Space war time.
>>
Previously, Alana consolidated her task force and had a brief but noteworthy encounter with some Dark Jedi. Ultimately, her ships rendezvoused with the fleet gathering in the Dark heart of the galaxy, Byss. Alana of course, even her entire task force, is just another pawn in Palpatine's bid to return the Galaxy into his hands. Only a matter of weeks has passed since we last were with Palpatine.

At this point, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and the newly completed 4th fleet are assembled in orbit along with the three Super Star Destroyer task force that is centered on your flagship, Tarkin. This leaves only a skeleton defense force to guard your holdings, but all is proceeding according to plan.

Operation Darklight, the conquest or liberation of Coruscant is on the eve of execution. Mara has been training in the art of lightsaber combat with Sedriss and your Dark Side Elite. The Shadow Droid Project has reached its zenith and is ready for combat testing.

With so many separate issues on your mind, it falls to you to determine the best order to approach them.

>The Dark Side always takes priority, we can handle the military campaign afterward

Without an empire worth ruling, it makes little sense having a strong apprentice. The force will have to wait. In that case, there remains one more question about Darklight before it can potentially be executed. Who will oversee the fleet?

This is not a situation you can leave to your subordinates. You will oversee the attack personally aboard your throne room onboard your Flagship, Tarkin. Let Zahn make combat decisions, but you will be on hand should your presence be required.

For the time being, Mara, the Dark Side Elite, and your Byss Mages will have to be enough, the time has come for your emergence from the Deep Core, Coruscant is the target.

Former Intelligence Director Ysanne Isard, one of your most loyal followers in the past now rules over a coalition of warlords centered on Coruscant itself. Previously, you had entertained the notion of accepting Isard back into your Dark Empire as the Grand Vizier, the person most responsible for the day-today operation of the Empire. In order to make this dream a reality, your presence must be revealed to her, for as far as Isard knows, all that is in the Deep Core is Executor Sedriss and a small handful of warships.

The long awaited moment. Even now, your fleet is jumping ever closer to Corsucant, soon they will be unstoppable. The shipyards at Foreost are the last stop between they leave your territory and enter Isard's. Not enough time for Isard to mount anything more than a last-minute defense should it come down to it.

You are seated on your throne aboard Tarkin, isolated from most of the military activity on the ship. Beside you, your apprentice-in-training, the Emperor's Hand, Mara Jade.

The two of you wait, staring patiently at a holopad on the floor in front of you as your aides work to connect you with Isard directly.

Suddenly, a lifesize hologram of Yssane Isard herself flickers to life, wearing an unadorned, Crimson admiral's uniform. "Yes, Sedriss, what-" she pulls herself short, her eyes flicking across you and Mara in a struggle for recognition. "Well," she says, her eyes narrowing, "The Emperor's Hand. I see you've found employ with some of Palpatine's other pet projects." She looks to you next, raising a quizzical eyebrow. "And who are you?

"Reborn Emperor," Mara said, "He's come back to us. Not even death can stop him."

Isard blinks a moment, "Obviously I'll need some kind of proof of this."

"Did I join you?" Mara asks like she's speaking to a child. "I'm sworn to him alone. I can tell the difference."

Isard scoffs, "You'll have to forgive me if I don't take the word of an assassin at face value." Isard turns to you. "Perhaps if we were to have access to a genetic sample that could be independently verified with his senate records."

"So you can have your goons fiddle with the test?" Mara interjects.

You flick a switch on the arm of your throne, "Admiral Zahn? Execute Operation Darklight."

The original plan as conceived by Executor Sedriss is to strike at Coruscant with rapidity and force, destroying any orbital defenses and cowing the planet into surrendering through either through terror, or through triumphantly revealing yourself without a single hostile boot having to touch the surface, leaving Imperial Center intact.

>Trust in Sedriss's plan, for his sake, it had better work
>We will conquer through shock and awe alone. revelation of my survival won't be needed.
>A final effort will be made to turn Isard's forces against her (Reveal your presence to them before the attack)

Of course, a contingency plan couldn't hurt either. Should our primary plan fail, what is the backup plan?

>The fools will see my TRUE power (Force storm to disable the planetary shields and soften up Isard's fleet)
>Prepare to besiege the planet
>We will show no mercy, bombard the shields and invade the planet.

Making a final effort to turn Isard's supporters by revealing yourself has it, but the contingency is tied up between two options. I'll narrow down the options and ask for a second vote.

Should Admiral Zahn and your navy run into a situation they cannot deal with, the power of the Dark Side will have to overcome.

You and Mara Jade wait in the throne room as Tarkin jumps to hyperspace to Foerost, on the last leg of its journey to Coruscant.

With the Reborn Emperor's battle plans in motion, we will go to Alana Tyrna and follow her participation in the unfolding battle.

You stand on the bridge of the Victory-II Class Star Destroyer Splinter, the flagship of your small contingent of warships, all around you the massed power of the Empire, Star Destroyers, cruisers, Tie fighters. But all you can think about is you brief meeting with the Darksiders from the Revanant-Class cruisers you are escorting.

Ap-Llewff had said, I can sense that you are a strong, loyal servant of the Emperor. You long for order and justice in this galaxy. At the time, you'd told him this was true. But was it? You knew that Force users had the power to influence other people's thinking, and you had spent so long just 'doing your job' you hadn't asked yourself why you fought for Sedriss and the Empire.

No, of course those were your own thoughts. You'd seen first had the destruction wrought by the selfishness of rebellion and the greed of warlords. Under the old Empire, there was peace, safety, people's lives had purpose. You had seen that as well, the good times as a young girl on Byss, then a forgotten outpost of Imperial government. Although . . .

Even now you co8uld feel the electric tingle of your skin that day in orbit of Endor's forest moon as death flew around you, every shudder of the ship you imagined was the killing blow, a rebel bomber had broken its spine and soon you would only taste vacuum. But somehow you had made it out alive.

You thought of Hemei IV when you stared down defeat from the bridge of Scylla.

Yes, there was no point denying your nature, war excited you. Though you suspected you could life well enough without it.

"Captain Tyrna?" Tierce repeats.

"Yes, lieutenant, what is it?" you ask, trying not to sound irritated with him. After you had reprimanded him for his behavior with the Dark Siders, he seems more cautious around you, almost wary.

"I want to finalize our Tie deployments before we leave Foerost." Tierce couldn't say go to Coruscant though at this point, the target of Operation Darklight was obvious.

"Yes, of course."

"I had given though to giving Lieutenant Vells entire squadron Interceptors and splitting the twelve bombers over the three carrier ships, four on each."

"That will do fine," you say with a wave of your hand, "Thank you, lieutenant."

"Ma'am," he salutes and marches away.

The task force you helm is currently "waiting in the wings" of the fleet. Just a small part of a tremendous organism you had thought died at Endor. Ordinarily, ships such as yours would barely register on a battle plan, you might even just be filed under "additional escorts" in the order of battle. But in this case, you have a special charge.

A glance to starboard shows you what exactly that special charge is. Three, boxy, black cruisers that seem so out of place in comparison with the rest of the fleet. On your sensors they register as "Revenant-Class carriers, but you've seen their technical name.

Revanant-Class Carrier and Medical Reclamation Cruiser.

