You are the former United States Navy warship USS HOEL, now returned as a shipgirl and ready to kick Abyssal ass!

Bringing the Russian shipgirl fleet back to Yokosuka was rather.... interesting. The Admiral and Captain wanted to ship them off to a specialized holding area for debriefing and processing, but... Russians were gonna Russian. They were pretty adamant about not leaving until they could properly "thank" the other shipgirls for helping them out.

Which was basically fancy speak for lots and lots of drinking. Sure, the Russians were critically low on fuel, ammo, and spare parts, but the one thing they apparently had an endless supply of was vodka, which they of course brought with them in the evacuation...

The rest of the night was kinda fuzzy after that, but you end up waking up...

You find yourself waking up in Anna's bed, with Anna herself asleep to your right and... Paz on your left! Both of them were wrapped around each of your arms, snoring softly. In a panic, you glance at the both of them. Still had clothes on, especially Paz. Good.

However, the whole bed reeked of alcohol, so much that you couldn't really tell if any of the stench was coming off of Paz herself. However, she seemed happy enough, clinging on to your arm like a lifeboat.

Anna had a silly, sloppy smile on her face as she was probably dreaming of something really lewd, her headphones askew and her antenna twitching wildly in her sleep. Too damn cute.

However, someone who was noticeably missing was Woel. Shit, where did she go off to?

Unfortunately, you don't quite manage it, as you movements cause both Anna and Paz to stir. Anna grunts as she stretches her arms, while Paz lets out a loud and adorable yawn.

"Mrnnng Hool." Paz mumbles in her half sleep state, rubbing her eyes.

"Morning, Paz." You grin as you ruffle her messy and curly hair. "How you doing, Anna?"

"Coffeeeeeeeee." Anna moans, a complete morning mess like always.

"So what are we gonna do today?" Paz asks, her infinite nuclear energy starting to return. "Can we play with the Russians again? Can we? Can we?"

Now, you were pretty sure Paz would be a great asset in searching for Woel, but the thing was, nobody had every really TOLD her about Woel and, well, you weren't quite sure how she'd react.

Maybe it'd be better off not to mention it to her...

You decide it's best not to tell Paz the full story. At least not yet. However, her radar and planes would be VERY useful in tracking down Woel.

"Well, let's all get cleaned up first!" You grin as you pick up Paz and carry her over to the bathroom.

A good half hour later and the three of you are dressed and cleaned up ready to go about the day.

"So, Paz, we're gonna be looking for W- Z-52!" You say, surreptitiously eyeing Anna as you say the alias to let her know to play along. "Remember, that German destroyer that kinda looked like me?"

"Oh right, yeah!" Paz nods with a smile. "I thought that was kinda funny, like how Gangut looks like Hibiki!"

"Yeah..." You laugh nervously.

"So what, we're just going to... network our radars?" Anna asks curiously.

"I think we can go ask the Russians first. If Z-52 went anywhere, they'd probably know." You say.

"Sure!" Anna nods and then frowns. "But where would we find them?"

"The noisiest part of the base, I suspect." You chuckle.

"Oh, oh! I think I spotted them!" Paz jumps up and down excitedly.

"Show us the way, then." You grin.

You and Anna follow Paz's lead as weaves through the base, leading to the airfield. She makes a beeline towards one of the old aircraft hangars, one that had been heavily damaged during an Abyssal attack and had never been repaired due to lack of opportunity.

And there, squatting among the ruins are a good chunk of the Russian shipgirl fleet, drinking vodka and playing cards.

...not exactly very professional.

"That looks fun!" Paz smiles.

"No. No it's not." You grunt. You were going to keep Paz as far from alcohol as possible.

"Where's their leadership?" Anna frowns. "They need some sort of discipline!"

"They're right there." You sigh, pointing to the four Gangut sisters, squatting under a makeshift corrugated metal roof as they drink vodka in the shade. Somehow you're not surprised.

"Ah! Hoel! Greetings!" Petrapavlovsk waves as you approach. "I see you brought wife and daughter with you as well!"

"W-what?!?" Anna gasps, turning red.

Paz only just giggles.

You can sense your, Anna's, and Paz's radars link together as one as they pulse out simultaneously. Fortunately, you weren't trying to perform anything difficult like coordinating hundreds of missiles in the air or keeping track of thousands of contacts. All you were doing was looking for one particular ship.

