New players are always welcome!

In this quest you assume the role of an aspiring student who is about to enter the Mageknight Academy. You must hone your skills, make some friends (and perhaps also some enemies) and fight battles in order to prove yourself worthy of graduating as a fully fledged Mageknight! Each year (every 100th turn) your character will be tested by the academy to see if your character is progressing well and meeting the Academy's high standards. After the 3rd year your character will head off into a their first mission for a final test.

How to Join:
New players must fill out their character sheets. The sheet must include the following information:
>Anyone can join at any time. Latecomers and laggers are given bonus action points to catch up with the other players.
1) Your character's full name
2) Your character's backstory, appearance and any other useful information.
3) You are given 3 Skill Points. Choose 1 starting spell and 2 other skills or spells.

How to Play:
1) Each turn you will be given 2 [Action Points]. Post your character sheet and your chosen actions along with a 2d100 roll.
>Normally your roll must pass the [Difficulty Challenge] of 25 in order to succeed.
>Getting a 10 and below is a [Critical Failure] while 91 and above is a [Critical Success]
2) All players must wait for the "TURN GO" post before submitting any actions posts. After which you must post your actions only to that post.
3) After all actions are processed and a new turn begins, update your character sheet.
>>
Acquiring and Improving Spells & Skills:
1) Study, research, explore, train or take classes to discover and learn new spells.
2) Training an already learned spell or skill will raise it further to the next tier once enough [Progress Points] are accumulated.
4) The progress threshold is based on the Fibonacci sequence (1,2,3,5,8,...)
>Usually Spell and Skill tiers are named as Basic => Intermediate => Advanced => Expert => Master
>Alternatively you can label the tiers as T1, T2, T3 and so on.

Spellcrafting:
Spellcrafting involves fusing spells with various skills, knowledge and even other spells that your character has learned together creating a new spell or skill.
>The name of the resulting new spell will be determined by the QM. By default it will be "Cast A B C..."
>Your dice roll will affect the result of the spellcrafting. Lower rolls will result in weaker or negative version of the intended spell and vice versa.

Social Interactions:
1) Role playing with other players is a free action. Role playing with NPCs, however, will cost an action point to do so.
2) Collaborative Player-to-Player actions like trading, tutoring and PvP, will cost an action point to do so.

Turning on the pump. You hear the churning of the pumps as the hightechmagic comes alive. You see the water clearing as the oil is extracted out of it. and Then You see the tentacles. Three long slimy limy plump tentacles shoot out of the water.

Feeling properly motivated to apply what he’s learned and to prepare for the dangerous journey into the Grimwoods, Nicholas focuses on putting to practice the subjects he had studied in theory. He practices projecting, shaping, and transmuting his mana in a number of new ways:

First, in order to protect himself better, he attempts forming a protective screen of mana around his body to help to insulate him from harmful external forces. He focuses his mind, and forms a transparent layer that separates him outside attacks, effectively serving as armor and magical insulation.

Having a nonlethal means to disable sentient creatures tainted by the ooze that preys upon its vulnerability to sonics seems like the best kind of spell to add to his arsenal before entering the Grimwoods again. So he next attempts to convert his mana into yet another form of energy, Sound! He pools mana into his limbs not unlike [Mana Buffing], but agitating it until it vibrates wildly, and projects it from his body in a manner not unlike his [Firebolt], causing a blast of violently compressing and expanding air to ideally result in an extremely loud blast of concussive arcane force meant to temporarily disorient, stifle, deafen, and/or knock back opponents.

He continues further honing the two spells and practices using them in conjunction, as well as playing around with the idea of combining the two theories to detonate his mana shield outward to expel foreign substances and/or dry himself off.

[===Madrid News===]
Breaking news for those watching the Grimwoods threat, several groups of Mageknight students have crossed the border seeking to route out the Corruption there. MagiTech vehicles were seen entering with senior students known for their combat readiness. A short time afterwards, a procession of the Madrid Marching Band and the Watch were observed entering as well. We will keep you up to date as this story unfollows.

>Members of the Watch that wish to be apart of the detachment sent to Grimwoods need only respond that they wish so.

And now returning to news stands after a very long time:
[==Madrid Enquirer==]
"Doors left Unopened"
Exorcist Bill Fletcher shares his amazing story of how his family was torn apart by demonic forces. And how that nightmarish experience prepared him for his current work. "It took nine police and EMTs to restrain her," he describes an early case.

"13 Monkeys"
Renowned professor, Dr Paul Bean, describes methods of detecting temporal disturbances through observations of local graviton waves. He comments, "Mathematical models that allow people to travel backwards in time have existed since the 1950s."

Of course, after accepting and moving in with your new dorm roomy, exploring the campus was something that was easily brought up in conversation. “Yesss~ I’d love too!” Stephanie ecstatically screaming as she hugs you. “It's been so long since we last spent some time together.. Let’s head out!” she says energetically. You head out and with your incomplete map of the school you look at the normal areas of the school. The first areas in the map which you already now are the dormitory and the clinic. The dormitory from Amsterdam doesn’t look it does belong but you can see people have been working to look like it fit after being transported here. The clinic is also some place you see often. Just being here for a week, you could tell what direction the more broken people walk from. The other buildings that you both know are the common buildings being the Gymnasium, League battle Arena, Main Class buildings, and the Library, where you’ve heard something of a stone goddess working as the librarian. You’re not sure about it but Stephanie somewhat bored of this areas just pushes you to look for the other buildings you don’t know of.

You continue to walk around and stephanie as you both look at the labelless map, Sometimes asking for directions and asking what this building is. The first area is the HEMA club training grounds. In this area, you see people walk in and out often, but I guess it isn't that surprising considering that it is MageKNIGHT after all. You both go in and start testing around, seeing some guys and people doing basic exercises. Majority are sparring and in the side weapons are laid that can be loaned for practice. As you check out the weapons and watch the others spar, the talk ends up with you and Stephanie rating some guys which then leads the conversation about how Harold is. “I haven't actually talked to him as much. I moved in with you and just go to class. I expect him to approach and meet me but maybe he busy. I’ll approach him soon.” With that note, you both arrive at another building. In this building, you find the Magitech club, ‘Platina’s workshop’, and the blacksmith area.

