“The plan is…” Admiral Reike steps around his office, observing all of the pictures of various Yuuzhan Vong Princesses. Defiant stands by the door, waiting for an order dutifully. You meanwhile sit down, watching him. “We capture a Yuuzhan Vong Princess, figure out what makes them tick. To defeat an enemy you must know them, the Grand Admiral understands this. I’m sure you understand this as well, considering I’ve groomed you quite well at the Academy. And once we find out how they work, we’ll be another step closer to victory against the Vong.”

“So… what’s the plan then?” you ask cautiously.

He points to the Super Star Destroyer Princess, a large woman similar in height and even bust to Executor. Her face was partially shrouded by a large hood from a flowing black cloak, with her arms wreathed with chains and spikes. Beneath the shadow of the hood, her eyes glowed a near solid red, with pinprick little pupils in them. “That is our target, Admiral.”

> SUPER STAR DESTROYER PRINCESS <
> LUS@&*Y! <

“A Super Star Destroyer Princess?” You stand up, walking up next to him. He pauses, folding his arms and gazing upon the Princess. “I mean, a Corvette I can understand, a Cruiser, maybe. But a Super Star Destroyer Princess requires a huge force of ships to even match evenly. How do you expect to capture one?”

“I called in a favor from a few friends of mine in the Biolabs,” he explains. He snaps his fingers. Defiant walks up to him, then places a vial of green chemicals in his hand. He presents it to you. “This is a specialized knockout gas. It’s derived from the same pesticides we used on the Geonosians. Very powerful, can kill you if you inhale too much of it in fact.”

“And you want to use this?” you ask. “On a Yuuzhan Vong Princess.”

“We’ve already tested this on our own Starship Girls in the past. Dazes them, knocks them out in two minutes,” he explains. That makes you wince a little. Well, obviously he had to get test subjects somewhere you suppose. “I already have the personal blessing of the Emperor and Lord Vader to go forward with this Operation, Admiral. And I would like for you to be part of it. What do you say?”

“Depends, what exactly is the range of what’s essentially a chloroform rag in space?”

Admiral Reike grunts, rubbing his chin a bit. “The original plan was to have it be deployed by torpedo from long range . We actually tested this in an earlier skirmish with this Super Star Destroyer Princess. No, she’s smart enough to either dodge the torpedoes or shoot them before they reach her. Time-delay fuzes as well are an issue as while they can explode in front of her, she could most likely move out of the way very quickly. We don’t expect gas to disperse out into space very well.”

“So how is this done then?” you ask.

“We’re going to need to park some ships point blank to catch her in a tractor beam, then we can simply throw the gas pots at her from a nascent distance while it’s pinned in place. That does mean we need to sacrifice some ships, but I believe the advantage of the research we gain will outweigh the losses we will inevitably sustain,” he explains.

“So. Charge a Super Star Destroyer Princess who likely has a large escort, sacrifice some ships to pin her in place with tractor beams whereupon we can throw the gas bombs at her from point blank range so she can’t just simply move away from the gas.”

“Indeed,” he says. “That’s where the Starship Girls come in. I need those fleets to eliminate the escort.” Defiant brings up a datapad to him. He takes it, nodding to her before he starts moving through its information. “This Super Star Destroyer Princess has been poking and prodding at our defenses at Kuat for months now. It’s eliminated countless freighters and several pursuit fleets. It’s also personally responsible for the sinking of four of my own Starship Girls. Even if we fail and she’s somehow killed, it’ll still be a service to the Empire to see her eliminated.”

“How big is the escort?” you ask.

“Twenty cruiser-class, five Star Destroyer-class, two Carrier-class, fifteen corvette-class.” That is… quite a lot of them. “We’re expecting a large anti-star fighter screen and a relatively thick defensive formation. But with the job of escorting it around, this is not the most mobile Fleet they have at their disposal. In fact, they move at snail’s pace.”

“Right.” You place your hand on your hip, scratching your chin with the other. Hm. Think of the glory for one thing. Killing a Princess is one thing. Capturing one? Turning the tide of the war? That wouldn’t just secure a post commanding a Super Star Destroyer. That could secure a post commanding an entire Fleet! You could even command Death Squadron! Oh, the possibilities.

“Judging by that expression, you seem to be in agreement.” He hands the datapad to you, then pats you on the back. “Study it. Let me know when your Fleet is ready, and we will move on your mark, Admiral.” With that, he motions you out of his room.

“Yes, Admiral Reike.” You grin. Oh, the possibilities now. You shake your head. This is too good to be true.

And all you have to do is sacrifice some ships potentially. BUT, your Starship Girls theoretically should be fine just eliminating the escort. How powerful can one Super Star Destroyer Princess be anyway?

Agility and Black Hawk yawn a little as you gather up the girls. Prosecutor has set aside a briefing room for you while you and F4 consult things quietly to the side. “Sir, I do not think this is the greatest idea,” says F4. “Of course, I am programmed to help you, much as I don’t want to.”

“Quiet you,” you say. “We’ll get through this in good order.” You step up to the front once all the girls are seated. “Alright, sorry for interrupting your sleep, everybody. But listen up. Here’s the deal, we’ve just got a mission that may turn the war in our favor.” The girls all stare, apparently skeptical. Finalizer though is engrossed. “Admiral Reike has come up with a plan to capture a Yuuzhan Vong Princess.”

Resolute leans forward, almost standing up out of her chair. “You what.”

“Capture a Princess?” asks Redemption. “Oh my, that sounds awfully risky.”

“Why are we capturing them!?” yells Profundity. “We should be destroying the Vong! Wherever they are!”

“Now, now, listen.” All the girls murmur and whisper to each other quietly. “Listen. His plan is relatively solid. We have gas bombs that’ll knock out the Vong Princess in two minutes, allowing for pretty easy retrieval. But, the ships will have to approach her at near point blank. However, that won’t be your job. Your job will be to eliminate her escorts, so that we can do this in relative peace.” F4 rolls up, then projects the Order of Battle for the Yuuzhan Vong Fleet. “Our target is a Super Star Destroyer Princess.”

“This has gone from insanely risky to downright impossible,” says Resolute. “How do you plan on capturing the Super Star Destroyer Princess escorted by a Fleet that size?”

“Our Fleet will be supported Admiral Reike’s fleet, and the ships he has at his disposal. These include his current flagship the Redeemer, a Praetar-II battlecruiser, along with ten Acclamators, five Arquitens, three Interdictors, five Star Destroyers, ten Carracks, and two Ton-Falk carriers which will be carrying the gas weapons. The Acclamators and Star Destroyers will form the center line and proceed directly to the Super Star Destroyer in an all-out charge. They’ll pin in her place with their tractor beams, allowing the Ton-Falks to close in and deliver the payloads.”

Acheron raises her hand. “Allow me to ask, Admiral. But how are they supposed to close the distance with a Super Star Destroyer Princess without taking damage?”

“Yeah, you we have some kind of shield or some kind of battle plan to divert her attention?” asks Prosecutor. “If the Fleet charges her outright, they’ll be slaughtered.”

“No. This is the plan as Admiral Reike has made it,” you explain to them bluntly. “Our two fleets will be deployed on the flanks. It’ll be your duty to eliminate the escorts to allow the big ships to have a decent shot at the Super Star Destroyer Princess.”

Resolute walks up to the hologram of the Order of Battle. F4 presents a tactical map for her for reference. She points down to it. “We’ll need to thin out the escort out then by spreading them out. If we can bait them into pursuing us, or perhaps feign weakness and bait them into attack, we can string them into a protracted battle. We have the strength to take on most of the cruisers and the Star Destroyers, but the anti-fighter screen by those corvettes will mean our own fighters will be worthless.”

