The palace's basement is basically a second palace, at least in size and scope.

Storage rooms, the rooms of servants and guests of lesser prestige, a second kitchen, but also an armory, a "confidential meeting" room, and... well, the treasury, too, of course.

And it's in the meeting room that you find the Alchemicals, as well as Mikahil and Aexel. Your entrance in the small chamber seems to interrupt some discussion.

A round, polished oak table stands in the centre of the room, surrounded by upholstered chairs all around. Engine is the only one not sitting down, and Mikahil looks like a student struggling to stay awake during a particularly boring lesson. You arrival jolts him awake, but he's clear he's suffering from the Alchemicals' strange influence as well just like you and Valeriana did.

"Bwuh. Hi, Maka." He mumbles in your direction.

As you approach and pull a chair, you take a moment to focus on your internal perception. You still feel that strange sensation coming from the Alchemicals - much like the essence resonance of a powerful Orichalcum artifact, in fact, now you realize - but you don't feel tired or sleepy anymore.

Probably it's something that happens only the first time, and now your organism has adapted to the strange wavelength of memories coming from the two artificial Exalted.

"It's getting to you, too, right?" You smile, trying to keep him awake by grabbing his cheek and pinching playfully.

"Ow ow ow ow ow." He struggles a bit and then gets grabs your wrists and twists it to release your grip. "I'm fine, I'm fine. Listen, we gotta talk."

You eye the two guests, who eye you back in kind.

Yeah, you do.

From the sidelines, Aexel slides one of many papers on the table in front of you. Looks like someone's been taking notes.

Aexel's calligraphy is flowing and beautiful. You never realized, but even his hastily-written notes are good enough to be hung on a wall as art.

Focusing on the message, you glance through the paper. Looks like Mikahil and the Alchemical have been mostly discussing numbers.

You find an approximate list of all the things that they need to save their Maker. The list is enormous, in ways that boggle your imagination.

Millions of tons of metals and materials. The list includes magical materials in quantities you honestly doubt exist, or could have ever existed.

The "Eye" is listed aside, not as part of the list but as an alternative to it. Is that artifact equivalent to all that? You find that almost harder to believe.

Under that, Mikahil's comments: That list of materials is equivalent to Creation's entire output in the respective fields for the next 50 years. To deliver it without destroying Creation's economy, you'd need either improvements in mining technology or other ways to vastly increase output, or the ability to dilute that cost over a long span of time. The 300 years deadline the Alchemicals mentioned makes that barely possible, but that kind of assumes complete control over all of Creation's mineral sources in the next five years.

That sounds pretty unlikely, Exalted or not.

"So we have three options." You conclude, pocketing the paper. "We either take over Creation fast, or we find some alternate way of obtaining those materials, or we find your Maker's Eye."

Everyone nods. You can read an unspoken message in Engine of Salvation's eyes. We have a fourth option, they say, and no one's going to like it, but we'll use it if we have to.

You figure it's better to not talk about it openly.

>Ask Mikahil about option #1: How fast can we gain control over all of Creation?
>Ask Mikahil about option #2: Are there any other ways of obtaining these materials?
>Ask Mikahil about option #3: What does he know about this "Eye" thing?

>Who are we?
Maka, an exiled noble Exalted as a Zenith-caste Solar. Queen of Gem, now ruling the western island of Tianna. You have gathered a vast amount of allies and friends, and defeated every threat to Tianna up to now, though not without difficulty.
You recently discovered that Tianna is actually an artificial island, built around a First Age Titan: an almighty flying fortress. Your forces have crushed the Bodhisattva Anointed by Dark Water, a Deathlord who tried to usurp its power for himself.
And now, on the day of your wedding, the Unconquered Sun Himself appeared to you and crowned you Princess of Creation, asking you to be an example for others in these dark times.
After securing the alliance of the nearby realm of Neck (or Okeanos, as they prefer to be called), you received news from your remote homeland of Gem: Rankar, the man who usurped your throne, holds your father and sister prisoner, and is about to marry her to his own son in an attempt to solidify and legitimize his power over the city.
You found out that Rankar was dealing with Alchemical Exalted, strange machine heroes from another world. Their world is dying and they're desperate to find the raw materials they need to repair it, and you're trying to find a way to avoid a war that could endanger Creation...

>Solar? Zenith? I don't know Exalted...

Woooo another thread!

Val really is the one to ask about the second option and our possible Wyld Fae Mining Operation, but maybe she mentioned something before conking out or Aexal can lay in on the idea if not any of the details.

(seems like #10 is getting the majority of the votes)

"So, Mika." You put an arm around his back and shake him a bit, trying to keep him focused. "What do you know about this Eye thing?"

He takes a deep breath. "The Eye of Autochton." He says, solemnly, as if merely saying its full name could have some awesome and terrible effect.

The two Alchemicals seem downright shocked by hearing it. Integer frowns deeply and seems almost offended, but Engine, shocked, leans across the table. "You know the Eye of Autochton?! It's in Creation?!"

"Probably." Mikahil yawns, though clearly not from boredom.

As for themselves, the Alchemicals are on the edge of their seats (metaphorically, and, in Integer's case, literally).

"It's an old story, or rather, a collection of old stories. The best know of them is probably the Tale of Bagrash Kol."

"Never heard of that."

"I'm not surprised, it happened... around RY 150, in the far north."

Engine blinks. "What's a RY?"

"RY 150 is about six hundred years ago." You explain. "What happened?"

"Bagrash Kol was a sorcerer - probably a Dragon-Blooded, though details are scarce. What is certain is that he somehow came into possession of the Eye, and with its power created a vast and powerful empire overnight."

"To use the power of the Great Maker for-" Integer jumps up, but Engine shuts her up with a gesture.

She's ENRAPTURED. "Continue." She commands.

"He ruled from a tower so high it had a gate to let the Moon through, according to one story. His empire was of such a size that it put the Realm to shame. And after five years of absolute rule, it just collapsed overnight. Bagrash Kol disappeared, as did the Eye and everything it wrought."

