We have our primary target. Agent Irving has Meloch in tow. Get out of there, people. Whatever this is, Solarion aren't paying us to pick a fight with a warmachine.

If you can disable it, we'll make them but keeping us and the civies alive take precedence.

Well, we got what we came for field team. Father Meloch is in custody, the cult he leads is officially done with and the Worm That Eats safely bound beyond the confines of this plane. Internal Assets is having a jolly old time with the interogation. From the info they're forwarding, nabbing Meloch means we're singlehandedly responsible for moving the annual murder rate down by 6.7 %.

Regular public service, us.

Downtown is a mess and I'm fielding inquiries about reckless application of munitions in a residential area but TS hooked up a little auto-forwarder so we'll let Solarion Security Solutions field those particular questions and fines to follow.

Despite the cock up in the mission and the faulty intelligence, you pulled through. Damn proud of you all.

If you can still work, talk or use your hands, get

Shaken, but holding. They're being debriefed now. Tell us they checked in weeks ago, but whenever they tried to leave the cleaning bots would stop them, Some of them are dehydrated and confused, and a few others have small scars from surgical procedures.

We got 17 people out, but one of the more lucid ones keep asking us about "the others". Guest listing indicates they were originally suites for 50-60 people. However many was lost to processing before the interfacing with the Suits was stablized isn't worth thinking about; we rescued who we could.

>"Though.. missions usually go like this?"
No, they're usually not this smooth. I mean, the building is still intact, most of the civilians survived, the target was actually secured alive and only two agents lost their lives. All things considered this went pretty well.

>>1457351
>The Company would like to make it very clear not all operations inevitably devolve into chaos.
Command, you are lucky you don't have to keep a straight face over the radio because you would never be able to pull off that line of bullshit in person. In all my time with this agency and others I'm not sure I've had a single mission where things didn't go at least fair-to-middling FUBAR.

It is also time to consider our next deployment. The assignments waiting is as follows:

==Desert Fox==
RoE: Loose
Opposition: ???
Focus: Package Acquisition
>Open desert terrain, vehicles usale

Unable to hire us for their insertion into The White Buffet Facility, Chironan-Corporat instead went with Hargrave's Hundred. True to the creed of the Hundred, they did the job and acquired the data-core Chironan wanted. On route to exfil-B2, contact grew erratic and was finally lost. A secondary acquisitions team was sent in to back up the Hundred. Contact was lost with them too, and now electro-magnetic intereference is making satellite scans of the area unreliable.

Our job is to deploy, find the campsite of the original team, re-acquire the Package, and then pull out. Once we've got the package in tow, we'll signal the Chironan, and they'll give the all clear for the military cordon around the White Buffet Research Zone to begin thermobaric cleansing procedures.

==Gatecrasher==
RoE: Loose
Opposition: IconBound Servitors of Ice and Fury
Focus: Point Strike
>Urban

Braveorsk University is now the ground zero of an Incursion Event, and Braveorsk itself is currently locked behind a glittering dome of darkness that seems impervious to any telemetry. Signals going in are cut off, and only garbled nonsense is coming out. Local forces are somewhat strained with the emergency at White Buffet, so when the first air-strikes were ineffecient they erected an automated cordon around the city and left it at that. The tide of refuges from inside the Zone has slowed, and the ones that make it out now are beyond saving.

The University assures us the Rift will destabilize in time, but while its open and sporadic emergence of class-7 outside context anomalies is being witnessed, there's prime oppertunity for some data-gathering. Since they can't send in drones, they're sending in us. Our job is make our way to the original rift-site and set up a series of automated sensors, acquire as many first hand accounts as possible and provide security for two reseachers who tell us they want to test a Theory.

There's relatively little chance of a vector-latch infection if we don't stay inside for more than 72 hours.

Incursion Events have a self-terminating event horizon. The shockspace portals cannot maintain full terminality in our univers because of solar crosswinds and ionized thaumaturgical infuence bonding with the metamorphic resonance overflow. There's almost no chance that the Braevorsk portal excacerates itself into a self-perpetuating growth exponentiality. At the low end, it has already consumed most of the city. Since the evacuation has left most civilians outside and displaced, it cannot in truth get much worse unless the severely unlikely happens and it somehow establishes a breachpoint and Anchors. Then we'll be up to our eyeballs in class 8 to 9 Animants.

