Your name is Chiaki Matsuda, and you are a Magical Girl.

And you've just unleashed what looks like a huge brass spider monster witch right smack dab in the First Officio Assassinorum's moonbase.

A spider monster that is currently disemboweling and tearing apart anything and everything it can get its bladed chains around, with each prey providing a sobering choir of death screams punctuated with the juicy crunch of broken bones and ripping flesh.

All just to interrupt Tomoe Mami's judgment and impending execution.

All just to buy more sand for her hourglass. For you to make sense of what she's done and what she's tried to do.

This is you fixing things. This is you taking control of the situation. The only way you know how.

And you'll make her answer you properly if it's the last thing you ever do.
>>
>>1278076

Above the deafening alarms and the wash of red emergency light, through the bloodcurdling screams and the hypnotizing cascade of pulping meat, behind the maniacal peals of laughter coming from nowhere and everywhere at once - you find yourself momentarily enchanted with the sight of the most powerful magical girls in the world being inconvenienced by a Witch. No, that's obviously an understatement - they were being massacred by it. Decimated by it. Tearing them to pieces despite their best efforts to kill it.

It's not for lack of trying, to be sure. Even without looking - and you can't, not without risking blindness from the migraine-bright flashes of light and explosion of color from the desperate attacks - you know each of them is burning enough magic, flinging enough firepower to level an entire city block with each hit. Enough to make the air inside the now-bloodied chapel smell acrid, thick with ozone and static electricity. Enough to make your teeth itch and your ears ring.

But no matter what they did - no matter what they tried - nothing seemed to hit. Nothing seemed to work. Sure, their attacks sheared off chain after bladed chain, even flash-melting them whenever they get too close - but each one destroyed was replaced with two, and every two replaced with three. When a blast of blinding light finally managed to slip through the trashing forest of barbed metal links, they simply dissolved into the yawning, gaping tear in reality that the Witch mockingly peered through. Its massive, arachnid form barely visible through the virulent, violent energies of the warp-torn hell it made its nest in.

Almost like...huh. Almost like one of those creepy, poisonous spiders you remember watching a documentary about. A funnel web spider, kind of thing. Burying itself underground, in its own tunnel, only to burst through the camouflaged opening with fangs ready to deliver the killing blow at the right time.

As much as you'd like to stick around to see that, though, you have bigger things to worry about. Namely the all-but-forgotten blonde still crucified at the altar, placid among the carnage, amidst the chaos.

+ CHIAKI-SAN, I'VE GOT HER! NOW MOVE! + Vintage's pulsed cry of panic and haste derails your track of thought, snapping you back into the chaotic mess of the present. You hurriedly scan the chapel for the mousy Equerry - only to find her just beyond the whipcracking cascade of bladed chains still hewing flesh and blood from the First Officio, her small frame shivering as it tries to support the limping, bleeding form of...Tomoe Mami...?

You blink at this. What...? Two of them?

[1/2]
>>
>>1278077

+ One of her ribbon copies! No time to explain! + Vintage insists as she hobbles towards you, clearly struggling to haul the blonde's weight. + MOVE! We need to get the both of you to the savior pods before they catch on! Luxuria can't keep this up forever, even if it looks like she's winning! +

Just behind her, another girl of the First screams bloody murder as the chains wrapped around her limbs violently rip and tear her apart, before dragging her still-bleeding, still-twitching remains into the abyss from which they've sprouted from. Her cries for help joining the ever-present chorus of the damned.

What do you do?

[]Scout on ahead. Clear their path to the savior pod.
[]Grab Mami and have Vintage guide you to the savior pod.

I don't feel quite comfortable with the notion of "clearing the path". Jesus, this was supposed to be a diversion and instead we get half the officio snuffed out. They're on our side, all things considered, no?

Chiaki struggles to carry lighter people on good days, and today is not a good day.

>>

I think that simply leaving amidst the chaos when Mami "conveniently" escapes it's going to put us in the firing line of the First... along with our Officio

Why don't we ask Pinky to take care of Mami while we're at it?
>>
>>1278078
>>
>>1278100
Correct. But I believe the plan is to send Mami to Earth and make her hide somewhere. Then, if we are clever, we remain in the moonbase and say "I tried to stop her, but she took an emergency pod", pretending to be on The First side.
But, seeming that we are stupid, I think we are going to escape with her, seaƱing the fate of our Officio for betrayal (or, at least, sealing our fate).

GUYS, DON'T TRY TO ESCAPE IN THE EMERGENCY POD WITH MAMI!
>>
>>1278106

>>
>>1278102

>>
>>1278109

>>1278111
This was what I was thinking of.
>>
>>1278107
>Then, if we are clever, we remain in the moonbase and say "I tried to stop her, but she took an emergency pod", pretending to be on The First side.

Why would they believe us? Nanoha already made it clear that she (and probably the rest of the first) was only waiting for an excuse.

