We are Sirena Le Doux and we seek revenge against our former master. So far, we've grown more powerful, but there is much more to learn. With our list of allies and teachers slowly growing, we won't stop until we've reached the top, because that's where our former master waits.

Continuing right from where we left off, our hero found herself in a competition to become the next Witch Queen: the Black Gauntlet. Thrown into another realm with only her magic and her wits against thirty other competitors who desperately want the title as much as she, we must now survive in a deadly game of... well, death!

You send the amazon, the least-damaged of your current minions, out to act as bait and walk around the chamber beyond the one you are in. Despite this, a few hours pass and no one takes the bait. Having healed yourself through your meditation spell to perfect condition, you begin to wonder what is going on. How many are left? Have the others all gone their separate ways, or have some teamed up? Perhaps those who remain are in hiding, as you are, licking their wounds from the first round of casualties...

Standing up, you poke your head out into the massive chamber you left the amazon undead to wander in.

"I hope you have a better plan than this," your newest servant, Perilynth by name and a former competitor until your genie decapitated her, calls out. You look back at the undead head carried by her body and shrug. "How can you hope to win if you don't hunt the others? You're only giving them more time to prepare."

"More time for me to prepare as well," you say, returning to the small chamber and sitting back down. "Don't get impatient now just because you've already lost. Really, I don't know why they let you enter this contest in the first place, seeing as how the rules were 'everyone else but the winner must be dead' and you were already dead."

She sticks out her tongue at you as she is placed in her own lap.

Pouring out the bones from your sack, you cast your spell and summon the skeleton. You take some time to arrange a trap outside, with your four minions strategically placed around the chamber to both alert you if someone is coming and to get the jump on them. "What's to stop me from giving away your position?" Perilynth threatens.

"Because I'm your only chance at life. Or unlife. Continued existence, let's go with that." You give her a pat on the head as her body holds it up and she rolls her black eyes. "After all, the others would all kill you. So like it or not, you're stuck with me!"

After proceeding back into your room, you get comfortable and start reading your spellbook.

It's about three hours later when it happens. You are caught completely off-guard, and for a moment you are terrified that you have been found by a rival mage. But you haven't. Light fills the chamber and Faye appears before you, alongwith Boris and Francis (smuggled in her rack).

"Faye!" you say, leaping up and hugging her, squishing the rat between you and she. "How did you find me?"

"Mr. Whiskers is to thank for that," she says with a smile. "After he found a way into Aran, our special connection took care of the rest."

"Oh, I could kiss you right now."

She bats her eyelids. "Why don't you?"

"Because there's still perhaps two dozen mages running around out there trying to kill me, and you're just as good as me. So let's come up with a plan."

Francis scampers out of her breasts and lands on the ground, but doesn't come out of rat form. You lead them into the main chamber and show them your minions. Faye picks up Perilynth's head and tosses it up and down. "Wow! Look at her go!"

"Stop it!" Perilynth cries. "Put me down this instant! I will not suffer this indignity!"

Her body catches her head and holds her up. She looks at Faye. "Oh, there's two of you. How perfect."

No we got reinforcements, try to to put them to use. Maybe tell Faye and Boris to try and hide, as not to give away our new advantage? I agree with Peril, being a camper is a sub-optimal strategy. Best to be stealthy and stay on the move so you can't be pinned down.

You kneel down to look at Francis. "I'm sure there are lots of places around here you could reach that we couldn't. Won't you scout around?"

The rat, maintaining his cover, nods and scampers away.

You, Faye, Boris and your undead now go on the hunt, the two of you walking side-by-side with your undead all following not too far behind.

Less than an hour later, as you enter a new structure and walk beneath a great archway, you and Faye come face-to-face with two more competitors, a druid and a northern shaman.

You and they both go at the ready and hold up staffs. They stare you down adn you they, waitng to see who makes a move.

"Let's not kid ourselves," the druid, an attractive young woman who clearly comes from a more civilized background than her power set would imply, speaks with a fair accent. "We know we're going to kill each other. But there are bigger fish out there in need of catching first, woudln't you agree?"

You and Faye look at each other, knowing this could be a trap. On the one hand, if it isn't, two more competitor hunters could be useful.

"I assume you mean the dragon," you call out to them. "If so, then I agree."

The druid and the shaman approach, but slowly. You look over at your twin and whisper, "Any thoughts?"

She casts a quick spell. "That one," she nods towards the druid. "I can see trouble surrounding her. Something about water... us getting sick."

Your eyes narrow. 'She means to poison our supplies. Take down the dragon, then it's easy pickings. If we weren't here to kill each other, I'd like her. Best to not give her the chance.'

You follow the lead of the nothern woman, who is tracking some kind of strange substance. You and Faye remain on your guard at all times around the druid, who occasionally glances your way.

"I know who you are, you know," she says. "I'm from Dragodia. I don't intend to turn you in for the bounty, however."

"How kind of you."

"Civilization and its trappings no longer holds my interest nor does their gold," she explains. "Still, I have heard of you."

"Curious, I was just thinking how I haven't heard of you at all."

"And which is preferable in your situation?" she counters. The rest of the way they walk in silence.

The four of you stop when you hear a sound up ahead, echoing through some of the halls. It sounds like a soft sobbing.

"Could be a trick," you note. "An illusion."

"Sounds real," the northerner says. She sniffs their air and listens. "Smells like elf tears. Sounds like elf crying."

"You can tell?" Faye asks, impressed.

You all hold back and wait not far away. Again you look to Faye, who takes a moment to cast a spell.

"It is an elf with pale skin and white hair," she says, divining the location up ahead.

"I saw her earlier. What is she doing?"

"She is bound to the wall with some kind of resin. Crying. Wait... wait... Someone is coming."

"Here, or there?"

"There. A short person... a dwarf. Taunting the elf."

Suddenly, a noise is heard even by you; a painful scream. Faye winces slightly. "Oh, ouch."

"What happened?"

"She split open and bugs poured out onto the dwarf. She's dead." You hear a series of screams from a lower tone. "Well, dying."

"That insect used her as a trap. Didn't kill her. Insidious thing..."

"Good thing we didn't look," the druid comments. "Let's get a move on."

