Quest Intro

You are Mikage Chiba, second year high school student, fifteen years old. You used to be the third woman to carry the mantle of the magical guardian of love and justice known as Sailor Moon, after your mother and older sister. A year and a half ago you had a traumatic experience fighting the corpse of the father of your best friend, struggled victory leaving you thinking you had killed the man you had set out to save and prompting you to abandon your heritage. More than that, the relating emotional collapse lead you to abandoning yourself. Developing disguises and personas to inhabit and do the things you could not in secret, to live while you let yourself wither, you carried on.

Now you know the truth and have been taking measures to put yourself back together, reconnect with old friends, and make new ones. More than that you’ve been doing your best to support your younger sister, Koyomi, as she has become the fourth to carry the title as Sailor New Moon.

Quest Start (sorry last thread’s pause had to turn into a thread end)

You sigh deeply as you walk away from the Crowne Arcade, sunlight shifting into orange as the sun hands late in the sky. The gravity of what’s going on with your younger sister isn’t lost on you, but despite it she seems oddly level headed and aware of the problem...and you have ideas and theories.

Worry in fact, that it’s part of your own darkness inside of her. A burden lifted from you when she tried to heal you amid one of your panic attacks, the crushing despair of being overwhelmed mingling with the remnants of Chaos that transformed you. Is that why you haven’t had once since then?

Likely…

Are you proud or jealous she has shouldered it without a hint of cracking like you did?

That is a question you’ll revisit later.

For now, you’re on the clock. Meeting back up with your so far spread Knights before making your way toward the elementary school playground where you intend to meet with Hisako Ito in the guise of your former schismed personality, the Red Eyed Beast. By the time you reach your first destination, the sky has taken on hues of red.

Jupiter Cafe, the dinner rush is obviously dwindling. Though you catch sight of Kanari Kino disappearing around a corner ahead on her vespa, with the bigger delivery box mounted to the back of her bike.

Stepping into the cafe you notice a few unfamiliar faces bussing and taking orders, all younger. Looks like with Kino-san gone and both the children busy with extracurriculars, for lack of a better euphemism, Thiago has had to resort to a bevy of teen part timers.

As you think on the Brazilian Sansei, he strides out of the kitchen and immediately notices you.

“Oh, Mikage,” he greets casually as is his usual way, “Koito said he was running out to meet you, he’s just cleaning himself up,”

“Thanks, Thiago-tio, how was the dinner rush?” you question and remember to use the Portuguese term for Uncle as an honorific like the older man had requested of you and likely the other girls a short time ago.

He catches it and is nearly in tears.

“You remembered without being reminded?” he beams pleasantly before his face takes on a more serious and inquisitive expression as he crouches slightly to be even with you, despite your unusual height for your age he still towers over people much like your father, “So, why is my little filho stepping out for the evening with the big sister of the girl I thought he was dating?”

>Be flustered, this caught you off guard
>You won’t be teased that easily, jokingly and dryly say something tawdry
>Did Koito not tell you about the whole Knight thing?
>You can muster no earthly response to that, ignore it

Flustered, but not off guard. Not catching us flat-footed socially!
Flusterly dismiss the implication and say he's been helping our friends with something. Though if he hasn't discussed it, it isn't our place to go into detail.

“What? No!” you declare soundly if a bit flusteredly with certainly no hint of embarrassment, you won’t be caught off guard, “I don’t know what you’re implying, Koito-kun has just been helping me and my friends with something,”

Thiago Kino’s scrutinizing gaze weighs on you a moment longer as he stands back up to his full height. Once he does, his face splits into a broad grin and he laughs.

“Of course, of course,” he declares, “Don’t worry about it, I’m only teasing,”

You laugh with him a bit as Koito walks into the restaurant. A confused expression crosses his face as he shrugs a jacket on and steps behind the counter to grab a delivery container.

“Hey,” he offers with a certain deadpan, “Are you two alright,”

“Yes, filho, we’re good,” Thiago says as he claps his son on the shoulder, “Just sharing a joke,”

The usually serious and deadpan boy rolls his eyes.