Acheron says, “And despite everything, unfortunately our own corvettes and myself can only take on so many fighters at once.”

“This is a difficult situation,” says Resolute.

Prosecutor says, “But I believe the Admiral can bring us through it. Can’t you, Admiral?” You nod. Of course you can! Besides, eliminating the escorts is an easy job in comparison to having to deliver the payload.

Agility huffs, pumping her fist. “We can take them on! This is nothing!”

“Yeah!” says Black Hawk. “When are we going?”

“Let us at ‘em!” yells Profundity. “I will lead the attack and show all of you how to properly battle with the foe!”

“We’ll set out in the morning when you’re all rested,” you order. “So I suggest getting an early sleep. You too, Corvettes.” The corvettes stand up and salute, then immediately run off for bed. “Take after them girls, go on and get some rest. It’ll be difficult but it’s not unwinnable. Go on.” Everyone stands up out of their chairs, quietly filing out of the briefing room.

Prosecutor says, “I’ll be ready to command tomorrow, Admiral.” Of course she will. You nod to her, and with that, she steps out as well. That just leaves…

Resolute. She looks at you, very skeptical. “You believe this will work?” she asks.

“Of course,” you say. “Admiral Reike tells me the lives lost in this operation will be outweighed by the gains we make once we learn more about how Vong Princesses work. You gotta know the enemy to beat them.” She stares at you, apparently knowing you’re just quoting him however indirectly or directly. “Listen, Resolute, you needn’t worry. I’ll be there to command you.”

“It’s not that I’m worried about losing, I am. I’m more worried about what will happen to the Princess,” says Resolute. Is- Is she serious? She’s concerned for the life of something that’s already killed probably hundreds of people and sunk at least four Starship Girls already? “There’s something about the Princesses I feel we do not realize yet. And at the same time, I know Arc Hammer’s story. And I know what Admiral Daas Reike is capable of when he’s given access to a lab and a test subject.”

“Oh.” You sigh, rubbing your forehead. “So what then, you just want me to refuse to go, Resolute? Is this what’s going on?”

“No, that’s not what I’m saying,” she says. “I-… I was just stating my mind.” She huffs, blushing a bit. “Why do you make things so difficult?”

You smirk. “Hey, you love it, don’t lie.” She rolls her eyes at that. She taps her foot impatiently, biting her lip. “Look. Come tomorrow, we’ll seal ourselves a nice victory. And we move onto bigger and better things. Think about it!” You wrap your arm around her shoulder, motioning your free arm around for scale. “Our own Super Star Destroyer, our own Fleet- no!” You poke her in the chest. “Death Squadron, and the Emperor’s blessing on us.”

She gently pushes you away, glaring at you. “So it’s only glory you’re concerned with.”

You snort. “Hey, you’ll be safer on a Super Star Destroyer than an old Victory. And anyway, there’s nothing wrong with wanting glory out of things, you gotta find some way to enjoy the things we do after all.” You keep on smirking. “Good night, Resolute. Okay?”

Resolute blinks, looking at you sternly. But then she sighs. “Good night, Admiral.” With that, she turns away, leaving. Good, good. You look down at her bottom as she leaves. Very good, very good indeed.

F4 rolls up to you. “Shall we prepare a breakfast of champions for them tomorrow?”

“Nah, light breakfast. I don’t want them vomiting when we get out there.”

After a light breakfast of bacon and eggs, everyone gets to preparing their kits before boarding the Lucifuge. You watch from the hangar as Admiral Reike’s Fleet starts to form up outside of the Kuat shipyards themselves. It’s not Death Squadron, but if you were some random nobody you’d be awed by the sight of it. “Admiral.” Commander Fiennes steps up next to you. “The Lucifuge is ready to go on your command.”

“Thank you, Commander.” The Starship Girls line up, ready to board.

“Girls.” They turn their heads to look at you as you step up to them. “You’re all going off to do probably one of the most difficult operations this Empire has seen in quite a while. I expect the upmost confidence from each and every one of you to do your job. I don’t want to hear anything about failure or losing. What I want to hear is about how you’ll capture that Princess, and how we’ll avenge the lives it took. So go now, and know that I trust each and every one of you.” You clear your throat, nodding to them. “And that I love each and every one of you.”

“We love you too, Admiral!” Agility and Black Hawk jump up, then immediately over to you and hug you. Ooh, Corvettes. Please. “Haha! We’ll get her yet! Let’s go! Zooooom!” Agility leads the charge up Lucifuge’s loading ramp. The rest of the girls smile at you, happy to know that you said that.

Of course, you do love them. You love them almost as much as you love their bodies. It’s criminal that weapons of war are so attractive. You fold your arms, smiling. Commander Fiennes shakes your hand. “Excellent speech, sir.”

F4 rolls up to you. “Yes, very nice speech. I’m very inspired.” You gently punch him on the dome. “Ow.”

“Right.” You nod to Fiennes. “Let’s get to work.”

The Lucifuge has taken up the right flank of Admiral Reike’s Redeemer, a large battlecruiser. Bigger than a Star Destroyer, not quite a Super Star Destroyer those things. You were arranged in a very tight wedge formation, with the Ton-Falks in back, the Acclamators up front, the Star Destroyers to the sides, and the Carracks to the very flanks. Admiral Reike’s Starship Girls took up the left flank, and your own girls took up the right flank as well.

Now, you were traveling through space at casual pace. No hurry, at least not until you sight the Princess. The stars were stretched before you now.

Admiral Reike began calling orders. “Surveillance, do you see anything?” The surveillance he was referring to was the IGV-55 surveillance vessel, a listening ship built off of Gozanti-class cruisers. Originally built to intercept rebel transmissions, they’ve been retrofitted to scout and pick up Yuuzhan Vong signatures from long distances away.

“No, sir,” says the cyborg commander of the IGV-55. “Wait. We have bogies direct front. Large signatures matching your Yuuzhan Vong Princess, sir. Visual in five minutes.”

“Shields up,” you command. “Double front.” The technicians directed power to the shields, double front precisely. After five minutes, yes indeed, you could see them. Barely dots in space, now growing bigger and bigger.

[1/2]

[2/2]

“Sir.” The IGV-55 ship continues. “We detect the Yuuzhan Vong Princess along with all of her carrier, Interdictor, and corvette escorts. The Star Destroyers and cruisers are missing.” That barely makes twenty ships to protect her, none of them are particularly good at doing it against big ships like yours.

“Find them,” says Admiral Reike. “Keep speed for now.”

You fold your arms, glaring at the Vong ships in front of you. The Super Star Destroyer Princess is the most prominent in the center of the formation, her glowing eyes breaking through the shadow beneath her hood.

> SUPER STAR DESTROYER PRINCESS <

F4 rolls up next to you. “I have a bad feeling about this, sir.”

“Relax,” you mutter. Probably to yourself really. Last time you had a feeling like this, you almost died.

“Sir. We detect the Star Destroyers holding five parsecs away,” says the IGV controller. What? They’re leaving their best ships in reserve? Are they not taking you seriously?

Admiral Reike sighs. “Clever girl. She’s trying to lure us into a pincer maneuver.”

“What do we do?” you ask.

“Plan remains the same. Admiral, start thinning out their escort.”

“Prosecutor, lead the girls in. Attack then retreat back. Try and get those escorts to move away.”

