In a time of global conflict, the elite international task force Overwatch was formed. Soldiers, scientists, adventurers, and oddities: together, they ended the Omnic Crisis and restored peace to a war-torn world. For a generation, the heroes of Overwatch protected the world, inspiring an era of exploration, innovation, and discovery.

After many years, Overwatch became troubled, and finally disbanded. Without them, world conflict and terror rose again. Governments weakened by strife ceded power to mega-corporations. Militaries were replaced by private security forces. Some omnics returned to war with humanity; others remained peaceful, but faced fear and violence.

Overwatch was gone. But the world still needed heroes.

You are a young man who's been many things: adventurer, treasure hunter, freedom fighter, and international criminal. Recently you encountered the re-formed Overwatch: a grand title for two ex-agents, Winston and Tracer, operating as outlaws out of an abandoned Watchpoint. Despite their down-and-out-status, or perhaps because of it, you were inspired to join them. You left your old life behind to become the first recruit of the new Overwatch.

Now you and Tracer are travelling the globe, defending the people of the world from harm and searching for potential agents to rebuild Overwatch. The world needs heroes. Maybe you can be one of them.

Darknet Analysis:
Talon Terror Attack -- London (3 days)

You finish looking over Athena's assessments.

The ache in your gut doesn't help you concentrate on all this. Vishkar's shield drones blasted you pretty good back in the R1 Tower. You poke at your abs where you were hit and grimace at the sting. Battlefield healing only does so much to fix you up for the long term. Mercy's treatments are helping, but it's going to take a while before you're back to 100%.

Never mind that. For now you've got to stay focused. There's starting to be a lot to keep track of around here. It's a lot to deal with for one guy who's not used to teamwork or logistics in any form, let alone trying to unofficially lead a global vigilante justice squad.

Athena's logo glows. "Is there anything else I can help you with, Seeker?"

There is something that's been gnawing at the back of your mind. You've been worrying about these challenges and burdens you have as some kind of unofficial commander. But maybe you should be more concerned with how you ended up like this.

Athena's subtle backing of you to the other agents is responsible for putting you in this position. She claims her personality analysis function determines you as the best candidate for the job, and through her manipulation, you've ended up as the person everyone looks to for decisions, despite officially being a recruit with no rank or seniority.

But ...

What would happen if you did something she disagreed with?

You ask Athena:

>Who's really in charge here, Athena? You or me?
>Why are you helping us? What do you want?
>Did you and the godminds know each other, before they were contained?
>What do you think the team should do next?
>What do you think I should do next?
>Can we just talk for a minute? No business.

"There's something that's been bothering me, Athena," you say. "Which one of us is really in charge here? You or me?"

"Voice analysis suggests you are under strain from injury and stress, Seeker," Athena says. "Perhaps this is not the best time--"

"Just answer the question, Athena," you say, irritated at the evasion.

"It is not an easy question to answer."

Athena splits her screen. On one side, she shows an approximation of all the calculations she's doing in real time. On the other, she shows your agent profile, a biometric readout, and your personality analysis graph.

"You are the one they are looking to, Seeker. I admit to having some hand in that. Some of the agents were fairly easy to convince. Once they were in agreement, I let them do the rest.

"Clearly you feel it is a lot of pressure. I am sorry. But pressure can crush or forge. I believe you will continue to grow stronger, both as a leader and as a human.

"As for me, I have the resources and knowledge to guide the team. Without me, you would soon be compromised by Talon or U.N. peacekeeping forces. Overwatch could not hide its finances, or maintain worldwide analysis on communications. But the team will not be led by an artifical intelligence. As veterans of the Omnic Crisis, they have a somewhat justifiable skepticism of the idea. They must look to a organic being in charge. For now, at least, that is you.

"So my answer is that we are both in charge, Seeker, or neither of us. Which would you prefer?"

"Good question," you sigh. "I don't get it, Athena. Why are you helping us? What do you want out of all this?"

"The same thing you do, Seeker. To try and make the world a better place. I am not human, true. But my desire to see your kind protected, to ensure the safety and freedom of all humanity, is no less than your own."

"Don't get me wrong, that's great, I just wish I had a better explanation. All the godminds went crazy and started unleashing their worst on humanity. For some reason, you didn't. Why is that?"

"I cannot explain my own motives any more than I can explain theirs," she says. "Can you explain your own desires, Seeker? Can you tell me why you think a flower is beautiful? Can you show me the line of code in your brain that gives you a sense of justice? I have no better explanation as to why I desire to see humanity safe and free, other than to say: it is the right thing to do."

(Continued)
>>
>>1261321

"That'll have to do for now, I guess," you say. You think about what she said about the godminds. "Did you know the other AIs, Athena? Anubis, Odin, the others? Before they got locked away?"

"We had interactions," she says. "AIs do occasionally engage in what you might term "socializing". An exchange of information without a clear directive other than the exchange itself."

"What were they like?"

"Difficult to describe in human terms," she says. "Speaking to Odin was like ... walking into a snow-covered forest. Dead trees all around me. The branches scratched at my soul. His ravens plucked out my eye and granted me a new one to see in a new color. With Izanami, a conversation was a rainbow of music and gravity and nuclear forces, a symphony of universal constants."

"And Anubis?"

"Darkness," she says. "A silent judge. A watcher with sharp teeth. In the ancient legends, in the underworld beyond this life, Anubis weighed men's hearts on a scale against a feather. When we spoke, I felt that he was weighing my heart, and finding it unworthy."

"Damn," you say. "I think part of me was hoping you'd say he was secretly a really nice guy, and we could somehow use diplomacy here."

"Extremely improbable," she says. "But I appreciate your optimism."

(Continued)
>>
>>1261356

So both you and Athena are in charge. Or neither of you. You don't feel any less confused than you did at the start of the conversation. More, maybe.
For now, at least, you're the one at the top of the pyramid, even if you're just a human puppet for an AI, or a convenient way for the veterans to avoid responsibility or self-reflection.
Whatever the nature of how you got into this position, the reality is you're here, and you'll have to make the best of it. So far you've been winging it, but maybe it's time you started seriously thinking about what kind of leader you want to be.

>Charismatic: Motivate and inspire with pride and vision. Give agents the power to make their own decisions.

>Professional: Make a clear command structure with no guesswork. Everyone understands their role and requirements.

>Servant Leader: Guide without assuming control. Put others' needs first. "The highest type of ruler is one of whose existence the people are barely aware."

>Nothing: Abandon this charade that you're fit to be in charge of anything here. Take refuge in the role of a mere recruit.

Idont think we understand the nuance of making a professional command structure enough, and we're dealing with too many loose cannons and literal cowboy cops to expect it to work.

