This is Boruto Quest, a quest set in the universe of Naruto. It is during the generation of Naruto's son after everyone has graduated from their Genin exam. I haven't kept up with the series beyond the end of the original one, so this one is intended to recapture the feel of that time of Naruto. I will not be incorporating the main show or the Boruto movie's plot into the quest, although some recognizable characters will be present. You play as a 12 year old Chunin named Takeshi. You have been assigned a Jounin squad leader named Hanto, and your two squadmates are Kichiro, a young delinquent, and Ai, a strange social outcast of a girl. You are of average skill in most aspects, although your sharp intelligence, and your jack of all trades skill set have brought you far. You're a Chunin of notable talent for your age. You're speaking with Naruto at the moment.

"I'd like to go on a mission with Shikadai, if I could."

Naruto looks down at some papers, and mumbles to himself for a few seconds before responding. "Oh! Yeah, right, yeah that sounds great. I think for his first mission as a Chunin, Shikadai would like to go with you anyways. You two are a serious tactical duo in terms of support. After meeting with the Mist, I determined that there was some hotspot areas that they were going to need help with."

He keeps looking down at the papers, his eyes shifting from one to the next. All around you, the clones keep working.

"Just how bad is it over there, Lord Hokage?"

He swallows, and sets his work down. The Hokage looks up and wonders. "Takeshi..All my life, the problems I faced seemed so clear cut compared to this. Most, anyways. I remember when I was little, on my first big mission when I visited the Mist. Then, the people were as poor as they are now. After all the fighting, after all the death and the.."

A tear breaks down his face, but he wipes it off right away. Around him, the clones keep their composure and never stop. "I gotta wonder. Are the friends I made then, even still alive? These cultists, they seem like they've cut all ties, all their bonds, for the sake of something so petty and impersonal. The rebels who fight against the Mist, if they had been misled before, now they believe in their cause completely. I know the Mizukage. He doesn't want to kill his own damn people!! He knows better than anyone what a bloody history we've made to get to this point! If I didn't have all this work, if I wasn't needed here, I'd be there!"

Naruto looks up at you, the paperwork in his hands crumpled from the fists he's made. "How?! How can people be losing faith so quickly?? I won't say that I didn't think the world was done with war, but..people are killing each other over nothing but greed. This Shozuku..I know he's a boy from our village. I knew his real parents when they were alive!! They loved this country, and the people in it! If we could just show him, show him there's a home for him, then maybe he'd give all this up. Heh-I don't mean to put all of this on you, suddenly, but you're more involved with it than almost any Chunin. More than anyone from your generation, you've fought these people time and time again. Why do you think he fights? Pits people against each other? Steals people from their families, their homes!?"

"His mind, I don't think we can understand how it works anymore. He's gone too far, seen to much.

He sees people as things to overcome, he wants power for power's sake. I don't think he battles for any real reason then for the bloodshed itself. I don't know what could have happened to him, but he has the eyes of a predator now.

Maybe he can be changed, maybe not. Either way, we need to stop him before worrying about that."

I think, I think He's broken Naruto. Sometimes a person is so.... warped that they become monstrous. Look at Orochimaru and his desire to be "great" and an immortal *at this point Takeshi suppresses a shudder* despite being a Sannin already. Or Danzo, who despite being contemporaries with the Many great ninja, was only and ever concerned with increasing his own power and shaping the leaf how he desired. He doomed a clan because of spite for their bloodline. There is some desire that twisted him to this, to make him think this is the only way. I mean, if he's anything like his sister, it wouldn't take much, even though I consider Ai is a friend, she's always been awkward and bad with people. I do not know what is driving him, but he's not like the other Jashinists. He's driven, they are lazy. He works to perfect his skills, they let theirs immortality be a crutch. I do not know why he fights, but I do know why he turns people against each other. For his cultists? Its a test, both of loyalty to him or their dreams and fears over their family. For everyone else? It's how he spreads, the more blood and strife their is, the more people will look for vengeance and easy ways to attain it. A world united would destroy him, a world divided gives him a thousand ways to work.

And to repost someone else
I also just want to add my psycho-analysis of anti-christ.

He wants everyone to have the power to stay alive in the face of all of the nukes that are walking around. He wasn't born to have his own nukes, but he did it his own way, and now he wants to share that way with as many people as will listen.

He also has a huge inferiority complex, which is why he's so intent on facing people one on one. He cares more about proving that he can hang with the strongest than anything else. And because he also spreads a philosophy, he also wants that philosophy to be proven right, too. He is still a scared little child who acts like he wants to be brave, but really just wants someone else to be strong for him. Ai is our best chance if we can get her to be a protective older sister.

We also need to tell Naruto about how Mitsuki needs to stay with Sarada for now, because Oro won't touch her while she is around him.
>>
>>1200042
Some people are just broken inside sir. They were born to hate, and fight only for the sake of winning. Not everyone is a victim of circumstance, and after fighting against him I know that even if everything went his way, he'd be no more vile than he is now. He's a sickness that wishes to destroy everything we stand for, just because he can. He's a disease that uses peoples desire for change to corrupt the trust we have in the ways of peace. He's a cancer sir, and I plan to do everything I can to cut him out. Things may fall apart but as long as the will of fire burns in the heart of its people, we will push forward and grow ever brighter for it.
I know based on analysis from the other thread this isn't complete true, but from Takeshi's perspective Shozuku is just a monster with a lust for battle, and the leader of a philosophy that only exists to destroy the order his fellow ninjas fought for there whole lives.

>>1200042
>I think he's like me, he picked his course and never looked back. His resolve is unbreakable and he's never considered changing it. The difference is that he wants to get stronger to make the world what he wants, something violent and chaotic.

"From what I can see he is simply a monster with simple motivations. Thats what I gathered from fighting him, however I would need more information to come to a complete understanding of his psyche.

Unequivocally, the important thing for the moment is stopping him by any means neccisary.

Thats my take on it"

Takeshi the pragmatist.

If we're talking about the leader, I believe he has an inferiority complex, which is why he's so intent on facing people one on one. He cares more about proving that he can hang with the strongest than anything else, and because he also spreads a philosophy, he also wants that philosophy to be proven right, too. He is still a scared little child who acts like he wants to be brave, but really just wants someone else to be strong for him. If we're talking about the people... Well there's your answer. They're people. People tend to need to learn thought experience, and no matter what a previous generation has gone through, everyone can't impart their own experiences perfectly. People react to the world around them, not stories of how it used to be most of the time. You've seen some horrible things I'm sure, but you aren't everyone. People are inherently violent but... they're inherently kind as well. They just need something to kick them in gear. A lot of the time that's how wars start and end. This probably could've all been prevented, but the thing is it wouldn't have. People try to learn from the past, but they can't account for everything, but at the same time there has to be a solution or everything falls apart. So they make quick solutions that work for now, but screw over others later. Than they eventually fix those, but new problems warise and the cycle starts again. I'm fairly certain that's the why. How to fix it... I don't know.

"I really get the feeling he's just sort of broken. He got put through and saw so much, that he'd never be the same again if he just tried to live a normal life. He might just be scared of getting hurt, so he's not only shutting himself out from the world, he's intending to destroy everything and everyone in it. Whenever I've fought him, he's made a point of cutting down my tactics and facing me one on one. It's like he's got some sort of complex where he needs to prove to himself he can beat anyone. It seems to me that he's got to be stopped. I don't know if someone like that could ever be redeemed. I'll do my best to stop him, Lord Hokage!"

You feel rather fired up, having seen your leader allow a bit of emotional vulnerability. You know how much this entire situation is hurting not only him, but people all over the world.

"He's made his choice, and I don't believe he'll ever look back from it. From everything that I've seen of him, he's telling us that he's willing to go all the way for the sake of lashing out against the world."

Naruto sighs deeply, relaxing as he listens. "I think almost anyone can be redeemed, so we should at the very least try. You're probably right, though. He was just too young. He doesn't have any sort of special bond that might be able to pull him back. Even Ai, his twin sister, he barely knows."

He chuckles, and looks up at you with tired eyes. "That was a pretty spot on assessment. You really seem to get people, huh?"

You shrug. "He's a little bit like me, almost. I just want to make the world a better place, while he wants to tear it down. A simple motivation can sometimes be the strongest one."

Naruto nods. "That's the truth for sure. Well, you're dismissed. Thanks for listening, and for your input."

You head out, and prepare for your journey to the Owl Village.

Is there anywhere you'd like to go in the village before you leave for a few days?

Personally id rather not have a timeskip, or at least do a breif kind of overview of how we spend our time.

You exit the Hokage's office, another heavy stone placed upon your back. Lately, you feel as though you've been gathering strength for your future. Back when you were preparing for the Chunin Exams, only one thing was on your mind. The opponents in front of you, and how you were going to beat them. But now that you've been a Chunin for quite a while, you've started to consider so much more than that. The reasons people fight, the reasons why you fight, the limitations you face every day, and how you'll ultimately overcome them.

There's also the strong feelings of the people around you. Kichiro, Ai, Naruto, Hanto, and even your enemy Shozuku. Each one of them is carrying the weight of a dream that means everything, and you can't let yourself get beaten out in this department either. When you say you wanted to be the best, you originally only considered what that meant for yourself.

Swinging open the front doors of the building, you look out at the entire Leaf Village in broad daylight. Now, when you say you want to be the best, it's not just for you. It's for your brother, it's for Takkun, it's for Ollie Chan, Usagi, and all the others who are fighting just to keep pace in this way of life.

You break out into a run, and go around letting your friends know that you're going to be gone for a few days. You're sure to stop and stock up on more equipment, and also decide to head towards the Academy. You check out a book on Boil release as well, with the intentions of reading it as you travel.
>>
>>1200423

Though your brother isn't home, you're sure to leave a note in his bedroom letting him know where you're going. Rushing out the village gates, you start the journey towards the hillside near the border of the Mist and Leaf.

On the way there, whenever you make camp, you look into the book on Boil release. It's described as something that's potentially one of the most destructive styles there is. It's quite scary to see something get broken down on a chemical level, but these same chemicals are the ones that also allow life itself to exist. The adrenaline in your body, the salt to preserve your food, the feelings of love you have for your country and friends. It's all attributed to the playing out of chemical reactions. Thinking on it, it only serves to further highlight the distance between you and Shozuku. Deep inside, you resolve to master Boil release. In this way, you'd be showing him even more that your way of life isn't wrong, and that there is good in the world.

When you find time, you attempt to practice molding water chakra and fire chakra together. Of course, you get absolutely no where. Failing at this, you resolve to simply keep working on your Fire Jutsu instead.

By the time you arrive to the Owl Village, on Kageyama's back, you're already a little tired from your personal training. The village is just as amazing your second visit as the first. The large circular platforms and hollow trees house an innumerable amount of owls of all different sizes and species. Danpei sweeps down, and lands in front of you. His eyes light up, smiling as much as an owl can. "Howdy, kid. I suppose you've accepted the invitation for some more training, eh? Kong Fu is sleeping right now, but he'll be up once the sun goes down. For now I can show you around our library. What were you hoping to look into?"

Danpei hops along, and leads you into one of the numerous hollow trees around you. Inside there's a series of shelves all housing various scrolls, and a large group of owls are constantly flying in and out. They seem to be bringing in various sorts of scrolls, though you're not entirely sure they were legally obtained.

"Where do you guys get all this stuff? I don't guess many of you can write."

