"It's hot." the first words that come to mind as you wake up in the family hut. Your home is by no means fancy, a simple shack created of your mothers bending skills, and your dads tireless work of collecting and trading off the, not so common things of value found in your humid swampy home.

You stand from your 'bed' to the common feeling of the muddy ground beneath your feet. No matter how often you or your mother fix the floor, new mud and swamp water always finds its way into your home.

"It's to early" you say. But alas you cannot sherk your duties.

You leave your hut and enter in to the tiny community of the swamp. A community of thirty or so younger families all recently coming to the swamp to avoid whatever conflict may be happening in their homelands. The skirmishes between the countless reigons of the fractured earth empire, or the unbearable poverty of the lower class in the larger cities, such as Ba sing se, Omashu, and Republic city.

Wherever these people come from you cannot fathom the circumstances that lead them to your lifelong home. The humid Swamp, over where they had been prior. Regardless of this you continue your morning, a strict schedule of awaking at 5am an hour of walking to the family farm a mile away on the open plains outside.

Your parents already having their days filled with trade and scavenging respectively.

The people in your tiny village also begin to awaken as you do, making their ways out into the makeshift streets of raised earth, already covered in vines, leaves, and dirt; Though they had been re-created not but a week ago.

As you prepare to leave the village there are a few people also getting ready to head to the fields.

>A) Wait up for this group of people and walk along with them.
>B) Go it alone.

You have all day to talk to people while your working. Best to head out now; and what better way to make your trip easier than taking your pet. You head behind your home to the 'stable' you constructed for your best friend. You throw open the doors and brace yourself, and sure enough as always your pet Ostrich horse greets you with a friendly little tackle.

You begin your hours treck to the field. Nothing any different than normal. Vines, mosquitoes, vines, mud, the occasional spirit floating by overhead, vines, some Catfish Gators alongside the 'in retrospect' much to narrow road. But you stay on guard as you and your pet keep moving down the road.

No more than three minutes later, you hear a distinctive shout of fear coming from ahead.

Most of the people in your village are benders or ex-solders from the many territorial struggles around. They could probably handle the problem. No use to backtrack. Right? There is probably not a very high chance anyone else besides them would be out in a swamp this early in the morning.

>A) Rush ahead, help whoever mad the shout.

I was going this direction anyway, might as well see what all the fuss is about.

And with that you and your Ostrich horse' Name ' take off down the trail. Bypassing several of the other villagers who had left earlier than you. None of them even seem to care about the shouting of whoever is ahead.

You follow a trail of shouts slightly off track of the main road and into the swamp itself. The mud squishing between the talons of your steed with every step. Until you reach the origin point of the sound.

"...I Can't believe it got me again!" you shout. Looking at the source of the shout. A screeching bird. "Damnit"

But your anger is cut short. 'I seem to be lost' you think as you try to recall which direction you came from. The footprints of your steed already filled in with swamp water.

As you are trying to determine your position a voice comes to you.

"Are ya lost?"

A sigh of relief comes easily as you thank your stars that someone is actually out here. "We are close to the village righ-" but as you turn around no one is there.

"Nope!" you say as you grab your steeds reigns "Go!"

Without any particular direction to it your horse dashes off forward. Jumping over roots, avoiding pools of swamp and every predator that may be beneath the surface of them.

"Why are you running" a voice from the left

"I'm not going to hurt you or anything" The same voice from your left.

"You know your going the wrong way" The voice practically whispers in your ear.

"NOPENOPENOPENOPE!" You chant trying to drown out the voice

Then for a moment the voice stops. Soon after you do as well. But if you weren't lost before... You are now.

You stand in the most confusing landscape of huge trees, vines and murky water you have ever seen. Even your home is less confusing than here.

"Are you done?" The voice from all around you

You look up. Floating in the air several meters above and in front of your pet is a boy. The boy is pale, hardly any tint to his skin whatsoever. Clad in a similar dress to the firebenders of your village. His eyes a vibrant orange. He could not be any older than seven or eight.

