You are not Jadyk of the Wormstar. You are Nekris of the Predator Order, first of your kind and Arc-Thief. Reconstructed from the chitin of a Pirate Captain you have proven your worth many times over in service of the Armada. Your eyes have beheld wonders that no other member of the Armada has witnessed, treading on alien worlds and searching for the treasures of the galaxy to bring before your creator.

Powerful storms roiled beneath you as you stood on the deck of a netu clan vessel looking down at the gas giant you floated over. Captain Vorlam was standing next to you with her helm unsealed, the upper atmosphere chilled but breathable to the netu. You wondered if she suspected your origin as a Captain much like her, your own bodyplan a reflection of Kroturs, but she hadn't mentioned it. Instead the netu spoke animatedly about the recent sightings of the Zaeen creatures within the system.

"What I figure is something in their hide passively blocks scanning, maybe evolved to shield from cosmic radiation?" the Captain was talking mostly to herself as her ship drifted and searched the storms below for the targets of their hunt, "Either way, means we gotta rely on good ol' eyesight or sonar if they're here in an atmosphere but the storms aren't much help with either of those methods."

"What about bait?" You ask and the netu gives a laugh.

"One of the first rules of hunting, of course. Don't worry, we got some bait we'll deploy once we confirm which of these damned giants they're hiding in," she said while motioning to the horizon where stormbanks the size of continents loomed.

Pirate shuttles and Coffins patrolled as the rest of the fleet waited in orbit above, your own boarding cruiser bristling with harpoon mounts drifting nearby to the Pirate vessel. You gazed down into the storms and leaned against a railing, your supernaturally keen gaze looking down into the churning darkness below. Vorlam continued to theorize about the Zaeen, your time traveling with the netu leading to discover that she considered herself something of a naturalist and adventurer, wanting to see and discover as many lifeforms as she could in her life.

You were almost ignoring her rambling when kilometers below you think you saw movement as something large twists through a cloudbank. Four eyes twitch and search through the clouds and a moment later you saw another presence disturbing the natural flow of the clouds.

Vorlam seemed to notice your sudden intensity and she gazes down into the storm next to you, "What do you see?"

"Our prey," you say with finality as a shadow the size of a frigate and a flash of armored plates briefly flash through a break in the clouds below. A moment later as shuttles and Coffins swoop in, the presences descend deeper into the storms past the range of the smaller craft.

With a signal to the ships above and returning to your own vessel the hunt begins.

Completed Research:
>Arc Drive: Nekris and Eiton had long intended to develop a proper FTL engine utilizing the Arc that did not rely on an Arc user to generate a Storm Gate. By using the knowledge gained from kosda and epikor technicians and engineers along with the captured Ahkam serpents the Think Tanks assigned to the project have made a breakthrough.

>Advanced Quasiphasic Materials: The development of the Disruptor Pods has lead to the final breakthrough needed for the rest of the Think Tanks Quasiphasic research projects.

>Quasiphasic Weaponry: The idea of weaponizing quasiphasic technology was among the first threads the Think Tanks proposed and believe they have developed several satisfactory weapons for the Armada.

Minor Development: Solar Farming
>While the Think Tanks are still recovering from the disaster that recently befell the Solar Technology projects they were able to recover and recreate one of their near completed projects and finalize it. Noticing the Armadas disparity in biomass production compared to its mining potential the Think Tanks fast-tracked the project.

Research Event:
>Necrotic Drive accident: In an accident with some eerie familiarity a corvette equipped with a prototype necrotic powered engine has disappeared during a routine test. The ship had been stationed on an asteroid in the Bastion system when a power surge during a test of the necrotic field meant to decay space-time around it to allow for FTL travel caused the ship and a portion of the ground beneath it to disappear in a green flash of lightning leaving behind a glassed crater. The Think Tanks are confident they know the cause of the malfunction and move to refine the engine. They are also glad that this time no Disciple or unique Reconstructed heroes were on board.

Unlocked:
>Arc Drive: Using a powerful Arc reactor a starship is able to energize it's hull with a build-up of Arc energy. This allows the craft to accelerate past the lightspeed barrier only if they manage to find phantasmal leylines of ambient Arc energy that connects star systems. A capital ship or larger is able to energize smaller ships to follow in its wake allowing sub-light or slower starships to match their speed.

>Arc Swarmer: By launching a fighter sized drone equipped with Arc Condensers out among the rest of the common Swarmer drones they can travel further from the host ship for a multitude of uses. This includes attacking ships that are at a further distance as the swarm follows the pull the Arc Swarmer drone or being sent to defend another ship.

Necrotic ability: Developed by the Necromancers that have joined the Legion to train the Combat Necromancer recruits joining the Legion
>Hex - By sending a mote of condensed Necrotic energy a Hex can produce a range of effects depending on its target. Mechanical and computer systems will fail as mechanisms and circuitry corrode and degrade, armor and melee weaponry will be weakened. Living targets will sustain necrotic damage as their cells are rapidly aged and destroyed although powerful manipulators can consciously have the effect lessened to merely weaken their target.

>Solar Farm: Utilizing the energy of a Solar reactor, nutrient vats are used to grow cloned teratomas similar in appearace to a catoblepas teratomas. While not as fast growing as using a proper catoblepas these protein biomass farms allow the generation of biomass on planets and moons lacking a local ecosystem to exploit or adapt. While most sentient races may disagree the teratomas, grown off of Solar energy rather than an Necrotic organism, are safe for consumption and used as protein for food processors. Generates 10B

>Specter Armor: A specialized light-armored suit made from materials subjected to the energies of the disruptor pods. Matte black reinforced chitin protects against incorporeal attacks such as those from Spectral units or potentially even Sun-Eater Wraiths. While lacking the stopping power or enhanced cybernetics of heavier armors the Specter Armor has several advantages. Powered by a miniature necrotic core the armor is able to replicate the disruption energies of the anomaly allowing the wearer to pass through solid objects for a short period of time before having to rest due to the core needing to cooldown. If charged the armor is able to passively protect again incoming kinetic attacks, the armor producing a localized field to allow the object to pass through with little harm. While avoiding lacerations and exsanguination phased attacks do leave intense bruising in their wake and strong enough attacks or sustained attacks will still cause traumatic damage to the wearer. Light enough to be worn under clothing with a discreet armored hood the armor can be disguised for stealth purposes.

>Phaser Rifle: A medium weapon that fires kinetic rounds through a quasiphasic field generator, causing the accelerated slugs to dematerialize after firing. Upon hitting any sufficiently dense matter, the slug's unstable phasing stops and the round re-materializes inside the target and is torn to shreds from the unstable process, causing intense shrapnel wounds. The phasing has a limited range, as after some distance the slug becomes unstable and disintegrates. It is also incapable of penetrating even the most minuscule anti-energy weapon defense system. The inability to expand the quasiphasic fields to larger objects for an expanded period of time prevents it from being scaled up for starship use.

>Disruptor Blade: Resembling a typical blade such as a sword, knife, or bladed claws these matte black blades are capable of reliably striking incorporeal targets. While lacking the cutting power of a hard-light blade or thermal vibroblade, disruptor blades are capable of occasionally bypassing simple armor to strike at the organic matter beneath. When equipped to a unit under Quasiphasic Disruption their cutting power and damage is increased. While they have yet to be tested against a real Wraith these blades are theorized to be able to affect them.
>>
>>1369337
Weapon Upgrade:
>Phasic Harpoon: An upgrade to the ship mounted harpoonguns that channels a quasiphasic field through the barb of a fired harpoon rendering it incoporeal. Upon striking any sufficiently dense mater the barb deploys it's web of metamaterial strands moments before the quasiphasic field fails causing the materials of the harpoon to fuse at the molecular level with its target. This greatly reduces a chance of escape as the harpoons can only be removed by channeling another field through the base of the harpoon, cutting the tether free, or the portion of the hull ripping away.

Research gained:
>Quasiphasic Armor: Medium - With the development of the Specter Armor the Think Tanks wish to expand on using disruptor technology in defensive areas

Dawn breaks over Horizon's Drop and new arrivals spread their leaves and petals to the red star to drink in it's nurturing light. The elemental potentials had arrived the previous day but give the various tasks that drew your attention they were content with settling in among what was being called the Floral Quarter by the residents of Iti'a'Ropku. Sapling Slrrt had spent the day helping them acclimate to their new home for the time being, the potentials eager to meet with you and begin their training.

Voidknight Jareth arrives on Clour and meets Ruscuv, the two undead sizing each other up before Jareth pointed out they did not have time for a duel if they were to keep up with Jadyk's plan. They converse over strategies for the raids again N'Tiin as they joined the fleets in orbit as they prepared to depart. Ruscuv finally taking a break to step out onto the hull of the battleship with Jareth to admire the silent void and look down on the world she'd been entombed in for so long. She makes a remark when they returned inside to depart with their fleets that Clour had a lot more water on its surface when she'd arrived.

On the streets of Veraga Prime your living agents hear the quickly swelling rumors of the Refuge crisis, a few mentioning the word Armada but your agents search for more clear answers at the urging of their demi-Think Tank.

Nekris reports that the Zaeen have been spotted and their ships have spread out in attempts to corral them and drive them out of the storms. He promises to bring a suitable souvenir of his trip back with him.

