In ages past men lived simpler lives - they would hunt, farm, fight and always respect the might of the Old Gods. Shamans led the clans with their elemental magic - so it was for many generations, before history was ever written down. The great hero Rog united a dozen human clans into a tribe that would form the foundation of our future Kingdom. One day Rog mysteriously vanished - then came the Great Storm - when it passed, the shamans could no longer feel the presence of the Gods and had lost the source of their magic.
The 1st Century After the Storm saw us becoming a proper civilization, beginning to accept the New Gods of the Pantheon and adopting technologies and customs from the east.
By the end of the 2nd century we were beginning to catch up to Paitras as larger wars were being fought.
The 3rd century saw the fall of Paitras and the rise of the Norse, with Roggar filling in much of the void left. By the end of the century most of Paitras had been reunited.
The 4th century saw the Pantheonic faith strengthen, defeating barbarians in both the north and south.
The 5th century started and ended with devastating plagues. 409-411 saw Roggar engaged in wars with itself and its neighbours, which ended in the foundation of the Holy Pantheonic Empire and an ensuing Golden Age for decades.
The 6th century was a century of blood and ash - the crusade against the Ashland Demons ended in the death of all who were there to witness it on either side. An invasion of the Kingdom of Ezirin led to wars across the continent that shook the Empire to the core and ushered in a new Dark Age. Following that, Roggar recovered and began progressing once more.
Last century we explored further southward, encountering new nations. We waged two wars against Ezirin, partially achieving our goals in both - liberating Lursar in the first and taking some lands in the second. This last war, which we fought in 681, scarred our nation deeply as many soldiers' lives were lost with little gain - we occupied Rekazir and the river valley leading up to it, but the Rhoznaxi Caliphate was able to eat up most of Ezirin after that war. The looming threat of the largest Empire the world has seen since the Storm led to a coalition of nine nations against Rhoznax being formed, with war being declared in Zemis of 722. Our initial push forward led to the Ezirin region being captured, but at the battles for Death's Valley and Darkpass we suffered heavy defeats as Anavark himself spearheaded the advance against us.
Revalations followed - the Man in Black revealed all he knew of the elvish conspiracy. We know that the essences of titans are used for the creation of Pillars of Heaven, constructs that strengthen the bridge between planes that allows the Pantheonic Gods to affect our world. Though seeing the sympathy of most of Roggar's lords, the Man in Black was executed on Emperor Swift-Hands' orders. At present, the pillar in Dominas and in the elvish capital are being repaired.

Food:
While the Kingdom of Ondalia still provides some amount of food supplies for our war efforts, the Zhongi advance into the north has put pressure on them, as well as depriving us of a fairly productive region, the western coast, and forcing us to open a new defensive front in Virinum.
The Rhoznaxi attacks on the Upper Longfork have left that region scarred, a drain on the economy at present.
We lost our entire war navy at port in Zhenzhuhei, naval trade beyond the Godsjaw is almost impossible.
The Goblin Plague and the Horse Pox, though both treatable now, caused damage as well - the county of Rograr lies in ruin, the Kingdom of Lursar is still reeling from the Pox.
Since the beginning of the war there are estimated to have been perhaps around 300 000 Roggarian lives lost. Almost that many people with normal proffesions are positioned on a war front, either as fighting troops or supporting staff. In some locations Anavarki infiltrators are still trying to spread Darkblights to poison the land.
We're strating to experience problems with food now - what should we do?
>>
>>1226434
Begin massive trade with the Anglanorse for foodstuffs
Begin a strict rationing campaign to control good consumption.
Have the Minister of Agriculture start organizing crops based on food production and phase out all luxury crops for the time being.

With several strategic maneuvers, the most brilliant of which was our Dragoncommander's Vance-inspired push forward, we caught one enemy army in encirclement and destroyed it completely, killing 20 000 and taking another 40 000 captive. Elsewhere smaller enemy forces have been routed, the enemy is in dissaray as we continue to chase them for some time, before halting north of Darkpass - the enemy sent some relief forces that repelled our pursuit.
Our supply lines being overextended as a result of the pursuit, we've had to take it slower after these victories. The territory of Ezirin, ravaged by war, is being captured gradually, with all the lands north of Bloodmist Valley being in friendly hands by the end of the year.

Winter is beginning to set in. Enemies still controll Darkpass and Bloodmist. What should we do during the winter?

As we're low on supplies and in danger of overextension, we should delay all further advances until spring.
Then in spring, after stockpiling supplies, we'll take both passes by force of arms, perhaps even teaching the Skullsplitter orcs who's number one.

