A Taste of Home

Character info pastebin in progress: http://pastebin.com/iB0tb7rz
Dice odds for best of 3: http://pastebin.com/994WTT3g

General rules:

There is a 10 minute voting period after each post. Non-contradictory votes will be combined as best as possible.

Write-ins for all votes are always welcome and encouraged. They may not all make it into the post or be altered to fit in, but I'll do my best to at least try to address the spirit of the write-in.

Very important or contentious votes may be redone in a stricter voting system as circumstances warrant.

Combat mechanics involve three rolls of 1d100, taking the best, and using the base accuracy and crit ranges of the game, roughly, but the 'turn order' will be more like the anime, where sometimes you can do a few moves in a row or be hit by a combo of moves yourself, all depending on circumstances. Stronger moves tend to take more time and have more cooldown than weaker moves, so beware of that timing. Speed is more important for closing ground, intercepting, and other things and doesn't necessarily mean going first. Infact, you can do more than one move in a row like the anime, but so can your opponents.

Call me out on a mistake and receive a suggestive picture, mostly likely a butt.

Pokemon:
Gobble (Munchlax)
Mace (Roggenrola)
Belladonna (Roselia)
Dice (Totodile)

Badges: 3

Location: A tiny island somewhere near Take that holds Mainland pokemon

Recently: You negotiated and brought the Kecleon to a new home, and engaged in an aura mixing ritual with Keira.

That latest bin was pretty good gobble

You arrive back at the landing spot on the beach just in time to see the sunset. Keira detaches herself from your arm and cartwheels towards the food. “So hungry!”

You give Bella a head pat when she comes to greet you. You’re starving too, though. Laki hands you a bowl when you get closer. “Took you two long enough. What did you get up to?”

“Hmm, Aura mixing.” Keira says while very quickly blessing her food. “And bathed and touched ourselves.” You nearly choke. Keira sure doesn’t mind letting anyone know.

Laki raises an eyebrow, but lowers it and gives a light chuckle and leans over to you. “Oh Keira. She never knows how things sound when she says them.”

Nice bin Gobble! It's nice to see Keira and Herb growing closer.

>>1483764
>”Nope, It’s exactly how it sounds.”

Herb is an honest boy. If Keira's comfortable talking about it, might as well be on the same page. Though,
>asking Keira about discreetness
is understandable to.

>>1483764
>”Nope, It’s exactly how it sounds.”
>>
>>1483800
agreed since it's Laki it's fine but if this got out and the priesthood heard about it then it could amount to big trouble. Even telling Laki probably won't end well but it's true to Herbs character.
>>
>>1483824
Herb being so open and out about sexual encounters doesn't really seem true to his character
>>
>>1483830
but him being open in general does, and he has yet to have any sort of partner that was in any way open about it; Keira isn't hiding it at all.
>>
>>1483838

I don't think he'd just be open with it just because she was and considering he and Laki just had their own lewd time the day or so before I would think he'd me even more hesitant to talk about it.
And yes while I know that Laki probably would just joke and be okay with it but I don't think Herb would.
>>
>>1483852
because that's a secret he is keeping for Laki, plus modesty of course. The catalyst here is Keira bringing it up and now he has two options

Lie for his own sake which he has never once done in the entire quest and is very much opposed to doing

Or fess up and admit what happened
>>
>>1483867
Exactly it's a horrible idea, I just don't think Herb would lie for his own sake when Keira is fine with it.
>>
Herb can just say 'i'll explain later' but no need to get into deets unless laki pushes and/or keira just goes on and on about it
>>
>>1483868
I'd say that's using a bit harsher terms than necessary
He's a young guy still getting used to sexuality and it's very reasonable to think he'd be embarrassed to talk about things
>>
Herb is also shy and easily embarrased about this kind of thing. He'd rather not talk about it at all.
>>
>>1483886
it's a valid option but it doesn't seem the most honest and open the most "Herb" response to me so I didn't vote for it.

>>1483888
He hasn't seemed embarrassed thus far, pretty repressed but not embarrassed. At least to me.

Either way if you don't agree with me at this point then you're probably not going to so I'll drop it.
>>
The whole thing is a little weird. You can't exactly compare this to Laki or Hana, since Herb didn't know that they were okay with him talking about it to others. So this is the first time he's had to consider how he feels about it himself.

Either way, he's either going to need to talk about it to at least Laki or ask Keira to be modest for him. I'm rooting for both.
>>
“Uhh...huh.” You say, non-committally “Hey, this bowl is pretty neat.”

Laki’s eyes narrow. “It’s the same one we’ve always had.”

“Your cooking is really good!” You change the subject again. “What is this?”

She blinks and smiles. “Really? You think so?”

“Yeah!” You really do. You’re impressed. “I’m impressed.”

“Thanks! It’s a simple dish my mom always made for me after training. I’ll teach you sometime.” That really seemed to make her day. “It’s not too salty, is it?”

“No, it’s the perfect amount.”

The two of you talk food for awhile. Laki seems to have cheered up from before.

You look around and see no Kecleon. They must have gone to find a good spot to lay their claim. You look over to Keira and she’s already crawling into bed. You guess she’s pretty tuckered out. Laki stretches and yawns. “So, lots of pokemon here from the mainland. Does it make you nostalgic?”

You smell the air. “Yeah. A bit.”

“You want to look around?”

“A walk sounds nice.”

The two of you get up and head out into the forest. The setting sun peaks through the trees as you get a bit deeper, providing a nice orange glow to everything. Bella and Dice follow you, but Mace and Goggle stay on the beach to get some sleep.

“I remember this smell.” Laki reminisces. “Brings me back to the ceremony before the games.” She smiles for a minute, then sours. “Guess you don’t have a lot of specific memories, since this was like every day for you.

“Well I-”

A sudden burst of flame explodes by your feet. A small spark catches on your pant leg, but you manage to quickly put it out before it does much.

Laki puts her hand across your chest and steps in front instinctively. “Where’d that come from?”