Their cargo of fighters were on schematics called "Shadow Droids". But what sort of droids needed Dark Side Adepts as handlers and listed "Nutrient fluid" on their design specifications?

No, you shook your head. You'd promised you wouldn't spend any more thought on such things. The development of new weapons was not your concern, using them correctly was. You needed to keep your mind on the battle ahead, not the implied consequence of failure from your meeting with the three Dark Siders who helmed the Revenants.

"Captain, we've received the final jump coordinates," your comms officer reports.

"Very good, confirm all stations ready for final hypserspace jump," you say, your words sounding natural, despite the rolling fear you feel in your gut.

"Confirmation received," Tierce says from a crew pit nearby.

"Commence jump to hyperspace upon the signal from the command ship," you reply, pacing quickly to the front of the bridge, staring out into the inky blackness of space.

"Signal received!"

"Jumping!"

All around you, the starts stretch to lines before collapsing into a blue swirl of hypermatter. Next stop.

Coruscant.

(1/?)
>>
Splinter emerges from hyperspace on the edge of Coruscant's gravity well, one of dozens, even hundreds as the combined Deep Core fleet assembles.

AS this is a surprise attack, no preliminary scouting was done, the whole attack relies solely on the fact that Isard did not consider Sedriss's forces in the Deep Core to be a threat.

It seemed to prove a fatal oversight.

Ahead of you, Coruscant gleams, every bit as bright as you remembered, a planet-wide city glittering in the dark. Above it, the defense fleet, pitifully small. Three Imperial-Class Star Destroyers, two Victory-class, and their associated support and escort craft.

They face down well over one hundred warships, of which over a dozen were Star Destroyers, and three even qualified as Super Star Destroyers.

You smile, Isard doesn't stand a chance.

"Fleet-wide broadcast coming in, ma'am."

"Put it through," you say, curiosity tinging your voice. You weren't aware Zahn was one for dramatic, last minute speeches.

"Citizens and soldiers of the Empire," a voice begins, regal, commanding, unfamiliar to you but somehow . . . "Today is a day that shall be long remembered, the day the miraculous happened. The day that your Emperor returned to you."

On Splinter, crewmen look to one another in confusion, and then to you, your captain for guidance.

"Who's broadcasting?" you demand.

"It's coming from the flagship, ma'am!" your comms officer protests, "It's from the Tarkin!"

"Thanks to the loyal support of my Executor, Sedriss, and countless officers and officials, I have overcome death itself. The explanation of my resurrection and return will take time to explain and understand, but rest assured, I have come back to you"

You . . . Don't know what to make of it. The Emperor? Reborn? You fall back on the only thign you can, military professionalism. "Back to your posts!" you snap, "We're here to fight a war."

It's obvious that the enemy fleet doesn't quite know what to make of it either, there is no concerted response.

"Ma'am, one of the enemy star destroyers has changed its transponder codes to match our own, it's reporting as friendly!" Your sensor officer reports.

True to its name, the Star Destroyer Emperor's Will has seemingly switched sides. None of its fellow ships fire on it, clearly whatever is happening, ruse or proclamation, is having some kind of effect.

"Captain, hypserspace contacts emerging starboard!"

With all of your forces assembled here and no plan for reinforcement this can only mean that they aren't friendly.

Blue-white flashes at the edge of the system reveal arriving ships. Star Destroyers, lots of them, perhaps two fleets worth. Someone had warned Isard beforehand it seemed and she had summoned reinforcement for Coruscant, or perhaps you had been extremely unlucky.

Once the flashing of hyper arrivals seems to stop, there is one more. Executor-Class.

"It's Guardian!" your sensor operator reports.

This didn't bode well.

"This is Admiral Blitzer Harssk, all Imperial-allied ships are ordered to fire upon that Imposter fleet!"

Harssk has brought with him an additional six Imperial-Class, three Victories, and their escorts. And of course, the Super Star Destroyer Guardian.

On board the Tarkin, you sit in your throne, glowering as your plans are thrown their first major obstacle.

"Isard knew we were coming," Mara says, stating the obvious.

In a head-to-head engagement, you still held a significant numbers advantage, and the enemy force was split.

Alternatively, if the Tarkin is like the Eclipse-class from Legends and has a mini-superlaser, using it on the Guardian would be quite the show of power.

You click on the transmitter on your throne, "Admiral Harssk, you served me well at Endor. Don't throw away years of service and loyalty to your emperor of a matter of petty allegiances."

By now, you see chaotic transponder changing across the enemy fleet, some ships are heeding your warning already, but only among the Coruscant garrison. You take note of those who have turned early, of course their loyalty should be rewarded.

"Whoever you are," Harssk replies, "You are a fool," he chuckles madly. "Palpatine is dead and I say, good riddance to him. Everyone knew the old fool was mad! The galaxy is better off without him, and it will be better off without you too." He kills the transmission.

"Arrogant bastard," Mara says.

"Perhaps a display of power," you muse.

"Take note of this Mara," You saym standing from your throne and approaching the broad viewport that frames Harssk's forces. "This fool has found himself a large toy," you say, concentrating your focus and hate, feeling the rolling, boiling energy of the force concentrating behind Harssk's fleet. "Inside that armored coffin he feels safe, but he knows nothing of the power, of the Dark Side."

Flashes of electrical energy appear behind the enemy star destroyers, growing in size an intensity. Soon enough, a tremendous force storm has been formed behind the enemy fleet and, through the force of your willpower, is dragged forward, sucking in ships and fighters and tearing them apart. The flashes of lightning are punctuated with the orange-red fireballs of vessels and torpedoes exploding.

You grit your teeth, fighting to hold control of such tremendous destructive power.

The storm reaches the reader of his flagship, Guardian, drawing it backward into oblivion. You just barely feel the life you'd identify as Harssk's get snuffed out in the churning energy of the storm before you are forced to relent from fatigue. The storm fades and dies, a few last cascades of energy wash over some surviving destroyers. Harssk is dead, the Guardian is torn in half, and only a few ships remain.

"A fraction of my power," you say. "Such is the fate of any who oppose me." even as you speak, you feel exhaustion setting in. Such a display of raw power, as imposing as it is, has its consequences and draw backs. Summoning such power again in a short time will be difficult.

Surrender reports begin rolling in from stricken warships and panicked crews, still others turn and begin making top speed for the hyper limit, hoping to escape your wrath. It seems Harssk was right on one count, that some people did not welcome the return of the Emperor.

It seemed Isard's bid to hold power on Coruscant had failed. Harssk may have been loyal to her, or at any rate, to himself, but he was not match for your power.

The confused situation in orbit of Coruscant finally erupts with an Isard-loyal Star Destroyer, Invader, delivering a close range broadside to Emperor's Will. Both ships continue trading shots and dogfights rapidly break out between the defenders as those who are loyal to their emperor, turn on those who are not.

Now that battle is jointed, it's obvious who falls on which side, though your fleet is entirely unengaged and your enemies are thoroughly decimated. Any resistance is merely forestalling the inevitable.

All you could do was gape at the destruction of Admiral Harssk's fleet from the bridge of Splinter. Seeing the once proud warship, Gaurdian torn in two by some sort of anomalous storm was almost more than you could bear.

This man, whoever was calling the shots for Sedriss and his faction . . . Somehow he must truly be the Emperor Reborn.