The barn owl in front of you is looking at the grid pattern in the shelves, possibly considering what might be good for you to learn today. "You're right. It's a bit difficult, lacking the fingers and all. Instead we have a network of messengers to find any loose material and bring it here. We take our time to preserve the scrolls, and over the millennia we've gathered a huge volume of work. This might be the largest library in the world, or so says Kong Fu. Of course, with this method of finding information, we're a little limited. There's few extremely high level jutsu except for what our leaders know by tradition. Hey, by the way, what are you interested in? We've got a little bit of everything, but our preferred style is non-elemental Ninjutsu, sealing jutsu, and Genjutsu."

You consider that you could stand to learn a couple more higher level Genjutsu. "I wanna work on my illusions, if that's okay. I've been making use of several lower level ones, but if I were to learn one that's more powerful I could really get an edge on the Jashinists."

Danpei's head spins all the way around, to look at you with a cocked eye. "Ah, I see. You're dealing with those nuts, huh? Never thought they'd be back again. Jashinism was a bigger problem thousands of years ago, so it's hard to believe it's making a resurgence in the modern world."

His head goes back into place, and he flies up to the shelves and starts tossing down several scrolls of different sizes.
"Look through these and pick one! We'll start teaching ya'!"

>A. Spoken Word Genjutsu: With the sound of your voice, put someone into a highly suggestible state. You could alter their opinions or thoughts, but strong wills will be able to resist. Short range, they must be able to hear your normal speaking voice clearly.
>B. Leaf Style Willow: After handsigns, by waving your arm, an opponent will begin to see multiple illusory copies of the weapon you're holding. This technique only lasts a brief moment, but it can be used to disorient and catch someone off guard.
>C. Sly Mind Affect: This Genjutsu can fool someone into exhausting themselves by causing them to travel in circles, when they feel like they're making progress. It's fairly simple, but could also be used to drain stamina from a party of enemy shinobi and make them easy prey.
>D. Uknown Fire. By pointing at someone after preforming handsigns, a purple wave of energy will fire from your finger. If the enemy is struck, they will see themselves suddenly surrounded by a ring of blue flames. The pain of the technique feels real, and if the opponent is frightened enough, it can cause them to pass out.

You hold up a bluish tinted scroll, and read the contents with wonder. "Hey, this one seems really useful! I've been learning some Fire Style lately, and it'd go great with this move."

Danpei nods from atop the shelf. You notice that several baby owls have started hopping on top of your head, and making hooting noises. All around you the animals seem to be largely captured by your presence, though it's also clear they're trying to focus on their work.

The barn owl calls out. "Alrighty then! Go out to the center platform, and get to work. Someone'll be showing up to help out until Kong Fu wakes up."

Stepping outside again, you notice that the sun is starting to go down through the trees. Orange beams of light highlight the circular wooden platform. You open up the scroll and kneel down. It tells you about how you have to mold the chakra of the jutsu before you fire it, meaning if you miss the cost will be completely wasted. On the inverse, if you can hit, the effects will be instantaneous with no further input on your part needed. You can even use other Genjutsu after using this one without breaking it, though you still can't stack the effects of different Genjutsu on a single person. You more or less load the energy into your finger like Anzu's chakra powered gun.

As you're reading, a browl owl with white spots all over it's body lands next to you. It's smaller than Danpei, and look as if it could comfortably rest on your shoulder. You look up, and grin. "Hi."

"Watcha readin'?" a playful, feminine voice says. It's sort of odd coming from an owl. You smile. "It's a scroll on a fire-based Genjutsu. Are you the one who's gonna help me learn it?"

She nods. "My name's Sachi. I'm about fifty years old, I think. I really stopped counting a while ago, so could be more, could be less. I hope little Danpei hasn't made you think we're all crass animals!"

You shake your head. "He's been nothing but helpful, hehehe. Will I be seeing you on the battlefield, if you don't mind me asking?"

Sachi scratches her beak with her wing. "Hmm, I do like ninja who use Genjutsu. It's what I use the most, after all. My best ability is my skill as a sensor, though. I'll cost a bit more chakra to summon than Danpei, for that reason."

You nod. "Well, maybe sometime soon I'll need your help. I mean, aside from now. Do you think you'd be willing to be my practice target for now?"

She flies over to the far edge of the platform. "Go ahead and try it out on me! I can cancel it before it actually starts to hurt, so I'll be fine."
>>
>>1200763

Over the next couple of hours, you master Unknown Fire with her help. By the time the colossal Kong Fu awakens, you've already got everything nailed down. You're rather exhausted in terms of chakra, however. Partially from your work before even arriving here, and partially from this being a B ranked Genjutsu. It takes a high amount of concentration to use consistently.

Kong Fu, the giant black and white owl chuckles with a deep and smooth voice. "That technique is rather useful. I like to use it myself, while hunting cattle. They get so scared by the sight of fire they pass out right away. Makes everything painless."

Sachi, also tired, hops over. "Speaking of which, I'm starving! I'm gonna go find a snack now that Fu's here. Nice meeting you, Takeshi!"

You wave her off as she flies away. "You too! Thanks for the help!"

Fu's discerning eyes glare down at you. "You seem as if you're adjusting quite well to this little circle of ours. Tell me, what do you think of our village? Our way of life?"

"Well, you guys have been here for so long that you've certainly got a unique perspective on human history."

He makes a slight "Mm." noise, and you catch yourself. It's strange not to think of them as people, though it's clear that they believe all life is important. Not just human life. You grin sheepishly. "Sorry. I don't mean that in a bad way, just, since I'm a human that's how I think of it."

There's a twinkle in his eyes, and you think Kong Fu might be pleased. "No need to excuse yourself. This is what you were raised to believe, after all. If our species had been raised to think we were the most important, we would also think the same."

You nod, understanding what he means. "So, how did you guys come to be here, anyways? I mean, agree on this way of life."

Fu ponders your question for a few long moments. "The ancient white owl brought us together. Though I am the acting leader of our clan, he is it's true father and master. The White Sage Owl possesses jutsu and secrets far beyond mortal comprehension. He spends all of his life in a meditative state, patrolling the world as an astral projection. This is how we locate pertinent information, and quickly round up anything we see as dangerous. He has keen powers of memorization, and despite having a life as long as history itself, it is said that he remembers every second of his existence. The most forbidden scrolls are burned, but if we ever have a need of their knowledge, we will call upon the sage."

This is all sort of nebulous, and difficult for you to wrap your mind around. "Wow! If Sachi's already lost count of her age, he must have no idea."

Fu chuckles. "Despite your maturity, you are still indeed a hatching. I'm sure the full context of what I've told you will sink in over time. Anyways, to answer your question, we simply have faith in the White Sage's belief that some knowledge is ultimately too dangerous for the world to be trusted with. Wouldn't you agree?"

Thinking back, you consider terrible jutsu that the Jashinists possess. Twisted rituals, and summoning the dead. Looking over the edge of the wooden platform, down at the black forest, you nod. "Yeah, I can see that. There are some jutsu that just shouldn't exist."

In front of you, a pure white owl lands. You're reasonably surprised. "Is that him??"

Fu shakes his head. "That's one of his many projections. He must be here to tell us something. What is it, Master?"

Fu leans down, his neck extending so he can get a look into the projection's solid black eyes. You're kind of amazed how long his neck actually is. You can certainly imagine how he'd easily be able to swallow cattle in one go.

The projection of the White Sage points at you with a wing. Then, it suddenly flaps both of it's wings open in a wide motion.

Fu looks over. "He says that the Hokage is about to call you back. Is there anything you'd like to ask me before you go?"

"Just one. How are you all getting the syllables right, with having beaks and stuff? It doesn't really make sense, but it's pretty cool."

Fu narrows his eyes. He straightens up, and looks down at you with what initially seems to be annoyance. After a long, awkward pause, he answers. "I...I don't know. Perhaps it's some sort of..passive.."

You keep looking up at him with a big grin.

He huffs, and flies away. The giant blast of wind nearly knocks you off your feet, and you can hear his wings beating against the air far into the distance like a set of heavy drums.

Looking up at the trees, you can't see the night sky from here. In fact, it's incredibly dark at this point. The sounds of hooting owls can be heard all over, but other than that the only noise is the swaying branches being pushed by the wind.

As you're enraptured by the scenery, you suddenly feel a warmth in your pocket. The seal Naruto gave you must be activating!

Suddenly, in a puff of smoke, you find yourself standing in Naruto's office. To your left, is Ai and Kichiro. To your right is Shikadai.

"Hey, guys!" you say. "I've been hanging out with Owls."

Kichiro pinches his nose. "You sure smell like it. You've been roughing it, huh?"

You chuckle, and nod. Shikadai grins. "I didn't know you had a summon animal, too. Owls seem pretty fitting for you."

Looking over to him, you nod in agreement. "They seem to like me."

Kichiro scoffs. "Maybe on this mission I'll get to show you my summoning contract! I got to meet with them last week! I won't spoil the surprise just yet, but they're a pretty cool bunch.."

Ai blinks. "Why am I the only one without a summoning contract..?" At this, Naruto stands up. "H-heh, well, I thought Kakashi mentioned this. It's not that you're not skilled enough, but rather, it takes a certain..."

She stares at the Hokage blankly. Naruto rubs the back of his head, and his face turns a pinkish shade. Could it be this little girl makes him nervous? He continues. "Well, social skills! Remember how I mentioned they were important to a ninja, too? I think once you make some progress in that area you'd be ready!"

She puts a finger to her chin, and considers this. "I see."

Ai reaches into her pack, and pulls out a magazine titled 'Meeting People' and starts to flip through it.

Kichiro steps forward. "Alright, that's enough! We've been waiting for like, forty-"

Shikadai interrupts him. "Ten minutes. We've been here for ten minutes."

Kichiro stutters for a moment, before taking another step forward. "Whatever! We're all here and ready, what's the mission??"

Naruto sighs. "This group has way too much attitude. Listen, I'm sending you all on a mission that's going to target a Jashinist lead we have. In a city in the land of Mist, there's a building that's used to host nightly dance club sessions. We've got good reason to believe there's a large amount of illegal activity taking place, primarily the abduction of innocents, drug trafficking, and recruitment for Jashinists. They seem to acquire the bulk of their soldiers through impressionable youth, and they're willing to use any method available to gather them. We want you to investigate, and if at all possible, capture the recruiters. Any questions?

"Will we have any support from the Mist? Do they know we're coming?"

Naruto nods. "The border guards will give you proper directions to the city. Unfortunately, the area of the city you're heading to is completely under rebel control. We've got some basic information the building, but the name used for the owner is pretty clearly fake. Considering the current situation, the reason we've been hired is because we can act as an investigative force without agitating the current political situation. If the Mist started searching clubs, they'd get vilified pretty quickly. They're in a sensitive position where they can do little but actively defend, lest they get demonized."

"Do you think this could be a legitimate base for any of their more elite soldiers?"

Naruto shakes his head. "There'll probably be a couple in charge there, a recruiter and maybe someone else. Other than that, we believe this is largely an operation focused around assembling grunts. Possibly looking out for any destitute rogue ninja, who might have lost faith in the Mist. You'll have to be on the lookout for any rebels, as well. Though, they have the interest of the common people in mind, generally. Remember, though they're also a guerrilla group like the Jashinists, they've only attacked military installations. Try to prevent any civilian injury or death you can."