“Copy!” Prosecutor waves forth. “Come on then! Let’s go!” The ships follow on after her in a thick wedge formation. To the left, Defiant leads Reike’s Starship Girls in the same manner. Your regular ships though were continuing the advance. And judging by the speed of the Acclamators and the Carracks, they weren’t planning on stopping to fight.

“All ships, Allecto is on point,” says Admiral Reike, the Allecto being one of the Acclamators up front. “Deploy TIE squadrons and keep them close on the Ton-Falks.” TIE Fighters deploy out of all the hangar bays, forming a relatively loose security pattern around the formation of ships. The two Ton-Falks, codenamed Rooks 1 and 2 were loaded to bear with gas bombs. “Closing in on target now. Rooks, prepare payload.”

“Copy that,” says the captain in Rook 1. “Commander Gree, stage the weapons.”

Prosecutor and Defiant’s teams end up on the wide flanks then fire off their turbolasers. They impact and connect with some of the corvettes, shattering two of them in fact. But they hold position for now. The carriers pull in behind the Super Star Destroyer Princess, who examines the battlefield carefully. The Princess fires back at Defiant’s team, inaccurate fire meant only to ward them away. Successful in fact, Defiant and company pull away. She fires again at Prosecutor this time, forcing them back.

But the escorts don’t pursue.

“Admiral, Admiral!” says Prosecutor. “They’re not pursuing!” Damn.

“Closing to two kilometers,” says your helmsman.

The IGV-55 reports, “Sir. We are picking up gravity well readings from the enemy Interdictors.”

“Alright,” says Admiral Reike. “We’ll-“

“Wait. The enemy Star Destroyers just made their jump. We’re also picking up the cruisers coming in as well.” Where are they jumping? If they jump into the midst of this, they’ll crash right into something! Unless. You squint at the Interdictors. Interdictors are designed to pull things out of hyperspace, they do it pretty efficiently so…

Alright, forget trying to thin out the escort. “Prosecutor, pull in around my ship!” Prosecutor executes the order wordlessly, hurrying the girls into a loose defensive formation around the Lucifuge. Commander Fiennes calls everyone to battle stations as he too realizes what’s coming. “Admiral Reike, we need to retreat! They’re going to cut off our escape!”

Admiral Reike however is thinking differently. “Nonsense. Who knows when we’re going to get another opportunity? Allecto, push to target.” The Super Star Destroyer Princess focuses her sights on the Acclamators. She spreads her arms out, presenting her massive array of cannons. Her cloak billows out, shooting forth a massive swarm of fighters and bombers out into the fleet. The Acclamators start taking grievous hits to their hulls.

“C- Copy!” yells the Captain of the Allecto. “Pushing to target! Shields, double front!”

The mad man! He’s actually going to try and fight this out!

“Sir.” The IGV-55 controller chimes in calmly. “Hyperspace signatures coming in. Three seconds.” A screen is put up for you, showing the tactical map of the area. Coming in now are five Star Destroyer-class Vong ships, along with the escorting twenty cruisers in battle line, in the rear at only half a kilometer away. That’s practically spitting distance.

“Shields all around! Now!” you yell. The ship starts shaking as it takes some hits from turbolaser fire. One of the Acclamators is immediately wiped out by the Princess, and one of the Carracks blown apart by the Star Destroyers. If there’s ONE good thing going on right now, it was the fact that the Princess is refusing to budge in the face of this bumrush.

“We just lost the Bombard!” says Commander Fiennes. “Gunner! Get the guns firing on any targets close enough to hit now! Get the TIEs in protective formation around our ship now!” The formation starts flagging, but you’re not out of it. Your own Star Destroyers pull in behind your lines to try and soak up fire. But who knows how long that will last.

“Protect the Admiral!” says Prosecutor. The cruisers speed in past the Star Destroyers, splitting up evenly to envelope the flanks. The Star Destroyers behind form a tight line. The cruisers engage at point blank with Reike’s Starship Girls. Defiant and Implacable fire a spread of proton torpedoes, but they succeed only in destroying one cruiser. The rest close in tight, forcing individual confrontations.

Defiant glares around, then her eyes widen as she realizes Hand of Justice is out of position. “Justice, back into formation!” Justice looks at Defiant in confusion. A second right before the Vong Star Destroyers slam her with turbolaser fire. “No! Justice is down! Critical-“ Turbolasers from the Princess crash into Defiant, blasting her back. “AGH!”

“Sir!” One of your technicians looks back at you in panic. “Admiral Reike’s Starship Girls are being enveloped, Defiant and Hand of Justice are critically injured, at risk of being sunk!”

“Admiral Reike.” Don’t sound like you’re begging but you’re begging. “We have to retreat.”

“We can’t, not with those Interdictors on the field,” he says simply. “Push to target.”

Son of a gun. He’s right.

There’s no choice except to fight.

Here was the battle line as it was now. The Battlecruiser Redeemer is set in the center of the wedge, with the Ton-Falks behind it, and two of the Star Destroyers behind them. The three Interdictors are shoved in a loose triangle around the Redeemer. The Arquitens are in a wider circle around the Interdictors. The Acclamators formed the point of the wedge, with the remaining three Star Destroyers behind them ahead of the command formation. And your ship the Lucifuge is parked next to the Redeemer.

This was not the ideal formation for when you’re surrounded and your only hope of escape shut out by enemy Interdictors.

Your Starship Girls were holding on the right flank, and Reike’s Starship Girl fleet on the left. However, Reike’s fleet was being mauled severely by the Vong reinforcements and by the Super Star Destroyer Princess. “Watch out!” yells Vigilance. Another one of the Starship Girls is blown away by the Princess’ turbolaser barrages. Liberator is down. “Liberator has been critically damaged! We have three ships dead in space at risk of being sunk!” she yells.

“Keep up the attack,” says Reike. “Don’t let up. Push to target.”

“Taking heavy fire!” yells the captain of the Allecto. The Allecto, the lead Acclamator in the formation is hit by high powered blasts and swarmed by bombers. “We’re losing the shields! We just-“ A bomber fires an explosive torpedo straight through the bridge. The rest of the Acclamator is shorn in half by the repeated barrages, the wreckage still traveling forth.

“Pursuer.” Admiral Reike calls out calmly. “Take lead now.”

“Y- Yes, sir!” yells the captain. “Sublights at full speed, shields to double front!” The Pursuer, another Acclamator in the formation, forces itself upfront. The Princess keeps on firing away, blasting holes and gashes into almost every ship in the formation. “Taking fire!”

“They’re taking us from behind!” yells Commander Fiennes. “Star Destroyer at seven o’clock!” One of the Vong Star Destroyers has broken formation and is moving to engage your ship directly. The other two Star Destroyers as well have broken their line and have started to put the squeeze on the formation.

Right, right. Only choice now is to either die a glorious death and win a medal or fight and hope that you can find a gap in the gravity wells and escape.

“Admiral, what are your orders!?” shouts Prosecutor.

“Save Admiral Reike’s girls, Prosecutor! Get them out of the fight now before they’re slaughtered!”

“Yes, sir!” Prosecutor calls up Resolute, VP, Finalizer, and Profundity to come in and form a loose shield all around the wounded fleet of Admiral Reike. The corvettes, led by Acheron, formed the anti-fighter screen.

Though… “If only I had some actual weapons, I could show you all how well I could fight!” yells Sundered Heart. Oh right. She doesn’t come with weapons. Oh well. You watch as the girls swoop in around Admiral Reike’s wounded Starship Girl fleet. Redemption starts carting the critically injured girls one by one to Battlecruiser Redeemer.

