Welcome back to Dark Empire Quest, where you the players aid the reborn Emperor Palpatine and Imperial Commander Alana Tyrna as they fight to rebuild the Galactic Empire after the crushing defeat at Endor and the subsequent collapse. We will guide their choices, deal with the consequences of their actions, and work to ensure the Empire rises once again.

I allow between ten and twenty minutes for voting depending on the importance of the issue and how divided the vote is. If the vote is tied up, I usually allow an extra five minutes for a tie breaker, and if no one votes, I roll for the tie breaker (The will of the dark side).

I always try to incorporate (and encourage) write ins if they don't violate the spirit of voted decisions, though I may edit or tweak them to fit better.

I also am always open for questions. I'll just ask that they stay relevant to current events in the quest, or at least the near future.

Alana scored a decisive victory over the Rebels at Trellen, though at great personal cost. With that, coupled with Yazz's victory over the Imperial Remnants at Corellia, a vast swath of the Core is now under Rebel control. Not to mention a crushing victory over the Rebellion was scored at Kuat, bolstering morale across the Empire. More immediately, Darth Cythera is seeking to find and kill Jedi Master Luke Skywalker. She has learned his location from a group of bounty hunters. They informed the Dark Lord that Skywalker has established a small Jedi training facility on the frozen world of Rhen Var.
>>
You are Sith Lord Darth Cythera. Once known as Mara Jade, now the Emperor's apprentice. Your mission is to track down and kill Luke Skywalker. You have made a decision to make the journey to Rhen Var aboard a less conspicuous ship than your Star Destroyer Blood Oath. For this task, you have been given a prototype vessel colloquially called a "Sith Cruiser". It is officially a Korriban-Class Assault Ship. A long range, stealthy vessel that comes equipped with a squadron of Tie Avengers and a company of Shadowtroopers as well as necessary landing craft and a pair of Infiltrators, stealth craft that you are told base their original design on one utilized by the Emperor's first apprentice. Korriban exists as the first of an envisioned class of vessels to bridge the gap between Navy and Dark Order, allowing Dark Siders to travel at will throughout the galaxy, executing the Emperor's will.

With that settled, it remains for you to decide on how you will be accompanied to Rhen Var for your engagement with Luke. Going more or less alone would be a powerful show of confidence and strength. However, bringing backup may help even the odds, even at the cost of some pride and prestige.

There's no reason to take chances. You decide that Sedriss and a cadre of his best warriors would come.

They boarded the ship at the same time as just about everyone else. Korriban was being prepped for its maiden voyage, discounting the trip from Byss to Coruscant. You ensured you were there personally to meet the Dark Siders to accompany you. First off the shuttle was Executor Sedriss himself. Looking more like a mischievous Swoop jockey than a military leader. The devious grin on his face didn't help. Accompanying him were four others. A rough looking bunch in battle armor. The first of the Blackguard, trained up from the Dark Side elite.

"Darth Cythera," Sedriss says as he steps from the ramp. "My my, how time flies. I recall when you were merely another student under my wing. Now look at you, running errands for the Emperor himself." he pauses, "Although, that doesn't seem to be much of a chance from Emperor's Hand."

"Don't take it personally, big guy," you say in a mock soothing tone, "It's nothing personal. The Empire is a meritocracy."

Sedriss scowls back at you, anger simmering. "Is that so?" he asks, "In that case I would imagine the illustrious apprentice would be able to handle a measly jedi."

You shake your head, folding your arms over your chest, "Look, I don't like you and you don't like me but we both are servants of the empire. So let's get this done and after we can go back to mutual antipathy."

"You're weak, Jade. You're a spy playing at war," Sedriss retorts, "I have no fear of you, and I feel no need to accept your measly peace offering. The Emperor is best served by his most able servants." he sneers, "I happen to know who that is, but unfortunately we can't all have the same kind of . . . close relationship you share."

"Whatever," you shrug. "I don't care what you think, Sedriss. Just deal with it. Unlike you, I have bigger problems to worry about. I can't afford to just complain about every little thing that doesn't go my way like you can."

You don't give the Executor time to respond, turning and sauntering away. "Start plotting a course for Rhen Var," you order a passing officer. You were just going to have to let out all this pent up frustration on Skywalker. Once you got to him. Provided he was still there.

Kuat was a bloodbath.

You are Emperor Palpatine. Sitting in your ever-present throne, you lean back, eyes closed, savoring the memory. You remembered feeling the echoes of the Rebels thoughts through the force, the hope and excitement they felt upon seeing Kuat virtually undefended. And what a boon, an Imperial fleet in drydock as well, more ships to capture for the Rebel war effort!

