"So, what's the plan now?" Durendal asked as your small group made it out of the gates. The marine guards giving you a jealous look as they took your ID cards for authentication. And allowed you to exchange some of your dollars of yen, so that you could actually buy stuff off base. The roar of powerful jet engines from the takeoff of a pair of tomcats reminding you that the base was still capable of defending itself, even without your presence.

"Simple, we'll get a taxi into the commercial district. From there we'll just walk around until we find somewhere. It shouldn't take that long." You replied as your group waited at the taxi-stop just outside of the base. In spite of the hike in petrol prices -caused by the Soviet attacks on cargo ships in the pacific- some taxi services still continued to run. However, there were fewer of them around.

Thankfully however, this did cut down of city-traffic quite severely. With more people choosing to either walk in or share cars to spread out the cost of fuel.

"And if we encounter any... issues?" Svetlana asked worriedly from between you and Durendal, having chosen the position due to her lack of a pistol, which was practically mandatory kit for off-base excursions. The kidnap of a pair of air force pilots in Europe by a pro-soviet group had forced the DoD to bring in emergency orders that all soldiers were not to leave base without a backup weapon or some kind, and were not to go around on their own.

"Then we'll deal with them in appropriate manner." You replied calmly as your rolled your shoulders, feeling the comforting weight of your chest holster holding your pistol and spare magazines close to your chest. Your .45 was backed up by Durendal's Beretta 93R, which gave your group a bit more firepower if shit hit the fan. But at the same time, you were still lacking a third gun. Unfortunately, ONI had yet to allow Svetlana to carry a sidearm of her own. The intelligence organisation moving slower than you had expected with issuing her with the appropriate clearance.

"I hope that we won't need to use them." Durendal stated as a taxi and a bus made their way towards where you were standing.

>Flag down the taxi. It may be more expensive, but it's quicker and more direct to the commercial district.
>Get on the bus. While cheaper, it's slower and may not go directly to the commercial district.

Glancing over at the incoming taxi, you quickly raised your hand and flagged it down. Thankfully, the driver seemed to get the message and came to a stop in front of your group. The driver beckoning you to open the door.

You stepped forwards and opened the rear passenger door, holding it open for your friends as they piled in. Durendal taking the window seat and Svetlana taking the middle-seat. You quickly climbed in and took the remaining seat, your seat belt quickly locking in place.

"Where you want to go?" The older driver asked in broken English as you buckled up, the man glaring at you impatiently, obviously wary of the idle burning of fuel.

"Commercial district." You replied calmly as you closed the door. The driver nodded at you, before then turning away from you and driving on. He picked up a radio and began to talk into it in rapid Japanese.

"I'm fairly hungry, could we go somewhere for food?" Svetlana asked as the cab continued onto a main road, headed into the city.

"Go to Hanegawa's, good ramen." The taxi-driver recommended without even taking his eyes off the road.

"Do you have directions to Hanegawa's from the commercial district?" You asked as the taxi entered a spot of traffic, mostly made up of assorted busses.

"It's in the west of the district. You can't miss it." The driver replied calmly as the taxi continued on.

"So, Svetlana. How are you doing?" You asked as the taxi continued on. Durendal staring out of the window and admiring the cityscape.

"I... I am doing well." Svetlana replied carefully, her voice level and measured. It didn't take a genius to know that she was lying.

"Svetlana... don't you lie to me. You know that you can trust me." You lightly chastised her, your voice firm, but calming. Svetlana seemed to stare at you for a couple of seconds, before glancing away.

"S-Sorry. It's just that..." Svetlana paused for a second to calm herself slightly, before then continuing. "It's just that, after the submarine attack, I've been unable to stop thinking about my family. Particularly my brother."

"You think that the submarine from yesterday might have been his." You finished her sentence for her. Svetlana locked eyes with you -her expression darkening- but she still nodded.

"Da... his submarine was assigned to Vladivostok. And even if that wasn't his submarine, the ship's commissar would likely have him removed from the boat due to my defection." Svetlana replied gloomily as the taxi continued into the heart of the city, traffic continuing on at a steady pace.

"Wouldn't that be better? If he's not on a submarine then he would be in less danger." Durendal spoke up, tearing her eyes away form the high-rise buildings to look back at Svetlana.

"Nyet, if he were to be removed from the submarine then it would be a dishonourable discharge. He would sent to a gulag." Svetlana shook her head as she looked over at Durendal. Svetlana's shoulders dropping as the unspoken implications of what would happen to her brother became clear.

>Put a reassuring hand on her shoulder, you didn't mean to upset her.

As Svetlana's shoulders began to drop, you looked past her to Durendal, waiting on the telltale signs of your friend making ready do do something. If there was something you learned about Durendal during training -aside from her apparent kinks, courtesy of her RIO- was that Durendal took the feelings of her comrades very seriously. And you didn't have to wait long before Durendal sprung into action.

She slowly leaned over to Svetlana and wrapped the smaller woman in her arms, muttering to her in hushed tones. Svetlana tensed up at the sudden physical contact, before then relaxing and returning the hug. You simply turned away and began to look out the window, taking in the city view as Durendal calmed Svetlana down.

