Welcome back to Vault Hunter Quest!
>A reminder of the rolling rules:
>Aim low for combat rolling!
>Aim high for social rolling!

You are the dedicated Baal the Salaryman. Former manager for one of several Dahl mining operations before Hyperion started their hostile takeover of the entire planet of Pandora. Without the company to provide your paycheck or a ride back home, you turned to the lucrative but dangerous career of Vault Hunting. So far, you've shot up a bunch of bandits and robots with your new friends/co-workers and hijacked a bandit car in an action movie-like stunt involving jumping from moving vehicle to moving vehicle. And now, you, Henrietta, Simeon, and Flora are staring down a massive tripedal robot standing above a city you were informed was called Shin Splinter.

"Uhh... I don't remember that robot being there when I left." A shrill synthetic voice pops up over your ECHO device.

Oh yeah... Claptrap is here, too.

>Tell Claptrap to shut up.

You squint at the towering robot, but all markings that would give you some clue to its manufacturer are too high up for you to read.

Over the ECHO, you start talking to your team.

"So... uh... Thoughts?"

"That is one really big robot." Henrietta states.
"Whose robot is that?" Flora inquires.
"Issss anyone going to sssay anything about the sssign?" Simeon interjects.

"Sign?" You echo the end of his question. Your eyes wander down from the mechanical titan to the billboard-like sign your miniature convoy is rapidly approaching. The sign reads

"Welcome to Shin Splinter
Home of th-" The rest of the sign is covered up with metal plating decorated in white spray paint
"HOME OF UR MOMMA!"

"Looks like we're going to be in the company of some real intellectuals." Flora grumbles. You can almost hear her rolling her eyes over the ECHO.

>Keep driving into town.

It's probably just an art piece
>>
>>1315211
Taking things safe, you park the Technical further away from the town; and from the giant robot towering over it. Flora states that once they turn off the engine in the Van/Bus, it might as well be on cinderblocks, because it's moving again. Keeping something between you and potential bullets is a plus, so you and Henrietta once again join Simeon, Flora and Claptrap in the Van/Bus. Speaking of the small robot, he seems to still be sitting in the back, though instead of silence he is attempting to beatbox out a dubstep beat. Its... not that great.

>Talk with Flora
>Talk with Henrietta
>Talk with Simeon (but not about cannibalism since that seems to just summon asshats)

You sit down on the bench across from Simeon. Now that no one was shoot at you you might actually learn something about this Rat. Well, something other than talking about cannibalism just seems to summon bandits. From behind the lenses of his mask, you see a faint, eerie Eridium-purple glow studying you. A subtle shudder works its way down your spine as Simeon starts to talk first.

"Isss there anything I can help you with, Baal. Or are you just going to ssstare at me until we arrive?" He crosses his arms and leans back. You're sure he's smirking at you under that mask.

>Ask him what life is like as a Rat.
>Ask him about the Eridium exposure.
>Ask him if he's single.
>Ask him about the smell.
>>
>>1315427

>>1315322

Does this mean that once we stop the van we can't start it again?
>>
>>1315460
Yeah the Van/Bus is toast once it is turned off or runs out of fuel. Good thing you have the 4-seater Technical parked a safe distance away.
>>
>>1315427
>Ask him about the Eridium exposure.
>>
>>1315457
>>1315479

You really aren't sure how to bring it up. You've seen what Eridium can do to people when exposed to it for lengthy periods of time. Its not pretty most of the time. Mercy killing levels of not pretty. Your hands fidget for a moment but you finally think of how to approach this: directly.

"How long were you exposed to Eridium for?" You ask bluntly. Simeon visibly tenses for a second before leaning in and resting his hands on his knees.

"I don't really have a full grasp on the time frame. I think about sssix monthsss. Hyperion grabbed my colony a while back and to usss to a lab. Good newsss was the women and children died in the first few days. Bad newsss was that still left the me alive to be dunked into vatsss of the sssstuff. It wasss torture." He is silent for a second but pipes back in with a tone you assume to be cheery. "At least I got thisss freaky telekinesis out of it. Now I can look chumpsss from across the room!"

You offer an uncomfortable chuckle and he does the same.

"So what was your colony like? You know... before." You continue on.

"Like most, I sssupose. Everyone working together to get more ssstuff and sssurvive. Grab the essentialssss. Food, women, gunssss." He shrugs and you nod in understanding. Another question enters your brain.

"Would you die if you removed that mask?" You ask, a little quieter than other other questions.

