The year is 2173, humans have advanced, developing new technologies and exploring the Sol system at large, colonising Luna, Mars, Europa, Ganymede and Titan. A boom in economy and technology spurred humanity forward as each planet allowed for vast resource gathering and mining, scientific breakthrough and study. One of the biggest breakthroughs in living memory is the development of a prototype warp drive, allowing humanity to make jumps to neighbouring star systems and send and receive information over thousands of light years. The Hermes was the first company ship to be designed and fitted with the warp drive in attempts to travel to Gliese 581 to explore a new solar system. Sol waited with baited breath as The Hermes departed from Earth and made its jump, within hours reports were coming back through to earth. Inspection of one of the planets had signs of life. Photos from the orbit of one of Glieses planets had what appeared to be structures built tall, towering over the natural landscape. The possibility of meeting aliens within the foreseeable future excited and scared humanity, hours passed by and communications with the Hermes began to fade. Some last blurry audio made it back to Earth “Somethi.. ong... The... thing and no...” followed quickly by “We n... help”
That was almost 2 weeks ago and the Sol system has heard nothing from the Hermes since. Since then Earth Gov has been stuck in political debates over whether to send a rescue team with a warp drive or whether it’s too risky. Humanity was left reeling at the loss of such a potential breakthrough.

You awaken in your quarters upon the Heimdall, a routine company surveillance ship, patrolling supply lanes with long range scanners to act as a security and rescue force. You scratch as your stubble and sit upright in the chrome room, third day in space in a row, stretching you look in the mirror
“Come on john” you think to yourself, trying to build motivation for the day ahead.
You leave your quarters and almost bump into a short girl, with equally short mousey brown hair.
“Ah jeez sorry Lizzie” you say smiling, still feeling half asleep.
She throws you a sassy smile “Typical Dallas, you never look where you are going or what you are doing” she shakes her head laughing softly to herself.
“Shut up” you smile at her, as she walks past you, keeping pace at her side down the metallic corridor.
“You’re late anyway” she says “Someone’s gotta keep those machines running and I’ve been flying solo for the last 4 hours! It’s been bloody boring”
“I don’t sleep well out here” you say, gazing down the corridor “I should probably eat something” you mumble
“Well be quick” she snaps playfully, as you both stand at an intersection, one corridor leading the way she is turning, the other turns left to the mess hall.

You turn to Lizzie “I’ll be right there let me grab some fuel”
She smiles at you and walks off down the corridor, you turn on your heel and head towards the mess hall. You run a hand through your bed head hair, before pushing the button to open the sliding door. You step into a large cylindrical room filled with tables and appliances. Sat at the table ahead is Kurt, a large burly man, sporting a fiery orange beard, next to him is Michael an older man, lined face with short brown hair that has begun to grey.
“Mornin’ John” Kurt shouts across the room at you with a mouth half full of what looks like croissant.
“Hey Kurt” you nod, grabbing a packet of dehydrated sausage and egg.
“Keep it down Childs” Michael says smiling wryly “Whole damn ship can probably hear you”
“Don’t you know Mikey, in space no one can hear you shout” he laughs, putting an arm around the older man, while his free hand shoves more carbs into his mouth.
You pull a chair up across the table from the two, and begin to slowly dig into your meal, the food isn’t all bad but its nothing like planet food, dehydrated and space foods always taste artificial.
“So any idea how far away we are from civilization?” Michael asks
“I just keep the machines running doc, I don’t handle any of that” you mumble through a mouthful of sausage.
Michael is about to respond when the Intercom system clicks on “All crew to report to the bridge immediately”
You sigh, putting your food down as Kurt gets up “Finally some excitement” he grins “Pirates? I bet you its pirates” he says at you almost in challenge.
“Come on man its probably just another distress call, ship lost its cargo or needs repairs, 9 times outta 10 thats what it is” you say getting up
“Captain wouldn’t be calling all of us up for that, I bet you 50 credits its pirates” he bellows as he leaves the mess hall with you in tow
>>
>>1278289
A couple of minutes later you find yourself entering the Bridge, large enough to comfortably hold the whole crew, all 8 members present. Captain Isaac Wright is standing at the head of the ship, his silhouette surrounded by the darkness of space and the glistening of hundreds of stars. His strokes the 5 o’clock shadow on his chin before addressing the room.
“Ok, a few minutes ago we picked up a distress beacon” He says calmly yet with a certain authority.
You turn your head slightly making eye contact with Kurt, he look back as a smug smile spreads across your face.
“Seemed pretty routine, but the ship wasn’t responding, we also found the numbers 10:28 encoded in the broadcast” the crew eagerly listens out of curiosity
“So David here calls it in to the company, and thats when shit got interesting, they have contracted us with not discussing this “rescue” mission”
The crew mutter in confusion before Isaac interrupts
“We are the nearest ship for thousands of kilometres so we get first picks... oh and also, They also believe going off the encoded numbers and the ships broadcast that it’s the Hermes”
The room falls silent again.
“So i want you to get prepared, get everything you deem necessary, we cant fuck this up, and if we pull it off it’ll be the biggest payload of our lives” Isaac smiles, showing his teeth and nods to the crew “Any questions?”

Anything to arm ourselves with?
>>
>>1278306
You raise your hand
“Captain Wright, what are we expecting? Do we need to arm ourselves?”
The captain meets your eyes “I have no fucking idea, the company is keeping hush hush on the details but i think its best to be prepared for any and all possibilities, I want you and Elizabeth to bring any tech you have, we don’t know what kind of security they have or if any of their ship is bust up” He turns to Kurt
“Kurt i want you to arm yourself, as security officer i expect you to be prepared, got it?” Kurt nods patting his sidearm.
“I want bio scanners and survival equipment to be brought too” he addresses the rest of the crew “Now go get your shit” he turns around looking back into space.
You and the crew disperse throughout the ship, getting dressed and gathering supplies. You and Liz enter the engineering supply room.
“Nervous?” she asks as she bumps into your with her shoulder
“A little, but its exciting” you say watching her stroll into the room.
“Captain Wright is right” she laughs to herself bouncing into the room “This could be the biggest haul of our life!”
“Just stay cool” you smile
“Well we cant carry everything so lets split what we need” she says turning around “Lets take what we can, whatever’s wrong with that ship, we can fix it!”

You suit up in a safety harness and hydraulic pump action grappling hook, grabbing the cutting tool and multi wrench and equipping them onto your suit. Liz watches you attempting to strap the harness on while she picks up the Welder and Electro tool.
“Ready cowboy” she winks
“Lets go fix us up a ship” you grin.
You both exit the supply room and stop in front of Ellen Shaw, a slender woman with a long black ponytail and somewhat tanned skin and the Navigations expert. She raises an eyebrow at you both.
“Whatever you two were up too I don’t want to know” she says plainly
You tap at the tools you are carrying “Got anything helpful for us yourself Ellen?” you ask, tilting your head slightly. She produces a suitcase styled object filled with spherical machines.
“Mapping droids” she states “They’ll pulse and explore and feedback a scanned and echolocation image of the ship, I’ll link them to Michaels Bioscanner so we all have a better idea of whats what” a faint smile creeps into the corner of her mouth.
“Well let’s go then!” Liz pipes up excitedly. The three of you continue down the chrome corridor, you stop briefly, seeing something in the corner of your eye, something moving behind you?
You turn around to a silent metallic tunnel, no figure, no nothing.
You shrug and continue with the women. Meeting back up at the bridge fully equipped the team chatters and murmurs amongst themselves for 10 minutes or so until a ship enters view. It’s massive, significantly bigger than the Heimdall. The crew remain silent as you approach until David begins attempting to broadcast the ship. As far as you can tell the lights are all off, the ship itself is a behemoth of metal and lights and state of the art tech.
“This is the Heimdall, requesting permission to dock” David states into a mic, suddenly one of the screens blares on, with fuzzy audio
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dZYz3aC_VjM

The blurry video seems to be someone’s face talking into the camera but the audio is dim and the picture abysmal. The crew sit silently watching the screen loop a couple of times before it shuts off. The hairs on your neck and arms stand on end, staring at the dark and silent juggernaut floating in the blackness of space. As your ship gets closer you can make out words written on the side of the ship ... “Hermes” this breaks the silence and everyone breaks out into celebration at the news that this is the biggest find they’ll probably ever have. However it just makes you more uncomfortable with the whole situation, how did it get here?

Isaac turns to the crew “This is it ladies and gentleman, Mr Miller, take us in to dock with the Hermes, David I want you to stay here and contact the company, tell them we have what they’re looking for and are going in to secure any survivors” David nods as Justin Miller, the pilot, arcs the ship around.
“Justin, David, any urgent information i want you to contact us immediately and be ready okay?” The captain says. The two men nod and continue their work.
“Well then, that leaves me, Dallas, Shaw, Weaver, Henriksen and Childs” He smiles at the group “Ready boys and girls” he yells, slapping the railing with his hands.
Everyone cheers enthusiastically as a loud thud shakes the ship. The docking arm presses into the side of the Hermes and a tunnel is pushed to connect to two ships. You and the group make your way to the air lock, putting on your pressurised air tight suits.
“Guess you owe me 50 credits” you jest with Kurt
“Boy if this really is the Hermes, ill give you 500, we are gonna be rich” Kurt laughs putting his helmet on.
The airlock opens are you all step into the docking tunnel. Ahead the air lock doors for the Hermes remain silent and dark. Isaac steps aside gesturing with his hand “Your expertise is required Dallas”
You step forward with the cutting tool and begin to slice into the side of the hull. Sparks and a hissing sound pierce the silence of the docking tunnel. You keep cutting until the door slides open automatically. The inside of the ship is dark, almost as pitch as the space it sits in. You and everyone else click your head torches on, illuminating the metal interior. It seems air tight inside as you hear the ominous sound of ambient space and the air conditioning fill the empty darkness.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gpvznAiKblU

Stepping out of the airlock you all enter a dark corridor, completely empty of tools and people.
“Ellen if you wouldn’t mind, map this place out” The captain asks
“Pleasure” She opens the case and 4 of the spheres roll across the ground, occasionally giving a short blue burst of sonar. They disappear into the bowels of the ship.

Don't wanna re-read the whole thread before replying or I might be late but was tehre any talk of splitting ourselves up prior to this?
I mean we're boarding a vessel that's gone missing after entering orbit of a world with an alien civilization and is not -apparently- deserted.
Splitting up does NOT sound like a good idea. Can we make an argument against doing this?
Staying within the limits of a subordinate crew member that is (you know the drill "With all due respect", "I will follow the orders given, but may I voice some concern" and all that).

If we are splitting up, of course we're staying with Liz.

Kurt nods to the captain “Sir I’ll escort the engineers, hopefully we can get some lights on in here” he says uncharacteristically professionally.
Isaac nods patting at a side arm he is “Keep that handy Kurt” Isaac jokes, as Kurt pulls a rifle from his back harness. “Ok Doc, Ellen you two are with me” The trio disappear down the pristine corridor, their lights bouncing off the cold quiet metal.
“Engine rooms gotta be down this way” You say confidently from your memory of the ships general appearance.
“Just make it quick” Kurt says “This place needs lights again” The three of you walk down the silent tunnel, footsteps echoing into the dark. You eventually reach a room, the doors slide open perfectly allowing you to enter. Its dark and filled with tables, the Hermes mess hall or rec room perhaps.
“Where is everybody?” Liz asks feverishly
“Sucked out an airlock?” Kurt suggests “Or maybe some aliens got them” he sniggers
“Shut up kurt” Liz protests
A loud clang interrupts the silence, causing the three of you to jump and look up towards the vent. No dust has fallen and it appears still. The whole room still obscured in darkness aside from the torches emanating from your helmets.
“Metal cooling?” you laugh, trying to reassure yourself more than anything.
You continue through the room, no cutlery or food is at any of the tables or anywhere to be seen. Upon entering the next corridor, Kurts radio blares on.
“Kurt we need you up here” Isaac says before the radio turns to static
“Well fuck” laughs Kurt “Captains orders...”

Kurt looks back through the mess hall
“Your call Kurt” you say shrugging, he looks apprehensive but laughs it off
“Captains orders John, gotta follow the boss man” he chuckles uncomfortably to himself
“Just keep in touch okay?” Liz says as she looks around anxiously, he pats her on the shoulder and grins “Don’t you worry darlin, sure John will look after you” he winks before walking off, keeping his bravado as he carefully walks back through the empty room.
“Come on” you say smiling, let’s get this ship running again, she nods in agreement and you both continue to the back end of the ship. You continue to heavily plod through the black corridors, metallic thumps echoing off the walls, as you and Liz try to keep each other’s spirits up. You both round another corridor and lining each side of it are 3 doors, all unlocked, all filled with beds and bathrooms. Peering cautiously inside you notice all the beds are made perfectly. Nothing is out of place and still no sign of the crew, no clothes, no shoes, no food. Feeling extra anxious you and Liz very slowly walk down the row of rooms. After passing you reach a sign above you “Engine room” with an arrow pointed ahead, down a long and silent corridor is a door, assumed to be engineering. However you both freeze as in the centre of the corridor is a flashlight, and it is on, facing down another corridor that intersects halfway down, unable to see down the corridor from this angle.