I agree with the not fleeing immediately part though, we should loot their golden weapons. This is also a golden opportunity to kill their injured culexus.
>>
>>1278112

Which brings me to this.
What good is her body, if we don't know where her soulgem is?
Soulgem first, then the body.
>>
>>1278114
If we're going to throw ourselves in the thick of it, we might as well kill everyone aligned with Hazuki. No enemies, no retaliation. Kill the warmaster with her company and install Vintage as the new one, propose atmospheric immolation for the dickbutt if he opposes.
>>
>>1278118

Might as well spread those wings of ours, right?
Not like there will be anyone who would oppose us from there.
And I'm only half shitposting there.
>>
>>1278114
Because let's not forget that our actions could also make our Officio fall. It's best to pretend to be on their side. After all, if they are going to kill us anyway, then the outcome it's not going to change. And if they are looking for an excuse, let's not give them one. They can think that we are lying, but without proof, euther they contain their hand or, as you say, they attack us. Anyway, what I mean is to act as a loyal warmaster ally of the First. And that's it.
Now, I doubt the Culexus is going to tecover soon, but if the cahnce presents itself, killing her is a good idea

Almost each and every one member of The First are more monster in mindset than disciplined soldiers. To a one, they're mildly-to-moderately less obscene versions of Kharn. Most of their traits that you'd think are born from professionalism are just as likely to stem from an "Alpha Dog" mindset.

My impression of the First is that they're like a group of 16 year old clanners in an FPS. A handful of people ridiculously good at what they do that look invincible from the outside, but are actually just a mob of edgy divas who crack when they get a curveball from randos who unexpectedly punch way above their weight class.

>>
>>1278155
then why is another, singular edgy 16 year old able to overwhelm them
>>
>>1278155

Come to think of it, few officios seem to train to fight in formation. The First especially is supposed to be made of one-girl armies that can murderize entire officios on their own. Guess they didn't plan for enemies that need coordinated responses.

>Even without looking - and you can't, not without risking blindness from the migraine-bright flashes of light and explosion of color from the desperate attacks

I dunno what people are going on about organization and effieciency when the person narrating can hardly see what's going on over the explosions, and the one thing she's telling for sure is that the girls seem to be losing a battle of attrition because the Witch is regenerating weapons faster than the girls can fend it off and their attacks don't reach the main body.
>>
>>1278162
>>1278160

>>
>>1278159
Haven't you ever seen immature guild groups/premades fall apart or ragequit when their pub stomping gets thrown off? (because half of them are in it for their KDR) This situation doesn't seem like anything they've had to deal with before, something that required betrayal from one of their own to happen besides. Requirement of joining the First is power and a chip to put on your shoulder. I think it's pretty easy to see how their mystique overshadows just how atrocious their organization is on a personal level, especially vs. an out of context problem.

You can still make it work by making their tactics Kuromorimine-like - effective in well kept formation just mowing down enemies, shitty when somebody blitzkriegs right into their ass.
They wouldn't have that problem if they just invested in a dildo psychotic loli. Or magical girl Miho.

To be honest?

I don't know what will.
>>
>>1278170
I'm guessing because the one edgelord is able to do that with the element of surprise and prior planning. The First probably has the power to do what you're saying they should be doing and take the witch out, but their bad organization and lone wolf mindset just makes them a mob of deadly idiots when they aren't fighting in their preferred context. Smaller and more organized force taking on a larger and stronger enemy who should win on paper, you know?

Like >>1278172 said, just like how the Guppies beat Kuromorimine and the uni team when they had no place doing so. Except Kuro and the uni team are bravado edgelords.

+ Savior pod? + You shake your head here as you run to the pair, immediately scooping Mami up in your arms in order to relieve the clearly-struggling former Warmaster of her load. She's...definitely lighter than how you remember her to be, but maybe that's just the adrenalin. + Why not just teleport back down? It'd be faster, wouldn't it? And where's her Soul Gem? +

+ The entire place is on full alert because of the breach. That means total lockdown. The savior pods are the only way back home. + Vintage winces as she hears another member of the First get messily eviscerated by the bladed chains, before pulling a glowing amber jewel set in a cute flower-petal gilding from the depths of her sleeves and then tossing it to you. You reach out with your free hand to catch it, but in a surprising display of reflexive sharpness despite grievous and crippling injury, Mami pre-empts you - her blood-encrusted fingers closing around the glowing rock.

+ Mine + Is all that the blonde pulses to both you and Vintage, a weak pitiful gasp of a mental sigh, before her head lolls forward on her neck, still clearly out of strength from...whatever the First did to her. Vintage shakes her head at this, an unreadable expression on her face, before leading you away from the frenzied, murderous chaos. One you steal another glance from before Vintage ushers you outside of the chapel, through an unsealed door and down a long corridor. One that hasn't seen occupants in years from the looks of it.

You wanted to ask about that. You wanted to ask Vintage why the supposedly 'strongest' Magical Girls in the world were fall apart like wet paper in a hurricane, under the attack of one single and solitary Witch. But most of all you wanted to ask Mami about what she did, and what she tried to do.

A thousand questions, but only time for one, as you hurry towards the Savior Pod, the screams of the dying and the shrieking of the sirens fading away in the distance. As the Transcendent One's voice echoes in your mind, unbidden.

"If you proceed down on this path you've chosen for yourself, all the things that you hold dear will be taken away from you. Your friends will become your enemies, and your enemies will be the ones you turn to for aid. You will lose everything, piece by piece, person by person, until you are left with nothing but the road you're traveling. And of all the people who will abandon you, Tomoe Mami will be the one to betray you first."

That does it, we're conquering the First. As I said, massacre the Hazuki fraction within the base, acquire GWs, make Coobie take over the business and make Vintage a new warmaster. I remind you that ONE member of the First can kill an Officio. And the witch is not killing everyone: she would be defeated in the end. The surviving members will be more than enough to wipe us. Let's be realistic here: right now we can't compete with them. Maybe if we take control of our demon powers, but that would means that everyone wull be convinced that we are the Devil incarnate. "Why?" Even with your untransformed, still-human body crying out for a moment's rest, even with adrenalin spiking your pulse and pounding through your bloodstream, even with the chilling thought that any moment the First would catch on and realize what you've done - you find yourself asking her why. The note of sick-hearted despair in that one uttered word painfully audible, even if you tried your level best to hide it with accusation. With anger. With the offended fury of the betrayed.

