Your new feathered “friend” has brought word of a great prophecy. A group of second-rate daemons will band together and become a mighty force for Chaos. Their leader? Perhaps one of the most second-rate Khornates there is: You. Or, rather, was. You like to think your rebirth has changed you for the better. Though until you face Her, you won’t be sure exactly how far you’ve come. It’s something that often consumes your thoughts.

In any event, things on the Soul Inferno are progressing slowly. Feva is hard at work training her new arm and with her new weapon. Usha’s instructing her between exercises to better control the transformation of her daemon arm. As for Niazach, she and several of Rikiar’s scouts have travelled into the corridors of the Firestorm-class frigate to get a lay of the land, so to speak. What they find is eerily similar to a ship you once helped capture in the past.

The Inferno carries about five thousand well-trained voidsmen. Aside from that, there’s not much in the way of resistance. Even then, said voidsmen tend to only have las weaponry. You suppose that’s probably due to the fact that their superiors don’t want misfires and missed shots punching holes in the bulkheads. The remaining 20,000 crew (or thereabouts) are split pretty evenly between support, domestic, and peacekeeping roles.

Taking the Inferno would be relatively easy, or so you think. But do you really want to give Usha’s precious prophecy even more ammo?

If you’re a die-hard lover of canon, I suggest you turn away now. Like all things 40k, the gauntlet runs from “worshiping the printed, grimdark word” to “over the top silliness.” Most of the time it’s somewhere in between. Others it swerves hard to one side and/or breaks this model entirely. You’ve been warned in advance. I do try to keep things fairly reasonable though.

Alternatively, if you’re not at all familiar with canon or want more details on something, just ask! You don’t need to have played the original Khornette Quest to play and enjoy this one. I’m sure someone (or I) will explain any cameos that come up if you’re lost.

All rolls go against a specified characteristic in the style of Black Crusade. You’ll want to roll under the characteristic value in order to pass the check. The more degrees of success (every multiple of 10 counts as 1), the more awesome of a result. A 1 or an 8 is a guaranteed success, and a 100 is a guaranteed failure. NPCs I roll for only crit succeed/fail on a 1 or a 100.

Best of three rolls when it’s called for, with a 1, 8, or a 100 instantly taking precedence. If multiple characteristics are being rolled for each 1d100 counts for its respective test. Any rolls prior to the call for one and those not linking said post will be ignored.

I realize that /qst/ is much slower than /tg/ ever was, but I’d like to keep things moving. Voting windows will be a maximum of twenty to thirty minutes after the first vote. Same goes for dice rolling. This week we’re going to be running Wednesday (tonight), late Thursday night, and Saturday.

That’s it housekeeping-wise for now. Onto the quest!
>>
“...and the Bridge can be blocked off by bulkheads here, here, and here.” Niazach points out several places on a holo-map of the Inferno as you, Rikiar, Eraric, and Crocus crowd around a table. “There’s a dedicated lift that runs from the Bridge to Deck 6 where the voidsmen are quartered. It’s large and fast enough to deliver a full platoon in under five minutes. There’s always a battalion of about 800 voidsmen on duty at any given time. Like with the bridge, Deck 6 has special lifts that can get them anywhere in the ship in a hurry.”

You cross your arms and think. For a ship of the Imperium, they seem to actually have their shit together. Well, about as much as humans can anyways. There’s still exploitable holes in their security which should make crippling or taking the Inferno over fairly simple for you. Before you can voice this, though, Rikiar speaks.

“I’m not so sure I want to risk giving ourselves away,” he says to the group at large. “I mean granted, we were able to take Desoleum down pretty easily. But this is different. We don’t know the place well enough to be able to escape if something goes wrong, and once we go loud there will be no turning back.”

“Weren’t you just saying that the men were bored?” you point out. “And besides, you should know by now that loud is my style.”

He scratches the back of his head as everyone present looks at him. “I just wanted to voice that concern, that’s all. I think the best course of action would be to infiltrate Deck 6 to try and take over the lift network. If we can fool some voidsmen over to our side in the process, so be it.”

You motion at the holo-map. “There’s also the main Gellar Field generator, the Engine Room, and the Bridge itself. All are crucial areas that can be used to affect the ship at large.”

Niazach brightens up at the mention of the Gellar Field generator. “Oooo, I like the way you think, Mistress. We could disable the generator and plunge this vessel into Chaos. Even a brief exposure to the Warp unshielded will greatly dwindle the amount of resistance we would face.”

“You mean human resistance,” Eraric points out dryly. “If we do that we’d have to stay here and make sure the random forces of Chaos didn’t overrun our position. Though granted, the bridge’s separate Gellar Field stretches down to Deck 4. We’d probably be fine. Mostly.”

