Your name is Keiichi Hirayama. Your sister is named Airi Hirayama. The two of you are magi—humans with magic and a greater affinity for the Spirit World—and possess a bizzare tendency to cause chaos wherever you two go. Last year, through bullets, explosions and freak accidents, the two of you managed to help interrupt Japan's premier magus academy battle tournament--The Festival of Magic—thrice in a row.

To say that the Ministry of Education is furious would be an understatement. As punishment, they have forced you and your sister to undergo mandatory community service. There are ten tasks to complete and they must be all done by the tournament start date, lest you both be blacklisted from every educational institution and workplace in the entire country. You think it's absolutely retarded, but it seems like there's no choice. You and your sister must step up with your sister and overcome these trials, otherwise your future career will become nothing more than dust in the wind. The eyes of Shibuya and the spirit world are upon you both, so good luck and don't screw this up!

Destruction: The first category of magic. To destroy, to remove, to eradicate. As expected, most offensive spells fall into this category. Considered by spiteful spirits to represent the true nature of humanity.

Restoration: The second category of magic. To heal, to restore, to replenish. Restoration magic is a vital part of any magi's arsenal. Even the weakest ones make sure to learn the most basic of first aid spells. Unfortunately, there is no restoration magic capable of bringing back the dead, even among the spirits.

[5th of May (THURSDAY)]

Your name is Keiichi Hirayama and you are standing in the student council room with your twin sister. There’s identical pamphlets in your hands. Giving another cautious look at the student council president, who is seated at the opposite side of his table, twiddling his thumbs while looking nervous, you scan over the pamphlet.

>TRUE HEARTS IS PROUD TO PRESENT:
>THE 14TH THEATRE PRODUCTION.
>THERE WILL BE LIGHTS!
>THERE WILL BE CAMERAS!
>THERE WILL BE ACTION!
>THERE WILL ALSO BE MUSIC, BECAUSE THIS PLAY IS A MUSICAL!

>ADVENTURE, ROMANCE, TRAGEDY, HORROR! IT’LL BE ONE OF THESE GENRES, AND IT WILL BE FANTASTIC!

>ENJOY ALL YOUR FAVOURITE STUDENTS ACTING OUT ONE OF THE BEST WRITTEN STORIES OF THE DECADE!

>TO BE CONDUCTED BY THE THEATRE CLUB AND THE LIGHT MUSIC CLUB.
>TICKERTS ARE ON SALE NOW.
>BUY NOW BEFORE THEY ARE ALL SOLD OUT!

The pamphlet is a nightmare assortments of sparkles, red curtains and fonts no respectable office worker would ever choose. You stare down at it, committing the gaudy display into memory, then promptly forgetting half of it. You then look back up at Makoto Kushikawa, who is now embarrassed for everyone in the room.

You raise a finger. “Uh…”

Makoto takes a deep breath. “You know how the Festival of Magic got delayed by a month and a half because of assorted issues…”

“Well…”

“And the Ministry of Education told me to give you guys an extra task to fill the gap…”

“That’s kinda…” You say, sounding annoyed.

“So I wanted to find you guys something that wasn’t too hard, but would satisfy the officials…”

“Makoto…” Airi begins, and trails off.

“So I asked around and remembered that there’s a play in a month and a bit and oh god please help us here!” Makoto slams his head against the table, performing the very image of a dogeza as conducted by someone glued to his seat. He raises his head like a man burdened with the weight of the earth on his shoulders and—oh god, is he about to break into actual tears? How spineless is this guy?

“We’re understaffed, there’s not enough talent and the script hasn’t even been finalized yet!” When ordinary people think about student council presidents of the Big Four Academies—slang for True Hearts, Stonewolf, Caelestis and Lady Sagisawa’s—they imagine a quarter of leaders who embody the concepts of pride, dignity and diligence. The boy wailing in front of you is anything but. “Half the participants don’t show up to practice. The light club captain is away on extended family vacation and there’s fights over who gets to use the amphitheater It’s a complete disaster! And for reason the staff decided it was good reason to announce the play despite us not having an actual story to rehearse! Also, it’s supposed to convince one of our investors to provide us with funding for next year, and it’s she’s really picky about—”

“Makoto, calm down!” Airi yells, flaring her magic. It sends ripples through the room, filling it with the scent of human iron and moisture. It’s nothing you haven’t experienced before, but it’s enough to snap Makoto out of his mental breakdown.

“Uh, um, you’re right. Sorry about that.” Makoto clears his throat and sits up straight in his chair. His face is still red from all the sobbing, and perhaps the shame of having to be comforted by a woman.

“Is there a problem, boy?”

“Why are you taking an issue with this? You never do anything like that, anyway.”

“I lost my composure there. Sorry, I shouldn’t be doing that. I’m the head of the student council after all.” Makoto sighs. “The stress is a real nightmare, though…”

“Why don’t you start over from the beginning?” Airi suggests, pleasantly. “We’ll sit here and listen patiently.”