It takes her a moment to respond, and when she does, it's with her slowly lifting her head to smile weakly at you. Her eyes opening to reveal dead, empty orbs of yellow when there had been warmth in the glowing amber before. Her skin pale enough to almost be translucent.

+ Did...what I felt...had to be done, Chiaki-san. + Her pulsing is slow, weak and erratic, like a radio signal cutting in and out. + Whether it's you or...the First Warmaster herself. +

+Someone has to carry...that burden. No matter how much it hurts.+

Before you could react - before you could pulse or even spit the hot, acidic bile rising in your throat - Vintage's frantic, hurried calls for your attention cuts you off. You look forward to see your destination rapidly approaching despite your hobbling pace - a row of savior pods, each one prepped to launch at the press of a button, hatches open and ready for passengers to squeeze themselves into safety. Each pod a large but cramped-looking metal sphere with what appears to be rudimentary thrusters dotting its bulkily-armored surface.

"Clock's ticking, the both of you get in! They've already fended off Luxuria and regenerated their injuries! They'll be here any moment!" Vintage hurries you along, the mousy Equerry wringing her hands inside her kimono sleeves. "I've already notified the Ninth to scramble some staff up to your potential landing sites for recovery!"

You glare at the limp, weakened blonde in your arms before turning towards the savior pods. You'll just have to ask her about it later, you decide. Back at the Ninth. And maybe inside a Silent Room, just to be sure.

Not really, rather, squads are the rather more common way the Officios handle personnel. You've got them basically everywhere except where it wouldn't make sense like 4th or 13th.

And that might actually be the point. Maybe with the exception of Satsuki, everyone in here is a special snowflake. Once you rise up through ranks to become a squad leader and eventually a rank leader on account of your experience with personnel management, you're too valuable on your position to promote anymore - if the normal way is how you got there in the first place. The way that you get people like Warmaster or people the First would be interested in is that you make an outrageous contract, get some completely bullshit magic like time stop that makes you a special potential that would be 'spoiled' working in a squad, and then you spend a hard to recall time that is in actuality five years shooting witches and yakuza in drunken stupor before the the Incubator walks up to you after a particularly big gig, and is like "Congratulations, you're the biggest murderhobo around. Would you like to become a Warmaster?"

And that's probably what the First really is. A bunch of misfits whose first experience at teamwork was actual warmaster stuff, and their past never truly faded away. In an Officio, the Warmaster is a figure that draws inspiration, but really, they're like a big hammer and when there's a particulary big nail around, that's what you have the Warmaster for.

And now we got the mother of all nails crashing the ceiling of this antique tools workshop, and the hammers are hitting each other in confusion.

We'll pretend we're keeping Vintage hostage as a bargaining chip with the First. It's not like we can make them any more mad. Plus it will explain why Vintage was with us, so she won't be in danger of being labelled a traitor. If this reasoning is wrong, I'm sure Vintage would just decline.

> They've basically turned her into a puppet they were slowly draining of life

...
Guys.
It's the 1st's Warmaster.

> "I THINK I left a partial list of suspected Golden Weapon users in my room, but you'll have to ask Yuma to help you get in."
We gotta get talking with that staff too.

And it's supported by

> "No. That's the one thing I was trying to find out when Walpurgisnacht happened. I was hoping I'd be able to find her in the confusion of that kind of event, but..." She shakes her head. "I know she's contracted, though. Someone in the more powerful Officios. But you'll know her when you see her, and when you do..." The Culexus draws a leather-encased thumb across her gorget.

Last but not least.
We have to use the word 'Nevermore' more often.
> "I hear you. Okay, don't spread it around, but I have it from a reliable source that the Spymaster's been trained to...uh..." The Culexus seems to hesitate here, going with some rather awkward hand movements instead. "...you know. Do 'that' on command. Some kind of weird sex hypnotism shit that she was trained on by someone she got into trouble with."

...
Well shit.
This is a lot of information we should write down somewhere.
>>
>>1278500

> "Do you think it's up to me? I'm part of this prerecorded memory, aren't I?" Malal snaps at you. "Even if we're talking like this, here and now, there are still some things that are set in stone. The moment you wake up, Chiaki Matsuda is gone. It's going to happen, and nothing bar rewriting this particular memory itself is going to stop it--"

> She stops here, just as lighting fissures the very sky underneath her. Her visor reflecting the bolts of electricity as she looks up, and then the gold luster of your Desert Eagle as she comes face to face with its barrel.

> "...Alright, that MIGHT work." Malal finally concedes. "But you're basically fucking with your own head, you know? Sure, you might not forget anything, but
you're risking some serious brain damage with that. The kind of brain damage that makes you pee all over yourself while you twitch like a fucking Chihuahua. And it's going to hurt like a bitch--"

She was wounded badly, but she still had enough strength to make ribbon duplicates (this is verifiably true), and managed to be tricky enough to get to a pod and escape.

Strategically, we needed two things out of this part of the quest - we needed to be above suspicion from the 1st, because our Officio is precious, and we needed to get some Golden Weapons, because we need to progress the motherfucking plot god damn it. Both of these goals required us to stay on the Moon longer than we have.