Around half an hour later, the high rise towers gave way to densely packed, but no less well built shops and stores. Smaller, 10 storey high buildings replaced the skyscrapers that took up the more central areas of the city. The driver pulled off the road that you were on and onto a secondary road, he then pulled up at the curb and stopped.

"Here we are." The driver announced, before turning to you. "One hundred dorrah."

You quickly reached into your pocket and retrieved the cash, before palming it to him and gesturing for your squadmates to follow you out. You calmly opened the door and climbed out first, making sure to hold the door for your friends as they followed you out. Svetlana apparently deciding to stay close to you as she joined you on the packed sidewalk. Thankfully, it was still around 10 in the morning, so many people were still in work and not moving around on the streets. In spite of this, Svetlana could not look more out of her depths. Durendal brought up the rear of the group, and took up a position on the opposite side of Svetlana as the taxi took off, headed back to the main road.

Thankfully, the driver had dropped you off half a block away from a crossroads of sorts. The four way intersection having been given over completely to pedestrians and blocked off by bollards. The intersection gave you some different choices as to where to begin the search.

The route to the left lead to a more traditional Japanese market square, with each building taking on a more native look. Many of the shops were self-contained buildings in and of themselves, a costly expenditure in such a built up area. If you had to guess, you could find more traditional Japanese formal wear along this path.

The path to the right of you lead to a more western shopping plaza. While many of the buildings were all connected -in a manner befitting terraced housing more- they were still built rather well, with large windows showing the wears offered by each shop. Even from here, you could tell that there was a cake shop of some kind, mostly from the fact that one of the end buildings on the lot had a massive cake in the window. But then again, you weren't here for cakes, you were here for a dress for your Soviet squadmate.

>CONT

>>1172113

The path directly in front of you seemed to be a mix of both the left and right paths. A mix of old and new, east and west. And at the far end was a large, multi-storey building, with the word MALL being advertised on a large coloured screen, in between advertisements for different Japanese and western products in both English and Japanese. You could have sworn that you saw an advertisement for Burger King coming to a close as you focused your attention on the building.

>Investigate the traditional left, maybe Svetlana would want one of those formal bathrobe-like things that the Japs always seemed to wear.
>Check out the western right, you're pretty sure that it would be easier for Durendal if you focused on something that she actually has some ideas with.

Now, while part of you considered that maybe a more Japanese style dress would be appropriate, you had absolutely no idea if Durendal would know anything on the subject. After all, if she did learn about dresses and fashion, then chances are that it would be something more western. so why not head to the area that looked the most like a boulevard that you'd expect to find in some west European city. Like Paris, or London.

As such, you lead your group down the path to the right. Thankfully, at this time there were few people around. A combination of both the war and the time of day rendering the area almost barren. However, you did spy a woman in one of those traditional Japanese bathrobe-things and flanked by a couple of larger guys in black suits. Some kind of broach on all of them, worn either as a belt buckle or as some kind of decorative piece on the bathrobe-thing.

Regardless, you quickly lead your group down the boulevard of western shops, many of them modelled after the kind of fancy boutique that you'd expect millionaires to peruse for the thousand dollar accessories that they buy just so that they can show off how much money they have. However, many of the shops didn't sell accessories, many seemed to sell western clothes in general. Or other things from America and Western Europe, mundane things. Hell, you even spied a couple of weapons shops, selling all manner of guns and blades to those with the proper permits.

Thankfully, it didn't take you too long to find what you were looking for. One of the advantages of the area's layout was that it was easier to window-shop. The shop that you ended up entering had piqued your attention due to the quartet of mannequins in the windows, each one wearing some kind of dress. As you entered, a small bell affixed to the door frame chimed at your arrival.

"Oh? Hello, how can I help you today?" The woman behind the counter asked in a British accent.

"Hey, I'm here to get a dress made for my friend here." You said as you reached behind you and brought Svetlana to the front, thankfully, she didn't squirm at all, instead being far too astonished at the assorted wares.

"Well you've come to the right place then! Reisa, get the measuring tape." The woman called into the back of the shop, causing another voice to call back in hurried Japanese.

"If you want to go off to do something else then feel free. This might take a while." Durendal suggested as Svetlana began to take a curious look at a few of the dresses on display.

>Stick around and pay attention, maybe give some input?
>Stick around and read a newspaper, they actually have some newspapers printed in English!
>Check out the sword shop. While you have both your officer's sword and that Tanto, you could see if they have anything to pique your interest.
>Check out the gun shop. Because you can never have enough guns. Anybody who says otherwise is a commie.

As the shop's staff began to buzz around Svetlana, taking assorted measurements and chatting about random things. You made your way over to the small mass of chairs in one of the corners. A small stand of assorted magazines and newspapers in both English and Japanese sitting next to a water cooler. You quickly grabbed up the paper and began to flick through it.