“Sure,” he says before looking over to you, “Where are the others,”

“We’re gonna meet up with Kairi and then head over to the school,” you explain, “Midori and Saori will meet us there,”

Bidding the presently lone proprietor of the Jupiter Cafe goodnight the two of you make your way over toward the newly acquired apartment of Gai Ginja where you intend to meet up with Kairi Osaka.

“So, snacks?” you regard his delivery box as the two of you leave the cafe.

“I said I’d make some,” he explains with a casual seriousness, “Tofu gyoza and some edamame,”

You nod firmly to the younger boy. It’s not a long walk to Ginja-san’s new place, but the walk is long enough to talk to the Knight you really know the least. Who happens to also be dating your sister…

>Ask how he feels about what happened last night

Writing.

There I go getting distracted. But this works, might also have poked him about relationships, but missed my shot.
>>
Well, you’ve seen him talk about things in the relaxed context of the secret base around the others. Can you trust this? Is the boy okay. You know of the Kino twins, Kanari is all passion while Koito is all reserved snark. There must be something else beneath the surface.

Time to wear the title of Senpai, it’s not an uncomfortable title but you’ll use it to help your juniors. You’ll use it to help this knight.

“Are you feeling okay,” you ask the younger boy, “About everything that happened last night?”

He pauses mid step. His grip on the delivery box tightens as he stares for a moment at the Zoisite gemstone.

“I’m apprehensive,” he reasons, “but we talked...Koyomi and,”

His feet rest flat and side by side.

“I didn’t make much of a difference in the fight,” he sighs, “and I didn’t even know what happened to Koyomi until after,”

“Well, you are still new to all of this,” you offer, “And all of us were always in over our heads out there,”

“You weren’t,” he observes, “And you saved her,”

You nod.

“I was,” your correct him, “and I didn’t know I could do it until it happened,”

He frowns and returns in step beside you.

“Then we’re all still just figuring this out,” he doesn’t huff, but maintains a steady and dry voice with something that is more a declaration than a question.

“That’s about right,” you sigh, “Though we aren’t doing it blindly, and unlike this time our next fight isn’t going to be by surprise,”

The two of you walk side by side calmly.

“And next time, nobody dies,” you nod firmly.
>>
>>1331195

“Can you be so sure?” there isn’t doubt in his voice, it’s an honest want for assessment.

“Amazonite is a close combat powerhouse. Everyone can pepper her at range with magic while I try to lock her down,” you explain, “That is if she engages...you heard what Saori said about her,”

“We might not even have to fight her yet unless we corner her,” he reasons, “Unless she’s angry about what happened to Kalunite,”

The two of you arrive outside of the appointed apartment building to see a frazzled Kairi looking a bit worse for wear. Her hair is decidedly a mess, for all its usual frizz, she leans against the side of the building, and she glances up to meet your eyes there is an exasperation that pierces your soul.

“Kairi-senpai?” Koito questions with some worry, stepping forward, “Are you alright?”

“I’ll be fine,” she shakes her head.

“What happened?” you question with some worry.

“The inside of that apartment was like a magic eye poster,” she slumps a bit, “Or, I dunno know. Terra said they folded space to make more room...but Estra never finished some things and there were...loops and no gravity some places,”

“Sounds...weird,” Koito observes and looks up at the apartment building.

“Estra says hi, but the way,” she pats her hair down and steadies herself, “He’ll be back to school after the weekend, he didn’t mean to worry us,”

Now three, you make your way to the elementary school. When you get a few blocks from there, you meet up with Midori and Saori. Bumming a few cigarettes from your Jadeite Knight, you advise all of them to hang back while you make use of the disguise pen to don the appearance of the Red Eyed Beast and head into the playground, where it is yet empty.

Though what to do.

Precognitive advice may be a useful thing to have, but I think for recruitment purposes, we shouldn’t go that route.

I.. what? Why would we not open with a cigarette? I mean, that is probably how we would have opened anyway.. unless is was some sort of precog reverse psychology so that we wouldn't but that would be odd.

Some people just want to watch the world burn.

