"Black Hearts. Cold Steel. Dark Deeds."

These are the words of the Black Company, the infamous band of mercenaries that has been on one side or the other of every major conflict on the continent since its founding.
The Company has seldom cared who they fight for or the cause so long as they are paid, and paid well, when the killing work is done. Though they may be considered by some to be little more than glorified brigands, it cannot be said that the Black Company is not good at what they do.

Recently the Company has taken up a contract with a new employer, one more powerful than any that have come before. An employer with endless ambition, as well as the means and lack of moral scruples needed to pursue it. An employer that pays well...

7th Kriegstrom Platoon
Comprised of the most well-armed and armoured troops, 7th Platoon offers the meanest, fiercest and, given the mortality rate, dumbest soldiers to be found in the Black Company. A more bizarre collection of fighting men and women has likely never been seen. Down-on-their-luck heroes with a magic swords and brooding pasts like Cairsun; escaped slaves with a penchant for magik like Nissar; disgruntled veterans of the Nuemunster Legions like Corporal ‘Jack’ Marcus; Scarred Wildborn ‘Smiles’ (because fighting is really all a Wildborn knows); aging Skald huscarls like Hirstun of Ligh that should have retired long ago. You even have a mute rotten undead warrior, ‘Mask’, which is one even you haven’t heard before. Nevermind the fekking Dragon.

They’re your men (and women). Mercenaries, that kill for money. Warriors, with the right degree of pride and stubbornness. Soldiers, that fight for the man next to them. You never wanted this position, deciding who dies where. Dark Father knows it’s only a matter of time before you get them all killed.

Recap
Following the fall of the Neumunster city of Sarsburg several weeks ago, your Employer has sent his unholy host spread throughout the entirety of the western and northern reaches of the Neumunster Nation. While the main part of the Company and the undead went west to Oxenfurt Bridge, you were tasked with the seizure of the northern town of Kresden.

You've done that. And better yet you've taken it almost entirely intact, protecting both buildings and inhabitants alike from the violence (sort of) and the unsavoury attentions of your own reinforcements (mostly). And now the whole of what's left of Northern Nuemunster stretches before you undefended. Your forces have struck out all across Northern Neumunster. Sword, fire and fang all declare the same truth. This land belongs to the Necromancer now.

But the Free Alliance is not done yet. A final roll of the dice, all their might mustered into one army on one front. Already they have battered the Wild and bloodied the nose of the Warlord. If they can break the Necromancer before winter sets in.... there may still be a Free Realm left to defend come spring. Kresden is the key, no long and drawn out siege here. This will be swift and bloody.

Kresden Town, An Undisclosed Location, While Kiranova and Prince discuss Loyalty, Forbidden Names and Warmachines.

”Hey, Mask.” CPL Saint put a forced smile on her face to the undead warrior. She doubted she’d ever be genuinely friendly with the abomination, but at least it kept to himself.
”I’m here to relieve Trooper ‘Pelt’ for the watch.”

”Sutten Feldenven Lagor eet marn.” The White-maned Grenn growls as he gets up and stalks off.

”…right.” Saint looked from the departing wolfman back to the undead creature. ”What’s his problem?”

”…” Mask extends one bony finger to point at Saints new mark of CPL, a Grenn pelt pinned over her shoulders.

”I guess that would do it.” Saint sighs as she takes a seat, her gaze carefully averted from the boy-heir, her would-be liege lord not too long ago. It does her no avail, the bedraggled boy shifts slightly, carefully regarding her white hair and the scabbard of her Moonlight Blade.

”Did you kill a Heigelen Guard for that blade?” Prince Temuel mutters. ”It won’t work for you, you know.”

”…”

”No… I didn’t think so. That white hair… you’re one of the Heigelen yourself, aren’t you?”

Maybe it’s an urge to explain herself, maybe it’s that Neumunster respect for authority, but something compels her to answer. ”…I was once, yes. Not anymore.”

”It’s not too late, Beati.” Temuel von Brachen leans forward as far as his tight bonds will alow, the faint glimmer of hope in his eyes. ”Remember your oaths, remember your duty. To the Throne, to the Empire.”

Her eyes flickered from the boy to her Moonlight Blade. Sharp as ever, but a dull normal colour rather than the glowing white it used to be. Funny, that it hadn’t even dimmed when she had murdered that child-loving Cardinal but after Sarsburg… Saint looked at Mask, the red warrior hadn’t moved an inch, hand slung casually over his sword hilt. At the end of the day it wasn’t so different from the bonds she shared with her brothers and sisters of the Light. Gruffer, crueller and with baser goals in mind than the salvation of mankind… but there was a twisted sense of belonging there all the same.

Maybe if they had left her with the heir alone she might have done something , let him go even. But cut down a comrade in the doing of it? No. The only reason she was even considering it was because Mask wasn’t technically alive in the first place. The ex-Heigelen Captain Elia von Harti sighs, a sound almost approaching a sob, and leans back against the stone wall. Mask doesn’t budge an inch as she slides the Moonlight Blade out of easy reach with her foot.

”Those oaths are in the past, broken. I’ve got new oaths now, new duties. Your Empire is all but dead anyway, ‘sire’.”

If her voice nearly broke saying those venomous words, Saint covers it up well enough. Harsh, said without real belief in them perhaps. But Saint says them all the same. Perhaps the harshness in her voice comes from the fear that redemption really is there, she’s just turning it down. Or maybe she really does believe, no point in fighting for a lost cause. Not anymore…

The earnest look in Prince Temuel von Brachen’s face is quickly replaced by another, scorn. ”The Empire may fall, but your treachery will not be forgotten. Not by our people nor by our gods nor by you. Enjoy your new oaths of ash, traitor, and your new friends of darkness. I will never understand why the faithful and good of your number die… while creatures such as you live on.” He turns as much as his back on her as he can with the bonds there. They do not speak again.

Mask inclines his head once. Saint The condemnation of her Emperor in exchange for the respect of an undead abomination? Great.
It didn’t feel like the right choice, not by a long shot. But at least it was a choice.

Kresden Main Square, Just Outside the Manor, Later that Day

You’ve shaved 2 minutes before a suicidal charge into the breach at Far Sut Rus. You’ve shaved in a pitiful trench under cannon fire from an Ajiyimad citadel. One time in Albani, you were caught in the middle of an ambush while shaving. You finished afterwards. However, trying to shave in the middle of square while dozens of your men scatter like a shoal of fish as a trainee-Albani Warmachine pilot stumbles around is perhaps the most challenging of those.

”WOOO! Heeheehehee!” The voice emanating from the odd voice-amplifiers the Albani set up on the Warmachine is positively menacing. At least an angry, barely coherent Albani voice –belongs- there. A giggling juvenile girl? Not so much. ”Hahaha, oh wow oh wow oh wow I wait WOAH!”

The entire yard shudders as she plants a mechanical foot backwards in a hurry to balance herself. She and the machine survives unscathed, the part of your face you were currently shaving does not.