You remembered feeling these sensations sink as your fleets arrived behind them, interdictor cruisers powering up their gravity well generators, forming a virtually impenetrable wall behind them. The pitiful mutinies across your navy meant nothing. In practice, it resulted only in a dozen or so small escort craft "vanishing" across your navy, and a failed attempt to seize control over an Imperial-Class. Numerically, it was equivalent to a lost skirmish, and best of all, it was not in time to warn the Rebellion about the Kuat trap.

The Rebels completely flat footed. Your fleets fell on them from hypserspace, turbolasers pumping death. You had numerical superiority and you had the element of surprise. As Tie Avengers and Shadow Droids devastated their fighter formations, Tarkin and your Star Destroyers savaged their capital ships, rending hulls up and breaking ships like twigs.

What had been four Rebel combat fleets was barely one when the survivors managed to finally escape gravity's deadly hold on them and jump for safety. All this at the cost of minor damage to the Kuat Drive Yards and another fleet put into repair.

The Rebels could not shrug off such losses easily, especially not given the news that Thrawn had taken this opportunity to launch his own war of expansion against the Rebels and Zsinj alike, reclaiming dozens of worlds virtually unopposed.

Of course, following your smashing victory at Kuat, you knew something must be done about your conscript reliability issue. Following this series of engagements your officer corps is even more short staffed than before, everywhere is calling for reinforcement and component, quality officers. Field promotion of conscripts, and the inclusion of women in ranks, had helped to close those gaps, but now, after the attempt at wide-spread mutiny, much of the trust in the conscripts has been lost, even though there were comparatively few conscripts involved. Action is being called for to prevent such issues from cropping up again.

>We will have our Commissars do a thorough reliability check of the entire navy.
>All conscript officers will be returned to their previous rank and responsibility until we can determine who to trust
>This experiment is finished. We will find another method to replenish our officer ranks
>All of our new officers cannot be blamed for the actions of a few. Reward their loyalty.

The Mutinies were clearly a coordinated effort by rebel infiltrators. Find whoever allowed the mutineers into the fleet and bring them to me. With a relatively narrow pool of known traitors determining who inducted them into the navy in the first place should be possible.

I'll also add:
Cloning officers won't fix your officer issue at the moment, because even clones need to be trained. Especially if they're going to be leaders. Accelerated growth and whatnot works for troopers + pilots, but officers need more intensive training. If you had that time and manpower, you could just train regular human recruits.

>>
The Kommissari would do the task it was trained to do. You will also reward those who stayed loyal, especially in the face of mutiny. Medals are to be awarded, promotions given, and in some extreme cases, noble titles awarded. "Baron of Byss" in the days of the Old Empire was a fairly unusual title to come across. Now it was much sought after.

That being said, it was clear to you that some sort of conspiracy was in place to allow this to happen. You insist that your Bureaucratic machine pull its weight and track down the source of these "bad fruit" that ruined the bunch. It's at this point you discover an unpleasant surprise. You have never guessed the extent of the damage to official record keeping. After the defeat at Endor, the collapse of the government, the infighting, so many worlds changing hands, there are vast quantities of data that have been lost. During the Withdrawal, many men and some women even were pressed into service out of necessity and never had any proper paperwork done.

In some cases, the chain is clear, it seems that these Rebel groups in your officer corps acted like cells, with one or two infiltrators conditioning and indoctrinating vast masses of displeased conscripts, many light years from home, fighting for a government they despised.

In others, there is no easy to follow data trail. Whether though oversight or incompetence, the cause wasn't clear.

However, a number of leads all seem to point to a small collection of Bureaucrats across the empire.

>Arrest them and launch a full investigation. We must be sure they are the guilty ones.
>Execute them, we have no time for such frivolities
>Monitor them, perhaps they will lead us to other Rebels
>>
>>1469150
>Arrest most of them, and watch the rest as they squirm and head to the others.
>>
>>1469150
>>Monitor them, perhaps they will lead us to other Rebels
We can play the waiting game. However, if they try to enact another "plan", then we will launch on them
>>
>>1469150
>>Arrest them and launch a full investigation. We must be sure they are the guilty ones.

We can use our darksiders to rip any information they know from their mind of even force compliance as a double agent. I would lean towards "disappearing" over overtly arresting the bureaucrats for treason.

The rebels may burn the agents once they realize the agents are being monitored. Our course is safer. Plus, the rebels may foolishly attempt to break their traitors out of prison, so that is another trap we can pay if necessary.
>>
>>1469164
This is smart. I'm changing my vote to back this.