You walk with a casual gait over toward the playground swings. Sitting down you play with the cigarettes and lighter in your skirt pocket, and decide to save them for later.

Rin had suggested, by din of premonition, that you open this meeting with a cigarette. It’s a relaxant, and the offer would certainly put Ito-san at ease. It might even relax you a bit for all the stress you’re under.

Frankly you don’t want to relax. And honestly you don’t want Ito-san relaxed for this either. Being relaxed and being friends can come later, for this you want her fire.

And with that you kick your legs and slowly begin pumping amid the shadows cast by the street lights. The chained rods creak as you build momentum, the black hair of this guise falling forward and streaming back in turn. Your allies are too far away for you to coordinate anything with, and you feel Kunzite spectre leave you and join in the darkness.

Though amid that dark the first thing you see between beams of light are her near to shock white hair. Once she enters the schoolyard, she sees you quickly, and you stop pumping on the sing. Letting your momentum die, you slowly come to a stop. With decided intent and a look of scrutiny on her face she approaches with steady and forward steps. Not bothering to sidestep the few obstacles in her path, such as the teeter totter or a few pylons marking the edge of the area for playground equipment, she steps or hops over them.

She’s standing in front of you by the time your motion settles. Her scrutiny breaks and she grins, a broad and toothy smile. There was a tension that’s been building in her from the moment she saw you. Now it’s on the edge of snapping.

You did lure her out here under the pretense of another fight.

And to be honest, you’re wound a little wound up too.

“So, how are we doing this?” she questions, still standing and with her hands dug deep into the pockets of her hooded sweater, with that familiar haunting and predatory hunger at the edge of her voice.

That’s why Rin wanted you to open with the cigarette.

Weighing your options, you’ve broken her visions of the future before. Though you are smiling yourself.

>We throw down until one of us doesn’t want to anymore

Guess I've gotta read this quest closer, but a post-fight cigarette might be almost as good as long as no one's feelings get hurt. Or lose consciousness.

“I was thinking we throw down until one of us doesn’t want to anymore,” you muse as your arms reach up high on the chains before you pull and step up from the flexible seat of the swing.

She nods, her smile tightening, not yet evoking the ferocity near to madness you saw when the two of you fought earlier but there is a readiness all the same. Pulling her hands from her pockets, she lifts the back of her wild hair and loosens a scrunchy from her wrist. In the dark, you again notice her scars, including the mark you left. Now though you see a few more on her neck, they look like long healed burns.

“So, just for fun,” she chuckles, “You didn’t say give up, so tonight it’s not about winning or losing?”

“It’s just about the fight,” you confirm, because you need some kind of release too.

“You going to disappear on me after?” she questions as she takes a loose but low stance and offers a decided growl, “I mean, I don’t mind the chick fight booty call tonight, but sometimes a woman has just got to know what the long term is or if it’s even a thing,”

A growl that is teasingly playful.

“We’ll talk about that after,”

“Ah, so you’re sticking around after?” she nods, good to know.

The two of you stand there a moment, and at some unspoken signal in the dark the two of you spring into action.

>>1331807
We can help with keeping her conscious after, given her response to fighting so far, I don't think we need to worry about hard feelings. A good hard fight will be fun for both. Post fight cig sounds good. Hope that Melee-Advocate Guy turns up, this'll be his jam.
>>
>>1331807
>>1331746
Fight hard and open talks afterward with a cig sounds good in hindsight. We've been about kicking fate in the shin this while quest anyway.
While I trust Rin, we probably shouldn't make a habit of relying on portents when we've been barreling over predictions so far.

>>1331865
Let's get a bit more serious this time around, we should get Shield and Jump running for this bout.
Save controlled rage for the moment in case we want to cast something else first. Might suggest giving the Winter Wolf a proper introduction to the spooky bitch that is the Red-Eyed Beast.
Don't expect her to be scared, just don't want to short change her on the full experience now that we don't have a (public) audience.

>>1331876
Thanks for the quest!

I hope MAG can show as well, I'll be at work so I hope to see some fun fightworks when I can get back.
I'm sure ya'll will work it out either way.