1st of Abadid, 725
Winter is coming to a close now. The east saw the creation of a no-man's land in central Ezirin, where small battles and skirmishes were being fought. The elves managed to break the siege of Hasgaldam and evacuate the defenders - the desert is in enemy hands, elves and dwarves have defensive positions in the Ashlands now, while we hold the Paitran line. The Zhongi were largely kept in check in the west, making minimal advances along the coast. The enemy instead concentrate their efforts in the south, where the season didn't matter much - Drezvak has fallen, communication with Gajaxlan is rare now as they are trying to hold on to their isles.

We have deployed 240k fighting troops, 80k on each theatre, at present.

1st of Stomnis, the Imperial army is at Midenath, home of Marshall Jackard Tremas, leader of the Paitran forces. Paitran settlements south of Midenath have had to be evacuated - militia forces from there have been organized, some reinforcing Midenath, others being sent elsewhere.

This place will see battle soon, most likely, within the coming week.

It's afternoon now. The city is bustling with activity. An army of three hundred thousand, supported by many more thousands of non-combat forces, the camps spill out into the surrounding Fields of Stoman, where for centuries the armies of Paitras have trained for war and assembled for campaigns. The city is home to a Cathedral to the War God, docks at the lake and lakeside gardens, craftsmen and shops and all the usual things for a large city, mostly busy supplying the large army's needs.
Some time for RP now. Whoever you've brought to this campaign is here now with their forces, Roggar left a smaller defensive force at Rekazir, mostly Banners - just about all the veterans of this war in condition to fight are likely here in Midenath now.
Duke Jackard Tremas is preparing a small feast in a few hours for the Imperial leaders in his Duke's Palace, after which strategy will also be discussed. You have time until then to spend freely.

"The damned legions of Anavark come into our lands! They wish to destroy our ways of life, subvert it, and turn the whole world upside down! Outside these walls the legions of Anavark assemble, preparing for a great attack on this great city. We are here to stop him, I cannot guarantee every soldier will come out of this alive, many soldiers will die, but I'd like to assure every soldier here and every soldier on this holy war of ours, that once you fall in the field of battle, be it today, or be it some other day, with a prayer to the Pantheon upon your lip, you will most assuredly be guaranteed entrance into the Halls of Stoman. It is our duty, not only to our nations, not only to the world, but our duty to the gods themselves to stop Anavark at all costs. An army blessed by Stoman cannot lose in the field of battle. Whether or not we are blessed to win this particular battle we shall find out in the coming months, regardless of the outcome, we will win this war. STOMAN VULT! PANTHEON VULT!"

Finding an alcove Fuck-Mighty would take a minute to collect himself away from the bustling chaos of war and running an Empire. Would all this blood and death be worth it? How many men and goblins would he order to die in the coming days. Goblins had long held Mor as their patron god, for they so avidly courted death on the fields of battle and in the dark caverns of the Earth. He however had reached the pinnacle of the Pantheonic world, he had risen to the top and had achieved what his ancestors could barely dream of. It was said that Juras was the Lord of the Gods, even the Mighty Mor bowed to him. He was the Sun and in this time of darkness Fuck-Mighty needed to be a ruler that could part the tides of shadow.

I wonder what's left of old Paitran tradition around here. I used to spend time as a student reading about old Paitran technology and arts, and how Roggar could simply never seem to catch up to their culture and science.

I'd like to try and satisfy my curiosity, even if only for a few hours. How did such a virile, fierce culture become so tame? Why are they not upset at the state of their country given their history, and instead happy to rest on the laurels of their ancestors?

After the fall of Old Paitras, Midenath was the centre of the Demon Lord Guvenan's domain. Relics from the days of old can be found here and there - the aqueduct and sewer systems are fully functional, for one. You found some old graffiti on the wall of a house in a small alley in the eastern side of town, depicting demonic slavemasters with whips being chased away by the rebellious humans. That small street was one of the few mostly-quiet places you found in the city.

The feast is in moderate plenty. Your host has seen it fit not to go overboard with things given the circumstances.
Attendees include King Nerudius Ezgielan, King Stollin Haraldson, King Orbun Kragnan and a fairly large number of dukes, thanes, counts, bishops, guildmasters, wizards and such.
Duke Jackard Tremas, for once not wearing his heavy armor, welcomes the guests and bids them enjoy the feast, noting that around ten the strategy meeting will convene.

The house of Tremas has an impressive large Hall of War in which they have a wealth of resources to plan for campaigns and battles - dozens of maps, boards with figures, made with great attention to detail, tomes on military strategy and whatnot.