However, for the remainder of the time being, nobody else is found. Eventually the group comes to a halt in one of the smaller halls with very few entrances and rests.

"I don't suppose any of us trust the others enough to sleep in shifts."

"No need," you reply, snapping a finger. Perilynth walks up. "Perilynth, be a dear and keep watch, won't you?"

She scowls. "I hope someone comes along the in the night and chokes you."

"Manners, dear," you pat her on the head. "Now, let's get a good rest."

You and Faye pick a spot off to one side and huddle close while the druid and the northerner stay apart along the opposite wall. Your undead make for good guards at each possible entry point.

>Sleep...

You awaken to find that nothing happened in the night. Your party is still together, and after a moment of packing up you continue on your way.

It is in a large, dark chamber, one that resembles a cathedral, that you encounter your next great opposition. You first know something is wrong when, upon entering, all of your undead stop following.

You look back. "Come," you order, but they do not listen.

"Thank you for doing the work for me, and for delivering them," a voice calls out. You look up and arm yourself as a figure descends from the ceiling. Your eyes widen when you realize it is a beautiful girl, or perhaps, half a beautiful girl. The other half is missing skin and shows rotting organs, musculature and bones.

The lich holds up a small hand; she appears to have been quite young when she died. "Your creations are mine now. Let me show you the true power of necromancy, which you have only played at."

You look back and see your undead, Boris included, look at your group.

"I think we have a problem," Faye whispers urgently.

"Faye, holy magic!"

"Got it!" She takes out a holy symbol and holds up to the lich, and begins a chant. The druid and the northwoman charge in.

As you focus on trying to get control of your undead, fighting the lich's mental influence from your minions, Faye blasts her with a ray of light. The lich holds up her cloak to block the attack, but it does allow you to regain control over your minions.

At least, until two hooves land nearby and you are tackled to the ground.

>>1213673

The satyr girl atop you licks her lips while taking you in with red eyes. "You look like tasty prey."

"I've been known to taste well," you reply, putting both hands on her belly and pushing. She is blasted off by your forceful push, and you look up to see the lich hurling a bolt of creeping darkness at Faye's feet. This both causes pain and keeps her rooted to the spot.

You use your final instance of Soul Rend, casting it upon the lich! Unprepared to have such a power thrown at her, she takes the full effect and flees up towards the ceiling as it tears at the anchor of her body.

Looking back, you now see the satyr fighting the druid. It seems she is some kind of illusionist, because she throws out her hands and three copies of herself appear, with only one being real. The druid points her staff at the ground and vines spring up to wrap around the feet of the real one, sensed by the ground itself.

You hear another noise, some kind of battlecry. Following it, you see a green elf and a woman with the lower half of a snake slither into the arena, with the green one riding the snakelady's shoulders. They both rush to join the brawl.

'Oh, hell,' you think to yourself. 'Now this is a fight.'

As the lich runs, you look up and cast your divination spell of detect weakness. Upon doing so, you learn that the lich can be permanently killed by finding her phylactery and destroying it.

'Maybe I needn't destroy it, but I can force you to do my bidding!' you think. You grab Faye and send the undead out of the room, having successfully freed them from the grip of the lich with the last use of your Spirit Rend. You make for the exit with her, right up until you feel something curl around your leg and trip you.

You are dragged backwards where you suddenly find yourself curling up in the coils of the snake woman. She wraps her entire tail around you with a speed you cannot anticipate before bringing you face-to-face with her yellow eyes.

"Running sssomewhere?" she asks, a long and thin tongue sliding out from her lips to caress the sides of your face. "Perhapsss we could find a corner and I could make of you a little sssnack."

She then opens her eyes wide and blasts you with waves of hypnotic thralldom; luckily, you have a strong resistance to such things and struggle against her. Nearby, Faye stops running and looks back, then prepares a spell.

You begin to mutter the incantation to your arcane strike, when suddenly she realizes you are not falling for her hypnosis. Switching tactics, she shoves her tongue into your mouth, curling around your teeth so you cannot bite. Your eyes go wide as she holds onto your face, forcing your mouth open.

A strange sensation... Numbness follows. You realize she is numbing your mouth so you cannot cast spells!

Faye suddenly casts a bright flare that causes the snake to hiss and uncoil you, dropping you to the floor. Faye grabs your shoulders and pulls you back, whereupon you and she manage to escape from the brawl.

"Il wunngh thine thzzt fphylucktree," you say to her.

"You want to what my WHAT?" Your tongue flops uselessly out of your mouth and Faye giggles. "Well, you can't with your tongue like that!"

"THAYE!"

"Alright, alright, I can fix this, give me a moment..."

She casts a restorative spell of antitoxin upon you. After a moment, your tongue turns back to normal. "Finally," you say.

Faye leans over and kisses you, just to see if it is working. "Yup. Definitely working," she smiles.

"Enough of that. We're here to fight, not to fuck."

"That snakelady was sure giving you the business," she says, raising and lowering her eyebrows.

"Focus! I found out that lich bitch has her phylactery here with her somewhere. We find that, we control her."

"I'm on it!" she replies, getting into a good position for her divination ritual. After a while, her brow furrows. "Damn. I can't quite pin it down... It's got wards on it."

"Figures she'd want to protect it from scrying or theft. What can you tell me?"

"Shush. I'm working."

As she sits in the corner, you suddenly feel a strange, ethereal cold come over you. You stand up and turn around, looking up as an angellic being floats through the wall.

"What have we here?" she says in an echoing tone. "Two lost little lambs. Lambs to the slaughter."

The shadowy angellic-like being draws a black blade and floats closer, her feet hovering over the ground. Faye is busy doing her ritual, you must protect her!

You throw up your hands, casting an illusion! The angellic being falls for your trick -- 'I wonder what she is? An actual angel, or just angel-blooded? Ah, well, it's all the same.' -- and attacks a fake you as you summon the genie. While you do this, you blast her with an arcane bolt that keeps her at bay.

Raniya leaps from her bottle, ready to dance, and dance she does. Her blades find the black blade of the shadow-being, striking her over and over. They are both skilled, and that's before magic comes into play. The genie's fire follows her feet wherever she lands, and her foe conjures forth shadows to strike at her with blades of darkness.