"Me? No. Everyone else? Maybe. Masksss in Rat culture haven't ssserved a function in generationssss. Itsss more of a ssstatusss sssymbol now. Kind of ironic how its keeping the environment sssafe from me now." He chuckles again.

"Heads up! We're entering Shin Splinter city limits!" Flora shouts back to you to.

Standing up, you unholster your pistol and walk to the door of the Van/Bus. You keep your finger off the trigger, but you keep the weapon in a ready position just in case. This is Pandora, after all. Just about anything could be on the other side of the door. You half-expect a giant bullymong armwrestling four different bruisers when you walk back into the open air.

Instead: You are greeted by the carcass of a butchered Skag and not much else. Worse still, this Skag seems to have been killed weeks ago. You are quickly joined by Henrietta, whose loud cheers for violence go unanswered, and Flora with weapons at the ready. Looking back up, you see Simeon had taken a position on the top of the Van/Bus.

"Well that's anticlimactic." Henrietta pouts. "I wanted to shoot something."

"Well don't jinx it, kid." Flora responds before taking a few steps forward. "It might look deserted, but that could easily be a ruse to make us easier to ambush." Her steely eyes shift left to right then up and down, wary of every possible entry point.

You look up at the underside of the still and silent robot. On its underside, you the the Hyperion logo as well as this machine's designation:

> TR1-UMV-1R8

That explains a little of the lack of population in this town. Ahead of you, Flora and Henrietta are looking through the windows of the houses. Behind you, Simeon is still keeping overwatch with his Maliwan Sniper. You think Claptrap is still cowering in the Van/Bus

Over your ECHO, you decide to inform your colleagues of the facts you have just learned as you walk to where Flora and Henrietta are looking through the windows.

"So, I think I found out who this giant robot belongs to. Surprise, its Hyperion. From the look of the markings, its called TR1-UMV-1R8." There is a small hint of cynicism in your voice. There aren't a lot of robots on Pandora that aren't made by Hyperion.

Off of the comms, you stand behind Henrietta. "So what did you find in there, ladies?" You peer over their shoulders. Inside, you see a line of seven men and women crumpled on the ground laying in a rust red stain of what you assume used to be blood a few hours ago. A large pile of bullet casings litter the ground and the wall behind them has been reduced to a collection of bullet holes. Scenes like that are becoming more and more common on Pandora as Hyperion continues its campaign of 'civilization.'

"I wonder if anyone in Hyperion is aware of the irony of slaughtering all of these peaceful settlements in the name of 'taming Pandora.'" Flora sneers before turning away and stamping off down an alleyway. Henrietta stays quiet and continues staring at the massacre.

You place a hand on Henrietta's shoulder. You feel her tense slightly from surprise and her head turns so she can glance at you. She looks a little shaken, but she isn't a wreck.

"You okay, kid?" You offer some gentle words. "Hyperion's handiwork is some rough stuff, I know."

"Yeah." She pauses leaving a small silence before speaking again. "I mean. I don't have problems with blood or gore or... or anything like that but... I don't think these people were even bandits. Innocent people just swept under the label of 'Violent Pandorans.'"

"Yeah its... its best if we don't dwell on it right now." You feel similarly. Sure, Dahl has done some nasty things in the name of profit- Things that started that stereotype of Violent Pandorans- but this is just malicious. You have to turn your head before you lose your temper and the thin veneer of responsibility and dignity that you have kept up til now. You switch on your ECHO and call Simeon. "Simeon, check in. How're you holding up over there?"

There's a bit of a pause before you hear from your Rat compatriot.

"All quiet here. Not even a Rakk in the sky. I don't like it, suit."

What will you do next?

You turn back to Henrietta and speak to her again. "Go back to the Van/Bus and make sure Simeon stays alive. I'll go get Flora before we continue on."

"You sure? We don't know if there's any Hyperion goons still lingering about this ghost town. What if you get ambushed?" She looks concerned. You smile gesture to your ECHO.

"I'll keep regular ECHO pings. If something goes down, it'll stop and you can come bring the pain to those chuckleheads." You present a fist and she bumps it with her own. She forces a smile.

"You better, suit. It'll suck if you due this early on." She tells you before turning and bounding back to the Van/Bus.

With her taken care of, you put your ECHO on a 10 second ping and start looking for Flora.