"Captain Tyrna. Admiral Zahn is ordering the task force forward to pursue the withdrawing ships."

You clear your head. The rules of the game may have changed, but the objective is the same. You're a soldier with a job to do. You have to destroy the enemy, not to mention you still need to test the Shadow Droids.

Withdrawing ahead of you, the remains of Harssks' fleet, you spy a pair of Imperial-Class Star destroyers peeling away from the other ships in the confusion, burning hard for the hyperlimit.

At this rate, it may be impossible to catch them using your capital ships.

"Have the Revenant's launch their Shadow Droid compliments, this might be our only chance to test them," you say.

Within moments, the strange cruisers disgorge their deadly cargo. The sleek, black forms of the Shadow Droids rocket out of the carriers and form up, thirty six fighters in all, and make for the fleeing cruisers, with your task force and fighters in close pursuit.

Your Tie/LNs don't have the raw acceleration to keep up, but your Tie/Ins are able to stay close behind them.

The interceptor squadron's audio is patched into your bridge coms. "Vells here, Captain. We're keeping pace with these Droids, but by the Force they fly well for droids!"

You say nothing.

"Entering combat range now, the two cruisers, identified as Dismay and Craven are releasing fighter escorts doubling back on us, should we help the droids?" Vells asks.

"Wait for the rest of the wing and then engage in support," you reply, barely hearing Vells confirm your order before you add, for the comm officer's benefit. "Order Macabre to push ahead and provide anti-fighter cover for them."

No sooner is the order given than you see the enemy force seems to have found some sort of command cohesion, the two star destroyers are coming about, revealing a lone Carrack cruiser hiding in the sensor blind spot on the other side of them. They think they've caught easy prey, a Victory and escorts versus two Imperial-Class star destroyers. Twelve whole squadrons of Tie Fighters are closing on the Shadow Droids and your own fighter compliment.

"Uh, Captain, they're coming about, Emperor's Bones that's a lot of them . . . " Vells says

"Hold for reinforcements," you order, eyes flicking from the sensor readouts up the viewport where you see the first flashes of laser fire.

The Shadow Droids hit the cloud of enemy Tie fighters in a flurry of weapons fire and maneuvering, leaving clouds of debris in their wake. The carnage is incredible and you can't help but marvel at the skill and precision of these new fighters. Even so, numbers tell. For every five fighters a Shadow Droid kills, one is destroyed, not just by the enemy fighters, but by point defense fire on the Star Destroyers and the Carrack cruiser. Five to one would be an acceptable casualty rate were it not for the capital ship fire thinning their ranks.

"The rest of the wing is here, we're engaging!" Vells says over comm.

"Best of luck, Lieutenant," you reply.

The fighters now have parity, in numbers if not skill, the Shadow droids and now your interceptors are a huge tipping point, but losses are still incurred, you watch a pair of Tie/Lns and an interceptor get shredded by laser fire from the Carrack passing through the center of the fighter engagement.

Now Macabre is entering combat range, but finds itself a target for the guns of the Star Destroyers. A pair of turbolaser strikes splash on her deflector shields, but a Raider can't withstand much of that sort of punishment.

At the same time, you are entering gun range of the enemy ships.

Turbolaser batteries on Splinter swing into action, pumping deadly emerald lances across the void of space, through the boiling cloud of fighters, and into the Carrack. It erupts into a fireball at approximately the same time as Macabre, lanced through with laser fire from one of the Star Destroyers.

The Raider dies so quickly, no one had time to make it to the escape pods.

Now, the enemy star destroyers are passing through the fighter cloud and continuing toward your ship, firing on Praetor and Scylla, neither of which will likely be able to stand up long to that sort of punishment.

"Launch the bombers and have them target Craven," you say, "and order the Shadow Droids to change priority from fighters to capital ships!"

Splinter's guns are firing as fast as they can cool, turbolaser fire striking Craven's shields harmlessly.

To your starboard, Scylla's shields are faltering and you see several lasers punch through the shield and strike her hull, boiling away around and rending holes into the compartments within. You don't dwell on the loss of life, instead, willing death on the enemy.

A similarly deadly garden of fireballs blossoms across Craven as your fighters conduct strafing runs and attack key points on the ship. A particularly effective salvo from the Shadow Droids knocks out the main thrusters for the enemy warship.

It's clear at this point that you’re locked in a life or death struggle, the tipping point is close at hand and it remains to see who will "blink" first.

Why the fuck did we send the Macabre in there like that? It's purpose is to protect cruisers from dog fighters not to protect TIEs from TIEs. And only one person voted for it.

Where the hell is the rest of our fleet? There is no way our small task force should be taking on two ISDs.

We may also want to order the carriers to withdraw slightly, thereby ensuring that they stay out of the fray.
>>
>>1392656
>Where the hell is the rest of our fleet?

I don't know, but there's no fun if it's a complete stomp. Maybe Palpy's going to fire his super laser and one shot one of the ISD's?

I'm honestly not sure what their game plan is. Fighting the fleet we have just 2 star destroyers is begging to get destroyed, especially after they just watched their SSD get taken out by a force storm. If the enemy had any brains they probably should have run when they had the chance.
>>
>>1392760
I imagine our engagement here is just a small fraction of the wider battle that is going on all around us. Or something like that.

As for why these 2 star destroyers are still fighting? I imagine they must think they've crossed a point of no return by choosing to fight against us. They likely think there's no chance of mercy from the Emperor now, so they choose to fight back with everything they've got.
>>
>>1392937
But even that doesn't make any sense. We've won this battle, quite decisively too.

Do they think that'll be able to take on our entire fleet? They would have had a better chance retreating and joining Thrawn or another Imperial splinter faction.

No, but two fleeting ISDs realized they only had a Victory and escorts pursuing them and figured "well, this should be an easy win, then we can bug out." Came about with intent of smashing your ships and running. Didn't count on the Shadow Droids evening the odds so quickly.

The rest of the fleet is Around(Tm) engaging boarding actions, mop up, rescue operations, etc.

I decided to try to give you more to do than watching all of this from the center of a one hundred ship armada. So somehow you ended up on the front edge of the fleet, somewhere behind you are reinforcements. You've bitten off a fairly large chunk of trouble, but withdrawal is always an option if you feel outmatched, as is calling for help.

After losing the Macabre, I'd hate to have to pull out and let these two ISDs escape. I say we try to tough it out in the hopes that we can overwhelm them with our star fighters.

God dammit i fall asleep during the thread. We lost the Macabre....Well guess it was a good idea transfering her old captain to the Scylla.
>>
>>1393510
About that... The Scylla's shields are down and is taking fire from one of the ISDs. Needless to say, we'll lose it fast if we don't cover for it or knock out the ISD.
>>
>>1393778
Right now we're taking full hits from 2 ISD's.

If we pull to the side of one of them we can reduce the volume of incoming fire by 75% (since one of the ISD's will block the other one. I vote we have Scylla pull back and send our own ship along the side of one of the star destroyers at point blank range to cover.
Then we have the fighters concentrate their fire on the ISD we're using for cover to take it out quickly, and we can shoot out from behind and engage the other ISD from the rear.
>>
>>1393801
Why not make the bombers blow up the ISD shirld genarator and have the TIEs and Shadow droids strip their weapons? We can then cripple two ISD and after the fight board it and take it to our forces. This will be also the perfect time to test the Dark troopers.