"Something tells me it's not the end of the story."

"A hundred years later, it made its way in the hands of an Imperial Satrap, one Manosque Viridian, who tried to use its power to usurp the Scarlet Throne."

"Let me guess: He somehow amassed enormous power overnight and then vanished mysteriously."

"Essentially." He gives you a sleepy smile. "He shut down all of the Realm's manses and left the Empress powerless. He had almost won. And then, as he was marching a vast force on the Imperial City, suddenly the day became night and him and half of his army just fell upwards and vanished into the sky."

"When was the last known appearance of the Eye?" Engine asks.

"Two hundred years ago, here in the south. A wandering preacher called Ikerre started a cult worshipping Autochton and waged a terrible war on the Fair Folk using the power of the Eye."

"How did it end?"

"He inflicted untold losses upon the Fae, piling defeat after defeat on them, and even cleared several shadowlands. The Realm took notice, and sent a force to capture the Eye. They still remembered about Manosque and were terrified, you see."

"And they found...?"

"Him and all of his followers turned into crystal."

"No sign of the Eye?"

"No sign of the Eye."

I meant to bring this up earlier, but we should talk with Val about whether or not it would be possible to control that effect, you can't avoid the mistakes of the past if you don't know anything about it, and most knowledge of the First Age in the current era is Shogunate and Realm propaganda.

Engine groans. "I'm ashamed to admit that we know even less of the Eye than you do. All we know is that a critical component is missing from the Great Maker. We did not even know it would be in Creation."

"Any clue as to how to find it, why it's apparently jumping left and right, or... really anything useful?" Aexel wonders, voicing your doubts perfectly.

"None." She shrugs, defeated. "There might be some ancient lore in the archives of the Maker that could help us, perhaps, combined with your information. Perhaps."

That didn't sound very optimistic. "Can you tell me a bit more about your... Maker?"

"He is our world and everything to us." Engine affirms.

"You must really hold him in high regard."

"No, I meant that literally. He literally is everything. We live inside him, and he is suspended in the space between the universes. Nothing else exists outside of him."

"That's... impressive." You're speechless for a second. "Are all of its inhabitants, er, like you?"

"The Autochtonians are mortals from Creation. With a few minor changes. They populate the Maker. We are their guardians and caretakers."

"Is Autochton from Creation, too?" A sneaking suspicion rises in your mind...

"He was. He was one of the Primordials who made it. He was forced into exile by your kind untold centuries ago."

Theeere it is.

You grin. "...We really have a lot of damage to fix, don't we?"

The two Autochtonians look at each other, then back at you: "We don't hold you responsible." "Your shard of power might be the same, but your consciousness is different, so assigning blame is meaningless."

That puts you a bit more at ease. At least they're not taking this personally. "You seem to know a lot about Solars and how they work, even though you're both pretty new to Creation."

Engine nods. "I made some research before coming here."

Wait a second. "...Why would such detailed information about Solars be contained in Autochton?"

"Because Autochton helped make the Exalted."

Silence.

You slam your hand on the table. "I'm sorry?!"

"The Great Maker was instrumental in the creation of the shards of power and the blessings of the blood used in Celestial and Terrestrial Exaltations. The power still derives and is associated from the relative Incarna or Dragon, but the practical realization was the Great Maker's handiwork."

You... you don't think she's lying.

"And we kicked him out. Great." You groan. "The more I hear about First Age Solars..."

By now, Mikahil has stopped contributing to the conversation, and, judging by his lack of reaction to the reveal.... yep he's basically sleeping now.

Well, first we need to warn them about the Deathlords and how they are extra evil first age Solar Ghosts. So the eye exists in Creation that much is for sure. Ask about a proper alliance/friendship between us and the Alchemicals, we'll help them search Creation for the Eye and maybe even find some alternatives for strip mining the world and they help us out with stuff. Set up trade between the two nations, food, weapons, resources, maybe we can hire them out to help us get the Titan back in the sky.

"So... I'd like to ask you some more questions, in the interest of knowing more about each other."

Engine and Integer nod in unison, with a gesture so synchronized it looks almost rehearsed.

"So, are you... made? You're not natural-born humans, right?"

"We are not. We are created specifically to assist and support the Great Maker and its population." Engine replies.

"And how does that work?" You scratch your head. "How are you actually made?"

"It's a complex technical procedure we are not at liberty of discussing with outsiders."

"Does it involve sex?"

"It does not involve sex."

"Bummer." You sigh. "I guess is has something to do with those gemstones on your foreheads?"

"It does."

You wait for more information, but it doesn't come.

"...So, what's going on in your homeland?" You try another subject.

"Autochtonia is dying." Engine snaps at you. "Every closed system suffers from entropic collapse sooner or later, and the Great Maker was already sick and damaged when his exile began." She tries to control herself, visibly. "...Autochtonia is not a world as blessed as your own, where water falls from the sky and food sprouts from the ground. Sustaining life is a process, and a process that is becoming harder and harder to maintain. On top of that, the corruption has caused the appearance of..."

She hesitates, but then pushes on. "The weakening of the Great Maker has created... gaps in his auto-immune system, in which unsavory beings have managed to prosper. On every side, spiritual, social and mechanical, the cancer is spreading."

"Creation has its share of troubles too." You explain in response. "Fae, and Deathlords, above all." An idea strikes you. "Would your Great Maker know how to slay a Neverborn?"

"What's a Neverborn?"

"As far as I know... the dead soul of a primordial, still rooted to reality."

Integer shakes her head. "I have no idea where to even begin to analyze this problem."

"If you want answer to your questions, you will have to help us save the Great Maker first." Engine offers.

"Well, can you help us?" You reply.

"We can offer technology and organizational know-how to improve your productivity." Integer explains. "It was what I was experimenting with here in Gem, and it functions, though the gains are marginal for now."

"And for the Eye?"

