You are Python the Great, a high priest of the great Naga Civilization. The past empire had ended unexpectedly, and your people, petrified within the Great Ziggurat. You had awoken prematurely, and set out to figure out what had happened, and woke Princess Medushala, a rare ‘gorgon’ naga. With her help, you’ve unpetrified those you could from the Ziggurat. Others are surely still locked away, even buried behind broken arches and ruined halls…

Your first decree as High Priest was to gather as much knowledge as possible and concentrate on retrieving your people’s lost technology. After all, the Naga had made many breakthroughs in magical technology. Finding anything at all would help you get your people on their feet.

Scouts have explored the underground area where you have rebuild your city (in which only a handful of people only reside). There are three tunnels by ground, as well as two by water. Given your race's amphibious nature, you may be able to use them tactically.

Before you contemplate on your next course of action, it seems your people have managed to dig out precious artifacts!

Another worker has found an ornate priest hat! Wearing it will surely both raise your authority as well as morale.

Other workers have also found decorative and mundane items, which will improve your people’s happiness. There is still much to do however.

Hatchlings take 10 turns/days (Maybe I should change it into weeks?) to mature. Breeding will be an option whenever there are no hatchlings, due to the race's bad breeding stat.
>>
You have great visions for your people and your nation, and it all begins with you donning your hat. It is a nice hat.

Next you order your workers to renovate the Ziggurat, clear rubble and make it habitable. They alternate between gathering resources and their task at hand.

Then you order a group to scout out ahead into one of the three underground passages. Medushala takes her twenty personal warriors and embarks.

Medushala and her twenty warriors slither through the rough stone passage into the dark depths. It is pretty dark, as no light finds its way here, meaning your kin has to rely on air and touch sensory. Everything seems to go well for them, and they end up in a bigger cave chamber with one, lone and tall crystal pillar, rough all around. Light seems to shine from it, indicating it may be of magical nature, or just luminescent. There are small waterfalls coming from the ceiling, all the water flowing into a river that goes underground. Going that way might make it hard to swim back. Another ground tunnel goes away from this place.

Medushala notices a peculiar sight after looking around: A group of… mushrooms? Whatever they are, they are simply standing and gazing at the crystal pillar. Had she not rechecked the same area thrice, she wouldn’t have even noticed them.

Although horribly failed with a stealth attack, the proud naga warriors save their reputation in front of their princess by decimating the strange mushroom people. Why would we punish that? The thing they will learn from it will be that followowing our orders since it can get them executed. Of course they will never directly disobey our orders, but they will be certainly less eager to proof themself by taking a frontline spot.

The petrified statue remains there while Medushala assesses the situation. The remaining 19 warriors look at her, awaiting her command. One thing was obvious: the warrior was either driven crazy, or possessed, and the same must have happened to the strange fungus people. By the very feel of it, it must be related to the strange crystal pillar in this cave chamber, at which the mushroom people were staring at. As long as nobody gets too close to it, Medushala figures it should be fine.

Medushala contemplates on her options and decides to leave three naga warriors to guard the petrified victim, and continue onwards herself with the rest of the warriors. They travel through another stony passage for a while, and find a large cavern, filled with luminescent plants. They could be even edible, and as such perhaps a good spot for an expansion. It is still a long way for that however.

The group slithers around, searching for any signs of life. Other than some occasional weird slugs, there doesn’t seem to be anything moving around there. After a bit of more concentrated search, they discover a dead body of a skaven! The corpse looks fresh, but they find something disturbing: those same slugs are near, and one is roaming out of its mouth…

The princess and her escort approach the mushroom people, who seem to be lightly alerted at the sudden appearance of many naga. Medushala approaches them and gives a light bow, an attempt to show that she and her people mean no harm. The mushroom people seem to understand this and one of them steps forward – apparently the leader of this party. His eyes look curiously at the snake-headed naga, and he attempts to communicate in an odd language.

“You don’t happen to understand me, do you?” Medushala asks. To her surprise, the fungusman tilts his head and begins forming familiar words.

“Under.. stand… this language not spoken long years,” he says with a weird reverb to his voice.

“You know the serpent tongue?”

“Mycanea remember, yes,” he says. “This one calls Hyshnak, what does you call?”

It is obvious that this… mycanean struggles hard with the language. Medushala gives acknowledges him for trying.

“I am Medushala, Princess of Snakes. My people here are guarding a wounded kinsman.”

“Kin…” Hyshnak lingers on the word, and turns to look at the base of the crystal pillar. “Our kin decay, ended by sharp metal.” He looks at the naga warriors and their naginatas. “Why?”

“We were attacked by them,” the Princess explains. “A strange ethereal blue flame burned in their eyes as they did. One of our own suffered the same fate, and I had to turn him to stone.”

“Sad but curious fate. Bewitched maybe?”

“I suspect it has something to do with that pillar over there.”

The mycaneans look at the natural (or maybe unnatural?) crystal formation at the center of this cavern.

This could be the start of a relationship between two races, either bad or good.

>>
“You call yourself mycanean. Who are you exactly?”

“We explorers and farmers. Grow into awareness not long ago. We curious. We seek knowledge.”

It seems they are just a starting civilization just like yours. But wait…

“If you just became sentient, how do you know our tongue?”

The mycanean’s small mouth turns a bit, which one could interpret as a smile.

“We see, we learn.”

Well, what a surprise, mushrooms learning ancient languages.

“And what do you know of the other ‘neighbours’ around here?” Medushala asks.

“Caves filled with odd folk. Ratfolk, slimes, little green folk, bug folk. Bugs plague our crops, defile them. Very bad.”

The skaven you’ve already encountered, but it seems the underground is filled with more nastier surprises.

“We share our knowledge. What offer you?” Hyshnak says, watching with his curious round eyes.

Medushala takes a more 'sitting'-like position and introduces your people to the mycanean. She tells about the Naga Empire at its peak and how she had to save whoever she could along with other priests by petrifying them and hiding them from a great magical calamity that would have otherwise had befallen them all.

"While I remain the rightful ruler by blood... It is our high priest, Python who rules and takes care. His experience and wisdom will preserve our people for now."

Hyshnak nods to Medushala. "Tragic," he simply says. "But curious. Magic residues throughout the caves. Suspect our kin became aware from it. Result of calamity maybe? Hard to tell.”

The calamity was said to be magical in nature, but all surviving naga so far were petrified before it happened. Nobody really knows what it was.

“Speaking of magical tampering. There are luminescent plants and… weird slugs. Should we beware of them? Are the plants edible?”

The mushroom man scratches his cap. “Plants mostly safe. Very magical. Good for medicine and poison. Slugs feed on dead. Eat inside, leave acid. Explode when touched. New corpses, new food for slugs.”

Well, then. Good thing nobody touched the body.

“Now what of this?” Hyshnak asks, looking over at the pillar. “Cannot leave untouched. Otherwise more victims. Maybe use magic.”