HelloThere.ObiWan

It's Dark Empire time. Sad to say I go back to work starting tomorrow so this is likely the end of these epic six hour long gaming sessions until maybe next weekend. I still plan on running a daily game, but just not nearly as long. Like maybe 3 hours?

To follow all updates (with great interest)

Previously, Splinter and her escorts were facing down an overzealous pair of Imperial-Class Star Destroyers. With the aid of the new Shadow Droids, Alana had managed to even the odds somewhat, you destroyed an enemy Carrack, lost Macabre, crippled the engines of one of the cruisers, Craven, but your Strike cruiser Scylla's shields are faltering under the barrage.

Ostensibly, this battle was to be a test of the Shadow Droids capabilities, as much as it was your emperor's command to hunt down the fleeing traitors. Unfortunately in this case, the hunter has become the hunted.

"Scylla is falling back behind us, Ma'am!" your tactical officer calls, "Captain Tyvek reports serious strain on the ship's reactor and electrical systems."

Ahead of you, the two deadly wedges are looming, bearing down on you, emerald laser fire leaping toward your task force, your return fire not quite as impressive. Despite the menacing display of force, you know these two Star Destroyers aren't indestructible, Craven is being repeatedly torpedoed by your Tie Bombers as well as the mysterious Shadow Droids, her main thrusters are offline, and surely it can't withstand much more punishment from either Splinter or Praetor.
This is a crucial moment in the battle, and your options really all boil down to a single basic fork. Before you can determine what to do next you have to decide if you will "blink" or not.

"We can't withstand much more of this," you growl, hands clenched in useless rage, "I'll be damned if I see my task force destroyed for nothing." The only two ways you can think of to try to escape the world of hurt coming down on you are to run, or call for help. Neither is an ideal situation, but it would be more ideal than losing your task force.

"Where in the Emperor's name is the rest of the fleet!?" you demand of Lieutenant Tierce.

"Dauntless is recovering survivors from Harssk's fleet," your XO replies, reading from a display, heedless to the chaos around him, "If we request they divert, they could arrive in minutes."

"Do it," you say, only hoping you have minutes to spare.

The enemy Ties seem like they've had enough, and they ease off your fighters when they withdraw, the Shadow Droids are holding well, though they are closer to half their number at this point.

With Scylla safely behind your ship, and Praetor partially screened by Macabre, both star destroyers turn their remaining guns on your flagship.

I only just stumbled across this, but Pestage was one of Palpatine's best long-time followers.

Speaking of Palpatine's Republic entourage, whatever happened to Mas Amedda and Sly Moore? I would guess that Amedda retired after the Senate was dissolved and is now either just kicking around or got iced by Rebels/Isard/Zsinji, but I have no idea about Moore.
>>
>>1394437
As a thought for voting, NOT MY VOTE, how bad off is the Scylla? if its too bad given current resources, can we set it of an auto pilot towards the cruiser and set to detonate after a set time period? Survivors can be picked up later.

Not seeing a good option here, those cruisers pack more punch than we do, we'll already get a reaming for throwing away the Macabre so stupidly.

Unless we wanna play peek-a-boo with our other cruiser and the Macabre

Lacking hard mechanics, let's say she's 50-75% combat effective. She's hardly crippled or wasted, but against two Star Destroyers that can change quickly. Kamikaze tactics are entirely on the table.

Can Palpatine sense Lumiya and/or Carnor Jax in the Force?

Jacen and Jaina have been born already, yissss, Caedus under Sidious' wing is an orgasmic prospect.
>>
>>1394519
So far, player decisions have opted to focus on military aspects of the campaign, rather than the force. Not to mention players have already tapped Mara Jade as next prospective apprentice, unless Rule of Two is abolished, she's really the only one you can spend significant time training.
>>
>>1394511
Fuck it, lack of plan gives way to desperate measures.

Evac the Scyla after setting autopilot and self destruct. Aim at the closest cruiser so they might think it's a blocking run. I almost want to say send a small squad of drones in the shadow of the Scylla for a bombing run at the cruiser's command center (I forget if the newer cruisers had their CC's exposed like ours after the A-wing incident) as well but I think we might get roasted for throwing away the new toys.
>>
>>1394540
I don't want to train Lumiya, I just don't want her throwing a monkey wrench into out plans with her constant stream of mentally-unstable cougar victims. What kind of idiot thinks that a lightsaber whip is a good idea?

The Rule of Two fulfilled its purpose when Sidious overthrew the Republic and Jedi though, it's stated in Legacy, I think. Most of what Palpatine did went against the Rule of Two, but it worked. Unlike for Krayt, but that's only because Krayt was way too much like Skere Kaan for his own good.

You grind your teeth, the sound of battle washing over you, fresh damage reports and casualty reports pouring in from your ship and your task force.

"Where's Dauntless?" You snap to Teirce.

"They report seven minutes to firing range, captain!" he replies.

"Blast it," you say under your breath, raising your voice to add, "Move Macabre to screen our own ship, Praetor will have to weather the storm on her own for a bit." as you talk, you cross the bridge to the communications station, a desperate plan forming already "Get me Tyvek."

Moments later, "Captain Tyrna, we will have to start speaking under better circumstances, I think." Even Tyvek's usually flippant manner seems worn by the situation.

"How fast can you evacuate Scylla?" you ask.

Tyvek hesitates a moment, "Three minutes." You do some mental math, that's cutting it close but it might be a good ace in the hole. "Make preparations but do not start a general evacuation yet. IF the order comes, you will have to move fast though."

"Ma'am," Tyvek casts a hasty salute on the hologram and you end the transmission.

Your jaw aches from your constant, nervous tension, but you don't let up. Seven minutes of hell before salvation.

A sudden flash from starboard causes you to avert your eyes, looking back as soon as they can adjust. An auxiliary reactor on Craven just detonated, pierced it seems by a lucky turbolaser shot. Craven officially crosses the line from "heavily damaged" to "stricken" power fluctuates all over the ship as power couplings die in a cascade failure while the power load tries to redistribute itself under pressure.

Almost as if that were a signal, Dismay begins wheeling about again, honor apparently satisfied and opting to flee.

"Get that Kriffing ship's colors!" you call to your comms officer, pointing back to the listing Craven. Punctuating your words, an enemy Tie fighters smashes into the command tower of Splinter, perhaps a few dozen meters from the bridge, knocking you off your feet for a moment.

A pair of storm troopers help you back up, and you taste blood.

Screams and groans of wounded fill the bridge, a bank of consoles has exploded from a power surge likely caused by the Tie impact, killing a bridge officer and blinding another one.

"Star Destroyer Craven, this is Splinter, power down your weapons and shields and prepare to surrender, acknowledge," the comms officer says over the din.

"Captain Tyrna," Tierce calls, looking over the tactical officer's shoulder, "Dauntless is entering firing range now, ma'am."

Seconds tick by after your demand for surrender from Craven, Dismay headed off at best possible speed, rapidly lengthening the distance between your ship and theirs.

"No response from Craven, ma'am!" Comms reports.

"Whatever laserbrain is helming that ship has until Dauntless arrives to sort it out. Plot a pursuit course, we are not letting Dismay escape," you were good and worked up now, the taste of your own blood and the smell of singed flesh in the air on the bridge had you on edge. You brush a stray lock of hair back from your face and wipe at a droplet of blood on your uniform blouse, you notice your lip is bleeding.

