We are Sirena Le Doux and we seek revenge against our former master. So far, we've grown more powerful, but there is much more to learn. With our list of allies and teachers slowly growing, we won't stop until we've reached the top, because that's where our former master waits.

When we last left our hero (Well, it depends on how you define 'Hero"), she was in the midst of planning to attend a gathering of local witches when her tower was attacked by ogres. Prior to that, her plans had been coming along nicely, with her allies unknowingly growing further and further under her thrall. After this sudden attack, Kaylessa is returned with a wounded head and the others are quite shaken as well...

It is morning. Due to the excitement of last night, you find yourself alone in bed. Ben slept near the door, wearing his armor with his father's sword nearby, in case anything should happen. Alex tended to Kaylessa with spells of healing and prayers of recovery while Merriam and Faye worked together to get things cleaned up. When it was all done, everyone was far too tired and slept in individual beds.

The first thing that crosses your mind when you awaken is a rather simple thought with a complex implication: 'Tonight is the night.'

You have agreed to attend a sabbath. The local hags invited you, as they apparently share an enemy with you: Mordrax. They will not be the only group in attendance, as apparently a number of dark practitioners will be involved, all to decide who shall rule as the next Witch Queen. Tonight, you are to head southwest of Francis' tower and find a circle of stones where you will meet the hags.

Closing your eyes again, you rub your head. You've already got something of a headache from these last two days and tonight isn't shaping up to be much better. But you'd best get ready -- in one way or another, you'll have to deal with these hags. They know who you are, and as the list of people who know the truth about you grows, the uneasier you get. Already bounty hunters, paladins and a chunk of the general populace are searching for you, so it would be in your best interest to confront them and get them on your side, or possibly eliminate them.

First thing's first, you'll have to determine if you'll be going there alone or not. Best to check on your companions and see what state they are in.

Heading downstairs, you pop into Kaylessa's room to find Alex sitting next to his bed on a chair with a small tray of soup, likely prepared by Merriam. Alex is helping the elf to eat, though he doesn't exactly seem too out of it. The cleric looks up as you enter. "Good morning, Mary!" he says, as chipper as ever.

"Good morning. How are you, Kay?"

"Ugh." The elf's groan doesn't seem one of pain, more of annoyance. "My head is killing me."

"Not yet, it isn't! I saw to that," Alex beems him a smile and another spoonful of soup.

You move closer to inspect him and see that he still has a nasty bruise on his forehead. While the wound itself has closed, there is still some swelling. Alex takes notice of your inspection.

"The swelling will go down soon enough," he assures you. "With good food and good rest, Kay will be right as rain in no time!"

"You sure do know your craft," you reply with a smile. "Did Merriam help at all?"

"Only with the soup," Alex says, confirming your earlier guess. "It's very good. I recommend trying some!"

Kay looks up at you and offers a weak smile. "Popped up at the wrong time, I suppose."

"We all do, sometimes." You give him a kiss on the forehead, which has a noticable effect on Alex, who is temporarily distracted. He catches himself and continues feeding Kay, who is a bit too proud and stubborn for this kind of treatment, but not enough to refuse it. As they continue with some light conversation, you lean back up and think.

'Kaylessa makes for a fine travelling companion; he was with me during that barbarian fiasco. But he wasn't particularly fond of how it ended, and if I end of making some kind of deal with these hags he may very well object again. Of course, some light thralldom might change that... if I wanted to bring him along.'

You leave the two of them and walk down into the keep, past the still-snoring Ben near the front door, where Merriam is hard at work cooking stew over the fire. You approach her as she bends over to spoon some soup into a bowl before straightening up and seeing you. "Oh, Mary. Good morning." She seems oddly non-engaging, something you notice instantly as she avoids looking at you. She busies herself with her task, clearly making it seem like she cannot talk at the moment.

"Have you seen Faye?" you ask, probing her with a question unrelated to her current state.

"In the mirror room," she hastily replies, gathing a bucket of water to wash one of the bowls with. You cock a brow and walk away, wanting to check on your mirror twin first.

You step into the next room where you find Faye pouring over a book of hers full of strange symbols and runes. She looks up as you enter and gives you a sour look. "Hello."

"Are you in a bad mood as well? Did something happen that I am not aware of?"

"I don't know, but I'm in a bad mood because I haven't found anything useful yet! I summoned some small things yesterday, planar minions and things from other realms, but none of them were of any use at all! I wanted to learn more about the mirror dimension but the things I summoned were too weak."

"I can guess where this is going."

"I need to summon more powerful beings," Faye explains, confirming your guess. "If I hope to learn anything related to going home, I need to learn it from creatures who have actual power and knowledge that we can harness."

"I don't know if that is a good idea at this time."

"Come on!" She points to her face. "Does this look like the face of someone who makes mistakes? You can't criticize it, because it's your own!"

>Go ahead and try, but be careful.

"I would rather you wait until I can help you," you tell her. "Perhaps when I learn some spells in the conjuring schools."

Faye closes her book and sighs. "I suppose so. Perhaps that new book of yours could help."

Your eyes flash upwards. "What new book?"

"That one you told me about."

You are silent for a moment. "I never told you about any book, Faye."

The white-haired girl is still for a moment, her brow furrowing lightly. "You didn't? Strange... I feel like you did."

"Well you know about it, and I didn't tell you. So how did you find out?"

"I don't know," she whispers. She brings a hand to her head. "Sirena... do you feel, I don't know, odd at all?"

"No, not quite. Why, do you?"

"I'm not sure on that either." She shakes her head, trying to clear her mind. "I think something strange is happening. I could remember you having the book, but if you never told me about it..."

Now you are curious. You know you never told her of the book, but here she is, talking about it. How could this be? Angello trickery? Some kind of divination on her part, perhaps unknowingly? Or is this due to you and she being mirror twins on the same plane of existence?

You decide to set the issue aside for now. "Tonight is the night we go to the hags," you tell Faye. She was with you when they first approached you in person. "If everything goes according to plan, we could get new power from them."

"Oh, that sounds like fun," Faye says, smiling more like her usual self. "When do we leave?"

"Get your things ready. I'll let you know when."

Faye nods and sets her book aside as you leave the room. You notice that Merriam is absent now and search the keep; she isn't on the bottom floor. You ascend the central winding staircase and find her in her room, folding clothes. You close the door behind yourself and she averts her eyes again. "Merriam," you say, approaching her from behind with a concerned voice. "What's wrong?"

"Nothing," she insists, folding up her clothes. "Just doing my chores."

You put a hand on her shoulder and gently coax her into turning around, but she still keeps her eyes off to the side. "Talk to me."

"I... I feel... guilty."

"Guilty? Why?"

Finally her gaze meets yours and you see conflict within those green pools you gave her. "I feel as though I've done a bad thing," she whispers. "T-tempting my brother into doing what we did." She brings a hand up to her mouth and closes her eyes.

"You don't have to feel guilty about something you enjoyed." You move her hand aside and tilt her head upwards. "And I know how much you enjoyed it."

"I know, gods I know, but I can't stop thinking about what my family would think if they found out. Brother and sister were not meant to, to kiss and to lie with each other," her voice cracks slightly. "The things I've done with Ben are... Oh, Mary, what would my father say if he saw his son bedding his daughter?" She hides her face again as you hold her close, gently running a hand through her hair.

"There, there..." you whisper.

"And I'm conflicted between my feelings for him and for you and, and for Kay," she admits.

"You like him?"

"I think he's cute," she nods. "But Ben is... I love him. He's my brother. And we... we... did those things. And there's you and Faye and... I'm so confused!"

It seems her sexually-charged adventures of late have taken something of a toll on the poor girl. 'I may have gone too far in a few places.'

"Merriam, listen to me," you say to her in a calm tone. "I know things seem strange and confusing now, but in time you'll adjust. I recommend taking things slow for now, slow and easy. I'll give you the space you need to sort things out."

"Mary... S-Sirena, I'm just so confused," she repeats herself, small tears forming in her eyes.

"Shh-shh-shh, I know. I know." You hold her close to your chest and affectionately kiss the top of her head. "You're no longer a little girl, Merriam. You're an adult woman now, and that means not caring what others think about you. What matters is what you think of yourself. It's okay to be sexually active, even if some would label it deviant. You've only just now been introduced to this wonderful world of true freedom, and I can understand if you're overwhelmed by it."

She seems to be calming down; your words are having quite an effect on her. "I know it might seem scary or confusing, but if you just take things slowly for now, let yourself adjust to your new liberation, I promise you that you'll be just fine." You tilt her head back up. "You love me, don't you?"

"Of c-course I do..."

"Then trust me as much as you love me and you'll be fine. I love you, and I love your brother. You love each other. What's wrong with love?"

"Nothing," she whispers with a small sniffle. "Nothing's wrong with love."

"That's my girl. Now let's see a smile." When she gives you one, you give her an encouraging kiss and stand up to leave, allowing her to return to her chores. "Just remember what we talked about and you'll be just fine."

After closing the door, you sigh and lean back against it. 'Gods, manipulating these country folk is a constantly uphill battle. I need to start finding women to send to Vincent so that I can learn better spells and skip this process in the future. While I enjoy that Merriam and Ben willingly serve me, I shouldn't have to solve all of their emotional problems for them.'

You shake yourself loose and walk down the stairs.

Down near the front door, you find Ben, still snoring, clad in his armor with his sword in his lap. You gently rap upon his metal shoulder, the noise of which wakes him up. "Huh? What? Is something happening!?"

You giggle. "No, Ben. Calm down. The ogres are gone and it's morning."

