The ocean just got a whole lot more crowded, because advancing on this small island chain was over thirty Academyships from all over the world. It was around 8 AM when Commissioner Durocher came aboard LGA, and on stage facing out towards the island she made her announcement. “I now declare Lafayette Girls Academy the stage for the NATO Combined Fleet Festival!” The huge crowd of girls and cheers and hollers at the proclamation. Even your crew looks positively excited to be here today.

And for good reason. Today was the All-Star Game, the event that would kick off FleetFest. And surprisingly enough, you’d be participating in it.

“I can’t wait!” yells Winona. “I’m so excited!”

“We’re going to be famous!” says Stack. “I mean, I’m gonna be famous, y’all are gonna be like those uncredited extras.”

“As if,” says Ingrid.

“I’m just excited to be here,” says Josephina. “I’ve never seen so many Academyships in one place before! How are they all going to fit into the docks?”

“They’re not, our tanks are going in by airlift,” says Ingrid. “But whatever! It’s time for FleetFest! Ellie, you ready to show them what we can do down there?”

Winona hugs you from behind. “Hmph, Ellie is ready for anything!”

You bet I am! Though I'm with you Josephina...I'm just happy to be here!

You stare ahead, a bit dumbed out from the fact that you’re even elected an All-Star in the first place. Winona waves her hand in front of her face. “Aw, Ellie’s so dumbstruck she can’t even speak!” Stack as well does the same, looking into your eye. “Oooh, I know what’ll get her worked up!” She pokes your tit. “Tsss-“

You slap her hand away. “Stop that!”

“Ha!” Winona folds her arms, grinning. “Works everytime!” Better be the ONLY time.

“Look, I’m excited guys, I really am. I’m happy to be here,” you say. “But also I’m insanely nervous that I won’t get to satisfy people. I mean, my parents are going to be in the stands too. Not to mention Jeep Jockey and the boys will be watching!”

Stack tilts her head, smirking. “Why do you care about Jock’s opinion of you?”

“That-“ You sigh. “Nevermind.”

Ingrid rolls up her sleeve, looking at her watch. “We’ve got some time before we gotta head out. You guys want to do anything?”

Oh God, just when your embarrassment hit a peek with kissing Jock yesterday. “Hi, Ellie!” says Mom and Dad. They’re proudly wearing white t-shirts with the LGA Fleur-de-lis on them, and holding up a sign together that says “ELODIE IS BEST”. They couldn’t have even used proper grammar? They wave at you happily as you walk up to them.

“I’m guessing you two are going to cheer me on,” you say.

“Yup!” says Mom. “The signs not finished just yet. We gotta paste on some pictures of you around the words.”

“Yeah, we ran out of space for the The,” Dad explains. “So we just went with ELODIE IS BEST. But we do have plenty of space saved up for hanging pictures around the edges for you.”

Winona giggles a little. “My my, you guys are really into it.”

“Of course, it’s our daughter in an All-Star game!” says Mom. “When else are we going to see another opportunity like that? We’ll be the loudest ones in the crowd!”

Dad smirks. “Your mom’s already had plenty of practice.” Mom gently slaps Dad on the shoulder, a light blush and a sly smile on her face.

You sigh, smiling at them. “Yeah. It’s good to see you guys regardless.”

“Thanks, Ellie.” Dad pets your head, smiling at you. You’ll make an exception for your Dad. He did raise you. “We’ll try not to embarrass you. We will though, let’s not beat around the bush.” You snort, snickering a little.

“From here on out, everyone’s going to know your name, Elodie!” says Mom.

“Indeed, I already hear much of her!” Wait, that wasn’t one of your crewmembers. You look around to see a very familiar Russian girl, backed up by another familiar Russian. You gasp, standing stiff. Oh God. It’s Oryola Kuznetsov and Rozaliya Ulanova. “Elodie Zumwalt. Your parents, da?”

“Y- yeah!” You nod quickly. “Uh- uh… Mom, Dad. This is Oryola Kuznetsov. And Rozaliya Ulanova.” Your crew steps to the side, smirking and smiling a bit at your predicament.

Rozaliya grins. “It is very nice to be meeting you all.”

Mom folds her arms. “So this is the infamous Cunctator of Russia. We’ve heard so much.”

“Cunctator?” Oryola smirks, looking at Mom admirably. “You study the Punic Wars too?” Mom shrugs, smiling a little. Oryola looks at you. “Elodie, I already love your mother.” You nod, smiling politely. “By the way, congratulations on the Commissioner’s Pick. Sad to say you did not win the popular vote, but I keep an eye on you.” She wags her finger at you. “You are not an ace, not yet at least. But it is good to be seeing you, da?”

You smile happily. Oooh, she remembered you! “Yeah, thank you, Oryola! And congrats on making it into the All-Star game!”

“Da!” She waves it off, smiling. “I will admit, it will be my last All-Star game before I graduate. So I will try and make it my best. You just do you as you Americans say. Anyway…” She rolls up her sleeve, checking her watch. “We should being reporting to the staging grounds soon. I would get there early, da?”

“Yes, yes, of course!”

Oryola grins, a bit of muck and grease staining her cheeks. “Wonderful! Dasvidaniya!” With that, the two of them leave.

“We should get going then!” says Winona. “Don’t want to be late!” Of course, of course! You say goodbye to your parents, then hurry on over to the airfield. There, a helicopter will take you into the field of play.

The thirty or so commanders from the Western League are assembled. You see familiar faces like Salome Del Rio, Carolina Greene, June Bug Weathers, Maria Da Silva, Dix Hauser, Meryl, and some you haven’t been personally acquainted with. It’s all handshakes, hugs, and hellos as everyone gets to know each other. Your crew are getting acquainted with the other crews back at your tanks. For now, it was just the commanders.

And right now, the decision has to be made. “Who should lead the team?” asks Salome Del Rio.

“I shall!” says Dix. She thumps her chest.

“No, I will!” says Carolina. “I will lead the Western League to victory!”

June Bug raises her hand. “Actually, I think Meryl should.” She points to Meryl, who looks around, confused. “It’s her last year after all.”

“Aha, no.” Meryl shakes her head, a light smile on her face. “I’m not that much of a commander. Maybe Griselda or Dix or somebody else.” Griselda quietly stands to the side, trying it seems not to make a case for herself.

“I think Griselda should lead us actually,” you say. Everyone looks over to Griselda.

“Oh, uh-“ Griselda clears her throat. “I mean, if no one else will.”

“Sure, why not,” says Dix. “She did beat me after all.”

“She beat almost all of us,” says Meryl. “Yeah, I’m in favor. Everyone else?” They all raise their hands, unanimously. Even you’re surprised by that. “It’s settled, Griselda is our team captain for today!” Everyone politely applauds Griselda. She meekly rubs the back of her neck, looking around at everyone.

“Right then,” says Griselda. “Um. Well, I won’t try and micromanage everyone. Nothing’s on the line here. So, let’s try and give it our best shot, okay?” Everyone nods, happy with that. “Great, let’s get to work then.”

With that, the teams assemble. The Western League has selected Griselda Pool to represent them. And for the Eastern League, Oryola Kuznetsov. The six judges for the All-Star game stand in between you all. “The match between the NATO Western League and NATO Eastern League will now begin. This is an ELIMINATION match! The side which renders inoperable all opposing tanks wins!”

“Here are your NATO All-Stars!”

You sit and wait. All thirty tanks of the Western League line up are ready. “Alright, everyone,” says Griselda. “We take the high ground first around 501. Oryola’s in command, so I doubt they’ll be taking an offensive approach. Everyone is free to do as they do, you’re all competent, I won’t micromanage you all. Good luck. Let’s get on the bounce!”