"Your Ostrich horse is so fast! Can I pet him!" The boy asks lazily lofting back and forth.

Everybody picked average Joe at starting. So he will respond to things in an average manor. For this you are likely scared. You are not arrogant and strong so fear is more likely to grab a hold of you. You are not particularly smart so whatever is happening you cannot figure out what it is. Also you may drop spaghetti since your not a great people person.

However in the future you will not suffer the consequences of these traits either

>>
"Uhhh, y-yeah sure" You stutter

"YEAH!" the voice echoes through the desolate swamp. The boy quickly floats toward you.

He begins petting your steed. "So, Mr.. You know your going the wrong way right?" he tells you as he gently pats its head.

"No... I was not... Fully aware of that. But, who are you if you don't mind me asking.

The boy seemingly ignores the question as he continues joyously petting the head of your pet.

"Hey, kid who are you?"

He hears and thinks for a second. "Not sure"

"Well what are you doing here and why did you follow me"

Another few seconds pass as he thinks "I've just always been here... What were you doing out here"

"I just thought I heard someone in trouble so-"

"So you rushed out to save them" the boy cuts off your thought.

"Kinda, yeah."

"That's... Wonderful. You are ... Perfect! I truly hope it will be you." The boy faintly smiles and begins to fade. Beginning at his feet through his legs, stomach chest, left arm, head. "Oh, and your probably going to want to go" the last limb a fading right hand reaches out and touches Chao(your steed) "That way" and the boy is gone.

You blink your eyes and you awake laying against Chao against a tree in a part of the swamp you have never been.

"What was that...?"

You look around in the darkness of the... what time is it? Luckly your father managed to grab you one of the newest wonders of Ba sing se for your last birthday. A personal wrist watch. "That can't be right. Dang thing must be broken" the watch reads ten minutes before you woke up.

"Lets go Chao."You say mounting your her. "What way should we go..."

Chao answers, dashing off in a beeline is a seemingly random direction. Before you can tell her to stop you find yourself at the outskirts of the swamp.

Just in time to catch a glimpse of your father on his wagon heading down the main road out of the village. "Weird, dad is always long gone before I get up. He must be late today."

You decide to go over and wish him a safe trip.

"Hey pop, be safe out there!" You shout across to him.

"It's weird dad, I woke up in the middle of the swamp like a minute ago after this weird dream. It had a firenation kid. I think and he was floating." You begin telling the story from when you thought you woke up in your bed earlier today. Or later today, you cannot really tell.

Your father stops his own Ostrich Horse pulling the wagon to listen to the tale. Soon after you finish he responds. "That swamp is a weird place Xo, you should really think about the whole experience and... Wait a second. Fire nation kid you said?"

"Yeah?"

"The town I'm delivering these supplies to has a pretty large fire nation community. Since your mother has to fix up the streets today she can't come with me either. You want to tag along with your old man? Talk a little, maybe get a little fire nation grub later?

"Sure."

And with that you and your father set out for the nearest village. Your father informs you that this trip will take several days. That these roads you will be traveling are not the safest and that everything you see is to be suspected. "Trust nothing."

You and your father travel for several hours alone the dirt road. The warm sun and fresh air a welcome change of pace from the dark of the swamp. Time for lunch rolls around and you and your father find a shady oak to take a brake under.

"So Xo, what are you thinking of the world outside the swamp? Pretty cool right?"

"Yeah, things out here are pretty neat. How much longer you think until we reach the village?"

Your father thinks for a second. "Maybe another ten hours? Depending on weather.... Wait... Xo, does something seem off to you?"

"Huh" you look around at the endless open fields, only a few people out collecting it. Nothing seems incredibly weird about the situation to you. "No, everything seems normal."

Your father leans in closer to you. "Look closely, look where the 'farmers' are."

You take a second look to the fields. To the people. "Wait..." In your entire field of vision there are only three people. Three men. With all the miles and miles of land around you, these three men are working within fifty yards of you; all three on a different side of you.