”Shit FEK! Jenny I told you take it slow you little twit!” You whip around, trying to appear as intimidating as a shirtless, weakened man that’s just cut himself shaving can look. You don’t bother trying to stand, you’d probably It doesn’t help that you barely reach up to the Albani Warmachine’s waist. Nonetheless the gigantic machine of rumbling death looks down abashedly, twiddling it’s thumbs. Or whatever deathclaw contraption is there instead of thumbs.

”Sorry Mister-Lieutenant-Sir!” Another giggle erupts from the voice box, more nervous this time. ”It’s just… I’m so excited! It’s like I got my legs back and then- and then super SUPER strong! Like, REALLY super strong. I… thanks mister.”

You try to ignore the little catch in your throat at the muffled sniffle from the voice box.

”Ahem. Yeah, okay.” You throw a dagger start at Schuster and Durvano mockedly batting their eyes at you from the other side of the square. ”You getting the hang of it?”

”Yep! It’s kinda easy. There’s a whole bunch of buttons over here but I don’t know what they 'spose to do, so I don’t press them.”

”Good, don’t.” Below blast it, this girl of a dozen summers at most is probably more switched on than most of the grown men under your command.

”I still haven’t figured out what to call her yet.”

”Her?”

”Of course, silly. This is a her.”

You're still trying to figure that out, hence the untouched buttons. For the most part, it's sheer bulk and weight will serve as a weapon.

”I guess the pilot can name it.” Man, you can’t wait to see what she-

”Eeeeeee! Prince Fluffles! No wait- Princess Pancake cos I step on ‘em! No, no! Princess-“

Well, you can’t say you didn’t ask for it. A Trooper you don’t fully recognise snaps to attention in front of you. Trooper ‘Plus One’ or something, you’re not sure why they call him that. You motion for him to stand at ease.

”Sir! The Captain requires your presence at the Western Gates with all haste, sir!” To his credit he is only partially distracted by the gigantic giggling warmachine unsteadily stomping around behind you. Thankfully, Legless Jenny and her ‘Princess Wuffles‘ or whatever accidentally barges into a chicken coop, the resultant laughter of the onlookers and indignant squawking of the homeless chickens serves to drown out the Trooper’s next words for the bystanders. ”The Free Alliance Army is here, sir.”

Ah, already? The Captain hadn't been kidding when she said they'd been hot on her tail. Of course, she never is kidding about anything.

”Tell her I’m on my way.”

The Western Gate is a fair walk away for you in your condition. You’re weak. Too weak to walk there with any sure-fire stability. Might be better to lean on someone, or something, to make sure you don’t keel over on the way there and demoralise every living soul in sight. On the other hand, showing evidence of a swift recovery you don’t feel could bolster their morale something fierce. It’d show them that you can never keep a good Kreigstrom down.

Personally I think Cairsun's 'man finds a way' path would he interesting. Saint might not be nearly as effective, but I like the idea of her not needing to rely on other beings for her power.

#136's pact however, would probably give a whole slew of nice benefits. Sure, she goes through a grung-metal phase and has an irrational fixation with leather and buttless chaps, but she'd get a nice power boost and might get a few tricky demon powers.

Prince is a shit.
Even if he got away theres still years befor he can come to power
And by then he would just be a puppet for the novles that saved him
And all that other shit

Also guys how do you want to handle the meeting with the guys outside the walls?
I kinda want to have a meeting with there leaders and let them know that theres people here as well us as and try to get them to not use fire and sige wepons so not to kill there own people.

Oh and bring saint so she can have them give her shit and we can tell them about thr homeless people camp and ask how they arw going to take care of them.

So she can see that they are just going to let them hungery and gernaly shit talk them.

We can also tell them that we have the prince locked up and if they kill us or distroy too much of thr town they wont be able to find him alive and then they would have lost what they come here for.

Also im sure if that brat comes into power his going to want to kill the black company
>>
When we meet the rebel leaders I think a good idea is to tell them about the innocent refugees in town and how we want to release them. Tell them we will release three groups across three days, don't tell them the third group will be the largest.

The first groups should be the oldest and weakest.

The second group the deformed, old, pregnant, and weak.

And the third group the rest, ie children, women, and men.

However we should take a portion of our food stockpile, enough to feed each person in group three a sufficient amount. And have troopers on watch to make sure everyone eats THEIR share, and don't do something like give it to their childern.

However we should have the cultists corrupt all the food we feed to group three.
With none in the first two groups turning they might not expect the third and last group to be the real danger.
>>
>>1418383
no just release them they we will have a mutiny within the lower ranks when they have to watch women and children starve because of the no food for civilians order from the generals
>>
>>1418383
Eh, we don't need to poison the villagers. The Free Army will have it's own food supplies, regardless. In that line of thinking it'd be better to just force the citizenry out of town and make the army feed them.

I'd rather not resort to that though.
>>
>>1418383
>The first groups should be the oldest and weakest.
>The second group the deformed, old, pregnant, and weak.
>And the third group the rest, ie children, women, and men.

That is a good idea it will force then to feed those people and end their own food supply. Unless they want to make those people starve.
>>
>>1418383
The citizens in the town are like hostages. They both give leverage in negotiations and serve as shields so that they must be careful in attacking us. Be careful handing them over even if they do eat up supplies.

>3 SUCCESS
>The onlooking troopers are more entertained and impressed with Jenny’s natural driving than they are concerned about your well-being.
>+5 DC to Albani Warmachine Intervention (Skilled Pilot)

”Heeerrre weee gooooo!”
You grit your teeth as you cling to the lumbering mechanical monstrosity, desperate not to fall off and be crushed underfoot. How was this a good idea? Contrary to your command, Trooper Kid doesn’t even bother trying to run as ‘Princess Snuggles’ or whatever stomps through the streets, waving at you with an amused grin as you quickly outpace them.

Trooper ‘Joker’ Schuster gives an impressed whistle as Jenny veers around a corner, the torso having to spin a jarring 90 degrees to catch up with the sudden change in direction form the legs. To her credit the legless orphan isn’t doing too badly, neatly stepping over a barking (and apparently suicidal) dog, pausing to inspect a litter of stray kittens. Buildings, people and other obstacles she avoids by the skin of her teeth with apparent indifference. You count at least six different occasions where someone should have been stepped on, flattened or otherwise sent flying at the speed she is going, but she somehow avoids it all with ease. Or pure, blind luck. You’re not sure.

”Stopping at Kresden West Gate.” The voice-box chirps cheerfully. ”All passengers off!”

You’re relieved to clamber down, until you look up at the Western Gate. Stairs. Stairs are hard. Somehow each step sends a twinge of agony up your neck and across your face. But at least you can lean against the wall somewhat without being so obvious about your poor state. Ah, cold unforgiving stone. Who knew you could be such a friend?

Your half-hearted grin is quickly snatched away as you reach the battlements. It’s an army. More than an army. The might of 3 whole nations pitted here together, marching over those green hills with the notion of sticking a piece of cold steel in your guts.

The Neumunster Legions; banners and, of course, the proud eagle held above the horde of men stomping forth under it’s stern gaze. Glinting spears, in the thousands, waving as they march in near-perfect unison. Tens of thousands. Dark Father, there’s no end to them. How on earth did the Necromancer best them at Weylan River? He didn’t, your employer was only facing a fraction of the Free Alliance’s power. Now every legion from every minor border war has been recalled, the fronts of the Warlord and the Wild King abandoned to counter the Necromancer definitively. No gaggle of Tassenland Greenfoots, this lot. These are veteran legionnaires, seasoned soldiers of a different calibre altogether.