We don't really have to tell Kurt anything other than perhaps "See you later."
We don't have any authority to tell him not to obey the Captain and he doesn't really need our permission.
If we don't want Kurt to go, the only reasonable thing would be to motion for him to wait and call the Captain to object to making our party even smaller and less secure, but he knows what he's doing and that's unlikely to change his mind, not when we don't have anything to inform him of that would make a difference.

So bye Kurt.
Let's look at the bright side: we're alone with Liz. Keep it natural though, don't want to creep her out.

Alright then, dropped flashlight still on or engineering room.
It's the future on a top of the line ship, who knows how long lights can go before running out of power. We have no reason to suspect that it's anything more than just a tool carelessly abandoned while still on.

I say we ignore it and go to engineering.

“Probably just got left on?” Liz says anxiously, in an attempt to comfort her you nod in agreement although you are feeling increasingly uneasy. You both continue towards the flashlight although you do not feel comfortable interacting with it, upon reaching it you peer down the corridor its facing. Illuminated is a long metallic tunnel looking much like the rest of the ship you have explored. The metal shines and glistens as the corridor bends round the corner out of sight. You move past the flashlight and attempt to slide the door open, although it seems locked shut.
“Go on then hot stuff” Liz says sassily stepping back
You pull the cutting tool out and light up the door as sparks shower the floor, after a couple of minutes you stand and kick one of the doors, it comes free of its frame and falls slowly, impacting the floor, The ground shakes and a loud clanging thud reverberates through the room.
“Jesus” Liz laughs at the noise
“Come on lets get this ships lights back on” you say stepping into a large room. Several metres tall with another floor and almost the size of a football pitch, giant machines lay still in the darkness against the metal belly of the ship.
“Ok lets find which ones power what, give them a jump start and get this sorted” Liz says spinning her Electro tool in her hand, other hand resting on her hips, all she was missing was blowing a bubble of gum and a grease stained face. You smile at her and move forward, kneeling at the mouths of one of the giant plated power engines. You produce your wrench and begin unscrewing parts of the machines plating to find out what the internal issue is. Liz moves off to inspect one of the other nearby machines as you work. You strip the outer layer of the machine and begin prodding around inside its organs. Lizs headlight illuminates the machine from behind you as you work, overlapping with your own torch.
“Just gonna stand there and let me do all the work?” you asked laughing. As you pull yourself out from the inside of the machine.
“Im busy!” She says defensively. Her voice came from your left, you turn your head sharply and see her stood several feet away checking out a machine. You turn around to the source of the light. Behind you in the corridor the Flashlight is now facing into engineering. Your blood runs cold.
“Did you do that?” You stutter
Elizabeth looks over “Do what?” she sees the beam of light coming in through the cut door hole “What the fuck John, this isn’t funny” you says noticeably afraid.

She laughs but that may not have been our smartest move. If there's anything hostile onboard, it now probably knows our general direction.

Much as I'd like to comfort Liz, I'd rather not lie to her when we don't have any clue who did that and why.

I suggest the following in this order:
1 We tell her it wasn't us and that she's right, this is definitely no laughing matter.
2 Suggest her she keeps trying to fix the machinery while we take a look outside, reassuring her that we won't move anywhere past where she can see us by just turning around (i.e. just outside the door)
3 Cautiously proceed to do exactly what we told her we would. Approach the door slowly and quietly and brandish whatever tool is best fit to be used as a weapon.

You stand transfixed at the doorway, Liz walks up next to you shoulder to shoulder.
“I didn’t do this, i don’t know how it moved, Kurt pulling a prank maybe?” You suggest trying to appear calm
“I don’t like this John” she says hastily.
“Listen ive pulled that machine apart, you should be able to jump start the engine with your electro tool, im going to go and see who moved the flashlight okay? I won’t go out of sight” you say reassuringly.
“Promise?” she asks sternly
“Promise, turn around and ill be right there” you smile to mask your adrenaline rush.
She nods and kneels down at the machine, getting to work. You turn back to face the light. It’s a blinding white that is singling you out in the darkness, everything around and behind the light is pitch black, your eyes struggling to see anything past the brightness being shone directly into them. A few metres behind you, you can still hear Liz tinkering away with the machine and powering up her tools. You cautiously step by step, approach the light until it is shining just against your shins, your eyes readjusting to the dark. You calmly pick it up and shine it down back where you came from, as you do a flash of blue light draws your attention down the unexplored corridor. On the floor rolling past is one of the mapping droids. Could it have knocked the flashlight? It rolls past and into the engine room with Liz, you turn around and follow it when a flash of light in front of you and Liz silhouettes her. The engine she was working on roars into life, a single light in the engineering room springs on but from what you can see the rest of the ship remains dark.
“John?” Michael calls in over the radio “I don’t mean to alarm you, but my bio scanner has picked up 5 signatures close to your position, and they aren’t us, crew members, out of the room you are in and to the right” the radio cuts out
“Go check it out, but be careful you got it? Someone maybe have sabotaged the ship, don’t risk your lives” Isaac calls in after Michael.

Ah, by reconvene he meant they'd be coming to us? I thought we'd establish a spot to meet, either halfway between our positions or back where we first boarded.

Our problem now is as follows: radiocommunications clearly can't be trusted. It's not like the previous call requesting for Kurt to go back to them was any less believable than the current one.

Given the situation, it's entirely possible that NO ONE is coming or even knows we need support.
It may be akin to mutiny, but I say we go back to the airlock we docked at (so we can see that the ship's no longer connected to anything and despair properly, right?)

I wouldn't even radio this to the Captain because again, communications are evidently compromised and we could be told in no uncertain terms to not do precisely what we need to do to survive.

Of course, because this could very well be mutiny, we'll share our thoughts with Liz and ask her if she agrees that we should go back, or would rather wait and hope that somebody does show up.

“Come on, let’s wait her for the crew, while we’re here we might as well try to fix this place up” You say, trying to keep her busy.
“If this is a joke I’m going to kill Kurt” she laughs forcibly through her anxiety.
You stand protectively over her handing her tools while she works on the engine in front of her. The room is dimly illuminated now by the one light above, if anything making it feel creepier by casting long shadows across the floors and walls. You sigh tilting your head back and staring at the walkway above, the sounds of the engine humming throughout the room. As you look up, you swear you can almost make out a figure standing on the walkway above watching you. You squint your eyes staring into the dark corner of the room. When a sudden noise interrupts you and you spin around

“H-hello?” a voice cries, then laughs to itself from outside the room in the flashlight corridor, it doesn’t sound like any of the Heimdall crew.

Footsteps patter towards engineering “I .. I think... Please help me” he sobs.

You pull out your wrench and grip it tightly in one hand while your other holds the cutting tool. The man suddenly stares up at the corner of the walkway above, looking fearful, he crawls backwards on his knees slightly, his mouth wide open in terror, transfixed by the shadowy walkway above.

Obviously gone mad and probably dangerous. I realize, and probably so does our protage, that there IS something on the walkway, and whatever it is, seems to have this guy spoop'd.

What's worse, the thing up there knows that we know this too, since we've been staring at it rather intently.

At this point, before anything else can happen, I think our best is to take advantage of this guy's momentary distraction and run past him our of the room, possibly towards the airlock we docked at.

If we do this, first we whisper in Liz's hear (literally pressing our lips against it) "we run". Can't give her more detailed instructions without it being too risky.

Realising you have a moment to escape this nightmarish ship with the man distracted, you lean backwards towards Liz, as close as you can you whisper to her
“We run” she looks shocked but nods bravely
The man begins to laugh and looks down at the floor, at this moment you grab Elizabeth’s arm and pull, she stands up and you burst forth from the darkness. You sprint forward for the hole cut into the door, your footsteps heavy on the cold metal. Directly behind you Liz is following, sprinting as fast as she can, you can hear her crying now. The man looks up, screaming at your figure before a seeming moment of clarity.
“PLEASE TAKE ME WITH YOU!” he shrieks hysterically
Still clutching at whatever is in his hand he pushes himself to his feet as your sprint past, he throws an arm out at Liz grabbing her suit. She screams fearfully as he begs, spinning around she loosens his grip on her and continues to follow you. You both run back into the darkness, your torch lights barely illuminating the corridor before you. The previous silence pierced by heavy footsteps and maniacal screaming echoing from behind you as the man gives chase. You round a corner leading back into the mess hall, you turn back to see Liz a few steps behind you, and sliding around the darkened corner behind her a screaming figure, stumbling rapidly towards you both. You lunge into the mess hall, your torch casting long screaming shadows into the room, the tables all set with knives forks and plates neatly. As though ready for a feast. The door at the end of the hall whooshes open and three bright lights flood the room, blinding your eyes, three figures hurry into the room in front of you.

Author I'm a bit confused by the topography of the room we're in and its access points. Could you draw us a quick map before we decide what to do? Showing us the shape of the room, the doors and our position as well as that of the guy chasing us and the unknown figures?

No problem!

So we came from the south and the unknowns are in the north.
What's the tunnel?

Anyway we're trapped in the middle of three unknown individuals and a crazed desperate one.

I'd say we take our chances with the nuts. Return to the corridor we left behind and scream at him to stop at a safe distance if he wants our help (then we talk to him).
If he doesn't stop running at us, we're mentally prepared to take a swing at him.

You turn on your heel in the dark room, your head light bouncing off all the sets of cutlery, sending reflections of dim light sparkling across the dark metal interior. Liz runs through the door behind you and you look back to the approaching lights, now signalling you and Liz out in the room
“John!” She cries as she catches up to you.
You pull her against you, gripping your wrench tightly in the other hand. From behind you the crew man crashes through the doorway screaming.
“STOP!” you shout sternly as he lumbers towards you shaking.
He runs towards you in a panicked mess.
“STOP NOW!” you shout, raising your fist.
“HELP ME!!!!” he cries back lurching into your view.
You swing your fist forward, connecting with his jaw. He spins slightly falling backwards and landing hard on his side and knocking plates and glasses off one of the tables, still crying he curls up on the floor at your feet.
“Please... kill me” he stutters, shaking on the cold metal, still clutching a small object.
Behind you the lights illuminate the scene as the three figures approach.
“Dont go running off John” Michaels voice pants “I’m too old to be chasing you around”
You turn around to see Michael, Isaac and Ellen stepping into the vision of your head light, they move forward to a visibly shaken Liz. She steps back defensively, seemingly cautious of your would be rescuers.
“Liz are you okay?” Ellen asks sympathetically.
“I don’t know” she sighs, calming down slightly.
“There’ll be time for that later” Isaac interrupts “John you found a survivor?” he questions looking at the babbling shaking man on the floor.
“I-i guess so?” you mutter unsure, standing up to address the captain.
“One down, four to go” Michael says waving his bioscanner in the air.
The man on the floors breaths become more stable and less rapid, he is still weeping and looks up at the group of strangers above him. A small laugh escapes his lips and he idly flicks a fork across the floor.

First off, be wary of that fork, it's bound to end up in someone's neck at any moment.
Then

although I'm not 100% sure this is really our crewmates we are dealing with. Between the survivor's titter laugh and Liz's unexplained discomfort (rather than relief), something may not be as it seems.
So let's not relax too much.

Still, we can't go assuming "ohnoes, doppelgangers!" just yet. Until we have some evidence, it is reasonable to believe these our our crewmates.

Once we are done with our report, I recommend we go look for Kurt, without splitting up again (that is to say, I would have us recommend this to the captain. Respectfully, of course).

You look to the man on the floor, his messy blonde hair almost covering his eyes, his periodical laughs and cries unnerve you. You turn to the captain.
“Captain Wright sir” You address him as he turns to you.
“We heard what sounded like you requesting Kurt, he backtracked and we haven’t seen him since. We did however find the engine room, we managed to fix one of the engines but it didn’t seem to do very much” You continue.
“What about the rest?” Isaac questions.
“We were working on it when we were interrupted by this man” you point to the man on the floor “He was behaving erratically and potentially dangerously so we attempted to distance ourselves”
Isaac puts a hand on your shoulder, locking eyes with you and nods, then looks down at the man.
“I am Captain Isaac Wright of the Heimdall, we were sent here to investigate your distress signal” He states calmly
The man looks up from the floor.
“I didn’t send any beacon” he murmurs before looking down again “I’m William, and you are all dead” he sobs
“Perhaps I should check him over captain?” Michael asks cautiously.
“We need him back on the Heimdall first, with functioning equipment” Isaac responds
The crew nod in some sort of agreement.
“Sir with all due respect we need to locate Kurt, he has been missing on this ship for over fifteen minutes with no radio contact” You try to say with some authority
“We need to get this man back to The Heimdall first” Isaac orders “You can go looking for Kurt by yourself if you want Dallas but i’d rather this was a team effort” He responds
“The tables were empty...” Liz mutters
You all turn around to look at her, turning your head from side to side at the mess hall.
“When we passed through here earlier, the tables were empty, i want to stick together” Liz mutters again.