The genie is faster, however. Her senses are supernatural; it's like she knows what is going to happen before it actually does.

'And Francis used her as entertainment... that lecherous fool.'

Raniya scores a critical hit when she twists and stabs the shadow-angel in the belly. Her bright eyes go wide and she slips back on a mote of darkness, sliding into the shadows and through the wall. Another retreat.

'Well, it's not like I haven't been doing the same thing.'

"Coward!" the genie shouts, sliding away her blades. You approach her from behind a place a hand on her shoulder.

"Fret not. She'll die, if not by our hand then another's."

"I do not like those who run from a fight," she replies.

"And you fight so well," you say, giving her an appreciative once-over.

The genie seems to swell with pride. "I am glad you find my service to your liking, mistress."

"Oh, I do," you say, trailing a hand up her arm. "And I'll need more of it in the future. There are others here trying to kill me and Faye. But you'll protect us, won't you?"

"It is my duty."

"And your pleasure?"

Her eyes seem to sparkle like flames. "That as well."

After sending her back into the bottle, you return to Faye.

"Alright, I think I have it," she says. "It is a good distance away... Should we check on the others? See how that battle is going?"

You and your undead follow Faye through the labyrinthine corridors. Up winding stairs and down descending passages, she takes you to a very lower level.

"She's hid it well. It's obscured not only by location, but by spells. We'll have to be--"

She stops when suddenly an explosive rune goes off, knocking her to the floor!

You pull her back and cast a spell of arcane sight; the walls are covered with arcane runes of explosive magic!

"Hahahahaha!" a voice cackles. "Two little birds, caught in my trap!" You catch a glimpse of something pale slipping between two nearby pillars. She looks like a lizard of some kind. "What ever will they do now?"

Suddenly, an explosive with a lit fuse rolls out. You and Faye both go wide-eyed and she puts up a shield, barely stopping the explosion. The lizard's cackling echoes throughout the chamber as she prepares more alchemical weapons. Looking back the way you came, you see that she has activated trap runes there as well, keeping you and your undead in this area.

As she throws another bomb, you forcefully push it back. Having not anticipated this, she leaps off to one side as it explodes, setting off a small chain reaction. You and Faye hide behind a shield as half of the room goes up in flames.

You open your eyes and follow the trail of the lizardwoman, firing arcane bolts and trying to get her to leap into her own trap. But it fails, and she loses your sight amongst the pillars. There, she begins to plot her next move.

'Damn! I want to use my minions, but I can't afford to have them be blown up... putting them back together would take too much time!'

You suddenly spot the lizard crawling near the ceiling, carrying a new bomb!

You reach out with a forceful noose, but she leaps onto the floor. Holding the bomb, she hurls it at you!

Another forceful push sends it flying back towards her. She curses and is about to jump but finds she cannot! She runs into an invisible bubble. You look back and see Faye with her hands up, holding a shield... around the lizard!

The lizard looks down at the bomb and desperately tries to get out of the bubble of arcane force, but Faye grins madly and doesn't let her. She lets out a scream as it explodes, consuming the inside of the bubble with fire. Faye laughs maniacally as the fire consumes the lizard, leaving nothing but a well-cooked corpse behind.

When she releases the bubble, smoke pours out in all directions. Faye claps her hands and bounces in place. "What fun! We should have deathmatch tournaments more often!"

"Good work," you compliment her. You have to admit, it was effective. You get her to calm down and continue leading you towards the phylactery. Several more chambers and hallways are crossed.

'This place is a nightmare of trying to get where you're going,' you think. 'Would a kill anyone to have a SIGN anywhere?'

As you run around a corner, you see a goblin mage chasing a fishlady. The fishlady is taller and faster but out of options. The goblin, her stumpy little legs carrying her as fast as she can go, casts more spells at the fleeing fish.

"I'm gonna cook you up and have me fish for dinner!" the goblin cries with glee, shooting a lightning bolt from her staff. Neither of them seems to have noticed you.

You cast your spell and begin to draw the life force out of the fishwoman. She trips and falls, and the goblin turns and looks at you. "Hey! She's mine! Get your own!"

"Sorry, shortstack."

"Oh you are in for it now!" She fires a lightning bolt, which is blocked by Faye's abjuration. You hurl an arcane bolt at the goblin, who blocks it in turn with her staff.

"Hah! You think that will stop me? Think again!"

She teleports away with a flash of lightning, ending up behind you. She lets loose with more lightning that Faye blocks.

'What am I doing?' you think to yourself. 'I have minions!'

Boris walks up behind the goblin, too wrapped up in gleefully blasting away at you to notice. She notices when he picks her up and holds her in one hand.

You leave the goblin to struggle in fear for a moment as Faye teases her. You walk up to the fish lady, and begin to drain her life. You place your hand on her head.

"Now who are you?"

Her eyes go wide as you drain her, body and soul.

"An exile from your homeland... Hah. We have more in common than you know. Such a pity."

She dies a moment later. A shame that you couldn't extract anything too useful from her before she died other than some images of her underwater home. That leaves the goblin.

You walk up to her and place your hand on her head. "Get off!" she shouts.

"Let's see what you can tell me."

As you take her memory, your mind is suddenly filled with the image of a man, here in the contest! Francis! It seems the goblin spied upon an amazing battle. The archmage and the red dragon! She transformed from her humanoid form into her amazing glorious draconic visage and breathed fire upon him, but he stood in it protected by his magic and cast spells back at her.

"Francis has been busy. I guess he dropped his disguise to fight the dragon, but so did she."

Faye pouts. "Oh, I bet he's having all the fun! No fair!"

You take your hand off her head. "Ah, it's just as well. Boris, snap her neck."

"NO, WAIT!"

A snap later, and a little limp goblin body is reanimated as your newest servant, alongside a dead fishlady.

"I hope that one doesn't start to smell," Faye says in disgust.

Nearby, Perilynth sighs. "Oh, good, more corpses to parade behind you. Shall we also carry you upon our backs?"

"That sounds like fun!" Faye says, jumping into Perilynth's arms, causing the body to drop the head.