We can still lay a trap for the rebels with those we do capture and can use the dark side on their feeble minds.
>>
>>1469180
yeah we can't just shoot ppl untill after we are shure they are the right ppl to shoot
>>
>>1469150
>Arrest them and launch a full investigation. We must be sure they are the guilty ones.

But do this too:
>>1469164
>>1469165

We will investigate and once we have enough evidences we start making arrests. While this accour the truly guilty will be taken by fear and try to communicate with the rebels cells inside our ranks we can do this to narrow then down and elimitate the infiltrators efficiently.

They will be observed, arrested, interrogated, and otherwise pumped for data to verify their story. Such matters fall beneath your notice however. Isard and ap-Llewff may fight over the responsibility for all you care. And on that note, there is a minor problem with your military investigation. Given the extent of your navy, the meager handful of Commissars you've so far trained and assembled wouldn't be enough to cover your entire fleet, or not in any reasonable amount of time.

The Kommissari will just get first pick of the new adepts. It would be the other branches would likely remain small, but it will serve your purposes. With the fallout from the Conscript Uprising in hand, you took time to analyze the military situation in front of your empire.

After this lighting advance of your forces and borders, you naval supply depots are all but exhausted, many of your ships are overdue for routine maintenance. There is grumblings in the navy about halting your expansion to consolidate your gains, while others want to press the advantage while it exists, even if it means straining the navy close to the breaking point. There is specifically an issue with Kuat. Normally, the ship-building world could crank out warships with no stopping, but that was with the resources of an Empire behind their dockyards. With Balmorra devastated, Kuat needs a source for its parts and technical components, otherwise it will only have the capacity to maintain your existing fleet. Foundry will be vital to increasing production for its role as a factory world. To a lesser degree, Commenor as a trade hub would be useful for securing raw materials.

But the needs of one world aren't the only factor to consider. You still have the repugnant Xenos in the Korrnacht cluster near Coruscant to deal with, as well as Thrawn, Reddrin, the untamed regions to the south, the Rebelion, etc.

>We will consolidate, our victory at Kuat has bought us time to replenish and repair
>We will strike our foe while they are down, organize a campaign to retake Foundry and Commenor at once!
>Consult Grand Admiral Zahn
>Consult an assembly of admirals under Zahn, the more opinions the better.

Risking mechanical failure, crew failure, supply line failure. The chance is slim, but you're beyond "recommended usage" Most ships/crews have been on campaign more or less constantly since you took Coruscant. They need rest from time to time.
>>
>>1469455
To elaborate. The entire navy is not going to just crumble under the strain of flying to another planet. But men and machines will break down. Supply lines will run thin. They won't be in peak condition. And if you suddenly have to call on them to do real hard work (Stopping an unexpected counter attack) it may be beyond them
>>
>>1469478

>>
>>1469486
And we lost some ships. Be it by the revolting conscripts or any other reasong. The rebels are crippled and with Thrawn making a move it's the perfect time for solidify our holds.

The time seems right to reclaim Foundry and Commenor and knock the Rebellion back, especially given your light losses, and the Rebels preoccupation with Thrawn, but nonetheless you opt to convene the council of admirals. When you make your decision clear to your ruling circle, your Director of intelligence, Yssane Isard, who had been ominously silent during these past few weeks leading up to and following the Battle of Kuat, has declared in a rather vague com message, that she has a surprise for you that she would like to present personally, before your council is assembled.

Patience thin, you approve her meeting with you in your main throne room on Coruscant. Your sour mood quickly lightens to amusement when the doors open and a squad of Deathtroopers enter, dragging and shoving along a man in a rumpled admirals uniform with a black bag pulled over his head. Behind him, Isard, marching triumphant. This strange procession comes to a halt a short distance from you, two of the troopers shoving their captive to his knees.

"Your highness," Isard says, the bagged figure jerking as if shot, "You offered me forgiveness for distrusting your identity in exchange for the head of a warlord. I present-" she yanks the bag off, revealing a terrified "High Admiral" Reddrin, blinking against the sudden light. "Admiral Reddrin."

You cackle at the sight, "Good, good!"

"My liege!" Reddrin shouts, "I had no intentions of resisting you, I was merely afraid to-"

"Be silent," you wave your hand an quiet the warlord.

"Reddrin is ours, and I have secured a pledge of loyalty from one of his top ranking officers who is prepared to negotiate his return to the Empire."

