Welcome back, everyone, to the eighty-second installment of Mecha Space Pirate Quest. As always, I'm Wong, your host, and today you are once again Heinrich "Caesar" Merrow, an Iron Kestrel ace and former member of SOUL.

Last time, you broke out of confinement, stole a jetbike, beat two genuinely good-hearted people who were just looking out for your best interests unconscious, listened to dad stories, accepted help from someone whose identity you don't know, and did a cool flip. You've got a girlfriend to save!

It's the standard MO of teens with hormones a flutter. Pretty sure Amos and Moe are the most stable we have seen.
>>
>>1361212
I can say for certain I've never met a teenager that beat multiple people who wanted to help them into unconsciousness.

Of course, none of them had access to stun batons, but still.

You head back into town, wind whipping through your hair and a fair amount of regret in your heart. Regardless of your determination to rescue Naomi, tapping Simon with a stun baton is something you never, ever wanted to do. He's still your friend, damn it all.

There are no further attempts to dart you, and you effortlessly find the maid cafe. After all, you've been training with Oda Yoritomo and Clemmy, it's not as if you haven't visited several times. The package, too, is right where it's supposed to be. You carefully open it up without tearing the wrapping apart and check inside. The uniform is a lot more baroque than you're used to, primarily black with gold lining and a rather ostentatious black half-cape and a note...on paper, but mechanically printed.

'Wear this. Make sure to wear your weapon openly on your belt, Avalonians do that. The cuff button on the right sleeve has an ID chip, scan it on the flat terminal to your right when entering the Avalonian ship to pass through. Apparently they have a lot of new crew members after 16-Psyche, you should be able to get by without being noticed for a while. Keep your sunglasses on, they obscure your features and you can say they were a souvenir. Good luck!' The note says.

This is tricky. We reveal our hand too soon and we get caught. too late and they notice. At the least we can say we looked at a Maid Cafe and found that they wee a different type of cafe than you thought.

You get dressed quickly, stow your other clothes, hang your shortsword/spear from the leather holster on your belt, and kick up some dust. The bay for the Avalonians is some distance away, after all. Once again, you're driving along the scenic lakeside road, thinking about stopping for some food.

At least, that's what you're thinking about until you hear a sound that you haven't heard since before you entered the Academy...and that time, your dad was driving and got let off with a warning after giving the copper an autograph. It's the pompous WHOOP WHOOP WHOOP of a siren as a vibrantly pink jetbike with flashing scarlet lights and glittering streamers attached to the handlebar turns onto the street behind you, cruising into pursuit position. It has an underslung gatling gun that you don't want to get on the wrong side of.

The officer squints at your uniform, and gestures for you to pull over onto the shoulder of the road. Which you do. She's too close for you to outrun her bike, and in a perfect position to shred your engine and you along with it, after all. Otherwise you might consider that a valid choice.

You look innocently at her as she gets off her bike and stomps over to you, a harassed-looking young woman in pink-and-red body armor and matching helmet, “Do you know why I pulled you over?” She asks, managing to look simultaneously bored and annoyed at the same time.

You give her your best, most innocent smile, “W-why no, officer, I don't. Was I going too fast?” That doesn't sound Avalonian, so you throw a “Pray tell?” In there.

Her brow furrows, “Yes, but that's hardly the point. We've had reports of a stolen blue Gerlux XP-88 with custom leather seats, chromed exhaust ports, and a...whistle tip. Which seems to be missing from yours, probably why you weren't stopped sooner.” She checks the serial number, and nods, “Yes, this is it. Want to explain why you're riding some Jovian rich boy's overclocked toy on my fucking colony?”

>[Kick over her bike, jab her with the stun baton, and jet away whooping]

Probably one most befitting a naive avalonian recruit; Walking around like a commoner, hoping to make it to the shuttles on time when someone my age offered me a rental of his vehicle in exchange for some credits. 'Some neon colored people took my new knight out for a spin and has proceeded to draw women on it's chest!'

Did we come up with what our plan was for the auction? Are we going to try and hold onto Lori?
>>
Sorry about the delays, technical difficulties.
>>
>>1361612
Think so. Offer the information we got from her and privateering/mercenary works as a alternative in that place. Likewise we can sell 'keeping her out of the war' for a lower price.
>>
>>1361612
>Are we going to try and hold onto Lori?
Definitely.
IIRC, plans were to be:
>Sell to Avalon
Cut out their warchest, and then offer to make her ambassador to Eisentor with the caveat she cannot participate in any Avalon operation unless in self-defense.

>Sell to Mars
We let Mars turn her into a prisoner of war with all the rights that entail. Offer to become her jailer and allow full Martian access to her for info. Offer ambassadorship to Mars/Avalon/UJCIDF

>Sell to UJCIDF
Admittedly the last resort. We do a covert operation using Avalon/third party assets to attack the Iuella Massa and rescue Lori.
>>
>>1361641
We can't sell her to Avalon no matter what, selling to Avalon is all Fairchild needs to justify attacking us with full force.
>>
>>1361647
Not really. If we get word to the planetary senate by way of moe's beau, they should understand that we're bleeding them economically while removing one of their major assets from play if it goes according to plan. They'll understand it.

“Alas, I must apologize. Indeed, I too have been misled.” You press one hand to your heart and bow floridly to her.

“Eh?” She blinks behind the visor of her helmet, “What are you talking about?”

“W-well...” You put a tiny bit of ingratiating whine into your voice, “His lordship told me to befriend our hosts, the bold knights of yon Iron Kestrels, and so when a yeoman of His Eternal Majesty King Roarke Starwind I, Kaisermeister, Grand Lord of the Belt, Sovereign of the Free Stars, saw me walking and offered me this fine and noble steed for but a mere paltry sum, why, I accepted at once in the name of interstellar commerce!” You puff out your chest, putting a hand on your breastbone and posing gratuitously, “Surely you must be mistaken, his mien was indubitably most solemn and knightly, surely he was no highwayman!” You hope it sounds Avalonian enough.

She scowls suspiciously at you, then checks her PC, “...Yeah, the victim reported the perpetrator was one of the Kestrels. He also said he got jumped and beaten up, so you look a little small to be him. Alright, kiddo, that's almost everything.”

“Almost?” You question.

She nods, “Yes, there's still the matter of a small fee for taking time out of my day to deal with you. Pay up or you can sit in the drunk tank until one of your bosses comes to deal with you.” Her smile is radiantly smug.

Honestly, we should be aiming to get Fairchild off the table ASAP and work with the other grounds to form a somewhat neutral deal. The Biggs files should help with that.

>>1361654
Better hope those people in the upper class don't have reason to want to get rid of a band of pirates that are taking over one of the key trade routes in solar system and have frequently embarrassed their navy. And then we hope that we get to them before Fairy makes her statement to the public and turn them against us tying the upper class's hands.

They're not going to do that in the middle of a war.

I'm not sure how they're gonna spin that since we're going to be helping them drive the avalonians out of the solar system and we're effectively siding with them in this war.

But if they really want to start a fight, thats on them. I hope they're ready for asteroid vietnam and constant raiding then.
>>
I can't wait for Auditorium to become the most heavily armored and armed stage in the galaxy.
>>
>>1361698
We haven't formally declared support yet or worked together with any of Sol in any of the battles so we can easily still be sold up the river. And even if we do side with them they still have the narrative that we sold a Paladin back to Avalon and that'll hurt our reputation inside our system.
>>
>>1361698
Reminder: Vietnam lost the Tet Offensive, but won the war when the American Public lost their appetite for war.
>>
>>1361706
Then change the narrative. Put out propaganda that the Belt is not part of their squabbles. Be Space Switzerland.
>>
>>1361716
With what media? Our only connection to any form of media is Gretchen who works for a Jovian news station, they aren't going to go against the Jovian narrative.
>>
>>1361716
Not as simple as you think. Fairchild has the propaganda scene down Natch. If you haven't noticed, she has been getting away with war crimes with the help of her connections and rank. We play this badly and they will paint us as German during WW2.
>>
You look over her shoulder. It's not the fact that another jetbike is approaching that surprises you, this one a brilliant metallic maroon. It's the fact that it's slowing down, and the woman in the black bodysuit riding it is showing obvious interest as she gets closer.

The officer notices your gaze, and turns around, looking annoyed, “Hey, you want a show? Then fuck off and go watch the tournament like everyone else. There's nothing to see here.”

“Indeed?” The black-clad figure replies, her voice muffled from behind her helmet.

“That's right. As a matter of fact...no, you're not going anywhere either. You'll pay what he's paying, or you're both under arrest. That's a nice bike you have there. I imagine it's worth quite a pretty penny. Tell you what. Hop off, and I'll let you walk away.” The cop hooks her thumbs through her belt, prominently displaying her plasma pistol and stun baton.

The woman on the jetbike makes a mistake, then. She snorts with laughter, a short, derisive “Heh.”

The cop reaches for a weapon, and the woman on the jetbike pulls her own gun so fast you don't even catch a hint of motion, and fires.

The thin bolt of plasma slices the cop's weaponbelt off, and leaves a long tear in the cop's uniform. The woman yelps with fear and falls onto her backside as the skin exposed reddens from the heat of the near miss. It's probably going to blister later.

You've never even seen Naomi make a draw like that. Maybe she could in ten years, or twenty, but contrary to what you see in the simflicks shooting reflexively is hard, and she'd barely glanced down the sights.

The jetbike woman sighs with disgust, “Not even a threat? No protests? Damnable civilian. How dare you attempt to ransom one of His Excellency's servants. At least have enough spine to threaten me with the wrath of your mistress and give me the chance for some drama.” She removes her helmet, shaking her head, two long, slender braids caught in the wind. Her chest is a little small, but her legs are long and smooth-looking, “You'll have to explain to your lady what you were doing here, and if you are dishonest I suspect a grave punishment shall befall you. You're dismissed, shoo. Go on peasant girl, get on your cheap little bike and go. Hurry up now.” She chides, cheerfully bullying the poor officer who speeds away shaking with humiliation.

You just stare at the Avalonian. At least, from your accent, you assume she's Avalonian. It's nowhere as thick as the Countess', but you can still hear it a little. She looks much too young to be shooting like an old pro. You're mostly not sure whether you should be cheering for an Avalonian or not in this situation.

“Are you unhurt, boy? You look sun-flushed.” She tsks, pressing the back of her hand to your forehead, “No fever, I'll warrant. Too much time on the beach? As expected.” She sighs, “What, pray tell, is your name, boy?”

“Wesker, ma'am.” You try to think of a first name, but she cuts you off.

“Wesker? Ah, you're one of the new boys, aren't you? Well, Solar auxiliary or not, you're an Avalonian in my book.” She claps you on the shoulder, “Do you know who I am?” She winks.

“Ahhh...um...” You rack your brains.

“Countess Tabitha Roosevelt. I'll forgive you for forgetting. Honestly, the nerve of that wench, giving you trouble when we were invited here to negotiate! I'm glad I decided to try and find that dashed Pirate King and sort out the return of my vassals ahead of time, even if I couldn't find that carrot-topped philanderer.” She tsks.

“T-thank you, my lady.” You mumble.

“Come on back with me. Oh, and do chin up, you look like a lost duckling.” She chides you, remounting her bike.

“I'm just a little bit shocked that one as exalted as you would aid me.” You mumble.

She pauses, and gives you a funny look, then smiles ruefully, “I suppose that makes sense. I must have put you on the spot, being so familiar, but...not all of us have the luck to be born noble, or the gall to squander it as my cousin does, a decent lady should consider at all times the welfare of her people and be willing to throw all of herself into their defense. By the Lady, we're all human.”

You nod, and get back on your bike. She revs hers up, then gives you a rather challenging grin, “How about a bit of sport, to brighten your mood? Let's see who makes it back to the ship first.”

You don't lose at racing games either.

You don't see the gleam of competition in your shades, but she does, and it's Countess Roosevelt's first and only inkling of what she's just unleashed as you flashstart the burners and make your bike roar like a tiger.

You wonder, vaguely, whether a proper Avalonian would be this aggressive with a Paladin, but you don't care. You're busy winning.

She speeds after you, but you never give her a second to get ahead. Each attempt, you cut her off, nearly running her off the road and onto the beach more than once. She nearly drives you into an obstacle, but you take a detour onto a service road that ramps upward and use it to leap ahead of her, making her eat afterburner as you soar so far ahead you're almost out of her line of sight. Your bikes dance, but she never manages to close the distance, and when you reach the finish line you're comfortably far ahead.

She doesn't seem to take it badly, grinning and cheering you as she brings her bike to a halt, “Superb, Wesker! Bravo! Ah, what did you say your given name was?”

“Gaius, my lady.” You bow again.

She watches you with an odd intensity, smiling. “Gaius Wesker. Of course.” You gesture for her to precede you, as if out of respect, and with an aristocratic nod she accepts. She waves her right hand at the terminal in the gate of the shuttlebay the Avalonians are using, and it flashes green with a cheerful chiming sound and a picture of her face at the center of the screen.

You do the same...and you hear a BRANK as the terminal flashes red, displaying the horsey face of a rather unfortunate looking young man with a bowl cut and a lot of freckles. Your heart nearly stops. Several weapons are leveled at you simultaneously by power-armored guards, but the Paladin steps between you and them. “Cease this.” She sighs and shakes her head, “I know what's going on here...”

“But Countess, this isn't...” One of the guards, with slightly more ornate armor, protests.

“Isn't what? Do you think uniforms grow on trees? That's one of the boys we lost fighting around Mars. Clearly the ID chip wasn't replaced when it was given to one of the new recruits. I'm sorry about this, Wesker. I'll see everything put right.” She smiles at you, then takes your hand, and with a sharp look at the guards leads you onto a shuttle herself.

It's a short flight from there to the Avalonian battleship, and you're a lot more calm than you expected. You're putting your head right into the jaws of the beast, but...you're doing what you have to do. There's no point in being afraid when you only have one path ahead of you.

