Four hundred years ago, Harwyn Hoare granted the lands of the Blacksoil to Darvin Blackett. Blackett, a reaver and warrior of some renown, a proud killer and champion of the Ironborn, took this as a slight. Foisting rotted swamp and marsh onto him? The dead end of the Blue Fork? Oooh no, that'll not stand. So the revenge of Blackett was twofold; Firstly, betraying his king and siding with House Mallister of Seagard to stand against him. Secondly, striving to be the finest bloody governers and lords possible, hammering the dead and rotted lands into fertile and profitable ground. Over the generations, House Blackett has seen it's fair share of madness and strife, but has always come through for its lands and its people. Nearly forgotten by many of the more noble houses, remembered only by our liege, close friends, and trading partners, we trudge on, crafting our own fate and fortune. We Sow, We Reap, We Grow.

The last week has been busier than any you've suffered in years. A replacement for your poor ancient maester, passed in his sleep, arrived. Your daughter began to grow into her own as you finally agreed to let her start learning the simpler arts of combat. You chose, after ten long years of mourning, to fulfil your duties as Lord, remarry, and father a proper heir. Then, on the road to visit your liege and offer reports, and in truth to ask for aid, you met a good hearted and noble young knight- nearly caved his chest in though. You made up for it by slaying his foes with ease and style, shattering and cleaving Ironborn raiders into chunks and smears. Your daughter, a street and king young girl, found herself gripped by one of the more dangerous madnesses known to your family; The Bloodrage. The Black Beast. She'll be learning to control that.

You met with a handful of lords, carefully trying to discuss the possibilities of meeting with and courting the unattached females of their families. You've three possibilities right now. Mariya Darry, Arriet Grell, and Lianne Roote. Each has their perks, and you need to consider it. Further, there's others you have yet to meet or learn of.

For now, however, you are tired of such things. Onwards, to things you're better with. Things you do not stumble at, and bumble through. You're not a people person, as it were. Much more a hurting people person. Thus, you collect your daughter, thanking the ser Silverwood for his kind aid, and head out into the yard. People are chatting and drinking here aswell, but primarily they are watching young knights and squires sparring. The youthful eagerness of the young fighters helps put a touch of pep in your step, and your warrior hearted daughter is full of goodcheer at getting to watch herself. Numerous knights and lesser lords mill about the edge of the yard, while the center is taken up by swordsmen fighting with wooden blades and shields.

You wander around the edge with the other lords and knights, relaxing as the squires spar. None really impress you much, though Bethany seems excited at each little fight and clash of wooden sword on wooden sword. You pat her on the head and leave her to her watching as you quietly speak with various little lords and knights. Here, you're far less well known than amongst your trading partners and old friends inside, and are met generally as a blank slate. Various young knights compliment you on your work on the road, and are full of the usual bluster saying they'll be keeping an eye out, insuring no more such attacks dare take place, etcetera, etcetera.

"I understand you took a wound during the battle. It is good to see you so readily on your feet! I'd feared you waylaid when I heard you were struck in the side with a blade." A young knight in gold and blue says, his hair and eyes much the same. He's cocky and seems a bit full of himself, and you chuckle.

"A minor annoyance, good ser." You promise, and he nods. "A good crop of young squires, hm? This generation seems quite blessed." You muse, looking at the various fighters. He seems quite pleased.

"Few finer than my own squire, young Tyweth Lannstream. My own nephew, if I must be truthful. Ser Kellos Lannstream. At your service, ser...?" He offers his hand, which you shake readily enough.

"Lord Vickon Blackett." He bows his head at that. "Lannstream, hm? I assume a relation to..." He is all good cheer.

"Aye, the Lannisters. A cousin, distant in truth. I earned a place in the Riverlands when good Lord Grell was impressed with my actions in the war. Lured me from my golden home, he did!" He's all smiles and laughs. An idle eye cast back towards Bethany, and you note a rather devilish little smirk as she looks this way and that.

>Actions, words, etc?

>>1254684

>>
>>1254684
Move on, not interesting
>>
>>1254684
Would our lands border House Grell? If so, ask after the state of his lands and whether they've had any trouble with bandits.
Also, he must have been quite young to have participated in the last war, right?

Anyway, other than that wish him well and carry on.
>>
>>1254715
He's young- enough that you can juuust barely believe he was in his squirehood during the war.
>>
>>1254717
In that case let's, mingle a.little more or go get some rest,
>>
>>1254715

"Fascinating." You dryly remark, as the young man rambles about himself. Lannisters, they all believe their own hype. "If you will excuse me, I do not come to court often, and find myself needing to speak to a great many people. I wish you the best, young ser." The grown bloody man actually pouts slightly, but nods as you depart. Lannisters. Ugh. You find better uses for your time with ease. You mingle and amuse yourself by chatting with the young and stupid. You hear a collective 'oooh', and see a great many winces as a rather strong and proud looking boy, dressed in black and green manhandles... ah, good, it's that brat Rivertower. The spar is decidedly not in his favor. You spot Bethany watching with a very smug smirk on her pretty little face.

>What is the goal of your mingling? Not many young bucks are that interested in talking to an old nobody like yourself. You'll have to decide how and where you want to poke in your nose, or if you'd rather just relax and let the day end.
>>
>>1254844
Let's give the black and green boy a pat on the back after the round is over.
>>
>>1254844
I kind of want to open ourselves up to challengers, just to see if we meet anyone decent. Wouldn't hurt to recruit a few more knights to our house, young idiots who need a patron or lowborn hedge knights with talent.

"So, pleased with this turn of events?" You ask your daughter, having arrived at her side. You speak as quietly as possible, even with the other lords and knights observing the fight, best not let them hear this.

"Why, of course not, father. I'd never condone such violence. Why, I was simply telling the nice young man of what that silly boy said to me before, and he charged off before we finished speaking." She says, arms crossed and smug smirk firmly in place. Ah, there's Alys, writ in miniature. Atta girl. You pat her gently atop the head, and continue on your way. You think, for a few moments, of having a bit of fun with the various knights, accepting all challengers and schooling the young bucks in how an old war hero handles things. But you remember Ser Silverwood's injury, and decide it best to hold off. This is too friendly an atmosphere, you might ruin the whole thing if you shatter someone's ribs or bust all their teeth out. Instead, you merely pat the black and green lad on the back when you pass by him later, giving him a grin.

The fights continue for a time, before the festivities start to break up and people begin returning to their own business. Probably wise to have any last minute talks with the people here, before everyone goes about their way.

>Anyone you'd like to chat up?

You find your way back into Seagard, leaving Bethany to her fun. Silverwood's got an eye on her, as commanded. Many of the little lords and ladies are still talking, others drifting away. You've a focus on one, though. You find her on a balcony overlooking the yard, a servant having pointed you in the right direction. "Lady Darry. A pleasure." You address her as you approach. She favors you with a slight smile.

"Lord Blackett." She curtsies lightly to you. "I was observing the fun in the yard. Pray, what did the foolish young toadspawn do to get on your darling daughter's bad side?" She asks, then laughs and waves it off. "Twas easy to see she wanted to handle it herself, I caught her trying to sneak off. Admitted she intended to dress as a squire and thrash the boy while hiding her identity, like she was the Knight of the Laughing Tree!" Mariya Darry laughs even as you tiredly sigh and rub your eyes. "I convinced her it might be wiser to have another fight her battles, atleast this once." She seems rather amused at the whole thing.

>How would you like to chat up the lady Mariya Darry? What subject do you stick to? Wander onto the idea of courting and a marriage?

When the civil war happens, i say we align with the crown instead of the north

The reason we sided with robert is because we saw the writing on the wall, we were loyalist through and through but we chose what was best for our house

In the end the north was going to lose anyways
>>
>>1255512
Marrying a Frey comes second worst to being tortured a Bolton dungeon. But we've a rivalry with the Freys, we can't just let her marry those weasels
>>
>>1255186
You regard her with a cocked eyebrow. "Hold there, lady Darry. You mean to tell me you convinced my daughter to not thrash the boy with her own hands? I'd kneel before your might, but I fear you might not let me up." You joke, and her smirk upturns a touch. "A couple of fool lads, that boy in the lead, thought to relay their expectations of how a lady should live her life." You explain, and she scoffs, scorn coloring her voice.

"Barefoot and with child?" She asks, and you bow your head in agreement. She sighs. "Frogspawn. I know their thoughts on the matter well. As I warned you before, my sister was married to one by my fool brother. She's two children already." She seems disgruntled by the whole idea. You can understand, you've no love of Freys, and they little of you. Oh aye, they'd find a wife for you in but a split second, but you know it'd take nothing less than bending the knee to the old toad Frey himself.

"My condolences. Your brother mentioned you as well were seeking a husband, no?" You ask, coughing into your fist a bit. She laughs innocently enough at your awkwardness, and bids you continue. "I... may consider an agreement with your house?" It's almost a question. "I could use an intelligent woman, one who could help my family flourish and its status rise. But... you must understand, tis not a decision to make lightly. I've a responsibility to make the right choice, for my house, for my daughter..." Her laugh this time is more gentle- sad even. You go still as she approaches you, adjusting your slightly askew doublet.

"I might be interested. You're the first fellow to come along, look at me as more than just a pretty young thing. If I were you, though... I'd consider making my choices soon. My dear fool brother is considering selling out to the Freys once again. Ser Merrett Frey has asked for my hand, and I can only ward off those two fools for so long." She muses, her smile sad as she smoothes the velvet over your barrel chest. You feel a tightness in your chest- the first time a woman has doted on you in a decade. "Farewell, lord Blackett. I'll keep a watch out for Ravens." As she departs, you release a breath you hadn't notice you'd been holding.

>Actions? You've time left to visit with either Roote or Grell now, but not both. Silverwood will probably be wandering along with you after this, so you don't need to worry about tracking him down.
>>
>>1255543
Can't do that, Mallisters are loyal to the North. Not a wise and honorable thing to betray him
>>
>>1255545
We have no idea if she marries freys right now, that and our house is about the long term
Even if we slightly fuck over the freys, in the end we don't gain as much as we could have
>>
Guys you are forgetting the main reason qe are marrying

To have a hair, to find some love and to find someone Beth likes

The power and alliances. While good, are secondary to our arrangement.

We sould ask if she would be interested, not her house, thats the first step to find a good companion

Again, I'm not saying we commit to her, but however we choose must be because of personality and affinity with our family, the power is a bonus not the goal

Vickon is a soft heart like that, he would agree
>>
>>1255549
WE MUST MARRY THE DARRY!
Also lets start looking into who that squire who helped our daughter hails from.
>>
>>1255559
While finding someone we love would be nice, marrying up is the best option
If we had the choice of marrying a baratheon(fucking impossible, but hypothetical situation) or a low born, baratheon is always the choice to go

Love is the secondary priority, getting a powerful heir is
>>
>>1255590
It's not love, its the internal stability provided by someone we have affinity with and that can deal and get along with our daughter
>>
>>1255590
With our shit influence we're not going to marry anyone important. So someone like her who can control and teach Bethany is more useful, plus she seems smart
>>
>>1255653
I wouldn't say never, if i remeber correctly our wife was a frey(which is why the freys are so pissed at us)
>>
>>1255661
I dont think our wife was a frey I think it was our grandmother.
>>
>>1255661
Our mother was a Frey. Our wife was a Piper. Part of the reason the Freys creep you out is they keep offering you these marriage deals which are juuust far enough to not trigger the legal definition of incest.
>>
>>1255669
It was our mother
>>
>>1255661
With the amount of Freys in the Riverlands, I wouldn't consider them important. Hell, they're giving away brides to everyone

Marring for power might be good for Frey or Lannister fags, but it is not Blackett's way.