He rubs his eyes. "Oh. Sorry, I just... was, you know, trying to keep the tower safe." He clears his throat. "So, I trust everyone is safe? I was on guard duty, you know, so everyone should be."

With a smile, you pat his shoulder again. "Yes, Ben. Everyone's safe, you big strong man you."

"Hey... I'm trying."

"I know you must feel a little bad about being taken by those ogres last night, but look at it this way: you saved Kay's life! Without you, he might have drowned."

"Yeah, I suppose you're right. Still, I... I want to be strong to protect you and Merriam. I care about you both more than anyone else in the world."

Your heart nearly skips a beat; to hear him say that is adorable! But it comes less from genuine affection and more from the thrill of having engineered this love in him. Stepping close, you lean up to kiss him, deeply returning his love.

"You're getting there. You know what they say, a kingdom isn't built in a day."

"Is Merriam up in her room?"

"Give her some space. She's dealing with a few things."

"Are you sure? I could go up and--"

You put a finger on his lips. "Just trust me. She needs some time. Let her come to you." You give his cheek a peck and slip out the front door. "I'll be going into town for business and I may not be back for a while. Watch the tower for me; you're in charge while I'm away. And keep practicing, hero!"

"I will!" he promises.

After gathering up your things, namely your spellbook, you meet Faye outside by the cart. Xerro, always ready to go, is busying himself with push-ups alongside the horse. Faye is somewhat sparing in her belongings, as she doesn't have much, but makes sure to grab your magical items which you and she quickly go over.

As you and she sit in the back of the cart, you tell Xerro to head to Bridge Town, where you plan to cross the river and then travel north to the village where Elder Grey and your friendly abomination Boris awaits.

As you pass through Bridge Town, you hear some word about a crime that was committed last night. It is unrelated to the incident with the ogres, but ocurred at coincidentally roughly the same time. The drunken monk and the lizardman duo in jail managed to break out, but were quickly arrested when they both attempted to go to a local tavern instead of fleeing, under the pretense of not truly wanting to escape but rather to just get a better meal than what was served to them at the jail. After eating their fill, they were both kicked out of the tavern and quickly re-arrested, both drunk and with satisfied stomachs.

Is there anything else you would like to do while in Bridge Town today?

It occurs to you that you have yet to drop in on Sanzir and tell her the good news about Uncle Jed's less restrictive policy you had him agree to when you took advantage of his suggestive state after Angello's sudden reappearance. After dropping off Faye in the markets, you quickly disguise yourself and find her. She isn't hard to locate, being as notable a dwarf as she is, and so you quickly find her and deliver your message.

"He is going to allow you to purchase a respectable chunk of property," you inform her, leaving out the details of how you managed to work this deal. "So long as everything runs smoothly, he won't interfere with your business."

"I can promise you it will," she says confidently. "I run a very tight ship!"

"I don't doubt that. And, of course, our deal will still be in effect."

"Off the books," she winks.

You nod and slip back away from her, content to allow her to handle the remaining details until you drop in next time. Now you return to Faye and the two of you head up north towards the old ruined village. The less-travelled path can still be traversed by the horse and cart, and Xerro whistles a merry tune (as well as he can, anyway, with his reptillian mouth) as he takes you towards your destination.

Taking a brief detour from the side of the road, you leave Xerro to mind the cart as you and Faye approach the Cutter farm. There you discover Brutus hauling logs to the mill, three over one shoulder. The massive minotaur is working hard, more than making up for the absence of Ben, Jon and Jed. Family friend Jonah assists him, though cannot nearly keep up with the workload.

"Brutus!" you call out to get his attention. He pauses and offers a wave before setting down the logs near an impressive pile. He gives you a surprising smile, his beastial face twisting into a wide grin as you approach.

"Mary! Good to see you."

"You seem in high spirits, don't you?"

"The work is good. Feel stronger than ever! Much better than killing barbarians."

"I'm sure the barbarians would agree with you," you laugh. "Take care not to cut the whole forrest down, now."

Jonah wipes sweat from his brow as he walks over. "We've already filled Jed's quotas for this week and the next one. At this rate we could build a new house with all the logs we've been piling up."

Brutus appreciatively grabs his axe. "Work is good," he says enthusiastically. "Making me strong again. Gives me purpose."

"I'm glad you like it so much. It's good to see you enjoying something."

"Thanks to you," he bows his head. "You give me purpose again. Help me move on from losing my son."

You give the large minotaur a pat on the shoulder before encouraging him to keep up the good work, but to take heed to not damage too much of the woods. "The last thing you need is angry druids or some other fey folk coming to pay you back," you say with a smile. He promises to stick more closely to the quota and you and Faye ride on.

Further north, you approach the village containing Elder Grey. Faye has never met the old woman, though she has heard a few things from you on occasion.

"Stay here, Faye. Warn me if anyone is coming."

She pouts slightly and sits with her legs crossed. "Fine. Go on, then. Not like I wanted to meet her..."

"If all goes as planned, she'll be coming with us, so you'll have plenty of time to get to know her. In the meantime, just keep watch, okay?"

She remains with the cart, but is more fixated on her nails. Xerro instead provides the lookout. You proceed into the village and discover Elder Grey in her usual home, surrounded by her lovelies which affectionally nuzzle her even as bits of their flesh fall off. Boris is nowhere to be seen, but that is likely due to him patrolling the village or having taken refuge under the town tree where Brutus' undead son, which now comprises half of his being, was first encountered.

"Elder Grey," you greet her. "It is good to see you."

"Good to be seen! I can't quite say the same for you, though!" the blind woman cackles. "Soon the sabbath is upon us."

"So you know. The hags invited me. What can I expect?"

"Show me the necklace," she bids, and you take it out. She takes it and runs her hand over it. "Ahhh. So they granted you safe passage."

"Then it isn't a trap?"

"No, I think not. But they still want something out of you. This I know!"

"What might it be? It can't just be mutual hatred of my old master."

"We of the Blackfeather Coven have always sought young women to become future hags."

"A future I am not interested in."

She continues, "Your youth affords you certain advantages over the elderly. A witch with both beauty and youth can obtain great power when backed by a coven of hags."

"Is that what you think they want to do? Support me? But at what cost? Tell me what your old coven does."

"Your body," she replies. "They would seek to breed demons with your youthful body. And with magic like yours, your demonic spawn would be strong. You would be an attractive option for the demonic patrons the hags have ties with."

"Oh, lovely."

"So, is that why you left?"

"No. I left because I wanted a husband."

"That doesn't seem like it turned out too well."

"Well, it doesn't always, does it? But I still prefer my choice over what I would have become had I remained with them."

"So, they want some demon to knock me up. What is the benefit of this, exactly?"

"The same as having any child, I imagine. I had one once."

"With Old Man Grey?"

"Well, he was my only husband."

"Where is your child now?"

She looks away. "I wish I knew."

You purse your lips. "So, back on topic: why exactly do they want to breed demons? Or me with demons, specifically?"

"Not just any demons. The Blackfeathers have long held ties with a particular group, ones that feed on vengeance. The relationship is symbiotic; they seek vengeance, they draw power from the demons, and the demons feed on vengeful feelings. It's only natural that they would seek to use your body as host to a demon, likely their most powerful patron."

"I can't say I find the idea terribly appealing."

"Every hag that has remained in that coven has done it. I left, as I did not want to become one of them. When it happens, your body drains and you lose part of yourself. Hosting a demon means giving it part of your life essence, binding you not only to the group, but the demonspawn as well."

"Is that what tonight is to be about?"

"No. That would come later. Tonight, many envoys from groups, some from places all over the world, will be attending a secret meeting. Not merely hags, but dark druids, wicked elves, orc shamans, beasts from other realms entirely -- they will all be attending and aiming for one of their own to claim the title of Witch Queen."

Your brow furrows as you think for a moment, then you ask her, "Would you come with me?"

Her response is simple: "Yes."

"Really?"

"Yes."

"Huh. Thought that might be harder."

"I have an old score to settle with my former coven," she replies, running her hand across the necklace. "And your protection extends to your guests. It is the perfect way for me to return without them immediately killing me."

"I have a lot of questions. First, tell me more about your child."

"My daughter," she corrects you. "Her name is Livia. Or perhaps, WAS Livia. She may no longer be among the living. I know not."

"Was she like you, or her father?"

"She was... better. A gifted child. Far better than what he or I deserved to bring into this world."

"Gifted with magic?"

She nods. "Like you."

You are silent for a moment, and begin to realize that Elder Grey may have been helping you all along out of some kind of lost devotion to her long-gone daughter. "Do you think she may yet live?"

"I cannot say. She is gone, parted from us, and we parted from each other. She was a glue that held us together, and without her we broke apart. All I know is that she went south, far south... to the Alakaz Academy."

Your eyes widen. "Really? I studied there, but I knew no one named Livia. I admit, I wasn't there for very long, only two years."

"She would be older than you, child. Not by so much, but enough. I doubt you would have schooled with her." Elder Grey closes her milky eyes and shakes her head. "I know nothing more."

You decide to change the subject back. "Can you tell me more about your time with the hags?"

"I could, but I would rather wait until you see tonight."

"What can you tell me about the groups we may encounter?"

"Whoever decides to send envoys. Witch covens, diabolists, priests of darker gods, cults, demon-worshippers, planeswalkers, decaying ones, necromancers... a time like this is a gathering of many different practices, united in common goals but separated by ego, power and pacts. Many of these groups would be enemies at any other time, but under the black of the lightless moon, they meet and plot. Sometimes, knowledge is exchanged. Rituals are performed. Bonds are forged and broken. Business cards are exchanged. It is quite a time."