A growl that is teasingly playful as her nostrils flare, and she casts a quick glance along the periphery of your obstacle heavy field of combat.

“We’ll talk about that after,” you offer wryly, your own excitement steadily contained but visible.

“Ah, so you’re sticking around after?” she nods, “good to know,”

The two of you stand there a moment, and at some unspoken signal in the dark the two of you spring into action.

Though decidedly different action. The two of you react to one another, though you are decidedly quicker than her and can act first.

There is too much uneven footing between the two of you for your approach, even across this short a distance, to be smooth. Instead you opt to reach into yourself and tug at your magical tendencies toward the darkness, folding yourself through the darkness and reemerging in an instant at Ito’s side.

Her surprise is visible as you expend the energies of your starseed and move faster than you could have acted otherwise. The strike lands fast and hard, in her side above and to the back of the hip. Between precision and momentum you know it must have caused some disruptive pain. She missed out on the chance to fight the dragon the other night, so you’ll grant her carte blanche to go all out against you.

>2 degrees of success bid toward 4 more Vitality
>Skirmish and Sneak Attack deal 20 Vitality
>Unarmed Strike deals 13 Vitality
>In total you deal 27 Vitality to Hisako Ito

“You didn’t even move,” her eyes widen and her smile sharpens as her footing shifts, “So no holding back then,”

The predatory aura that roils off her vanishes as she begins to embody pure aggressing that leaves her otherwise wide open, she pivots on that footing and slams a open hand into your shoulder near your neck and squeezes.

>2 degrees of success bid toward 2 Wounds
>Punishing Stance and Rapid Wolf Strike deal an extra 9 Vitality
>Unarmed strike deals 4 Vitality
>Hisako Ito deals 13 Vitality and 2 wounds to you

She makes no shifting of weight to move away, as as her you feel her grip relax from where it dug into your shoulder and her fist ball anew she is unguarded before you, is she baiting you into attacking again?

Kunzite continues to watch, but says nothing and stays hidden within the natural shadows.

Hisakot Ito, the Winter Wolf, seems more than ready to plant her feet and keep you engaged in this closely set throw down.

It is your turn

Well, even if she’s going to dig in, you’ll continue to be slippery and throw her off balance. Again flashing through the shadows you stand behind Hisako Ito and deliver a kick into her shoulder. Though she isn’t completely blindsided like before, she’s so open from her last attack that she may as well be. Which helps considering how sloppy the kick’s drop is as she’s spun a bit by it.

>Unarmed Strike deals 6 Vitality
>Skirmish deals 11 Vitality
>You have dealt 17 Vitality to Hisako Ito.

She seems, to be unsure about something with that impact.

Though you aren’t finished with this, before she has the chance to more readily act. You’re playing dirty, in part because you like feeling powerful but also to see how she handles in the outright presence of the supernatural. Especially something you know she has turned a fearful eye to before.

Kunzite glides out of the darkness, still a black silhouette. Hisako, mid stumble, freezes before she wheels around with teeth grit.

“So it was you!” she accuses without looking at you as she surges, her visible musculature surging and rippling before she crouches and backflips over you and onto the back of the manually propelled merry go round, “You were spying on Hanako the whole time,”

>Iron Heart Surge and Sudden Leap initiated

“Like you, out of concern for both your and her safety,” Kunzite says as he takes on definition and hue to her and your vision.

“The hell is going on!” Hisako demands of both Kunzite and you, tense but holding herself from action and using the merry go round as cover.

You reign in your own stance, standing straight and rolling your hurt shoulder, noticing a little bit of blood from Hisako’s earlier the nailed grip. She wasn’t messing around, was she, and this makes you smile a bit. With your other hand you dig out a few of the cigarettes from your pocket, offering one of them to her with your now bloodied hand.

“It’s a very long story,” you offer her calmly, perhaps with a tiredness to your own voice.

This brief conflagration of violence was, frankly, welcome. And when you speak, with the gravel of the Beast’s voice but free of the other mannerisms, Ito-san regards you with confusion.

“Thought you weren’t into it after that kick,” she sighs and sets a foot on the playground equipment and nudges it enough to ride it around toward you.