The Chevalisse Knights, resplendent in their coat of arms and . Bright blue and yellow, streaks of orange and bands of green. Every colour under the sun. Chevalisse Maille may be as usefel at stoping a blade as a wet mop but you find yourself hardly comforted by that fact as you see . You’ve never seen that much cavalry in your life, not even the Warlord’s Golden Horde in Albani. Is there so much as a pony or flea-bitten nag even left in the Chevalisse Realms?

Behind them the Neumunster Engineers pit stakes and bring forwards the wagons carrying the siege machinery. They work with that good ol’ Neumunster efficieny, tireless and focused. They’ll probably have the trenches ready by morning at the latest. Already Helenwood Arbalests are taking up forwards positions, you spot the glint of a dozen spyglasses on your own positon. Some of which are just skirting the range of bowshot…

”They’ve come from every corner of the continent. The numberless Neumunster legions, the Paladins of Chevalisse and their Archangels. The Helenwood marksmen and the Circle of Mages. Even Highlanders from the Isabella Clans have appeared, the blessings of their Lady a slap in the face of our Employer according to your cultist friend.”

You turn around, trying not to wince in pain, at the stoic Captain 'Cutthroat' Kiranova. Not a hint of fear, just the way you like it. Makes you more able to pretend you feel the same.

I mean that's a worst case scenario and assuming they'll use them to breach the walls instead of flying in and ganking our officers or trying to seize a gate or something less time consuming then hacking at stone.

Have Asgorga bait them into fire lanes from archers. Send up the fucking Vampires to harass them. Not like we have to worry about keeping Vampires and Cultists alive.

I am forever salty about us not getting a squad mage at the beginning.

Magic in The Black Company setting is low-level but crazy effective if you're sneaky and mean with it.
>>
>>1418509
Also cursed/alchemical shot is why I wanted us to build a trebuchet. Fling tainted gravel at them that would corrupt the soldiers hit with it.
>>
Also guys what do you think of picking out a few place where they are most likely to breech the walls, like the gates and other weak points, and take some of the supports out of nearby buildings.

So that once they get through, because I assume they will, we fall back and have some skellies collapse the place to make it harder to flood troops into town. And they will have to detour or climb over.

To make it worse we could have some jars of oil keep inside of them so once we collapse the rangers can light it up as/if they're trying to cross over the wreckage hopefully burning a fair few of their men.

We could prep other house to collapse and maybe crush them if they try to detour, but I doubt well have enough oil to set those on fire as well.

Another thing we're going to have to watch out for is Archangels landing on the walls and clearing a breach head to place ladders for the enemy to climb up.

Like I said, at worst we can drop a bunch of oily straw on them in the night from above their artillery range and then have Asgorga do a quick strafe.

Or maybe that mage dude who helped us with Mask at the Amphitheater can magic up some shut that has a delayed fire effect to mix in with the oily straw bundles.

We DO know that the Cultist's have a metric fuckton of drugs so we could use stuff that work on skin contact on the walls, and bundle stuff that works as smoke also into the oily straw bundles so they get messed up while their seige engines are burning.

You’re fairly certain that the Paladins don’t have actual Archangels. Those simply don’t exist, if they weren’t around helping out when Skarling Kingbreaker was struggling to forge the Neumunster Empire then they probably haven’t just decided to show up out of the blue. Archangels must be a name for something else. Perhaps a special unit? It's now that you notice a disturbing number of those viewing glasses are focused on you. Already you can imagine the hidden Snipers taking aim... Now, Mages on the other hand, those are real and they are always trouble and double that amount of trouble if a couple of them get together.

”Marksmen? Mages? I’m no fan of either but magik especially rubs me the wrong way.”

”Yes, the Isle of Mages had been staying out of the conflict until now. They’ve sent a contingent of their best and brightest under this Archmage Mobius.”

”An Archmage? Gods, Captain he could-“

”I’m well aware of what he could do, especially with a circle of novice Mages assisting him. Turn our walls to Sand, blind our whole force, make the hilts of our weapons to hot to touch.” She must have spotted the look on your face, because she gives you a reassuring smirk. ”He won’t though. They know the Necromancer approaches, and they are reserving all their strength for him. We may see a few tricks, ones that hopefully Page #136 and his sister #88 can counter with the cultists. But, unless the assault falters, they will refrain from any overt displays of power.”

”We might not have to deal with an assault in the first place. We still have their precious heir after all. We can stall ‘em. Use the boy as a hostage to hold them at bay.” Anything to stave off facing that mighty host a little longer.

”I’m afraid it won’t be so easy.” Kiranova glances over her shoulder at you from the top of the stairs. ”Come, you shall see for yourself. Besides He has expressed an interest in speaking to you. We shall discuss tactics on the way.”

”Yes, ma’am. …Our Employer is here already?”

”No. But distance does not mean as much to them as it does to the likes of us.” Great, she’s even talking like them these days. You scowl, but your face generally looks like that anyway now. The Captain never used to be this cryptic.

>>
>>1418627
Ingredients for explosives can be extracted from corpses. Let the bodies pile up a bit and I'm sure the Cultists can make some for us.

As for "things that I can light on fire and throw on people climbing the wall", it doesn't have to be oil. Have our troopers go over kitchens and cellars. Commandeer any oil, pitch, tar, etc.

In a pinch, just throw boiling hot water on anyone climbing the walls.

> QM just said they're saving their big magic for the Necromancer.

Knocking a Dragon out of the Sky would count as BIG magic. This ain't DnD.

But if we can take out their mages or put them under pressure, then our Squad mage and demonic pages can use magic to mess with them instead of defending us.
>>
>>1418627

Although the enemy has surrounded the town, the Captain believes that the hammer will fall to the West or North. The Free Alliance likely knows that the Necromancer approaches in force, and will not want to leave their baggage train vulnerable or caught between stone walls and a hostile force. She plans to have the mortal forces; the Black Company Platoons, Tassenland recruits, Cultists, Ajiyimad Mercs and Yellow Dog remnants, shore up crucial positions and rely heavily on the meandering skeletal minions to flesh out their defences. Meanwhile, you and the Kreigstrom will be held in reserve. To be deployed where anywhere the defences are flagging or at risk of falling. Odds are you’ll be retaking some positions multiple times as the situation deteriorates.
There are three lines of defence. First are the walls. Already some houses are being collapsed, or prepared to collapse at short notice. Barricades, petty traps and other hazards are being prepared as the two of you speak. In fact Kiranova pulls you by the scruff of your neck out of the path of a pit of shit-covered spikes in the middle of the main causeway. You struggle to focus on the discussion as the pain of keeping up with her pace grows. Where are you bloody going?

I'm going for a smoke, brb.