You both look around into the bush for a second.

SLAM!

You both look to the noise. There’s something on the other side of that brush! You move to see and find two pokemon battling in a clearing. It’s a Tauros and Ponyta! They haven’t even seen or noticed you yet. They’re busy circling each other.

It looks like the Tauros is in trouble. At least, from what you can see. It’s got a burn. Ponyta looks like it took a beating to deliver that burn, though.

“Is this normal?” Laki asks. You guess she assumes you’d know, since they’re mainlander pokemon. You recognize them, and you’ve even seen them both before in real life, but you’re no expert. Seeing no reaction from you, she relaxes a bit. “Who do you think is going to win? My money’s on that fire one.”

Bella climbs onto Laki’s shoulder. Dice comes to your side to watch, but there’s no way he can see through that bush. He’s just staring at a leaf.

“I don’t know. Tauros are pretty strong. And he looks like he wants it more.”

“Trust me. Wanting it more doesn’t means as much as you think.”

You lift Dice onto your shoulder to give him a better view. He immediately zeroes in on the action like a magnet. “What do you mean?”

“Forget it.” She looks forward again. “Oh. Here it comes!”

They stop circling each other. Ponyta huffs a puff of flames and smoke. Tauros taps the ground and lowers it’s head. For a moment, they’re just still.

Then Tauros moves. They both charge at each other. Tauros lowers it’s head. You think it’s going to strike with a headbutt type of move, but instead, it’s horn crackles. Clouds form overhead and a great and mighty Thunder comes crashing down from the sky. It explodes a nearby log into splinters, missing it’s actual target by a mile.

“Shit!” Laki ducks in surprise, despite the safe distance. “Did you see that?”

Ponyta is startled, but doesn’t flinch. It quickly closes the rest of the gap and kicks Tauros in the side, sending it sliding to the ground. Tauros moans and lifts it’s head, but then drops. It’s knocked out.

Ponyta huffs, looks at the exploded log, and starts to trot away.

“What do you want to do?” You ask Laki.

“If you’re asking if I want to catch any, I’m good. I’ve still got some fallout from the last pokemon I caught.”

“Oh, right.” You still want to ask he about that. But now’s not a good time. You watch as Ponyta trots away, then you go to the knocked out Tauros. Dice almost falls off of you, but instead he uses his tail to catch himself at the last second and spin around to the other shoulder. His arms and legs and face don’t seem to react at all.

“Careful.” Laki warns, keeping a lookout. “Wild pokemon can get scared easily by people.”

You nod and lay your hands on Tauros. Closing your eyes, you dig deep and far into yourself and...hey. This is a lot easier than before. Maybe it’s because of the aura mixing with Keira, maybe it’s practice, or maybe both. But whatever the case is, you feel more confident and in control. Specifically...

What if the fight's inside, though. Like with that Kabutops, for example. Gobble and to a lesser extent Dice are going to have the same problem, Mace too if he decides to evolve. We could very well end up in a situation where we can only rely on Bella to fight.

I dunno. I just like my ghosts more spooky, less giant smash robot.

It’s not so much your ability to heal, as it is the ability to unlock something deep inside that was always there. A hidden potential. Of course, you’ve just unlocked this in yourself, so you know you have a good way to go with it, but you can tell there’s something to this. You can see inside Tauros right now. He’s a special one. Smart. Very smart. You think he taught himself Thunder.

Oh. You see. As you’re healing him, you find an old, poorly healed injury on his rear left leg. You think you understand the story here. With that injury, he couldn’t attack as hard as others, so he found a different way.

You try your best to see what you can do about that leg, but you just don’t understand how these things work well enough. You do feel like Tauros has more potential for focusing his special attack, though. You can touch on it a bit, but since this is all new to you, it’s just a small amount.

Your eyes shoot open at the sudden flurry of hooves and panic from Tauros is it scrambles to get upright. It leaps away from you and crackles it’s horns.

“Hey, it’s alright.”

It jumps side to side, unsure of what to do with it’s energy. It’s eyes are locked on you, wild, confused, and angry. No, not angry, scared. Now that you know about it’s leg, you can easily spot how it favors one side.

“Herb, be careful.” Laki warns, stepping closer. Tauros gets spooked by her doing that, and lowers it’s head. She stops, but looks ready to spring into action. “And you, Miltank wannabe. Try to be grateful to Herb here. If you hurt him, I won’t go easy on you.”

Tauros cocks its head. It seems very confused. It goes back to being defensive after a moment, but a lot less so.

“It’s alright. I just want to be friends.” You say, trying to reach out a bit.

Tauros assesses you for a moment. It looks to Laki, with Bella on her shoulder, and then to you, Dice on yours.

It makes a strange noise. Bella answers enthusiastically and somewhat defensively. Tauros is ignoring her though, and talking to Dice.

Dice sits there for a moment, tongue sort of just laying there outside of it’s mouth, then it finally answers. Whatever Dice said, Tauros seems to accept. It relaxes even more.

You take another chance and reach out to touch it on the head. It lets you get a short few seconds of scratching in before pulling away.

“Want some snacks?”

Laki rolls her eyes, but she’s smiling while she does it. “You can’t just do that every time.”

That’s where she’s wrong, because it snorts. You think that’s a yes. You reach into your bag and give it some leftovers. It takes it’s time sniffing them. Bella and Dice are eager to have theirs. Bella keeps a jealous eye on Tauros, though.

The group sits around for a bit. Tauros finally gives in and starts eating. It seems to approve. In fact, it’s looking a lot better. And curious. It keeps eyeing your pokedex.

You show it the pokedex. It seems mystified by the images, but it shows a keen understanding after a minute. It freaks out when you get to the Tauros entry. It stomps and jumps and makes all sorts of noises.

“Yeah. It’s Tauros. Just like you.”

You keep holding it up, and carefully going through the information there. Tauros, as smart as it seems, doesn’t seem to be able to read, though. So you read it out for Tauros instead. It settles in over time. It’s like reading a story. Bella comes to cuddle in with Dice and even Laki is getting tired and yawning. She leans against you too.