Your ship shakes. A console explodes, sending a technician across the bridge. “Report!” you yell.

“We just took a hit to the rear!” yells Commander Fiennes. “Damage minimal, but our shields are flickering from that firepower!” The Super Star Destroyer Princess paints your ship with more fire. You’re almost thrown from your feet. F4, being F4, simply magnetizes to stay in place. Darn droid! “Get some fire down on the closest ship!” The Lucifuge’s turbolasers start blasting away at one of the cruisers ahead, maneuvering to face its sides to both the front and rear of the formation.

“This is the Pursuer, we’re taking heavy damage!” The Acclamator Pursuer receives a devastating hit to the hull, igniting a fire. “We’ve got a fire in the torpedo bays! Get fire control there now, now!”

“Closing on target,” says Admiral Reike. The Pursuer explodes, an ammunition fire completely shattering the ship. Your Starship Girls watch in horrified awe before they’re shocked back into battle by more blaster fire. “Alright. Distance, two hundred meters. Star Destroyers, activate tractor beams on that Super Star Destroyer Princess.”

The three Star Destroyers move in overhead of the Princess. She looks confused for a few seconds. Then the tractor beams activate, pinning her in place. “Dropping payload!” yells Rook 1. The Ton-Falk disperses its gas bombs, which explode in the face of the Princess. She takes a deep breath in, coughing and wheezing. Rook 2 comes in after, swooping in another group of gas bombs. They explode too, dispersing the green smoke at her.

[2/2]

But it’s not over for her. She begins firing wildly, inaccurately, but still just as devastating. Her fighters start ramming themselves into nearby craft. One of the Star Destroyers is shorn in half by a turbolaser blast. Another turbolaser blast hits Agility. She screams, getting spun out into space. “Agility is down, critically damaged!”

“Agility!” screams Black Hawk. “No!” More panicked turbolaser fire comes out of the Princess. She seems to realize what’s happening. She struggles and writhes under the force of the tractor beams. More turbolaser fire comes out, aimed directly at the Starship Girls. “Ah!” Black Hawk is hit, blown away.

“Black Hawk is down!” says Prosecutor. “Watch-“ Prosecutor is hit.

“Sir, we’re losing Starship Girls, fast!” yells a crewman. “Black Hawk and Prosecutor are critically damaged! All Starship Girls dropping shields from those turbolasers!” The combined fleets put up shields as best as they can, but the panicked state of the Princess means she’s firing everything at full blast.

This reeks of a dangerous amount of "Imperial" strategy, which presumes overwhelming firepower in single units as well as overwhelming material advantage. It's clear the Vong are the ones who have both now, and that Reike's line of thinking is antiquated at best, a threat to humanity's survival at worst.

I say if we both survive we put a blaster bolt in his head and cut everyone's losses.
>>
>>1318177
This is the empire. If we fail we're to blame for not rushing forward. If we succeed he will take all the credit regardless of how much damage was done or losses we take.

The argument that could be made for him is:

1. Capturing that Princess is worth the loss of both our fleets combined. She's critical to the war effort.
2. It failed because we did not provide sufficient cover they made their assault. We first retreated instead of engaging the escort, then instead of pushing to secure the princess, we moved to cover downed ship girls.

This is a hit and run where all losses are acceptable and we're playing conservatively.

Our wanting to retreat shows our inexperience because we didn't target the interdiction from afar so that option was literally a no go.
>>
>>1318113
>> Interpose your ship between the Princess and your Girls.

>Also Have the crew get there oxygen masks.

Aim at the SSD Princess's turbolasers.
>>
>>1318197
Both of those are predicated on the same Imperial assumption that any losses can be absorbed, that resources and material advantage are unlimited. They're not, especially when you're already on the side that's struggling to even keep in the fight.

The inability or refusal to recognize a change in circumstances the most dangerous characteristic you could observe any leader. Making assumptions about the opposition, ie that they'll respond to "bait" the same way an Imperial would, is a close second.
>>
>>1318215
I'd say we wiffed the start of this no matter who's doctrine you're following. We should have opened fire on the interdiction after the fleet dropped in.

My concern is while you can say imperial doctrine is faulty, we're going to have to stress that... to the heads of imperial doctrine.

Not saying we're totally fucked. I'm saying we've got a rough road ahead. (Assuming we survive anyway.)

> Interpose your ship between the Princess and your Girls.

“Helmsman, get us across and protect our ships, now!”

“Yes, sir! Hard to port! Full power to sublights!” he declares. You and Commander Fiennes hang on as the ship propels itself across the battered and bloodied formation of Imperial ships. Another Acclamator explodes, but at the very least it took down two of the cruisers with it. A Carrack suicidally rams itself into one of the Star Destroyer-classes, blinding it for sure. One of your Fleet’s Interdictor’s as well blows up form sustained firepower from the bombers.

“We’re losing ships fast,” says the IGV-55 controller. “Advise general retreat when possible.”

“It’s still fighting!” yells one of the Star Destroyer captains. The Princess screams out, desperately choking for air as she starts to buckle underneath the knockout gas effects. She fires another burst of turbolasers, blasting apart one of the remaining Acclamators. She sights your girls again, then cries as she fires a full flurry of fire.

“Brace!” you shout. Your girls duck away. Just in time for your ship take the fire. You’re almost thrown by the impact of the shots. Commander Fiennes is knocked down. Even F4 is thrown onto his back from the impact. You see a fire burst out on the Lucifuge’s hull. “Damage report!”

A crewwoman explains it. “Fire on the hull, surface fire, it’s not spreading to the interior!”

“Sir, we’ve lost our starboard weaponry!” says another crewman. The ship shakes as it takes another hit.

“The cruisers, take out the cruisers!” yells out Prosecutor. With the Vong corvettes getting spread out and disorganized, the anti-Starfighter screen was starting to fall. That meant Finalizer, VP, Resolute, everyone who was carrying a squadron could finally deploy them. They zoomed in, bright flashes of explosions denting and breaking apart the Vong cruisers like an angry swarm of bees. Oh please, break them up.

Vigilance flies up. “Target that Interdictor, it’s our only chance!” Reike’s remaining Starship Girls fly up out of cover from your ship and fire a spread of proton torpedoes. One Interdictor tries to run, but is immediately blown to pieces. The other starts retreating back. Meanwhile, the Vong cruisers start closing to point blank range. The masses of metal and flesh start brushing up against Star Destroyers and Acclamators.

This was no longer a battle, it’s not a complete melee!

“The Princess!” yells the Star Destroyer captain. “She’s fainting!” The Princess coughs, her eyes flickering as she struggles to stay awake. “Deploy retrieval squads now and get her inside!” Cargo tugs deploy out of the Star Destroyer, hurrying to retrieve the Princess.

“All ships, rally around the Redeemer,” says Admiral Reike. One of the cruisers rams itself into the Redeemer’s hull, ineffectual.

“Sir. We are detecting Vong reinforcements coming in from hyperspace,” says the IGV-55 controller. “Ten Star Destroyer-class, thirty cruiser-class, fourty corvette-class, five carrier-class.” They WHAT!? “ETA fifteen minutes.”

“We need to wrap this up quick,” says Admiral Reike. “Get the Princess secured and target down that last Interdictor.” One of the Star Destroyer-class Vong ships suddenly rushes overhead of you, on fire and apparently severely damaged.

“Oh blast! FULL SPEED FORWARD!” The Star Destroyer captain in charge of retrieving the Princess is their target. “Evasive action! Eva-“ The ship collides with the Star Destroyer, blasting the two ships to pieces in a brilliant flash of light.