>>1255553
It seems that lord Mallister is our bro so we can't betray him. Silverwood is cadet branch of Blackwood other canon supporter of north.
We are going to end in Frey's dungeon.

Also, to be clear, those who want a Tully? There's a chance of this somewhere between 'no' and 'if you literally kick every Ironborn ever in the dick'.

If you REALLY want to pursue that, it will be possible, but marrying into a Great House is a big deal for a major house, and you are really close to just being considered landed knights.
>>
>>1255694
Thats the way the tullys got strong

And Beth is too annoyingly perfect, like: " Check my OC, she is beautiful, very talented with sword and words and can get anyone to do what she wants, she also is a badass knight in training that can beat any other studants ass, she is extremelly deadly with her sword but she posses a great rage inside of her, you don't want to get on her bad side, and she is angst because she will lead a house even being a woman and will face that challenge because she is better than anyone else at it, and don't forget that she will find the super speshuul family sword too."
The only thing that's missing is eyes of diferent colors and 1 angel and 1 demon wing.

Darry, but if we can wait a little without losing her do so. It sounded like she was getting pursued pretty hard by the Freys, so if we have to make a move now or never do it. She seems *smart*, which, aside from fertility to provide more heirs, is really what we need. Our strength is our trade, and we need a lady who can help things run smoothly while we worry about keeping trade safe and bashing irondick heads in. Plus she seems like she'd be great with Bethany.

I'd prefer not to just go for the first woman we met, but if that's how the game works that's how it works.
>>
>>1255842
I should note, Bethany currently does not know shit about fighting. She'd have gotten her ass handed to her and humiliated if you had not gotten on Darry's good side earlier. She's a thirteen year old girl, she only got the better of the bandit because she stabbed him in the neck from behind after he bitch slapped her and triggered her free attack.

>>1255878
Anons, please, let's not be hasty, going for the first option is just...ehh, we haven't even MET anyone else yet
>>
>>1255878
I also wanted to point out there's really something to be said for allying deeply and closely with a house in Darry's downriver location. That would at least get our name out there end-to-end across the Riverlands, and maybe help boost our overall position if we can get some sort of a unified tax/economic policy on river shipping going. Maybe even have enough clout if we join forces to get the Tullys to do something good for us regarding the canal.

I'm not sure if Vickon is politically minded enough to consider all of this or if this is too meta, but even he should see "trade vital --> downriver port connections good".

You watch her walk away, slowly nodding to yourself. Aye. Aye, that was... acceptable. She's sharp, and was able to talk Bethany out of getting herself deep into trouble. The Darry's could be decent trade partners, if nothing else allowing you to get word out amongst the area, help you find contacts. As well, her brother is without heirs, and she the eldest sister. You'd stand to inherit Darry and the lands about it if he did not manage a proper heir. You stroke your chin. Aye, as well, she is... pleasant to see, and invokes a stirring in your tired old chest.

Yes. You think a raven might be on its way, in short order. You allow yourself a smirk. If it pisses off the bloody Freys as well, all the better.

Within short order, you've rounded up your daughter and your knights, all five of whom smell vaguely of harder alchohol than wine. As you seek Azla, you find him tending to ser Silverwood. "Aye lord, ready shortly. The ser Silverwood has requested he be allowed to travel with us on the road home, to help offer protection." He muses, and the knight clears his throat, clearly wishing to speak for himself.

"The maester is quite right, lord. In this condition, I am far from fit to head to Riverrun as I'd originally planned. I intend to return home, to rest and recover, and thought it a good idea for us to travel side by side once more!" He explains, and your comfirmation that you'd not mind brings a bright grin to his face. "I thank you, lord Blackett." You wave him off. It's not long before you are prepared to depart, wishing farewell to your liege, Lord Mallister as you go. The man offers again to see about putting together a list of available ladies amongst his vassals, but you tell him to not be concerned. The trip home is quiet. Good. Easy and simple. Various knights headed on their ways happen to travel nearby, all wearing just a tad bit more armor than would be considered polite in civilized lands. All with weapons not far from hand. Bethany swears up and down she could have taken the Rivertower lad, and you have to chastise her more than once there. "You're a young girl, who's had no training in how to wield a sword. He'd have slapped you around like that bigger lad did him." You note. She huffs.

"The lady in the brown dress was a lot nicer about it. Said he'd hold a grudge, an it could cause trouble if I beat him too bad, so better to have another boy do it. So she told me what to say to that Roote boy to get him to run off after him. He's apparently the cousin of that Lord Roote you spent so long talking to." She explains. You approve.

As you reach your own lands, the various knights all wander off their own ways, not wanting to take their horses into the marsh. Your horses are ready and sure, though, easily finding the narrow paths and roads. Ser Silverwood as well finally departs along the way, following the road that will lead him to his own home. You pull into Fenmire in good spirits, glad to be done with that whole mess. "I didn't like the smell." Bethany notes. "It didn't smell... right. Like, it was too... I don't know. You couldn't smell the water, and the ferns, and the fish." You nearly go into full on laughter, biting it down and just chuckling politely. Only someone born and raised their whole life in the Blacksoil would prefer the smell of the marshes to that of clean sea air.

>You've a list of things to do now. Get to preparing your lands, your city, and your family for the possibility of marriage. Sending off a raven to ser Darry explaining your interest, and offer of marriage and small alliance with his house. Arranging wargames and the training of troops. Ravens will fly to and fro with the various lords about the coastal patrols. How do we want to handle the various details and items? We'll be going into timeskip territory as we handle each item.
>In example, how do you want to handle the war games? Split up your units to fight eachother? Call in Ser Silverwood and see if his men would like to skirmish with ours?
>How much do you want to commit to the patrols, how many of your boats, and how often are you willing to let them be away from home?

I'm assuming Silverwood doesn't have many troops, considering he's just a landed knight. We could loan him our Ironbreakers and have some war games. He gets experience commanding a force he's not used to, and the rest of our army will have to work damn hard to fight off the Ironbreakers
>>
>>1256402
For the war games, lets commission some heavy wooden training gear to add onto our soldiers' gear, have them split up into teams using a raffle. And every day have them march out in the swamps and beat the shit out of each other. Then on the weekends we can have a prolonged red team versus blue team type deal, where base camps are set up in private and the soldiers have to steal eachothers flags.

For the patrols, cycle in ships, split the sea around us into 5 zones and split our ships accordingly, patrol in a cyclical pattern so as the ships always have an opportunity to meet up with eachother.

I know it's useless in a war, but you can blame my dad. Got me into escrima as a little kid and I've stuck with it for 15 years now

it was a style for dueling back in the 1500s, no purpose on the battlefield, but it's effective against someone with a buckler or parrying dagger
>>
>>1256402

Wargames: we simulate raids and ambushes

Patrols: send ravens to the nearby lords to recruit for the patrol, when everything is ready invite them to a feast to see the patrols off
Maester: send him to search for old documents that could strengten our claim on the cannal
lands, so we can petition them with the Tully's

We commit 2 ships if we get a lot of support and 3 if we don't, the rest should stay and defend the city, they should make weekly patrols I think

Marriage,: send a raven to Darry exlaining our interest, but don't ask for a marriage yet, just try to delay the Freys, if its not possible than propose, invite him to the patrol lunching feast so we can talk with them again
>>
>>1256510
I'd honestly question if it's better than a bucker in a duel tho. I'm also just thinking of even in a dual situation in those same 1500s manuscripts for messers (Talhoffer, etc.) how many rely on snaking in the left hand.

Escrima is pretty cool, but isn't the dual wielding there more often with sticks [easier to parry with, closer to a bucker in defensive use] than knives? Correct me if I'm wrong.
>>
File: Pinuti.jpg (73 KB, 1200x800)
73 KB
73 KB JPG
>>1256591
The reach advantage against a buckler is nice, though there are obviously ways to counter this. If you can bind up someone with two swords, you can usually score a hit. A major flaw with them is ranging, they're way better at long range. Up close, the guy with the buckler can slam your nose in. Closing the gap is usually the hardest part

Escrima tends to practice with sticks, partially because they're cheap, and you don't run the risk of cuts. Even with a blunted sword, pressure cuts are possible. Escrima has a lot of possible weapons, the sticks are stand ins(though I wouldn't want to fight with sticks without protective gear) for a type of short sword called Pinuti. You change your style a bit using them, but the general skills are the same

One thing to remember is that escrima is made up of a bunch of styles. It's got swords, blunt weapons, and knives all rolled under the same name.

You get things started. Ravens fly to and fro. Silverwood is eager and ready to bring his troops to play in your wargames whenever you like. He's well on the mend, but it's going to be a while before he can fight himself. He can take a back seat, of course, and swears his skill at commanding to your business. He brings a hundred men-at-arms, and would bring light cavalry... if not for the conditions of your lands making that almost literal suicide. As for the patrols, you get several lesser lords, as well as Mallister himself. You bid in two of your warships, the two finest, to sail on weekly patrols up and down the coast. They're welcomed with good heart.

On the home front, you have Azla begin delving into the family records in search of documents that will aid your work in petitioning the Tully's for control of the Canal. It shouldn't be hard, the canal is your family's greatest source of fame and glory. Further, your old friend Desmond Grell is, as always, as good as his word. A raven arrives from Riverrun, baring an invitation to the wedding of Lord Edmure Tully, and to compete in the tournament to accompany it. You should return a letter saying if you will be competing or not, and in what parts.

Another important aspect sees the start of Bethany's training. She begins to learn both to keep her rage under control, and the general idea of holding a sword. She's far from anything resembling competence, but she's on a quick rode. Her hands seem made to hold a blade, and she's eager as can be to learn. Time to think on how you wish to guide her training, and if you want to allow your knights to teach her as well. Kaisen is quite interested in helping, as are her usual handlers, Donnor and Maxon.

Finally... letters to and fro from Darry. The agreements are simple, you will have a thousand dragons as dowry, and in excenge Darry ships will have prefered treatment, and lower taxes in your port. Further, the usual agreements and friendships, to defend eachother's interests and works, to further eachother's houses, etcetera, etcetera. It'd be time to make any arrangements and agreements, anything specific you want from Darry, what you are willing to offer, that sort of things.

>>1256920
Can someone explain to my why the Tullys would give us the canal? Sure our blood built it generations ago but it isn't ours now, they own it fair and square. As far as I can figure if we want to petition for it that would have to go to the crown. I mean we could bargain for a share in exchange for ??? but that isn't what I'm seeing described here.