Wrong again: there is a Homura resident in this timeline. Anything that comes from the AR is another person different from her. Considering that Chiaki is a Homura and this timeline Homura is the other, then there is no way that your theory is correct. This timeline Homura can't be one from the AR. The only explanation is that Hazuki is this timeline Homura or that there is a 3th Homura waiting to make her apparition
>>
>>1278380 >>1278387 >>1278401

You take a split second to make the call. You and Mami will take seperate savior pods back to the surface. It makes sense - if they've already found out what's happened, and decide to simply blow up the first savior pod they see, they'll have to contend with the chances of blowing up an 'innocent' Officio Warmaster, rather than the perpetrator they've just decided the verdict of guilty on. Of course, that involves another gamble where they haven't yet figured out YOUR involvement in Mami's escape, but you never know...

+ You don't have to justify a decision like that to someone like me, Chiaki-san.+ Mami lifts her head to look at you again, the same tired smile on her face as you move to help her limp, ragged form into one of the pods. + Most of all to yourself. Like I said earlier...doing what you feel needs to be done. Making that decision that no one else can but you, and bearing the consequences of it. No matter if it hurts. ...Especially when it hurts. +

...

+ You're having us go on seperate pods because you want to make it look like I escaped, rather than you helping me escape. + She lets out a breathless chuckle here. + So that our Officio - our friends, our family - won't be implicated in this madness, and escape excommunication. Just like a Warmaster would. +

You look back at her, silent. Frozen. Horrified.

N-no, of course not, that wasn't--

+I told you. You don't need to justify it. To me or to yourself. I understand you completely. + It's here, then, that she reaches up with one hand to grip your shoulder - and you blink as she squeezes you there with a surprising amount of strength. Using you as support to slowly clamber out of your grasp and stand on her own two feet. "Which is why I think I can do this now, and hope you understand my intentions with the same clarity as I do yours."

"What?" Is the question you were posed to ask, just as Vintage herself turns towards you, puzzled and surprised at the sound of Mami's voice. Not just in the fact that she could talk with any capacity after her obvious torture and incarceration, but how...determined she sounded. "What are you--"

Ribbons. Thick, impossibly strong and smelling of honey, they sprang out of nowhere and wrapped around you with such prodigious, rattlesnake speed that you barely had time to gasp in surprise. Your arms immediately pinned to your sides, immobilizing you, preventing you from engaging your time stop even if you could manage to transform right then and there. The ends neatly tying themselves into a pretty bow at your front, secured with a brooch lock.

With barely a sigh of effort, her soul gem sparking as it works furiously to heal her injuries and provide her with as much strength as it could before burning itself out of magic - Mami stuffs you into one of the savior pods. The savior pod you were helping her into moments before.

All this, happening in the space of a single eyeblink.

You grunt and growl at this after getting over the initial jarring shock of it, trying to brute-force your way through your bonds with gritted teeth and harsh language. Cursing loudly and vehemently as Vintage herself is pushed into the same pod as you, her hands raised as she backs away from an ivory musket wielded with a rock-steady hand.

"MAMI!" You finally find it in yourself at to shout, to scream again, at the outrageous absurdity of it all. "WHAT THE -FUCK- ARE YOU DOING NOW?! LET ME GO, GET THIS FUCKING RIBBON OFF ME--! MAMI! PLEASE!!"

"You're making a grave mistake," you hear Vintage say to her, her voice cold. "She'll kill you. You don't have a hope of killing her, not in the state you're in."

"I know." Mami replies as she smiles at you - one last time - before flicking the wrist of her free hand to the side. Another musket manifesting in her grip, but this time wrought in demonic, devilish gold. Her eyes immediately flooded with sunless, fathomless black, leaving only the pupils amber.

"But all the same, I'd like to try again, this time with everything I've got." She nods at Vintage. "Please take care of Chiaki-san. Consider it my last request." Then, she turns to you. "Chiaki-san, thank you...and goodbye."

At this point it doesn't matter!

We're like a Wehrmacht soldier in Berlin in 1945 obsessing over how good his shooting skills are, how polished his boots are and how good his melee skills are when the Russian comes! No matter how much he excels, in the onslaught of history he'll be swept along regardless!

At this point, the smartest thing is to hold onto the people we love and care about, keep our principles in mind, do our best for our fellow man and do the best we can to ride this wave out until it all comes to an end - one way or another.

Do your best. Clutch whoever matters close. Grit your teeth and open your lips. God willing, you'll keep at least some of them. Let love be our watchword.

You know, I'm not even mad, I'm something beyond furious. We come to the moon base, willing to lay ourselves and our Officio on the line to rescue Mami. We bring everything we have, resolute in our conviction that having the entire First pay the blood price would be worth it if it would save Mami. All of this preparation, the sneaking about making deals with witches, plotting with the First's very equerry to betray her Warmaster, and we get sent home on our ass. All because Mami wants to be the big hero. All our efforts to save her are worth nothing. We could have sold what little humanity we had left in a deal with the devil to save Mami, but that comes out as little more than a pittance against her drive to play hero just one last time.

>>
Please take this time to consider your goals and the consequences of your actions.

Do we want to:
- Save Mami
- Recover her golden musket
- Grab golden weapons from first officio members
- Make sure our officio doesn't get purged

I think going full satan would result in us failing the last one.

The third one will be difficult considering how close people get to those weapons and the general strength of first members.

I'd say aim for the first and last goals, and failing the first at least aim for the second.
>>
>>1282748
We are currently tied up inside an escape-pot that is about to start. I doubt we will be able to do anything but talk/pulse.