“We’ve lost our home ship!” says one of the Cargo tug crewmen. “We need retrieval now, now!” They have the Princess secured in a ray-shielded containment field.

“Flank speed on that utility tug!” you order. “Tug 3, this is the Lucifuge! We are coming in to secure your cargo, stand by!”

“Copy that!” yells the cargo tug crewman. The cargo tugs remain in space, being defended by the Carracks, Acclamators, and the various TIE Fighter squadrons. A flaming spinning out TIE speeds past your bridge window, slamming into the hull of the Redeemer as you advance on them.

“Girls, you use me as a shield,” you order loudly. “Come in behind me, then take shots at that Interdictor! This is our only chance! Go!”

Resolute takes command of your Fleet. “Follow me!” VP, Finalizer, Profundity, and Sundered Heart come in behind Resolute. Force of Commerce, Tellstar, and Redemption rescue your critically wounded ships and pull them into the Lucifuge’s hangar. They speed in using a line formation, then weave up and around. They fire off turbolaser shots at the Interdictor as it tries to retreat behind the safety of a carrier. Too late, some shots connect with its engine, blowing it apart. “We got the engine!”

Another Acclamator explodes as its mobbed by cruisers and bombers. “Get a tractor beam on that tug, bring it in.” You’re in range now, come on! A technician handles the retrieval of the tug and its precious cargo.

“We’re coming in now!” says the cargo tug crewman. “Stand by…”

A trio of bombers strafe the hull top, shearing a gash into the metal and causing another fire. “We’re hit again! Damage minimal, another fire on the surface!” says a crewman. Damage minimal your bum!

“We appear to be taking quite a lot of damage, sir,” says F4.

Commander Fiennes calls out another order. “Damage control crews to their stations! Get the astromechs out there to quell those fires!”

“We have the cargo!” says your hangar controlman. “We’ve secured it!” The Interdictor blows up just at that moment too.

“Admiral, the Princess is secure!” you call.

“All ships, jump to random coordinates and retreat to Kuat,” orders Admiral Reike. The Acclamators are already beginning evacuation procedures. One Acclamator unfortunately collides with a cruiser as it jumps, tearing both to pieces.

“Get us out of here, helmsman!” you yell. The helmsman responds affirmatively, plotting the jump. “Get the girls inside now too! Hurry!” One of the Star Destroyers retreats. The fleet is rapidly decaying as it begins its general retreat.

“Sir!” Commander Fiennes points ahead. A flaming cruiser-class is burning towards you, right at your bridge, flank speed. Uh. Oh no. Please no. “Brace! Brace!” You hold up your arms. No, no, no!

The cruiser suddenly stops in its tracks. Resolute has slowed it down significantly. VP and Finalizer come in too to halt it. They scream in exertion, pushing the cruiser upwards as it starts powering its thrusters to full. The helmsman does his best to squeeze the ship under them and into a clear point of space. “Go, Admiral! Go!” yells Resolute.

“Not without you, Resolute! Get on now! All of you!” You come up to the Helmsman. “Angle the ship, get our launch bays angled towards them now!”

“Yes, sir!” He directs the ship to roll left. You start feeling dazed slightly as the world suddenly turns on you. Commander Fiennes and R4 hold steady as the launch bays start angling towards your girls. “Angle ready!”

“Get in now!” you order. “That’s an order!”

“Going!” yells VP. She comes on inside. “Resolute! Go!” Resolute hesitates for a few seconds, then hurries on inside. A bomber squadron makes a run on your bottom. “Finalizer!” Your ship shakes and rumbles as it takes more hits from cruisers and corvettes still in the fight. Blast it! Finalizer rushes in last. “We’re all in!”

“Make the jump to hyperspace now!” you yell. “Now, now!”

“Calculating jump!” says the Helmsman. A console explodes in the work pit, starting a small fire. A cruiser barrages your engines. “Ah! Son of a- Jump ready!”

“Go, go now!” you order. A bomber suddenly flies in from the starboard side. “Forward firepower on that bomber now! Now!”

“Weapons are out, sir! We can’t-“

Commander Fiennes shouts out. “BRACE!” The bomber fires its payload directly at your bridge. Oh, blast. You take a deep breath, watching the molten slag rock come right at your bridge. This is going to hurt.

You’re all blown backwards as it hits the bridge. You feel yourself hit the back of the bridge, before you black out.

-

-

You open your eyes, sniffing the burning scent of fires. “Get the fires out!” yells a crewman. Okay. You’re still on the bridge. You look around to see the metal ceiling, and then see F4 standing over you. Some consoles have lit up in flames as crewmen try to put it out with extinguishers. Others lie dead from the impact, or are wounded and being tended to by doctors.

You stare at F4. “Huh. You’re the last thing I want to see.” He stares at you. “Scrap heap that you are, at least you’re okay but…” You look at him. Normally he has something snippy to say to you. Why is he just staring at you? “Uh. F4?”

“Sir.” He rolls backwards. “It’s Commander Fiennes.” What about hi- you blink. You see him lying on the floor, a piece of metal impaled through his gut and his blood splattered on the floor. You can see him faintly breathing, staring up at the ceiling. He keeps a tight grip on the metal shard, as if trying to pull it out himself yet having no strength to do so.

“Medic! MEDIC!” You crawl on over to him. Oh, your hip! Darn it! Did you make it into hyperspace!? What-… Darn, pain! You make it over to him, putting your hands on his wrist. “Don’t pull it out, you’re fine. Medic!” Commander Fiennes spits up some blood as a Stormtrooper medic comes over to you two. F4 rolls up to you. “You’re fine, okay? You got some help here.” Commander Fiennes looks to you with glossed over eyes. He seems to be in a state of shock it seems.

Oh man. If he dies, you are NOT taking care of his kids.

He reaches out to you, then grabs your collar. His blood stains the fabric a little. He pulls you close. “T-… t…” He’s trying to say something. The medic works on stopping the bleeding. He wheezes in, then coughs and hacks up more spittle and blood flecks. “A… a-…” His head rests back, and he shuts his eyes.

You blink. You look to the medic. “He’s passed out, sir,” says the Medic. “I’m detecting a collapsed lung and severe internal bleeding as well.”

“Well, keep him stable,” you say quietly. The medic nods. You sit back, scooting yourself back. Oh no, no. You can hear the medic radio in for more help and a stretcher.

A crewman exits out of the turbolift. “Admiral, sir.” You look to him. “The Princess has been secured. She’s currently knocked out and awaiting transport. We’re on our way to Kuat now.” He tilts his head. “Sir, you’re bleeding.” You touch your forehead, then see some blood on the tip of your fingers. Oh. Yeah. Yeah.

Another crewman comes over. “Sir, would you like the full damage report or should I wait until you’re better?”

“I’m fine, I’m fine. Are you okay, crewman?” You dust yourself down, blinking. You might have had your head rattled a bit really. Your priorities are strange. Why would you ask some random nobody if they’re okay or not anyway? They’re replaceable.

He nods, surprised at the question. “Y… yes sir, I am. Shall I summon a medic for you?”

“No, no. I’m fine. Just- how are my girls?” you ask.

“Prosecutor, Black Hawk, and Agility are critically damaged and are unconscious. The rest are also damaged, all of them in fact.” Oh, well, that’s great. At least nobody was sunk. That’s what’s important. You rub your chin, breathing heavily. “Sir, you probably saved Admiral Reike’s Starship Girls. I think he will be grateful for that.” You wave it off, yeah. Yeah. Whatever. You steady yourself, then have some crewmen come over to help you stand up. Slowly, you limp over to the bridge window.

