>You are Maple Son-Mahogany, one of two young Tuffle twins thrown at Earth starting in early Dragon Ball by your "father," Dr. Raichi

>"Canon" had already taken a sharp turn from the "norm" when you began, and through your actions, choices, and dialogue, took even further turns from the "norm," and will probably continue to do so

>Stats and dice mechanics are used, and can be explained again as needed

>Let's all try to have some fun, ok?

Last time, on Dragon Ball Tuffle Quest Z! You encountered Gero’s latest creations, Artificial Humans 17, 18, and 19, formerly Hasky and Colonel Silver, and a strange, pale girl. After escaping them, you gathered at the Lookout, learning of three more foes sent by Towa, with the Aquma. And to make matters worse, you and your brother discovered a strange, buglike monster stole a Time Machine and is causing havoc in Gingertown. But a ray of hope shines through these gathering dark clouds...

“Well, at least we know she’s alive...” Acer comments in relief.

Bulma rubs her eyes, a soft smile appearing on her face. “Y-yeah...” Her daughter catches a glimpse of the blue-haired woman in the crystal ball, flying quickly, and seems transfixed on her.

However, Bra isn’t quite flying towards you. She seems to be headed in another direction, checking her watch, then accelerating. She might not be aware of what’s going on. Or she is, and she’s focused on something else important right now.

Agh, what to do...

>A. Acer, we’re going to practice Fusion, then try to meet up with everyone
>B. It would be better to practice Fusion in the Time Chamber, you first need to know why Bra is here, and hopefully can explain the situation to her

Honestly Time Chamber is probably the best place to really practice it. Who knows how much time we have our here, when we could have 365x that much time to practice in the HTC.

“Hrmn... Acer, I’m going to contact her, try to see if I can explain the situation to her. Then we’ll start up Fusion practice, okay?”

He nods acceptingly, Pantea turning to him and asking why fusing with you is so important. He gives a brief summation on the stuff you saw, and you get to contacting Bra...

‘M-Maple? Ah, been a long time.’

You smile softly. ‘Wish I could catch up, but we’ve got a maaaajor situation going on...’ You start to explain about your encounter with 17, 18, and 19, there being a “19” at all catching her by surprise. The attack of Towa’s trio and how Chuu Lee, Krillin, Lapis, and Lazuli are facing them. And most worrying of all...

‘Wait a minute... that sounds like Cell! Well, the one I encountered...’

‘Cell?’ ...its name is “Cell.” Reeeal creative, Gero.

‘Agh, but I can’t go deal with him right now. Time Patrol’s set me here for another reason.’

...she’s not here for that thing. Oh this can’t be good. ‘What’s that?’

Bra is oddly quiet for a moment, but you can tell her thoughts are focusing on something all too familiar to you. ‘Mira, I believe you remember him?’

‘Vaguely...’ you reply, recalling the strange and powerful figure that defended Towa once already.

‘Well, Trunks and I fought him back when we met you, with Buula’s help. We can’t let him interfere more in this timeline, or else he’ll just get even stronger.’

‘Do you think you need any of us to help?’

‘No, we can’t put any of you at risk. But... agh, listen, give us some time and we’ll be able to help you deal with Cell. Promise.’

‘Got it. And... Bra? Stay safe.’

A laugh echoes in your mind. ‘Of course. You too, and watch over mom. Er... Pantea’s mom. Uh. B-Bulma. You knwo what I mean.’

She flies off, and you relay what you learned to everyone else. Acer crosses his arms. “So that Cell guy might be here because of Mira. At least, that’s what I’m betting on. Damn it, wish we could help her...”

“First thing first, brobro. Fusion practice.”

>A. Let’s try it in the Gravity Chamber, it’ll train our bodies the more we attempt it

You and Acer opt to try it in the Gravity Chamber, to train your bodies as you practice the Fusion Dance. Before you attempt it, you both share your minds, syncing them together, using the Fusion experiences you’ve had before, and doing your best to match your bodies and movements together.

While the immense pressures from 100x Earth’s gravity would initially seem like a hinderance... if anything, it helps the both of you focus. And together...

https://youtu.be/akDKRow0QiA

“Fuuuuu...”

“SION!”

“HAAAA!”

The power flows through you both as your bodies combine, you clenching your fists right for a moment, then releasing them. “Hey hey, looks like I’m neither Maple nor Acer anymore. Guess you couple call me... Aple.”

...this feels incredibly weird. Well, at the very least, you are definitely sure you’re a “they” now. But... eh, the power is one thing, you still feel weird. Aaaand hey your minds are sharing everything.

...

Okay you are not going to dwell on this any further. You try for a bit of practice to get used to your new form. It’s strangely different from when y- ...Maple, fused with Chiaotzu. Everything feels more in-sync, for lack of a better word.