With the attendees assembled, Marshal Tremas begins.
"I like to plan for as many outcomes of a situation as possible. The enemy's goal is obviously Dominas. The largest force that can stand against them is assembled here, at Midenath. Three outcomes are possible here - we hold the line and stop the enemy from advancing; We deal strong blows to the enemy and are able to withdraw on our terms, having preserved enough of our forces; The enemy deals us a crushing blow in taking the city. The first is what I hope for, the second is perhaps the most realistically achievable, the third is something we should prevent from happening.
Roads of advance from Midenath to Dominas are west, across flat plains and two castle towns, then going through the tight Resotas pass; north, through Gordieve and the great forests;east, through Dorseel and Traegar. The northern route is the most likely as the enemy would face fewer strongholds, though the terrain would slow them down as well. Rear forces are already preparing defences along those routes, in particular the forest.
As you here already know, it is vital that we hold the enemy off at least until Kovinar and at most until Domnis so that the Pillars of Heaven are rebuilt - the war will turn in our favour if we can do that, if it hasn't already.
Essentially, time is the goal. A realistic goal is to have the enemy spread out their forces, their supply lines stretched thin, keeping them from making a decisive breakthrough too fast and delaying them. I do not wish to abandon this city at all, so I will do what I can to make sure they advance no further."
"Would anyone like to add something?"
>>
>>1227629
"The plans fine. Its the execution that ruins things for us on too many an occasion."
>>
>>1227629
*coughing lightly*

"The great Dark Dragon Annavark is the lynchpin to their success and has proved able to destroy large swathes of our forces almost completely unopposed. In response to this Roggar has stockpiled our valuable Zadium to great a massive ward barrier, strong enough to even trap the beast and allow a strike force of our most powerful assets to strike at the head of this snake, even injuring the dragon would deal a great blow to their forces. This is an additional plan to the one already suggested by the Grand Marshal.... "
>>
>>1227662
"The Dragons are the chief concern indeed. Archers, mages and heavy weaponry are prepared, of course, but we may indeed need some creative ideas - any suggestions?"
>>
>>1227662
"The Emperors idea could definitely give us a shot at victory if it works."
>>1227669
We had a weapon called Roggar's Revenge designed for taking down dragons effectively but they were discontinued after the Crusade against the Northern Empire and the ones that were made have fallen into disrepair."
>>
>>1227669
"At our disposale we have as I said a stockpile of Zadium and many a skilled ward priests, the Knights of Mor, the Ogre Demon Dreck along with Sentinel Prime and the Wardens should be able to injure him and if the gods willing maybe even slay the monster. This plan however all must be done piece by piece with the flow of battle. If any of your forces have such men or skilled fighters that would like to join this strike force we would welcome them. As you must be wary of Annavark's favoured tactic of creating a draconic illusion of himself as he approaches on foot with his forces."
>>
>>1227662
If only we had something that we could power up with worship in order to challenge this dragon... wait you killed them
>>
>>1227699

>>
>>1227691
"I've got Brana's children ready" King Orbun grins
"Indeed, we'll be deploying heavy weaponry on towers and on positions in and around the city. The hills to the east are a potential location - we've already erected wooden fortifications there. Housing the entire army in the city and relying on it alone may not be the smartest idea, so some forces will be outside."
King Stollin speaks
"Our longbowmen are the best shots in the army, my men will be training intensely in cooperation with archers and crossbowmen from other armies before the battle comes. We have some ballistae and onagers that may help against dragons - having taken some inspiration from your own "Roggar's Revenge"."
The Marshall nods
"Midenath's walls and towers are strong, supplies are stocked and the river will help with that. This palace is also one of the strongest fortresses on Setyrias and we've assembled veteran forces for this fight."
King Nerudius Ezgielan stands up to speak
"I'll be departing for Dominas tomorrow, but you can rest assured that aid will continually flow for Midenath. In my latest talks with the Dominion I was assured that they're sending forces to Gaerelios. Dominas must be protected at all costs, so I implore you all - if it comes down to it, live to fight another day."
Tremas nods once again
"Will anyone add something?"

The enemy came sooner than expected - on the very next night the dragons made an attack on our outer positions! By noon the enemy's vanguard had already engaged allied forces outside the walls of the city. The strategic positions in the eastern hills were lost with close to a third of our artillery and thousands of soldiers. Among the Roggarian forces that were harmed by these initial attacks were the Ogre Banners, whose camp was outside the walls.

A chaotic battle field. Amidst it a single dwarf moves through taking down whatever foe he can. He rounds the corner and sees him. Surrounded by bodies, cloaked in black, and red blade in hand.

Anavark.