"Hey! Pick me back up!" she demands as she rolls away.

You roll your eyes and hold up a single gold coin, taken from your stash, now containing the goblin's soul. It's not as elegent as a gemstone, but it will do for now until you can transfer it to something more useful later on. You put the coin into an individual pocket for safe-keeping.

Boris, Perilynth, hobgoblin, goblin, amazon and fishlady. Six minions so far, and rising, not counting your skeleton who is kept by different magic. Along with your genie, that's quite a collection of bodyguards. You've profitted nicely from this battle so far. Faye picks up the goblin's staff, which is more like a rod for her, and spins it around her fingers.

Within a darkened chamber, there is an empty bowl hanging from the ceiling by white chains. Sensing a trap, you send your hobgoblin in first, whereupon the corpse is utterly eradicated; a warding spell turns the body to dust where it stands.

"That's problematic," you think aloud. "And I just lost a minion! Faye, what is there to be done?"

"We need only find the rune that the spell is tied to and destroy it. Scratch it out, wash it away, something."

You and she carefully poke your heads in and look around, but see it nowhere. It is exceptionally well-hidden.

Casting your spell of arcane sight, however, reveals the truth. She wrote it upon a wall, then covered it up with an illusion, then covered it up with a tapestry. Using your ring of minor telekinesis, you remove the tapestry and then you and Faye work together to blast the wall where the rune is written. With the trap destroyed, you and she proceed into the room, stepping over a small pile of hobgoblin dust.

Looking up, you turn into your air form and fly to the bowl. Within is a purple gemstone which can only be it. You carefully study it for any further traps, and determine it to be a gemstone meant to hold a soul... but something seems wrong.

"What is it?" Faye calls from below.

"I am not sure," you reply. "But something is... off. Like this was too easy, even despite the difficulty."

You use your ring to lift the stone up, and nothing happens. No trap appears to be on the bowl itself.

A moment of identifying magic and you find the answer.

'If I picked that up, it would try to steal my soul. A nice try. This is a DECOY phylactery! I bet you were thinking that someone would just grab it, eager to gain control of you.'

"This lich is a clever one, but so am I," you say, drifting down with the soul-stealing gem suspended by your telekinesis. "She set this room up specifically to seem like it was the hiding place. Quite a bit of effort for a decoy..."

Faye puts a finger on her lips. "Hmm... But then where could the real one be?"

"Perhaps it isn't here after all. I haven't done enough research on liches to learn if they can return to their phylactery from across planes... Or maybe she's hidden it somewhere even more well-hidden."

>>
>>1215271
The real phylactory is likely here, the lich need to remain on this plane to win without dying. Thus it needs to be here, it can't be on her otherwise it might be destroyed on her death.

The phylactory needs to be somewhere on the plane, away from the lich, and defended. This room is designed to defend it, so it's here, assuming the lich didn't have time to set up a second room.

Next theory is "one for them to find and one for you to keep." The real phylactory is probably hidden here.

Look for a box, the traditional phylactory is a box with filled with enchanted parchment. No one notices the box when there's a shiny gemstone.

My advice, blow the room up and see what survives.

If the lich respawns off plane, she looses. If she wants to win despite death, it needs to be on plane.
Also why bother setting up a trap room if you didn't bring the phylactory? The start of the death match is the most dangerous time, setting up a trap is a massive investment of time in that moment, she had to find this room after all.

My point, the presence of the room suggests the real one is here, otherwise it's a waste of resources, despite the value of the trap.
>>
>>1215647
she'd survive to live another day & usurp us, it not neccesarilly a do or die situation for her

"See if you can't divine its true location," you tell Faye as you make Boris hold onto the soul-stealing gem, which may come in handy later. As Faye sits down and attempts to use her magic, you look around the room.

'If the lich didn't bring her phylactery, meaning she could be reborn outside of the competition, that would mean she could later usurp the Witch Queen. But, if one were to take the risk of bringing it here, now is the best chance to win the competition. Dying and respawning in the contest itself could mean that she would simply outlast her foes. But that would mean having the phylactery here...'

You look around the chamber, then back at the hobgoblin. 'Why set up such an elaborate trap unless you expected someone to come here, looking for your phylactery? And furthermore, with the false gem in place, but the divination ritual brought us here in the first place, you would be counting on us to assume it is some kind of decoy. But what if that was your intention all along? A double decoy, as it were?'

Kneeling down, you run your hand across the stone floor. 'Which can only mean... the real phylactery IS here!'

"Faye."

She stops her chanting. "What? I was busy looking!"

"No need. It's here."

"What? How do you know?"

You take out your lucky coin and call 'Heads'. After flipping it and slamming it onto your other wrist, you reveal it to be, in fact, heads.

Your smile is wide. "Because I'm standing on it."

You kneel down and find a loosened brick in the corner where you were standing. Completely innocent-looking and utterly, completely nondescript in nature. A detail that would completely go right by the eye of even a trained treasure hunter. But not you, and not with your magic coin, especially since you called the right side.

Digging your fingers around it, you lift it up to reveal a hollowed-out hole and within it, a sparkling purple gem with a golden light. You lift it up, unafraid of it being a trap, because you know this is the real deal.

"A lich under my power. Now what can stop me from winning?"

"There is that dragon," Faye says.

"I'm sure Francis has taken care of her."

"Let's see what fun things we can learn..."

You kiss the phylactery, imparting it with the same magic that you put into your kisses, and you begin to sense emotions within. You discover that you can, in fact, influence her. Wherever she is she must feel strange; emotions that she hasn't felt in a very, very long time suddenly surface and overwhelm her. You continue to kiss the phylactery, dulling her senses with an overload of emotion.

"That's messed up," Perilynth mutters from nearby, and you have her body put a hand over her mouth.

Now you begin you drain memories from the phylactery. Recent encounters, such as your fight with her, become available to you. You see that she has seen others die, and resurrected many of them as undead. You also learn her current location, having seen where she and her minions are.

And now she knows someone has her phylactery. 'The fool shouldn't have risked bringing it,' you think, slipping it into a safe place.