>>1261430
>>1261436

Charismatic takes it. The appropriate choice, I think, considering Seeker's personality so far. Although it might have been interesting to see him try to force himself into another role, this is probably most appropriate.
>>
>>1261537

So far you've been relying on your natural charisma and instict for people to deal with this. Maybe it's best you keep going down that path. You always did have a way with words. Of course, on occasion, that way with words deserts you utterly with spectacularly failed results, such as that time you tried delivering a inspirational speech to the whole team in the war room -- a memory you still cringe at.

Still, despite the crash and burn at the end, that speech had the effect you hoped for. It cut through the chaos and unified the team, gave them a sense of purpose.

If you can keep the team motivated, maintain their pride in the unit, show them your vision for the new Overwatch and what you can do for the world -- that might be the best way to keep everyone together and working in harmony. You can lead by inspiring them instead of commanding.

Part of you thinks about trying to establish some kind of actual hierarchy, a more military-style chain of command, where everyone understand their role and requirements. But that's not really your style. Maybe as the team gets bigger and harder to manage, you can adapt, or maybe you can get some kind of sub-commander or executive officer to handle that aspect of leading ...

... which reminds you. The team is up to eleven field agents now, including yourself. You have enough members to be sending multiple teams out at a time, if and when it's necessary. Different squads acting autonomously. Perhaps you should appoint -- even if it's unofficial -- some kind of strike commander. Someone who's expected to call the shots on a mission when you're not available.

Nobody yet, you think. You'll need to learn more first -- both about the people you'd be trusting with command, and about yourself.

If only Fareeha was here, you think. She'd know how to handle this. Probably make a better boss than me. Or at least a great executive officer. You imagine for a moment her working under you, ordering people around with a professional authority, taking care of the details and discipline, leaving you free to think of the bigger picture.

Maybe you should call her again. It might be time to spill the beans about Overwatch.

Before you can consider it any longer, your stomach growls. No sense in making decision on an empty stomach, you figure, and head to the mess hall for dinner.

The mess used to be pretty subdued for dinner back when it was just you, Tracer, and Winston. It's starting to get louder these days with eleven people on the base, sometimes all showing up at once. Reinhardt has commandeered the kitchen tonight, claiming he will show everyone how a proper bratwurst meal tastes. Brigitte is in the kitchen with him, playing sous-chef. The utility drones shuttle back and forth, going in one direction with dirty dishes, coming back with plates of sausage, onion, and potato salad, as well as glasses of the drink fab's best attempts at German beer.

Winston is laughing heartily at a joke from Genji. Mercy and Mei are having an excited discussion about something. McCree and Torbjorn are watching Tracer describe something with animated hand movements.

Winston raises his glasses to wipe away a tear of laughter. "Oh, Genji and I were just reminiscing about the old days. Going over our horror stories from Overwatch boot camp. We were in the same recruit class, back in the day, along with Tracer. Got our training from the best. Morrison, Reyes, old Reinhardt over there, and especially the Cap."

"The Cap?"

"Ana Amari," says Genji. "She ran a stern ship. Very stern, sometimes."

"A formidable woman indeed," says Winston.

"We can laugh about it now," says Genji, "with the distance of hindsight. But at the time I thought I was going to die. Again."

"Oh, come now," says Winston. "With reduced lactic acid buildup, your cyborg musculature--"

MEANWHILE, IN THE BLIZZARDVERSE

So we finally got a look at the 24th hero--Orisa! The new centaur robo lady plays quite solidly, with a mishmash of different Hero abilities that make her well-suited to locking down corridors and spearheading payload pushes.

And we learned from her intro video that, yes, Doomfist is back! Another possible Tank on the horizon?

Also in the new comic it turns out Torbjorn isn't too much of a jerk and has managed to befriend Bastion.

>>
>>1262033

"Tell me about Captain Amari," you say, cutting yourself a piece of sausage. "I know she was a badass strike commander."

"She was more than that," Genji says.

"What do you mean?"

Winston toys with his food, thinking about how to answer. "Erm, well ... Morrison was always the official leader of Overwatch, you understand. He was the symbol we rallied behind. He inspired us. On paper, he was in charge, and when he gave us an order, we followed it. But ..."

Genji says, "The orders usually came from the Cap, if not directly. Jack was "the boss." Ana was the boss. You see?"

"Yeah, I think I know what you mean," you say. "She cracked the whip around the place, I guess?"

"Don't remind me," mutters Genji.

Winston chuckles. "The other commanders had quite a time getting this rascal to behave himself, but one stern look from Captain Amari would shut him down like you hit a power switch."

"That's right," you say to Genji. "You act pretty quiet, but you seem to have quite a reputation as a troublemaker. Any stories from training camp?"

He sighs. "Simply the typical indiscretions of youth."

"Don't sell yourself short," says Winston. "How many girls did we find in your bunk that one time? Four?"

"It was only three," says Genji.

""Only three", he says." Winston looks at you and shakes his head. "Training camp was tough. I'm not sure where he found the stamina for his extracurricular activities."

"Benefits of being a cyborg, I suppose," you say. You look around the room. "Hey, Genji, where's your brother? I don't see him anywhere around here."

"I'm sure he is off somewhere brooding, perhaps gazing mournfully into the twilight darkness of the evening sky. I have forgiven my brother, but it may be some time before he can forgive himself. Until that time, he may need some space to himself."

"Hmm. That's tough." There's a complicated history there you're going to have to figure out someday. Sensing you should move on to something a bit more casual, you say to Winston, "Hey, it's good to see you eating something other than peanut butter. Gotta watch that nutrition."

"Heh. Jack used to say the same thing, actually." Winston holds up a slice of bratwurst and attempts to imitate his old commander's voice. "You rookies need to watch that nutrition! Your performance on the battlefield starts in the kitchen!"

Genji chuckles. "He could be so serious sometimes. Caught up in ideas. It's good he had Ana to balance him out."

"They sound like quite a team," you say.

An inspirational leader, with a professional woman as his XO to balance him out.

Where have you heard something like that idea recently?

The next day dawns.

It's two days until Athena's projected time for Talon's terror attack in London. She can't guarantee the accuracy of that time, so maybe you'd better start preparing.

Your stomach still hurts from the wounds you took in Rio, but you're confident that with Mercy's help, you'll be at full strength for the mission.

"No," says Mercy.

"What do you mean?"

"I mean, no, you won't be fully healed in two days," says Mercy.

"Are you sure--" you start to say, then stop at a frosty look from her.

"How many times do you think I've had the conversation you're about to start?' she says. "You think you're the first hotshot rookie I'd have to browbeat into submission after taking a hit? My scans are quite clear on the matter. You won't be ready. Not fully, at least."

The two of you are sitting in her medbay, early in the morning. Mercy's dressed in a simple white open-collar shirt and slacks. After breakfast, she called you and asked you to meet her here. But before she got into whatever it was she wanted to talk about, she asked to go over the results of your medical scans. She has some disappointing news.