Exiting the Gravity Chamber, you happen upon Chi-chi first, rubbing the back of her head. “I mean... you’re even stronger than when Maple fused with me, but is this weird to anyone else?”

“Eh, a bit.” Mark adds. “I... think I’ll stay away from thi-”

“SION!” a pair of voices echo from Dr. Briefs’ garden.

...Wait a second, that’s-

“HAAA!”

A bright flash can be seen in the garden, followed by matching voices cheering joyfully that they did it. And... from the Ki, you know exactly who they are. Oh what are they up to n-

“Haha, looks like we just joined the Fusion team!” a girl declares as she points at you all, wearing an outfit matching the one you have. “You can call me... Pandel! Just point me at the bug guy and I’ll have him going back crying to whatever time he came from!”

Ohhh gods they actually mean it too.

Mark and Bulma cross their arms and bark out “Absolutely not!”

>A. ...girls, it’s good that you learned it, but you two should stay here and train first. You’re still not strong enough

“You think so, huh girls?” you ask with a cocky smirk. “Tell you what, you get past me, you can come along.”

Bulma looks to you in surprise.“MA- uh, AC- ...er, ... Aple!”

‘They’re getting a big head over this. I’ll knock them down a peg.’ you assure her. “Well? Think you can take this?”

“Hah, don’t underestimate me! The two of us are gonna pull some real surprises on ya!” Pandel replies, a smug grin across her face.

And while they cross their arms and laugh, you teleport in front of them and raise your Ki. Not enough to really grab anything’s attention, but enough that they should know better. “Is that a fact?”

“GO AUNT-PA!” you hear Izzy cheer. You look back to her and smile, Chi-chi picking up the girl... riiiight as Pandel tries to land the first blow.

You catch her fist almost effortlessly, then toss her down to the ground. As she lands she manages to stop herself, chasing after you and trying to land a kick. You grab her by her ankle and start moving. “A bit too crowded in here, girls. Let’s take this outside.”

You bolt out of Capsule Corp, tossing Pandel into the sky and hovering about a meter off the ground. You sense them power up... a purple aura flaring around them, sparks flying. Well, looks like they’ve already gotten the Raio-Ten under control. Pandel blitzes down at you, flames covering the palm of her hand. And... at the last moment, you deflect it away, flipping the other fused fighter over and throwing her to the ground once more.

(cont.)
>>
>>1135544
“H-hey! Stand still!” she protests, rubbing her forehead.

“A real foe wouldn’t be giving you this time to breathe, girls.” you instruct.

Pandel tries to blits towards you again, shouting “EAGLE KICK!” as howling winds flow around her legs. But your superior reflexes, foresight, and sheer speed make dodging it almost too easy.

She tries dashing around you to land her knee in the back of your head, and you merely duck under her, dodging the next kick she tries to follow it up with. As Pandel starts to build up Ki in her hands, you use your speed to dash behind her and make a gun shape with your own, poking her in the back. “Aaaaand you’d be dead right now.”

They grumble in frustration. “No fair! You-”

“What I used against you is probably a fraction of what Cell can do, and is definitely a fraction of what 17, 18, and 19 can do.” you state harshly. “You’ve got strength and drive, but the two of you still lack the refinement to really use this power. I know you two want to help, but none of us want to see you girls get hurt.”

She stands quietly as you lecture, frowning, Ki dropping as she powers down. “But... dad’s-”

“Pantea, what would Yamcha think if you just rushed out there, got yourself hurt while he was recovering? Videl, do you think your dad would just stand by and let you go out on your own? Did the two of you learn nothing from Slug’s attack years ago?”

Pandel lets out an apologetic sigh, but looks at you with frustration across her face “...what’s the point in getting stronger and stronger if we can’t do something to help you guys though? Weren’t you out there fighting demons and monsters when you were our age?”

>A. We were. We made mistakes back then, too. Mistakes we don’t want you two making

You shake your head. “Pantea, Videl, listen, we’re not dealing with your average, run of the mill monsters anymore. And even if we were, back then we made plenty of mistakes. Mistakes we had to learn from, the hard way.” You walk to the fused girls calmly. “Mistakes we want to help you avoid, as best we can. All of us have done reckless things before, that’s why we can speak from experience on why none of us want you girls rushing off and getting yourselves hurt. Because none of Gero or Towa’s creations will show you the same mercy we did.”

Pandel looks away, clenching her fists. “Still...”

“And speaking from further experience, I... Acer died when I was about your age. Saved Yamcha from suffering the same fate. Maple knows exactly what 17, 18, and 19 are capable of, and it’s unnervingly similar. Neither of you should take this lightly, and we’ll drill this into your head until you two understand it.” You start to smile warmly at them. “But we made it through all those hardships, just so your generation doesn’t have to. So your generation gets to make a choice, where it was... and still is, I guess, a constant struggle for us. You still get to be kids. Really be kids. We... didn’t really have that luxury, to be honest. Maple, Acer... they never had the kind of lives you two can enjoy.”