Too bad for Kurt, but yeah, we stick together.

Don't see why we can't do both on our way there.

This guy's weird. First wants us to kill him, implying that whatever is on the ship won't let him die, then tells us we're all dead.
>>
>>1283487
what would you like to ask, anything in particular?
>>
>>1283494
Mh, let's see.

"William, listen. You want us to help you right? Well before we can do that, we're going to need you to answer our questions. The sooner you do that, the sooner we can help. But until then, we need you, you see what I mean?"
Hopefully he catches the "Once you talk we can kill you" hint while the captain doesn't. I'm not implying our character is actually willing and ready to kill him off (he doesn't know he's in a Space Horror story), but if it gets us answers we can lie and pretend to be.

"First off I need you to tell me, what is it that you say on that walkway? I could tell there was something but I need to know what."

After he's responded that (whatever his response his), we can ask him about the alien civilization the planet the Hermes orbited and what happened to the ship and crew.

You sigh frustrated, Liz reaches over and strokes your arm reassuringly.
“We will accompany you back to the Heimdall sir” you say regrettably.
“We will find Kurt” Liz says mustering a smile, seemingly comforted by finding the rest of the crew being here.
You smile back and Isaac motions for your help with William. Bending down and grabbing an arm each you and the captain haul the scruffy crew member to his feet. He still clasps one fist tightly onto something he is holding. Ellen notices the man is holding something as well, worried it could be a weapon she speaks up.
“What’s in your hand William?” She asks abruptly.
William stares up at her anxiously, eyes darting around the room. Isaac reaches for his side arm, unholstering it and drawing it slightly although keeping it low as not to alert the man.
“William I need you to open your hand” Ellen orders calmly.
He looks like he is struggling with a decision, sighing heavily and shifting uncomfortably, slowly he unclasps his hand and reveals a small memory drive he is holding.
“I-its recordings of the mission see?” He mumbles “I had to protect it, its its important” he defends himself.
“William i need you to keep protecting it okay?” Isaac says, humouring the survivor “But we need to get you back to our ship to check you over okay?”
William nods and laughs to himself momentarily. You and the crew turn back and head through the darkened mess hall. Torches scattering off the silent dark walls, keeping William in the centre of your group you and Isaac keep a close eye on him, gripping your tools to use if necessary.
You look at him inquisitively and step forward.
>>
>>1283539
“William?” You ask slowly
“Y-you left me” he says
“I’m sorry William, but you want us to help you right? Well before we can do that, we're going to need you to answer our questions. The sooner you do that, the sooner we can help. But until then, we need you, you see what I mean?" you ask.
He stares silently at you rubbing his wrist.
“In engineering you saw something up on that walkway? I think I saw it too” you say
His eyes widen slightly and he looks at the floor
“I need to know what was up there?” You ask
“Tim” he smiles
“Tim? Whos Tim?” You ask confused
“Tim was there, so was the rest of the crew, they were all watching” he laughs awkwardly to mask some other emotion.
“Watching who?” You query
“You, I-I mean some couldn’t watch... because they don’t have any eyes left, but they were there” he says rather calmly, as though describing a dog he saw at a park.
You stare dumbfounded at the answer unsure of how respond. Looking at the rest of the crew, who must have overheard at least some part of the conversation, Isaac shrugs casually moving his attention back to William.

“William, Sol received transmission from the Hermes, pictures of what looked like buildings on the planet you were orbiting?” You ask vaguely
He nods blankly, staring at the floor still.
“Were they buildings? Were there aliens?” you ask almost afraid of the answer
His eyes begin to well up and he looks around frantically again.
“W-we didn’t land” he chokes momentarily before continuing.
“We didn’t want to seem aggressive you know? We s-scoped the place out. PICTURES and video footage” he mumbles tapping the memory drive.
Michael leans in to you “Try not to work him up, i don’t need him freaking out” he reminds you calmly. You nod as you continue through the darkened corridor.
“There were buildings. Giant, shiny ones, black as space. T-There were no lights though...” he sighed.
“What happened?” You ask attempting to sound sympathetic.
“We tried looking closer, the streets, the buildings... they were all dead” he whimpers
“Corpses and skeletons lined everywhere, EVERYWHERE” he cried loudly.
“Its ok William, calm down” Ellen reassures him.
“W-we weren’t boarded? I don’t think?” He mutters “But they got in anyway, so many of them got in, they were sneaky”
You reach a window in the corridor, looking out into the blackness of space you can see the connecting tunnel pressed against the airlock, the Heimdall still firmly docked against the giant Hermes. William springs forth, pressing his face against the glass looking at the Heimdall.
“Its real?!” he cries out exasperated “You’re really here! We have to get off this ship! PLEASE!” He screams erratically, he tries lurching forward towards the air lock before Isaac grabs him.
“Calm down William, i don’t want to have to forcibly detain you” he holds William firmly in place, while the man tries to crane his neck around to look at the Heimdall.
>>
>>1283611
Isaac lets go of him as you all accompany him to the airlock, making sure he doesn’t run off. Realising the ship is currently air tight you assure William he will be able to breathe in the tunnel between the ships. He seems to pay little attention to this as he desperately claws at the sliding doors, trying to free himself from the Hermes darkened insides.
Isaacs radio blares on to Davids voice “Nice to have you back captain any news?”
“We’re bringing a survivor back, he has a memory drive i want analysed” he replies.
David confirms over the radio as you all step into the lit up tunnel to the Heimdall, glancing back into open darkness of the Hermes you feel grateful to be leaving, even if just temporarily. A sinking feeling falls into your stomach as you think about Kurt still lost in there.
“What happened to the crew?” You ask William
“Tim? And the crew? They died, whatever was in the ship, it got them all” he sighs quivering
“Enough for now” Isaac states, as you step into the bright warm halls of the Heimdall.
“Whoever needs to recuperate you have 15 minutes, i want this drive decoded and a voluntary party ready to go back and search for Kurt, ok?”
Everyone nods in agreement.

I know the more interesting and adventurous stuff is going to be happening to those looking for Kurt, but going with the search party volunteers is the cliche choice. The captain takes William aside and begins walking to the bridge with him with Michael following.
“Captain if it’s all the same to you, I’d like to accompany you and William, maybe he has Intel on Kurt” you request.
“Feel free John” Isaac replies, stepping through a door, while making way for the seemingly relaxed William.
You turn quickly smiling at Liz who walks off with the rest of the crew to their quarters, she throws you a quick smile “See you in a few minutes” she says softly as she steps around a corner.
You never realised how much you appreciated a well lit ship before being stuck in the Hermes. Turning back you follow the Captain, Doctor and William to the bridge. Sat in the bridge is Justin Miller, a dark skinned bald man, acting as the pilot for Heimdall, next to him is David Bowmen, the communications officer.
“Glad to have you back team” Justin smiles, bouncing a ball idly on the floor until he captain throws him a stern look. William tentatively walks in behind him.
“Any news Bowmen?” Isaac asks
“Got some good news and some bad news” David groans “The good news is the company dispatched a full salvage crew and rescue crew from Ganymede to take over the Hermes, although we will be credited for our services, they’ll be here in just over an hour”
“Good to know” you say light heartedly
“Bad news?” Isaac responds
“We lost contact with Titan, now no way we can make it to Ganymede or Europa on the fuel we got so we have to dock there eventually” David remarks
“Colony wide blackout?” you ask curiously
“Looks that way, another riot is my bet, big one” Justin says casually
“Riot? Why?” You query curiously
“Dallas here is an earth boy” Isaac smiles playfully “He doesn’t know how bad it can get on the outer colonies”
“Miners and lower class feel like their being exploited and used to further Earth Gov, taxes are too high basically” Justin says
“You think they blacked out all of titan for that?” you ask, surprise in your tone
“Not our main concern right now” Isaac cuts you off “We need to talk to this fine young man” he turns to William.
>>
>>1283849
Isaac pulls out a chair for William, who quickly sits down, looking around cautiously but seemingly more relaxed than upon the Hermes. Isaac asks William politely for the memory drive, he hands it over slowly.
“I-its important ok? Don’t lose it” he mumbles
“David, see if you can get this thing decoded, i wanna see what’s on it”
David nods, taking the drive and plugging it into the ships computer. You, Isaac, Michael and Justin turn to William.
“Do you feel comfortable enough talking to us, are you wounded? In pain? Anything?” Isaac asks.
William nods his head “I-i think im okay”
“You seem to like chatting to my friend here” he gestures to you “You wouldn’t mind answering some more of his and our questions?”
William nods again shifting uncomfortably.

Now to William.
>"Will, let's not waste any more time; before you give us a proper retelling of what happened to you and your crew, let me ask you: are we at risk? Do you know if there is anything we can do to protect ourselves and this ship from whatever happened to the Hermes and its crew?"

It has an interesting premise, but it's not one of his best movies.
>>
>>1283915
*Oh also, he might still have a fork on him (didn't forget).
But let's see what he responds to those questions first.
>>
>>1283968
>>1283915
You lean back in your chair addressing David
“Careful with that thing, some weird shit happened with our radios, and their systems are playing up, could be a virus? I guess? Or something” you suggest shrugging.
“I’ll keep my eyes peeled and quarantine any information i decode” David reassures you
You smile briefly at David, but your smile drops when you look out the front screen seeing the silent behemoth Hermes just floating ominously next to your ship.
Returning focus to William you turn around and engage him.
“William” you say calmly leaning forward.
“Are we in danger? From the crew or anything else?” You ask, attempting to sound as calm as possible.
“Y-yes” he managed to say “We should leave” he mutters into the floor.
“Is there anything we can do?” You ask
“Leave, or hide” he says anxiously.
You nod your head, looking at Isaac, Isaac gestures for you to continue with the interrogation.

“Can you tell us exactly what happened?” still smiling reassuringly, you run a hand through your thick dark hair.
“I told you, w-we saw them, all of them, dead on the planet, it was lifeless” he stutters.
There is a brief silence, you open your mouth to ask another question but William interrupts
“There was one, in the city, alive” he mutters, eyes welling up slightly.
“One what?” Isaac inquires
“I don’t know what it was, a survivor?” he suggest “B-but when we saw it on the footage, it saw us too” he shook in his seat.
“It saw you?” You ask “From the Hermes”
“It fucking looked up, straight at us” he burst
You share a glance of concern with Michael, leaning back slightly in the chair cracking your back.
“What happened? Did it come to you?” Michael asked
“No, we lost it, couldn’t pick it up for an hour, t-then the nurse said she saw it in the store room” he was still shaking
“W-we searched the whole ship, we couldn’t find it, b-b...” he trailed off briefly “But she died, we found her with her insides spilled out” he began to cry, tears dropping down onto his dirty uniform.
“What then?” Isaac asks softly
“T-the ships communications failed, the lights failed, people started disappearing... i.. i hid” he stammers “I don’t know how long for, i heard screaming... laughing... crying, for days”
William trails off crying and gasping for breath.
“That’ll be enough” Isaac says “Michael, take him for an examination?”
You give him a quick pat down to make sure he is unarmed before allowing Michael to escort him out of the room.
>>
>>1284013
The captain exhales loudly, putting his hands on the back of his head
“Whats your thoughts? How much of his story do we believe? Is he insane or did something from the planet get on the ship?” Isaac broadly asks to the crew
“It sounds crazy” Justin chimes in “Until we get something from the memory stick, I don’t think we should trust him”
“Can we be sure he didn’t sabotage and kill everyone on board?” David asks, before anyone has a chance to reply David speaks again.
“You know what’s bugging me? The numbers encoded into the distress call, they don’t mean anything to me, I’ve checked the out, they don’t seem to mean anything, 10:28, unless its some higher up secret code for something im stumped” he says spinning in his chair
“He said earlier he didn’t send any distress call” you state
“True” Isaac responds “However Michaels Bioscanner picked up several other signatures from near your position, why didn’t they come with William?”
“Prisoners? Or maybe they are lost?” Justin says unsure
“Either way I want a team to go back in, I’ll lead it personally, i want to find them and find Kurt, David and Justin i want you to stay here and keep tabs on William, John do you want to come with?”
You look down awkwardly “I don’t know if its a good idea to go back in the ship sir”
“I wont force you John” he says before getting up “But you would be appreciated”
He stands up before leaving the room. You decide to leave the room as well and return to your room to go over everything that has happened in your mind. You open your door and lay on your bed, exhaling heavily you rub your hands over your face.
Outside you can hear multiple crew members getting ready to re-embark the Hermes, your door slides open and liz pops her head in.
“Thank god youre still dressed” she giggles before becoming serious “You aren’t coming with?”

Wish I could have answered that. Would have gone with something along the lines of "Does it matter? Whatever happened back then, something is clearly very wrong right now."

