Dungeon Civ takes place inside a stereotypical RPG Dungeon.

You are a race of Slimes living on the 55th floor of the Dungeon. Floor 55 is a Ruined City which grants defensive bonuses. The most recent Dungeon God has granted all the creatures on your Floor sentience and the ability to grow beyond their initial parameters. You were a mid level boss named Kulnarth (the all consuming) a Royal Slime.

Recently you fought a giant machine, saved its core, and named it Woolsworth. He makes techy things for you. You've also begun your invasion of the Demon Lord Eciscorax's realm. Your Floor also become Level 3 recently.

>Stats
Breeding determines how quickly your race spawns and respawns, and the Floor unit cap for your race.

Melee determines how well you fight with Melee weapons, and the maximum level of Melee weapons your race can equip. Also determines your base defense against Melee attacks.

Ranged works like Melee, but for Ranged weapons. Ranged weapons do less damage than Melee weapons on average. Also determines defense against Ranged attacks.

Magic determines what type of Magic you can equip. Equipping a type of magic will often change your type conferring bonuses and weaknesses. Also determines the strength of your magic and defense against magic.
(Some magic will require a Melee or Ranged roll)

Technology is useful for building and detecting traps, and determines the best equipment your race naturally produces. Also effects accessory limits.

Diplomacy affects party size, trade, and your diplomatic interaction with other races. Also determines whether or not you can accept a certain race into your Hero's Party.

Many of these can be improved or modified.

>Heroes

A hero is a unit well above the average for its race. Some Dungeon Races generate Heroes naturally, others have to work towards them. Heroes are allowed to equip special equipment and act independently of their racial holdings.

Sometimes a group of Heroes will descend into the Dungeon from the Outside. These are almost always powerful beings hoping to challenge the Dungeon God. It is not unheard of for such Heroes to annihilate entire Floors.

>Floor

The Floor is your world, but that doesn't mean you know all its secrets. Becoming the dominant Race on a floor can allow you to increase its Level.
Floor 55 has recently become a level 2 Floor.

>Stronghold

The Stronghold is the center of your Race's power. Heroes will rest here when not on assignment or questing. And the items of fallen Adventurers and Heroes will be stored here. If your Stronghold is destroyed all of your basic racial units on that floor will die immediately leaving only your Hero units. Your Stronghold is the Ruined Baths zone next to the Floor starting area.

>Dice

All rolls are 1d20 best of three. Your roll will be modified by magic, equipment, accessories, racial bonuses, and other modifiers as deemed necessary.

With her keen hearing and finely honed ninja senses Tethys easily tracks the strange scraping noise. It moves this way and that around the interior of the Wall almost as if lost. More than one Slime defender seems puzzled at the odd noises, even more so when the ninja rat walks through in pursuit.

Eventually a Hidden door deep within the Wall grinds open with the ponderous sound of stone across stone. The Demon Lieutenant squeezes herself out of the tight passageway and into the Hidden Treasure Horde chuckling to herself as she sees the invaders haven't found it. Tethys red gleaming eyes shining down from the rafters goes unnoticed due to her Hidden Status.

Even as the enemy Lieutenant begins cackling to herself in triumph Tethys drops a Stun Bomb.

The fight doesn't even last the whole Surprise Round.

>Demon Lieutenant captured
>475 Gp acquired

In the Ruined Library Ash faces problems of her own. Uncertain what to do Ash wrecks her brain for a way to safely deactivate the strange device. Without understanding it, it might as well be a trap waiting to go off. Ash tries something she's only read about.

>Ash gains Summon Sprite 1

A small water pixie appears. These spirits are useless for combat, but can help carry things and deliver messages.

Ash describes the various mechanisms and devices and sends the sprite on its way to get help.

>Choose two of the previous options, you will receive a passive bonus on your rolls.

Back at the Baths Kulnarth continues questioning Visca about her race. After all, she's clearly a Slime. She has a core and everything.
If your not a Slime then what are you?

Turning from her statue abuse she levels a dissatisfied stare at you.

"I didn't mean I'm not a Slime. Of course I'm a Slime. How could I EVER forget that? What I mean is that I'm nothing at all like you, which is to say a monster."

Well you didn't have much choice that the dungeon spawned you.

"I don't care. Your life has just been an endless nothing filled with horror and death. Eadwin says it's different now so I'll work with you for his sake. But don't think for a second that I will forget what you are. The Dungeon God could snatch your will away like a toy at any time."