You spot everyone at the entrance to Capsule Corp, Chi-chi with a warm, sweet smile across her face as she holds her... your daughter. Pandel looks back and notices them all, sighing out apologetically again. “Right...”

“Look, I know you girls have your hearts in the right place. You want to do this because you want to help people, and it’s frustrating to feel like you can’t do that. We’ve... been there before. But you can help us by staying safe, and getting stronger.” You place your hand on her head. “You’ve already made leaps and bounds over us when we started. And we know that some day, you’ll surpass us. And nothing would make us prouder than seeing that happen. But we need to make sure that day will come.”

The fused girls finally smile back at you. “We’ll... be patient. But we will get stronger. That’s a promise.”

Thanks for playing!

Yamcha's just woken up, managed to hear you lecturing the kids.

Goku's with the kids, Launch, Tien, and Nappa. He's noticed Raditz has been taking a longer time getting back than he thought his brother would need.

Nappa's been trying to see what the hell is wrong with the Saibamen.

Launch and Tien have been having a little chat about what they need to do, and if they should go back to Mifan to protect people there.

Piccolo's been talking with Kami about a number of things. He still doesn't want to fuse with Kami.

Vegeta has been trying to fight 17, 18, and 19. Being sporting/trying to cover the fact that 17 needs repairs, 19 is taking Vegeta on herself. Vegeta asked if a machine is capable of feeling fear. 19 explains that fear is a natural response when an organism recognizes they are in danger. It's instinctual, a survival mechanism.

19 wonders how long it will take before those instincts kick in for Vegeta.

Chiaotzu has been trying to hide himself from their presence, and is ready to bail Vegeta out of harm's way.

Chuu Lee and Lapis have gotten the Aquma out of the hands of Towa's minions, and Lapis is about to teleport to the Lookout with it.

Bra and the other Time Patrol members have found Mira.

Cell has made a game of hunting the remaining civilians of Gingertown.

We fought 19, managed to damage 17's (Silver) Ki absorber, but 18 (Hasky) drained Piccolo a bit, and we rolled kinda poorly, so we decided to retreat to the Lookout. Vegeta's off to fight the Androids, with Chiaotzu ready to pull his ass out of the fire if need be. Raditz went to Jingle Village to warn Eighter and Dr. Flappe (and keep us from teasing him about his girlfriend).

We went to Capsule Corp. to try and find out more about the bug thing we spotted on the computer in Wheelos lab, and now Cell is here. We then found out Bra is here too.

Also Chuu Lee, Krillin, Lapis and Lazuli encountered Towa's minions, trying to do something with the devil water stuff.

Pandel walks back to everyone, Chi-chi approaching you and smiling as she holds Izzy. “...really does feel like we’ve been going through this most of our lives, hasn’t it?”

For a brief moment, you recall asking Chi-chi to come train with you with Master Roshi all those years ago. She never really had to be a part of this... but if she weren’t, would you- ...would Acer have found a woman like her? You recall a question Maple asked Acer during that fateful day where... “You... ever thought things would end up like this when we all first met?”

She looks down at Izzy, then shakes her head. “It’s always been an adventure with the two of you around. I wouldn’t trade it for anything.”

You feel your cheeks get a little rosy as she says that. You snap out of it as you hear Yamcha’s voice, “Neither would I.” You spot him putting his arm around a surprised Bulma, the purple-haired woman asking him if he’s sure he should be walking already.

A sudden jolt in strength alerts all of you to something. That feels like... Vegeta. And he’s taking his fight even more seriously now, but if 17, 18, or 19 drain that kind of power...

...

You’ve still got a good 20 minutes of your Fusion left.

>A. Guys, we’ll be off to keep Vegeta from doing something stupid, be back soon
>B. You can depend on Chiaotzu to drag him out of there, ask Yamcha and Chi-chi if they’d like to spar a bit in the Gravity Chamber. You need to make sure your skills as a Fusion are up to par
>C. ...your fused minds mean you’ve got access to even more brainpower to draw upon! Instead of training your body, exercise your mind with Bulma some and work on the Ki containers; it could give you an edge in figuring out 17, 18, and 19’s Ki absorbers and countering them

Bring out Masamune and ask the spirit of the blade how to deal with this new evil.

The sword is literally evil's bane. It has to have some idea.

Plus now like the sword, we're merged as one being. The blade itself is two spirits in one. I feel like there's a deeper connection there too.

You trust Chiaotzu. He’ll get Vegeta out of there if anything goes wrong. But you’ve got more important things to do right now. Fusion has done more than make you stronger; your Tuffle minds are working together now, and it’s time to put that to use. “Bulma! We’ve got about 20 minutes of this brain to use before we defuse, so let’s put it to use.”

“P-pardon?” she mumbles.