It's pretty simple. Your house lost it, simply, because it was not strong or influential enough to govern it securely. If you can prove your ability and claim, and grease the right hands and such, it could find its way back into your hands.

>RSVP to wedding + enter melee
>Let our knights assist in Beth's training. Priorities are controlling her rage, dagger work, grappling and (if she really wants) swordfighting in that order.
Rather than formal lessons in warfare (Vickon has shown some concern about propriety) we can just keep her by our side while we oversee the wargames. She can get some first hand exposure to command while Silverwood and us drop pearls of warfare wisdom.
So are a we really moving this fast with the marriage negotiations?

We will end up embarrassing our self and fucking up our hip more. Isn't archery one of the things? And it has been mentioned that we are a poor horseman.

>>1257326

her chances are already pretty slim considering that Vickon can't stop telling everyone how she is just like the perfect boy and all the command and battle training that we are planning to set upon her.

she will not attract many suitors, specially when we start having more kids, I say we focus on turning her into a badass commander/warrior, hell, even future ironbraker leader and let the marriage on the backburner if we find someone suitable or that accepts all this

she could be ugly as sin, if the marriage could bring advantage to some families there would be suitors
>>
>>1257325
Important note, the likely events will be jousting, melee, and archery. Those are the classic big three, though there will be small other things. Those are the important ones, with serious prizes for victory.
>>
>>1257326
Why the scare quotes? Don't like some extra cushion for the pushing? Scare of muscle girls? I imagine these hot dornish wives that everyone raves about tend to be pretty fit.

>>1257375

my concern is we spread her too thin, we have to choose a place to focus or she will become a jack of all trades and master of none.

Hah, I figured. Just chill out, you lot. Things will be as things will be.

So, the increase in stats goes to Wealth. With the +5 from agreeing to marry Mariya Darry, you've got a whopping 56 Wealth. 16 points open and free to spend and play with.

Now, for the wedding! You can spend 1 Wealth for a wedding befitting a Minor House, 3 Wealth for a wedding befitting a Major House, or 6 Wealth for a wedding befitting a Great House. In accordance, Influence gain will be 1d3, 1d6, and 1d6+3.

As for the tournament, a Local tournament would cost 2 to throw, 2 for the first event, and 1 for each event after. A Regional tournament would cost 5 to throw, with 2 for each event. A Grand tournament would cost a whopping 10, with 5 for each event. In accordance, your Influence gains would be 1d6, 1d6+3, and 1d6+6.

Dontos Malroy would approve of a Darry marriage, being a friend of Ser Willem Darry he was. Good loyalist men and women there. Could use the strong influx of power that Vickon would bring given their current state.

Been a good read so far. Keep it up man.
>>
>>1257656
If you mean the one Vickon paid for, it will happen at the same time as he marry. Westerosi wedding have a tourney most of the time as the two events synergise quite well.
>>
I calculated the probabilities of our House fortunes (4d6+ 1B)+6:

Decline: 4.64%
Curse: 22.70%
Growth: 42.46%
Blessing: 27.44%
Boon: 2.77%

So we have 27% chance of a setback, and 72% chance of profit.
>>
>>1258212
I like those odds, let's see some dices
>>
>>1258212
Is that accurate though considering that 4chan dice use the clock to generate psudo-random dice? Legit question because I'm not sure, all I'm aware of is that the clock has an effect and impacts clustered rolls

>40/43 Wealth

>>1257574
>With the +5 from agreeing to marry Mariya Darry, you've got a whopping 56 Wealth.

Am I missing something? 43+4+5 = 52, not 56.

Also, vote for minor house wedding (1 wealth) and a local tourney with archery and melee (2+2+1 wealth) for a total of 6 wealth. No jousting in swamps, please.
>>
>>1258259
it will probably be held in the city or on a dredged part of the locality it's not all swamp
>>
>>1258259
The numbers are weird but honestly, the only part that actually matters is the available wealth. We might "have" 52 or 56 but that it mostly spent. The only party of that we actually have is the 16 wealth.
>>
>>1258395
But do we have 12 or 16 wealth?
>>
>>1258248
It depends... The randomness in that case or dependant on anons rolling at random times relative to each other, this makes it at least unpredictable. Also on the server's entropy pool. So "evenly distributed" (aka fair), no not necessarily but it will still be random.
>>
>>1258444
Honestly, I don't remember, too tired/drinking
>>
Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy
>>
So this marriage/tourney deal, are we basically selling it as a 'practice' tourney for the big Riverrun one? We might end up getting a heck of a lot more attendants if that's the case, plenty of eager young bucks looking to test their mettle over small stakes.
>>
>>1258723
I don't know, but we better win the meele and offer the honors to our new wife
>>
>>1258259

>>
>>1258783
I don't think the man who holds the tourney participates in them. Anyone remember an instance in the books?
>>
>>1258840
Robert Baratheon was organizer of tourney in Kings Landing and took part in melee.
Granted it was in name of the hand but it was still organized by the crown.

I think we could take part but if we win we should give our prize to second place.
>>
>>1258848
Sounds good. Most important thing is that we get to choose our new wifey as queen of love and beauty
>>
>>1258852
On this note, people were talking about who gets to crown the queen of love and beauty, and how normally it's the jousting champ, etc. I am going to rule it's the winner of the 'main event', as it were. Normally this is the joust, that's the usual 'main event' of tournies. At your tourney, you can simply have the melee, your event of choice, be the main event.
>>
>>1258878

>>1259085
That'd be up to you lot. Holding it too soon before the Riverrun tourney will turn some folks off, worrying them that they might get injured and not have time to heal beforehand.

Holding it the seventh, or early eighth would be best. Seventh would get the highest attendance.

>>
>>1259023
I think it'd be ok to enter the melee, show off a little, but we really shouldn't enter the joust, from two reasons. One, we're not that great of a rider, and we might make a fool of ourselves. We really don't want to show off that we aren't great at it (even if we're not actively horrible).I know that practically it actually doesn't suit our marshes-and-naval-combat needs, but riding skill and mounted combat ability is *really* important both as a force multiplier in battles on drier terrain and reputationally to show that you are both a noble and a warrior. We really don't want to show off that were not a "proper" jousting knight.
Secondly, even if we declare the melee the "main" event and give it the larger prize (which I don't think we should), everybody will still think of the joust as the main event. It's where reputations will be made and what people will remember years after. Even if we declare the melee the "main" event people will have trouble thinking of it that way; that's just not how the "sport" works. And it would be quite odd for us to enter our own tourney (and win our own prize money?), really make us look socially clueless. I know we're not the most cunning, but this is basic lordly manners. Generosity. In the melee on the other hand we wouldn't be trying as the host to upstage the main event, but could still send a message of how tough we are. Plus watching the joust will give us a better sense of who the up-and-coming local knights and lordlings are. As Anon mentioned, it'd be interested to see who crowns our daughter, if anyone does. (I'd presume basic courtesy would be for the winner to crown their wife or a lady they are courting if they are in attendance, but to crown the host's daughter otherwise.)
>>
>>1259164
I say we just don't enter, let's watch and spend the time bonding with waifu
>>
>>1259164

>>
>>1259331
eh, if it was actual warfare where we were picking our battlefield that'd be one thing, but I'm assuming the tourney melee will be held on some reasonably solid field, probably roped off. (I do know some historical tourneys turned into "mock" battles ranging over whole sections of countryside, but that requires whole armies or at least "company" sized masses of men and seems WAY beyond the scope of what we can afford to throw.)
>>
>>1259397
If our status is 4, a first born daughter should have status 2, making her free, right?

Then with the 2d6+3 we get from the marriage and tourney, we should have enough Influence to get an heir.

Ax throwing maybe?
>>
let's not meta too much. We know iron born raids and piracy are way up, but I don't think it's logical to jump from that to expecting an attack on our home fortress itself. If anything, we should be focusing on boosting our land and sea patrols in the areas away from our keep and thus more vulnerable. As we discussed with the other lords.
>>
>>1259464
>Axe throwing

I like it. Sure, it makes us look a *bit* iron islandy, but it's not that bad, it's a proper combat skill (or so we insist).
>>
>>1259464
Make us stand out as a filthy iron born. There are only so many well respected noble events
>>
>>1259477

The Ironborn part of it is one of the few things that keep our names in the minds of the major houses though, the Mallister's "tame Ironborn" so it wouldn't seem to out of place, especially if we don't have a prize associated with it which would turn the event into a bit of indulgence for the Groom himself and an interesting bit of Ironborn culture for the mainlanders, shouldn't put anyone off too much
>>
>>1259486
This isn't a bad point. We're 'literally who' tier, as someone said earlier. Having something that would stick out and let people remember us might not be bad. Have to balance it with reminding people of Ironborn when they're actively raiding folk, though.
>>
>>1259486
OK but I want the Qm to really write the disdain the proper riverland lords will have for our savage ways
>>
>>1259486
We might as well be playing the finger dance then. Do we play the finger dance?

>>
>>1259503
You have in your youth. Probably not in years, though. You know Valder Pyke, one of your Ironbreakers, is an ace at it.
>>
>>1259445
Curtain Wall would probably take too long, and hauling in stone from somewhere sounds like a cunt. Wooden Wall is feasible but we don't have any forests in our domains so we'd need to trade.

But yeah I agree we need to not focus on meta stuff like some other anon said.

Right now we should be setting up patrols and bolstering our military might. Work on getting some Wealth Holdings that accommodate such as well. Should do what Malroy does and spend a point of Wealth on upgrades for our units every other month and pick up a Master at Arms for the free upgrades.

>>1259439
if we want to upgrade our castle, I have an idea. It would work best if we had a map of the land surrounding Ironmoor/our lands

We can buy a moat from the Homebrew sheet, thus making our castle a bit harder to attack. My biggest problem with it is that our main adversaries are Ironborn, and their ships would be able to go right up against our walls if the moat is fed by the river.

We could build a tower on the coast, which would give us more warning about any attackers, but it'll take at least 3 years to finish. Anything we build on won't be ready before the Ironborn Rebellion, but the tower will be of no use for it. Could give to a knight we want to land and let him deal with it.

Quickest thing to build that would help defense would be a stockade. It's cheap and fast, though not very good.

Slightly better than the stockade would be a wooden wall. It would be done before the Ironborn Rebellion, and will help defend our town, which is currently undefended

What I really want is to build a tower and get some engineers to man it with heavy duty siege weapons so we can smash the ships
>>
>>1259516
Wooden wall is shit. Just light a big fire next to it and the siege is over
>>
>>1259492

True, would it help if we had a solid speech prior to it? Something to remind the Riverland lords that we stand with them and will stand against the Ironborn wherever they raid.

I personally would look at it as the sort of exhibitions that would occur during the American Indian Wars where they would use Native fighting techniques and show off the tomahawk and the like, a point of fascination and a chance for these lords to see this technique without it trying to kill them and perhaps give them insight into it so they are better able to defend themselves
>>
>>1259522
Meta discussion but this would take way too long to finish. Stick with patrols for now.
>>
>>1259522
The Greyjoy rebellion started with a sneak attack on Lannister ships. Us being aware of the that and taking active measures against them might speed up or show down the timeline.

true, can't know the exact timing. We already fucked up the canon with our canal, no telling what will happen because of this.

