Welcome to Spirit Detective Quest! This quest, as the title suggests, takes place in the world of Yu Yu Hakusho, though it does not take place during the events of the show. You're a young highschooler, one who will find himself granted the title of Spirit Detective, and will be charged with tracking down demons and other supernatural criminals.

>Rules

Each time I make an update, there will be a ten minute window in which you can vote between various options I have provided. Write-ins are accepted and encouraged, but I do reserve the right to veto them. Once ten minutes have passed, the option (or suitable combination) with the most support will win.

You can choose multiple options, but be mindful of when that doesn't take any sense. Saying you want to go talk to someone and then talk to someone else in one post doesn't make much sense.

Also, in combat, I may veto selecting multiple options depending on how feasible that seems.

As far as combat, you will roll to attempt different options. I will not tell you what the number needed is ahead of time, so use your heads and balance risk/reward. Sometimes, you should take riskier options if they can yield greater payoff. Other times, it's best to play it safe. Use your judgement.

This is not Dragonball, and while there are sometimes ways to bring back the dead, they are few and far between, so do not assume that anybody you kill/let die will be coming back.

I hope you all have fun.

The gang of demons plaguing your town has finally been stopped, their abductions, murders, and body swapping at an end. Aria has lead their captives to safety, and the two men are on their way out of the woods, hoping to return to their lives and leave this nightmare behind them.

Damon lies sleeping against a tree, occasionally disturbing the otherwise tranquil forest with a loud snore, but making no other real sound. The only three still around and in a condition to speak are yourself, Stephanie, and Aria.

The Spirit Guide has changed back into her robes, and hovers on her oar in front of you and your fellow detective.

"Well, that answers some questions," she tells the two of you after you explain the documents you've found. "And it raises some others. I'll take these back to Spirit World and see if anybody can make sense o' it."

"Guess there isn't much else we can do," Stephanie agrees, though she sounds rather frustrated to admit it. "Hopefully intelligence can find some trails for us to follow."

Aria nods. "Yeah, this is quite serious. If there are demons walking around in human bodies, they won't be easy to track. But with some names written down, we should be able to figure out where te start."

"Can you drop Damon off at his place on your way?" you ask your assistant.

She glances toward the sleeping boy. "Sure, that won't be much of a detour."

Hovering on her oar, she moves over to Damon, dropping down to pick him up before slowly floating higher into the air. Once she's confident he won't fall, she takes off in the direction of town, leaving you and Stephanie by yourselves.

"Want to get lunch?" you ask, looking toward the older girl. "I'm buying."

Stephanie looks at you, then shrugs. "Sure, I could go for a burger."

Soon after, the two of you are sitting in a booth at some burger joint, enjoying a delicious, greasy meal of burgers and fries. It's not exactly elegant cuisine, but it is very tasty and satisfying.

"This hots the spot," Stephanie comments, taking a sip of her soda. "Thanks for taking me out to lunch."

The girl nods happily, taking another bite out of her food.

"So, are you heading back after this?" you ask her.

"Probably," she tells you after swallowing. "No telling what could be popping up back home. Probably nothing, but I'd rather things not go wrong because I wasn't there to deal with it."

"I'm pretty tired," you reply. "And I feel like I could have done a lot better on this mission."

Stephanie leans back, giving you a shrug. "You're new at this. And at the end of the day, we succeeded, and we all made it out alive. Don't be so hard on yourself."

"I got caught off-guard this time," you say with a sigh. "The previous cases were so much easier. I barely got a scratch most of the time."

Stephanie nods. "You got overconfident."

She leans forward, looking you dead in the eye. "Fighting demons is just like fighting people. Some are weak and easy to deal with, some are much stronger than you are. Some cheat, some bring weapons you weren't expecting. You need to make yourself ready for everything."

"How do I do that?" you ask her.

"Experience is the best teacher," she tells you, smirking a bit. "I'd say you've learned a thing or two from today. But, it's a pretty risky approach. I'd suggest training when you can and sharpening your skills as much as possible. And when it comes to battle, never assume victory will come easy. I think today's proven that demons are full of tricks and surprises."

Some people walk by the booth, and Stephanie sighs, leaning back once again as they pass.

"This is one of the hardest jobs there is," she tells you, toning down her voice a bit. "But, it's also one of the most important. We could get killed at any minute if we aren't prepared, and without us, the planet's in a whole lot of trouble."

Reaching forward, she grabs a french fry and dips it in some ketchup. "You showed me back there that you've got plenty of skill, and on the night we met, you showed that you can handle some extreme situations. Right now, your problem seems to be arrogance. Remember, we're only human, and we're fighting monsters."

"Right," you tell her. "I'll do my best. Thank you."

Stephanie offers a small smile, and nothing else is said as the two of you finish your meals. Bellies full and hunger satisfied, the two of you leave the burger joint, stopping at the edge of the sidewalk.

"It was nice working with you," Stephanie says, turning to you and holding out her hand. "Having another detective for backup was definitely appreciated."

You take her hand, shaking it and returning the smile she gives you.

"Maybe we'll get to work together again someday," she says optimistically. "After all, if Koenma finds out who those goons were selling bodies to, I imagine you're going to want to take care of things as much as I am."

"Of course," you tell her, obviously wanting to find out what happened just as much as she does. "Take care."

She nods to you. "You, too."

With that, the young woman turns and walks away, leaving you alone to find your way home safe. You start in that direction, walking off some of that food you ate as you make the short journey back to your house.

Fortunately, after the long, painful day you've had, no demons pop out at you, Aria doesn't drop down with terrible news, and Koenma isn't yelling at you about another job.

Of course, there are other little pests to deal with. As you pass an alleyway, you notice three guys in their late teens to early twenties emerge and begin to follow you.

They're dressed like a bunch of teenage gangsters from a 90's film, and have the most insufferable smirks on their faces. They don't say anything, or come running, they just silently follow you.

"What do you want?" you ask as you stop in your tracks, glancing back at the approaching trio.

The three men come to a stop a few feet behind you, chuckling like a bunch of fools. You aren't sure why a bunch of street punks have such big egos, but then again, to them, you're just some kid on his own. They have no idea what kind of person you are.

"We were just wonderin' if you had some change for the bus," the guy in the middle, some scrawny little short guy in sunglasses asks with laughter in his voice. "See, we need to get home to our mothers."

"And we'd really appreciate it if you gave us some money," a big guy to his left adds. "Everything you've got on you should be enough."

"I don't have any money," you tell the goons, turning away with a shrug and resuming your course home.

That's when you feel a hand on your shoulder. Without even glancing back, you throw your elbow back into the man's gut, dropping him to his knees with a single strike before turning toward his friends.

The other two goons look at their friend in shock, then glare hatefully at you.

"Cheap shot, kid!" the scrawny one yells before rushing toward you, the big guy right behind him.

You rush toward the charging chumps, knocking the scrawny guy flat with a punch to the face, and sending his other big friend to join him with a kick to the jaw. You may not be in any shape to fight demons right now, but some weaklings like this are of nothing more than an annoyance.

As you stand over your defeated "attackers", you hear a girl's voice call to you.

"Hey!"

Looking in that direction, you see that a car has stopped nearby, and Rachael's head is sticking out the driver's window, a look of shock and worry on her face.

"Do you want a ride home?" she asks you, glancing down at the thugs you just put through the ringer.

Probably borrow Damon and use his spirit shield as a punching bag for our spirit enhanced punches. We both basically get some training off it, we basically make our punches become stronger and more easily to deal more damage against enemys with strong defenses and Damon gets better at blocking and lasting longer against a continuous onslaught.