Tauros listens intently for the entire thing, though. When you’re done, it sits and reflects.

“So what do you think?” You’re not sure what else to ask.

It snorts and cocks it’s head. You’re confused for a second, but then you understand. It wants you to go back to something. You flip through and finally land on the info page that it wants.

Surf.

“You want to learn Surf?”

It nods, eagerly jumping.

You don’t really know that move, or how to teach it. You wonder if you could. You wonder if you should. This island is made to contain mainland pokemon, right?

“I’m going to teach you Surf, Tauros.”

It’s eyes open wide. A mix of joy, a little suspicion, and trying to figure out how this all works.

“But I need you to understand something. You have to use it responsibly.” You explain about the Kecleon. “So do you understand?”

It considers the terms, and stomps in the affirmative.

“Mrehng!” Laki mumbles, half asleep.

“What?”

“It’s late. Do it in the mooooooooorninnnnng.” She pulls in your shirtsleeve to bring herself upright.

“Can we ask Wailord for help?”

“Mrrmg. Sure. Whatever. I will agree to literally anything that results in going back to get some sleep.” She wipes her eyes. “Carry me.”

Laki has a good point. It is pretty late. “Alright Tauros. First thing tomorrow morning, we’re going to start on Surf!” You push yourself up, then lean down to lift Laki. Tauros scoops her up instead thought, and shunts her onto his back.

“Woah. Okay.” Laki wakes up a lot. “Not what I had it mind, but this works. I guess.”

You all head back to the camp. Tauros let’s Laki down and she flops into her bedroll. You curl up next to Gobble and the others and get some shuteye too.

You wake up the next morning being nudged by Tauros. It’s eager to get started.

“What about break-”

It drops a big bushel of berries, then snorts and stomps.

“Alright then.”

You wake up your other pokemon. Everyone seems eager to get in on learning. That’s good!

Keira has that same satisfied look on her face and doesn’t seem to concerned with anything going on, and Laki is sleeping in. You hope Keira isn’t broken. She’s just been humming and sort of dopey since the stream.

Nah. She’ll be fine in a bit.

You walk out to Wailord in the water. It looses a big jet of water to greet you. Tauros, Gobble, Dice, and Wailord all wait for your instructions.

You suddenly realize that you have no idea where to start.

>Ask Wailord to take the lead and keep showing everyone

“First we need to get used to the water.” You go out a bit deeper.

Tauros looks at you, Wailord, and Dice, but goes along with it.

The four of you get to swimming around. Not really doing much, but just sort of going back and forth, up and down. Gobble and Dice and even Wailord are having some fun. Gobble is clearing the weakest swimmer of the three, but he doesn’t let it bother him. Tauros joins in, but doesn’t seem to want to have too much fun. At least at first. But he is looking skeptical about you knowing what you’re doing. You’re getting a bit worried about that. You get more worried when you realize you you’ve lost track of Dice.

“Dice?”

Wailord cries out in surprise and flops in the water. It’s tail flicks above the water and the small Totodile that’s biting on it goes flying out deep into the ocean! Really far!

“Dice!”

Tauros tries to climb to the top of the water and use surf. He doesn’t quite get all the way, but he does make a floppy wave that sends you, him, and Gobble in that general direction.

The three of you get about halfway there, with Tauros becoming very alarmed at being this far out.

“Dice!” You do your best to stay calm and above water. Looking over to Gobble, you see what you should do. You relax, stay mostly still, and stop fighting so hard. His natural fat makes him float better than you, but if you keep your lungs mostly full, you can stay above the water without too much effort.

Tauros is alarmed, but tries to follow your lead. It freaks out and paddles hard any time it bobs downward, though. The more he does that, the more he bobs and the more he panics.

“Dice!”

You can see a small figure coming your way. That’s got to be Dice! Wow, you really got out deep. And he was twice as far. You wonder if he would have known where to go if you didn’t come after him.

You’re relieved to see it’s actually him and not some wild water pokemon. With your bad luck, this is a nice mercy.

“Dice. Are you okay?”

He gives you a gentle bite on the arm. You sigh in relief. Doing that makes you sink a little and you inflate your lungs back up.

Tauros is flailing pretty hard now. You’re getting pretty worried. How much energy does he have?

>Let’s all swim slowly and calmly back with Dice helping us out. Try not to take any risks
>Tauros! Give Surf another shot!
>Gobble, try Surf to get us back!
>Dice! Surf us back!
>Don’t waste energy. Stay out here and surely the girls or Wailord will come to your rescue

Hmm, I wonder if there will be a point in the near future where Kiera will approach Laki and confront her about her fear of getting close to her since she's a priestess.
Or at least give a reason as to why she's so hesitant while everyone else has gotten pretty casual.
See where their relationship goes when Laki stops seeing her as Priestess Kiera and just as Kiera. She seemed pretty fine with Herb getting close, wonder what's stopping her from making advances on Kiera.
I totally don't want Herb and Kiera to lewdly dominate the flustering /fit/girl after training on the beach no sirree, that'd be barbaric.

You all carefully swim back.

“It’s okay, Tauros. Don’t worry. See! There’s the island. We’ll swim back together.”

It calms down a bit, but still gets worried any time it dips a little. Dice seems to understand the need to help and acts as a floatation device and propeller.

“Just like that. Good.”

It takes a long time, but you end up getting back. After you’re most of the way there, Wailord comes up from under you to lift you all up. That scares the absolute poop out of all at you at first, though. You can see Tauros having even more jittery reactions as you get closer. It leaps off and onto the sand as soon as it can.

Nobody noticed you were gone. Laki is training hard with her other pokemon. Keira is nowhere to be seen.

The group rests on the beach for awhile, regaining your strength. Gobble is a little rattled but fine, Dice doesn’t seem to care at all and flops his way over to a few more berries. Wailord seems a little worried about getting in trouble, and you assure it that it didn’t do anything wrong. It was an accident. But Tauros looks like it’s lost some of it’s nerve to go onto the water.