"And they will all be vying for the position of the Witch Queen?"

"A coveted position it is indeed."

"What of me? Could I become the Witch Queen?"

"Only if you are willing to do what absolutely must be done."

"And what is that?"

"Whatever it takes."

I'd like to just point out two things

1. Witch queens are usually visions of young women of terrible unfathomable power
2. If we can get the backing of whatever patron the hags follow we'll likely be able to become queen without the Demon babies
3. Eldar grey likely has a third option which is probably murdering them or their most prominent member

They offer to sell our soul to demons and be a baby factory for "some" power. Not to mention we would basically be their puppet. Did you listen to the blind witch story at all?

And the reunion is to decide who the Witch Queen will be TONIGHT. Hence why is stupid to want to be one right now. We lack allies, qualifications and we would end basically being a slave. Is almost more stupid than trying to turn our mirror clone into a baby demon factory because she is apparently developing mind reading when it comes to us (the book, she knew about it for some reason not to mention she thinks like us so by being corrupted by demons she would decide to get rid of us).

Making Faye a demon slut would be hot, but due to her innate bond with us, they could easily use her as a conduit to influence us, if she doesn't read our mind and betray us first.

We don't need to depend on others for power.
In fact the table seems to be flipped now.
The hags need OUR power, so they are trying to trick us with an appeal to our pride and greed in order to abuse our strength for their own gain.

You look up at her. "I want that title, and I want the power that comes with it, whatever it might be. Even if it is just influence. But I don't want to become a hag or join them, and seeing as how you have said you have a score to settle with them, I think we are alike in this. If you have some scheme against them you have been plotting, tell me. I wish to help."

Elder Grey smiles and brings a finger to her lips. "Shhh. You never knew who could be listening. When the time comes, you will know when I intend to bring about my vengeance upon the Blackfeathers."

"In the meantime, then, tell me what this Witch Queen title entails."

"The Witch Queen holds a great power within her. When she dies, another must claim it. This power gives her not only dominion of her realm, but the respect of those who wish to have held it themselves."

"What of this power, then? What is it?"

"That I do not truly know. What I do know is that it is linked to her realm."

"When you say realm, do you mean another plane of existence?"

"Yes. The very first Witch Queen created it long ago, for she was the greatest and most powerful witch of all, powerful enough to make her own world, a shadowy place that she filled with beings of malice, hatred and darkness. These beings served her, and have served every holder of her power since."

"So whomever holds the title, rules the realm, and from it draws power," you say as she nods. "But how is a successor chosen?"

"Everyone who desires it must earn the title in blood," she whispers. "In furious battle."

"So... a battle? A tournament? How is it organized?"

"All are taken to an ancient site and brought before a council. This impartial body judges who is and is not worthy, and when all who seek to claim the title have been found worthy, they are transported to the battleground. There, they must battle until only one remains... And come the next light of the moon, it shall shine upon a new Witch Queen."

"Once you are taken to the battleground, there are no rules, barring only one may survive."

"Yes. I imagine some of them will. But in the end, only one may survive."

You pause and think for a moment. 'I wonder... Faye is me, technically. If I brought her in with me, could we both win and claim dual victory on the grounds of us being the same person?'

You look back up at the blind woman. "There is something else I have been considering. I've seen many creatures that are much more powerful than myself. Not to mention how many I do not yet know of. Why would they select me as their candidate instead of trying for it themselves?"

"Because they know they would lose," Elder Grey says with a smile. "That is YOUR bargaining position, dear. They have hit the limit on their power and now seek to gain more through you. By tying you to them, your success would be their success. Through you earning the title of the Witch Queen, their own power and influence would grow."

"I would rather have it without them leeching off of me like some parasite," you reply. "I don't mind servants, but they would make a servant of me even if I was queen!"

"They would."

"I hope your plan is good, then," you reply. "Because I'll handle getting the title. I want it, and I'll have it. Nothing has stopped me before and I am more than willing to do what needs to be done, whatever it may be, just like you said."

You help Elder Grey outside, where you discover your loveable abomination, Boris. After bringing them both back to the cart, you inroduce them to Faye and Xerro, the latter of whom hides under the wagon upon seeing the monster.

"Faye, this is Elder Grey. Elder Grey, this is Faye, my... friend."

Faye winks. "Nice to meet you!"

"What similar voices you two have," she notes with some amusement.

"Right... This is Boris, my original minion."

"He looks sort of familiar..."

Elder Grey sniffs the air. "You two even smell similar."

As you help Elder Grey and Boris into the back of the cart (taking a moment to disguise him with an illusion, just in case) you explain to Faye what you have learned. Xerro keeps his eyes trained forward, not wanting to look back at the frightening abomination, even if it is currently disguised.

"So, we go to a big meeting, make some friends, and then kill them all and get power. I'm in! It sounds like fun! Do you think there will be a pub? Perhaps we can have a mixer prior to our murder!" She giddily claps her hands and bounces in place as the wagon travels across the uneven land, heading southwest.

"Be careful not to make too many friends there," Elder Grey warns. "Everyone there will be looking to take advantage of as many things as they can, yourselves included."

"There's nothing wrong with a little being taken advantage of from time to time," Faye says with a wink. When Elder Grey does nothing in reaction, Faye slaps herself, realizing the woman is actually blind.

"Just stick near me and don't do anything I wouldn't do," you tell her. "I'm SERIOUS about that last part, Faye."

Faye leans in. "So, what's the plan?"

"We'll come up with one. I'd like to drop by Francis first and see if we can learn anything additional. After all, we have plenty of time left in the day."

"Oooh, the pervy archmage, right? I haven't met him yet. I bet we could wrap him around our fingers tighter than a rubber band!"

"Don't underestimate him," you warn her. "I made that mistake. He's powerful. He has a copy of the Codex Arcana!"

Faye blinks a few times.

"You know, the Codex Arcana? Anything?"

"Nope."

"Well, what's the most powerful arcane tome where you come from?"

"The Compendium Arcanix, duh. Everyone knows that."

You shoot her a nasty look and roll your eyes. "The point is, he's not what he seems. Well, he IS what he seems, but he's also more than what he seems."

"Indeed," Elder Grey agrees. "Most in the region know him. Most try to actively avoid him."

"Well, I'm not most people," you say with a confident grin. "I've dealt with Francis twice now and profitted both times."

"Merriam told me otherwise," Faye whistles nonchalantly.

It isn't long before you spot his tower in the distance and point it out to Xerro. He turns the cart and begins to approach it, but the nearer you grow, the more apparent it is that something is wrong.

You begin to hear angry voices, a mob of them. Specifically a female mob of them. As your cart pulls forward, you see a surprisingly organize protest going on outside of his tower. There are women handing out torches and pitchforks and others making signs. Reading some of them nets results such as "Take Responsibility" "No Magic Perverts" and "Keep it in your Pants"

"Oh, by the gods, Francis. What have you done now?"

As they chant all manner of negative things, Francis pokes his head out of the tower to a chorus of 'Boos' and even less friendly words. He gives a big sigh, but then lights up when he sees you. "Mary!" he shouts, and the women look at you. "I didn't know you'd be dropping by today! Come on in!"

As you and Faye approach the door, the women throw nasty insults at you, calling you all manner of names from 'Streetwalker' to 'Magic Slut' to 'Wizard Butter Dump'

Strangely enough, more than enough of them seem jealous rather than outright angry. As you and Faye open the door and slip inside before they can start throwing things at you, Francis comes down the stairs.

"I see you've met my fanclub," he jokes. He's busy straightening his robes and hasn't noticed Faye yet.

When he looks up, his jaw nearly drops off, just as his eyes nearly bulge out of his head. You smile and hold up your hands to indicate Faye. "Francis, meet my twin, Faye."

"Habbidi hummuna-hummunna what now?" he asks, doing a double take. "There are... TWO of you?!" The wide range of expressions he goes through in so short a period of time is exceptionally amusing. His eyes dart between you both, sizing you up -- breats, faces, hips, breasts, butts, lips, breats and all. They're a perfect match.

He falls upon his knees and clasps his hands together. "Oh, sweet merciful gods, I know not what I did to make this happen, but from this day forward I will never doubt you again."

"You actually had nothing to do with it."

"Oh, good," he says, popping back up and acting cool. "I never put much stock in those gods anyway. Sooo..." He slides between you both, putting an arm around each of your shoulders, "what can Francis Langley do for you two fine, fine, identically sexy ladies?"

You take his hand and twist his arm, forcing him down onto a knee. "Tut, tut! No hands on the merchandise yet, Francis."

"Oh, yes ma'am!" he says, enjoying the arm twist perhaps a bit too much. Faye puts a hand to her mouth and giggles. "You want in on this? I got something on the front you could twist."

You force him to turn around. "Talk, Francis. First thing's first: are those women outside angry at you like that gnome was? Are THEY pregnant, too?"

"No, no!" he assures you. "I would never! ...Well, with them, anyway. I think that's what they're mad about."

"What?"

"Well, you saw them! They're boring. I could never spread my wizardly goodness to them. I mean I dated them all, sure, but I dumped them by the second date."

"How charming," Faye rolls her eyes.

"They're just after my power! All the women are. Speaking of which, what power are you looking to get from me this time?" he asks, raising and lowering his eyebrows several times rapidly.

"Knowledge, actually. And yes, I know, 'Knowledge is power.' If you want your balls intact, you'll keep those kinds of comments to yourself."

He grins. "If you say so. So what do you want to know?"

"Tell me about the Witch Queen."