I apologise for not addressing every single one of the interesting ideas you guys have put forth. Prince has the 'Clever' trait, but that's mostly street smarts and dirty tricks on a relatively small scale. Captain 'Cutthroat' Kiranova is actually the one running this show. Having some of your ideas shot down without discussion is unfortunately the hard truth of being a junior officer. Don't worry, the majority of your decisions that would impact The Big One occurred during the offensive, and you were almost universally successful there. Almost.

(1) Vampires
>Night Defence. Superhuman predators prowling the walls at night will allow your mortal forces much needed rest.
>Night Attack. Risky, with all those holy folk over on the other side, but Vampires excel in inflicting fear and dread in mortal folk. You don’t need to be invited into a tent after all…
>Mobile Day Force. Vampires are weaker in sunlight, but these ones are young and well-fed so it is not yet lethal. They can shore up where the defences are flagging during the assaults.

(4) Albani Warmachine “Princess Duffles”
>Use Jenny to clear keep the North and Wester gates clear of battering rams and other threats. It’s open ground, but you’ll hold the walls longer with her there.
>Hold her in reserve until fighting reaches the streets. In those tight confines her inexperience won’t matter.

(5) Asgorga
>You’re going to run that lizard ragged. Ordering active attacks on the enemy positions beyond the wall as often as you can. You might call him back and change strategy if a credible threat from the sky materialises.
>You’re going to keep him in reserve, bringing him up only when using your FLRE in combat. You don’t like the sound of these ‘Archangels’, best to keep your own air support cards close to your chest.

With 1 bag of tricks we can also glamour or magically hide Asgorga from the troops. Or say have the straw set to smolder on the inside and then cast a magical breeze to flare it up and catch the oil soaked outsides when the stawbombs land.

Literally everything this man said.

If things go bad we can be more liberal with Jenny and the Vampires, but this is good if they try to do a slow and safe siege.

Things will go bad. We'll have to throw men at the problem until it goes away. But right now we do all we can to keep our men alive. They can afford to let units die. We can't.

(1) Vampires
>Night Attack. Risky, with all those holy folk over on the other side, but Vampires excel in inflicting fear and dread in mortal folk. You don’t need to be invited into a tent after all…

Dont have to kill or get close to holy guys, since theres a big army they cant have them all over the place i mean they can just fuck with horses and supples.

I'm not sure I want her firing that warmachine's weapons in close quarters. And I believe she would actually be more vulnerable in close quarters than out in the open.
Just have Asgorga rescue her if she gets into trouble. Speaking of the Dragon:

>You’re going to keep him in reserve, bringing him up only when using your FLRE in combat. You don’t like the sound of these ‘Archangels’, best to keep your own air support cards close to your chest.

Okay so what to do with our 3 tricks?

I think 1 for the Dragon Bombing to make it only have to be done once to get the majority of their seige engines.

The skeletons are just fleshing out the troops so how about Drug Skeletons? Skeletons stuffed with drugs putting out noxious fumes that just run into and around enemy lines carrying the fumes away from our guys.

Or alternatively can we give like stimulants to act as combat drugs to the crappier guys?

That's what we have a bag of tricks for. I picked the option that gives us 3 for a reason.
>>
>>1418846
Here an idea: give yourself a post natal abortion.
>>
>>1418732

Tactically speaking, our situation is shit. If we don't break their cohesion and fuck them up thoroughly, we're in trouble.

Here's the problem - we have to fight on three battlefields at once: Magical, mundane and aerial. Our success will come from being able to neutralize at least one of these. If we keep aerial and magic in reserve, we try to hold those walls with our own poor forces and uncontrolled skellies.

So here's what we do
>Vampires: Assassination jobs. We feed the living shit out of them today, if we can. They infiltrate and assassinate mages, especially the Archmage. That will let us put our own cultists back in control of the skellies.

>Cultists: They control the skellies, magic circle traps where possible once the walls fall.

>Skeleton warriors: Keep them on the walls. The only reason buried pits will be any good will be if we can use them to demoralize and surprise the enemy in coordination with an attack of our own.

>Albani Warmachine: Keep the gates clear. The wall is not our only asset, but it is our biggest. Maybe detail a squad of Kriegstrom (ideally with those magical healing pixies we could buy once upon a time) to ride Princess, and dismount as Jenny goes to work. Their job will be arrow fire to keep the Warmachine from getting swamped. The princess will get in, smash, and retreat.

Asgorga: IF the archmage can be neutralized, keep him in reserve to deal with the Archangels. Otherwise, use the vampires as scouts to spot for him doing night attacks.

OOOOOOH, GOOD idea. Use the vampires to spot the mages encampment and deploy the FLRE. ASGORGA makes a pass and the vamps attack. Fuck those guys.
>>
>>1418852
Well Dragon Bombing definitely could use one.

Don't want to go through the battle not using them because they MIGHT be useful.
>>
>>1418862
Pretty sure neutralizing the Archmage is out.

Also they're all holied up so Vampire assassination is out unless you mean a nocturnal attack on their command structure - which has the same problems with possible Archangels as sending out Asgorga.

-1 discipline is worth it for the majority of their troops vs +5dc for our skeletons which are really just in support positions.

And we don't have an extra squad of Kriegstrom to protect Jenny.

I guess you want reduced control for Cultists to be able to do magic AND control skeletons? Or we can get them to try to magically spot the mages, and other tricks.
>>
If we don't have Jenny on the gate we should hide her inside a building then when the army begins to go past her she pops out and smushes them
>>
>>1418862
I'm pretty sure the Mages are the few people in the Free Alliance camp who are decked out with holy men bodyguards and holy talismans up the wazoo.

I'm assuming that Night Attack means the Vamps carry out sabotage missions and assassinations against junior officers and NCOs. They won't be protected nearly as much, and the loss to their chain of command will be devastating.
>>
>>1418845
I mean it makes sense if we're using the Dragon for a quick strike then having it pull back.

Might even bait out their air defenses for ambush with Vampires or Archers or whatever Cultists can whip up.
>>
>>1418906
I don't know if it's worth the lack of rest our troops would get for the rest of our Army.

I mean they have a pretty big army, I don't know if we could kill a significant amount of their midranks to really make an impact given the cohesion of their forces.
>>
>>1418906
Like they can probably just throw men at us with instructions to "go get stuck in".
>>
>>1418818
I'm not talking about starving us out. I'm talking about taking the time to make siege engines. With their numbers they could literally just swarm our walls and win the battle by climbing over the bodies of their allies if they wanted to. They're concerned about the necromancer though. They want to win before he shows up, but they also want to avoid a pyyrhic victory.

----------------------------------

You always left the big-scale things to Kiranova. It’s why she made Corporal before you, it’s why she made officer before you. It’s why she’s the Captain. Nevertheless you find yourself contributing a few ideas yourself, you must be coming into this officer shtick well enough. Some of your ideas she dismisses, some she takes under consideration, some she has already thought of. You don’t worry about that as you enter the abandoned warehouse, one identical to where your men hid a few weeks ago, it’s always been like that.

”Ah, if it isn’t the Dear Dark Prince. Slayer of Skalds, they call him. Tamer of Dragons. Scourge of Traitors, Old One Eye himself.” A diminutive child sitting in the centre of a chalk circle grins at your with carnivorous teeth.