You bow. "Yes, Lord Hokage."

The four of you exit the building, and go on your way to the Mist. Since it's already night, you stop and make camp a couple hours into your journey. You're exhausted from all the training, and your team mates load you up with questions about the Owl City. You tell them what you think would be appropriate, keeping the knowledge of the White Owl to yourself. Mostly you tell them about how intimidating Kong Fu is.

Is there anything you'd like to speak to your team mates about, before heading to sleep?

I imagine other anons have asked this question many times and I apologize for asking it again. How can someone learn to use a kekkei genkai when canonically you have to be born with it? Is MIniseriesAnon using quest master fiat or is there a Macguffin that enables it or something else?

I can't wait for the ultimate keikaku double-fakeout paralysis technique where we have a clone throw down a bell like it's doing the paralysis jutsu, then Shikadai uses the shadow possession through the wire to make it look real. This tricks everyone into thinking the water clone is really us, until we attack from ambush after doing a REAL paralysing bell.

Plus, this team has wind, water, fire, and lightning in addition to shadow style and genjutu. The possibilities for combo bullshit are crazy.

Yes and no. Yamato was the only test tube baby out of sixty that survived infancy and didn't have full use of the Wood release. Orochimaru, Madara, and Obito all had to be raised from the dead with either Zetsu grafts or Hashirama's goddamn face on their pectoral. Danzo only had basic use of the Wood release and when his arm was damaged it manifested super-tree-cancer and almost killed him. So yeah, you can get a full kekkei genkai that you weren't born with, but there are massive sacrifices involved.

>Dear god i hope we're playing as Kon's Kid
I didn't think that Kon had a kid. If he does their name had better begin with a letter besides a K or a T.
>>
>>1201392
Kabuto couldn't use the release himself, at all. He only enabled others to use it through Zetsu grafting or Hashirama's-face-grafting. And when did Madara acquire the Wood release independent of his resurrection? I don't remember that at all.
>>
>>1201431
I thought he stated that he did at some point; pretty sure he grew the umbilical between himself and the statue, the lotus the statue was on, and Hashirama's Living Clone though.

And I was talking about Sakon & Ukon's kekkei genkai and Shikotsumyaku with Kabuto.
>>
The four of you sit around the campfire. Kichiro keeps poking at it with a stick, adjusting the logs so they burn evenly.

"So how have you been, Shikadai? Congratulations on becoming a Chunin, by the way. Was the exam any easier the second time?"

He nods. "It was, actually. All the big names were still pretty troublesome, but my whole squad has improved monumentally. The addition of a giant fan and the summoning jutsu gave us the firepower we needed to keep others in check. I don't mean to brag, too much, but I think we're one of the top squads. It's a shame my team wasn't able to make it to the finals. Even after growing so strong, the competition is way too serious.."

Ai grins, ever so slightly. "Me and Kichiro believe we made a tactical choice in avoiding this round of the exams. Next time there'll be less considerable forces to deal with."

Your buddy nods. "That's right. Gives us even more time to prepare, too. We both lost to Sarada last time, and now that she's not involved it'll be easy! Sharingan is bullshit, man."

You smile. "How about you two? Everything going good? I noticed you were reading that meeting people magazine, Ai."

Kichiro snickers. "Yeah, I think she's looking for a boyfriend or something."

Ai doesn't even skip a beat, electing to ignore him. "Lord Hokage and Kakashi Sensei suggested it, considering that social skills are an important part of being a shinobi. You've proved that through being friendly you can acquire various helpful connections, as well as learning elements of persuasion."

Shikadai sighs. "You'll have to learn to speak in a bit less of a wooden fashion. You won't be able to treat socializing like any other jutsu."

She blinks. "Why not?"

You scratch your cheek. "Uh, well, there's a lot of nuance to it. It's not really something that anyone completely masters, I don't think. Get good at certain aspects, for sure. I'm pretty friendly, but Kichiro's real good at intimidation."

Ai looks into the fire. "I see. Like a specialization..I'll have to consider this overnight."

"What about you, Kichiro?"
>>
>>1201472

He crosses his arms. "Well, now that I'm better I've been putting major work into my training. Learning the summoning jutsu was probably the biggest one. Like I said, I'll give you all a chance to be amazed tomorrow."

Shikadai continues, after being quiet for a few minutes. "I was thinking we should get some pre-planned strategies in order. Kichiro, you and my Wind jutsu in combination would be pretty powerful. Same thing for Ai and Takeshi's water. We're also pretty good at stunning the enemy. Takeshi, if you can get your bells to work, I'll be given a free shot for one of my Shadow Paralysis techniques. Doing that in tandem with Interrogation means we'll be able to take anyone out alive. We'll have to try and be as sneaky as possible, considering that this mission is largely going to take place indoors. How are your owls for scouting?"

You give a thumbs up. "Great. I can summon one to keep watch on the outside for us, if any enemy reinforcements come."

He smiles. "Just what I was thinking."

---

That's all for tonight folks. More strategies will be considered next thread, and the mission will truly start. I'll be here to answer questions for a bit.

>onsidering that social skills are an important part of being a shinobi. You've proved that through being friendly you can acquire various helpful connections, as well as learning elements of persuasion."
>Shikadai sighs. "You'll have to learn to speak in a bit less of a wooden fashion.

Mini, if you kill Ai once she's socially adjusted and replace her with another Ai, I swear to God. What's Ai's last name anyway? Reianami?
>>
>>1201492
>He's a Perfect Sage
That's not a formal term in the series and Kabuto's use of Jugo's kekkei genkei is actually what enables him to move around while staying in sage mode. It enables his bullshit.
>>
>>1201524
So he doesn't need batteries, that makes sense. And they didn't have him just use Wood Style because every villain after him uses it.
>>
>>1201518
I haven't come up with last names for much of the cast.
>>

Thanks for the good thread as usual Mini. And thanks for an excuse to shelve my current slog of a quest and pick FNQ back up sooner. Actually, I hate to ask, but do you have any advice for what to do when you're running a quest and it starts feeling like a chore?

I wonder what would be most interesting. Comedy could work, but that's kinda Sai's thing. Though he mostly did insult comedy.

Leave for months at a time with no word.

But really, I'd say just try to vary things up if you can. It's not too bad taking short breaks, either.

Part of the reason why I'm running The Fighting Quest is so that I'm totally fresh in terms of running Naruto when I go into part 2. What specifically has you bogged down about running?

I know that if I don't have some sort of specific goal in mind, I can feel overwhelmed by the lack of progress. Dislike running a lot, without actually getting anywhere.
>>
>>1201591
I really don't need more introspection at this point anon.

>>1201619
>What specifically has you bogged down about running?
It's slowed down a little, but I'm just not having a lot of fun running it, and I don't like what I've created. Even the source material isn't that enjoyable anymore.

I wish I could leave for months on end without word, but there are other things I want to do. I just feel like it's stunting me as a QM.
>>
>>1201646
Probably best to start seeking an ending then, even if it might not be entirely satisfactory.

I think having some form of ending would be better than just leaving things as they are, personally.
>>
>>1201649
It's certainly a solution, thanks for the advice.

I'll probably be back in March then.

>>1201969
If you're planning on some art I'd also like some Shozuku.

Compare and contrast with Shozuku and Takeshi could be a good exercise. Different versions of a very similar looking character.

I'll be happy with anything though. I'm out, night anons

Look at this face, now imagine this face in a leaf ninja chunin garb and giving a friendly smile with a friendly wave of the hand. (And holding senbons with bells hanging from strings in the other, slightly less noticeable.) For shozoku, shorter black hair, same face. More hostile expression and eyes. I'm not sure about his clothes, but more rugged and he has a katana.

Thanks for offering to do some art, even if you don't take this suggestion, I've been waiting for some time for someone to give this quest the fanart it deserves.

And I was already thinking about art like this in my head before the thread
>>
Well, if the Naruto QMs are going to be dead, maybe I should make a Naruto quest...
I might get more players this way

i want to draw takeshi but am not home to get my drawing tablet sadly
>>
>>1203434
thank you anon, glad you have enjoyed it!
>>
>>1202704

Go for it.
>>
>>1203434
Not trash talking so much as trying to corner the market on Naruto, however brief that window may be.
>>
>>1202704
I'd only say go for it if you've got a pretty novel idea for the whole thing. People are sort of over-saturated to this idea in general I imagine
>>
>>1204076
Seconded. There's been a fuckton of Naruto quests, unless you can put a good spin on it, it won't be very distinct.

Mini does well playing a character that ain't prodigy bloodline mcgee.
>>
I always imagined Shozuku's main defining feature to differentiate him from Takeshi was dark circles around his eyes. Not like tired circles, just dark circles if anyone wanted more unsolicited opinions on a character's design for their art
>>
>>1204076
yeah, at this point you need something special. Boruto is still the best of the lot imo.
>>

>>
>>1203434
You could try a One Piece quest. The last one I was reading cancelled. Or bring back those RE: quests. Overlord is always a good anime to quest in. There are a lot of choices
>>
mini is the time skip gonna be like our training for the exams where we picked what we want to train or did you have something else in mind, like you make it a thread where our choices to fix a problem determines what we train up?
>>
>>1204202
It's gonna be an A or B choice.

Two masters, you'll get to pick one of them. There'll also be three other ninja who are going with you, but who they are depends on which master you choose.

>A. Naruto, Mari, Sarada, and Kichiro
>B. Sasuke, Ai, Boruto, and Roku

these are your choices. Who you go with will determine the types of stat bonuses and jutsu you learn over the 2.5 year gap.
>>
>>1204257
Waifus or Bros
Tough choice
>>
>>1204185
I would love an overlord quest, maybe not start out as over powered as Ainz but even if we did I would still read it
>>
>>1204291
mini is tearing me apart
>>
>>1204291
honestly Sasuke is more our style.
>>
>>1204332

>>
>>1204339
If you don't bort will be spending 3 years with Ai
>>
>>1204257
God that's tough. Gonna have to go Sasuke on this.
>>
>>1204257
My like for Ai is is not as much as my dislike for Bort and Sausage. Roku's meh. Nalt's fine, I kinda like Sarada(think she could use some more character development), really like Mari and Kichi. Pros and cons, I'd like B.
>>
>>1204332
How so?
>>
>>1204354
Bit more on stealth, observation and trickery. Nalt is more in your face BLITZ all the god damn time with overwhelming numbers and power.
>>
>>1204346
Maybe it will help her antisocial tendencies.

>>1204303
Overlord or OP would be best desu, I can't remember an OP Quest that didn't just fall off the face of the planet.
>>
>>1204369
Bort's pretty antisocial, just in an obnoxious way as opposed to a totally blank one.

Not as if it's important though
>>
>>1204359
Not really. Sausage's pretty much just as bad as Nalt, he isn't really a stealth or trickery guy. He's basically a drone Nalt sends out if extreme prejudice is needed.
>>
>>1204354
Sauce is the only one of the two that can into genjutsu, he has a sword like us, and his combat style is closer to ours in general.

On the other hand, Nardo knows sage mode and is much, much nicer to be around. And his adds in this case are Mari, Sarada and Kichiro, as opposed to Bort, literally who and best sister.