Anyway,

You sit upright, a tired smile spreads across you face at her; you pat the bed next to you. She eyes it cautiously in a playful way before coming in and shutting the door behind her, surprisingly spy for the recent events.
“Liz” you sigh, as she strolls over and falls into place on the bed.
“That ship... I don’t know, i have a bad feeling about it” you say shaking your head
“I know it wasn’t much fun in there, but Kurt is missing, we can’t leave him there?” She says almost perplexed.
“I dont want you going either if im honest, I thought I felt something in there, I don't think we're prepared to deal with this” you say making eye contact before continuing
“I think it’s dangerous and well you’re the last person on this ship i want to see anything happen too” you say placing a hand on her thigh.
“I can look after myself” she sighs “I didn’t enjoy my time on there anymore than you did, but this time we stick together and do things right, Ellen has the place mapped out better” She says attempting to reassure her and you.
“I want to find Kurt, I honestly do, but I think we should wait for the Salvage and Rescue Team”
She stands up, closes her eyes and sighs lightly, turning around she places a hand on the back of your head “Stay here if you want John, but i’m going to find Kurt” she smiles sympathetically before waltzing to the doorframe.
“Please be safe” You plead
She smiles giving you a wink before leaving out of the door, it quickly and quietly shuts behind her. You exhale exasperated, your mind racing, trying to process the last hours events and what to do about Liz. Outside you can hear the team moving off, walking down the corridor chatting to one another, Liz, Captain Isaac and Ellen. The voices and footsteps grow distant as they exit another door and disappear into the airlock.
You stand up moving towards your sink, waving your hand over the sensor it sprays cool water into your cupped hands, you splash your face and grip the porcelain sink staring at the water droplets running down your cheeks and chin catching in your stubble. The lights blink momentarily as the tap begins sputtering, before everything settles back into place. Still anxious from the ship, every little thing is coming across as a bad omen at the moment.

Well we tried. Liz made her bed, now she'll have to sleep in it.

I say let's go see how David is going with the data William gave us. If there's no progress yet, we can go talk to William instead. He told us everyone died but there are details he must have omitted considering he clearly knows the crew is still around in some spectral form and evidently doing things with the ship.
There's also the amtter of why, when we fixed engineering, power was not routed the way we expected it to be, does he know anything about that?

Just caught up on this quest, I really don't like how people have been relying on "genre savyness" instead of playing to the character who showed no indication of being like that. Now we are apparently some kind of sociopath who tried to use a presumably innocent man's pleas for help as a distraction while we ditched him and now we are happy to abandon our waylaid crew mate? Fucking harsh.
>>
>>1288626
No, apparently we are an intrepid action hero who can't wait to get back on a ghost ship.
Also presumably innocent men don't go around screaming like maniacs.
>>
>>1288223
As noted before, going with the rescue team is the cliche route. I think we should stay on the ship, see what else can be discovered from here (did our ship's sensors get any more data on the Hermes while we were in there ficing the engine?)
>>
>>1288626
>No, apparently we are an intrepid action hero who can't wait to get back on a ghost ship.
It's okay to admit you are scared, anon. Just look at Liz, she is clearly scared but still willing to put herself in danger to help a friend, even if it isn't her field of expertise.
>Also presumably innocent men don't go around screaming like maniacs.
Really? Really, really! You are saying anyone who has had a panic attack, anyone who has had a bout of hysteria is guilty of something and beyond help? This is exactly what I meant sociapath, completely lacking in empathy. Maybe even projecting their own hostile tendancies onto others.

Ah guys, the bioscanner!

You gather your wits and the remaining energy you have left and exit your room, Walking into the well lit warm corridors of the Heimdall. You never really appreciated how comfy the ship feels until now. You turn and begin walking towards the bridge, passing the air lock and the connecting tunnel to the Hermes, you glance momentarily through the glass to see the rescue team at the other end, stepping back into the darkness. You feel a tinge of guilt but also some sense of security, you know on some level that ship is bad news, you just wish Liz had stayed.
You press the button to open to doors to the bridge, sliding open David and Justin are sat in their chairs, David looking intensely at his screen and occasionally tapping away, Justin with his feet up on a console bouncing that ball. Justin tilts his head back to see you, he casually bounces the ball in your direction, you catch it as it bounces off the metal flooring and up against your torso.
“Not joining the rescue mission?” He asks
“Something’s not right with that ship” you say shaking your head
“It is a big old spooky cage” Justin says “Wouldn’t catch me boarding it, but we get the same cut either way, this is where it pays to be pilot” he grins
You bounce the ball back to him, he spins around in the chair catching it with 1 hand before putting his feet back up on the console. You stroll through the room and up towards David who is still attempting to decode the information on the drive.
“Anything yet?” you ask, without wanting to sound pushy
“They’ve encoded the numbers 10:28 into this drive as well, still not a fucking clue what it means though” David shrugs “I can only assume its some higher ups code we aint meant to know, seems to short to be anything important though”
“Anything to confirm our guests story?” you ask solemnly
“Well i haven’t been able to crack into any recordings or audio but i did manage to find a log” David replies “Its long and most of its dull day to day running’s of the ship, but it does seem to confirm they found buildings on the surface but no life, after that the log just ends, signed by Captain Timothy Ballard”
“William did mention something about Tim” you mumble out loud, for anyone’s benefit, scrolling your eyes through what little text you can make out on Davids screen. You stand to leave before your radio clicks on, static loudly filling the room, you reach down to turn it off before a voice grunts across it
“Help me...”
Its Kurts voice, albeit distant and almost afraid, but its definitely him. David and Justin turn to you, eyes wide with confusion and anxiety.

You flash a look towards David
“Let the captain know Kurts still alive” you blurt out, picking up your radio and clicking onto it.
“Kurt? Kurt are you okay? Where are you buddy?” You ask frenziedly.
Static fills the air as you stare down at the radio, meanwhile David gets onto communications and attempt to hail Captain Wright.
“Fuck whoever you are” Kurt spits down the radio.
“Kurt its John, Where are you? We are looking for you!” You shout down the radio
“J-john?” he stutters before a screeching echoes through the radio.
The radio shuts off and the lights onboard the Heimdall falter and console screens blink on and off before stabilising.
David still tries on the radio to contact the captain but reaches nothing but silence
“God fucking damn it” David yells, slapping the console.
“Fucks going on?” Justin questions
“Go check on Michael, make sure William hasn’t done something to the ship” David grunts
without a word you turn around and rapidly walk towards the Medical Bay. Passing a couple of sliding doors and walking through a metallic corridor, you heard thumping and screaming coming from inside the room ahead. Rushing through the door you see William on the floor screaming incessantly, beside him a table turned over with tools scatted across the floor. Michael is stood a few feet away trying to calm him down.
“William its ok, you’re on board the Heimdall” Michaels states loudly to be heard over Williams screams.
“WE HAVE TO LEAVE!” he screams loudly scarpering around the room.
“Help me with him John” Michael asks, while moving to intercept.
You and Michael corner William only for his screams to suddenly stop and a calm demeanour to seemingly wash over him.
“We have to get away, we cant stay here” he says flatly before slumping against the wall.
You both grab him and heave him onto a table, his form slumping down on the cool metal. His chest rising and lowering steadily and rhythmically, at least he is still breathing.
“What happened?” You ask
“The lights went out, half my equipment fucking fried and then he just panicked, PTSD or something perhaps? I don’t know what’s wrong with him” Michael says while strapping him to the table
“I think for my own safety at least its best i keep him tied down for now” Michael sighs grumpily
You nod in agreement helping Michael strap the unbalanced survivor down.
“We heard Kurt, he sounds distressed” you tell the doctor
“He’s been lost in an abandoned ship for the last hour, in pitch black” Michael grumbles “Id be a little anxious too”
>>
>>1290118
ou muster a small smile patting Michael on the back and helping him gather up his medical supplies and tools.

You return back to the bridge, with William secure and Micahel following close behind, curious about what is happening. David is listening intently to the ships radio, attempting to pick up anything from the rescue team.
“Da... und someon... N.. KUR...” Issacs voice fuzzes over the static. You all sit in silence waiting for another response
“NOT KURT” Isaac says again before a couple of gunshots can be heard the radio once again shuts off.
“Another survivor?” David questions
“Maybe William was right? Maybe it’s something else” Justin says, he voice fuelled by adrenaline “Either way Im not sitting her any longer”
He begins to strap on his suit and picks up a baton, twirling it in his hands.
“No time to be a hero kid, they were firing shots, you wanna end up getting shot?” David asks him sternly
“I can’t just sit here while they’re in trouble? What if there are other survivors and they’re worse than William? What if it is some sorta alien? They need help” Justin turns to leave the room.
Michael presses his palms against his face “Fuckin kids he groans” as he stands up “Well i cant let him go a get shot, they might need a doctor” he stands up grabbing a medical case and stomping after Justin.

“Aye John, be safe” he nods
You storm out of the room, quickly catching up to Justin and Michael, who are suiting up and getting ready to enter the airlock.
“Guys, I really don’t know if this is the safest option” You plead, exasperated at the current events.
“You think i want go John?” Michael snaps “I’m too old to be doing this space cowboy shit, but Isaac and the others are counting on us and i’ve got my oath to live up too” he responds grumpily
“We could use all the help available” Justin says staying optimistic, locking eyes with you.
“Either way I’m going John” Michael says sternly
You pause momentarily before exhaling loudly.
“Fuck I am gunna regret this” you sigh.
“Kinda relieved” Michael smirks “Could use some good old fashioned pessimism to even out this one’s cheerful spirit” he points a thumb at Justin.
“Lets just get in and out” you say, suiting up.
You all begin to make the journey through the cold tunnel connecting the ships, silence overwhelming any comforting hums you got from the Heimdall. Ahead the blackness filling the doorway into the ship looms closer and closer.
You all flick your headlights on and step one by one into the silent hallways of the Hermes.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DVemWCm_uzE&t=979s
The Darkness and silence is interrupted by David contacting your radios.
“According to what brief information I could glimpse they went left” he says
“Thanks David” Justin radios back before turning left, his relaxed and optimistic demeanour at odds with how tightly he is gripping the baton in his hand.
You pass slowly down darkened corridors, the occasional soft clang making you jump in your skin as it reverberates much louder than it should through the silent ship. After a couple of minutes of walking you arrive at split in the corridor, one leading towards a doorway, the other leading to some sort of crossroad in the tunnels. You flash your light down both directions, each one seeming distant as the flash lights beam dissipates into the distance of them, casting eerie shadows across the pipes and metalwork. Strange noises seem to carry through the empty hallways as you stand there silently trying to make decision about the direction.

You nod in the direction of the corridors, Justin and Michael give a little head tilt in sign of agreement and the three of you proceed deeper into the belly of the beast. Waling through the metal shadow covered corridors you can hear every footstep and breath of your comrades, the total silence and stillness of the ship still smothering your group.
“Gu.. I got som... Footage for you” Davids voice crackles across the radio
“You got some video feed?” Justin replies
“From the Mem... Drive” He hisses through the static.
“The memory drive?” You ask
“Yes, I can pat... it into your head came.. But i don’t think it will comfort you” he mumbles, through the static.
You delve deeper into the ship while receiving Davids message until your head torch flickers off some metal on the ground, focusing harder on it you notice that a large piece of grating has been moved from the ground, revealing a large ventilation duct.
“Hold that thought a minute David” You reply, staring at the opened duct.
You all cautiously approach and lean over, tilting your light down into the vent, it burrows down into the ship for 20 foot or so, too deep to jump down and too deep to climb back out of. A small breeze sends disturbing sounds through the vent and into your trio, causing your skin to goosebump and hairs to stand up.
“You got your harness and hook still” Michael notes
“You suggesting I go down there?!” You say almost laughing in his face
“Just saying if you wanted too check it” Michael shrugs “I wouldn’t personally” he states.
You stare back down into the vent and look around, finding many suitable pipes to hook your harness onto for a controlled lowering, before looking back down the corridor you were following.