Tabitha keeps glancing from the stars outside the window, back to you, then back to the stars. “So, have you ever seen Earth?” She asks, just to make conversation.

“No, my lady. Nobody from out here goes there. Only the wealthiest people are allowed to live on Earth, because of how high the environmental tax is, and anyone who tries to go there illegally is ruthlessly slain.” You reply, as neutrally as possible.

She grits her teeth, “Barbaric. Earth is mankind's first home, it belongs to everyone. If we...I mean, once we win, we'll break that cage and let people live there again.” She sighs, “Melancholy, I know, but I was just thinking that once, my great ancestor must have gazed at these same stars from a vantage point much like this atop his ivory palace.”

“Huh?” You eloquently reply.

She smiles at you, “I believe in knowing things. For instance, I know that my family is descended from a mighty Terran ruler named Theodore, who wielded his might like a club against all enemies of his mighty domain. He rode upon a bull moose, and dominated the world with his great alabaster navy. It was said that even death itself feared him so much that it would only come upon him in slumber, lest it be crushed and beaten sorely. A man of both great strength and great compassion, a lover of the hunt and natural things. It is my earnest desire to be so excellent a person as he.” She is momentarily quiet, then adds, more softly, “You are a good listener, Wesker. I know the new recruits were all given the Duke's colors to wear, and there is more honor in his service than mine, I have yet to achieve great glory in this war...and yet, were you to say the words, I could perhaps prevail upon the Duke to enter you into my service, instead. We know the Duke is involved in kidnapping Naomi but I assume we don't know about Tabitha being involved, but still I don't think Caesar wants to really be friends with any of the Avalonians who kidnapped his girlfriend right now.
>>
>>1362001

You get a red uniform and answer directly to her instead of to the Duke. You'll be around both of them, on the Duke's ship, either way. See, Tabitha did bring her own ship to the Solar System, its gate capability was damaged at Mars and it was docked at 16-Psyche with a small complement of her troops and Dame Morgan Gray for repairs. It's now one of Admiral Starwind's vessels.

In practical terms there are numerous plot twists and some hidden bonuses to both paths, however in terms of being outed at a member of the UJCIDF it's a question of whether the Duke, who's fought you and heard your voice, is more likely to recognize you than Tabitha, who is more likely to spend time with you personally. That's for you to decide.

What do you mean the right way? Do you mean in a way that won't hurt people's feelings or doing bad things? Caesar has specifically said that he will do anything possible to get Naomi back. He has no reason to care at all about the people who took the person he loves from him.
>>
>>1362042
I mean not turning this into a giant damned mess where we have to fight everyone and everything to possibly lose everything. If good happens along the way, fine. But at the same time, abject paranoia and isolation will make things incredibly difficult. The paladins will always be close to Naomi, and we at least have a better chance with Tabitha.
One does not have to abandon morals to get the safest and quickest path. It simply requires understanding and proper planning.
>>
>>1362042
Caesar is a Kestrel doing this the right way means doing it in such an awesome way that even (most) of your enemies like you.

By the end of this Caesar needs to have rescued Naomi, be getting applause from the Duke and making Tabitha consider switching sides.
>>
>>1362065
>making Tabitha consider switching sides
I don't think Caesar would be interested at all, he seems like a very monogamous person I mean ever other girl he's ever met besides Naomi he's turned down completely.
>>
>>1362071
part of that was due to him being so damn autistic about his vidya and not caring about the rich girls. Naomi was more to his liking and had similar interests. Tabitha also has similar interests with her bike.

“There's more than enough honor in your service for me.” You're surprised by how cool your voice is, how steady...but then, you're facing a challenge as sharp as a monoblade, and an enemy more dangerous than almost any other.

She looks surprised for a moment, then a radiant smile crosses over her face, “I...well then. I'm glad of that, Wesker, and of your leal service as well.” She looks aside, a tiny bit of red in her cheeks. Not quite the look of a blushing schoolgirl, but of one admitting a personal fault, “Truth be told, I expected to be turned down flat. Asking a man for something personal is always hard, even for a Paladin.” She smiles sadly, “Your eyes are much too old for that face, you know. I've seen eyes like that before. You've known a great love, and seen a fair share of loss. I cannot promise days without sorrow, or a paradise waiting over the horizon, but even when the trials of life leave you ragged, I will be there to bear them with you. Our fortunes shall rise and fall as one. Kneel. Solar or Avalon-born, there is something you have earned.” Her voice becomes deadly serious.

You pause, looking up at her for confirmation as the shuttle lands in the mechbay. Behind her, out the window, looms a tremendous mech, scarlet lined in silver, with a white mask marked only by eyeslits and a pair of long, crimson, jointed segments like twin plumes hanging from its head, “Bow your head.” She instructs.

You do as she commands. She withdraws her gun from its holster, flips it around to catch it by the barrel, and taps you once on each shoulder with it, “In the name of the Lady and in the name of Queen Myna Plantagenet, I knight thee Sir Gaius Wesker. Though you knelt a yeoman, rise now as a knight in the service of the Roosevelt family, Sir Gaius.” Her lips quirk into a smile, "Who knows? I get a strange feeling about you, perhaps someday you shall be Sir Gaius, Paladin and rider of Gerin. After all, it is not as though a fallen Paladin cannot be replaced."

“What, really?” You blink at her from behind your sunglasses.

“Well, yes. It's been kept quiet, but after the public death of Count Ford I suppose there's less point keeping it a secret. It's not the first time. My cousin's Anseis and the Gerard once faced a Terran superweapon that came to ensure space control around a planet called Paley's World. In the struggle, the Gerard was damaged to the point of being unusable, and the Anseis badly hurt as well. When the Gerard was recovered, the cockpit and pilot were both missing, and the entire core of the strider...what the Solars call a mech...had to be remade to suit a new pilot. Fortunately, one was found. The perfect candidate.” She frowns, “I'm not being encouraging at all, am I? Do stop me when I do that, Wesker.”

“Yes, my lady.” You nod.

“I can see you rolling your eyes. Keep those sunglasses of yours, Wesker. I find I rather like what they do to the cast of your face. I know you haven't been told much, but rest assured, I'm looking after you now. I'll show you to your new quarters at once, they're next to mine.” The shuttle door opens, and she leads the way out, removing her helmet once you're safely in the mechbay of the mighty battleship. The setup is different than you're used to, but less so than you expected, it's mostly the nanofiber tapestries on the unused walls that throw you off. You also see that big golden jackass mech down on the other end of the mechbay with its arms crossed. Oh, its day will come. Next time you're gonna spear it in half.

“Speaking of which, it vexes me sorely that my cousin has put us in such a position. As it stands, she cannot be replaced as Anseis. After all, she and her strider remain alive and mostly intact. Unlike her virtue, which I suspect 'mon peasant boy Rowarc' has-...ah, ignore me Wesker, just salt in an old wound. For a cripple, Loriette has a knack for landing right on her feet.” She harrumphs indignantly.

“How irritating that must be.” You remark neutrally.

“You're being too nice, I know when I'm being awful.” She remarks, leading you down a hallway. From the maps on the walls, you're aware that you're being led past the crew cabins and into the very heart of the officers' suites. There's a mural showing Naomi, wearing a green, Greek-style robe, laying on a bed of flowers with petals blowing away from her on the wind. The Countess smiles at it, “Beautiful, isn't she?”

“Y-yeah.” Damn it, not now, your mouth is dry and your eyes are stinging.

“But...it's not the same. No matter how I look at it, I'm seeing two different faces, two different sets of expressions. Wesker, do you think people should be prepared to do absolutely anything for a noble cause, one they truly believe in? By anything, I mean even something they have moral qualms about? I don't think either answer to that question is wrong, I'm just curious. I've got my share of dilemmas too, you see.”

This is sort of a tricky thing for Ceasar to answer. He will do alot but some he will not do. Like we have said, we will do alot of things but even we will not defect to the avalonian side.

One can do plenty but everyone should have lines they will not cross, lest they become the monsters that they claim to fight.

>>1362262

>>
>>1362283

I'll just say that the choice isn't as simple as that. It's easy to say that Yes is the obvious choice because Caesar's been so determined to save her...but the worst thing he's done pursuing it is KO two people who wouldn't let him go withut a fight, not exactly deep moral qualms. It's also easy to say that No is the obvious answer, because of what happened during the conversation with Stern and the real story of Rudolph Merrow, Ji Xifeng, and Floyd Beck, but Caesar isn't his father and this isn't the same situation. Ultimately, when you vote on this particular choice, throw away all preconceptions about what the plot so far has led you to, and vote what makes sense to you, if that makes sense.

Also keep in mind that your choice might affect Countess Roosevelt's actions in the future. After all, she has the ability to do things too.

Sides, 'doing anything for the sake of the mission' seems like what Fairchild has done and keeps on doing. Even Caesar with all his experience with bullshit knows when enough is enough.

>>1362302
I feel that despite Caesar not wanting to live in his father's shadow, it's extremely fitting for him to follow Rudolph's path up to a certain point. Hopefully, he'll get a better outcome than his father.

If he fails, which I think is all too likely, it would be much more fitting if he made peace with himself rather than stewing in his pain like his dad.

If anything, this is the kind of romantic story Avalonians eat up.

Worst case scenario, we get kept close to Naomi to assuage their guilt while knowing that as a prisoner we have a duty to try and escape, and so they try to make us defect while keeping us under guard. Like, The Great Game rules style from IRL.

Real worst case scenario is they kill us in front of Naomi and she goes full GREEN MAN escaping to unknown destinations to build an army of death and revenge on pretty much everyone. Worse worst case is she eats the Avalonian Lady and uses that to do it.

Hells, I have options to simply brute force armor. The grand cracker can shred off 8 sp form a ground of mechs, the heat axe on standard or the ball and chain for melee are standard AP, even the Beam Battle Axe for the guardian is strong enough that it could do some damage on the second blow. “You want a yes or a no?” You push your sunglasses up on your nose, considering it seriously.

She smiles, “I prefer straight answers, yes. I think they tell me more about the sort of person someone is. Both answers are acceptable. My decision about you hasn't changed, but seeing a person ride a jetbike or stand up to a local enforcer without any real fear that they could lose an actual fight doesn't tell me about your values.”

At first you want to say yes, you absolutely would do anything to get Naomi back...but then you think about it. Finally, you shake your head, “No.”

She arches her eyebrow at you and doesn't say anything, waiting expectantly.

You can't tell her that you aren't going to side with the Avalonians and that, if worst comes to it...Naomi is a Jovian pilot, she'd rather fall in battle than become a full-fledged tool of the Green Men. It's an idea that hurts to think about. It hurts a lot to even contemplate. However, you're too smart not to have thought of that, too smart not to consider the possibility. “Some deeds don't just blacken your soul, but the cause you fought for as well. You have to know when to stop, before you become a monster. Not just for your own sake, but for the people you want to protect.”

“The people you want to protect...that's an odd way of putting it, but I suppose you're right. You're not one of the skull children, are you?” She smiles. It's a sad, but understanding smile. “You're much too eloquent.”

You smile back, expecting that you're about to get into hand-to-hand combat with a Paladin. This one preferring firearms is a problem, but you're less than a dozen feet apart and have a spear, it's not insurmountable.

“One of the pirates...not these, the ones from the Band, maybe, or perhaps you're from one of the Belt colonies we've stopped at. Why are you here, Wesker?” She inquires without an ounce of visible hostility.

“To protect someone from the Jovians.” You reply unhesitatingly. In the face of danger you don't feel even a flutter of nervousness.

“I suppose that's why we're all here.” She smiles, looking just a little bit sad as she walks over and ruffles your hair. It's unexpected, and she seems to do it completely thoughtlessly, like you're a sheepdog she can't help petting or something, “It's alright, Wesker. Ah!” She checks a wall-mounted chronometer, “The Duke should be getting back from the colony now. It might be a good idea for you to meet him now, but there's no shortage of time. Would you rather clean up, first? You do have your own quarters to settle into.”

Get it out of the way since we have Rin here to run interference. Rin will talk more and it should be a short meeting while his attention is divided.

As a knight now though, I guess our response should be: "whichever is more convenient for you, my lady."
>>
>>1366468
tough call.. settling in gives us time to plan and think. See an escape route or where we can go. Naomi would likely be close to Duke though, since he'd likely watch her while near.

>[I'd rather go meet the Duke]
We will run into him sooner or later, and this can help us plan better. We don't have a lot of time and information can change how a plan works.
>>
>>1366468
>[I'd rather settle in]
Our mission is still to rescue Naomi. Meeting the duke is a distraction we do not need.
>>
>>1366396
Why would you need AP grenades for Jews?

>>1366421
Someone hasn't seen the Dutchshell or the Predator. The issue with the Hardshells isn't that they're bugs, it's that they're shit Mechs forced into a bug template.
>>
>>1366523
Trying to get to naomi will probably involve meeting the duke at some point or another first. We might even need to take some time to get the guards used to our presence before we take action since we only have one shot at this.
>>
>>1366535
We realistically don't have much time here. This tourney at best is lasting a few days and what you want would take weeks to do. We have to just get in and get out as quick as possible without drawing to much of a fuss from the crew.
>>
>>1366526
To break through a bunker or fortified spot.
>>1366544
searching aimlessly would waste time and make us look suspicious as well. As is, the Duke is the one we know would be close to her. He has that music he used on her and who knows what else. If we know where the Duke is, we have a better chance at both avoiding him and finding Naomi.
>>
>>1366544
Tournys not the end all be all though. Theres is still the negotiations ongoing and that might drag out. Especially if roarke keeps fleeing from them.