”And if it isn’t the terror of Far Sut Rus, stealer of children and eater of rats and kittens.” Page #137 always did give you the willies. Still, you take comfort in knowing this monster is on your side. Against their will perhaps, but the end result is the same.

”Oh I have missed our little exchanges. However, you must excuse my lack of threats concerning my appetite and your internal organs. I am busy awaiting-SKRAH!”

It sounds like the daemon is in pain, real pain. They writhe and screech, flailing about on the floor. If his sister Page #86 holds any concern for her sibling in agony, they show no evidence of it. Apparently, this is how the unnatural and magik-inclined commune over great distances. The more powerful the intruding presence is, the less tender in their seizure of control they are likely to be. Judging from the mewling, twitching daemonhost in front of you… your Employer is powerful indeed.

[1/2]
>>
>>1418936
By that logic wouldn't it make sense to use Asgorga to take out the siege engines and then retreat back to the town so that they HAVE to use whatever Archangels they might have to take the walls?

It's not running him ragged to do an Alpha strike.

”I HAVE COME.” Page #137’s head snaps up towards you at an awkward angle, their eyes pitch black. ”Be not afraid, my good and faithful servants, approach your master.”

”Mmmm, yes. The daemon does not lie, there is the distinct aura of destiny about you. Strings of fate tug you to and fro. Strings can always be severed though. Death cuts through such things most efficiently.” You’ve never heard the Necromancer speak before, never even seen him in person actually. If Page #137 was disturbing this… this is something else. They appear at once emotionless and ravenously hungry.”Now… I hunger. bring forth the prize…”

He can only mean the boy-heir. You look at the Captain, she appears unperturbed. She glances at you with a raised eyebrow.

”This is all you, Lieutenant. I don’t speak the Black Tongue.”

That puts on the spot, a development you don’t exactly welcome.

That is 5 votes to deny the Necromancer and 5 votes to hand the boy over. (plus 1 to secure some bargaining before that happens)

I'm not sure I should really roll for something like this. Holding the boy-heir is why you were worrying about a traitor for so long after all, they're why you had to kill 'White Bitch' and you almost died ensuring they didn't escape. This has been a major part of the last dozen threads, you sacrificed a lot to secure the boy heir until now. Do you hand them over to the bossman for some kind of reward, or keep them here to try and delay the siege? It makes sense that LT Prince would be torn up about this. Satisfy the Necromancer's whim and ensure a battle, or defy the Necromancer to stave off the battle? This is by no means an easy decision but I won't hold a snap vote because those never fail to end in samefag accusations.

Pretty much. I've told you guys a bunch of times, Count Vermillio was supposed to be your -in- into the Necromancer's council to stop him and Syka fekking their own campaign up.

>>1419102

”As you wish, My Lord. The last living heir of Skarling Kingbreaker is yours.” You kneel, eyes staring at the stone floor beneath you. It irks you to speak the Black Tongue so submissively, but all Dark Things are beneath something. The Necromancer is merely a little further up the food chain than you. ”Captain, best we bring the boy here.”

A single arched eyebrow is raised in response. ”I presumed as much. Knight-of-the-Line Mask, come in.”

”Hrrrk.” You catch a glimpse of downcast white hair outside as Mask drags the bundled up boy-heir into the dimly lit room. They don’t look much like an Emperor-to-be now, just a scared little child. Prince Temuel von Brachen’s eyes widen at the eagerly twitching body of the possessed (or double-possesed? Can’t be a lot of room in there) Page #137.

”P-please! Pleeeeease!” The princeling says in a very young and very scared sob. ”I didn’t even want to BE the Emperor! I just- I just wanted to go on adventures and- and- “

Captain ‘Cutthroat’ Kiranova’s cold eyes flicker over the sobbing child. ”Gag him”. She says to Mask. The undead warrior tears its gaze away from Page #137 and does as he, or it, is bid.

”Noooohoho-hurf! Mhmf!” The child shakes it’s head, trying to dislodge the gag as tears flow freely down their cheeks.

”I apologise for the noise, my Lord.” The Captain bows her head to the twisted figure of Page #137. ”Prince Temuel von Brachen, last of the line of Skarling Kingbreaker, is yours.”

”Excellent. You have served me well, Captain. And you also ‘Prince’ of Borr State Orphanage….” You shiver at his attention. Who told him you were an orphan? Page #137? Maybe, but you never told him the orphanage was in Borr. ”I am please. Come, sup from the fruits of your victory. Choose your -justly- earnt reward…”

”Yes. Yessssss.” The gag muffles the boy-heirs sobs somewhat as Mask places them inside the chalk outline. The thing that is Page #137 scrambles over them, regurgitating a black ooze and coating the terrified child in it. Much like a spider wrapping up a freshly caught fly. You could swear there was a black figure standing over the disturbing scene. The figure is smiling.”Ahhh, if only Skarling could see me now…”

When the boy is completely covered their form begins to dissipate. No screaming, or even struggling, but you don’t doubt a foul fate awaits them… wherever they have gone. The pitch blackness leaves the eyes of Page #137, they are left wincing. ”Must He always be so… unpleasant?”

”…” His sister #86 throws him a wry, an altogether menacing, grin.

”Shut up, sister.” Page #136 grimaces at the Captain. ”It is done, master.”

”Our Employer has given his word?” You nod in response. ”Well done, Lieutenant. Still, it never hurts to have certain fail-safes in place... How do you feel?”

”How do I feel?” You feel… you haven’t felt this young in years. Decades even. A little weak from your recovery perhaps, but all the niggling injuries and old sores are gone. Your right eye remains blind, the scars remain both on your face and over your body. But… Dark fekking Father even your that twinge in your knee is gone, and that was certainly something from the pack marches over the years not a wound from battle.

May I just congratulate you all on making it this far with this subplot? Seizing the heir from the adventurers, deciding not to get rid of them as a problematic hostage, holding them, tracking down the traitor and preventing their escape. These are all moments where the decisions you made culminated to this point. The Big One would have happened anyway, but things wouldn’t have gone down like this had you not persistently followed this line of action. Rest assured, win or lose here Lieutenant Prince has changed the course of history for the continent.

Had at any point the heir escaped, or been ransomed back, or simply released… the Necromancer would have had to deal with a resurgent Neumunster resistance in the years to come. Long after the Black Company’s contract (or lives >_>) had expired.

"How do I feel?" You can't help but grin. "I feel like an old man in a young man's body, ma'am."

”I remember you saying the exact opposite in Ajiyimad.” She says with a faint smile.

”I remember a lot more than that from Ajiyimad.” Behind a swiftly frownly Kiranova, Page #137's eyes bulge as he struggles not to choke back his laughter. She dismisses your comment with a flick of a gloved hand. Excellent, she's almost getting used to your fruitless flirtations.

”I have some other things to attend to, Lieutenant. However, there is one last matter I need your input on. My personal guard, Hansul ‘Bloody Nine’ is dead. Somewhere not too far from Oxenfurt I suspect. Should we survive I’ll need to reorganise the Hellions. Or, given your success with seizing Ksreden and pacifying the region, I could use a new Oberlieutenant as my Second.” Captain ‘Cutthroat’ Kiranova pauses, regarding you with cool blue eyes as she adjusts her cap. ”Understand that this is only a platitude for now. Your role in the upcoming battle remains the same regardless.”