Vle'Karak busied himself with learning what he could of the Armada now that he was given access to a demi-Think Tank. He read over non-classified information about the formation of the Legion and the efforts of the Armada to help those it takes in and protects, his curiosity piqued at the knowledge of liberating the Stonestar and Ructu from his niece. Among his few remarks to the demi-Think Tank he states that the loss of the Stonestar was a sore-spot for his Matriarch niece, the serpent desiring the powerful warrior race as her own personal vassals.

Dominator Valresko sends word that he and the Cabal request an audience concerning the Sunscale project now that four more clones had been awakened with the Warblood finally grown and starting their reeducation.

Several of your Think Tanks involved with the completed Quasiphasic projects state that the Armatocere would pay dearly for access to some of their technology unlocked, particularly if applied toward the joint anti-wraith projects.

There was much to be done and tend to. What shall you do first?

Valresko was deep in conversation with Raakah and Beqor in the hidden observation chamber as Guir was below in the chamber interacting with the newly awakened pair of Scouts. In a nearby chamber a pair of Divers were lounging in shallow heated pools as smoke filled the chamber from narcotikelp burning in a large brazier nearby. The sadism of the sober Divers was well known to the Cabal, their insistence letting Valresko allow the use of the necrotic infused drug to keep them sedated and compliant.

Their conversation ceases as a door opens and a Harbinger enters, "I hear more progress has been made in the project," your voice letting them know you were in control of the undead.

The trio bow before the undead as it moves to look down at Guir going over simple questions and tasks to test their reeducation. Beqor moves to stand next to the Harbinger and look down as well, "Yes, the first Scout and Diver clones are awakened, only two each to begin. The Warbloods have also finished gestation and their reprogramming begun. They should be ready in a day or two."

Valresko looks down at the green Sunscale perched on branching bones emerging from the floor, the arboreal reptiles finding it more comfortable than sitting, "Much like the Workers they appear to be taking well to the reprogramming. The Workers seem to...enjoy their habitat for now."

Raakah snorts as she looks to the Harbinger, "They are getting restless though. A Worker must work just as the other castes will feel their own compulsions. Even if we give them a simple forge or an area to build and toil with stone and mortar that would be enough to keep them occupied for a time. The Scouts and Divers will be a different challenge."

"Do they praise the name of the Wormstar?" you ask through the puppet.

Beqor glances at Valresko's impossible to read face then back to the Harbinger, "The Workers appear to have acclimated. The Scouts and Divers are still adjusting to their constructed memories but show similarities to the Workers progress at that stage. The Workers will repeat the prayers that the Chitin Choir sings to them every few hours so that is encouraging I would think."

The Harbinger turns its eyeless gaze to Valresko, "Your thoughts, Dominator?"

Valresko was silent for a short time as he continued to watch Guir and the Scouts with his hands clasped behind his back. Finally he lifts his head and a crack appears through the bone in his face, a sliver where flame and voice emerge, "They have had more dreams. Dreams of green scales and mutated flesh. Around the same time, accounting for time dilation, as a few of your necromancers happened to experience similar dreams.

"Normally I pay little heed to the dreams of the living, that is your domain, Lord Jadyk. But these occurrences...they trouble me," he gives a shrug of his shoulders, "It could be them attuning to the mental landscape that links the living through the Dreamstones and Deep Rot, their minds accepting the Necrotic influence around them. Or it could be something else."

Beqor scratches at his chin with a claw, "Hmm, yes, Valresko expressed these concerns to us before. We've seen the dream recordings and yes, the similarities between the dreams of our Workers and your...other Necromancers are intriguing. My theory is as Valresko said, their subconscious attuning to the dreamscape of the Armada. We've never experienced anything such as the Dreamstone or their sprawling influence on your living subjects so this is admittedly uncharted territory for us."

"What would your suggestions be?" you ask them.

Valresko glances at the Blackscale then turns to face the Harbinger fully, "Delay awakening the Warbloods and the rest of the clones. Until we can be assured we can avoid disaster."

Raakah speaks up, "Keep the rest in their comas but we must awaken at least two or three of the Warblood. They are the true test of our reprogramming skill."

Beqor took a moment to answer until he saw the Harbinger looking at him, "I would actually suggest introducing the Workers to the Scouts and Divers. Their interactions would be enlightening. Also would be...good for them, I believe."

How shall you advise them to progress?

"Keep the Warbloods asleep for now. It is the safest route for them," you say through the Harbinger and it turns back to look at the Scouts with Guir, "Introduce them. They already know of each other, no reason to keep them apart. Make sure the Divers have enough of the narcotikelp as well. The drug may help the others further embrace their new teachings as well."

The Blackscale bow and Raakah speaks, "As you will it, Lord Jadyk. We will ensure their eventual loyalty to you and the Armada."

The Harbinger nods its head, "Excellent."

Was there anything you wished to speak with either Valresko or the Cabal before you return to other matters?

What is the extent of your knowledge of the Father and Mother?(I forget their titles,I just know its in and of the void and solar).

>>1369857
You were about to question the two Blackscale about their knowledge of the Mother and Father when Raakah speaks before you, "My lord, there is something we must admit."

The Harbingers head tilts in curiosity, "Go on."

Beqor speaks instead, "Several hours ago our vessel received contact from another Cabal. We limit our contacts between the Cabals for our own safety to hide from the Divers and the Deepborne."

Raakah picks up the train of thought, "So it was quite a shock when their message requested our two Cabals having a meeting. They only mentioned it involved both the Sunscale and Confederate fleets. We have not replied yet."

You could feel Valresko's annoyance at not being informed of the message but says nothing.

How should the Blackscale reply to this message?

Ask for Beqor's opinion on how to handle the situation. Make it a test for the blackscales to see if they can handle future interactions with the cabals.
>>
>>1369979
>Suggest meeting at an isolated planet or location
Have a small amount of stealth units, enough so that their presence is masked by the necrotic power of the Blackscales, and have some ships wait nearby so that if things go south we can react if need be.
>>
>>1369775
>Also should we try making a new caste? Like mixing the best of the castes genetic info with the Blackscale
That's definitely something you could try. Would likely be difficult and probably dangerous but still attemptible
>>
>>1369979
>>Invite them to an Armada held world
>>Other
This is convenient, I've been meaning to draw more of your fellow cabals under the umbrella of protection the Armada can offer. Do not yet tell them of my reawakening for risk of spreading the news to your sunscale cousins, but I shall leave a harbinger with you to bring along to this meeting. I would speak to them through it.
>>
>>1370010
If we draw too many of the Cabals together at once then the SunScales will focus more and more of their forces on us. We are not ready for that when we are still dealing with two empires and we have only fought the Sunscales in 1 battle(Nekris' hunt doesn't count).
>>
>>1369979
The chance to contact more of the Cabals was a tempting chance. Nodding to the Blackscale the Harbinger speaks, "Meet with them in a location far from the Armadas territory. We do not wish to draw the attention of your orthodox cousins upon us just yet. I will send a Harbinger with you should the situation require them knowing whom you serve now."

The pair of necromancers bow once more before you, "Of course, Lord Jadyk. We typically meet in the darkness between systems where the watchful glare of the Father can't reach us."

As the Harbinger left the room Valresko follows. He is silent for a short time then speaks, "Is it wise to bring in more Cabals? They may draw the attention of the Sunscale fleets."

"They haven't joined us just yet. First I would like to hear why they would break their precious isolation," you muse. The Harbinger looks to Valresko then, "You seem troubled, Valresko. Has this post worn on you?"

The undead general was silent for a time then gives a curt nod, "It is a wearisome task. I have been training the Arbiters while Sur-Quro is absent but I feel almost...misused in a location such as this," he shook his head, "Admittedly I can still assist with the planning of raids and invasions but..." he trails off and you can feel a sudden embarrassment from him for exposing his reservations.

"It is nothing like leading fleets from a flagship, this I know. Fear not, Valresko, your destiny is not to be forever surrounded by ice. Soon I suspect you will be out among the stars once more. The wheels of war constantly turn and I will have need once more of my Dominator," you say through the Harbinger.

Valresko turns to bow and salute, "Forgive my doubts, Lord Jadyk. I know what the Blackscale strive for here is of immense importance and I will do what I can to ensure its success."

"Of that, I have no doubt, Valresko," the Harbinger says before your mind moves to other matters and the Reconstructed puppet falls silent.

Valresko watches as it drifts off mindlessly then turn to make his way to the Arbiters barracks. He passed a junction and paused as he spotted the Reconstructed Sunscale slowly pushing a hovercart of copper ingots that would become a snack for the Worker clones. The Reconstructed turns its gaze to him and its speed picks up at his mental command.

His talons clacked against the floor as the undead passed him only for Valresko to shake his head in disappointment. If it wasn't for the Blackscales attachment to their first experiment he would have taken it upon himself to refine the process and rid it of it's defects.
>>
>>1370092
It's kind of a pity how impatient just about all our generals are. I would have thought Valresko at least would have had the long term planning to willing muck about with duties he didn't necessarily enjoy for the sake of laying the foundation of future plans.
>>
>>1370103
It seems more like he is upset that he has to deal with this taking longer, and baring a lesser fruit then he feels it should. If he was allowed to work this project himself rather then merely oversee he probably would be perfectly happy.

Ruscuv barely fit through the doors to the command bridge of the battleship Jareth had used to retrieve her from Clour. A holographic display of the N'Tiin system was projected before them showing the movements of the ships moving between the planets. Among the holograms an image of yourself flickers into being and Jareth turns to bow before it while Ruscuv gives a nod.

