You are the former United States Navy warship USS HOEL, now returned as a shipgirl and ready to kick Abyssal ass!

Currently, you were looking at a very unusual looking shipgirl facing down a Ta-class Abyssal, a large lance held securely in her hands, a red and white pennant fluttering in the air. She was wearing what looked to be a medieval set of plate armor that seemed to be integrated with her Rig, and protruding from her back were a pair of steel "wings" with real feathers attached, similarly fluttering in the wind.

One look at her Rig, and you could immediately tell she was a fellow destroyer. Made a lot of sense, really.

"What's a Pole doing in the Pacific?" Repulse wonders aloud.

"How about you help me out with this damn kurwa first and maybe I'll answer your question!" The Polish destroyer spits as she dodges a volley from Ta-class, the heavy shells landing around her.

"Hoel, we've got Abyssal reinforcements incoming!" White Plains warns. "Me and the others are slowing them down, but they're going to link up soon!"

"How many?" You ask.

"At least two battlegroups!" White Plains grunts as you can hear the buzz of plane engines in the background. "Being led by some familiar faces!"

Crap.

"Come on, let's take this bitch down and get out of here!" You bark to Repulse.

"No objections there!" Repulse nods as her own guns begin to swivel and lock on to the Abyssal.

However, the Ta-class wasn't going to take this lying down. Already, her own gun turrets were rotating to try and engage the three of you simultaneously. Sure, she was outnumbered, but you could tell she was packing 16-inchers, which would blow through even Repulse's armor, which wasn't all that great to start with, anyways.

The Ta recoils as a rain of low and high caliber shells plunge into her, explosions rippling across her body as her once ivory skin bleeds and burns, her turrets bursting like overripe fruit. However, she manages to withstand the bulk of the barrage, her many remaining turrets begin to rotate...

And you manage to nail her right in the optics with a well placed HE shell. The Ta shrieks and flinches as she tries to clear the fire and debris from her eyes, giving you a critical opening.

"Batter up!" You grin as you lunge forward and swing your bat in a wide, lateral swipe. It impacts with the Ta's skull with a heavy and satisfying THUNK. The Abyssal gurgles and gasps before falling limp, her body dropping into the water.

"That was my kill!" The Pole whines in annoyance as she stomps her armored boot into the water, creating a small splash. "You stole it!"

"Correct, I secured it." You chuckle. "Anyways, I didn't catch your name..."

"I am ORP Błyskawica of course!" The polish destroyer says proudly, her lance still held securely in her arms. "The best ship of my class!"

"Weren't there only two of you in your class?" Repulse snickers.

"Why you-" Błyskawica glowers.

"Whoa, whoa, let's calm down! It ain't over yet!" You yelp as you stand between the two European ships. "First things first, we gotta get outta here!"

"Easier said than done." White Plains sighs as she finally catches up to you, Yahagi and Dorsetshire maintaining a perimeter. "Those Abyssal reinforcements are already practically on top of us. I've already called the Captain for extraction, but it's going to take a while."

"I'm not sure if he can even send a bird." Dorsetshire shakes her head. "That anti-air Abyssal is closing in on us."

"I think we should keep moving." White Plains suggests. "If w can get into air cover range of Japan, they should back off."

"Assuming they care, and assuming they don't catch up with us first." Yahagi grumbles and points to White Plains. "You're not exactly a fast ship, and the Abyssals you spotted were a light force, designed to chase larger ships like us down."

"Ha! Then the simple solution is to fight them!" Błyskawica boasts. "These kurwas haven't even been a challenge!"

"Wait, what's a Pole doing in the Pacific?" Dorsetshire's eyes widen in surprise.

"Hey, let me think!" You snap.

"Our only chance is a fighting retreat." You sigh. "We'll head south at full speed and engage whatever makes contact with us."

"Understood." Dorsetshire nods. "Repulse, you take point."

"Roger that!" Repulse salutes and speeds on ahead.

"We'll try to keep White Plains protected in the center of our formation." Dorsetshire continues.

"Thanks." White Plains nods.

"How are your planes?" You ask her.

"Still functional. I had a few extra squadrons packed." White Plains grins weakly. "What do you need me to do?"

"Focus on air cover. If the Abyssals have planes, you need to keep them off us." You say.

"Got it." White Plain nods. "Don't worry, you won't have to worry about the skies."

"I know." You grin as you pat the escort carrier on the shoulder.

Your little ragtag group then proceeds south at full speed in an effort to gain as much distance from the Abyssals as possible. White Plains' Hellcats circle overhead, chasing away the odd scout plane trying to probe your defenses, but they continue to trial behind, constantly relaying your position to the main Abyssal forces.