The Magitech club is an interesting place, so to speak. You spot a girl typing away at a laptop, a boy with a robot arm working on some machine you’ve never seen before, and a young man just sitting near what seems to be the coffee machine, enjoying a cup. In the closer areas, you see the blacksmith area where there is so much heat as people hammer away on weapons and ovens open. Just in the entrance, you see a plaque on the wall, “SMITHING REQUIRES TIME. FIRST COME, FIRST SERVE. ” You enter, with stephanie being hesitant with the fire everywhere but yet looking genuinely curious about the place. You see people around working in their own places and at one point, a guy after smithing looks up a small item in his hands and then looks to you. After spotting you, He walks toward you and puts it out, a shiny blackish blue pair of earrings. “For milady.” He says as he puts it in your hands. Stephanie just stands right beside you looking a bit shocked at the scene. You look up and the guy is pretty handsome, He has long rough white hair tied, with some strands still flowing down. He looks straight at you for a second which to you felt somewhat awkward. He stands right up. “May I know your name?” and being in quite a bit of shock, you instinctively answer and tell him you name. “Dania, you do look quite adorable? W-would you like to go on a date?” stuttering a little.

After hearing what has happened to Amsterdam, you figure that Eliza wouldn’t stay behind. A fallen kingdom is just like having no kingdom, after all. You begin your search at the Amsterdam dormitories. It looks like a new dorm quite similar in design to the normal ones. Once you get close however, you realize that it’s much larger than anticipated. It must be the spatial magic at work. You do a quick sweep, but can’t find her anywhere. After half an hour of searching, you get a text from an unknown sender. “Looking for me? Come find me at the Cafe de la Luz. -E” You wager that must be Eliza’s text, since she does have your number after all. You leave the school and start walking down the streets of Madrid.

The air is chilly and the streets seem more crowded than usual. You figure it must be some of the refugees from Amsterdam. After wading through the crowds of people and earth elementals, you find yourself in front of the Cafe de la Luz. You peer inside the window, but find no sign of Eliza. Did she tell you meet her here and not show up? That’s when you hear a voice behind you. “Lawrence, darling!’ You turn around to see Eliza, dressed warmly for the chilly weather. “I’m so glad to see you again!” She goes in for an embrace, and you’re surprised by her sudden shift in behavior. Eliza hugs you for a few moments, and she stands on her tip-toes as she leans in close. “I’m being tailed” she whispers in your ear. “You’re my boyfriend for the day. Play along.” You can’t help but blush as she takes you by the arm. She plays the role of a lovestruck girlfriend pretty convincingly.

You both step into the cafe, and she orders a private booth. After ordering some coffee and pastries, you both make small talk. You discuss about what happened in Amsterdam. Some time passes, and once you’ve had your food delivered, she begins to cast a spell. “Sealed Chamber.” The door to the booth slams shut, and the walls seem to glow with a faint white energy. “The room’s been soundproofed, and hidden from Divination magic.” Eliza explains to you. “Now then, what’ve you got for me?” Ah, here’s that personality showing again. You tell her about how you’ve been improving your skills, and your investigation into Martha. “Is that so? Not bad, you’ve been working hard. That’s to be expected of you, of course.” she tells you. You discuss your projects for a while before asking her what’s going on. Eliza looks around the room once more before speaking again.

“Someone’s got wind of me. They’re looking to take me out before I can get a foothold here.” She tells you. “Whenever I try scrying, I can’t get a good look at them. Whoever this is, they’re covering their tracks well.” Eliza sighs, displaying a rare moment for vulnerability. She looks a lot more… tired than usual, but you know she can’t show weakness. Not in public, at least. Perhaps she trusts you enough for you to know? Eliza then straightens herself, and looks to you. “I’m going to need you to look into them for me. I’d do it myself, but I need to feign ignorance.” She tells you. “Can’t let them realize it’s bait, after all.” You nod, motioning her to continue. “Now that they’ve seen us together, we’ll need to keep this up.” Her trademark smirk appears on her face. “Try not to enjoy this too much, alright?” She says smugly. “I need you to stay focused, but keep it discreet. If they find out that you’re helping me out, then we’re out of options.” Eliza states, much more serious this time. The door clicks, and her face shifts into the smiling facade you’ve grown accustomed to.

“Come on! You’ll show me around town, won’t you?” Eliza asks you. You finish your food and coffee, and show her around the city. It’s quite pleasant, walking around town with a girl, even if she claims it’s a cover. When the sun sets, you walk her back to her dorm. Eliza stands on her tip-toes and kisses you on the cheek. You’re left speechless as she walks away, that smug grin on her face the entire time. You don’t even notice the plain silver ring in your jacket pocket until after you arrive home.

You head out to an empty part of the training field and begin practicing. During the process, you find out that that while reaction time is an important quality in casting quickly, you also need to be able to have the dexterity and precision to perform the gestures necessary to cast the spell, as well as the concentration to be able to do so even under duress. You work on all three at the same time using the training room. Machines from all directions would fire Arcane Shots(non-lethal, of course) towards you, and you’d work to defend against them. You practice in this way for what feels like an eternity, and come out completely drained. You’re tired, but you’re certain that you can reliably cast this spell with speed and ease.

>[Raccoon: Hunted], A Genetically altered Raccoon is out for your bacon
Determined to increase your endurance, you go for another spirited jog. After about 30 minutes of exercise, it occurs to you that you’re the only student on this trail, but you shrug it off as mere coincidence. Roughly an hour later, you hear the familiar sound of chittering only moments before the teeth of a hidden bear trap snaps shut on your leg, drawing blood and reminding you of the pain that comes with living. “Oi, looks like our patience paid off then. Love it when our enemies stick to their routine. Makes it so much easier to catch ‘em off guard.” That’s when they descend upon you. A storm of bites and scratches assail you as you pry the trap from your leg. After a hard fight, you manage to push the raccoons back enough to make an opening. You escape, but not unscathed. This raccoon isn’t a problem you can afford to ignore anymore.

You ask around for a blacksmith, and some of the students direct you to Platina, a student who is apparently quite the prodigy in the field of blacksmithing. As it turns out, she’s taken multiple requests for commissions before, and yours should be no different. You meet her in her forge, and note that certain pieces of heavy machinery have replaced some of the traditional methods. The catgirl greets you, and beckons you inside. You talk about it for some time, and your request intrigues her. “A sword made from Lunite hidden in a Verbiden cane? I like it!” She smiles. “Give me some time to work on it, alright? I’ll call you if anything comes up.” You thank her and part ways.