“Yeah, I’ll do that. Take a seat you two. This might take a while.” The azure-haired boy takes a deep breath. “You see, this is how everything started…”

>>Makoto: Explain.

After Makoto finishes doing that, making a number of frustrated hand gestures along the way, you’ve gained an understanding of the situation. Firstly, the Festival of Magic has been delayed by a month and a half due to incompetence of subordinates, much to the Japanese government’s irritation and the amusement of thousands of Internet commenters worldwide. Secondly, because of this delay, they’re assigned you an extra task. Thirdly, Makoto has offered you to participate in the school production to compensate, which is threatening to fall apart at the seams.

“Is that all?” Airi asks. She’s thinking hard about this., you can tell.

“That’s the gist of it, yes. So…” Makoto stares at you and your sister with hope in his eyes. “Will you guys participate?”

“Well...”

“Please?”

>“This might actually be fun.”
>“Fine. Things could be worse.”
>“I refuse to be the main character, got it?”
>“Can we think about it?”
>“No way in hell, Makoto.”
>“Another task? Tell the government to fuck off.”
>Custom option.

“Another task?” You growl, folding your arms. “Tell the government to fuck off.”

When you finishing saying this, you see Makoto’s posture wilt like a dried out flower. It reminds you of the time you accidentally left a plate of sliced apples out in the blazing countryside summer. By the time you remembered, the slices had turned into crinkly, brown husks.

“Onii-chan…” Airi shoots out a nasty look. You shrug your shoulders.

“Well, what do you expect? We signed up for ten tasks and now they’re asking us to do eleven. Airi, I’m not going to let us get pushed around by them.”

“No, you’re right.”

You look at Makoto again, who has his face pressed against the surface of his desk. He’s mumbling as an aura of gloom surrounds him. It’s like looking at a depressed mushroom.

“I guess I shouldn’t have brought it up. I mean, you two have been so busy with the other tasks. You’ve already been a big help. You’re right, Keiichi, you guys made a contract to deal with ten tasks. Asking you two to do eleven was out of line for the government. I guess I’ll have to report to them about this. They won’t be happy about it. They’ll crucify me, but I have to do the right thing—”

“Do you have anything to say, onii-chan?” Airi says, hands on her hips. Great, she's pissed. You can tell by the way she's pouting and massaging her scarf.

“…I’m not changing my stance. The government shouldn’t be taking it out on Makoto, anyway.”

Airi intensifies her glare and you put your hands up in protest.

“Look, I wouldn’t mind doing the play if it counted to our tally of tasks.” You state. “But doing eleven is going too far.”

“So, you’re saying that if I made it one of the ten tasks, you would participate in the school play?” Makoto asks, lifting his head, looking like a starving man who was tossed a loaf of stale bread. His hope is faint, but it’s there nonetheless.

“Fine, we’ll do the stupid play.” You grumble. “Can we be facilitators or producers instead of actors? I have zero experience in acting.”

“Do you have any experience in producing?” Makoto asks, smiling. God, he looks so happy. And a little smug too, but maybe that your personal bias acting. “Sorry, there are only slots open for actors. They might make you help with the special effects, though.”

“Why do I feel like I just got passive-aggressively bullied into something I didn’t want to do?”

“Don’t be like that, onii-chan.” Airi scolds. “So, Makoto, about that other topic you wanted to talk about…”

“Ah, yeah. Actually, it’s sort of linked to the play. It’s time for you guys to choose the next task. Here’s the selection.”

You glance at his laptop screen. “There’s only three.” You count, unamused.

“That’s right.”

“We’ve got six remaining.” You say. “Where are the other three.”

“I keep telling you, Keiichi…” Makoto whines. “I haven’t finished writing them yet.”

“What the heck does that mean? Are you ever going to explain it to us?”

“Just look at them, already!” Makoto shoves the laptop in your direction, silencing you.

A MODERN DAY AMATERASU?
Do you know of Hana Takayama? Eh, you don’t? She’s a super talented high school idol from Caelestis College. The top of the popularity charts is practically her personal throne. Fans must book their tickets weeks and sometimes even months in advance! The amount of money she makes is staggering! In addition to that, her face is all over Shibuya.

Anyway, Hana was set to sing at the Festival of Magic last year, but it kept getting interrupted. She was signed on to sing in this year, but a problem has occurred. Namely, she refuses to leave her home! Anyone who tries to get her to come out is immediately shouted away, including her own friends and fellow idol group members. Those who persist are physically removed by her private butler. She has threatened leaving the acadent, quitting her idol career, blackmail and even suicide! This is such a drastic change from bubbly, happy poster girl that Japan knows and loves!

Please coerce Takayama to leave her room! Otherwise she won’t be able to sing properly at the Festival of Magic. They’re already advertised her appearance, so there’s no going back!