You brush away a stormtrooper who tries to offer you a bandage for your lip.

Bodies are hauled away and wounded led out, you have a moment of peace as Splinter's thrusters warm up to chase down the enemy cruiser.

You can see Craven's Tie compliment abandoning ship to race after Dismay, likely in the vain hope they can get aboard and make it to the hyper limit.

"Let the fighters handle this," you say, "Shadow Droids will lead the attack, I want the Line Ties to screen our bombers as they decapitate that ship."

You take a moment to compose yourself further, surveying the damage to your bridge. It appears to be minor, nothing structural. Although that would be hard to explain the families of those killed here moments ago. You briefly consider that what you're witnessing is a small microcosm of what's happening all across your ship, and indeed the task force, or even fleet.

Nearby, Craven is releasing escape pods while Dauntless pumps turbolaser fire into her, warping the star destroyer's hull out of shape from the ferocity of the barrage. Of course, your tractor beam operators are scooping up what pods come close to be taken to waiting security detachments in the hangar. You tried not to ponder what sort of fate awaited the soldiers who opposed Palpatine's return.

"Lieutenant Vells reports his forces have made contact with Dismay's fighter screen," Tactical reports.

You nod and continue to watch. As you do, Tierce steps up beside you, matching your posture, hands clasped behind his back.

"The only way we can stop that cruiser now is if it stops to pick up its fighters," he says. "And if they're in the kind of hurry I suspect they are, they won't wait."

No, that had to be the Emperor himself. You think about the tremendous power that it must have taken to conjure up that fleet-killing storm. If the Emperor had returned, perhaps order could be restored to the galaxy. It was a thought worth fighting for.

On the tactical display you see a flight of Shadow Droids break through the feeble fighter screen and dive at Dismay's engines, laser fire pulsing and missiles streaking out. There is a flash and an explosion and two of Dismay's primary thrusters flicker and die, now you are gaining on her rapidly.

"Very good," you smile at your comm officer and turn to Tierce, "prepare a few detachments of stormtroopers to secure that ship. I want prisoners."

"Yes Ma'am," Tierce says before hesitating and adding, "Ah, ma'am. You may want to have a medic come look at that." He points to your chin.

Your hand comes away bloody, your lip has been bleeding since you fell, leaving a thin trail of red down your chin to drip onto your uniform. You wipe at the blood uselessly, "Consider me a casualty," you say lightly.
With Dismay's surrender, your fighters return to the ship and the focus becomes rescue, repair, and triage of the wounded. The rest of the fleet is moving into occupation orbit over Coruscant to deal with the problem of planetary shields and orbital battle stations while Splinter is entered into a list of ships awaiting repairs.

With the live-or-die nature of the battle gone you've had time to dwell on your decisions and actions during the fight and keep coming back to the destruction of Macabre, the young lieutenant Lerysh killed in action in his first command. Tyvek's old ship lost. That loss more than any other weighs heavily on you.

Stepping to an unused communications terminal, you call up Scylla. With a few words, you get Captain Tvek on the line. His face is taut, tired, and strained.

"Captain Tyrna, to what do I owe this pleasure?" he asks, his voice light, but masking a hard tone that you've heard before. Grief.

"Captain Tyvek, I-" you pause to collect your words, "wanted to say something after the loss of Macabre."

Tyvek holds up a hand, "Appreciated, captain, but unnecessary."

"I'm afraid I feel it is necessary. The men on that ship were soldiers," you say, "They did their duty to the end and I regret my part in seeing them go. But we are at war and their sacrifice was needed. We can all learn from this battle, but for our task force to destroy one ISD and capture another is no small feat indeed. This is a victory and for it they sadly paid the ultimate price."

Tyvek nods, his face a mask. "Thank you captain. You did what you could for them. They were a good crew, they knew the risks." he pauses to snort, "Damn kids, all of them. Never did have an ounce of fear in their bodies." he wipes at the corner of his eye. "Will there be anything else, captain?"

"I'm having my yeoman send over a bottle of Corellian Brandy," you say, "I would also like to have a piece of Macabre's armor plating engraved with the names of those who served on board."

"I can see to that, captain," Tyvek says. "Thank you."

"Of course." You trade salutes and end the transmission.

Within an hour, the final casualty toll comes in. There is noteworthy damage to Scylla and Splinter, but nothing requiring drydock time. Macabre was destroyed with all hands lost. Four interceptors lost, as well as just over a dozen Tie/LNs. An entire squadron of Shadow Droids was likewise destroyed. It's a difficult pill to swallow, especially after your virtually bloodless victory at Hemei IV, but such is the nature of warfare, made easier by your comparative bounty. Capturing a star destroyer, crippling another and destroying a Carrack cruiser.

After having your superficial injury treated, to prevent the crew from being distracted by it if nothing else, you oversee rescue and recovery operations from Splinter's bridge even as repair crews patch up the blown terminals and mop up the blood. The ships of your task force make slow passes through the debris field left behind from the battle, seeking out life signs and emergency transponders. Among them are the three Revenant-class cruisers trolling through the debris, scooping up wrecked fighters with their tractor beams, Ties and Shadow Droids alike. They make no effort to coordinate their efforts with your other ships, save to inform you that they have "first right" to recovery.

This process has been occurring for almost half an hour when the doors to the bridge turbolift open, though you barely notice until you hear Tierce trying to talk with someone rapidly approaching you.

"Lieutenant Vells, I hardly think-"

"Stow it!" Vells snaps at Tierce, side stepping your XO.

You have turned about completely to face him.

Vells is wearing his black flight suit still, helmet in the crook of his arm, a smile absent from his face which shows only barely constrained rage.

"Catapin Tyrna," he says, giving you a stiff salute, "Permission to speak, ma'am?"

Bridge crew everywhere pretend to look busy.

You look down your nose at Vells for a few hearbeats, "Lieutenant Tierce, you have the bridge." you don't break eye contact with Vells, "Lieutenant Vells, if you'll accompany me to my ready room."

Tierce acknowledges, giving Vells a solid stink eye as the two of you pass, Vells fuming silently. He holds his composure until you close the door to your ready room behind him.

"Captain, permission to speak freely, ma'am," he repeats, clearly quite agitated, though surprisingly, it doesn't seem to be with you.

"Vells, let me give you a piece of advice. There are two ways to criticize a superior. In private, where they might forgive you, or in front of everyone, so at least you get your money's worth before they space you," you say calmly while he clenches his helmet in a gloved fist, jaw working back and forth. "Are we understood?"
"Yes. Ma'am." he chokes out the words.

"Now what is it you have to say?" you sit at your small desk and steeple your fingertips together.

"It's those kriffing Darksiders," he says through his teeth.

You blink, this was fairly unexpected.

"That's what they are, right?" He continues, his anger coming uncorked, "By the Emperor, Captain! They have ND-1210!"

You blink again, your mind is able to process this as the designation of a Tie Pilot before he continues.

"Aurek 2, my wingmate," he explains, "Navid caught some fire passing by Dismay toward the end of the battle, his life signs were weak, but he was alive, ma'am! I marked his tie for recovery and guess who comes scooting along? Kriffing Grave Hand. They tractor in his tie like it's nothing and move along." He struggles for words, having several false starts before settling on a sentence. "They're not navy ma'am. I want him off their ship and on to one of ours."