After a few days, she sends you a message. The Canesword is ready. You head over to the forge, and she hands it to you. The cane’s head seems to be plated with silver or platinum, and it seems to be a depiction of some sort of owl that clutches onto an orb. The orb seems to emanate a feeling of power. The black Verbiden wood that comprises the shaft seems to be polished to a gleaming finish. When you channel your mana into the cane, you can feel the power flowing within. After an unsheathing, you look upon the blade. The metal that makes up the sword seems to be a pure white, and appears to glow faintly like distant moonlight. You brandish the blade, and find that it’s perfectly balanced. It looks like the decorative cane head was intentionally weighted to compensate for the Lunite’s relatively heavy weight. As it turns out, the rumors about Platina’s skill have some merit to them.

“Let me give you a demonstration.” The catgirl takes the staff and walks outside. You follow suit. She holds the cane up high, and the owl’s eyes seem to glow. A moment later, an ethereal owl seems to burst forth from the cane’s head. In the spirit’s talons is that same orb. Upon closer inspection, you realize that the orb was actually a depiction of the moon. The owl flies into the air, the moon gradually growing in size. It stops at a certain height, and you watch as the area slowly becomes darker. Was it always this cold? However, when you look at the sun, you can still easily see that it's still there. Platina explains upon seeing your confusion. “Lunite has an innate connection to the moon. It was no big surprise when I found out that it could do that.” She comments. After some time, the moon begins to disappear, turning into motes of moonlight that mingle with the sun’s rays before disappearing for good.

“That was a fun project.” Platina says to you. “Come back when you’ve got some more interesting things for me to make.” You leave the forge after thanking her, resting upon your new canesword the whole walk home.

Today’s lesson explores the many ways that the effects of various runes interact when combined. You’re given a small runic chalkboard that rapidly shifts its appearance when runes are written upon it. You first test it by scrawling a simple Fire Rune to find that it becomes wreathed in warm, but harmless flames. As the lesson progresses, you scrawl combinations of increasingly complex and advanced runes to explore the different ways the board reacts, learning a great deal.

[== Chapter One: An Unexpected Party ==]

Backwards and forwards, you find yourself back in the smoky Equipment Shed. It seems like a party is in full swing with many of the girls dancing like they've got no care in the world. You also spy a cute guy getting bullied underneath some of the more agressive girls. His silent eyes plead to you. But you have other matters to take care of. You approach Casey on the gym mats and sit next to her explaining the proposal to push back the Taint. Several of the other girls are interested in the conversation and listen in. After you've explain the great adventure and battle supposedly to take place, she refuses, "We fight for ourselves, not for the Academy. That's for the nerds at the Watch, or for the Stick-up-their-a** Student Council." She doesn't budge, even as many of the other girls seem excited about the idea.

Moving on from the Equipment Shed, you approach The Watch's on campus office. Most activity in swallowed in ruckus of shifting paper and tens of typing fingers. This cold and bureaucratic atmosphere steals the warm air from your lungs. You're better sure that's the A/C and not a necromantic ritual stealing your vitality to extend the lifespan of these office rats… better sure. In anycase, you are handed a stack of paper to fill out. The ER-A Escort Request Form-A, only takes about 20 minutes to fill out. The ER-B however takes much longer. After replacing your pen for the second time, all the white paper is now full of your scribblings. And the man that steps out of a side office is immediately shoved in your direction. You just as quickly remember this man as that refused to take you along the Cardboard Monster Hunt. His gaze alternates between the papers and yourself and sighs. As for Mr Dawson, you learn that he was relieved from the Watch for health reasons. He may have contracted something from a Grimwood creature. You are however given his contact information should you wish to follow up.

Arrangements are made to begin the march into Grimwoods after the first light with the combined forces of the [American Hunter Cell] attached to the Watch and the [Madrid Marching Band]. A good size if unconventional army. You try to settle into sleep. But it eludes you. Tossing and turning you don't feel completely confident on the success of your march. It's not until you wake up in a cold sweat that you realize the stress nightmare you've brought on yourself. Looking over your bed, you notice the pale blue light of your phone indicating a message. From Casey, "We'll be there." Short, to the point, it seems as if she's coming along. You give a brief cheer that turns into yawn that causes you black-out into a restful sleep.

>Back Up Suzy in the Grimwoods Quest

The bags under your eyes could tell a story if you were a Bard. You're still a young man, you could develop your talents into that career path. At the moment, your fashioning a rivet back into some plumbing at the instruction of your assumed Mentor Carlos. You've been ildy talking about a number of things, from the local sports teams to the Grimwood situation. You give the impression that your friend has your support in this craziness. And that you've work on this project since the beginning when you discovered the weakness of the Taint. Carlos for his part listens to your interpretation of the Taint and your theories about its impact on the Arcane Infrastructure at large. He actually laughs when the both of your plan to push back against the ichor. Seeing your very serious face from underneath the plumbing for the Rec Room Shower, he quickly excuses himself.

"Look, if you wish to become a Hero, go for it son. Just do me a favor and come back in one piece. I haven't gotten this much work done since they cut the school's maintenance funding. And just for you," Carlos hands you a stopwatch. "That's to make sure you do come back. That magical time piece was given to me after a bet. Complexicated Arcane stuff, that I'm entrusting you with. I expect it right back. Now when you press this button, the world will stop and let you have about five seconds to yourself to figure things out. The world will look like it's on slow in a video playback. I've used it to make myself look business after almost getting caught slacking. You've got one use of this thing. I'll know if you use it more than that." After that interesting exchange and receipt of the gift, you're given most of the day to yourself to practice and refine your methods of shielding and blasting.

The night passes without too much tossing and turning. The morning comes with a scrambled egg omelette, and the LOUD music of the Madrid Marching Band broadcasting throughout the campus. You quickly grab your stuff including your notebook filled with your shielding and blasting methods, and rush to greet the others of your loud party. The Band is uniformed in the Academy's Blue, White, and Gold colors. Mixed within the crowd are tough looking girls wearing ripped up denim jackets swinging YoYos, as well as stern gentleman ready to hunt some monsters.

[== Chapter Three: The Passing of the Grey Company ==]

It's a solemn march for those given to that mood. The Band Auxiliaries march behind the season veterans of the Watch and the Hunters while the Cuerda Sukeban simply mingle within the different crowds. A nervous tension hangs in the air that threatens to crash down on the march's head. The Sun hangs high on this clear day much to your enjoyment. However clouds and storms race across the horizon and the weather is waxes and wanes between fair and foul. For a good ten minutes cloud overcasts the path of your march.