His expression instantly sours. "Oh, THAT bitch." He walks over to his chair and slumps down in it. "So, what? Is she back to mock me some more? Did she send you a twin to tease me? I swear, if I knew where she was, I'd kill her myself."

"Well, good news then? She's dead."

Francis approaches a nearby wall of books and starts throwing them aside carelessly as he searches for something. "If she's dead, that means I don't owe her anything anymore. On a slightly less-important note, that means a new Witch Queen is going to have to be elected."

"Elected? I thought it was a battle."

"Isn't every election?" He pauses and looks at the book for a moment longer than usual only to confirm it isn't what he wants. He tosses it over his shoulder, nearly hitting you.

"So, I take it you didn't have a very good history with the Witch Queen?"

"There are few women who do," he says. "With me, I mean. Her less so. Or more so? Hard to tell, honestly."

"Well, I want to--"

"--To become the new Witch Queen, right. I already guessed that. Ah-hah!" He finds the book he is looking for and takes it off the shelf. He blows dust off of it. "I got this from a bargain bin on the seven-hundred and thirty-fifth level of the Abyss."

"Really?"

"Eh. Might've been the two-hundred and twenty-ninth. Those two are so damn similar." He hands the book to you and you look at its title.

"The Witch Queen Incunabulum, by Scyrocro the Fallen Scholar. You just had this lying around?"

"Yeah, I thought it might come in handy one day if I ever mustered up the motivation to take her out. It's yours, take it."

You flip through its pages. It appears to be lore related to the Witch Queen, the original one, as well as fairly detailed information on her successors and the groups who have long held ties to her and those who have failed to gain it, as well as information on the Witch Queen's powers.

"This could be useful," you note, turning to sit near the fire as you flip through it.

"Happy to help," he says as he ogles Faye.

>I want to become the new Witch Queen

> The Hags want me to become the new Queen as well, but I'd like to screw them over after they help me. They don't seem to want it for me just because I'm so sweet I deserve it.

> Why did you dislike her anyways?

> Is there any way to check if she really is dead? It seems kind of . . . Convenient, the timing. Did the Hags have a unique relationship with her?

Finally

> If I just wanted to make sure nobody else could claim the position while I get more powerful, is that possible?

I tell you guys, denying anyone else getting it is just as good as us getting it as someone else's puppet for the short term, and better in the long term.

Either we get enough power to take it on our own later, or other factions will have a weaker position since they'll want to break the deadlock before someone else does.

If we're too weak, than an empty seat waiting is better than a full one.

Third plan is supporting someone too weak to hold it for long. Probably the Hag's plan or the plan of anyone supporting us.

Unless we can use Faye to cheat. Maybe Francis can help us with that.

> Merge with Faye into one being with two bodies. Stick second body into bag of holding or something. Use as backup, we "die" in this body then transfer to Fayes, raise our body as an undead, transfer back and BAM! Budget Lich with Faye body as our Phylactry. Lich body dies, Faye body re-births us as a living Lich.

Okay that spun out of control.

You run your hand along the cover of the book, then look up at him as he continues to eye Faye, who intentionally leans over his chair so as to give him a good view.

"Do you think you could help us more, Francis?"

"Hm? Oh, uh, maybe."

"Maybe what?"

"Maybe baby," he says, distracted by tits.

"Francis!"

He snaps back to you. "Hm? Sorry?"

"I'm asking you to help me become the new Witch Queen."

He scratches his thin neckbeard. "Hmm... I think that could be mutually beneficial. As the Witch Queen, you would come into a lot of power and influence that I could use."

"Rephrase that or explain yourself," you say flatly.

"I meant being as how we're such good friends," he elaborates. "We're friends, aren't we?"

You hook him with a sultry smile. "I think we have a relationship that goes beyond mere friendship. Don't you?"

"Oh, I agree," he readily says. "And I think it would be neat to have a Witch Queen in my life who doesn't want to kill me. So I assume, anyway. But if I'm going to help you, I have two terms: one, you don't betray my trust and confidence. And two, no one else can know that I'm helping you. The last thing I need is a bunch of angry spellcasting women mad at me, gods know I have ENOUGH of those already."

"No one will know about our connection."

"Oh, and three, can I see those?" he points at Faye.

With a readiness that surprises even you, she reaches up and pulls her shirt down. Francis slide further down his chair and gasps, utterly entranced by the viasage of such perfect breasts.

"Anything you need," he stammers.

Faye winks at you and slides her shirt back up.

"Perhaps a look at the Codex Arcana?"

His face changes. "Well, that's..."

"Or, an item of great value or power?"

He scratches his chin. "Hm..."

"Perhaps you could accompany us in the form of an animal?"

"I don't know about that..."

You stand up alongside Faye and nod at her. You both reach up and tear down your shirts, exposing four perfect and perfectly identical mammories for his eyes to feast upon. His eyes which, upon seeing such a sight, roll upwards as he slumps back into his chair, nearly passing out.

"I thought I had been to heaven already," he whispers. He snaps back up as you and she cover your chests again. "Wait wait wait!" He holds up his hands in a groping manner. "May I?"

You roll your eyes and pull your shirt back down, as does Faye. His eyes go wide as his hands reach forward...

Whereupon you and Faye both snap and grab them! He looks up at you pleadingly. "Huh?"

"Only if you help us win," you say with a smile. "Then we can talk about touching."

"And more," Faye winks.

His fingers twitch slightly; so close to being buried in those amazing-looking globes of flesh...

"GAH! ALRIGHT ALREADY, ENOUGH WITH THE TORTURE! All three! All three!"

He falls back as you and Faye cover up, giving each other a wink. Francis seems as though in great pain or carrying a great burden; not to mention the aching tent in his robes.

"Deal, Francis. Firstly..."

"I'd like a look at the Codex Arcana."

"It's upstairs," he says, clearly not all here at the moment. You take Faye by the hand and lead her upstairs to his desk. There you find the book, just as you remembered it.

"He just leaves this thing unguarded?" she asks. "Anyone could sneak in here and take it."

"I very much doubt that," you reply, running your hand along its spine. "Don't be fooled by his perverse nature. I'm serious."

"If you say so," she shrugs.

"I have glimpsed into this tome only once before, and it nearly killed me," you explain to her. "We must be careful."

"Then let's do it together!" Faye says with a smile, holding your hand tightly. "After all, if you did it once, then surely we both can do it now."

You smile and kiss her shoulder as you both take the book into your laps. Somewhere down below, you hear Francis let out a cry. With her hand over yours, you both open the book.

>As we have already glimpsed into the Codex, we may do so again without harm, but only because time has passed.

>So, we shall now vote on a special power: this is unlike the milestones, and more of a once-in-a-while boost that we can take advantage of.

>Due to the shifting nature of the Codex, the options will never be the same twice, unlike the milestones, but there may be other ways to acheive those that we do not select.

>>
>>1203732
>Gain the power to share thoughts, memories and feelings with Faye, even from a great distance away
It's effectively free telepathy with Faye, which allows us to freely coordinate with each other without trouble. While fusing seems good, it's going to lose its value over time, as we already have plans to fully share our spells between each other.
>>
>>1203732
>>Gain the power to teleport to her location and her to yours, instantly, across any distance but not across planes

Aight guys, listen up.

>Gain the power to fuse with Faye into one person for no more than an hour, sharing all spells and knowledge

Not that useful. We're sharing spells and knowledge anyway so fusing just limits our capabilities as two separate beings, unless there is some weird "SUPER FUSION" power up we get which I don't believe we do.

>Gain the power to share thoughts, memories and feelings with Faye, even from a great distance away

Telepathy spells are out there. This isn't that unique. We can replicate it.

>Gain the power to teleport to her location and her to yours, instantly, across any distance but not across planes

Teleport spells are out there. This isn't that unique. We can replicate it.

>Gain an exceptionally powerful spell that takes the both of you to cast; you know half and so does she

Actually genuine and unique choice. Don't think there's anything like it other than esoteric magic rituals.

>Gain the power to duplicate yourselves, making two of you and two of her, that can fight; only lasts a short time

Duplication spells are out there. This isn't that unique. We can replicate it.

So, I think we should choose

>Gain an exceptionally powerful spell that takes the both of you to cast; you know half and so does she

Because we're about to go into a witch's brawl with Faye and we could really use a "kill fuckers dead spell"
>>
>>1203732
>Gain an exceptionally powerful spell that takes the both of you to cast; you know half and so does she

Subtetly is useful, but we already have that in ample supply. I think it is time we got a sledgehammer.
>>
>>1203817
Yeah, but if they just insist aye is a different person than becoming witch queen would be difficult since its last man standing. Being one person probably shares our reserves of mana and actually makes us one person to loophole that problem.
>>
>>1203817
>>Gain the power to fuse with Faye into one person for no more than an hour, sharing all spells and knowledge
Potentially this could be useful if we're going into a thunderdome for the Witch Queen test. But it does need a sufficient power boost to make it worth while.
>>
>>1203845
That is an interesting consideration, but i think we can exploit the loophole of us being the same person without fusing.

As you and Faye open the book, a bright light blasts you both in the eyes. You hold onto each other tightly as the Codex takes you for a ride across the astral plane. As you are once more beholden to the awesome power of the book, this time with Faye along for the ride, you become keenly aware of her spritual essence and how alike it is to your own. Your mind seems to expand and entwine with hers, but only in a sense of knowing just how apart she is from you physically. Across all of reality, you hone in on her soul like a beacon, and she does the same for you. In this way you both know exactly where the other is in a way that goes beyond simple sight or physical proximity; now barriers such as distance seem to mean nothing.