Taking your offered cigarette, she takes a moment to look you over. To size you up, maybe?

“So, I’ve got time,” she says as you light her up, “And you sound like shit,”

Taking your own, lighting it as well, you muse over the idea that you as Mikage don’t really smoke. It’s something you did as the Beast or on occasion as Miki. Those splinters are both part of you now, no longer in schism, and it doesn’t quite sit the same way as it had before.

Still, it relaxes you as soon as the scent of it hits you in remembered response before it even has time to get into your system.

“Yeah, dealing with magic does that,” you sigh and take a deep breath.

“So, why’d you really call me out here and who is this guy,” she gestures over to Kunzite as he melds to the ground and slides as shadows back to your side.

“To tell you a story, and make you an offer,” you say as she circles you and takes a seat on the swing next to the one you had been sitting on, as the creaking of the merry go round continues lazily in the dark, “And his name is Kunzite,”

“Alright,” she says, with a certain dubiousness to her voice, “What’s the story then?”

“It’s about the people who are making monsters now,” you begin and slowly lose the gravelly tone you normally use for the beast, “It’s about a world few people remember, about heroes, about villains, and about a girl who used to be broken reaching out for a friend,”

Recounting the history of Elysion and the Silver Millennium, she listens. Explaining how this lead into the exploits of the first Sailor Moon, without naming names in this life, you both burn down tobacco to ash and shoe ground butts. How your conflict with the Sailor Senshi is a smoke screen, because you are working with them against these corrupt remnants of Elysion’s memory.

You can’t tell if she believes you or not, but still she listens while swaying gently on the swing.

“I asked you out here tonight because I need your help,” you explain, “I need your help because you’ve been touched by all of this, and because you’re special,”

“Damn right I am,” she puffs her chest out in confidence and pride.

“Well, in another way,” you smile plainly, something the face you wear isn’t really accustomed to, “You can see Kunzite when only I should be able to, and hear him as well,”

“That’s something important?” she questions, attention squarely on you.

“It means you are open to the power I possess,” Kunzite explains reforming, “And if you accept my sheltered power from this one you will gain the means to stand against these darkening tides,”

She considers things for a moment. Weighs things in her mind. There isn’t anything standoffish about her body language, and you know from experience that Hisako Ito wears her heart on her sleeve; that she hasn’t told you to fuck off means that most of this fight may really be won.

“And who are you? And why are you the one sheltering this guy when his buddies...students? When his buddies students run with Eclipse and the Senshi?” she muses aloud, “Knights with magic stones, you know that’s some Tokusentai shit right there,”

ALL OF THE OPTIONS. FLAIR FOR THE DRAMATIC ENGAGE!

I'll back this. Keeping secrets from her is likely to end poorly.

Sounds good.

Grabbing dinner and writing.

Going to get whiplash laying out that many faces at once.

You sigh and walk over toward the wing and sit back down beside hisako. The two of you sit there a moment, her question hanging in the air. A loaded question where you’re concerned, to be sure.

Looking up into the light polluted night, you see the incomplete moon.

“I’m a daughter of Endymion and Serenity,” you say with a rising hint of pride, as a brief word of regret also seeps in, “I was the third Sailor Moon,”

At this point you aren’t paying close attention to her reaction on this. Though all the same you take a steadying breath and clad yourself in the regalia of Eclipse while relaxing and releasing the power of your disguise pen. Dark robes furl across your form as your skin takes a slightly more colorful tone.

“I’m Eclipse,” you explain beneath masking and keffiyeh.

This seems to elicit some noticeable reaction from her as your hand rises to your face and tugs the cloth down and back.

“Got a lot of layers going on there-,” she whistles but stops short as you reveal your face in full.

“And I would hope someone you could call friend,” you offer her a smile.

“-Miks?” her eyes again look you up and down, as she uses her own corruption of your nickname, before nodding sharply, “So you’re in all of this shit pretty deep then?”

“Yeah,” you answer and honestly agree, “Which is why I want your help, as one of my Knights to help protect this world,”

She pumps one the swing a bit to get a little bit of momentum, looking ahead into the dark.