A slight drizzle coats your shoulders and many of the instruments of the band. Your goal is the Grimwoods Outpost. Only a few days ago, they were regularly reporting back to the Academy the conditions and status of the woods. However you have reason to believe that a few hours ago, they were struck. Before you left the campus around group of Mageknights rolled out towards this Outpost. They seemed to have had a plan. You wonder if they'll be there to greet you or not. You break through the trees much the same time that the clouds overhead dissipate. And the scene before you is horrible to behold.

There stands an army of [Corrupted Deertaur] shrieking and charging at the Outpost's defenses. Some of these creatures are too horrible to behold or even to describe using the inept English language. The [Outpost Defenders] presumably safe behind their wards and walls harry the charging creatures under a barrage of missile fire, rifles and enchanted longbows in their hands. From the other treeline you can hear the shrieks and cries of a dozen smaller skirmishes presumably present to distract or belay the creature's reinforcements. Unknown to you, but [The Fey] are doing work.
>>
>>1489873
Of your own forces, [The Hunters] ready their crossbows and set aside their long pikes in preparation to engage these horrors at some distance. The brass section of your own forces raises their shining metal to their lips while the drumline raises their arms and sticks to begin a sick beat. The [Madrid Marching Band] is just as ready to follow your orders. And lastly sprinkled out between the two are the [Cuerda Sukeban] brandishing their own Yoyos in their stringed together sisterhood. Each girl seemingly acting in accordance to their shared sympathetic connection. It becomes painfully obvious with eyes to see the "bonds of camaraderie" formed between them.

Character Backstory; Standing at five foot four inches Adal has russet hair with dark green brown eyes usually seen wearing a poncho like cloak that has the insignia of his house on the back with a smaller version of it on his breast pocket. Hails from a family that deals with large herds of cattle and horse flesh. Most of the family fortune actually comes from owning some of the more famous race tracks and sending their jockies to other race tracks for the prestige. When magic was revealed in Adal's bloodline the young lad found it while riding when he was accosted by a troll in the woods on the family lands deep in the woods. The magic allowed Adal to survive the attempt on his life, of course the kid is seen as shut in living vicariously through fantasy novels such as Tolkein and other tales.

Its time to don the [Cuerda Sukeban Jacket] and join the girls.
"Ok Girls. I anit telling yah what to do, but here's the situation: The Marching band is a bunch of nerds, but they're also our artillery. The Hunters, are our spear head. But We're the cavalry. No one can move like we do.

Hunters lead the frontal assault. The marching band moves behind them. And we're going to flank the band. The band will fire at will so to speak. If they come at us from behind it is critical that we move back and intercept. Otherwise we're supporting the Spearhead

Worst case scenario. those antlers are grilling our Nerds. Distracting them from the archers. The archers start picking us off while we have no retaliation. The Hunters are left strained and assaulted on all sides. Left man standing style. If the worst comes, we drag the nerds kicking and screaming into the fenced outpost. "

Current Status of the Grimwoods Outpost
>Advantage: Outpost Defenders +35
>Defenders: 7 + 35 = 42 vs 86 (Deertaur)

Outside the Walls of the Outpost, the horrid creatures corrupted and tainted for some alien reason and logic batter against the stone walls erected in its defense, climbing atop themselves and their own ladders. The obfuscating wards likewise could not confuse the bulk of the raiders nor could the earthen pitfall traps keep the horrid creatures from closing the cap. Defenders atop the walls push off the ladders and raiders where they can, firing away their rifles and longbows. However as many as they drop to the ground below, three more spring up behind them. Atop the walls the shrieks and howls are amplified, and with lances ripped from the tainted branches they rip into the Defenders breaking through their reinforced armor by virtue of their brutal tainted blood augmented their already incredible strength. Despite the preparation, the Outpost is gradually being overwhelmed.

Long Range Skirmish between the [Corrupted Deertaur] and the [Madrid Marching Band]
>Advantage: Corrupted Deertaur +15
>Deertaur: 3 + 15 = 18 vs 23 (Madrid Marching Band)

Seeing the carnage being displayed before them, the Mageknight students of the Marching Band falters. Their well practiced and drilled military music does not completely cover the distance. The loud boisterous percussion and the brass trumpets come out disjointed, somewhat drowned out by the howls of the Deertaur as well as the gasps of the Marching Band themselves. In a desperate bid you, Nicholas Penn, begin belting out, louder and louder, that you are a ALL STAR. Busting into a song and dance, all that glitters may not be gold. But at this moment you project the confidence in your place in the universe and on this battlefield. Planting yourself in their ranks, you replace their faltering resolve with a mad energy. They ditch the military music and begin to play into your own Song. Due to your understanding of sonic theory you start directing their wild energies towards the terrible spectacle.

Initial Clash between the [Corrupted Deertaur] and the [Hunters of the Watch]
>Advantage: Corrupted Deertaur +5
>Deertaur: 10 + 5 = 15 vs 44 (Hunters of the Watch)

Atop of the walls, the first Deertaur drops their twisted branch and grabs their head. Steady streams of viel and disgusting fluids pour out of their mouth, nose, and eyes. The ground is stained in the Defenders blood and the Deertaurs corruption. A nauseating breeze picks up that scent and wafts over the Frontline Hunters of the Watch. Ever the professionals they wrap their faces up in scarfs appearing like bandits from some far off and wild frontier. A division of the Deertaur separate from the bulk of the raiders, finally taking stock of your forces. Belting challenges against these stern figures they lower their heads and bar their goring antlers ready to charge.

The Hunters pick up their pikes and sure them against the ground, forming a defensible pike wall. For several moments, the air seems to empty itself from all sound. The focus of the men is razor sharp, simply waiting for the first clash. When it comes, it comes much too quickly for anyone to definitive determine.

In an instant, the backline fires their crossbows landing into the charging hides. And yet from the Deertuar themselves, they hurl small grubs, still covered in embryonic fluid, which land besides the crossbow men and latch ontop them. A new cry reaches the men, "OH GODS, THEIR BITTY TEETH." Those Deertaur that charge are impaled against the pikemen spears. The fierce melee begins. Blood, Taint, and bodies fall to the ground. The two sides collide, neither falling. The influence of the Marching Band and their ALL STAR, Nicholas, beings to erode the Corrupted Deertaur's backlines, ever so slightly, ever so much. A end to the conflict seems to be in sight. The winning Strategy is about to bear fruit. Until you hear an awful, terrible, HORRIBLE Roar explode behind you.