You don't really think that's what's going on.

"It would be just like a monster to lure us in like this."

Your not luring anyone anywhere. She should relax a bit. Does she want to splash in the pool? It's really clean!

The glare you get in return is as daunting as any Floor Boss stare.

"No, thank you Kulnarth. I am afraid I must decline. Besides Eadwin will be here soon, you should prepare."

Prepare what?

"Aren't we going to need a place to stay? A former Stronghold would be best of course, but failing that you could repurpose a zone. Don't expect us to use the sewers."

You hadn't thought of that!

As Tethys leads a subdued and restrained Demon Lieutenant out of the Castle Wall and into the Courtyard she is met by Demon Slime.

>Dominance roll 20!

The two Demonic entities stare at one another ignoring everything else for a moment. Demon Slime reaches a clawed hand out to almost tenderly grasp one of the Lieutenants ornate horns.

"Hey, what are you-"

"Don't you dare-"

Both Tethys and the Lieutenant's protests are cut short when Demon Slime surges upwards before slamming Lieutenant's head into the courtyard so hard that a spiderweb of damage cracks appears. Her normally emotionless expression cracks into the smallest satisfied smile as she lifts the Lieutenant's head up only to repeatedly slam it back into the ground. The fifth time she does so there is a sickening snapping sound as Lieutenant's right horn breaks off in Demon Slimes hand. Demon Slime clutches the broken horn to her Core like a trophy. For their part Tethys and the Slimes stationed here are staring at Demon Slime like she has gone insane. Ignoring the shocked looks of her allies Demon Slime grabs hold of Demon Lieutenant's ankle and drags her out of her face shaped crater and away.

In the Black Market Kulnarth inspects the space designated for an extra building. There are several ways he could go about building the Adventurers Guild Hall. A traditional approach would be most familiar to the adventurers and they would feel at ease. A more lavish hotel type building would encourage more of them to stay on the floor. A seedy Bandit Hall type building rife with secret passages would make it easier to spy on them, but they would probably feel less at home.

>build a standard adventurers Guild (Adventurers get bonus Xp)
>build a comfy home away from home (more Adventurers stay here)
>Build a Thieves Den like Guild Hall (spying on the Adventurers is easier, but they will be less at ease)
>Ask Alchemist to take care of the design for you.
>Ask Visca to design the building
>Wait for Guild Master Eadwin to return before building

In the Ruined Library Ash is supremely relieved when Woolsworth arrives to help dismantle the malfunctioning device.

With deft hands he quickly disconnects the Communication Pylon from its housing, and the magic conversion siphon is detached as well. Unfortunately the failsafe destruct sequence cannot be halted or aborted, and the Heroes are forced to flee from the ensuing explosion.

Ash and Woolsworth dive out of the front door of the library just as a massive billowing cloud of explosive fireball overtakes them along with the rest of the Library. As the smoke and flames clear the two are revealed behind a shimmering bubble of aquamarine force that wavers and dissipate s. It seems Ash used Bubble Shield to protect them from the device.

The Ruined Library is now truly destroyed. The explosion has left no stone standing atop another, and even the rubble quickly fades into an empty lot.
You now have another free Zone to turn into a Stronghold of one type or another!

Proceeding home to the Baths Woolsworth walks off with the crystal muttering about attunement frequencies and Dynamic harmonics and the like. After much banging Ash eventually manages to open the locked container.

Kulnarth decides to start this alliance off on a cooperative note and waits for Eadwin to appear.

The armored elven warrior does not keep Kulnarth waiting long. Interestingly he walks in from the starting area rather than using a portal or teleport scroll. Perhaps they are running low on such resources, or perhaps he was already nearby?

Walking up to Kulnarth Eadwin extends his hand and smiles before speaking.

"Lord Kulnarth, I am very pleased to hear you want to cooperate with our Guild. I am sorry for my absence, but there was a group of adventurers caught on the 32nd floor. Nothing but Snake-people and Driders there now. A shame really. Is this where you propose to set aside space for us? It's a lovely spot, nice and centrally located. Good access to all the various zones. This is very thoughtful of you I must say. I half expected you to set us down in he Sewers or some such. Not that I could blame you after the trouble Frederick has caused you. Though, I could not help but to notice the vacant Zone north of your Baths. I don't suppose you could be persuaded to part with them? "

The Elf seems to be asking in a good natured manner, and his smile hasn't dimmed a bit.