"Well done, Yssane," You say, surveying her captive. "I had ordered you to get rid of him, but you have surpassed my expectations. I expect this work ethic to only increase."

"Of course, your highness." Isard's face is unmoved, cold, professional, but you can tell on the inside she is practically beaming.

"It's always a pleasure to get to conduct the torturing of such a remarkable specimen of scum myself."

"Your majesty-!" Reddrin protests.

Isard slaps the back of his head, "You will be silent as your emperor commands!"

Reddrin whimpers and says nothing.

"And what of these negotiations you promised?" You ask warily.

"Commander Lobnik is quite enthusiastic about the chance to rejoin his emperor," Isard replies, "Especially when advancement opportunities are present. He mentioned specifically to me his wish to be your second Grand Admiral, although I did my best to temper that expectation. He also mentioned a passing interest in being named Commandant of the Anaxes Imperial War College."

We can always give him a noble title we now have Berrin's planets in our control and with his fleet added to ours we may be able to continue our war and take Foundry.

>>1469739
Good point. No shame in throwing a few harmless titles his way.

We should watch for incompetence, however. There is a chance he would be a poor admiral in practice and if so he would need to be removed the same way Admiral Ozzel was.

"Perhaps Lobnik will be one of our admirals first," even as you speak, you think hungril of the fresh supply of officers and ships this exchange will likely free up for you. Your navy is starting to outgrow the small number of admirals you have to wield it. "I'm sure Lobnik would have made a fine Commandant," You add "However keep track of him and his allies for a while, If anything . . . Untoward seems to be happening . . . deal with him and those who support him."

Now Isard does smile, "It is already done, your highness."

"If someday Lobnik still wishes to be a Grand Admiral, then I will certainly remember his loyalty when I want to appoint a one. Do make sure to mention that to him the next time you two speak."

"Of course, your Majesty."

"And, be sure to inform Admiral Lobnik that he can consider himself a Baron of Brentaal. All of this will be dealt with at the unification ceremony, of course."

"I'll tell the Grand Vizier to draw up plans," Isard replies. "And, what of Reddrin?"

"Please, my liege, I can be useful to you! I can win your favor, please just give me another chance!" Reddrin cries.

>How do you plan to account for your vast multitude of failings, Reddrin?
>No. I think it's time you suffered for your lack of vision (Kill him)

If we show we reward the ones that come to us, as we will do to with Lobnik, and kill traitors this might cause some chaos on Thrawns faction and other small warlords.

I still say we make an example of the "high admiral" to his subjects and our own. this force ghost has just awakened from his UNLIMITED POWER nap and has a brilliant idea for what to do with our "high admiral"
We have a shortage of qualified officers and he is compentant if scummy. Bust his ass back down too the lowest rank that is still comissioned and have he serve again. If he servives and is sucsefful maybe he can earn his way back up the ranks. and maybe horses can fly

That is what i wanted to do with the public execution and the promotion of our new admiral. Doing so we show the other warlords that we will kill you if you don't bend the knee like Kuat did and we can cause trouble in their ranks if a greedy or unhappy officer wants to get a promotion.

Basicaly we would reward loyalty and punish treason.

Welcome back to Dark Empire.

Previously, Isard had handed over the self-proclaimed High Admiral of the Brentaal Protectorate to Palpatine, with the help of an officer named Lobnik. With the Brentaal Protectorate a thing of the past, fresh ships, troops, and worlds are at your disposal. And perhaps most valuable of all, the military academy on Anaxes.

It was here you had made plans to go, firstly to finalize your return to this stretch of space through a military parade, and secondarily to convene a Council of Admirals to work out the military future of your empire. Namely, to continue to press the rebels, or to stop and consolidate your fleet.

Before that much can be considered, the fate of the once "High Admiral" Reddrin hangs on your word.

As always follow Twitter for updates and game times.

***

You are Emperor Palpatine. Kneeling before you, groveling, begging, is a man who had once been one of your admirals.

"Anything, your majesty," he repeats, "I'll do anything you ask to atone for my mistakes."

"You are as cowardly as you are stupid, Reddrin," you reply, lip turned in a cruel sneer, raising a casual hand, fingers pointed loosely toward him, "I have no need of you."

Reddrin screams as electricity arcs through your fingertips and through his body. Vivid, searing pain cascading through every nerve in his body. He falls to his side thrashing back and forth.

"Your lust for power is your undoing, High Admiral," you mock, firing another jolt of energy through him. "After every chance I had given you, you turned your back on me.