"We will research the topic. If we find useful information, you will know." Integer promises. Engine continues from where she left off: "That is, if you assist us. If we'll have the impression that your help is insufficient, or if we have any reason to suspect you are not being forthcoming with us, we will bring our armies to bear."

"No need to get shouty, girls." You try and force a smile and raise both hands to calm her down. "I'm all for helping each other. We both have things the other wants, right?"

"What do YOU want from us?" Engine seems very suspicious of your motives by now.

"I'm very interested in your technical knowledge and technology."

(cont.)
>>
"We will aid you proportionately to how much you aid us." She concedes. "Give us as many of our required resources as you can in order to stave off the death of the Maker, and assist us in finding the Eye, while laying no claim to it. In exchange, we will offer our knowledge and expertise in any field you require."

So if we're really gonna do this, we're going to need for this quest is a wait to locate the Eye. If the Alchemicals could come up with a wait to track down Autochtonion Essence, that would be a a big help. Even if it's not very accurate, knowing that the Eye is in say, The East, means we won't waste time hunting in the North, South, West, or on the Blessed Isle.
>>
"It's a deal, then." You offer your hand.

Engine looks it, rather puzzled.

"It's a gesture common in Creation to express agreement, acknowledgement and acceptance of terms." Integer informs her, taking your hand and shaking it. A confused Engine imitates her gesture right afterwards.

"One of us should stay here in Gem to keep the portal safe and maintain local contacts, then." Engine notes. "The other will follow you to offer assistance and make sure you keep your end of the bargain in exchange."

haven't caught up all the threads so uneducated 1/2 baked plan incoming.

if we had enough reality engines, a protracted war against the fae could produce the materials they need in less than 300 years.

if they can affect repairs to the Flame it might even be possible.

the mundane stuff would actually be fairly easy given the massive amounts of material present in even a square mile of area.

the actual problem is coming up with X tons of any magical material.

short of conquering stygia, finding the Jadeborn, plundering yushan or the like.
>>
>>1292958

That might have been plausable if Tyrant had survived the battle with the Silver Prince.

>plundering yushan
UCS-senpai probably wouldn't like that and might take away or fragment of the Crown of Thunders, as well as stop being our Mentor.
Also, Nyssea would probably hit us with the Orichalcum bat again.

You stop and think.

"...Border? Do you need to stay here in Gem to keep your charms enhancing the city's economy functioning?"

"I do." She nods. "Engine can take over with her own powers should I leave, though."

"You know that economics and bureaucracy are not my specializations." Engine responds. "I can do that, but the effects would be lesser. What I could do is introduce some useful mining equipment and machinery. I have a vast knowledge of mechanomagical engineering."

"That could draw the Realm's attention... hmm..." You mumble. "Can't you make a second portal to Tianna?"

"I'm afraid we can't."

"Not that easily."

"It's a very long and complex and costly operation."

You roll your eyes. "That would've been too easy."

yeah, all of those were outliers unsuitable for a real plan.

however it should be noted that most of the economic pitfalls of protracted warfare fade into irrelevance when you can use technomagic to force conquered territory to be say a bountiful gold mine or a lush forest. also correct prayers to the celestial could alter the prevailing winds to carry indistrial pollution away from reclaimed land into the wyld.

then when your done mining, chopping, or what have you allow the wyld to reclaim it.

instant recycling. its a bit of a dick plan likely to invite fae aggression, but it would work.
>>
>>1292963
>I have a vast knowledge of mechanomagical engineering.

Integer provides more benefits staying and already largely agrees with us. Engine needs more convincing to really be on board, so she should come along with us to see our work firsthand.

Also we could bring her back to Irene and watch her cream her panties over magitech. That'd be fun.

"Engine, wouldn't you mind coming along?" You suggest. "I think it would be the best arrangement."

"You might be correct." She nods. "That way I'll be able to keep you under control."

"I guess." You admit nonchalantly. "Integer, you best work well with my dad, alright?"

"I will give him a fair chance." She nods. You feel like she doesn't really care much about who rules over Gem as long as she can do her thing.

You feel Mika, who is now slumped over the table, mumbling and tossing and turning.

He's fast alseep, and it doesn't seem like a particularly restful sleep. His face is troubled. You can't imagine what he's going through, but it's probably not good.

"Alright then. Engine, prepare your things. We'll go back to Tianna together. Integer, good work here in Gem with my dad. Aexel, fix up the last details with them."

"Will do." The dragon-blooded, who has been writing down notes on your conversation all this time, gives you a thumbs-up. "What about Mikahil?"

You gently lift him up from the table and carry him in your arms. "I'll take care of him."

You walk out of the room, and nearly trip into Tia, who was waiting outside and is now slumped on the ground... also asleep.

For a moment you're worried about the Alchemicals having unexpected effects on Lunars, too, but you quickly realized she just collapsed from boredom.

From all the clamoring going on right over your head, you feel like your father'll be busy for quite a while.

What next?

...The temptation is VERY strong, on both sides.

But, no, you're a good girl.

You go upstairs and deposit both of them in your bedroom, pass word to one of the servants to keep an eye on them in case anything bad happens but otherwise to let them rest, and make your way to the throne room.

...Which is NOT EASY. It's under siege by an army of messengers, lesser nobles, dignitaries, traders and merchants, and what have you. As soon as you're spotted, they start clustering around you with shouty voices that demand to be heard, but you manage, bit by bit, to slither your way past them and into the room in the space between one of them leaving and the next one being let in.

A chorus of angry cries rises in response to your cutting the line, but you silence them with one glare before slamming the door behind you.

Dad seems in his element. He's fresh and upbeat, with servants and counselors milling all about him. One is showing him a paper filled with thick handwriting while the other is reading from a ledger book. A third one is bringing him a cup of coffee.

He lifts his eyes, evidently expecting another one wanting to speak with him, and is surprised to see you. "-oh! Maka!"

He stands up, nearly knocking the coffee into the servant, and gives you a deep hug.

"I really, really missed you. Sorry. I got trapped here."