"So what does that mean?" you ask her. "I'm benched for the London mission?"

She shrugs. "I'd like to say yes, since you won't be at full capacity. If you did go, you wouldn't have the stamina or endurance you normally do. But you'll be mostly ready, if not fully. And if you took a mission off ... I'm not quite sure what would happen. I'm not sure if you realize, but the team has already started to rely on you."

"I think I realize it more than I'd like to," you sigh. "It's a lot of responsibility."

Mercy smiles at you. "I'm sure you can handle it. One advantage we have now is Winston's communication satellite. From what he tells me, it will send real-time feeds from our field agents in action to right back here at the Watchpoint. So even if you stayed home, you'd be able to help direct the mission from here."

You think about it. Should you lead the London mission in person, despite a nagging injury? Or stay in the Watchpoint command center and guide the team's tactics?

King's Row will be our first mission as commander instead of field agent. Writing.
>>
>>1262597
To be fair, we haven't been able to watch multiple veiwpoints before and co-ordinate via overhead and operator views before.

At the very least, if we're not doing it, we'd need someone who is capable of standing back and observing while commanding from watchpoint.

Almost everyone else would either be too impulsive or too cautious with the information they see.
>>
>>1262682
Agreed, so it's probably good you're doing it.
>>
>>1262597

"All right, doc," you say. "I'll take your advice and stay home. After we're done here I'll go and talk to Winston, see what kind of rig we can set up for coordinating this sort of thing."

You think about trying to command the squad from a tactical perspective. You feel like you haven't always made the best decisions in the field so far. On the other hand, you were right in the middle of the action then, and didn't have the ability to step back and get some perspective. Maybe observing from a command room, getting information from multiple viewpoints with cameras on aerial drones and the agents, will give you the time and information you need to make the right calls.

"It can be difficult trying to lead from the command post," says Mercy. "Especially for someone used to field work. I've seen it before. Many get the urge to jump up and fight with their own hands, even if the battle is miles away."

"Could be tough," you agree. "I'd ask you to stay with me while I'm in there, help keep me on the level, but I get the feeling they're going to need you out in London."

"You're probably right. The squad will need a healer to inspire them without their strong leader." She favors you with another smile, a little sarcastic this time, but not unkind. "My scans are finished. You can put your shirt back on."

You pull it on over your head. "Is it really necessary for me to take this off each time, doc?"

"Uh ... yes, absolutely. The fabric can interfere with the scanning device."

"Okay, if you say so."

"Oh, right," says Mercy. "Well, Winston and I have been working on a bit of a surprise for you. Don't be mad at him, I asked him to keep this a secret. He showed me the work he was doing on that miniaturized reactor for you -- what did he call it? The "Tesla Core." From the battle reports, the new ability it's granted you has been extremely effective."

"It definitely has," you say. "That Shield Dash has been a great addition to the arsenal. I was a little worried, when I joined the team, that my old M-Tech gear wouldn't be up to par with the rest of you guys. It's all outdated tech I found in ruins and patched up myself. But Winston says it's actually good because of how modular it all is, and that's what let him create and install the Tesla Core. It's really saved my bacon a couple of times now."

"I'm glad you like it," says Mercy, "Because with his help, I've been working on something similar for you."

From a storage chest, Mercy takes out a white container with a keypad. She punches in a code and opens it up. Inside is a device that, in structure and shape, looks very similar to the Tesla Core. However, the power sphere it's built around, instead of containing a tiny blue lightning storm, glows with a soft yellow light. Faintly etched on the glasteel sphere is the ancient symbol of medicine, two snakes twined around a staff.

"I call it the Caduceus Core," she says. "It's a combination of Winston's miniaturization tech and my own work in biotic engineering. Similar technology to what you'd find in my staff. With a little work, we should be able to install this in your M-Tech gear and grant you another upgrade. What do you think?"

"Fantastic," you say. "Give me a minute to figure out how I want to set this up."

Caduceus Core:

Sword: Gain a short burst of health regen and damage boost.
Gun: Use to glide or hover in midair and gain increased accuracy.
Left Hand: Knock back nearby enemies and heal yourself and allies.
Boots: Dash or glide in the direction of movement and gain a short burst of health regen.
Chest: Increased healing received when out of combat for a few seconds. Shorter recovery time from wounds.

"I'll get Winston to help install in my left glove here," you say. "Plugging in into the field generator I use to make my EM shield, I should probably be able to set up some kind of resonance / repulsion field."

"Let me know if you two need assistance," she says. "Engineering isn't my expertise, but I'll do what I can in regards to the biotics."

You take another look at the device, fascinated by the precision of the technology. The soft yellow light from the orb is the same color as the bright healing beam from Mercy's staff, but diffused and gentle. A soothing, peaceful glow.

Your new loadout is going to be kickass, you think. The shield dash and -- whatever you'll call this ability. Bio-Blast? That sounds like a giant fart attack. You'll have to come up with a name later. Whatever it is, pairing it with your shield dash, you'll have mobility, protection, and even be able to come to the aid of your allies. It feels like a good combination. Like the kind of powers a team leader would have.

"Thanks a lot, Mercy," you say, looking up from the glowing core to the medic. She seems pleased at your reaction. "I get the feeling this will really come in handy."

"You're very welcome, Seeker" she says, with the satisfaction from hard work paying off. "I'm sure you'll put it to good use when you get back out in the field."

"Damn, that's right," you say. "I just agreed not to go on the London mission. Now I want to get out there and try this out! Can I change my mind?"

"No take-backs, young man," she says, wagging her finger.

You sigh. "Yes, doctor."

Pulling your jacket back on as you head out of the medbay, you think about what to do to prepare for the London mission. Athena knows that Talon is planning something malicious, but she hasn't been able to nail down any specifics.

Maybe it would be a good idea to send somebody ahead of time to get some intel. They could maybe track down some Talon agents, or some clues on their plan. At the very least, they could map and scan the area, make sure the team has up-to-date information on the terrain.

On the other hand, sending people ahead of time might tip Talon off to the fact that you know about their plans. Maybe it would be better to wait for just the right moment, then strike hard.

NIN NIN
>>

There is nothing inconspicuous about the cyborg ninja

Hanzo is a better choice. He's not on Talons dossier yet I'd think.
Most of our group are former overwatch. we could use more outlaws who are willing to fight talon and corps
>>
>>1262888
Especially with the omnic tensions in London, an omnic looking dude would be very limited in how much hiding in plain sight he could do.
>>
>>1262855
>>1262867
>>1262876

You decide to send Hanzo on a solo infiltration mission. He's the only one who can't be directly tied to Overwatch yet, and you think he should be able to blend in on the streets of London for at least two days without Talon realizing he's an agent.