On the other other hand, I don't want to risk Bort getting closer to best sister.
>>
>>1204378
>Naruto,Mari and Kichiro
choosing the hotblooded

>Sasuke,Ai,Boruto,roku
Choosing the brooding

its like choosing Nohr and Hoshido

Soo...whats the benefit/what will we learn from each sides?
>>
mini, question about the time skip, will we be leaving the village for the training and if so when we return what are the chances of anyone remember us?
>>

>>1204432

>>
>>1204437
When was this established?
>>
>>1204437
Firstly, since when?
Secondly, they won't see each other for two and a half years.
>>
>>1204257

I dunno why, but the fact that Bort's training with Sausage and Nalt's training Salad makes me go "aww."

Leaning towards A, but we haven't seen the Sauce-boss in character yet. I guess part of it depends on whether we want to strengthen existing social links or focus more on newer ones. Also Sauce at least is a natural with fire jutsu, so there's that.

Maybe Bort can improve with time and the right friends? Maybe he and Ai will be good for each other? A guy can dream, I guess. But I think you guys have a better idea of how shit he is than I do. Speaking of, next time we meet him, do we give him shit for cheating, or give him shit for getting caught?

Big adventure/piracy themes from One Piece because I wouldn't want to run an OP quest if I could help it.

A bit of mystery, and the setting draws a lot from antiquity.

Tech level around Mass Effect, probably a little lower.

>think Yasu a shit and want to train with Naruto

>>
>>1204257
Oh dude, this is the type of shit you gotta spoiler man. My potential boner would have been so fucking big if you revealed this in quest naturally.
Oh well.

I don't feel like either teacher can teach us anything that perfectly fits our fighting style but I do feel team B would be the best for multiple reasons.
>Sasuke dispite being a nuke is by his very nature, one that hangs to the shadows, and as silly as it sounds I feel we'll get more of a chance to fight like us while training with him. He also has access to fire style, a better understanding of ninjustu in general, and the ultimate anti genjustu weapon, so we can both practice towards boil release and have someone to throw genjustu at too help us improve.
>Besides Ai, the company is alittle on the meh side, but between Roku the hound dog, the mighty brat Boruto, and Sasuke king of assburgers, I feel like they will all do well to have someone of our disposition around, especially Ai.
>I also feel like this is a great opportunity for Takeshi to get out of the village. Takeshi loves the hidden leaf, he's the type of guy that would be perfectly content staying in the village and only leaving to go on missions. This is a great opportunity for him to grow as a character. This is him putting the village first, not by being its constant protector, but leaving his comfort zone to get stronger to better protect his home in the future.
>And for those of you waifufags let me tell you i wanna spend my time training with Sadara and Mari too, but separation makes the heart grow stronger. Imagine us walking through the gates of the hidden leaf, hair slicked back, crackling with sexual energy. It will be fucking great.
>>
>>1205670
I wanted to give people some time to really consider the option since it sort of has big ramifications and it's not an easy choice.

>>
>>1206088

That is a very strong argument I must admit, though I prefer keeping the hair as is over the slicked back look since I'd prefer to keep Takeshi as a cute and dense dope over being a sexual tyrannosaurus
>>
>>1206066
Well not next time. We still have like two missions before the time skip but yeah shits hype.

Your thinking of Roku my dude, but yeah there's way to many anti-social people in one group. Dudes need someone to keep things light hearted.

Dude, Boruto is a little shit. We already beat his ass once infront of everyone and their mothers and then he humiliated himself at the next exams infront of everyone and their mothers.
I'm more worried about Roku than that sperglord.

Takeshi, on the other hand is already the peoples champion, and known for being exceptionally good at what he do. All we were missing was the looks which we'll have post time skip.

>>1206519
Also this. It took awhile but our boy will finally get the recognition he deserve.
>>
I'd rather Takeshi remain average and have any 'appeal' be the weight of his deeds.
>>
>>1206580
You're hardly the people's champion. Most people have forgotten who you are.

If you mention the things you did though they'll be like, oh right, that was super impressive. But that's just not enough.

Naruto is the people's champion.
>>
>>1207067
did Takeshi inspire any kids in the academy to adopt his style? or do those kids just not really care about chunin exams
>>
>>1207116
Pretty much every teacher was pointing to you as a good example of mastering the basics, and how important it is. Not every kid liked your style, but quite a few saw the undeniable importance of it.
>>
>>1204156
Well, original plan was to have the MC be a Mist ninja, but that one piece idea is also tempting...
Well, time to research both and i guess I'll see what i think will work out better
>>
>>1207171
I really don't get where everyone's getting the idea that Sasuke fits our fighting style more. When has Sasuke ever been about stealth or trickery? I get the other arguments, even the advantage of a fire guy helping us out, but I really don't get how that particular bit got in everyone's heads. Could you clear that up Mini, I just want to know if I'm being crazy or not.
>>
>>1207951
Sasuke seems to fit the traditional definition of a ninja that we try to emulate a lot better than Naruto does. Mind you he's more of an edgelord than anything, but at least he's more "get the job done" than "MY NINJA WAY".
>>
>>1208140
Not really. He's just as bad as Nalt, just more edgy and wears black. Can you think of one time he's ever solved anything through stealth or trickery? Fire jutsu I'll give you, but I'm sure Nalt's picked up a few in his years. We could work on Boil release a lot more effectively if we set up shop in one place and had a sort of alchemy space. They'r both not the best options in my view, so I'd argue we'd go with Nalt because he has more tangible advantages. I'd like to confirm them with Mini, but he seems pretty tight lipped.
>>
I think it's funny how you guys act like Takeshi is so interesting a special for being a hard working underdog whose motivation is to get strong and protect "muh nakama" when that's literally the most overused trope in any fighting anime. And our fighting style isn't even unique at all either. I'm only here because Mini says he's gonna go through some dramatic changes in part two.
>>
>>1208170
It's because he isn't a fucking idiot. The premise basically boils down to, "Regular guy tries to catch up in a post power creep setting", and normally that'd be Rock Lee. Train hard fight honorably, try to prove others wrong, never get's any on screen play. In this case, Takeshi's a fucking scumbag when it comes to combat, he's a gigantic coward and he has to be. Everyone's so caught up in cool justs and bloodline limits, that a regular guy defeating them doesn't even register. The fact that we do beat them is what makes it so good. It's really interesating to me because I've never seen a smart Shonen protag, because thaty'ds be broken usually. Also, Takeshi doesn't want to be the best for no reason, he wants to be the best because its fun and he enjoys it as well.
>>
>>1208186
What does "regular guy" mean in this context? He's a regular ninja who has a slight genjutsu focus. If you didn't notice we use plenty of ninjitsu too and we're even working on our own special snowflake overpowered boil release right now.
>>
>>1208211
Regular guy means average ninja, who in most circumstances could never hope to keep up. The difference between Boil Release and the Sharingan, is that we have to work for it. Saying that''s special snowflake is like saying someone studying to become a scientist is a special snowflake. We have to work for it.
>>
>>1208167
Neither teacher is all that great for us, they're both nuke style full crushing offensive fighters, but Sasuke is more inclined to teach us things that will facilitate our current style
>Sasuke can teach us how to more effectively use our jet sword. He us the edge king after all.
>Even if naruto picked up fire style Sasuke still has a better understanding of it and ninjustu in general. This will without a doubt help us learn boil release more effectively than sitting around town in a lab trying to brute force things like we're doing now.
>Sasuke has a super powered anti genjustu eye, so while it's a stretch to say he can teach us genjustu, he can empower our practice by testing things out on him.
>There are a ton of social and character development reasons to do this as well but from the way you talk I'm guessing you dont care for the points already made so i wouldn't recap for you.

The only thing I think Nault can teach is seals and sage mode. Then if we stay in the village we will be able to learn medical jutsu from Sakura.
The thing is though, if Roku is on the Sauske team then they have to have someone proficient in Med jutsu to teach him. And as useful as seals and sage mode are, Sauske cover more elements of our fighting style than Naruto.

In the end though, this is all speculation. It may turn out Nault as a ton of secret tech we dont have a clue about, but as of right now Sauske is our best bet.
I also highly doubt we will be able to go sage by the end of the time skip anyway, so we can save it till later.

Honestly, I want a statement form Mini at some point so we can know the pros and cons outright and not just speculate. I don't agree with you on the lab part though, because from what I can tell, its alchemy, and while Sasuke knows about fire jutsu, he doesn't know about boil release so we don't know if he can really teach us much about that. I'd rely more on a library and a stable workspace when trying to build an airplane, than rely on an unstable workplace with a person that knows how to build cars.
>>
>>1208254
His Sharingan would let him copy Boil though if he saw it once. And he is MUCH better with fire than Nalt and we're still kinda crap with it.

Eh, nothing against mini since I think this is a decent quest, but I think a good part of the popularity of this quest is that it's a way for readers to thumb their noses up at exceptionally poorly written source material without having to resort to obvious special snowflake chosen one bullshit the way most Naruto quests do.

Takeshi /is/ a special snowflake, but his special ability is to no-sell stupid Kishimoto fiat with common sense. The only reason the shit we use didn't work in canon was because word of god "lol that doesn't work on him because he's not a main character"
>>
Unrelated, has anyone run a naruto quest as a grimmer and darker seinen setting?

>mercenary nation states locked in a state of perpetual cold war
>bizarro ninja wizard magic combined with steam punk-esque schizotech in balance
>political tensions within cities, exacerbated by racism, bloodline politics and the fact that some individuals can singlehandedly overpower entire armies
>they're usually mentally unstable too
>implication that wars are intentionally prolonged for the sake of profit
>entire civilization built around war, with child soldiers as the lifeblood of these cities
>high mortality means nothing since you can just take in the orphans your wars create and make them your own soldiers

Now being a pragmatic Takeshi type in a world of mentally unstable special snowflakes, where people die at the drop of a hat would be fun
especially with dice rolls

Actually in that one, two breddy gud ideas were suggested early on: Mist Clones (which are created from mist in the Hidden Mist jutsu and otherwise function exactly like infinetely cheaper Haze Clones) And Iron Rain (In which a HUEG volley of senbon have the Shadow Shuriken jutsu applied to them, making the already hard to track projectiles even harder to dodge)
>>
>>1208871
Mist Clones sound sick and is totally doable at our current skill level.
Iron Rain also sounds rad, but im pretty sure we will need some type of proficiency in seal in order to make that work.
>>

I agree with you anon.

In fact, for much of naruto's earliest career, he relied on trickery involving the basics as opposed to Sasuke getting by on his raw superior ability.

The next morning, your group sets off towards the Mist. On your way there, you pass through a small village. It happens to be the same village that you once visited briefly, during your very first mission. Walking through the street, Kichiro taps your shoulder and points over to an alleyway. All the way at the end, you can see the door to a bar all boarded up and closed off. Even Ai can't help but smile as the three of you recall your sensei drunkenly stumbling out, shocked by the destruction you'd all caused.

Shikadai asks what was so funny, and you recount the tale to him as well. The four of you stop by a diner, and spend your breakfast thinking of the various stories from your careers as Genin. He remembers how terrifying the forest of death was, and how any mission afterwards seemed lesser in comparison. Even when you were up against rogue jounin, or powerful cultists, it wasn't the same as being locked behind a gate with the most powerful shinobi of your generation.

Looking around, you mentally note the state of the village. Before, it had seemed to be relatively quiet and free. These days, you note a high number of wanderers, thin and destitute people scattered along the gutters looking rather hopeless.