You stare back up at Justin and Michael, their faces illuminated by you flashlight, silhouetting them in the dark.
“Yeah fuck that, I’m not going down there” You laugh anxiously
You stand on your feet and turn to continue down the corridor, heavy footsteps rhythmically matching your crew mates.
“David I think its best we have all the information we can, patch the videos through please” You radio.
You all continue silently for several seconds down the cold blackness. On your helmet a small light blinks up and projects a video feed on the inside of your helmet. A grainy video appears, seemingly of the ships telescopic lenses and cameras. It zooms around momentarily, picking up blurry greys and whites before steadying and showing the clouds above an unknown planet. The feed keeps jumping and cutting but its easy enough to follow for now. The camera pans over several small clouds, catching glimpses of the planet below, arid and dark desert and stone, yellowed and brown colours peaking through the clouds. The camera moves once more before focusing, standing triumphantly amid the washed out palettes of yellows and browns are giant pointed towers, completely black, dozens of smaller ones surrounding a handful of even large ones, taller than sky scrapers. These black monoliths stand against the dry background of their planet. The feed cuts for several seconds before restarting, this time much closer, zoomed into the actual “city” below. The streets are empty, no life, no birds, no corpses like William said. Just desolate, no vehicles or anything moves on the surface. The camera continues watching, zooming and changing position across the city in an attempt to gather information. It glosses over a small black smudge before turning back too it. Standing alone in the centre of the street is a figure, as the camera focuses it becomes easier to make out its shape. Humanoid, with long legs, although they seem bent back, similar to a dogs. Its head elongated forward, in either a strange snout or trunk like shape, Its body slightly hunched. As the camera focuses on the only figure to be seen in the entire city, it perks its head; slowly turning it meets the gaze of the camera looking directly into the camera lenses of the ship high in orbit. The feed abruptly cuts to heavy static. Watching the remaining static on screen in hopes of anything else, something in your peripheral vision catches your eye, at the end of the corridor, it look like something moved in the shadows. You glance up quickly raising your head light to illuminate the corridor but nothing can be seen.
>>
>>1290278
“What the fuck was that “ Justin groans
“L-life” Michael stammers “Actual alien life” He sounds like a strange mixture of excited and terrified.
“Davids right” you mutter quietly while keeping your eyes fixed down the corridor “That wasn’t comforting at all”
The corridor ahead splits left and right once more, as you all make a slow approach you hear a heavy clang and a footstep from the right corridor. You all freeze, blood running cold. You decide to try radioing Isaacs team to determine their location, quietly you pull your radio out and click the button, speaking softly into the receiver.
“Captain Wright...” you start, but stop as you hear from the corridor ahead “Captain Wright...” floating silently though the hall. You all freeze, unsure as to whether this is a trick, or what is happening.

Matthew: Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell.

Luke: "You have answered correctly," Jesus replied. "Do this and you will live."

John: I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand.

Proverbs: The prospect of the righteous is joy, but the hopes of the wicked come to nothing.

You glance worriedly at your comrades, before cautiously trying the captains radio again.
“Captain” you say, as you hear your own voice echo from the right corridor ahead.
“Thats the Captains radio? Why isn’t he responding?” Justin hisses
“Dont assume the worst” Michael comforts him in his own way.
Your group inches forward, very carefully, you especially after seeing movement in the tunnels. Each footstep is slow and careful to make as little noise as possible, your breaths becoming heavy in the stillness of the air around you. You exhale slowly and take a deep breath before turning your head around the corner. The corridor seems empty; you step out into the junction flashing your light down in the direction of the radio you heard. Lying on the floor is a cracked communications radio, the one belonging to Captain Wright. You slowly approach it, picking it up carefully, apart from the crack across the front of it, it doesn’t seem in bad shape, but where’s the captain?
>>
>>1290319
You stand up and turn around to confirm to your team what you have found. As you turn the light bounces off three people. Michael closest to you, Justin behind him, and stood inches away from Justin is a tall middle aged pale man. A scream pierces through the corridor as a flash of metal enters your view, the man cracks a pipe over Justin’s head, causing him to drop to his knees and face. The mans clothes are torn and stained, his eyes wild and his mouth opened wide, still screaming, he begins sprinting forward, shoulder barging Michael into a wall. Michael crashes into the wall, winded by the shove. The man leaps onto you with frightening speed, saliva foaming in his rabid mouth, he crashes the metal pipe down near your head as you both tumble to the ground. His eyes wide and frantic as he attempts to crush your skull once again, the heavy metal sound reverberating through the hallways, His greyed hair and short beard matted with blood and oil. He raises his hand to deliver another blow, as you pull your cutting tool out and manage to jam it against his forearm, squeezing hard on the trigger. The smell of hot flesh burns into the air as his skin boils and blackens. He scrambles off you quickly, turning on Michael, swinging in a frenzy at him, knocking him to the floor before sprinting back into the darkness screaming, the sound of his metal pipe scraping across the metal walls as he knocks into them. You quickly pull yourself to your feet, Michael doing the same, clearly out of breath. You help him up and run to check on Justin, the back of his head has a wound, split skin pouring a steady but small stream of blood across the back of his bald head and down his neck, pooling slightly near his chest.
“I-i have to get him back to the ship” Michael stutters almost confused “This could be serious” he coughs clutching his chest.

“Help me get him up” Michael sputters between coughs.
You reach down, squatting in the shadows of the Hermes, you and Michael both wrap an arm under Justins, gripping his chest and lifting him up, he is limp and its remarkable how much heavier a human body feels when it isn’t supporting itself at all. You both groan attempting to hold him up. You slowly shuffle back through the shadows carrying your unconscious pilot, his feet dragging across the cold floor as the occasional drop of blood lands on our suit. Aside from Michaels laboured breath, and Justins dragging, the ship is filled with silence once again, which for once you find comforting, unable to hear that lunatic who assaulted you.
“Who the fuck... was that?” Michael breathes
“Crew member? The fucking alien? I have no fucking idea, but we need to get off this ship” You grunt through gritted teeth, bearing most of Justin’s weight, Michael was in way in poor shape, but he was in his late fifties and he taken a hard hit, you want to relieve him of as much of the burden as possible.
You radio crackles to life to the most comforting voice you could have hoped for
“John? John hello?” Liz squeaks sounding panicked.
You fumble with your radio still trying to shoulder your passed out friend. Clicking clumsily onto the receiver, struggling to see anything in the pitch black of the ship.
“Liz?! Liz are you?” You ask overjoyed to know she is still ok
“We have Kurt!” She shrieks down the radio, but sounds more distressed than anything
“Is he okay?” You say between heavy breathes, trying to hold a conversation and carry a human being.
“He attacked u... was crazed, Captain Wri... Hurt, we need you to get the me... bay ready” She cries into the darkness around you.
“Liz, Liz we came looking for you, we are heading back to the ship now, we were attacked too” you shout down the radio
“John?” she asks before her radio turns to silence.

“At least they have Kurt” Michael says trying to calm you down
“It sounds like he hurt the captain” you mutter, shifting Justin’s weight as you move.
“I’ll do... what I can” Michael sighs “Once we are back on the Heimdal... I say we leave”
“Fuck yes” you exhale almost laughing
From behind you somewhere you hear a clang, then a scraping sound. You turn your head momentarily, behind you is empty darkness, but again a scraping metal clang is heard somewhere round one of the corners you have taken.
“ We need to hurry up” you say, shuffling as fast as you can, from behind you the sound of metal scraping along the walls follows you, you even hear a gurgling laboured breath followed by some distorted laughing or crying, you can’t tell which. Ahead your torch illuminates a turn in the corridor you must have previously taken on the way up here.

David officially, however he is reluctant in the role
>>
>>1290368
We should stop and loudly shout at whoever it is that we are here to help. I mean, just because he has laboured breath and laughs maniacally, we can't presume him not an innocent victim.
I'm being facetious, of course.

In all seriousness, I think our best bet is to continue supporting Justin with Michael and hurry as much as we can back to the ship, however we should be prepared to drop him and turn around to confront whatever's coming, improvised weapon at the ready.

Seeing as even Michael is now agreeing to leave once back on the Heimdal, I'm going to ask a technical question ahead of time: how long are docking and un-docking procedures?
Like suppose we undocked and hovered close to the Hermes, then someone radios us that they are at the airlock and want back on the ship, how long would it take us to dock again and let them onboard?
Our character should presumably have a more or less accurate idea of this since it's in his line of work.
>>
>>1290383
>how long are docking and un-docking procedures?

Undocking can be done pretty fast, especially if david has forewarning to prepare undocking, it takes a little longer for the tunnel to be fully retracted but disconnecting can be done within under half a minute
>>
>>1290389
Ok, but I was actually more interested in docking back.
I want to determine how reasonable it is to undock with the intention of docking again if someone does make it back to the airlock.

If it takes a minute or two, it might be a reasonable precaution.
If it takes five or more, it could be seen as pretty much abandoning everyone to their fate.
>>

I gotta say, I like how Michael completely changed his tune as soon as a lunatic with a crowbar jumped us. It's quite realistic that he'd be all "we gotta go help" until shit gets real, then "nope, abort mission so fucking hard!".
And he hasn't even seen any of the supernatural fuckery we have seen.

Michael went full NOPE NOPE NOPE mode. We can convince David to leave ASAP with him on our side
>>
>>1290434
>>1290436
Mh, well in light of that, we could try undocking and seeing what happens.

I doubt it's going to solve the situation because of the previously mentioned flickering lights.
I mean, this alien apparently hopped from planetside to the Hermes, I doubt undocking is going to stop it. Assuming it isn't already chilling somewhere on the Heimdall.
But at least it would presumably prevent corporeal non-alien loonies from getting in.

The question is: what do we do next? I don't think we can just leave with half the crew still on the Hermes (even Michael probably not that deep into nope mode), and the Heimdall is probably already compromised anyway.

Reasonably speaking, we have every reason to believe we are dealing with a civilization ending entity. The most selfless and responsible thing right now would be to find some way to get both ships away from their current cohordinates and blow them up with no thought to our own survival.

If we want to be more selfish, then we can put our hopes on the salvage ship that's on its way to us, but I doubt we'd manage to convince them to take us on board and immediately leave any more than William managed with us.
>>
>>1290450
Wait for the salvage ship at the Heimdall. At least we would not be hit with a pipe by loony former crew members
>>
>>1290457
I suppose we can do that. If we manage to get back.

We'll also have to find something to keep ourselves pro-active with. Something scientific, hopefully.
I think David recovered all data William gave us. Maybe the ship's sensors or the bioscanner recordings can offer some more insight?

Your heart begins to race and you drag as hard and as fast as you, Michael trying to keep pace. Fumbling once more in the icy darkness with your radio you open to all channels and attempt to call the Heimdall.
“David! David we need to prep the disconnect on the tunnel” you shout down the radio heavily.
“The tunne... why?!” David responds
“Damn it, Justins hurt, someone attacked us, you cant let them back on the Heimdall!” You spit aggressively.
“Is Justin okay?” David asks
“The Tunnel!” you yell again
Behind you, you can hear the sound of metal scraping on metal, heavy rasping breathes and bare footsteps.
“J-John id need an order from the captain, im sorry” he says sounding genuinely apologetic
You grit your teeth in frustration, your arm and back beginning to ache, your eyes straining to see as your head light barely illuminates the wall ahead. Michaels breathing becoming more panicked and staggered., your radio crackles back to life.
“Do it David” Isaacs voice grunts over the radio
“Yes Captain” David confirms
“Hope you weren’t thinking of leaving... us here John” Isaac groans in pain over the radio
“No captain” You reply.
You wheel around the corner to see the tunnel in the distance, approaching it is Liz, and Ellen, dragging an unconscious Kurt by his legs, Stumbling behind them is Captain Wright, grasping his lower abdomen and shuffling, they begin to enter the docking tunnel. You and Michael keep dragging Justin through the darkness, watching the rest of your crew disappear into the tunnel. You pass thick glass windows, able to see the Heimdall, lighting the corridor slightly with the Heimdalls hull lights and endless ocean of stars. You hear he footsteps close now, turning around you him again. The pale man, torn clothes, dragging his pipe across the wall, he patters down the corridor at you, stopping suddenly and staring through the windows you passed at the Heimdall. His eyes widen and become more maniacal than before, his mouth hangs open staring at your ship, he sharply snaps back towards you, picking up pace into a full blown sprint down the corridor, his breaths heavy with purpose. You turn back seeing the Tunnel several feet ahead then turn you head over, the man will be upon you shortly.