The helmsman, a bloody bandage over his eye, looks back at you. “We’re arriving at Kuat now, sir.” You nod. You take another breath, holding your side. Ow, must have landed on it funny. The ship drops out of hyperspace to the very welcome and safe sight of Kuat. The Battlecruiser Redeemer is there already, with several smoking holes in it. Only two Acclamators and a Star Destroyer appear to have returned. Who knows, maybe the others will be back soon but… this is a very sorry sight.

The ships begin their docking procedures in the shipyards.

“Sir, message from Admiral Reike.” A runner comes up from behind you. He salutes you. “He wishes to extend his compliments for saving his Starship Girls along with facilitating the capture of the Princess at great personal peril to yourself. Guys i think we NEED to move the Princess somewhere else that is secret, why Kuat?
>>
>>1319314

Kuat is the most heavily defended planet we have, seeing as it's where the main shipyards are. We can move the Princess to somewhere more secret and less defended after we've proven the Vhong can't track her with the Force or some other ESP shenanigans.

Otherwise, we're potentially offering her up on a silver platter.

Shouldn't we escort our XO? He is the one that might actually die.

“I’ll see him later. Right now I need to check on my girls and make sure they’re okay.” The runner nods as you step past him. Have to at least make sure all the girls are okay. Please be okay, girls.

Prosecutor, Black Hawk, and Agility sleep in tanks of that same glowing liquid they use in the Repair Docks while the rest of the girls get examined by doctors and medics as well before they hit the docks. All of the girls had received damage of some kind. Redemption had taken more damage than most without having been injured critically like the three in the tanks. And the least damaged ship in your fleet according to Arc Hammer was Tellstar, who had suffered a very crushing hit from a proton torpedo.

Everyone was simply battered and beaten. But nobody was sunk. Finalizer smiles at you. “We made it, Lord Admiral! We’ve captured the Princess!”

“Haha!” Profundity raises her fists, surprising the doctors. “Success! We may not have routed the enemy but surely we will do them a crushing defeat today!”

“I-…” Finalizer glares at Profundity. “I was going to say that!”

Sundered Heart holds her head, groaning. “Can you plebs keep it down?” One of the doctors wraps a bag of ice against Sundered Heart’s head. She had been hit in the face by a fighter. “Everything hurts…”

Tellstar groans in pain, holding her stomach. “Those Vong hit us hard.”

“Hmph!” Force of Commerce huffs. “Y’all talk as if you weren’t confident the Admiral would get us out of there.” She nurses a hit to the right eye, an eyepatch now covering it up temporarily. “I declare, we did our job, we even showed Reike’s fleet who the real fleet is around these parts!”

Acheron tilts her head. “Several thousand Imperial navymen were also killed and several ships were destroyed too. I think that’s relatively insignificant to the gains we may get from the Princess.”

> “Acheron is right. We got lucky today.”
> “Cheer up. The Princess will offset these losses.”

> “I’m just glad you’re all okay. You did good.”

“I’m just glad you’re all okay.” Redemption smiles at you happily when you say that. The other girls wearily smile as well. Tellstar gives a thumbs up to that, nodding. “Profundity, Sundered Heart, good job on your first battle. You all did well. We’ll have a dinner of champions tonight, I’ll cook!”

Redemption giggle, smirking. “My, my, after all that and we get your cooking, Admiral?”

“Are you-“ You look at her. “Are you implying something?”

She waves it off. “No, no.”

“We’d love to have you cook for us!” says Tellstar. She hisses in pain, holding her stomach again. “Ow…”

“Get some rest in the repair docks. I’ll spend what instant repair buckets we have to fix all of you,” you state. Hopefully you have enough for all of them. You can’t afford to send out damaged ships into combat sorties or expeditions.

F4 rolls up into the door. “Admiral. Admiral Reike is ready for you.”

“Right.” You nod to them. “Hope this works, girls. We had to pay a pretty steep price for this.” Redemption’s smile falters a little at that. The girls all look nervously at each other as you step out of the room. Painful as it is, those ships and those men can be replaced easily by the Empire. You just have to make sure it doesn’t happen on a regular basis. These aren’t just droids you’re throwing away after all.

F4 swirls his dome around. “You didn’t tell them about Commander Fiennes?” he asks as you and him walk down the hall.

“I felt it prudent not to,” you say.

“The corvettes adore him,” says F4. “He’s very well-liked in your fleet.”

“Look, you say that as if he’s dead,” you say. F4 remains silent. “Besides, even if we lose Fiennes, I can replace him with someone better. Comes with the perks of command after all. Maybe even an attractive girl perhaps.”

“Heartless, sir. Just as I expected.” You snort at his response.

Admiral Reike welcomes you as the container keeping the Princess is slowly lowered down out of the Lucifuge. Scientists, Stormtroopers, and security men all hurry in. AT-ATs, AT-STs, even old antiquated AT-TEs are brought in for even more security in case she breaks out. Hazardtroopers guard the container. “Be prepared to load her up! She could be lethal!” The Stormtroopers ready their shock prods as the container is opened up. A pair of troopers walk in, then drag the knocked out Princess onto a secure bed. Her Vong ship equipment is strapped down to spare beds as well, with the guns and anything that looks lethal being muzzled over by cortosis plates.

No chances it seems. “Admiral. I must commend you on your derring-do during the battle.”

“Thank you,” you say. “My commander was unfortunately severely wounded and my ship also…” You look at the Lucifuge. “Also severely damaged.”

“You got lucky,” he says. “But you not only got the Princess, you also saved my Starship Girls. You didn’t have to honestly, there isn’t much to lose if Hand of Justice or Flurry had been sunk I suppose. But I won’t argue that.” That irritates you for a second. Hm. “But look at this now.” The scientists strap down the Princess to the roller bed, then muzzle her face. Her eyes open for a few seconds, causing them to back off.

“Get in there! Come on!” yells the Stormtrooper Captain. The scientists hesitantly get on either side of her, swarming her before beginning to cart her down.

“Hold it,” orders Reike. You both walk up to the cart, then look down at the Princess. She really does look like an evil, corrupted version of Executor. Her long flowing blued silver hair is in messy strands all around the bed. Chains adorn her arms and her waist like a sash as well. Her glowing eyes turn on you and Admiral Reike. “… Beautiful, isn’t it.”

She glares directly at you.

So. This is a Vong Princess. It doesn’t seem to realize what’s going on just yet. But it will soon. “Take her,” says Reike. He walks alongside the scientists as they lead her out of the hangar and down the hallway, where yet more Stormtroopers are ready. He looks back at you, a smirk on his crusty old face. “War’s turning, Admiral. Next time tomorrow, we’ll be heroes.”

You smile a little. Hero, huh? Not bad.

Much as you wanted to get to cooking dinner for the girls, something more pressing was calling your attention at the moment.

You were in the same labs where they experimented on and first birthed the Starship Girls. Their purpose now was to study the Yuuzhan Vong Princess. The scientists were dressed up in hazmat garb, with the gigantic Hazardtroopers guarding the doors in case the Princess did anything funny. They were hard at work unbonding the Princess herself from her ship. Unlike the equipment that could be summoned and taken off and put on at will by the Starship Girls, the Princess’ equipment was more… symbiotic. Scalpels are involved.