If we are not able to do move the minimum requirement has to be Mami pulsing us her memories. We can achieve this by talking.
If we are able to move I agree with your goals.
>>
>>1282748
I think that only the last is within our current capabilities. I feel that right now we cannot save Mami as we are currently tied up in an escape pod. Nor can we recover her golden muskets when she dies. As such, they will fall into the hands of the 1st and will likely be handed over to one of their people. Reclaiming any golden weapons will be insanely difficult without transforming. But transforming reveals us to be the devil, and will violate the 4th objective.

Also, do we know what the 1st officio's rules are regarding golden weapon users from other officios? Do they kill then, leave them along, or do they try to recruit them?

"No! NO! YOU DON'T GET TO DO THAT! NOT TO ME!" You roar as you frantically struggle to get up, your heels grinding against the savior pod's bare metal grating floor. Every movement you make infuriatingly making the ribbon cinch tighter around you, to the point that it's almost crushing. "I CAME HERE TO RESCUE YOU! EVEN AFTER WHAT YOU DID - EVEN AFTER EVERYTHING YOU'VE DONE!! YOU DON'T GET TO PLAY A FUCKING MARTYR AFTER ALL OF THAT!"

"Chiaki--"

"WHAT ABOUT MIDORI? WHAT ABOUT ALL THE OTHER GIRLS WHO LOOK UP TO YOU AND FUCKING WORSHIP YOU? ARE YOU GOING TO LEAVE THEM ALL JUST TO PLAY HERO AGAIN?!" The brooch securing your bonds clicks heavily as you finally manage to pull yourself up to your feet. "WENDY! SAYAKA! KYOKO! EVERYONE--"

It's then that you feel it, and your shock of it is such that it chokes off the rest of your desperate tirade. A sudden stab of freezing, unnerving cold, one that cut right through your soul. A chilling fear that you've never felt before, not even with Pinky at her worst. Icy fingers curling around your heart, moments before tearing it out of your chest.

A shadow, manifesting at the very end of the corridor. Blurring into reality after briefly warping the world around them. A young woman, with long silver hair and cold, piercing eyes. Her form swaddled with the symbol of her rank: a black cape, fastened at the front with roman numeral I.

You shouldn't know her. You've never seen her before.

But as she takes a step towards you - then another, in a deliberate and unhurried pace - you immediately know who she is. Even if you yourself know that it's not possible, that there's no way--

That's...no, that's not...

Another step, then another. And then, you watch as she throws back her cape, revealing an oversized clawed gauntlet encasing her right arm and hand. Each finger terminating in a wicked scythe-blade that rivaled Sayaka's swords in length, and Kharn's own fleshmetal claws in brutality. Two fat twin-linked bolter barrels sprouted from the gauntlet's wrist and extended past the knuckles, their mouths wrought into daemon's roaring maws.

And it too, was gold. Shining, lustrous gold. The same gold that shone from Mami's flintlock rifle.

"Nameless One." The killer whispers with your voice. Smiling with your lips.

"We meet at last."

How do you react?

You wanted to move. You wanted to scream. You wanted to roar your name at her, to spit your REAL name into her face - the name that you've taken as your own, and not the name of the failure that you never chose to be a fucked-up copy of. Not the title that your other selves had bestowed upon you either, the otherwise mysterious-sounding moniker making the bile rise at the back of your throat as you'd grown to realize its true meaning from more than your fair share of convoluted visions, twisted prophecies and horrific half-remembered nightmares.

Your name is Chiaki Matsuda, you wanted to say. Not Akemi Homura, not the Nameless One.

Chiaki Matsuda.

But you couldn't. You couldn't even move. Even breathing felt like a monumental task, as your entire body locked up and froze at her gaze.

A gaze that is then quickly blocked by Mami's own face, fear staining her features - even as the influence of her Golden Weapon twisted them into something horrific.

She says your name one last time, just as the door of the savior pod slams shut and secures itself closed. The grimy transparent window allowing you to catch the final sight of Mami turning back to face your murderer, raising both rifles, right before an ever-expanding web of yellow ribbons begin to fill the corridor.

The pod blares its warning in your ear, above Vintage's own panicked cursing.

And as your entire world shakes, before dropping underneath you in a sudden, stomach-churning freefall...

+ This isn't about me, Chiaki. Not after every horrible thing I've done. +

+ After every single thing I've done wrong. +

+ This is me trying to make amends, the only way I knew how. +

+ This is me saving you from her. Because she knows who you are. +

+ Goodbye. I'm sorry about Midori. I'm sorry about Wendy. +

+ I'm sorry about everyo-- +

...

...

And then, a release of pressure. A sudden slackening of your tight, crushing restraints, one so sudden that along with the relief of being far away from - whoever that was - makes your knees buckle and sends you flat on your ass, on the savior pod's floor.

The ribbon - it's melted away into black, clotted blood. Smearing into your once-pristine costume.

Leaving behind an elegant golden mask, one shaped like the unfurled wings of a butterfly, and bearing the roman numeral XVIII.

There are no choices. Nothing but a straight line. The illusion comes afterwards, when you ask 'Why me?' and 'What if?' when you look back. You see the branches - like a pruned bonsai tree, or a forked lightning.

If you had done something differently, it wouldn't be you. It would be someone else looking back, asking a different set of questions.

NOW WHO'S GONNA MAKE US PANCAKES GODDAMMIT

VINTAGE YOU BETTER KNOW HOW TO MAKE SOME FUCKING PANCAKES

I think we're beyond doubly screwed at this point. I have a feeling our Officio's about to be purged.

I guess Hazuki was the assassin that Ira was talking about, which makes a lot of sense since all the other Homuras are under TTO's control.