"My Liege, please-!" Reddrin's voice tails off into a scream as he tosses side to side on the floor, electricity bleeding off into the floor panels.

His fingertips skate dance near the toe of Isaard's boot, forcing her to take a casual step backward from him.

"You once told me that taunts were the weapon of the weaponless. I hope in the last moments you have left, you're learning that isn't so."

Reddrin gasps for breath in one of the small breaks you give him between bursts of electricity, you see smoke curl up from his open mouth, toward the ceiling.

"Goodbye . . . Admiral."

"Your majesty-" Reddrin croaks. It's the last thing he ever says. His charred corpse slumps to the floor, limp and twitching.

"Will there be anything else, your highness?" Isard asks while two of her Deathtroopers pick up Reddrin's body by the arms and drag it out of your throne room.

"Yes, I want you to leak word that Reddrin was executed for treason and incompetence. Let the galaxy know what happened. This is the price for crossing me," you say.

"Yes, my liege."

"And make this Lobkin a success story. People can be rewarded for their loyalty. You're a prime example of that yourself, Director."

Isard returns a grim smile, "Of course."

***

On Anaxes, and in orbit above it, massive celebrations rock the planet. An Imperial Armada representing combined forces of the former Brentaal-Protectorate and your Empire is gathered in orbit, on the surface, vast flotillas of star fighters and assault ships pass overhead while legions of troops and armored vehicles march by, a steady procession demonstrating the unstoppable might of the Galactic Empire.

You would have liked your Apprentice, Darth Cythera, to have been present, but it was unfortunately impossible, given her assignment in tracking down Jedi.

The whole military parade is a great spectacle, and vast crowds of spectators have turned out for the event. It pales in comparison with your triumphant return to Coruscant. You have much important business to do, but there is also, of course, the endless procession of diplomats, dignitaries, and delegates to meet with, medals to be awarded, hands to shake.

You delegate what you can to the local Moffs and your Grand Vizier, but some socializing is inevitable. Most notable among your you functions, delivering a few powerful speeches, promoting Lobnik to Admiral and awarding him the title of Baron, overseeing the signing of the treaty that returns Reddrin's worlds to your control, and declaring Kuat Day in celebration of your victory over the rebellion. You also deliver a speech to a group of naval cadets at the Anaxes Imperial War College, eagerly encouraging their career choice, knowing that fresh batches of officers from this school will finally ease some of the burden on your decimated officer corps.

Late at night, after the endless functions you've had to attend, but before your planned Council of Admirals at the War College, one of your aids enters your personal suite in the Governmental Palace on Anaxes and whispers to you. "A holocom transmission from Grand Admiral Thrawn is coming in for you, my liege."

>Yes, put him through at once

"Put him on," you growl, turning to face the holopad in your room. Within moments it lights up, a full-size rendering of the Grand Admiral before you.

"My congratulations to you, your highness," Thrawn says, giving a low bow before straightening back up. "I've been following your campaigns against the Rebels with interest, and now with the traitor Reddrin removed from Brentaal, you've opened up a vital sector of the galaxy. I would have sent a representative or come myself, but I wasn't sure you would allow us to return." he finishes speaking with the ghost of a smile on his face.

You give Thrawn a broad smile, "You act as though I have no respect for you. You would be treated as an honored guest, Grand Admiral" you say. "I offered the same opportunity to Reddrin. "He attempted to proclaim his everlasting loyalty when I had him at my mercy. It was of course far too late at that point."

"I understand your meaning, your highness, but I am not sure you understand mine." Thrawn replies, "I would like very much to congratulate you in person, but at present do not wish to turn over myself, or my territory to your control."

Your good mood ebbs away, just slightly.

"You have no illusions about my intelligence, your highness, and I have none about yours. In your prolonged absence, I have done more than any other to keep the dream of Empire alive. Isard's rump state would not last a year against the Rebels, the other warlords lack the vision to build something truly lasting. I believe you are a powerful force user, and I believe you are a man of intelligence. I also believe you consider me a grave threat, and at the first opportunity you would strike me down as you did Reddrin and Harssk. "That remains to be seen," Thrawn says, smiling.

"You act as if I am completely incapable of forgiveness. I forgave Isard for not bowing to me immediately, I would likewise forgive you if you return to your rightful place by my side. However, my patience for your little experiment is wearing thin. You forget when you speak of 'all you have built' that I built it first." You narrow your eyes, your voice growing cold, "If you believe we cannot work together, then say so outright, but you are an intelligent enough being, I suspect, to not wish to be my enemy."

Thrawn nods, conceding the point.