"Greetings, Lord Jadyk, I was just discussing the plan of attack with Lord Ruscuv," the Voidknight says.

"Do not let me interfere with your planning, Jareth. I merely intended to give my blessing and to wish you luck in your endeavor," your image says.

Ruscuv lets out a laugh, the claws of her humanoid hand tapping on the tables bone surface, "Are you that assured of this Empire's skill?"

Voidknight Jareth looks across the table to the Lich, "The Empire likely has one of the strongest militaries in this galaxy. If the Emperor announced a crusade against the Armada we would likely have to relocate to another sector."

Ruscuv laughs once more but holds up her hands defensively, "I meant no insult. I trust your insight, you have more personal experience with them afterall. I merely meant it was strange to hear Jadyk of all undead wishing anyone luck and giving his blessing," she mused.

Jareth nods his head in understanding then turns to the data from the N'Tiin system.

>N'Tiin

>Star: Medium Blue

>Planets:

>Rocky planet: A large, heavily mined world, several domed cities protecting the population of Osjiic and their slaves.

>Tur've: A high gravity oceanic world where a unique ecosystem of buoyant lifeforms have flourished. Numerous Osjiic bunker-cities, the hive-like population centers extending further underground than into the air, dot the landscape of the small continents. The population is almost solely Osjiic and their Yuyut slaves, most races unable to handle the intense gravity. A pair of space elevators are positioned opposite of each other along the equator connecting to large space stations that house the picket fleets patrolling the system. Its moon has a large military base dedicated to their conflicts against the neighboring Ahkam systems.

>Tor've: A planet that once had a thriving biosphere is now mostly barren with small seas at the polar caps under thick ice. Osjiic bunker-cities dot the landscape, the crust heavily mined to fuel the numerous shipyards on its surface and moon.

>Binary Gas Giants: A pair of gas giants linger at the edges of the system, spinning recklessly around each other sharing almost innumerable moons. The planets are mined heavily for fuel, the largest of the moons covered in refineries.

Fleets have moved into position over Tur've and Tor've with smaller forces protecting the installations on the binary gas giants moons and the rocky planet near the sun.

How should they launch their attacks?
>>
>>1370177
Since this is a raid its gotta be quick. Send a portion of our forces to destroy the small amount of enemy forces by the gas giants, though not enough to immediately overwhelm them. This way we can lure in enemy forces from the inner planets and once they get close enough, our remaining forces will assault them and the ones currently engaged near the gas giants will now attack at full power, allowing them to quickly remove them and aid against the enemy's main forces. If we still have time before enemy reinforcements arrive then we should do a quick bombing run on their refineries and ship yards and then scram.

There was only complete darkness and the sound of dripping water drowned out by a man shouting as he struggled against the bonds holding him down as water splashed just under his shoulders. It had only been at his waist when he had awoken. The liquid was thick with salt, letting the man know he was somewhere near the ocean. His body ached from his wounds, in particular a stabbing pain at the base of his neck where he felt something shift against his collar bone.

He almost didn't notice the lights at first until he was able to see the reflection of the necrotic crystals set in the ceiling of the cavern and showed he wasn't alone in the small chamber. A Shadow perched silently on a nearby rock sticking out of the water, the man not knowing how long the undead had been there watching him. It's mimetic flesh ripples slightly in the distorted light cast by the crystals and the rising water. He struggled against the ropes that bound him to a boulder, realizing they weren't woven from fibers but rather organic sinew that was resisted his efforts without budging.

The human started to shout out his demands to be released, the sight of the undead not seeming to phase him longer than a few moments. A sudden electric pain shot through him from whatever was lodged in his flesh and he cries out. By the time he regained his senses he saw there was another that had joined them from some unseen doorway.

The Wayward Disciple nods in satisfaction as they fell silent, the tall undead walking forward, their feet just barely touching the surface of the water as they used their telekinetic gift avoid plunging into the warm water, "Good to see you are awake, Marshal Grette," the Voidflame shrouded undead chuckles at his shocked look, "What I require from you is more than information about your rank and name. No, I require from you more detailed information and I would prefer to gain it from you in a...civilized and less painful manner."

The human licked their cracked lips before speaking, "You are an abomination against the Council, you-" they were silenced by another bout of painful seizures as they had begun to rile themselves up with a zealots anger.

The Disciple shook their head, "As I said, I would prefer this to be done with as little pain done to you. I find cruelty to be a messy tool but it can be effective if you know how to use it. You may have noticed that the tide is moving in. Fear not, you shall not drown but I can say for certain you'll not enjoy the company I intend to introduce to you if I find your answers...unsatisfactory. Do you understand me, Marshal Grette? There is no Council down here, only you and me."

They stared up at you as their emotions roiled beneath them, terror and righteous anger at the forefront but eventually terror won out. He slumped in their bonds, "What do you want to know?"

What shall the Disciple question their prisoner?

"Let's begin simply. What was your convoy transporting? Why the importance to have such a heavy guard and if it if was so important, why transport it by land? You clearly see the dangers of that now," the Disciple questions as they stand before the bound human.

They were silent for a few moments, glaring up at the undead defiantly but as the Shadow slinked through the water closer to him while flexing clawed fingers that glow with thermal energy he finally breaks his composure, "Alright alright!" he says with desperation in his voice, "It's a piece of salvage from a recent battle. The Countess wants to send it to be examined in Veth," the city he mentions being the convoys destination, a large metropolis known to be a city were vast amounts of slaves were funneled each year but the population never seemed to increase, "I don't know why we were sent by land, only that we were to keep it safe..." the empathic sensor could sense the truth of his statement and feel the shame that welled up in him.

"Did a poor job of that for certain," the Wayward Disciple remarks and the human flinches. The undead looks down at him, "Tell me about this synthetic foe I've heard so much about. I suspect this salvage was one of their soldiers?"

He nods as the water rises up to his shoulders, "They are the enemies of the Council and all who follow their holy cause. They create monsters in mockery of the Council's creations, using metals and other unhallowed materials to fight us across multiple stars," they fall silent for a moment, "I faced them once before when they attacked this star plane, targeting one of Calera's sisters far from the light of the sun. Their vessels look strange, like creatures of the sea but with powerful weaponry of profane make. Some of the clerics say they may have learned their craft from the blasphemer betrayer Jadyk."

The Disciple clacks their teeth at the remark, "Doubtful. Tell me what you know of Jadyk and the Wormstar."

Grette looked at the undead as if they were mad, "Jadyk was the betrayer that slaughtered the Wormstar and caused it's power to be broken. But the Council was able to rise up and overthrow Jadyk to take their rightful place as inheritors of the Wormstars mantle of command. The Wormstar died so that the Council may ascend and take its place as is the will of the Universe."

It took the Disciple a moment to compose themselves to avoid laughter at their warped belief. Instead they nod, "A flattering story for the Council for sure. I fear it's a little different that what the people of Calera have been made to believe. In time, perhaps you will learn the truth. But for now, I have many more questions for you," they say as they crouch down in front of him, their helm folding back to reveal their bare skull wreathed in Voidflame.

They were reluctant at first but the Marshal revealed his knowledge of the Synthetic enemy. He did not know their official name, the military of the Council merely calling them Synths or Synthetics. They had been at war with the Council the last decade or so at a near stalemate fighting over a pair of star systems that bordered their territories, possession of the systems and their planets exchanging hands many times. Their home system was unknown although the Council was very interested in discovering the location of their homeworld after the Synthetics had discovered and invaded the Calera system.

From the memories and confessions of the Marshal the Synthetics technology seemed to surpass the Confederates in certain areas such as biomechanical engineering but seemingly lacking in others such as space travel, relying on a relatively primitive FTL gravity drive similar to the Councils own ancient engine designs.

The Disciple patted the soaked head of the human as the sea-water splashes up against his chin as he struggled to keep his face above the high tide, "Thank you for your assistance, Marshal Grette. Your service is not yet complete," you say as the Shadow injects the man with a barb of its cluster sting whip and the human passes out only to be hauled out of the water and secured in a nearby stretcher to be placed in a cell for memory downloading and reprogramming to be compliant to the Armada's teachings.

The Wayward Disciple pondered briefly if Jadyk would protest to their ways of recruiting the former soldiers of the Council, their minds overwhelmed by Armadan propaganda designed by a Think Tank. They brushed the concern away, knowing that their task assigned by both Jadyk and the Masked to be beyond such petty moral conundrums.

Having discovered the location of the two star systems where the Council wages war against the Synthetics the Disciple had already ordered a pair of Eyegore pods to be constructed, Coffins waiting to haul them into orbit to send them to investigate.

Deep in the Disciples hidden fortress a Think Tank and Cauldron attempt to investigate the salvaged piece of synthetic technology.

Oh hey, if we're discussing design layouts for a dedicated spectre unit, I'd like to propose we add a bunch of bone chain tendrils to it's back, capped off with phasic blades to better assist with phantom stabbings. It works pretty well for Akka-tor's wraiths, I think it'll work even better for our units.

So a Specter would essentially be

Specter:
>Body: Talon
>Adaptations:
>Quasiphasic Disrupted
>Disruptor Blade claws
>Metal-sheathed bones
>Advanced camoflage
>Cluster Stingwhip: Neurotoxin/Paralytic Venom
>Advanced jump-pack/Anti-grav Harness

Potentially with
>Bone Chain tendrils
>Cyclopean Gaze
>Wings (instead of jump-pack)

Suggestions?