Thankfully, the paper seemed to have been printed and delivered recently. But the information was out of date, as it's head story was the Soviet submarine attacks on NATO shipping in the Atlantic. Apparently a number of amphibious assault ships had been quickly pressed into use as ASW helicopter carriers for supply convoy defence. The brits had done something similar, but had instead taken RO-RO container ships and had fitted them with temporary flight decks and hangers to carry both helicopters and cargo.

In Europe, the Army had lost contact with the last units in Berlin. High-altitude recon by SR-71s had confirmed that the Soviets had overrun the defenders and had fully taken the city. They were also managing to push deeper into west Germany and Austria. Grece had fought Yugoslavia to a standstill, but strategic recon was foretelling of a Soviet push to break the deadlock in Yugoslavia's favour. Surprisingly, Finland was managing to fight the Soviets to a standstill in the north. But with the Soviet power in the area, they weren't set to hold it for long.

There was also a bit of dispute as to the role of the US Navy in Europe too. Apparently due to the threat of long range bombers, Atlantic command had pulled all of it's tomcats back to either their carriers or based in Greenland. The lack of long range anti-bomber missiles had apparently hurt the airforce badly enough that they were having the Phoenix integrated onto modified F-15Ds as a tomcat stand in. However, the navy had shown it's worth by practically wiping out the Soviet Baltic fleet at the start of the war. Many of the older ships in the fleet proving to be no match for modern harpoon missiles, even if their armour plates did give them some pretty decent protection against anti-ship missiles. The Middle East apparently doing fine. But given the date of the paper, you knew that it certainly wasn't fine right now.

"So, what's the news?" Durendal asked as she sat down in one of the seats next to you.

"Same as before, everything's fucked. How's the dress thing coming along?" You replied, before returning with your own question.

"It's going pretty well. She's picked out a some of dresses that she likes, though she can't decide between the three of them. So she's decided to try them both on to get an opinion form the both of us." Durendal explained as you looked up at Svetlana as she entered one of the changing booths, carrying a black dress of some kind.

"Will she be choosing them in any particular order?" You asked as you glanced out the window, noticing the trio from the eastern style street making their way over.

"Well, kind of. She wants you to pick a number between one and three and we'll go form there." Durendal replied happily, the playful smile telling you that she knew something that you didn't.

"I guess I'll take the second option." You suggested cautiously, causing Durendal's smile to grow wider.

"Très bien, I will pass along your suggestion!" Durendal stated calmly, before then standing up and making her way back towards the group.

Thankfully, this gave you time to read more into the newspaper. But aside from the news on Europe and the Soviet submarines, there wasn't much else that you didn't already know. There was a bit more on the situation in the pacific and the middle east. There was also a little on the goings on at home, mostly relating to the air national guard having many of it's better aircraft sent off to the airforce to make up for combat losses. Meanwhile, the AMARC boneyard was being drained at a substantial rate. Both of these measures being used as a temporary fix until new airframes could roll off the production lines. There was also a small stub on the ATF and NATF programs, but those were limited only to the mention that both projects were being accelerated.

"Voilà!" Durendal proclaimed from across the room as Svetlana exited one of the changing stalls.

Svetlana stepped out of the stall in a red, open-back dress. The black of Svetlana's bra just barely peeking up past the dress. The dress itself didn't seem to fit properly, and needed some minor adjustments. But aside from that, it did seem to suit her well. At least by your very basic grasp of fashion.

"W-Well... how does it look?" Svetlana asked, her face flushed red at having to play dress-up.

"So, what can you tell me about this dress?" You asked one of the women who worked in the shop as you gestured to the dress that Svetlana was wearing.

"Well, it was one of the few dresses that fit her the closest. It's an admittedly rather plain dress, but it does suit her surprisingly well. Wouldn't you agree Reisa?" The woman replied, her question causing one of the more stout woman to nod.

"I see, and what about the other dresses?" You asked as Svetlana walked back into the stall, apparently to change into another dress.

"Well, the dresses are all rather similar, they are ankle-length and come with their own differences. They are a bit costly, but according to your friends, you aren't the ones paying so you don't really need to worry." The woman explained as she gestured over to three empty dress-bags, the four digit price tag forcing you to go for a double take. As you tried to focus on the price tags, the chime of the door opening telling you that somebody was entering.

"Good day Miss Elliot." A Japanese voice called from the front, her English tainted slightly by some kind of high-class English accent. Whoever taught her must have been from some high-class Englishman. "How is the business going on?"

You turned around and found yourself gazing at the woman from before, still flanked by one of her suited guards. Now closer, you could tell that her guard was armed, the small bulge in his suit telling you that he was carrying a pistol under his suit. The woman seemed to be unarmed.

"Ah, hello Mo-yey. The business is going rather well all things considered. I was just helping this group of customers with their purchases." The woman, Miss Elliot, gestured to you and Durendal. And then to the changing stall occupied by Svetlana.

"Very good, I'm glad that those under my protection are still experiencing business. Even if they cater to those that should be doing their jobs as opposed to buying fancy dresses." Mo-yey stated, her voice taking on a disdainful tone as she glared at you, apparently having recognised you.

You and the traditionally clad woman glared at each other for a couple of seconds, before she then turned to leave. The door chiming as the woman and her guard linking back up with the man she left outside.