Reinforcements from the Forest
>Advantage: Corrupted Deertaur +10
>Deertaur: 99 + 10 = 109 vs 70 (The Fey)

From behind you, breaking through a dozen trap vines, comes a Terror, a Monster, an abomination to earthly biological understanding. It stands ten meters tall, this amalgamation of different creatures. It's many heads, and many antlers turn in the direction of your exposed backlines where the Marching Band stands safely away from the melee but directly in the creature's charging path. It stomps its hooves on the ground sending shock waves throughout the combatants. It gives another mighty deafening roar opening its maw and revealing the hundreds of diseased and serrated teeth fitting better in a prehistoric Lizard King than any other.

Reinforcements from the [Cuerda Sukeban]
>Advantage: None
>Deertaur: 31 vs 91 (Cuerda Sukeban)

The Girl Gang, Cuerda Sukeban, shrieks and screams back in their own battle cry and charges the Monster threatening their backlines. Some brandish swords stolen from real Mageknights armories, Some bring to bear their Yoyos, All run together as one. Their footfalls seemingly directed by an unseen hand. The first group of girls throw their Yoyos wrapping around the Monster's arms, digging their heels in and fruitlessly pulling it back. For their efforts they are cast aside and thrown across the battlefield crashing into the Marching Bands lines. Disaster or Victory, the success of the this adventure hangs on a razor's edge. The music is still pumping and eroding the Corrupted Deertaur away from the fight. And yet, this Monster threatens to crash against their lines. The Cuerda Skueban are distracting the Monster as best as they can, but who knows if it'll be enough… Time?

You, Suzanna Yossarian, are thrown into the air after another failed attempt to bring the creature down. You crash into Nicholas who is for some reason holding a stopwatch. And in an instant the world stands still allowing you some breathing round. And a moment to think of how to tackle this Monster attempting to steal your Victory.

Combat Logs: https://pastebin.com/s0828UP7

The Angels have blessed these two combatants. Even as the Yoyo flies through the air, the skies open up to bring divine light upon the two, purifying the lands. As Far Away another Terrible Monster is rip to shreds by Gunfire and Blades. It's Roars are matched and answered by the Rapidly deteriorating Patchwork DeerTaur Monster. It slumps to the ground with Nicholas still atop it. A Deertuar Cowboy in his own right. You have won the combat. You have won the Battle of Five Armies. The Marching Band celebrates your victory with a loud crashing of cymbals. Hey Now, you're an All Star.

Having destroyed the source of corruption you, Ean, Angelica, Devin, Agata Caiden, return to the Grimwoods Outpost. The scene is a stark contrast from the one you left. You can see clearly the carnage of battle, the string of bodies from the middle of the conflict all the way to the carefully constructed defensive barriers you placed and even inside the fortifications. Bodies with bulging muscles twisted by the taint, some with blood still staining their antlers can be found well within the Outpost walls. And you already see the fallen soldiers wrapped up in linen to be transported back home. In the rapidly approaching dusk, Colonel Aldana receives you and offers a SitRep.

He briefs you on the battle, how despite theirs and yours best efforts the charging enemy force breached the walls. However just before they would rush the compound inside a third force interceded. The Colonel waves over to another gentleman that greets you with an American Accent, calling himself a Hunter, or his name is Hunter, doesn't much matter. Apparently this third force blasted over the battlefield with marching band music that somehow disabled the Deertaur. However it was done, the Defenders were able to rally and rebuff the raiders when apart of their force pulled away. From then on, it was a intense melee between Hunter's men and the Deertaur.
>>
>>1498177
Angelica, you are taken aside by the Fey Officer you left in charge while you journeyed deeper into the woods. The Fey Officer gives you much the same information as the Colonel, however he offers details that the Colonel either doesn't or isn't giving out freely. From the Fey's perspective, they were able to stem the tide of Deertaur entering the battle with various guerrilla tactics as well as spy the third force's approach. They say it was literally a Marching Band wearing the Gold, Blue, and White of the Madrid Academy. They were also lead by two MageKnight students, First Years if you believe it. One wielding a YoYo, the other a Wrench. Names, Suzy and Nicholas.

Just about the moment that the SitRep is wrapping up, a hollow and echoing horn is heard coming from just outside the Outpost. An old and elderly Deertaur, the wrinkles very pronounced on his face, is flanked on one side by a younger warrior. They bare no weapons and don't have the threat of violence in their eyes. The younger Deertaur lowers a dead hooded figure as well as a sack that clatters on the ground. "This the body of the false prophet. He lead us to drink the dark waters when our anger flared. This was mistake. The differences between our peoples I hope can be mended. Since we started this fight, and you ended this fight. It is apart of our tradition you be offered tribute and our penance." From behind the Elder Deertaur comes a cart full of different, what you can assume valuable and possibly sacred treasures.

You, Nicholas and Suzy, have a very different conversation. In the Barracks that you have been confided in, you've past some time idly celebrating the fact that you aren't dead. However you expect the Colonel to fix that little discrepancy. The look on Colonel Aldana when he discovered you were just First Years was a mix of shock, confusion, anger, and gratitude. Not knowing exactly what to do, he threw you both in here as he made arrangements to send the Marching Band back to the Academy. Listing off the punishments you could be given, lashing is high up there, as well as expulsion, suspension. It may matter little to you at the moment, since the entire gathering you lead into battle, mostly lived and saw your heroic stand against the Monstrous Deertaur-Rex. Casey slipped a bottle of wine from the officer's quarters before being sent back with the others.

Dusk gives way to Night. Night gives way to Morning. And soon enough, you are all transported back to the Academy. Free to study, go to class, or possibly go back into Grimwoods. But as Ean Hawthorne, Angelica Shanyyria, Devin Hines, Agata Stoneworth, Nicholas Penn, Suzanna Yossarian, and Caiden Matthews. All Mageknights of the Highest Caliber. Let today always be a reminder of your Bravery, Virtues, and Talent. Stories of Heros can never really get too old. These larger than life figures inspire us all and shape our cultural awareness. In the Epilogue of the Battle for Grimwoods, the names of some Heros and their Deeds will become common talk among the Student Body. Yoyos full of Divine Light. After suiting up, you begin your investigation. You loiter around the area, not too far from Eliza. People move in and out of the area, making it hard to discern who’s actively looking for her. Regardless, you keep searching, doing your best not to look suspicious yourself. You make some small talk with the other students when you spot someone eyeing her from the distance.