And when you return to your bodies and close the book, the sensation remains. You both open your eyes and stare into each other's, staring at your visage like a mirror. You know, and you know that she knows, and you know that she knows you know, that you now share a power between you.

>Spell-Like Ability Unlocked:
>Twin Teleport
>You have the power to instantly teleport to your mirror twin. It will allow you to cross great distances in the blink of an eye with but a flash of light, provided you both are on the same plane of existence. This spell requires no verbal components, only concentration. After honing in on your twin's spirit, you will be taken there, body and soul, to safely end up alongside her, or perhaps not so safely (depending on the situation she is in). She has this power with you as well. Both of you can teleport to the other only once per period of twenty-four hours, or once each long rest.

As you and she discuss how useful this could be, both for escaping sticky situations and calling for backup, Francis stumbles into the room with a chest. "Okay!" he says as he walks on shaking legs. "Here's my good stuff. It's not organized but I don't care."

He sets it down and opens it up, revealing a chest of magical items, nearly overflowing.

A ring catches your eye.

Picking up the ring, you marvel at it. Its brilliant surface sparkles with magic, even though it is currently empty. This is a ring of spell storage: you can imbue it with a certain limit of magical power and then instantly release the spells stored within, without any physical components. It takes time and effort to store the spells, and once they are used they are used, but that only frees up the space. You know very little spells from the field of enchantment, but this ring is a very high-end piece of equipment.

"I'll take this," you say, slipping it onto your other hand.

"Oh, and I want this one!" Faye says, picking up a lamp and rubbing it.

Francis holds up his hands. "No, DON'T!"

Too late. Smoke starts to pour out of its spout and from it springs a humanoid form!

A woman, clad in exotic and loose-fitting garments comprised mostly of sashes and jewelry, leaps from the smoke. He daggers are just as exotic, shaped and curved unlike any you have ever seen. Her skin, a rich dark tone, recalls those of the deserts to the far, far south and her eyes, a brilliant fiery orange, are alight with passion. Incidentally, her eyes are all you can see of her face, for it is covered in a veil along with most of her head, save for her long, dark hair which falls elegantly behind her. She is gorgeous, her body lithe and toned, curvy and unblemished.

She immediately pins Francis up to the wall with a blade to his throat. "You! Long have I waited to exact my revenge upon you!" Her accent is thick, though not greatly so.

"Nice to see you too, Raniya," he says, smiling as the blade presses against his neck. "Would you mind putting that down?"

"I am not listening to you! You no longer hold my lamp!" She looks back at Faye. "Shall I gut him like the pig he is?"

Faye purses her lips and puts a finger to her mouth. "Hmmm..."

"Oh, come on, baby! It wasn't that bad!" he insists, but Raniya shoots him a nasty look and presses the blade harder against his flesh.

You hold up a hand, indicating for Faye to keep things as they are. "Who are you?" you ask the genie.

"I am Raniya alha Hala'Sharradhir, of the ancient royal bloodline of Hala and the noble house of Sharrad. I was the greatest of all the warriors in my temple-sect, selected for the honor of becoming an eternal, a djinn-ala! My glory was to know eternal battle, to spill the blood of my enemies and my master's enemies for countless generations, and THIS PALE FIEND HAD ME DANCE FOR HIM!"

As she presses her knife to his neck, he sweats and gives a nervous smile. "Hey, it wasn't THAT bad."

"I am a warrior. I dance on the battlefield and deal in death! You had me entertain you like I was some common harem slave, subject to your perverse whims!" She grabs his arm and flips him over, ending him with her on his back, pressing one knee onto his spine all the while holding the blade against his neck. She looks up at Faye. "You! You hold my lamp. If you've no love for this sick, pale and pimpled pig, let me end his life!"

"Hey, I don't have pimples," he protests. "I use creams for that!"

You take a step closer. "So, you obey whoever holds your lamp?"

"Yes."

"You cannot disobey?"

"No, I am forbidden. This one took advantage of that to use me like some stripping wench at a watering hole!"

"Unfortunately I can't let you kill him."

"You don't hold my lamp."

You reach over and hold out your hand, and Faye places it in your palm. "Now I do."

Raniya closes her eyes and nods. "Very well." She withdraws her blade from his skin and kicks him down to the floor. "I am bound to follow. But know that I don't like it!"

"So, you like to fight?"

"I live for combat. The clash of blades, the fire of magic, the cries of war. I live for it. It is why I was chosen to become a guardian genie, a warrior in a bottle, to be called forth to deal swift death to my master's foes. But now I find myself in a strange land with strange people, including perverts such as this." She kicks him again.

'Clearly she has some independant thought, seeing as how I didn't tell her to do that. I rather like her fire.'

You look down at Francis and decide to get on her good side. "Francis! How dare you not recognize the value of this warrior from another land! On your knees in front of her. Now!"

Francis looks up at you with a cocked eyebrow. "Seriously?"

"Kick him again."

The battle genies does so, prompting him to go, "Okay, okay! I'm doing it!" He gets onto his knees and faces her.

"Now, Francis... apologize."

"Alright. I'm sorry."

"Look her in the eyes! Show some respect!"

Francis grumbles and looks up at her as she stands with her hands on her hips. Faye giggles softly alongside you. Francis takes a deep breath. "Oh, mighty Raniya, please forgive me. I know not what I do."

Namiya turns her nose up at him. "Hmpf! I've heard better apologies from peasants! Even they can be nobler than you, it seems."

He rolls his eyes. "Yeah, yeah..."

Namiya strides past him and looks at you and Faye. "I know not who you are, but so long as you hold my lamp, I am yours to command." She bows before you.

"Then hear this, warrior. I am Sirena Le Doux, and this is Faye Le Scivias. We are twins from mirrored realms, of equal status. You shall serve us both, and I swear we shall give you a proper battle."

Her eyes seem to light up at that. "That is all I ask for, my masters."

You hold up a finger. "Mistresses."

"Very well, my mistresses. My blade is yours, in accordance with the laws I am bound to follow."

You hand the lamp back to Faye, who cradles it in both hands. You then ask the genie, "What are your strengths?"

"I was trained by the greatest of masters from the ancient and traditional temples of war. I am deadly with my blades. I cut quickly and true, striking at the hearts of my enemies. If they are honorable, I shall give them a fast and noble death. If they are not, I shall let them bleed. One way or another, my foes shall fall."

"So, just swords, then?"

"I can throw them."

"What about magic?"

"As a djinn-ala, I can call upon the powers of flame, and as such cannot be burnt. My heart already burns with the passion and love of battle."

"Can you be controlled by another?"

"No magic other than the magic of my lamp may influence me. I am bound only by it and it alone."

"Good to know," you reply. "I look forward to seeing what you can do in the coming battles."

"I shall serve you well." She bows, and Faye banishes her. She becomes as smoke, which is sucked back into the bottle as she rubs it.

Faye smiles. "I like her."

"As do I..." You look down at Francis. "Alright, get up. Come on, we've got places to be."

He stands up and dusts himself off. "I didn't make her dance THAT much, you know."

"One times too many perhaps," you smirk. "Chop chop! You agreed to turn into an animal, so let's go."

He straightens his robe. "Fine. Here we go." He closes his eyes and casts a spell, taking out some material components and sprinkling them upon his head. Before your eyes he begins to shrink, into the small form of a rat.

"Of course," you mutter as Faye scoops him up.

"Aww, lookit him! He's so cute! Hello there, Mr. Whiskers!"

The rat stands up and looks her in the eyes. "For the record, I can still talk," he says in a squeaky voice.

"Awww! Would you like some cheese?"

"How about a place to snuggle in, toots?"

She places him in the valley of her breasts and he pokes out his little head. "Ah, the gods are good..."

As the wagon travels southwest, the four of them come up with a battle plan.

"We submit me as our competitor," you explain. "Elder Grey said that once the battle begins, there are no more rules. Faye, you'll teleport to me once the battle begins. I'll take the magic items, just to be safe."

"Got it," she gives a thumbs-up.

Francis, poking his head out from between her tits, asks, "So, once we're on the battlefield, the name of the game is to destroy everything and everyone else, right?"

"Only one may remain," Elder Grey confirms.

"I'd rather stay back and let the others finish each other off," you say. "I plan on trying to appear as little a threat as possible."

"That may be difficult if they learn who you are," Francis points out. "After all, you're kind of a hot number in the local kingdom."

"But these people come from all over the world, don't they?"

"Yes," Elder Grey nods. "I doubt many of them would care or be particularly impressed by your name. If any know it at all."

"Well, they'll all know me by the end of the night," you smile. Faye hands you the magic lamp and you hook it onto your belt and take a moment to adjust your other belongings, ensuring they are all within easy reach. Your orb, staff and other tools are secure to ensure that they are not stolen. Faye will be watching your back the entire time.

Elder Grey holds up a finger. "When we are taken to the gathering place, we will have time to meet with the others. The other groups submitting a competitor. That will be just as important a time, as it will give you a chance to see them and know them before you must kill them -- or rather, avoid being killed by them."

"Maybe we can even make a few friends," Faye says. "Before we kill them, I mean."

"It won't hurt them until it does," you smile.

You reach the circle of stones. The sun is only just beginning to move into setting position -- you likely still have a few hours before the other hags arrive.

As the others settle in and wait, you begin to read the incunabulum, and learn the lore of the Witch Queen.

