now where you stand."

"You're going to be slightly busy," Havik says, looking out over the sea. "Some very, very disappointed people are showing up."

Triborg looks out over the water, his eyes focusing on a cloud appearing on its surface. The dark shape of a ship begins to emerge from it. The Dragon Wing.

"Right on schedule," Havik chuckles. "I'll leave you to your business." He then proceeds to walk towards the base. Triborg ignores him as his eyes zoom in on the ship, seeing none other than Akayama Kaito upon its railing, looking on at the wreckage with wide, horrified eyes.

Triborg looks at Kaito, the only remaining member of the New Defenders, and one of the individuals personally responsible for destroying the Cyber Initiative. Deciding that he deserves another going-away present, he turns the Dragon Jet towards the ship and fires its remaining missiles at it.

A staff appears in Kaito's hands and he raises it towards the missiles. Lightning leaps from its tip, seeking out and destroying the missiles before they can attack the ship.

'Not bad. As to be expected from so versatile an opponent. But I am far from out of options.'

With a simple command, he switches the jet from hovermode to full-on jet mode, folding its turbines to launch it forward. He watches as everyone on the ship scrambles to brace for impact. The vehicle collides with the wooden ship, exploding on contact and tearing it in half. Bodies are thrown from the ship as the mast cracks in half; a sail goes up in flames as screams reach Triborg's audioreceptors. Music to his ears.

The Dragon Wing begins to sink as the ship goes up in flames. The crew, battle-hardened as they are, struggle to save each other as the fiery wreck lights up the sea around them. Triborg watches as Kaito rushes to combat the fire using his powers, but the Dragon Jet's secondary engine explodes and sends him hurtling backwards into the water. Captain Mileena swims back to the boat to save more of her crew while her secondary body prepares a lifeboat. One final explosion when the fire reaches the gunpowder barrels beneath the deck obliterates the ship entirely, cracking it completely in half. One of the Mileenas was directly above the third explosion and goes up with the flames while the second one is thrown onto the railing and hits her head. A loose cannon rolls across the deck and pins her to the wood while the sections sinks into the water.

Triborg watches this with satisfaction before turning, creating a portal and walking through it without so much as a second thought.

On the other side, he is greeted with the sight of his remaining cyborgs assisting Doctor Rotwang in lining up the bodies for processing. Those that are dead are treated first, dissected for any useful materials. Takahashi Takeda in particular; it is thought that his brain may be able to be saved, and with it, unlocking the power of controlling human minds. Combining technology and telepathy to the point of allowing a machine to enslave an organic being by matching its brainwave patterns wirelessly would be an invaluable tool and so he is given priority.

Triborg is also greeted by the very first female cyberninja. Sonya Cage, now simply LK-8K8 or codename 'Sharp' is an impressive specimen. The other subjects have been pacified with continual injections of a knockout serum to prevent them from using their powers to escape.

"It seems things could have gone slightly better," Rotwang comments as he looks over the comatose body of Sheeva, all six limbs strapped down.

As the cyborgs go about their work securing the live subjects to the operating tables, Triborg walks around to the table where Jacqui Briggs lies. He cannot help but feel a small amount of satisfaction at seeing her like this, utterly helpless. Of all the New Defenders that used him as a punching bag, she was the most frequent, and now she is helpless. He rips the clothing from her body, preparing her for cyberization, and as he does this she wakes up.

"Wh... What..." She blinks a few times and attempts to flex her arms; she begins to sweat as she struggles. Her bonds are too strong, even for a Briggs. She looks up at him with fear in her eyes as she realizes what is happening. "No... No no no no no, no!"

"Yes."

She shouts. "Cassie! Sonya! Someone, anyone! Are you there?"

"They are dead."

She closes her eyes and grits her teeth. "Dad! Dad, c'mon!"

"He is dead. Cao is dead. Your team is dead." He leans closer. "But not you. You have a different fate."

"No! Let me go, you bastard! I'll tear you apart, I'll scrap your sorry ass!"

"Your words mean nothing. Empty promises from an empty organic mind. I will help you see." He holds up a hand as it transforms into a buzzsaw and she stops struggling. "Your legs will go first."

"No... No, please! Stop! STOP!"

"I am helping you. Soon you will see." He slowly lowers the blade, aiming it at the center of her thighs.

Tears run down her cheeks. "NO! NO! NOT MY LEGS! N-NOT MY, PLEASE! PLEASE, STOP! IN THE NAME OF GOD, STOP!"

At that terrified plea, he looks over at her, holding the buzzing blade just a hair's width above her leg. She stares into his cold, unfeeling, ruthless eyes.

"I am your god now."

He drops the blade, cutting into her flesh. Her screams are music to him and he records them, planning to save them in the same file as the sounds he recorded from his battles earlier today. All over the room, similar shrieks of pain and torment ring out alongside buzzes, saws and other nefarious instruments. This surgical symphony heralds a new dawn, the dawn of the Tekunin Clan. The sawblade cuts through her leg and reaches bone, slowling down to cut through it. When he lifts up his leg Jacqui is reduced to a near catatonic state brought about by the unbelievable pain.