The dragon turned to face him. The dwarf filled with dread, his heart beating fast, his breath running shallow, he wanted to run, but how could he? A family to protect, a guild to serve, a promise to keep how could he run? So he fought. Dancing feet and clashing swords the two came to blows. With skill that no normal person could match both in a sense masters, but the difference was palpable even well equipped, even though he came prepared it was obvious.

Charakavin was going to lose.

He sustained injuries. Cuts, scrapes, and bruises as anavark wore him down, but he kept fighting. Pushing harder and harder he threw in everything he had at his foe but not enough and anyone could see that, the dwarf put in everything he had but the dragon merely laughed almost as if it was a game. Ignored openings, missed chances, didn't push when he could. Anavark was playing with him.

And there was nothing he could do about it.

But regardless he kept trying but it was not enough. He couldn't get past his defenses. And the dragon grew bored. Soon he would lose and he knew he couldn't keep up so he put everything he could into one final move. Not to kill him that was never an option, but for one moment to at least surprise him but an error was made and the price was paid. Anavark broke his defenses and pierced the dwarf a clean blow, and fatal as well. He fell to his feet as anavark looked on with nothing but death in his eyes. He fight his life flow out of him. He thought on everything that happened to him. His life before coming to eigersil. Moving in, the war with mighty, facing the rhoznax, losing his arm, and everything after. He started to fade away uttering his final words.

"I'm sorry."

An organized retreat was pulled off fairly well. Around 200k fighting forces escaped the siege by land or river, though many among them were wounded. The enemy's losses in the Siege of Midenath are equal or lesser to our own. We live to fight another day. Another week, another month, another year - as long as we must, until victory is ours.

Afternoon, 8th of Stomnis.
Our Imperial Army is camped northwest of Midenath. Anavark's Host is taking a day or two to rest and secure the ground they've gained before moving on, we believe. The lands between Midenath and Dominas have some amount of forces there that will be trying to slow him down.
The Mighty's forces are headed north according to the last message we managed to get through. Elvish forces have left Gaerelios already, while armies on the Ashlands front are being pulled back as well. The dwarves will be able to send forces to Dorseel in quick order.
At the Siege of Midenath we lost 1/3rd of our army, leaving us with around two hundred thousand survivors, of whom a fair share are wounded. Anavark's Host suffered fewer casualties, now outnumbering our main army by more than two to one.
What should we do?
>>
>>1237342
Send word to The Centaurs and The Mighty to ramp up supply raids, while we take as much supplies from the area in between midenath and Dominas, while burning the rest
>>
>>1237342
The Elven and Dwarven forces should make haste to dominas as will the imperial army that retreated from Middenath.
Forces that stationed along anavarks route to Dominas should begin a campaign of scorched earth taking what they can and burning the rest as they retreat towards the city.

"Don't forget to bring the people along with you, and call more Paitras banners into the meatgrinder. They shall lead the raids on the lizardmen, as they have the most experience with this land and the most to lose should they fail. Meanwhile, us in the main host shall care for the women in their stead.... oh, and the children, too."

As soon as dawn breaks we march north - the most heavily wounded, who are unlikely to survive the mountain trek, will stay at Temenath to recover before heading onwards. We go by Temenath, Neidlath, the Resotas mountain pass and then Dominas. Elsewhere appropriate actions will be taken to slow Anavark down and to bring reinforcements to Dominas.

We reached Temenath on the 11th, leaving our wounded there, quickly resupplying and continuing north. We passed through Neidlath on the 15th and then began the harsh trek east, reaching quaint Resotas on the morning of the 18th and entering Dominas on the same late afternoon. Our army made good speed, 185k men reached Dominas within ten days.
The rest of the entire operation did not go quite as well as we'd hoped. Because Anavark's army had advanced on Midenath far quicker than expected, the forces sent to prepare ambushes and delaying actions on the road to Dominas didn't have enough time to conduct proper scorched earth, to evacuate civilians or even to really slow the Host down by more than a few hours. Gordieve fell on the 12th, the latest reports indicate the enemy will reach Plenia tomorrow. News from Osicair says the elvish army has just crossed into Paitran lands - reinforcements for Dominas will be arriving from the north and northeast soon.

Other than the Imperial Army that just arrived, Dominas has a present garrison of sixty thousand. Citizen militias are being prepared to defend the city as well, forces are being scrambled from all across Northern Paitras to reinforce the capital as well.
Including refugees that have flowed in, Dominas has close to half a million denizens perhaps. The city's defences are among the strongest in the world, with two layers of the famed Black Walls.Somewhere within the inner city intense work is underway on repairing the Pillar of Heaven.

You have some time to spend in the Paitran capital as you wish now.