The first Witch Queen was a dark elf, Aran, a woman of great magical talent even as a child where her story begins. Desiring power above all else, she found a way to create a realm of her own. She spent much of her life in this realm, growing stronger as she fed it and it fed her in turn. Much like herself, the realm seemed to grow with time, until it was a full world of its own. But even with this power, she had no subjects, and so ensnared many to come live within her personal paradise. But it was a paradise only for her, as all who were brought within were changed, killed or otherwise. She lorded over this new dark race until she desired more, as she always did. And so, she sought to anchor herself to the world she had fled from, creating a great ritual site deep underground. Here she built a cult around herself, which would continually attract new servants and minions.

It is here that she set the rules of her power, because she desired eventually to retire and name an heir. Before she could select one, however, she was killed. A paladin of great power brought forth divine wrath upon her, ending her corruption -- or so was thought. Her realm sought a new master from her chief servants, and one was selected when she killed the others. And so was set the rites of succession for the Witch Queen's dark power. In the near two centuries since, several have held the title for varrying periods of time. Some have been murdered, by righteous warriors or rivals who hoped to claim it for themselves, but the realm only allows its power to those who earn the title in a bloody competition: the Black Gauntlet, a contest with the only rule being survive.

Those who win the Black Gauntlet become the new master of the Realm of Aran and with it come the powers of the Witch Queen.

You close the book when you hear a crow in the distance. The others look up. Elder Grey opens her milky eyes. Nearby, Boris stands up.

"It is time."

Beauty and corruption lead back to Sirena, but that would probably reach the ears of our former master very quickly. But I do agree on the theme.

Hmm, Maria? As a complement to Mary, with as much formality or symbolism as we can stuff into the last name.

The reason I choose beauty and corruption for sirena besides it being well-suited to her is because it is also what Witch-queens are famous for

You banish your disguise of Mary, standing in your vixen clothing alongside Faye who does the same. Boris stands behind you both and Elder Grey in front.

Now come the hags. Fog precedes them, rolling across the ground in thick tendrils that seem to wrap around the trees. Dark, hunched-over shapes emerge and the hags, several of them in number but you cannot be exactly sure, approach.

"Sister, this is most unexpected," the lead hag says, removing her hood to reveal a, well, haggish face. "Perhaps you have come to beg for forgiveness?"

Elder Grey cackles. "I have come for far more than that. I have come to take my rightful place."

The lead hag cackles back at her, two old crows laughing. "You have no power here! All that you were was stripped from you when you fled."

"I've more power than you know," she claims, holding up a finger. "I have seen sights that would drive you to do what I did to my eyes. Let me give you a glimpse..."

Now she points at the lead hag, whose eyes suddenly go wide. She screams and claws at her face as her eyes begin to bleed. The other hags step backwards as the suddenly mad hag falls down, her feathered cloak shedding as the kicks into the dirt. Elder Grey cackles all the while, taking glee in torturing the old woman. "Such sights, are they not?" she taunts. Then, just as quickly as it started, it ends and the woman lies very still. Not dead, but her eyes are bloody messes. Your lips part in a silent gasp as you contemplate just how powerful this old woman may be.

Elder Grey motions with her hand. "Now that there is no question of who is in charge here, collect her up. She still has her uses."

A second hag speaks up. "You cannot claim leadership without a gift to the patron!"

"Fortunately, I brought two," Elder Grey says, and then suddenly you feel Brutus' hands upon your arms. He uses his other two arms to grab Faye, and both of you are hoisted upwards.

"Wh-Hey!" Faye shouts.

Elder Grey turn around and smiles up at you two. "Sorry, young ones."

Then, she winks one of her milky eyes. Your eyes widen. Could this be an act for the hags, or an act for you? You look over at Faye and Francis, whom is not bound as she is. Elder Grey must have a plan...

You put up a fake fight as Boris carries you behind Elder Grey. The hags move into a cave system as night looms overhead. Faye does the same, though she shouts a few more curse words than you. Once inside the twisting caverns, you and she are taken to a cell and thrown inside.

Elder Grey stands outside with your undead minion and some of the hags. "Don't worry, pretties. Your fate will soon be decided." She smiles at you in particular and walks off, leaving Boris to guard you.

'She wouldn't leave Boris here when she knows that I control him,' you reason. 'But the other hags don't quite know that, do they?'

"I can't believe she's doing this," Faye says, standing up and pulling on the bars. "We need an escape plan!"

Francis is the one to speak up. "It's an act, you rube. Even I can tell that."

"Hush, Mr. Whiskers."

You stand up and put a hand on her shoulder and whisper, "He's right. Elder Grey and I spoke on this. She has a plan, just trust me."

The three of you wait for some time until a hag returns and opens up the cell door. "Come along, little ones. The mothers have spoken."

You and she (and Francis) are taken before a council of hags that sit in a circle around a large fire. The walls are covered in strange embroideries and fetishes of feathers and bone. Elder Grey sits in one place among the circle, and the two of you are forced to sit and complete it.

Elder Grey looks out at the others. "Sisters, our time has come. The Witch Queen has, for too long, been out of our reach. No more!" Several of the hags shake hollowed bones with beads inside of them, creating a chorus of strange rattling sounds. "Now we shall have one of our own claim the title!"

"They are not one of our family yet," another says. "They must make the pact!"

"What pact?" you speak up.

"With our lord," Elder Grey replies. "The demon of vengeance."

"He will see that we have our revenge against our hated enemy!" another cries. "Glory to him, the vengeant!"

You remain still and silent as Elder Grey continues, "The great demon of vengeance will have them, but it will not be this night!"

The others look at her and mutter amongst themselves. One of them stands up. "They must be claimed by our lord!"

"And then DIE!" Elder Grey silences her. "Our lord's gift has made you all powerful. From him you have been given great magic, but our lord only has so much to give. Too many have taken his power for his own."

"What are you saying, then? We give up our power so that she may have it all?" one asks. "Blasphemy! The power is ours by right!"

"It was yours," she corrects. "You have misused his power! Petty tricks in the forest, whisperings of sacrifices of men, what great feats have you acheived with the power you have been given? You are all weak!"

They grow silent as Elder Grey points at you. "There is one who is worthy of the power. She did not need a demon to grant her magic; it flows from her freely! She deserves the power, all of it! And in turn she will make us all great when she becomes the Witch Queen!"

'Now I see your game,' you think to yourself. 'But will they go along with it?'

The witches whisper among each other. Elder Grey holds up a finger and they all go silent. "Any who do not wish to give up their power can be forced to do so through death."

"You think you can threaten us?" one of them says. "You, who ran from us into the arms of a man?"

"Silence," Elder Grey demands. "The power, spread so thinly between all of you, will mean nothing if it is not all given to our chosen scion. We may take greatness, or we may wallow in obscurity and misery, never to have our revenge!"

Again they descend into whisperings, but after several moments, one of them concedes. "I shall give up my power."

"And I," says another. Soon they are echoed by most of the room.

"Then let us perform the ritual and return what was given," Elder Grey says. Again she looks at you and smiles. "We must summon our lord and do what must be done."

You and Faye both sit back as the ritual begins. The hags all chant and rattle their bones, their heads swaying in unison. The light from their fire seems to grow, dancing with strange shadows upon the walls. Their chant turns from a whisper into a roaring choir of strange incantations and mantras. One by one, the hags open their mouths and a black smoke pours forth, feeding into the fire, causing it to grow. This black smoke collects at the roof of the cavern, where it begins to swirl into a kind of portal.

Entranced by this unholy rite, you watch as the hags twitch and convulse as their power is stripped from their bodies. The fire grows upwards, into the vortex of the smokey gate, where a figure begins to take form. It is like a man, but far more sinister, with long limbs and fingers tipped in claws. Its mishapen body, thin and lean, with burning eyes and a malevolent grin, emerges from this void. This demon grows, with strange protrusions emerging from its back and a long tail hanging between a pair of triple-jointed legs.

As the witches give up their power to feed the demon, he acheives his full form and looks upon you, staring you in the eyes with a hunger you cannot know. His sight bores into your own and you feel as though he is staring into your very soul, and it speaks to you, promising of the thing you want more than anything else in the world: revenge. And for a moment, you willingly listen to its promise.

That is when the trap is sprung.

The demon looks up, past you, distracted by something. It is not Boris, it is someone else... The demon suddenly hisses and holds up its hands as a light, a different light, enters the cavernous chamber. The other hags all scream as a lantern is held up... by none other than Old Man Grey.

Your eyes widen as he reaches up and opens the lantern, and as though it were a whirlpool, the fire, smoke and the demon itself are drawn towards it. The demon shrieks, causing you to claps your ears shut as it is dragged towards the lantern. Wind blows through the chamber, kicking up feathers, hair and robes as all the hags scramble. Elder Grey holds up a necklace of feathers and continues to chant, but a different incantation, one that keeps the demon at bay. Its long hands reach for you as it is dragged past, and its claws find your flesh and rake your leg. The wound is superficial and the demon fails to hold on as its feet and tail are brought into the lantern.

With one final shriek, the demon is sucked within, and Old Man Grey closes it, sealing it. The fire within burns brighter now, with the visage of the demon's face.

For a moment, all is silence, until Elder Grey turns and screams at the old hags, now powerless, who scatter into the back of the cavern.

"Well, that was entertaining," you say as you stand up next to Boris. "Now what?"

As the old man taps on the glass like one might to a fish, Elder Grey turns around. "Now we send you to the site of the Witch Queen ritual."

"And how do you feel about this?" you ask the old man.

"The world is a more interesting place with a Witch Queen," he says. "Fret not about me. I've no attachments to the king or the country and no intention of selling you out."

"Good to know," you smile.

Faye pops up. "So, what was the deal with that demon, then?"

"The fruit of a long labor," the old man says.