"What's with this place?" you say to Shikadai. He turns, and looks at you with a raised eyebrow. "What'd you expect? A lot of the smaller villages are starting to look like this. When these places once relied on trading furs or meat, now they've got to turn most of their resources just towards feeding the people that live here. Difficult to work in lumber when you're not strong enough to lift an axe, too. We used to have a lot of trade from the Mist to import fish, but considering that a number of small communities on their side of the border have been turned into psuedo-military installations by the rebels, they've been keeping it for themselves. We might be a really prosperous nation, but it's not without a lot of trade. This civil war is affecting everyone."

Ai interjects. "Additionally, a considerable stream of refugees are fanning out in every direction. While husbands and fathers are called to aid one side of the conflict, the families have little to no means of supporting themselves."

Kichiro chuckles. "Less crime here, at least. We don't see any of those gangs from before, eh?"

Shikadai nods. "Well, it's not as obvious at least. I'm sure there are people hoarding and stealing food. It might not be present in the city streets anymore, but farmers being raided is an even bigger problem than before. This just drives up prices in response. It's a vicious cycle, and it's all started with the Mist."
>>
>>1209644

You look down at the road grimly, as you continue your journey. This won't be an easy situation to recover from.

In a couple of hours, you reach the border of the Mist. The guards let you through, and give you detailed directions to the city you're heading for. It's a tourist town, located close to the mainland as opposed to along the coast, like most cities in the nation. It's noted for it's luxurious gambling halls and hotels, and an active nightlife. In a strange way, it's prospering, aside from a dramatic rise in crime. People looking to escape the troubles of the political climate come here to forget their troubles, and petty scum tend to take advantage of that. As the four of you approach the town, you're often propositioned by various street vendors. Several times, it looks as if a group of petty criminals is going to attempt to approach and rob you. Until they notice your headbands, that is.

Looking at a note in your pocket, you determine the adress of the building you're looking for. The sun is starting to go down, and the thudding bass of music can be heard.

The building seems to have several upper floors. There's a number of windows all around, as you'd expect.

Heading into an alley, you use the Summoning Jutsu and bring Danpei to the field. He looks up at you quizzically, when he notes his location. "Didja just bring me here to drink?"

You shake your head. "I'd just like you to be a lookout, if you don't mind. Make sure to tell us if anyone threatening enters the building once we've gone in."

He salutes you with his wing, and flies up into the orange hued sky.

Shikadai looks over. "How should we approach? If the four of us come from the front, they almost certainly won't let us in. We could attempt to transform and look like city people, though.

>A. Everyone, transform into a club goer. We'll try from the front.
>B. Shikadai and Ai, try to get in from a higher floor. Me and Kichiro will go in the front, transformed.

"Me and Kichiro will transform, and go in from the front. You two try to find a way to sneak in, possibly through the windows. Sound good?"

Everyone agrees. You'll regroup once you're inside, after you break the transformation.

"Oh, wait." you say. "Let me cast False Sound on everyone, so I can give out orders. This'll make it easy to meet up."

You do so, and proceed to turn yourself into an older, partygoing version of yourself. You're wearing a salaryman's suit, and your hair is ruffled. You've got the first few buttons of your shirt undone, and the tie around your neck has been loosened. You pull out a pair of shades to wear, even if it's starting to get dark outside. Kichiro does the same, turning into a large tatted thuggish man. He's wearing the same clothes he usually does, and it works quite well.

Your allies head around the back, and the two of you start to wait in line. You're trying to get yourself into the acting mood, so that the bouncer at the front will let you in. Kichiro elbows your side, and points towards him. "This is an old trick. That clipboard doesn't actually have anything written on it, but if he doesn't think we're cool enough he ain't gonna let us in. So make sure to act tough."

You nod, though you're not sure how tough you'll be able to look like this. Instead, you opt to be a little bit belligerent. Your steps become a bit sloppy, and you're extra careful to slur your words slightly. You've never actually been drunk, but you think you're doing a good enough job. A short while later, you're approaching the front. Kichiro is in front of you, and the bouncer takes one look at him and lets him through.

With a grin on your face, you point a finger gun at the bouncer and fire. "Sup man! Let's get the party started!"

The giant man looks down at you, totally unamused. He scoffs. "Don't think so, bub. Schmuck like you ain't getting in. You're not on the list, see?"

Take a coin or rock from the ground and start to spin it casually. Then do the behind the ear trick with some ninja skills. Then do both hands closed, when he opens up our hand and sees the coin or rock crushed. Give him a kind of cockyed assured look. False Place can only replicate visual sensations, so it wouldn't be able to mimic the feeling of having paper put into your hand. The most you'd be able to do is change the value of a note.

Initially, you panic slightly. You weren't quite expecting that he'd judge you so harshly, just based on your appearance. Do salarymen really get no respect in this world? Sighing, you reach into your pocket and pull out your wallet. The bouncer raises an eyebrow.

You pull out a six 1000 ryo notes (roughly 50 USD) and place them into his hand. You lower your shades, and grumble. "Hey, I've got friends waiting on the inside. How about you just put me on the list, and I won't have to start making a scene. I wanna relax after work, yeah? Surely you understand that.."

The bouncer takes your money, and chuckles. "Ah, wait, I think I see your name. My mistake, I was thinking you were someone way dumber. Go right on in."

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JflsBihO_MQ

Immediately, your senses are assaulted in various ways. Most notably is the loud, thumping music ringing in your skull. On the dance floor, a square grid flashes with rainbow colored lights. Various machines in the rafters pour fog into the area, probably going with some sort of Mist theme. The huge room has dozens, if not a hundred or more patrons. Most are dancing in rhythm on the dance floor, but there's a number of circular booths spread out on the sides. There's an open door with a set of stairs leading up to the next floor, as well. You imagine there's also a basement somewhere, if you had to guess. The long bar to the left has a skimpily dressed waitresses going in and out with food and drinks, indicating there's a kitchen behind it.

You step past him, and Kichiro is waiting for you near the entrance. He looks back. "What was the hold up, eh?"

It's necessary to shout just to hear each other.

With your hands in your pockets, you shrug. "Had to pay him outta pocket. I should've turned into a big tatted guy like you."

Your friend laughs, and starts to walk forward. "Whatever. Call the others, tell 'em to meet us by the bar."

Using False Sound, you mentally communicate with Ai and Shikadai and ask them to do so. A few minutes later, you see them approaching from across the dance floor. Shikadai looks more or less like a much younger version of his dad, and Ai seems to be a young woman in her twenties in a black miniskirt. Her normally stoic fashion makes her seem like a typical, bitchy club girl in many ways. You suppose that magazine she's been reading has helped her with her human transformations.

Kichiro orders a shot of liquor, and slams it back. Shikadai shakes his head. "Don't forget, we're not actually here to party. We'll hang out for the night, look around for any sort of clues that this is a Jashinist facility. For now, let's just lay low. Look for anything incriminating."

Ai brushes her hair behind her ears. "We didn't find anything in the upper floors. Just typical storage for a place like this."

"We should try to talk to people, see what they have to say about the place. Everyone, let's just mingle for now."

Kichiro's face starts to turn a bit red, the alcohol pumping into him rather quickly. He might look much older right now, but he's still only fourteen. He throws his hands up. "LET'S GOOO" and rushes off into the dance floor.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IaE20aXxCz4

Shikadai sighs. "I'll try to keep an eye on him. It's probably good we've got him to act like this. Jashinists look for egotistical personalities in general. I imagine they'll try to recruit him soon."

You give him a thumbs up, and turn to Ai. "We should split up. Sound good?"

She holds up a tiny black purse, and shakes her head. "This isn't my usual environment. I feel I'd like the necessary...demeanor, to make progress for the mission. I suppose this is an area of kunoichi skill I've neglected."

Considering how she's completely talented at almost everything else, it makes you laugh. "Well, just stick close to me then. I don't think I'm all that cool either, so we'll have to try to work together."

Taking her arm, you pull her around to the booths and try to talk with the people standing around and having drinks. Shikadai seems to be a decent job mingling with some girls, and Kichiro is crushing it on the dance floor. You guess, at least. You're not sure if he's attempting to act like your typical drunk idiot, or if that's what he's doing. Either way, it's a good job.

Most people seem to ignore you initially, but when they see Ai on your arm they give you a little more respect. All she does is remain quiet, only responding when directly engaged. Even then she's totally confused, and tends to look the other way. Somehow, this seems to work to your advantage. People assume that if you've gotten in with a cute girl who's socially frigid, you must be a real charmer yourself. Soon enough, you're laughing and joking with a couple of club goers. One is an exceedingly thin man, covered in tattoos. He's got a blue mowhawk, and his girlfriend is squat and blonde, with various streaks of color going through.

They laugh at one of your cornier jokes, probably because they're drunk. The squat girl pushes the conversation in a different direction.
>>
"So, like, how did you two meet?"

You scratch the side of your face. "Uh, through work. She works in the same office I do. But hey, enough about us. You two seem like you know the deal. This club's pretty..jumpin. Where can I meet the big man in charge, huh?"

The guy with the blue mowhawk scoffs. "Jumpin'? Heh, you need some work, guy. I dunno if you're ready to meet 'em. What makes you think you're tough enough to handle the big leagues 'round here, even if you got a pretty girl?"

"Hey, I'm stubborn enough to get her, aren't I?"

Next to you, Ai, in her current form as a tall drink of water, blushes. She likely doesn't realize her passive attitude is considered even more desirable. The squat blonde woman shrugs her shoulders, as if to say you have a point.

Mowhawk shakes his head, and scoffs. "Calm down, scuz. We got no shortage a' pretty girls in the bossman's business. That's not quite what I was meaning. What do you bring to the table? See, my man's quite sensitive. If he thinks I'm wasting his time, it's more my head than yours, see?"

You take off your glasses, and glare at him. "I'm richer than you could ever hope to be, scuz. Let me just say I'm enough of a charmer to handle the big leagues. Imports, exports, that sorta thing."

The squat woman scoffs. "With a suit like that? Get real."

Ai leans down, and looks them in the eye. "He bought my dress, honey."

The little woman crosses her arms, and groans. "I bet he pays to take it offa' ya' too, ho."

Ai snaps back a little bit, and you feel her grip tighten on you. Based on her history, you can't imagine she likes being insulted like this. Even still, she simply holds up a frigid glare. Thankfully, it adds to your image, despite her embarrassment. Mowhawk laughs. "Now now, ladies. Let's all get along. Here, I'll take you to bossman, how 'bout that? You can talk specific figures, he'll decide whether or not you're worthy. Better not be wasting our time though, I'll have to skin ya', eh?"

You doubt that he's joking about that part. Either way, you agree, and he leads you to one of the circular booths. You'd been completely unable to see before, due to a small crowd of built men and attractive women. The group parts and allows you to enter, and the scent of smoke and liquor fills your nostrils. On the glass table is a set of various knives, and several powdery, white substances. There's a collection of various drugs to suit anyone's preference.

Your eyes draw upwards to the center of the booth. Much to your surprise, there is no large, intimidating 'bossman.'

There is only a skinny teenager named Shozuku. He is shirtless, wearing tight black pants. There's a full length katana seated next to him, even closer than the carefree women surrounding him. You're glad that you've still got your transformation.
>>
>>1210737

Mentally, you ask Ai to remain calm, and let you do the talking. You can only begin to imagine how she's feeling right now, though, that's not to say you don't have your own share of emotional investment. Here he is, the source of all the pain you've seen.