Also we can't just do this on our first meeting with naomi. We'd be heavily scrutinised and our actions watched since we'd be unknown. We'll at least need to be here a day or two.
>>
>>1366554
He also knows what our voice sounds like and is the most likely to recognize us. Besides we could easily sell it as us getting used to the ship and trying to get our bearings on it.
>>
>>1366556
And that runs into the issue of us not having enough time. While he may recognize our voice, it was us screaming, going NAOMI, and being hysterical. That does not give him much to work with so long as we stay calm. He didn't hear our talk with SOUL or the other stuff, so he has no idea what our normal voice is.
>>
>>1366554
We are new and we got lost. There's an excuse for poking around, if anyone questions us we just tell them to ask paladin whatshername for confirmation. Also I dont think Caesar knows the duke keeps Naomi close and even if he did the duke surely needs to put her somewhere while he goes out and tries to diplomance people.
>>
>>1366589
Golden shiney bastard is the person who took Naomi away in the first place and he's the Leader. Chances are he would keep her close both for monitoring, protection, and because she's a green lady clone. That excuse only works so much and there will be locations where we would be pushed away from if we are new. This is a situation where the risk will make things smoother, and even then, where would we look? This is a ship bigger than the Rhinehawk and Jaburo and we don't know where everything is. Asking questions that would be relevant would also draw eyes.
We simply cannot waste time blindly searching.
>>
>>1366468
>>[I'd rather settle in]
Lets not meet the Duke soon, he may feel that something is fishy.
>>
Wonder how this >>1344456 is coming along?

>>1366624
And talking to the Duke and potentially get outed will give us the clarification to get into those places? And besides wouldn't you assume they would be keeping her in a cell so she couldn't wander off or escape.
>>
>>1366624
Tell someone you have been ordered to familiarize yourself with the ship in case of emergency and we'll have an excuse to wander around and probably even get given a map.
>>
>>1366644
>And besides wouldn't you assume they would be keeping her in a cell so she couldn't wander off or escape.
Usually... yes, but I think that Cesar will realize that this is not the case when he finnaly meets the Duke.
But it still isn't the time for this, as we need to get info before getting the plan rolling... And make a plan, because we don't even have that yet.
>>
>>1366644
But where is the cell? Which part of the ship? Hell, she could be in the Duke's room cause she's royalty and her running away is impossible considering the shit they did to her. Hells, we saw what music could do to her, so it doesn't take much to assume they'd have a easy way to keep her docile.
Seeing him first also helps add a bit of weight to our disguise and make asking questions easier if he puts out word to help the new knight. Even knowing where he hangs out helps us because that can be a spot we can avoid on our escape. This entire plan rides on both getting Naomi and leaving safely and the Duke is the biggest risk to that.
>>1366654
Right now we are wearing a generic crew man outfit. Familiarizing would get us the mechbays, the standard places, and that sort of stuff, but not where they keep the princess. Thats the sort of post the Duke would give to TRUSTED knights. We would not be that.
>>
>>1366644
Probably not a cell. Seeing as she was successfully brainwashed. But some form of a gilded cage to be sure.
>>
>>1366679
How much do you think Caesar knows of what they did to her? As far as we know the music could have only worked temporarily your relying on knowledge that Caesar doesn't have.
>>
>>1366679
We dont need to be a trusted knight to find out where they get sent. We just need to find out what places are off limits to scrubs like us and we'll have a fair idea of where to look.
>>
>>1366672
I thought the plan was to concuss everyone with the shock baton and then bail out like Goku on his Familial Responsibilities?
>>
>>1366701
Never assume something is a one time gig, especially with a big name like the duke. And in character, it would make sense. The princess is always near the final boss when the fate of the world rests on her.
>>1366712
And you don't think asking and snooping around those spots would be the least bit suspicious? Not to mention they could be on opposite sides of the ship.
Sticking with our Paladin would be better for that, and the Duke is going to be an issue no matter what. Avoiding him will make us look MORE suspicious anyways.

“That's your decision, not mine, my lady.” You bow slightly, it seems like an Avalonian thing to do.

Her smile widens, “You're doing a good job, Wesker. Keep it up, but what would you rather do?” She folds her arms and waits.

You shrug, “I'd rather settle in.” You've got plenty of reasons, good ones, namely that you want to explore a little, and that you're worried about the Duke recognizing your voice. The biggest one, though, is that you'd rather be in your room for a while than enduring more of this tension.

She nods, “I thought so. Believe me, he's intimidating even to those of us who share his fellowship, and you're fresh off a day colonyside and probably want to clean up a bit. Come along, this way.” She leads you farther into the officers' section. It's profoundly strange, seeing ornate wooden doors set into the smooth, white walls of the ship, a completely unfamiliar aesthetic. All of the Jovian ships you've been on have been modern, functional, and the same goes for the pirate ships you've seen. This battleship is strangely...luxurious is the closest word that comes to mind. There are tapestries in the mechbay, for Jove's sake.

She places her palm against the lock on one of the doors, and it pops open. Inside are probably the nicest quarters you've ever stayed in, objectively speaking. In terms of how well you actually like it, it has no game console and none of your models or posters or anything and therefore it's inherently awful. The bed looks thick enough to drown in, and window-shaped viewports projecting a holographic view of the stars outside give you the rather dizzying impression of being in a room at the top of a high tower. To your right, along that wall, are doors leading presumably to a hygiene room and storage. You do have a holoscreen, at least, the Avalonians aren't complete luddites.

“You've got the run of the ship, save anyone else's rooms and the meditation chamber near the Duke's quarters. People's privacy should be respected. I'll call on you when I'm back, so...try to be here an hour or so from now. If we miss each other, I'm next door, and I'll just be doing a bit of reading. Oh, and if we're lucky...one of your new confederates will be around from now on. You'll like the Sun Knight, Sir Letholdus. Apparently Red Siren indicated to the Duke that he could, perhaps, be returned to us. Dame Gray might be more complicated, she'll be a mentor to you and to Sir Letholdus once we negotiate her return too.” She claps you on the back, then crisply turns around and departs.

You briefly consider making a run for the colony or even sneaking back onto the Rhinehawk for some electronics, setting up Bluegill Joe while you have the chance. No, you don't plan to be here for long, but boredom isn't something you deal with well, it's certainly not conducive to your planning.

That meditation chamber sounds suspicious, so as soon as she's gone, you start wandering around through the officers' section of the ship. The holographic maps are barely needed to identify the room in question. It has a strange, hexagonal door of shiny, black metal and a lot of room on either side. You also spot, before they spot you, a pair of burly Avalonians in power armor, two-handed chainsaw blades resting across their shoulders.

Yes, but in the singular and some, while pricey, were using that cost in odd ways or had a means of for us to atata.
Rashad was a key example to that. Sure he had quad linked arms, active shields, and large amounts of weight loss, but due to all that, he was oddly easy. Because we hit so often and his active shield kept blocking, we were able to continue damaging his chest and destroyed him that way. Enemies will have better defenses or the smarts to set up counters for us if we head out alone.
Before, Paladins and the like were bonus bosses, things we could avoid. Not so much now.
>>
>>1367482
>we were able to continue damaging his chest and destroyed him that way
So if we just you know aim for the torso we should usually win. We hit alot and hit hard, if we just aim for the torso we can usually end fights quickly its the targeting other limbs or the head that usually make our fights take longer and make it more likely for us to lose.
>>
>>1367498
Yeah.. and there in lies the problem. Imagine that rather than having a active shield on his chest, he had it somewhere else? The legs, a tail, maybe have his beam swords serve as beam shields. He'd still succeed on his parries, but because his shield is on his chest, it didn't. Also, enemies with ablative energy shields, or reactive melee shields that are stronger than our fists will be a problem. Likewise, range or mobile fighters are going to be an issue if they keep moving.
>>
>>1367537
Well Wong's going to upgrade the pastebin at some point and we'll be able to spend cp again to upgrade the Kaiser so we should be able to deal with some of those issues.

“Hey, um, excuse me.” You start.

One of the armored men glances down at you, and then away. Somehow, he manages to look dismissive.

“Um, brethren...” You continue.

The knight snorts derisively.

“By the Lady, Stephen, stop being a ponce before His Grace catches wind of it and finds a lavatory for you to guard.” The other one swears, smacking his compatriot on the back of the helmet, “What is it, boy?”

“Damn you, Karl! We are guarding His Grace's personal chambers, have some measure of dignity for once in your misbegotten life!” Snarls the first guard, turning on his compatriot, “We are actual knights of Avalon, and not beholden to hold the hands of the most pale-bellied pages this degenerate backwater of a system can spew at us.”

“...Oh no, Stephen.” Karl presses his palms to his own cheeks as if pantomiming a shocked expression in ornate Avalonian power armor, “You're still wroth about that girl on the colony turning you down, aren't you? What did you call this before we got to Auditorium? 'A chance to seed the Lady's teachings on the fertile soil of mankind's home system'? Suddenly it's a backwater? Have you checked yourself for a rash? You're sounding a little bit raw!”

“Stifle thyself, Karl! You know nothing! Nothing!” Stephen bellows. He does, indeed, sound absolutely red-hot angry, “I thought she was a diamond in the rough, a lady among peasants, but NAY! Merely a graceless HARLOT who cannot appreciate the traditional arts!”

“You wrote her a sonnet, Stephen. A sonnet. Not a very good one, either.” Karl tries to interject, “We all tried to tell you it was a bad idea, but...”

“HIS GRACE SAID HE LIKED IT!” Bellows Stephen.

“His Grace was being polite! His Grace is always polite! Besides, he just said it showed promise, not that it was actually any good!” Karl remonstrates.

“Er...mess hall...excuse me please...” You try to get between them. “I fear wandering into any forbidden areas, and so...”

Stephen reaches out, puts his armored hand on the center of your chest, and shoves you. It's a short shove, but an angry one, and enhanced by his armor it has enough force to knock you backwards and slam your head against the wall, your glasses falling off. You stumble back up to your feet, ears ringing.

“Imbecile, get out of my sight.” Stephen snorts, and starts to turn away. So you take off your glove, and throw it into his face.

“Alright, then.” You draw your stun baton, and activate it with a flick of your wrist, “You and me, Stevie.”

Stephen wordlessly draws and activates his chainsword, stepping forward...only to have the humming blade of Karl imposed between you, “Witnessed. This will be a formal combat.”

“I'm not fighting some insolent brat!” Stephen snarls.

“Well, you're certainly not going to cut him down when you're in full sentry armor and he's wearing a uniform. He challenged you formally, albeit rather curtly, and his reasons were just. So either fight him properly or apologize. Look at it this way, a duel will cheer you up.” Karl shrugs.

“He's just a tadpole!” Stephen roars.

Karl turns his head to look at you, then back at Stephen, “Verily, but perhaps not. Look at him, he's ready to go at you right now, and he doesn't give a damn about your armor.”

“Verily.” You agree, “You tell your friend there that Sir Gaius Wesker is about to beat him like an unbalanced RTS. So, are we doing this now?”

“Tomorrow morning would be better, before the tournament. I've got money riding on the Templar.” Karl suggests.

“No! We do this NOW!” Stephen growls, “I'm not going to go easy on you, either.”

Karl sighs, and removes his helmet. Underneath, he has a rather thin face, with high cheekbones and short, rather spiky black hair. A thin shadow of a beard forms a continuous line from his sideburns, down his jaw, and along his chin, bifurcating enough to form a short mustache, too. “Feeling athletic, Sir Gaius?”

“Of course, Sir Karl.” You respond.

“Then it's a duel. Immediately.” He puts his helmet back on, presumably using some kind of comms equipment inside it, as he nods his head after a few minutes, “Great, I got us some replacements. Stunners or live steel, boys?”

Stephen snorts, “Whatever the little ladlet has the stomach for.”

Just to clarify, you're not fighting in the hallway. If you duel formally, that means having the same level of armor and same sort of weapon (in other words, live steel or stunners). Karl also just called for more guards rather than just leave the Duke's quarters unguarded.
>>
>>1367736

Sticking with stunners. Proves a point, keeps us both capable, and is a less dickish option for a small slight when there is no tactical purpose for it.

formal means formal, not a brawl.

“Stunners. I don't want to cost His Grace doormen this early in my time here. Besides, in these circumstances we need all the living knights we can get.” You respond with confidence.

“Feh, coward.” Stephen jerks his helmet off. He has long, dark hair, a shade of brown just a bit too pale to be called black, and a face that would almost be classically handsome if the features weren't so wide and brutish. Despite his relative youth, you can already see scowl lines starting to form on that face.

“Feh, common sense, you idiot.” Karl responds, “We've got one family heir locked up in some Jovian gaol already, I'm not explaining why you got killed in a stupid duel with a recruit to Aunt Millibeth.”

“You leave my mother out of this, Karl!” Stephen snarls back.

“I will, because I just heard you agree to use stunners.” Karl replies evenly.

“You're related? I'm sorry to have caused a quarrel between kinsmen.” You remark, although without backing down at all from the ass-kicking Stephen is about to get.

“Cousins.” They say in unison.

“Proud scions of the Van Damme family.” Stephen says as though just hearing the name should evoke a kowtowing from you.

“Grandfather was a vigorous old sort. Had sixteen children between two wives and a scullery maid.” Karl remarks with relish, making a hipthrusting gesture to demonstrate, “Who inherited it. Now there's a mob of us.”

“Grandfather was His Grace's right-hand man during the Revolution. Today, the Van Damme line are still the mailed fist of His Grace's wrath.” Stephen proclaims.

“...Except for cousin Hector, the rightful family head, who was taken by the bloody Jovians and is hopefully plotting his escape.” Karl clarifies.

“Keep that in mind as you serve His Grace.” Stephen tries to talk over Karl.

“Er, right. Although I was knighted by the Countess and, ah, I believe she's having me transferred to her service. Like I said, I'm new.” You cut in.

The two Van Dammes trade suspicious looks, “Think she's at it again?” Karl remarks.

Stephen glowers, “Shut your filthy mouth, cousin. She made one youthful mistake, it's not as if she's a serial...serial...” He looks for a word.

Karl shakes his head, “Forget it, Stephen. Baseless speculation at best and a dire insult at worst. Unless you want to duel Countess Roosevelt too, let's just drop it. Come on, boy, to the athletarium!”

