Welcome to Phase Quest! You live in New Autumn City, a place of hope, of freedom, and a promise of a better future- just not for you. You are a super, imprisoned on this island to keep the “mundanes” of the outside world safe. Essentially, you are a prisoner citizen of a country island called “Avarice Island” in the middle of the Pacific about half the size of Alaska. It's not at all bad, here; there are schools, parks, government, essentially everything needed for a nation. The only difference is that everyone here has a super power. The year is currently 2047.
Most people have weak powers, such as minor super strength or the ability to stretch their arm a few inches, things that make them better than the average human. These "Little League" supers make up about 85% of the New Autumn population. Then comes Minor League, Major League, and World Series level Supers. You will be playing as a Minor League Super, and as you fight and succeed you will grow stronger. You are a student at Avarice Academy.
Common Knowledge:
There are hundreds of small supers gangs throughout the city. Some of them own districts as their turf, some just like to occasionally cause trouble. Luckily for the people of New Autumn, occasionally vigilantes rise up to fight; along with the feared Legion Task Force of Quantum. Vigilantism is illegal here; this isn’t the shiny metropolis full of caped crusaders you seen in comic books. If a vigilante is caught by Quantum, they are killed. Strangely, they don’t seem to be as interested in gang violence, especially when the gangs fight each other. Right now at the start of your story, it is likely that your character isn’t familiar with these gangs, except for Firewall.

>>
"Quantum" is the corporation that acts as the standing government of New Autumn City and Avarice Island as a whole. Through them they export and import trade with other nations, among other things such as running the police force of the city. However, they have been known to partake in shady business practices, and their president, Mr. Richard Adder, is rarely seen.
"Firewall" is the biggest gang in the city, big enough to be able to put up a fight against Quantum. They are essentially the mafia/Triad/Yakuza. They own part of the city, and while they fuck shit up occasionally, they have been known to be honorable and true to their word. Not much is known about their system or hierarchy.

“The Hunter Order” is an organization very similar to monasteries in Tibet. In fact, that’s where their base is located. Hunters are trained as anti-super soldiers, using gadgets and skill to take down their superpowered opponents. They are the ones that enforce the anti-super laws in the world, they are the ones that take supers into New Autumn City, and they are the ones that guard the perimeter. Their goal is not to “defeat” or “destroy” supers, but to separate them from the general human population and maintain peace.

“UNAC”, or the United Nations Arms Coalition, is essentially the world’s military. In the 2020s the United Nations took groups of military from every nation that was a member, and created UNAC. UNAC is the group that ensures that Avarice Island is secure and that all unregistered supers are brought there. They work with the Hunter Order.

How do we have Superpowers?

It all started back in 1984, when a rift in time and space was discovered somewhere in the Pacific Ocean. After many years of publicity, study, and experimentation, the rift opened. Radiation poured out, along with a strange artifact called "The Obelisk". This "Super Radiation" spread through the West Coast of the United States and the east coast of Asia like the plague, and after many years of chaos, supers became a thing, the Hunter Organization became a thing, superpowers spread all over the world, and supers were caught and brought to a newly created New Autumn City.
And hey! Lots of time passed! It's 2047 now!
2/3
>>
"Okay but I meant like how do we have superpowers? Like, what's the biology behind it?"
Okay, nerd. Basically, when the body is introduced to Super Radiation or the blood of a Super or like having sex with a Super or essentially most STD/Disease related ways, you gain Fever.
Fever is a bodily fluid produced by Supers, it is the essence of your power, and provides you with energy to use said power. The fluid runs through your veins and arteries along with your blood, and a fifth chamber (more akin to a tumor) is added to your heart that pumps Fever. The problem with Fever is that if it is overworked, it will overproduce and will turn you into a crazy, powerful mutant without any human thought. A drug called "Cryo" is sold by Quantum to prevent mutation, and it allows you to fight longer and harder. However, the more cryo you take without breaks, the more resistant you become to it. There is also a drug called "Shiver" also sold by Quantum (albeit it being WAY more expensive) that allows you to suppress your powers and even get rid of them if used long enough. Supers ashamed of being the way they are use that and pretend to be Mundane, and some Supers are allowed to live in the outside world by taking that drug consistently.