You move around, making sure that the man doesn’t see you. He moves around the corner, and you make to pursue. By the time you get close, however, there’s no man here. There’s only a puddle of mud and… a paper tag? You pick it up, but don’t recognize the symbols written on it. They don’t look like any runes you’ve ever seen before. You’ll definitely have to do some research into this thing.

You search for Julie, but can’t seem to find her. You check everywhere from the dorms to the library, and find no trace of her anywhere. You check the schedules, and find out there’s still a couple buses being escorted out of Amsterdam that are heading to Madrid. Perhaps she didn’t take the teleportation circle home and decided to take the bus? Strange, but you suppose she has her reasons.

Do: Go to the library and learn about stealth.

As you make your way to the library, you’re buzzed by a man in the bushes “This goes to hall 2A column H and row 56. Money is in the book” Flipping over the book you read ‘Smuggling and You’ and realize the man is asking you to smuggle the book into the library “It’s my third strike if the catch me with this outside the library” Taking a chance you take out the instructions and the money and put it in your pocket. You stuff the book into your bag while running a magnet over the bindings.

Entering the library. You walk between the security posts that would be beeping if someone tried to walk out without checking a book out. You wave nonchalantly to the stone librarian who has her elbows on the desk, her chin in her hands. Her eyes are somewhat dreamy as she waves back not a care in the world it seems. You walk past her, past a few students studying and a janitor in a red cap, into the stacks. It takes you a minute to find the right shelf, but you are successful.

You realize as much as stealth is about staying out of sight, it’s also about not drawing attention to yourself.

You approach Mercy with some apples for her. You stroke her mane and spend some time with her. She’s calm as always and you start to wonder if she’s actually a polymorphed person instead of a horse. But you quickly dismiss that thought and focus on riding her. You gently explain her that you are going to saddle her, and your intentions. She stays calm as you saddle her. If you know what’s good for her, you won’t tell anyone, and will come alone. If you don’t… Well let’s say she won’t enjoy it. The practical applications were a littler harder to parse out of the Cure light wounds of the magical world but scientific doctors did do it. Nicholas Penn

Rather pleased with himself, Nicholas goes straightaway to meet with his Mentor, Carlos, to thank him for his help, return the watch, and assist him with his work, all while giving him an extremely thorough account of the recent events that have taken place, including showing him the [D-Rex Antlers] and his fancy new medal. Nicholas is very excited. Nicholas also asks for his opinion on using Alchemy/Transmutation to extract and/or replicate the supposed ‘Vigor/Vitality' enhancing qualities. Also, take advantage of [Mana Buffing] and [Enchant Tool] to make the job easier.

Later, he opts to ask Danielle out for a lovely picnic, because hey, the life of a Hero can be a short lived one. He also opts to join every non-evil club, and looks into ways to improve his wrench. He really hasn’t been socializing with enough people.

There I was in my leather smock and helmet sweating from head to toe. He must have noticed my pheromones rising and mixing in the molten lead. I decided to taunt and tease him. He would never get close enough to the forge, well that's what I thought anyways. No sooner was I jetting my butt out, than I felt a strong hand grip it. “I’m ah I’m holding a thousand degree rod in my hands, Hernandez, what’s stopping me from using it as a swatting rod?”
“Because you’re much less interested in a metal rod and more interested in the flesh inspiring it” I don’t know whether I over heated from the fire or the raw unadulterate want of the older man behind me. I felt myself let go of the rod into the fire ruining it but I didn’t care. I felt him pull off my helmet releasing my hair in its tight white bun. You go and do some research into the spell tag. Apparently, these sigils are quite like runes, if they were in a different language or notation. In fact, it’s written in Sanskrit. Upon further investigation, you find out that this particular combination of runes induces a state of ‘animation’. When combined on something like paper, people could probably animate cheap golems and homunculi relatively easily. Perhaps that’s why you found it in the mud.

With this information in mind, you realize that the next step would probably be to find users who use Sanskrit in Runecrafting. Shouldn’t be too difficult, as there’s not many people who use Sanskrit anymore, due to its difficulty for writing notations. However, there’s no real way to identify the stalker, but it’s a start.

Once again, you go and take the bottle and talk with the girls. As usual the girls give each other looks at first but after asking how they’ve been they take turns and talk on what’s been going on. Isabel starts and talks about how she’s advancing her magic and scope of her spells. She’s also met a few people and tells you there’s nothing to be jealous about hugging you. Tenia then thanks you, things are calming down because of the deertaur business. She does say something about her family having problems and she might head back for awhile but it's nothing to worry about, telling you in a cutesy way. They continue talking, sometimes getting competitive with their awards and studies but they calm down by you or some pointless argument that turns into them finding a similarity in each other. As usual, Isabel falls asleep and soon Tenia does too. You all lay on the bed and soon the sun rises.

You’re the first wake up and after getting out of bed, you start cleaning up. The bottle of Château El Toro Blanco is almost finished, maybe about 2 more drinks like this. After that you take the girls’ bags and a note falls off. You were about to put it back in but as the note unfolds, you see that it's a death threat. The handwriting is thick and sturdy. It talks about how Isabel has screwed up big time and she has to pay the price. It demands they meet up with them on the weekend. As you hear someone stand, you instinctively put the note back in the bag and pretend to clean. You wonder what that note was about but from how it was written it looks like serious business.

They are like deer in a sense. They are at first skittish and furtive in your presence. The does hold their kids close to themselves within their own tents and even in the wooden log meeting halls. At all times you feel their curious eyes, the young ones. The Elder of this village however does not bulk at your presence and in fact greets you with the best facade of a smile he can with his snout. You ask him not to strain himself too overly much just for civility. You are escorted into the loghouse where a small fire is already burning at this time of night.

To understand the Deertaur and their magic, you must first understand their Myths and Legends. At first it's a bit confusing for you. Years in a traditional education system hasn't prepared you to understand their oral culture. To them at least, their history stretches back winters and winters. Whenever one Deertaur greets another for the first time, they often ask, "How many Winters?" In this way they can measure seniority. Winters are harsh so surviving many of them is something to be respected. Seeing as you have some questions about the [Cosmic Seedling] given to you as a peace offering, he starts explaining their Dawn Era. The time of the world when the Sun first rose.