“It's not called an athletarium, Karl. You made that word up.” Stephen complains, “It's a gymnasium with attached arenas for exhibition matches and...”

“It's a big room full of sweat and muscles. Athletarium.” Karl shakes his head, “You'd be a better knight with a little creativity, Stephen, and I mean that in the nicest way.”

“Not bowing down to your flagrant injustices to language is not being uncreative!” Stephen snaps, as the two of them walk down the hallway, gesturing for you to follow. From the other direction, you can see another two knights in armor arriving, one with her helmet off munching what's unquestionably a festival corndog from the colony.

“Oh, it's this way? I thought it might be here.” You turn to look at the meditation chamber's ominous door.

The two trade glances. Karl shakes his head, “No, that's more...right, you're definitely new. Think of it as a sort of music room. For a very important guest.”

“She who will renew our civilization, rekindle the hearthfire of Avalon!” Stephen says it like he's been just waiting for the chance to use that line.

Karl pinches the bridge of his nose and sighs, “Yes, her. Bradamante.”

“Bradamante?” You question innocently.

Karl shrugs, “Ask the Countess about her, she probably knows more than we do. Scary girl, never says a word, always wearing that helmet and armor. We've been told now's a delicate stage or something and we shouldn't aggravate her or she might accidentally kill us.”

“Perhaps His Grace just didn't want you bothering her.” Stephen suggests.

“Oh? I'll watch out for her. Where is she?” You know you're being a bit less subtle, but who can blame you?

Karl shrugs, “I don't know. With the Duke, maybe? She could be in there, we haven't been on guard duty all day.”

“It's been a while since we've seen her.” Stephen remarks, as the three of you enter a lift, going to a higher level and making your way to a huge, glass-walled workout room with elevated rings set up, circular and steel-grey with a roped fence around each one taller than your head.

Oddly, you do see the Countess, talking to a boy around your age with black hair, a pair of swords at his waist, and oddly pointed ears. Maybe he's a relative too, or something. She sees you, and her brow furrows in mild consternation.

Rolled 3 (1d10)

“A duel, ladies and gentlemen, a duel! Sir Stephen Van Damme has received, and duly accepted, challenge by Sir Gaius Wesker for reason of insult! Stunners, to unconsciousness!” Karl cups his hands around his mouth, calling out loudly. Everyone training or orbiting around the Countess and the boy stop what they're doing to stare at you.

By Jove you wish they wouldn't do that, being stared at makes you uncomfortable, especially when you're fighting someone older and presumably more experienced than you. A couple of drably dressed crew members remove Stephen's power armor and begin strapping him into something that only looks a fraction less protective, with advanced ceramic and metal plates and a bulletproof underweave. You look around helplessly, devoid of armor.

The Countess beckons one of the crew over, and whispers to them. They dash away, and return momentarily with a gravsled holding a suit of armor even more ornate. It has a metallic finish, trimmed in red, with a T-shaped viewslit and a short Grecian crest. You put it on, and sensors built into the suit adjust to your exact measurements, sealing in place with a faint hiss. Then you climb into the ring with the enemy knight.

“Gentlemen, your weapons.” A crewman announces, presenting you with a variety of stun rods, non-collapsible, to choose from. You wave him off, draw your baton, and flick it to its full length with a flourish. Stephen picks the longest one there, and you chortle mockingly.

He glares at you, “What amuses you so, varlet?”

“Knave, the doppelhander you wield will not embolden the dagger nature hath equipped you with.” You quip in a whisper.

He charges at you, sword held high.

>>
His downward strike is excellent, textbook-perfect, and with his longer reach he has every right to expect to land it first. He's expecting you to be scared, to hesitate and be overwhelmed, he's thinking that you don't know exactly what you're doing.

So you step forward and before his strike even comes down, you jab him once in the face and once in the chest. There's a hiss of electricity, and he falls to the ground in a heap.

“Victory to Sir Gaius Wesker!” Karl announces, and there's a tide of applause as you bow to the crowd, “I will ensure my cousin apologizes profusely, sirrah. Justice was on your side.”

The boy with the pointed ears is looking at you very strangely, and clears his throat, “Well fought, Sir Gaius. The matter between you and my vassal is settled, then?” His voice is oddly dignified, like an old man's.

You nod, a sudden, awful suspicion striking you at the word 'vassal'.

“Good. We are in a dangerous land, warriors, but fear not. Through the grace of the Lady, we have prevailed, and our gambit has succeeded. I have had word from Turpin, she and Bradamante have returned safely through the Gate of Jupiter and escaped the system with the aid of the pirates allied with us. The Lady's heir is on her way back to Avalon.” He raises his hand in salute, “Huzzah!”

“Huzzah! Huzzah! Huzzah! Huzzah! Huzzah!” The Avalonians chant, and you belatedly join in, as a sense of cold seeps through your entire body. This isn't going to be as easy as you'd hoped.

>>
>>1369905
Pretty much, unless we want Caesar to try and sneak onto Avalon itself to save her.
>>
>>1369912

Are we going to use the Shock Baton on the Lady?

Cause at the rate we're going we might just nip this war in the bud if we tried.
>>
>>1369905
Well, if we want a chance to get Naomi back, we need to head to avalon. Being a close second to a Paladin will help there. If we leave her be she will become the green lady and things get worse. Not only that, but intel is REALLY useful right now alongside possible fracture points for Avalon. Caesar is probably our best bet there.
>>
>>1369930
I guess. I just dont see Caesar being able to pull off an escape from avalon space on his own though. Seems like something you'd need the whole crew for.
>>
>>1369949
It'll be tricky, but also the easiest way. Gating there with our entire force will end badly since I'm sure their defenses are beefed up to prevent enemies from stopping her and they could trap us if we aren't careful. Caesar will be alone, but his imprint is much less as well. We'd have to make allies, maybe convince the countess and the Duke, but as Eustace has shown, a small vessle with some aid can slip something important through the cracks if their guard is down or focused elsewhere.
>>
>>1369978
Problem is we dont have a vessel, small or otherwise, and unless we stumble into a rebel camp or something everyone we are going to meet out there would be green loving cultists and we wouldnt even have our mech.

We needed help just to get a uniform.
>>
>>1370004
Then it's a good thing we met the Countess then. As is, both her and the duke likely find the whole sacrifice thing off putting. If we play smart they might help us. Either to leave with intel or with actually getting her off the planet.
>>
>>1369826
Is this a >[Continue] or we're all waiting for Samurai Jack to end?
>>
>>1370026
The Duke is one of her oldest supporters. I doubt he'll willingly do anything against The Lady.
>>
>>1370026
I dont know man, seeing as they are the ones who kidnapped her in the first place on the orders of someone they basically worship as a god I cant see them deciding to help us.
>>
>>1370037
He's also one who was hit hard by this whole thing. Just because you are a old supporter does not mean you will condone everything they do especially when it goes against the beliefs you had that made you support them in the first place.
>>1370038
And doing what you are told does not mean that you like it. Likewise, Duke sees her less as a god and more a friend and mentor. That question with the countess could affect things as well. Either case, the Duke said it best; 'A god can die, but it can't go mad.'
>>
>>1370054
The fact that he is actually doing it still points to him not helping us get her back. One bit of unseemly work isnt going to get him to turn his back on his nation and ruler for some random kid who is butthurt his girlfriend got kidnapped.
>>
>>1369826

>>
>>1369862

Everyone was so 100% convinced that the "Here's what I want you to do..." line from the Duke to King involved some kind of attack on Auditorium. Nope. It had already been established, too, that he'd been able to get supplies, mecha, and himself through the Gate of Jupiter to Qu'lir once already.
>>
>>1370026
>>1370037
>>1370038
>>1370054
>>1370066
This is an interesting discussion, and I'll just say this. The answer is more complicated than a yes or a no, or belonging to certain factions. Who those two people are matters a lot. I'd encourage rereading that little vignette involving Bradamante, and considering everything the two Paladins have done since then.
>>
>>1370496
It was pretty clever honestly. When he showed the image of Auditorium, one would assume he had a battle plan. Something directed at us. It's actually a really clever ruse. We focus on what is personal and forget that his role is simply to escort her. We also forgot about that aspect of King when he planned because them coming in was a possibility to. It was a simple strategy in hindsight, but we were preoccupied and current thoughts drifted to the possible cluster fuck.
Well done. You sent us on a proper ruse cruise on a sea of salt.
>>
>>1370462

No, that's a thing Caesar is in a position to discover and tell Roarke about somehow and you, OOC, already know.
>>
>>1370517
Exactly my point. Caesar can do some more spying but letting Roarke know that bit of info is vital.
>>
>>1370523
I can agree to that. We have a few more days before they leave, and even that info can help us with our plans. It narrows down what can happen and what we need to plan for. One option was acting the Duke, but now we know it's a bad idea right now.
>>
>>1370516

I'm amazed it worked, honestly. I'd also like to say that for anyone who might be thinking "we wasted our time, then!" No. God no. You've done a phenomenal job and made arguably the best choice at every point of this subquest, except for perhaps some of the write-in bits and that's because there's always the possibility of someone saying something just BRILLIANT that completely changes the expected sequence of events so it's hard to say there's a "best" result there.

As a side note, I'm really glad I found that particular suit of armor for Caesar, I'm pretty sure it's literally a redone version of the Faraam armor from Dark Souls. That's yours now, by the way. It's slightly less OP than power armor, but it doesn't need recharging and you can just...wear it around as much as you like, both for swag points and to cover your face.
>>
>>1370496
I never could think of a good reason why he would bring her to Auditorium.

Now I feel bad for not saying anything about it.
>>
>>1370523
>>1370534

It's a neat trick in writing that is not used often or well. Either the twist is revealed early, or a plot hole happens because the information is wrong or later changed to suit the scenario. It was simply our fault there.
>>1370558

>>1370624

>>
>>1370659

>>
>>1370748
>Perhaps you missed the part where there are lines we do not cross?
But what lines can we still cross? We should have a clean idea of that if you guys are really planning on going to Avalon.
>>
>>1370762
I'd say we kidnap the duchess and take her back to the Kestrel.

Threaten to seduce all their women if they don't return Naomi.

But seriously playing them outright mind controlling someone will threaten to unite humanity and the colonies against Avalon and could make it significantly dangerous to keep her.

More so than she's worth to the future of their race.

Like keep in mind this scope goes beyond the solar system.
>>
Honestly, the thing I'm saddest about is that we only got to use one sick burn on the enemy knight. There were some real gems up there.
>>
>>1370788

This isn't serious, right?
>>
>>1370880
Meeeeh.

We should def. Kidnap the douchesses.

Maybe point out to the Avalonians that this way of "saving" their people is more likely to destroy them.
>>
>>1370880
Well, while most of it is a bit headscratching, it might be a good PR move to let people know about them brainwashing Naomi if we find out in character. After all, the extra-solar worlds that support them might back off if we can prove that the whole "take over your minds" thing the old green men did was less propaganda and more "Something The Lady is doing right the hell now, seriously, this is hinky shit." Could cause them to lose some allied support.
>>
>>1370885
I do not see the point of kidnapping the duchess. I mean, especially as Caesar, the one-woman-man. Even from a pragmatic standpoint, she is NOT worth trading for Naomi in the green-lovers' eyes.
>>
>>1370891
PR isn't really the point here and it really doesn't do anything new since the public hates Avalon. If anything this makes things worse for us since this means someone is leaking shit. That hurts our mission of actually preventing that.
>>1370788
>>1370885
Trying to kidnap the combat capable and much more skilled paladin is even worse. They won't trade her for Naomi and it just polarizes both her and Duke.
Until the mission is over, we do not spout this shit to the public at all. If anything, contact should be sparse with the main kestrel units. Use the armor to hide our face, keep close, gather intel, find divisive points for the Paladins since they are still human and seem capable of regret and thought.
>>
>>1370895
>>1370904

"The Public" barely knows about Avalon.

Remember how we didn't even know about the war earlier in the quest? And how Jupiter and Mars are conflicting about Islamic being shoved onto the Colonies and that's hampering war efforts?

This sort of thing could easily unite them. Avalonians not being Green Men would become Avalonians being slaved to Green Men and requiring rescuing or being put down out of mercy.

Much like we've promised to do to Naomi if necessary.

As for kidnapping a paladin, A)We would do it outside her mech and b) we would cheat.
>>

Are you a military lady whose afraid her career has made her miss the best opportunity of her youth? No worries, the Iron Kestrels have plenty of strapping youths who are just as vigorous off the field as on it. True, there might be issues with careers but some have made it work. Even a certain high ranking General is involved heavily with the Kestrels - she's even on the auditorium with them!

> MFW we imply Fairchild is Tsundere for Roarke to the public and people hearing rumors about Regina and Moe attribute them to her.

"Now General, we know that the pirate Roarke has an . . . Unusual fascination for women, but we can't really justify you having a battle to group to chase him down and, bring him to justice as you say. We note that there are previous records of you offering him a position working "under" you so if it's a matter of your love life maybe a flattering dress would be better than a battle group. The Senate session is adjourned."

>>1377930
At work, so I can't post anything and even then, I'd really need to double check my math and rules since I made it using an autofill spreadsheet from 1d4chan and my command of the aystem is twnuous at best. Basic idea is that if the Kestrals are pirates, they're going to need a mech specialized for ship boarding actions, B and E, and close combat in confined spaces. So I figured I'd make a Medium Striker that would fulfill that. Armaments were:

1) Limited ammo, high power shotgun with AP, Hyper Velocity, and Scattershot. I think I made it damage 10?

2) AP Boarding Axe with damage 5?

3) Two Magnetic Breaching Charges. Basically high (10?) damage missiles with a short range and high power to break through ship armor or armored doors. Couldn't figure out how to make magnetic mines ala the Kampfer, so went with that.

4) A shield of some kind.

