It is the 41st Century, space shuttles that can bend the reality of space and time are no longer a science-fiction dream but reality. However, life on the Last Frontier is threatened.

The United Intergalatic Senate has lost control of their citizens, capitalism and vigilante justice controlled The Last Frontier for thousands of years until three mega-corporations struggle for economic and total control. The Galactic Senate, however, directly profits from the civil war between the three factions.

The Solarflare Republic.

The Daemon Regime.

Remulus United.

These corporations now ceased fire, however, tensions are high. We have entered the 100 Year Cold War.

Daemon Regime has aims to create the perfect super soldier. The closet they have so far is a slave military name Daemons. Daemons, named after the corporation they work for, are slaves made from a variety of different races captured by unknown patrons of the corporation. Daemons are usually the offspring of Prisoners of War but also can be volunteered (indentured) into the regime. They're bred from birth to be obedient, loyal, and deadly. They are kept in line with a Neuron Chip, a generic term for the thousands of microscopic machinery floating in the brain of a Daemon. This Neuron Chip controls both the reward and pain sections of the brain. If a Daemon steps out of line, the Neuron Chip can terminate the Daemon indiscriminately.

Daemons, when traveling through time and space, are kept in Hydro-Hallucinstasis Pods. It simulates a real, normal life in the twenty-first century. Daemons long for a life of freedom, but they know nothing of the real life outside of combat.

The Echelon, a Daemon Carrier Ship, has gone radio silent. A system failure has caused the ship to stop mid-space, life support for the entire ship is failing.

Daemon 1995, after meeting T̵h̵e̸ ̴W̵I̸T̴N̵E̵S̵S̵ in the Judicium Room, 1995 awakens fully restored and healed. Now, with the help of a doctor named 1241, 1995 fully intends on evacuating the ship - if she can find escape pods - all the while keeping her new sets of eyes in check.

I don't have the storage space to save all these panels and thus I have to archive what I have done before I cull the panels on my computer. I apologize if it's a problem.

"1995, I'm not full of answers," 1241 answers dryly. "I only know that the ship is now a hellish metal cocoon and we're drifting in space to who knows where."

They exit the Bloodbath Room into a corridor that offers two hatchways to go.

One of them is a automatic fiber glass door, bloody meat paste plasters the deck and the bulkheads are littered with bullet wholes and viscera.

The other is a ladder into a dimly lit room.

It's not a problem per se; it just might annoy some people if they see multiple threads made in short succession by one author.

1995 scoffed mentally. "Right, okay,"

>>1366170
It's merely bullet shell casings. The janitorial 'office' is locked. 1241 has never seen this kind of lock before - it's made of metal, brass maybe, and there's a jagged hole in the middle.

"Never seen doorknob before?"

"No, never understood how those janitors opened it either."

>Head into admin.

There was, yet, another hallway. This one was clear of anything interesting, just bullet holes and more blood.

"...say, 1995?" 1241 asked, as they walked down the hallway.

"Hm?"

"While you were in the Hydro-Hallucinstasis Pod, what did you do?" 1241 inquired. "During the simulation, I mean."

"Oh," 1995 blinked in surprise. Nobody has really asked her before. "I was a fireman; I was the firefighter in the squad that had to chop down the doors with the fireaxe."

"A firefighter?" 1241 repeated. "Sounds pretty dangerous."

"It was, for a while," 1995 answered. "I just had to get used to thinking quickly and clearly under pressure."

"Did your squadmates ever give each other nicknames?" 1241 jokingly asked.

"Yep, we had names like 'Crunch' for the captain, we had 'Ruby' for this one bunny who had a red stone on her forehead (said it was for religion or something, whatever that is), there was also Newby for the rookie we had, Our driver's name was Richie Flassclock... I bet you know what name we gave him, and we had 'Dogg', we had 'Cinderella', and we had 'Stonewall'!"

"What was yours?"

"Hmm?"

"You surely had a nickname, luv, don't keep that secret from me!"