"What assurances can I provide that you will be welcomed back to the order of you stray from the path of folly now? We both know there are more important matters to consider than petty infighting."

"On that point, I could not agree more, your highness," Thrawn replies, "However, I also know you are a shrewd and ruthless man. Perhaps one day we can integrate our forces. For now, I think it's best that I keep you at arm's length. After all, I am not only concerned with proving myself to you. I would also like to have you prove yourself to me."

"What do I have to prove for you?" You ask.

"That you are the man you claim to be."

"And did your spies not tell you of the storm over Coruscant?" you ask heatedly.

"Certainly, you are a great force user. But are you a great Emperor? We will see."

"You certainly will," you reply flatly.

"Now," Thrawn continues, changing the topic, "I understand you've appointed Zahn as a Grand Admiral. Zahn is a good officer. A bit conventional, but loyal. I should hope Zahn can provide your navy the guidance it needs in these trying times."

"It was sufficient enough for Coruscant and Kuat," you reply.

Thrawn raises an eyebrow, lip lifting into an amused grin, "Indeed? Well I understand he will be heading an Admiral's Council for you. I wish him the best of luck. Once again, I wish I could be there myself."

A display of loyalty, like coming in person, would be necessary.

>Why not join the meeting? We are speaking now, and you are still one of my Grand Admirals, are you not?

Reworking that into:
>Why not join the meeting? We are speaking now, and you are still A Grand Admiral of the EMPIRE, are you not?

He won't accept being our Grand Admiral yet, although it would be good to acknowledge his future loyalty and current helpfulness against the Rebellion during the meeting.

Also we can try and maneuver him during the meeting into making more overt gestures of friendliness as well as possibly hear any plans he is committing too.

This runs the risk of him knowing our plans and acting against us.

Oh, I entirely agree. Palpatine made everyone focus on the differences between each other so they were too busy looking at their neighbors to realize what Sheev was doing to them all.

The collected admirals filtered into the bunker conference room over the course of an hour. Such an assemblage of high ranking officers was a natural target for assassins and enemy agents, requiring security considerations of the highest degree. You yourself were flanked by two hulking sentinels. Silent soldiers and guardians of your personage. The Sentinels were cloned humans with extensive cybernetic and genetic augmentation, rendering them little more than biological wardroids.

Also present was the largest collection of Deathtroopers you'd seen in one place, nearly two whole platoons in all. Outside of the bunker which resided under an unremarkable resort hotel in the countryside of Anaxes, several squadrons of Tie Avengers stood by in the night to strike out at any threats, and nearly a squadron of assault shuttles were gathered nearby serving as the personal transport for the admirals and their staff.

It wasn't completely safe, but it was as safe as could be arranged.

The meeting room itself was dark, lit only by a large holotable currently displaying a map of the galaxy centered on the core.

Zahn, wearing his new, white, Grand Admiral's uniform, is the first to arrive. Soon the other admirals begin to show up, their staff and bodyguards following along.

A hologram of Grand Admiral Thrawn flickers to life at the conference table, as if he himself were present.

Zahn takes an involuntary step back, looking shocked.

"Hello, Admiral Zahn," Thrawn says, "I see you're doing well for yourself."

"W-what is this-" Zahn chockes off his words, "person doing here?"

"I have allowed his presence," you reply. "He will be observing our conference. Think of him as an ally."

"If you wish it, my liege," Zahn replies with a curt bow, "Will Executor Sedriss be joining us?"

"The Executor has been tasked with another assignment and will not be present," you reply.

Zahn nods, and begins to collect the small stack of Datacards he'd brought along, visibly trying to regain his composure, a mixture of nervous fear and anger at Thrawn's presence, though no one dares question it.

The highest levels of military decision making are present for this council meeting. Grand Admiral Zahn of course, looking just a bit nervous, if extremely proper. Zahn of course is the architect of not only the Liberation of Coruscant, but also Kuat.

Admiral Yazz who has taken a backseat in most of the campaigning so far looks attentive, if somewhat agitated. He's known for the independence he gives his subordinates, as well as a lust for aggression. He is currently known as the liberator of Corellia.

Admiral Oxtroe, unusual as a female in a male dominated field, is, like Zahn, an extremely orthodox leader. She's known to be harsh and unforgiving to subordinates who step out of line, but her results speak for themselves. She captured the Rendilli shipyards on her own initiative and led a successful campaign toward Corellia, also fought in the titanic Battle of Kuat.

The holographic Grand Admiral Thrawn, whose role in all this is unclear, but is here as an observer at any rate.