You let go of Justin just feet from the doorway, Michael struggles to stay upright but steadies himself against the wall while inching Justin closer to the door. Grabbing Justins baton out of the holster you put it in, you lean back, flinging it into the darkness at the approaching man. His pale half naked torso hurtling desperately through the corridor, it connects straight with his face, causing him to spin slightly and stumble. A heavy thump sounds as his head is struck with the object, blood splatters onto the floor in front of him, a beastial scream erupts from his lungs. Behind you Michael has dragged Justin into the Tunnel and is struggling but inch by inch dragging his body across the floor.
“MICHAEL, DISENGAGE THE TUNNEL, TELL DAVID!” you scream into the darkness as you turn around ready to join.
>>
>>1290975
As you spin around your eyes briefly glimpse down the other direction that leads back to the mess hall, something moves in the shadows disappearing from sight. The quick vision is interrupted by a heaving grunt as the man pulls himself to his feet and propels himself towards you once again.
“Affirmative” you hear David confirm over the open communications radio.
You throw yourself into the air lock, grabbing at the hook attached to your harness your loop the wiring and hook through some grating and structural piping inside the tunnel. Behind you Michael is almost at the Heimdall with Justin, you spin back to try shutting the door, as you push them closed, a hand lurches through smacking into your chest. You stumble backwards as the hands begin pry the door open. A beeping sound begins and the sound of clamps muffled by the emptiness of space can be heard. Rushing forward again you grab the doors trying to shut them, the man on the other side screaming and flailing, attempting to force his body into the connecting tunnel. Grabbing at his arm you tear a large portion of what remains of his uniform left, with your other hand you raise your cutting tool and push it through the gap in the door and pull hard on the trigger, the intense heat bubbles into the mans breast, sizzling flesh, he screams in agony and convulses but still attempts to force the door open, raising your hand punch him as hard as you can muster in the face. His wide frantic eyes filling with blood from his head wound as smoke rises from his chest, your fist connects with his face and topples him to the ground. In that brief few seconds you shut the door. Upon closing the tunnel disconnects and you feel a heavy tug on your entire body as you’re pulled into space, being forced in the gap between the Heimdalls proboscis and the Hermes. A quick snap holds you in position as your harness keeps you tethered to your ship. Staring down at the piece of cloth you hold in your hand is the words “Captain” with the name “Timothy Ballard” underneath. Slowly you are dragged back into the light of the Heimdall, turning around in the cold silence you glance back at the window of the Hermes. The mans bloodied face contorted in a maniacal snarl, he watches panting heavily as you pull back, banging his hands on the window and silently screaming, holding eye contact.
>>
>>1290984
Upon re-entering the ship you lean panting against the wall, within seconds you are greeted by a strong embrace, Liz is standing on tip toes with her arms wrapped around you, you place an arm around her smiling, breathing heavily.
“Are you okay?” She asks tears in her eyes
“I’m fine, I think... I don’t know” you sigh, feeling somewhat relieved to be free of the Hermes.
“Did he hurt you?” she asks concerned
“Im fine” you repeat softly “What happened with you are you okay?” you fluster
“Come on, Captain wants to discuss it with the crew” she says, pulling on your arm.
“Isaac is in a good enough condition for that?” You say confused
“Michaels working on him now in the Medical Bay, he’s conscious” she pulls again
You wind through a couple of well lit warm corridors with your fellow engineer, until you enter the medical bay. Inside William is still strapped to a table looking concerned, next to him is Justin, laying slightly elevated on a table with some machine scanning his head. In the centre of the room underneath a light, Isaac lays on a table with Michael hovering over him. The Captains lower abdomen is patched with blood and he looks pale, swigging on some bottle of alcohol, grimacing as Michael pokes around inside him.
“What happened to you Michael” he asks through gritted teeth as Michael pushes a small instrument into his wound. Isaac turns to see you and Liz
“John, nice to see you made back in one piece” he says
“We came looking for you sir, we were attacked, a man, the Captain I believe” You say producing the torn uniform.
William begins shaking and squirming at the sight of it.
“Thats not the captain!” he says with panic in his voice
“We aren’t attached to the Hermes William” you state, this seems to calm him significantly.
“Perhaps it is best you tell us your story Captain, keep you distracted while i work” Michael suggests.
“Very well doc, we went looking for Kurt, we found Kurt” he growls briefly as Michael removes a bullet, dropping it into a pan.
“He had lost it, pulled a gun on us, said I wasn’t really me, fired a shot into my side” he mumbles while Michael stitches the wound.
“I had to hit him with the Electro tool” Liz admits sounding guilty
“Low dose of course, i didn’t want to kill him, just acted like a taser” she continues
“Where is he now?” You ask
“Holding cell” Isaac says sitting upright slowly, prodding gently at his stomach.

Pull back a distance from the Hermes but don't leave the area, we might be able to get more assistance and information from the team following us

First off, I'd ask the Captain and Liz if their group was ever divided or if they managed to always stick together.
We have both William and Kurt doubting the identity of people, so if anyone was separated from the others we have to know.

Whatever we are dealing with could be playing mind games with us, so between that and his erratic behavior I would suggest for Kurt to be restrained like William. Even if he's just affected by paranoia he could attack others and endanger the ship when he comes to.

At the very least, I agree we should put considerable distance between us and the Hermes. Possibly enough to fit a couple planets at least.

Once that's all setttled, I'd like to talk to the Captain privately, if possible.

You nod in affirmation of this information
“I would like to speak with him if possible Captain?” You request
“Go ahead John, you two were close, maybe you can knock some sense into him” He grimaces standing upright and limping past you, you stand aside letting him through. The door shuts behind him and Michael exhales exhaustedly moving onto Justin, poking and prodding at tools making sure he is okay.
“How are you Micahel?” Liz asks innocently
“Shattered” he says, keeping his eyes firmly locked in Justin
“Dont push yourself too much” you suggest, opening the door to leave. Liz follows quickly behind, leaving Micahel to his medical work.
“Be careful with him John” Liz says attempting a stern impression
“I’ve known Kurt a long time” You retort “I’ll sort him out”
“Just be caerful, I think im going to go and rest” she forces a weak smile, stroking the side of your arm before turning around and walking to her cabin.
You turn determinedly to the back end of the Heimdall and head towards the holding cell. Reaching the back of the ship within a minute you enter the room. Sitting behind a row of Reinforced steel bars, Kurt is sitting against the wall with his arms resting on his knees as they are pulled up to be level with his face.
“Kurt?” You question softly
He looks up, his eyes look tired and wide, his hair and beard a mess, ragged and unkempt. He laughs to himself shaking his head.
“Are you okay?” You ask
“Are we safe now?” He mumbles
“Yes” you nod firmly
Kurt looks up to meet your gaze, his hands shaking slightly “I dont know whats real” he says “Are you really John?”
“What? Of course I am Kurt” you reply
“Yeah i though i saw people on the ship, crew maybe” he mumbles “I didnt know if the captain was really the captain you know?”
“I saw someone too” you say trying to relate
“I –i kept getting lost, noises everywhere, something was following me... i dont know whats real” he says dropping his head
“You aren’t getting out of it that easily” You say smiling to yourself “You still owe me 50 credits”
Kurt looks up again locking eyes with you “It really is you John?” he manages a small smile
“I’ll get you out of here soon buddy okay? Just rest” you smile
“I-i don’t wanna hurt anyone again” he says sounding morose
“I believe you” you comfort
“T-theres something or something’s on that ship John, we should leave it well enough alone” he grumbles, clenching his fists “I dont want to be locked up like some rabid animal”
“I’ll talk the Captain around” you smile again before walking away

You return to the bridge to meet with David and Isaac, Isaac sipping at a glass of whiskey leaning back in the captains chair. David still working hard at the memory drive to little avail, he turns his head to nod at you walking in. From the front of the ship you can see a little distance has been put between you and the Hermes, although not enough to comfort you much.
“Captain May I speak to your privately sir” you request
“Go ahead John” he says, standing up and limping over to you, his hand defensively covering and holding his wounded torso. He walks past you to a corner of the bridge leaning against some worktop.

"Thank you sir. I have two things I would like to raise:

I know I have said it before but I think there is something up with that ship beyond a psychologically damaged crew. Something that we and perhaps the company should leave alone.

I don't want to have anything to do with that ship but I know someone will go knocking in that ship for profit or religion or another dumb goal.

So, if we are going back in that...mess of a ship to try and end this or find out more then I want to be armed with something more threatening than a glorified welder or a metal pole. I want a gun, any gun that we can get.

Also, kurt seems stable if shaken. He wants let out, doesn't apparently want to hurt anyone ever again and is not a danger to us. If anything he is a danger to himself. My point is that we should move him to somewhere less...zoo-like. Perhaps the crew quarters if we can lock it?"

Alright then, off to the Captain.

>"Captain, there's some things you need to know, and some considerations that I believe need to be made.
>But before that, to answer your question from earlier, no I had no intention of giving up on you and the others. The plan was to undock but remain in standby to dock again if you managed to get back.
>Moving on. While you were looking for Kurt, David uncrypted the data from the Hermes William gave us.
>If it's genuine, it confirms at least part of his story. The planet they found clearly had a civilization on it. Past tense. There was no movement, nothing. No bodies either though.
>There was the one alien creature though, just like William said, and it did look into the camera spying on him from orbit.
>We obviously can't know for certain... but we can't rule out either that this thing is real and that it could be responsible for the end of intelligent life on that planet.
>And that got me thinking. How did it get there? Perhaps a spaceship from that planet found him on another world he'd already eradicated of all life. It got on board and the ship rushed back to their home planet with the hope that they'd get help there.
>I'm guessing you can already see where I'm going with this.
>If there's any chance that this isreal and that big of a threat, we can't let this get back to Earth.
>It might not have gotten on the Heimdall yet, who knows how this thing thinks and operates. But the Hermes needs to go. We need to find a way to get rid of it, push it into a star, I don't know. Then after that I'd recommend quarantining ourselves and hope that whatever that thing was stayed on that ship.
>Of course there's two problems with that. First how do we get rid of the Hermes when we don't have any real weapons. Secondly, even if we do succeed, there's bound to be legal consequences for destroying the most advanced ship ever built based on what they'll no doubt consider a case of space spooks.
>But if it was up to me, I'd rather go to jail than fail to prevent the end of humankind. >Unfortunately for you my friend, it isn't up to me."

“Well Captain” You start
“I just wanted you to know we had no intention of leaving you, we were simply being pursued and had Justin severely wounded, we didn’t want whatever was chasing us to get back on the ship” you state
“I never really doubted you John” he grins, gritting through his teeth, his hand holding his wound
“Secondly, David decrypted some video files”
“We saw them too” Isaac nods his eyebrows furrowing “I don’t know what the thing in that video is”
“I’m not sure, however if it did somehow get on board the Hermes. It could be what caused whatever happened to the ship” you suggest
“Perhaps” Isaac agrees
“Either way I don’t think we should re-dock, I mean really if we could I think we could destroy the ship sir” you say respectfully
“You know that’s out of our hands” Isaac says, reminding you of the orders “Though Id be lying if I said I didn’t agree”
“I just...” You start before David cuts you off
“Captain, multiple ships incoming fast, we’re being hailed” David comments
The screen in front lights up revealing a well dressed professional looking man, his well kept face shaven and accompanied by a strong jaw, he conveys some sense of authority.
“To the crew of the Heimdall, this is Captain Lawrence Weir, Captain of the Eve, we thank you for your patience regarding this matter. However we will be taking over from here. Due to the sensitivity of this mission we request that you follow our escorts back to Titan to dock, refuel and debrief, we will arrive in little under five minutes”
The transmission ends abruptly
“Well looks like we can blow this joint soon right?” David spins around smiling at you both
Ignoring him you continue “I just think its best we relay the information to someone, probably to the Eve? The ship has something wrong with it, they need to be careful”
“I’ll pass on what I can, but how much of it are they gonna believe?” Isaac says, he eyes trailing off
“Also sir, Kurt seems to have calmed down for now, I understand you might be a little upset personally with him, but i think he genuinely regrets what he did?” you say, trying to bargain for Kurts freedom
“I think its best we keep him under observation until we return to Titan” Isaac says, trying to keep the peace.

I still think we should try to convince the Captain that the alien entity could potentially be responsible for the end of life on that planet and may do the same to Earth, and that he at least needs to consider this and whether to try and get rid of the Hermes before the other ship gets here.
I'll respect his decision if he chooses to do nothing, but he's got to be made to properly think about it.

If he decides to not interfere, then
>Ask the captain to relay certain information to the eve (like what?)
We send the video footage of the other planet we got from William, and a short summary of everything we've learned from him (alien sighted on board, people dying, going insane, becoming murderous, voices being imitated flawlessly over radio transmissions etc.)

“Isaac” you plead “I think we need to stop this ship from getting planet side”
“You know there’s nothing we can do” Isaac sighs
“The creature in the footage, can we be sure it didn’t make it onboard the Heimdall?” You question
“This ship isn’t that big, it would have to be a master of espionage to be on this ship, that’s assuming it even got on the Hermes” he retorts
“I guess... Either way its best to inform the Eve of the current situation” you suggest
“You’re being remarkably level headed after what’s happened John, I’m glad to have you in my crew” he says, squeezing your shoulder “I’ll hail the Eve and give Captain Weir a quick rundown of what’s happened and what to expect”
The Captain walks over to David, mumbling something to him, while you sit back in one of the chairs in the Bridge. The screen turns to static for several seconds before Captain Weir answers.
“Eve, this is Captain Wright of the Heimdall, I would like to present you a quick debrief before you get here, this is after all an usual situation” Isaac begins
“Continue Captain Wright” The commander of the Eve answers
“The ship seems mostly empty, we found no bodies, and only two crew, both seem hysterical, one we have restrained on the ship, the other attacked and nearly killed a member of our crew, he is to the best of my knowledge still secure upon the Hermes. One of my crew was lost on the ship for near an hour and has suffered significant mental stress, he is also secure upon our ship. The crew member we have on board was carrying a memory drive, its heavily encrypted but we did manage to decode some video feed, reconfirming non human life” Isaac explains “We will transmit what information we have to the Eve”
“Thank you Captain” Weir responds “We will take precautions in recovering the Hermes, my ships will escort you back to Titan, do not deter from the course set for you, your ship and the Intel on board is too valuable to risk loss, Eve out” he says cutting transmission.
Seconds later several ships of varying size begin speeding into view
>>
>>1293546
“With Justin out cold” you say coming to a sudden realisation “can we even fly the Heimdall?”
Isaac laughs “Im more than capable John” he says sitting in the pilots seat.
Davids screen lights up with co-ordinates and numbers, suggesting the escort route. Three Valkyrie Military class ships align themselves ahead, behind and above the Heimdall, keeping several hundred metres distance. A voice fuzzes across the ships communications “Heimdall ready to be escorted to the Titan facility?”
No sooner is the message done then a screaming hiss blasts out of all of your radios, the lights begin flickering and although impossible you swear you could almost hear the Hermes groaning, its metal hull twisting in rage. The ship shudders briefly before the power returns, lighting the Bridge back up.
“Shall we leave captain?” David asks

We should point out to the captain that he omitted from telling Weir an important part of the story: the description of the events given to us by William. How the "alien life" was apparently able to get onboard the Hermes unnoticed from planet side, and how it was the only life on what appeared to be a once civilized planet.