“You should be proud, Tauros. That was really impressive for a normal type.”

Tauros looks a bit proud. Gobble kicks you in the shins.

“Err, sorry Gobble. I didn’t mean it like that.”

Gobble nods, satisfied with his apology. But then Bella comes along and tells him something, and he folds his arms in contempt again. Then he reaches out, excepting something.

“Do you want food as an apology?”

He nods.

“Bella! What did you tell him?”

But Gobble gets food placed in his hand. Not by you, but by Keira. She’s been cooking up a storm! You’ve never seen her be so enthusiastic about it. Or really do that much cooking before. “I forgot this can happen sometimes.” She says, giving everyone a portion. “After aura mixing, you can get a bit like the other person a day or two after. It doesn’t last too long. Sorry I forgot.”

“That’s fine.” You say cheerfully. You climb up to a tree branch and enjoy your food while thinking up a good way to train. Yeah! You’ll just switch it up and do it on land!

After the meal, that’s exactly what you do. You get Gobble, Dice, and Tauros working on summoning the water on the beach instead of worrying about the ocean. “Just like this!” You try to imitate the motion. You know you look foolish, but you don’t really care. It’s fun!

The pokemon all do their best. They manage to make the surrounding sand moist or even soggy, but it’s not quite there yet.

You don’t feel like you’re making very quick progress with Surf, but you are bonding. Before you know it, the entire day has gone by.

You lay there, exhausted, with the pokemon around you. Your eyes glance over to Keira and Laki. Somehow, Laki managed to get Keira in a headlock. That’s pretty unusual for them. You just smile and scratch Tauros behind the ear. He sighs and makes himself a nice indent on the sand to rest in.

What’s another day or two? You’ll get there eventually, right?

[That’s it for today. We’ll be picking up much earlier tomorrow. Thanks for coming, everyone! Get some sleep!]

You, Tauros, Gobble, and Dice keep at it until night time. You keep checking in with the girls and they say it’s fine. Laki’s been training really, really hard, and Keira’s been cooking up all sorts of different things with plants she’s never seen and making different accessories or trying new paint patterns.

You on the other hand, feel more in tune with your aura, and more able to understand what your pokemon are trying to communicate. You feel like you’ve never been too terrible at that, but it’s nice to get some more clarity.

It occurs to you that this might be a good opportunity to have a more complicated conversation with one of your pokemon.

You have a lot you want to talk about, but first thing is Bella and her behavior. She’s always pushing boundaries. You’ll talk to Dice after that if you have time.

You find her hanging upside down from a tree doing sit ups with Laki.

“Hey Soft Hands.”

“Hey! How’s it going?”

She finishes up with a grunt, then drops down, falling to her feet with a thud. Bella does the same, but it’s more of a light puff. Meowth falls too. Chatot is watching from a tree branch. “Tired. It feels great.” She puts your hand on her abs. “Solid, right? Hope you’re not backing out of a massage tonight.”

“No no. Hey, can I borrow Bella?”

Laki looks to the flowery pokemon. She makes a gesture with her head towards you, and Bella comes running. “Good work today, Bella.”

You give Laki a hug and take Bella aside. It’s only after that you realize how unprompted that was. You guess you’ve just been craving some physical affection today.

Bella looks up to you with a question on her face.

“Bella, what were you telling Gobble before?”

She thinks, but then she remembers. You don’t understand it like you do words, but you get the gist. She was telling him that he could get a treat as compensation, instead of just accepting an apology.

You sigh. That’s not exactly a great thing for her to teach others, let alone believe.

>Try giving her a taste of her own medicine so she understands how that feels

“That’s not right. You can just extort stuff any time you feel you’ve been wronged.”

“Why not? If they’re sorry, then they should prove it.” Those aren’t her exact words, because she’s not really using them, but that’s the idea of what she’s trying to say.

“Why haven’t you given me anything when you’ve had to apologize to me? Didn’t you mean it?”

She opens her mouth, but can’t think of what to say. She looks down. You think you’ve gotten through to her, but then she picks up a bunch of sand and tries to offer it to you.

“Belladonna. I don’t want stuff. I want you to understand.”

This time she seems to get it. Maybe it’s your tone or maybe you have the right look on her face. “I’m not trying to punish you. I just want you to understand. I still love you, okay? It’s not just what you said to Gobble, though. It’s a lot of things.” You try to list off things she’s done that she shouldn’t, and why.

Bella looks down again. She doesn't know how to respond. During the silence, Laki comes back to grab a towel she forgot.

“You’re a good pokemon, Bella. You just have some bad habits. We all get those. But we’re going to work on it together, okay? From now on, I’m going to be more strict with you.”

Laki let’s out a scoff and rolls her eyes. It didn’t seem intentional, but it’s clear Belladonna noticed.

You put on your most authoritative, serious business face. “Laki, do you have something to say?”

“Ahh.” She scratches behind her head. She understands the position she put you in in front of Belladonna. “Sorry.”

Bella’s still looking between the two of you, watching how this turns out.

“Good.” You stand tall. “But I’m still going to have to punish you.” Oh jeez. What are you saying? Maybe you can give her food made from the less tasty ingredients. No, your inner chef wouldn’t allow that. Maybe you could just say you will and not-

She puts a hand on her hip and gives you a skeptical look. You’ve gone too far and she’s calling your bluff. “Oh really? What’s that?”

You look at Bella. She’s putting her hand on her hip, too. “You’re not getting a back rub tonight.” Internally, you brace for the worst.

Laki’s face doesn’t turn angry, or condescending. She looks like a small, scolded child. “W-wait. Come on. That’s not fair!”

You turn and walk away, satisfied that Bella is watching.

“Herb!” Laki chases after you. “Please? I know it was a jerk move and all, but come on.” Laki stops when Keira comes by. You guess she doesn’t want to beg in front of her. “Alright. But I’m going to work you extra hard for training next time.”