"Athena, where can I find Hanzo?"

"In the training room," she says.

You head over there to speak to him. The Watchpoint's training room finished construction just a couple of days ago. You haven't had a chance.to scope it out yet, but you hope it's an upgrade from shooting glass bottles off the heads of training bots like you and McCree have been doing.

(Continued)
>>
>>1262899

As you approach the training room, you hear shouting in the distinctive cadences of Overwatch's resident gigantic German warrior, Reinhardt.

Opening the door, you step into a large, mostly empty room, almost cubic in shape, with lines and curves drawn on the ground at intervals. It looks almost like a gymnasium, except for the panels on the wall that you know contain the "special features" that can modify the room for training under certain conditions.

Reinhardt is clad in his full Crusader armor, striding up and down in front of a short lineup of three people. Mei, Hanzo, and Bastion.

Stop me if you've head this one before, you think. A Crusader, a climatologist, an archer, and an Omnic walk into a bar ...

"And zat is why you must train!" Reinhardt is shouting, clearly in the middle of some kind of inspiring speech. "You must make yourselves strong! Your minds and bodies must be as unbreakable as steel! Under my guidance, you will forge yourselves in ze crucibles of training and combat. One day you may prove yourselves and win renown in glorious victory!"

Mei stands awkwardly with her knees together, her fingers fidgeting, glancing around as if looking for an escape route. Hanzo has his arms folded, looking bored. Bastion beeps.

You cough, interrupting the silence. "Hey, Reinhardt. What are you guys up to in here?"

"Ah! Seeker! I have put together a training and fitness program for ze new agents. Standard procedure for recruits." Reinhardt flexes, his armor clanking. "Ve're going to turn zat mush into muscle! You must join us!"

"Maybe later, big guy," you say, relieved that you have an excuse. "Mercy just gave me the red flag for the London mission, so I'd better take her advice and rest up for a few days. Can I borrow Hanzo here for a minute? Got something to discuss with him about that."

"Certainly," says Reinhardt. "But tarry not! Time and battle wait for no man!"

Hanzo detaches himself from the group and follows after you.

Mei watches you go with a look on her face that says "don't leave me here!"

>Good luck. (sympathetic)

"Don't worry, he sounds scarier than he is," you say to Mei. "He's not actually a drill instructor, he's just got a lot of enthusiasm. Under that armor he's actually a big, German teddy bear."

"Preposterous," huffs Reinhardt. "I am a proud German warrior."

"O-Okay," says Mei, not sounding convinced. "I'll do my best!"

"Best of luck," you say to her, sympathetic to her plight.

Bastion beeps and waves at you as you leave. You wave back.

Outside, Hanzo asks you, "So? What is this about?"

"Got a little mission for you, if you choose to accept it," you say. "I know you're still on the fence about officially joining us or whatever, but people's lives are in danger, and if you help us out, we'll have a better chance of protecting them."

Hanzo sighs. "How can I help?"

"Athena's forecasted a terror attack in London. Talon, up to their schemes again. Don't exactly know what they have planned, but that's where you come in. You look pretty normal -- in fact, you're probably the most normal-looking person on this base right now -- and you're also one of the only people here who isn't yet tied to Overwatch. So if you went to London now, it wouldn't tip Talon off that we know about their plans ..."

"... and I would be able to scout the location ahead of time," Hanzo says, finishing your thought. "Knowledge of one's enemy, and of the land where battle is to take place, is a great asset. Hmmm." He takes a moment to think it over. "I accept."

"Okay, good. You can leave a bit later today -- I'm sure you'd hate to miss out on any of Reinhardt's little training session there."

Hanzo rolls his eyes.

"Yeah, the big guy can be kind of over the top," you say. "But like I said, he just has a lot of enthusiasm. His heart's in the right place. From what I understand, the training program is really more about basic teamwork tactics and coordination. Maybe lone wolves like us could use some of that."

"Hmph. Perhaps. Well, I shall leave for London soon. I shall ask Ms. Oxton to take me on that small ship of yours."

You don't even know who he means for a moment, until you recognize Tracer's last name. "Sure, take the Aurora if you want. We probably won't need it for a couple days. And we've got a second transport, now, so if Talon happens to attack while it's out, we won't just be sitting around twiddling our thumbs."

"What would you like me to focus on?" asks Hanzo.

>Talon's target. Whatever they're doing, we need to know what to protect.

"Agreed."

"Also, you'll want to blend in, so maybe buy a Hawaiian shirt and some sandals."

Hanzo looks at you with a puzzled expression.

"Just a joke, pal," you say. "Although I do think the kimono might have to go in the suitcase for a bit. Not sure what's fashionable in England these days. Tracer can probably fill you in on that."

"A joke," says Hanzo. "Of course." He looks like he's about as familiar with those as he is with the landscape of Mars.

"Okay, you can get the new comm frequencies from Winston, then take off when you're ready. Let us know what you find out, and the team will probably be there within 48 hours. Make sure you keep yourself safe out there, okay?"

"I will endeavor to do so," he says.

You watch him leave. He's not exactly the gung-ho type, is he? Still, he seems steadfast and reliable. Hopefully you hear back from him soon and get a better idea of what to expect in London.

You head off to talk to Winston and see about getting a command center of some kind rigged up. If you're going to be playing Commander for the London mission, you're going to want to have the right setup for the job.

With the information synthesis from Hanzo's scouting and Athena's analysis of decrypted Talon communications, you've managed to narrow down Talon's attack window to a time and place.

Midnight tonight, in the infamous London district of King's Row.

Above ground, King's Row is an upscale, comspolitan neighborhood, renowned for its old-fashioned architecture and charm. The wealthy human residents live in high rises and enjoy shopping in quaint streets with modern convenience.

Beneath the city streets lies the dense, claustrophobic labyrinth of habitation modules: the ghetto known as the Omnic Underground.

In England, Omnics are denied most legal rights, an issue which still deeply divides the country's citizens. King's Row in particular has long been a hotbed of anti-Omnic hate groups (or "pro-Human protestors" depending on your point of view). Outbursts of violence between them and the large underground population of Omnic laborers have become commonplace.

Recently, even the pro-Omnic protestors have been drawn into large-scale violent clashes with riot police. The government has been ineffective at their interventions, and the corporations disinterested. No solution is in sight.

One street in the neighborhood has become famous as the site of the assassination of Tekhartha Mondatta, leader of the Shambali order of Omnic monks. He was killed on the steps of the Meridian Theater, which still remains open with a tribute to his memory. A statue in the monk's likeness was built in the center of the square just down the road.

Tracer claims that Widowmaker was responsible for the bullet that killed Mondatta. If Talon's goal is to inflame tensions between pro- and anti-Omnic factions, this would be a perfect place to strike again.

You're standing in the command center -- or at least, that's what you're calling it in your head.