Shozuku grins, in an exceedingly wooden fashion. The corners of his mouth raise, but there isn't a hint of joy in his dark eyes. "Sit down." he says.

You and Ai do so. Your heartbeat is quickening, as the adrenaline starts to pump through your body. You call out to Shikadai and Kichiro. We've found him! We're at one of the circular booths, the one in a center position in the back!! Stand by and observe!

You don't want to look around to make sure they're there, as there's no telling how much detail this boy could be reading into. You start, smiling. "Hey there. My name's Kobayashi Takeda."

Shozuku nods, leaning forward on the hilt of his sword. You note that his eyes are bloodshot, probably from any number of chemicals. "Right. My man told me you were fairly wealthy. If you'd like to make a sensible investment, I'm sure I could supply you with anything you might need from the darker side of life."

It's increasingly unnerving to watch him attempt to be friendly. Shozuku waves a hand across the table. "Drugs. Illegal weapons. Hired thugs. Tell me, what are you looking to buy? Or maybe, you'd like to be more deeply involved in my organization.."

He looks over at Ai, and winks. You can feel her shudder.

They're hurting for recruits that are worth a damn, and they need money and connections. They think we can offer both of those, and we're unlikely to step on their toes. Our part (in character) is to hire toughs for protection and get an entrance to their territory.

You tap your hand on the glass table, thinking. "I'd be interested in putting towards a considerable investment in this drug trade of yours. Hired thugs, too."

Leaning forward, you grin widely, Thankfully you've still got your shades on, or he might notice how similar you still look to him. "Hell, I think I want it all. I've been a businessman for a while now, but it's been getting boring, frankly. Drugs, hired guns, illegal weapons, I'm interested in it all."

Shozuku nods. "I see. You want to take advantage of the instability here. Well, I'm certainly not one to judge. For some, this whole situation's a hellish experience. For others, it's just an opportunity. Wanna be a big crime boss like in the movies, right?"

You nod, slowly. "Yeah. Something like that."

The pale boy leans down, and snorts a line of powder off the table. He tilts his head up, and slaps his knee before cackling. It's so strange to think of him as being the same age as you, when his personality is totally contrary to everything a kid is. Behind your sunglasses you're rather shocked, but you just hold a somewhat cocky smile. Shozuku grins and wipes his nose, rubbing his knee hard. "I like it! I like man who sees the world as it is, not as he'd like it to be. If you're as wealthy as you say, I could certainly use your support. You live in this city, I guess?"

You nod. "That's right. I want to make it my territory. Clear out all these petty little gangs, and get something serious going."

Shozuku reaches under the table, and sets a suitcase down. Entering a padlocked combination, he flips it open, and you're presented with what seems to be a rough, mechanical version of Anzai's Chakra rifle. Shozuku holds it up.

"This is a steam-powered pistol. Cartridges of compressed air fire out senbon, laced with poison. It's highly illegal, considering how easy it is to mass produce." He points upwards, and fires. Sure enough, a needle is blasted out silently. Much like the invention of the crossbow, your head is spinning with the technological ramifications of such a weapon. Sure it'd still be impossible to draw a bead on your average shinobi, but for general conflicts, this could change the world. A bead of sweat drops down your forehead."

"Wow.." you say. "So, you could send me some men equipped with these things. They'd be able to protect my..traders?"

Shozuku nods. "That's right. Just show me the money, and we're all set."

You scratch your chin. "I've also got some business partners who might be interested in this sort of exchange."
>>
>>1210986

The boy puts the gun back into the suitcase. "The more the merrier. Now, enough business. Let's get to know each other, eh?"

Shozuku's eyes narrow. "No. I need some sort of proof that you're willing to keep your word, and most importantly, that you're not a ninja. I'm sure you're well aware that shinobi can take on various forms, and have been trained in the art of infiltration extensively. There's a chance that the cigarette is a poison or a psychadelic, either of which will fuck this mission pretty dry. Way I look at it, these civilians were a tragedy caused by shitty intel.

They're clubgoers in a club owned by a terrorist. Ergo, they are terrorists.
>>
>>1211387
>Good luck ever getting a mission again.
Didn't Sasuke murder like, 50 samurai who were trying to protect their home, along with the de facto leader of the Leaf? And then subsequently turn himself into God in an effort to kill the Hero of the World and the Five Kage, along with the pacified Bijuu?
>>
>>1211387
You've gotta be shitting me. The same village that put us through the grinder called the Forest of Death, which by the way, got a lot of dumb kids killed, is going to retire us over some civilians?

Why is it likely laced with poison? Why is the gun filled with blanks?

This is retarded, and contrary to almost every choice you've made in this quest so far.

>>1211349
There's nothing intel has told you that has been correct.

>>1211362
Well, a lot of people are giving really ridiculous reasons for WHY their vote is being picked.

I'd hate for people to be seriously asshurt.

>>1211367
No, they are all civilians.

End of thread. Going to give people another chance to look at the information in front of them, and make a choice based on that instead of a lot of assumptions.

Next time I run everyone will get the chance to vote again, after considering this. If you REALLY want to do this, I'm not going to stop you, but you should be aware of WHY you're doing this.

If you REALLY want to, do it next thread.

>>1211388
You are going to get blown the fuck out if you think this is a suitable excuse for killing people. Naruto is your Hokage.

Like I said, end of thread. I was going to end it with the next post anyways.
>>
>>1211387
Good luck escaping. Offing Shozuku means we and our team die to his guards. Taking a hit means tripping balls while Shozuku kills us himself.

One deliberate casualty is worth not having dozens as collateral, or do you think the Jashinists WON'T go murder crazy when shit goes down?
>>
>>1211411
>Naruto is your Hokage.
#notmyHokage.
Memes aside though, I think we need to get deeper involved with Shozuku's operation before we make a major move. Maybe I'm just overplanning it though.

>>
>>1211411
Thank for running.

Now, let's talk about why we should shoot one of his henchmen.
>1) We don't smoke the cigarette or kill a civilian
Avoids the bad things both don't want.
>2) We take control of the situation
Don't let him decide our choices
>3) We can play it off
We "heard the rumors", and sating our curiosity is worth more than the heat of killing some guys wife. That's a waste of pay-off money and a pretty face.
>>
So.
Risk self harm with drug and therafter
Risk principles and reputations with civilian slaughter
or risk the operation with pinning for bigboss.

Gonna have to go A
>>
>>1211432
I think you aren't 100% certain that the cigs are ninja killers, or that chakra inhibiting drugs even exist. But you're willing to murder people to not take the risk. Who is going to accept that reasoning?

>>1211409
We're deliberately disobeying our orders to limit civilian casualties by killing them ourselves.

>>1211405
We aren't Sasuke.
>>
Just do some drugs, mang.
If we gotta shoot someone, shoot kichiro while he's transformed or something, or close enough and have him fake it.
Simple as that. Why would we ever kill random people?
>>
I don't get why people aren't voting B.
Hes the leader of the organization.
We've got a fucking golden chance to end him .
Only thing i was worried about was if it was loaded with blanks but mini straight said it wasn't.

Fuck, changing out of our transformation if he breaks out would be a big enough surprise to land a mortal hole in his head.
>>
>>1211411
The problem is, everyone considers the two options a trap. It makes sense that at this point the one option a ninja would avoid is a casualty. Therefore, trap the narcotics and have the super important person you're talking to be a clone.

Frankly, if neither of those things are true. Shozuku is a fucking shit planner.
>>
>>1211444
>You are absolutely overplanning it by several steps.
One day soon, Takeshi will be able to outkeikakku any opponent.

Thanks for running anyway Mini.

>>1211464
>We aren't Sasuke.
Other, still living/active ninja have certainly killed civilians though, but we're not in that era anymore.

>>1211466
We can still not do the drugs though.
>>
>>1211447
>>1211445
>>1211454
Attacking Shozuku isn't an option. A fight with mister DEATH ACID DRAGON in a crowded nightclub will be a goddamn MASSACRE!

We either smoke up or shoot someone. If we smoke up we might have a serious problem on our hands if our concentration slips. Shooting someone does nothing to us but on the other hand injures or kills random people.

Our best bet is probably taking the drugs. We've got decentish poison resistance, we know medical ninjutsu that might get it out of us with a quick "bathroom break", and we've got our team to attempt some sort of distraction or ploy if we need to get out fast.
>>
>>1211444
It's heavily implied that the hit will out us as legit if we take it, immediately after Shozuko brought up transformation. Maybe it wasn't intentional, but Shozuko trusting the hit because it's "illegal" is the dumbest thing I've heard from him so far. As if it beong illegal would stop a dedicated shinobi.
>>
>>1211468
We're weaker than him in every way except smarts. He already suspects we might be a ninja so the chance of a sneak attack is 0.
>>
>>1211468
Our golden chance to end him is just as good right now as it would be after shooting an innocent person.
>>
>>1211481
I didn't say we should shoot Shozuku. I said we should shoot one of his bodyguards.
>>
>>1211481
>quick "bathroom break"
He'll probably force us to sit until it takes effect though, that's what I would do if I were a drug dealer courting new partners.
>>
>>1211468
plus he's a Jashinist mate.
>>
>>1211484
Totally agree. And it would also totally make sense for Shozuku to be a clone or someone else transformed, with him nearby directing the clone/transformed nin.
>>
>>1211468
But B is all about shooting the random schmucks dancing around on the floor though, can't quite see how that ends him
>>
>>1211484
>>1211498

>>
>>1211478
We are in that era, as our Hokage is going to find out very quickly. Shozuku isn't the final boss, that will be the ninja war later on.
>>
>>1211472
So you're trying to meta you way through? Not good. Look at what's in front of you and stop making assumptions based on no evidence.

I have consistently said from the start I design my encounters to specially fuck over meta planning. This is why I'm trying to get people to stop.
>>
>QM throws out the results of votes he doesn't like while trying to convince anons to vote for what he wants

>>
>>1211500
...what POSSIBLE reason could he have for that?
>>
>>1211503
To be fair to Mini, this is probably more derailing than a Spanish conductor, and he didn't expect this outcome.

There's your (You), get out.
>>
I think we should take the hit, it's supposed to prove that whoever takes it is trustable thus it can't be something that horribly fucks up the person using it, if only because that would make doing business with that person pretty damn hard
>>
Shozuku has given us an option shoot into a crowd, or take a hit.

Why don't we just ignore both, act offended at being tested, and nope the fuck out of here like a rich, spoiled brat would?
>>
>>1211502
That's not meta, that's perfectly valid, perfectly "Takeshi" reasoning. "It's what I would do in his position, I must assume he's done something similar."
>>
>>1211502
What? No. That is not Meta planning. That is planning planning. It is planning around a intelligent, dangerous terrorist organization who it would be assumed would take sensible precautions against assassination and infiltration.

And why would there be evidence of a covert trap designed to take you by surprise? These assumptions, yes. But they are reasonable assumptions about incredibly easy preventative measures.
>>
>>1211525
Because that's the same thing as trying to shoot him. He's going to stab us and take our stuff if we look weak. That's not a Jashinist thing, that's a criminal underworld thing.
>>
>>1211516
To be even more fair he should be prepared to write any option that he includes in a vote. It wasn't even a write-in. I don't want it to happen but last time I checked quests are about the decisions made by the players.
>>
>>1211510
Because if a ninja refuses to take them, they are going to strike at him. He can kill them without regret. If a true business person is just leery but under threat of hurt, would do it.