Next, you find Dice. He’s standing in an inch of water, swooshing it with his tail.

“Hey Dice. How’s it going?”

Dice looks up to you, then to the ocean.

>...so. Were you scared when you went into the ocean earlier?

You squat next to him and watch his tail sway in the water.

Dice is a hard nut to crack. He's nice, he seems to be friendly in his own strange, nibbling way, but what's really going on inside that head of his? What are his hopes and dreams? What are his fears? His values?

You guess you'll just talk. You think, at the very least, he's the quiet type. Sort of like Mace. But Mace also has a professional drive. He likes working toward something when he's not sitting still and just enjoying time pass. The point is though, you understand just wanting to sit and observe. You've been to plenty of family gatherings where you don't want to be put on the spot, but still enjoy being in everyone's company.

So you'll just talk. But what's on your mind?

Hey Gobble, I've got questions about the geography. Is the "mainland" refer to a specific region or the whole rest of the world? Because the impression I'm getting is that when, say, lake doesn't recognize a pokemon and assumes Herb does, it's like a Hawaiian assuming a Californian has seen a Zebra in the wild.
>>
>>1486937
[Rest of the world. Your metaphor is dead on.]
>>
>>1486950
I'll need to remember to vote for Herb to explain that to his friends sometime. Herb's immigrant status has been a constant element in this quest, and not just to use Herb as a reason target for exposition and I think that's pretty neat. I'd love to see it drive the story a bit more directly again. I guess I should say that I'm hype for more anti-mainlander encounters.

“You ever have girl trouble?” You ask. He doesn’t react. “I guess I never expected this type. Too much attention. Who saw that coming, right? I’ve never been this popular. And I’ve never felt so disregarded either. It’s frustrating when people like that Max guy acts like a jerk. Or when I just want an encounter with Jane where she’s not accusing me of this or that. Or just a few days in a row where my clothes don’t get muddy or torn or something. Do you ever get frustrated or worried like that?”

Dice looks at you, but still hasn’t said anything. Somehow you get the idea that he’s worried.

You pat him gently on the head and watch the sea. “It’s been a busy journey, ever since I got here. I haven’t done a lot of thinking about what I want to do, like trying out a contest, or learning a new recipe from every temple.”

He glances at you.

“Yeah. I’m not from here either. Did I ever tell you that? Well, it’s true. We have that on common. There aren’t other Totodile or Herbs here. Well, there are herbs, but not like me. Get it?” He doesn’t react besides blinking. You continue. “This island smells a bit like where I’m from. Lots of similar trees, pokemon, that sort of thing. It’s just close enough to be familiar, but different enough to notice.”

He looks back into the ocean.

“Hey, no worries if you don’t want to say anything.”

He finally makes some noise. You feel like your ability to understand him is fading, but you think he’s saying that his jaws are his strongest muscles.

“Oh. That’s uh, good to know.”

He continues. He says that he bites on people and pokemon because he wants to keep them from leaving. But he doesn’t bite hard because he doesn’t want them to hate him.

“Oh, Dice...”

He’s had a lot of fun. But he knows you’re going to leave him here.

That's the thing. People tend to be resistant to changing their core beliefs, we tend to alter our perceptions of new information to fit our feelings instead. “Dice!” You pick him up. “I’m not going to leave you! Where did you even get that idea?”

He was left by his old trainer. And Laki let her pokemon go.

“That’s not you and me, okay? I’m not going to leave you. Never ever ever. Do you understand? No matter what!” Your eyes are tearing up and your throat hurts.

Are you sure? Even if he’s doesn’t learn well, or he causes trouble? Or the other pokemon don’t like him?

“I promise.” you hold him tightly. What are you doing? You pull him back, then chomp down lightly on his head. A few seconds later, you feel his teeth on your shoulder. You sniff. Poor Dice. “I’m never going to abandon you.”

You can’t tell if that’s his tear making your shirt wet, or his slobber. He bites tighter.

Actually, ow. That’s really starting to hurt. A lot.

You both cry and hold each other. Your hold on tight and try not to bite him too hard back as his digs into your shoulder. Oowowowowowowow that really stings.

You almost toss him off out of reflex, but you manage to keep it together until he finally relaxes. You’re a bit concerned when he has to pull back as hard as he does to get his teeth unindented. Oh wait, you’re bleeding.

He looks guilty.

“Hey. It’s alright. Emotional moment. No problem.”

He looks so happy when you pat him on the head and reassure him. He hugs your upper leg this time. You’re sigh in relief when he doesn't bite your crotch. Eventually he turns around and you both watch the tide come in for a bit. But it’s late, you’re both pooped, and it’s time to call it a night. You head back with him to the camp. He happily runs ahead to the sleeping spot and inserts himself into a pile of sleeping pokemon consisting of Gobble, Mace, Cutiefly, Meowth, Nincada, Tropius, and Belladonna.

Laki yawns and turns over when you crawl into your sleeping bag. “Hey Her-Woah! What happened?”

“Oh this? No big deal.” It hurts. SO much!

“Well, are you going to heal it?”

That’s a good question. Can you? Do you want to try that on yourself? You feel like your Keira-ness has faded mostly away by now. It helped you understand your pokemon a bit better, but does it also help you focus your energy?

“Well aren’t you a tough guy. Don’t expect any sympathy from me, mr. Stingy-With-Massages.” She rolls back over.

Well, you guess you should have expected that.

A few moments later, she gets back up. “Alright. Let me take a look at it.” Laki helps you clean it up, just to be safe. You flinch at every swab. Before you know it though, it’s over. “You’ll be fine.” Laki rolls back over and goes to sleep, and you decide that’s a great idea, too.

You wake up with Keira sprawled over both of you. “Blessed morning!”

“Good mo-” Hoof! The wind is taken out of Laki as Keira leans on her chest to move out of the way. “rning.”