Doesn't mean we can't recognize the danger the Ironborn are, considering they're willing to attack the mainland in fairy large numbers and a lot of weapons and armor are moving through our port in the direction of the Iron Islands
>>
>>1259578
Dude we get you want ballista
>>
>>1259560
So, priorities:

We need 16 more influence for a male heir. With the marriage and the tourney, we'll get 2d6+3, (between 5 and 15).
Are you gonna roll to see if the child is male?

Then, 8 more lands to get that canal.

After that, 5 power for trained engineers, 10 for trained warships.

Next, 11 more wealth for a sept.

Finally, 7 more defense to get a bigger castle, but the construction would take somewhere between 9 and 13 years.

>>1259602
My point is that we should just prepare for war with no more meta knowledge than it is coming, and that Balon is gonna have his ass handed to him.
>>
>>1259707
I'm nicer than that! You pay your 20 Influence and you get a bouncing baby boy.

mate, check out the siege weapon rules. Even one unit of them would put us on par with a much larger army. They can do a crazy amount of damage from extremely long range, and would make assaulting a castle a complete bitch.

Check out A Song of Iron and Hate, they managed to disorganize what is possibly the most well defended unit possible. Imagine what they could do against people that can't escape and are lightly armored. If we made spitfires, we could replicate the battle of the blackwater with the ironborn bastards
>>
>>1259803
"Peacetime" is relative in a feudal world, and doubly so in Westeros. I don't think our preparations would look terribly suspicious, just the sort of thing a good lord does when he's come into some wealth. If we do go over the top with it though, that might be seen as agressive.
>>
>>1259710
We should definitely get the artisan architect from the homebrew before building anything.

>Artisan Craftsman (Architect) KAR
>Requirements: Hall or larger Defensive Holding, or Small Town or larger Community.
>Investment: 10 Wealth
>Time: 2d6 Months
>Bonus: Defense +1, Reduce the build time for Defensive Holdings by 20%, and the Warfare bonuses for Communities and Defensive Holdings in the House’s domains are increased by +1.

Reduces the time for building stuff by a fifth, with some wartime defense bonuses. 9-13 yrs for the castle would be reduced to 7-10. Plus we'll have the wealth.

>>1259803
But we are also aware of the reavers' increased raiding. So it's completely IC for us to improve or military and defenses.

I think we're good on bumps, /qst/ is a pretty slow board. We aren't even in autosage

So do people want to expand our army, or make our current one more experienced. The war games will help either way. If we got a good blacksmith, we could give our men castle forged steel.

I'd like to get some heavy infantry or heavy archers, kinda replicate the British longbowmen from the hundred years war. They'd be very useful on ships, as we have limited space and they would give our ships a ranged attack without having to worry too much about boarding

Guerillas could be good too, not sure how we'd use them, but might be nice if we had someone attacking overland

>>1261871
Improving our fleet is a definite must, and it could be justified as improving our patrolling capabilities.

Also Guerillas specialty trained to fight in our swamp would be very useful in land defense.
>>
>>1261871
As anon said, improving the fleet (quality wise and then numbers wise I would suggest) is a definite goal. Marshland guerillas are a good idea and more archers as you said. Quality first and then quantity. The elite troops absolutely wreck face when given the chance.

No reason for perfectly healthy potential mothers to go mysteriously barren just cause the dice gods wanna fuck with us.

By that logic lions were commonplace in medieval England.

So question. If we're in month 8(?) of 287AC shouldn't we either be in winter at the tail end of it perhaps, or early spring? At least according to the gap in the chart here.
>>
>>1263001
We're in the beginning of the sixth month. Month 7 is out marriage and tourney. And since spring seems to last a year or less, we could be anywhere from just before spring to the middle of it. Summer begins sometime next year, so autumn should begin either sometime this year, or in early 288.
>>
>>1263039
>so autumn should begin either sometime this year, or in early 288.

>>
>>1263288
This is actually exactly correct. A large part of his personality and character will be developed by how much you take a personal interest, and how much you let your wife take command (assuming she survives, mwahaha). Bethany is a mini-me for Vickon because her mother died when she was two, and Vickon was the one who raised and shaped her.

>>

Also, we're in the sixth month. Vickon's birthday and the wedding/tourney are in the seventh.
>>
>>1263367
Summer usually only lasts a couple years, so winter probably began in 286. The ten year long summer begins in 288, so right now it should be late winter or early spring.
>>
>>1263374

>>
>>1263391
Actually yeah, checking the numbers, Bethany was born in Winter. Tyrion was born in the second year of a three year Winter, in 273. According to basic math, Bethany was born in 274.
>>
>>1263375
Damn, I was hoping for some hard winter swamp living.

I mean it makes sense though. With a big Riverrun Tourney and marriages being held during a time where pregnancies are less dangerous.

Speaking of... I'm off the opinion we shouldn't rule out a Tully marriage just yet. Except we should focus on one for Beth. Yeah, she'll be far down succession but look at the Tyrells or Lannisters they have cousins all over the damn place. And damn it if having some Tully spawn won't help our name and influence a good deal.

Beth marrying into Tully would give a nice ally for our house, we just have to find a decent male around there. Actually it would be hard to find a better marriage for her

Throughout the following month, you tend to your various bits of business. The major highlight of it is, in all honesty, the ravens sent back and forth between yourself and Lady Mariya Darry. Her mind and wit are every bit as sharp as you had hoped, though she has a bit of a bitter and sarcastic streak to her. You won't hold it against her, you've been called a bitter old cuss more than once. Bethany still seems put off by the whole thing, but promises to atleast try and get along with the woman. The most annoying part is your continued lack of ability to read- Kaisen has to read her letters to you, and write the ones you send back. His eternal good spirit remains throughout, atleast.

You worry, as time goes on, more and more. Your marriage to Alys brought light to your days, and her death broke you. It was only Kaisen and Barden, your ancient former maester, kicking your ass into shape and chastising you like a child that got you back on your feet, and taking care of your business and child. You hope this one can bring you happiness as well... and that it does not end in tragedy again. You worry as well for your future child. Mariya is a young woman, surely able to have children, but will she be alright? Will the child? How will the child grow? Will they be boys or girls? What will they be like? It is spring, and summer comes soon. Your first child will doubtlessly be one born in summer, to warm days and plentiful crop. Will he be a soft and gentle manipulator like Mariya, or a cold and hard warrior like yourself?

Hm. The only thing of interest to happen this month should be the inspection of th troops, and the feast to celebrate the ships being sent off on their patrols. What would you like to work on this month?

I have to ask, how did we end up not knowing how to read? True, in GoT Ser Davos doesn't know how to read, but that's because he grew up as a poor commoner. We may be a minor lord, but we're still a lord. We may have some iron in our veins, but our family has at least been pretending to be proper lordlings for generations. Our mother was a Frey, not some tavern wench. It just seems out of character for us to have been raised to run a household and treat with other lords without being taught to read. (I'm perfectly willing to believe given our personality that we can't read *well*; we won't be perusing any maesters' texts anytime soon, but we should be able to read our own letters.) If this was set during the age of heroes and petty kings illiteracy for the nobility as well as the commoners would be expected, but today, 300ish years after Aegon's landing, Westeros is a civilized proper land of literacy, at least for the nobility [cue laughing Essosis].

Barden tried. He really, really did. As long as you can remember, the man as your family's maester, and he worked his ass off trying to teach you. He imparted numbers and facts easily enough, but seven help you, you never could wrap your head around letters. Now... it's time to try again.

YUP, you fucking hate it. Azla works hard, ready and eager for the challenge. At first you think to simply sit in on your daughter's lessons, but... well, you quickly fidn you're simply too far behind her. Thus, Azla takes to teaching you when he can, and Kaisen helps as well. Personally, you think Kaisen's lessons are better. The man's instructions are simpler, more practical, none of that nonsense on sentence structure and different forms of words and i before e and all that. Nah, here's how to write yer bloody name, so I don't have to anymore.

He uses the letters between yourself and Mariya as well to help you learn. You find yourself... looking forward to the feast, and seeing her there. Various trading partners, and the different knights and lords who will be dedicating ships will be coming. Euron is excited about the whole idea, getting back out onto the sea and shoving his blades into some raider's guts, flying the Blackett colors at the for, seeing a fully armored Ironbreaker leaping from the deck to ruin some poor fuck's day.

You get various letters, RSVPing to your event. Roote, of course. Darry, as if there was a question. Mallister. Silverguard. Primarily, however, they are vassals of House Mallister, living along his coastline. You sit down and begin dictating orders to Kaisen, who jots them down faithfully. Yes. Time to remind everyone that you're still around. Arbor Golds and Dornish Reds, boar, pig, Torrhen longcoat cattle form the North, fresh fish of all kinds both salt water and fresh. Yes, let's remind them we're quite alive and well, and still quite the trade power.

The feast is explained as two parts to the many comers. Aye, to inspect the fleet put together by many houses to patrol the coast and safeguard the Riverlands from the raiders who grow bolder and bolder, but for a second reason as well: Your beloved daughter and heir, Bethany Blackett, has come of age. A time for celebration indeed! She goes white as a sheet when you tell her as much, and you leave the poor girl to try and figure out how she's supposed to be the center of attention without embarrassing the lot of you. You comfort her by telling her a friend will be about to help; You'll be spending most of your time with Lady Mariya Darry, and she'll be able to help keep you both from embarrassing yourselves.

You hope.

As news of your preparations and the scale of the feast gets out, you recieve many ravens barring veiled requests for invitations. Lesser lords and knights from all about the Riverlands, especially the lands of Blackwood, Frey, and Ryger.

>>
>>1263903
I'd say extend invitations within reason. What we have now seems good. Maybe send out a few more, but nothing crazy.

First dibs go the Mallister bannerman, obviously (zeroeth place to any Great House members to deign to attend), and beyond that expand it as much as we can within reason. OP will need to provide details of how the costs will work, but keep in mind that (assuming the system reflects reality) costs wills scale differently for different attendees. The competition facilities themselves won't really have any more cost, or negligibly more, from increasing by many times the number of competitors, but the hosting costs will. Commoners and hedge knights will simply camp or go to inns, and buy their own food, actually boosting your local economy (and presumably tax revenue), but for nobles, and perhaps even the more legit and reputable freelance knights you'll be expected to wine, dine, and house them (or at least the first two, if your castle is full it's full and hopefully they have pavillions). Many nobles will of course have their own retinues, and while it'd be utterly imposing for them to bring a whole army to intrude on your hospitality, a handful of men each still adds up. A gracious lord would probably have his men-at-arms bring their own provisions and be prepared to camp, but you still need to deal with him himself, and some sort of initial bread-and-salt assistance in sending provisions over to the men wouldn't go amiss. Nothing we can't handle, but just things to keep in mind before we bankrupt ourselves.
>>
>>1263952
This is a feast, not a tourney. It's a purely social event.
>>
>>1263931
This is politics. We don't *like* the Freys, but we can't just not invite a major, powerful, nearby house like that. That's a calculated insult, and we know how the Frey's deal with those. Moreover, it's an insult for which (unlike turning down a Frey marriage offer) we can't even offer a real justification.
>>
>>1263959
This is me, also. Trip fell off.
>>
>>1263959

>>
>>1263963
Mariya was planned to be married to the freys.