“Yeah, lets go with these guys, we’ve done all we can, open up a comms channel real quick though would you David?” Isaac asks
“Yes Captain” David says
The comms buzz momentarily before picking up upon the Eve once again “Eve one more thing, although im sure you will be briefed once we return to Titan, the crew member we have under observation, while not the most reliable source, claims something got in ship. We don’t know what he is referring too, but any forewarning would help in your endeavour” The Captain says.
“Thank you once again Heimdall, please follow the course selected and relax, we have this under control” Captain Weirs voice signs off
“Well now we’ve done all we can do, good luck to the poor bastards” He says regrettably
David and Isaac pull some levers and switches, lighting up their consoles and the ship shudders into movement. The three Valkyrie class escorts move alongside the Heimdall as it begins to pick up speed moving back into the blackness of space, away from the floating metal hulk. You sigh, exhausted you turn walking down the elevated platform through the rest of the bridge and into a corridor. Staring out the window you can see the Hermes beginning to drift away as several other large ships begin to encircle it, even from this distance in one of the windows you swear you can see a figure, standing motionless staring at your ship, you try to focus but within seconds the ship is already too far away to make out any real details. You feel a strange sense of relief wash over you, the more distance between you and that ship the better.

You tilt your head and smile again before leaving. Walking over to your cabin you stop, hearing what sounds like metal scraping across the walls. Turning around to pinpoint the noise you are alone in under the warm lights of the Heimdall, you turn back cautiously and hear it again, your blood runs cold, it sounds exactly like the Hermes captain dragging that pipe across the walls. The screeching stops and silence fills the air, breathing heavily you stay motionless for several seconds before slapping your cheeks lightly.
“Calm down you idiot” you laugh to yourself uncomfortably.
You press the button to enter your Cabin, your door slides open, you step in before almost jumping out of your skin, sitting on your bed is Liz.
“Jesus Liz” you jump “You scared the shit out of me”
She looks awkwardly at you, her face slightly flushed, she moves over on the bed to make room for you.
“John, I don’t want you to get the wrong idea” she says sheepishly “But what happened back there was really frightening for me” her eyes are glossy, almost near tears.
You sit down putting an arm around her and pulling her against you, she tilts her head resting it on your shoulder.
“I just... I don’t want to be alone tonight? You know?” She says
“Its fine” You smile, running a hand up into her short messy hair
“Thank you John” she says embracing you

You wake up, your body grateful for having rest finally, your eyes heavy you look down, Liz’s head resting on your chest, her mouth open slightly, you can feel her breath against your skin. You lay back for a few minutes enjoying the calm, before eventually becoming restless and sliding out from under her. She lays face down in the bed, you pull the sheet up over her bare back to keep her warm and put some clothes on. Returning to the mirror like yesterday you fill your hands with water and splash your face before heading out to grab some breakfast. Bringing back Liz a couple of cereal bars and leaving it on your bed side table for her, you look out of the window in the corridor. A single Valkyrie ship in view still escorting the Heimdall, you stretch and walk your way to the Bridge, to your surprise Justin is sat with David.
“Morning!” You grin at him, he turns around, a lopsided smile on his face, in his hand that damn bouncy ball he carries everywhere.
“Is it morning? I don’t know whats going on” he says, still with some enthusiasm
“Justins been up for the last few hours, took over from the Captain so he could get some sleep” David explains
“You took quite a blow back there Justin are you okay to be flying?” You ask
“It aint as hard as it looks” he chuckles, bouncing the ball your way
“Take it easy man” you bounce the ball a couple of times before returning it.
“Heimdall, this is your escort contacting you, we request you assistance” A voice radios
David clicks on the receiver “Whats the problem?”
“We need to you attempt to make contact with Ganymede or Europa, our communications aren’t reaching them” the voice replies
You all share a concerned glance, David puts a headset on and gets engaged.
“More riots?” you suggest, not believing it yourself
“Three Colony sized riots causing full communications blackouts?” Justin says sceptically “It aint impossible but I mean, what are the odds?”
David sits back in his chair, shaking his head “No contact, repeat no contact” he reports to the escort ships, as he does so the screen fills with static, before the numbers begin to fill up the screen 1526152615261526, repeating until the screen is full.
“What the fuck” David to you both, slapping at his console.
“Received Heimdall, We will be docking on Titan Station in 10 minutes” The escort repeats before cutting out.

So it seems that the spirit / entity / whatever the fuck can only manifest on planets...or something along those lines.

Now would be a good time to run. Preferably to another solar system, without taking it with us.
>>
>>1293843
I think the twist here is that mankind was doomed from the start of the quest. Remember we already had a planet-wide black out in outgoing communications way back then.

Somehow the thing got to the solar system without our help, it seems.
On the plus side, we no longer have to sacrifice ourselves to save Earth since the situation's well past that.

Directly ahead outside the thick plated glass you can see Saturn hanging against the black canvas of space, its rings circling its giant mass. You press down on the receiver in place of David “Negative I would like to request not landing until we get confirmation from the captain”
“Negative Heimdall” the response buzzes through “Deter from your targeted course and your ship will be disabled. We have strict orders”
“Fuck” you slam your palms into the console, pushing yourself backwards “I gotta go see the captain” you storm off
“Ah crap” David mutters, typing furiously on his machine, as more screens fill up with 152615261526.
You push through the corridors and past doorways, until your reach the Captains Cabin. You raise your fist and begin banging on the door.
“Captain, we need you to come take a look at this” you shout
Several seconds pass before the door slides open, standing topless with an arm crossed over his wound, Isaac leans in the doorway.
“Whats the problem?” he mumbles half asleep
“Europa and Ganymede sir, lost contact with both of them too” you repeat the information to him
“Have we tried Earth?” he says concerned
“Not yet sir, the console is malfunctioning, producing numbers, Davids working on it, I attempted to buy us some time but the Valkyries say they'll take us in by force if they have too” he regrettably inform him.
“Well shit” he says waking up and reaching down and picking up his uniform, slowly pulling it over himself.
The PA system rings out through the ship “We’re making entry in thirty seconds boys and girls, its gonna get bumpy” Justins voice says
“I’ll meet you on the Bridge John” Isaac says closing the door
Turning around you leave and quickly head back to the bridge, upon opening the door you can almost see no stars or darkness left, just the background of Saturns gaseous body as in front of you Titan and her atmosphere fill your gaze. You strap yourself down to a chair and hold onto a handle above the seat. The ship begins to jump and shake as the Heimdall penetrates Titans atmosphere.
>>
>>1297102
“Gotta love this part” Justin laughs, shaking in his seat.
The front of the ship heats as thin strips of flame and superheated atmosphere wash over the metal and glass. The ship jerks suddenly as it begins to decelerate, the thick clouded cover begins to part as you enter atmospheric cruising speed. Below in the distance is a giant metal monolithic structure, a mining colony. Housing tens of thousands of men and women, giant docking platforms and spires fill the centre of the colony, with living and working quarters surrounding it. The colony lies amidst a turbulent dark rocky landscape, ice capping the higher peaks of giant stone mountains. The dark blue sky almost mixing into the pitched rocky surface, your ship closes the distance at a slow speed, the Valkyries take the lead before contacting you.
“Follow our lead” One radios
David doesn’t even respond, he looks pissed from the orders and equipment malfunctions. The Heimdall and her escorts pass the docking bays, passing giant Atlas class transport ships, several magnitudes larger than even the Hermes. After a minute you are in view of a large mining operation, a giant sinkhole beneath and several camps and buildings surrounding and filling it. Vehicles and other such machinery litter the landscape below and ahead a large fortified complex big enough to house several ships.
The Valkyries escort you above a large landing platform built into the side of one of the mountainous regions connected to the complex. You unbuckle your belt and stand as the ship begins to descend, suddenly one of the Valkyrie escorts begins to tilt and swerve in the air above you, you stare at it as it spins in the air, a sudden flash from the side of its hull. Before you can even register what is happening the missile from the Valkyrie hits the Heimdall, the explosion shaking the ship and flinging you into the wall, the last thing you see is approaching metal wall before darkness.

You taste blood. Everything is dark. You open your eyes, its not much better, you are laid in a rather expensive looking hospital bed, machines hooked up to your body, monitoring your vitals, you reach your hand up, it feels sprained, pressing your fingertips lightly against your forehead, a bruised lump. You groan, the room is silent aside from your machines rhythmic beeping, the lights in the room flicker and fail, the only source of light from the beeping machines and the hallway outside the double doors. You feel a slight shudder reverberate through the ground and the lights flare back into life, although the occasional flicker plunges the room into darkness. You look next to your bed, your wrench and Radio lay there amidst the usual hospital clutter, as does a glass full of water, you reach over, sitting upright and taking large heavy gulps, soothing your dry throat.

You reach over picking the radio up off the wooden desk, still slightly disorientated from awakening. How long were you out for? What even happened?
You lean forward in the bed, staring down the hospital room, in both directions. To the left of you are two more beds they look empty, across from you are five empty beds, and to the right are two more empty beds followed by the double doors with glass planes, allowing light from the corridors to flood in when the lights flicker out. You cough as quietly as possible before pressing down on the receiver.
“Captain Wright?” you ask in a hushed tone
You are met by radio silence, the rhythmic beeping filling the room constantly, you try again.
“Anyone copy? Heimdall?” you ask quietly, feeling anxious
There is silence again, frustrated you are about to press down on the radio once more when a voice floats across it “Yes Captain Ballard, recording all footage...” the voice sounds distant and unrecognisable. You stare down at the radio confused; did some other signal get intercepted? You grab your wrench and place the radio between your legs on the covers of the bed.
COUGH.
An old short cough from several metres to your left breaks the silence. The lights begin to flicker, as the cough continues. You thought the beds were empty. The lights are failing so frequently now the only real source of light is from the outside corridor. You sit there frozen, confused and dazed, as this disembodied cough continues.

Are we able to stand and step/lean far enough to figure out the source of the cough without unhooking our vital readings?
If so, do it.

You lean forward, cautiously listening to the hacking cough, your head inches around the corner of your curtain and you can see all the beds opposite you in either direction. All empty.
The cough stops, turning to a rasping breath, growling in the darkness of the room. You lean further, the wires attached to your body, stretch and become tight as they reach their limit. Each bed next to you is only half visible, the upper portion hidden by the curtains. The bed furthest away has its sheets raised as though there are legs resting under it. The rattling breath sounds almost as though the person is dying. You pluck up the courage to call out to the hidden figure.
“H-hello? Are you okay?” you ask nervously.
The breathing stops and the legs pull up behind the curtain, hiding the figure completely. The radio begins hissing static and the lights flicker back on. No coughing or breathing can be heard at all now. The radio blares some strange white noise before shutting off.
“Hello?” You call again, unsure if your eyes and ears are playing tricks on you now.
Nothing but silence interrupted by the occasional machines beeping. The lights stabilise somewhat and you lean back again, the bed seems to be completely empty from your angle. You reach down gripping the wrench tightly, seemingly to comfort you to some degree

You know, that's actually far from impossible. Not likely to be the case given the title of the quest but still.

I think it's high time we get the fuck out.
We need to do so quickly (because someone might come check why the vitals are no longer there) but cautiously (checking first to see what's outside the door).