That's another golden weapon in our possession as well so that brings it to six. Mami's gun is stuck on the moon for now, together with Hazuki's claw. That's at least 8 weapons we know the whereabouts of I guess.
>>
>>1283036
Hazuki just stopped time, so she might have the zawarudo shield.

It's supposed to be an ability unique to us and her. We kind of are Homura herself, but the shield doesn't even act like ours, and time magic, being rare, is clearly related to Homura's very specific wish that Hazuki probably didn't make. So it looks like a very logical conclusion to make that the XXI lets the user stop time.

By the way, considering just who Hazuki is didn't seem to be set in stone before, and may have been more something the players came up with and Decu picked up, the initials being the same as Akemi Homura is pretty cool.

Too high up in the First to be a plant, I think. Ira was mentioning "pulling strings" and "bypassing the wards", but with warmaster wrapped around their finger they wouldn't even need that much.
Then there's Lewdxuria, which according to Ira was supposed to be on an "assignment". Whether what happened here was according to her plan we don't know.
Speaking of which, we still have her witch core in our inventory, right?

>>
>>1283090
>Didn't Wendy get 'taken away' by church people?
That's what we've been told. Either way, we should be able to get some info from the inhabitant.

It's slowly starting to make sense to me. Hazuki Amane is the real Shieldmaiden, bringer of the apocalypse. The Church of the Golden Land is devoted to Madokami/Pinky and opposed to all forms of Akemi Homura. That's why Mami (being an important figure in the Church, hence involvement with Wendy) tried to slay us as soon as we grew wings. Midori changed her mind by simply being the Blessed Lady's chosen and Chiaki's girlfriend. Mami decided that she's been played like a damn fiddle and turned to Hazuki, leading to present day.
And what that would make us? We're the fall guy, a false satan that's meant to turn the entire magical world against her while the real devil sits comfortably on the Moon.
>>
>>1283132
A problem with that is that the Golden Land, despite being probably the biggest cult of the Blessed Lady, is still a cult, thus somehow in disagreement with the Church. Beyond that, they are rather in favor of the Shieldmaiden, which is exactly why Ahriman did a thing like wiping out the church.

Mami being an important figure in the church is massive conjecture, but her position in that regard is also all kinds of weird, with Candeloro being an extremely obscure figure even among cultists.
>>
>>1283180
I'm getting some facts about the cults here wrong, feel free to correct me when I fuck up.
I didn't mean "figure" as a religious figure, I meant important person. She was in close contact with Wendy's cult and probably had some influence over it. If Wendy's cult likes the Shieldmaiden, that makes even more sense, because Mami was close with the First as well. That's where Hazuki might have set her up against us. She was set up, but Midori made her realize the truth. You can't be a homusatan and have the Blessed Lady's chosen by your side.
I clearly remember Ahriman's cult being against the Shieldmaiden and trying to off us because of that. And they turned to be right, they just got the wrong homu.
At this point I'm starting to think that Homusatan (the slutty one with seven deadly sins) might have been a red herring all along.
>>

I'm looking forward to seeing how we can loose cannon our way out of this one, because it looks like Hazooki has us dead to rights.

Well that is both good and bad. I was hoping that it would allow us to easily change our appearance, so that we don't look like the fucking devil. This kinda kills the 9th.

Anyways, we need to start planning out who we can trust with golden weapons. Yes, this sounds fucking stupid but I wouldn't be suggesting this if the 1st weren't trying to neck us. At this point it's reasonable to assume that 9th is done for so we ought to move to damage reduction as we become the megucia equivalent of outer heaven. As far as I know of (so correct me if I'm wrong) there are only 3 people who may be able to withstand the effects of the golden weapons. Kharn (due to being the test dummy for our procedure and previous experience with the weapons), Kyouko (due to the robot arm) and Vintage (due to being tough enough to be the 2.I.C. to the 1st officio and a former warmaster of the 9th)

Also, we need Sakaya on our side. Though to say that this will be difficult is an understatement. No doubt 1st will be pushing the rhetoric that we went rouge, killed Mami and escaped. We have to return to the 9th to talk with Sayaka before she witches out.

It's not about cults anyway, it's about homus and madokas, always been. My point is that we've been played by another homu.

Kyouko and Sayaka tend to go berserk when Homura Akemi is involved. Kharn is the Betrayer, that's why we should keep her as close as possible. Vintage doesn't seem to have much choice now, really. We may still grill Lewdxuria for info about this secret organization that helped us with Mami's rescue. We have to find Wendy, wherever she is.

>>
>>1283320
Yeah, upon further review I miss-remembered why Kyouko got the new arm. It was to get a leg up WITHOUT having to use the golden weapons. That kinda takes Kyouko out of the running as we need fucking city-killers right now. People that are at least as powerful as us and/or Kharn and Sayaka.

>>1283323
On Kyouko and Sayaka, we kinda need them on side because if they aren't with us then they will smoke us. Both of them are CQC beasts, and while we have the golden weapons on our side, we just aren't built for CQC, I suppose we could try either the katana or the kiraka special (i.e. sniping them with an anti-tank gun), but as soon as they enter melee range we loose our advantages. On our side however, not only do we gain an emotional rock, we also gain a pair of very good MGs who we know and trust.

On Kharn, she is one of the few guaranteed allies we have. Our long friendship and similar conditions almost make us a perfect match. But the problems with her are that we don't know if she wants to return to the battlefield, what with being a mother and all. Secondly, we don't know how effective her treatment against the golden weapon effects is.