Elder Grey walks up. "I apologize for never telling you. But the hags would have known."

"We spoke about other plans."

"But not this one," she says, pointing to the lantern held by her husband. "They knew I sought to get back at them, but did not know the means I intended. For a great many years now we have fooled them into thinking I wanted revenge upon the hags themselves and not the demon."

"And what was I in this? A pawn?"

"You could say that, or you could say the most important piece of all: the Queen. It was you that allowed me to convince them to get rid of their power, you who has a true chance at becoming the next Witch Queen. If not for you and your vengeant heart, we never would have retrieved the lantern or fooled them."

"But how could you have known all of this?" you ask.

Old Man Grey smiles. "We foresaw this. The witches did not because I know magic that can obscure the sight of certain future events!"

"Then, do you two not truly hate each other?"

The old man puts an arm around her. "How could I hate the woman that brought my daughter into this world?"

"You could appreciate my cooking more often," she grumbles. "You will do well at the competition, child. We know this."

"Are you not coming with me to the Black Gauntlet?"

"I would be of no help to you there, child. I could only deal with the Blackfeathers."

"And what of them? Won't they be expected?"

"You will be their respresentative, come to claim your place in the contest. That is all that matters. As for the ones who remain... I shall see to them."

"Right, because you're blind, I get it." They are both unamused. "So... What of the demon?"

"He'll make a good reading light," the old man chuckles, then shakes the lantern slightly to annoy the fire within.

"Won't he seek vengeance, since that's his entire thing?"

"Most certainly. But we can use that to our advantage at a later time. Right now, you must be sent to the competition."

"Right now?"

They both nod. They gather you, Faye, Francis and Boris up into the center of the cavern, where the fire once was. Elder Grey quickly prepares a sending ritual that will teleport you to the site of the Black Gauntlet.

"Wait, what's the process here? Who do I talk to when I get there?"

"The Council," she says. "Report to them! They will judge your worthiness."

"Wait!" you call out. "One last thing: What did Mordrax do to these hags to make them so angry?"

Elder Grey smiles. "He stole their hearts."

She cracks two small stone together, creating a spark that leaps to the ground. You find yourselves surrounded by a circle of fire that rises up and swirls into a vortex that carries you elsewhere. With a flourish of flames, you are no longer in the cave, but you are underground. Somewhere very, very far away.

You are in a cavern much larger than the last. A great temple is built into this place, intricate and frightening, with many buildings and tents erected around a central platform. You were summoned off to a side in a place of shadow, and when you step out into the light, you see a great many different kinds of people walking around and talking to each other: mages, druids, witches, of many races, sizes and shapes. Some keep to themselves, while others mingle. A kind of social area has been established, a lowered area of plush carpetting and pillows where mages sit, chat and drink.

You look up to the ceiling and see a great relief carved out of glowing runes, depicting that of a terrible woman seated upon a throne of dark power. This is the cavernous lair of the first Witch Queen, and the site of the Black Gauntlet.

"This looks like fun," Faye says with a wide smile.

"Keep an eye on these others," you tell your allies.

"Oh, I will," Francis squeaks, looking at two female mages.

You move through the area, careful to note a few things. The first are the robed figures. They move silently through the groups, serving drinks and food. They appear to have no affiliation to anyone else present, as they all look alike but do not bear any banner that matches the others who have come here to compete. You remember Elder Grey mentioning some kind of 'impartial' council -- could these be their servants?

Your question is answered when you reach the central raised platform. A group of robed figures with hoods stand in a circle around it. A woman passes you, having just been judged and accepted as a competitor. Now you approach them. All of them wear white robes, save for a woman who wears red, and she is the one who speaks.

"Step forth and be judged."

Entering the circle, you stand in the center. While many of the other competitors are busy either with their own magic or talking to each other, some look on.

"What group sends you?"

"I come from the lands of Dragodia, on behalf of the Blackfeathers."

"The hags of that old forest. You seem a bit young to be a hag."

"I am no hag," you reply.

"You think yourself worthy of the title of Witch Queen?"

"Far more worthy than any from that group."

"We shall see."

One of the robed figures approaches, and from his robes he produces a golden scale with two empty plates. The red one speaks. "Pluck a hair from your head, and place it upon the scale."

It seems harmless enough, and so you do. You delicately pull one out and place it on the scale, whereupon it lowers as though you had placed a rock in it. You cock a brow and look up as the red one asks, "Who are you?"

You place your hands on your hips.

"I am Sirena Le Doux, former apprentice of Mordrax."

A pregnant silence falls upon the room. Conversations seem to go quiet, then whispers follow. You swallow, somewhat nervously -- perhaps more people know about you than you'd like.

"There is a considerable bounty upon your head," the woman in red says. "High treason against the kingdom of Dragodia."

You swish your hair to one side and say, "That means nothing to me."

"I think you will find the others do not agree. You understand, of course, that the one who wins this contest will likely get the money for your bounty as well."

"Let them try," you say, perhaps a bit too loudly. "I'm sure I'm not the only one in this room with a price on their head."

"Just the largest," the woman replies. "Sirena Le Doux, this council recognizes your claim to the title of Witch Queen, which must be earned in blood. Take heed that until the games begin, you are not to harm or otherwise influence your fellow competitors. When the time comes, all will be summoned, taken to the battleground, and the Black Gauntlet shall only end when one remains."

The circle opens when two step aside to allow you to walk down. You leave the circle, where upon you are immediately approached by someone.

You are approached by a woman with dark hair and brown eyes, clad in a red and blue battlemage shirt and skirt. She carries a staff, as well as some other badges that indicate she is from the kingdom of the eastern men, Grailand.

She smiles condifently as she leans on her staff. "Sirena Le Doux. I don't know why I thought you might be here, but my instincts were right."

'It makes sense she would know me. Her country borders my own.' You face her fully and say, "You think those instincts serve you well in the battle?"

"My instincts have nothing to do with the battle. But I'll look forward to ending your life, claiming the title and the bounty on your head."

"There might be others you'll have to go through."

She scoffs. "Please. I only hope that I'm the first one to get to you so I can enjoy it. You know, I heard you did all sorts of things to get to be Mordrax's personal apprentice. I wonder, how many nights did he make you polish his wizard's staff?"

"Less nights than you've spent sucking on wands, I'm certain."

She smirk a haughty smirk. "If we had met under other circumstances, we might've been good friends, you know. A shame you're standing my way to my rightful title."

You smile and bat your eyelashes. "The feeling's mutual."

She turns her back to you and walks off, waving her hand. "Try not to die before I make you lick the blood off my shoes, dear."

As she walks off, other mages converse and occasionally look your way, Faye approaches you from behind. "Want a drink?" she asks, surprising you. "It's okay, it's not poison. I checked. These robe guys aren't trying to kill anybody."

Stepping off with Faye, you allow Francis to hop up onto your shoulder. "So, do you recognize any of these groups?"

"I see night elf lunar mages from the Circle of the New Moon, who plan to one day steal all light from the moon to fuel their magic."

"Will they succeed?"

"Probably not. See that girl with the grey skin and black eyes on that big red pillow over there?"

"Yes?"

"She's a revenant. Dead. From the mountain sanctuaries of the far, far east. Monks who give up their physical bodies and all sensation to hone their mind and mind alone."

"Dangerous?"

"Oh, very. I see a green elf over there from the isles of the Jade Shores, looks like a heartseeker shaman. She's the one with that dryad that looks like she's made out of rotting bark; from the Decayed. That girl with the pale skin off in the corner by herself, with the black robes and purple eyes? Shadow mage. There's a winter elf talking to a desert priestess; I'd call that threesome a song of ice and fire."

"Applicable information, please. What can I expect to see?"

"There's a lot of people here from a lot of different disciplines. I'd recommend, when this begins, to focus on one at a time and try not to get into group battles. I can't predict what kinds of magic will show up, but it will be a very big variety."

"Noted."

During this time, we can perfectly memorize and prepare ten spells without hope of failure (miscasting, forgetting words, etc.)

We can also store three daily spells into our ring of spell storing, effectively giving each we put in two uses.

You and Faye take your time to plan, and Francis prepares as well. In time, the horn is sounded; it echoes throughout the massive cavern and everyone walks up, prepared to be taken to the battleground.

"Competitors, step forth," the red robed one calls out. You, and roughly thirty others, all walk up to the central platform. "You are about to face the Black Gauntlet, the trial to become the next Witch Queen. You will all be taken to the battleground, placed randomly throughout. How you win is up to you, but the only way to win is by being the only one left alive. Know that each of you stands alongside those who will die. Show no mercy, for you will receive none in the end."

She summons a staff and waves it around. The platform on which you stand begins to glow.

"Now you shall be taken to the battleground, in the realm of Aran!"

Your eyes widen. 'Wait, the battle itself is to take place in another realm? But my new spell with Faye doesn't work across realms!'

"LET THE BLACK GAUNTLET... BEGIN!"

Before you can do anything, there is a great flash of light. You find yourself alone in a strange place. When you look up, you gasp.

You are in some kind of underground temple that more closely resembles a city. Everywhere you look are dark passages, towers, stairs and structures of strangely gothic architecture. The ceiling of this place cannot be glimpsed; it stretches up into darkness. The walls seem to glow with a kind of ethereal quality that is inconsistent in its strength, at times making places bright and obscuring others in shadow.

'I must rely on Francis finding a way to bring Faye into this realm, so she can teleport to me!' you think. 'But it may take some time...'

You make for the nearby passage and study your spellbook for your spell of darkvision, a very useful tool in a place like this. Taking out your orb and staff, you prepare for the coming battles, planning on remaining hidden until you can get a chance to pick some of your competition off. You know they are all out there looking for each other, and you.