So, this was the human toll of the Shadow Droids.

You knew those strange Revenant-Class carriers real designation as Medical Reclamation Cruisers. Possessing an inordinate number of surgical suites and cryogenic storage and fielding "droid" fighters that used nutrient fluid in their construction. The truth of what Ap-Llewff and his fellow Darkside Adepts were doing with the stricken Tie pilots they recovered was all too obvious to you.

But what to tell Vells?

>I will make sure we get ND-1210 back from them

>I will make sure we get ND-1210 back from them

I would advocate NOT telling the already volatile tie pilot what the drones are. Especially when we are in such a weak position. What we can do, however, is report on their effectiveness. That they are barely better than trained tie fighter pilots whose effectiveness may well be greatly boosted by giving them better ships. Steer towards the shield and better TIES that would later be used by the First Order. Two pilots, guns in the rear and forward, shields, etc. We saw ourselves that the droids were exchanged 1 to 5 and noted it wasn't hardly better than our top 40-50%
>>
You study Vells for a moment before speaking, "Do you know what Shadow Droids are, Vells?"

The lieutenant remains blank faced for a moment, "No, ma'am I can't say that I do."

"But surely you have to suspect why a droid carrier would want to pick up wounded Tie pilots," you say.

Vells opens and then closes his mouth before speaking, "What exactly are you saying, ma'am?"

"I'm telling you that the Shadow Droids are not droids."

Vells is silent a moment while this processes. He falls more than sits in the chair opposite yours. "Stang . . . He mutters. "Stang!" he pounds a fist on your desk. "So what, they're gonna just chop him up and hook him up inside one of those things?"

"Vells, I can promise I will try to see your friend returned to us. But I can't guarantee anything," you say soothingly.

"Captain, you have to," he pleads, "Navid doesn't deserve to end up like that. He was a good man."

"As the senior fighter pilot in the engagement, you have a lot more sway than you realize," you say. "This was the combat debut of Shadow Droids, one we were meant to be observing. I want a report on their combat effectiveness to turn in to high command, along with a recommendation on whether you think we should continue the program or invest more in TIE Defenders or TIE Avenger series. Make it unimpeachable."

Vells nods, though he still looks quite shaken.

"I will talk to Ap-Llewff and see what I can do in the meantime, but you have to keep calm about this. These Dark Siders are powerful people."

Vells snorts, "I'm not kriffing afraid of them. If I were afraid of anything you think I'd lock myself in a durasteel ball strapped to guns and an engine?"

"You should be afraid of them, Vells," you say quietly, "Your pilots are counting on you, and I can't protect you from these people."

Vells glowers at you, "If you say so, captain."

"Now get back to your squadron, I'll talk to Ap-Llewff."

Vells stands up and throws you a salute, his face drained of all color. "You know I fought right next to those things and never knew what they were," he says.

You don't have an response as your squadron commander shuffles more than walks out of your ready room.

After Vells left, you felt your own nervousness return. For just this once, you wish you had a Tie Interceptor pilots casual disregard for death. Unfortunately, Naval officers needed more brains than guts. You had no idea what you would say as you punched in Grave Hand's command frequency on your private com.

Within moments, Ap-Llewff is on the comm with you, his voice calm as always.

"Captain Tyrna. I wish to thank you for your excellent performance in battle. I can assure you, my report to the Emperor will reflect that your task force performed admirably and at great personal cost." "Thank you, my lord," you say, feeling a little ill.

"What is it that I can do for you, captain?"

"Yes, I do," you say. "Wide spread harvesting like this is unneeded and it effects pilot morale."

"The morale of your crew is your concern, captain."

"Those Shadow droids of yours only performed marginally better than my Ties did," you blurt, "Taking into account superior weaponry and shielding. If my men had access to those sorts of ships in life they would perform as well as they do in death."

Ap-Llewff is silent for a few moments.

"And what do you propose?"

"Save this work for the most hopeless cases. And worj with me to get our pilots better equipped so we don't have to waste resources getting them back into a fight they shouldn't have left by all rights."

"Perhaps you are correct, captain," Ap-Llewff muses. "I do think you are mistaken about the value of the Shadow Droid program, but perhaps we can reduce our collection rates. In fact, it may be more efficient to equip the medical suites on our standard warships to conduct the procedure themselves."

You breathe an easy sigh of relief.

"Although," Ap-Llewff continues, "I'm afraid to report that none of the pilots we have collected survived much beyond that. So the pilot you seek is beyond ordinary life saving measures." He pauses again, "After we have removed his brain, I will have my surgeons return the body to its previous state and we will send it to your ship so your pilot may have some closure."

"Thank you, my lord," you say.

Ap-Llewff closes the channel and you take your first real breath since you started the conversation. You only hoped your dealings with these Dark Siders reduced after this Shadow Droid experiment was done with.

It's Dark Empire time! Before we get started, I want to do my usual spiel. Firstly, it's becoming clear to me that running this game every day and going to work are not going to work together, so I am working on a more staggered schedule. I'm thinking Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and every other weekend. But for now, stay tuned and we'll play it by ear, but likely there will be no Dark Empire tomorrow, so let's make it count.

As always, here's the Twitter I use to keep people up to date on the game. I'm giving the Empire one extra Tie/Ln (Wow!) for each person who follows me.

Previously we followed Alana during a chaotic and bloody mopping up action in high orbit of Coruscant. Sadly, the Raider-Class Corvette Macabre was destroyed and our task force suffered at the hands of two Imperial-Class Star Destroyers, but with the help of the ISD Dauntless and a wing of Shadow Droids, you crippled one and forced the surrender of the other.

While Alana and her allies clean up the remnants of Admiral Harssk's fleet, the Emperor onboard his flagship, Tarkin and the rest of his armada close in on

Otherwise, let's dive in.

You can't help but stand and watch the glittering dark jewel of Coruscant grow larger as your fleet closes in on the planet, you can't see it, but your sensors are reporting the planetary shields are online and running. Your initial plan, of using the Dark Side to summon a titanic force storm to overload the shield generators has to be shelved because of your own exhaustion having already used the force to tear apart Harssk's war fleet. Now, at the "gates" of Imperial Center, you stand poised and ready.

The surviving bulk of the Coruscant Defense Fleet has turned coat on Isard, joining your forces. The Golan defense platforms in orbit likewise chose to live rather that die fighting the inevitable. The shields however, are different.
Access to the shields is controlled from the ground in a series of distributed, mutually supporting shield generators. This means that more than one would have to be knocked out to open a significant gap. That, or simply overloading the shields with a prolonged, high-intensity bombardment. In practice, this typically meant wide-spread devastation of the planet's surface, and with a surface like Coruscant, it meant casualties in the millions.

Alternatively, Coruscant could be taken by siege as it is far from being self-sufficient on food production, though a siege would take time, and would likely cause nearly as many casualties as a bombardment.

Either option is not ideal. Fortunately for you, you may not have to take either one. A transmission from the Imperial Palace was patched through to your throne room aboard Tarkin shortly after the battle with Harssk's fleet concluded. The communication was patched through at once.

The human-sized holopad at the foot of your throne lights up and a hologram takes shape of a human figure, kneeling ,head bowed.