As long as it's also equipped with a Phaser Rifle for hit-and-fade attacks where it literally disappears into the walls, yeah.

The Phaser Rifle itself can be treated to phase in and out with the reconstructed using it, right?

...right?
>>
>>1375912
Nope. Disrupted units cannot use ranged weapons, they are purely melee fighters. They can however develop grenades that become solid once they are released from the grasp of the unit.

All attempts have shown that bullets don't regain solidity and blasters (the various flensers and flayers) cannot produce damaging effects. Ranged weapons also seem to have a high rate of failure upon being disrupted as various parts become solid or phase through each other, effectively destroying their firing mechanisms.

Now a Necrolyte wearing a suit of Specter Armor would be able to phase through a wall while carrying a phaser rifle and be able to fire it once solid again but they can't fire the weapon while incorporeal.
>>
>>1375926
..That's fucking with my mind harder than the negative mass fluid I read about today.

Okay, so we need Specter Armor for our Necrolyte Berserker Lady. ...and possibly to make an elite non-energy using Necrolyte team like the SAS or SEALS to take advantage of Specter Armor/Phaser Rifle synergy.

The blue light of N'Tiin shone like a bright jewel in the stellar distance as it's twin gas giants circle each other in disturbingly close proximity. Their moons were subjected to varying levels of gravity that fluctuated as they orbited the giants, meaning only automated workers and osjiic themselves could handle the occasionally intense gravity that would threaten to break most other sapient races. Refineries toiled as they processed the raw gas siphoned from the atmospheres of the jovian worlds, barges the size of capital ships trailing tethers that stretched dozens of kilometers into the storms below as they skimmed the upper atmospheres. The fuel refined here would be transferred to nearby osjiic systems or pumped into the warships and fleets that stopped by from time to time.

Yet it wasn't an osjiic fleet returning from a scouting mission or raid against the Ahkam that appeared the largest of refineries. In a cascade of light and various energy signatures a small fleet of Armada ships emerged from FTL and moments later weaponsfire and energy blasts lit up the void. Osjiic ships were caught flat-footed as the unexpected attackers send missiles and strikecraft out to harry the barges and defending ships.

As predicted the picket fleets around Tor've sends a portion of its warships to defend the fuel refineries. Half of their number stays behind to guard the shipyards while the fleets of Tur've move to reinforce the defenses around their space elevators connected to the oceanic world. The Tor've reinforcements race across the system as the Armada and Osjiic ships trade fire as they battled around the moons on seemingly equal footing.

Yet as the reinforcements near the gas giants there was another series of flashing lights and a multitude of energy signatures only this time grouped in two portions through the system. A large fleet emerged from behind one of the gas giants lead by Voidknight Jareth in his Void Terror, their spinal cannons sending kinetic slugs infused with Necrotic energy ripped through the void at near-light speeds. The kinetic rounds collide with shields and hulls or strike several of the fuel refineries that detonate with colossal spheres of flame. The largest refineries posses shields, the domes of refracted energy and light shining bright as they are struck but held.

The other fleet that emerged below the systems plane was smaller than the other fleets and raced for Tor've's southern pole, Ruscuv standing in the bridge of a battleship as she guided the fleet. The osjiic seemed surprised by the attack, their remaining picket forces taking longer than expected to move to intercept the attackers. Ruscuv's excitement bubbled over, seeming to infect the crew of the battleship she commanded from as they struck at the picket forces trading kinetic rounds then sending missiles and strikecraft racing out in their wake.

>cont

>>1376573
With the Armada reinforcements the Empires ships guarding the gas giants were overwhelmed as they were struck from the flanks and rear. The refineries shielded from their attacks seemed to weather the assault well with anti-ship weapons lashing out at any strikecraft that dared to come too close. Rather than waste the time to eliminate the last hold-outs Jareth has the fleet regroup and turn to face the reinforcements from Tor've that had continued their charges despite their now inferior numbers and the battle unfolding near Tor've.

The battles were brutal affairs, the Empire and Armada ships striking at each other in what was becoming a straight-up slugfest. Yet neither undead commander was worried even as Tur've mobilizes a retaliatory fleet from its defensive forces.

Another cascade of light and energy signals ripple through the system as more Armada strike fleets emerge to the anger and worry of the Osjiic fleets. The reinforcements for Jareths fleet emerge from above the solar plane, their numbers splitting to come down in a pincer on the sides of the osjiic fleet, their missiles and kinetic slugs ripping through shields as energy beams and blasts tear through hulls and strikecraft. The space around the gas giants became filled with the wreckage of Osjiic ships as the ambushers rip into them mercilessly.

The fleet engaged with Ruscuv's fleet heard the alerts from the other side of the planet Tor've where another fleet, guided by a Voidknight Disciple, emerged and launched their attack against the meager defenses and launched bombing runs against the shipyards on the surface. Locked in combat with Ruscuv the osjiic were unable to fall back to defend the valuable shipyards without exposing their rear to a counter-attack and so they dutifully continue to fight the Lich's fleet.

This time it was the systems Eyegore that sent out an alert at a sudden appearance of several gravity wells and then detected bursts of void energy throughout the system. Appearing over both Tur've and Tor've heavy Osjiic fleets appeared and launched their fighters to clash with the Disciple and Ruscuvs forces. Another fleet appeared in the lagrange point of the twin jovian worlds, a large heavily armored battleship resembling the one Jareth had encountered 13 Ascendant Blade leading the fleet.

>cont
>>
>>1376577
Only, this time no proclamations were made, no attempts at communication. This time, their only message was one of fury and war as they leaped into battle against the Armada forces. It startled them at first, this newfound fury from the Empire, but soon Jareth and Ruscuv gave the commands and Armada ships attempted to fall back from the new foes.

While the Lich was loathe to retreat from a proper battle she was wise enough to realize the fleets that arrived were larger and stronger than their own, not to mention the forces of Tor've still fresh and unharmed. It takes nearly two hours before the last of the Armada ships depart from the system. Those forced to stay behind from crippled engines and damaged hulls were rigged to overload their elemental reactors and detonate as Osjiic ships attempted to board them or opened fire to reduces them to smolder space-debris.

The Armada fleets had suffered moderate losses but they were nothing compared to the damage sustained by the Osjiic, all but one of their refinery moons destroyed and many of their shipyards damaged from the Disciples bombers. The Eyegore watched as the system recovered from the attack, the protective fleet only shedding a portion of its numbers to depart to other systems as the main bulk of the fleet stayed behind to help with repairs and salvage.

You had to admit you were impressed by the progress that the "Floral Quarter" had undergone since the arrival of Sapling Slrrt. On the outskirts of Iti'a'Ropku was a small burgeoning forest of alien trees and plants. A Treeship looms over the others, deceptively appearing as a broad and warped tree with short branches and large leaves, Gargoyles perched among its branches alongside the small wildlife that seemed to accompany all Armatocere. The ground was rich earth covered with dense moss, small blue and purple flowers blooming along the green as it churned the rock of the mountain peaks into fertile soil.

Snow fell gently on the city but here it melted into a light mist, the air humid and warm enough to make several of the Armada citizens visiting to strip off layers of clothing to enjoy the unique sights. They paused to bow their heads low and utter praise as you passed them by, their excited murmuring following you as your Throne carried you to the Treeship where you were awaited.

Sapling Slrrt, recently returned from Rukor and Vyi'a'Rthun, stood before a portion of the elemental potentials that had been sent from Yrre-1 to learn the secrets of energy manipulation. You had some reservations about teaching them the secrets of the Necrotic but you were keen to discover what their unique outlook could bring to the Armada if they shared their gifts in turn.

Upon your arrival the floral members gathered turn to greet you, the air tinged with the chemical conversations that many of them shared between each other. Slrrt slides over to you as the Throne sets down, his main stalk bending in greeting as his mechanical voice drones out, "Welcome, Lord Jadyk. Your students are quite eager to begin learning and to get a chance to witness Iti'a'Ropku."

"They will have that chance shortly. First, I would like to speak with them before their initiation," you say and stand up from the Throne, the Dirges fused to its surface giving almost imperceptible puffs of telekinetic power to keep the pollen from accumulating on them as they waited.

The floral initiates were arrayed before you, a mix of strange forms and minds looking at you with impossible to read emotions. The pale sapling lingered near the edge of the group alongside the stunted cacti, the pair of Necrotic potentials seeming to stare at you with increased intensity.

Incidentally, we should rig up some ambient crystal sponges in the floral quarter when we get the chance. Given how overgrown it is it would be sure to slow the transformation of the void and necrotic plants by a lot.

First things first for the love of the wormstar NONE of them are being taught to use a cauldron,

Secondly i am BEYOND against teaching any living being outside of our faction how to use necrotic energy i know there are more than a few anons that agree, If we can wrangle the necrotic potentials into joining us then fine but otherwise, no.