Afterwards though, it remains unspoken that your place in the Black Company will change dramatically.

The Hellions, a squad of the meanest, leanest and fiercest Blackguards in the Company under the Captain’s personal command. The best of the bloody best, second to no one. You’d be given the hardest missions, the long odds and hard yards. Your number would watch over the Captain, defend her in battle and in peace. When she was commanding or eating, awake or asleep.

Or Oberlieutenant. The Second-in-Command. You’d have a lot more responsibility, a wider scope of power. You’d be commanding other officers, not men of the rank and file. The fate of whole Platoons would rest at your fingertips. In times where the Black Company would split up you’d have complete autonomy, the trusted Second of the Captain. ‘The’ Lieutenant of the Black Company, so to speak. It’s a hard job, but perhaps you’ve earned it.

But either of those positions would mean leaving your beloved Kreigstrom. Now that the option is there, you realise ‘beloved’ isn’t an exaggeration. It’s your unit, the bonds of brotherhood forged in the hottest fires. With them behind you, well you could take on the world. And enjoy yourself the whole time. Can you really stand to see them follow someone else? To put their precious lives in the hands of another? They’re basically family to you, and you to them.

Kriegstrom takes it by a slim margin.

LT Prince feels the tug of ambition, the things he could achieve as the Captain's Second... but at the end of the day he wants to remain with his lads. They're his boys, been in the muck and blood with them together from the start, and he'll be damned if anyone else is going to look after them. Should the Black Company emerge victorious in the Big One, the 7th Kreigstrom will go on to be the most renowned unit of fighting men (and women!) on the continent, possibly the known world.

To never again say "Right, lads, FOLLOW ME!" to 3 dozen of the hardest folk on the face of the earth? No, the 7th is home. Prince's home.

My bad, then. Nonetheless, i prefer a Leader of the Kriegstrom, Prince, Breaker of the Free Alliance, than some bleak Lich with dark powers that will be alone forever as he watches his brothers die from old age.
>>
Do you really wanna be compared to the Necromancer? Prince might like to accumulate power, but always as a means to an end, the end being the wellbeing (not sure if i got the word right) of the Company

The Necromancer seems rather power-hungry for power´s sake and this is a bad road to go along.
>>
>>1419828
There was certainly some support for it when discussed, but nothing approaching unanimous. I remember other anons being cautious of the 'inhuman Witch King' factor being an issue when Prince is supposed to be one of the guys.

>GAINED Face Me!

“I’ll stick with my Kreigstrom, ma’am. If that is an option. They’re my boys, can’t stand the thought of leaving them in the hands of another.” You can’t leave the 7th Kreigstrom. The 7th… it’s home. -Your- home. -Your- family.

”I had a feeling you’d say something like that. Of course it’s an option, Prince, and the Kreigstrom will be better for it.” The smile that Kiranova gives you isn’t sad, but it isn’t quite happy either. A bittersweet smirk, like she has been told something she already knew. ”I’ve found that I’ve come to rely on you these days, perhaps too much. It will be good to know that where the 7th stand at least, the line will never falter.”

”Master, The Dread One directed that I should inform you that his host shall be arriving from the South-East in under three days.” The daemonhost simpers as his sister #86 licks a freely bleeding cut on his arm. The whole scene is quite disturbing, but you’re getting used to this shit now. Look at you, hardly even fazed. Is that a bad thing?

”You heard #137, Lieutenant Prince. Three days.”

”Can I tell the men that?” It’d boost morale for sure, to hear that they don’t have to hold out that long.

”…No. Not yet at least. As soon as you tell them three days, three days is all you get. After that they’ll lose heart.”

”You expect our most esteemed Employer to abandon us?”

”I expect our Employer to come here and finish the job with the Free Alliance. I don’t trust him to do so on time.” The Captain’s noise wrinkles in that way you love, the way that indicates she’s reconsidering something. You don’t see it often. ”Not with that bitch Syka in his ear, anyway. That will be all, Lieutenant. There will be an induction for the few new recruits we have with the Annalist come nightfall. Mostly your Skald friends and that cripple pilot. Tend to your men, square away your affairs. There won’t be much time for anything else but war come tomorrow.”

”I’m not having any affai-“ You splutter, halfway indignant.

”Your personal matters, Prince.” The Captain rolls her eyes at you. ”Go now.”

well considering what happened to the heir(i wanted him to live) the company isn't safe regardless of where we go. so I'd think going for it so we can match the necromancer if the time comes is the right thing to do. this isn't about being an uber lich to me it's about having the fire power to protect the company from shit like what we saw a salsburg

I won't until they are an available choice. They are meant to double as 'endings' for Prince in this campaign, so this is to avoid people zeroing in on a particular one because it offers the best mechanics.

>>1419909
Well, it'd be more than a single line obviously. The myth would be that Prince never died, every Kreigstrom in the Company later would know it. You must remember that the stories of past Black Company members are read out on occasion with a near religious reverence. In the books it's explained as something halfway approaching immortality for the average man to have his story etched in the annals for eternity.

>>1419916
>The things that man does to avoid paperwork

Oh, dumbass moment there.

HERE is [2/2]

Assuming that you will be making the rounds and cheering up the troops as you do so, you have some free time before night falls, where you will have further free time. The induction will begin after 2nd Watch, at which point you will have to sleep if you want that extra +3HP.

--------------------------------------

(1) Free time before nightfall. Unfortunately, you only certainly have time for one.
>You feel fit as a fiddle. Fit enough to try your hand with CPL Hirstun of Ligh and his swordsmanship. [Old Dogs, New Tricks Companion Quest]

>Trooper, sorry, Corporal Saint has grown a lot these past few days. You should confer with Cairsun and Page #137 about boosting her dulled Moonlight blade. [‘Fallen Angel’ Companion Quest]

>CPL ‘Jack’ Marcus is having trouble integrating the unpopular new LCPL into the squad. You could back him up on that. [‘Of Mice and Men’ Companion Quest]

(2) Talking shit with the men of the Company.
>Joking with a group of Troopers from the 7th. [Select 3]

>Meeting up with the Old Guard, SGT ‘Bad Hand’ and ‘Whisper’. Reminiscing on past glories and remembering the fallen.

>Desperately recruiting for your band for a post-Big One concert. Select one member of the 7th, they are now musically talented in an instrument. [No Wildborn, No Undead, No NCOs].

(3) The induction tonight.

Is the Witch King option really that bad? My headcanon is that while Prince gets more Bad Juju the worst things we do would only be... well what we already did. ”Your pet Dragon is not Black Company, Prince, no more than Page #137 is. We do not conscript, we do not press others into service. To sign your name in the Annals is to join us for life. That is a choice that must be made freely and without compulsion, and a Dragon’s lifespan is long indeed. I also forbid you from releasing your hold over this creature, for now at least. It’s too useful a weapon to let go at this crucial hour. Perhaps after this battle, we shall see.” She silences your imminent protest with a hard glare. ”Am I understood, Lieutenant?”
”…Yes, ma’am.”
------------------------------------
A Few Minutes Later

Seated across from you is your personal bodyguard Cairsun the Morning Light and the daemonhost Page #137 to answer your question on CPL Saint’s Moonlight blade. The daemon-child makes sure to stay out of reach of Cairsun’s magik blade, but if the dejected warrior shows any sign of discomfort at the creatures presence he gives no sign of it. He seems no more depressed than usual.

