‘There is no such thing as paranoia. Your worst fears can come true at any moment.’ You toss in turn in the cot you were sleeping in. You were finally able to fall asleep, no matter how uneasy, after escaping your home. After you killed those monsters with only a simple verse of a bible. The entire thing has had an effect on you, and sleep was much harder to come by. Maybe it was just because you knew you were in a different place, maybe it was guilt, maybe it was the fear of the other monsters that hide amongst you. Your eyes flutter open, dawn hasn’t even come, only the excess light of the sun off the horizon gives the church room you were staying in any semblance of light.

You bring your hands to your eyes, well you try to. Something is holding your other han-

Something is holding your other hand, and that something is another hand.

"Jack..." a familiar voice whispers your name.

So if monsters are real, wouldn't the bible verses only work on demon family monsters? it would be weird if you could kill/banish an angel by reciting a verse from the bible.

>>1410589
She’s back! Nickole is back and is going to kill you! You attempt to scream for help, but you find your voice holds no volume. Did she do something? You try to struggle out of the succubus’ grip, but you find her hold to be as solid as concrete. Your desperate attempts to get away only spur Nickole on as she get on the bed and despite her smaller stature hold you down by straddling you. It’s almost as if a boulder is crushing you under its weight. This makes no sense she is nowhere near the size to be this heavy. Did she sap your strength or something?

She leans down closer to your face. “Jack~” she releases her grip on your hand. “You killed me.” Her smile is indescribable, but you see a malice you had never seen before in her eyes.

You probably shouldn’t have focused on her smile as her absent hands find their way to your neck. She is choking you. You desperately gulp for air as the succubus attempts to strangle the life out of you. You feel your eyes start to water and your lungs soon burn for air. Your struggles seem useless as the statue on top of you refuses to move.

I think this quest is either gonna end early with all these bad rolls or you gonna have to revive the mc as a undead of some kinda, Unless this is all some way that the succubus can talk to the mc with him saying a bible verse and killing her.
>>
>>1410692
You desperately try and push the girl off you, but are unsuccessful. You are going to die here, at the hands of the girl you thought you killed. The girl you hurt because she was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time. Your vision begins to blur as the lack of oxygen in your lungs begins to take its toll. In a last ditch effort you instinctively grab onto her arms. Trying desperately to mouth out some kind of an apology, something that could fix this, but your voice lacks the air.

“You killed me…” she repeats again

“You killed me. You killed me!” You feel your face begin to wet, you can’t tell if it was your tears or her own, but you do notice dark spots in your eyes begin to grow.

“You killed me…” She quietly mutters her mantra over and over as the life leaves you. Until the black overtakes you, you were dead, weren’t you.

You shoot up from the cot, breathing heavy, one hand nursing your chest and the other your neck. A dream? Was that a dream? You are still in the church, the sun brightly shines despite what had just happened. Did it even happen?

Not sure if nightmare or not, as succubus are besides creature that attempt to seduce men are also know to invade peoples dreams to do what ever they want to them. Please don't let this become an even edgyer quest that it already is, we already killed her according to your words qm, don't make this we are haunted by what we did, even though you made the MC happy that she was killed.
>>

>It was just a nightmare

Not trying to make it seem like he is happy she is dead, he feels guilt for his actions and he is a human being despite being paranoid. He craves interaction with others and only views the actions taken as a necessity for his own safety. Deep down he believes Nickole probably wasn't a threat and he is just trying to justify it to himself right now.
>>
>>1410741
Could have fooled me with how happy you wrote him after the incident, Also I even though I wanted the succubus to live you better not have let her revive herself, you said she was dead and gone, the guilt factor is kinda of lost if the person killed can comeback in like a week
>>

It was just a nightmare, just calm down. She is dead, you know she is. You were the one to kill her, right?

“Are you ok my son?” you snap to the sound of the new voice.

It’s the priest you met the last time you were here. The one who gave you that bible and who let you stay here for the night.

“Yeah… Just a bad dream.” You try to dismiss his concern, it doesn’t seem to work.

“My son, one can only get help if they ask. Is there something on your mind?”

“Do you believe in monsters?” you don’t know if you can meet his eyes.