"This is so booooooring." Błyskawica groans as she casually draps her lance across the back of her shoulders.

"Don't worry, there will be plenty of other chances to get in a fight." You assure her. "Not like the Abyssals are going to sit around forever.

"And my god it's so hoooooot!" The Polish destroyer tugs at her armored collar. No doubt that suit of armor was cooking her alive. "How do you all survive out here!?!"

"Barely." Dorsetshire grumbles in sympathy.

"Ha! I feel perfectly fine!" Repulse toots.

"Your armor isn't exactly the thickest." Yahagi grins.

"Dohoho, funny words coming from you, ya git." Repulse retorts, pointing at the Japanese cruiser's exposed legs and midsection.

"W-what are you trying to imply?!" Yahagi stammers.

"You know what, you all aren't so bad!" Błyskawica chuckles.

"Incoming contacts!" White Plains barks. "Fast ones!"

You pulse your radar behind you, and sure enough, you could see a swarm of Abyssal destroyers and light cruisers of various types chasing you, all led by a certain and very angry Destroyer Princess who was leading the pack.

"We need fire solutions!" Dorsetshire calls out to you.

"Concentrate fire on the regular Abyssals!" You order. "Thin them out as much as you can!"

"Roger." Dorsetshire says simply before her cannons roar, quickly joined by Repulse and Yahagi's own guns. 8-inch and 15-inch shells sail over your head, landing among the oncoming Abyssal fleet. Explosions and splashes of water ripple across the Abyssal line as these smaller combat forms simply could not stand up to heavy shells.

But the DD Princess remains unfazed, and in fact picks up speed at a blazing rate. You could see an ominous red light grow in intensity as the legless Abyssal closes in not just on your squadron, but you specifically, her expression twisted with hate and fury.

She was coming in too fast for the cruisers to adjust their aim in time, leaving it up to you and Błyskawica to ward her off. However, you weren't too sure how this destroyer would stand up to her, and she was the mission objective, after all...

"C'mon, Bly!" You grin as you speed forward to meet the DD Princess. "Let's take this bitch down!"

"Aha! A battle worthy of my wings!" Błyskawica laughs confidently as the both of you charge.

However, the DD Princess is already wise to your tricks, and her side mounted torpedo launchers begin vomiting out a massive and thick spread in your path.

"Pah! Child's play!" Błyskawica laughs as she thrusts her lance out, plunging the tip into the water and using it like a lever to flip an oncoming torpedo straight out of the water, making it sail harmless over her head.

You weave your way through the barrage of torpedoes with relative ease, your small size and maneuverability being the key factors. However, a few tossed depth charges and a swing or two from your bat helped as well. You and Błyskawica pierce through the torpedo wall, but the DD Princess is ready and waiting, her cannons firing off in rapid succession.

Błyskawica pay no heed, the shells bouncing an digging into her armor as she charges, lance lowered like a jousting knight, the attached pennant fluttering furiously with her movements.

Your missile launch, streaking over Błyskawica's head as they make a beeline for the DD Princess. However, she's not just quick, but lightning quick, She jets backward in a rapid zigzag, proving too much for even your missiles to catch up and they slam into the water, exploding relatively harmlessly, but at least showering the DD Princess with shrapnel.

One of your missiles looks like it's going to be a solid hit, but your optics just barely catch a gun shell zipping in and piercing straight through your missile with almost laser accuracy. Your radar automatically tracks the trajectory of the shell further back to another Abyssal, smug looking and scantily clad, but also sporting a set of very mean looking dual purpose guns. The AA Destroyer Princess White Plains warned you about, you presume.

She was definitely slower than the DD Princess, and was still a ways back, but with that kind of pinpoint accuracy, you weren't sure if you wanted to leave her alone for too long.

Meanwhile, Błyskawica charges in at the DD Princess, her lance flashing as she thrusts in a flurry of attacks, easily managing to keep pace with the impossibly quick Abyssal.

You leave the DD Princess to Błyskawica, trust the little warrior destroyer to be able to handle herself. You can hear the metallic spearpoint of her lance clank and clash as she duels with her Abyssal opponent.

Meanwhile, you surge forward, seeking to keep the AA Princess suppressed and prevent her from firing on Błyskawica. Meanwhile, Dorsetshire, Yahagi, and Repulse continue their long range bombardment on the rank and file Abyssals, thinning their numbers and forcing them back as the sea becomes choked with oilblood and corpses.

"Oh my, so brave of you to come face me alone~!" The AA Princess giggles. "My poor sister speaks so ill of you and that little Canadian that put out her eye! Perhaps she'd like your head as a birthday present!"