"I'm very sorry about that. Miss Mo-yey is very... nationalistic." Miss Elliot apologised.

"Ah, don't worry about it." You waved off the apology, before turning back to the changing stall. Just in time to see Svetlana walk out wearing a black, shoulder-less dress. The dress itself seemed to be layered, with the black under-dress and a semi-transparent over-layer. All cut to the same sizes. You did have to correct yourself not to stare at Svetlana's chest, as apparently the chest area was too small to adequately hide her breasts. Svetlana was still blushing as she looked up at you, her arms crossed across her chest to ensure her modesty in the event of the dress failing.

"A-And t-this one?" Svetlana asked as she peered up at you, the expression in her eyes telling you that she didn't entirely trust the dress's fit. Her stutter getting worse.

"It looks a bit too small. But I'm pretty sure that Miss Elliot can make come changes quick enough?" You replied, before turning back towards Miss Elliot, who nodded with a smile.

"Of course, adding a bit of material here, and a little bit there. I'm sure that we can get the changes made easily enough." Miss Elliot replied happily as she gestured to Svetlana's hips and her chest. The latter causing Svetlana to hug herself tighter to prevent Miss Elliot from disturbing the tight fit.

"How long will that take?" You asked curiously as Svetlana shifted on her feet, apparently uncomfortable at having to wear the tight dress.

"It should only take a few hours, I may also suggest adding a corset of some kind, maybe some kind of hair broach..." Miss Elliot suggested as she lightly pressed against Svetlana's belly, as if to gesture to where the corset would go. This caused Svetlana to tense up, and to cause her blush to deepen.

"Well, I believe that this would be a good fit. Though it's up to you if you want to see the other dress?" Durendal suggested, garnering a nod from Svetlana. Then again, you didn't know if Svetlana really liked the dress, or if she just wanted an out.

"We might as well see Svetlana in the final dress, just to see what it looks like on her." You replied calmly, and ignoring Svetlana's angry glare before the dour Soviet romped into the changing room. Grumbling in Russian the whole way.

"You know... I don't think that Svetlana liked that..." Durendal stated, the smile in her voice telling you that she was entertained by her comrade's suffering.

"Would you like having to constantly change out of fancy clothes that barely fit?" Svetlana called out from inside the changing room.

"Of course! I did that back when I was a teenager." Durendal replied as she leaned against the wall, a nostalgic smile on her face.

"Really? Well you did strike me as the kind of person who liked to dress in skimpy clothes and offer herself to anyone nearby." Svetlana stated, her voice taking on a sarcastic edge, before then adding. "Regardless of their gender."

"..." Durendal somehow managed to speak an ellipsis. A mix of splutters and half-words as she tried and failed to say an eligible sentence, which was becoming harder for her to accomplish as she began to go an interesting shade of red.

As you began to laugh, Durendal turned and glared at you, but this only caused you to laugh harder at her attempt to look menacing while she looked so flustered.

Eventually, after another few minutes, Svetlana walked out of the dressing room, now wearing a blue layered dress. Unlike the previous dresses, which seemed to hug her body, highlighting her curves. This dress instead emphasised them, with the layered sections of the dress seeming to blossom out slightly. With each section of the dress being bordered by white ruffles. Just like the previous black dress, the dress didn't seem to adequately cover her chest. So Svetlana continued to keep her chest covered by her blue-gloved arms. Additionally, she wore a blue corset loosely around her waist.

"There. Are you happy now?" Svetlana asked glumly, the denial of her early escape obviously grating on her nerves slightly.

"Durendal sure knows what she's doing, these dresses look great on you." You replied calmly, as small smirk spreading across your lips. Svetlana looked up and frowned at you, embarrassed by having to play the costumed fool for the past hour or so.

"Do you have any preferences?" You asked after a couple of seconds of awkward silence as one of the women who helped Svetlana pick out the dresses moved to help her tighten the corset.

"Da. I prefer both this dress and the black one. The black one is lighter and easier to move around in. But this one is more comfortable and is easier to hide weapons in." Svetlana explained, before sharply inhaling as the woman tightened the corset around the Russian's waist.

"I think that the black dress suits her more. It's darker tones contrast well with her pale skin and white hair..." Miss Elliot suggested, her voice trailing off as she considered something.

"I prefer the one she's wearing right now. It certainly shows off her cute side much better than the black dress. Plus I'm pretty sure there's something about black being the colour of mourning in Japanese fashion or something..." Durendal stated as she walked forwards, coming to a stop next to Svetlana, who glared dirks and daggers at your French squadmate.

"Besides, it certainly emphasises some of her... assets." Durendal purred as she winked at you, her french accent putting a lewd tone on the final word.

"HEY! YOU-" Svetlana houled as she tried to lunge at Durendal. Only to be held in place by the stout woman behind her, who was apparently adept at stopping people from moving while she worked on them.

"I'M KIDDING! I'm kidding!" Durendal quickly replied as she backed up, chuckling all the way. "Either way, I think it's a good fit for her. It defiantly has a certain style to it."