“Ho!” Everyone yells out in response.

The flare shoots up and explodes in the air, signaling the start of the match. Camera planes and drones fly on overhead, observing from above. Time to go. Everyone starts moving forwards, eastwards.

Try to rally the other light/fast tanks: Da Silva, Greene, Pilla, Lobo, Blaskowitz, Kowalski and Smith. We'll push out fast for Hill 501/503 and try to meet and defeat the enemy's own fast elements so we can contest that hill as it dominates the middle of the map.

Knowing Oryola, she’ll probably just sit back and wait for you all to make the first move. She’ll sacrifice the initiative if she knows she can get some useful information on what you’re doing out of it. Mei though is a complete mystery. As a student of the Shimada Household well… she’ll probably just group up all the ZES tanks into a pack or something. Pride will probably not let her follow Oryola’s orders.

For now though, you say, “All fast tanks on me. We’re rushing point 501 towards that hill in the south.” Following you now were Maria Da Silva, Carolina Greene, Hilda Blaskowitz, Brunhilde Kowalski, and Legs Smith. Pilla and Lobo were a little behind. As for the others, they were separating now into two distinct groups. One was going north, the other was heading direct east. Griselda was leading the north bunch, with Meryl taking the easterly bunch with all the heavy tanks. Griselda had everyone else, which meant all the tank destroyers in SGH and the mediums as well.

As you approach the hill, you scope out with your binoculars. No sight of movement yet. If they had any fast tanks, they would have been here by now as you approach. Perhaps they’re holding back? Oryola is dealing with an usual lineup. Maybe she’s holding back for now, expecting you to take the ground.

Recon by fire, if they let us take that hill, we gain a tactically advantageous position from which we can anchor the flank of our team and pour fire down onto EL's movements in the Southern map, if they prevent us from taking it, we gain valuable intel about their firing locations and local strength.

So keep at high speed and heads on a swivel, send the CMDR light tanks first as they're the hardest targets and have the best chance of sneaking up there unassailed.

Oryola must be thinking as well that she’ll rely on the individual competence of her crews to carry the day. Though in a defense fight, that will be suiting her rather than you.It takes some time before you finally manage to arrive on the hill, a very commanding spot actually. You sweep in from the south and take positions.

“See anything?” you ask. You see the other two groups of tanks moving off in their directions. It seems Griselda is going wide to the north while Meryl is taking her heavies to the east.

“I do!” says Carolina. “Group of tanks from the southeast! Can’t tell what they are though!” You take a look in that direction. They’re not moving fast but they’re not slow either.

“More in the north,” says Maria. A larger plume of smoke indicating movement is up north. Even there you can’t tell what’s up there either. “Seems they’ve split into two groups then.”

“Yeah, they’re probably intending on trying to flank us and encircling us,” you state.

Right, you don’t know what tanks those are. But likely, one of those groups is ZES.

We're in a group of the fastest tanks on the team, I'm hoping we can use the terrain down there and our speed to at the very least harass and hold down that group to prevent them from flanking our main force.

Which is to say slow them down.

The distance between the two enemy groups offer an opportunity to destroy one before the other can reinforce. If we can delay the southern group with hit and runs then our two main groups can encircle and destroy their northern group.
>>

Dig in a pair of the Chaffees on this hill, and call to Griselda to detach at least one or two of the Sherbrooke TDs and send them here. That Nashorn's the super sniper right, with a position this good it'll be lethal. Then take the rest of our lights and move to get eyes on the Southern group, if they're just their fast cruisers and somesuch, engage, but if they outmatch us, pull back to the hill and prepare to engage from there instead.

Is the southern group formed up down the hill a touch? I'm wondering if we couldn't sneak up the draw on that hill, get into a slugfest with them at bad breath ranges.

From what you can tell, perhaps Oryola isn’t completely splitting her team into two halves. If she did, that’d leave a gap open for your center to exploit and outflank either of her wings. She must have somebody holding back and waiting. “Carolina, Blaskowitz, stay here. Griselda.”

Griselda responds. “Yeah?”

“I need a Nashorn down to this hill as fast as you can,” you say.

“Got it.”

With that, you take the rest of the lights and move down the hill. Whoever is down south will be revealed soon once you hit the road.

After some time of driving, you reach a point where you can stop. You take out your binoculars then look out. “Oh.”

Winona looks up. “What is it?”

“It’s Mei and the Centurions.”

“How many?” asks Stack.

“All of the Centurions,” you state. Oh boy. You can’t take them in a straight fight. They’re not firing though, they’re probably waiting for you to retreat back somewhere where falling back would not be an option. Like that hill back there. Hm.

This 8 of their best tanks all down here, notify Meryl's group immediately and request support.

Meanwhile, stay out of sight and use WP rounds and flares as area denial ahead of them, it'll slow them down and force them offroad, though with the Cent's offroad performance, not by as much as I'd like. Use the low hills to the East of Hill 501/503 as our last delaying point, I'd like to end the next post when we pull back to there to reassess our position.

Given the odds as we stand, harrasment is definitely the way to go. I doubt Mei will be so undisciplined. Unless she reaaaaaaaly hates Ellie...
>>
>>1394791
I want to draw them along 4-1A or over the low hills once the Nashorn's atop Hill 501/503, so it can pick them off as they advance and slow them down long enough for whatever Meryl can spare us to arrive. Mei's smart so I imagine she'll retreat at that point to the hills NE astride M512 and regroup. Hopefully during that time we can push our reccce force around South Where the Centurions are currently, outlfanking the EL team and forcing them to send their own manoeuvre element to fight ours, a battle where we'll have at least a slim advantage, having more tanks than them. If we can crush their Cruisers there, we'll have free reign of the enemy's rear, to help break the new ZES position, or to move North and assist Griselda's push.

“Fire white phosphorus down there!” You fire a white phosphorus shell in front of their position. More flares shoot out from your tank to douse the area in Willy Pete. You watch as Mei’s tanks get shrouded in the smoke. Right, that ought to slow them down-

A 17 Pounder shot flies through the smoke right past you, crashing into the hill behind you. Holy fuck! “Okay, back up!” More 17 pounder shots fly right through the smoke cloud at everybody. It’s inaccurate fire, but you’re not going to take any risks! Everyone starts reversing away and to the side from the barrage of suppressive fire. “Meryl. I could use some help down here. It’s Mei and all of her Centurions down here!”

“Got it,” says Meryl. “I’ll send down Iris, Perrine, and Salome.”

Salome says, “We’re coming to help.”

“A lady does not abandon those in need,” says Iris.

“Uh. WHAT THEY SAID!” yells Perrine.

Right, right, that’s fine. You sigh as you start retreating back. You watch as Mei’s tanks start moving around the smoke off-road, north of the road. They move in a single line, probably to respond easily to any threats up north. They might not even be taking you seriously!

“This is Griselda, we’ve engaged with the EL up north. It’s Oryola! She’s sending the JWA and Kuromorimine girls down south to engage you all!” Mei is still heading westwards towards the hill, apparently intent on taking it in force.

Pair off, us with the Tetrarch, the Chaffee with the BT and the Pz II and tankette. Each pair will move into the hills to the South and begin taking shots at the Centurions from their left flank. Each pair will alternate their attacks, emerging in a hull down position, acquiring their target and firing, before immediately pulling back out of sight. While they reposition to a new attack point, the other member of the pair will make their own attack, and so on so forth, constantly repositioning and leveraging our agility to the maximum to prevent ZES responding effectively, at least while on the move. Shots should be aimed for tracks, suspension and drive wheels, as the Centurion's achille's heel are its devilishly hard to repair tracks (removing them can in certain circumstances involve an explosive charge).