This is my first quest, let me know how I can improve.
Feel free to draw stuff! I am not an artist myself.
I think that should about cover it? I'm certain there is more, and please ask a bunch of questions so I can clear stuff up.
Time to pick your character!
>A. Kathryn Myerson, a brunette girl that is a quarter Japanese, and proud of her heritage due to the atrocities Japan went through in the past decade. She is a junior at Avarice Academy, and has the power of telekinesis along with some basic sword training. She is secretly a vigilante that goes by the name of “Bloodline”. She is rather serious and has a short fuse, but she ha training.
>B. Tyler Fortune, a boy with a stylish blue ascot and blonde hair. He is a senior at Avarice Academy, and has a few powers. He has a subspace pocket where he can store an indeterminate amount of things that fit in the hole, he has the power of luck, and he can cast spheres of chaos(I have a list of 100 effects, I roll a d100 and whatever effect is chosen occurs in the radius of the sphere. Will post if he is picked.) Tyler is on the school baseball team, but has no combat experience.

Kathryn’s Inventory
One fever level detection watch
A violin case containing a violin and a katana in a secret compartment

>B. Tyler Fortune

You feel everything go out of focus. An off white haze clouds your vision and you feel a droplet of drool begin to pool on the side of your mouth. Your lips curl into a weak smile as you listen to the distant sound of the ocean, the tide washing in… and out… in… and out….

“Tyler Fortune.”
You jolt awake to see your professor standing in front of your desk, her hands on her hips. Other students around you are snickering, but instead of feeling embarrassed you find yourself grinning alongside them.

“Professor Morine,” you reply.

She sighs, but smiles kindly and looks at you with concern. She glances at the clock and your gaze follows; just a couple minutes until 3.

“Class, you’re dismissed.”

The once quiet classroom erupts into the sound of scraping chairs, blossoming conversation, and laughter. Students begin pouring out of the room; one excitedly jumps 7 feet in the air to touch the ceiling. You can’t help but feel that energy, too. This is the last week of the year. Summer is drawing near. You finish shoving your notebook and various papers into your bag, and then stand to leave. As you approach the door, however, you hear Morine speak up from her desk.

“Tyler. You’re failing this class.”

You freeze, and turn to face your professor.

“What? Did you say? I-what?” You manage to sputter.

She looks up from her paper work and adjusts her glasses.

“You haven’t been doing your homework. You get Cs on the exams, yes, but I explained at the beginning of the semester that the homework could make or break your grade.”

You stand and stare, dumbfounded. You are majoring in Super Biology, and failing this class will mean another year of school here. A year you can’t afford. You glance out the window toward the field. The sharp metal pang of a baseball hitting a bat echoes quietly into the classroom.

“Well… what can I do about it? Anything?” you ask.

“Go home and complete the assignments I assigned this month. That might bring you up to a C. I expect them by the end of the week,” she replies.

You stand there for a moment, then take a couple steps backward.

What a load of bullshit.

You sigh and begin to leave the room, passive-aggressively snatching up your baseball bag as you go. As you exit into the hall, you feel a hand on your shoulder. Kathryn spins you around, a broad smile on her face.

“Tyler! That was your last class, right? Do you want to come to kendo with me? I know I said I’d bring you last week, but now is probably better… Hey, you alright?”

>A. “Yeah, I’m alright. Which way is kendo?”

> Writing A because it was a tie and almost picked twice.

You bite your lip, debating whether or not you should start being a good student for the first time in your life. You take a backward glance at the classroom you just left, and narrow your eyebrows in frustration. Fuck it. You have the whole week to do your work. It probably wouldn’t even be that hard.

“Yeah, yeah, I’m fine. Lead the way, Kath.”