In the beginning there was nothing but night. Above the great branches provided the floor to the heavens. And far below there was nothing but roots that tangled themselves in utter chaotic patterns. From the Heavens can the Great Spirit. The Great Spirit goes by many names, and some say that she still walks this world, however this Elder doesn't elaborate on these points. Only that other Elders and beings of the Grimwoods have their own stories of the Great Spirit. She came down from the Heavens imbued with power and magic and created the earth so that she may rest on her feet in this new world. Because she wanted the day she enjoyed in the Heavens, she separated the Branches so that the Sun would shine through.

The Great Spirit proceeded from there to take the creatures of the previously dark world and gift them small spirits of their own. She had the power to bring the smaller spirits of the Heavens to this world. These spirits settled into their new bodies and opened their eyes. At first they were afraid not knowing this new world. But the Great Spirit calmed them and made a promise that she would do everything she could to make this new world their new home. The [Cosmic Seedling] you have is said to house a resting spirit from the Heavens yet to open its eyes.

The Great Spirit is said to have awaken all aware beast folk as such. Including the Raccoon tribes across the riverway. The Elder notes that the Raccoon Men are some of the Deertaur's closest allies. With them, they benefit from their expansive trade network throughout their woods. And the raccoons receive help plowing their fields during harvest time.

The first thing to do is to check if there even is a non-evil club and after some inquiry in the office, there isn’t really a specific club for non-evi per se but you find some clubs that look related. Most of the clubs in the list are more combat related and finding a club that actually is non-evil was difficult. There were some that did meant something of a non-evil club. The office then gives you sign-up forms for some of the clubs. After looking at the list, the best you could find are the ‘Holy Order of the Cross for students’ club, ‘Mages for the ethical treatment of elementals’ club, and ‘Magical Law student clubs’.

There were also some eccentric clubs for magitech, magic photography, poetry, sports, and some club called ‘Draconians Anonymous for Hoarding Problems.’. The office staff then tells you that if you can’t find anything, making club is also an option.

You come across the MagiTech club what seems to be the day after a rave. The floor is cleaned up well enough. But you can still see streamers hanging off the Workshop's shelves. You offer your assistance and set to work taking down signs of the party. To your experienced eyes, these folks have no idea what they are in possession of. You see the finest instruments of measurements both mundane and arcane. These Industrial Mana Ammeters are well maintained and expensive to boot. That's when you realize, that's not actually a thing anybody makes. Some if not most of these instruments seem to be built in house. You may not know it, but the Fortification and Materialization magics used in their manufacture is the work of a Master.

While ripping down the blue and white streamers and stuffing them into trash bags, a club member wanders by and thanks you, saying "Thanks for the Hand, man." You're sure that was some kind of joke or pun since the guy seems to be grinning from ear to ear. You ask ask him offhandedly how these tools are so well maintained and if your own tools could be so improved. The club member, you later learn is named William, tell you the president keep her tools and workshop well stocked thanks to her own Reinforcement techniques. If you were apart of the club, you could gain access to the workshop to work on your own projects. To end the conversation, he offers his hand to shake. When you do, his hand to cold and firm, at which you realize it's a prosthetic. You can tell he's still internally pleased with his pun from earlier.

You know you can fix it. Whatever it is, you can fix it. A damnable meme chases your thoughts like a merry-go-round. You're very very sure that you left your tools in your backpack, but inside your backpack are your gym clothes. And just why do you even need to fix something? Maybe the Del Sol? These random thoughts keep intruding into your head as you continue to shake them out. You also have a craving for mushrooms. After checking yourself out at the clinic and being given a clean bill of health, the thoughts seem to disappear. A fey mood if there ever was one, but thankfully brief.

You idly chat with Danielle after practicing your track and field. You seem to do fine sprinting down the track, however the hurdles trip you up as Danielle races towards the finish. Listening your wild tales, she seems completely engrossed. Danielle admits to knowing very little of the Student Council Secretary. She blushes a bit, an errant emotion caught in her blonde head that she doesn't immediately share with you. Holding her hands out she affirms that she wasn't thinking about the Secretary, dreamy blue eyes or not. She does ask you to repeat the story about the Monster you and Nick fought again. Twice actually.

You don't remember much about the algorithms or the formula that you wrote up and devised with a short haired girl wrapped up in raver colors. Between bumping and grinding to the beats of techno and the complex impromptu whiteboard markers, there's just one long blur of kaleidoscopic colors. You could blame the loud music, you could blame the strong alcohol. In anycase as you entered the MagiTech club to ask for help developing the [Adalbert Del Sol], you found yourself in the middle of a celebration and not many willing to distract themselves from their revelry to offer you assistance. At the most, you were able to snap a picture of a whiteboard in somebody else's selfie afterwards on the popular social media site. You are offered an invitation to join the club. They might be more open to helping you after the hangover wears off.

While attempting to exit the roaring party you trip over yourself reaching for the door. You land on an awkward angle on your backpack and hear a sickening crunch. Looking inside, you see the [Sol Lens] broken and it's sensitive materials spilled all over your textbooks. Everything looks ruined, in fact everything looks like it's been left in the desert sun for over twenty years. Every page is blasted white and rendered useless. Pens are completely dried out and worthless, having their ink evaporated and coating the inside of the backpack. Even the fabric of the pack seems stiffen and harden due to overexposure. If you were to guess, the residual Solar Mana reverted back to its natural state after the [Sol Lens] broke.

"I can't stay long I'm under probation and I don't to get yall in trouble. But thanks, I don't know what changed your mind, but you really saved our butts back there"

In a cruddy sloppy basement apartment that sits behind the Daze and Blaze, papers plastic and glass bottles litter a bedroom. From an upstairs couch a middle aged man shouts "Beer stands in the kitchen"
"Ya ya" comes the response of a still unconvinced sophomore. She's carrying a stack of technical manuals as she navigates the basement steps. Her uniform is clean even if it is marked together in button pins and quick patch jobs. How it stays in regulation is anyone's guess.