We'll make Mei pay attention to us, until she takes the bait and comes to deal with us, at which point we retreat West.

Man, poking at the hornets nest is fun but terrifying. I like it though. Wonder when tactical maneuvers will be kicking in.
>>
>>1395301
I find tactical manoeuvres are best saved for duels and brawls. At medium-long range, tankery is a facsimile of tank warfare, and tactics will trump talented tanking 9 times out of 10, but once you close to close range or pair off against your match, this facade breaks down and it becomes a contest of will, talent and crew coordination, with tanks whirling about on the absolute razor's edge of their performance, pushed to the limit in melees with point blank dodges, rams and jousts where tactics larger than defeating your immediate opponents are secondary at best, and more often left by the wayside wholly. Ellie excels at the former, but is only above average at the latter, which is probably why she hasn't proved that much of a sensation despite her successes.
>>
>>1395391
Oh I totally agree. This is why she's a Comish Pick not a top vote getter.

I expect that maneuvers are coming soon. But not yet. That's all.

Pulling off a triangle for example would be fun at some point.

I am sure that Mei considers that our one weakness anyways. That or our very evident weirdness towards anything remotely close to the spotlight.

“Maria, with me. Everyone else pair off. We’re moving into the south hills.” Your tanks move into the hills to the south, overlooking the area. While Mei continues her westward advance, you all get yourself into nice and neat defensive positions. Once everyone is in position, you yell, “Fire at will!” Your shots start peppering the Centurions. Some bounce and ding off of their armor. Some explode and disintegrate off of their wheels. The Centurions stop their advance and start reversing around.

“Oh no they don’t!” yells Maria. “Aim for the rear tank! Go!” Once you fire your shot, you retreat back, as do the others who fire off. The next in a pair fire off their own shots. While you may not be able to slug effectively with them, you can at least stall and annoy them. In this case, you’re causing them to stop. You take out your binoculars as you crest another small bump.

They’re not breaking formation, but they are turning to face you. They fire a coordinated mass volley at you. “Down!” screams Maria. Their high explosive shells shake the hill. Dust and smoke is kicked up from the impacts. Thankfully though 17 pounders aren’t known for high explosive performance like say an 88 or a 105. But eight of them can certainly shake things up. They start advancing up the hill, slowly. “Attack, attack!” You keep firing down at them again.

More shells bounce and explode off their frontal armor. One shell manages to find its way to a Centurion, shredding a track.

> MOBILITY KILL: JULIA BRUNET (Centurion Mk I)

They stop again. “Brace!” Another mass volley. The hill shakes again. The tank rumbles as everyone holds onto something. It’s like a Napoleonic line battle out here! They keep on advancing slowly, nearly to point blank range. From there, individual skill will carry the day. And they have some of the best stars in the Eastern League!

Suddenly, one of their engines explodes.

“Nice shot, gunner!” yells Cadmus. “Ellie, we’re here to help!” Mei and her Centurions suddenly pop smoke canisters from behind them. It appears they aim to obscure their sight from the Nashorn.

Have the Chaffees on the hill fire HE into the ZES smoke to disperse it quicker.

We've done our part and delayed them, now retreat, fire and movement in our pairs, first pair moves while two cover, then the second, then the third. Pull back South then West until we're behind the hill, out of sight, from there we'll climb up the hill and reinforce the Chaffees atop it, who along with Long Shot will keep the Centurions from pursuing us too brazenly.

“Fall back! Carolina, Hilda, fire HE at the smoke!”

“Got it!” yells Carolina. They fire their 75mm shells into the smoke clouds to break it up with explosive power. All in the name of getting Cadmus her sightline on the Centurions. The Nashorn fires again, unfortunately missing this time. The Centurions close in and crest the hill. But by that time, you’ve managed to retreat towards the hill. They start parking up in close order, facing their fronts towards the hill.

Meanwhile, it seems the fight out elsewhere has begun in earnest. You hear the popping shells here and there as the tanks start getting into slugfests with each other.

“They’re coming in!” yells Griselda. “Hold them!”

“Elodie, we’re coming in from the north,” says Iris. “Stand by.” Oh yes! Your reinforcements, good, good! Mei’s going to have it now! Once you’ve retreated behind the hill, you all make the climb. Once you’re on top, you see Iris and her team advancing down the road. And as for Mei, she faces her guns down on the hill.

“Brace!” They fire another mass volley at the hill. Another blast of HE to shake you all up. Thankfully, not much harm done.

Griselda says, “Oryola and the St. Gloriana Girls are pushing us!”

“We’re getting some knocks from the JWA girls too here,” says Meryl.

Right, the battle is on at its fullest. You look over at Mei and her Centurions. She’s managed to keep them together quite well despite the disadvantages. Hmph, you suppose they have discipline if nothing else. Mei is turned out of her tank, observing you all. You take a deep breath. Arisu Shimada eat your heart out.

They fire another volley. “Scatter!” Everyone pulls out of their cover, scattering around to avoid the new much more precisely aimed AP shots. “Shit!” yells Carolina. “That Chinese girl is hitting us hard! For being outnumbered!”

You’re not going to disappoint your parents out here. No sir. You’re going to win this All-Star game if you have to ace this entire lineup yourself!

Everybody on the two teams except Elly and Rozaliya won popular votes. Unless I'm an idiot. And also unless you were wondering who got the most votes out of everyone.

Okay, so I'm thinking 3 things can happen here: A) Mei can hold in the hills and try to slug it out with us, B) She can pull back North/East, or C) She can charge the hill from the South-East approach, where Long Shot can't support us and try to push us off before Iris and the other heavies can reach the peak and make the hill basically unassailable with her current numbers.

In the case of option A, I say we wait until Iris and co. arrive, then hand off the hill to her and pop smoke then zoom down EN4-1A North to M510 to outflank the EL push South into Meryl's position.

B means she'll be leaving an opening in the EL lines, either along M512 or the road running along the South of the map. We hand the hill over to Long Shot and let Iris take her tanks wherever she feels they're best used (maybe to do a slower version of our option A plan, pursue Mei, or stay on the hill) then take our fast element along whichever road Mei leaves undefended (unless she splits her tanks, in which case, whichever she leaves least defended while Iris attacks the others to keep them from reinforcing), race around behind the EL lines and start harrassing their positions from the side and rear, sowing chaos in their ranks.

For C things are a little tougher, as while we can likely inflict a few casualties as they advance across the open ground (even with smoke cover they'll be vulnerable at least a few times), once they climb some way up the hill and start closing the range, they'll have the edge in raw power. At that point we should counter charge and pull out all stops. This is because if she commits to an attack on the hill now, she'll never be able to pull back, and our counter charge will mean neither can we, so our two forces will likely have to fight until one or the other is annihilated. Our goal will be to disable or delay them until Long Shot and the heavies can come to the rescue.
>>
>>1397219
Given the first two options can be summarized as redeploy and go flank the remaining EL forces, is there any particular reason option C is different?
>>
>>1397416
Short answer: Because it's dealing with a different situation.

Long Answer: Because we can't give up this hill, if we do it will leave our Southern flank absolutely exposed, and with Meryl and Griselda both under serious pressure, it would put their fallback routes at serious risk if EL could observe and attack them from this advantageous position. In the other two situations, Mei is either not immediately threatening to take it and with heavier tanks to hold the hill, our particular force is better used elsewhere, or she is longer threatening the hill as she has retreated, in which case we leave Long Shot to observe enemy movements and take shots where she can. In C she is threatening it, obviously, so we need to stop her from taking it, despite being locally outmatched with our reinforcements not yet here and the Nashorn's LOS blocked.