SOMETHING MYSTERIOUS FROM LADY SAGISAWA’S
I’m sure you’re aware of Lady Sagisawa’s School of Knowledge. Like True Hearts, it’s one of the Big Four Academies of Tokyo. It’s also a hybrid of a research center and a private school. Some of the greatest advancements in modern magic usage are made at that academy. Only students that possess excellent academic results are invited to enter. Even then, they have to pass the grueling entrance exam.

We received a call from one of Lady Sagisawa’s top educators, stating that there’s a need for the Hirayama siblings. What exactly they wanted wasn’t said. Whoever was on the line preferred to keep the exact details a secret. It’s nothing illegal, us, them and the Japanese government have confirmed that thrice over, but it sounds so mysterious! What on earth could it be? Take this phone number and call them quick!

PLAIN CHORES
It’s just community service the Ministry of Education wants you to do across all the academies. They want you to do stuff like cleaning graffiti, sweeping roads, helping out at the classrooms etc. Yeah, that’s about it. Sorry. Maybe you can get your friends to join in? On the plus side, this shouldn’t take too long.

SCHOOL PLAY
Please help us with this or True Hearts will be embarrassed beyond belief. This task can be run simultaneously alongside other tasks. You’ve technically already undertaken this task, but you can choose another task to start off with if you want.

“So, what’s your decision?”

>>SOMETHING MYSTERIOUS FROM LADY SAGISAWA’S.

>>Task 5: Start!

You taking this task is the reason why you’re standing outside the school gates in the dead of night. As in, your academy’s gates. Not the sleek and methodical white gates of Lady Sagisawa’s School of Knowledge, from which your client is a part of. The air is damp from a previous shower, your eyes feel like they’re being tied down with lead hooks and the promise of extra English homework is a pressing, foul urgency on the back of your mind.

To say that your mood is less than bright is not an understatement. You stare at your phone as if the device personally offended you. Airi merely looks at it like a normal person. She’s the calmer and more patient of the two. She’s capable of tolerating things that would make you clench your fist and punch a wall. Like this situation, for example. You don’t how she does it, but Akasha-Alea always nags at you to be more like her in that respect.

“Of course. How else will you maintain your posture while sniping?”

“I have no idea why they wanted to us to call them from here…” You grumble, keying in the numbers on your smartphone. “This better be quick.”

Three rings. Then…

“PLEASE MAKE A U-TURN AND WALK TEN METERS TO THE NORTH.” Rings a mechanized, stilted voice.

You and Airi stare at each other.

“Excuse me?” You ask, already getting the sense that something has gone wrong.

“PLEASE MAKE A U-TURN AND WALK TEN METERS TO THE NORTH.” The mechanized voice continues.

“Make a U-turn? We’re not vehicles.” You exclaim.

“PLEASE MAKE A U-TURN AND WALK TEN METERS TO THE NORTH.” The mechanized voice repeats. There’s no difference between the iterations. God, it’s doing the thing Akasha-Alea does whenever she’s pissed. Thus, you and your sister end up following the instructions.

This puts you on the opposite side of the street. You see the pedestrian lights flash from green to steady red.

“You have reached the Lady Sagisawa’s School of Knowledge Help Line. Your ticket is number 9209. For further instructions, please call this number.” It’s a young man’s voice. It places the image of a barista on his first day in your mind. He spits out a series of digits. “Wait for two rings, then hang up. Call the number again, except with all prime numbers replaced with zeros. Wait for three rings, then hang up. Call the second number, but replace every second number with itself subtracted from the number then. Then—”

>Follow instructions.

“Get to the point, you asshole.” You snap.

There’s a pause on the line. The male voice then continues, as if nothing had happened. “Call the second number, but replace every second number with itself subtracted from the number ten. Then, call the third number, but in reverse. After that, you will be put on hold for ten minutes, but a message playing the correct number will play at exactly four minutes and twenty-one seconds—”

“I don’t think the black ops go through processes this convoluted.” Airi murmurs.

“Okay, you don’t want us to do the job.” You snarl into the receiver. “Fine with me. I was planning on getting some actual sleep tonight.”

There’s a hiss of static, as if the phone is dissatisfied with your response. You hear four straight beeps. A car drives by, its passenger confused about two students standing outside their school in the middle of the night. Then, the voice returns, lacking the authoritative, controlled tone from earlier.

“Man, you kids are no fun.” The man says. He sounds easy-going and amicable. You can imagine a pair of feet resting on a table, a steaming mug of black coffee in one hand. “Can you put the phone on speaker? I want to talk to both of you.”

“You have a strange sense of fun.” Airi comments. “Is there a reason you made my brother go through all of that.”

“Well.” The man begins. “I mainly wanted to see if the Hirayama siblings would go through with it. Guess I was wrong. Excellent! The rumors are true to reality!”