"Yes, it has the style of a princess, or some other kind of damsel in distress. So if you want her going around like some kind of fragile flower then go right ahead." Miss Elliot spoke up sternly, apparently none too happy at Durendal's constant teasing of her customer. "Personally, I would go with the black dress. It's far better suited for formal occasions, without cutting back on the quality of the dress itself. Though I would recommend a set of elbow-gloves, a corset and some of our lingerie to help complete the outfit."

"Oh, so now we're looking at lingerie? This is my favourite part!" Durendal said happily, casting a side-long wink at you.

"Only if you try some on with me. I'm not dancing around skimpily on my own." Svetlana insisted with a smug grin, hoping that the request would force Durendal to back down.

"Of course! I'd love to!" Durendal replied almost too enthusiastically, causing Svetlana's grin to drop into a frown. Miss Elliot turned to you, her pleading gaze begging for you to reign in the enthusiastic French woman as she began to drag the shocked Soviet towards the rack of assorted lingerie.

"Miss Elliot, if you have my friend's measurements then you can simply pick a suitable set out without her needing to try them on. Right?" You asked a bit too loudly, making sure that it was loud enough for Durendal to hear you.

"Of course! I have a good enough idea about what could work with both of the dresses too!" Miss Elliot answered hastily, before buzzing off past Durendal and Svetlana. The former looking rather put out while the latter looked glad at being bailed out.

"Well, aren't you Mr Fun." Durendal huffed, annoyed at how you had derailed her train. "I would have thought that you would jump at the chance to see a pair of beautiful women in their underwear."

"We're wasting time. Have you come to a decision yet Svetlana?" You asked as you made your way over to the pair. Svetlana seemed to pause for a couple of seconds as she tried to pull the fabric of her dress further up her chest.

"N-No... not yet. I was waiting to see which one you preferred." Svetlana admitted as she gave up on trying to extract more of the dress from beneath the corset. Instead choosing to cover her modesty with her gloved arms.

"Oh no, this isn't my decision. Besides, I don't know the damnedest about fashion." You quickly tried to deflect the question. Ignoring Durendal's stifled laugh.

"I know that it's my decision, and that's why I'm asking for your opinion. It's not a hard question. Just tell me which one you like out of them." Svetlana insisted as she lightly cuffed Durendal on the shoulder.

>"I prefer the red dress, it seemed the most no-nonsense dress out of the bunch."

"I prefer the blue dress. It looks pretty cute on you. And comfort is always something that should be desired in formal wear." You recommended with a shrug, getting you a smug grin from Durendal. Svetlana seemed to stop and consider this for a few seconds, before nodding.

"If you say so... this is something far more decadent than what I'm normally used to dealing with." Svetlana finally admitted with a careful shrug, making sure not to move herself too much.

"See, I knew you would come around eventually." Durendal purred smugly as Miss Elliot made her way over.

"Ah, so it would seem that you have already made you choice. That makes my job easier." She smiled as she walked over to your group, a pair of large boxes in her hands. She stopped only to hand one of the boxes over to one of her aids, who took it back the way Miss Elliot had came with a small mumbling of Japanese.

"Well, I have in this box the other parts of the dress. Lingerie, shoes and accessories. I'll need to go through them with you, I might need you to try them on. But we can do this after you have taken the dress off so that we can make some adjustments. Don't worry, you won't have to show off, we just need you to check the fits." Miss Elliot explained as she gestured for Svetlana to walk back to the changing stalls, causing Svetlana to smile as she turned back towards the changing room.

"How long will that take?" You asked as Svetlana stopped in front of the changing room to allow the stout woman from before to undo her corset.

"It will take a few hours at the quickest. Your friends mentioned that you needed it done quickly, so I'll have my girls work on it as quickly as they can. Without sacrificing quality of course." Miss Elliot replied as Svetlana entered into the changing room, the corset being taken deeper into the shop for adjustment.

"Could we leave and come back in a few hours for the dress?" Durendal asked, her question ending with a rumbling growl from her stomach. "I'm pretty hungry. And I imagine that Svetlana is too."

"Possibly, though it would require us to rush the fitting for the other parts of the dress." Miss Elliot replied with a frown, before leaning back and crossing her arms. "I insist that she stays at the very least, so that we can finish this properly."

"If you want to get some food, then you can go and get something. I'm pretty sure that there's a fast food joint somewhere nearby." You shrugged with your reply, you knew that you couldn't leave Svetlana alone. Not with the risk that someone might try to off her, and not with her lacking a pistol.

"Are you sure? I can bring something back for you if you want." Durendal offered, if only out of courtesy.

"Yeah, if you can grab me a burger or something if you come across a Burger King or Mc Donalds. The mall ought to have a fast food shop of some kind. Keep your guard up, remember what happened in Ramstein." You accepted her offer, before reminding her to be weary. A lone pilot was a vulnerable pilot, regardless of what they were packing.

"Don't worry Razor, nobody will get the drop on me!" Durendal assured you, before turning smartly on her heel and making for the door, putting a bit too much of a sway to her hips as she left.