I also think I gave it heavy servos and thrusters in the torso and legs. I got stalled by space and weight efficiency as well as figuring out how to make an equivalent of flashbang emitters in the head (instead of gatlings) or in the shield. Then my computer died and I forgot a lot in the six months it took to replace stuff.
>>
>>1377982
Range 0 fuse missiles are pretty much magnetic mines if I remember right.
>>
>>1377999
Yup. Made those before with the Palatine here; https://pastebin.com/pYq2Jjdr and they are functionally the same. If they are non blast you can likely get away with a good number of them.
>>1377982
Scattershot's issue is that it's not good at higher damage since you need to beat the accuracy by 10 to get all that. Hyper velocity is unneeded as well. Halve the kills, make it a burst 3 instead.
>>
>>1377879

>>
>>1378051
Maybe they'll make a ground gundam that isn't shit in it's main environment?
>>
>>1377982
>Hyper Velocity
I doubt your shotgun has 1.5km range, so that's unnecessary. If Wong's even using the travel time rule, I can't really tell.

Like Dutch said though, Scattershot's bad at high Kill values. Learned that the hard way with the Blitz's sniper loadout. I should probably as Wong if I can trade them out for Blast shots. I'll get around to it some day.

>Boarding Axe
I think the only lowish kill AP weapon in the quest so far is the drill Harpies use, and IIRC the only fight they were in was the one where Roarke smashed 20 or so Harpies because only 3 could get through the Kaiser's Beta Armor, so I don't have anything to go on that would approximate the Axe's usefulness.

Looking at the numbers though, it 3 shots Knight limbs and 2 shots Bluegill/Pumpkinseed limbs. Bumping it up to 6K would take that down by one attack for Knights and Bluegills (so 2 and 1 respectively), but you would need 7K to one shot Pumpkinseed limbs (and 9K to one shot Knight limbs if you wanted that.)

>Magnetic Breaching Charges
They can ablate Starship scale armor, which is nice, but most ships in MSPQ use Corvette scale armor (and usually have around 50SP+) so hitting them with a 10K mine would only ablate a single point of armor. Unless I'm misunderstanding the vague "loses 1 Kill per successful attack of 1 Kill increments."

If you can salvo fire thrown weapons, you could make a low kill version of Dutch's chain mine and load your mech with a bunch of them to shred ship armor, along with 1 or 2 of your mines for doors and mechs. The accuracy bonus you get (8, but I remember reading somewhere that the +8 bonus should be 6, I'm probably wrong) would help you more reliably hit with a large salvo and get crits with them.

>A shield of some kind.
You can hardly ever go wrong with shields.

Thanks for the help guys. So aside from the fact that I still don't really know 100% how the damage, weight/space, speed, and maneuver systems work, I think I'm looking at this:

Medium Striker Structure all around with 6(?) kills each.

Medium Striker Armor all around with with 6(?) kills each.

Thrusters in the torso

Shotgun [Right Hand] with 5 kills, Burst fire 3, AP, and a capacity of 3 ammo per clip (2x extra Clips stored on waist ammo rack)

4x Breaching Charges [2 per leg storage rack] with 10 kills and Fuse

Boarding Axe [Stored on Back] with 6 kills and AP

Shield [Left Hand] with stats (?)

Flashbang Projectors [Head] if I can figure out how to make them

Sensors, Liftwire, and Stereo in Torso

I'll plug this into the spreadsheet when I get home. Am I forgetting anything essential?
>>
>>1378188
That's probably a good way to do it.
>>
>>1378249
>Medium Striker Structure all around with 6(?) kills each.
Medium Striker torsos have 8 Kills, the Head has 4, and the arms and legs have 5. Medium Striker armor has 4SP.

Assuming all the servos are the same size, heads and wings have half the kills of a torso, armor has half as much SP, and Pods cost half as much. Arms and legs have half+1 the torso kill value.

>Thrusters in the torso
Unless I'm missing something obscure, anything that takes up Space can be put anywhere so long as there's enough space for it. No wait, Handy weapons have to be put in arms and Clumsy weapons have to be put in legs.

4x Breaching Charges [2 per leg storage rack] with 10 kills and Fuse
Don't forget Range 0 since you're throwing them and that'll drop the cost significantly.

>Sensors, Liftwire, and Stereo in Torso
Sensors on a humanoid mech get a -2 malus if they're not in the Head. Put the backup sensors in the torso.
You don't need to worry about specifying where the Liftwire and Stereo are located since they don't take up Space.
>>
>>1378249
for the flash bang projectors... I'd guess a head mounted missile system with a "smoke" modifier and short duration which you can fluff as a flash bang (flares are a thing but they only increase visibility iirc and can't be used to blind like smoke missiles can)
>>

oh... what about the Cockpit/emergency escape?

>>
>>1378157
>GMs worse than Zaku IIs.

People still believe this?
>>
>>1378384
Because it's true. Armor was thinner, strength was less, and they were not robust to start with. The beam gun helps them, but these were the sort that used E-caps. If given the same sort of gear, they would be at an disadvantage. What they DO have that did give them an edge was what I just mentioned; the learning computer data. Most mechs, zeonic included, were manual beasts and made every movement difficult due to that. With the data from the gundam, that changes. There were macros, means to automate base movements so the soldiers are able to dodge and shoot better. It gave them a major edge against Zeon, and beam weapons could do well against armor, which is why the GM Sniper II is a intimidating foe.
But the GM itself without all those things? No. They were cheap and designed to be so. The thing that makes them great is simply the weapons that can be taken, and the data which was given to them. As a frame and base machine? They aren't much.

So I think I've done this correctly assuming that the 140 is the cap. Introducing Elrey "Viejo" Sadhana and his chicken-legged mech, Lisandra:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1c7pHrNlpGz53aR6qOvBtVn6GVDDMZUzZYSn1Hvcl19A/edit?usp=sharing

I expect I haven't done everything right since I couldn't find the handy options under the gun section and I apparently don't have a copy of either rulebook anymore. This was my backup entry mainly because I worried too much about copying the Palantine that was mentioned earlier and I couldn't figure out how to make a plasma-based flamethrower/cutting torch combo weapon in the system and even if I could, I'm pretty sure that's too warcrime-ish for the Kestrals.
>>
>>1378941
The Palatine is a 181 cp model that I made to see if I could create the Kampfer. Think you are finish. Solid projectiles have their ap in their ammo, not the gun, and handy isn't really needed. Creates a weird nest doll thing if you try to have your handy gun hold something.
>>
>>1378941

Well you made your Breaching Gun and Bayonet Handy. I assume you meant to say they're Handheld.

If you want Wong to include it in the game, go into the Rogue's Gallery and copy the format there in a pastebin. He'd probably take one look at the spreadsheed and decide he doesn't want to deal with that.

Oh yeah, Wong doesn't allow fractional spaces. You always round up spaces that aren't even numbers. So your mines take up 2 spaces and the flashbang takes up 1, etc.

>>1378986
Mekton Zeta specifically says Handy weapons can't be handheld.

>>1378992
Wong doesn't like the idea of mechs losing weight as they fight. He doesn't want to do the math.

Think I formatted this correctly?
>>
>>1379145
There are a couple mistakes, but it's formatted correctly.

Main Sensors take up a space.
It also seems you forgot to list how many reloads your Breaching Gun has (if it still has them, that is.)
I think you accidentally added Active to your shield's name, since it has the stats of a standard shield. You also forgot to say which arm it's mounted on.
You also didn't specify that you have 1 Breaching Charge pack per leg (just adding ",one per leg" after the x2 would be enough.)

Oh, just in case you don't know, Wong's also made some houserules about ammo. I should have told you before, sorry. Ammo doesn't have weight no matter what (and has no structural kills either) but you do add the Spaces of however many shots are in a clip to a gun's total spaces. You do that before space efficiency and Weapon Mating.

You did a lot better than I did on my first pastebin since I didn't copy Wong's format.
Sorry if I'm nitpicking, Wong'll probably just tell you to fix the errors if there are too many.
>>
>>1379145
So, I know that there are other people helping you with this, but there's just a bunch of things that need correcting so I'm going to show you them.

>Change your arms to Medium Striker arms.
As is, right now your mech can't even hold its own gun. Now mind you, we build our frames using the servos from the core book, so each limb weighs half a ton less than they should.

>Hydraulics: Heavy
Are you actually purchasing Heavy Hydraulics? Cause that's a thing you can do. For the cost of 1/10th the pre-weight efficiency total cost of your mech and a space in each servo, you can an additional 1k to your melee damage and lift 1.5x your normal capacity.

>Main Sensors
Sensors take up at least one Space, except for Superlight. Looking here, it seems as though you're just using the ones in the core, so it should read like this: 4 CP, 1 Space, 2 kills in structure, 1 ton, Sensor Range 7km, Communication Range 1000km.

>Targeting Computer (Torso)
What is this? Are you trying to say that your Targeting system is located in your Torso? Or is there an option that you wanted that you forgot the name of?

>Torso Cockpit with Environment Pod
Please reformat it to read: Cockpit with Environment Pod (Torso)
>>
>>1379145
>>1379660
cont.

>Stereo (0.2 CP)
Should be: Stereo (0.1 CP). Maybe you mixed the cost up with the Anti-Theft Code Lock? Also an essential to buy.

>Breaching Gun w/ Mated Bayonet
Just mention that you have 2 Reloads for your gun. And change the range to read as 175m.

>Breaching Charge
So, to figure out how many kills in structure each set of charges has you take how many kills it does in damage, then multiply it by the number of rockets, finally divide that number by 15. For non-whole numbers be sure to round up. Using this method your charges should have 2 kills in structure and weigh 1 ton for each set.

There's a couple more things, but I'll wait for you to fix these before getting to them.

I'm guessing the Targeting Computer LateAnon's referring to is this from the Tactical Display book.

It acts as Verniers for ranged attacks only, mainly to help bricks that get screwed with accuracy due to Maneuver Value.

It's a cost multiplier system and it stops working when the main sensors get knocked out.

>Main Sensors (Head): 4 CP, 0 Space, 1 Kills, 1 ton
Are you using Space Efficiency on the sensors? Wong doesn't let people do that.
Also you forgot to change the sensor's weight to 0.5 Tons.

>Handheld Breaching Gun: Range 175m, WA +0, 6K , Burst 2, 10 Ammo Per Magazine (Armor Piercing), 9.45 CP, 10 Spaces, 3.5 tons [5 Space Efficiency Used]
Why does this weigh 3.5 Tons?
To keep the possibility of confusion to a minimum, you should change Ammo to Shots in "10 Ammo Per Magazine (Armor Piercing)."

>Left Arm-Mounted Active Shield: DA -2, SP 8, 8 CP, 1 Spaces, 4 tons [2 Space Efficiency Used]
This is wrong. Like I said, 8 SP and 8 CP are stats for a Standard shield. If it was an Active shield, it would cost 12 (since Active shields all cost 1.5 times their SP value at base) and would take up 6 Spaces.

>Right Leg-Mounted Breaching Charges: Range 0m, WA +0, 9K, 2 Charges, 1 CP, 1 Spaces, 0.5 tons, Fuse (1 Kill of Structure)
Missiles have 1 structural kill for every 15 Kills of damage, rounding up. So from their 18 kills of damage, each pair of these have 2 Kills of structure and weigh 1 ton.

>Head-Mounted Flash Emitters: Range 0, WA +0, 4K, 3 Charges, 0.9 CP, 0.9 Spaces, 0.5 tons, Smoke, Flare, Scattering, Burst 2 (1 Kill of Structure)
Don't forget there's no fractional spaces, these take up 1 space.
I assume that Burst 2 is supposed to be Blast 2. Don't forget to fix that.

>Thrusters & Speed: 2 per leg, 3 in the torso [1 Space Efficiency Used]
Technology in the MSPQ universe has yet to reach the point where you can use Space Efficiency on Thrusters, so you'll need to change this for it to be in the quest.

>Land MA 14
How do you have 14 land MA? Mechs that weigh 20-39 tons have 5.

My advice would be to stop sinking so much CP into Weight Efficiency. People kept doing that earlier in the quest, it both annoyed Wong and wasn't as useful as they thought it would be. Just stick dropping down to -3 MV and go back to the Hydraulics since IIRC they increase throw distance, which will help since your mines only have 150 meters of range. You'll have to ask Dutch about that though, he's actually used them on a mech.

It is. Your Breaching Gun only has 7 Kills in structure, so it should weigh 3 tons.

>I'm going off the values described on page 50 of the Mekton Zeta Plus Manual
Which values? Page 50 has a table, so the values everyone thinks you're going off of is the Medium Striker sensors.

>6 Spaces for Thrusters that cost 8.
Remember, thrusters and other forms of propulsion take up as many spaces as they cost. Let's just make it 3 per Leg and 2 in Torso and call it a day.

>>
>>1380150
>I'm going off the values described on page 50 of the Mekton Zeta Plus Manual
Every sensor on that page takes up one space, there's a specific column on the table dedicated to it.

>Isn't the weight of the gun equal to the total number of kills of the gun divided by 2?
And your gun has 6 Kills. Don't forget Wong declared that Ammo doesn't have structural kills or weight.

>Heavy Hydraulics: +1 Melee Damage Bonus. 1.5x Lifting Capacity (1/10 = 150kg, 1/5 = 1,500kg, x1 = 30t, x10 = 300t, x100 = 95,000t. See pg 117 of MZ+) Servos take up 1 extra space. 0.1x Cost Multiplier.
Your mech is x1 Scale (everything you make is until you run it through Scale rules) so you only need to list the x1 Scale lifting capacity.
>Servos take up 1 extra space
The Hydraulics take up 1 space.

>Left Arm-Mounted Standard Shield: DA -2, SP 8, 8 CP, 1 Spaces, 4 tons [2 Space Efficiency Used]
Missed this, you forgot to erase [2 Space Efficiency Used]

Thrusters & Speed: 2 per leg, 2 in the torso. Flight MA 6
Just noticed this as well, that's not how Thrusters work. At all. First you decide on what MA you want, then multiply that by 0.0375 (the multiplier of Thrusters) then multiply that number by your pre-Weight Efficiency weight. That number is the cost and Space requirement of your thrusters.