"Across the Eastern lands, in the Rakasha Raj and beyond, they worship the Sun. Even the Ajiyimad Caliphate does to some extent. Despite their protestations that their Final Prophet replaced such primitive idols, all he really did was alter and codify the existing faith there. I am owed favours from some people in the Turncoats, it would not be hard to exchange the power of Sister Moon for that of Brother Sun. The hard-luck hero falls silent. It’s the most you’ve ever heard him speak in one go. He sighs, always his sighs are full of sorrow, and continues. "Then there is the Lady of the Isabella Clans. The Highlanders call her ‘Uaine Nighean’. In their tongue it means ‘Green Girl’. A god, demi-god or supremely powerful sorceress. No one knows, least of all the Highlanders. But in her realm she reigns supreme, the very land turns against those that would threaten her or her subjects. Her blessing extends to people and objects far removed from her lands. But like anyone, her favour can be won, her blessings can be bargained for.“

”The powers of this mortal realm are fleeting, prone to change. The powers that lie Below are eternal.” Page #137 sneers dismissively, though you imagine his definition of ‘fleeting’ is one measured in millennia not decades. ”With such a well-preserved Mortal Soul a powerful denizen could be lured to the blade. It would not be difficult for such a being to become entrapped there. The one wielding such a blade would be a fearsome sight to behold indeed, carving an bloody swathe through any foe. Or, should that fail to satisfy you One-Eye-Prince, the very stuff that Below is made off could be harnessed to the sword itself. A blade of pitch black. Any creature of darkness in their presence would have to be supremely powerful not to cast themselves at the wielder’s feet immediately. It would serve as a crown, a beacon!”

Any attacks borne from Magik that would affect you or your cohort will be dispelled on a single 50DC roll.
However, Saint cannot by action or inaction bring harm to a Highlander or any other of the Lady’s possessions. The blade simply won’t cut things of that nature, she’d have to sit out on any confrontations with the Highlander contingent.

>>
>>1420189
The cultist soul I think. The one we got a while ago
>>
>>1419967
The Necromancer would be obliged to intervene, much like an annoyed parent between quarrelling siblings. However, as it is the Company would be hard pressed to take down the Superior before she overcame the magik counters provided by Page #137 and #86. You'd take casualties certainly, and an assassination wouldn't be a sure-fire thing since up market magik users are notoriously hard to kill.

You're not even in the same ballpark as the Necromancer or Archmage. They would flatten you and the Company both, no rolls required.

>>1420175
Not really, unless you mean work out some sort of racketeering system with the cultist detachment? That's kind of their thing, and would obviously tick off Syka. Not saying you can't do it though.

>>1420185
That unfortunate cultist from when we met up with the Demagogue/Druglord

>>
>>1420191
That is correct. Though the utility might be different from Page #137's methods (bargaining with The Lady or reforging with the Final Prophet), the end result is the same. The soul will not be in your possession anymore.

I don't know how you don't lose patience with so many idiots in your quest. Chief among them the one that hasn't heard of spellcheck.

>Nightblade, “Eclipse”

Well, if we have to spend a damn soul anyway, we might as well take the one which seems more powerful. That Anti-Magik blade would be cool if we weren't about to face Highlanders.
>>
>>1420207
To be honest I believe that in that particular case the wording is so off that spellcheck wouldn't know where to begin.
>>
>>1420162
>Daemonsword, “Ashgrix The Bound”
+10DC to Platoon Combat.
After severity is calculated you may re-roll the results of one casualty taken that round. However, a +2 is added to the severity roll of the replaced casualty candidate.

It's perfect. Prince also gets the Daemonsword from the shop, Saint and Prince become the Daemonsword-wielding front duo of the Seventh Kriegstorm. Not to mention, I'm kind of inferring it's more of trapping thing, so her personality would likely remain unaltered.
Also 10+ DC is nothing to scoff at, and the secondary bonus can be pretty situationally useful (such as potentially saving Mask from a Fate Worse than Death).

Saint joining the Blackgaurd then is optional, but might serve well to strengthen her resolve and give her a closer sense of belonging.
>>
>>1420199
Is the Seduce Syka by "Bad Dick" still viable then?

For, you know, he kills her before she kills us plan :^)
>>

I don't think you understand. Cutting her head off may not necessarily kill her, that's the level of sorcery we're dealing with here. You can't, despite your SGT's best efforts, dick her to death.

It's very clearly the Nightblade "Eclipse" that wins the day. I'm a little surprised, given that it boosts abilities that Prince hasn't even invested in yet.

I'm starting to crash, and we know what happened last time I was half-awake and posting. Leaves were tripped on, helmets were stabbed through etc. Unfortunately, I'm going to call it here. There's still a few things I had been hoping to conclude before the end of this thread but I shall do so in one large spiel at the beginning of the next thread. We'll decide what the wall-of-text consists of here.

This is it folks, the next three vote options will be indicative of how you spend the last peaceful moments of the day, and perhaps your life, before The Big One begins.

This is the finale of this arc, so to speak, and will likely take several threads to complete. It's going to be Big.

I haven't, the Tier 4 abilities are left intentionally vague so that people don't choose any particular route purely for the mechanical advantages offered.

Kreigstrom Never Die is known to you now, Manifest Destiny is no longer an option and The Black Prince has been described as a 'Witch King of Angmar' ending. I don't know why that last one comes across as so appealing to some though.
>>
>A quiet corner, perhaps up at the manor. Looking over the town, the walls, and army beyond as the sun sets with a cuppa Darkwood Tea in your hand.

Well, a lot of players are I think interested in any endings that feature the Dark Father in some way, as we should be rightly grateful for his continued aid we have so dearly relied on. Also it's not hard not to pity his final fate and a profound sense of injustice we could and maybe should strive to correct.

Combining it with the Officer ending seems at first sight like a very agreeable compromise between being a company man and a semi-religious paladin-equivalent who wants to set things right, even if literally everyone on this world is sanctimoniously spitting on the sacrifice the Father made. Even if it is described as being the Witch-King ending.
Also having the darker side and aesthetic while still being a pretty okay -- if cynical -- soldier is just what gives Prince a very particular and strong appeal. People want to stick with that I suppose.

>I like this quest because…
I've been following it since the first thread and it is truly a captivating story. The writing is very good, but it is the narrative which I have to commend you on. The wider plot is interesting, yet understandable and approachable - simultaneously, you have allowed us to shape Prince, our squad and even the Company in a meaningful and interesting way.