Kathryn’s concerned frown switches back into a smile, and she grabs you by the arm, excitedly guiding you down the hall. After a minute of avoiding whiplash, you arrive. Kathryn pushes open the wooden door to reveal a room that looks like a classroom-sized version of the school gym. Mats line the far wall, where two students dressed in full kendo armor wield wooden swords and trade blows. The combatant on the left seems to be having trouble as he barely parries the onslaught of slashes and thrusts that his opponent is dealing him. Finally he loses his balance, and is struck on his helmet. The four students watching begin to applaud, and Kathryn joins in. You awkwardly begin to clap too, but everyone stops just as you begin.

The fight’s loser pulls off his helmet. He’s Mexican with short black hair, and looks extremely frustrated. You’ve seen him before; maybe he’s in your stats class? The winner pulls off her helmet too, and you find yourself in awe as golden blonde hair spills out and the most beautiful girl you’ve ever seen is revealed.

“That was such shit, Jeanette. I would have had you if you didn’t do your stupid thrust thing,” the loser growls.

She chuckles, and in a thick French accent she responds, “I zink you just need more practiz,”

Only you laugh, and everyone turns to look at you. You feel your cheeks begin to warm up.

“It was funny,” You say. It wasn’t.

To your relief, however, the girl smiles and approaches you. She raises her hand and you take it, shaking it firmly.

“I’m Jeanette,” she says.

“Tyler,” You reply.

After staring at each other for a moment, a dumb grin on your face, Kathryn steps in between you two.

“So Jeanette, about our duel.”

>A. “Actually, I’ll challenge Jeanette to a duel. You can fight the winner.”

> B. Watch Kathryn and Jeanette fight.

You take a step back and sit next to the other kendo club members as Kathryn and Jeanette step onto the mat. Kathryn straps on her armor, and Jeanette puts her helmet back on. The two ready their swords as they prepare to fight. You notice that Kathryn has taken a peculiar stance; she stands with her feet wide apart and her sword raised behind her and above her head. Feeling guilty about not doing homework earlier and realizing that this is a great opportunity to learn, you dig into your backpack and pull out a notebook and pen.

“You know, you still ‘aven’t beaten me with zat stance,” Jeanette muses. Kathryn simply stares.

“According to Kathryn’s rules, one hit and you’re out. 3, 2, 1, go!” the fighter from earlier shouts. He sits back down as Kathryn and Jeanette begin circling each other.

“Hey, I’m Juan,” He says after a moment, shooting you a sideways glance. “You’re in my statistics class, right? I didn’t know you were interested in sword play.”

“Uh huh.” You reply, not taking your eyes off the fighters.

“I’m Madilyn,” the girl next to you says with a smile.

“Tony.”

“Alex.”

The club begins introducing themselves to you, and you feel a twinge of annoyance. You just want to watch the fight. Suddenly Kathryn lunges forward. Jeanette meets her sword with her own, and the two block alternating attacks before breaking away. You make a note of this.

“Vell, you’re getting better. Almost got me zhere,” Jeanette says. Kathryn simply growls and goes in for another attack, but is easily parried. Jeanette follows suit, but makes no progress.

“They’re both pretty evenly matched, right? How come Kathryn has never beat Jeanette before?” you ask, turning slightly to Juan. He simply chuckles and says, “You’ll see.”
>>
>>1265664

To your surprise, Jeanette’s stance begins to change. She lifts her sword above her head and slowly widens her stance.... You freeze. She is copying Kathryn’s stance exactly. Kathryn seems to have noticed this, and yells out in frustration. She goes for another lunge at Jeanette, but Jeanette comes down with her own sword, slipping past Kathryn’s defenses and hitting her in the shoulder. Of course. Jeanette has copy-cat powers. She can use her opponent's moves, as well as her own. You aggressively continue to write notes.

“That’s it!” Juan shouts. Kathryn tears off her helmet, dropping it to the ground. She begrudgingly shakes Jeanette’s hand, and steps off the mat. Kathryn approaches you, and sits as someone else stands to challenge Jeanette.

“Why didn’t you use your power?” You ask. You took great notes, but couldn’t help but wonder why Kathryn didn’t fight fire with fire. She laughs spitefully.