If this man was standing right in front of you there’s no doubt you’d be punching him in the face. “What do you want?” You demand. “What is the job?”

“Straight to the point? I like that.” The man says. “Basically, I want you two to guard a box of stuff for a week and a half.”

“Stuff?” Airi asks. “What stuff?”

“Stuff. Important stuff. Stuff used in our research in magic.” The man clarifies. “It’s something that’ll get me and my research time in big trouble during the next inspection.”

“I thought you said it wasn’t anything illegal!” She exclaims.

“It isn’t. Well, in the context of the overall law.”

“What is that supposed to mean?” You ask.

“It means that if the inspectors come by and see us using this stuff in our experiments, we’re screwed. Institute-exclusive rules, you see. Those rules aren’t present in institutions outside of Lady Sagisawa’s, but no, this place just has to be all strict and shit…”

“It isn’t anything dangerous, I hope.” Airi adds.

“Everything in there is stable and non-toxic. Honest.”

“When people say that, it means there’s a catch.” You growl, narrowing your eyes. "Out with it."

“Look kids, I even threw in some incentives for free. You know, like a down payment.” The man states. “Boy, you like guns, right? I got you an old rifle my late uncle used. It’s all cleaned up and shit. Girl, I saw you blow up stuff a lot. I got you some scrolls on how to make your own explosives. The legality of that might be a bit dubious, but it’s from the spirit world, so who cares?”

"...where are the goods?"

"Oh, they've already been delivered to your house. Look for a package covered in birthday paper. It's got flowers and sparkles on it."

“Tell us your name.” You say. “I want to know who I’m working for.”

“Yeah, that’s a little…” The man trails off, uncertain. A comparison to a politician is apt, and is thus made. “If I tell you, it might get leaked out and then we’ll be in big trouble…”

“Do you want us to do this job or not?”

“Fine, call me C. That’s all I can give you. Sorry, kid.”

Seems like that’s all you can do. “Get something better for Airi. She’s not an arsonist.”

“If she wants cash, she can sell the scrolls on the market.”

“It’s fine, onii-chan.” Airi states. “There might be something useful in those scrolls, anyway.”

With that, the job is accepted.

>>Keiichi: Buy a safe.

No, it’s past twelve. You are heading home with your sister and you both are going to sleep. You’ll do everything else in the morning like a normal person.

When you reach your apartment door, you notice the package at the front step, as described. It’s big, about the size of a large violin case. The wrapping is present. It’s also hot pink and the top has a crude smile face scribbled in black permanent pen. The sight of it infuriates you. You toss it on the table and retire to your bedroom.

>>Keiichi: Go to sleep.

You do that. Six hours later, you are woken up by someone poking your cheeks. Six hours is not an adequate amount of sleep for a growing young boy. The state of your person is not an ideal and particularly rational one. You’d lash out with your leg, but you have an inkling of who exactly is poking your cheeks.

“Finally, you rise.” Your mentor says, her lips tightened into her usual small frown, as you sit up in your bed and rub your eyes.

“What do you want, Akasha?” You groan. “What have I done this time?”

“Nothing. I am merely here to communicate a piece of important news.” Akasha-Alea replies. She takes a seat on the side of your bed. She looks into your eyes. You look back, because this is a woman who taught you the importance of looking straight at your superiors, no matter how aggravated you are at them. “In approximately three hours, I will be leaving my territory to travel to the Royal Palace of the Spirit World. There, I will attend a gathering of Waffegeists—weapon spirits.”
>>
“I know what Waffegeists are.” You grumble. “But a gathering of spirits…who organized this?”

“Hephaestus, my father.” Akasha-Alea says. Ah, that makes sense. Hephaestus is the blacksmith of the gods. All weapon spirits are descended from him. Not that they have much familial relationships with him. “The gathering will last for nine days. The purpose is for everyone to catch up with each other. I expect it will consist of dreary parties, sordid affairs, idle talk and the consumption of much alcohol, perhaps with a wargame or two thrown in between.”

“So what does this mean for me?” You ask, mind still bleary.

“It means I will have little contact with you during this period. You will finally gain the silence you yearn for so desperately. Try not to look so relieved about it.”

“Wait, I’m not going to hear you for nine days?” You sit up straight, shocked.

“Why the shock? Spirit mentees can go for months without hearing from their mentor.” Akasha-Alea answers, crossing her legs.

You mentally repeat the news. It doesn’t get any less baffling? Nine whole days without hearing the voice of your mentor, the woman who’s been at your side for three years straight? Without feeling her constant presence, her demands to quit dawdling and get a move on, her constant remarks about whatever is in front of you, her valuable insight and advice? How are you supposed to feel about this?

“It’s only a week and a half, boy.” Akasha-Alea adds. “Please do not have a nervous breakdown in front of me. My luggage is packed and there is no time for me to coddle you.”