"You look like you're enjoying yourself." You smile, hugging him back. "I was wondering if you needed any help."

"I'm doing fine! I've been walled up in a room with nothing to do for WAY too long." He returns to the throne. "Other than being worried for how badly was Rankar wrecking my city. Turns out he did an actually amazing job. I wasn't expecting that."

"I think it's not entirely thanks to his brilliance." You explain. "The Alchemical that was with him-"

"That floating lady with the lightning all around?"

"Yes. Border of Integer and Rational. She was helping him, a lot."

Askar narrows his eyes, and gives you a very, very deep and serious look.

"...Maka?"

"Yes?"

He asks you the million talents question.

"What is going ON?"

>I'll explain later! For now, do you need help with dealing with all that mess of people?

(Assuming you make sure you're alone with Askar before you reveal compromising information. Responses marked with an asterisk can be stacked (if for example you want to tell him about the Alchemicals and you getting married, but not you being an Exalted or what happened in Tianna). You cast furtive glances to the assistants all about the room.

Askar gets the message, waves them off.

"I have so many questions I'm not even sure I can ask all of them individually." He sighs, once the last one of them leaves the room, and sinks in the throne with a deep sigh. "What happened to you and Karas? Why are the people you brought along really? Who is this Integer person? What's going ON?!"

"Dad..."

Yeah. Yeah, it's about time.

"...I'll explain everything."

You do.

Well, not EVERYTHING everything. Tia is... Tia needs Tia.

But everything else. You can't lie to him, and you can't keep the truth from him anymore.

At the end of your long, rambling explanation of your current situation, you find your father just... dumbstruck.

"...Solar Exalted."

"Yeah."

"...Are you alright?" Is his first question, concerned for you.

"I'm fine." You explain. "It's me. It's really me. Sometimes the memories of this other person from before come to the surface, and it's unpleasant. But I'm still me."

He grabs your hand, and gently squeezes it. "...Are you SURE?"

"I'm fine, dad." You repeat.

"Hi, fine." His face bends in a grin. "I'm dad."

With your other hand, you karate chop him on the head.

"...Worth it." He replies, massaging the spot you just hit.

"I guess I should be glad to see that the news didn't shock you that much."

"Oh, it IS a shock. But I'm just happy to know that you're doing alright. And, carving your own kingdom in the West? That's something to be proud of as a father. You're amazing."

You're nearly blushing. "Thank you, dad."

"And while I wasn't looking, you've grown up to be quite a stunning lady."

"...Thank you." NOW you'e blushing.

"I bet that you've got a horde of boys trying to hit on you everywhere you go." He lifts an eyebrow

"Uh..."

>We can hate-fuck her brains out later.
But we don't hate Five-Tails. Our relationship with her is pretty good actually. And what you're suggesting could ruin that, and cause her to put a knife in us.
Plus, deliberately destroying a Solar/Lunar relationship like that would make UCS-senpai sad after all the trust he's put in us. You wouldn't want that, would you?
>>
>>1293724

Fair enough but I don't think this would ruin that relationship. I think Five Tails is the worlds only prude lunar (besides Talon) because she thinks if she shares Mika she'll lose him (see my previous sex god Mika headcanon). In theory, when she sees that that's not the case it should take a huge load off her mind.
While Maka takes a huge load off of Mika ayyyy.

Dude, this plan is sounding worse and worse and more and more less nice.

I mean, seriously, just because someone doesn't want to have sex with Maka doesn't mean they're a prude. Big difference between pressuring someone into sex and offering. Pressuring is when Maka tackled Talon to the ground and threatened to knock the fence over and bang him in front of everyone if he didn't put it in her. We just want Maka to preposition Mika. He says no? Fine. He says yes? Great!

Sheer effing jubilation
>>
Finally, you manage to emerge from the chaos surrounding the throne room and head back to your room.

You wave the servants away, quietly, cautiously open the door, and peek inside.

...Tia has fallen off the bed while tossing and turning in her sleep, and is now fast asleep on the carpet on the ground, in a contorted, almost painful looking posture. She doesn't seem bothered by it at all. She has a huge grin plastered on her face, and softly twitches every now and then.

You guess she's having a good dream.

Mikahil, on the other hand, is tucked in, lying on his back. The troubled expression is gone from his face, replaced by a neutral one. Maybe his dream ended, and he's now just in deep sleep.

Feeling a bit mischievous today, you remove your clothes and sneak in bed with him.

He's sleeping DEEPLY. He doesn't wake up or notice you at all, and you feel like you could pinch his cheeks and even that wouldn't wake him up.

You lift him up gently (still no reaction!) and get him to rest on your chest as a cushion.

...Hey, you just want him to be comfortable! You don't know what he's been through in that dream, and you'd like him to wake up in good spirits. At least, that's how you're justifying this to yourself.

After about another half a hour of undisturbed sleep, you feel Mikahil slowly stirring back to wakefulness.

"Good morning, sunshine." You welcome him back.

"...hwuh." He mumbles, quietly. Then, as the current situation dawns on him, he lets out a startled "Bwuh?!" and tries to pull himself up from the bed.

You grab him and pull him closer to you, in full contact, feeling the brush of his clothes on your bare skin.

"...Maka?" He's now fully awake, and you feel like the initial surprise has faded. "...What are you doing?"

"How are you feeling?" You reply with a question of your own.

"Sleepy." He replies. "Confused. A bit- no, wait, actually, my question came first!"

"I was just wondering if you needed some... comfort." You suggest. "Your dreams of the First Age..."

He slowly shakes his head. "...Yeah. I saw... I didn't like what I've seen. But, in the end, it... it gave me a good answer."

"Oh?"

His eyes drift to the vaulted, decorated ceiling of the room. "That I'm not him. That I don't HAVE to be him. And that it's not inevitable."

"As much as these visions can be distressing... I think that in the end they always end up showing you something uplifting or reassuring." You consider. "It happened to me, to Valeriana, and now to you."