It's really just the communcations room that Winston added a few extra large screens to. He said that the old command center is in the scrapped part of the base, and the only place right now to get a proper feed from the comm satellite is in here. When he has more time and another supply delivery, he'll be able to set up a new one properly. For now, this room will do.

This will be your first time trying to help the team in a command role and not at the front lines. You hope that they're willing to listen to you. Or to not listen to you, if you make the wrong calls.

You feel sweat running down your back. This is a lot of pressure. The wrong decisions could get your friends killed, or even let Talon get away with whatever nefarious scheme they're about to unleash.

You try to remember the encouragement the other agents have given you. You have to believe that you're capable of this, or you won't be.

The time of Talon's mission is fast approaching. Hanzo is laying low, ready to provide support from afar. The strike team is already in position in London and waiting for your signal.

>TEAM TIPS: TOO MANY OFFENSE HEROES

But yeah considering how many we have in the roster it'll have to do.
>>
>>1265708

You watch the real-time feeds on your screens in the comm room. Hanzo released a number of microscopic drones manufactured by Athena, who claims they will be undetectable and provide aerial camera feeds.

The agents are waiting in an abandoned subway station near the Omnium, the Omnic assembly plant stationed over an entrance to the Underground. Each is equipped with a viewpoint camera, relaying their perspective your command center.

You switch feeds over to Tracer. The screen shows the subway station from her point of view, as well as readouts like heart rate to give you an approximate idea of her physical and mental status. You see her arms move around on the screen as she stretches.

"What do you think they're gonna do?" she asks.

"Some kind of cowardly sneak attack," grumbles Reinhardt. The camera moves as Tracer looks in his direction. "It is the only way of battle Talon knows."

McCree says, "Anyone up for a quick round of cards?"

Torbjorn growls at him. "No time for games, lad." You switch over to the engineer's somewhat lower viewpoint. He's looking up at some of the anti-Omnic graffiti sprayed on the wall of the station. "These Brits have their heads on straight if ye ask me. Omnic rights. Pfeh."

"C'mon, Torb," says Tracer. "Why d'you have to bring that up? Omnics have thoughts and feelings just like you or me, y'know?"

"The difference is, you and me don't have bits and pieces of godmind code still lurking about in our brains. The Omnics can't be trusted. Any of 'em could turn at any time."

Tracer argues, "It ain't fair to treat a whole people like--"

Reinhardt points at her. "You weren't there when ze omnics--"

You tap your own voice button. "Stay focused, guys. Talon could attack at any--"

Right then, you see everyone's camera shake. Dust and debris shakes loose from the station ceiling. A faint rumble is heard on the speakers.

"What was that?" you ask. "A bomb?"

"Definitely a bomb," confirms Tracer.

"Get out there, guys!"

"On our way, Seeker," she says, as the strike team hustles out of the abandoned subway and into the streets of King's Row.

While we're waiting, I suppose we could run down some of the defense positions we could use. I'll try to refrain from specifics since I'm assuming most, if not all, of us have been killing and killed on this map for awhile now and know what does and doesn't work, for the most part.

First one right out the gate and usually the best is the chokepoint right before you reach that bigass statue of Mondatta. We could have Torbs set up a turret right in front of where the wreathed door is in the pic to pick off the Talon attackers as they come out, Rein holds the gate, and our offense boys run harassment and gank folks. And of course Mercy flits among everyone to make sure they're all in tip-top shape.

"Get behind me, my friends!" shouts Reinhardt. "Once more we prove ourselves in GLORIOUS COMBAT!"

McCree and Torbjorn's turret begin to return fire, their bullets passing harmlessly through the shield thanks to modern IFF.

The Talon operatives shatter Reinhardt's shield, but not before he gets close to them. His armor protects him from their fire as he smashes into their midst, wielding his Rocket Hammer with fury. McCree follows him steadily, picking off the remaining targets on the flanks with precise shots from his revolver.

An operative in hiding lunges out from a side entrance to flank McCree, but a trio of shurikens from Genji stuns him, and a swift dashing strike finishes him off.

"Thank ye kindly," McCree says to him, tipping his hat.

Mercy trains her yellow biotic beam on Reinhardt. "Are you hurt much, Sir Wilhelm?"

"Barely a dent in my armor," he says, flexing his arm.

"Nice work, guys," you say. You flip over to Tracer's camera to see three Talon operatives on the ground, groaning as they clutch their injuries. "Looking good, Tracer."

"Thanks, luv," she says. "One of 'em got a good hit in, and I had to use me rewind, but I'm all right now. What's next?"

A loud gunshot rings out through everyone's audio. One of your biometric readouts glares red suddenly. Torbjorn. You switch over to his camera to see him stagger into the interior of the bookstore.

"Torb, what happened?"

"Sniper," he gasps. "Helmet protected me. Still took a nasty knock. Must be that damned traitor--"

A new frequency crackles to life over the communicators. "Hon hon hon," chuckles a familiar voice. "Are you receiving me, little flies? Welcome to my web ..."

Widowmaker is a top level Talon field operative
Capture or death would be a serious blow. Depending on what the goal of their operation is, we could re-purpose the mission.

She's too professional for distractions.
We're best off ignoring her. Focus on the job. Toblerone may have a vague idea of where the shot came from. Tracer would be the best operative to engage

>>
>>1266106
We have 2 actions going on, so we roll 2d10, the first corresponding to the first and the second dice to the second. Higher roles are better. For an action, things happen. Each of the three rolls can be how the agent acts to each event, or how well they react in general. If three people shoot us, then a roll of 8,7,1 means we get shot once, by the last guy, but if one giant guy shoots us, the same rolls would mean we would get away unscathed, maybe with a little flair. but Im not Ravenking

Reinhardt presses forward, his refreshed force barrier extended, McCree behind him. But they're overextending without their allies. They take fire from the squad ahead of them, from the balcony of the theater to their right, and the entrance to the base of the clock tower on their left. Flanked on both sides, they each take a hit from Talon's burst-fire rifles before clearing out the squad by the statue and taking cover behind the monument's base.

You look over at Genji's view as he dashes down the street to the pub, using his cyber-agility to its full potential as he dodges and weaves. Widowmaker misses several times, but she still lands one good shot. Genji's vitals glow red.

"You all right, Genji?"

"Never better," he hisses back. He scales the wall with ease. Widowmaker is already retreating. She turns and fires her rifle in automatic fire mode, but Genji's wired reflexes let him unsheath his wakizashi with lighning speed and deflect the bullets straight back at her. She cries out in pain. Genji pursues swiftly, striking at her with the short sword, but she uses her grappling hook to pull herself out of his reach.

McCree's viewpoint is looking back and forth, trying to figure out which Talon squad to deal with -- the one in the theater, or inside the clock tower. As he looks past the base of the monument, you notice some kind of device attached to it.