Your face heats up. “I wasn’t about to do that.” You object. “I think I’m going to miss you.” You confess.

“Please don’t shed any tears, either. It is unbecoming of a young man.” Akashsa-Alea glances to the side. She falters for a moment. “Without your presence, I suppose it will be more quiet than usual over on my end. There’s no choice but for us to cope.”

She’s right. Besides, if she can make those kinds of remarks, she must not be as worried as you initially thought. And nine days? That’s nothing. It’s also the length of the task you were given, now that you think about it.

What a coincidence.

“Try not to miss me too much.” You quip.

“Don’t flatter yourself, boy.” Akasha-Alea rolls her eyes. A hint of a smirk appears on her. “It’ll be pleasant to go for twenty minutes without hearing one of your complaints.”

“So what does this mean for my training? Am I allowed to skip it?”

“Absolutely not.” Akasha-Alea growls and the air grows thicker with the intensity of her magic. “You will adhere to your daily training. I have left a keystone on your kitchen table. Pour your mana into it and it will grant you access to my territory. You are permitted to use the training facilities available. My familiars are guarding the other sections of my territory and they will report to me if you have trespassed anywhere. They will also be watching you train. If you neglect your training for a second…they will know. And I shall deal our your punishment when I return.”

Scary. It’s terrifying. You almost pissed yourself the first time she did something like this. How old were you back then? Fourteen and a bit.

“Try to find a nice boyfriend or something.”

“That joke is stale and then some, boy.”

As promised, here is Akasha-Alea's special. I can't believe I wrote this.

Also wow every single "Route" barring Michiko's has been crap.
>Getting kicked in the nuts and gift revoked over winning a game
>getting treated as a dump
>having all our freinds killed and our body ravaged and ruined by a yandere sister
>getting raped by our spirit mentor

That ranges from friendship straining to darker than black Twilight Thorn.

Yeah but only 2 of those could be considered hijinks, the Airi and Akasha-ALea ones are dark.
>>
>>1153518
The Michiko write up was kinda cute actually. The others? not so much.

I don't like Michiko anon, she was worst girl by default, and now literally everyone else is ruined.
It's funny in a horrible kinda way.
>>
>>1153540
Well probably depends on the scale of the mentor vs. Mentee. Shesmur is a lot weaker than Akasha-Alea and frankly Airi is more magically powerful than Keiichi. Probably close enough to parity in power for her to do it by surprise.

Of course this is non canon so it could be TT be contrived for the sake of yandere grimderp.

Yeah, I think so too. It's pretty much written like a darkfic, down to pulling powers and excuses out of the ass. If it ain't even canon, no reason to really hold back on the grimderp.
>>
I have to chime in that in general, don't like Michiko, non-canon stuff or not. I used to think that maybe her high and might stuff was a bit of an act, or maybe a defensive mechanism, or something, I dunno what.

But now I think she really is just an unpleasant person that likes to use people like the sociopath she is.

You mean Florence? Florence is the one that uses people and acts all high and mighty. She was the one who used our house as a dumping ground. Michiko was the dive who likes pink and is more or less a girly-girl.

yeah not a fan of Florence myself. non Yan Airi is awesome, Non-rapey Akasha is fine. Nina is funny and great in small doses. Michiko is amusing to tease. Florence just kinda does nothing for me.

Yes, Airi can't devour Shesmur's soul by herself, even if she took him by surprise. I only put it there so that Airi could have an excuse to not have Shesmur interfere.

Now that I think about it, it's actually amazing how many excuses I had to make for yandere Airi to work.

>There is absolutely no way Shesmur or Akasha-Alea would fail to notice Airi picking off her rivals. They'd interefere and incapacitate her.
>Michiko would resist.
>Nina would likely notice someone stalking her in her sleep,.
>Florence can't be assassinated that easily.
>Keiichi would notice something happening to his friends.
>Airi's own parents would notice shifts in their daughter's behavior and have a good long talk with her.

Plus many more. Having said that, all the worldbuilding stuff, like Airi's past anemia and humans turning into spirits if they stay for too long in the Spirit World, is canon.

As for the rest of the specials...it wasn't my intention for them to worse everybody's opinions towards the girls. If it's any consolation, they all can be considered non-canon, since Keiichi spent his last Valentine's Day in a hospital. I wrote them because I wanted to write, as others have mentioned previously, stupid bullshit anime hijinks. That may have been something of a mistake if it gave you guys a bad impression.

Still, thanks for the comments and criticism. They're valuable stuff to me and I'll be taking them into account.
>>
>>1153787
It's cool, honestly. Not lambasting you for it, and we get it's non-canon, but I think the thing is just that for a couple of the girls, it highlights and/or brings to mind some particular character grievances that have been present, and this gave opportunity to voice our dislike of said flaws.