Invite or no, its still an insult.

>>
>>1263903

Invite just the bare minimum of Frey's, maybe 1 or 2, everyone else gets open invitations
>>
>>1263903
To the Crownlands! You said there's a good possibility we know Dontos Malroy, he'd be good for a Tourney
>>
>>1264001
That'd be up to Father. Doesn't his quest take place way earlier in the story than this?

Plus, why would a little house in the northern Riverlands send off invitations to the Crownlands?
>>
>>1263903
Are there any northern houses that might have grudges against the ironborn? it might be a good time to invite them down, and see if we can get a two pronged effort
>>
>>1264067
House Mormont, obvi, but they're pretty poor and a *long* way away from us.
>>
>>1264077
House Mormont is rather wealthy. Their shipyards build ships to sell to merchants and traders.
>>
>>1264077
>>1264085
Shipbuilders, eh? Seems like it couldn't hurt to invite them and see if they decide to come, nothing lost if not, and potential trade partners gained if so. Hell, if we pioneered some kind of anti-ironborn trade protectorate, that would get us some major influence
>>
At this rate, watch us be used as part of Balon's justification for the rebellion.

The Darkstarks. A small cadet branch of the Starks. They're not fond of the Ironborn. Again, though, I kinda doubt houses form other Realms would be too into coming to some noname Riverlander's feast.

Lord Jorah Mormont's shipyards build fine ships to sell to traders and merchants, and by commission for some lords. Usually Northern ones. Most of it effects the North, and won't matter one lick until Canon times. That and House Remora. Fuckin' Remora and their god damn undead sea witch. If Vickon'd have been there, you bet your ass that that bitch would have stayed dead, and the Targs woulda been properly wiped out. One reason that the Darry's got off a little easier in this canon is that the Remora's got a lot of the hate that woulda been directed at them.

I gotta ask are the houses that telltale made up in this?

With the canal opening a new comercial line to the North, they would be first in line to profit with their Ironwood lumbers making ships impervious to anykind of fire but wildfire. IF they're in the game then House Mormont is fucked, yet again.
Well not quite as hard as the original canon, as Ironwood would be quite pricey and ships made of regular wood would still sell to those imporverished houses.

>>1265237
P-pls no bully.

OK, but seriously. The changes involve tend towards making Realms stronger. In example, way back when, Torrhen Stark found a breed of long haired, shaggy cattle living in the North. This made the North wealthier, and snowballed into a stronger and wealthier North. The Starks are more powerful and wealthy, in example, enough so that second sons and bastards often are made heads of new Cadet Branches, thus all the damn extras. Seastarks, Darkstarks, Snowstarks, etc.

The Riverlands are done by your hand. The canal brought shittons of trade through going east/west, making them far wealthier and more politically powerful.

The princess Rhaenys Targaryen yet lives, the sea witch, Latia Remora, having smuggled her from King's Landing to Dragonstone. The Remoras are the new Darrys, hated by the crown because of this, and because Latia Remora then lead the Remora fleet to battle Stannis' fleet for three days and three knights, so that Rhaenys, Viserys, and Daenerys could be smuggled away by the Darry knight. Latia is called the Sea Witch because she took an arrow in the throat in the battle, and fell into the sea, but somehow survived. People whisper of dark magic and the undead, but really she just got grazed and was a great swimmer.

Speaking of the Rebellion, Rhaegar nearly killed Robert by stabbing his sword through a dent in Robert's armor. Robert still caved his bloody chest in, but not before being badly wounded. This humbled the king, and he takes keeping in shape seriously. He's still a medieval frat boy, but he's a medieval frat boy who keeps on the top of his game, and is a mountain of muscle and martial might to rival his prime.

Uh... shit, what else...

Malroy is currently in Month VI, Year 285AC. So exactly two years prior, not outside of reason I'd suppose. That would place Dontos at 31, Victus at 13, Rodner Chelsted at 10 & Alexes Chelsted at 36. I assume those would be the only people to attend at least.

I mean I'd be cool with a crossover if you are Doc. We could talk it on twitter if you have an account, just dm me. Of course it wouldn't be a canon experience for the respective characters from their respective quest, so as to keep things open as events transpire, but I think it would be fun. If I might suggest? Buff the Language to 3. You'll wanna be able to read, as a diplomancer character. Though I think you could also just, you know, ignore that considering your Knowledge score.

You cannot have a marketplace, or a port, with just a hamlet. Bump it to small town.

Your lands need a base, either plains or hills to add the features on it, the stream or hamlet.
Hills+Stream or Hamlet, Plains+Stream or Hamlet, with the hamlet upgraded. Or just one base+Stream and upgraded hamlet, using the remaining points to do as you would.

Lands can be traded for defense at 1:1, you could houserule the reverse being true and put that last defense point into lands if you have no need to upgrade the hall.

Even if the boy himself didn't -want- to be heir he would be trumpeted around by every single person that didn't agree with Bethany's right to rule. Which would be everyone.

Having a son and still making Bethany heir is WAY worse than just declaring her heir without any other children. You wouldn't even need assassination, she'd just be politiked out of the seat with minimal fuss after our death.

Yeah, it's an extreme case scenario. Where all the trouble that comes with having Bethany inherit will actually be preferable to just letting our son take it.
It is even more unlikely as Doc has said how we spend time with him well largely dictate how he turns out. My point I'd that if we *have* to, we have that choice.
>>
>>1267379
Maybe not, give a plain+river+grassland+town domain as reward taken from a loyalist house that got fucked, twist it with the house still being alive and kicking. Thus forcing your house to destroy them uterly(or bribes some of their units into your service). Taking the domain as it is with the former house being alive would dip your Law score into negative which, in the eyes of the smallfolks would makes you into the bandits.
Make Hoster Tully gives you 5/10 months to clean the situation or lose the claim on the domain+heavy taxes on yours.
Twist it with an external power funding the former house, for shit n' giggles make Walder playing both field as the big daddy is hungry for more lands and having prime estate on the Redfork would tickle his fancy big time, especially if its lands near Riverrun.

I already got an idea. More or less. Further up the stream it turns into a river. The house usually owned that place but due to decline and loss of land and influence has lost control of it. Ravella is of course digusted.
>>
>>1267501
Your son will develop in different ways depending on how much you have to do with his raising. If you leave it entirely in the hands of your wife, Mariya, he'll end up a Baelish tier or better diplomancer and manipulator. If you handle it completely, he'll be Vickon, act II. If you balance it, he'll be a balanced and well rounded lord.

"It is not the height of excellence to fight and win, and have the whole Empire say, "Well done!" and praise you... what the ancient fighters called a thoughtful warrior is one who not only wins, but excels in winning with ease. Hence his victories bring him neither reputation for wisdom nor credit for courage."
-Sun Tzu

That is exactly why we shouldn't do that.
Having great fighters is a good thing, not even having to use them and still getting what we want an even greater feat.
>>
>>1267598

Ok, but that's still no reason to not put the extensive experience that vickon has to good use by teaching the new lad. A commander that doesn't fight is hardly respected by the common troops, and our family is very close and adored by the smallfolk.

I'm not against giving him all the knowledge in tactics and military we have available, but I still think that a martial ability to excel on tournaments and battles is very important for the prestige of a lord
>>
>>1267598
Even if he doesn't fight a man who can is more respected by those he leads than one who doesn't
>>
>>1267608
>>1267626

I am not against teaching him in the arts of war, by not doing so we might alienate him from the very man that are supposed to follow him in battle.

However tourneys on the other hand are nothing we should raise his interest in, he will do better at raising our houses influence by not actually risking his health and leave the honour to others.
>>
Ok so, do we have a list of dudes in canon and history who have had Fighting 6, 7, and 8? I know Bobby B, Barrister Selmy, Gregor Clegane, Loras Tyrell, and Oberyn Martell had 6, and Jaime has 7, but that's all the Campaign Guide (GoT edition) has.

Dorne joined the Iron Throne by marriage not fire and blood. Maegor did not defeat the Faith Militant but it was the Jaehaerys the "Conciliator"

Where do Arthur Dayne, Aemon the Dragonknight, Daemon Blackfyre, and other big names rank?

There isn't a list for any of they historical characters. At best you'll just have to work with the limited information we have, build off of the archetypes provided, and take all information with a grain of salt considering the unreliable narrators and historical contexts.
>>
>>1267820
For the moment, you are not Vickon Blackett. No, you're someone considerably shorter and weaker. More female too. You are Bethany Blackett, and you hate everything right now. You hate the restrictive and fluffy dress, though you do really like the jewelry. You hate having to be all prim and proper, because you know if you embarrass daddy he's going to be upset. Sure he won't do anything, probably, but he'll get all grumpy and ignore you for a few days. He just started acting way happier and more... motivated all the time. You don't want him to go back to sulking. You worried a lot about him.

The big feast is going to happen soon. People are arriving from all over Lord Mallister's land, and from the lands of Frey, Ryger, and Blackwood. You're gunna have to be... regal. Play nice with the nobles and the knights and all that. You're no good at that. You like the Ironbreakers, and the men-at-arms, and even the smallfolk. They're really nice to you, and you don't have to act all polite and ladylike. Atleast you get to wear the dagger daddy gave you. You named it Seafang! Sure, it's just a knife, but it's YOUR knife!

Time to go and talk to people, I guess. Or you could just stick around daddy.

>Kaisen can help with this. Just hang around him, he'll keep people off your back.
>Ser Silverwood! There's a nice guy. He's not very good at fighting, but he's a good leader, and real ncie to you.
>You can see where some of the young children of the various nobles are hanging out. You could head over there, but this IS supposed to be your 'coming out' party.
>Nope! Hide with daddy. He's greeting people. You can probably get away with just standing by his side and not embarrassing yourself.
>Write-in is eternal.

Yesss. There's Ser Willar Silverwood. Thank the Seven. He's a really nice guy, a bit soft and gentle for a knight, but an excellent leader and commander. You saved his life on the road to Seagard, and he's had nothing but nice things to say to and about you. Yes, you'll spend time around him, and you'll be seen as speaking with a distinguished knight and a neighbor of your daddy- father, and nobody will complain. You approach, head held high, making sure and loo your most noble in your black velvet dress, the skirt and arms slashed to show the deep blue silk layer beneath. Silver jewelry and trimmings abound, and your necklace has a beautiful sapphire set in it. Good, proper Blackett colors.