University is likely just looking for us to provide good data they can use to apply for more funding grants.

It follows the standard pattern of all explosives - the initial 2x2 is full damage, and every "ring" around that is divided by an allotment of 3.

2x2 = full
4x4 = /3
6x6 = /6
8x8 = /9

Etc. Explosions hit a large area, but usually petter off if one does not score a "center" hit.

NitroCores offset this loss to make the divisor 2 or expand the aoe by 1 if there is a set AoE. This makes NitroCores exceptionally deadly.

Should a unit be hit by an explosive wave, they are likely to suffer SHOCK and lose AP.

==Debrief==

We've now gone over the data gathered from the previous incident, and R&D had some comments. If you are under observation, we'll let you go and we apologize for the testing of what exactly constituted "Until the stars grow cold". The chief scientist assures me in their report that . . .

"only mildly unpleasasnt rashes"

Are sure to result.

We lost asset Connor and Backslash on this one. Neither had much left of them to give a proper ceremony, so these medals will have to serve in effigy. Asset Connor was a dead man walking who could build up a surprising turn of speed when called for, and he dismantled an ambush meant to sweep away everyone entering the first floor. In so doing he lost his life... again. And died. Again. A man willing to unleash a necrophagic event in order to serve the mission is a man we're sad to see die... again. This is just like last time we had this speech, and Command would like to point out that betting on whether Connor somehow shuffles out of their shoe-box sized grave is in exceedingly poor taste.

Command knows that Backslash was mostly seen around base wearing their muffler, and so most of us would not have gotten to know just how much of a personality they truly were. In the alloted ten minute periods per day when the gag came off, Backslash was truly a cad and worth knowing. Even the overwatch snipers assigned to them say so and those guys never crack a smile.

With these twin losses, we are unfortunately diminished.

If anyone wishes to say a few words, the floor is yours.

------

As for the final Geasa invoked by asset Backslash, it appears to have been conditionally anchored to their essence and with their passing it is rapidy losing effeciacy. This is the Chief Scientists way of telling you that no, you are not immortal. There may be a way to transfer the most salient of its properties however, and should you wish some more involved needlework on yourself, R&D has some good theories about writing the true name across your major bones with a nano-meter scale tattoo. Unfortunately you will have to be awake for the process.

Should it be of interest, please add your names to this list. . .

Backslash wasn't one to talk. Mostly because doing so could undue reality. Nevertheless his sacrifice saved eight of his fellow Breachers. We who do our work valiantly and without glory know too well the danger that lies in our duty. We protect those without notice nor recognition. Yet in our struggle we find fraternity and honor. Backslash never abrogated from his task. May we find the courage to do the same.

To establish a working relationship, we'd have to pay them 30 CC. Then after that, additional offers might become available.

Karl stumbles over to the podium, still limping because of the wounds sustained and possibly because of his currently inebriated state.
"Now hear me out y'all fuckers!" He eloquently begins, as a couple of tears wet his messy beard. "Ah didn't know Connor, an' I didn't plan to either! Usually it's bettah 'ta keep anyone that smells... Well, IS a corpse, at a certain distance, yaknow?" The emotional Iconograph continues, waving around a half-empty bottle of Vodtory with "DO NOT OPEN - KARL'S EXPERIMENTAL TRDRAK-BREW" scribbled upon it. "But even I know that ya gotta respect any motherfucker that comes back from tha' grave an' can still count to 5!" He holds 4 fingers up to emphasize his point. Then, with a sniff, Karl continues. "I didn't know Blackslash either! Always thought he talked too much though! BUT, I WILL LOVE ANY PIECE OF SHIT THAT SAVES MY LIFE!" Throwing his head back, he takes a long drink out of his bottle, which some may notice contains something that looks awfully similar to fire if it was color-less. Still weeping, and having lost all of his dignity, Karl stumbles off stage, tripping and planting his face on the ground in the process. Pick 2.