You travel straight to her location with Faye and your minions. Through use of your and Faye's divination, it isn't hard to find her, especially since you can control her with the phylactery. You meet her in a tomb-like structure full of empty stone coffins, resembling a ritual burial chamber.

She stares at you unexpresively as you approach. Placing your hands on your hips, you look upon her and smile.

"Kneel."

Reluctantly, she does so, getting on her knees before you.

"You serve me now. I am your queen, and you will help me win the Witch Queen competition. Understood?"

"...Yes."

"Good. I'm glad we have that cleared up. Your minions are now my minions, but you can feel free to continue using them."

She remains silent as you lord over her, content in knowing that your victory must now be all but assured with the lich and her minions working for you.

She doesn't reply. With Faye's divination, it doesn't take long to find Francis. As you and your party approach the area he is in, he stumbles out, his robe half-hanging off of his nude and sweaty body. He runs a hand through dirty hair and looks over. "Oh, hey guys."

You narrow your eyes. "Francis. What have you been up to? You were supposed to come back from scouting hours ago!"

"I've been busy!" he insists. "Do you have ANY idea what I've done for you? Burns aren't easy to deal with, you know!"

"And what is that supposed to mean?"

He points back into the room he just came out of. You and Faye poke your head in to see a blanket, obviously summoned, on the ground, and upon it lies a very satisfied girl with dark skin, fiery red hair and horns.

"Is that..."

"The dragon, yeah." He takes a deep breath and wipes his brow again. "You have no idea how hard it is to do what I just did, Sirena. You're fucking WELCOME."

You pat him on the shoulder. "Well, Francis, if there's one thing that can be said about you, you're a trooper. Was that your first dragon?"

"What? Oh, hell no. Just my first red one. You can't start out at red, Sirena, you have to work your way up. There's a heiarchy of dicking dragons and I just crossed red off my bucket list."

You look in and see that she seems asleep. "She seems extremely out of it. Can we kill her?"

"If you want. I already slayed her," he says with a lecherous smile.

'I suppose you have your uses after all, Francis. Not bad.'

Make the lich steal her soul, francis teleports her out, and when we get back to the real world, we can give her her soul back and have a dragon in our debt!
>>
>>1216006
>Enslave the dragon
>Let Francis teleport her out of here and out of the competition
Its mind should be in a very impressionable state now that Francis quite literally fucked her stupid. We can put it under our control as a sleeper agent of sorts before sending it back out into the real world. When we encounter the dragon again or have need of her services, we can immediately reassert control. Plus, teleporting her out of the world disqualifies her from the competition.

Remember the long game. Nothing says "trump card" like a pocket red dragon when you need one.
>>
>>1216006
>>Let Francis teleport her out of here and out of the competition
That's still a fucking dragon. A very satisfied dragon admittetly, but she will know notice if we try to sneak up on her and steal her soul. We don't need to fight her know, we've basically won if she leaves.

You look at Francis. "You want to keep her?"

He shrugs. "Eh. I'm kind of a one-and-done guy, honestly. I kind of lose respect and get bored with every woman I'm with. That's why I like our relationship; we just have fun."

"No wonder so many women are upset with you."

"What can I say? I'm an attractive guy."

"...Not what I meant. Anyway, if you don't want her, I do."

"I figured you might. Got a plan?"

You walk Boris over and show him the gem. "Use this. Take her soul, so I can enslave it later. Then teleport her and you out of here."

"You sure?" he asks, levitating the gem over.

"You can't be around for when the contest ends, and neither can she. A dragon that I can call upon will be very useful for when I am Witch Queen."

"Alright. You know she's definitely pregnant now, right? Just putting that out there."

Faye chimes in. "More like putting that IN there! Haha!"

You roll your eyes at Faye's joke and respond to Francis. "Yes, I figured as much. Perhaps the child will be useful. You don't seem like much of a fathering type."

He shrugs. "Gotta spread the bloodline, but I'm not a fan of looking after it."

You reach over and hold his hand. "Francis, you are a depraved, filthy pervert with far too much power and not nearly enough respect for it."

"And?'

"And I'm glad you're on my side. Now go on, get out of here."

He walks into the chamber with the dragon, and with a big flash of light, teleports them both out, disqualifying her from the games.

"She's going to be mad, you know," Faye points out.

"Well with her soul in that gem we'll have plenty of time to correct that. I could drain her memories, enslave her mind. Once we start giving girls to Vincent I'll learn plenty of mind-controlling spells and she'll be ours. Hell, with a half-dragon child on the way, there's one use for her already."

Perilynth pipes up. "I just want to say that your strategy for winning is disgusting."

The lich concurs. "I concur."

"Quiet, you two. You gave up your bodies and the advantages they bring. But maybe, in time, we'll fix that... For now, I have a title to win."

Not to mention that we are bound to face an enemy that can see past illusions or smell that we are alive.

You head into the chamber that Francis bedded the dragon in for a proper rest. You set your undead as guards. The lich volunteers to go hunting for more competitors, but you know better; likely she would try to convince them to come and kill you. Until she is fully under your control, she isn't going anywhere.

Rest allows you to prepare some more spells, which you will need for future confrontations. When you feel sufficiently rested up and fully healed, you and Faye leave with your undead entourage in tow, confident in your chances.

Once more, you are on the hunt for other competitors.

You and your group enter a large room where you encounter a single, lone dark elf. This is the first time you have beheld one of these creatures; her beautiful and exotic obsidian skin reminds you of volcanic glass, and her hair is white as snow. She fixes red eyes upon you and stands unafraid, daring you and your group to come at her.

"This is the part where you usually run away," you say with a smile. Your group speads out, but she doesn't run.

Instead, she merely smiles. "Why run, when you've already gone through the trouble of coming right to me?"

You shrug. "Suit yourself. Get her."

But nothing happens. You blink a few times and look to your left and right, realizing that they are all standing still. Perfectly still. As in, non-responsive to even waving your hand in front of their face.

"What the..."

"You like?" the dark elf says with a smile, waving her staff around. "Time magic. I have taken away your advantage in numbers. Now it's just you and I, suspended in this moment until one of us falls."

"Couldn't you have frozen me as well, and killed me?"