"Maybe."

"Maybe they just... maybe it just tries to bring out the best of us." You suggest.

"Hands over the blanket." He orders you.

You slowly lift them, amused. "I'm just trying to give you some stress relief." You suggest, playful.

He sighs, pinching the bridge of his nose. "...I understand. And I appreciate it, really. But I can't. Not with Five Tails holding the fort and waiting for me five thousand miles away."

"So what you're saying is that it should be a threesome."

(cont.)
>>
>>1295974

That is clearly exactly what he was saying yes yup good.
>>
"I'm not-" He groans, and rolls his eyes in desperation, dropping the subject.

You giggle.

"...Just put some clothes on, please. You're making this harder than it needs to be."

"That was pretty much the point of it."

"...I- wow. I really walked into that one did I."

"Sure did."

He slowly climbs out of the bed. "...I don't think we should be doing this. Not like this."

You have to appreciate the effort of willpower he's taking him to pass your offer, but that also raises all sorts of complicated feelings in you...

"I'll see you and Five for the threesome some other time, then~" You say, alluringly.

"I'm genuinely curious to know how she'll respond to that." He replies, leaving the bed and nearly tripping in Tia.

He gives her a puzzled look, then back at you.

"She was bored." You shrug.

Sidestepping the Lunar crumpled on the floor, Mikahil makes for the exit. "Don't relax too much. There's still some stuff to take care of before we get back to Tianna."

And he leaves.

You roll across the bed and peek down at Tia. She has one of the dumbest grinning faces you've ever seen, lying face down, bottom up, in a hilarious pose.

You lean out of the bed and gently pick up Tia by the waist and pull her in the bed.

her eyes blink open as you do so, and it takes her all of five seconds to become fully awake. You can FEEL her blood pressure instantly shooting up under her skin.

"Maka!" She shouts, jumping on top of you and pinning you down under her so hard that you hear the bed loudly creak in protest.

You hope she doesn't end up breaking it. It's a very old oak canopy bed with silk curtains. You really like it.

"Easy there." You try and keep her under control. "You were smiling all the time. What were you dreaming?"

"THIS." She boldly proclaims, removing her white dress and throwing it across the room in a single gesture

Oh my, she's super eager. "I'm sorry if it's been boring earlier." You apologize playfully. "No sex, no violence..."

"You'll just have to make up for it now." Tia grins, going into full predator mode.

And that's when you hear knocking at the door.

Tia freezes, staring at you with a panicked expression. You see her starting to sweat.

>Don't let that stop you!

"What's wrong, dear?" You gently caress Tia's cheek while you see her eyes darting around, in panic. "Having an audience never scared you. On the contrary, it's always made you prouder."

More knocking almost causes Tia to jump off the bed.

You roll your eyes. "Who is it?"

"Maka?" The door swings open, and Askar enters. "Are you here? I wanted to ask you- oh."

By then, Tia has already transformed in her mantis animal shape and hid under the bed.

"...Sorry. I woke you up?" He apologizes, then arcs an eyebrow. "You still sleep in the nude? It's not good for your health, you know.

"Let me worry about my health." You reply, unable to conceal your annoyance. "And don't just barge in my room."

"I knocked."

"You knock, I ask who is it, you answer, and then I say "come in". That's the usual protocol. Don't just skip-" You take a deep breath. "Alright, what is it?"

"...Eskarin stormed the throne room and made a scene, and, uh. I think I need your help to talk some sense into your sister. She's not listening to me."

>Deal with it like two adults.
>Just let her marry who she wants!

"Actually, speaking of marriage... There's something I really need to tell you. Sit down."

He grabs a chair, looking all of a sudden rather concerned.

"Alright, Tia. Come out."

Nothing happens.

"...Tia?"

Askar gives you a puzzled look. "If this is some kind of joke-"

"TIA! GET YOUR ASS BACK IN HUMAN FORM THIS SECOND OR-"

A terrified Tia peeks her face from under her bed. "Um, hi." She mumbles at Askar.

He narrows his eyes at her, then at you. "Maka dear, did you really think I couldn't tell that you and this young lady had that kind of relationship from the first moment I saw her? I'm your dad. I know how you operate."

You wait for the coin to drop.

"...Wait, what does this have to do with marriage?"

You wait some more.

He stands up. Tia hides under the bed.

"Maka."

"Yes?"

"Did you-"

"I married her."

He sits back down.

You hesitate. "Not just her."

"What do you-" He groans and holds his head in his hands. "Did- did you divorce or something?"

"No. I also married queen Amata."

He sighs again. "Two girls."

"Well, Tia is..."

"...Tia is what?"

"...Kind of a special case?"

He stands up. "What."

"I'm pregnant."

He sits down. "What."

A long silence ensues.

He stands up. "She's a girl."

"Not all of the time."

He sits down, letting out another long sigh, head in hands once again.

"Can she come out of the bed? It's kind of hard to have a conversation like this." He mumbles, after a few seconds.

Slowly, Tia rolls out from under the bed. Askar gives her a long, long, hard stare.

"Dad-" You start, but he cuts you off immediately.

"Once, I told you that my sons and daughters were going to be able to marry whoever they wanted out of love. That I was not going to force an arranged marriage on them for political reasons."

"Yes." You smile. "I remember."

He kneels down, getting on eye level with Tia, who is sitting on the carpet, buck naked, crying, twitching, red as a cherry.

"I know I shouldn't be saying this. I'm just a mortal, and you're Exalted, but listen to me nonetheless."

She hiccups.

"I want you to cherish Maka. To protect her, and to make her the happiest princess in the universe."

"...I will." You can barely hear her hoarse, rasping voice.

"And I want to see the kids."

"I'll visit." You smile.

He leans in, kisses Tia's forehead, and stands up. "What about Karas?"

"We're still working on him." You explain, vaguely.

"Make sure he doesn't do something dumb."

"You're asking a lot."

Askar turns around, making for the door.

"What about Eskarin?"