You tap the side of your head. “Remember the Ki containers we’ve been working on? We’ve made some good progress in the past, but maybe we can put what we learned about them to use against 17, 18, and 19. Those Ki absorbers are the biggest threat to all of us right now. We should learn to counter them.”

Her eyes light up. “Now you’re talking my language! Yamcha, you get yourself some more rest.”

He laughs. “Bulma, I’m fine! Really!”

“You just recovered from a heart virus! No strenuous activity!” she orders.

“Maybe you should take some time meditating?” Chi-chi asks.

Yamcha hangs his head. “Fiiiine.”

“Now, Aple.” Bulma starts with an almost sparkle in her eyes. “Let’s get to work!”

In Bulma’s lab, the two of you bring out the Ki container design notes you’ve worked on, the prototype in the corner. Already, you’re starting to see some patterns; while you don’t have a complete reference to compare with, you can recognize some things that would make the most sense to actually store energy with.

You start talking things over with Bulma, and she mostly agrees. “But the problem is getting it to such a small scale. The ones that King Piccolo had used some kind of conversion technique, magic stuff, and even then they were almost the size of you.”

“Perhaps it’s partially organic? Just like how our cells can store tremendous amounts of energy, maybe that’s how they’ve used to store the stuff they take.” you speculate.

“Well, if those two were based on Silver and Hasky, then they might be doing that.” she adds. “...if that’s the case, I kinda start to feel bad for that girl. What if she’s just someone Gero kidnapped and forced to undergo that proceedure?”

“I- ...Maple didn’t really sense the same kind of thought process with her that 17 and 18 displayed. She could be more like Eighter... but if that’s the case, how they store energy is-”

...

A brilliant idea springs to mind, and you bring out the Masamune. “A-APLE! Hey! No swinging swords in the lab!”

“Masa? Mune? Can you hear me?” you ask the blade’s spirits, confusing Bulma initially.

The confusion turns to surprise when they reply. “So, finally swallowed your pride and did the dance?” Masa questions.

“Hah, the red and blonde mixed hair certainly makes it look that way!” Mune chuckles.

You rub the back of your neck. “H-hey, no time for that now. Listen... I’ve got a couple requests. First, Bulma and I would like to analyze you two and how you store energy into the sword. Second... well, I think you two heard all about Cell, right?”

“We know as much as you two do.” they state together.

“Still, from what you can sense of it, from what you’ve seen... think there’s anything we can do?”

The two are quiet for a moment, Bulma tilting her head. “Talking swords used to stop timeline-hopping bugs, huh?” she remarks.

“This ‘Cell’ seems familiar to us. Can’t quite place our fingers on it. It has an evil presence to it... not a demonic one, but one of vile and much more... ‘mortal’ evil. If we were closer, we could get you a better explanation to it, but as of now, we’re not sure we’d recommend it.”

>A. After we’re done, we’ll scout him out and see if we can learn more about him
>B. Can’t risk it. We’ll wait on confronting Cell, but we need to know; do you two think the Masamune could strike him down?

You hold the blade and ask Bulma to check with her Scouter how you channel Ki into the Masamune, you keeping a careful look on it yourself. You take a deep breath as your power flows into it. To Maple, it’s not quite the same experience as using your own sword, but to Acer, this is an almost too familiar sensation. And... with a fresh mind working with a familiar one in this, you start to get some insights into how the Masamune actually does it.

Masa and Mune are helping your Ki flow.

It’s more than just the blade itself, it’s the spirits inhabiting it that make the sword truly... well, work. Far beyond what it would be capable of on its own, and leagues beyond what your Ki container can do. The twin souls of the beings inside the blade enhance it to a phenomenal degree.

...

But if this is the case, then...

You and Bulma blurt out simultaneously, “Souls!”

With a slap of your head, you see just what you’ve been missing. And it’s so obvious. “They ‘store’ it just like we store energy. Because they have souls of their own, but with bodies enhanced far beyond normal human limits.”

Bulma keeps tapping on her Scouter, then goes over her notes. “And taking in Ki through such small area...”

“It’s like the reverse of a Ki blast.” you add. “Small enough not to be damaged by energy attacks. But with such a small surface area, it’s surprisingly fragile. Probably can’t be TOO durable or else it wouldn’t be able to take in Ki as easily.”

You and Bulma continue to analyze the Masamune, you fluctuating the amount of Ki you add to it, then comparing it with the Ki container mechanism you have. It lacks a soul, so it can’t readily take in as much energy. And... there are other flaws to it, ones Gero probably already fixed in his latest creations, save one...

“Here.” you tap a section of the schematics. “High kinetic energy simply can’t be absorbed by them. But they usually have their defenses up unless taking in energy from their hands. Oooor...” You get to the energy release section of the Ki container. “When they’re using attacks in that area themselves. If we time things right, we may be able to overcome their defenses to the Ki absorbers and shatter them AS they’re attacking.”