Seems sound to me, I can support that.

“They’re advancing!” says Carolina. The Centurions start charging down the hill towards your own. They pop smoke bombs above their heads, clouding themselves in concealing smoke from Cadmus to the north. If they get closer, she won’t have a shot on them either. They fire another volley, forcing you all to take cover. “Ah, the bastards! They’re charging right at us, bold of them!”

“Do not count us out just yet,” says Maria. “The heavy tanks will be here soon!”

Iris says, “We’ll be there in fifteen minutes or so. Hold out until then.”

Right, you can’t just give up this hill. But on the other hand in a straight fight, you can’t take on all those Centurions. “Fire at them as they advance!” Your pairs all fire away at them. Unfortunately, most of your tanks being fast tanks, the shots simply plink or bounce off their frontal hulls. Only your gun has any chance of actual penetration as they come in over the open.

And Winona certainly makes it count. “On the way!” She fires. The shot smashes itself into the turret ring of a Centurion. The engine bank pops into flames.

> KO: MERIDIA SURENA (Centurion Mk I)
> KILL CREDITED TO: ELODIE R. ZUMWALT (Cromwell VIIw (LT) “Oliver”)

“We got one!” yells Stack. “Get some ya greedy fucks!”

The formation simply closes in tight past the wreckage of their own. They advance in a single firing line now, with Mei at the center. “Focus on Mei-“ They fire another volley. “Down!” you yell. You grab on. A 17 pounder shot bounces against the side of your turret. The inside echoes and roars from the impact. Everyone screams and holds their ears.

“Ow! What the hell!?” screams Ingrid.

“Ah! That was a close one!” says Stack.

You pick up your binoculars again, observing now. Mei is observing you as well through binoculars. She pulls them down, then points directly at you, yelling into her throat mic. You take a look at all of the Centurions and oh shit they’re all aiming directly at you. They fire another volley. “Reverse!” you scream. Josephina reverses the tank behind some cover. The AP shells shred the ground around you, kicking up dirt and dust.

“Ellie! Let’s charge them!” says Carolina. “We can do some damage at close range!”

“Yeah, yeah!” says Hilda. “Like the Polish Hussars!”

“Or JEB Stuart!” Carolina responds.

C it is, all stops be a pullin'. Charge down the hill using the incline to acclerate ourselves, then execute a Bermuda attack with Carolina and Maria Da Silva. However Mei's a Shimada disciple herself, she'll recognise the movements and attempt to counter, at which point we switch things up, instead of using the synchronised movements of the Bermuda attack to simply take shots at the enemy, we'll use them to cover the start of our Death Blossom run.
>>
>>1398773
Uh, Danon. We left Carolina on the Hill with Hilda. Is it wise to have her removed from her dug in position?
>>
>>1398773
While I agree, might I suggest adding...
> TARGET WEAKPOINT (10 CP)
To try and negate Mei's knowledge/counter?

She's leading this platoon, so stalling her in any way would be wise.
>>
>>1398773
I suggest we get Legs Smith instead?
>>
>>1398787
We are currently on that same hill now anon. We're all on the hill, and all 8 lights are going to charge the Centurions, we're committing as fully to this counter attack as Mei has to her push.
>>
>>1398722
>>1398773
I support this but instead of Carolina, I want Legs Smith to Participate since Carolina is dug in with the Nashorn
>>
>>1398803
> since Carolina is dug in with the Nashorn
She's not, she's dug in on this hill, we left the two Chaffees on this hill.
>>
>>1398820
and we're commiting all of our fast element into this even the two chafees protecting the Nashorn?
>>
>>1398827
The two Chaffees ARE NOT protecting the Nashorn, they're dug in on the same hill we are, 501/503, while the Nashorn is alone on a smaller hill to our North. We need every single tank if we want to with this fight, so committing all of them is the best choice.
>>
>>1398845
Ah, Okay. My mistake. Well on the bright side we are only facing 6 Centurions and one of them was disabled to its not participating in the offensive for now.

So 5 of them....yay.

All of your light tanks rush in towards the Centurions, full speed. “ATTACK!” screams Carolina. Everyone yells and hollers as they close the gap.

However, what happens next is quite interesting. They stop their advance, and immediately back up and start backing into each other. They back their engines up and point their hulls outwards. “IT’S A SCHILTRON, SCATTER!” yells Carolina. Your charge is immediately parted in two directions as the three points facing towards you fire.

Lobo unfortunately is hit by a 17 pounder. Her tankette is splashed, sending her bumping and crashing every which away into the formation.

> KO: SABINA LOBO (L3/35 cc “Wolf”)
> KILL CREDITED TO: FREYA WARD (Centurion Mk I)

“Carolina, Legs, on me!” you yell. “We’ll do a Bermuda attack on them!” Your Cromwell, flanked by two Chaffees, races around the Schiltron. The other light tanks race around in the opposite direction, taking potshots into the formation here and there. Finally, you see a Centurion tracking you all. “Alright, now!” You all powerslide left, skidding forward. The Centurion tracks Smith, then tracks you, but then suddenly finds Carolina in her sights. A sudden shift! “Fire!”

An APCR shot travels through the Centurion’s turret front. The white flag pops.

> KO: ERI BARKMANN (Centurion Mk I)
> KILL CREDITED TO: ELODIE R. ZUMWALT (Cromwell VIIw (LT) “Oliver”)

You keep on spinning around the Schiltron, getting misses from 17 pounder shots here and there. Suddenly, Carolina is hit. “We’re dead!” Carolina screams as her Chaffee spins out into a ditch. “A glorious death it was!” It crashes.

> KO: CAROLINA “SWAMP FOX” GREENE
> KILL CREDITED TO: FREYA WARD (Centurion Mk I)

The other group is shot up as well. The BT-7 is hit in the side, sending it skidding around onto its side. “HONOR AND GLORY!” screams Brunhilde as her BT-7 crashes into the same ditch Carolina ended up in.

> KO: BRUNHILDE KOWALSKI (BT-7 “Kasztanka”)
> KILL CREDITED TO: MEXI XIANG (Centurion MK I)

Another shot goes out, hitting Pilla square in the turret. “We’re blind!” yells Pilla. “EAT THIS YOU BASTARDS!” Pilla rams her Panzer II into the front of a Centurion. Only result is that it disables herself.

> KO: YMIRA PILLA (Panzer II Ausf. L “Boy Wonder”)
> KILL CREDITED TO: CHARLOTTE TUFFIN (Centurion Mk I)

Once the charge is broken it seems, they break their Schiltron. The Centurions all immediately begin gunning for you. Oh shit. “Now, Josephina!” You rush in towards their front. “Now, now!” The tank starts spinning left, with the turret now traversing as well. “Go!” You hang on for dear life. “Fire at will!”

Its why I suggested targeting a weakpoint. Try to make it one less. Or at least 4.5 tanks instead of 5.

More APCR shots spew out as your tank spins around in their formation. One finds the side of a Centurion.

Another hits the track of another Centurion.

> MOBILITY KILL: FREYA T. WARD

Finish off Freya first, with only 2 tanks, Mei will have to run the gauntlet under Long Shot's gun. We wait till it has her in sight, then hit her with the Target Weakpoint, Long Shot finishes the job, the other lights can finish off the remaining Centurion, then the only one left will be the mobility kill from the earlier fight. She'd have been better off fighting to the end, this way's just going to throw away her remaining tanks.
>>
>>1398971
I am with you Danon, target weakpoint on Mei or the other centurion, whoever we have a better shot at. Long Shot is on sniper detail.