Fff- nope, oh no, abort, abort! A tall and distinguished looking man, he has a close cut salt-and-pepper beard and long hair, with a hooked, hawkish nose has just approached Silverwood. He's wearing black and red clothing, with a magnificent raven-feather cloak. He's got that same naturally 'grim and serious' look to him that your daddy does, and the symbol on his cloak-pin... Ahahaha oh dear, that's Lord Tytos Blackwood. Hahaha oh no, no, abort- Too late. Silverwood's seen you. That cruel man, hateful, you never liked him, you smile as sweetly as you can manage as he motions you over.

"My lord Blackwood, may I have the honor of introducing lady Bethany Blackett, heir of Blackett, and the lady for whom this feast is, in part, being thrown." He says. "Bethany, this is Lord Tytos Blackwood, my liege lord and Lord of Raventree Hall." You curtsy deeply- this is a man on the scale of Lord Mallister, your daddy's liege, and he's bowing slightly to you.

"It is a pleasure, lady Blackett. I hope the day finds you well. My nephew has had nothing but the highest praise for you." He explains. Oh man, talk fast, or you're doomed!

"Y-you t- nephew, your nephew is too kind, m'lord." You stutter out, bowing your head. Yes! Talking to one of the most powerful lords in the Riverlands, keep your head on straight. You can do this, Beth. You can do this. "Especially after my d- father was a bit overzealous in their sparring." You laugh gently, hiding your mouth behind one hand, and ser Silverwood thankfully laughs along with you, gently touching his chest.

"Yes, Willar told me of that little incident. He couldn't stop raving about your father's strength and skill." Yesss, thank you Silverwood, putting in the good word. And you're back on good footing too! Fighting is the sort of thing you understand! You grew up with your father and his Ironbreakers as your primary rolemodels, so this is your wheelhouse!

"Speaking of sparring, m'lord, would any of your knights be participating in our our upcoming tourney?" You try not to look too excited. Wait, crap, are tourneys and such things ladies are supposed to talk about?! Oh Father, don't flub it now! What do ladies talk about? The weather? It's turning to spring! S-should you talk about that instead? No, that's stupid smalltalk! Swords? Yes! Swords are always a great topic! Lord Blackwood doesn't notice your internal strife and panic.

"Several, yes. Your father's lands are close enough that many of my men are interested in using it as something akin to practice, knocking off he rust before the grand tournament in Riverrun." He explains. Oh thank the Seven. You thought you were fucked! Wait, ladies don't swear, even in their own heads! Shit! Wait, crap, fuck, no, aaahahaha crap. "Will you be attending with your father?" He inquires, and you barely bite down on the squeak from being snapped out of your internal panic.

"I-I do not know, my good Lord! M-my father hasn't mentioned that yet!" You hope so. You wanna see the melee! And the joust! Oh you're not very good on a horse, but seeing two knights slam into eachother like lightning bolts is just so excitign! And then there's the melee, ooohohoho, yes, noble knights and lords going after eachother with blades and axes, yes, right up your alley. Wait, shit, is that bloodthirsty? No, wait, you thought shit again, shit, fuck, aaahahaha no. You keep a mostly straight face as you internally lose your mind a little, and Blackwood nods calmly.

>Change the subject? Oh Maiden and Warrior both preserve you, you're surviving this chat! Somehow!

Ok, ok, go with what you know. "I do hope to see it all, m'lord! My father has been teaching me the basics of defense, but I look forward to learning further!" You smile brilliantly, and don't notice his eyebrow start to slowly rise upwards. "I'm proving to be quite the natural with a sword! And my father gave me this dagger to keep at my side always!" You rest your hand on it proudly. "Is there a warrior of yours who is particularly skilled?" Oh that eyebrow is fully cocked now, a high arch.

"I have many knights in my service who are skilled, proud warriors. However, few have the skill in commanding that our own Ser Silverwood has." He explains, motioning to the ser. "He's whipped the few men I assigned to him into quite the fighting force. I understand he and your father will be holding wargames soon, to help get the men into proper fighting shape." You light up at that. Oh you want to see that! Their two armies clashing against eachother! Oh it's so exciting, you hope- wait, shit, ahyoudiditagainwhy, you shouldn't be chattering on about fighting! You're a lady!

"Y-yes! B-but that's their business, right? Ahaha, n-nothing for a proper young lady. You're cloak is, uh, is magnificent, my lord. Are you quite fond of ravens?" You ask, swallowing down your panic. Blackwood stares for a moment, before nodding. Shit, wait fuck, no, crap? Crap is better! Crap! Should you have been curtsying this entire time? No, that's stupid, right? Oh Father, Mother, Maiden, Warrior, Crone, Smith, Stranger, anybody, pay some damn attention!

"I am. They are a symbol of my house and hall, and I myself am fond of the creatures. I attended the Citadel for a small time, and earned myself a link of Black Iron, for Ravenry. It is a time of my life that I found to be quite enjoyable." He explains. Right! Scholarly! That's great, should you talk about that? Or should you try a tactical retreat! Silverwood, hold him back! Your sacrific will be remembered!

>>
>>1268186
"Fascinating! Is there symbolism behind the raven?" You politely ask. Yes! Birds. Birds good. More fuel for this house fire of a conversation!

"Our house is well known for the great wierwood tree within our Godswood. It is ithe largest known in Westeros." He prefaces. "It is home to a grand flock of ravens, more beautiful and intelligent than any but those bred by the Citadel's Archmeister of Ravenry." He seems rather proud of that! Right, maesters. There's something to talk about. You're rather fond of your new maester, Azla, and your old maester, Barden, was an important part of your life for a long tme.

"Our maester had always handles ravenry for us, but sadly he passed not too long ago, and messages to and from Ironmoor were disrupted for a time. Barden, was his name, positively ancient man, he was a master of numbers and the stars, and maps and routes." You explain remembering the old man. His chambers were always full of maps, both of the lands and seas, and of the stars and constellations. "Our new maester is much younger, Azla. He's a Northerner, and he has the most fascinating collection of rare and ancient weapons from around the world." You eagerly explain. "Both have spoken of how amazing the Citadel is. What was your impression of it?" Aced it! Talk about his interests! Guys love that shit! Fuck, you mean crap! Aaahahaha hell.

"It was fascinating, in truth. A great complex built in Oldtown, full of the finest minds in all of Westeros. Learning there was a true pleasure, and if not for my duties, I am sure I would return time and time again- perhaps even to earn more links." He replies, sounding fondly nostalgic. "I am sure I would never complete a chain, I'm far too fond of the life of a Lord, but I am sure I could work my way through a dozen links with ease." He says, sounding proud.

>[Cont]
>>
>>1268272
"Is there a lot to know about ravenry?" You ask, rather interested. "I've never really understood any of it myself, I thought you just fed them and... well, that was that? I mean, I guess it must be more, but I never really put much thought into it." Your eyes light up! "Oh, can you see through their eyes, like the Northerners are said to do?!" You stare, excited and curious. He laughs happily.

"No, I fear not. While I've heard such things on my trips to the North, I fear I am no Warg myself." He explains. "Ah, it would be something magnificent, truly, but I am not meant for it." He sighs. "A dream of my youth, and little more."

"They're real, then? Skinwalkers, and wargs, and people who see through the eyes of animals?!" You contain the urge to bounce up and down, as the man nods.

"So the people of the North would say. Rumors abound of Wargs wandering the frozen North, from place to place. They say that much of the magic of the world is dead and gone, but there are still places where it is alive and well." He gently promises. Eee- you feel like you're about to burst from excitement.

You calm yourself. Ok. Roll it back, Beth. Magic might be real, but it's in the North. Means it's not your business right now. You got a knight and a lord right here, and that is your business. "How have the festivities been so far? I would be a poor host if I did not insure the both of you have been enjoying yourselves." You say. Yeah! Be a good host, all ladylike!

"I am well, lady Blackett. Your father greeted and welcomed us not long ago, with bread and salt. I must say I am impressed; Your father has put on quite a show here. A good way of reminding us that he is one of the major trade powers in this region." Blackwood is all smiles.

"I am also well, lady Bethany. My injury is still tender, and I am forced to be more slow and cautious than I normally would." Silverwood laughs. "I am healing well, however. Your maester ambushed me as soon as I arrived, checking me over and making sure everything was in good shape. I fear if I do not keep to his orders, he may find a way to strap me to a bed here in Ironmoor." His liege laughs along, in a good natured way.

"I am glad to hear that, ser Silverwood. We have all been concerned about you, you're a friend to us, and a good man." You bow your head to him, and he grins and laughs.

"You're too kind! I look forward to when your maester will finally let me get back to business. The wargames will be great fun, and I am hoping to finally show to your father that I'm not completely useless." He jokes. You laugh politely, covering your hand again. Huh. You need like, a fan, or a kerchief, or something. Would your dagger work? Maybe.

You've done so good! You talked to a knight, and to a powerful and influential lord, and you barely screwed up at all! You got a right to be super proud of this, don't you? Yeah! Hell yeah! C-can you stop now?

Also important. A couple generations after Samadin Blackett (who I am assuming is the mad son of Logar, who built the castle and hid Shaper) was two brothers, Kaisen Blackett and Logar Blackett. Kaisen was the first son and continued the main line, Logar Blackett was second son, who married Quealla Malroy.

Hey, can we up our tourney game with mock ship battles Colosseum-style?
>>
>>1269458
Your tourney will have two main events. The MAIN event, and a secondary big one. You guys can decide what those are. The joust is the traditional MAIN event. I believe you lot were planning the melee as your second. You lot can decide differently though.

That is a suspiciously Valyrian name our cousin has. Who was his mother? I'm suddenly having a feeling he didn't agree with Vickon siding with the Rebels.

>Quealla Malroy
Fucking neato. Did they have children? That line still exist? Is the unnamed Blackett on the family tree not connected to the main line related to them, albeit very distantly?
>>
>>1269533
That line does still exist somewhere.

His mother was probably a lesser Valyrian family like the Malroys and such. The Blacketts tended towards being loyalists for a looong time. Vickon only joined the rebels because god damn Aerys you psycho fuck, aaand he had a pretty damn strong loyalty to Mallister, who was unquestionably a Rebel under Tully.

Vickon actually thought Rhaegar could have been one of the best of the Targaryens, one of the ones who made the whole family worth putting up with. He considered his death to be quite sad. He's secretly rather pleased that Rhaenys, Viserys, and Daenerys all escaped across the Narrow Sea. Fuck that Remora bitch, though.
>>
>>1269561
Also, I feel it is important to note. The Blackett canon and the Malroy canon are NOT one in the same, things such as the stronger North, that Remora bitch smuggling Rhaenys out of King's Landing, other things like that, do not exist in the Malroy canon unless Father states otherwise.

However, House Malroy DOES exist in the Blackett canon, and House Blackett DOES exist in the Malroy canon. Connections between the two families may come up at some point in the future.