I don't like Florence in general, though. That happened even before this
>>
>>1153787
Sucks we aren't far enough into the story for a P2129-like Valentine's Special. Seeing Florence have her charisma break due to Keiichi doing whatever and act like a shy schoolgirl is one of my goals for this quest, and I'm willing to do anything short of same-fagging to get it.

all girls are still good, tho

even airi, but she's not for keiichi

incest a shit
>>
>>1153787
Well frankly two of them are DARK AS FUCK. Namely Akasha's and Airi's. Which is kinda you know scary. Nina I can see as hijinks, but if you wanted cute you should have ended at her demanding her candy back, frankly the whole kick to the nuts thing was over the top. Also you had Florence come of like an imperious cunt in her interlude, some teasing or being coy would have made it less bitchy bitchy and more either tsun or her just doing it to make Keiichi tsun.
>>
>>1153814
>kick in the nuts over the top

I take it you haven't seen Love Hina.

That whole show will make you question just how far your Suspension of Disbelief will stretch.

[2nd of May (MONDAY)]

Your name is Airi Hirayama and you are roaming the hallways of the Shibuya Hospital. At present, you’re feeling a little light-headed. It’s as if someone has stuck a straw into your brain and drained out half its fluids. It’s to be expected, since you recently donated several pints to the blood bank today. Donating blood is something you do frequently, though you wouldn’t classify it as a habit. It’s more of a responsibility, introduced by Shesmur all the way in 2009, serving the purpose of expanding your blood capacity in order to increase the fuel for your magic art.

It also pays the bills. When you discovered that the hospital was willing to pay for your blood, you were shocked. You then dumped a pair of blood bags on the counter and went shopping for groceries.

Up ahead of you is a waiting room for visitors. It is deserted save for an idle receptionist and an eldery man with a cane. The interior is painted a sterile cream and is at air conditioner cold, opposed to the warm afternoon outside. A fraction of light shines through a small window to the side, blooming a small rectangle on the ground with a faint orange shine. You pick at a bag of peanuts in your hands and grin at the familiar, comfortable rustle the plastic makes. Peanuts are delicious. Them restoring your lost iron is merely the cherry on top.

As you walk, you notice a pair of nurses up ahead, strolling in the opposite direction to you. They’re dressed in the standard white with red crosses on their caps. One is pushing a squeaking trolley loaded with miscellaneous medical equipment—you recognize a box of syringes and a machine for weighing objects—and the other has a worn clipboard in both hands. They stride down the hallway in a leisurely, casual manner.

You ignore them at first. Then you get close enough to hear their conversation.

“What are the odds? Two coma patients and a boy with hypothermia in the same night…”

“It can’t be coincidence that two of the patients were magi, right?”

“It never is.”

Before you know it, your footsteps have slowed down and while you are facing in the opposite direction, your ears are craned towards the two nurses.

“They put me into overtime.” The first nurse grumbles, sounding young. “I can’t believe it. Even when I said I was going to be busy that night.”

“That’s them breaks, kid.” The second nurse says, the elder. “All you can do is suck it up.”

Eavedropping. A subject you are ambivalent on. You aren’t the first girl to turn an ear to the whispers lurking in the school hallways, and you won’t be the last. It’s useful for catching up to speed on the myriad of events occurring in your academy, but half the time they contain insults and are carried in mocking tones that are more distasteful than any swear word your brother can conjure.

“I won’t deny it has its perks, especially around the base…” Your ex-assault magus mother had sighed, when you brought up the topic after listening to Shesmur, “But a lot of time they don’t know the full truth. You’ll have to filter the truths from the lies, Airi. It what magi end up doing a lot. Politics and all…”

“They say there’s a whole court case linked to the three. Too bad two of them are vegetables.”

“Stab wounds on the first, bruises on the second and hypothermia and exhausation on the third. I wonder how it all went down.”

“I think the boy is a frequent patient.”

“He’s a troublemaker, no doubt about it. There’s a lot of those from the magi academies.”

Your brow creases and an annoyed grimace forms. A spark of magic travels down to the circuits in your hands; an instinctive reaction. It’s tempting to turn around and correct the nurses in the most indignant tone you can muster, but you’ve learned in middle school that course of action only brings more trouble than its worse.

While you admit that your brother has a tendency to get himself into a variety of sticky situations, you would never call him a troublemaker. He rarely engages of his own volition and he always has a good reason for involving himself, you find. Even if it doesn’t seem very obvious at first. You’re always tolerated them, even congratulated and thanked Keiichi for getting involved.

From the way they are conversing about the details of their patients, these nurses must not be high-ranking personnel, you think and frown.

“That girl is from Stonewolf High, right? Typical of them. Must be a rich girl.” The first nurse groises.

“They found the girl and the boy face down on the asphalt. Maybe they were fighting.” The second nurse wonders.