"Come and get it then." You spit, wondering just how you were going to engage this bitch. Her Rig seemed tuned for ranged combat, which means at worst, she'd be on par with you in a ranged fight. If there were some way for you to get close though...

No time to think, you needed to get this damn AA Princess out of the way and quick! You rev up your engines and boost forward with a blinding speed that rivaled even the DD Princess, your wake kicking up water as you jet towards your target.

The AA Princess responds by swiveling her many cannons forward to target you...

You try to duck and weave to avoid the incoming fire, but the AA Princess' guns are specifically designed to swivel fast and fire faster. Almost immediately you're showered with a storm of shells. Low caliber shells, thankfully, barely able to punch through even your relatively thin armor, but the barrage tears at your clothes and chips away at hull. You return fire as well, scoring a few hits yourself on the AA Princess, but it's clear she has the advantage here. One stray shells strikes you in the forehead, cutting a deep gash and dripping blood into your right optic. Another volley of shells goes low and strikes your left leg, tearing it up and effectively halving your speed.

"Fuck!" You grimace as you counterflood and focus your weight on your undamaged leg.

This was not going well. You hate to admit it, but you needed to disengage.

"D-Dorsie, I need fire support!" You gasp. "I need you to retarget the AA Princess!"

"Acknowledged!" Dorsetshire responds.

Almost immediately, the shell fire shifts targets, the heavy shells now falling around the AA Princess, showering her with seawater. The Abyssal grimaces, realizing that there was no way she could stand up to such firepower.

"Until next time~!" The AA Princess blows a kiss to you as she falls back.

Bitch.

The DD Princess, sensing weakness, attempts to turn back to hit you, but Błyskawica is adept enough to keep hounding her, her spear continually poking and prodding at the Abyssal...

Błyskawica lets out a Polish war cry as she swings her lance around in a wide arc, intending to catch the DD Princess in the side. However, the Abyssal's reflexes are quick, and she manages to dodge away. The DD Princess then glares at you, but with the cruisers starting to move up and her compatriot falling back, even the rage fueled DD Princess knew the odds were stacked against her. With one last snarl at you, she turns tail and boosts away.

And with her gone, you could hear the distant sounds of helicopter rotors. Maybe it wasn't just the cruisers the DD Princess was concerned about. You collapse on your ass, your damaged leg aching and burning as your faeries begin crawling out of your Rig to perform damage control, one of them helpfully swabbing up the blood leaking into your eyes.

"Ha, that was pretty gutsy of you." Błyskawica sails up to you.

"You're not gonna chase her?" You raise an eyebrow.

"Ha! If I did, then I'd be disappointing someone really dear to me!" Błyskawica laughs and shakes her head. "Besides, like you said, they'll be back."

And with that, Błyskawica gives her lance a twirl and it winks out of existence as it desummons. She then reaches her arm down to you.

"Need a hand?"

"Thanks." You nod as you take Błyskawica's hand and she pulls you up and helps support you.

"Such a sloppy attack. As expected of a Yankee." Yahagi shakes her head. "Truly disappointing."

"Huh? But you were the one yelling to shift fire to support her when she got hurt!" Repulse frowns in confusion. "You're giving me some mixed signals here..."

"I-It's only because Yamato-senpai would worry if something were to happen to her!" Yahagi huffs a bit too quickly. "My duty is to ensure Yamato-senpai's well being, after all!"

"Uh huh." Repulse nods blankly, not quite convinced.

"Now now, let's not judge her so quickly." Dorsie intervenes. "What Hoel did really was rather reckless.

"Yeah yeah, just get it aaaaaaall out." You roll your eyes.

"At least everybody got out of it okay." White Plains points out.

"Except for the Russians." The Captain says darkly as leans his head out of the Osprey that's now come to a hover over the water's surface. "Hurry up and get in."

None of you need to be told twice as you all pile in to the Osprey. However, there was a bit of unease in the air. It was a bit unusual for the Captain to personally come out to meet on an extraction.

"So you're Błyskawica." The Captain states, not asks.

"Uh huh!" Błyskawica nods confidently.

"We'll talk later." The Captain then turns to you. "I heard that there was an... 'incident' between you and the Russians during the mission."

"They had a couple planes harassing us, the Abyssals took shots at them, and they thought it was us." You sigh.

"As I thought. I'll smooth it over with them." The Captain shakes his head. "Though I suppose it will ring hollow with the losses they suffered.

That's right, there was a Russian task force that had moved to intercept the DD and AA Princesses. Considering the two Abyssals had been pursuing you until just now, the Russians obviously weren't successful.

"They unfortunately thought they could handle two high level Abyssals with their own conventional forces." The Captain grumbles. "Though I understand you were still in the area?"