But thankfully, your appetite isn’t spoiled as not much blood is spilled. And indeed not very many cuts are required. Several tense minutes of careful surgery and the girl is cut free from the ship itself. Those are shipped away for further testing in a separate cell. While the Princess herself lays on a bed being scanned all over for anything that looks familiar or interesting.

Admiral Reike stands next to you, arms folded, stern look on his face. A scientist comes over. An Ithorian scientist. “Doctor. What’s the situation?”

The Ithorian wears a translator collar on his neck, allowing him to speak basic for ease of communication. “So far, Admiral. The Princess appears to be remarkably similar in construction to a human. I would say near-human in fact. Anatomical differences are nill save for the skin which we note to have a greyish pigmentation. Strange, but we’ll figure out what it is shortly, I’m sure.”

“Anything useful?” asks Reike.

“At this time, no. Prelimary blood samples however detect quite the midi-chlorian count. It’s not conclusive, we’re still theorizing whether it has any relation to how the rest of the Starship Girls function,” he explains. “As you know, Admiral, all Starship Girls are rather impressive carriers for midi-chlorians. Very interesting. We’ll put the Princess under the knife at your discretion.”

“For now, keep up the tests. No autopsy yet,” says Admiral Reike. The Doctor nods.

“You intend to kill the Princess? After all we’ve been through with it?” you ask.

“Only until after it stops giving us new information,” he says. “It’s a simple security measure, Admiral. We can’t simply let these things hang around.”

“Perhaps there’s more we can learn if we tried to talk to it, communicate with it. If it’s near-human, surely it speaks a language we can translate,” you say. “I just don’t see a reason not to try after all.” Admiral Reike rubs his chin, thinking on it.

The Doctor says, “Admiral. I believe the Admiral is right. Perhaps we can learn a thing or two from oral contact with the Princess. Cultural exchange may answer some questions we have about them. It may even be fruitful in the strategic level if it understands troop movements, locations of Worldships and concentration of Vong strength.” You and him stare at the Doctor. “… of course, what do I know about strategy, I’m just a Doctor.”

“Right.” Admiral Reike folds his arms, sighing. “We risk quite a bit trying to talk with it, Admiral. But I suppose it’s worth a try. Is it safe inside the lab?”

“Yes, Admiral.”

“Good.” Admiral Reike starts walking to the door. “We’ll have a chat with it.” You and Admiral Reike step into the lab, escorted in by the Doctor and a pair of Hazardtroopers. You can really feel the chills run down your arms and legs as you approach. Something about the Princess feels off, incredibly off. The scientists part away, leaving you enough room to stand on either side of the Princess.

The Princess lies on the bed, her eyes open. She’s strapped down considerably well, with two bracers on her wrists ready to inject knockout chems if necessary. Admiral Reike pulls down her hood, revealing her sharp red eyes. She looks at you then at Admiral Reike. She’s not fighting it. But it’s clear she’s terrified of her situation. She doesn’t even know what’s coming. Admiral Reike looks down at her. “Can you understand us?” She blinks, turning her head slightly. “My name is Admiral Daas Reike of the Imperial Navy. What is your name?” Still nothing but a horrified stare in his direction.

The Doctor holds up a scanner, looking down at it. “It’s heart rate is accelerating. It appears to be scared, Admiral.”

“As it should be,” says Admiral Reike. He steps back, grunting. “Hm…”

“Let me try, Admiral.” You dust down your collar a bit. Then you realize you still have a bit of Fiennes’ blood on it. Oh dear. Might need to get that checked later. You lean over, looking at her. “Hello there.” The girl turns her eyes to you. “Welcome to Kuat. My name is Admiral-“ The girl starts buckling in her straps. The scientists hold her down. She growls and hisses, trying to kick and struggle out of the restraints.

“Well.” Admiral Reike walks up to you. “It seems to like you.” You squint at him. Really? “We’ll bring in a protocol droid later.” Admiral Reike holds up a finger to you. “You might be onto something here, Admiral. She can be communicated with. First thing’s first, we’ll need to decipher their language or teach them ours. Either will do. But for now, I’m not too interested in keeping them comfortable.” He motions for a pair of hazardtroopers to bring in a coffin-like container. They wheel it up, then open up the side to allow the scientists. Inside is nothing but darkness. The Princess sees this, then immediately begins thrashing and screaming.

“Sedate it!” says the Doctor. They inject the sedatives into her systems. This doe not stop her from fighting back against her restraints as she’s slowly pushed into the container.

“Admiral.” This actually makes you feel incredibly bad for her. You watch as they close up the container. You can still hear the screaming and crying inside of it. You look to Reike, saying, “Isn’t that a little cruel?”

“To people, maybe,” he says back. “We’ll transfer to a secure cell in this facility. It’s already been constructed specifically to contain her,” he explains. He pats your arm, nodding to you. “You’ll have full access if you ever want to try and get something out of her. Until then…” He pats his belly. “I’m feeling peckish.” As do you actually.

Yet…

You decide it best for now to watch them transfer the girl. “I’ll supervise the transfer, Admiral Reike. If you please.” He nods, not bothering to question it seems. With that, steps away, moving off to get his own dinner it seems. The hazardtroopers take the coffin, then start carting it down with the escort of several scientists and the Doctor. “Uh, Doctor, tell me. What exactly is her cell like?”

“Oh?” The Ithorian Doctor examines his holopad in boredom. “Well. The cell is a high security prefab brought over from Kessel. The Empire used it to contain some particularly loathsome Jedi after the Purge. We’ve lined the room with cortosis plates, at considerable expense. She’ll be suspended in an electromagnetic field, to make sure she has no contact with the floor or the ceiling.”

“And lights?” you ask.

“Lights?” The Ithorian looks at you, confused.

“Well, she doesn’t seem too particular about darkness,” you say.

“Hm.” The Ithorian types something into his holopad. “I suppose we can get some floodlights installed really quickly.” You nod, shoving your hands in your pockets.

-

-

You observe as the Princess is suspended in the containment field by her arms and legs. Fields of magnetic power keep her floating in a half-ring powering the magnetic bracers on her wrists and her ankles. She looks down, her hood pulled over her eyes. The hazardtroopers check to make sure things are A-OK. For now, the only source of light in this chamber was the field, barely enough to light her up. The chamber itself was egg shaped, ending at a confined floor barely big enough to fit a rancor and joining at a camera in the ceiling.

If this could contain a Jedi, you suppose a Princess is no trouble.

“Right,” says the Doctor. “Everything ready?”

“Yes, Doctor,” says one of the Hazardtrooper. They move to the door, guarding it up in case something goes wrong.

The Doctor presents you a control console in front of the containment unit. “Press this button here to deliver an electric shock. Don’t worry, it won’t kill it. It’s meant to discourage.” You nod. He checks the time on his holopad. “I should get going. I’ll leave you to it.” The Doctor leaves without another word.

Hm. You fold your arms, looking up at the Princess. “… Can you hear me?” you ask. No response.

> Bah. Useless. Just retire for the night.

> “You know, we have some lights coming in. Just in case you don’t like the dark.”

You sigh. How do you talk to something that doesn’t even speak your language, much less understand? “You know, we have lights coming in. Just in case you don’t like the dark.” She turns her head up slightly, letting you see her eyes. Hm. “Are you afraid of the dark?” She blinks, then looks down again. Right. Lot of progress that does.

Well. Whatever. She’ll end up dead soon anyway. And what a waste of-

> Yes.

You blink. The hazardtroopers perk up as well. They heard it too.

> Please don’t leave me in the dark.