Combat Calligraphy - Prepare a fully drawn Sigil ahead of map as a Consumable, deploy it with 3 AP.
>acquire a scroll-holster for more paper space

Release - Any Sign you have drawn or signs you can see, Interact to roll vs its STR to Release it. This releases all energy held in the sign in a 3x3 around it and removes the sign.

Partial Invocation - 1 AP rolls vs Icon STR to trigger it early. Failure inflicts 1d5 HP dmg. This can target multiple signs at once, at +1 dmg per sign.

>eg: Draw, draw, have 40%. Spend 1 Ap to roll vs 40% to trigger it early without finishing.

After the interns managed to lose our data-centre, they had to work out the finer math by hand. I checked it over and they forgot to carry a one twice, so tshk.

Anyhow, Agent Elena, let me tell you about the new combat package!

[KRONI] is an old faith word for the primal incarnations of evil, which will take many forms. Usually simple reactive defenses and the data-crunch capacity of multiple linked nodes is enough to ensure that vira do not feasibly interfere with any on-going processing project.

If a threat is detected, autonomous system processes simply re-route additional processing to figuring out an appropriate reaction and the virus is contained before any harm can be done. Vira naturally consist of simple injected code blocks which cannot change or adapt to circumstance, they're purpose built.

What if someone then designed an adaptive programming package that could hijack the natural RD of a node and use that very node-response to improve itself? Instead of being analysed for weakness and quarantined, a KRONI vector hijacks the RD of a node and uses it to shore up any backdoors, weaknesses or issues it might have. Having thus subverted one system, it cascades itself forward and subverts even more, drawing in their RD to exponentially improve itself. The more the natural node programming attempts to analyse the KRONI vector, the more the viral adapts. Trying to stop it with advanced datamining techniques and upgraded layers of cyber-security simply feeds it more potential analysis.

It is /spooky/ and I wish I knew who had originally programmed it, simply so I could go find them and kick them in the shins.

The initial "Core" of the kroni vector represents what it is trying to accomplish, and it will bend any nodes in its path to accomplish this objective.

>KRONI is represented by ORANGE rd in nodespace.
>All Kroni vectors have a [Core Objective] - "Destroy data", "devour drones", "dismantle security", "kill everyone in the building".
>Initial KRONI strength is how much RD the target node has. A kroni vector converts that entire system mass to itself. More advanced aRD or bRD comes with auto-destruct features to prevent this hostile subversion.
>Any linked system to a kroni node suffers processing hacks to convert to kroni, and once converted, adds its links and it RD to the kroni vector, which are then bent towards accomplishing the initial core objective.

Becaus the system is self-adaptive, its important to know that it can eventually override its masters intended core objective. Total KRONI Strength is its percentage chance to disregard any constraints placed on it by a core objective, and when that happens. . .

Well then you've got an exponentially growing subversion vector without any overriding principle but its own self-propagation.

>>1459390
>Vote for getting a weapon package, Kore specifically.
>Vote for getting a garage.
>>
>>1459665
To avoid that, most vectors are usually short-lived and programmed with an auto-kill feature of "X turns", giving it a certain limited space to accomplish what it needs to do.

Once it runs out of time, it shuts down, leaving nothing but a barren waste-land of burnt out electronic infrastructure.

>Core Objective: Destroy drones. 3 turns.

Of course if you give it too long to accomplish its objective, then it'll override the hard constraint, self-modify to avoid programmed death and we're back to the stone age.

The KroniCompiler is a little less virulent. That simply interferes with data and causes ever-increasing series of hazardous electronic malfunctions.

You can bend the adaption package of the vector to accomplish any series of events you can think of. You could even use it to inject a series of pre-programmed commands into an entire network

>Core Objective - Shutdown all nodes in 3 turns

And that's all I can tell you, Specialist! If you bring that datapackage anywhere near my screens again I'm going to get really sarcastic. But really, at least the Kroni is unusually polite and hardly wants to harm you.