Slowly and quietly peeling back the covers from your legs you drop your bare feet to the cool tiled floor. You stand up slowly, wires pulling at your chest as they beep still monitoring your vitals. The wrench still gripped tightly, you use your free hand to grab all the wires and pull them off your body, the machines that were attached to you begin to beep and flatline, deciding that its best to simply get out of this room you make haste towards the door. Staring through the glass windows present in each door into the corridor you cant see much but it seems empty. A long rasping breath sighs behind you as you reach out for the door, spinning your head around as the hairs stand up on your neck, in the distance behind the curtain where the legs had disappeared is a silhouette, taller than any man, with a bizarre but vaguely humanoid shape too it, reaching almost the ceiling the shadow steps forward against the curtain, pulling it against its form. You turn around, your heart pounding, your head spinning, you crash through the doors and turn left into the corridor, desperately trying to put some distance between you and the room, sprinting down the hallway you hear the door behind you creaking as you left it. You round a corner, still in full sprint and crash into someone. Both of you fall to the floor as the woman screams, dropping some equipment. You look across the floor at a thirty something year old woman, Indian descent most likely, slightly dumpy frame and long brown hair tied back in a bun.

“John Dallas??” she asks rapidly looking at her would be attacker.
“W-who are you?” you question, crawling backwards slightly raising your wrench
“Please calm down!” she implores, pulling herself to her feet “I’m your doctor, your machines flat lined, you had us worried” she steps back cautiously eyeing your weapon
“Where the fuck is my crew” you ask, teeth gritted
“Put the weapon down John” she says trying to mask her fear “They’re upstairs being debriefed by company officials, I was told you would need the same once you came too”
“There was something in my room” you say gripping your head
“You were the sole patient in the room John, you’re likely experiencing auditory and visual hallucinations from your bump to the head, just please relax”
You lower your weapon and wince in pain from the running and the crash.
“You were in a crash, don’t worry you should be fine, all our scans indicate you just needed some time to wake back up, there should be no long term effects, just take it easy” she says reassuringly
“Where is everybody? Where are we?” You ask
“You are on Titan, company medical ward, it’s been... a difficult couple of days” she explains
“Difficult how? What happened to communications?” You press
“The miners, rioted, I think they damaged the comms tower, or caused some sort of blanket over it. Either way we are spread thin, the situation has deteriorated” she says “Either way if you would please follow me I have all your clothes and belongings”
She turns around, picking up the equipment she dropped, her shoes clicking on the floor as she leads you to your belongings. You follow cautiously behind her, your wrench lowered by still gripped tightly. She leads you to what look like men’s lockers rooms and passes you a key
“I’ll let you grab your clothes from here, i’ll be waiting out here” she says smiling at you
“Thanks...” you reach out taking the keys from her hand
You push into the room through the door and look down at the key, the numbers imprinted Floor 2, Locker 26.
Walking up to locker 26 you open it up, inside sure enough is your uniform. You pull the clothes over your body and holster your radio onto your belt. Walking back outside the doctor is now accompanied by a heavily dressed man wielding a baton and side arm.
“Dont worry John” she smiles “Just protocol to have security around in situations like these, he’s going to escort you upstairs okay?” she gestures towards the man
“Follow me” he says mechanically, waiting for you to move.

You nod understandingly and walk alongside the security officer, he keeps one hand on his side arm as you pass through hallways and enter a stairwell, clearly not feeling comfortable around you.
“You were involved in the ship crash?” he asks curiously
“I-i guess?” you say, still hazy on the details
“One of the miners hit the ship?” he says, obvious distaste in his voice
“I didn’t see anything, our escort just flipped out” you reply
“Hmm least your crew is all okay” he says opening a door and holding it for you
He leads you deeper into the compound, this floor markedly different to the medical ward below you. It appears more lavish and comfortable, opposing the cold medical hallways under you. Ahead of you is a set of double doors, ornate and expensive looking, like everything on this floor. The security escort pushes a door open, holding it ajar for you “Mr Carpenter, the final crew member of the Heimdall” he says to a portly suited man sat at a table.
“Come in come in” the man says smiling
You step forward before the security guard places a hand on your chest and stops you.
“Not with that” he says, pointing to your wrench
You grudgingly hand it over to the guard while stepping into the room. The man offers you a seat. Behind him a screen covering almost the whole wall mimics a window of earth, a running stream with large pine trees and birds, beams of sunlight breaking through.
“John right?” the man asks smiling
“Yeah...” you say sitting down on a chair opposite him
“Drink?” he says pulling out a darkened bottle of liquor
“Not much of a drinking man” you say bluntly, confused as to why you are here
“Well suit yourself” he smiles, pouring himself a small amount into a intricate looking glass.
He is a large, but not overly obese man, clearly leading a rich life, he is well groomed, and somewhere in his late fifties, maybe early sixties. Sipping quietly at his drinks glass.
“So lets get down to business, my name is Brett Carpenter, im in charge of this facility and this operation so let me ask you...” he says producing pictures and placing them on the table “You’ve seen these before correct?”
You look down at the photos; they are grainy copies of the visuals you found on the memory stick, giant ancient black structures towering into the skies of that alien planet.
“Yes, I’ve seen them” you say
“These were the ONLY ones you’ve seen?” he says curiously, as your rummage through the pictures
“I think so yes” you say glancing from photo to photo

Where are the rest of my crew?
Why did our escorts shot us?
When can we leave?
>>
>>1298776
>>1298783
The guard didn't seem to know that it was our escort which shot us. So let's formulate our question as both giving and requiring information:
>"Last thing I remember from when I was on the Heimdall was one of our escorts firing on us. You seem to have the data we recovered from the Hermes and transmitted to the Eve. So do you also know what happened on those ship and why they suddenly decided to shoot us down?"

Definitely seconding the "where's everyone else?" question.

I'd suggest against the "when can we leave?" one though. We'll be allowed to leave when they decide so. Showing ourselves eager is only going to make them reinforce security around us.

Rather, let's ask:
"What is it with the planet wide communications black outs?"
He's probably going to back up the doctor's version. In which case we can try to politely insinuate "So, nothing to do with... that?" indicating the images he's just shown us.

You interrupt the mans questioning.
“Wheres my crew” you ask sternly
“Dont worry Mr Dallas” The man smiles “They are recuperating in the lounge, they have all had the same line of questioning and you will be allowed to see them momentarily” he sips from his glass again
“What happened with the escort ship, last i remember they fired upon us?” you question
The mans smile sours slightly and becomes more serious
“We don’t actually know I am afraid Mr Dallas, it would appear the ship lost control, they unfortunately did not survive the crash”
“Sorry” you say contemplating what happened
“The ship shouldn’t have reacted like that, we don’t know if it was a hardware issue, or the crew, we are attempting to locate an issue through the wreckage of the crash right now” he says, smiling once more at you
“However i must ask... Your captain told me you boarded the Hermes” he asks leaning back in his chair
“We did, we were looking for survivors” you say
“And you found two? William, who we have in the other room and one who assaulted you?” he says
“Yes” you nod
“Did you see anything, alien? Anything like the buildings you see in these photos? Could the Hermes have found any sort of technology?” He says seemingly excited
“I didn’t see any?” you mutter, getting almost annoyed with the questions
“That is a shame” he says
“Whats with the communications black out?” You ask innocently
“As far as we can tell, the riots have knocked out some major systems, most unfortunate” he says casually
“Nothing to do with these pictures?” You say pointing to the photos of the alien structures.
“Im afraid I will have to give you this” he says politely sliding you a piece of paper.
“I will need you to sign a non disclosure agreement for the next part” he passes you a pen
“What? What for?” you question
“Unfortunately you have stumbled into something a little more complicated than a ship salvage, this form is of course just official, chances are if you attempted to breach this contract the ramifications could be quite severe” he says shaking his head
“Oh... I see” you say somewhat unsure how to respond to his words
“It’s not a threat Mr Dallas i would rather avoid that if possible, so i would appreciate your full discretion on this subject” he smiles
With little other choice you flick through the pages, signing your name on a couple of dotted lines.
“Thank you Mr Dallas” he says drawing the forms away from you “Please by all means go and meet with your crew, however I am afraid to inform you, that you will all be confined to the base until we get communications back up, the riots have worsened since yesterday and frankly its not safe to leave, im sure you understand” he moves to the door opening it for you “Im sure we will be needing you all to accompany us somewhere soon”
>>
>>1299005
“Sure...” you mutter leaving
“Thank you for your time” he nods, flashing another polite smile before closing the door behind you.
The security guard outside points down a corridor nodding.
“Rec rooms that way, you’ll find your crew there Mr Dallas” he informs you
“Thanks...” you say taking your wrench back from him.
Unsure how to feel or react to Mr Carpenters talk you walk in a daydream towards the Rec room, pushing the door open you are greeted by a large comfy room, a pool table and sofas with a TV screen in the corner filling it. Inside are all your crew members. At the pool table Michael and David are having a game, Kurt is sat by himself on a sofa staring aimlessly at the TV. Liz, Ellen and Justin sit on the other sofa, relaxing. At the worktop Isaac stands with William sharing a drink.
“John!” Michael smiles are you. Everyone turns to the door, Kurts attention snaps away from the TV screen and he stands up smiling at you. Liz jumps off the sofa and hurries over to you but is beaten by David.
“How are you doing?!” He asks grabbing your arm and smiling
“I-im ok i think, heads sore” you smile softly.
Liz pushes past David and hugs you “Thank god you’re ok” she says ecstatically, while she does this you see Michael and Isaac exchange a knowing a look while smiling at each other before looking back at you still grinning. You laugh hugging her back, when you break the embrace Kurt is stood next to you.
“It feels like it’s been weeks” he smiles, still shaken but significantly calmer than before.
“Its good to have you back Kurt” you say, going for a quick embrace and patting his back, his messy red beard scratching against his face as he breaks and gives you a large bear hug. Isaac brings you a glass of water smiling silently handing it too you.

Gah! I want to describe what we saw in the infirmary room to William so bad (to find out if he's encountered anything similar on the Hermes), but we're almost certainly being monitored. Dammit!

Actually I wonder if we should have flat out told Carpenter about that. Meeting ended sooner than I expected and I didn't really have a chance to consider doing that.

Ah well. First off, let's ask them to fill us in with whatever they've discovered about the current going ons with the escort ship firing on us, the communication blackouts and anything else they believe we should be informed of.

Then we can rest with an arm comfortably wrapped around Liz, if nothing else comes up.

“Rest up kid” Michael says resting the pool cue on his shoulder.
You collapse on the sofa and Liz is quick to take the spot next to you, beaming at you while Kurt returns to his seat.
“What happened up there?” you ask openly to the group
“Not sure what to tell you” Isaac replies
“One of the escorts just freaked, started firing its weapons, spinning out of control” David explains “It veered off and crashed into the side of the cliff, I managed to put the Heimdall down, it was bumpy and not easy but you know me” he boasts
“You did good back there” Ellen smiles stroking his ego
“Kurt and William have calmed down a bit since yesterday too” Isaac says gesturing towards the two
“Captain...” Kurt starts
“Nothing to say Kurt, it was a fucked up day, its fine” Isaac brushes it off
Kurt nods but has a look of regret spread across his face, he turns back to you and manages a half optimistic expression
“So you had a talk with Carpenter?” Kurt asks
“Yeah, had to sign to a non disclosure agreement, guy kinda didn’t give me a choice” you explain
“We all had the same treatment” Ellen answers
“You all had to sign as well I take it” you ask
You are met by several voices chorusing their answers of yes.
“We aren’t allowed to leave either?” you question
“The riots in the colony are too bad apparently” Kurt responds
“Well to be fair as we left the Heimdall, you can see fires and it’s not exactly quiet out there” Justin says
“Surely it can’t be over inequality or pay gaps?” Liz asks
“Fuck knows what’s going on out there” Michael says.
“He seemed interested in the Alien buildings” you state
“He asked us about them too, he seems to think the Hermes might have samples of one onboard” Isaac replies
“William?” David asks

He is still stood awkwardly at the work top, he shuffles uncomfortably at the question, grabbing his wrist.
“I-i told you all everything” he mutters “The ship, i w-was stuck in there for days” he seems nervous
“Whatever you did on the planet, you royally fucked that ship up” Kurt says sounding angry almost.
“WE DIDNT DO ANYTHING!!!” William screams hysterically.
The room is silent for several seconds before Isaac stands up.
“Everyone take a deep breath okay?” He says calmly
A shudder ripples through the building and the tv shuts down, the lights flicker off then on a couple of times. A siren can be heard in the distance.
“Whats going on?” Liz asks a tone of panic in her voice
William starts pacing frantically, his eyes shifting rapidly.

Mh, so the Valkyrie didn't specifically shoot us, it just went berserk.

Sorry to have to ask this again but do the doors of this room have windows? Can we see if there's any guards stationed outside of them?
I'm not really intent on leaving just yet, but it would be good to be prepared (i.e. know what's outside the door)
Heck, even if they don't have glass, it may be wise to try opening one and peek out. No subtlety, if the guards have anything to say about it we can just respond "You felt the shaking man, just wanted to see if the rest of the building is still standing".

Apart from that, possibly before that, all I have to say to our crewmates right now is:
>"Doing some simple math, we have footage of an alien world with the remains of an advanced civilization but no inhabitants to speak of. Now we have several of our colonies suddenly simultaneously experiencing unprecedented global communication blackouts. Call me crazy, but I'm not entirely convinced what's happening out there is your conventional riot."