If no shot is available, back to the hill, I fear a trap and Iris isn't here yet.

> APCR Shot (2/5)
> Don’t let her get away!
> TARGET WEAKPOINT

“Don’t let her get away!” You start pursuing. But before you do, you turn your tank turret and quickly put a shot into the side of Freya’s Centurion. She pops her head out of the hatch, jeering at you indistinctly over the roar of engines and explosions of battle.

> KO: FREYA T. WARD (Centurion Mk I)
> KILL CREDITED TO: ELODIE R. ZUMWALT (Cromwell VIIw (LT))

You keep on pursuing Mei until you get a shot. “Winona, hit her weakspot!”

“Got it!” Your tank fires. The shot slams into their rear turret, causing them to grind to a halt. The shock of that shot must have stunned her crew, only briefly though. Just long enough however for Cadmus to come through. The shot slams into the side of her tank, popping the white flag.

> KO: MEI XIANG (Centurion Mk I)
> KILL CREDITED TO: LIDYA CADMUS (Sdkfz 164 Nashorn “Long Shot”) *LEGENDARY*

“Got her!” says Cadmus.

“You actually took out Mei and Freya?” asks Dix. “Damn! I was hoping I’d get a shot at Freya! Good work anyway!” Iris, Perrine, and the other heavy tanks promised arrive on the hill, and begin cleaning up. Iris fires her gun at the last remaining Centurion.

> KO: JULIA BRUNET (Centurion Mk I)
> KILL CREDITED TO: IRIS BLACKBOURNE (Churchill IV “James”)

The other Centurion comes charging down at Iris, who lets it pass by point blank. A failed shot point blank gives her time to put a round into its rear.

> KO: EMILA LISCUM (Centurion Mk I)
> KILL CREDITED TO: IRIS BLACKBOURNE (Churchill IV “James”)

“We’ve arrived,” says Iris.

Perrine yells, “Damn, we missed the party!”

> KO: JENNA HALIFAX (Sherman VC Firefly)
> KILL CREDITED TO: KIM-LY NGUYEN (ISU-152)

“The party’s still on around here!” says Griselda. “We could use some help! Oryola’s pushing through!”

“We need help around here too!” says Meryl. “The Frenchies are actually putting up a good fight!”

Sorry, I should have been more clear. Meryl is central and Gris-Gris is North along the coast, correct?
>>
>>1399148
> Other
EL don't have a Southern Flank forcce anymore, so I propose some repositioning. First Long Shot moves up here to Hill 501/503. Then Meryl gives ground, slowly, pulling back slightly South and East, until she's basically on the M501. Normally this would be far outside the range of any tanks on the hill, but Long Shot is not any tank, and its flanking sniper fire will help pin the tanks attacking Meryl so that Iris can put into action the second part of the plan, taking her Heavies North up 4-1A, then M510, straight into the side and rear or the enemy as they advance. They'll suddenly be caught in a vice between Meryl's girls and Iris and co, they'll have to break out and retreat immediately or risk annihilation.

Meanwhile, we, along with the remaining lights, will go East, and swing up the 512 in a wide flank to hit the Northern force in the rear eventually or cut off the central forces retreat. Why 512 and not 4-1A? Because EL will undoubtedly either observe us beginning our flank or guess we'll do as much and send their own fast tanks to stop us, so we want to keep our flank wide and increase the chances of running into them where the rest of their team cannot support/reinforce them, giving us the best chance of winning the ensuing high speed brawl.

>>
>>1399234
Bottom X.
>>
>>1399241
Alright, I can agree with this plan. Just hope Oryola isn't plotting some trick pincer of her own at the hills sandwiching 512. You have to figure the announcement of Mei's squad's total defeat is going to cause her to reposition a bit, it's is her game of choice.
>>
>>1399251
We're fast enough that we'll be through that gap before she can reposition probably, and I'd be pretty disappointed in Gris or Meryl if they couldn't take advantage of Oryola pulling more than 3 or 4 tanks out of the main pushes.
>>
>>1399255
True, though this is the all star game, they aren't exactly dealing with the lower dregs of Orleans, Kuromorimine, Kursk, and Gloriana. I'd just be mindful of it, that's all.

Also, get ready for a battle with Rosehip, surely.

Agreed, especially if it means we learn a new move because of it.

I ain't above co-opting skills from this fight. Hell its the one thing I appreciated in our first duel with Mei, of which I'm sure will be many.

After all, by technicality, Ellie and Mei are still at even records, with a mutual KO and a KO not attributed to Ellie, even if it was executed by her tactics.

“Are they taking the bait?” you ask.

“Yeah!” says Meryl. “The Frenchies are pursuing us!”

“Good work!” says Griselda. “Keep them divided, we can start picking them apart!”

> KO: ELEANOR D’AQUITAINE (Panzer V Panther Ausf. G “Antioch”)
> KILL CREDITED TO: MERYL MOFFMEISTER (Grizzly I w/ 17 pndr “Harry”)

“Scratch one Frenchie!” yells Meryl. As that is happening, the heavies and the lights are now moving up. It’s time to perform a large scale encirclement. You grip the edge of your hatch, waiting as you move up along the high roads around to the northern group. Iris will penetrate the rear of the central group. Oryola seems to not have her characteristic defensive play in today.

However…

You see Rozaliya, backed up by Rosehip and…

That’s it? You look back. Olivia Cromwell and Archer in the back, at cruising speed. Must be reserve. Fine then!

Rozaliya’s SU-76 fires. The shot splashes in front of you. “WHOA!” You duck down. The fires engulf your tank briefly. Rozaliya slides left, then immediately speeds off to your side. Rosehip to the other side as well. Rozaliya suddenly powerslides again, swooping in. “Fire!” you yell. You fire at her. The shot misses, a good dodge by her. She fires again.

Another incendiary shot. This time it impacts your tank directly. You flinch, keeping your hands off the metal. “Ah! Fuck, it’s hot in here!” yells Winona.

“She’s cooking us!” Stack shouts. Rozaliya’s engine revs, charging at you. Wait… You take a good look at it. She suddenly starts sliding, yet... The way those tracks move, the way they...

SHE'S USING YOUR MANEUVER

> ROZALIYA IS PERFORMING A TACTICAL MANEUVER: THE ZUMWALT SLIDE

You look back to see Rosehip as well. She fires. “NOOO!” Maria dives in front of the shot, tanking it for you. Her craft goes spinning out of control.

> KILL CREDITED TO: ROSEHIP (Crusader III “Thunderchild)

One should not step into the master's dojo and attempt to beat them at their own game.

The Zumwalt slide is special in its length, which puts especial strain on the tracks and suspension, so we'll counter it by leveraging that weakeness, turn hard into Rozaliya's slide, and clip her rear left idler wheel on our way past, detracking her, at the speed she's going in a slide like that, she'll lost control and probably crash out, even if she doesn't though, she'll be a casemate without mobility and therefore helpless. We'll use the force of the impact on our own tank to kick our front into the start of our own drift, loop back in and Zumwalt hook Rosehip on our way back around, using Roza's out of control vehicle as cover, leaving her no time to react. Show them how it's done.

Ellie is kind of a conflicted tanker. Blue-Collar modest, humble, and pathologically unwilling to accept praise, and yet once challenged like that, I guess she kinda wants to prove herself a bit.

While still also wondering how the fuck Durocher saw her as ROTY/Future of Tanery, or how Arisu sees her as worthy to learn Shimada-Ryu.