Radar waves wash over the base, sweeping every nook and cranny. And then you see it. A contact that appears to be Woel. Thankfully, she's not in the ocean or anything but she's...

You manage to make it to the HQ in a pretty rapid amount of time. However, when you reach the front, you don't see any sign of her around. However, you do have a bit of an idea of where she might be. You head in side and make your way to the Admiral's office.

"Yo." Sam says, casually playing something on her phone, legs up on her secretary's desk. "You looking for your twin?"

"I'm going in." You tell her.

"All right, all right, but let me call it in first." Sam sighs as she dials in on her phone. "Yo, Admiral, Hoel's coming in whether you like it or not."

That's when you open the door and storm into the office. Immediately, you see Woel sitting in front of the Admiral's desk. As expected, both the Admiral and Captain were present. This definitely looked to be an important meeting.

"Ah, Hoel. I was expecting you to arrive sooner or later." The Admiral nods. "Good timing."

"Sir..." The Captain speaks up with concern.

"It's quite all right. This concerns the both of them." The Admiral says, looking at both you and Woel.

"Hey, um, sorry about not telling you about this." Woel sighs.

"What ARE you talking about?" You raise an eyebrow.

"Woel's future." The Admiral says bluntly.

"You do remember Woel's previous circumstances, correct?" The Captain says.

"Yeah, of course." You nod. "Can't you get Vahlen off her back?"

"It's not quite that simple." The Admiral shakes his head. "Right now, we've managed to suppress word of Woel's presence here. However, that's not something we can keep up indefinitely."

"Basically, we're down to three courses of action." The Captain explains. "One, Woel can disappear again. Go into hiding before we have to report her presence. Two, we go public with Woel and officially induct her into the shipgirl fleet. She'll have a degree of freedom, but like Pacifica she'll have to submit to regular checkups and testing under Vahlen's supervision. Three, we can create a cover for Woel so she can operate with us without disclosing her true nature to the Science Division, but, that means I'll have to owe a big favor to a certain acquaintance in the CIA..."

"And those men do love their favors." The Admiral cautions.

"So yeah, it's a pretty shitty deal all around." Woel groans. "You got any ideas?"

"Ugh, well... I guess Vaheln isn't the literal devil." You concede.

"It would be best to negotiate with her rather than the rest of the Science Division." The Admiral says in agreement. "She does seem to have lost interest in Woel now that Pacifica is on her mind."

"I'm not sure if that's a good thing or not." Woel sighs.

"This does mean that you will have to have regular scheduled checkups with her, though." The Admiral reminds her. "According to her, you and Paz share similarities in your overall construction, so having the both of you effecively doubles her sample size."

"Again, I'm not sure if I'm liking what I'm hearing." Woel groans. "But I'm fucking tired of running and hiding."

"Understood. We can make the arrangements with Dr. Vahlen." The Admiral nods and turns to you. "Your continued presence isn't necessary, but you are free to stay if you would like."

"Unless you have any other questions." The Captain speaks up.

You know, since they technically went rogue on their nation.
Say that they sought political asylum in the US?
That IS an option on the naturalization forms.

They can raise rabbits and marry American husbandos. Also they will own trucks, maybe an RV. And in winter they can move to Arizona, they might need two husbandos.

"So, um, what's gonna happen to the Russians?" You ask. You might as well since you're here. "We gonna ship 'em all off to Montana or something?"

The Captain raises an eyebrow while the Admiral chuckles.

"Well, on that subject, we are expecting a visit from the Russian delegation in Japan. I'm sure they'll have very... interesting things to say." The Admiral grins. "However, the President has made it very clear to me that if the Russian shipgirls were to request asylum, then the United States would honor it."

"And it seems Japan is offering to host them in Yokosuka." The Captain adds. "I suppose they take some small amount of pleasure in thumbing their nose at Russia, as well."

"Aren't you afraid they'll like, retaliate or something?" Woel raises an eyebrow.

"Ironically, they lost any potential leverage they had when they declined to coordinate with the Allied fleet." The Admiral smiles. "My prediction is that they'll bluster about it for a few days, but eventually 'allow' the Russian shipgirls to 'assist' Allied efforts to save face."