"She's a bit of an eccentric one, wouldn't you agree?" Miss Elliot asked as she offered you a cup of water. You graciously took the cup and held it for when you were actually thirsty.

"Just a bit, but she's a good person. You just need to know how to push her buttons." You replied as Miss Elliot took a quick swig from her water.

"Ah, so she's one of those people." Elliot sighed, the inflection of her voice telling you that her impression of Durendal had just dropped.

"Don't hold it against her, she's just playing around." You explained as the privacy curtains to Svetlana's changing room moved behind you. A couple of seconds later they moved back in place as someone walked away. Mot likely carrying Svetlana's dress off to be adjusted. Your parched throat politely asking for some water.

>Have a drink of water, it's just water.

At this, you took a cautious sip of the water. The timing between you being offered the drink, and Durendal's departure setting you partially on edge. This was the perfect time to kidnap both you and Svetlana, to take the pair of you off to parts unknown for some nefarious reason. Then again, if the water was laced then you were pretty sure that you could pull your pistol and fire a shot or two to alert people nearby. Local police, or Durendal, whichever one was closer. Regardless, you would only know if there was something in the water if you took a sip.

And sure enough, there WAS something in the water.

The taste of the water was the first thing to alert you to the hidden chemical. The earthy taste of the water, and the slight chemical scent confirming your suspicions, at least in part. You recognised these particular hallmarks, and what they were used for.

This water had been treated with chlorine, the slightly chemical taste to the water confirming it's treatment. Your home town back in Iowa treated all of the water supply with chlorine as a matter of course. Inevitably, this had garnered the ire of some individuals which thought that the chemical treatment was either bad for the environment, or bad for the people drinking the treated water. Then again, these were also the people with overly-long, dirty fingernails and dirt behind the backs of their ears.

Regardless, the water was perfectly safe to drink, and you finished off the cup in one final pull.

"My, aren't you a bit thirsty." Miss Elliot asked as she took the empty cup and made her way over to the water cooler and began to fill it up.

"Honestly? I haven't had a drink since I left the base." You replied calmly as you waited for the cup to be refilled.

"So you really are a pilot. I assume that your friends are too?" Miss Elliot asked as she handed the cup back to you.

"Ayep, that they are." You replied simply as you glanced back at the changing room. You couldn't see much past the privacy curtain, but just beneath it you did see Svetlana's feet, now clad in white stockings and light blue high-heels. The colour of the shoes matching that of the dress.

"I see... so that's why Mo-yey was annoyed with you. I'd watch yourself if I were you, she has some strings in the IJN that she can pull on to harass you. She was invited to the upcoming ball at the imperial palace after all." Elliot warned you, her voice low and flat.

>"How funny, we were buying this dress for a formal event of similar calibre."
>"Well, that will certainly be interesting."
>"What do you know about this ball? People keep making it out as a big deal."

"How funny, we were buying this dress for a formal event of similar calibre." You replied nonchalantly, taking a sip of water as you looked out of the window. The pedestrian traffic in the area had certainly picked up since you had entered, but a quick check of your wrist-watch gave you a decent enough explanation as to why.

Miss Elliot turned and smile as she began to understand the implications. There was only one event with that calibre comming up in the next few months, and Miss Mo-yey was attending. "I see, I wish I was there to see it now. She won't take it well."

"Well, that will certainly be interesting." You returned as a malicious smile spread across your cheeks.

"Then again, that does bring up the question about what you did to earn you an invitation to the ball. It's often a highly restricted event. They don't just let any schmuck off the street into the imperial palace." Miss Elliot asked as one of the dressmakers returned from the back of the shop, carrying the dress. Sections of blue fabric pinned in assorted places to allow the dress's changes to be tested before they were sewn in place. The dressmaker passed the dress through the privacy curtains before walking off, allowing Svetlana to test the adjustments before they were made permanent.

"Well, for starters... I'm one of -if not then THE- highest scoring aces in the entire theatre. My squadron is mostly made up of ace pilots, with only one or two of them with less than five kills. My squadron has been assigned to joint operations with Princess Sakamoto's flight, and we've covered them multiple times through combat missions. We've also facilitated the defection of a Soviet pilot, who was forced to fly an aircraft that had been rigged to explode at the touch of a button." You explained calmly, as if your actions were nothing out of the ordinary. But still, Miss Elliot looked at you with wide-eyed shock.

Now that you think about it, your squadron isn't really that ordinary...

"Wait, so... is Miss Svetlana..." Elliot looked between you, and the changing room. The soft rustling of cloth and silk on skin confirming that Svetlana was changing into the dress.

"Yes, she's the defector. Don't worry, she's completely harmless. To us at least." You explained, calming Miss Elliot down as she stared at the changing room.

"I... I never knew... well I had my suspicions, but I didn't know for sure." She shook her head as she stared past the privacy curtain. "Did she... did she shoot-"

"No. She hasn't shot down any American, Japanese or allied aircraft." You immediately cut off Miss Elliot as her mind began to wander. "She's only ever engaged Soviet aircraft when flying with us. Though she did claim a pair of aircraft kills from before the war, though we aren't sure what those kills were."