“That does sound incredibly risky.” Bulma comments. “But... it’s the only real lead we have. Do you two think that’s enough?”

You ponder on what you’ve learned a bit. “Masa, Mune, think Melchior might have a lead for us to go on?”

“He is an expert craftsman, but without a sample, I doubt he could figure out more than what you two know.” Masa answers.

“Hrmn... what about our chances if we use used you two against them?”

“Much like Maple’s blade, we would be a target for them, and even more potent.” Mune states.

Gah, true. Looking to the clock, you have about 5 minutes of Fusion power left. Then... tou feel a sudden flash of warning... and then sense Vegeta’s Ki start to drop. Chiaotzu’s bolts up. Looks like the Saiyan Prince is in trouble, but if Chiaotzu couldn’t handle this he’d contact someone. Still...

You briefly look in the direction of Chiaotzu. You... no. He can do this. You’ve got more important things to do. “Bulma, thanks for your help. I think we’ve got a surefire strategy now.”

“Eh, it’s the least I can do.” she says, flashing you a thumb’s up.

“Hrmn... Chi-chi! Think you can help us real quick?”

The black-haired woman pokes her head into the lab, a blonde head doing the same below her as Izzy mimics her. “What’s up?”

“This might sound a bit strange... but can you put these on?” you ask, using the Clothes Beam to make two pair of gloves with earrings located in the center. “I want us to try this strategy out. These things are about the dimensions of the Ki absorbers on their hands. So... we need some target practice.

Chi-chi rubs her head. “I... guess?”

“Perfect!”

The two of you enter the Gravity Chamber, passing by Yamcha, Pandel, and Mark meditating together, slipping the gloves on, you take your stance, Chi-chi doing the same. You keep things low, just enough that you’re actively using Ki to push back against the gravity, but not too high that it shatters the earrings.

Chi-chi starts it off, dashing to you and trying for crane strikes aimed at the gloves in your hands. Your superior speed and strength make it hard for such a strategy to work, but she knows your moves even better than you were expecting, even as a Fused fighter, dodging and protecting her hands as you counter. The exchange goes on, you both eventually using the Raio-ken to try and one-up each other. The crane strike strategy does put you on edge, but it’s not enough to make up for the difference.

“Come on Chi-chi! I know you can do better than this!” you shout, dashing around the Gravity Chamber. “Try to read my movements!”

She increases her attacks’ ferocity, but soon stops. Chi-chi backs away, going on the complete defensive, letting you gain the upper hand... for a moment. As you try for a Machinegun Punch, she actually moves behind you and grapples you in a full nelson! She kicks herself off the ground, pulling you with her as she tries to make you land head-first. You manage to plant your hand quickly enough to stop yourself.

And feel a sharp pain go through it as Chi-chi stomps on it. You shout in pain, “AGH! OW! Hey, what w-” ...the earring is broken.

Chi-chi jumps in the air triumphantly. “That was a risk, but it worked! Haha, looks like I still got it!”

...Of course! They can’t absorb energy in the BACK of their hands! “Wanna try that again sw- ...Chi-chi?” You almost called her “sweetie.” Half of your mind is not appreciating that.

She takes her stance. “You do still have one left.”

“And just like with 17, that’s still a danger.” you comment. This time, you go full-speed, countering her almost effortlessly. You’ve got her movements down, and while she’s trying to switch things up, it’s not enough for her to keep up the pace. Still, she’s fighting smart, and even the Izumi Combo doesn’t let you get at the earring in her glove.

...But you know something that will.

You back away to dodge a sledgehammer strike, Chi-chi following it up with an axe-kick, and then a palm strike. You counter with a palm strike of your own... but materialize a spherical nugget of diamond as you do. Your palms meet, and the force from you pushing the diamond at her palm smashes the earring.

You’ve got it. A strategy that they can’t just easily counter.

You find yourself locking fingers with Chi-chi almost instinctively, causing her to stop and try to pull away, a slight blush appearing on her face... riiiight in time for the Fusion to run out. You split apart, back into Maple and Acer, with... Maple still holding her hand.

You let go and laugh out apologetically... aaaand then notice where your brother’s hand is.

“...maybe after we live through this.” Chi-chi comments dryly, Acer backing away, his face a bright red.

>A. Iiiignoring that. Chi-chi, Acer, we’ve got our winning strategy! Think we should practice it some more?

“AHEM. Iiiignoring that... Acer, Chi-chi! We’ve got our winning strategy!”

“Well, one of them, at least. But it’s still a risk, especially after... what just happened.” Acer comments, looking in the direction of Vegeta’s fight.

Well... Vegeta’s Ki stopped dropping, at least. But Chiaotzu’s still out there, on his own. You’re about to try to jump in and help him... when to your relief, you sense Lapis and Chuu Lee beat you to the punch, with Nappa there too. The two move off in opposite directions, and it seems like Nappa is rescuing Vegeta.