So calculating your thrusters, your pre-Weight Efficiency weight is 43.5 Tons, so the equation for your thruster cost is 6 x 0.0375 x 43.5, equaling 9.7875. You round thruster cost to the nearest whole number, so your thrusters take up 10 Spaces and cost 10 CP.

>Weight Efficiency: 8
>Total Weight: 35.5 tons
Always stick with the minimum amount of weight efficiency. Just go to 39 or 39.5, the extra you spend has no effect.

Roarke has the advantage of channeling the spirits of the ancient rock gods, including their legendary sex drives.

Caesar and Amos are both monogamous (at the preference of the thread), while Mohammed comes from a culture where having multiple wives is less unusual and is still heavily hassled by having to balance his two women. If you want to romance Tabitha, though, I won't stop you from trying.

>>1377799

Feddies all rook same.
>>
>>1380245
A scorned rin is a death-sentence though
>>
Sidenote: After reading back through previous threads, there won't be any more where I'm controlling both fighters. It always seems to be more mechanically interesting when there's a different mind on either end of the fight. If neither player is controlling their mech, I'll either control one and grab one of you to control the other, or possibly grab two of you and just have you man the sticks.
>>
>Find pictures that don't look like ass

>>
>>1379009

You're entirely correct even if it sounds slightly unflattering in text. Besides, mecha in this setting are literally not using fuel unless I've been severely misunderstanding how a cold fusion engine would work.
>>
>>1380273
Sorry, didn't mean for that. I don't blame you, if it makes up for it. I wouldn't want to have to track how mech weight changes during a fight.
>>
>>1380254

Tabitha Roosevelt isn't Rin, but she's enough like her that breaking her heart after accepting her advances would, indeed, be a dangerous path. I'm thinking there's going to be more Caesar stuff between the rounds, I'm having fun exploring some of the Avalonian side of this war after seeing the Kestrels and SSL up close.
>>
>>1380277

No, no, I was just teasing, I wasn't offended or anything. It's true that I don't like doing unnecessary math. There's a lot of stuff that needs doing, particularly esoteric plot-planning stuff (there's nothing worse than realizing something you had planned makes no sense and having to redo it) and avoiding extra math is helpful.

For instance, I am SHAMELESSLY procrastinating on fixing the system of looting parts for upgrades now that Roarke can mow through armies by himself.
>>
>>1380292
Are we gonna see some madmax lite stuff for the avalonians. What with the WITNESSED and what not.

I know what that's like, I'm the King of procrastination. I have a FoTS campaign I need to finish, a New Game+ of Andromeda and its multiplayer, I need to finish VA-11 Hall-A, haven't started reading any of The Beast Arises books, still need to get around to getting all the weapons from the Ringed City to +4, have just started a MOO game on a large map today, and STILL have yet to start stating a Dragonslayer Armor mech, even though it seems insanely cool every time I think about it.

In retrospect I need to break the habit of binging a single bit of entertainment until I burn myself out on it. I start so many books and game then just never finish them.

On a related note I've found myself wondering how entangling melee weapons mounted on non-arm (specifically torso) servos would work. Would it be impossible to use them for anything other than grabbing (since the other options specify the use of arms)? Could you dismember and use that servos size on the table? Could you do none of them, but still obtain the effect of locking the target in place by just making a generic 'grapple' attack with no other special effects?

>>1380273
It's quite understandable, fuel rules are fucking stupid and tedious and kill fun, as does recalculating weight constantly for every bullet fired.

It seems like you're ignoring knockback as well, and this also seems like a good call, because knockback as written is crazy bullshit. If I'm reading it right it seems to have been written with the core game's pathetic laser popguns (where 6k is considered enough to call a weapon 'heavy') as a starting point and just never corrected for the addition of space efficiency and what it would do to weapon creation, since any mech of even medium weight (under 70 tons) *will* lose actions from any attack of even mild power, which would turn fights into a battle of stunlocking, and that's just no fun for anyone.

But then all this is par for the course, for a game with such crunch Mekton puts an unusual amount of the onus on GM's to make calls about its rules.
>>
>>1369648
Victor, darling, let me just confirm it, are you going to be able to pilot the Templar today? If not, do you want me to pilot it?

Because I may be late one or two hours for the session, depending on how late I get back home today.
>>
>>1380306
Well, considering that Roarke is in the 'I have my own army' phase, seeing a large number of scrap and parts being funneled and recycled into our machines would make sense. Sensor cores have value, ammo can be re-purposed, armor melted down and reshaped, and thruster arrays reused. It's part of the advantage of not being held back by corps.
Hells, I can see the entire space jam ring reused as well to upgrade something or to make it's own fleet of mechs once it's done. Would see more use than most Olympic arenas.

As Caesar settles in for the night after his duel and dinner, getting to know his new 'comrades' beneath the eye of Countess Tabitha Roosevelt, time rolls on. Morning comes, and with it, day two of the tournament.

During the night, the entire arena has been redone. Now a seemingly flat surface is presented to the audience, marred by diamond-shaped trenches dug out of the metal. At least, that's how it looks. Really, the floor has been raised above the bottom of the hull, but the effect is the same. Trenches.

Victor's cheek is practically burning from the friction of the kiss Akai left on it, but friction is warming, the scraping together of two very different souls is what produces the sparks of affection that blossom into the fires of devotion. His Templar is freshly repaired, gleaming with a coat of polish, and he barely hears Roarke Starwind announcing their names as he and his opponent enter the new arena, too busy taking in details of the terrain.

The enemy's mech, in contrast to the knightly Templar, is a heavily armored and upgraded Pumpkinseed, with the Iron Kestrels logo on one shoulder. Its dull, olive-green coloration isn't particularly fancy, built with utility rather than decoration in mind. Its pilot, too, isn't really listening to the announcements. He's busy with his own fears. On the advice of a young man with some surprisingly sensible ideas about Green Man followers, Finn Bodvarsson, the veteran who has come to accept the nickname of Skunk is preparing himself to dissect the Templar and search for some machine that could, upon some unspecified signal, start disseminating spores. Now is the best and safest time, where the cold vacuum of space can flash-freeze them before they hurt anyone. Skunk knows all about spores. He knows what they do. He's seen it firsthand, over and over again, in his dreams every night. He had a name, once, and friends, even family in the service at the same time he was fighting for humanity. He threw all that away with a few steady pulls of the trigger decades ago, but it's something he doesn't like to remember during his waking hours. Not because of regret, or trauma, remembering their faces reminds him of WHY he does what he does in the way that he does it, but because it's a distraction, and right now he needs every ounce of his focus. “Mmmph.” He remarks to himself behind the cover of his gas mask.

How far away is it though? Your MA plus 16 boost would put you over 16 MA so you take a -1 accuracy penalty.
>>
>>1382409
Okay, I'll explain slowly.

Its the animu music blasting in my ears, it makes me GO FAST.

I was at 1612, after moving at 12MA in the last turn.

So I spent 16Boost points, +4Ma from a movement action to dropkick him from behind, exactly like Dutch did to me by boosting.

So I attacked him twice with my last action, as my lance is quick.

thats it.

>>1382419
there is half hex behind you man, even if it didn't, you would get -1 by getting a side attack.
>>
Alright, first things first. There's no way to get "behind" the Jager, it's still in its starting position without a full square behind it. So it is entitled to a Dodge AND Parry at +12.

Akai, I believe your speed that round was so great that it actually inflicts accuracy penalties on you. I'm looking them up now.

Thirdly, how many points of your 30 total from the booster pack have you spent?
>>
>>1382433
At this point? 16.
I didn't spent them in the first action, remembers?
>>
>>1382433
I believe i get -1 from high speed... But then, he gets -1 from the side attack if I'm not mistaken... Dutch was the last one to use that, so idk.
>>
>>1382434
I'm like 99.99% certain the free MA from being humanoid doesn't count towards the 12 MA speed limit.
>>
>>1382438
Oh sorry, you are right, I used 8Boost in the second action two.

So that makes 24 boost used total.
>>
>>1382432

Actually, it looks as though you can't get a side attack from there either, assuming his Zulu shield is on his left hand.

On the upside, if, as it seems, you traversed 16 squares and got parried, you might actually damage him through his shield with the sheer force of that kick.
>>
>>1382452
I traversed 20, you forgot the 4 from the MA

So its 14K of damage.
>>
>>1382432
So you moved 20 MA total and take a penalty of -1 to your hits. your roll total would be 20 for your kick. With his parry of 20, he makes it. Your two quick attacks would also be at -1. If I recall, your lance has no Accuracy buffs, so you roll those at 12.

Nobody is attacking your left hand. The question is whether your shield is on your left side, like most, or on your right, making you a southpaw.

>>1382459

He makes it, but how much of it gets through his shield and armor, is the question. A boostered dropkick is nothing to sneeze at.

Also, are you taking the two luck Akai spent on each lance strike into account?
>>
>>1382465
Your shield is Arm-Mounted, you can have your Glaive in your hand if you want.

Also, you can parry with your glaive at +13 or with your Shield(More SP) at +12.

What is your choice?
>>
>>1382474
They they aren't, and I roll at +13 usually, so with the 2 luck, +15.
>>
>>1382476

He specified his shield is on his left, so he's using that. Stop making the situation more complicated until we know exactly what's happened.
>>
>>1382374
Oh that's nice.
>>
>>1382473
One attack gets in.

Thats 7K AP to your torso... So... 5K of DMG to it?
>>

>>
That attack does 24K total, then. 40+ tons before weight efficiency, 20 spaces moved. -10K for the shield, -5K for the torso armor...that's 9K of damage. Meaning the Jager is down to 1K of torso structure remaining. Basically, the Templar pulled an EXTREMELY effective move off even if it was parried, and if it lands either of those lance attacks...well, what a gambit!
>>
>>1382503
Woah woah woah, it's +1K for every 2 hexes moved, not every hex.
>>
>>1382510

Thank you, I looked at that post and went "Wait...hold on a minute, something isn't right" but had no idea what! This is what happens when I normally think in meters!

>23 vs 17.
I'm not rolling crit, sorry for charging at you from high speeds and being unpredicable, the trauma from dutch battle caused this to me...

Still, it was an epic fight, and your flamethwoering sniping was really cool, thank you for that man.

Also, you were the one who inspired me to enter this tourney... I wouldn't be here if it wasn't it you senpai.

Thank you.

>>1382510
Yep, Wong is crazy.
But the two lance attack connected, so its over.

Man... Victor shouting "THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE!" was the perfect ending phrase.
>>
Ahem. So, no. 14K total. The shield blocks 10 (-1 SP, 9 remaining), the armor tanks the rest (-1 SP, 4 remaining). It's amusing that the Jager is essentially a Pumpkinseed rebuilt into an erzatz Morgan II.

>>1382493

With that +2 luck, you have 17, dodging the first lance strike.

>>1382500

...If you'd spent 2 more luck, this would be a second successful dodge versus the 22, but you didn't and it isn't. Make a parry roll versus 22.
>>
>>1382527
Wong doesn't count misformatted rolls, remember. That beat the first attack at 16 since he spent 2 luck.

>>
>>1382527
>the trauma from dutch battle caused this to me...
I'm not that bad. Makes it sound like I'm the final boss of the tourney.
>>
>>1382517
That should be 14K to his shield, so 4K to his arm... Which ablates it to 4SP.

But then, two lance attacks to the torso.

And yes... I went "ALL IN! ITS ALL OR NOTHING!"

I kinda planned it from the begining, but I was kinda counting on him going fr the trenches and dragging this on.

Also, some really sad things, maybe even if they maybe ended being "good" in the end, happened to my love life recently... So I was kinda inspired about that... I pray that I don't end losing that person....

>>1382533
HE PARRIED IT! LOL!

Hey, that second roll WAS a parry, he used the dodge before.
>>
>>1382550

>>
>>1382550

>>
>>1382550
You get -1SP for each attack under your SP level.

The kick was over it, so it also ablates your armor.
Then if Wong is right(and you already rolled dodge before...) you get an AP Lance attack of 7K to your shield.

It halves the SP to 4SP, then your Arm SP to 2SP and causes -1Kill to your arm.

Now Your Shield is at 8SP, and your arm at 3SP and 5kills.

Welcome to melee, things are about to get crazy!
>>
>>1382588

>>1382598
Thank god. Now for my cunning plan. I would like to make a called attack for his lance and throw the other three at his torso. 4 luck on the lance attack.
>>
>>1382598
a quick 7k weapon, no AP, with +1 accuracy. so he rolls at a +13. He won't be one shotting limbs, but 4 chances to crit and roll on that golden cinematic table.
>>
>>1382588

This, and you should be fine, I've posted lewder.

His shield was at 9 SP, and left arm armor at 4 SP, before parrying that second lance blow. 7K AP, no? This reduces Shield SP to 8, left arm armor SP to 3, and deals 1K to the left arm leaving it with 5K remaining.

This just proves that the faster people go, the slower the turns actually pass because of the ensuing confusion.

JAGER, it is now YOUR TURN and the Templar is ADJACENT to you. How will you attack it?

HE COULD STILL ATTACK. HE COULD STILL GET A COCKPIT HIT OR A REACTOR HIT. THAT DOESN'T MATTER.

YOU'RE STILL PLAYING AS RECKLESSLY AS POSSIBLE, A MARGINAL INCREASE IN SUCCESS WOULD NOT CHANGE THAT.

This quest isn't immune to that trope. The era of people in their mid-twenties being considered children is a historical curiosity in this setting. Partially, the War is to blame. You're an adult at sixteen, flat-out. Caesar could, at his age, get married, buy a house, and be sent off to fight in a war. Similarly, Colonel Stern and General Fairchild are years away from breaching the big Six-Oh and Stern is "the old guy" in the quest so far.