You get up, stretch, make breakfast, and get ready to get to work. You see Dice chomping onto the side of Mace. Mace seems to be trying to wait him out while meditating, but Dice just isn’t leaving. It’s pretty adorable.

Now, where is Tauros?

You look around the camp for awhile, and fail to find anything. After you spread a bit further, you finally find him. He’s grazing on a small grass clearing. Between bites and chews, he’s trying to summon water.

“Want some breakfast?” You offer.

He takes a few nibbles, but goes back to his grass. You get the feeling that he’s worried about being too much in your debt.

Something just occurred to me. Imprison could overpowered as FUCK in Gobble's system. Focus training on simply learning fuckloads of moves with just enough speed to usually go first, and you could just lock out vast swathes of options and shut down beginners completely.
I wish we'd thought of this last quest. Herb isn't enough of a powergame to pull that kind of shit.

Oh shit. Mew can learn every move. It could be the ultimate "Everybody sit the FUCK down" button.

“Good attitude.” You pat him on the haunches like you think Polu or someone else might. He’s a bit startled at first, but he likes the compliment. “I think we can get it finished up today.”

He nods and snorts. He seems to like your attitude too. Yeah. You’re just a couple of dudes getting stuff done. The two of you head back to the others and get to work. Gobble finishes eat and joins, and Dice follows right away.

“Ready to bring it all together?” You ask them. They learned to move water first, then summon it after. “Who wants to go first?”

They all seem relatively ready. No volunteers to try first. Whoever does runs the risk of looking foolish. You’re pretty confident in their abilities, but you can understand the pressure. Looks like you’ll have to single somebody out. You feel like whoever goes first will imprint on the others. They might pick up that particular style of doing it.

Gobble’s style is a bit aggressive, surprisingly. When he was moving war, you noticed he was bringing in a lot of power as it came down at the last second. (High rolls do better, low rolls do worse)

Dice adaptable. He’s ready for any surprises or changes in direction. (less cooldown, able to not be carried along with it as much if needed)

Tauros is very defensive. You think his style is more likely to produce a defensive wall that he happens to collapse on his opponents. (No getting crit when using it, can be used defensively)

>Gobble. He’s had the least amount of distractions
>Dice, especially after last night

It's not a bad idea by any stretch, but the ability to give Dice and Gobble a particular style of surf is too tempting to pass up. I'd like Tauros's style, but Dice's style wouldn't be bad either. Gobble's is the only one with a downside, so I'm not into that. The actual worry about embarrassing someone doesn't really factor into the decision for most when mechanical options are so clearly on the table.

You decide to give it a go first, to show them it’s no big deal if they don’t get it right. You grab a log and run into the water up to your knees. “Watch! I’ll do it first!” You push it out a bit, then try to climb aboard. You manage to stand all the way up before it spins under you and you flop into the water.

“See? No big deal.”

You can see Laki and Keira watching. They’re way too far to hear, but it’s pretty obvious they think you’re acting confusingly. That’s okay. If your pokemon see you enjoying it, they’ll lighten up! Well okay. Having the girls watch you is making you a little nervous.

“Dice, why don’t you give it a try?”

Dice leaps into the water. For many seconds, nothing happens and you start to worry. A big rush of water shoots up into the air, lifting you with it. You lose your bearings for a second before you find yourself being carried over the beach by the water. You going to hit Gobble and Tauros, but the Surf splits just in time. You both come down just shy of the camp in front of the girls. Dice is in your arms with two tiny pearls. In his mouth. He drops them in front of Laki and Keira.

“Umm. tada?”

“Very smooth.” Laki says with that smug but somehow nice smile of hers.

“They are!” Keira picks hers up. “They’re pearls after all. Thanks!”

You set Dice down as the girls go back to what they’re doing. “Good job! Really good job!”

He gives you a nice hug and runs off towards Gobble and Tauros. They three of them use Surf for hours, making sure they have it down and also having a lot of fun. Besides what you assumed in terms of adaptability, they all seem to be able to direct, curve, and split it. It’s not perfect, but very handy.

Finally, hours later, things settle down. You sit with them enjoying a nice break and some water. To drink, this time. Training is thirsty work.

“Well, Tauros. I guess you don’t need my help anymore. You’ve really got it down.”

Tauros stomps, as if to tell you to stay here. He runs off into the forest.

“Huh. I wonder where he’s going.” Keira says, coming out of nowhere. “Oh yeah. Where are we going?”

Where are you going? Oh! After this. That’s a good question!

There’s Kontote, the volcano island that Polu is from, with lots of metalworking. You think you heard it’s pretty poor and culturally different from the others.

There’s Tabo. The breadbasket of the islands. Keira might like that if there are lots of plants.

You could visit your family back in Kaitwe. See how things are there. Then agian, you could call too. Maybe you should do that sometime soon.

Oh yeah, Terichi and Huka, those two cities on the big island to the west. That’s the direction everyone else seemed to go. But they might have travelled somewhere else by now.

“Umm, I’m not sure. I’ll need to think about it.”

You’re split. You want to pay off your debt for the rod, but you need that last gem. Hana said she’d help with that, though. You could also visit home. You haven’t checked in for awhile. You feel a bit guilty, but time just seems to fly when you’re on an adventure. There’s Tabo, too. That island looks huge, and sounds like it has an interesting history.

Well first things first. You want to make a few calls. First is to home. Then Hana after

It rings. Then rings. Then rings again. Finally, your little brother answers.

“Hello?”

“Hey! It’s Herb.”

“Herb!” Your brother shouts. He immediately asks you a million questions. What pokemon have you seen, how many battles have you won, what other pokemon have you seen, any evolutions you’ve witnessed.

“Woah, woah, slow down. I’ll tell you more later. Where are mom and dad?”

“MOOOOOOOOM!” You have to take the pokedex away from your head. His scream makes the connection a bit staticy. “Herb’s asking for you.”

There’s a rustle and you see your mom’s face pop up. She’s using the video. “My Johnny boy!”

You look to Keira and Laki. They both heard that. “Mom!”