"That's good to hear." You grin.

"Hey, um, Vahlen's on her way up." Sam announces as she pokes her head through the door. "Just thought I'd let you guys know that in case Hoel, uh, wants to make her exit."

Also I bet Hibiki and Bucky would be the liaisons for the Russian shipgirls.

Bucky speaks surprisingly good Russian, maybe she's really the Winter Sailor?

"I think I'll stick around for a bit. Make sure she doesn't try anything sneaky." You grunt as you sit down on one of the chairs.

"Understandable." The Admiral nods.

"Admiral, Captain." Vahlen says politely as she steps in and pauses when she sees you and Woel. "Hoel."

"Doctor." You grunt.

"And Subject- er, I mean, 'Woel', is it?" Vahlen asks awkwardly.

"That's right." Woel grunts, glaring daggers at Vahlen.

"Now, I understand that you may have some well deserved... grievances against me." Vahlen says. "But you must understand that your creation was an important step in-"

"Doctor." The Admiral coughs. "We've already made the proposal that Woel be treated with the same courtesy as Pacifica. In that she be allowed general freedom on the base in return for regular checkups. I trust that you can keep the Science Division under control?"

"Hmph. Thanks to the breakthroughs I made with Pacifica, I have more than enough influence with the Science Division." Vahlen remarks with a hint of pride.

"You're not going to try and make creepy clones or mind transfers or any of that shit, are you?" Woel asks warily.

"Well, thanks in no small part to you, I've concluded that cloning creates more problems than it solves." Vahlen remarks. "Creating a brand new existence makes things far more streamlined."

Yeah, of course Vahlen had to word it like that.

"All I need are regular physical checkups, and the occasional blood and tissue sample." Vahlen finally says. "I take you'll have no issues with this?"

"I guess not." Woel sighs and turns to you. "Hoel?"

"Sounds innocent enough." You concede. "But I'll be keeping my eye you."

"As expected." Vahlen nods.

"You know, Doctor." The Admiral speaks up again. "I know Pacifica has been operating with us for quite some time, and her capabilities have steadily increased. However, I don't recall you ever revealing to us the exact construction methods behind her, or Woel, for that matter."

"Highly classified processes, of course." Vahlen says stone faced.

"Hey, I kinda want to know how I was made." Woel adds in.

"Unfortunately, that's information that's not within my control to divulge." Vahlen says coldly.

"Now girls, let's not corner Vahlen here. She is a guest of ours, after all." The Captain steps in. "Doctor, thank you for your understanding."

"As with you." Vahlen nods and stands up, ready to leave. "Perhaps we can get started on the checkup, if you are not occupied."

"Um, sure." Woel nods and gets up as well.

You decide to tag along with Woel, determined not to let her out of your sight. Vahlen for her part doesn't say anything as the three of you head back to the workshop where her field lab is set up . You pass by several shipgirls, including a couple of Russian ones, taking advantage of the repair dock as you pass them.

Finally, you're brought to small, sterile room resembling that of a doctor's office.

"I will make the necessary preparations." Vahlen remarks as she leads you into the room and then takes her leave.

"Hey, Hoel." Woel mumbles. "I've kinda been thinking."

"That can't be good." You frown.

"Shut up." She rolls her eyes. "Look, I've been thinking that get a datalink installed."

"Really?" You blink.

"Yeah, it might help me." Woel bits her lip. "Whenever I'm asleep, or if I'm out in the dark by myself, I get these...flashes. Glimpses of shapes and places. I think... I think they're memories."

"Really now?" You raise an eyebrow in alarm.

"Yeah." Woel nods. "They might be... memories of when I was, well, made. If I get a datalink... that might help me piece things together."

Damn. On one hand, such a thing could give you better insight on how Woel and Pacifica were "made." On the other, what sort of side effects would such an application of the datalink have on her mind?

"Go for it." You nod. "If there's anybody who deserves to know the truth, it's you."

"Thanks, Hoel. I'll bring it up with Shen." Woel grins.

Well, you weren't sure what the ramifications of this were going to be, but whatever they were, at least you would be there with Woel-

"All right, it's check up time." Vahlen announces as she enters, carrying a tray full of syringes. A lot of very large, very sharp looking syringes.

Goddamn Kraut.