She's a very conflicted person.

“Go now!” Josephina takes Oliver to the limit. Alright, you’ll cross her! If she wants to party, you’ll bring the rain! Or- musi- FUCK IT. You charge in towards her. As he begins her slide, you see it there. “Now! Turn!” You slide in right, then slam into her tank. Her suspension, as strong as it is, simply bursts free from the impact. She goes spinning around and crashes into a small rock outside of the road.

“Nice!” says Winona.

“Alright, let’s finish Rosehip off and-“ Rosehip starts powering ahead. “Go, go!” Right, you’ll take her down with a slide of your own! She starts powering forward. Here we go!

Suddenly, Rosehip stops going the way you thought she would. Huh? She starts going towards Rozaliya and the rock. What- She’s not going to-

Rosehip drives her tank off the rock and up Rozaliya’s front, crushing her gun in the process. Her Crusader is now flying through the air, directly at you. Oh shit. “EVADE!” you scream. Josephina slides the tank around, completing the slide. Rosehip fires her gun. The Six Pounder bounces off of your turret side. She smashes her front against the ground and capsizes onto her top.

Both tanks pop their flags.

19 vs 20
>>
>>1399667
Oh, Rosehip...

20 CP...and we still have to try and get past two tanks and try and complete the encirclement...

Looks like we're going to have to lay low...

> INTUITION: - 2 CP
> Deploy Smoke (3/3)
> Retreat!

Best I can immediately think of is trying to pull them away and into Long Shot's range.

At best, we can snake them into the range, at worse, they don't bite and we have to find a new point of entry...time would not be our friend though and Gris would be almost certainly in a bind, not counting the fact that Meryl's push is delayed...

No environment kills available to us right now, huh?
>>
>>1399667
> Deploy Smoke (3/3)
> Charge at them!
> EXECUTE TACTICAL MANEUVER: SUPPRESSIVE BURST (- 10 CP)
Tactical maneuvers really don't seem to be giving the best returns for the effort this match but I can't think of a better option.

Pop smoke, pincer charge, last Chaffee goes right, we go left, when we break concealment put a trio of rounds into the two tanks to keep them pinned, giving us time to get into close range, go for the side shots.

Schteel, you might wanna start KOing more of both teams off screen, or this match'll go all week.
>>
>>1399720
Well, it is the all star game, Danon...I'm kinda concerned that we have blown our load a bit here...

But I suppose that makes sense with the level of competition we have to face. The playoffs are going to be rough as shit.

And here I thought that ZES would be the final boss of LGA, Oryola's tactics are really screaming final boss tier.
>>
>>1399747
I'm kind of assuming we'll make enough CP off this match to not really be concerned that we spent a bunch, it being a show match and all.

On the level of competition it's more just that our maneuvers seem to be giving pretty flat returns considering the assumed calibre of our teammates, who despite also being All-Stars like our opponents, have so far been, with the exception of Long Shot and Iris, basically non-entities. Even if our picks aren't going to take out elite enemies, I'd like to have seen more of our fellows taking advantage of the openings we present or making their own moves. As is they've really not been any better than our regular teammates would've been, if not worse.
>>
>>1399807
Not terribly surprising. Two teams of elites who know what they're up against and no chance to practice and get used to each other. Everybody's a little uncertain, and unnerved when things go badly for their team. Plus no one wants to risk over-committing to an attack to find that they don't have the type of back-up they expected.
>>
>>1399807
Oh yeah, we'll be making some CP off of this, at this rate we're on an MVP pace, and nobody is really coming close.

As to the activity of our team mates, well, that's mainly due to never really having worked together as a team like this. It's usually how all all-star games go.

For the sake of peace and time, I'll switch to your plan listed here. It's not optimal, but it's really the only plan I can think of. We're basically charging into brick walls, hoping it to move.

>>1399720
Switching.

“Go, go, go!” You pop smoke in front of you and Hilda as you go storming down the road. Another 17 pounder shot flies past you. With that, the two of you split up and separate. You to the left, Hilda to the right. The two of you squeeze in around the smoke cloud and storm in from the sides. “Alright!” You duck down, taking a shell. Stack as well carries two under arm. “Let’s go!”

Winona fires a suppressive trio of rounds at the two tanks. Inaccurate, but the point is not to kill, it’s to pin them. Olivia’s Cromwell spins a little in place, unsure. While Gwynedd’s Challenger simply starts reversing back. The Chaffee starts zooming in from the other side, playing a bugle call signaling charge.

Gwynedd’s Challenger simply blows her out of the water.

> KO: HILDA BLASKOWITZ (M24 Chaffee “Conde”)

Oh goddamn it. They turn their turrets to you. Alright, fine. “Fire, fire!” One shot goes bouncing off the Cromwell, which starts charging at you. Gwynedd keeps on reversing, deciding to build distance it seems. The other Cromwell fires at you and are they going to ram you what the fuck!? “BRACE!” you scream.

Her tank smashes into yours. Everyone groans, a little shaken but not stunned. You all pick yourselves up and let your tanks move away from each other. Fine, fine.

Olivia pokes her head out of the hatch, then stands up fully. “Haha! So you are the America across the water!” yells Olivia. “Fear me, for I am Olivia Cromwell, master of the Cruiser line and inheritor of the-“

The Cromwell suddenly is flipped onto its side by a massive explosion. Your own Cromwell is thrown back a few feet by the blast. You almost get a bit of hearing damage from that. What the hell!? You look over.

Then see Perrine’s AVRE coming in to reinforce you. “Iris sent me to help! And help we shall! Let’s do this, cheri!” Perrine must have found a car just laying around in the battlefield, because she’s apparently decked out her frontal armor with improvised armor plates built out of that unfortunate car’s red plates and chassis. She starts firing her .50 at Gwynedd.

You look over at Gwynedd’s Challenger. Alright, let’s do this then!

And do it quick!

Good show GS, I'm going to be lurking a bit more tomorrow as opposed to contributing, but I'll do what I can tomorrow.

God bless Perrine and her witchcraft.

As it stands right now it looks like it's 15 WL vs 18 EL...

And we're down to 10 points. Period.

This is not exactly looking great for us, we're going to be flying by the seat of our pants now, and I think we'll have to save our points for one final strike when the circle is complete.

So I guess the biggest plan is to let Perrine take charge a bit to finish off Archer, and move onto wrapping up the show for Meryl. We can't keep doing everything by ourselves now, so we'll have to play a bit more cagey and utilize our allies, again, maybe Perrine has a maneuver we can pull that costs her the invisible CP threshold. That said we ABSOLUTELY MUST stop Alesia's 75/18, it's clearly the biggest threat on EL right now, and she's been tearing through Meryl's force like it was paper.

Personally, if there was a time to pull off the final use of CP, it's in the theoretical attempt to loop over Oryola, with one lockdown to try and bury as many tanks as possible.

One other thing that needs to be done, move up the Nashorn, it's not getting any purchase where it's standing right now, If we take out the rearguard, it has to move up.

13 vs 18
>>
>>1400074
My counting was off, man the odds are a bit more...dicey right now.

Oryola's tactics are proving frustrating.
>>
>>1400057
It's 13 vs 18 that last engagement frankly fucked us hard
>>
>>1400105
Agreed, we charged into a brick wall, like Oryola planned. And the results went, kind of as expected. But I couldn't really see how else we were going to pull that one off. I mean, I don't think anybody expected that Archer and Olivia would chase...though I suppose our brief interaction with her suggests otherwise...