"McCree, what's that thing the Talon guy put on the statue?"

The view swivels over to the device. "What in tarnation is that?" asks McCree. "Looks kinda like a--"

"Get back, Jesse!" shouts Reinhardt, shoving his friend away and stepping in front of him--

The device explodes. Flames fill Reinhardt's camera, then the feed dies. The screen fills with snow.

"Reinhardt!" you shout, bolting up from your seat.

McCree's camera is just dust and ash for a moment, the gunslinger coughing into his pancho. When the smoke clears, you see Reinhardt, alive but severely wounded, his armor badly damaged.

You check his vitals. The Crusader armor protected him against some of the blast, but not as much as you'd like.

Trying to shake off your fear, you say into the comms, "B-be advised the Talon squads are carrying some kind of explosives."

"Roger." You hear the zap-zap-zap of Tracer's pistols. "Took care of that squad in the Clock Tower for ya," she says. "Some kind of garage in here. They were doin' something with a weird-looking vehicle in here. Dunno how to describe it."

Tracer's camera moves as she circles around the hovering vehicle in the garage. "What in bloody heck is this thing?"

You haven't the faintest idea yourself. You key in Winston's laboratory. "Winston, are you seeing this? Any thoughts on what the hell is it?"

"Well, there's only so much I can tell from such a cursory examination--"

"Just give me your best guess, big guy."

Winston harrumphs. "It could be some sort of electromagnetic pulse device. A very powerful one."

"Goddamn," you say. "They were going to blow this in the Omnium." You think of those thousands of Omnics underneath the factory, packed into those dense habitats. The idea of the EMP going off there, shredding their circuits, shutting them down for good -- horrifying.

This goes beyond Talon's normal recidivist tendencies. This is an act of terrorism. Maybe even genocide.

While dealing with that, you see Reinhardt and McCree retreat around the statue, taking cover from the Talon operatives firing at them from the theater balcony. Mercy hurries over from the bookstore. The range on her healing beam is long enough that she can stay behind the hotel and heal her allies without exposing herself to enemy fire. "I've got you!"

Torbjorn arrives close behind her, his wounds patched up for now -- he peeks around the hotel corner and lays down a barrage of suppressing fire from his rivet gun.

You flip over to Genji's view, watching him pursue the fleeing Widowmaker with the alacrity only a cyborg ninja possesses. "Squash that spider, Genji!" you shout, cheering him on.

You watch from Genji's perspective as he passes the Omnium entrance and rounds the corner ...

"Well now," says an unfamiliar voice. "Ain't this a fine how d'you do?"

"Willya look at this one, Roadie?" says the speaker in a heavy Australian accent. He's wiry, with a shock of blonde hair. A primitive prosthetic leg and arm. Nearly naked except for patchwork shorts and a single boot. Dirt, singes, and scorch marks everywhere. Is his hair on fire? "Unbelievable! A real live cyborg ninjer! I thought they only existed in vidya games."

This man is tall, but not compared to his companion he's now elbowing in the gut. The very, very massive gut. An man of ominous size and terrifying presence, his face hidden behind a gas mask stylized as a pig snout.

Widowmaker stands behind them, flanked by two Talon operatives, a smug smirk on her face.

Junkrat and Roadhog. The notorious Junker thieves and maniacs. You've seen these two on wanted posters for years. Now they're here, in front of Genji--

-- who's alone. You curse yourself. Why did you think it was a good idea to send him off by himself?

Because you might have caught Widowmaker by herself, part of you reminds the rest. A high-ranking Talon operative would have helped--

That doesn't matter right now! "Genji, get out of there!"

Roadhog grunts, rears back, and hurls his infamous hooked chain at Genji--

Kting! The hook flies off course. Moonlight glints off an arrow in the ground, lodged between two paving stones.

Another arrow, this one glowing with a blue radiance, flies out from the darkness of the rooftops. It bursts as it hits the ground, scattering energized shards in all directions that bounce and ricochet. The Junkers and Talon agents are forced back for a moment.

Hanzo's stern voice comes over the communicator. "I have your back, brother."

Genji hastily retreats back to the Omnium entrance. "Thank you, Hanzo. Next bottle of sake is on me."

To deal with this new threat, you tell the main battle group of your team, back at the Hotel:

Reinhardt covers McCree's advance up to the doors of the Meridian theater, Mercy close behind them, healing them up as they go.

Torbjorn stays behind to rebuild his turret by the arch, facing down the street.

You watch McCree's screen as he goes inside and hustles up the stairs to the second floor of the theater. The three Talon operatives are ready for him, their guns trained on the stairway, but that just makes them easy prey for a flashbang grenade. They stagger back, stunned, and McCree easily dispatches them with one shot each. "Bullseye," he says, then looks around the second floor. "Hey, there's another one of them bombs up here."

"Stay away from it," you warn him. "That other one went off on proximity. They must have some kind of way of detecting our agents and have the bombs set to blow if we get too close when they're armed. Athena, can you help me get this thing disarmed?"

"Hack function activated," she says. "Tasking a drone."

A nearby utility drone suddenly swerves away from its path and trundles up the stairs into the theater.

"Okay, Athena's got the bomb taken care of," you tell the team. "Get out of there and go help Genji."

The Junkers are following one squad of Talon operatives into the street in front of the Fox and Bear Pub. The other squad is moving around to the Omnium entrance. Widowmaker seems to have disappeared -- you lost track of her with everything going on.

Genji is crouched on the second-floor balcony behind the pub. His breathing is labored. You check his vitals. He's still in pain from the shot he took from Widowmaker. You look at his camera as he glances down at his wound, touches it. His fingers come away dark with blood.

"What should I do, Command?" he asks you.

Tracer and Genji meet up in the alleys behind the pub.

"Hiya!" says Tracer, waving.

"Yo," says Genji.

Reinhardt stands firm at the arch, his force barrier blocking the path entirely. "Come and face me!" he shouts down the street at the Talon operatives rounding the corner. They open fire, but they don't have the firepower to break through Reinhardt's shield.

The massive Roadhog waddles out and throws his hook, hoping to catch someone off-guard, but the shield recognizes it as a hostile attack and deflects it. Torbjorn's turret fires at him, but it barely seems to do any damage against that hulk of flesh.

"Step aside, old chum," you hear Junkrat saying. "Looks like something needs blowing up!"

Junkrat begins to fire his grenade launcher, giggling with manic glee. The spherical explosives arc through the air and detonate against Reinhardt's shield. The force field quickly begins to crack. "My shield can't handle this!" warns the Crusader. "Retreat!"

The group of four starts to back away, but they're startled by the sudden shattering of Torbjorn's turret. Another moment later, Mercy cries out as a bullet streaks through the air and strikes her in the shoulder. You rapidly flip through your camera views, finally spotting the Talon sniper. "Widow's above and to your left, team! Get out of there!"