Yup. Bethany had her spaghetti on a decent leash with a powerful lord. Now, her father must contest with an even more dangerous opponent: The waifu.
>>
>>1270369
You are, once more, Vickon Blackett. You've spent a far bit of time today simply greeting people, and sharing in bread and salt. You've welcomed lords and knights, and even influential and powerful merchants into your home. The great hall of Ironmoor is full of people socializing and scheming. You despise the whole ordeal, in truth. Too many people sucking up and trying to get into your good graces, pretending you've always been the best of friends, that sort of thing. You've had few proper friends over the years, and you can only spot one here. Kaisen Rivers, at your side as always. The man is one of few who you've ever met, in your entire life, who has no ulterior motives. Aye, you admit you're not the most attentive of people. Far from dense, surely, but you've never had a talent for seeing beneath the surface. Kaisen, however, has had a hundred chances, a thousand, to get one over on you and further himself. He has not. You know, he will not.

"I find myself at a loss, Kaisen." You tell the man, your look sour and unamused as you watch random lords chattering amongst eachother. "Exactly who am I meant to be talking to right now?" Trade partners? Powerful visitors? Rivals or annoyances that you're trying to keep on mildly decent terms?

"Well, Lord, I'd think your wife to be might be wise." He says, grinning cheerfully. You nearly choke on your own spit as you snap your head around. Oh, yes, wonderful. There she is, following a step behind her brother. They're a touch late, but it looks like your castellian has already handled the bread and salt. Good, good man, better do something nice for him. "And I thought you couldn't get any paler!" Kaisen chuckles, clapping you on the shoulder to snap you back to the here and now.

>ACTIONS, lord Blackett? How greet your soon to be wife and good brother?
>Sorry, gents. Ontop of the back pain I've been suffering, I seem to have caught myself a head cold. We're a touch late, but we're here. Let's do this!
>>
>>1270478
>M-m'lady! *Tips greataxe*
Really though we should just walk over to her calmly and see how we go from there.
>>
>>1270485

>>
>>1270478
the wife is no problem, the brother is probably an insufferable ass.

steel ourselves not to kill him and make our way over for polite greetings
>>
>>1270478
We don't need to be so stiffly formal, unaccustomed as we are to hosting these events. They will be family soon.
>>
>>1270478
Last time you met with them, her brother was drunk. Made things much easier, he was much more cheery, and eager to get rid of his sister. He's young, eighteen or around there you think, the youngest of five siblings, with a fragile ego and no experience. A third son, thrust into his position when one of his elder brothers died, and the other smuggled the three Targaryen children across the Narrow Sea. You feel bad for him, in truth... hopefully you can suffer through his being an ass without snapping his scrawny neck.

"Kaisen, if worst comes to worst, guard Bethany as well as you have me." You pat him on the shoulder, hold your head high, and stride forth with (fake) confidence. "Raymun Darry! My friend, it is good to see you." You are as cheerful as your bitter old ass can be, clasping hands with him when you reach him and giving a good shake. He puts on his best smile as well, and steps aside as you turn to Mariya. "And lady Mariya Darry. It is a pleasure to finally have you in my home." You take her offered hand and gently kiss it. She laughs softly, blushing ever so slightly.

"To be 'our' home soon, is it not? I have enjoyed our letters, lord Vickon. They've been something to look forward to, while cooped up in Darry." She says, and your face heats up slightly when she smiles warmly at you.

"Y-yo-yes, I have enjoyed them as well." You did NOT bloody say 'you too', no, you did not almost say it either, and you'll cleave anyone who says otherwise in half! "I had hoped the two of you would sit beside me at the high table, alongside my most important guests. I would beg nothing less, in truth." You say, and lord Raymun bows his head.

"Of course, good brother! Or is it too early to call you as such?" He asks, laughing. "We would be delighted!" He's on his best behavior, something you're thankful for. Mariya rolls her eyes.

"Try not to sound too eager, brother. But he is correct. I would... enjoy, time spent with you, getting to talk in person again." You are NOT a blushing young lad, smitten with a pretty lady. You are a proud and proper lord, and one known for grim silence and seriousness at that!

>Would you liked to seek out someone else before the feast proper?
>Or skip ahead, and have some quality time with your young wife to be.
>>

>>Or skip ahead, and have some quality time with your young wife to be.

>You did NOT bloody say 'you too', no, you did not almost say it either, and you'll cleave anyone who says otherwise in half

Let us hope that our future son does not inherit our affinity for spilling spaghetti.
>>
>>1270532
>skip ahead, and have some quality time with your young wife to be
>>
>>1270532
Unless there's somebody of particular interest, let's skip ahead. Can we get a rundown of who's around?
>>
>>1270578
Lord Jason Mallister, Lord Tytos Blackwood, Ser Willar Silverwood, Ser Dellond Ryger (son and heir of Kellond Ryger, head of House Ryger), Lord Landon Roote, a few other lesser lords and ladies and knights.
>>
>>1270597
Not much new there, I'm sure we'll have a chance to talk to Ryger over dinner. Let's feast
>>
>How much spaghetti would you want to spit, my Lord?

>ALL OF IT
>>
>>1270532
"Lady Mariya, if I may be so bold, would you perhaps accompany me? We shall take our place at the high table and talk a time, until it is time for the feast itself hm?" You offer her your arm, and she takes it easily enough. The young ser Darry pouts a touch as the two of you depart, already speaking quietly. Bethany falls in at your side, dragging her feet and looking exhausted. "Ah, daughter, this is lady Mariya Darry. I've spoken of her, and, uh, well, our uh, agreement?" You did NOT stumbled over your words. Listeners are simply hearing things.

"Yeah, I remember her. She talked me out of picking a fight with that Frey kid at Lord Mallister's court." She says, looking a bit pleased. Mariya politely offers her a hand to shake, and you palm your face as your daughter takes it and kisses her knuckles, as she's seen you and your knights do many a time when greeting a lady. Mariya laughs, a near musical sound, as you tiredly sigh and pat Bethany ontop of the head. She seems confused as you shake your head, but falls in line as you head to the table. Servants begin to direct people to their seats as you aid Mariya and Bethany both in sitting. As the most important nobles, Mallister, Blackwood, and Ryger are sat nearby you in places of honor and respect, you quietly talk with your wife to be. In time, the tables are packed full with exotic and rich food and drink, delicious meats, fish, and produce that would be more fitting on the tables of a Great Lord. Your feast is small, aye, but it's elite and well appointed.

Ah, shit. You need to give a speech, don't you? Luckily, you're well known for being a man of few words. You can get away with something short and simple.

>What say to the attending nobility, before everyone digs in?
>>
>>1270631
>lets eat
>>
>>1270631
>I know you all know me as a many of many words and florid speeches, but alas... today, my breath has been taken by my beautiful daughter and wife to be. I thank you all, my lords and honored guests, for joining me at my table. Let's eat!
>>
>>1270658
seconding this
>>
>>1270658

This is good, humorous and flattering
>>
>>1270658
sure why not. Maybe throw in just 1 generic line about "thank you honored guests for attending."
>>
>>1270631
You consider for a moment, before rising. All eyes come to you. You're bad at the average speech. Oh, getting a pack of warriors and soldiers to rally? Easy as can be. But a pack of nobles? Lords and ladies? Pfft, nope. Not your wheelhouse. Your wheelhouse is, you know, an actual wheelhouse, on your flagship, Saltcrusher. But, you can try.

"Lord and ladies, I thank you for coming. I know you all know me as a man of many words and florid speeches, but alas... today, my breath has been taken by my beautiful daughter and wife to be. I thank you all, my lords and honored guests, for joining me in my hall and at my table. Let's eat!" You sit to polite applause and laughter all around. Your daughter claps happily, and Mariya rests her hand on yours and smiles at you.

"Quite nice, my lord. I would think you quite the speaker after all." She says, smirking. You scoff and roll your eyes, but she playfully swats your arm. "Oh never fear, my darling. Tis part of the reason I'm here, is it not? I've been told for as sharp as my tongue is, it's quite skilled." She teases, smiling coyly.

"I must say, my lord Blackett, you put on quite the feast. Is this the average, hm?" Dellond Ryger, son of one of the major lords of the land, Lord Kellond Ryger. He's a powerful man, on par with Lord Blackwood or Lord Mallister, in land if not in influence. You smirk.

"We do try, ser Ryger. We may not be the most powerful or well regarded of houses, but our trade work is quite respectable." You explain. Yes, good to remind folk that your family is nothing to scoff at in the realm of wealth and trade. He smirks and bows his head, slicing into a side of thick, juicy pork, glazed in honey and spices.

"Then perhaps I will have to find my way around here more often, hm? Lord Mallister, I'm surprised to not have heard more about this, my father is usually quite knowledgable about people who throw fantastic parties!" He jokes, drawing your liege into conversation. Dodged a bullet there...

>Chat up one of the nobles, or talk with your wife? Keep the conversation light, or let yourself discuss serious things? Like what?

"I imagine you would handle things better, hm?" You ask your wife, and she smirks. "Oh no, I'm quite serious. I can't imagine how you deal with all this. On a battlefield or at sea, I can command and rule with easy, but this... it's like trying to corral a pile of ferrets and snakes." You muse. She laughs softly.

"Oh it's all quite easy, in truth. Simple rules on what you can and cannot say, to who, and when. Remembering who is who, who they know, and who their family is." She explains, shrugging. "Really, they're all quite easy to play with, once you know the rules of the game." She quietly says that, smiling impishly. You tug at the silver trimemd collar of your pitch black velvet surcoat, feeling suddenly warm under the dark blue, long sleeved silk tunic beneath.

"I... see. Perhaps not a game for me, hm?" You awkwardly decide, smiling with a slight hesitation.

"Well that's alright. I know... other games, we might play." The smile turns to a sharp smirk, and you have to take a drink of your wine to hide your sudden flush.

"I- ahem, well, for now, uh, w-what of your guests, hm? Will any ladiesor knights of note be joining our household along with you?" CHANGE THE SUBJECT, CHANGE THE SUBJECT. She sighs, waving it off. Oh thank god, you found a sore spot. Oh shit, you found a sore spot.

"Sadly, no. As you may imagine, House Darry has fallen on hard times. I fear we are almost without any true retainers, and few friends in this day. I bring only myself, and a small mountain of gold from my dear little brother." She muses. "Far more than I am worth, he complains, but worth it to be in your good graces." She laughs at that.

"Lord." Kaisen addresses you, kneeling and speaking quietly. "We've a small issue. A knight has arrived, demanding you show yourself. He's accusing you of all manner of things, including the theft of his property." He explains. "One ser Merrett Frey. Shall we handle him, or would you like to come see yourself?" He asks, keeping things low. He's between you and Mariya, though, and she's heard. She sighs, and holds her face in her hands.

"I apologize, Vickon. The little frogspawn is the one who my brother was in negotiations with over my hand. No true arrangements were come to, and all things called off when your offer came, but... well. He's a rash young man, a brute and dullard." She looks uncomfortable, being on the back foot, and terribly apologetic and more than a bit ashamed over this.

>ACTIONS?
>>
>>1270890
Oh, hell.
This is a risky plan, but... what if we had Kaisen secretly knock his ass out or drug him for a bit, and then he'll sleep through the feast, and we can deal with him afterward? When he wakes up we tell him he fell and hit his head and we were taking care of him

Sure, I understand its within our rights... but that doesn't mean its the smart move.
What do we gain by shitting on him? Nothing, everyone knows we're a great duelist.
What do we stand to lose? A lot, we seem violent in front of these important lords if we go overboard, we disrupt from this feast that we set up to talk about trade and unity, and if we kill him, we could piss off the old frog even further.
We're a trader, we know enough about return on investment to know not to go crazy.