"Your highness," Isard says, not looking up at you, "Please accept my most humble apologies for having doubted you. I had thought this was some sort of trick Sedriss and that Jade woman had worked out together. Please forgive me."

"A crushing victory, your highness," he replies. "Admiral Harssk's flagship and most of his fleet has been totally destroyed, a mere handful of escorts and shuttles managed to escape, and we've captured 80% of the Coruscant garrison intact."

"Very good, Admiral," you croon, "And what of my Shadow Droids?"

"Do as you wish, Admiral," you say.

"Yes, your highness." Zahn bows and you kill the transmission.

Zahn's planetary sweep creates a spectacular show of force, and forces the rapid integration of Isard's own security forces with yours. You give Zahn one day to finish his preparations before you and your apprentice-to-be embark on a special shuttle for the surface.

The scene on Coruscant is magnificent, the sheer spectacle of tens of thousands of people thronging to every open space surrounding the palace is almost unbelievable. Your brilliant red shuttle coasts slowly over the multitudes on its way to the palace, a Tie Fighter wing in escort while the deadly daggers of Star Destroyers hover far overhead, their angular shapes blotting the sun as they pass over the crowd.

The emotions of the people gathered here are as diverse as them, but they mix and mingle together to form an intoxicating cocktail, fear, exuberance, hope, anger, despair, a lust for revenge. The people of the Empire crave strong leadership, the kind neither a warlord, nor an Admiral, nor a politician or spy could provide. They crave an Emperor.

Ahead, at the landing pad, a legion of stormtroopers, glinting white in the noonday sun, cordons off a square large enough to land 10 shuttles in, let alone one.

As the shuttle touches down, the Byss Royal Guards on board stand and prepare to lead the way off the shuttle for you, Mara Jade ready to follow at your side, looking rather uneasy about a very public appearance for the previously concealed Emperor's Hand.

"Come," you say, "This is your place now. No longer are you my assassin, you truly are my right hand. You will learn to be a Sith, and the Sith no longer have reason to hid themselves."

Mara nods, "Yes Master. As you say."

You stride off of the shuttle ramp, Mara at your side and enter the sun-lit plaza to what sounds like an endless roll of thunder, the noise from the population gathered to watch your return. You pay them no mind and confidently enter the palace, a double rank of Royal Guardsmen settling in behind you.

Preparations had already been made to prepare the palace for your arrival, Imperial banners hang from the vaulted ceilings and flutter from the galleries. You remind yourself that this is not a victory parade, but a start point for what will likely prove a long and difficult campaign.

You mount a series of steps and pass through a towering durasteel door emblazoned with the Imperial seal and into your private chambers. Here are a number of Royal guardsman, a collection of Dark Side Adepts including your Executor, Sedriss, and the Dark Side Elite. And of course, sitting front and center of it all, Yssane Isard, standing just to the left of your empty throne.

Upon seeing you, she kneels, as do the others in the chamber save your guardsmen.

You step confidently over to Isard, smirking at her apparent display of humility.

Nope.
This argument is so retarded the NJO books themselves even point out how dumb it is.
"What the Empire would have done was build a super-colossal Yuuzhan Vong–killing battle machine. They would have called it the Nova Colossus or the Galaxy Destructor or the Nostril of Palpatine or something equally grandiose. They would have spent billions of credits, employed thousands of contractors and subcontractors, and equipped it with the latest in death-dealing technology. And you know what would have happened? It wouldn't have worked. They'd forget to bolt down a metal plate over an access hatch leading to the main reactors, or some other mistake, and a hotshot enemy pilot would drop a bomb down there and blow the whole thing up. Now that's what the Empire would have done."

Fitting that the man who stood at your side on your rise to prominence would become head of your political regime on your rebirth. Amedda will be summoned from Byss to take his place as your Grand Vizier.

With the capital now firmly under your control, it falls to you to chart a course rebuilding your empire, making it stronger internally as well as expanding its borders. To that end, you must decide how best to rule. Coruscant has been the traditional capital of the galaxy for millennia and its name under your rule, Imperial Center, sums up more than anything its role in government. However, Byss has been your throne world and was the world of your rebirth and as such holds an important place in your new power hierarchy.

Unfortunately, symbols hold power. We'd have to damn near destroy the planet otherwise the rebels would claim it and use it to legitimize themselves with the seat of "old and True governance"
>>
Coruscant would remain the capital, so as not ot disturb the order of things. To do anything else would be an admission of defeat in a way.

Perhaps Byss would do better as a center of the dark side, a modern day Korriban or Malachor. In fact, on that line of thinking, you had been putting off your devotion to the dark side for this campaign to reclaim the capital. Perhaps now is the time to concentrate on that front.

We can just throw mothballed Magna Guards at the appalling lack of saber skills the "Dark Side Elite" show. Either they'll shape up, or we'll learn that we'd be better off making more Magna Guards.

I thought we where going to kill that bitch who doubted our superiority. She should pay for daring to disobey us. She also failed to keep the empire in line in the original timeline

to be fair, the introduction to our new body was not well handled. We let Mara Jade, whom we knew she hated and distrusted, do most of our talking for us only to join in after she'd made up her mind and acting almost entirely how a damn puppet would in the situation. Honestly, she's showing her value by not dropping over at first but getting in line after we show some proper power.
>>
Personally, I wanted to see Mara Jade in a room alone with Isard for some pleasant conversation.
>>
>>1400256
Agreed.

Our display of raw force power against the traitor fleet should also convince her to dismiss any notions of trying to backstab us - especially when we are apparently unchained by death.

We should probably move to secure the Maw Installation pronto
>>
You can't remain the only true Sith in the galaxy, your job would be much easier with another Sith Lord to delegate tasks to. You hope Mara will become that Sith. With a little attention, she will become the loyal monster Vader always could have been. Mara has been taught the bare basics of mastery of the force, that her anger can give focus to the power within her, though her natural talents are sadly lacking when compared to the late Anakin Skywalker, or even his son. She is a capable fighter and commander, but has never gone against a truly worth opponent, or commanded anything larger than a starship.

There is a lot of ground to cover. But where to begin?

>Hone her combat ability
>Teach her how to command
>Show her the nature of the Dark side
>>
>>1400291
Incorporating TIE Phantom tech to Shadow Droids sounds like a plan since the Maw was where many of the Empire's experimental tech was stored.
>>
>>1400293
>Show her the nature of the Dark side
>>
>>1400293
>>Show her the nature of the Dark side
This will breed greater loyalty and would lead to her becoming a better commander through Battle Meditation and using telepathy to better appraise her future subordinates.
>>
>>1400293
>Hone her combat ability
We always need to control her strength. While trustworthy now - Sith are always fickle with their loyalties.

What we need is a Spiked Fist in the image of Vader. One who will spread fear, exert control and act as a physical embodiment of our will.

Mara was already a capable fighter and a loyal follower. You didn't need another soldier, you needed a fellow Sith, one to crave your power and strive to surpass it, driving you to improve on your own. Such was the Rule of Two. Mara has already seen the power hate can bring, now she must go further. Of course, there are many facets to the dark side., so many avenues to be taken, where to begin?
>Teach her the philosophy of the Sith
>Show her how better to use the force and nurture her talent
>Only starting from scratch can the best tools be made. Break her down anew to rebuild her fresh (Time consuming)

First we need to weed out any weaknesses that prevented her from dealing with Skywalker as we ordered.