"I'll tell her that she can make her own damn mistakes if she wants to that badly." He replies. "...Sorry if I interrupted you."

He closes the door behind himself.

You extend an arm to take Tia's hand and gently tug on it. "That wasn't so bad."

"DAT WOZ ZO ZCAWWY" Tia starts crying like a fountain as the nervousness passes from her. She grabs a hold of you and buries her face in your chest.

"There, there. It's all right. He's not scary, see? And he approved of you! It's all fine."

It takes her a few minutes to get herself together. She sniffles and hiccups a bit more, but then relaxes.

This girl who stared down Faerie princes and Deathlords in the eye was reduced to a quivering mess by your dad. If that thought is not amusing, you don't know what is.

It's not long before you and Tia pick back up from where you were interrupted, and Tia is especially energetic now. It's not easy for you to preserve your favorite bed's integrity.

>If we have any Kiss of the Sun slots left(can't remember), offer one to Dad.

Let's give Mikahil a little time to add some of his city-wide social charms to Integer's to help our dad out, and then visit that Exalt in the brothel to make sure they'll play ball since you won.
>>
>>1296524
>>1296540
I don't want to do any Kiss of the Sun without Mom here too or at least I wouldn't want to do one without the other because of the extended lifespan. Don't want Mom or Dad outliving the other by a century or something.
>>
>>1296547

If we find mom, I don't expect it to take more than 5 or ten years, even then I'm sure we can find a solution. The short term gains of having an Awakened Steward down South are really good since we can't be in the city with them and it will take travel time to come down if they call for help.
>>
>>1296540
Hey, now that we've won, we could give a final speech to Gem using City-Moving Song (using the personal commit pool) to help reinforce dad's position.

>>1296540
As I recall, we only Awakened Regis, Millian, and Pyre, so that leaves us with three slots for both dad and sis and one left over.
>>
>>1296540
>>If we have any Kiss of the Sun slots left(can't remember), offer one to Dad.
We have used 3 slots with Regis, Millian, and Pyre Spark.
We have three left. Which means we have enough to do Dad, sis, and mom if she's alive, but not Eskarin's new husband, or Running Swallow if he ever comes back, as was our original plan.
>>
>>1296565
Yeah, I was thinking Eskarin might turn us down unless we did Rankar, as well. Yeh've gotta earn it, kid.
>>
>>1296562
>>1296565

I really don't see Eskarin being a good choice. She doesn't have any skills that would be force multiplied by the essence, and we don't really have the week to spend down here to GLORIOUS SOLAR TUTORING them into her. If we want it just for the "My nuclear family will be untouched by the sands of time" we can always figure that out later, we have literally decades for someone to learn a Medicine charm for that.
>>
>>1296573
Yeah, I was just about to make this point. We did promise to visit, after all.

Although the lifespan is only a side benefit. Using Charms and overall improved abilities is the big bonus we'd be giving dad/sis. Though that might be suspicious to the satrap if they noticed...

Maybe we just let them know it's on the table and see how they respond?
>>
>>1296565
Let's ask Dad, but let's not do Eskarin since we can't do RJ too, same lifespan thing there also I don't totally trust him yet.

I mean we weren't just going to slap it on him without talking about it.
>>
>>1296573
>She doesn't have any skills that would be force multiplied by the essence
We haven't really spent enough time with her to make that call.
She had the same upbringing as Maka and Karas, so presumably she has the same skill set they did pre-exaltation, she just didn't have the opportunity to escape and encounter a situation where a Solar Exaltation noticed her.

You know that you need to be the one who knows when to say "ok, time to stop" in this relationship. Tia has the stamina and the will to go on for essentially forever, and she can't be trusted.

You, on the other hand, are a model of self-control and restraint.

After she goes through the usual phase of denial, you manage to get the both of you out of the bed and back into appropriate clothes.

"One day..." Tia mumbles, clenching her fist.

"One day what?" You wonder.

"Nothing." She shrugs. "So, what was so important that we NEEDED to interrupt the funtimes to do it?"

The reason I'm saying that is because she was much younger than the older two and spent most of her adolescensce raised by the usurper's, who wanted her to be a figurehead they could marry and not a rival.

>>I need to go and check on Arras Sahlak.
We still haven't figured out if she's actually and Exalt, or if that encounter was just a result of her rolling as well as we were rolling bad, and if so what kind.

>>
>>1296596

And to thank them.
Isn't Arras Sahlak the representative of her house or am I misremembering? So checking on her would be included in this vote?
>>
>>1296629
It's the difference between a social and a political visit. And given that we are friends with Arras, we owe her a more friendly visit than we give the other Noble Houses.
>>
>>1296596
So, let's analyze for fun:

>I need to see Karas, know what went on these last few hours, and how he's feeling.
Haven't seen him in a while, what's he even up to? Plus, we just accomplished our bro's dream.
>I need to become more intimate with those Alchemicals. For reasons.
Can wait, honestly. At least until they're more comfortable with us.
>I need to make sure the Realm doesn't suspect anything.
Satrap didn't seem to care much when shit was going down so long as it eventually settled, so things are probably good.
>I need to meet with the Houses representative, make sure they stay in line.
Not a bad idea. Short of the Eclipse power, we're the best at cementing relationships.
>I need to get started on helping with Halan Arbani's problem.
Actually might be useful to get the read of the sons or, if they do suck, get to know the daughters so we can pair them off with the right person.
>I need to go and check on Arras Sahlak.
She seems pretty easygoing and appears to value us more than just politically, so we could leave her be. Except for BURNING CURIOSITY. She might be more talkative now that Alchemicals have popped up, too.
>I need to start making a list of stuff we need to bring back to Tianna from Gem.
Eh, I'm sure our other people are taking notes.
>I need to talk with Dad.
Already done. Twice, in fact.
>>
>>1296596
>>I need to see Karas, know what went on these last few hours, and how he's feeling.
If he hasn't allready gone through the Alchemical induced vision of the past, get him to do that while we are here.