No we aren't. A duel with peacebound weapons is a typical and acceptable way to resolve this conflict. Petyr Baelish even thought as much. We don't even have to have live steel.

And look at Vickon's stats. He isn't the talker. If we rolled for Persuasion on a 2d6, even with intimidate bonuses from somewhere else, I very much doubt we'd pass.

You indulge in a deep and warm laugh. "Fear not, my dear betrothed. You have nothing to apologize for and this, this is a fight I know how to handle. We shall see how blustery he is when facing me down personally." You stand, dusting off a few crumbs from your surcoat. "Excuse me, my friends. I've business to handle. I shall return shortly." You politely promise, and Mariya worriedly follows along behind. Bethany tries to stand as well, but you bid her sit. "Entertain our guests until I return, my daughter." You warmly command.

The look of raw betrayal and horror warms your heart.

You stride through the halls as Kaisen explains. "Seems pretty drunk, Lord. And a dullard at that. Didn't react much over the boys advising him to walk along." He muses, scratching his chin. "Not even sure he's really a knight, he wears mail and carries a bastard sword. We thought he might just be a drunk, but Jadsen, he served the Freys for a short time. Said he could confirm the man's identity." You grunt.

"Oi! There ye are, ye rotten fuck!" You enter the yard, just within the gatehouse, and find them an flanked by several Frey men-at-arms, and watched over by Jadsen Rivers and Valder Pyke. The men salute you even as the man keeps it up. "An there's the woman 'erself. Promised to me, she was, when 'er sister sells 'er right from under me! I'll not have it!" He has one hand on the big sword on his hip... and you can't help but chuckle. This is literally the easiest thing you've ever had to deal with.

"Lad, I'll not have you speak that way in my own home. Go home to your father, boy." You spit, tree trunk arms crossed over your barrel chest. He's a short man, aye, but he's built like a bull, strong, wide. Clumsy though, and quite drunk. He flushes brilliant red at your belittling him. "And when you speak of my betrothed, boy, you will do it with more respect." Here your tone is harder, colder. "Or I will defend the lady's honor." You're starting to draw a small crowd, lords who's servants and men-at-arms ran to tell them of the brewing trouble.

"I'll talk about that slag however I want!" He bellows. Your eyes narrow, darken, and the hairs on the back of your neck start to rise up. You start to speak when a shriller voice comes, full of indignity.

"Don't you talk about her like that!" Thank you, Bethany. Well said.

"Oi! You shut up, you little bitch!" He barks back. Welp, every single one of your Ironbreakers in attendance just hefted their longaxes. Even little ser Silverwood is gripping the dagger on his hip.

ANGRY SQUID NOISES
>>
>>1271200
>throw him into the swamp
Gods that sounds satisfying. Speaking of the swamp, how did his drunk ass even get here? Did he sail up the river just to harass us, then get drunk on the trip?
>>
>>1271180
>"go home, boy, you're drunk and asking for trouble"
and "and since I am your host I am obliged to provide for your polite requests"
>>
>>1271180
and taking a chance of getting cut down by a drunk retard and die to an infection.
No thanks
>>
>>1271179

Let's play this out as a proper Lord, given that we have a crowd and are being watched

"I'll remind you where you stand sir and who you are speaking to, apologize at once and we will let you leave. Or I will be forced to defend my families honor."
>>
>>1271206
If you had to guess? He probably came here as part of the Frey delegation, needling you on Walder's orders, buuut being a drunkard and a moron, he... well, got drunk and moronic.

So, the question comes down to:
>Duel
>Humiliate
>>
>>1271215
Duel
>>
>>1271210
this, if the lil' shit persists

well, we tried

*Angry squid noises*

Duel the cunt
>>
>>1271215
>Duel

>"I'll remind you where you stand sir and who you are speaking to, apologize at once and we will let you leave. Or I will be forced to defend my families honor."

This intro if possible, we are still dealing with a major house and we have other Lords watching us
>>
>>1271210
We already did.
"Or I will defend the lady's honor."

>>1271215
>Humiliate in a duel
>>
>>1271215
>Humiliate
Duling the drunk is in poor taste.
>>
>>1271215

>>
>>1271223

>>

Your eyes narrow, and you start forward, clearing the distance in long, ground eating steps. The damn little fool goes for his sword, trying to jerk it free from the sheath. He manages it, but you're on him well before it would do any good. You grab the sword, and shatter several teeth in a powerful right hook. He stumbles back, his men at arms scattering before your rage, and you grab him by the front of his mail vest. "Come on now, lad. I think it's time you went home." You declare, grinding your teeth. He's quite dazed, drug limply by your massive hand. Past the gatehouse, towards the river. Luckily, the castle butts up right against it. You've got a lot of folk following to see what you do, including the Frey's many men-at-arms.

"I find cold water can help, when I get a bit too deep in my cups." And bodily into the swamp he goes. His men scramble after him, to help him in his thrashing in the mud and water. "And as for this." You grip his sword in both hands, and bend the sword clean in half. The metal groans as you leave the tip nearly touching the handle, then tosses it on in after him. "Swords are for men, lad. Not drunken little boys." You declare, earning quite a round of applause as Mariya takes your arms, happy as a peach.

"No honor in dueling with a drunken brat, I suppose." Jason Mallister says, observing as everyone floods back inside, chattering eagerly about the occurances. More than a few are surprised at your restraint, and almost all greatply impressed with your skill and strength. "Would have been more final, though. And a proper duel would likely have kept Lord Frey's mouth shut about all this." His lips quirk into a smirk. "I suppose you're no stranger to Walder's ire, though."

>Actions? Wrap things up here? Timeskip through the feast, spending more time with waifu, brat, and various lords? Or something specific to handle?

>>1271310
Hah. Luckily, Vickon rolls enough dice that even crappy rolls trump many people's good ones.

>>1271311

I'd say that we timeskip, assuming that we discus such things. I want to get some more plot development in, and would like to quit the mixing and mingling roleplay for now. If I enjoyed such social interactions I would not be here on 4 chan
>>
>>1271444
As long as they do get discussed in passing, i'm okay with the timeskip. I just hope they don't get overlooked. I really think an anti-Ironborn initiative is our ticket to greater influence

Alright, guys. OP is suffering sickness again, a mixture of various things that leaves me all six sorts of laid up. Tomorrow we continue, with timeskipping to the war games.

>>
>>1271477
clearly what we need to do is break the swords of everyone in the tourney
>>
>>1271464
Not sure why I put a +6. But five is pretty solid.
>>
>>1271477

what are other ways to get influence? we will probably need it. We will not stop until we have a heir!

for exemple, do we get an influence boost if we win at a major tourney like the Tully's?
>>
>>1271490
Yup. The main glory will be a special prize if you win the Melee, but a bit of Wealth and Influence will come your way too.

The Tully's are a powerful family, and one of the richest in all the Seven Kingdoms. The prize for a massive tourney like this, in honor of their heir marrying, will be impressive indeed.

...If Tywin had fallen into Robb's trap, why would there BE a Red Wedding? There wouldn't have been the later months of stalemate with the Army in Harenhal checking Northern advance, Tywin's army wouldn't have been able to link up with the Tyrells to break Stannis' siege...

>>
>>1277004
In the events of Tywin falling into Robb's trap the Northen army would destroy the Lion's army of twenty thousand but would certainly take a beating in doing so. Edmure won with his eleven thousand men because he had the advantage of the Red Fork on his side.

Robb knew he couldn't take on Tywin's host and gambled on Stannis winning at King's Landing to give him the strategic victory to win his campaign.

Meanwhile Walder and Roose where already thinking of double crossing their liege, a weakened Northern army would only make the deal sweeter since Robb having lost Winterfell is what made Roose turn his back. They would only trade the Lannister's red for the Baratheon's red, the personal coat of arm of Stannis with that R'hllor heart.

In the end Robb lost in canon because of the long term goal while his army and Edmure were still strong, do you think it wouldn't change if he was in a weakened position?

The Red Wedding was a combination of Robb getting it on with that Westerling girl pissing off Walder, Edmure fucking it up, Balon's autism striking the wrong target and Tywin, sensing an oportunity, sending feelers to Roose to strike a deal.

Would Stannis make a Deal with Walder and Roose? Nope, but would they try to gain something out of this? The Fat Bastard set it up that it would happen no matter what the players in the game did.
>>
>>1277014
snorting vodka has been known to work
>>
>>1278058
But if Lannister army would fall for Robb's trap then Tywin would not have enough men to defeat Stannis and he would get King's Landing. In that situation Lannisters would be crippled and Stannis also would not have enough force to march north, forcing him to accept Robb as King in the North.

Also you may overestimate how much losses would Northern army take, as medieval battles were not so bloody.
>>

>>1278356
it really depends how the battle plays out. If the Lannisters have high enough disciple, it could end up as a meatgrinder. If they routed, the Northern army would have way less losses.

Ultimately, Robb easily could have lived a long life if he stayed above the Neck. Giving up the Riverlands would suck, but it's not nearly as defensible
>>
>>1278400
Rob's screwed no matter what. His greatest mistake is being a moralfag and letting squid boy back home
>>
>>1278415
*mistakes are
>>
>>1278415
yeah, Robb was never meant to be a viable king. The only way he could have won was if everyone else helped him out indirrectly.

Hell, if Euron had arrived earlier, he'd have taken all of the warriors from the Iron Islands. They'd be a paper tiger after that, they could do shit to the North after it

>>
>>1278356
>Also you may overestimate how much losses would Northern army take, as medieval battles were not so bloody.
I do believe that for the chance to capture Tywin, Robb would sacrifce a lot of men willingly. He only had 6k men roaming the Westerlands against Tywin's 20k. Sure Edmure and Roose would hit Tywin in the back but it'd be a bloody battle as they would have only this one chance to take Tywin out.

Think about it, if you capture the man, who's the next best thing they've got? Kevan Lannister, an ok commander and politician but he's nothing compared to Tywin. Capture Tywin and kill Kevan, as the man would die for Tywin anyway and their 3rd best option is Addam Marbrand, or Garette Brachen if you stay in the 4chan canon.
>>

Well guys, I have bad news. I mentioned my sick brat, right? Well, he had a bit of a fit and knocked my computer down onto the floor. With the power cord in it. Which it landed on. Thus breaking the little probe thing off inside.

So! I have to get a new power cord. I'd say I have... Oh, six hours of battery left? Five and a half? Something like that. After that, it'll be... oh, six to eleven days before the new charger gets here in the mail. Assuming I can scrape together the money for it.

Fuck I loved that campaign; the ridiculous power those holdings could pump out every month leading to a situation where we were obliged to send off half our forces to serve as mercs on another continent just so our neighbours and liegelords wouldn't become afraid we were about to conquer the whole damn Vale.