Second point: can we do away with Rulle of Two? its a stupid god damn exercise at this point, "imma train you explicitly to kill me, hoop-de-doop-de-doo" It has served its purpose: it weeded out the overindulgence of the old Sith Empire where just about god damn force sensitive asshole was a Darth. now it's just wasteful.
>>
>>1400385
You sure can. You just need to Find some god damned peace and quiet to reform the dark side hierarchy.
>>

Also, Maximilian Veers is still around right now. Put him in charge of all military forces unless a Grand Admiral is still around. Then Put them in charge, and Veers in charge of ground troops.

Rule of two is what made the sith stronger than any Jedi masters
>>
>>1400419
His over-reliance on walkers and their shock value might not work anymore in these trying times. That and the NR probably has tons of tactics and strategies to counter Walker assaults after all these years.
>>
>>1400425
Rule of two removed a glaring threat and allowed the jedi to expand, forget they had an enemy, and become fat, lazy bastards getting high on their own farts.

Fuck. I'm a fucking incompetent shitlord.

>>
>>1400433
Perhaps we'd simply need to look into developing more modern walkers?

>>1400385
If we did, I think we'd need to ensure that we don't repeat the same mistakes of the old Sith Empire by allowing the order to spawn hordes of incompetent dumbshit Darths.

Frankly, I'm more in favor of keeping the Rule of Two but allowing for the development of affiliated Darksider groups. Like the Dark Side Elite and the Byss Mages. They seem to serve a specific purpose for the Empire without overreaching any boundaries.

Mara fell to a knee, gasping, sweat running down her neck, her hands clenched tight around the handle of her saber as another ASP duelist droid fell beside her, bisected with a glowing line of molten metal. It was one of a dozen that lay scattered about the bare metal floor of the dueling arena.

She didn't have time to catch her breath before you drop into the arena behind her, saber flashing to life. Jade whirls, parries your attack, but slowly, clumsily. You deflect her blade easily and swipe your own quickly across her face, controlling your strike like a surgeon drawing line of black, burned skin across her cheek and the bridge of her nose.

Mara cries out and falls back, dropping her saber to clap a hand over her face.

You stare down at her, light saber humming in your hand. "Weak," you spit, "Pathetic."

"It was you who trained me!" she spits back, one hand over her eye, the other a glittering diamond of hate.

You sneer down at her, "I trained you for what I needed. An errand girl. Now I expect you to be a Lord of the Sith. An artist is only good as the material he works with.

You feel the hurt and betrayal roiling within her as you speak. Good. You are not her surrogate father, you are her Master, and she, with luck, will be your apprentice.

"You have grown complacent," you say, "It is easy to be a Nexu among Nerfs, but much harder when placed before a true challenge. Sickening." You turn away and her Jade's lightsaber snap back on with a hiss. She screams as she rushes you.

With hardly any effort, you lift her through the force and direct an arc of electric energy into her so she cries out and hits the deck plating, hard. As mara struggles to get up, you chuckle, "I was under the mistaken belief that training you would be easy." you shake your head. "You are broken, Mara. I broke you as a child to shape you into what I needed. I will break you again and again until you are exactly what I want."

Mara looked away from you, ashamed. "You will fail, my young apprentice," you say. "Only when you surrender what you were, and become what you were meant to be, will your path to the Dark Side be complete."

Your apprentice looks back at you, uncovering here eye revealing a charred scar across her cheeks. She struggles to her feet, spits on the deck, and ignites her saber.

So begins Mara's first true steps toward becoming a Sith. Already people are chomping at the bit to further develop the Sith, Dark Siders, or even redo the entire Sith Order, I'm also hearing a lot of ideas for strategy in the coming campaign of reconquest, and there is still a lot to go over. Because of that, I I think we'll continue following Palpatine in our next session which will be Wednesday 7 EST (11 UTC day after tomorrow) I hate leaving now, but real life calls.

I'd say that Krayt made the same mistake that a lot of Sith make, trying to recruit a Skywalker as your apprentice. And he really should have known better. Its always a trap, and they always turn back to the light and strike you down.

Counterpoint: The Dark Side is a finite resource, the more that use it; the less potent it is. The Rule of Two is the most effective usage of its power, though this sort of thinking leads to issues in terms of openly projecting power and influence; but that's what our Dark Side Adepts are for.
>>
If I remember correctly, Palpatine envisioned his Dark Empire as placing Dark Sider Adepts in many positions of power. If we spent a good deal of time expanding the size and powers of our current Adepts, we could eventually pull off something similar on a large scale

I really liked the idea of Byss serving as some sort of nexus for this kind of development. While Coruscant is the capital of the Empire, I believe Byss can become something like a Spiritual Center for it.
>>
>>1401972
A new, more loyal and useful Alderaan.
>>
>>1401915
>The Dark Side is a finite resource, the more that use it; the less potent it is.
I don't recall that ever being said. I'm pretty sure Bane was being more philosophical. My point was that while Krayt was betrayed, he recovered from that pretty ably. His downfall really came from screwing around with a Skywalker instead of murdering him at the first opportunity.
>>
>>1402068
And yet the core problem that led to Shere Khan's downfall was not addressed by Krayt's One Sith: Too many darksiders in one organization. Sure Krayt attempted to use indoctrination to make them loyal to him and his system of making the Sith into one massive force organism, but such a philosophy is paradoxical to the Dark Side's nature of seizing power and transcending one's limitations; things that even Andeddu, one of the first Dark Lords of the Sith knew full well.

Despite this, Dark Side Adepts are acceptable in the Rule of Two because they are deliberately made/selected to be weaker than true Sith Lords and are often comprised of people who are of a servile nature so that they wouldn't be strong enough to think of betraying their masters and that they wouldn't draw upon the dark side as much as Lords of the Sith.
>>
>>1402068
Also, I fully agree with not wasting time with Skywalkers. Anakin was an exception since Palpatine maneuvered himself into being the Father figure Annie never saw in Obi-Wan or any of the Jedi Masters.

Krayt's core issue is that he encouraged a "survival of the fittest" culture, then tried to exempt himself from it by placing himself on a pedestal. He was actually fairly successful in eliminating the chronic backstabbing disorder in the lower ranks. His main problems were threefold:
1. His second in command wanted to apply the system to him as well.
2. There was a alternate source of legitimacy in the Empire due to the Fel Dynasty.
3. Skywalker.

Now, to move on to Palpatine:
Palpatine doesn't like the rule of two, because Palpatine is a narcissistic sociopath. He actually has his own doctrine:
http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Rule_of_One_(Palpatine's_Doctrine)
Therefore, any ideology we have needs to be focused on three things:
1. Making sure that our apprentice is loyal, even given that she won't be a successor.
2. Making sure that the next rank down doesn't try to league together to take us out.
3. Making sure that there isn't too much backstabbing in the lower ranks.

Personally, I'm in favor of creating several sub orders differentiated by function, such as >>1385703
On top of that, we'd have a dark council, consisting of Us, Mara Jade, the leaders of the orders, and whatever personal agents like the hands that we have. We could also add something like the lost tribe of the Sith's Grand Consort at certain levels.
>>
>>1402232
Aside from space battles, are we also able to take command of land forces?
>>
>>1402762