Just so we're clear, we /can't afford/ the 80CC unless you would like to go out on the next mission without support and consumables.

Makes sure he isn't drooling on anything to horrible.And swaps the near empty bottle of vodtory with water, and waits for when he snaps out of it. Let's see what Merkalin wants us to do, then. We'll take 15 CC to acquire the brochures and little taster-packages from Kore, Arma and the ICC.

That leaves 75 for going forward.

Keep in mind that while having a banked emergency fund is useful, it is possible to use some of the mission pay itself to acquire the support services. Should we go into a mission with nothing but threads and dust in our Finance Account, much to Johnson's despair, the application of support utility will simply come straight out of post-mission pay.

So we're getting the all the "previews" (except Singularity)?
The stuff we get better be good, 15cc is not pocket money.

Anyways, I hope we don't get "standard security gear", if we have to defend someone I'll only count on equipment that can put a clean hole (or multiple for that matter) through someone.
>>
>>1464569
Merkalin's brief is written in crayon and their handwriting is atrocious, but it appears we're welcome to bring our own in-house equipment so long as we don't frighten the guests.

Mr. Wrong is expecting someone to make a run at his antique sword collection during the festivities, and we're there to prevent anyone from nabbing anything.

Sounds a bit harsh for swords, so we'll ask TS to snoop around and find out who this Mr. Wong is.
>>
>>1464576
In... crayon? How old is Merkalin anyways? I know child-labor isn't illegal anymore but I more concerned about an actual teenager providing us information...

About that Mr. Wrong's "collection", I suppose this rules out high explosives to aboid destroying it, right? Hopefully we'll have gotten the packages before the mission starts so I can take something to replace my GL.I still call dibs on any explosives we might find.
>>

We can rig up a NodeScanner fairly easily. They're common technology, the only reason we don't have one as a standard fare is that the NodeJacker has the Scanning feature in-built.

Anyone can opt to [Scan] their surroundings with Processing, pinging available in Signal range. This won't reveal Hidden Nodes, but electronic stealth warfare is an entirely different kettle of fish.

Good find, Asset. The library is a stockpile of the macabre, the mercenary and the mostly morose. Several of these books are engraved, including one very nice copy of the Tome of ValkoQuester.

But the the target was Mr. Wongs antique sword collection. I've picked up a few converations; it's possible Mr. Wong can lay a claim to one of those swords in his mansion being Riven, the Blade of Time.

If someone is gunning for that, they'll be coming for it for their own purposes, not as a smash and grab for quick cash. There's only one Riven, everyone would know it was a theft.That means a small team, high end operators, quick and furious but short on staying power. Likely with an interest in Old, iconographs and operatives. Sword fetishistic nocturnal security specialists. Gear down for fast, focused and aiming to get up close and personal to finish the deal in close combat.

I'll see if I can find a group matching that profile.

Yes. Yes they would. ARTEMIS has their rocket-systems. Foundational mesh should prevent any helicopter capture.
Yes, it is acceptable - the theme of the night appers to be Villianesque. us in armor and weapons fits the mold as hired hench.
We can, we are.
Autonomous operating turrets without proper target RFID systems will likely shred the guests. We can attempt to add weapon stations that require manning to the grounds.
Landmines are right out. Someone could step on them, and they're banned by convention.
Protective Wards to prevent long-distance jaunting should be considered. We'll prepare a design.
Yes.

We have expanded the camera coverage mildly and adjusted some of the feeds. The skimmer drones are patrolling in the pond, the beach and the training facilities.

Some papmache can cover up the AWAPS, but it won't exactly fit in for long.

Irving tells me he found a signal jammer smuggled in under the table in the gate security facility. We've gone over the grounds and checked every thing else, and nothing else comes up as unnatural. We're running a trace on who could have bought one of these recently and just how they got it set up here.

==Security Phase 2==

Mr. Wong is expressing a bit of annoyance with the foam cluster grenades all over his yard; he wonders how the guests are to mingle freely if at any moment they can be covered in expanding shock foam.