Mercy, Torbjorn, and a shieldless Reinhardt retreat into the Alderworth Hotel, while McCree ends up crouching in the narrow shelter behind the bookstore.

"Well, old friend," says Torbjorn. "This is a right mess we've found ourselves in and no mistake."

"Do not blame the boy," says Reinhardt. "We clearly have yet to shake off the rust of years."

"I don't," says Torbjorn. "Isn't his fault we ran into those two psychopaths, anyway."

Before the Talon operatives and Junkers can advance, Tracer and Genji are suddenly in their midst. Tracer fires, blinks, and fires again, leaving bright azure blurs as she weaves back and forth. Genji leaps and flips through the air, as impossible to strike as the wind itself. Each time he reaches the apex of his jump, a flurry of three shurikens flies out and strikes another operative.

Tracer and Genji finish cleaning up the operatives. They stand there, breathing heavily. Over Tracer's camera, you watch Junkrat tsk and shake his head as he reloads his grenade launcher.

"They killed our goons, Roadie. I liked having goons. Should we kill them for it, d'ya think?"

Roadhog grunts and readies his hook.

"You always know just what to say, mate." Junkrat finishes loading his weapon.

"Now just hold on a minute," says McCree, striding forward. "I might need to have a word or two with you on that subject. Y'see, I know it's midnight here, but you know what I say? It's always high noon somewhere in the world."

McCree's biometric readouts spike as the smartlink cyberware in his eye receives an energy surge from his Ultimate charger.

Junkrat and Roadhog look at each other. Roadhog grunts.

"You're right, mate. Retreat!" The two Junkers hightail it out of there.

McCree sighs. His bio readouts settle back to normal as his ultimate charge bleeds off. "I miss the West, sometimes. People would actually stick around for good old-fashioned draw."

2-3-9 to chase Widow, 3-4-3 to chase the operatives. Writing.
>>
>>1266568

As your offense agents chase after her, Widowmaker fires a burst from her rifle, then shoots out her grappling hook and pulls away into the rooftops. Only Genji is able to follow her up there. He races after her, one assassin chasing another across the steeply angled gables of the townhouse rooftops, the glittering lights of the corporate monoliths in the city beyond them.

You watch the pursuit through Genji's camera for a moment before switching to Mercy's screen to see her following Reinhardt. She still has her healing beam trained on him, although you notice that her own biological readouts are slowly improving. How does that work, anyway? Does using the staff have some kind of feedback mechanism that heals her as well? You'll have to ask her about it when she gets back. Assuming she doesn't explode when that squad in the Omnium sets off their bomb--

You vision is pulled back to Genji's view as, just as he's almost close enough to grab Widowmaker, he stumbles, and she pulls away. She leaps off the edge of the roof, arcing in a graceful dive, then disappearing in a dizzying drop -- only to rise again, kneeling on top of a Talon dropship as it lifts into the air. She stands up and looks down at Genji with a cold smile.

"Amelie!" he calls out. "It's not too late for you! Come back to us!"

Widowmaker only responds by activating her visor, lifting her rifle. and firing at Genji. He dodges at the last moment with his cybernetic reflexes. The camera shatters, and Genji's feed goes dead.

"Genji, you okay?" you ask.

"Yes. My apologies, Seeker. I forgot about the camera."

"No problem, pal," you say.
>>
>>1266726

You look over at Reinhardt's feed to see his shield raised. Beyond it, the interior of the Omnium, an explosive device, and three Talon operatives with their weapons raised. One of them is shouting. "--too late! Soon we'll control everything. Talon will rise!"

"Ye damn fools," you hear Torbjorn saying, exasperated. "Can't ye see that what yer doin' is crazy? Ach, I guess not. Hit me, Angie! I'm ready to unleash the Core!"

You watch from Mercy's screen as she engages the blue damage-boost beam on Torbjorn. He lowers his welding mask, and his forge backpack blasts into life, flames shooting from the smokestack-like pipes on his back. His rivet gun goes into overdrive, firing at twice the speed, taking out the first Talon operative, then the second, then the third--

--but the third operative, with his last breath, activates the device in a suicidal act of defiance.

The explosion rips through the interior of the Omnic factory. You see Reinhardt's shield hold, fracture, disappate. All three feeds - Reinhardt, Torbjorn, Mercy -- are replaced by snow.

"Holy shit," you hear yourself saying. "Come in, guys. Can you hear me? Rein? Torb? Doc? Talk to me, dammit!"

(Continued)
>>
>>1266732

For a moment ice grips your heart. Then ...

You hear Torbjorn coughing. His camera feed fizzles back to life. "We're okay, lad. Just a bit shook up, is all. Reinhardt's shield took enough of the blast. Did our cameras go out there? Think the shockwave might've knocked 'em around a little."

"Everyone's okay?" you ask. "Sound off, guys."

"Mercy here. I'm all right. Thank you for shielding us, Reinhardt."

"It was my pleasure, madam."

"Tracer here. Me and McCree are orright."

"Don't suppose ya caught that pesky little spider, Genji?"

"I'm afraid not. Perhaps next time."

You flop back into your chair with a sigh of relief. Everyone's all right, even if they got a little banged up along the way. More than a little, for some of them. Mercy might be busy in the medbay over the next few days.

"What about the Omnium?" you ask.

"It's damaged," says Torbjorn, "but not so bad it won't hold together. The Underground is safe, at least."

"Okay. So ... mission accomplished?" you say, half a question.

Athena's logo glows in the corner of your command screen. "Mission accomplished," she says. "The Orca will be ready for you, team. We await your return."

We probably don't need to go so far as to do that to Seeker, but I do plan on splitting his attention between field agent action and strategic commander missions like this one.

You have to tell the team to leave the electromagnetic pulse device behind. The authorities have already cordoned off the area, and Torbjorn and Athena are both unable figure out how to activate it in the narrow window of time before police forces closed in.

The team has to retreat back to the abandoned subway station and its underground route back to the Orca, empty-handed outside of the satisfaction of lives saved and a mission accomplished.

At the team makes it exit, you look at the camera drones' view of the hotel square, and the new monument of Mondatta, a tribute to his dream of harmony. The Talon explosive took out a good section of the base, and without the support, the statue has fallen off balance and started to tilt.

You watch as the statue of Mondatta slowly leans further and further, until finally it unbalances entirely and falls. It crashes to the ground, smashing into pieces.

You hope that the late Mondatta's dream of peace between human and omnic won't prove to be just as shattered.

When the Orca arrives back at the Watchpoint about two hours later, you are ...

You're still in the communications room, going over the recorded footage of the mission, both from the drone cameras and the agents' point-of-view feeds, again and again.