“Oh, sorry sweetie. Herb. How’s your journey?”

You catch up for awhile. Mom’s been working a lot of overtime to get established. Your little brother is handling being left alone at the house for a few hours when they go out to accomplish things. Dad’s been great around the house and fixing things up. They have a nice garden going now, too.

“Sounds like everyone’s working hard.”

“Except your sister.” Your mom tells you. “She’s made some friend and she’s out travelling. Left to go hang out and called me late at night saying she’s staying over. That turned into a trip to another island.”

“Which one?”

“Terichi. But that was for a concert yesterday. She said she’s visiting her friend’s house today but hasn’t told me exactly where it is. I swear, if that girl showed half as much enthusiasm during her actual journey, I- Oh, I’m sorry Honey. Just a bit stressed.”

“It’s fine mom. Is dad home?”

“He’s out right now. Are you eating alright? Making lots of friends?”

You talk for a bit more. Eventually you need to wrap things up, but it’s good to know things are going well. Maybe you’ll visit after all.

“Honey? One more thing. Can you take your pokedex somewhere we can talk privately?”

“Sure mom.” You get an understanding look from Keira and walk off out of earshot. “Is everything okay?”

“I really hate to ask, but...could I borrow some money?”

“Borrow money?”

“We’ve just had more expenses than we thought. There's been delays with your grandfather’s estate, and well, you know how tight things got before I got this promotion. I really hate to ask. If you don’t want to, I’m sure we can figure out something else.” She quotes a number. It’s about twice as much as you have right now.

Yeah man. So if it's real addiction, you are always an addict. Every second of everyday. It's more than a struggle of being on or off the wagon, it's part of who you are. You shouldn't enable addicts, ever. For any reason.

>>1488356

>>

>>1488482
I say all this with a dad who's struggled with addiction in the past.
I've had no issue trusting him since he's sobered up.
>>
>>1488524
None of the addicts Ive ever had the 'joy' of encountering have ever 'sobered up'. This is my own personal experience.
>>
>>1488524
Yeah, but you wouldn't give him a pile of his addiction. I have a parent who is currently an addict with no desire a change, so maybe i just don't have that same kind of faith.
>>
>>1488535
It's weird because while you can keep from using alcohol or meth or whatever, you can't really just give up handling money.
>>
>>1488550
Most addictions have triggers. With gambling I imagine that it's not the handling of money itself that's the problem. It's when you are in the whole that you turn to friends and family and bum for cash that's when it becomes the problem. Cause they have proven they can't handle money responsibly. So you shouldn't put them in the position to say, handle the whole families fiances or say given them large sums of cash and expect it to go where it's suppose to go.
>>
>>1488566
I guess. This is kinda heavy for Herb to have to deal with. I wonder just to what extent it's been a problem in the past for the Johnsons?

Herb actually has a horrible life. He's just really really sweet and naive.

nb4 he's actually on this journey because they couldn't afford to let him stay at home.
nb4 his family is actually hand to mouth and he learned to cook to make poor people food taste good.

“Before I say yes, can I ask you something? Have you been gambling again?” Your heart beats fast and you find yourself blinking a lot.

The line freezes for a second. Then the screen goes black. You can still hear breathing on the other line. “No.”

You bit guilty for asking, now. It was a long time ago, but it caused the family a lot of problems. She hasn’t done it since your brother was born. That you know of.

“Sorry, I just-”

“It’s okay, honey. I understand.” The screen comes back on. Her eyes are a little red. “It’s smart to ask. I’m proud of you. But no. I haven’t been gamling.” Mom’s always been like that, wanting you to ask uncomfortable questions or ask for better prices on things. You really aren’t good at either, but you understand why she pushes it.

That’s a relief. “Alright. I’ll get you the money, mom. Don’t worry.”

“Only if it’s not a problem! I don’t want to bring your journey to a halt.”

“It’s fine mom.” You leave out that you don’t have it all yet “Say hi to dad for me.”

She smiles. “Of course. I love you.”

“I love you too, mom.”

You end the call, then call up Hana.

“Herb!”

“Hey, Hana. How are things?”

“Great! Valerie got first place. And I got that gem!” You can’t see it. The video quality is terrible and it keeps freezing. You both just end up going to audio only.

“Hey, that’s great!”

You catch up some more. She’s given battling another go. She won her last battle, but it was a really close one. She also feels really inspired by the contest and thinks she might enter a small one to see if she likes it.

“Umm, can I ask your advice about something?”

“Sure, what is it?”

“Valerie got me a nice skirt. Well, she let me pick out something and I just went for it. I didn’t mean to, but it was pretty and I fell in love with it. I wanted to have it to wear it by myself. I guess that’s pretty silly.”

“Sure, what’s advice you need? Accessories?”

“No. Herb. It’s... you know, my legs?”

Oh. Right. You feel like a jerk now. “Sorry.”

“It’s okay. But yeah. She told me she can’t wait to see me to wear it to the post-contest dance. She went on about me being brave and how good it’d look. Then someone else from the contest overheard us talking about it. It became a whole thing. I don’t want to be this spectacle, but I can handle that. But what if I’m this big distraction from Val’s moment, you know? I don’t know if I even want to go. I don’t like crowds.”

You can hear her anxiety over the phone.

>She should just explain the misunderstanding to Valerie. And who cares what anyone else at the dance expects
>Encourage her to wear the skirt. People probably won’t make a big deal out of it.
>What about wearing kneesocks with it?

You think for a minute. “If you’re not comfortable, I’m sure Valerie would understand.”

“Yeah. I guess you’re right. But I guess I’d be disappointed in myself. She looked proud of me when she thought that’s what I wanted to do.”

“Well, I think you should go for it, then.”

“Really? I don’t know. I wouldn’t mind it if it were subtle, but I’m going to be all shiny and distracting. If there’s one of those disco balls I’ll end up blinding people. Pshaow!” She very consciously laughs at herself. You laugh too to make her not feel bad. It seems like it’d be funnier if you could see her gesture. “Oh yeah. You can’t see me.” She laughs more self consciously.