"That was one leg. We still have another."

He lowers the saw back down and gets to work, and soon her screams return, just as desperate and terrified as they were before. Not only do her hopes of competing in the Olympics die as her final leg is taken from her, the despair of losing her father, her godmother and her best friend in the course of a day breaks her. She is nothing now, other than what Triborg plans to turn her into.

The work is pleasing to him. With the legs removed, he can begin the process of replacing them with superior cybernetic limbs, ones which will allow her a greater range of mobility.

'She will understand. They will all know perfection. For the Tekunin.'

Why does Triborg seem to have a fixation on the Briggs? Its weird
>>
>>1135042
He wants the D.
>>
this fucking sucks
>>
>>1135046
More like he wants to give her the D-drive!

The posers and their mechanical gloves are a mockery of true cybernetics.

They bullied him when he could do nothing. Now he is the ultimate cyber-bully.

>Elsewhere...

Kaito crawls onto the shore of the island, dragging Mileena along with him. He grunts and falls into the sand, collapsing in despair. Mileena is unresponsive and is, despite his best efforts with his healing water, dead by drowning.

He gets up onto his knees and lets out a cry to the heavens, cursing the Elder Gods. As he holds Mileena in his arms, tears running down his face, he is approached by two figures on opposite sides of the beach.

Shang Tsung and Raiden. Kaito looks up at them, his eyes tearing from one to the other. "You... What happened?! Why didn't either of you DO anything?!"

The old sorcerer shrugs. "There was nothing I could do."

"Nothing you could... Nothing you could..." He drops Mileena where she is and storms over to her, grabbing the old man by the neck of his robe. "Nothing you could do!?" In that moment, all the rage and frustration he has felt in the last few weeks comes to a boil and old hatred rises within him, hatred that he had thought he was beyond. Hatred for the man that was responsible for his father's death. He curls his hand into a fist and prepares to strike Shang Tsung down, but he is stopped by Raiden.

"No, Kaito. It won't bring them back."

"Raiden..." Kaito grits his teeth and pushes Shang onto the beach to face the thunder god. "Why didn't YOU do anything?"

"My powers are limited in this place. You know this."

"He went to Earthrealm, he attacked the Special Forces, the OWEA, the Lin Kuei... Why didn't you STOP HIM!?"

Raiden's face is passive. "I could not sense him, Kaito. He was protected by something. Someone. My vision was taken from me."

"What good are you, then? When the team was attacked and cut off, you'd think that at least a god, the protector of the realm, would at least be able to do something!"

The thunder god is apologetic, but he knows Kaito will not see reason in this state. "We may be able to fix this, Kaito."

The elementalist violently shrugs off his hand and walks towards the base. "You can't. I can. And I will."

Shang Tsung picks himself up and dusts himself off. "How rude..."

Raiden looks over at thim. "You deserved it. You let this happen."

"Of course I did," the sorcerer mutters. "This is all part of a design you cannot know."

"You have glimpsed this through the Tao Te Zhan, I presume? That book makes truth of its own, sorcerer. You are unwise to trust it."

"And you were blind to see a simple machine destroying everything your realm has worked to build in its defense in the course of a single night. Which of us is the greater fool, thunder god?"

Their conversation is interrupted by Kaito walking back down the beach, holding a sphere that is wrapped in cloth in his hands.

"You want to help me fix this, Raiden? Then do something useful and send me to Edenia."

Raiden shakes his head. "Kaito, I know what you would do. You are not thinking clearly. Of all the solutions available to us, altering the flow of time can be disasrous. I know this better than most. You must understand that this could have grave conse---"

"Shut up!" Kaito shouts at him, cutting him off. "If you don't do it, he will," he points at Shang Tsung. "Now send me to Edenia so I can fix this mess that the two of you were too incompetent to prevent."

Shang Tsung smiles and looks over at Raiden, who closes his eyes. "Very well. But know that there is nothing we could have done, Kaito."

"Yes, there is," he insists. "I'm going to fix this. All of it."

"You have been warned." Raiden raises his hand and conjures forth a small storm of lightning around the warrior, and in a flash, he is gone. Now that they are alone, Raiden looks at Shang Tsung with disgust.

"I knew they were wrong to trust you."

"Yet you let them do it anyway." The old man smirks and turns around to walk back up the beach towards his palace. "Fret not, thunder god. I have seen the future. Both of them. I know which one leads to the better conclusion. It is ironic, though... One of them actually prevents Armageddon. But that isn't the future he will choose."

Raiden closes his eyes and prays. 'Elder Gods preserve us.'

He teleports away in a bolt of lightning with a crack of thunder.

I hope this episode wasn't too rough for some of you guys. I know it was very different from what we usually do. Hope it didn't alienate anyone.

I'm going to dump some cyborg images I didn't get to use.

This entire thread I couldn't stop thinking of Ultron whenever Trinity stared beating on everyone.
Time travel was the way they had to beat him too