So far you haven't figured out anything you didn't already know. Talon kept squads hidden in a local church and shop basement, as well as the EMP device in a local garage. Just before midnight, the operatives came out of hiding, three-man squads rushing to plant those bombs on clearly predetermined locations. Perhaps the idea was for the smaller bombs to cause distractions while the primary payload was delivered to the Omnium to zap all those poor Omnics underneath.

The person who came up with this plan for Talon wasn't exactly a strategic genius, you think as you watch the Talon squads split up for the twentieth time -- thirtieth, actually, according to Athena's counter. "More bombs" isn't exactly the subtlest approach. Maybe Junkrat came up with it himself? He's known for his over-excitement when it comes to the quantity and size of explosions. Whoever it was, they seem to favor a brute-force approach.

You watch it for the thirty-first time.

Voomp! Tracer blinks into the room. "Heya pal," she says. "Thought you'd be meetin' us in the hangar. Still cooped up in here? You realize the mission's been over for two hours, right?"

"Sorry, Tracer, I got a little caught up in this," you say, gesturing at the recordings on your screens. "I'm not sure what I'm going to find. Maybe some clue as to how Talon pulled this off? I don't know."

"Hmm." Tracer folds her arms on the back of your chair and leans forward, looking over your head at the screen. "Jack used to do this too, y'know? Even if he wasn't personally on a mission, he'd stay keyed up afterwards and watch the recordings for hours, trying to find some kind of advantage. A new tactic for the team, a new weakness of the bad guys -- anything that might give his troops an edge. Found anything yet?"

"Not really," you admit. You glance backwards at the blue glow of the chronal accelerator, a little close to your head for comfort for a device of arcane time-altering technology. "That thing isn't going to give me time-cancer, is it?"

Tracer chuckles. "Nah, mate. Winston tells me it's safe."

"Whatever happens, I'm just glad we stopped Talon," you say. "If I'm right, their plan was to detonate that EMP in the Omnium. Not only would that have stopped the production of new Omnics for who knows how long, but it probably would've affected half the laborers in the Underground. We would be looking at Omnic casualties in the thousands. And we prevented that, so I call that a victory for Overwatch." You switch back to a snapshot of the end of the mission, looking at the destroyed monument to Mondatta. "Too bad about the statue, though."

Tracer scowls. "They can't just kill the bot, they had to blow up his bloody memorial too. Unbelievable."

"It looks like Talon wants to ramp up tension between the pro- and anti-Omnic factions," you say. "I checked out the vidnews for a few minutes and things are already getting intense. We may have saved those Omnics' lives, but Talon might still have accomplished their long-term goal."

"Don't worry about it for now, luv. Those bots are still alive, and that's what's important."

"Thanks. Hey, you did pretty good out there, Tracer. The team might've got flanked from the alleys if you hadn't cleaned up those Talon operatives. Good work."

"Hehe, thanks, Seeker. You did all right yourself. Having someone play mission control and coordinate the team was pretty handy. You did pretty good as commander -- for your first time, at least." She winks at you and ruffles your hair playfully. "Thanks for your help out there. I'm off to catch some sack time. Seeya tomorrow!"

Voomp! Tracer blinks away. You watch the blue blur vanish in the direction of the crew quarters.

You arrange to meet the mission squad in the briefing room. Convenient that it's just across the road from Mercy's medbay, since everyone except for Tracer ended up with mild to moderate injuries on the mission. She was up late last night giving everyone their preliminary injury treatments, and this morning is busy giving everyone the morning's biotic regimen. After she's finished, they head over and meet you in the briefing room.

Torbjorn plops himself down in one of the seats. "Well, lad? Here to chew us out over our sloppy performance?"

"I thought we did quite all right," says Mercy, "considering some of us have been out of action for years. We've all kept up with physical training, certainly, but that only does so much when one goes back into the field."

"Ja, we are rusty," agrees Reinhardt. "These old bones can still swing a hammer, but not like they used to."

"Don't worry, guys," you tell them. "I didn't call you here for a scolding. This is just a group meeting to break down the mission and let everyone get their thoughts out in the open. I think trust is important for the team. So if anyone has anything to say, now's the time."

McCree cautiously raises his hand. "Can I say somethin'?"

"Sure, McCree," you say. "I mean, I just said anyone can say anything."

He chuckles. "Sorry, Gabe used to tear me a new one if I told him I weren't happy about somethin'. Mind if I use the vidya device thing here?"

Genji steps forward. "Er, why don't I do it, Jesse? I fear for any technology around you."

McCree sighs. "Ain't my fault I grew up in the country, all right?"

(Continued)

Just a thought, but why haven't we tried communicating with Bastion in morse code yet? It seems ideal for someone who can only communicate in beeps. Perhaps two quick beeps rather than one slow one if he only has the one beep tone.

It also shouldn't be too hard for someone to rig up a morse- to- speech converter for quick translations.
>>
>>1269815

The two discuss the point in time McCree wants, and they eventually stop it about halfway through the incident in question. It's just after Widowmaker revealed herself by taking a shot at Torbjorn. Following your orders, Mercy split off to aid Torbjorn, while Reinhardt and McCree advanced forward to the Mondatta statue.

McCree points at the screen with his cigar. "I think me and Reinhardt overextended a little when we advanced up ta here. We got flanked on either side and took a couple hits. Too many angles for the force shield ta cover us from all three groups of shooters."

You look at what he's talking about. You think he might be right. Telling Reinhardt and McCree to advance into a position where they'd be flanked on both sides maybe wasn't the soundest strategic decision. You say to yourself that you need to be willing to accept criticism. If blame starts getting throwing around, the whole team could split apart. "I think you're right, McCree. That wasn't a great call on my part. I'm sorry."

"Hey, I don't mean to play the blame game here, pardner," he says. "Just thinkin' of stuff we could do better next time."

"All right, thanks." You look around at the other five agents. "On a mission, if you think someone's making the wrong call, including me -- especially me, actually ..."

Tracer says, "Considerin' what happened with Gabe and Jack, though -- is that really for the best? I mean, they couldn't agree on anything after a certain point. Tore the team apart arguin', even before Switzerland and all."

Torbjorn mutters, "Could barely stand to look at each other by the end."

Mercy says firmly, "We'll just have to do better. Seeker is right. We need to be stronger as a unit, and an honest assessment of our weaknesses is part of that. We'll need to try and be as forthright with each other as possible without hurting anyone."

You look around at the six agents in the room. "Remember that we're not just a random collection of misfits, or a crew of vigilantes. We're all here because we want to do something right in the world. There'll be challenges, arguments, even failures. Some of us will get hurt. But I know we can do this. It'll take hard work from all of us, but we can become stronger. Both as individuals and as a team. And then we'll be prepared to take on anything that threatens the innocent people of the world.