First things first: Rekka should be in one of the guest rooms here. You should go and check on him.

Making your way through the corridors of the palace and asking around a bit, you find where he's being kept.

Not a prisoner, you notice. No guards posted in front of the door, no security measures. He's just there, lying on a bed in a small but cozy room. A table next to the bed has a silver tea set, and the air is filled with the fragrance of mint.

As soon as Tia enters the room, following you, he tenses up. He doesn't say anything, but he follows you with his eyes, waiting for you to speak first.

You're not too sure how to break the ice in this situation. "How are you feeling?" You try.

"I've been worse." The swordsman replies. "Are you here because you're worried about my well-being?"

"Partially." You can't blame him for being so crabby, honestly - Tia DID beat him up pretty badly. However, you suspect that his pride suffered the worst wounds. Not just in that fight, but in all the inevitable overthinking that follows said lost fight.

You know something about that.

"I guess your contract with Rankar is over." You muse.

"I guess so."

"Can you tell me what was all that about, now? I think you're free to speak right now."

He balls up his right hand in a fist and looks at it, as if wondering where his sword went. "...In exchange for my services, Rankar would allow me to be Integer's student."

"Student?"

He lifts his eyes to meet yours. "I don't know if she's godling, spirit, anathema or what else, but she has knowledge coming from another world. A different world from ours. In that world, there exist swordsmanship styles that evolved along different lines, much different from our own."

"So that's why you called her your Sifu." You nod.

"Holding the title of Flying Blade of the South means to pursue the art of the sword in all of its forms. " He says.

"But you're also famous for not getting involved in political squabbles, keeping your neutrality and independence as a master of swordsmanship. Did you really need those styles so badly?"

He hesitates. "...I need to achieve greater strength. There is a man I must kill, and a wrong I must right. That is why I was ready to sell my sword to Rankar in exchange."

"Maybe I can help." You offer.

"I don't want your help. This is something that does not concern you." He replies, stiffly. "You have your own issues to worry about, and I have mine. And this is deeply personal."

That's fine we aren't going to be in the South for very long anyway so we wouldn't be much help if it involved finding a dude and murdering him, but the offer will always be open.

As for his apprenticeship with Integer, I don't want to do what Rankar was doing. If he wants to keep training with her then he doesn't need our permission. Yes it would be nice if we had him as a guard for Dad, but I don't want to force him to do something he would hate.

Fuck, Maka doesn't even know about this beauty:
"The Heaven-and-Earth Invitational is held every 25 years in Yu-Shan. The Unconquered Sun himself invites the 100 greatest martial artists in Creation to participate, whether mortal (rarely), Exalted or divine. The gods have never invited anyone from the Underworld or Malfeas. The Incarnae themselves don’t compete, and neither do the older Sidereals (though they watch the tournament closely). The prize is said to be a handshake from the Unconquered Sun, one move in the Games of Divinity and one day’s training with the Maiden of Battles—and, of course, eternal glory. Some unusual conditions must apply to the tournament, because a few un-Exalted mortals have won. "

"Well, If you want to keep training with Integer, and she is ok with it, there's really no reason you shouldn't." You note. "I mean, your reasons are really none of my business. As long as you're not going to cause trouble for me or my dad..."

"I have no reason to." He replies, stern. "This does not concern you, after all."

You smile. "I'd like if you could help my father here in Gem, actually. But I'm not going to make it a condition, just a polite request."

"I'll consider it." He stares briefly at his empty hand. "I'd like to ask for something, actually."

"Oh?" How unusual.

"I need a new sword." He looks up to you. "My old blade, Tempest, broke."

"I'll ask with my father. We'll see if we can find you a replacement."

"i'd be thankful." He replies, polite, as you leave.

Just outside the room, you find Radiant Starfall leaning on the opposite wall, waiting for you.

"Oh, hey. Here you are."

"Sorry it took me so long." She grins, bowing with a flourish. "Even a brilliant genius magical cover ops girl like me needs time to work her miracles sometimes."

"Rankar?"

"He's hiding in the back of a Guild wagon in the trader's district. A caravan leaving tomorrow for the Lap."

"You didn't capture him?" You were assuming she would.

"I wanted to ask first." She replies, walking alongside you. "I haven't told your dad yet. I'm pretty sure he wants to pay him back in kind, so tossed in a cell somewhere, but..." She shrugs lightly. "What do you think?"

I'm thinking along the same lines as here >>1298805. After we secure his compliance, we'll probably give him to dad afterwards or let him stay in Gem or even let him help around the castle. If our sister is going to marry his son, it'd be kind of sad to have him eliminated or imprisoned or afraid to return. Heck, that'd probably be a good way to ensure his cooperation (along with the Eclipse Oath).
>>
"Go get him, please." You ask her. "Bring him here. My dad is-"

"He's pretty mad."

"- yeah, pretty mad, so just... get around him. I'll deal with Rankar."

"Will do!"

And just like that, she's gone.

As you make your way back to the main hall, you notice that there's a lot less people all around. The nobles and merchants and dignitaries are all gone.

You imagine Askar dealt with them in the meanwhile. The palace is again... well, not "peaceful", but a bit less busy, at least.

You stop a servant and ask. Apparently your dad has gone to rest for a bit, as has Karas (who has, up to now, been organizing and dealing with guards and mercenaries and arranging security details). Though you have reason to suspect that maybe Karas is falling victim to the Alchemically-induced dreams too?
In all this,Eskarin and Rankar Jr. are still in her room, and most of the guests have gone to the respective homes.

You barge into Karas' room with no knocking (as you are used to do) and he jumps up from his bed, where he was apparently napping alone.

You contain your disappointment and sustain his scorning eyes. "What." He says.

"Are you alright?" You wonder.

"I've been busy as hell up to now." He yawns.

"What, are you implying I wasn't busy?" You reply, offended.

He glances behind you. "Tia, be honest with me. Has she been very busy, or have you banged savagely for the past four hours?"