Any other element i am fine with teaching them. besides anyone we teach to manipulate necrotic energy WILL turn into an undead at SOMEPOINT if they live long enough and don't overdo their feeding.
>>
>>1376780
They aren't actually part of our faction Anon, teaching them to use cauldron tech is pretty well HANDING them the keys to a false flag operation if they are ever inclined.
>>
>>1376652
Also Guys The deal we made with them NEVER included teaching them how to use necrotic energy, we offered them the ELEMENTAL energies such as the Arc and Solar and you could make an argument for Void, But you would be hard pressed to define necrotic energy as an elemental power
>>

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MX8NDBJLVqA

The elemental potentials move back slightly as you pull your legs up under you to float seated in the air before them, "I must thank you for your willingness to trust me and travel here to learn. I am unsure how far your own understanding of the elemental properties of the universe extend but let me share what I have uncovered. Be warned though, my understanding is far from absolute, there are still many things to discover about the mysteries of the universe. Even in all my centuries of existing, I had never known or suspected that the power of the Arc existed until I encountered the Ahkam and revealed that it's presence was always there in the underpinnings of reality. Someday you or another of your kind may discover a new type of energy, the future is never clear."

The thinking plants watched in silent intensity, the audience growing as several Armada civilians had been drawn by the gathering and stood back to observe. You hold out a hand and a small green flame of Necrotic energy appears, several of the plants recoiling slightly but you speak calmly, "Beings such as myself, the undead, are commonly fueled by the power Necrotic. Others have called it Entropic energy and they may be correct in that classification. The Necrotic consumes. It is the hunger, the weakness that gnaws at all things, that causes reality to age. Necrotic energy is the personification of that power, a paradoxical expression of something that should not be.

"Yet it is not just the endless hunger of entropy that most assume it to be. Necrotic energy can sustain and preserve, preventing the passage of time or even distorting it. It is force that consumes the energy of the dead and dying, revitalizing it and in time releasing it back out into the universe," you say as the green flame dances above your palm.

Clenching your fist the flame disappears, "I mentioned the Arc and the Ahkam. The power Arc is quite familiar to all sapient beings that have tamed the powers electricity. To the uninformed electricity would appear to be the power Arc itself, but just as rust and rot are merely an expression of the Necrotic, so too electricity is merely an expression of the Arc. The Arc connects. All forms of matter bond to one another in some way and in ways, our emotions bond us together as individual beings. The Arc is the representation of this universal rule of connection.

"As with the Necrotic, it is not as it seems. The Arc connects, invisible strands of energy connecting the stars and planets in an ever expanding web but the Arc also stretches and explores. It reaches out, eager to forge new bonds and connections even as it pulls those already connected together. It is the nature of the Arc to connect all that exists by forming new connections and strengthening those already in place," you say to them as they drink in your words.

Your clenched fist uncurls and a small sphere of twisted voidlight spins above your palm sending motes of distorted light out like sparks from a flame, "The Void sings, it's song the forces of gravity and emptiness that cradle and shape all reality. It is the unfelt and unseen power that fills the vacuum, the force that causes the universe to expand and spin. The Void is the mother of reality, existing before all things, the canvas upon which the cosmic history is painted. Be warned though, just as all energies, the Void is a mighty danger to those that would abuse its power such as the Osjiic Empire. The Void is just as voracious as the Necrotic in consuming energy and when granted upon the living that includes their very life energy, consuming them until all that is left are their bones engulfed in its power.

"The Void is more than an emptiness though. Tied with the forces of gravity it is the force that unites, that gathers the dust in the vacuum and compresses it into a planet. It is the pull of a star, its song causing the planets to fall into their orbits. The Void is force, the push and the pull, the cause and effect," the sphere of void energy above your palm dimming until it winks out but there was a sudden spark.

That spark spread and grew, flames engulfing your hand then sliding like water to form into a small sun floating above your palm, it's light and flames a bright orange that causes many to shield their eyes and light receptor organs, "The power Solar is perhaps one of the more noticeable of energies," you say and cast your gaze skyward to where the red star of Horizon's Drop shone through the branches of the Treeship, "It is the antithesis to the Necrotic, the power of freely granted energy. It is the power Solar to takes the power consumed by the Necrotic and returns it to the universe through the stars and radiation that fill our universe. It's light comforts and encourages life, it's embodiments worshiped across the galaxy as divine beings in countless civilizations.

"The Solar is not the nurturing caretaker though. It's power is among the most devastating in the universe, it's flames consuming all it comes in contact with. It is not by chance that many of these primitive civilizations personify the Solar as a force of righteous and primal fury. It's light can be the nurturing caretaker, coaxing life to spread where ever it touches or it can be the searing radiance that scourges a planets surface clean of atmosphere and life," you let the flames creep along your arm, several among the crowd that had slowly gathered to whisper among themselves in worry for a moment then you clench your fist and the flames extinguish.

"This gift I bring you to can be considered a curse by some. The powers that form this universe are not to be trifled with or disrespected. They are paradoxical and will destroy you as easily as uplift and enlighten you. With my help the Armatocere will begin their first strides into these unknown realms, I will guide you so that you may bring enlightenment back to your people," you fall silent and look to the floral creatures watching you.

There was silence in the clearing except for the distant sounds of the city and the songs of the creatures that lived among the plants and trees. Then a soft scraping sound as the pale sapling slides forward on its stout roots with the stunted cacti following until they stood before you. It's leaves and petals quiver slightly then its main stalk bends in a deep bow, the crude mechanical box it wore around its middle letting out a synthetic voice, "Teach us, Lord Jadyk. Teach us and guide us," it says simply.

It's word were crude and simple but they were repeated by those of the Armatocere that possessed a voicebox, the mute members showing their agreement as they all pressed forward slightly. You would have smiled if your had a proper face of flesh and muscle, instead you nod in satisfaction, reaching our hand out and several vines and bark-covered limbs stretch out to and lay across your palm, a sign of utmost trust from these creatures that were uniquely vulnerable to your abilities, "Thank you," you say simply then pull your hand back and they shuffle back a step, "We shall begin at dawn tomorrow. Take the rest of the day to enjoy yourselves. Visit and walk the streets of Iti'a'Ropku, it is your current home after all. Starting tomorrow, your lives will change forever."

But also i am a dialogue anon, usually i lurk unless i am posting write in dialogue and even then i have to lurk the first ten threads to find out how a character usually thinks acts and talks, i think this quest has actually been the only quest where i tend to be an active participant outside of dialogue .

There was a sudden shout from the pirates clustered on the platforms of their ships as a large shape burst forth from the stormclouds they were circling. Plated with dun-colored plates the Zaeen was nearly as large as a corvette, it's flipper-like limbs rippling along its body as it darted away from the hunters. In seeming defiance of gravity and physics the beast swims through the air as the pirate ships chase after it with shuttles racing ahead to herd the creature.

The Zaeen had been drawn to the upper surface of the gas giants storms by a repurposed fuel harvesting tug. These were the source of the "bait" Captain Vorlam had spoken of, the cables that it trailed emitted a misture of refined starship fuel and other chemicals rather than siphoned the raw gas from the jovian world. The fuel had glimmered in the sunlight as the liquid reacted to the air and immediately turned to a thick, highly combustible vapor that swirled down to mix with the storms below.

Nekris watches from his own cruiser as the pirates go after their first target. His own ships were moving in formation in the atmosphere of the gas giant, tracking the rest of the Zaeen pod still hiding in the storms. Excitement welled up inside of him as sensors reported more movement below and he gave the command to begin.

I think we should start redistributing our really advanced tech, like elemental cores, through the necrolyte legion on squad basis. In every elite squad we should have at least one soldier carrying an elemental core of each type, plus one fully equipped with phasic equipment. Now that I think about it, we should start researching ways to combine phasic and elemental research since we've got a handle on both fields.
>>
>>1377706
I had an idea that was kind of similar. We could make fake General units. We would use the forms of our current general units, and just slap an elemental core in them. Certainly they wouldn't be as smart or strong as real generals, but it would definitely fuck with the enemy's minds. (and I'm all about that)
>>
>>1377706
Any body they recover would give them tech we don't want them to have.

>>1377818
That would disgrace the generals and also if they failed. Really fuck with our own too.
>>
>>1377818
You know, if we could teach our generals to puppet undead under their command like we do, we could have those fake generals work like our harbingers do. A sort of a low powered proxy that can allow the generals to perform duties from lightyears away. Given how busy some of them have been getting lately, that could allow them to get a lot more done in a short span of time.

Coffins flying further down drop a series of thermal imploders behind the shadows of the zaeen pod below. The potent explosives fall into the storm and then eruptions of heat and energy flash in sequence illuminating the silhouettes of the flying creatures. There was a sound that rose up like a scream and moments later a zaeen the length of a frigate breaches the stormcover nearly colliding with a boarding frigate. They were not alone as three more of smaller and similar size burst from the storms to avoid the heat of the explosions.

Nekris twists his mandibles into a grin of excitement then shouted out his commands and the hunting ships leapt into action. The zaeen were fast for creatures their size, somehow being able to swim through the air with surprising speed. A frigate nearest to one of the smaller members swivels its grapnel turrets and fired its four harpoons. Two struck its side and the barbed points burrow into the dense plating along its body causing the beast to buck wildly and nearly rips the turrets from their mounts. Another scream split the air as it surged forward dragging the frigate and its startled crew along with it.

A neighboring frigate accelerated and fired its own harpoons, three of them striking the other side leading to another frantic bucking motion and a burst of speed. The frigates reeled in their spent grapnels, Scourges clinging to the hulls of the ships helping reload the harpoons into their launchers for another shot. As they shot anew with increased accuracy the zaeen lets out a pained bellow once more and moments later one of the frigates pitches to the side as a larger zaeen bursts from the cloud cover below and rams its armored head into the side of the ship as it passed, missing its attack.