"They have us surrounded..."

You whisper back to your father. "Well what should we do?"

"Play it cool. Get on Chao, Be ready to do some bending if things get hairy."

You and your father stand and begin towards your Ostrich horses.

The man closest to you and your father begins walking toward the raised road. You look around and see that the the other two are inching closer to the two of you as well.

"Excuse me gents!" The closest man calls out stepping onto the road. "You both must be new around here, you see this is a toll road! Looks to me that you haven't paid up yet. But I like the looks of you guys, you can go for half. Leave the cart and you can keep the Ostrich horses. Ain't I nice?"

You look to your father, his hand on the hilt of his blade. "That's awful generous of you but, I just can't pay that. Maybe next time."

The false smile falls from the thugs face. "Ahh, is that so?" the man chuckles nodding his head to both the other men.

Your peaceful upbringing in the swamp has never called for much combat. From that your overall level of bending is rather weak. Knowing only the basics you have learned from your mother. Your skills with weapons are much the same, only ever watching your father train. However the swampbenders taught you the basics of mud bending as well.

"Dad get down!" You tell him.

He follows instructions and drops to the ground as you bend the mud around you into a slimey little ball.

"HE'S A BENDER! GET HIM!" The man in front of you shouts. But soon after your mud ball soars across the street and blasts him in the face, knocking him of balance and back into the wet lower terrain.

The men behind you slosh through the mud on the ground as fast as they can to reach the street.

"Go, go, go!" you tell your father rushing to Chao.

Thinking quickly you construct a pillar of rock behind you and your father as you continue to try and make your escape. After raising the pillar you turn your attention back to the road.

Not ten seconds later you hear the pillar you created get blasted down by the force of the incoming projectile.

You hadn't enough time to entirely escape the danger zone you learn all to well as your back is pelted with rubble from the collision. Not only you but Chao as well.

She lets out a pained shout but continues running.

"Watch your back kid! This ain't over!" One of the men shouts as you speed away from the scene.

...
...
...

When your father is convinced you have made it far enough from the bandits he pulls over to regroup with you. "Not bad, Xo. You're not hurt are you?"

"No, I'm fine. Besides this ache on my back."

"Let me take a look at it." Your father asks, motioning for you to turn around. "Yikes kiddo, that's one heck of a bruise you got there.Take a little break, we'll continue on in ten. May be a healer in town when we get there."

You nod to your father. And move over to Chao. You run your hand along the brown feathers of your Ostrich horse. But when you look at your hand after, trace amounts of blood are there, she must have gotten hit worse than you. She seems fine though.

And soon enough, you and your father continue on the road.

...
...
...

Closing in on dusk you arrive at the gate of a small town. But by the standards of your village, this town might as well be Ba sing se.

"You down there. What brings you here?" A guard atop the wall calls down.

Your father raises his hand. "From the swamp, got some things to sell in town."

"Course, enjoy your stay." The man disappears. Soon after the gates open up to an entirely new world. Paved streets, lamps above the street NOT lit by fire, several of what the villagers back home described as Satomobiles lining the streets.

"Take it in Xo, the wonders of modern engineering!"

Thank you for running. Starting to get good. Hope more players will come.

Thank you for reading anon. I write kind of slowly. That may have been a turnoff for the original 6 or so players.

I may do a second session in the later half of this week (Thursday/fryday-ish) If enough people are around, but next Sat/Sun are for my other quest.

You guys tell me if you would be up for a Thurs/Fri session. Its kinda an awkward time of the week for running for many people but Spring break permits it.

Here is a discord link for anyone not in. Just find your way down to Drachtmas quests for updates, and run times.

Friday*
My bad it's getting late.

Definitely Friday, rest of the week unless weekend doesn't work for me.

I'll check and see what the turnout ratio is on friday. If we got enough peeps than yeah sure, but session may be cut a tad short or begin reallly early on Sat in order to run my other as well.