Lastly, your newest admiral is Admiral Lobkin, wearing the maroon sash of a baron over his uniform, he has a beakish nose, and the hint of a smile, like he knows the punchline to a joke he hasn’t Told. Lobkin previously served the Late "High Admiral" Reddrin as his second in command.

counting is hard[/i]
>>
"Gentlemen," Zahn begins, clearing his throat, "And ladies," he adds as an afterthought, "It is my distinct pleasure to sit among so many great military minds. Though we are small in number, we will be the architects of an Empire thay defied death, just as our own leader did." Zahn gestures to you. "We have much to discuss today, especially in regards to our planned military operations, so first I'd like to ask of there are any orders of business anyone would like to bring to our attention."

"Yes," Lobkin says, "Yes, I do have something." He speaks with the very precise tones of a core worlder, so precise you suspect he actually hails from Eriadu.

You sense Zahn's irritation as he addresses the upstart. "Yes, Admiral Lobkin."

"I'd like to inquire what we will be doing about the flag officers inherited from the Protectorate."

Zahn blinks, "What we will . . . do with them?"

Lobkin laughs softly, "I understand there is a Bantha in the room." He pauses, "One aside from our friend the long lost Grand Admiral," he adds with toothy grin to Thrawn before pressing on. "Yes. I am a former flag officer from the Brentaal Protectorate. But I want to make something clear. I willingly changed that to return to the rightful command of my emperor. I assure you, Grand Admiral, there are many in the former Protectorate who are not pleased with the return of the Empire. Many of them in the navy. Reddrin didn't only rule through fear."

"I see . . . Well what do you propose?" Zahn asks.

"We remove them," Lobnik replies plainly. "They are politically unreliable and can't be trusted."

Zahn flounders with a response and casts you a nervous glance

>Say nothing, let Zahn handle this
>They are officers of the Empire and we will take no blanket actions against them
>Admiral Lobnik knows more than we do, follow his recommendations
>>
>>1474504

It's also it's great to see all the reactions. I wonder what Zahn is afraid of. Wasn't he the one that stood at Endor until it was given the retreat order?

Glad to see that Lobkin is smilling.
>>
>>1474504
>Say nothing, let Zahn handle this

Perhaps give him an encouraging nod, but hes our grand admiral now, he can deal.
>>
>>1474504
>>Say nothing, let Zahn handle this
>>
>>1474504

It sounds like Lobnik is trying to consolidate his power. I presume the replacements would all be selected by him and therefore loyal to him?

>Write in, say:
We have a severe shortage trained of officers. Let's integrate the commissioned officers from the Protectorate throughout the fleet so those of some suspect loyalty will not be tempted to desert in one fell swoop. Also have the newly trained commissarii assigned to protectorate vessels as a priority.
>>
>>1474504
>They are officers of the Empire and we will take no blanket actions against them

We need proof if there is a suspicious we can arrest then. The Empires moral is broken we need to restore it for now we will have eyes on the higher ranking officers which Lobking will deliver to the intelligence director.

We will weed out any rebel in our ranks.
>>
>>1474529
Yup that's exactly his move and soon he gives us the list we will make Yssane whatch over the ones that Lobnik didn't mention. Those will most likely be the ones loyal to him.

And dam this boy sure is a idiot. Such a obvious move to take power from us.
>>
>>1474515
>Wasn't he the one that stood at Endor until it was given the retreat order?
Zahn fought past the retreat order in a way. Palleon issued a retreat order that Zahn ignored since he considered it to have violated the chain of command. He only withdrew when he could do so without violating orders.
>>
>>1474518
>>1474522
>>1474548

You guys are really allowing this boy to take control of OUR region? Besides giving our opinion is important we ARE the emperor.
>>
>>1474559
I'm allowing our grand admiral to step up to the plate and see what he has to say. If it's something stupid. We fix it. This is a learning experience for him and others that we trust those we appoint until they fuck up
>>
Why are people not saying anything. Geez.
>>
>>1474559
Well, I think what they're proposing is we hear Zahn out, and if we don't like Zahn's conclusion we overrule him. And this new admiral consolidating power doesn't necessarily mean he is disloyal, just that he is giving himself options. But if he means to consolidate an independent power base he will need to try harder and more subtly than that. This is the big boys club he is in now.

I do find this obvious power play highly distasteful, however. Especially seeing as it is conducted in front of Thrawn.
>>
>>1474559
Im fine with us giving our opinion afterwards, but Im interested in seeing if our "Grand Admiral" has the competency to be named such
>>
>>1474568
Well what's your proposal for what to say?