It twists in the air, it's pseudowings beating the air furiously as they reaim and launch themselves at the frigates attached to the smaller zaeen. Auxiliary repeater cannons pepper its armored hide with streams of kinetic slugs, the dense armor covering its face deflecting most of the incoming attacks but a few lucky shots managed to score successful hits and the beast twists to avoid in the agitating attacks.

The clouds below were roiling as the storms increased in intensity, the hooked zaeen attempting to drag the ships down with them but at Nekris' order a third frigate moves in to spear it with it's harpoons and help drag it into calmer skies.

As the Armada ships struggled to keep their prey the pirate ships were in pursuit of their own quarry, a large zaeen trailing the snapped lines of four harpoons as a trio of shuttles attempt to wrangle it and slow it down enough for a frigate to move in and fire its harpoons. They were also fending off the now aggressive zaeen, auxiliary mounts swiveling and firing to drive off the charging creatures.

>>1379262
Despite the efforts of both pirate and Reconstructed several shuttles and Coffins were smashed by the angry atmospheric creatures but they were undaunted. Both Nekris and Vorlam shouted out their orders as more grapnels were fired, harpoons burrowing into the armored hides of more of the zaeen.

It took over an hour for the first zaeen to wear it self out, weakened by blood loss as its green blood leaked from its wounds. It was firmly secured to the underside of a slow-moving cruiser, Scourges swarming its form as they took blood and tissue samples while trying to tend to its wounds as best they could. Over the hours several more were caught between the pirates and Reconstructed, most of the pod moving on or escaping back into the storms once they realized they could not save their kin.

Armada Captured:
>2 Living Zaeen
>1 Dead Zaeen

Pirates Captured:
>1 Living Zaeen
>3 Dead Zaeen

The captured zaeen, those still conscious at least, let out pitiful wailing screams echoing through the atmosphere. The Pirate and Armada vessels gather together near another calm patch of the atmosphere as their prizes were firmly secured to the undersides of the hulls.

Vorlam hails Nekris' vessel, her excitement obvious through the holoscreen, "A fine hunt today, Nekris. The people of Myrshyn will be feeding well for weeks to come. I'm thinking of having the bones of the largest mounted on my Clanship," she remarks.

"A find hunt indeed, Captain. Lord Jadyk will be pleased by this I believe," Nekris says.

The netu captain laughs, "I would hope so. I had only expected to capture one or two at most. This was a large pod," she pauses a moment then speak with a sudden somber tone, "I do hope we didn't take too many. They are rare after all, it would be bad if this causes the pod to collapse."

Nekris listens for a few moments to the cries of the Zaeen that reverberates through the hull of his ship, "That would be unfortunate, indeed," he says, holding back that the Armada would be able to clone them once they returned to Horizon's Drop if Jadyk so chose.

Vorlam chats with him, her excitement returning as they discuss the hunt but they were suddenly interrupted as alarms went off in both ships. Sensors frantically saying something of capital ship size was rapidly surfacing through the storms below and that the other Zaeen that had escaped appeared to be returning at a fast speed.

A booming sound rang out then, filling the air and ringing out for miles, the vibrations sending the ships hulls shuddering as something massive bellows its challenge.

With a shout from both Captains the pirate and Armada ships scattered, their engines burning bright as they accelerated desperately to get out of the way. Yet their reactions were too slow and burst forth from the cloud cover below was a Zaeen. Only this one was truly large, nearly the length of a battlecruiser with armor that clearly rivaled a capital ships. Its broad head collides with an Aramada frigate and snaps it nearly in two sending it plummeting into the storms below as flying Reconstructed flee from it in a panic.

The great beast twists in the air and another booming bellow rings out, threatening the eardrums of the pirate crew, before it dives sharply with a flexibility that should've been impossible for a creature its size. This time it targeted a Pirate vessel and obliterates the corvette it collided with in a ball of flame then disappeared into the clouds below once more.

Nekris sends a hail to Vorlams ship and a holoscreen showing her shouting at her crew in the chaos of the sudden attack then turning when the undead began to shout, "Get your ships to orbit! Get your crew to safety and survive, we'll distract it, do you hear me Captain Vorlam?"

She gave a curt nod, "Thank you, General Nekris," she says then begins shouting orders anew and the screen blinks out. The pirate ships rapidly began to climb upwards, their auxiliary weapons firing at the smaller Zaeen that still pursued them.

Below, the shadow of the great Zaeen seems to circle them from below, disappearing from sight in the growing stormclouds. It was the flash of a bolt of lightning that let the Armada ships see it as it charged once more and they swerved to the side once more only this time their weapons lit up the sky as they struck at it as it passed.

It roared out its anger as its body twisted through the air, coiling to aim itself toward the boarding cruisers where the captured Zaeen were secured. They opened fire against the behemoth but it shrugged off the blows with little effort. The cruisers accelerated to escape its attack but would have fallen victim of it's charging if a Coffin hadn't charged forward and collided with the side of the Zaeens head to detonate with the defiant cry of its Pilot in an attempt to protect the larger ships. Recoiling from the pain it misses the Cruisers but rather than dive into the storms once more it twists and charges after the nearby frigates.

With a snap of its head it rams the side of a frigate, gouging a large rent along its side that then erupts in flame and begins falling to the storms below. It chases after another, its dense armor shrugging off its desperate attacks but just as it was about to rear up and slam its heavy head down onto its engines it lets out another pained bellow. A cruiser had fired its harpoons and they dug into its armored plates just behind the head and fired their reverse thrusters to change its course.

>cont
>>
>>1379536
With it distracted with the sudden attack it turns, attempting to charge the cruiser but the frigate it had been chasing whips around to fire its own harpoons. Slowed by the pair of ships tugging at it, it was quickly swarmed by the remaining Armada ships, grapnels firing their harpoons deep into the armored plating of the colossal Zaeen.

Despite trailing five sub-capital ships it continued to struggle, snapping several of the lines as bucked. Finally with another loud bellow that was echoed by the captured and free Zaeen it suddenly dives downward, dragging the ships with it toward the storms.

Clouds soon engulfed them, gale force winds sending the cables connecting harpoon to ship vibrating furiously and snapping a few more. Lightning flashed in the distance as visibly quickly dropped as the beast tried to use the storms to destroy its attackers.

There was another sudden flash of light but this time it was no mere lightning bolt. Instead the bolt of energy traveled along the line of a grapnel and struck the Zaeen with a discharge of Arc energy. Nekris had left the safety of the cruisers command bridge and was now rapidly zipping down the line of the harpoon. Both legs and all four arms secured around the cable that was almost too thick for him to wrap his limbs around he energized the cable once again with a powerful discharge of Arc energy and the behemoth bucks at the attack and slows its descent.

Nekris knew this was nearly suicidal as the gas giant storm raged around them, sliding along a nearly mile-long tether to a truly massive creature but every fiber of his undead being sang with excitement. This was what he was made for, to hunt the impossible of the Galaxy and attempt what no other being was mad enough to try.

Nearing the end of the line he let go and was nearly swept away in the storm but with a flash of Arc light he blinks to the surface of its hide and buries his talons into the bone-like armor of the Zaeen. Using all six limbs he scrambles and blinks along the surface of the Zaeen as his ships desperately attempt to reverse their course. Lightning struck both Zaeen and ship, the behemoth seeming to weather the blows easier than the Armadan vessels.

Finally he had worked his way to the base of the neck of the creature where the dense bone of his armored crest met the armor plates of its body leaving a strip of flexible flesh. As Nekris sank his claws into the pliable flesh to secure himself he noticed he wasn't the only hitch-hiker with strange parasites of various size clinging to the flesh or half-embedded in it.

The storms were raging around them furiously now, deeper than any starship should dare and already the Coffins had to retreat to calmer skies with the sub-capitals frantically doing their best to keep their lines from snapping even as their shields began to fail from the repeated lightning strikes and the fierce winds.

With the claws of his feet firmly embedded into the pliable flesh of the Zaeen behemoth Nekris reaches out and draws in the ambient Arc energy that roiled in the storm around them. While electricity was merely an expression of the Arc the storm still answered his call.

A crackling bolt of lightning struck his outstretched hand and he felt the fury of the storm ride through his body, enhancing it with his own natural Arc energy and focusing it. Crouching he plunged his opposite hand into the flesh of the Zaeens neck and unleashed the energy he had built up directly into its nervous system. The parasites near him swelled and burst like popcorn kernels of ruptured organs and blood, the flesh charring and blackening around where his arm was plunged up to the elbow.

Briefly he realized this was much like how Jadyk had subdued the Beast of Rukor before the Zaeen gave a massive lurch as the agonizing energy rippled through its body. As its head lashed the bone crest he was taking shelter under swiftly moved down and would have crushed him if he hadn't instinctively Blinked away.

He could barely see in the roaring maelstrom as he was suddenly cast away by the winds, Nekris realizing how truly in trouble he was. Building a powerful charge of Arc energy as he planned a powerful Blink his hopes were suddenly dashed as a massive shadow loomed before him and the behemoths bellow shook him down to his bones, a moment later and he was gone as the Zaeen came down upon him.

The undead on board the Armada ships began to panic until the Think Tank that controlled the main cruiser gave a psychic shout of command. Jumping into action the undead launched the remaining missiles of their sub-capitols and below them in the storm they saw the Zaeen's struggling by the light of the explosions rippling along its sides.