“Monsters my child? I’m afraid you will have to be a bit more specific…”

“Monsters that walk among us, hiding in plain sight, feeding on our… energy.” He has to know something. The bible wouldn’t… it wouldn’t have done what it did if he didn’t. Would it? He just has to know something, anything…

“My child, what makes you think there are… beings like that?”

“Killed two? How did you…” He pauses, probably in realization of how.

“That bible you gave me. I… Took it and read a verse, it killed them both. A succubus and a… mimic I think.”

The priest gives a crooked smile. “I thought you might be someone interesting. I guess god has given me someone who holds a great strength.”

Let's recap.
>She's a supernatural creature that pounced on us like a hungry cat on tuna, that can pass through walls and probably posesses more supernatural abilities that make it impossible for us to escape from her.
>She said that her feeding wouldn't harm us, but that's exactly what someone who doesn't want her food to resist would say.
>She reinforced her statement by saying many monsters feed off our waste energy, yet the only other supernatural creature we've met immediately attempted to establish contact with a very hungry look.
>All lore on succubi we have available, besides degenerate porn, points that they are harmful.
In conclusion, we can't reasonably assume she was harmless and our actions were a necessary self-defence.

“My child every day people are being eaten alive out there. I see it, sometimes its subtle, sometimes its outright, but I see it. I have been calling to the lord for someone who could help save this city from the menace that inhabits it.”

“So you know about those monsters?”

“Yes my child, I have done my best to remove those I could, but I am not as fresh as I have been in my youth.”

>>1410888
“Can you tell me about them?”

“Yes my child, I’m not sure what you found out from your experiences with the succubus and mimic but I can tell you all you need to know about monsters. Monsters feed off people, their energies. Many have different ways of feeding off the people, some by actually consuming the flesh, others by touch, some by mere proximity, but they all feed off us. God has done his hardest to aid humans in their time of need; his denouncement of these monsters weakens them to any holy items. Although you are lucky it was a demonic monster you were using it on, a non-demonic monster would not have had such a reaction from a simple verse.”

“So monsters that aren’t demons or unholy won’t die from the bible verse?” Your mind flashes back to that talking plant in the hippie’s shop.

“Yes while it will definitely damage them, possibly killing them if it is done consistently enough. Demonic monsters are much more… sensitive to our lord’s power. Any monster denounced by god will be damaged by these forces, even if it is only a little.”

“Wait, are their monsters not denounced by god?”

“Some monsters were not around when god began his crusades against them. They, while not directly denounced by God, are still under a blanket denouncement of monsters. Snakes have been deemed an enemy of humans for a long time, so snake like monsters even though non-demon, are particularly afflicted by the holy power of our lord. Others such as angels were accepted as agents of God and it will not work on them. I have heard of other pagan gods have other monsters they deem as acceptable and their holy items will not work on them.”

“Wait so will these pagan holy items work on angels?”

“Depends on the pagan god, some hold more influence than others, it would take a particularly powerful one to actually damage a monster that has been deemed as an agent of our lord.”

“…Thanks for telling me this.” You look down at the floor trying to find something more interesting to look at. “But I don’t know if it matters now, I don’t have a home and those monsters will probably come for me when they find out I killed two of them…”

The priest looks at you carefully. “I think I may have an idea.”

You bring your eyes to his inquisitively.

“While yes holy power does have a strong effect on demons, I don’t think a single verse from someone not trained by the church would be something strong enough to kill a succubus. You have something inside of you, something powerful, and I think you can use it to help this city.”

“What do you mean?”

The priest smirks slightly. “I will let you stay here in the safety of the church, if you help me… clean up the city a bit.”

>>
>>1411013
Was the quest always going to have the monster be evil like this, or is a side effect of our choices?
>>
>>1411069
Monsters are not default good or evil, they simply are sentient creatures who depend on feeding off humanity. Some are evil some aren't. If the priest makes them sound evil it is because he is probably biased.
>>
>>1411003
If this guy can teach us how to protect ourselves, that's good. But I don't like that he's trying to use us. Our goal isn't to exterminate monsters, just to live out our life in safety. We need to start preparing another home.

"So what do you say my son? Will you help me make this city a safer place for all humans? Yourself included." The priest repeats his request breaking you out of your stupor.