"Both!" She answers with no hesitation.

"I rest my case, your honor." He drops back into the bed.

"So how are things, anyway?"

"I made sure that most mercenary companies and private armed forces in Gem got the message. Dad is... pretty firmly in control by now." He stares at the ceiling. "Still no sign of mom. No one knows anything."

"...What's your theory?"

"She ran away from Gem, like we did. Left the place."

"Leaving no trace?"

"It was a pretty chaotic moment. I don't find that hard to believe." He sighs. "That means that we can only hope that she hears about Dad being back on the throne, and shows herself. We don't really have any way of finding her, or even knowing where to look."

You nod. "...Did you already have the dream?"

"I think so." He turns his eyes to you. "I heard about it from Val. Something about the Alchemicals awakening ancient memories in our Solar Shards."

"Seems like a pretty solid theory." You shrug. "What did you see?"

"...I was piloting a giant robot, and punching another giant robot."

You wait for him to continue.

"...?"

"Wait, that's IT?" You complain. "No deep introspection, no momentous revelation, no angst or drama?"

"It was, like, super dramatic and stuff."

You roll your eyes.

"Hey, maybe the guy was like, really into punching robots and stuff." He explains.

"Maybe you're predestined to be a dumbass in all your reincarnations."

"Maybe you should shut up."

You keep calling each other names for the next five minutes, then calm down.

"...So. What do you plan on doing next?"

"As much as I'd like to stay here... I think we should go back to Tianna as soon as possible."

"Really? Why?" You wonder.

"Dad has the place under control. The Realm is super suspicious, and the longer we stay here the more likely it is that they'll start looking into us and find out that we're Solars. That would land dad in really big trouble, as well as the entire city." He holds up a finger. "Someday we should secure the Lap. Once Gem's food supply is out of the Realm's hands, things will be a lot better."

"We can't really embark in this sort of campaign." You explain, but you know that he knows already.

"Of course not." He nods. "We've got our hands full in Tianna already. That's why we should get back, I think."

"When?"

"...Tomorrow at dawn? Unless you need more time in Gem for something."

Also I do want to talk to Val again and see if she can't use the cities gold to cook us up a couple of artifacts or at least the Orichalcum to make them before we go.

>>1298947
I think they should put it off to give the city a chance to forget about Rankar. Speaking of Amata we should send her a Message telling her we've finished up here and everything is Aces, she might even know something about the Eye or could look up in Heaven.
>>
>>1298958
We might want to hold off on the Eye until she gets to meet the Engine in person. Alchemicals and Autotchthon's return are pretty big bombs to drop on someone who reports to Heaven.

Unfortunately my schedule changed and I'll have to leave sooner than expected... I'll be out for the entire weekend, so I have to close the session here.

Let's do some answers in fast format because they don't probably warrant an entire scene. Assume these to be obtained by Maka, in-character, walking around the palace and talking with people:

>Also I do want to talk to Val again and see if she can't use the cities gold to cook us up a couple of artifacts or at least the Orichalcum to make them before we go.

You know that distilling gold into orichalcum is a long, difficult and delicate procedure that requires a lot of preparation. You're pretty sure she can't do it here and now. She can barely do it in her laboratory in Tianna. Asking Valeriana herself, she confirms: she needs lava, concave mirrors, and a lot of tools and infrastructure that just is not found here.

Both her and Mikahil plan to grab some gold from Gem's treasury for their own nefarious purposes. Your father is not thrilled by the idea, but he obliges.

>It depends, if our sister is getting married then we might want to wait a day.
Considering all the recent events, even if Askar isn't adamantly opposed to the marriage on principle anymore, you imagine it would take some time to re-organize it (after you crashed it), do it properly, and all that. A new date will be fixed soon, but is probably not going to be immediate.

Finding Arbani's successor is not something particularly urgent. Besides, it's not something you can expect to be done with in a day or two.

You send a message to Amata to inform her that your mission (with all its complications) is complete.

You agree with Karas to remain in Gem for another day before returning.

5 dots.

As an aside, the Wealth standard is sort of emblematic of everything I hate about White Wolf's game design standards.

You spend several books working off a 1-to-5 scale, and then, when you need to give details for values that go beyond that scale, rather than bumping that scale to a 1 to 10 like every sane human being would do, you instead throw the old scale away and define a NEW scale that works differently and is only vaguely related to the first one.

This charm is amazing. Detecting backgrounds would have told us AMata was a Sidereal at game one. It will detect disguised Lunars(Hearts Blood is a background), most Abysals (since most will have Liege, Whipsers, or Underworld Manse) and many Infernals and Alchrmicals.

It's just an amazing "who is that guy" charm. It will even let us spot high Destiny to figure out good Kiss of the Sun targets, since Destiny is a kickass mortal background we can't GLORIOUS SOLAR MONTAGE into people.

Psh, like Sids aren't smarter than that.
>>
>>1299127
>It will even let us spot high Destiny to figure out good Kiss of the Sun targets
But aren't people with high Destiny typical Exaltation targets? Giving people Kiss of the Sun makes it harder for them to Exalt, because it's harder to do something life-threateningly heroic to attract a shard's attention if you're never in life-threatening danger.

Should we make a quick prayer to Nysel and make sure someone is aware that we have Alchemical in need of resources and ready to go to war over it? I figure this is below the notice of The Unconquered Sun but someone should be told.
Also could someone explain why EF plans to move to Anokin? What's wrong with 4chan and does he have an account there already that I can monitor?
>>
>>1302821
We should wait to talk to Amata before we decide so we have an idea on how they'll react.

Best case scenario they help out some or at least just tell us to deal with it on our own.

Worst case Heaven decides to actually do something and comes down on Gem full force.
>>
>>1302821
According to EF, it's not a problem with 4chan as a platform for the quest, it's that he's busier and busier lately and so has fewer opportunities to set aside a day to run the quest. With anonkun he can make a post or two daily and keep the quest chuggin' along without months long hiatuses.