Finally, after nearly three hours of a struggle they managed to haul the dazed behemoth above the storms. Two cruisers and a handful of frigates shared the weight, their hulls ragged and scorched from the storm. A message is sent by Vorlam, now safely in orbit and spotting the Armada ships rising.

The Think Tank saw her expression go from ecstatic excitement to disbelief then shame as it informed her that Nekris had disappeared during the capture of the Zaeen.

I agree. One fucked up roll(short of maybe a 1) shouldent utterly kill a hero unit. Several fucked up,but not mediocre, rolls should kill one,but I think Nekris should be salvagable if permanently affected. Either way our ships should make an immediate trip towards Horizons drop and at the same time Jadyk heads towards them and they can meet half way. Get some blackscales too. I now its not a good quest without the risk of loss, but I will fight tooth and nail to avoid it because it wouldn't be a good quest if we couldn't potentially Mcguever our way out of a bad situation.

Ok...so lost in this situation could just mean we cant use him in the same way we couldnt Use the Wayword Disciple at first:we didnt know what the fuck happened to him. Either way, when Nekris gets back we are gonna have a long talk about how while a new bioship is always awesome, we could have another chance of getting this one later, while there will only ever be one Predator Nekris.

It's just that the way graves counts the rolls means that one out of every ten rolls is an auto failure with no chance of salvaging it that's really starting to drain the fun out of this for me. If he's that intent on punishing us why aren't we just rolling d10s? Because with the current system we have double the rate of critfails than we would have if we rolling d20s and ten fold the critfails than if we rolling d100s the way they were intended.

As Nekris had faced the might of the behemoth the Confederacy began to erupt with chaos.

Veraga Prime became a veritable hive of rumor and gossip as the interstellar communication networks went into sudden stand-by then showing repeated re-runs of their programs or only reporting on local news. Military police were seen mobilizing around the Parliament and Military High Command buildings. The Confederate Navy went into high alert, picket fleets mobilizing in orbit and throughout the system. It was a similar sight in systems such as Tarro and Erol, the small red dwarf in particular seeing the arrival of new ships.

The Wraithborn Cartel had postponed their meeting with Buddy and his crew, leaving them to languish in the docking port after a curfew had been enacted in their area. They either milled around the dock, similar to the crew of the other ships parked nearby, or were inside the Wick.

Clud had been out before curfew fell and it had taken him some time before he returned, night having fallen with the stars glittering above and the lights of naval ships streaking through the upper atmosphere. Somehow the large netu had avoided being stopped by the local PDF, the former pirate used to moving unseen in areas he was restricted, but now his calm demeanor was gone as he ran up to the Wick. Buddy and Eigha stood from the folding table they were playing a card game with the Legionnaires when he rushed up, his spiracles flaring as he panted. He waved off their questions by showing them a nondescript datastick stamped with "R.A." and they hurried inside.

A holographic image of yourself flickers into being in the main chamber of the Wick, the living giving short respectful bows. Clud waves the datastick, "I -reeeally- think you need to see this, Lord Jadyk," he says then slots it into a console.

A holoscreen was projected, showing the censored forms of the vorh and human hosts of the underground news network by the name of "Restricted Advice". The human, their face and voice distorted so heavily their age or gender was unknown with the screen only clearly showing their hands clasped before them, speaks "This is Restricted Advice, bringing you the news that Parliament and High Command don't want you to hear. As many of you know we have been following the events unfolding in the Refuge system where an undead outbreak has reached catastrophic levels by contaminating multiple worlds and moons.

"Previously we've shown footage shot by survivors of the crisis showing that an unknown faction has taken upon themselves join the often misunderstood Pirate Clans to rescue those abandoned by the Confederacy," they say and footage you had already seen of Coffins bombarding zombie swarms and Necrolytes rescuing survivors or fighting side-by-side with them and Pirates.

>cont
>>
>>1380083
The screen flickers back to the anchors and it was the vorhs turn to speak, "The identity of these would-be "heroes" were unknown, their initial arrival accompanied with a proclamation stating their intent to rescue the living still trapped in Refuge while avoiding announcing their allegiance or even their names," A small voiceclip plays of the Necrolyte Commanders announcement when the Armada had originally arrived in Refuge.

"Reports from within Refuge stated that the members of this liberation force merely went by the name of Legionnaires, their identities hidden despite the efforts of the survivors to thank their saviors. Shockingly, these soldiers were of an extremely varied background. Among their numbers reports have stated that humans, vorh, netu, kesh, osjiic and even members of the Ahkam vassal races such as epikor, kosda, and esat were present along with reports of an unknown alien race serving alongside them.

"Every major race of the Curou sector has been seen fighting in this strange army without a name. Even stranger are the reports of what were originally believed to be synthetic or mechanical humanoid drones bolstering their numbers," as the vorh spoke pictures showing various members of the Necrolyte Legion were shown, proving their claim of the mixed races along with several highlighting the strange shapes of the Stonestar, the race unknown to most of the galaxy.

The human host speaks when the vorh falls silent to take a drink from a glass of water, "Despite their secrecy, two interstellar days ago this liberation force made an announcement to the people of Refuge and likely intended it for the rest of the galaxy to hear. This footage was recorded from the planet Scatters in the Refuge system and site of a heavy undead infestation while the voice you will be hearing was broadcast across numerous channels and airwaves," the human nods to someone off-camera and the screen switches to a simple 2D screen.

It was a similar shot as the previous broadcast where a Refuge survivor was standing on top of a tall building overlooking the swarm of undead that threatened to wash over the shanty town like a tide of teeth and claws. Whoever was recording was mumbling in disbelief at the sight only for them to fall silent as a familiar voice begins to speak in the galactic trade language, a pidgin of various languages that had accumulated over the ages.

>cont
>>
>>1380091
"Scatters will long be scarred by these events. It's surface and it's moon will tell a tale of brutality and insane cruelty. These scenes are repeated throughout Refuge, this aptly named system under siege," it says, "It is up to the Necrotic Armada to bring an end to these atrocities, to rescue the people of this system. Those that have fled and gathered here are survivors, glorious strugglers who have fought for their right to life and they have my utmost respect for their strength. We of the Armada have come to ensure this right is no longer hindered.

"By the light of the Wormstar and the blood of its faithful, salvation has come for you, beautiful strugglers. Fear not, for your terrors and pains have called out and the Armada has come to answer your pleas where all others have been silent. By the will of the Wormstar, Life shall continue," the voice falls silent, replaced by the confused words of the survivors. The camera swings around to show a group of the Legionnaires standing nearby as they spoke in hushed tones to each other before noticing the locals staring at them.

The Legionnaires were motioned toward them then paused as they received unheard orders. Several look up at the sky in shock while the other begin shouting for everyone to take cover in a hurried tone. The camera sways as the recorder dashes into the building then goes blank.

The footage switches to another camera still outside, likely another recording discovered by their journalists, and the camera stared up at the night sky, stars hidden by the smoke of countless fires. The camera jerks slightly to focus on a blazing ball of fire that plummeted through the sky, bursts of light erupting from it as it clearly changed it course. The cameraman ducks down moments before it strikes the earth and there was a rush of wind and explosive sound.

Moments later the camera lifts up over the wall they had dove behind to show a distant shining form rise up from the newly formed crater in the midst of the sea of undead. Illuminator Tlacex, their form glimmering and indistinct as hard-light armor forms around him, makes his finaly proclamation and charges into battle with the massive form of his juggermaut mounts unleashing great blasts of Void energy.

The footage cuts out with one last scene of Tlacex sailing over the heads of undead unleashing a devastating barrage of necrotic and hard-light attacks. The pair of anchors appeared and they glance at each other for a moment then the vorh speaks up, "As hard as it is to swallow, it is the opinion of those here at Restricted Advice that this new force is as they so dramatically proclaimed. This is the Necrotic Armada that we grew up hearing horror and ghost stories of, the Armada that left worlds barren and shattered for millennia, the scars of the Necrotic War still present despite this vast sea of time."

>cont
>>
>>1380095
The human was the next to speak, "If what they proclaim to be true is in fact true, what does this mean for the state of our sector, of the entire Galaxy? The threat of undead attack has always been an ever-present fear, from feral undead to plague outbreaks like in Refuge to the impossible encounters with the Wraiths. Cultures have been shaped and erased because of the effects of the Necrotic Armada even after their eventual defeat by the original Alliance, the predecessor to the Confederacy.

"If what this force proclaims is true, then we must decide how we are going to react to this as a galaxy. There are also many questions that have arisen that need answering. Why has the Necrotic Armada stepped in to rescue the living despite their former goals of consuming all life? Why has Confederate High Command and Parliament not informed the public of this potential threat?" the human says, their intent hard to discern through the distortion.

The vorh jabs the table with a finger and leans toward the camera, "We do not have all the facts yet but we here at Restricted Advice will continue to cover this monumental occasion as more info is gained. And this is a personal plea, from a citizen of the galaxy and a concerned sapient being, to the Necrotic Armada, save the people of Refuge."

The program moves into other topics concerning local corruption on Veraga Prime, including a small report of a new drug sweeping the streets.

Buddy turns to your image where you had barely moved during the broadcast. The human gives a small grin, "Looks like things are going to get interesting, Lord Jadyk."

"Indeed, it looks that way," you say then thank Clud for bringing you the news before the hologram cuts out.

Okay that'll be all for tonight. We'll wrap up the thread tomorrow with the Commander and Jor's mission on Spindles moon.