You rest for the day and evening. Morning comes on the 9th.
The force disposition is as follows:
In Dominas we have around 250k troops now, not counting citizens, with a small batch of norse reinforcements having just arrived.
70k Elvish troops are coming from Osicair. At Dorseel Kragnan, Elvish and Paitran forces are being assembled, currently numbering 30k, but growing every day.
The Mighty's army has moved on Buxios and the region, having forced part of Anavark's rearguard to redirect there.
Anavark's main force, perhaps close to four hundred thousand, is outside the castle-town of Plenia.
What should we do?
>>
>>1254453
Finish up preparations at Dominas.
The forces at Plenia should do whatever they can to slow down Anavarks host.
We'll have to hold on as long as we can and hope the mountain and elven armies can get to Dominas quickly.
>>
>>1254485
Get plans of the cities sewers to allow goblin troops movement. Arm every mqn in the city, prepare for total war. The outer city ring should be turned into a maze of fortification s and traps.

The city's defences have been well prepared, though it could, of course, always be better.

Plenia held the enemy at bay for three whole days - wanting to conserve their energy, the enemy did not send dragons forth until the third day. Guerilla, The Mighty and the mountaineers further helped delay the enemy.
It's the 15th of Stomnis, afternoon. Tomorrow, most likely, the enemy will be at our gates. The elvish forces advanced quickly and their infantry is in Mournas. The vanguard of cavalry and air forces are in Dominas now. King Terruil himself is here on his royal griffon. The vanguard numbers seven hundred griffon riders and seventeen thousand cavalry - almost all the horsemen in their army.
The main elvish army will be here tomorrow or the day after, the King says.

A.Have the vanguard stay - we will need them as soon as the siege begins
B.Have most of the vanguard return so they can help the army get into the city - without them, they may be exposed to an atack from Anavark.

Twenty griphon riders and a thousand cavalry stayed in Dominas along with the King, General Avolis is given command of the rest to gather the army and bring it into Dominas.

It's an hour or so before noon on the 16th of Stomnis, 725. The Rhoznaxi army stands beyond our walls.
Morale is somewhat low among portions of our army. It's made worse by strict disciplinarian measures and a ban of alcohol and prostitution in the last two days. Now the enemy's making it even worse - lined up beyond the range of our weapons are captives. The enemy offers terms of surrender - march out of the northern gates of the city and let Anavark take it. Naturally, we refuse. They begin executions - thirteen different methods, one for every Pantheonic God. Hanging, beheading, crucifixion, drowning, being shot at the walls, being lined up and shot, being eaten by dragons, being sacrificed, mauled by animals, being buried alive, being flayed alive, being stoned, being pulled/torn apart by horses, being burned at a stake.

"I have some more ideas, but let's keep it at thirteen." someone says in Paitran, voice magically strengthened to be heard on the walls.

The enemy is setting up siege engines and preparing for an assault. They don't want to waste any more time now!

Ballistae, onagers and cannons have been deployed on walls and towers where possible, while others are behind the walls. Magical support protects us from most of the enemy's magical assaults, the exchange of ranged volleys has so far been in our favour as well. The Black Walls are strong, for the rest of the day the enemy could not make any breaches. Night has fallen and the enemy is counting on that now to use as an advantage! Their forces advance.

The Inner City can't reinforce the eastern side too well, King Nerudius does not want to open the Palace Gates, as the Palace is the enemy's ultimate target. The elves are taking a harsh beating now, most of the dragons are assaulting their part of the city. They've fallen back north to the Cathedral of Juras, the eastern gate is in enemy hands. Bishop Savan, head of the Church of Juras, personally leads the East City militia and various knights and soldiers in the eastern city to defend the Cathedral. Powerful wards are erected to protect it from attacks, but the enemy surrounds it. Most of the elvish forces were forced to withdraw westward so as not to get encircled.
If we can make a strong counterattack, we may be able to save the Cathedral's defenders! The time is now!

Nerudius authorized a portion of the Inner City troops to reinforce the elves - a spirited push from the north, while the main Imperial Army put pressure from the south, managed to relieve the Cathedral of Juras. Bishop Savan's bravery managed to save thousands of civilians who had sought refuge inside. Healing his wounds, he continues to lead the men of his city to fight for their Gods!

Across the night the Inner Black Walls, the strongest in Paitras, held, magic reinforcing them even further.
During the night clouds of choking Dark are sent into places across the city, diseased corpses are thrown left and right, suicidal stealthy attackers try to sneak through to terrorize and disrupt our supply lines. Our preliminary preparations are yielding decent results here - the enemy tried some surprise attacks through the sewers, but we had goblins deployed there that stopped the enemy in their tracks.