Vintage is a gamble. While she's practically stuck with us, and an insanely good fighter. She might not cut it against the golden weapon armed foes we'll probably be facing. And we have no guarantee that we can put her through the same treatment as us. QB at the moment is a giant fucking question mark. And he might just decide that it would be better to leave us out to die to save the 9th's collective neck.

Wendy is a massive question mark for me. But that's probably because I haven't read much into the write ups. I don't know her worth aside from her golden weapon -the knife-, and her relationship with us. If you can give me other reasons then I would be thankful.
>>
>>1283367
>as we need fucking city-killers right now
Bring a tank. Or three. Call in an airstrike. Or three. Nuke. Or three hundred.

Call in a favor with the army. One magical girl might be a threat to whatever, but seven thousand riflemen? Quantity has a quality all of its own.
>>
>>1283367
Mami was killed like she was nothing, our minions would die just as quickly, golden weapon or not. We need to use them ourselves and face Hazuki on a somewhat even footing.

Remember, the whole point of collecting all golden weapons is that their effects stack. Using all twenty puts our strength in Pinky territory. Using the 6 or 7 we have will allow us to face Hazuki.
>>
>>1283367
>On Kyouko and Sayaka, we kinda need them on side because if they aren't with us then they will smoke us.
On that I agree. The question is, whether they smoke us as our enemies by the order of the First, or do they stab us in the back when their hatred against Homura kicks in. Kyouko is actually the more level-headed one, but Sayaka will retire us the first moment we start looking like a bad guy. And we're already looking like a bad guy here.
>On Kharn, she is one of the few guaranteed allies we have.
I can't help but to be suspicious of her. That's why I want to trust her. She will either fuck everything up at the worst possible moment, or die saving us.
>But the problems with her are that we don't know if she wants to return to the battlefield, what with being a mother and all. Secondly, we don't know how effective her treatment against the golden weapon effects is.
Good point. She is a part of the 9th though. Officio's future is also the future of her children.
>Vintage is a gamble.
I bet she's also pissed and ready to fight.
>QB at the moment is a giant fucking question mark.
He's been itching for a hostile takeover for a while, while getting more and more empathetic with his megucas. And he's a scheming mutant cat that rolls in battle scenarios like it's catnip.
>Wendy is a massive question mark for me.
Wendy is Wendy really. I don't even know if she wanted to be put into this mess in the first place. She was really into Mami though, she might join the party for revenge alone.

How about this:

Malal's vision about us getting hunted by Kyouko because we killed Mami is still what we are headed towards, because the First will now accuse us of having killed Mami and nobody can know any better.

That said, the Ninth fighting for us is clearly off the table now, and Mami not actually really dying in the fight trying to put us down might throw Malal for a loop. Us handing over the Soul Gem was unpredictable, but what Midori did was probably not a very predicatable thing either.
>>
>>1283296
>>1283465
We have Vintage on our side; the word of a former Warmaster should be fairly believable, at least within our own Officio. I'm also not sure how they're gonna spin that shit since Mami was already slated for execution. Why would we go out of our way to kill her?

Then again this is noir so everyone hates us by default I guess.

We should assume for now that the entire ninth is on a hitlist. First things to do now are to re-establish contact with Coobs, Sayaka and Kyouko.

Best-case scenario we manage to get our friends on our side.

Worst-case scenario they send everyone to hunt us down without a 5 second headstart.

Also as much as we might want to talk to the Mask spirit right away, we should probably stay alert for now because Ira's assassin still hasn't shown up.

Honestly something is fishy as hell here.

Luxuria being here is something TTO obviously knows about given her warning/communication with Chaki about it.

Amane being indisposed but then suddenly able to show up exactly where we are. Just in time to kill Mami even faster then the rest of her crew. Kind of like she was watching and waiting for us.

Also given how accurate the warning of TTO was about Mami betraying us is we need to worry about that.

>>1283789
> we should probably stay alert for now because Ira's assassin still hasn't shown up.

I'm not really sure if it even is an assassination attempt here. She mostly said she would make it difficult for Chaki to leave but that it wouldn't be anything major.

Luxuria showing up like this and this entire situation could very well get the entire first after us. Which is pretty fucking bad and something TTO could have planned out.

There is also the hint that Ira gave before that Luxuria is the most unstable of the 7 sins. Which we haven't seen any examples of yet. I wonder if it is possible the witch core she gave us is linked to a different witch?
>>
>>1284134

It's probably just a spare body that he nevertheless needs to transport to talk to the First in private. Huh, I was sure we were gonna run facefirst into Nanoha since she left the room before the whole witch thing started.
This is rather more terrifying, though. I wonder just what Hazuki wished for. Did she have dreams, like Malal did? How much did she know from the start? Maybe she simply wished to be able to stop all of this, long ago.
She's the one who decides if the Ninth lives or dies, all evidence and justifications aside. I wonder if she'll ask for us, alone, to spare the rest.
>>
>>1284369
Decu confirmed in ask.fm that this timeline Homura has profetic dreams too, and that she has her own agenda
>>
>>1284148
>witch core of a different witch
gdi

Though now I wonder if licking a witch core does the same thing as licking a soul gem.

I guess there are a few possibilities here:
- Luxuria is loyal to TTO and Vintage is Taqiyyah-ing us
- Luxuria is loyal to TTO and is somehow misleading Vintage
- Luxuria has her own keikaku and her endgame requires her to help us - for now, at least.