Hope folks had fun, I know I did writing it.

Sorry about Nekris, somethings are just really hard to dodge and one of those things just happened to be a starship sized spacewhale.

I'll be up to answer questions if folks have any that aren't too spoiler heavy.

Graves. I think we need to have a serious talk about your dice rolling mechanics.
>>
>>1380141
Let me just say it's more like a 1-in-20 chance since lately I've only really been counting rolls 5 and below as having unpredictable results.

From 2-5 isn't a failure if the highest roll meets the DC I set behind the scenes, they are just an indicator that not everything went as planned but you'll see if you go back and look, that they were still successes.

Now if the highest roll doesn't make the DC then yeah, it's a failed roll.

I will be the first to admit that this isn't a very sophisticated system.

Also if you think I'm harsh with rolls, you never played in a SlowCM Civ or whoever it was that ran the oooold Dwarf Civ
>>
>>1380147
Question, If there are pieces of him left over can't we...rebuild him? Or put his old memories into a new body?
>>
>>1380153
Up until this point none of the unique minded undead of the Armada have fallen, not even a Disciple, showing how lucky they normally are.

Jadyk believes that once true death comes, that without a phylactery or other means of artificially storing their minds/souls, an intelligent undead would meet the true death. This includes him, Ruscuc, or any of the Generals.

Phylacteries were fairly common among the undead of the old Armada as a fail-safe during battle although most undead entities could only utilize this feature once or twice before future phylacteries would begin to fail. A phylactery requires a portion of an entities soul and power to be sealed within it.

Jadyk's phylactery was used to regenerate him within his tomb after his defeat at the hands of the Crystal Wasps High Warleader. It is unknown to Jadyk if Ruscuv has used her phylactery before she fossilized herself or if she still possesses it.
>>
>>1380164
well now we have a reason to re-instate Phylactieres.
>>
>>1380164
>phylactery requires a portion of an entities soul and power to be sealed within it.

Um, did Nekris' soulbound sword Blight go down with him? Or did he leave it behind in the Arc Temple since I see no mention of it on this trip
>>
>>1380147
>when you're pulled away from a discussion half way through to make dinner
If you want to put a failure rate of 1 in 20, why don't you just have us roll d20s? It would make far more sense and would be far less convoluted then this current system. Hell, at least then we would have an equal chance of a crit success instead of a 1 in 100 probability, and this bizzare system of a 90+ roll canceling out rolls under 10 if high enough. That just feels like a way to cancel out our crit successes than as a backup against failure.

And don't attribute Slow's harshness to this quest. This quest has a totally different pacing and plot structure than anything I'm aware of Slow ever doing. For one thing this quest really can't be called a civ anymore as you've cored out nearly all civ style mechanics from it. Losing named characters or other irreplacable things is so much worse than in a proper civ because we as players have far less control over what happens in the setting or how the Armada expands.

Its just a lot of us were hoping that one failed roll would fuck him up bad, but not outright kill him, shot of a 1. The worse the following rolls are, the greater the chance of death. Either way I think we need to have a conference call with our generals about gauging the worth of their lives.
>>
>>1380164
Of all things, nekris vanishes on hunting trip. No epic last stand, no battle, swallowed or crushed by a giant space fish. Fuck. Well grave, I love the quest. I will keep on coming back. Thanks for running.

So I'm debating whether or not to wrap up the thread with the mission on Spindles moon or set that up as a .2 thread on Saturday since a lot of Happenings have happened this thread and don't want to burn out people for an important story mission
>>
>>1380913
The osjic do power their big ships with the remains of their most powerful Void users, and if we tried it with a bioship...
Still hoping we can recover him though.
>>
>>1381239
As long as the wild ride on Saturday lasts a while I can wait.
>>
>>1381239

Set it up as a .2 thread. Give people a few days to calm down.
And give you a few days to think about how to bring Nekris back if you don't already have an idea. Salty anon isn't the only one annoyed about how you handle 'crit' fails.
>>
>>1381239
Eh, start the next thread with the best buddy cop pair ever.

I'm not SUPER salty, but if Nekris is really gone forever, we better name that fucking space whale bioship after him. The Arc Hunter or something. Maybe commemorate him with a bigass statue in our capital, and make sure he looks good.
>>
>>1381259
Nekris is definitely getting another statue in the Garden of Remembrance for sure.

He's already got at least two in there
>>
>>1381260
He needs an actual memorial or monument, not just another statue.

Something classy, like an art museum or naming the Colosseum on Rukor after him.
>>
>>1381260
Could we actually try that empowered bioship idea? I know its a long-shot but I like the idea enough.
>>
>>1381272
We DO have the Arc Drive now, and depending on what kind of weapons and armor we want to give it, it could be exactly the kind of battering ram we'd want to initiate large scale battles.

Alternatively, it could become a massive destroyer/carrier with the armor and speed to unleash swarms of Nails right up in the enemies faces like an angry beehive before blinking back out.
>>
>>1381308
What I meant was using Nekris' body combined with the arc drives to power the new bioship and,who knows, a small bit of Nekris' personality could emerge.See>>1380913
>>
>>1381315
Ah, okay. I still want to try to recover our boy, and I'm not sure how successful it'll be, but we can try.
> We're turning an undead into a friggin' space Dreadnought with lightning guns.
> Even in Death I still Serve...Oh, wait.

Also, this sets a bit of a precedence for our Generals and elites; you can't be certain they're 100% dead until they've been completely vaporized, and even then a little bit of them could continue on in their relics and in the Arc/Void/Necrotic/Solar.
>>
>>1381334
BIngo. While if we leave Nekris to die there wont as much left of him as Ghul since Ghul had a patron, if Nekris's body, with its damaged but relatively intact brain(space whale was massive, but its weight was spread out because of its size and probably also a bit more light in order to give it its flexibility, plus Nekris might have been only partially crushed between two scales and the ground instead of one scale) we could rebuild him into something new but not to the same degree as Reconstruction.
>>
>>1381251
About bringing him back.
One word
Masked

Or just let him die and become the Saint of the power ark, and forever be the ghost in the machines of the armada

Come to think of it could an ark user be super good at controlling electronics?
>>
>>1381347
It's weird, the description of the behemoth's final attack doesn't tell us how EXACTLY Nekris was destroyed.

So, I myself cannot tell whether he was crunched by the ram-head of the beast, swallowed, or simply thrown away into the storm. I also choose to believe that this means he can be recovered in some fashion and possibly reborn, though perhaps with a loss of power and personality. I'd much rather that Nekris have to go through a reboot and start from square one than lose him forever.

>>1381386
Very true. He could be reborn within the Arc and troll EVERYONE. No one will be spared.
>>
>>1381398
I just hope the Graves will give us the chance. Its true that it wouldn't be a good quest if we didnt fuck up every once-in-a-while,but it also wouldn't be a good quest if we couldn't make the most of what we have and make some good from it if we are clever enough.
>>
>>1380147

To be fair Graves, pointing at a worse rolling system doesn't mean yours isn't still shitty when there's no equal and opposite 96-99 'something unexpectedly good happens' to counterbalance.
>>
>>1381558
I thought there was, it's usually that things go better than expected, but that doesn't stand out in our memories as much so they seem few and far between
>>
>>1381558

It took two years for a named character to die, with your "1-in-10" they should all have been dead ten times over.
>>
Holy shit are you guys overreacting. The language was explicitly that Nekris "dissapeared", there's no way a heroic unit would raw die without significant preamble.

While listed as lost so was the disciple initially. He could survive in the vacuum of apace ffs, what could have happened to him to elicit true death.
>>
>>1383730
Lost:
>Predator Nekris

Lost, not missing.
>>
>>1383745
The space whale was big so the weight on Nekris would be less. Taking into account that the scales of the beast could make a niche that could alleviate even more pressure, I think e could survive. Remember that after his duel with The Butcher, he practically lost half his body.
>>
As one of the mildly upset posters, I still don't expect him to actually be dead. This is a good piece of media, and I am letting it guide me and make me feel feelings. I refuse to think hard about it, because this is like a very good book for me and I want those ups and downs.
>>
I vote we build a massive net and trawl the gas giant for Nekris.

Also; Last post?
>>
Just realized that even if Grave had already planned for Nekris to come back somehow, it will just look like the super salty anon who had the high roll and wouldn't shut up about how awful Grave is will be why he came back.

Now I kinda want Nekris to be dead just because otherwise it means similar shitty anons will think complaining will have a influence on the quest rather than let Grave run it
>>
>>1389726
To be fair,we DO have an influence on the quest aside from roles:we decide what we actually do and we can argue our case with the QM, such as people saying how Nekris could have survived. In other quests anons could analyze an enemy and,by using laws of physics, common sense and intuition, take an action or point something out that gives them an advantage. If Graves already planned to to bring him back/was never dead, then no matter. If he did die or is not recoverable, we could always try to argue with him, but he always has final say.
>>
>>1389726
Ugh, I hate that thought. Honestly, I super hope that Nekris is alive cus he is so fucking boss. But I'd hate to have him come back just cus of salty anons
>>
>>1392161
Better than having him die just because of one shit roll that wasn't even a critfail.
>>
>>1392987
Eh...
>>
>>1392987
If it was a crit, id be mad as fuck, but I could accept that he was gone. Anything less, then I would want a chance for him to survive, especially since we didn't have that many rolls for that event.

That's pretty fucking rad.