Fighting continues - the initiative is now in our hands, though and if we can press it the enemy will face defeat, for their only way to victory is to go forward! "They're through!" the cries sound out.
The enemy has stepped firmly into the Inner City. This is it. Evening of the 24th, the sun's last rays are dissapearing over the eastern mountains.

In front of the Royal Palace the defenders gather. Elsewhere there is heavy fighting, but this is where the enemy's most powerful will be headed, Anavark himself most likely among them.
Word comes that The Mighty is here. Apparently he left his army to his generals and led six thousand men north, having just arrived through the west. They've entered the Inner City and are reinforcing the defence. The Barbarian King himself walks towards the Royal Palace with a few of his men in tow. He looks stronger than before, his mind sharp, his equipment once again top-notch.
Present are also other important leaders - Marshall Jackard Tremas,King Orbun Kragnan, King Stollin Haraldson, King Terruil, King Nerudius Ezgielan and his court - the High Pontiff of Dominas, Nikael II, Archmage Anodis, elite soldiers from all kingdoms in this coalition.
Which important people has Roggar sent?
Take some time to list the characters/important assets(troops) that you have present, interact with others if you want(no need for rolls). The decisive battle draws near.

Sentinel Prime and the large golems are redirected to defend other locations. Nothing that big can fight inside the Palace, after all.
The gate holds for about a minute or so. On the walls archers, crossbowmen and mages take up positions, but most of those are forced to go inside as well, with the enemy's ranged attacks striking hard, demons flying up to the battlements and dragons being able to reach any location from the air.
A blast sends the gates flying towards us, crushing several soldiers in its path. Arrows and spells fly in both directions in the smoky hallway from the gate to the inner front courtyard. Demons charge through from the enemy side, met by Roggarian,Paitran and Dwarven warriors. In the ensuing carnage many fall on both sides. The High Pontiff and his Temple Knights are there as well, in the thick of it. A dark cloud encircles them - Nikael raises his hand and a circle of light shines through, percing the dark and creating an aura around him to which other knights flock. They find themselves surrounded - those caught in the fog, among whom most of the Praetorians, killed. Lithus Andarak and Trusted Deputy Svenson with the last of his soldiers are in the circle of light as well. Demons charge at them first - a few of the defenders fall, Svenson among them, but they still hold, hoping for reinforcements. Then they come - the Dark Champions and the Dragons, now in Humanoid form. Lithus threw himself at one of the champions - one who'd once born the name "Keres". The lycan berserker found his match, but it was a spear in the side that got him, rather than the foe in front of him.
The circle of light shrank, bit by bit, until it was just the High Pontiff, both hands holding a burning sword, his tome on the ground. He fought hard, showing speed and strength far beyond what a man his age would naturally have in him, but a spear to his leg took him down on his knees and a sword through his back finished him off.

The enemy has taken the front courtyard - we're now holding the second gate, which leads to the palace proper.

We steer clear of the gate this time, its flight path after the blast harming no one. This time the Mighty's men, the Knights of Mor and the remaining Praetorians, along with a detachment of Palace Guards, are the ones taking the heaviest losses. For half an hour the Palace's assembly hall, the area before the throne room, is the site of intense fighting. The Dragoncommander's Praetorians have all fallen by now, of the Knights of Mor present only half are left standing, a majority of the Mighty's retainers are dead as well.

Enemies break through and reach our commanders in a rapid rush! Durand Martel is heavily wounded and unconsciouss after a blast threw him to a wall.
>>1256271
You sacrificed your men to save him and bring him back to physicians and priests for emergency treatment.

From the smoke emerges Charles Martell II, looking at the body of his son being dragged away.
"Look this way, cur!" shouts Jackard Tremas, the Marshall of Paitras. The two lock swords - skillwise the Paitran may be somewhat better, but the dark magic coursing through the Dark Champion gives him an edge - dodging to right, he swings his hammer onto the Marshall's shoulder, bringing him down.
Meinolf Nomin, Baron of Rizon, along with a dozen Palace Guards rush to the scene just in time - the Guards carry Tremas away to be treated, while the baron engages the Dark Champion. Though it is far weaker than what his ancestor, the Avatar of Zemel Bereg Nomin, could call upon, Meinolf summons all his latent powers and focuses them into a single strike through a gap in his enemy's armor that brings Charles down.

It's just you from all your men left now.

Elsewhere The Mighty's sword claims another Dark Champion's life. He's seen kneeling down over his corpse and saying something, though you couldn't hear - perhaps it was someone he knew once.
The dark, choking cloud is entering this hall now. We pull back in an organized fashion to the throne room, where barricades have been set up by the Palace Guards.