"The magic doesn't work like that. I have placed us in this moment until one of us dies. But I don't mean to merely kill you, I want to enslave you. To drive you before my feet and have you lick my boots."

"We'd make good friends."

"We'll make even better enemies." She picks up her staff and holds it aloft. "Shall we?"

'There must be a way to make her break this spell,' you think. Your hands glow and you and she prepare to fight. 'But if it is just us suspended in this moment, then that means my genie should be as well if I summon her.'

Step one is getting close. You charge in beneath her volley of opening arcane spells, sliding across the ground. You manage to just barely touch her ankle, imparting a curse of lowered intellect upon her!

The dark elf shouts and hops back, trying to cast a spell but failing to remember the words. She instead relies on her magical items to attack with, blasting you with a beam from her necklace. Thankfully, you are able to take cover before it can hit you as she slices the wall nearby.

>>1216220

Having done that, you take out your lamp and rub it. The genie pops out a moment later, unaffected by the time spell.

"Dark elf! Go! Kill!"

She nods and leaps up.

>>1216221

You pop up and see the dark elf attempt to create a wall of force between her and the genie, but with your curse on her, she fumbles one of the words. This gives you an opportunity to push her back with your magic while hitting her with an arcane bolt.

She is pushed against the wall where your genie stabs her in the gut. She withdraws her blade and steps back. You walk up alongside her as the dark elf slides to the ground.

"H... How?" she gasps, looking up at you.

"I'm just that good," you say with a smile. "That time magic of yours was impressive, however... I would like to know more about it." You kneel in front of her and put a hand on her head. "You will serve me..."

"Damn you..." she says, closing her eyes. "I'll get back at you for this..."

"I think not." As she slips into death, you capture her soul in another coin, putting her in the same pocket as the goblin. With her death, the time spell ceases to function and everyone returns to normal.

Faye blinks. "What happened?"

"Someone thought they could be the better of me," you say, bringing the dark elf's corpse back to life under your thrall. "The last mistake she ever made."

"Oh. I missed it? How boring. Can I fight the next one?"

"Sure."

Next, your party comes upon the northwoman you briefly teamed up with earlier facing off against a savage orc shaman. The large, green-skinned and feral mage fights fiercely, as does the northwoman. They appear to be a nearly evenly matched, but the strength of the orc's magic seems to be beating her out.

Having given Faye your permission, she quickly summons up four powerful elemental beings and sends them to attack the two mages. The orc and the northwoman are soon overwhelmed and forced into submission by the onslaught of the four elementals.

"Good job!" Faye compliments her servants. She forces them to bring the orc and the northwoman before you. "Here you go, Sirena!"

The orc spits at you. "I won't be your slave!" she says in a rough tongue. The northwoman seems to agree with her.

"Well, you don't have much of a choice," you say with a smile. "If this weren't a fight to the death, things would be different, you understand. Maybe. If I was in a good mood. But as it stands, you two simply have no choice but to follow me. Don't worry, though, I'll be keeping your souls nice and safe... until I have further use of them."

A few minutes later, you have two new minions, along with two new souls safely tucked away. With eight zombies under your control, not counting the lich, you're nearly at your limit. You cast your spell of speak with undead to get them to follow you more closely and you're off once more.

"Nice work back there, Faye," you compliment her.

"It's no different from what you do, really. Get others to do the work for you."

"Hmm... Lay on your back." She does so, and you put your boot on her neck. "Now, lick my heels. Beg me for mercy."

This infuriates her to no end, but she does as she is told. Surrounded by a dozen dead women and at your mercy, she has little choice. When she finishes, she looks up at you. "Alright. Now let me show you."

"Tempting, but I can just rip the knowledge out of your head. Sorry, sweetheart. The only thing waiting for you is pain."

Her brow furrows. "Well then, get it over with! We all knew the risks signing up. The only thing I'm sorry about is losing to a pathetic witch like you!"

"Faye, she's all yours." You amuse yourself with watching Faye's torments as you take your time draining her life, and when she is dead, you place her soul into a coin, making that five souls in your pocket, plus the phylactery. When the time comes and you are crowned, you will greatly enjoy whatever you plan to do with that easterner.

"This is going so swimmingly," you say with a smile. "Nine servants, and only one more left. Then you will start collecting them, my lichly friend. Now come along. The lich raises her hand and begins to fill the room with choking dust. Not only does this affect the shadow girl, but you as well!

'Of course! All alone, the lich means to kill me and take the phylactery!'

>>1216991

Against this choking dust, you find yourself unable to speak. The lich, unaffected by such things, drifts over and prepares to recover her phylactery.

"You shouldn't have tried to control me. Now I will destroy you and play with your soul like a--"

Suddenly, her eyes go wide. She lets out a scream as her body explodes due to an attack from behind. Faye, having used her most powerful holy spell, utterly annihilates the lich's body.

"Nice try, lich bitch."

Next, she blasts the shadow-girl with a less powerful but equally effective spell. The girl, already losing her body, is hit by a spell of banishment; this sends the entity consuming her back to its original plane, back to where That Which Never Sleeps remains, and it takes the girl with it as a sacrifice.

You lie, very nearly dead, as Faye runs over and begins to heal you. She puts your head in her lap.

"What happened?" you say when your throat clears. You grip the phylactery tightly.

"It's over, Sirena. The others are dead or captured. Our genie helped a lot. She's rounding them up for beheading."

You cough violently and Faye tends to you. "There, there," she whispers. "It's alright..."

Closing your eyes, you put your head back and try to breathe easily. You would be dead right now if it weren't for Faye, your genie, and Francis. They helped you win this contest. The powers you encountered here outclassed your own...

But thanks to your allies, you pulled through. Now she takes you upstairs, where to your pleasure you see that the high elf was one of those caught, alongside that desert priestess, whom the genie is talking to. They are from the same land, but not allied in any way. Even so, the desert priestess is being very polite and taking her defeat with dignity, and bringing the genie up to current events in her homeland.

The high elf is rude. "You'll regret this, Sirena Le Doux. My noble family will learn what happened here."

"Then they should learn what will happen if they cross me," you say.

She is disqualified automatically on account on her not being supposed to be in this realm in the first place yada yada yada. Also tell them you're gonna be very pissed at them if they make you kill your twin and that they won't like your first act as witch queen in that case.