At this, the privacy curtain was opened, and Svetlana walked out. Now dressed in the resplendent blue dress, the light clopping sound of heels kitting the the hardwood floor calling attention to her every step. A meek smile on her rosy cheeks.

"Da. I achieved my first two kills during the Afghan war before my unit was cycled out." Svetlana confirmed, before then turning around, showing the loosely tied ribbons of the corset. "If you wouldn't mind, I need someone to tie me up~"

"You know, I had expected Durendal to be the first person to ask me to tie her up..." As you made your way over towards Svetlana, intent on doing it yourself, you might as well know for the night of the ball.

"Oh, alright then. I'll talk you both through it." Miss Elliot announced, before turning to Svetlana. "Now, put your arms up against the wall. Legs together please."

Svetlana seemed taken aback at this, before complying and putting her arms against the wall as you walked up behind her... behind.

"I have to say comrade, isn't it a bit iffy to tell people about our accomplishments? And that I'm in service with your unit?" Svetlana asked as you picked up the the ends of the trailing silk ribbons. The ends of the ribbons flaring out as if to be tied into a decorative bow.

"Now, all you need to do for now is tighten the ribbons until the two parts meet. This particular one is simply a decorative corset, so it shouldn't be too hard to do." Miss Elliot instructed, but as you began, she added. "But isn't Miss Svetlana right? Isn't it a bit risky?"

You shrugged as you began to undo the white ribbon until it was only barely holding the corset on by the last two holes as you started again. "According to Zeus, every damn newspaper in Iowa has identified me as the pilot who saved Svetlana, and from there it wouldn't take much to do some basic recon to find where I'm based out of. Additionally, there is only one black jet with an orange tail and horse insignia -which wasn't scrubbed from the picture by the way. Besides, I imagine that there will be press at the entrance to the ball anyways, so the reds will find out either way."

"I guess you're right... and it does explain why you always carry your gun with you." Svetlana agreed as you continued to tighten the corset. The entire thing coming together quite easily.

"Wait, so you have a gun on you? Aren't those meant to stay on base?" Miss Elliot asked as she frowned at you, seemingly beginning to understand why you were wearing your jacket.

"New standing orders. After a pair of pilots were kidnapped by pro-soviet insurgents, all US soldiers are ordered to carry their pistols when going off base. Of course, my squadron has had that order ever since we were stood up. And even before the squadron was stood up I would carry my gun around with me everywhere." You explained as you began to thread through the final few holes in the corset.

"Really? Why would you carry it with you ?" Svetlana asked, concern lacing her voice as she asked.

>"One word: Lauren."
>"Personal reasons."

"Personal reasons." You replied simply, electing to say as little as you could. You didn't want to let on more than you wanted them to know.

The group was silent for a bit longer as you finished tightening the corset, but as you made to tie off the remaining ribbon, Miss Elliot spoke up. "Oh, if you can just hand those to me and I'll show you how to properly tie off the ribbons into a beautiful bow."

You quickly handed the ribbons off to her and stood off to the side as she instructed you on how to tie the ribbons, tying it off herself as a demonstration, before untying it and gesturing for you to try it yourself.

As you knelt down to tie the bow, the door behind you opened with a ring.

"I'm back! I-" Durendal began, only to stop as she saw what she had just walked in on. You didn't even need to look over your shoulders to know she was wearing a shit-eating grin.

"Well, well, well... our knight in shining armour has the princess pressed up against the wall. Isn't this meant to only happen after the ball?" Durendal stated smugly as you finished tying off the ribbon into an elegant bow.

Svetlana seemed to rustle under your grasp as you untied the bow, and began retying it. Instead, you simply said. "You're only jealous because you're not the one in the dress with me tying you off. But then again, if that was the case then there would be more ropes involved~"

You finished off tying the bow for a second time as Durendal began to splutter in horror at the uncouth assumption. "There, it's all done. How does it feel?"

"It feels much more comfortable than before, at least I don't have to worry about my modesty." Svetlana replied happily as you backed off, giving Svetlana enough room to give you all a little twirl.

"Lovely! If you wouldn't mind changing out of the dress then I'll have my girls finish up the changed within the hour." Miss Elliot replied as she gave a little clap at Svetlana's twirl.

"Of course! Razor, could you please help me." Svetlana asked, before then hastily continuing as Durendal snickered. "Help with the corset, I can handle the rest perfectly well!"

You shrugged at this and gestured at the wall. Svetlana assumed the position for the few seconds as you undid the bow and the extracted the ribbon from the corset. You caught the corset just before it fell and handed it to Svetlana as she made her way into the changing room.

With the adjustments to Svetlana's dress being finalised, you decided that now would be the best time to get some actual food. After all, the food on base wasn't as good as the food that you could get out here. Sure, you had to wait for a bit of time while Svetlana changed back into her original clothes, but after a quarter of an hour, you and your small gaggle of followers left the dress shop with the ring of a bell.

"So, Durendal. Did you actually manage to get some grub while you were out?" You asked as your group stopped outside of the shop, planning your next moves.