“Magi. They’re bloody insane, the lot of them.”

“Ah, you shouldn’t say that. Remember where you are.” The second nurse chides, echoing your thoughts.

“You’re right, sorry.” The first nurse says this, yet she doesn’t

“I tended to that girl, you know. She was mouthing stuff in her sleep. There was also a weird tattoo on the back of her neck, too.”

“Aah, it’s such a…no, I shouldn’t say that.”

Th voices of the two nurses fade down the hallway. You let out a gentle breath you didn’t know you were holding and stare up at the ceiling for a moment. It isn’t good to hold a grudge about people you don’t know, but you can’t help but feel a little offended by what the two nurses just said. Just a tad. It’s not something you’ll lose sleep over.

No matter where you go around here, all the lights in the hospitals are the same fluorescent kind. Bright, energy-saving, soulless to an extent. They’re present in the room your brother is staying in. You came here to visit him. Your sloppily dressed friend, Nina Takai, went ahead, but you had the blood donation appointment to attend.

You prepare to take a step forward when you feel something hard and firm come down on your right shoulder. You tense up, the crimson scarf around your neck flaring with mana. A low growling rumbles in your ears.

“Well, it’s good to see that one of you is still decent.” You hear the familiar gruff, friendly tones and slacken your shoulders. You turn around with a with a grin.

“Hello, Mr. Takai. How are you?”

Nina’s uncle, dressed in his consultant doctor’s white coat and holding a plastic cup of coffee in his left hand, looks down at you and smiles back. He runs a hand through a mop of black hair (messiness runs through the Takai family, it seems). “Busy as always, little Airi. You look a little pale. Came here for a blood drive?”

You nod. You’ve been to this hospital enough times for some of the staff to recognize you on sight. The man who operates the blood withdrawal process is pleasant to talk to. You’ve had many riveting conversations about the composition of blood with him.

“I’m also here to visit my brother.” You say.

“Little Keiichi, huh? How is he these days?” Mr. Takai asks.

“Well, he got into another fight and he’s stuck in bed, so the usual.” You reply and Mr. Takai smirks at it. Of all the staff at the hospital, Mr. Takai is one of the few who’s aware of the Hirayama siblings’ incident-causing nature, mostly because Nina tells him about it during their rare dinner conversations. “I think he’s a little cranky.”

“Lack of physical exercise, I suspect.” Mr. Takai states.

“Yeah, onii-chan likes to practice his shooting.” You say, fondly. “He gets antsy if he’s not allowed to.”

“Good, good. Children your age should be running around outside and getting fit, unlike a certain girl I know.” Mr. Takai nods approvingly. “So, spying on our nurses, little Airi?”

You blush and stammer. He was watching? Oh dear, this is rather embarrassing. “Uh, that’s…”

“Well, I can’t exactly blame you. Those two were talking rather loudly. I think I need to reprimand on gossiping about patients.” Mr. Takai says, his voice growing dark near the end.

“No, no, it’s okay. You don’t have to go that far.” You quickly say, raising their hands. “Besides, I was only listening because they were talking about something I was curious about.”

“Yui Modegi, I presume?”

“Yeah. I’ve never met her, but she did try to hurt my brother.”

“Hmmm…I can’t blame you, in that case.” Mr. Takai agrees. “If someone hurt Nina, I’d be stuck in a rage.”

“I still don’t quite understand why she did it.”

“Neither do we. From what we heard from her family, she’s not the type of girl to attack strangers on the street. They’re angry at your brother, by the way.”

“Even though he was only defending himself…” You sigh.

“I’m sure it’ll be cleared up once the girl wakes up. If her word doesn’t placate her, then the law will.” Mr. Takai grins. He takes a sip from his coffee. “Also, I should extend my congratulations for stabilizing Seiichi Ina. You saved us a lot of trouble, little Airi.”

“Oh…it was nothing much.” You say. All you did was transmit your own blood into the dying man, consuming your own blood packs as you did so.

“Where did you learn how to stabilize someone?” Mr. Takai asks.

“From my spirit partner. It’s part of the blood arts.” It’s not customary for magi to talk about the in-depth details of their talents, but you suspect Nina’s uncle already knows. If Nina didn’t tell him, the report from the paramedics did.

“Ah, so you’re a blood magus.” Mr. Takai speaks with the authority of a man who guessed the answer long before hand. “Interesting…have you ever considered a career in medicine?”

“Pardon?”

“A magus with the ability to absorb and transfer blood would be useful in the field of the medicine.” He explains. “You could clot blood for wounds, keep patients alive as you did before or even work in surgery. How about it?”

“That’s um…” It’s a sudden proposition and you’re caught off guard about it. Is this what they call a fantastic opportunity, as spoken about in the rooms of the career guidance counsellors? It does sound appealing. Extending your applications of the blood arts to healing could be a lucrative career choice, if a rather time-consuming and effort-demanding one. You’re not one to complain about hard work, so it might be possible for you to fit in.