I don't think Luxuria was working under TTO's orders in this instance, though. She was after all supposed to be far far away from the moon - such that she couldn't be called upon to screw with us. And if she really wanted she could have just killed us outright; considering how TTO really wants us gone from the picture, I don't see why she hasn't just offed us if this is the case.

Could someone jolt my memory regarding
>Luxuria being here is something TTO obviously knows about given her warning/communication with Chaki about it.
?

We should probably also ask Vintage about Luxuria while we still can.

Hazuki being 'indisposed' could have meant any number of things. She has Mary-God-Sue powers and prophetic dreams. Maybe she just batmanned that we would be here if things went to shit in the execution chamber.

Wouldn't put it past her to be in cahoots with TTO somehow though - considering how TTO has some vague ability that allows her to 'control' Homuras that aren't us. Then again if she did have that level of control, there would have been no point in Ira trying to pull strings.

I am more concerned about one things: Why didn't Hazuki acted before? If she knew who Chiaki is from the beginning, Why not act before? Why wait all this time?
>>
>>1286671
Who said she knew from the beginning? Malal broke our shield to make it harder for TTO to find us - the same could apply to Hazuki. We would become one of the good guys with powerful friends by our side, making everything a cakewalk. But we did you-know-what and ultimately revealed ourselves. Hazuki probably can smell our heresy from miles away now.
What's curious is that Malal tried to name us Akemi Homura in Kharn's flashback. Wouldn't that defeat the whole purpose of keeping us low? Maybe she tried to make us into another Shieldmaiden, the good one from Madokami pantheon?
>>
>>1287197
Nah. The story was not settled at that time. The idea of Homura=Devil-that-everyone-have-heard-about came later
>>
>>1287212
But Malal was scheming almost from the beginning and Schieldmaiden started popping out around the same time as Homusatan I think. It fits Malal's plan - take a blank state homu (Nameless One), turn her into homu that was by Madoka's side (Shieldmaiden), not the one that did nothing wrong (Akuma Homura). But we wanted to know who we are, so now we are another Homusatan, we were supposed to be another Shieldmaiden. It also makes sense that going that route can make Sayaka and Kyouko angry since they're also good guys from that religion.
My knowledge of Madokami cults is spotty to be honest. I will check archives if I find some time.
>>
>>1287230

>"If you proceed down on this path you've chosen for yourself, all the things that you hold dear will be taken away from you. Your friends will become your enemies, and your enemies will be the ones you turn to for aid. You will lose everything, piece by piece, person by person, until you are left with nothing but the road you're traveling. And of all the people who will abandon you, Tomoe Mami will be the one to betray you first."

TTO obviously knows what is going on if she is making prophecy about the consequences and accurately read that Mami would betray Chaki via letting herself die.

Given they were talking about pulling strings during the TTO interlude and given how Vintage seems to have contacts with Luxuria. I kind of assume the plan was something like Pulling strings to get Vintage to get Chaki in contact with them.

Then get Chaki to give them a signal to get into base. While Amane waits for Chaki to make a move on Mami. Once that happens Amane will boot herself there and see the two of them escaping and then use that as an excuse to have the 9th wiped out.

Because who would question the 1sts warmaster when she says she saw Chaki using a witch attack to save a traitor?

Add in Luxuria's comment that she wants to talk to Chaki afterwards to give her a bigger offer. Which she knows is going to be noticed by TTO. I theorize what they are trying to do is get Chaki to set the world off against her. Then give her an offer for support for aid in some endeavors elsewhere.

Which explains why she said the entire spiel about allies becoming foes and foes becoming allies.

All conjecture so far but it does seem to mostly add up.

A prophecy, quite a few megucas already done some prognostication related to us. By the way, those words were spoken during Akashic Realm mission, when we met TTO for the first time. And she said it to make us turn back.

From the TTO thread
>As you can see, we're the only ones here. Everyone else - that's Avaritia, Acedia, Superbia, Luxuria and Gula - are out on errands.
>"Well, she's on her way to Ground Zero, it looks like. Luxuria sent in a report about a couple of hours ago saying that she spotted the Nameless One's thread intersecting with some really big players, and from the looks of it there's going to be some cutting here and there."
>...So, she's going to try and rescue the yellow one, is she?
>Again the back-and-forth stare between your two remaining subordinates. "Honestly, boss? We're not really sure. I mean, we did see the yellow one pretty much throw her to the wolves, right? Her and that other titty monster she was running around with?" Ira shrugs. "I think it's more likely she's just going to watch the execution over drinks and cigarettes, pretty much.
>Sounds like something she'd do, yeah?"
>No, you shake your head, and for the first time since you woke up you feel a smile curl your lips. She'll save the yellow one. She'll save Tomoe Mami. You're sure of that. She's stupid enough, foolhardy enough, and most of all naive enough to chance it.
>"And before you ask, boss, we don't have anyone near enough to make the jump in time, but if you think we have a window of opportunity here, I can pull a few strings if you like."
>Do it, you tell her. Someone should be there. Someone positioned to strike at the Nameless One in the ensuing chaos, to finish what you started. To be able to capitalize on that chance when it presents itself.
>"Then I'll make my own calls after this, then." Ira says, tapping at her smartphone's screen with a well-manicured finger. "I'm not promising anything major since it's a bit short notice and bypassing the wards in Ground Zero can be a bit tricky, but I can at least guarantee the Nameless One won't exactly have a safe trip both ways."
Doesn't look like Ira even knew that Lewdxuria was on the Moon. And Lewdxuria can prognosticate (maybe she's the one that made prophecy about Mami's betrayal). Their plan seems to be just waiting at the right moment and kill us.