>If is ninja, refuses to take drugs, meaning he either kills people and is not Mist or Leaf based, or tries to attack me and I kill him.
>If is not ninja, I have dirt on him regardless of what happens.

Basically he's playing on innate shinobi paranoia and metagaming. We have not seen anything like this at the flower shop, and an inhalant that disrupt chakra would be used by everyone, because it is hax. So either he has bullshit resources or is bluffing.

>>1211525
Because he'd kill us.

>>1211503
When you see literally everyone making shit up to support a decision, it's time to stop.
>>
>>1211536
Wait fuck it was a write in for the first vote. Well it's still a valid option that isn't happening just because mini won't let it.
>>
>>1211525
You actually make a good fucking point. Looking offended and telling him to fuck off. We don't wanna fuck our head up during business talk and who the hell wants to get a murder pinned on them for some business. We'll just find some other supplier.

>>1211528
My thoughts exactly. I'm not sure why Mini is being so antagonistic about this.
>>
>>1211536
You can still totally make it.

I just don't want people to make it for the wrong reasons, like assuming it's full of blanks, or assuming the cigarette is full of poison.

I am explicitly stating these things are not true.
>>
>>1211534
We don't have any actual money on us, you know? The thing about fuck you money, is that people with it will say fuck you, and walk away when they don't get their way. It's stupid to do what he wants, so tell him to fuck himself.
>>
>>1211541
>So either he has bullshit resources
Considering the scope of the Jashinist insurrections, he probably has enough resources to get his hands on whatever illicit he wants, short of Kaguya's breastmilk or Bijuu jenkem.
>>
>>1211551
Still why the fucking hell would he waste a super rare and powerful resource in common drugs? Drugs he JUST took?
>>
>>1211549

Wasting something that could fuck up a jonin before they realize they're in shit in drugs that johnny blow gets. Remember this was not a scheduled meeting, So either Shozuku is past batman tier paranoid, stupid, or he's fucking bluffing to fake out other ninja.

Because he's part of a murderer cult who hates cowards and weakling, besides us being an front to his personal creed. He'd make a quick buck off us and our assets.

>>
>>1211638
Yeah, I'm not saying it's ALL that, it just seems that a lot of people are going out of their way to pick the shittiest option possible for any reason.

I have said multiple times if people do that, I will not let you do that.

There are SOME valid reasons for picking option B, and it's not going to be the end of the quest if you do, but man, there are just better options that I thought were clear.

You are literally choosing "Fire the gun into a crowd of innocents"

In a quest where you have routinely tried to keep everyone as safe as possible, and always tried to do the right thing. Even at personal risk.

Now people are suddenly doing a 180. Looking for ANY excuse to do this.

>>1211671
You do not have the agency to make complete 180's in this quest, if I think some bullshit is up.

>>
>>1211685
I should clarify, just because I say I might, doesn't mean I am. If you guys pick this I'm not going to reverse the situation.

In this moment though, when I suddenly have 20+ new ID's in the thread, I am highly suspicious.
>>
>>1211549
For someone who says he's explicitly trying to avoid metagaming, this sure is meta.

>>1211491
Same deal, he's not going to be happy about that. I.E. unless you're happy getting blinded by acid, which is what he does to people who fuck with him. Whatever's in the cigarette, if it's actually supposed to be a test, will likely fuck us up enough that we can't retain a henge. Either poison or hard drugs. It shouldn't be enough to straight up kill a normal man, and we're pretty tough, so we should be able to hold it together for a few minutes. But he's going to expect us to stick around for much longer.

Right now, maybe it's time for plan fire alarm, though that might look suspicious. Maybe plan ACTUAL FIRE could work.

Here's another idea, push back and say we didn't come here to be fucked with, we hired a missing-nin as a bodyguard, and she's right here. Things could get tense, but if Ai can stand up to scrutiny, maybe break a few arms, we might get out of here with plans for a meeting.

>>1211643
He's a psycopathic serial killer who leads a literal death cult, is currently high on cocaine and thinks we're a dumbass nobody fucking with him. Honestly it's a miracle we've gotten this far. The problem is, if he tries to kill us there'll be a fight, and if there's a fight he can and will kill half the people in this nightclub in the first five seconds.

I'm not saying there AREN'T legitimate reasons for wanting to shoot. There totally are. But wanting to triple check before you do something contrary to a lot of the stuff that's been picked before this isn't too crazy, right?

People are acting like I've already made the choice.

I'll state it again. If you don't like how I'm handling things right now, you can get out and read another quest. No drastic decisions have been made, no one has been told no, you can't pick option B.

I'm just saying, you SURE you want to do this? If the answer is yes, that's fine. Vote next thread.

It seems like it's an outcome you don't want though, QM's have some agency over write-ins. But now that it's gotten this far, what I'm saying doesn't really matter.

I hate to see you burn Mini, but it's a little fun to watch.
>>

There's no good way around this choice. We're about to lose our transformations, while surrounded by enemy Jashinist ninja, and our character is a very squishy guy compared to other quests. But hey, I'm picking A because Mini reassured us.

See, this is the type of reasoning that's purely trolling.

If someone posts this next thread, I'm gonna tell you your vote doesn't count.

Don't like it, you can read a different quest.

Weeding out shitposters this way.

Sometimes you have to railroad if you want to save the whole train. But, if anons post legitimate reasons for the vote, many reasons of which there are, then it's fine.

>>1211772
Ironically, this actually plays well into some long term things I have in store. It's just that this is a major, sudden turn away from every other choice previous in the quest.

Yeah I've seen it happen a lot in quests. If I think people's justifications aren't up to snuff, I'll turn this track over and save this train.

Personally, I'm a fan of shadow possession route.

That being said, I think the main legit reason is the one life vs many argument. As idealistic as we are, we're pragmatic enough to realize that, as much as the decision would haunt us in the future, getting Shozuku is worth it, just because of the death HE will cause if we allow him to continue doing his thing

>>
>>1211740
We've got Ai, and while she's not Zabuza she's more than a match for anyone Shozuku has access to. We can still Gato our way out of this. Rule number one of business is don't let people fuck with you. You let yourself be treated like a bitch and that's what you'll be.

In order to clear the air, let's reassess our mission. previously, it was to investigate this club and see who's running it, possibly shutting it down to stop recruitment, with an emphasis specifically on avoiding casualties that would make the Mist or Konoha look bad.
Now, we know exactly who's running it and why. Kidnapping or interrogating people won't get us anything. The only remaining tasks we have are to stop recruitment, and if possible take out Shozuku and/or more of his lieutenants. We have an opportunity to attack him here and now, but the problem is that even if we kill him the result will be "Konoha shinobi, in league with Mist government, perpetrate nightclub massacre, killing dozens of innocent civilians, showing a total lack of regard for collateral damage" which would exacerbate the current civil war and possibly cause an actual war.
We need to get Shozuku or his men away from people who'd get killed or injured in the fighting if we want to get him. That's an issue, because there's no way he's not going to be on guard in any situation where he's vulnerable.

We can't fight him in a packed nightclub.
We can't sound a fire alarm in packed nightclub and then fight him.
We can't start an actual fire either, for obvious reasons.
There's pretty much no way of getting people out of this place both fast enough to avoid them getting killed in the corssfire AND slow enough to avoid causing a panic and killing lots of them.

So this has to happen later. We need to leave, stake this place out, and either attack during the day when no one's here or outside when Shozuku leaves. Which means we have to get from where we are now to outside the club and Shozuku has to let us leave.

What? I . . . I'm honestly confused.

So if people vote for this option you're giving. Like just write.

>B. Shoot into the crowd

And have nothing else in their post besides their vote, you aren't going to count it?

Or do they have to write

>B. Shoot into the crowd
"Ayyyy lmao, killing civvies is fun lol! "

To have their votes vetoed?

And it seems like you're implying that the option is a subpar option, considering the meta information you've given and the fact that you're demanding people vote for this option give legitimate, thought out reasoning.

And then you say people make dumb mistakes in high pressure situations so that's alright and a reasonable thing.

So would a vote like this

>B. Shoot into the crowd
"I objectively know this option is sub-par, but this is a high pressure situation and I want the MC to make a dumb mistake"

valid? Or is that just trolling?

If the character doesn't have time to think about it, why do the voters have to have time to think about it?

I really think you should just veto the option right now rather than let good-meaning people waste their votes because they didn't give the super special secret reasoning for shooting into the crowd.

Because some people might want to take the cigarrette over the attack and vica versa, and you're essentially denying their vote under the accusation of "SHITPOSTER!"

Has to be IC reasoning. All three of the options you suggested would get vetoed.

It's because of how contrary this is to everything the character has done, when there is an option that puts THEMSELVES at risk, as opposed to other people.

Basically, OOC reasoning is not enough to do a 180 IC.

>Has to be IC reasoning.

But then their in character reasoning can't be mistaken. Like they can't think "maybe these drugs are poisonous/out ninjas by fucking up chakra" or however the fuck this works in Naruto, because they know that isn't true because of what you just said.

And they also can't think "Maybe the gun is loaded with blanks" also because of what you just said.

Just don't include the fucking option. Or, if there is some sort of in-character reason that could justify it, use that if that option gets picked.

I don't get how you don't think vetoing votes for an option is some how less railroady then just vetoing the option entirely.

It isn't.

Just don't fucking include it.

There are valid IC reasons, but why the hell would I just say them at this point? Look this this thread yourself, at what the anons have said, because there were some points where I was like "Well, that's true."

If those points or more get brought up, then I can't really say much, can I?
>>
>>1212005
No, see, that's not how this works. You want the character to take an action, you want your rails, fine. Anons will bitch, but cope.

Now you've pissed people off with your illusion of choice and half-assed, dare I say Somnius-esque defence of it. This is how quests die, by QMs thinking they can piss off their core voters without repercussion.

Whatever you decide, I reccommend starting off next session with an acknowledgment of your dickery, and an apology. There is no quest without voters and discussion.
>>
>>1212028
He's honestly being pretty reasonable about things, and there are obvious shit posters here. I don't think that you get to decide when someone has to apologize because you get triggered by someone not doing things the way you want them to be done.
>>
>>1212028
You are not my core voter.

If any of my core voters have a problem with this, I'm sure they'd tell me. The people who have had problems with this, I've responded to and been fair with I think. You are the only one taking serious issue with how I've handled it, and you don't even read the quest.

I have always said this is how I do things, and by virtue of me never having had to do it, I think people trust me for that. I doubt I will need to next thread, anyways.

You're throwing around a lot of what ifs and maybes, but I just don't care. What people have I pissed off? Maybe with all this shitposting some people are frustrated, but I think my actual playerbase understands why I've made the choices I have.

As I have said many times, if you don't like it, fuck off.

>This is how quests die

I feel like I might have come off a bit bitchy and short there.

What I mean is, some people's interest in the quest might have been damaged by Mini's refusal to acknowledge the railroading.

Amongst other things.

This should be acknowledged and dealt with maturely, so as to bring said individuals back. I'm a lurker, I'm no less likely to vote now than I was before. I just don't want one relatively minor argument to leave actual voters feeling so bitter they might actually leave. As I said, this kills quests
>>
>>1212024
>There are valid IC reasons, but why the hell would I just say them at this point?

Because when you don't say them it makes it seems like you're keeping them secret as best you can so players don't choose that option.