Seriously? We've already established that people can forfeit by teleporting out (red dragon) and quite a bit of magical knowledge on hand. Just make a ritual to have Faye teleport back to the material.
>>
If that doesnt work we can maybe ask our genie if she can bring Faye into her lamp

"Hold it! She wasn't part of the tournament. She was summoned with magic! I, Sirena Le Doux, signed up. Not Faye Le Scivias!"

"Yeah, that's right!" Faye says, shouting up at the ceiling. "Plus, those two undead ladies were allowed to enter, and they're not even alive. So if the thing is that Sirena must be the last living person, then she is, because I am her reflection!"

"Technically speaking, I am the only person left alive who entered the tournament."

For a moment, there is silence. Then, the voice returns.

"The council has not faced this issue before. Please hold."

"Hold? HOLD? I am the winner! There is no HOLD! I am the new Witch Queen, and you do NOT want my first act to be to abolish this 'Council of the Witch Queen.' Then what will you do?"

"...Please hold."

"I think we should write a formal complaint," Faye suggests.

After several moments of pacing, there is a noise from above. You and Faye both look up as a portal opens, and from it descends a black crown with dark, lustrous gems set upon it.

And then... another one. Two crowns.

"Wait, what?" you ask aloud.

"The council has decreed that, due to she being your reflection and responsible for your life during the competition, you shall both bear the title of Witch Queen. For the first time in history, two shall bear the mantle at the same time and share their power."

"Share? We both only get half?"

"Yes."

"But she wasn't even in the contest!"

"Yet, you defend her as though she is yourself. If she is equally you and equally the victor, she deserves the power as much as you do."

"That wasn't my ONLY argument. I summoned her! It was my magic that brought her here!"

"The council observes that it was the magic of the one known as Francis who brought you to the realm of Aran, but it was a shared magical ability of teleporation that brought her to you. You no more summoned her than you can banish her now."

>No! I was the winner, I deserve all of the power!

For what it's worth, Faye, there's most likely an equivalent title in your dimension. I can always help you get the title in your world if you find out where to get it. You let me be the Witch Queen of my world, and I'll help you be the "Warlock Lord" of your world, or whatever.

When Faye goes back to her world, she may take half the power with her. Then we'd have to go help Faye earn an equivalent title in her world, and we'd split the power between us there, and then it becomes a big old mess.

>>

But then we might have to do another mini tournament to get the other half or some stupid shit. How do you run a divorce court and determine who gets custody of an alternate dimension of dark powers?
>>
>>1217215
Faye's main goal is to get home. We can't keep her here, because she's got her own court wizard to gank.

You look at Faye, and she looks at you until you both give a small shrug. Looking at the crowns, you both step forward, reach up and take one.

After placing it upon your heads, you and your minions are all transported out of the battleground. You now find yourself somewhere very different; some kind of underground civilization. This massive tunnel you are in stretches for an unknown distance, like a great bridge with buildings on many sides. Giant statues of chained figures can be seen, and from this raised platform the shapes of many people can also be glimpsed as they walk towards you.

The people of this realm, Aran, all of them cloaked in dark garments with hoods, kneel. Foremost among them are the white-clad council, with the red woman in the lead. They raise their hands, and with one great voice, chant, "All hail the Witch Queens. Long may they reign!" The people follow, bowing and chanting as one.

You begin to feel a new power seeping within you. Faye feels it as well, and as you look upon this extraplanar civilization and its people, both of which now serve you and your mirror twin, a smile comes to your face.

"All hail the Witch Queens," you say, looking at Faye. "Long may they reign."

She smiles back just as wide and takes your hand as you both go to meet your new subjects.
>>
>>1217219
Or she can just abdicate
>>
>>1217249

So, having survived our ordeal, we now have the shared powers of the Witch Queen.

In several hours, I'm leaving to get on a plane to head overseas. I'll be gone for some time. We won't have a thread for a while, obviously, until I get back.

During this time I'm going to write up some extensive plans in regards to our new powers and title and what they mean for us.

But, some ground rules:

>We can travel to our demiplane with a ritual, and head back to established locations (locations are established by ritual runes we must create)
>Drawing upon the power of our new realm, we can summon servants to help in a variety of tasks, from battle to mundane things
>Our power is boosted and we will have many new spells to choose from; our spellbook is going to expand not just from the knowledge of Aran, but the spirits under our control
>We can hide our powers and title as effectively as we could any other; our "good" allies will not know who we are
>In earning the title, we have earned the respect of many of the groups who sent competitors, but not their direct service; some may even consider us rivals, so there will be constant danger
>Aran is a separate realm from the one in which That Which Never Sleeps resides; so long as we hold the title, we are more protected from that realm's influence

That's about it for ground rules. I'll draft up more information about Aran by the time I return.

For those curious, the minions we gained from this battle, IE those who weren't destroyed utterly or killed by unresurrectable means are:

>Amazon
>Barbarian Woman (Lich minion)
>Catgirl (Soul Captured)
>Dark Elf (Soul Captured)
>Desert Priestess (Soul Captured)
>Eastwoman (Soul Captured)
>Fishlady (Soul Captured)
>Green Elf (Lich minion)
>Harpy
>High Elf (Soul Captured)
>Dragodia Battlemage (Lich minion)
>Lich (Phylactery)
>Night Elf
>Northwoman (Soul Captured)
>Orc (Soul Captured)
>Revenant (Perilynth, Soul in Head)
>Satyr (Lich minion)
>Serpent Woman (Lich minion)
>Westwoman (Lich minion)

The lich minions had no soul; she didn't keep them. The ones who are specified as neither soul captured nor lich minion also have no soul.

As I like to do each second thread, we'll hit a milestone.

>Milestone: Survived the Black Gauntlet and became Witch Queens of the Realm of Aran with Faye.

You know the drill: Vote for a school (or schools) of your choice.

But now, there is going to be a special-themed Witch Queen/Shadow Power for each school, reflected by our new title and the darkness shard inside of us from That Which Never Sleeps.