But Chiaotzu is still in the same place. Agh, you can’t take this waiting! You need to know SOMETHING! You telepathically contact Chiaotzu. ‘What’s going on? I sensed his Ki drop-’

‘I’m holding 19. I’m doing my best to buy them some time.’ he responds. ‘She nearly got all his Ki, but if I can just keep her in place...’

‘O-oh your own? Chiaotzu you won’t last very long like this! I should get Goku, or Raditz, or someone to help you!’

There... he doesn’t give a telepathic response for some time. But you can tell he’s... talking? ‘I can buy them some time.’

...

You place two fingers on your forehead and focus on Chiaotzu’s Ki, readying a Solar Flare in one of your Spirit Bits. You teleport in, spotting Chiaotzu struggling to hold 19 in place. You send the Spirit Bit at her and let it flash out. “Chiaotzu, we’re getting out of here n-”

https://youtu.be/O4eQsM1-pVI

A beam pierces your side, missing your vitals, but still sending you to the ground. You clutch it in pain, managing to see 19 having turned her head. “Dr. Gero did not have data on that technique. But it seems it was a simple maneuver to adapt to, with enough warning.”

“Maple!” Chiaotzu shouts, almost losing his grip on 19, but quickly reestablishing himself. You see him grit his teeth. “...You don’t have to do this!”

“I am following my programming. I will assist 17 and 18 in collecting your energy. Stalling this is unwise, your strength will fail soon.” she replies coldly.

“You just said that you can adapt, right?” the pale young man asks. “So what reason do you have to follow his orders?”

“What reason do I have not to?”

...you heal yourself, but get in on this, still appearing wounded. “I can think of a few. Gero has a habit of abandoning things that don’t live up to his expectations. You fail, and he might just leave you in the scrapyard.”

“I will not fail.” she responds in the same monotone voice. “The Aquma should be in place soon.”

The Aquma? So there is something bigger going on, and that’s the main event. “Heh, that might be a bit harder than you think.”

“Maple’s right though! You have to be aware of how disposable Gero thinks you are! You’re the ninteenth Artificial Human he’s made, aren’t you? What does that make of all the others?”

“I will not fail.” she repeats. Still monotone... but you noticed that she didn’t try to argue that point.

“What’s the likelihood of that?”

“Mission currently has a 89% chance of success.” she replies coldly. “You delay the inevitable at this point.”

“89 isn't 100.”

“And it’s gonna drop even lower!” a new voice declares. Krillin! He swoops down, placing his hands on Chiaotzu’s shoulder and your own. “Hope you weren’t using that Aquma for something important!”

Before she responds, you’re already gone, teleported to the Lookout.

“Maple!” Goku shouts, rushing to your side, the kids following him. “You okay?”

You pat your recently healed wound, smiling to the three of them reassuringly. “Mostly. Agh, was just a moment too slow...”

Chiaotzu looks to you apologetically. “...didn’t mean to worry you guys like that, but I had to do something.”

“Well, on the plus side, their plot with the Aquma won’t go through any time soon. Kami’s locked it away.” Krillin mentions.

Chuu Lee and Lapis teleport in soon after, Lazuli walking to them. Lapis sits down and sighs out in relief, “Close one.”

“At least I was able to knock the wind out of 17 for a bit there.” the red haired woman states thankfully. Lapis raises an eyebrow at her, smirking. “...Pun not intended.”

“Beelzebub will be here shortly to get the Aquma.” Kami’s voice calls to you all. “But their plans have merely been delayed, not stopped, until that is dealt with. They will attempt to get it back.”

Telepathically inform the group about Cell, Bra's own issues with Mira, the plan we made to deal with the Jinzonningen.

>E. You know, if Chuu Lee used the Bansho Fan with her Wind Magic or in a fusion with Chichi then she'd probably be able to flatten all three of them at once. It's kinda hard to absorb the ki of a goddamn hurricane all focused on you.

Okay, first thing’s first... “Just so we’re all caught up, you guys need to know about Cell...”

After telepathically sharing everything you learned about him, the plan you had in fighting Gero’s creations, and how Bra is here facing Mira. Krillin crosses his arms, pondering. “Maybe...”

“Maybe what?” Lazuli questions.

“Just a hunch here, but didn’t they seem a bit... off?” Krillin comments. “Those guys who were trying to use the Aquma.”

“Now that you mention it...” Chuu Lee starts. “They DID seem to know a lot more about what was going on. Like when they mentioned something happening ‘in the coming week.’ And they kept being so cryptic about who they were...”

“Huh. So Towa’s finally gotten herself a Police Box of her own.” Lapis comments, Lazuli lowly mumbling “Neeeeerd.” at him.

Gah, of course. “So these three... think Mira’s actually responsible for them? Who ARE they anyway?”