"We were prioritizing the mission." You say simply. It was the truth, after all.

"I figured." The Captain nods as he glances at Błyskawica. "You won't be hearing any words of misconduct from me. Now..."

The Captain then turns fully to Błyskawica and asks the obvious question.

"What's a Polish destroyer doing in the Pacific?" He asks. "Usually when a shipgirl manifests, they have some connection to the place they appear."

"Ah, well, it's kind of fuzzy, really." Błyskawica scratches her head. "I remember... lots of clouds and lightning. Stormy weather. I wasn't sure where I was or which way to go, but I had sort of... feeling? A feeling that someone familiar was here somewhere, and, well, here I am."

"I see." The the Captain raises an eyebrow. "I suppose we'll hand this in the proper debriefing."

With that,t he Captain returns to the front of the Osprey, where, he begins discussing some boring command stuff with Dorsetshire, leaving you along with Błyskawica for the moment.

"Hey, um, Hoel, right?" Błyskawica asks, still unfamiliar with your name.

"Yep, that's me." You nod in confirmation. "What's up."

"Well..." Błyskawica looks around and leans in. "You don't happen to know a ship named Haida, do you?"

Wait... that Haida?

"Haida? Never heard of her." You shake your head.

"R-really?" Błyskawica seems to droop at the revelation.

"Haha, just kidding! I totally heard of her!" You laugh as you slap the Pole on the back. "She's small, red haired, cute, and has an unhealthy obsession with knives?"

"Yeah!" Błyskawica's eyes brighten. "So she IS here?!"

"Yep!" You confirm.

"Haha, so that feeling in my mind wasn't wrong!" Błyskawica sighs with relief. "For a second there, I thought I was going crazy or something!"

"Feeling?" You raise an eyebrow.

"Mhm. Well, maybe something akin to a voice." Błyskawica puts a hand to her chin. "It's, well, kinda of hard to explain. When I came back, I just knew what general direction to go..."

"Huh, weird." You frown. Sounded like another matter to ask Mulberry if you ever found the time.

"We're almost back at base." White Plains reminds you. "Should we notify Haida that Błyskawica is here?"

Apparently they were. From the wiki,

>In July 2006 the preserved Canadian destroyer HMCS Haida was "twinned" with Błyskawica in a ceremony in Gdynia, Poland. Both ships served in the 10th Destroyer Flotilla during the Second World War. The ceremony was attended by former crew members of both ships and the general public. The ship was visited in 2009 by Prince Charles, Prince of Wales, and his wife, Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, and on 29 June 2010, at Government House in Nova Scotia, Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, presented to representatives of HMCS Haida the World Ship Trust Certificate.[12]

"Nah, let's keep it a surprise." You snicker. "Tell her come and meet us, but don't tell her why."

"Oooooh, that's mean." White Plains gives a sly grin. "I like it."

The Osprey then begins to make its approach, and Błyskawica mashes her face against the viewport to get a better look.

"Oh my god, this base is so biiiiiiig!" Her eyes shine as she marvels at the scale of Yokosuka base.

"Yeah, well, there's plenty more to see." You grin.

At this point,t he Osprey completes its approach and begins to drop altitude, lowering the boarding ramp as it does so. However, as it does, Błyskawica just so happens to catch sight of a slightly confused Haida making her way to the pad.

"HAI HAI!" Błyskawica squeals as she leaps out of the still airborne Osprey like a guided missiles, slamming right into Haida's chest and sending both destroyers rolling on the ground before it ends up with Haida on her back and Błyskawica straddling her chest, the Pole having the dumbest and most endearing look on her face.

"B-Bly?!" Haida sputters. "H-how-?!"

"I KNEW I'D FIND YOU AGAAAAAIN!" Błyskawica squeals again as she nuzzles her head against Haida's.

"Fuck, why am I feeling kind of jealous?" You frown as you watch Błyskawica practically molesting Haida in a way that only true friends ever could.

"Gee, I wonder." White Plains rolls her eyes as she walks past you.

"You better not be thinking about cheating on Yamato-senpai." Yahagi growls as she passes by as well.

"I thought you didn't want me together with her." You reminder her.

"O-of course! That's what I meant!" Yahagi huffs as she increases her pace.

"Um, I'm not too sure what's going on but, er, good luck, I guess?" Repulse shrugs. "Now, time to see if anybody serves fish and chips here!"

"Repulse, wait-" Dorsie tries to head off the impulsive battlercuiser but is too late. "Oh no..."

Well, turn your gaze back on Błyskawica and Haida, apparently a match made in heaven. That was one more quirky shipgirl added to the collection.