Which means you don't want to write it.

And if you don't want to write it . . . don't include it.

You clearly don't like the direction that option would take the story, so why not take the story in the direction you want it to without denying people the chance to have a say in the story.
>>
>>1212063
Hey I'm sorry anon, I got your ID mixed up with someone elses.

I'm not going to apologize to anyone as a whole, though. I've seen way too many threads get /destroyed/ because a QM would go back on his choices and relent, even if he was right. People can smell blood in the water.

I get your point, but, I'll run as long as I have three voters. I am not worried about it. To be fair, I do think you were being kind of ridiculous after looking back on this thread.

You saying "Anything for the mission" when, I have given this same option MANY, MANY times, and people say "No, our friends and honor are more important than the mission" makes me suspicious.

I am going to double check this. I've always said this, and I'm not going back on it.

I'm not sucking up to anyone.

>>1212071
But people totally can pick the option. In fact, it plays out well with some ideas I have for part 2. I will write it, I just don't want people to be /upset/ when they something sorta shitty happens as a result of a basic misunderstanding that could be avoided.

You are not my core voter (you are actually who I meant earlier) so don't worry about it. If they don't like how I run things, they'll tell me.

>>1212063
If the individuals left because of this they won't come back, because they weren't invested in the first place. They'll just see the thread, think it's probably a shit show, and scroll on past.

This is no worse than when Crusty would tell his voters "no" when they were clearly shitposting. I'll take a train on the tracks before I take one off the rails. He's just not taking shit when a bunch of idiots want to watch it burn like any good DM would.

Alright, I'm going to try to summarize what seems to have happened.

>Mini puts up vote
>People make assumptions, then make assumptions assuming the assumptions to valid
>now assuming the assumptions to be true, they vote because of the assumptions they assumed
>Mini holds revote, explains assumed assumptions are not valid because they are assuming assumptions they assume to be true, which is assumingly not valid in his eyes
>people still vote because they cannot understand the assumptions they assumed to be true are wrong and are purely assumed assumptions they assumed
>Mini explains why voting because of wrongly assumed assumed assumptions is not a valid reason to do 180 character spin
>explains there are other, valid reasons that are not assumed assumptions, and that voters should use those valid reasons instead of making assumptions
>declares that assumed assumptions anons assumed to be true are assumed and nothing more
>says he doesn't want anons to assume assumptions and make a big decision because they assumed too many assumptions, assumes they will be legitimately mad for making a decision on nothing more than falsly assumed assumed assumptions
>everyone starts shitposting

How close was I?
>>
>>1212290
The joke was pretty meh.

Much better summary incoming:

>Players suggest something relatively edgy and dumb

You're probably right but I'm not a tripfag so kys anons can't be wrong when arguing with tripfag.
>>
This quest has always been fairly handily railroaded though. Not sure why people are this asspained about mini blatantly doing it now.

He's been pretty smooth with it, and it gives the writing good flow, but this "quest" has always been
>go right
>go slightly right
>peek around the corner before going right
with write-in options being limited to
>check both ways first
>walk five steps then sprint the rest of the way (but still go right)
I mean...the lack of dicerolling ensures no random events that cannot be planned for. It's always been more fanfiction than cyoa?

I'm sure my lack of posts and general lurker status will make people assume I'm a shitposter but w/e. I tend to not participate and enjoy reading it, if only because I don't think I've ever really cared about the choices were faced with to vote.

>>
>>1212305
Don't think it's anyone who actually disagrees with the way I run, just people from /qtg/ complaining that I don't run the way they like.

I will say that it's not as railroady as you might think, but more, I always give repeated chances for a return to success. There's been a lot of missions that ended in "success?"

Several draws and losses, too. But you are correct in thinking that I haven't given too many opportunities for many major consequences. As I often say, this is all just a warm up for what's going to be the more serious part 2.

Thanks for archival though.

>>1212296
Nah don't believe trick, he doesn't even read he just shitposts. The only type of railroading I do keeps things on track. It's not like I'm not going to let people pick the option, or that it's going to play out exactly how you might think at this point.

Or we could use our water chakra to enhance filtration throughout the body and get the drugs through our liver faster. Of course I dont know if this could actually be a thing.

Here's some IC reasoning for shooting someone.

>Shozuku's eyes narrow. "No. I need some sort of proof that you're willing to keep your word, and most importantly, that you're not a ninja. I'm sure you're well aware that shinobi can take on various forms, and have been trained in the art of infiltration extensively. One solution for me, as a 'businessman' as you've put it, is to reach across this table and slap the shit out of you. Option two, is to see you partake in something illegal. Now, you can either take a drag, or.."

Ok, he's even mentioned specifically the possibility that we're a transformed ninja. Given that's the case, how is taking a hit gonna persuade him otherwise, exactly? Ninjas aren't angels, they're trained killers, and taking some drugs wouldn't be a problem for most of them. So if he's at all not an idiot, there must be something about this which cancels transformations or similar. Maybe it's very hard to maintain a transformation when totally fucked out of your mind (Takeshi would probably know this). If there really is nothing to the drug except regular drug stuff, it shouldn't persuade him at all that we're not a ninja.

On the other hand, if he's mentioning the possibility we're in disguise, frankly unless he's stupid there's no way we'll get much traction out of this. The moment something comes up which would be useful intelligence for us, he'll stick us with something which unmasks us. You don't just leave open a live possibility of infiltration which you could easily close off, especially when you know you're being hunted by covert types.

If that second bit is wrong, though, here's why we should murder someone. If we get revealed, there will be a fight. We're not outside, we're in a crowded club, and moreover our enemy uses acid. It's safe to say if it comes to a fight, many people are going to get hurt/die, probably dozens. Now, Takeshi in this situation, for the reasons I've said, should have non-zero credence that he will somehow get outed by taking a hit. I think he should have about 1/3-1/2 credence this is the case. So if he's trying to save lives, shooting someone now, while aiming low down to not kill, should be better than having a 1/3 chance of causing a dozen deaths (so expected 4 deaths).

>>1208600
What and where was this quest?
>>
>>1212780
Yes, I certainly don't think any of the actual players who were voting were just shitposting. All that started once people saw a hint of chaos, and just decided to join into it.

It was at that moment when I sensed stuff boiling over that I decided to put a hold on things for now.

>>1212821
All pretty legit
>>
>>1212821
Yeah this makes sense. Mabye we could aim for a particularly flashy individual, or shoot through someone's afro or purse to reduce the needles velocity making shure that any wounds inflicted would be light and managable to remove the poison in a short timeframe.
>>
>>1212821
>>1212894
why don't we just purposefully miss. It's not like a rich office worker would know how to aim a gun.

Say something like "you sure about this, man? I've never shot one of these, do I just point or is there a trick to it?"

then aim above the crowd
or we could have Kichiro set off the sprinklers/fire alarm as we shoot Shozuku. It'll make the civilians clear out and distract Shozuku for a split second so we can shoot him
>>
I didn't think qst was lively enough for a shitstorm
>>
>>1212780
>I just wanted to waifu haku you tease.
>non of that rock kage vs 10/10 shit would have happened if you let us.

That was Laze not Country anon. Do all Naruto QM's look alike to you?

>>1212821
This is the best IC reasoning i have seen so far, i could get behind it on making an IC gamble that shooting one innocent non lethally (in the foot or something) and getting one of our allies to find and drag them off somewhere for us to remove the poison later. However, with Shozoku considering the possibility of us being transformed, he may very well have someone else hit us or just do it himself and then if we live, he can make a slander campaign about how awful we/the leaf are.

There is no right answer here, or rather there is, but it isn't a clear choice. Do we possibly kill someone on the chance that we *Might* save lives by stalling a fight here or do we try to start a fight but hopefully with the initiative. I do want to say Shozoku has NEVER been shown to use a shadow clone, but what about a boil clone or such? I'll shoot that theory down and say Takeshi would notice as all ELEMENTAL clones reveal their true nature in some way, and wouldn't be able to take those drugs as he did. Mini did say he's not expecting us, though he is generally cautious that we could be SOMEONE.

I think a shadow possession would be VERY hard to spot in this environment, and I don't think this is a clone, so let's take the safest risk here, as using Kichiro or Ai to attack seems unwise as they involve being rather obvious, while Shikadai's attack method is subtle and likely to work, we could grab Shozoku and fling him outside, or flee ourselves to take the fight around less innocents.

Being Takeshi, i want the chance to save ALL lives and possibly end this for good, we haven't seen any of his key goons here so this seems like a great chance to end this NOW. So when Mini starts this back up again, I'm going to vote I'm going to vote for what I think is our best bet >D

>>1212836
Shitposters shit because they like chaos, but others get in flame wars because they care and i find it hard to tell apart sometimes. Ultimately you were right to stop everything where you did and i'm glad it seems you realise where the uproar ends and the shitposting begins, because for the most part all of us here that actually read this quest just want to do the best we can, get the best outcome and have the best experience. Thanks for being patient and HOPEFULLY people think about this clearly for later.
>>
>>1212943
better yet: take the second idea, have Kichiro set off the fire system, and instead of shooting Shuzuko we have Shikadai shadow posses him and we cut his head off before he can even think "dude I'm too baked for this"
>>
>>1213013
Keep in mind Shozuku was Jonin tier before he went nutso, and ALL jonin in nalt's time are taught shadow clones.
>>
>>1213074
He does know shadow clones, but he wasn't ever formally trained as a ninja. At least not by anyone from a village.

This is his whole backstory condensed more or less, that's been revealed in chunks throughout the quest.

>Born with Ai, twins
>The son and daughter of a dwindling clan of assassins of the Leaf, noted for their unique and powerful secret techniques
>The clan gets murdered en masse by rogue shinobi looking for these secrets
>Shozuku and Ai are taken in by foster parents
>the foster dad is doing normal dad shit when it comes to rearing 4 year olds, takes things a bit too far one day though by actually hitting Ai and Shozuku
>Shozuku responds by stabbing him, running away from the village at the age of 4
>He gets picked up by a functional assassin's guild of rogue ninja. They find out who he is, read the news papers about what happened, decide to rear him to be a killer
>this works until he's about ten years old, has enough of their shit and escapes after killing several members. At this point he's roughly Chunin level
>totally lost, only good at killing, discovers Makoto's gang of Jashinists,
>details that will be revealed later, on how he gets boil release and becomes the leader.
>becomes the head of the Jashinists and starts to spread the secret of immortality, started putting his plans for world chaos into action earlier this year
>you, the leaf, and basically every world government work together to try and fuck him over. He manages to start a civil war in the Mist, recently, by framing the government for something they didn't do via releasing an edited video on television/the web
>current situation a couple months later, he's got no issue getting scrubs to join him but after Makoto and Otozawa getting ganked he's lacking in terms of pure muscle for captains. Recruitment efforts are put into overdrive. Still has Tomoko and Asuka as captains. Has several other bids for power currently in progress
>>
>>1213121
I assume us knowing he knows shadow clones was covered in his dossier, as was most the rest of this?
>>
>>1213146
You know he knows shadow clones from your personal encounter with him, initially.

>>1213197
Everyone around him right now is wearing casual clothing, and don't look particularly threatening. They're all young 20 somethings.

It's next to impossible to say if any of them are cultists, let alone rogue ninja cultists. There are certainly subordinates of his all over the building, though. It's just that they're mixed in with the civilian crowd.

Typical Jashinist tricks.