>>
>>1400224
Well yeah, this is what I'm saying, it needs to snipe more, I am assuming that it's just not at a good angle to shoot, either that or everyone is doing their damndest to dodge her shots. It's why I'm suggesting it changes its position, because it's currently not working as intended.
>>
>>1400243
Yeah but it will take more time and the more time we waste the more losses we fet
>>
Well, I expected that once Mei was dead the whole thing would blow over easily so I buggered off.

The hell happened? Can someone summarize?
>>
>>1400414
We split the heavys to help Meryl while we moved to flank up North. One problem. We ran into Rosehip and Ulanova. Along with a few others. It feels like all our manouvers aren't quite gaining the purchase expected, and Meryl and Gris, while holding their own, are suffering through Kursk and Jean D'Orleans pressure.

We have 10 CP left. And we have to hope that the other WL all stars wake up. Perrine has come to our rescue upon near death.

Danon and I have tried to do our best, but yeah, the lack of other anons being involved has left us at difficult impasses.
>>
>>1400449
I participated but frankly the ideas were good so I went along them them. However, I feel the deck is stacked against us
>>
>>1400503
It does. But I can hope that Meryl evolves into the MEGAMERYL that has destroyed teams by herself...

Or other people step up. This is time for us to be the accessory to Perrine's madness. We can't be the only part of the team. So we'll see what the commanders can do.
>>
>>1400449
Is that us on M512?
>>
>>1400567
Yes it is.
>>
>>1400581
Ambitious.

Well still not much in the way of strategy from here on out really. Get past the Challenger and get in their rear.

Now if everything goes south and we don't get there in time then things get interesting.
>>
Made some minor updates to the team pastebin, mostly in the training programs section, just bringing it back to currency after having neglected it for months: https://pastebin.com/bUU2v0z8

Particularly I think we should set aside some time at least a few times in the next couple weeks to practice the Zumwalt Hook to both get comfortable with it and perfect its form, then start looking for permutations/variations to improve/build on it.
>>
>>1400449
You and Danon have done well. I suck at tactics so I don't have anything to offer. At times, I'm having difficulty following the action, so I really don't want to offer suggestions that are both bad, and based on misinterpretation.
>>
damn Gazala Genoesse carrying the eastern league right here
>>
>>1400449
Yeah, it feels like we are getting gyped on our spends. It also seems like we are the only one doing anything. I'm probably going to check out for the remainder of this thread, as it has become an exercise in frustration
>>
>>1401689
To be fair, when we were facing Mei, our tank was the only one that had penetrating power.

While Orolya is doing well either due to bullshit charisma or the fact a lot of her school got it to the eastern league and can coordinate better then other teams
>>
>>1401901
Their tanks are also very much better than ours. The team got stuck into a head on engagement that they were always unlikely to win.

In fact, I wonder if the team as a whole shouldn't disengage and regroup. Not normally the best of ideas but our tanks are marginally faster than our opponents.
>>
>>1401976
they'll pick us off, and we are doing a fighting retreat to draw them in. Maybe that is why we are suffering so many casualities.
>>
>>1402045
I'd believe that statement except the lines haven't moved since Sunday.

We're taking far too many casualties. It's getting to the point where even if we manage to punch through and get to their rear for the encirclement, they'll still win by virtue of more and better tanks. We're not there YET but it's getting close.

“Perrine, please tell me you have something in your big bag of tricks!”

“Hold on! Get behind me, cheri!” Josephina pulls your tank in behind Perrine. Gwynedd fires a shot at Perrine. The first shot deflects off the side of the turret, ripping off some improvised plate armor. S he fires again, this time the shot explodes off the front. A brilliant display of flare lights shoots out from Perrine’s frontal armor. “Haha! I knew investing in this would be worth it!”

“What is that!?” yells Stack.

“We packed our frontal armor with light explosives! Harmless to us, and it blows up the shells before they can hit us!” yells Perrine.

“Isn’t that against the rules!?” says Josephina.

“THERE’S NOTHING IN THE RULES SAYING I CAN’T COVER MY TANK WITH EXPLOSIVES!” yells Perrine. Her Churchill continues the advance, soaking another shot from Gwynedd’s 17 pounder. You start closing in past 500 meters, 400 meters, 300 meters! Alright! “Now, go!” You swoop in from the side and fire an APCR shot. This shot whacks Gwynedd’s frontal armor, KO’d.

If anything just delay her as much as possible for the others to catch up and clean up

> Move to cut off her retreat.
> APDS Shot (5/5)

You hurry to intercept her on one of the long roads north. That will likely be her destination. Thankfully, you don’t have to decelerate too hard, because whatever Perrine feeds her Churchill is making it run quickly. It wasn’t fast, but it was good enough for a cutoff. There, you find her retreating eastwards. A few scarce buildings were in the way, but you manage to find a good spot to snipe. Perrine however has to get closer owing to the business of being in an AVRE.

So what you do instead is allow Perrine to take the first shot at the front tank, then you at the rear. They’ll see you coming miles away, but Perrine’s shot should shock the column into stopping.

She fires the dustbin. It shatters the road ahead of them, sending the lead tank into the crater it makes. You fire another APDS shot. It lodges itself into the rear tank’s turret ring. No KO, but it looks like their turret is now jammed frontwards. Excellent. The column has stopped, and it appears that the none KGB tanks are now stopped in place and blocking the Kursk tanks from maneuvering effectively. They’re confused!

Not so excellent however. Oryola powers around the crater. She fires an HE shot at you. “BRACE!” The shot shakes the tank back. Everyone screams as they’re thrown around the tank. You hear a loud hissing noise from the rear. “What the hell is that!?”

“Something got knocked loose, let me check!” says Stack. Perrine starts falling back. Oryola pops an illumination flare.

“Gah!” You avert your eyes from the brightness, then scan the area.

Perrine however is blown to pieces.

Something is jarred loose so I fear running may not solve much. But activating any smoke we can to hide us while moving only a little and blasting them could prove to be the holding up maneuver that can buy the other 11 tanks some time to get here.

“A well-fought game on both sides,” you say. “Let’s just hope they can win this.”

And hope you do. You and everyone else peer out of the hatches and watch the rest of the match continue on. Griselda has arrived with her battered and beaten force, as does Meryl as well. Oryola has taken the last reserve of ISU-152s and backed them up onto a small hill. You watch as Griselda and company start closing in. Orange Pekoe in her Churchill sidescrapes against Oryola’s ISU-152. They fire away at the incoming tanks.

The rest fail to make an impression on the thick armor of the ISUs. And worse still, Lidya Cadmus in the Nashorn fell behind due to trouble with the treads. They would be in the back while the rest had to slug it out and keep them from running.

The ISU-152s fire again.

Griselda’s Sherman was now on its side, while the rest of the formation had more or less dispersed. They were now trying to seek cover to try and slug it out with the ISU-152s. Meryl Hoffmeister and Iris Blackbourne however were advancing. The two of them fire.

You, Meryl, Iris, and Griselda stand atop the stage opposite four of your fellow opponents. They were Oryola, Alesia Abandonato, Rozaliya Ulanova, and Mei Xiang. Commissioner Durocher stands in between you all, with eight judges holding small cases in their hands. “We are here to honor eight of the top All-Stars of the match!” says the Commissioner. Everyone applauds you all happily. You can even see your fanclub in the audience holding up a banner with your name on it and pictures of you. Your Dad is next to them. Ugh, he gave them pictures.

Commissioner Durocher continues. “These eight girls represent some of the best that NATO Tankery has. To honor them, we present NATO’s newest accolade for excellence in the field of High School Tankery, the NATO Silver Shell Award!” Thankfully, it wasn’t a full-sized silver shell. It was instead a pin that you eight would attach to your collar, like a medal of honor of sorts. It was a silver shell wreathed in an olive branch, simple yet stylish. “And we now present you our All-Star Game MVPs, Elodie R. Zumwalt!”