After a shameless game of "Eenie, Menie, Miney, Moe" you choose to check the eastern side of town first. There is a massive number of bodies and spent bullet cases littering the streets you walk. It is a bit disturbing to be honest. You do, however, find your bounty hunting Siren, looking down a burning mass of bodies. She is holding a new gun in her hands. It looks like a Maliwan Pistol. You tap the ECHO and announce that you found your Siren. Henrietta responds and requests you hurry and bring her back soon.

"Flora." You call out to her. She doesn't move, but turns her head slightly, acknowledging your presence. You continue talking as you approach her. "You can't just storm off alone like that. We don't know what that giant robot could do or if there are any more Hyperion troops still in town. I understand how horrific this all is-"

"I was born in a town like this, you know. Frontier styled Boom Town. It was an Atlas funded colony on Promethea. Probably looked a bit worse for wear than this shit hole." She still doesn't turn around.

"Corporate assholes decided our little boom town had gone bust and needed to be liquidated. Corporate assholes decided that the quickest way to do that was to just send Lancers to end our contracts with force and blame Dahl for the destruction. I was 15 when I heard these monsters start shooting. I can still hear it."

She turns around, tears are streaming down her cheeks. You can't tell if these are sad tears or angry tears. Maybe both. You stay silent and let her continue. "I think it was the first time I used my Siren Powers. Lancers cornered me and... and I crushed them with a block of that purple energy. I passed out after that from the shock, the blood, and from exhaustion. I woke up to a horror landscape like this once before. I swore to myself that I'd see each one of them hung by their own entrails for my home. I learned their names. I learned where each one went. I learned to kill so I could kill them. All 237 of them. Do you know how many are left? Five."

Holy shit, you think to yourself as you follow up her little speech with a question.

"And how you feel now?"

"I don't know. Angry? Scared? Excited? Anxious? All of them. None of them! I can't..." She stammers and starts pacing with her new gun still in hand. "I tracked the last five to Pandora. What if all five of them were here? What if Hyperion already killed them and incinerated them? What if I can't get my final vengeance on them? I can't sleep at night without thinking about my town burning and my family and friends being butchered like animals. Or... what if Hyperion picked them up when they bought Atlas? What if they had a hand in setting more peoples' lives to the torch? What if I could have stopped them if I had gotten here faster?"

You probably aren't qualified for this kind of thing, but you think Flora is having one hell of an anxiety attack brought on by PTSD. You have no idea what you could do, but you have a feeling that the man in the scrubs you can see from the corner of your eye could have some of the answers your Siren is seeking. For now, you just do the only thing you can think of.

You close the distance and wrap your arms around her in a warm embrace. She hesitates at first, shocked and confused by the human contact, but she melts in your arms somewhat as she accepts its. You feel her shoulders heave slightly with quiet sobs. After a long moment, she regains her composure, whispering a quiet apology for her outburst and behavior.

"It's fine, but right now there is someone in doctor clothes in that building to your right. He might have a clue what's going on." You whisper to her.

On the count of three, you and Flora break up the hug and rush the garage where the man in the scrubs is he looks to the door in the back of the room, but Flora's tattoos glow and she blocks the exit with a massive purple object. The man presses himself against the back wall as you approach with your pistol at the ready.

"Easy there, guys." The man in the scrubs raises his hands above his head. "I'm just a doctor. Name's Pierce."

Cue intro card: Dr. Pierce: Suicide is Painless

You lower your pistol. "You're a resident of this town, right? We're Vault Hunters. What exactly happened here?" You demand. Flora uses her free hand to call Simeon and Henrietta that you found a survivor.

"Well that's an easy one. War happened here. Hyperion came in with their giant robot and other smaller robots and walked all over our good hospitality. Really should have seen it coming, what with the jackbooted thugs and corporate pencil necks.

"This happened maybe three days ago. I mean, I don't think they'll show back up. They were pretty thorough in their murder. I was outside the city when it happened. I needed to pick up some supplies from an old colleague in Sanctuary so I missed the initial purging. Watched it happen on that ridge up there, though." He points out the window to your left. You see a large rock outcropping where one could definitely look out over the town.

"Technically that large robot is a mobile base for Hyperion operations. After I snuck back into town, I've been watching Loaders come and go all day for the past two days. There's an elevator that comes down from the center of the giant robot. They were deploying regular people troops through that. If there are any other survivors, they're most likely prisoners up there."

>>1316674
"First, because it looked like you were having a moment and it'd be rude to interrupt." Flora shuffles uncomfortably. Her face is flush from embarrassment that someone other than you saw her moment of weakness. "Second, bandits have been sabotaging that sign for years. It used to say Home of the Friendliest Face on Pandora. Sappy, yes, but true until current events." He shakes his head sadly.