Your jaw drops a little. She’s speaking with you. You chuckle a little in disbelief. She can speak, she understands you! Wow. You lucked out. No language barrier to overcome! No spending years trying to decipher their language! “So you can talk! What is your name? Who are you?”

She drops her head down again.

“Come on.” You step up to her slowly. “You can’t just say something and go quiet like that.”

Well then. At least you know how Admiral Reike might torture her then. Hates the darkness. Every child does you suppose. You look at her up and down, at her torn clothes, at the chains on her arms and around her waist. Very attractive girl too. “Look. I’m not here to hurt you. I just want to know what you are.”

No response.

Well. Great. That was ineffective.

Someone calls you over the intercom. “Admiral.” It’s Prosecutor. “Admiral, it’s late.” Is it? Oh goodness, you probably missed dinner. Ah, after you said you’d cook for the girls too. Darn it. “Are you okay? Do you need me to come in there?”

“It’s fine, Prosecutor. Just give me a few more minutes, alright?”

“Um. Okay, Admiral.” The intercom cuts out. You shouldn’t keep her waiting too long. She’s probably worried sick about you. Heck, she probably thinks you’re neglecting her after you just witnessed her being critically damaged in the battle.

You sigh, then slowly lower yourself down to try and look at the Princess’ eyes. “Can you tell me your name? Who you are?” The Princess simply remains silent at that. She’s a tough nut to crack for sure. You stand up straight again. “If I bring the lights in, will you speak?” No response, though you do see her arms twitch a little. She only seems to respond to light and darkness. You look at the hazardtroopers. “You.” You point to the door guard. “How long until the lights arrive.”

The hazardtrooper asks quickly over his comms, then says to you, “ETA five minutes.” Good good.

Only need to wait five minutes. You stand around, looking at the girl, admiring every centimeter of her body. How the incredibly alien Vong have managed to get such beautiful women into their service is a complete mystery to you. Whatever the case, these five minutes waiting for the lights are quite awkward.

Finally, they do arrive. The technicians quickly set up a hasty floodlight tower and light it up, bringing more light into the chamber. Another floodlight is lit up as well, casting some light up on the Princess herself. She looks up, squinting a bit as if adjusting her eyes to the brightness. “There. You see?” You tilt your head. “Light. Is that you wanted?”

She stares at you, a very blank scowl on her face.

“I mean, I didn’t have to bring those lights in, so…” You shove your hands into your pockets. “Tell me your name. Come on. You have a name, yes?”

She looks down for a second, then back at you.

> I don’t remember.

“You don’t remember?” you ask.

> All I see are dark things, being trapped.

She looks down again.

“You’re not in the dark, not anymore. I can leave the lights on for you.” She simply stares down at the floor. Ugh, this is making you feel horrific. How is something that just killed thousands of Imperial officers and crewmen suddenly making you feel bad for them? You sigh. You’re messed up in the head. “Do you want me to stay with you?”

She simply remains quiet at that. The two hazardtroopers glance at each other, before looking at you. Well. That’s not a no. You sit down on the cold hard floor, then look up at her. “You know.” You tilt your head at her. “You killed a lot of Imperial soldiers today. I don’t imagine a lot of people have sympathy for you.” She continues being silent. “I just want to know your name, that’s all.”

Hm.

-

The door behind you opens. You can hear the very light footsteps of Prosecutor stepping in, with a fresh shift of hazardtroopers coming into to relieve the guard. “A-… Admiral.” You look back. “It’s late.” She holds a tray of food in her hands, pillowed by a fresh uniform for you. “You need to come to bed.”

“Yeah. Yeah.” You look back at the Princess. Prosecutor steps up next to you, then looks at her. The Princess still hangs her head low. “Sorry. I must have lost track of time, Prosecutor.”

“It’s okay,” she says. She looks at the Princess, and quietly she says to you, “She looks like she could Executor’s sister.” You nod. She’s right. You slowly stand back up, looking at her. The Princess lifts her head up again, then glances at Prosecutor. Prosecutor steps back, frightened a little. She takes your sleeve light. “Come on, Admiral. You need some sleep.”

“Alright, alright.” You slowly step back then start towards the door.

> “Get me a sleeping bag, Prosecutor.”

“Get me a sleeping bag, Prosecutor.”

She looks at you, confused. “Sir?”

“You heard me.” You take the tray and the clothes. “Sleeping bag.” Prosecutor looks at you, severely confused before nodding. She then walks out of the chamber. You turn to the Princess. You don’t know what compels you to do this. Honestly, maybe you just really do feel sorry for her. She’s going to be chopped up anyway. Suppose you just make her last few days comfortable.

After several minutes, Prosecutor returns with a sleeping bag for you and herself. “Prosecutor?”

“I’m not going to leave you alone with just a few hazardtroopers to support, Admiral.” She lays down the sleeping bags. Well, that’s fair you suppose. Some extra security is nice. You sit on down on your sleeping bag. The Princess hangs in there, limp in the containment field. “Do you know her name?”

“No. She doesn’t remember apparently,” you say. You take a bite out of an apple slice Prosecutor prepared for you. “Hey.” You call to the Princess. “Do you eat? Do you need water?” No response. Hm. Well, interesting. You finish off the apple slice, then take a drink of water.

Prosecutor cocks her head, then asks the Princess, “Do you know where you come from?”

No response.

Prosecutor takes a second to think, then says, “I’m sort of scared of the dark too.” The Princess slowly tilts her head to Prosecutor, casting one of her eyes on her. “Sometimes I get nightmares of being alone in the dark. Of being chopped up. Being carried around with no will of my own.”

The Princess looks at Prosecutor for a few seconds then turns her attention back to the floor.

> This is a nightmare.

The Princess’s eyes widen a little.

> Lusankya. My name is Lusankya.

You smile. “There we go.” You squint a bit. You don’t remember a Super Star Destroyer by that name.

> “Can you tell us more, Lusankya?”
> “You should get some rest. We can talk more in the morning.”
> “I wonder if the Doctors are seeing this.”

“Can you tell us more, Lusankya?” you ask. She shakes her head, looking down at the floor. Surely she can. She has to. “You’re a Super Star Destroyer, correct?” She goes back to staring at the floor, unresponsive. “You know something we don’t. You have to.”

Prosecutor frowns deeply. “The poor girl.” She scoots next to you. “I think she can only really remember things in bursts, Admiral. Whatever or however the Vong made her, it certainly doesn’t bode well for her health.” Ain’t that the truth. Whatever the Vong did to this girl, it can’t have been good. Those savages… though if she did all that willingly. It’ll change your perception for sure if she did or didn’t do these things of her own accord.

The intercom starts again. “Admiral.” It’s the Doctor. “We just recorded that. Are you able to get any more out of her?”

“No,” you say. “She doesn’t seem to want to talk anymore for the night.”

“That’s a shame,” says the Doctor. “Alright, we’ll ask that you exit the chamber for now.”

“Doctor. I’d like to stay in the chamber for the night,” you request. “I said I’d stay with her. She doesn’t want to be left alone.” It’s a strange thing to promise but… you did say you’d do it so why not. A lot of things happening today you suppose.

The Doctor is quiet for a second, then says, “Very well. I’ll have some hazardtroopers posted as extra guards. We can’t guarantee your safety in there however.” With that, the intercom cuts out. You slip yourself into the sleeping bag. The floodlights are actually going to make it extremely hard to sleep. But you can’t just turn those off. They’re like a nightlight for her now.

Prosecutor bites her lip, looking to you. “All those lives for this girl.”

Yeah. Looking at her now, you wonder if it’s worth it.