"Non, there were too many people, the lines were too long. Bud, I did manage to find out a couple of nice places..." Durendal confessed, before smiling and pointing down the street.

"Down there is a very nice pizza restaurant, they were handing out free samples while I was out." She explained, gesturing at a shop a few hundred meters away. Assorted tables and chairs set outside so that patrons could eat in the sunshine.

"There is also a number of fast food shops in the mall -mostly Japanese brands- but I did spot a few western chains. Burger King and KFC to name a couple." She added as she gestured back in the direction of the shopping complex.

"What about that ramen shop, Hanegawa's." You asked as you stroked you chin. While you weren't one for most Japanese foods, ramen was something you could stomach.

"Oh, sure. If you want to into that uppity bitch's home turf. It's just down there." Durendal gestured down to the eastern branch of the commercial district, as identified by it's mass of traditional Japanese buildings. And the odd guys in suits and shades.

>Head to the pizza shop. It may not be the kind of foreign food you were expecting to eat in Japan, but it's better than the other options.

It didn't take you too much time to make your decision. The pizza shop was way out as it simply didn't interest you, most people don't come to Japan for it's Italian food. Plus the prices were probably horribly inflated, if you factored in that it was probably one out of less than 10 pizza restaurants on this side of Japan. It did seem like the kind of posh and snobby place where the waiters would glare at you down their noses if you didn't act like a rich tart.

Hanegawa's did interest you a bit. After all, ramen was one of the few Japanese foods that you could readily get back at home, and you loved it. But at the same time, getting turned into a pin cushion by a dozen swords was pretty high up on your list of shit that you didn't want to happen to you. You also reckoned that things wouldn't go well for Durendal and Svetlana if that happened. You did know that a number of yakuza clans still pledged their loyalties to the Imperial Japanese Army. And that set off some deep-rooted aggression in your blood. Your family was very particular about it's hate towards the IJA and all those who supported it, and for good reason.

As such, you decided that it was better to instead go on a mall-crawl in search of the elusive Taco Bell. You fucking loved Taco Bell. And if there wasn't Taco Bell then you would be severely disappointed. As such, you decided as a group and began to make your way off.

Well, it wasn't that much of a group decision. If anything, you made the decision yourself and started walking, your squadmates having to speed up for a couple of seconds in order to catch up with you before falling into lockstep.

Thankfully, the great thing about such wide-open areas with so few people in it was that it was relatively easy to spot trouble, case-and-point being when you spotted the gaggle of reporters before they even had the chance to spot you.

Then again, they weren't too hard to spot in the firs place. The obvious smart-casual dress code immidiatly pegged them as being cut from the same cloth, and the occasional trilby hat only furthered your point. Not to mention the numerous assorted cameras to either record interviews, or to take photographs. And if those alone weren't enough to key you in, then the occasional blue flack vest with PRESS printed in the front and back of each vest along with an advertisement for their channel was more than enough to get the point across.

Thankfully like every lazy, grazing animal. These reporters and their support crews were busy having a late lunch at one of the many Western-Japanese hybrid cafes that dotted Tokyo. They hadn't spotted you yet, but this would cause problems later. You fucking knew it.

You quickly capitalised on this by leading you group past the assorted reporters while they discussed how exciting this war reporting was. It didn't take long to reach the mouth of the mall, a small fountain at the front full of koi-fish.

The feeling of a dozen plus eyes boring into the back of your head. The latent hunger of a dozen plus reporters seeing the scoop of the week. No, of the month. Your ears perking up as the background chatter died out like when insects would go quiet when a predator was about to pounce on it's prey. The itch on the back of you neck burning and your gut doing a flip as it screamed at you to loose them or get ready for a world of suck.

Unsurprisingly, it felt exactly like when you were about to get bounced during training and peace-time fleet ops. Your gut always had the best sense for when something was about to happen. And your snap-decision making skills almost always got you out of trouble.

Almost, you'll never live down that time in the O-club. But that's a story for another time.

Thankfully however, you are not only the highest scoring ace in the entire theatre. You're also a born and bread naval aviator of the US of A! Your ancestors didn't seize up when they went into battle against the British tyrants, no! They fucking stabbed the bastards and sent them packing, sans their fucking tea.

As such, when you felt the glare, you kept on walking at the calm and carefree pace from before. And you made it inside, stopping only to give a the homeless guy by the door some change before going inside. From there, you turned right towards the elevators and got inside a conveniently available elevator cab. The occupants leaving just as you and your comrades entered. You punched the button for the 3rd level of the mall and waited calmly as the doors closed painfully slowly as rapif foot-falls began to close in from the way you can came.

There was no denying it... the mortal enemy of the modern warrior -the press- had your scent.

And I'm going to call it here for this week's run folks! Sorry that we went a bit over and that we'll have to continue this next week, that is my fault. This update would have come sooner, but I wrote a good 4000+ characters before realising that I had gone off on a massive tangent. I had to re-write it from around 100 words after removing the flack, before then writhing another 5000+ characters more.

Anyways, if you have any questions then feel free to ask them and I'll answer them to the best of my abilities.

I'm pretty excited for our totally-not-date with Svetlana.