Hmm... presumably the Triumvirate forces consist mostly of Loaders with a few platoons of meatbag soldiers and engineers. Or maybe more? I'm not really sure how many people would fit inside it.

If we do plan on attacking we should stock up, make sure everyone has a sheild, get ammo from a vending machine or through lootin, particularly AR since we have the acid gun to use on the Loaders. Other than that we could probably ecpect to pick up more gear as we fought our way through it.

As you ask your last question of the good doctor, Simeon and Henrietta arrive, even Claptrap comes with, though he seems to be making a series of whimpers and muttering about the state of things. Flora introduces Pierce as the only survivor from Shin Splinter. They stay quiet as the doctor thinks about how to answer your question.

"As far as I'm aware, the elevator doesn't come down unless they need to bring down additional troops for whatever reason. So in my professional opinion, I'd suggest making some kind of ruckus and destroy enough of those Loaders to really cheese those assholes." His eyes are filled with a vengeful glee at the thought of you taking on the Hyperion. But his gaze softens as his thoughts change. "Listen, I appreciate what I think you're thinking of doing, but, none of you knew us. We have nothing to repay you with. Hyperion all but wiped us off the face of Pandora. Are you sure you want to do this?"

"Its not about money, doctor." You start, but Henrietta finishes your thought.

"Hyperion needs to learn they can't just stamp out the people of Pandora."

"Plusss, I think we all have a bone to pick with Handssssome Jack." Simeon tags on.

"I don't normally do this, but I'll waive my fee this time." Flora adds. "We'll just take it out of Hyperion's loot."

"Well, I guess that settle that then." Pierce sighs in relief. "I'm going to hunker down and pretend like I don't exist until you deal with this problem. And, if you need any medical assistance, I'll be here!"

>How are you going to draw Hyperion's attention?
>>
>>1317509
>Go on a leisurly stroll around town (for Pandora) and trash all Hyperion equipment you come across.
And I guess we can manage to exclude Claptrap from the target list just this one time. But only because Hyperion won't give a fuck.
>>

Find some loaders and bust them up.

Or get Claptrap to shout at them long enough.

combo of this

Have Claptrap broadcast on an open channel over the ECHO. Also, make him believe that gis task is the absolutelt most important, most pivotal part of the plan. He'll be even more annoying if he actually has some modicum of self-esteem.

The four of you huddle together and debate on a plan of action. Flora suggests just going around and causing as much destruction to Hyperion property as much as possible. All of you agree that will probably get their attention, but you don't know if there is anything down here they care about now that Shin Splinter has been ghosted. Henrietta comes up with the idea of using Claptrap. All of you raise your heads out of the huddle and stare at the small robot. Currently, Claptrap seems to have returned to dancing and beatboxing.

You lose a game of rakk-bandit-skag and are shoved out of the huddle to convince to help in the mission.

"Heeey, Claptrap, buddy? Listen I need your help with something." You start off.

"You need my help? You're not just going to use me as bait for something, are you?" The robot asks suspiciously.

"Whaaat? Nooo." You lie.

Two reasons:one, you have the Hyperion channel codes, and two, you said yourself that you know how to shoot a gun.

He stares at you for a second and you relent.

"Okay yes, but we need to lure Hyperion down here so we can wreck their Loaders. Its a vital part of our plan to get revenge for the town." You quickly explain.

"You're going to stick it to Hyperion?! Well why didn't you say that first? SCREW those guys! Sure I'll help you, but I demand an equal cut of the loot! And to be made the leader of this operation! AND that you must all sing songs about my heroism to aaaaall the ladies!" Claptrap laughs at the thought of his demands being realized. You can only make a face and turn to the rest of your team.

You'll be treated same as the rest of the group, equal loot. Nothing else.

Or I shovel enough dirt in your servos you might as well be buried at a beach, except without all the hit girls in bikinis to fawn all over you.

Claptrap doesn't even carry a gun. Besides, he didn't get a title card at the start like everyone else.
>>
>>1317683
Outside of INAC and the Pre-Sequel, Claptrap never got a title card as far as I remember.

>You'll get all our robot related upgrades and loot, we get the guns shields and other stuff. Unless you really want to try and pick up a gun again and get bullied by loaders.

Looks like some things have come up and I need to call another break already. Sorry friends!