“Gonna be running on a lot of roofs?”

“Probably,”

She pumps harder, swings harder.

“Fight some guys who do magic throw monsters everywhere?” she grins broadly.

“For certain,” it’s an infectious smile.

She doesn’t say anything else for a second over the creaking and wrenching of the swing, before digging her feet into the dirt and coming to a hard stop.

“Then I’m in,” she sharply turns to face you and reaches out her hand, “So, when do I get to meet the rest of the sequin squad?”

Thanks for running, as always!

Thanks for running Arty! See ya next time!~

Next time won't be for a few weeks. I next weekend I'm helping a buddy playtest a neat homebrew narrative game, by playing it for an extended campaign and I'm not really helping so much as stress testing and hanging out with friends and having fun, then helping go over some stuff for an OSR focused Con setting transition to 5E for another friend while sitting observer on one of their home games.

The weekend after I'm in Pesach mode, and subsisting on Oberto plain or peppered jerky and fruit.

The weekend after that I'm traveling across three or four states with a bunch of cool nerds to participate in a national event for the LARP network with Zombies I play in for what is technically going to be my first travel game so I'm excited...though my character is arriving with no idea how he got there while in a burlap sack, without a weapon as it expired between games, and horribly addicted to bad drugs which he blames on a 'Merican Hero of Legend in the wastes.

Then the weekend after that I'm hitting Zenkai Con to attend the costume not required parlor anime crossover LARP as Merlin from Sword in the Stone/Kingdom Hearts for the purpose of friendship and shenanigans.

Dystopia Rising player eh?
>>
>>1333911
Yeah, I've enjoyed playing and its been a pretty cathartic and stress relieving thing during the past two years of my life. Lord knows I blog moded to you guys in excess in the lead up to and during all of that time that if 4chan as a whole disliked me enough I would have found myself at home or work receiving targeted pranks.
>>
>>1333832
Nice.

>>1333846
Thanks for running!

>>1333902
Sounds busy, which at least means I don't have to worry about missing things while I'm running around a bit.
I'll be hitting a certain con again this weekend. Two weekends after that, I get to help cast at a LARP I dealt with for years, though less active while injured, reprising some key roles and terrorizing the player camp. I shall be a fully armed and operational GM station! I have a whole box of monster faces alone!

I might have to check out Zenkai, looks like it's a mite closer to home and the last one you brought to my attention has been fun, if.. quirky in getting started for the day.
>>
>>1333846
Darn, missed the resume. Just the same, thanks for running!
>>
>>1333876
Btw MAG, thanks for being around, had some fun suggestions for the melee bout.

>>1334241
Aye, missing is sad, but tis a good read. Recently escaped to freedom myself.
>>
>>1334227
Zenkai is pretty chill, plus they had an amazing setup on one of their side rooms on saturday where they were doing the starship bridge simulator game. I went in with the intention of pulling a Brannigan...and instead kept the ship alive through several encounters as captain with decisive and sane tactical orders.
>>
>>1334303
Haha thanks. I do what I can. Shit ain't exactly stable these days.
>>
>>1334560
Hopefully things settle and stabilize for you.

Also, you guys want to skip snacks in the playground or play through/observe Hisako formally meeting the team?
>>
>>1336094
Meet and greet seems good. Get her first impressions on the team.
>>
>>1336118
Or at least observing that.
>>
>>1336118
Alright then. Next thread starts with a newly minted Knighting and then Gyoza and Edamame.
>>
>>1337750
Maybe an interlude around that? Don't imagine we'd have much input there.
>>
>>1341282
I mean, I'll write the scene as part of the OP, though yeah, shift perspective a bit with an interlude could help things.
>>
>>1342121
Whatever you think is best dude. You've done great so far, I'm sure it'll be just fine.
>>
So, on top of delays from my busy schedule, the next thread is further delayed by something weird with the chrome on my computer saying there is some kind of privacy issue when I try to post on 4chan. Doesn't make a damn lick of sense, so hopefully I can sort it out before I'm free enough in a few weeks to run again.