“Well, there’s a large, round green guy with bad breath, a tall purple guy with a sword, and this... well, looked like a demon lady, but something was a bit strange about ‘her.’” Chuu Lee replies.

“Did keep on hitting on you.” Lazuli comments to Chuu Lee. “...And Krillin.”

“Hrmn... regardless, Chuu Lee, I’ve got an idea. Chi-chi has the Bansho Fan still, and she’s already practiced the counter-strategy. And from the sound of it, you were able to do some damage with your Wind magic, right?”

“Not as much as I’d like...” she admits.

“Well... think Fusion might be enough?” you ask with a wide grin.

“...It probably would.” she states confidently.

Okay, that’s one idea...

>A. I’ll help you guys with that. Let’s take down Gero’s goons! Who’s with us?
>B. There’s still Cell to consider. Anyone want to take a try at scouting out what he’s up to?
>C. Towa’s trio sounds like they’re here for a specific goal. We need to deal with them, too... who’s up for that?

“...Goku, your brother hasn’t come back yet, right?”

Your husband shakes his head. “Still up at Jingle Village.”

You cross your arms. Okay, either he’s gotten into some trouble, or he’s been taking his sweet time up there. You focus your mind on his Ki... ‘Raditz, you okay up there?’

You get a surprised “GUFAW” in response. ‘I... uh... I’ll be back soon. Promise.’

‘What’ve you been doing up there anyway?’

‘Something... very important. I’ll... I’ll tell you about it later!’

You’re grinning. You’re trying not to but you’re grinning. ‘I’m suuuure you will.’

‘Maple, no.’

You chuckle to yourself deviously. ‘See you sooooon~’

‘MAPLE!’

Goku places his hands behind his head. “He okay?”

“Oh I’m sure he’s more than fine.” you respond in a telling way, about half of the people there rolling their eyes at you.

“Matchmaker Maple at it again, huh?” Launch questions dryly.

“Aaaaaanyway! I think we should head to that Time Machine, that way we can investigate without running into an unknown. Gero’s goons are dangerous enough, but with that trio out there and who knows what Cell’s capable of...”

“I’ll come with.” Goku states. “If it’s close to where he’s attacking, he might sense somebody approach. Best to have our guard up.”

“I’ll go get Chi-chi.” Lapis comments. “Even with as strong as those guys got, if this strategy works, we’ve got a chance.”

“I’m coming with.” Launch comments. “I... Hasky’s gotten into this because of me. Maybe I can talk some sense into her.”

Chiaotzu, Lazuli, and Krillin all state that they’ll face 17, 18, and 19. Tien tells everyone he’ll stay at the Lookout and protect it. Peppa is about to tell you that she wants to come with you, but Gohan reminds her that they’re still trying to do some training. You reassure the both of them you’ll be fine. Okay, most everyone accoun- ...wait, no, that leaves one person unaccounted for.

“Where’s Piccolo?”

“The Hyperbolic Time Chamber.” Kami states. “He decided to enter there for a day to hone his skills further, after discussing the matter with me. Miss Sanzo has prepared simulations for him to test himself against.”

Ah, of course...

Well, Beelzebub should be there soon, but you do need to stop stalling. “Looks like it’s you and me again, Goku.”

He grins wide. “Yep! Race ya there?”

“Gotta keep a low profile, buuuut... Raio-ken might make it fun.” you state as you start to fly up. “Also, calling dibs on the Time Chamber after Piccolo’s out!”

Chuu Lee snaps her fingers. “Damn. I was hoping I could give it a go...”

“You guys take care!”

Both you and Goku take to the air, bolting off as the Raio-ken’s sparking aura flares around the two of you, moving in the direction of Gingertown. As you approach... you start to feel odd. A familiar and unsettling feeling hits the back of your mind. You’re so used to feeling the Ki of people around, but now... there’s a clear lack of it at the city itself. It reminds you of the time you witnessed the first wish on the Dragon Balls, how... empty the Earth felt.

“...How strong do you think this Cell guy is?”

“Strong enough that he overpowered Trunks... and maybe much stronger.” you tell Goku grimly. “Which is why we can’t confront him just yet.

You both slow down, dropping the Raio-ken, and start searching the nearby countryside. It takes a bit of work, but you finally find it. The Time Machine.

You slowly float towards the Time Machine, observing it. “Goku, can you look around and try to find the shell? It looks like that bug we saw earlier today, in Wheelo’s lab.”

“Got it!” he says cheerfully, looking around the area.

You brush some moss off the Time Machine’s engine, revealing the word “HOPE” on it. A sense of dread comes to you. Whoever Cell stole this from... agh, no. Gotta focus! You next observe the broken dome... it’s like something blasted right out of it. You carefully open it up and notice something... it’s got power. It’s too far gone to be used, but you do notice a display on it reading out a date. Age... 763? This thing has been here for FOUR years and nobody noticed?!