>I hate this quest/YOU because….
As with all good things, this quest will end and you will move on. Thought it is better to end on a high than fade into obscurity

>Things to improve blah blah
The pacing feels too rushed in the aftermath of taking kresden as if there are too many unfinished quests here, it feels like we should have had another downtime thread after we got here, but immediately after that we were struggling to keep our troops from thrashing the place (How's durvano's zakashi friend by the way?) and then struggling with vampires, and then dragons and then...
Pacing now is fine though,

I've been here since we shot that quartermaster in the face, i just love it. Your writing is entertaining, pure and simple
>i hate YOU because...
Most importantly:You've let anons become IDIOTS when women get involved(ALSO, what kind of grizzled dude gets a hard-on by feeling tits through two breastplates?)

Since the start we've had utterly trash luck, and while i recall you saying you didn't want this quest to become "roll crit success, benchpress EVERYTHING", some of our critfails seemed painfully harsh. You often praise us for not powergaming(the axe comes to mind), but a sense of good karma for shooting ourselves in the foot to chase our preferred narrative is nonexistent. I want this ugly fucker to live, i want him to protect his 'family', and make him not lose his humanity in the bargain, but in the denying of powerful items we seem to get nothing -however paltry it may be- to counter the thrashing we've voted to receive later.
Maybe the karma will come to us, but we're feared by everyone so i dont see how

>Some rambling rants
hearing how shuster(On behalf of the footsoldiers at large) was terrified of us seemed off, you'd think the troopers would see how much of what we do is for them or maybe i'm wrong when i think prince basically loves the company

Honestly, considering that we've got an Archmage sitting on our doorstep (even if he's waiting for the Necromancer) and the still looming threat of Syka and her cultists, I'm really surprised you guys jumped to take a sword that boosts a skill tree we haven't dipped into that much

Were rarely get chances to do companion quests. Mighty meh for me, especially as you are extremely specific about them. How often did we bang Bitch again after her quest came up? Implied several times. Was her quest done? Nah, because we did not explicit do it.

You are harsh as fuck whenever we try not to be a powergaming cunt. The swords in this thread show it again. The "evil" swords are flatout better than the elemental ones, which led us to give Saint an "evil" blade instad of following the path we set for her further.

Too small rewards for us generally not making out of character decisions and not just going for the best options and damn the consequences. Trying to prevent powergaming would be much easier if the options were even closely balanced.

Second this two in the writing and style part. I would really like you to be a little less harsh when trying to do the morally right thing. But it seems that a majority of anons want to go full Edgy Black Prince way so I can´t really blame you for it (one tread: subject a child to a terrible fate, doom mankind for ages to come)

However, the thing that annoys me most is the eagerness in this tread of anons to corrupt the one person that more or less functions our morality compass, which I find it sad, as we kind of need remaining that being a an utter bastard for no reason but mechanical gains is a little bit crooked. Besides, I thing that Saint´s idealism contrast very well with our pragmatism and seeing that chemistry disappear doesn´t appeals to me in any way and (I think) some anons share my feelings or think that the fading process of Saint´s convictions has been needlessly rushed and should have been more gradual.

People may complain about not getting time for the companion quests, but I honestly sort of liked having to decide to sacrifice 'Company Time' for personal interactions. It lead to a nice tension, wanting to do things - yet being afraid of the consequences.

Things I have issue with are mainly skill-based. There were obviously better choices that ended up deciding what kind of fight we wanted. Leaping Carnataur, MBFH, and Cut Them Down in particular were pretty overpowered when compared to our other options.

Finally, I'm on the other side of the world so I've gotta take a nap mid-thread. Then I come to and realize we passed up Isabella's Kiss and that sweet platoon magic resistance for making Prince tongue better.

Gotta say I'm really enjoying the tough choices being made about Prince's future, how much will he draw from the Dark Father, what the eventual price will be, etc. Personally I'd like to see where 'Black Prince' takes him because I think it'd be an interesting story but I can see the appeal to other sides as well

We've been almost universally been kind, or just neutrally pragmatic at worse, yet everyone and everything (including our own men) thinks we're evil to the core, Anon here >>1420722
Nails it pretty accurately, it feels like you're writing us as more evil than we really are, it doesn't take a genius to see prince values his men when he volunteers for combat with skaldish heroes.
He'll even if we live and make it to the ending(black prince here looks most likely) I doubt we'd reach witch-king of angmar levels of evil, it's more like using the darkness to help us live another day.
>>
>>1422290
Do we necessarily have to choose a Tier 4? I understand the major benefits from doing so, but who knows if the fustercluck that is every anon voting can cohesively choose a direction and/or get enough Skill Points to actually spend on them.

Some combination of Black Prince and Kriegstorm Never Die would probably best fit the wild ride that Cpl. Aeron started and Lt. Prince is ending. An eternal sentinel bound to protecting his brothers using the Dark Father's gifts.

>What I enjoyed about this quest:
I like how QM does not freak out when Anons jump the tracks and go off with their crazy plans. Or when a bad roll killed off a NPC that was vital to the plot, QM just rolled with it instead of waving it off by fiat. Maybe the story turns out differently than we would have liked because of that, but it makes the world feel much more real and alive. Most QMs won't do this because hugely increases the amount of work, so, kudos.

>What can be improved:

1. Sometimes a roll is called, and a decision is made, that is later ignored. For example, we voted in an earlier thread to alter instead of corrupt Saint's sword, but then this thread we voted on it again anyway, and of course the result was different. It cheapens the votes when it feels like we don't know which one will count.

2. Sometimes we get these small situational modifiers for doing something, which are neat, but then we all forget about them by the next thread. Maybe just keep things simple if none of us can be bothered to remember the three or four bonuses/maluses Prince has on him almost at all times. The dice rolls have been so damn swingy that they rarely mattered anyway.

3. I agree with some of the other Anons that the world seems to judge Prince too harshly. It would make sense in a modern day setting, but in grimdark late-middle-ages not-Europe? Prince would have been a damn hero in shining armor. Watching an old man get executed by then saving a boy? That's MERCY. Sneaking into the enemy palace for a decapitation strike? That's CUNNING. Rescuing a female knight that you captured yourself? That's CHIVALRY. Brutally slaughtered a subordinate in a duel for disobeying you? That's DISCIPLINE. Challenging the enemy leaders to a duel so that your troops don't have to risk their lives? That's HONOR. Poisoning your enemy's food supply? That's CONVICTION, EFFICIENCY, and THE WILL TO WIN.

Such a man should inspire admiration and loyalty, not fear.
>>
>>1420339
The Sun Bringer is mechanically nearly useless. We rolled doubles maybe four or five times this entire quest. And for what? A one-round -10 DC malus on the enemy? Forget it.

I would have voted for the Isabella’s Kiss, but I guess Anons were too scared of the Highlanders, and were willing to forsake the magical protection in order to get one more sword in there against them?

Or perhaps they were wary of bartering with a sorceress/goddess they knew nothing about.

On the other extreme, maybe after we defeat her Highlanders in battle, her powers will wane, or she'll renege on her blessings to spite us.

Maybe Anons just don't trust women anymore after the whole White Bitch incident. Good job, QM.

Nobody wanted Ashgrix The Bound because we're not THAT stupid. You underestimate our intelligence sometimes, QM. Remember that we are at least smart enough to remember to breathe. Geez.

Eclipse was the safe, conservative option. It's basically making the Mortal Soul's bonuses less flexible (Saint has to be near us) in exchange for the platoon combat bonus.