We've found a series contracts put up over the last month for mercenaries interested in a smash and grab. They all originate from the same source and promise the same reward, so someone was doing recruiting ahead of time. We're trying to trace them now.

>Request a turret on the roof above the door to the southern wing, and another over the back entrance from the west overlooking the western courtyard.

>Mr. Wong is expressing a bit of annoyance with the foam cluster grenades all over his yard; he wonders how the guests are to mingle freely if at any moment they can be covered in expanding shock foam.
With all due respect, they won't be able to "mingle freely" if they're getting shot/taken hostage. Also, Mr Wong needs to understand that there won't be much left to show to his guests if the strike team simply steals the sword in the middle of the guests, we need to be able to intercept them.

Speaking of which...
>Command. Is it me or did Mr. Wong leave swords just lying all over the place?
Bilk is right, we need to gather the swords in one place where we can conveniently keep watch over those.

However I'll go further and posit that the true target might not even be the sword: what do we do if instead they're simply looking to secure as many hostages as possible to trade them with the sword or something else? Similar to the swords we need a place to regroup all of the guests to avoid friendly fire, hostage taking and spilling of multi-million credit cocktails.

I have thus taken the liberty of looking around the property for a place where they could hole up temporarily while the fight rages on.
All the given places only have one exit (which means we can just leave one person on guard) and are somewhat secluded/have no windows (no undue casualties).

Those with windows are oriented to the backside where nobody is supposed to go so I was wondering if I could mine THAT place. Barring that, the least we could do is cover the entry points (door/windows) in foam to prevent the enemy from entering.

Hey Liren I forgot to ask, can you re-calibrate the damn tacmap again? It's showing our positions using the default markers instead of the live feed. We're not some two bit outfit; you can turn that off you know.

Well, I can't imagine they'll be dumb enough to use the same insertion routes twice in a row.

Command, any chance we can get some mines (or if that's too risky some remote detonated charges) set up along the driveway? The main gate is looking awful open and exposed, it's just begging to have an APC driven through it.

They might also just demolish the walls with explosives...or drive *an APC* through the walls. Actually, mining the ground outside of the walls, at least sporadically, might help deter them. Not like there's much chance of guests wandering around the exterior perimeter and setting them off after all.

LIME SEAL...if the rumours were right we might have some freaky shit to contend with next raid. If even half the stories I've heard have any truth to them, expect the unexpected, by which I mean metahumans.

I mean we might get lucky and just have more normal goons to deal with, but why would we ever get lucky?

"I say! Good show dealing with those would-be party crashers, chaps! I do love how this action adds to the atmosphere of Villain's Lair that I've been working on, but do get one of the wait-staff to clean up the mess when that ice melts. Can't have one of my esteemed guests slipping, hey?
Oh, and tell that man you hired to be my double that he can take a lunch or somesuch, I'd like to walk the grounds."

Things that we need:

1) people at both entrances, checking the guest list
2) someone to toss the skimmercams onto the rooves

Theoretically?

Well, /theoretically/, m'dear infont, Riven is the True Sword of Time and and if one was so inclined they could use it to unleash the irresistable forces of Entropy by breaking the blade. Bunch of cultist - the waffenwelf? Wuffenwaff? Vuffelivov? Somebodies ikely want it to unlock the chained prison that holds their decrepit *boring* abomination of a god.

Load of hogwash, this forgery is far too symmetrical to shatter in some haphazard attempt at attaining mastery over all of space and time.

AND HAVE you SEEN how it matches my time? Your souped up fashion algorythmhs are no match for this kind of moleecular cutting edge fashion sensibility!
>>
>>1484846
"In theory? Because my sword is the fanciest of all swords, Riven. Not ever has a blade so perfectly matched my ensemble, most especially my tie. ALSO, it is the TRUE Sword of Time. Cult-addled chaps have been after it for ages, trying to break it in the name of Entropic Things or somesuch codswallop. I say to them, good luck in breaking THIS masterpiece of smithery.
Though not really, because I do rather wish to keep it."
>>
Oh my, a me. How meme-tically devious, Solarion. Certainly you get what you pay for when you hire the finest.