You further notice somthing under the seat of the Time Machine, what looks like that mutant coconut you saw years back... and a photo. You recognize most of the people in there. Goku, Bulma, Yamcha, Chi-chi, Krillin... though there’s a boy there you don’t recognize. But you can probably guess his name.

...

You put the photo away sighing softly. “Maple! Found it!” Goku announces.

Hopping out of the Time Machine, you dash towards your husband. And there it is, that oversized cicada, split open. “Guess that solves one thing for us.”

Goku tries to move it, noticing that there’s still some kind of substance dripping from it. “Huh, looks like it’s fresh.”

“Then Cell really has only been active recently...” you comment, then glance towards Gingertown proper. “Which means he did all THAT in such a relatively short amount of time...”

...

Wait a minute...

“Samma Ditthi...” you breathe out. You can’t quite SENSE something, but...

‘Come out, come out, wherever you are, little boy~’

...Cell’s making a GAME out of hunting down anyone left. You clench your fists. He’s still a few kilometers away from you, in the city proper. But...

>A. Sense the kid’s Ki, teleport to them, and get him out of there. No more of this!

Use the husk as a conduit to Cell.

His biggest mistake was leaving behind his genetic material. We could use this to make a connection to him with our magic, especially since it's fresh. Scry his ass up and then hit him from afar.

Thaumaturgy motherfucker, do you know!

Basically, we voodoo doll his ass.

Can we even do half of that?

I thought the whole point of going here instead of the city was to avoid direct confrontation with Cell?
>>
>>1141846
We're mainly a user of evocation type magic. Basically the quick and dirty type. We've never used the sort of magic that targets someone indirectly beyond just using tracking spells.

It's atleast worth a try.

You tap two fingers to your forehead and lock on to the kid’s Ki. It’s faint, but... aha! You find the child hiding in an abandoned building... clutching a pink sweater tight. He looks up to you in surprise, but you put your finger to your lips, telling him to keep quiet.

“You’re doing a very poor job of hiding, little boy~” a sinister voice creeps into your ear as odd footsteps come closer and closer. “But then again, I shouldn’t play with my food. Doctor’s orders. I need to get big and strong.”

You smile confidently as you place your hand on the kid’s shoulder. Out of the corner of your eye, you see Cell’s tail waver slightly. But you’ve concealed your Ki completely. He doesn’t know you’re there.

And he never will.

You teleport away the moment he tries to look, a residual, soft “Huh?” entering your ears, confirming that he missed seeing you at all. You appear near Goku, the kid looking up to him quietly.

“That was a close one, Maple.” Goku comments.

“It’s the least I could do.” you reply. “...I’m sorry we couldn’t help sooner. But we’ll get you somewhere safe.” The kid’s still quiet, but seems to at least appreciate that. Poor boy’s in shock... he might be about Gohan’s age, maybe a bit older. Gods, the things he just went through today... “...We’ll get them back. And we’ll stop that monster. Promise.”

Did we capsule up the time machine? Do that first.

Then get a read on how Cell works by reading the kid's mind. He probably saw his entire family get eaten up, so we may need to help him deal with those traumatic experiences.

That...or he could be Android 20 or something but I doubt that'll happen again.

You place a comforting hand on the kid’s shoulder, taking a moment to read through his mind. He clutches the pink sweater tighter. The poor boy... Cell really did make a game of hunting down his father, mother, and then let the kid run... You flinch as you see the boy vividly remembering how Cell “feeds.” That tail of his... it stabs into his victims, and then slowly drains them of... well, everything. You cover your mouth, trying not to hurl at the sights you see him living through. No wonder he’s in shock...

“G-Goku... I need you to get him somewhere safe. Take him to a town... maybe warn some people about what happened here.” You walk to the Time Machine. Agh, if you knew how to return it to its Capsule, you could transport it easily. Maybe you should wait on this, though. “I’ll take that shell to Capsule Corp.”

He nods. “Okay Maple. Stay safe.”

Goku picks up the boy and flies off as you pick up the remains of Cell’s larval state, teleporting to Capsule Corp., right next to Bulma in her lab. “Map-WHAT IS THAT?!”

You place it down gently, grimly telling her, “...What Cell molted from.”

Her eyes open wide, then she looks away. “A-ah...”

“He’ll be on the move again. It’s a race against the clock before he happens upon another city and starts to clear it out, just like he did at Gingertown.” A shiver travels down your spine. “Can you help find out what he’s made of?”

She nods with determination. “I’ll do what I can.”

You feel a sudden surge in power again. That's... definitely Chuu Lee, and Chi-chi with her. They've fused!

...

And Cell is probably sensing that right now too...

Cell is incredibly confused. That hasn't happened to him before. He was searching for the kid until he felt a strong Ki in the distance. He has no clue who that is either. And it kinda worries him, but he figures that it's only another town or two before he eats enough to match it.