Still, you can’t exactly make such a life-changing decision right now. You need more than a couple of seconds to think. Besides, there’s an odd feeling in your gut. If you had to put it into words, it’s like two north poles of a magnet repelling against each other. You can’t pinpoint where this feeling stems from. It’s a bit troubling.

Mr. Takai notices your indecision and laughs. “Ha, I don’t expect you to make your decision now. Think about it, okay?”

You nod. “I will.” You say, honestly.

“If you accept, I’ll introduce you to some good people.” Mr. Takai grins. “Oh, if you’ve got the time, drag my lazy niece to school.”

The image of the psychic girl lounging in her futon, dressed in nothing but a tank-top and shorts, controller perched in her slender fragile, pops into your head and you smile, humorlessly. “I can’t make any promises.”

The two of you share a chuckle.
>>
>>Meanwhile…

Said lazy niece is visiting the bedridden brother of Airi Hirayama, as mentioned earlier. She sneezes. It would’ve been cute, Keiichi Hirayama thinks, if it weren’t for the trail of snot running down the side of her nose.

“My uncle is talking about me again.” Nina Takai murmurs, levitating a nearby tissue to wipe off the gunk.

“Is that a psychic thing?” Keiichi asks absentmindedly, his head stuck in a firearms catalog. He’s wielded most of the weapons shown here. His mentor has trained him to use all kinds of firearms; one of her favourite exercise involves scattering firearms across a training field, de-equipping him and ordering him to destroy an incoming squad of familiars.

“Mmm, maybe.” Nina replies. She thumbs through her phone, then blinks. “Huh, they’re not talking about you.”

“Who?” Keiichi asks.

“The Stonewolf High kids.” Nina replies.

“Oh.” Briefly, Keiichi is reminded of the fights he’s had with them. Some were in True Hearts, others were conducted in an ‘invasion’ of the posh private academy. He remembers their arrogant smirks and the complete shock they showed as his Anti-Mana bullets pierced his shield. Then comes the fight with Florence Rutherford (fucking hail of icicles and that frost biting at his wounds) and he grumbles under his breath.

“Why would they be talking about me?” He presses further.

“You beat up one of their girls.” Nina answers. “And you talked about it with Florence Rutherford.”

“Was that a deduction or were you eavesdropping on us?”

“The former.” Nina replies, slouching in her chair. Her posture reminds Keiichi of a skinny, white-furred cat. “You spend a lot of time with her, so it’s a given.”

His grip on the edges of his bedsheets tightens. “It’s not because I want to.”

“Sure, sure…I guess all those chess games were coincidences.”

“Why do you care about this?” Keiichi says, grinding his teeth.

“I’m just wondering why she didn’t leak out the details of your fight.”

Keiichi folds his arms and scowls. “Florence isn’t the particularly gossipy type, you know. She’s the ‘ice queen’, remember? Hardly ever opens up to anybody.”

“Huh.” Nina says, putting her phone down. “That makes things convenient for you.”

“Don’t count on it. I bet she’ll probably come back and blackmail me over it or something. If not that, something equally ridiculous.”

“You sure know her well.” Nina observes. “Hey Keiichi, Keiichi, are you an exception from that opening up thing?”

“…we’re not continuing this conversation.”

“Have the two of you ever—”

“Nina, shut up.”

Missed the thread but I'll try to make the next one. Those pastes were pretty neat though. Michiko was most normal and cute. Nina was fun, totally understandable to get blind with rage during Mario kart. Florence was just as uppity as I would have expected of her, still best girl for Keiichi. Airi was, a thing. It was a fun thing that went off the deep end and then spiraled into a burning wreck, but it was a thing. Still enjoyed it since that kinda nonsense is fun. Akasha probably made me laugh the most and is likely my favorite of the bunch. No idea why people seemed so bothered by it, just some forcey fun times nothing too crazy.

I'm guessing it's that nobody expected actual dark content on Valentine's day of all days. Who really expected Airi to get the full monstrous yandere treatment?

>>
>>1157758
They really should have known better from reading the non-canon thing at the top of the last two. Even then, YanAiri was so off the rails it should have been obvious that it was basically just some insane version of her. Akasha was somewhat believable though so I can see if they had issues with that if they weren't into it.

Akasha-Alea's special was meant to be a humorous little thing but after going back and reading through it I can totally understand why people would be freaked out by it. Then there's the fact it has fuck all to do with Valentine's Day. Maybe I should've gone with my original idea and have Keiichi buy Akasha-Alea a chocolate gun.

Airi's special was pure grimderp. It's stupid, inplausible in canon, everyone is OOC as shit but it was fun to write. Besides, if there was anyone who could be canonicaly yandere...actually, it's hard to imagine any of girls as secretly yandere. Hmm...