Kulnarth explains the various options e had thought up for the Guild Hall and asks Eadwin which he prefers

"Ah hmm. Well if your asking me I think a Hospital Guild would be best. Ready access to healing and Cure-All is often the difference between life and death for an adventurer. And it's a little known secret that the proximity of an Alchemist or Apothecary increases the effectiveness of such a building. But I am a guest here. Even if you choose to relegate our Guild to the lowest hole of the sewers I would be grateful. And it would teach the younger members not to complain of any type of shelter in the Dungeon!"

Hmm.

Assuming you keep the Stronghold for yourself, what would you like to do with it? No matter what you build there it will remain isolated and esoteric like the Library was.

Pausing in his discussion over real estate Kulnarth goes back to the Baths to relax. On his way to the Royal Pools however he sees Ash staring at a trio of books.

What Arne you looking at?

"UWAH!"

Ash jumps sending the books tumbling down to the floor.

"Ah Kulnarth. You startled me. I was just trying to decide which Tome to read"

Huh? The red one obviously.

"But, I've been training in water magic so much, aren't I more useful that way?"

Nah. Well yeah, but she likes Ifrit right?

"Well, yes I do"

Then it's not a problem. Besides you had something else in mind for her as well so she might as well go for it!

"Oh well if you say so. I will come find you when I'm done"

Yep, you'll be relaxing.

Several hours later Ash walks into your Throne Room in her familiar red Mage's outfit.

>Ash has attained level 5 as a Fire Mage
>Skills: Fire 5
>Skills: none
>Skills: none
>Equip: Fire Robes
>Accessories: Breathing Mask

Looking good!

Kulnarth tosses Ash a handful of Xp tokens.

"Ah, these aren't enough to level up again..."

Sure they are, just concentrate on that -other- job.

"What other job? Well alright."

Ash bows her head over the Xp tokens in her hands. After what seems like forever they flare once and twice before being absorbed into Ash to fuel her new class.

>Ash attains Artificer Level 2

>Skills: Auto-Crossbow
Attacks 1-3 enemies with a spray of bolts
>Skills: Assist Pod
Summons an Assist Pod to Regen one ally.
Equip: Duster, Auto-Crossbow
Accessories: Breathing mask

You can switch Ash between her jobs freely outside of combat.

See now you can do a lot more stuff!

Kulnarth seems very excited. Ash looks a little confused by her new gear.

Elsewhere the Shrine of Undine begins emitting a subtle glow.

Kulnarth readily agrees to Eadwin's suggestion. Between the two of them and with the efforts of the numerous Slimes the Guild Hospital is erected quickly and easily.

"Ah thank you Kulnarth! It eases my mind to know that this site will provide aid and succor for stranded Adventurers. You have done us a great service this day. It is a thing we will not soon forget I can assure you. Need dictates that I return to the lower floors, but I will Leave Visca here to govern the Hospital until one of our White Mages can be repurposed."

Visca for her part seems shocked at the news and speaks up in protest.

"Um Sir, would I not be better serving on the front lines of this conflict... next to your side?"

"I am afraid not Visca, a member of the guild must remain with the Hospital to ensure it doesn't fall into the hands of our enemies. There is no one else I would entrust with so vital a mission. This building may well determine the future survival of our Guild after all!"

"Ah, yes Sir. I will do my best!"

After thanking you once more and providing some simple advice to Visca Sir Eadwin leaves for the lower floors.

Leaving you to decide what to do with the newly opened territory.

Mulling it over in your Throne room you eventually decide to install Woolsworth as a Boss over there. Who knows what kind of techy stuff the old guy will make?

Escorting the confused tech-savant to the desolate site you formally inform him of his investiture.

"Hmm my my, quite unexpected Sir. Quite unexpected indeed. Well it's not beyond my capacity, and of a surety I am familiar with the location. Hmm well why not? Let's begin at once Sir."

So saying Woolsworth claims the Stronghold. The now familiar flash of light engulfs the zone, and when it passes it has changed dramatically.
Where once a lonely Library stood amidst lightly forested mountainside there now squats half a dozen domed buildings each connected by bundles of wires and conduits. Surrounding all is a perimeter wall with tall poles mounted with lights on top. The entire instillation seems sterile and antiseptic in its precise nature. Even as you watch a spindly legged spider like creature exits a hatch in the side of one of the forward buildings.

"Hmm my first unit. It seems to have a much different design philosophy that I'm used to. Oh this will be interesting!"

Woolsworth heads inside to take stock of his new Stronghold.