A dozen knights of Juras sacrificed themselves to get you safely away towards the northern wing of the palace, where the wounded are being sent.
It feels like an hour of fighting was spent in the throne room. Many elvish knights fell here and eventually it's deemed that this ground can't be held either - we begin falling back to the northern wing. We enter a large, beautiful garden, the "backyard" of the palace. To the east is a chapel, to the north a tall tower, between them the rear gate of the Palace, from which reinforcements flow to our side still.

Noon, the 25th of Stomnis, 725.
Anavark's army has fallen back to Dominas' southern fort, parts of the city near it and its camps on the outside. We estimate it numbers under three hundred thousand by now, perhaps less than half of its original count are in fighting form.
In Dominas we have:
60k Roggarians (40% wounded)
55k Elves (36% wounded)
25k Anglanorse(30% wounded)
20k Dwarves(42% wounded)
75k Paitrans(45% wounded)
The southern, central and eastern sides of the city are in bad conditions. The men are tired, morale is a mixed bag, supplies are holding up for now.
The Mighty has 45k troops in the south, an army of 40k is based in Dorseel at present.

Anavark and at least three other dragons are alive.
Archmage Anodis says that using the energy of the Pillar during the battle has slowed down progress with about a month.

Anavark's Host...is withdrawing? It does indeed seem so - burning what they can't carry with them, they left the city on the 27th. They're not in the biggest hurry by the looks of it, making sure to pillage and burn their way out of Paitras is probably what they'll try.
As of today, the 27th, we have 145k men in fighting condition in Dominas. Messages have been sent to the other armies.

Harras their supply lines, catch isolated bits of their armies when possible. Have Mightys agents in Ezirin disrupt therir supply lines and make it imposible for them to feed off the land. Make this retreat a hell for him. Put pressure on him but don't overextend or caught out of position. Use any remaining peasants in the areas to also harras them as much as they can.

1st of Charodis, 725.
The past month has been careful strategic maneuvers, skirmishes, ambushes and small engagements. Anavark managed to avoid getting trapped and kept his supplies in fairly good order and his army on the move. We suffered some losses from attempted attacks on him and in smaller fights he dealt blows to the Dorseel and Mighty armies. His Host is now at Midenath, reinforced up to around three hundred thousand. Having united with the Dorseel army, we have 260k Alliance forces northeast of Midenath, while the Mighty has taken command of his army in Buxios, whose numbers are around 40k.
The Western Front has not been too active. Centaur forces helped stem the advance of Zhongi armies into Ondalia. Zhongi fleets haven't been making attacks north - likely focusing on Gajaxlan instead.
Anavark's agents have been terrorising civilians, attacking infrastructure and spreading darkblight and non-magical diseases beyond the front lines as well. Still, our main army is well supplied.

Root out the Anavarkist agents, and kill them all. Hold Positions.
>>
>>1259514
Have the spymaster's men work on rooting out Anavarkist agents, especially in important areas such as our more important food producing lands. Presumably Anavark's agents would be aiming for targets such as that, so looking in those areas would likely yield more results. Arresting all suspicious characters would be more or less the goal, even at the risk of arresting civilians.

Hold our positions on the Paitran line and the Western Front.

1st of Zemis
Anavark's Army attacked Buxiom, destroying the city and forcing the Mighty's army to retreat, battered and down to under thirty thousand men. Now the host is advancing towards Dorseel - our forces on the Paitran line, currently standing at 270k, which would likely be roughly equal to Anavark's Host, are stationed at Gordieve and Dorseel.

As far as the agents are concerned, we've had moderate success in dealing with them.
>>
>>1259619
While the enemy besieges Dorseel, come up from behind them and hit them with all we've got.
>>
>>1259619
While the enemy marches on Dorseel, have the Mighty's men harass their supply routes and keep the men stationed at Gordieve ready for when Anavark reaches Dorseel - we will then attempt a pincer movement to destroy their forces.

110 v 197

It seems a sizable amount of the forces present are non-lizards - a lot of black orcs, perhaps in preparation for colder climates. Lizardmen are half or less of this army - orcs, dark elves, southern dwarves, conscripted Ezirni and even trolls are seen. Their formations hold steady, gaps are adressed swiftly - the command structure is steady, even in a purely conventional sense we seem even, with the dragons being a potential edge for the enemy - Anavark hasn't been seen yet, though.