Everyone but one person will, at some point, lose. Losing in the second round isn't shameful, and for that matter, neither is losing in the first round. What matters, deep down, is that Akai and Victor's hearts are closer than ever as a result of this, and they both made it through okay. When a girl gets to confess her feelings and has them accepted, can you really call it a loss? Of course not! Not even with the sound of Thunderbird loudly puking into a bucket in the background! The real victory was never on the battlefield of mecha, but on the battlefield of two young people becoming adults together and achieving a happy ending!

I like playing old guys almost as much as I like playing guys with face concealing helmets.

Just for fun I when I thought up attacking the weapon I imagined hunks logic for doing going for it and spending most of his luck. What I came up with was during the war he wasnt actually much of a pilot and was just another scrub part of the human wave and he didnt actually git gud until after the war was over and he got all PTSD. I imagined whatever shitbox hes in isnt going to do much to a green mans bio mech, so coming from such a weak position he'd try to look for weakness that might otherwise not be obvious. I reckoned that a soldier spending his life to take out one of their methods of attack and leave them a bit more open to his buddies would be a pretty good trade.

Also the reason he has a flamethrower is so biological mechs wouldnt be able to regenerate and that even if he went down after landing one shot he would still be able to do some damage.

Now if Wong throws all that out I am totally 100% cool with that because all that really matters is that he has a mask and he doesnt speak much.
>>1382950
Since the mech was meant to be a gelgoog its basically a physical version of a beam naginata. I know how much you love those double ended weapons Wong.
>>
>>1382959
Skunks basically the Pyro isn't he? just add Greenman
>>
>>1382942
Talking seriously though, the Storm Dragons birthrate probably isn't very high... Should we start worring about it?
Is Oda going to talk at lenght about it with Victor and Akai?

Also if there is a good time to turning this relationship oficial, is probably now, as Victor failed at impressing all those people by winning...

I wonder how Oda and Lori are going to react... Wait, Oda and lori in the same scene... Oh God... that is going to be seriously crazy...

Also, how would Paladin Akai be? Just for curiosity...

>>1382959
Isn't it from CUSS though? It could have a story with Skunk.

Also... What was that story about splitting weapons in twine?
>>
>>1382959
Originally meant to be a gelgoog. I actually like the galbaldy more now, especially since it uses gyan parts.

>>
>>1382959

Confirmed.

Eh, I'm not really much of a fan of double-ended personal weapons, but they make more sense for a mech. A double-ended spear, ironically, is a real thing that existed in real life and really saw real use (really), making it the most practical double-ended weapon there is.

>>
>>1383008
Depends. Fatima would be the best proper Mom. Raising them for success and practicality while having some motherly traits. Clemmy and Rosita are going to be interesting because I can see them being affectionate, but also challenging the kids. Rosita will likely have the 'stacy's mom' thing going, so I feel sorry if she has a daughter. Sammy would be loving and overprotective, and our favorite mechanic will have.. interesting kids. Mainly because I can see her teaching her children how to make bombs in case a stranger tries to steal them.
Lori children will have drills and that laugh no matter the gender.

My dear sun knight, your humble words really touch my heart, but I can't really say with certainty that I was really the better one just for besting you on that fight, it was so tied that it could just have been a fluke of destiny's invisible hand, and with your sniping skill you may even would have bested sir skunk on this duel with you had your chance...

Well... That may answer my own question... How could I really say for certain that this wasn't just turn of fate or luck too?

I... You really leave me out of words... Incredible, I'm impressed on how you can make the internal world of someone turn around with so little words... Well done sir letholdus, I'm really light years of distance from your skill out of a mech.

Also, I was thinking about the fight and I realized that we forgot to take into account the 4 hexes I'd have to go down to dropkick Skunk, and the 12 hexes I moves in the turn before the dropkick... with the extra 8K of damg from this he would lose his arm and his shield, what would make it impossible to him to block that second Lance attack (5K to his Torso, 5K and 4SP remaining).

But the rest would have ended up the same, as his Glaive destroyed my weapon and would have killed me anyway, as I wouldn't go for his flamethower...

I maybe I would, but its too late now anyway.

I'm not asking to change the result of the fight, but having the Jager lose his arm and part of his torso in only one attack would be the perfect trigger for his PTSD-induced beserker state, don't you guys agree?
>>
>>1384243
Don't think they count the hexes you moved from the last turn for the kick BR. Seems more velocity over total distance, which makes sense because a old man spending 30 minutes walking to a building and then nudging it with his foot would not cause it to explode.
>>
>>1384243
>and the 12 hexes I moves in the turn before the dropkick

>"with +1K for every 2 hexes the attacker has traveled that action."
Ram description, pages 99 and 100 of the Corebook.
>"Performed exactly as a ram, but the attacker takes no damage."
Dropkick description, page 100.

If you did forget 4 hexes of vertical movement, that would have only added 2K damage, not even enough for you to have destroyed his arm if he had parried both lance attacks instead of just 1.
>>
>>1384243
Couldn't I still have parried with my not beam naginata even if I did lose my shield arm?
>>
>>1384319
Yes you have, I realized that like 5 min ago.

>>1384292

>>
>>1384396
Oh yeah, he has 5 SP armor. I thought he had 4 for a minute there.
>>
>>1384405
Well... And then the Heat Lance would cause more -1SP to his shield, -1SP to his armor and -1K to his arm.

So ends up with 4Kills in his arm and 3SP when the battle reaches its end.

plz not another sniper duel, I'd like to show off the regular CROWE at some point.

speaking of, rereading the Libra x Wraith fight, I think Wong mistook the Sniper Rifle the Libra uses as another gun. Fluff wise, the 'sniper rifle' is just a barrel extension added onto the base CROWE. The installation of which requires the ESTER Bayonet to be taken off, and the Multi-feed system to be put offline.

This is why it's called the F.A.I.Z Longbarrel Custom, because it's just a custom longbarrel added to the FAIZ (The shooty bit of the CROWE).
>>
>>1385078

Unless I'm misunderstanding the rules for Metaform, isn't it impossible for the Sagister to melee under gravity?

If I'm wrong though, that wouldn't be a fight. It would be over as soon as the Sagister got close, no question.

I'm really kicking myself for making the Blitz like I did, none of these fights are going to be entertaining at all. Either the opponent tries to cheese the Blitz to death, it gets killed in a single round of being melee'd or the other person doesn't stand much of a chance. I probably should've paid attention to the other contestants when I was making it.
>>
>>1385106
The Libra is chock-full of references.

Try and catch them all!
>>
>>1385118

Thats no reference, thats a D
>>
>>1385111
It would just need to take an action to go from legs to wings right? Why wouldnt it be able to fight in gravity?
>>
>>1385111
It would be able to kick, but those kicks are possible only in leg form.
>>
>>1385111
Well you made a great mech for the Kestrels.
>>
>>1385131
>>1385133
It moves next to its target, one action.

It changes its wings to leg form, another action.

The other mech moves two tiles away (since it only has 50 meters of ground MA.)

The Sagister is unable to melee attack.

I may be wrong about it needing an action to change its leg form. I know he took off efficient transformation, but I don't know if Metaform transformations need that.
>>
>>1385152
I guess I should say, it can melee attack, but only a target that can't move more than 50 meters with 2 actions.
>>
>>1385152
>>1385164
He has enough thrusters to move 500m a turn without the wings or avian bonus.
>>
>>1385152
It can still move it's standard half Ma with thrusters. Remember, it's still got 10 MA without avian bonus and wings. It's kicks can still do hefty damage from so close a range.
>>
>>1385169
>>1385171
I thought he could only fly when he had wings, and that's why he got them.

Don't tell me a Cassowary shaped robot can fly without wings, but not a tank. The humanoid mechs are already silly enough.
>>
>>1384908
which is why I said this
>>1383299
though in my defense I just answered questions he asked.
>>
>>1385182
Thrusters would still allow it to move 5 MA a action even if it's not flight. You also got a flying tank yourself using something you normally wouldn't that other people complained about.
>>
>>1385182
He just needs wings to get the free MA from being avian.
Beast mechs arent supposed to be able to fly at all which is even sillier
>>
>>1385197
I'm not flying, I'm hovering by using thruster's ability to act as a GES. The Blitz can't fly without wings like humanoids or, apparently, avians can.
>>
>>1384951
I wouldn't mind any fight at all. Though I want a fight to showcase the Beam Magnum I built and a melee showdown with Libra

You can gain supplies and weapons from salvage fields, can salvage entire derelict ships (which include ships you can salvage but choose not to, they stay around and you can come back for them), you can survey planets and gain money and resources from it and they overhauled fighters so you equip them to carriers and they come out of the carriers at the beginning of a fight, instead of just flying around on their own. You also have an ability that lets you travel at about 3 times the speed you normally do. Basically the game isn't isolated pockets of battles and visiting sations

If you only played years ago, other features they've added in other updates is procedurally generated missions, AI officers that can pilot your ships and level up, you can gain money by trading now instead of just blowing up ships, and there are multiple solar systems to explore now beyond the one you were stuck in who knows how many updates ago. I don't know how long all of those have been in the game. It's pretty much a whole new game compared to what it was.

Huh, wonder what a Palomino II's stats are. Also, the fact it's a sniper variant worries me, too, since it could just kite me to death.

Still trying to make a not-Arbalest, but yeah, trying to figure out how to make a not-Lambda Driver is getting to be the big roadblock. Someone thought about making it an energy pool I would attach to the torso, but aside from a no-turn reactive shield, I dunno what else to add in said energy pool.

And even then, I dunno if that's the way to go. I think the second closest thing would be a turbocharger with some mechanical changes.

And if I wanted to make it as accurate as possible, it'd be really easy to knock out with Striker servos as my first try. If I wanted to go the anime route, it'd be probably using Heavy Striker servos.

Also, brother is asking what to equip if he wants to detach servos for other servos, like Gundam AGE-1 switching its normal arms for Titus arms. I'm guessing it's a Quick Change Module equipped on the Arm Servos.

What about something like this?

Pharcyde vs BKV (Destined Duel)
Chimera vs Lightning (Aces High Battle)
Libra vs Buddy (More hot generalist on generalist action)
Blitz vs Dutchman (Challenge)
M-Sagister vs No Count (???)

Fighting the Chimera seems like a nice challenge.

I, personally, would rather not watch Backstab Fishing 2: Electric Boogaloo. It was uninteresting enough the first time. At least the Blitz being pinged to death by the Libra or smashed by the Chocobo would be different. I hope Wong thinks the same.

Also
>(Challenge)
Yeah, the Blitz won a straight fight and totally didn't win due to that lucky headshot. That fight will totally be a challenge.

Also, Dutch and BR, I've been looking through the challenger pastebin again. I'm pretty sure the version of the Dutchman on it isn't up to date because the Cracker grenades still have AP.

My problem is that I want the fight to be interesting, that's why I don't like the cheesey strats a lot of the other competitors would fight the Blitz with, or that the Blitz would basically just lose when the Lighting or Sagister got close enough. So the "speed sniper" would be just like the Libra fight, and if I recall the Amos Pumpkinseed II loadout right, it would have poor chances like the Buddy.

Regarding the Sagisters design, regular beast mechs aren't allowed to fly at all in any shape or form for some stupid reason, if you want a flying animal mech it has to technically be "avian" form, the only reason I gave the Sagister the ability to have wings via metaforms was so I wouldn't feel bad about classifying it as avian form. I can't find any requirement for "avian" mechs to actually have wings so I had originally planned to just use all the CP that went into the metaform for beefier talons or guns.

As written a Lambda driver is pretty much a biocore, i.e. a device that draws power from pilot emotion to do pretty much anything as determined by the narrator/GM.

>>1385182
Well, a tank shouldn't be able to fly at all since it is normally only allowed GES

>>1385213
The design uses thrusters at all, which is disallowed by the rules, but okayed by Wong as a special exception. Yes, thrusters are more expensive than GES but they also, y'know, *work* in space where Space Jam and like 90% of MSPQ takes place, and without them it would simply not be possible to use a tank there at all in the first place.

A Lambda Driver is basically a localised reality warping device that is fuelled by the pilot's will and can be used to do things like project a barrier that protects them from harm, enhance the destructive power of attacks, perform attacks of its own or allow an enormous mech to stand under its own weight. It tends to generate a lot of waste heat, and its performance is spotty and inconsistent unless the pilot is on a cocktail of drugs that puts them in the right mental state (which makes it more reliable, if incapable of reaching the same peaks).

>>1385444
Instead of a reactive shield you might consider an attack factor beam shield (basically a beam active shield), since it would be more in line with the 'only works when you're aware of it' aspect of Lambda Driver barriers.

>>1386376
You don't even really need to refluff it, the mechanics are pretty much up to GM interpretation, you could easily say it gives you access to an energy pool if you want. A biocore isn't even necessarily biological, all it denotes is that human life force/will/FIGHTING SPIRIT is the power source. Gurren Lagann is an off the cuff example of a biocore powered mech.
>>
>>1386935
Huh, never thought about using beam shields like that.

Thanks for the help, now I have an idea of how to go about it.
>>
>>1386236
The creators of Mekton wanted the DM to change whatever they want, so the base rules don't really matter that much in my opinion, just what Wong wants. All I'm taking about is the aerodynamics.

I mean, how can a human shaped or bird shaped robot fly without wings, but a tank can't? It's more than twice as long as Medium Strikers are tall and nearly so compared to Heavy Strikers, it surely has the surface area needed if that's all other mechs require. That's also why I think it's silly they can't have thrusters.

Actually, I've reached an epiphany. In Mekton's setting, standard grunt mechs cost even more than what elite guys in MSPQ have (~160 - 180 CP, and only because their costs are kept down by 8K being the biggest weapon any of them have) and all of their frames weigh more than 45 tons, while the maximum weight of a basic mega heavy tank frame is 27 tons, meaning it's a lot cheaper.