“And what, float a couple inches above the mat? Use my sword hands free? My power doesn’t help much in this case, Tyler,” She grumbles.

“Alright,” you respond.

You hear a quiet ding and you feel your pocket rumble. You pull out your phone and see that you got a text from your friend on the team, Mark.

‘Hey, we’re going to that bazaar thing downtown. U coming?’ it says.

>A. Text him back that you’re on your way.

>C then B.

You stare at your phone for a second, then sigh and text Mark that you have homework.

‘Wut?? Laaaaaame.’ is the response you get. You roll your eyes. That’s easy for Mark to say, he has fantastic grades and a great work ethic. You don’t. Maybe it’s time to change that.

You look up to see Tony knocked down as Jeanette wins. Suddenly, you feel a surge of confidence in yourself, and you stand up.

“I call next,” You announce. The others look at you in surprise, and Kathryn looks extremely concerned.

“Tyler, you-”

“Am I sure? Yes. No. Let’s do it,” You say. You energetically jump up and walk toward the mat where Jeanette is waiting. You pick up a wooden sword, analyzing its grip. After lifting it and swinging it, you smile. It feels really similar to your aluminum baseball bat, weight-wise. Jeanette clears her throat, and gestures to a set of armor lying next to the mat.

“Eef you don’t vear armor, you might get hurt, big guy,” she muses. You blush and shrug, playing it cool, but after a moment of struggling you realize that putting on kendo armor is harder than it looks. Jeanette giggles and approaches you, pulling the straps on the armor perhaps a bit harder than necessary.

“Er, thanks,” You mutter.

“Everyone ready?” Juan asks. Both you and Jeanette nod, and you lift your sword into a stance similar to how you saw Jeanette wielding hers last round.

“3, 2, 1, go!” Juan announces. To your terror, Jeanette immediately rushes you. Somehow you manage to block it, but before you can celebrate you stumble backward off the mat. Jeanette shoots you a wink, and walks back to her side.

“That’s the round.” Juan says, not impressed.

You pull off your helmet, but you don’t feel too bad. You blocked her attack, after all. You grin to yourself. Maybe you should come to kendo more often… then you realize that this is the last meeting before the break. The only way you could come back were if you did another year of school…

You shiver. Suddenly, the week of time to do homework felt a lot shorter. Once you manage to get the rest of the armor off, you head toward the door.

“Bye guys, it was fun,” You say, then push open the doors before you get a response.

The hall is a lot emptier than it was earlier. You walk out the main doors onto the path toward your campus, and you feel more miserable than ever; birds are chirping, the sun is shining, and you can hear the distant thump of music from downtown. Must be that bazaar Mark was talking about.

Exaggeratedly hanging your head, you groan loudly as you reach the entrance to your dorm. You take a forlorn glance backward, and furrow your brow as you think.

>A. Maybe taking a break and meeting up with your friends is what you need…

> B. You’re doing your goddamn homework.

You sigh and swipe your ID card, entering the dormitory. There will be plenty of time to enjoy the outside during summer… and when you pass your classes. You climb the steps toward the top floor where your room is, and pass a group of laughing students who don’t seem to have a care in the world. Their happiness is irritating.

You shut your dorm room door behind you, and slide down to the ground. Your roommate is out doing stuff, no doubt. After a moment of self-pity, you gather yourself and sit at your desk, turning on the lamp. You pick up your backpack and pour its contents out. Eventually your laptop is opened, your lecture notes are spread out in front of you, and you are ready to work.

This sucks.

~~~~~
Three hours later, you feel a bittersweet combination of soul-crushed and fantastic. You have made a ton of progress, much to your own surprise. At this rate, you’ll have all of your stuff done by tomorrow. In fact, it might be a better idea to take a break. You yawn and stretch your arms, when the glow of your cellphone screen catches your attention. It’s Mohammed, your party connection.
You snatch up your cell and hit the home button, and the holographic screen expands in front of you.
‘Hey man, super exclusive party at Julie Scarlet’s place. Be there, seriously.’
Holy shit.
Julie Scarlet is only the hottest chick at school. Well, maybe after Jeanette. You gulp, and glance at your homework. Whatever, you made a TON of progress. If you were to keep going, it’d probably only make it worse, you say to yourself.
> B. Knock out the rest of the homework.
You sigh, and shut off your phone without responding. It’s time to grow the fuck up. Who cares about a party when there’s a chance you might go thousands more into debt? Still, you have been cooped up at your desk for a few hours. You stand and stretch, then reach down to open your mini-fridge, pulling out a soda. Back to business.
~~~~

“Tylerrrrrr…”

You groan and roll over, but can’t as you vaguely realize something is strapped to your chest.