A very polite applause with some shouting and cheers comes as you step forward.

“And Oryola Kuznetsov!”

A much LOUDER applause deafens yours by comparison as she steps forth. The two of you smile and wave happily. Oryola shakes your hand. “Excellent work, solnyshka!”

Commissioner Durocher places both medals around your neck, gilded medals with engravings of a Mark I tank on it. “Your NATO All-Star game MVPs!”

“Thanks, Mom.” You gently kiss her on the cheek back. “I’ll just keep on supporting the team. It’s really them who do the hard work, you know?”

Stack folds her arms, grinning smugly. “Ha, she admits it. I’m the best!” Ingrid slaps Stack upside the head. “Ow!”

As the sun starts setting, you realize just how long this All-Star Game took. Must’ve been hours. Your stomach is growling. It’s going to be a late dinner by the time you get back to LGA. As you start walking with your parents and your crew, you see someone in the crowds of the fair grounds.

Arisu.

You blink, looking at her. “Uh.” You stop them, they look to you. “Hold on, I need to uh, do something very quickly. I’ll catch up with you guys.”

“Don’t take too long, Ellie!” says Winona. They continue on without you.

“Yeah. I’ll go ahead and cook you some seafood tonight at our place!” says Mom. Oooh, now you know you can’t take too long.

You step to the side and follow Arisu. She leads you down between some pavilions, where you can be afforded some privacy. “Arisu.” She looks to you, stoic as usual. “What did you think of my performance?”

“Impressive,” says Arisu. “I wanted to personally congratulate you on your Silver Shell, and your MVP. They are well-deserved,” she says softly. You blush a little. “I believe that-“

“Shimada.” You blink, you turn around to see Mei Xiang, standing there. Arisu steps back, shocked to see Mei. “So, not only are you bold enough to teach Elodie Zumwalt your ways, you show up personally to congratulate her? Laughable.”

“Mei, I-“

Mei stomps her foot. “Do NOT address me with such familiarity.” She huffs. “The Shimada Household is so desperate for people yet it still refuses to admit its own failings.” Arisu looks down, clenching her fists. “Pathetic.”

“How about you two tell me about what’s going on?” you ask. They look at you. Mei does not look happy at having to contextualize things, while Arisu seems sorry you’re being dragged into it. “I’m not part of this. I just want to learn how to be a better tanker.”

Arisu hugs her Boko bear tight. “The Shimada Household is failing.” What?

Mei nods. “Since the year 2000, the Shimada Household, even the Nishizumi Household as well, have been failing to draw in new students into their dojos.” She glances at Arisu. “There comes a time every now and again that student enrollment does not peak past the previous year. But then Miho Nishizumi happened.”

“And she proved that you do not need the special training of either household to be a dominant tanker,” Arisu explains. “With Kuromorimine’s defeat in the Nationals, then Miho’s loss in the ITL World Tournament, and my defeat against Miho beforehand.” Arisu looks down. “Our classes used to number in the hundreds, now our school is lucky to educate more than fifteen people this year.”

“And as a result, they’ve fallen on hard times, severely hard times,” says Mei. “When I was enrolled in their school, I noted this. I wanted to change it! And I wanted to save the Shimada Household but bringing them into the modern age! But your mother expelled me for my radical ideas!”

Arisu glares at Mei. “You wanted to bribe foreign players into playing for our school! You wanted to squander our money on buying the top-of-the-line tanks!”

“So what!?” Mei glares back at Mei. “You think you’re going to produce a hundred babies who will become Senshadou prodigies like you!? You need to grow up. And accept that the world has no place for your mystical arts anymore.”

“And you need to learn that you can’t buy a championship either, Mei Xiang!” The two of them strike lightning just staring angrily at each other.

Look, there are always going to be prodigies and they won't always be born to traditional families either. See Mika.

At the same time money is important to get the tanks needed to fight with. See Mika again to see what happens when you lack money.

"Neither of you is wholly wrong, but at the same time you're certainly not right. There is still a place for the Shimada-ryuu in Tankery, you and I are both walking talking proof of that Mei. But at the same time, it can no longer stand alone Arisu, the school must modernise and open its mind to new ideologies, the tankers of tomorrow cannot simply stake their play on their skill in a brawl or any other one single tactic. Shimada must learn to draw both your teachings and your students from a broader selection, and doing that means you're going to need to incentivise players to join your school, money is a way to do that, even if I don't wholly agree with it."

It sounds to me like both of you need an adjustment in perspective. I'm sorry if this is conceated, but with a crew that is in its first year, a suboptimal tank, and stiff opposition, I managed a silver shell. Could it not be that both of you have missed something?
>>
>>1403007
>“Arisu is right, Mei.”

Miho won with a questionable lineup. Good tanks do not ensure good tankers. All you get are mercenaries with no loyalty to anything but themselves. And not all good offers are about money.

As for not needing the Senshado schools; they have a place as a core of training. Miho had that training, then deviated from it.

The formal schools need to adapt to what's happening.
>>
>>1403036
Not done yet.

A school isn't about producing the best, it's about becoming the best one can be. Even those born with natural talent need help to bring out their abilities. To judge a school purely be how often they win or succeed misses the point entirely.

Your eye twitches for a second. “My point is, Arisu’s school does need to change. It needs to be able to accept change. But Mei, Arisu is right in that you can’t just throw money at this. What Miho did wasn’t with an All-Star lineup of girls with the best tanks money can buy. They were just random girls who decided that Tankery would be cool. And as for Miho, she had that Nishizumi training, heck she is a Nishizumi. But she broke away from that and guess what, they won against two of the major Japanese Senshadou households, with the lessons of the Nishizumi training. There’s a place for the old households, but they can’t stay the same forever either.”

Arisu is silent. She looks to Mei, who simply shakes her head silently. “My mother will not allow it. Nor will she allow Mei to ever come back to the Household.”

“Good.” Mei snorts, turning around. “It’s not like I want to come back.” She starts walking away. “You sit there, and you feel old.”

With that, Mei is gone. Arisu looks to you. “Elodie. I appreciate what you are trying to do.”

“I only want what’s best,” you say. “Drama has no place in a sport like this.”

“This is more than drama,” she says. “But, I will not burden you further.” She places her hand on your arm, nodding to you. “Congrats on your win, again. I apologize for Mei and my behavior.” You shake your head. She doesn’t have to, honest.

“Ellie!” Mom waves to you. “Come on, we’re leaving. Who you talking to?”

You- And of course Arisu is gone.

You sigh. “Nobody.” You walk over to Mom. “We’re having lobster?”

“Sure! Anything you want, MVP!” Mom runs her hand roughly through your hair. You smile a little. At the same time though, you can’t help but feel like you’re now part of something else. Something bigger than you.

That's it for the All-Star game. The next thread of LGA2 will pick up in-quest tomorrow. Not sure if I'll do weekday this week but if I can, I will. If not, I'll let you know. Thanks for playing.

Great thread GS. I kind of look foreward to trying to figure out how to resolve this schism. Not sure how, Arisu seems slightly willing, Mei...well considering that she's reaching final boss tier and we face her soon even out of playoffs, we'll see.

For now, lets get our Comet after hugging our extremely broken baby, and work on subquests for Josie and Ingrid.

Kinda would love to see how the tankery world reacted to this match.

Not to mention the post All-Star festivities after this match would have been golden to see.

And with the All-Star game. Who topped voting in all categories?