I think what they did is intentionally make them less useful than any other form you could choose (excluding cycles and boats and shit because they're forms you would either take as a joke or would only be picked in a really weird setting.)

A tank would have about the same MV as a humanoid mech (give or take 1 or 2) but they would be a lot cheaper, and only shitters not fit to even be grunts would be in them, so they'd do fuck all.

It's like what they outlined to do with ships - only the hero and villain ships are important, all the others are there to blow up. Ace humanoid, animal, plane, or hybrid form mechs are the hero ship, cheap mechs with these forms are the scenery ships meant to just blow up, and tank forms are the poor saps meant to die in the ships.

There's no reason you can't make a space tank (you'd just be taking a humanoid mech's torso and making it bigger) like you can't make a space submarine, helicopter or bicycle - they just didn't want players to.
>>
>>1387658
There are a lot of questionable decisions with the non humanoid forms, like beasts not being able to fly at all or jets being less maneuverable than humanoids.
>>
>>1387658
I believe it's a matter of function and semantics. A tank is a no more a space weapon than a helicopter or a submarine, and the classifications exist to create machines in each of those categories. If you take a brick of armour, put thrusters on it and put it in space then what you have isn't really a tank, if you're going to call it anything it's a mobile armour.
>>
>>1388043
Cant have a 360 degree turret without being a tank though which is stupid on a robot.
>>
>>1388057
Not that big of a loss, the turret's not all that useful. It never came into play in the Blitz's match and in a real battle there would be other mechs around to keep mechs from trying to play ring around the rosie with it.
>>
>>1388057
The core rules didn't even have specific tank forms and still had a tank design with a head turret. Since there's no reason why not it seems like something reasonable to just ask the GM to allow, it would certainly be more sensible than taking what (now that I look at the book) is explicitly supposed to be a ground only weapon to the point of not being able to go above 1 hex even if it does have gravitics.

>>1387724
>jets being less maneuverable than humanoids
Nah, the logic in this one is easy enough to follow. Jets can move very fast, but not turn on a dime (to the point of having to move forward while changing facings), so lower MV.
>>
>>1388129
But what about VTOL jets or things like the eurofighter which they made intentionally unstable to make it more maneuverable? I think they just went all over the place with the transformations and that most of them dont give you enough back for what they cost or what they limit.
>>
>>1388157
You can buy a VTOL package for jets. I'd add a thing about jets cutting their flight MA to 1/4th in exchange for a reduced MV Penalty when in VTOL mode.
>>
>>1388157
>But what about VTOL jets
There is literally a VTOL function in the transformable options.

>things like the eurofighter which they made intentionally unstable to make it more maneuverable
Better base MV through weight efficiency/verniers.

The game is written so that you can fluff a lot of its components how you want, verniers can represent actual verniers, or canards, or magnetic coating or whatever the fuck, really.

I think they just went all over the place with the transformations and that most of them dont give you enough back for what they cost or what they limit.
Well, many of them are there either for classic mecha flavour simply so you can have them if you want to, or to make units with something non-humanoid as the only form. As for actual transforming units, its a situational thing where you make a trade-off of MV and maybe the use of some servos for some other perk.

For example, jet form gives double speed, so that's pretty useful to get in or out of a situation quickly, the nautical forms confer built in environment protection/sensors/removal of movement penalties/propulsion for their native environment, helicopters grant guaranteed flight ability regardless of propulsion etc.
>>
>>1388129
>it would certainly be more sensible than taking what (now that I look at the book) is explicitly supposed to be a ground only weapon to the point of not being able to go above 1 hex even if it does have gravitics
Gravitics can't lift a tank more than 1 Hex? I thought it was basically more expensive thrusters.

>>1388157
>dont give you enough back for what they cost
Tank form certainly does, the extra 2 SP you get is incredibly useful. I had thought at one point about making a loadout with reduced armor SP and comparatively weak weapons but with beta or gamma armor. I would be able to buy Medium Weight Gamma Armor for 12 CP a servo, but with 8 SP armor.
>>
>>1388173
See that would be sensible.
>>1388182
VTOL just lets you stop though, it doesnt do anything to the penalty. Also the costs for transformations are crazy when you think of how common it is with mechs.
>>
>>1388187
>Gravitics can't lift a tank more than 1 Hex? I thought it was basically more expensive thrusters.
Yes and no. For most purposes gravitics work like thrusters, except they confer flight regardless of MA instead of only at 8 MA or more. For tanks however, they're intended as an alternative to GES to make hovertanks (for practical purposes these let it descend with no damage and I guess you could also use it o break the 20MA speed limit on GES and make supersonic tanks if you were really determined to).

>Tank form mecha equipped with gravitics may not fly more than one hex level above the ground (they essentially act as gravitiv ground effect systems). They may, however, use such systems to fall so as to take no damage.

>the extra 2 SP you get is incredibly useful
It is at Space Jam tier because powerful armour piercing weapons eat significantly into a normal unit's budget at 140CP.
>>
>>1388206
>>1388173
Or you could just count it as a hybrid form, which accomplishes the same thing for a normal jet (given its lack of limbs). Again, the system allows for it to be fluffed in such a manor.
>>
>>1388226
A 8K Quick, AP weapon would cost 16 CP and be able to pretty easily handle the Blitz. It 3 shots the turret and the mech using it would almost certainly have a lower MV. You could even go to a 7K weapon and that would still only need 4 hits. You could also get a 10K AP weapon for 10 CP and that 2 shots the head if you would prefer less rolls and want that 6 CP for something else.

I mean, the Valkyrie was missing its head and had an EMW and it was still an incredibly close fight. The armor's good, but not as good as some people seem to think.
>>
>>1388226
>>1388260
Actually, I forgot about arm bonuses. The weapons could be even cheaper.
>>
>>1388246
They still take a penalty and arent as fast.
>>
>>1388260
The Valkyrie was chipping away at the Blitz for ages before it could even dent its actual HP (of which it had a lot because of its mega size servos), meanwhile the Blitz only had to get lucky once (and did). The Valkyrie lasted as long as it did because it had Dutch at the helm and he made a heroic effort using every dirty trick he knew to give himself the upper hand, and in the end it wasn't enough. And this after all the drama over how unfair the matchup was on the Blitz. You can say they armour isn't as good as people think, but the actual results don't really bear those claims out.

I agree that Mega Armour isn't especially tough and a heavy enough weapon can pierce it, and I agree that having only two servos is a disadvantage against that kind of opponent.

But while mega everything just doesn't get any better at higher point costs it really does put it above the competition at a low budget like that. I'm sure people have been over this before, but it's far tougher and possess more powerful weapons and defences as well as boosters to match or exceed mobility despite having comparable weight and MV because ever other unit is burdened with limbs, being giant robots and all. As point costs go up the limitations of the frame become more and more apparent, but there's a sweet spot down at low costs where much of their budget goes into being humanoid

It just feels munchkinly, unsporting and thus unfun to me roll up to a mech fight in a mathematically optimal brick with more armour, firepower and speed than most of them could ever hope to match. I'm sorry.

>>1388272
Well what do you even want then? A superfighter that can do sick kickflips and outmanoeuvre everything? Different forms have advantages and disadvantages, what exactly is the issue with that? That it's not realistic enough? This is a game where you can make robot with rocket fists that can itself turn into a giant rocket fist.
>>

Lightning vs No Count
Dutchman vs Chimera
Libra vs Buddy
M-Sagister vs Blitz
>>
>>1388310
I wouldn't mind fighting the Chimer. If I recall, Maxwell seems to be retired and the understanding sort so this could lead to some interesting Scavvie stuff. Sides, the guy has an orphanage, he probably has stuff for the twins to ease the father's burden.
>>
Transformations are stupidly overpriced and arne't worth the cost.

At least, the Jet transformation is.
>>
>>1388306
The disadvantages are worse then the advantages. 2 sp is neat but you cant fly and you take a hit to maneuverability. Double MA is great for getting around but you also take a hit to maneuverability and effectively have to spend an action to avoid going into free fall every turn and for transformations its probably cheaper to just give yourself more thrusters. Beast mode makes you great at melee but you cant fly at all ever, while avian is equally great at melee but gets flight for free. Just doesnt seem well planed especially when MV is such an important stat.

As for the blitz only having two servos means that anytime you get hit you get hit somewhere absolutely necessary while a humanoid might lose a leg or a head or something. Plus seeing as these are things that are going to be fighting our wars, which is something people seem to forget, being strong is a good thing. We want something that can punch above its weight because its going to have to.
>>
>>1388306
>It just feels munchkinly, unsporting and thus unfun to me roll up to a mech fight in a mathematically optimal brick with more armour, firepower and speed than most of them could ever hope to match. I'm sorry.
First of all, I only made a tank because everyone else made humanoid mechs and it got very banal to me. I didn't know some people seem to think tank form is OP. That's just too bad for you.

Second, the balancing force is that humanoid mechs have much more space than a tank.

A full Medium Striker mech would have 21 more spaces than a Mega Heavy Tank. 1 for housing sensors in its Head, 10 from being able to have a handheld weapon, and 10 from its legs being almost solely dedicated to housing thrusters.

A Heavy Striker has 29 more spaces, 14 from handheld, 1 for its sensors and 14 for its thrusters. The Blitz just can't have all the weapons a humanoid mech can for the cost they do - it's impossible to buy enough space efficiency to be able to keep up.

>heroic effort using every dirty trick he knew
Bit of a contradiction, don't you think :^)
>>
>>1388422
The issue is, all those problems mean little in space where the majority of our fighting would be. With the use of thrusters, the main issue tanks or beasts would have, 3D movement, is no longer an issue.
However, while the Blitz is stronger, it's also something you do not want to strictly rely on. It's a very singular focused machine, and something that can bind it, or simply lay down beam chaff takes out a good portion of it's power. It requires good positioning for good firing angles, otherwise you get Jesus scenarios, melee support against groups of smaller machines, and something with ASP because it can't detect stealth. It's a good machine for area defense, maybe some pursuit, but it's a machine that loses effectiveness when it cannot use that primary gun. In a open battle field where beam chaff is likely going to become a more prominent terrain feature, it paints a rather big target on itself.
>>1388459
Weapon mounts. 2 CP and spaces for 22 extra spaces and you can can equip two on the torso. Since they can also use systems, one can theoretically put thrusters there too.
>>
>>1388488
>Weapon mounts. 2 CP and spaces for 22 extra spaces and you can can equip two on the torso. Since they can also use systems, one can theoretically put thrusters there too.
Valkyrieanon already pointed that out, but I don't see why a QM wouldn't disallow that. Its also not like the Blitz is exploiting weapon mounts.

I guess it's also a good thing that the Blitz has a sniper load out (even if it shoots at +10 or whatever its bonus is.) Still kicking myself over the scattershot ammo though. Should've read the description.
>>
For shits and giggles, I tried making an all purpose beam weapon for grunts. Unfortunately, it ended up being a bit more expensive than I would like.

All Purpose Beam Rifle - 30.97 CP, 1 ton, 5 spaces.
short range - Range 400m, WA +1, 4k, BV 3, Infinite ammo
Long range - BASE range 500m (max 5000m), WA +1 (-1 from Long Range), 6k, Long Range, Infinite ammo
>>
>>1388488
>>1388459

Most of the tourney has taken place on a singular flat surface, so the lack of vertical maneuvering for the Blitz hasn't been an issue.

That said, if the Blitz can fly, that's bullshit and invalidates one of the disadvantages of being a tank. If you wanted to be a giant flying Mobile Armor, you should have made a Corvette and taken VTOL.

One idea I had for the non tourney Range model is the Garron Head artillery cannon.
7 kills, Range 16, 0 WA, 13.5 CP for 4 spaces(so the 5th is taken with ammo). It would only have clips of 9, but it could be loaded with AP, or Blast 4 shells. Even with indirect fire from max range of 256 MA away, that Blast 4 will still hit what it was aimed at. AP shots could also take off limbs as well. 3.78 CP for 1 clip of 9 AP rounds, and 11.34 for 9 Blast 4 rounds.

Not really. You were the Goliath in that scenario and he was the clear underdog who had to use skill and cunning to stand a chance. Everybody loves the underdog.
>>
>>1388584
Anyways, ignoring your mathematical incompetence, your actual costs should be:

12 CP for short range (6 * 2)
12 CP for long (9 * 1.33)

18 spaces after mating

6 CP for Space Efficiency.

That said, giving every unit both weapons seems really inefficient.
>>
Idea: If an Attack does double the Damage a Physical Armor or Shield is supposed to protect against, the SP ablates twice.

Example: 10 SP Shield takes a 20K hit. Instead of ablating to 9 SP, it ablates to 8.

Thoughts? Is there some way it can get really unbalanced?
>>
>>1389854
Why would you need it when so much damage is getting through anyway?
>>
>>1389869
Unless he was trying to make ablative surge reactive shields, that would be unnecessary
>>
>>1389869
>>1389854

Mathwise:

Medium Striker Arm (5 Kills) protected by Medium Striker Armor (4 SP) carrying a Medium Striker Shield (8 SP) is hit by a 16K Attack.

Shield ablates to 6 SP, lets 8K of the attack through.

Armor ablates to 2 SP, lets 4K of the attack through.

Arm is reduced to 1 Kill.

Functionally, there's no mechanical difference until it gets hit again. Instead of requiring a 11K attack to break through a 7 SP shield and 3 SP armor, you would only need a 9K attack to break through a 6 SP shield and 2 SP armor.

Technically, it makes intact Armor and Shields more vulnerable to high damage weapons and damaged armor and Shields more vulnerable to avaerage damage weapons. From a versimilitude perspective, it's kinda neat but It's additional bookkeeping.
>>
>>1389957
I wouldn't do it. Mechs are already fragile enough for the most part.
>>
>>1389957
>>1389869
>>1389933

It also makes armor less than 3 SP entirely worthless instead of just practically worthless.
>>
>>1389732