'Damn! I wish I had known this battle would be in another realm. I would have had Faye and Boris with me on the platform then! I hope Francis pulls through... That little rat has to come to SOME use eventually.'

As you sneak through the halls, keeping quiet and remaining as stealthy as possible, you begin to hear the sounds of battle. Poking your head through a passage, you spot two of the others duking it out. A girl with demonic wings and horns with a pointed tail circles about a large, circular room with a domed ceiling as she throws fire spells at collections of bugs. You then spot a large, frightening insect monstrocity scaling one of the walls, who appears to be summoning them.

"I'm going to squash you like the bug you are!" the demon-girl cries with glee, hurling fireball after fireball at the small groups.

The bug-woman (at least, you assume it is female, it is competing to be a queen after all) speaks some alien language and summons larger, hornet-like insects that chase the winged girl around the room.

You hang back and observe. The battle seems fairly even, until the winter elf you glimpsed earlier runs in! She teams up with the demon, and together they both force the insect into retreat. The bug scuttles into a hole they cannot follow.

Now they are left only with each other. The demonic girl's hands glow with fire as the ice mage holds aloft her frozen staff. When they clash, fire and ice meet and the room quickly becomes steamy, but not in a good way. Their battle is ferocious, two elemental warriors hoping to overcome the other. The demonic girl breathes a torrent of fire onto an icy shield, which gives the ice mage time to prepare a hail of sharp icicles. The demon-girl barely dodges them by flying back with her wings.

Much like with the insect battle, it is too early to tell who may win -- it seems even.

You watch the battle for a short while, keeping yourself hidden with an illusion. The two continue duking it out, each never quite getting an advantage over the other until the winged girl closes the distance. Scoring a nasty strike with her claws, she draws the winter elf's blood. She steps over her and puts a boot on her neck, raising her claws up to strike her down, when the ice mage's trap is sprung; a large shard of ice, subtly collected on the ceiling, breaks and falls upon her, impaling her through the side.

The demon girl lets out a cry and flies upwards, retreating down one of the tunnels. The winter elf, wounded herself, does not pursue and seems to prepare some healing spells. She makes for another passage.

You push out of the swarm and run, leaving the elf behind. The bug seems to take notice, and though you hear the sounds of insects following you for some time, you eventually are lost by them.

Taking a moment to catch your breath, you crouch in the dark corridors and resume sneaking.

'This place could use something of a makeover...' you think as you pass through several nearly identical corridors.

A flash of light catches your eye. You look out a window into a massive courtyard of dead trees, lit by blue lanterns. There, four of the other mages are locked in battle!

A night elf blasts away with a lunar beam as a high elf creates a magical barrier that deflects it. This causes the beam to nearly hit the green elf, who conjures up some kind of totem that shoots fire at a gnoll, who commands one of her skeletal warriors to leap in front of it and take the hit. Nearby, the rotting dryad shoots forth vines that wrap around the night elf's feet and drag her backwards. This gives the high elf a chance to call forth a magical cage around the green elf, who teleports out and on top of her totem. The gnoll commands her skeletons to attack, but not before casting a spell upon them that buffs them and causes them to glow with a red aura.

You are entranced as the battle proceeds, amazed at the variety of spells being slung. The battle royale going on down below seems a bit too heavy for you to enter, however...

For a time, you wait and observe. The battle rages below, each mage duking it out with their incredible powers. You eventually move on, seeing no good opportunity to leap in or pick off a straggler. Every mage here is cunning and cautious, ensuring that they don't expose themselves too heavily.

You sneak on, ending up a great hall of many pillars. Upon hearing noises, you halt and hide. A group of five mages, with a seven-foot-tall amazon at their head. You clasp your hand over your mouth and control your breathing when you see that the woman from Grailand is among them!

'A temporary truce to hunt others?' you think. The five of them are sweeping through the room, leaving almost no place unturned. The shadow warrior, revenant and hobgoblin are with them, along with another human woman from the west.

The amazon pauses and holds up a hand, sniffing. "Search," she commands.

They close in, and you crouch low to the ground... before casting your spell from your ring, Spirit Rend! Suddenly all of them shout as the black vortex forms, tearing at their spirit and attacking their body, giving you a chance to take out your lamp and rub it.

Raniya appears, weapons at the ready, eyes darting around for only a moment. She leaps at the hobgoblin, landing alongside her and shoving her sword through her neck! The hobgoblin's eyes roll upwards as she dies.

The other mages begin to recover and attack as your genie goes for the revenant, who is martially trained as a monk, but the genie is quicker. The undead holds up her hands and conjures a shield in front of her, but Raniya teleports behind her and turns. With one slash, the undead girl's head falls from her body.

"DESTROY THEM!" the amazon shouts, charging at the genie. A warrior first, she is a much better warrior.

That leaves Sirena with the women from the east and the west on either side of her. They raise their hands and prepare to cast!

You forcefully push the western woman away with a spell while instantly resurrecting the hobgoblin. The corpse gets up and immediately lumbers towards your eastern rival. As your genie battles the amazon nearby in a dazzling display of strength against speed, you focus on the western woman and hurl an arcane bolt at her, firing it through your orb.

She manages to deflect it with a shield of force, creating a shower of sparks when it impacts. You and the westwoman exchange more spells back and forth. The amazon slams her spear onto the ground, conjuring up several primal spirits to attack your genie. An eagle swoops at her while a rhino charges; she deftly dodges both of them as she dances across the battlefield, catching your attention briefly.

'She is a good dancer after all,' you think.

You look back and catch a glimpse of the eastern girl running away from your hobgoblin zombie. You mentally command it to return and focus on the western woman, who conjures a small ball and throws it at the corpse. It lodges in her gut and then explodes outwards in a series of arcane spikes, cutting her in half. You take cover as the barrage hits nearby, almost cutting you as well.

Looking over at the revenant's corpse, you spend only a moment to resurrect it. She stands up, picking her head up and holding it in front of her. To your amusement, she then throws her own head at your foe, smacking her right in the forehead. She stumbles back, where your hobgoblin's upper torso grabs her, causing her to trip and fall.

As you prepare a spell to finish her off, she casts a sudden retreat and teleports away in a blink of light.

'Damn,' you think. Your revenant retrieves her head as the hobgoblin tries to grab her legs and reattach them futilely.

You look back and see your genie battling the amazon, the only one of the group whose pride will not allow her to run away. She battles fiercely, drawing on the strength of her animal spirit allies and the totem she wears about her neck. Ultimately, however, she falls.

Your genie leaps upon her spear as the Amazon thrusts and dives forward, managing to stab her in the neck. The amazon's eyes go wide and she stumbles back as your genie backflips off of her weapon when she lets go of it. The spear clatters to the floor as your servant deftly lands alongside it. The amazon lumbers backwards and falls.

True to her word, the genie walks up and gives her a quick death for having fought honorably, stabbing her in the heart. She wipes her blades clean, turns towards you, and bows.

You smile. Five came at you, and three died. You like your odds.

You gather up (or rather, your minions gather up) the corpses and their pieces and you find a secluded area. From here you work to resurrect the amazon and sitch the hobgoblin back together. After sending the genie back into her lamp and promising her more battle to come, you take the head of the revenant and perform a small ritual to capture her soul and place it back into her head while you retain control of her body.

"What? Why have you returned me?" she demands to know.

"You're my servant now. I killed you, again technically, and your body is my property now. But I wanted to know why you teamed up with the others."

"I'll never tell you."

"You don't have to," you reply, placing a hand on her grey forehead. You close your eyes and begin sucking knowledge from her brain. You don't have long, so you just suck absorb recent memories.

'Well, no wonder they teamed up. One of the competitors is a fucking dragon. A red dragon, no less.' You take your hand off her forehead.

"Don't do that again!" she demands.

"You're not in a position to demand anything," you warn her. "And I am in a position to grant nothing. So, if you want to maintain your identity, you'll do as I say."

She scowls. "Fine. But I want my body back."

"Only when I have determined I can trust you enough to keep it. Certainly not for the rest of this contest." You allow her body to hold her under one arm as you go back to tending to the newly-stitched hobgoblin.

"Do you truly think you can win?" the revenant asks.

"Did you?" you smirk. "It was a nice try, lady. But I came more prepared."

"We shall see how prepared you are. There are others who yet remain."

"And they're all busy killing each other so I'm not too worried at the moment."

Nothing we can't quickly patch up with a couple minutes' rest. That said, it's hard to say how quickly the gauntlet is progressing and how quickly the herd is thinning.
>>
>>1212430
I'd expect half the crowd to disappear in the first 30 minutes. The next quarter in the hour or so afterwards, and the rest slowly over the course of a day or two. The survivors would be increasingly cagey, paranoid, and very capable, with a large area to lose each other in it could come down to a drawn out siege without external influence.

>>
>>1212449

These are the only 'easy' ways at least.
I think our best bet on the more direct path is to have our zombies and genie wound it so we can life drain it to the ground. Though we'd be much better off trapping it somehow.

Reds do have a strong fondness for treasure, that might be a good way to bait it. Otherwise treat it like female Smaug, flattery will get you everywhere, but one bad dice roll and it's sudden searing pain before poof.

We just need to figure out who it is, it might be that fire theory we saw earlier.
>>
>>1212520
>flattery will get you everywhere
Are you talking about persuading her to let us live, or just to buy time?
Because the rules of the contest make the former kinda impossible.

Regardless of how we kill her, we definitely need to capture her soul and change her name to calcifer.