“Tyler.”

You feel your eyelids flutter as your body vibrates and bumps.

“Wake up, buddy!”

Your eyes open and you shoot upright, looking around.

“Homework! My… work… wha…?” You say, utterly confused. As your vision focuses, you realize that you’re in the backseat of a car, sandwiched between Mohammed and Mark. Your friend TK is driving, and you don’t know the woman in the passenger seat. She’s blonde with large hoop earrings and a red dress. Mark laughs at your (probably stupid) expression. He’s a pasty white russian, but so skinny that people always seem surprised when they learn that he has super strength.

“You ver passed out ven ve found you,” he chuckles in his thick Russian accent.

“And… my homework?” You ask in dismay.

Mohammed raises an eyebrow, and lets out an unsure laugh.

“Man, when did you start caring so much about your grades? I don’t know. You looked like you had just fallen asleep, we carried you down to the car. I didn’t really look at your essay,” he explains.

You groan. That information tells you nothing. It’s possible that you completed all of your work, but you might have fallen asleep right away. You’re not sure. The only thing you’re sure of is that the night sky is black now, and the sun was setting last time you looked out the window. You check your phone. 10:38.

“I’m guessing you guys aren’t taking me home, right?” You ask, a twinge of annoyance in your voice. The car erupts into laughter.

“No way, man. This party is gonna be lit,” Mohammed responds. Figures. You cross your arms, and decide to wait it out.
>>
>>1266044

A few minutes later, the car pulls to the side of the road. Vehicles line the curbs on both sides of the street for as far as Tyler can see. Your “friends” begin to pile out of the car, and you follow with a huff.

“Yo, you still have those beers in your subspace pocket, right?” TK whispers to you as you begin to walk down the street.

“Well, yeah. And why are you whispering? We can drink legally, dude. We’ve been able to for years,” you reply.

TK shakes his head, and gestures up ahead. Your eyes follow to where he’s pointing, and you are surprised to see several Quantum police cars down the road.

“It’s super weird. There’s Quantum guys there, and they aren’t allowing alcohol,” TK says. Before you can respond, the woman from the car catches up with you.

“Julie Scarlet’s dad works with Quantum, and he’s super protective. Honestly, I’m amazed that he’s even allowing this party in the first place,” she explains, then outstretches her hand. “I’m Roquette, by the way.”

You take her handshake, but grin.

“Roquette?”

“Yeah, yeah. Har har. My dad was an astrologist. Weird guy,” she replies.
“I bet,” you say.

Your group turns the corner, and a beautiful mansion comes into view. It occurs to you that you are in a really nice part of the city, but you have never seen a house this nice. You feel a twinge of envy as you think about how Julie probably doesn’t have to worry about her debt.

A couple of men in Quantum armor and sunglasses stand by the entrance, eyeing people going in and out. They don’t seem to be doing much other than that, however.

So far so good, you aren't posting unspaced chunks of text like most first-time QM's

The only thing i'd suggest it make that opening world building text into a pastebin and put it in the OP on every new thread, rather than having that wall of text on every thread

But, maybe you already planned to do that, this is only Thread 1 and you're not even 50 posts in, don't worry, the players tend to be vocal if something horrible goes wrong

Unless romance/waifus are involved, in that case it's just salt and you can ignore it

OH, and NEVER use discord, it may seem great to foster a community, and it is, but think of the Anons reading this in the Archive they don't have a way of seeing that stuff, just get a Twitter to announce when your going live