"Oh, uh, two actually," 1995 blinked. "Bastet and Axecutor. Those bastards knew I hated puns."

"Bastet?" 1241 blinked. "The hell does that mean?"

"Yep, exactly," 1995 answered. "Never really questioned it."

"Before becoming a doctor or before being indentured into the Echleon like the rest of my family?" 1241 repeated before clearing his throat and continuing. "I never really know what I did or was before becoming a doctor. I just floated between really low wage jobs while studying medicine. Before I became indentured, after graduating med-school when I was 22, I was midwife for two years."

"Went from delivering babies to pulling bullets out of people," Bastet (1995) observed.

"Earth is... well, I don't know how to explain it. It's the home to the Intergalactic Senate, as you know, and thus is very well off with low poverty rates. There's a lot of corruption, but on the other hand, and the police are brutal and incorruptible. They're exactly like Daemons and I have a sneaking suspicion that the Senate hired DaemonRegime to enforce laws and be private-public security," 1241 says. "Cars and other motorized vehicles are still around, but they're more for show rather than travel. The best way to travel is by Quantum Leaping, a sort a FTL system that breaks you down on a molecular level and reassembles you in the nearest receiving station. I don't know how to explain it to you without the words, 'normal', in it."

"And how does it compare to the 21st Century?"

"I never really spent much time in the pod," That answers one question Bastet had for 1241. "But whenever I did, I noticed that everything was... not as happy as it was in real life - or rather the present."

"Meaning?"

"Nobody really got along with each other, every little thing anyone in the media's eyes was a controversy, the news playing only death and destruction, political unrest, people were just angry and wanted to blame other people," 1241 says.

>>1366341
"Are you hitting on me?"

"Wha- no," Bastet quickly reworded her words. "What I think is, this is not the first time we've met and this is not the first time this has happened. I've got a sneaking suspicion that this has happened before... but I can't quite place it. You get that feeling?"

"Whenever I see you, I feel I've seen you in something like a dream," 1241 admitted. "As far as the relationship bit goes, that's news to me."

"Bas'!" 1241 cried out. "What do we do? The button's gone!"

Bastet recalled her training and uttered these words. "Initiating STRIFE protocols."

>What is[are] STRIFE PROTOCOLS?
A last resort measure for Combat Models to engage in physical close quarters combat.

Combat Daemons that has been disarmed has been encouraged highly to avoid combat with an enemy for the sake of ensured survival. In the case that avoidance is impossible and struggle for survival is the only option, a Daemon will fight for their life until the enemy is neutralized or until an opportunity to escape is present.

Rules of engagement when STRIFE Protocols are simple: Survive by any means necessary.

>How STRIFE Protocols works:
Sorta like a vidya game RPG, you are given a menu. With these menus, you can use either >BASH the enemy, use a >SKILL to get an advantage over the adversary in exchange of CP, deploy an >ITEM to recover HP or CP, or save your skin and >ABSCOND from the battle.

A disclaimer: A STRIFE will NOT happen all the time in this quest, because mostly the action of fighting them will result in an untimely death. The command >STRIFE may be given at leisure in any situation, however, STRIFE will be forced when necessary. (Such as the current situation)

Terms:
HP=Health Points
CP=Cognitive Process (acts as 'mana')

Actions such as >BASH, and >ABSCOND requires a dice roll.

dice + 2d6 for >BASH.

dice + xd2 for >ABSCOND
x=the amount of party members

At any moment, you may view your party's status by issuing the command >STATUS [NAME].

>Commence

>Is it possible to keep analyzing on enemies or does it only give intel the first time?
Bastet will automatically use -Feline Eyes at the start of any STRIFE.
Can also be used outside of a STRIFE using the command: >Feline Eyes. Bastet will promptly remove the bandages on her eyes and use her second set of eyes to see things that exist beyond the plane of reality.

>If these are Impure we're fighting, does that mean 1241 can become infected like them, or is this different?
This is not different at all, 1241 has the risk of becoming one of them and anyway to avoid it is simply unknown to the two of them.