She sets the manuals down on the dresser next to the sewing machine. She pulls the uniform off over her head and hunts for a Tshirt. There are twenty different dirty shirts over the floor and even some in the clothes hamper. The uniform is shot into the hamper for laundry. In the Dresser she fishes out a her Tshirt from Berlin. She hesitates in her bra. It's from her old school. The one that kicked her out. And next to it her only only clean uniform for the week. "Tough cakes" she says pulling the Berlin shirt over her head "Aint nothing but tough cakes" The spite in her mouth is battery acid, as she thinks back to Helena and Mark the two students she assaulted

Mark was a Bully and Helena was a fool

Casey never thought of herself as a bad kid growing up. Prankster yes, Mischievous oh you betcha. but never outright malicious. Mixing up people's shoes, tping the bathroom, dirty puns, general mischief. There was that one time she and Helena stole the teacher’s answer key. Casey chuckles “Tough Cakes” as she remember that moment of fear and what the heck do we do now look on their faces. And then her sadness and bitterness returns. Tough Cakes that was their word.

“CASEY! One of yours is here to see you!” The Middle aged man yells
“YaYa Uncle”
Suzy walks down into the basement in a more conservative dress "Right it's Suzy"
"I can't stay long I'm under probation and I don't want to get you in trouble.
"You can stay it's fine. I'm always in trouble"
"OH ok and thanks, I don't know what changed your mind, but you really saved our butts back there"
"Well YOU got everyone excited and it's not like I'm letting any one of my girls get themselves kill or anything"
"I wasn't suicidal I got the watch to pony up"
"Yeah but they don't have your Back. You waged a war for them and they slap you with probation. What kind of loyalty is that?"
"Right"
There are a few moments of pause until as the two girls look at each other almost like a couple trying to figure out why they’re still together
"You want to shoot cans with our yoyos?"
"Yesletsdothat" Casey says a bit quicker losing her cool demeanor "I mean yeah sure You were getting a bit sloppy with that Deer monster."

Casey and Suzy shoot cans off a fence for a bit until Casey is called to make dinner. Suzy is offered a simple dinner. and it's pleasant enough. You broach the topic of why Casey started the gang “Reasons.”
“And why do you make sure they know how to wield YoYos?”
“Self defence. The world’s gotten a more dangerous.”

After some roaming and walking in the wild, You find a nice area, which is a 20 minute walk from the rims of the land. The hill was easy to spot and is high enough to see over the trees in the distance. When walking around the area and you notice that on top of the hill there isn’t much grass and more of compact soil on top. The area below has pretty soft soil with growing grass all around. Looking from the top of the hill, you note that the trees are about 15-30 feet away from each other scattered across the land. Some look to bear fruit too! And more thicker forest can be seen much further ahead. With that note, you mark this spot.

You think she waves you over honestly it's hard to tell as her hand raises very little. “Hey” You try to have a conversation but the music's too loud at the moment. “One sec” She takes her ear muffs off and set the music to a softer slower song. “Hmmm. … ” You offer your hand and head nod towards the open center area, being used as an impromptu dance floor. “Dance. ok.”

You really drove it. I’ve never driven anything that wasn’t a simulation” She puts her hand in the indentation of the mighty first strike. And gapes “that must have been really frightening. I mean I know battle is battle. But” she janks her hand out of the indentation, and puts it on your shoulder for balance, about where your arm and metal adjustments meet. “Like a father like son I guess” she gives a weak laugh. She lowers her eyes and pushes her head into your shoulder hooking her arms underneath yours. “You’re a real survivor. Caiden” You tell her about the UI and Curiosity. “I didn’t do anything but the flatware, the platform” Her head rolls a bit. “But it worked”

You realize you are coming to the end of the Novel. there is still a bit left but decide to put it down for the moment. You pinch your eyes and yawn. The next time you pick up the book. you note something odd. Sigils have appeared at the corners of the pages. now that you think about they've always been there it seems. you just haven't bothered to notice. You bookmark the [Arsonist] and go back over the previous passages. And indeed the sigils were always there.

You note that the sigils seem to point to fire heat flames and even explosion abilities. Nothing concrete but certainly a start. You look towards the candles and fireplace, which have always been lit when you've been studying The Arsonist. Because why wouldn't you? You need light to read and Fire is light. Bulbs are stupid, impersonal, and impractical. Picking up a pen and paper you sketch the sigils

Name: Markus Milton
From: USA
https://sites.google.com/view/mkam/character-sheets/markus-milton

>turn: 124
>DO (Something else): Markus took a quick assessment of the downed knight and considered his options. As bad as he wanted to get to Remi, he was a medic and he wasn't just going to pass someone up. However, he was military medic, his job was to get soldiers back on their feet and working in hostile conditions as swiftly and efficiently as possible so he wasn't dooming three soldiers while he worked on one. Plus it didn't help that his patient was a delicate looking white haired boy. Swooping in he knelt down next to the knight and pulled out one of his blood replenishing vials.

"Looks like you're having a time of it Sir Knight. I am Medic Milton, relax and I'll get you back on your feet." He spoke to the other boy as he assembled the injection. If the dehydration wasn't an issue he'd have had the knight just drink the solution, but as he was a direct injection was the better course. "Okay, you'll feel a slight pinch." He placed his hand on the boy's head as he spoke after he had found the vein he was looking for. "One, two, three." On three he slipped the needle in and injected. [Used Blood Replenishment Potion: (Reduce Injury affliction by 2 turns no roll needed)]

>DO: He quickly moved the needle away from the knight and placed his hand on the area were the injection happened and applied his magic. The potion would take care of the worst of the aliments, the follow up treatment was to sooth any other discomforts like aches and the likely parched throat. "There you are Sir Hines. Can you stand for me?" He held out his hand to help his patient to his feet. [Cast: Refresh (Cantrip that removes minor damage and aches, requires no roll but cannot be cast more than once a turn.)]

1 double turn remaining

Do: Train Pandora Production.

Adding Alchemy Transmutation, Enchantment and Abjuration as these skills pertain to the aspects of the spell. Alchemy to identify and purify elements. Transmutation to morph the elements into different shapes/forms. Enchantment to improve the production with several magical runes/energies such as honing
and hardening enchantments. Finally you use Abjuration to create a protective shell that seals the magical effects into the item. As I am not creating an item but practicing the skills that go into the spell I will not add my Perks as that would greatly increase the bonus I have now.

Do: Repeat Action 1.

Do: Train in MOD Gun Theory adding Engineering and Gunsmithing as they apply to the improving the base design.

Do: Repeat Action 2.

These tests use the train modifier but they are mental in nature as they apply to research more than physical labor.