Hmm, that’s a tough one. You know for sure that her upper thighs are flesh and blood, but you aren’t entirely sure where the cut off point is. Oh, don’t say cut off point. “What do you think about stockings, or kneesocks?”

“...that might actually work!”

“I mean, it depends on the type of skirt.”

“Okay. I’ll go shopping and get try some on and send you pictures. Is that okay?”

“Yes!” You cough to tone it down. You’re just excited about the fashion aspect too much. “Yeah. Sounds great.”

You talk a bit longer, and she asks where you’re going to go next. You’re leaning towards home.

“How about I meet you there? If that’s okay.”

That sounds fine. But you suddenly think about your brother. He will absolutely ask her a million questions about her limbs.

>Sure. Sounds great!
>Let’s meet somewhere else
>Something else

They've just got to go way, way up to the meat. She's at least got enough skin to have ticklish thighs.

Alternatively, have her with her legs off, with the mouth of the sock on the stubs and the rest hanging loosely.

Alternatively, have her with her leg stub up against someone's butt like she just broke a foot off in someone's ass.

Alternatively, have her chasing someone around using a leg like a club.

Alternatively, have her with an arm stub in someone's mouth like she's reaching around in their stomach.

Alternatively, just have her conspiring lewdly with Vaisi. They've got a bit in common there.

Alternatively, have a groggy Hana who accidentally got a leg and arm switched in the morning.

There's a lot you can do with such a lewd character. Just don't forget the scars pls.

But yeah, do thigh-highs and you can be canon and show the pliant skin yield to elastic.

“Sure, sounds great!” You tell her. You’ll figure it out. Your brother’s smart, maybe you can talk to him. You give her the address and say you’ll meet her there. She’ll probably take a bit if she’s got that dance to go to.

With that, you say your goodbyes and hang up.

“Hey, Soft Hands.” Laki approaches. “What’s the plan?”

“Meeting Hana at my house. Uhh, if nobody has any other plans.”

“Works for me.” She stretches, lifting her heavy chest.

“Oh! I can’t wait to meet your family! I have so many questions!” Keira clasps her hands. That’s scarier than it should be.

“Alright! I’ll get you all some good home cooked meals.”

Laki raises her eyebrows “As opposed to what we’ve been eating? Are you secretly flying in takeout?”

“Takeout?” Keira cocks her head. “Oh! There’s Tauros!” Keira points. “What’s he carrying?” She bounces up to try to see. You can tell that she's not wearing a shirt when she does that. Just paint. You wonder how that's going to be at home.

You glance towards Tauros. What is he carrying? Some sort of-

Before you can see clearly, you get nudged from Dice climbing up your shoulder. Bella follows to get a good view. She gently tries to climb over him and he gently bites her when she does. That just makes her jump a bit and you end up with this awkard scramble on your head and back.

Well, the keks were stowaways. And many may not be first generation immigrants. And I'm sure sometimes pokemon outlive their trainers. But I do imagine that there are a whole lot who were in Dice's position. more importantly, how to get lewds out of valerie, jane and polu
>>
>>1489818
It auto corrects f a m to senpai, who knew
>>
>>1489818
I just really don't feel like we should try to push for lewds. Also trying to tick the list is just an asshole move that just makes Herb into harem protag #89120. That or a slut.

Jane is crazy and you don't stick the dick anywhere near crazy.

Keeping Valerie's relationship as a close friend just seems right, she hasn't really expressed much interest in Herb sexually anyway.

Polu has a girl he's pining for already, the shower scene shows that he's impressed but not interested in Herb sexually either.

I don't want to make the eventual actual relationships even more complicated. Three girls who have at least an infatuation with Herb and soonhopefully he'll have to choose one.
Course I'm not saying polygamy isn't best route, but pursuing everyone feels like it'd be getting closer and closer to a bad end with all of the girls and even our pokemon pitying or hating Herb for being so indecisive.

Honestly I'm hoping that Herb finally mans up and asks Laki to be his girlfriend. No more of this massage toying and "A man takes what he wants" nonsense. It's pretty clear from their developing relationship that these two WILL get together and it has the most support from readers. Is it too much to want him to take her out on a date to a nice little cafe before walking around in his new hometown. Pokemon playing together as they hold hands before finally retreating to a hotel room for the evening where Laki will ride Herb in the cowgirl expression while egging him on to keep pushing through to his third orgasm? Is that too much to ask for?

Then when they meet back up with Kiera in the morning Laki can tease Herb when she catches him staring at Kiera's bodypaint again. "On my island, a man takes what he wants."
>>
>>1489818
Im hoping for bins of those, but not canon. Maybe a "Laki gets her harem of cute blondes together for hedonistic indulgence" at most.

I'm not in favor of thinking of the girls as a checklist either, but nothing we've done so far in that regard has been bad or out of character. If two people are both interested in doing to do, and neither is officially dating anyone, it's pretty normal for them to go for it.

>>
>>1490008
I get you, but I interpreted that as being a deeper concern about how others would look at Herb, rather than regretting the lewds. Keira had pretty much no chance of judging him for that, and I think that gave him some peace, so that some seemed alright with me.
>>

I DEFIANTLY see a Jane lewd being a thing at some point, there's too much tension there for nothing to happen, the only question is when & how

I think herb & val need to interact more, there's been very very little, I wouldn't even say they're particularly good friends compared to some of the other characters. They need to be closer, & even if there's no sexual attraction, there can still be funny lewd mix ups
No idea when it comes to kiera
We all know laki is going to be the lock in if things stay as they are, she's best girl, best friend, best everything & they're both really into eachother

I want to see more Val development in general, Kiera got some really good development , but she still just seems like a guide/fangirl rather than a person if that makes sense imo
>>
>>1490159
Tension, not sexual tension. Also Herb and Val have interacted a fine amount, it just is that they aren't always around each other.
>>
>>1490167