The turn begins bright and early. Things are definitely looking up! If the last battle is any indication, then most of Eviscorax' Demons are dead, and he will probably have a harder time replenishing his forces than you have had yours. The Ruined Baths are nearly full with fresh spawned Slimes, and the Upper Sewers are also full of Oozes. It's time to invade. For dominion, for victory, for glory and vengeance and-

Kulnarth's megalomaniacal rant is cut short by a polite cough. Lowering his arms and stepping down from the seat of his throne he observes Alchemist standing in the doorway.

"Sorry to interrupt whatever that was, but I have your order ready."

She holds up a brown paper package tied with string.

"I have three Holy Water at a discounted price of 75 Gp each, plus a special Opening Week Bonus of three Potions."

Wait, doesn't the Dungeon prevent her from giving things away?

"Well yeah, but nothing says I can't offer special deals! E-especially since no ones buying anything yet! Look just don't make a big deal about it alright?"

Well if she says so.

"Besides I'd think you were more concerned with the screaming."

Screaming?

"You... have been inside here for a while huh?"

Not really no.

"Ah well come on then."

Kulnarth follows Alchemist out of the throne room and into the main area of the Ruined Baths. For several steps everything seems completely normal. As Kulnarth passes the main Spawning Pools however there is a blood curdling scream that cuts through the air. The Slimes stop and look up for their work, but don't seem to mind much otherwise. Thief Slime seems to be on edge from it and is being extra sneaky.

Following the screams to their source reveals a strange scene. In the furthest portion of the Ruined Aqueduct the Demon Lieutenant is bent over and locked into a pillory! Demon Slime is standing behind her with her arm raised. She seems to have turned the arm into a large drill shape studded with crimson claws or teeth!

Kulnarth stares dumbfounded as Demon Slime lowers her drill arm and stares at him and Alchemist.

Alchemist for her part flips open her leather bound monster journal and consults it. She seems to have turned bright red. Not that anyone can tell anymore with her face hidden by that book.

"Ah, here it is! Demon Slime, recipe is one Slime core, one Demon Heart, two or more Human Souls. Proficient with Fire and Dark magic, excellent in Melee combat, super lewd- er... loud heh. Super Loud."

Loud? But you've never heard Demon Slime say anything ever. Aside from implications and glances you thought she didn't communicate at all.

"Oh uh that means- that... uh... their VICTIMS are super loud! Just heh, the loudest."

Oh that makes sense. But why is Demon Slime hurting your captive?

"That's just a Demon thing. It's sort of how they decide whose in charge. I'd uh say your Demon Slime is really dominant."

So the enemy demon will do anything you want?

Demon Slime nods her head in a self satisfied fashion before prodding the Demon Lieutenant with a spike arm.

"Ahhh! Y-yes Lord Kulnarth. I am yours to command, by Her will. P-please allow me to serve."

Her voice seems really shaken. No telling how long she will be conscious for.

Deciding to give the beleaguered Lieutenant a break you drag a silent, but evidently disappointed Demon Slime into Ash's room

You should teach her the Fire stuff.

"Kulnarth, you can't just barge in like that this is-"

Fire stuff. It might be useful for the big fight.

"Oh, uh alright... just, give me a second to put some clothes on."

She's wearing that soft white robe thing. Did she switch jobs to Healer?

"Ah, er, no. This is a bathrobe. I took a bath."

So it's not a new Job?

"I don't think so."

Well that's a shame. Thanks for training Demon Slime, bye.

>Demon Slime Learns Fire 2
>Ash learns to be wary of Demon Slimes.

Kulnarth leaves Ash alone with Demon Slime. Shutting the door behind him Kulnarth begins searching for Woolsworth. Why isn't he building something?

Oh, right. After a sufficient amount of ordering Slime 212 returns from the Machine Outpost with Woolsworth.

"You called sir?"

Yes Woolsworth, I want you to build that tower thing with the tech stuff.

"That would be the Communications Tower correct sir?"

Yeah, that one.

"Very well sir, I will begin at once. If I may borrow some of your Slimes?"

Huh, yeah sure.

Several hours later the gleaming spire of chrome towers in an out of place fashion above the Ruined Baths. A trio of bright blue crystals orbit the very tip of the tower and faint wavers of blue energy can be seen radiating in arcane patterns. Woolsworth seems pleased by his efforts and spouts a lot of nonsense about resonant stuff and hyper things.

All it means to you is that your ready to invade.