I already entered in my own write-in.

You remain silent, watching Zahn expectantly.

"Admiral Lobkin," Zahn says , as if he has to remind the man of his rank, "I find it very distasteful that you advocate what amounts to a purge of the officers of the Protectorate."

Lobkin snorts and rolls his eyes, "Yes, I'm sure you know best Grand Admiral."

Zahn's face turns red with anger.

"I'm stating plain facts." Lobkin rocks back in his seat, "Why do you suspect the officers of the Protectore didn't all jump at the opportunity to rejoin the Empire?"

"Because they couldn't all be given Admiralships," Yazz retorts, arms crossed.

Oxtroe averts her gaze, trying not to laugh as anger flashes across Lobkin's features.

"Fine, do as you will. It makes no difference to me. I want it made clear that I formally request to have as little contact as possible with those forces," Lobkin says.

Zahn sighs, "We can look into a comprehensive restructuring, transferring of line officers between vessels, and transferring ships between commands. Would that be acceptable to you, Admiral?"

Lobkin mulls it over, "Acceptable, certainly. Ideal, no."

"Acceptable it is then," Zahn says, fuming.

"I have an order of business," Yazz adds, "Take a moment, look around. The Galactic Empire has three admirals. Four all included." Yazz was obviously excluding Thrawn, but it wasn't clear if he was also excluding Grand Admiral Zahn, or Lobnik. "That's simply not acceptable."

"With the Anaxes War College Liberated, our officer crisis should be resolved to the point where-" Zahn starts.

"Sure, we'll get a bunch of shiny new Lieutenants and Ensigns to rattle around in our ISDs and feel tall running Carracks, but I mean real, true-to-life flag officers," Yazz continues, "Hell, I know of a couple officers who served under me in the last go-through that should be bumped up to high staff positions at least."

Oxtroe nods, "I concur, especially with the sudden influx of new vessels we have. We need good men and women to lead them."

We will need to personally approve new Admirals I believe.
>>
"Of course," you speak up, "Our navy cannot thrive without more leadership. Grand Admiral Zahn, what do you propose?"

Zahn swallows, "Ah, well I suspect that Admiral Yazz has a firm grasp of his subordinates, however I would prefer some oversight on promotions. I would advocate we establish a review board, perhaps here on Anaxes, to review and authorize any promotions recommended."

"Creating a bottleneck?" Yazz asks, "Is the solution really more bureaucracy?"

"A functional Bureaucracy keeps the Empire afloat," Zahn replies.

>Side with Zahn on the creation of a board or commission to approve high level promotions

Admiral Yazz, CO's can issue acting warrants and command authority. These acting promotions will have all the rank of fully commissioned officers. This should prevent the bottleneck you are concerned about. However, we should establish a board to review these acting commands and promotions to confirm them when expedient.

Zahn nods, "Yes, of course your highness. We'll begin the creation of such a board right away."

"I would be amiss not to mention this," Oxtroe says suddenly. "This is a council of war after all but, have we considered other possibilities?"

"Elaborate, if you would," Zahn replies.

"While granted we can ultimately defeat the rebellion as well as any other rogue warlords. But perhaps that's not strictly necessary," Oxtroe finishes.

"Diplomatic channels have already been opened to the warlords," Zahn replies, his voice tired, "They've all but refused to come peacefully."

"You are right, but I'm talking about the Rebels, the ones calling themselves the 'New Republic'. Granted we just smashed their fleet at Kuat, but their territory is expansive, their military growing, certainly those losses won't stop them for long. Perhaps a diplomatic solution to this conflict exists

Oxtroe suddenly looks very self-conscious, "I wasn't proposing we give in, just that diplomatic channels-"

"I won't hear of it," Zahn says firmly.

"Have some backbone, woman," Yazz mutters.

Lobkin blows a smoke ring at the ceiling, "The Rebels certainly didn't seem interested in talking it out while you were cutting them up at Kuat."

Oxtroe glares at Lobkin, "Perhaps if we spoke with them at lease, we could find a way to end this war before more die."

The other admirals say nothing, a wal of passive disdain. Oxtroe glances at you briefly, your eyes meeting. She finds no support.

"Of course, I yield to the decisions of this council," she sits back down.

With the question settled, you consider a topic of your own.

With the Brentaal Protectorate under your control, you also have control over the world of Chandrilla. An important core world, but something ofa "Black Nerf" among the Core Worlds through its traditionally radical views. In this case, a love of peace and vague support for the Rebellion.