1241 has a one in three chance to become a mindless (or primitive) husk - like Steve, rot while he slowly turns to red, meaty, slushy paste like that the duo has stepped in on multiple occasions - or become an Infected, like Bastet. An infected can become an Impure - irreversibly corrupted to the point that the infected host has completely molded into a fleshy monster with the need to murder indiscriminately and feast. The reasons for this corruption has yet to be explained.

no worries, combat is only a small part of the quest

Some of the Impures are not attacking, as if waiting for orders.

IMPURE FELINE
>Standby

IMPURE SMOKING REPTILE
>Standby

IMPURE SALAMANDER
>BASH
!
Missed Bastet by an inch!

IMPURE AMALGAMATE
>Skipped

"It seems that the strange-looking one is probably it's leader, if we focus on 'em, they'll probably give up!" 1241 observes.

"You realize they ALL look strange?" Bastet replied dryly.

"You know what I meant," 1241 tapped his foot impatiently.

Bastet (1995):
![Conflagration]!
On the ground, conveniently, there is a lighter and a can of hairspray. 1+1 = everything is on fire now.

"They're recoiling now! Fire seems to be their weak point!" 1241 observed.

-

IMPURE FELINE has been hit!

IMPURE SMOKING REPTILE has been hit!

IMPURE SALAMANDER has been hit!
SUFFERING FROM "BURN"

1241 has been hit by friendly fire!
"Watch it!"
-->76/100 HP

Bastet has been hit
"Check your fire!"
-->70/100

1241:
-Abasia on [IMPURE AMALGAMATE]

IMPURE AMALGAMATE has been stunned!

With all enemies stunned, you can now preform an ALL-OUT ATTACK.

"This is our chance to hit them with everything we got!" 1241 declares

>All-Out Attack?

As if there's any other option.

Why are you so lazy with the drawings? The previous quest was way better drawn!

Yes. We'd probably get swarmed if we let them all attack.

>Why are you so lazy with the drawings? The previous quest was way better drawn!
I think it's so he can pump updates out faster, whenever he does. Personally, I don't mind it so long as he keeps the quest active.

But this board is way slower than TG! Threads stay for days! Sometimes over a week! There is no need to rush.

I think he already knew those were the symptoms of infection.

sorry for absence. ASVAB Test for when i get that damn draft letter for ww3. can't wait to shoot up some commie bastards.

>>1370734
he's not very concerned at the moment about a second set of eyes when something or someone is turning the entire ship crew into meaty paste. once he sees someone turn into literal meat patte, (or some mindless husks tearing apart your best friend) a second set of eyes on some daemon he's never met before is probably the least of his worries.

at the same time, we only just MET bunne. whose to say... nevermind.

>>1371259
;)

>>1371307
as said, i would've appreciated you reading the quest but i can throw you up to speed real fast.

The 'infection' is causing body amalgamations among those infected with the virulent agent. how or why hasn't been explained yet. without giving spoilers about the eyes, the best thing i can tell you is that we currently think that the infection has amalgamated Bastet. We have yet to see the power of these new eyes - because they are stapled shut and bandaged.

so yessir, one's bandaged and the other is 'normal'

whatever that means.

>>1368788
right, explanation time, i changed the art style to work more on more panels per action. if i went back to the old artstyle, which was a sketchy fucking mess, it would have taken this quest too fucking long to be relevant.

i could go back to the old artstyle just fine, but that would mean i have to remake a hell of a lot of panels again just to fit the quality match needed.

remember that in the old thread i suffered putting out consistent panels? whatever the reason, i just wasn't getting it done. quality be damned, i'm not making a graphic novel in the span of a few seconds sand you guys seem to be getting the idea of "shit's fucked yo" with the current pixelated lazy artstyle.

now, if a majority wants me to revert to a more refined artstyle - i have no qualms about it - but there are drawbacks to it.

again, i'm sorry about the absence. quest is not kill, resuming in a few minutes.