The priest leads you to a small shack nearby the church, probably some kind of shed of sorts. It is in disrepair but the old wood still holds itself well enough. Opening the shed you find the inside to be cluttered with all sorts of things, shovels and boxes, candles and lanterns. All strewn about and collapsed in on each other with a fine layer of dust caking the mess. You guess it must have been a while since the priest has entered this shed. It may take some real effort to find something in here…

With that you lead the priest to the hippie’s shop you had left earlier. Still as ratty and obnoxious looking as you left it. Your trip to the back of the establishment leads to some… concerning sights. You were able to find the back entrance in the ally behind the shop yes. But the ally itself has vines everywhere. All actively pulsating and seemingly growing, slowly but surely, all leading to the back entrance which seems to be jammed up by said vines.

“Ah I see what you mean, this corrupted growth could only be the work of an abomination against god.”

How to proceed… You don’t know if those vines are working at their max speed or if they are just not fully active. You don’t even know if you can cut them. You could always break in the front door, not like many people are awake at this hour.

“Let’s go in through the front.” No need to risk letting it know we are coming.

Breaking through the door is a relatively simple task, hell there isn’t even a problem with alarms. Unless it’s a silent alarm, but in all honesty you doubt the hippies would want to ask ‘the man’ for help. The unknown musky and most of all foreign scent assaults you as you enter the shop once more. Walking to the back towards the beads separating you from the plant you notice that the vines seem to come from their as well.

“Well then my child, you have your holy book and your blade, let’s see you make this old crusader of god proud.”

“You aren’t coming in there with me?”

Despite your efforts you step on one of the vines about halfway across the room from it awakening it. It doesn’t seem quite aware of what is going on, but it seems to be coming to its senses. Do something fast.

>Try a verse to weaken it 1d20
>Go for the stem now DC 16
>Write in

Just to clarify, DC means that has to be rolled to be successful while a 1d20 means that you just roll to see how effective it is.

You stumble over a few vines as you rush the plant and completely whiff the first strike. The plant is now fully aware of your presence and you are uncomfortably close to its large gaping maw. Did this thing get bigger?

It sends out one of its vines in a downward vertical whipping motion to strike you.

A quick side step prevents you from taking the strike. You flinch slightly at the heavy thump and groan of protest the floor made. That would not be a pleasant thing to get hit by. Strengthening your resolve you prepare to counter attack.

You slam your blade down onto the offending appendage slicing it clean off and causing the monster to let out a guttural moan of pain. It seems to be to distracted by the pain its received to protect itself, much less think about counter attacking. You continue slicing your way closer to the plant monster with your makeshift machete until you are right up in its face.

With a mighty swing you lob the creatures top off from its stem, it lets out a silent gurgling as green fluids leave its stem. It’s done, you have won your first real fight with a monster. You feel… You don’t really know how to describe this feeling. That monster talked to you before right, was it like Nickole? Just something trying to live its life? Your musings are interrupted by a clapping.

“Good work my child, a bit of a flub up at the start, but you really pulled through. Some training and you would be the face of the next generation of crusaders against these monsters.”

“You sure you couldn’t have helped me there?” You honestly were going by pure instinct there, like you weren’t even in control in your body.

The priest simply points to the wall near the exit, several vines hung limply against something that pinned them to the wall… were those crosses? Those vines were they going to hit your blind side?

>”You had my back?”
>”Were you why that monster was so distracted by pain?”

“Thanks… uh deus vult father?”

He lets out a chuckle. “A bit late for a battle cry my child, but god does indeed will it.”

You take another look at the pitiful state the creature is in. Laying on the floor dead. It fills you with some kind of uncertainty, somehow giving off the familiar feeling of unease at the death of a living being.

>”Let’s head back to the church.”
>”Are you sure these things need to die?”
>”What about the shop owner?”

Of course these things need to die.
Suffer not the monster to live.
Purge the unclean.

“What about the shop owner?” Sure you held a level of contempt for the hippie, but he was still a living human being.

The priest frowned slightly before proceeding to the corpse of the monster, before lifting its lifeless maw. After a few moments of silence he closes the maw before standing and taking out a small book. A pocket bible? You can’t really hear the words spoken, but you think you know what has happened to the shop owner.

“We should take our leave.”

You have no real response to the thought just the simple idea that the man you saw not even more than two days ago is… gone. He probably had a family, he had friends, people who cared about him. Now he is gone. The shop felt particularly empty on your exit, and your return to the church was silent.