Roggar proves itself #1 at running away once again.
1st of Moris.
The Emperor's army is stationed in Traegar - with the latest reinforcements it numbers 180k. Dorseel's still under siege - some forces and civilians managed to evacuate through the lake, but the last news we got today says the dragons destroyed the harbor - the new Duke asks for aid, lest his city be destroyed - he's still protecting it with those who are able to fight, women, children and wounded soldiers having been the ones who evacuated.
With a wider rear, the enemy's supply lines aren't so vulnerable as they're also raiding this untouched region now. Anavark is conserving forces for now and preparing for one major push after he takes Dorseel out, we believe. The weather is getting colder, but it's not winter yet and the lizardmen are still able to fight.
What should we do?
>>
>>1259890
Genocide dragons.
Genocide demons.
Genocide lizards.
Also, set the rest of Anavark's forces on fire.
>>
>>1259890
Move the Emperor's army back to Dominas to prepare for a final push from Anavark.

Send scouts to the area around Dorseel to try and observe the enemy's numbers as well as observing what the forces are currently made up of.
>>
>>1259898
You lot can figure out the details, right?

>>1259890
"Sadly there is little we can do to help Dorseel and if the lizards try one more desperate push on Dominas we need to be ready to stop it."
>>
>>1259890
What >>1259901 said.
Also, have what boats we can scramble assist Dorseel with evacuation (even if the harbour is toast they can still get people onto boats, using rowboats and such)
>>
Scout report(98/100 in discord roll)

The enemy army numbers 287 521 combat troops, 35% of whom are lizardmen. Anavark is accompanied by four dragons, one is most likely Ulanxir, the second biggest we've seen, there's one fairly small one and two medium-sized.
Sentinel Prime v2 is there, as is a fair amount of lesser golems of mediocre quality and average-ish cannons.
The enemy seems to be deploying their lizardmen in more rearguard-oriented positions now - in the colder weather they'll rely on warmblooded troops.
>>
>>1259917
Legasb! Why don't we go up their cold-blooded rear-guard.
>>
>>1259901
Revision to this - while still pushing the Emperor's army back to Dominas, we should have the Mighty's men push back to Dominas as well for the enemy's final push while Dorseel is acting to distract the enemy. Pushing back north will also bring colder conditions for the lizardmen who make up roughly 100k of Anavark's army, which will help us even the odds.

Agreeing with >>1259913 as well, we should send what boats we have to try and rescue any troops possible to recover.

Dorseel fell on the 20th of Moris, Traegar - on the 10th of Gyolan. Plenia fell to the enemy on the 14th.
Today, the 20th of Gyolan, 725, Anavark's Host has made its way to Dominas for the second time. Its numbers reaching around three hundred thousand this time, they prepare their siege equipment as we speak. The city is defended by 60k Roggarians, 50k Elves, 30k Anglanorse, 10k Dwarves, 25k Ezirni and 80k Paitrans.

No fancy procedures this time - only the routine that has been repeated time and again, to prepare for battle - what may be the climatic battle of this war at long last, the second siege of Dominas.

Also present are The Mighty with his last remaining followers, Buflam Domwurd among them; King Nerudius Ezgielan, Marshal Jackard Tremas, their knights and Palace Guards; King Terruil Velaris I of the High Elven Dominion, General Avolis and their elite elvish knights and mages; the acting commanders of the norse and dwarvish forces, with a smaller amount of soldiers.

The Elvish King and The Mighty are talking to each other on one end of the courtyard, you can't hear what it is exactly they're discussing. Nerudius is speaking to a mage, Jackard is organizing the guards - you can see that his left arm is mechanical now.

The enemy will be upon you soon - now is the last chance to speak, prepare or make your peace with the Gods.

Levos spends the time cleaning his blade. If he will meet Juras now, he will do it with blade in hand.

Offer one last prayer to Zemel and the Gods and prepare for the battle to come.

Gerard goes as close to the pillar chamber as he is allowed before the final battle, and prays to the Gods. "O great gods of the pantheon, maybe you do not hear my prayer, or maybe you do, but today, I ask but one thing of you gods, give me the strength to resist the Anavarki hordes, to protect this most sacred pillar. Give us victory."

After that prayer, Gerard returns, making sure his new armor is fastened tight and his sword is sharp.

I have no God to pray too.
I shall mentally go over every little thing I studied.
Every good memory I have
It's...calming almost.

"Elina, take your senile father and a dozen riders and stay away from the fighting.
If the worst comes to pass then you are to break out and head back to Trusted Defense in order to inform the council of my failure here. I pray to Juras that those fools see fit to appoint somebody more qualified next time."

Febarow leans on his halberds and bows his head down.

"Stoman. I never prayed to you before. I don't have the tounge for it. No one will remember wherever we were good people, and why we died. All that matters that we stood against insomurnable odds, THAT'S what's importnat!

They say valor pleases you Stoman. Then I ask you this; grant me revenge!
And if you do not listen, then to *hell* with you."