Abjuration
Conjuration
Divination
Enchantment
Thralldom
Evocation
Illusion
Holy
Necromancy
Transmutation
Restoration
Elementalism
Shamanism
Druidry

Yeah, but
>But now, there is going to be a special-themed Witch Queen/Shadow Power for each school, reflected by our new title and the darkness shard inside of us from That Which Never Sleeps.

That sounds pretty fucking nifty for Thralldom. And I want it nao
>>
>>1217347
>Conjuration

Hey damashi, if we get a new corpse, can we give the Lich a body? Not that we want or need to, just asking.
>>
>>1217395
But we've got a whole dimension full of shadowy minions to call upon now! Who would want to say no to extra bodies?
>>
>>1217347
Which school would encompass teleportation? The high elf was the one who really fucked us over, and I could see Sirena In-character wanting to get that power as a motivation for the milestone. Hell, she even said as much
>>
>>1217347
>Thralldom
Making more sloots is nice.
>>
>>1217423

Conjuration.

Transmutation would have a slight amount of overlap in this regard, as would druidry, but conjuration is for primary teleportation/summoning spells.
>>
>>1217423
As reiterated from previous threads: powers from milestones are not a reflection of what happened in the story. They are described as more knowledge from the Codex Arcana unraveling itself and manifesting in new unique abilities. You don't have to justify new powers by the events of the story.
>>
>>1217423
We may have learned teleportation from one of the souls we captured, so there is that.
>>
>>1217395
>>1217434
Nigger fuck off with that samefaggotry
>>
>>1217347

Thralldom
>>
>>1217439
Voting Conjuration then
>>1217445
I'm aware there doesn't HAVE to be a justification, but personally, it just feels wrong to not have a headcanon reason. I'd never vote for druidry, for example.
>>1217446
That's true, the high elf did know that. I think if we take the Conjuration milestone, we can then learn it from the high elf if that works, or just learn it ourselves, but we need the school.
>>
People want a Thralldom buff because Sirena is short on Thralldom spells right now and feel a little naked. We're on track to get more spells from Vincent in the near future, and once we have more spells, she'll be more confident in her ability to control and command others. In the meantime, getting a boost to Conjuration helps open new avenues for us, especially now that we're the Witch Queen. We've got a whole dimension's worth of dark minions and creepy crawlies we can call upon to do our bidding, and I love the image of these shadowy beasts stalking around Sirena's person like guard dogs.

People who want the Thralldom buff now are going to miss out on that Conjuration buff we could've gotten just because Sirena's Thralldom chapter in her spellbook is a little empty right now. Don't be so short-sighted.

Switching to thralldom
>>
>>1217498
Hello trick. Please consider >>1217481
's argument. Thank you.
>>
>>1217481
Bit late mate
>>
>>1217525
people can change their mind for a little while.
>>
>>1217514
The minion argument really doesn't appeal to me.

Necromancy provides minions.

Thralldom provides minions.

Conjuration provides minions.

We have a dragon and a lich at our beck and call. We don't need shaddowy hounds or whatever.

Conjuration provides us minions from dark world.

Thralldom makes sure we can create minions of the people we actually have to deal with on the day to day.
>>
>>1217530
I would emphasize that
>Sirena is short on Thralldom spells right now and feel a little naked. We're on track to get more spells from Vincent in the near future
I therefore believe that while we can get minions from both, we can get a brand new school+more spells from conjuration. I appreciate your consideration.
>>
>>1217530
Conjuration also provides teleportation (blinks, dimension doors, etc.).
>>
>>1217530
But this would get special witch servant minions. Different abilities to other minions. Its not just about bodies.
>>
>>1217537
>>1217540

Milestones really don't let you start learning from that school of magic though. They're just one and done things.

You'd have to choose between shadowy witch servants.

Or shadowy witch teleportation.

And then also you have no access to a conjuration school teacher so you wouldn't make any more progress.

And we've already got a teleportation spell as well as a twin who summons elemental servants.

it just seems redundant compared to thralldom which, depending on the milestone we pick, has a wider range of uses.
>>
>>1217556
>you have no access to a conjuration school teacher
Faye can show us the basics, and I'm sure the world of Aran will supplement that training further.
>>
>>1217561

So then we don't need to burn a milestone just to get started on conjuration.
>>
>>1217556
Well we don't know what it offers. Teleportation can have its own hoops, being more of a blink, Faye might not always be there, and if we get seperated from our minions, like happened with the cultist, then thralldom doesn't really help. A minion depending on its stats can be very useful, and very flexible.
>>
>>1217556
Isn't one of the milestone options
>Two basic spells?
So we could get shadow teleport (which sounds super useful) and shadow summon?
If two spells are not an option though then I'm certainly willing to reconsider my position
>>
>>1217569
yeah, but thats a boring pick, better to get something special.
But conjuration can be very fun regardless
>>
>>1217347
Thralldom all day erry day.

Specifically something to help against Vincents sudden but inevitable betrayal.
>>
>>1217564
It's not "getting started" on conjuration. It's providing a boon for when we can more fully take advantage of it.
Two of our milestones were resistances to their respective schools (Thralldom and Divination), and the third buff gave us a new spell-like ability to transform into an air elemental. A Conjuration-related boon can take a lot of different forms.

>>1217569
I'm pretty sure we're getting those spells naturally, now that we're the Witch Queen. Damashi said earning the title gave us a shitton of new spells and kickstarted a bunch of stuff.
>>
>>1217569
>>1217578
I'm a basics kind of guy, what can I say. If we got something like innate teleportation sense I would totally support it though
>>
>>1217578

So far the only form suggested are shadow beasts and that might be flavorful and appealing to certain people, you know kinda like in The Darkness.

But it doesn't appeal to me. I'd prefer Thralldom.
>>
>>1217591
>Reads The Darkness
Trick you know you can be a prickly sonuvabitch sometimes, but goddamit... i respect you.
>>
>>1217591

Demons, angels, devils, extraplanar entities, archons, elementals, all kinds of shit. And teleportation, and summoning weapons/items from nothingness/other planes.

Have some imagination.
>>
>>1217603
Plus, the sooner we work on Conjuration, the sooner we can send Faye home. We did promise we'd help her once we got more power in that respect.
>>