“I’m not sold on the Engine Room either,” voices Crocus. “Based on these maps, it’d be far too easy to get lost in the twisting corridors both to and from the main Engine Room. And that’s not even addressing the hellish conditions that Niazach’s told us about.”

You rub your chin in thought. What area of the ship should you focus on?

>[5] Rikiar, how long do you think it would take you and niazach to buddy up to a few guard and gain access to the lift network? After that, we could cause a distraction with nia and usha with a contingent of men in enviro suits to lure more soldiers into the engines. With that, I lead a larger assault to lockdown the lifts and take down the main gellar field to book it to the bridge and /or deck 4
>>
[4] it is. Back in a bit!
>>
>>1494965
Having a good logistics network is key to any successful battle. By securing the lift network, you’ll be able to get people and equipment to where they’re needed much more quickly. You’ll also be able to prevent any voidsmen from crashing your party. So you give the order, “We’re going to be taking Deck 6 first in order to control the lift network. Where’s the best entrance for us?”

Niazach flicks the holomap and causes it to zoom in on Deck 6. “It’s laid out as a series of barracks with a few mess halls and armories along the way. Most importantly, though, are the number of lifts scattered throughout. The ones toward the aft of the Inferno are for vertical movement, and the others for lateral. As for where to enter… Hm. Probably here.” She points to a mess hall. “This time tomorrow, this mess hall should be fairly empty. There’s a ventilation shaft that empties out right into it. One big enough to fit an armed group of people.”

“Or a daemon or two,” you say.

She nods. “Or a daemon or two. I suppose you also could just try and ring up the aft lifts and descend down that way if you didn’t feel like crawling through ducts.”

“Wouldn’t that mean one of the Ironmongers would have to mess with an access panel?” you ask.

“Yep. There’s a chance they might be spotted. But there’s also the whole matter of getting folks into the air ducts to begin with.”

Hm. So stealth might be difficult, you think. Maybe we could just go for a full frontal assault?

>>
>>1495082
“We’ll use the ventilation shaft,” you say with as much confidence as you can muster. “How do we get in it?”

Niazach points to a spot on Deck 7 roughly above the mess hall in question. “There’s a deckplate-level access point here. From there it’ll be about a fifteen to thirty minute crawl and slide down to Deck 6. Our first worry is getting enough people to the Deck 7 entrance and inside before someone notices. Unfortunately, that corridor is pretty heavily traveled. There’s no way to predict openings or gaps wide enough to sneak in more than a few at a time.”

You sigh. “Lovely. What about causing a distraction?”

“Well of course that could work, Mistress. But it’d have to be pretty major to prevent travel and draw enough attention to get a substantial number of people inside. Though I might have an… idea or two~”

“Why am I not surprised,” you reply while rolling your eyes. “Do I even want to know what it is?”

Niazach’s eyes twinkle. “Well it involves lots and lots of chocolate pudding, a wheel, a las rifle, and-”

You put up a hand to stop her. “Nope. Don’t want to know. I suppose just detonating a grenade or something wouldn’t work, would it?”

“Only one way to find out,” comments Rikiar. “Course we could just try barring the corridor with Fleshcutters pretending to be guards. They’d probably get found out pretty quickly though.”

As much as you hate to indulge Niazach’s excessively weird plans, you have to admit it’ll probably be quite a distraction. So you turn to her and begrudgingly say, “We’ll try your thing, Nia. But I have no idea where you’re going to get chocolate pudding on a ship like this.”

“Just leave that to me~” she purrs back. “The actual hard part will be finding a duck.”

You pinch the bridge of your nose and shake your head. “Nope. Still don’t want to know. When do we do this?”

“Tomorrow at the earliest,” she replies. “After that our window reappears every twenty six hours.”

“And when will we reach Enkidu?”

“A week and a half, assuming the mortals flying this boat don’t run into any problems.”

“I see. In that case, we’ll do this thing…”

“...in a couple of days so everyone get get their heads in the game.” You push back from the table and stretch with your hands above your head. Your back gives a satisfying, audible crack as you limber up. Once you’re satisfied, you add, “That’s all for now. You have your tasks, get to it. You know where to find me if things change.”

Everyone present nods and then filters out of the room. You’re left alone in your suite’s living room. But not for long. Feva and Usha come out of their “hiding place” in one of the back rooms. Feva’s carrying her spear in her daemonic hand, and Usha’s feathers are currently lining the underside of her arms.

“Well that’s certainly a plan,” muses Usha before you can even open your mouth. “Personally I’d just go to the Bridge and scramble the Captain’s mind, but that’s just me.”

You raise an eyebrow at her. “I mean… that could still happen. But how would you even get an audience with the Captain, let alone reach the Bridge?”

Usha shrugs. “Hey I don’t do the whole planning thing, remember?”

“Yeah, I’m getting that.” You decide not to comment on her being second-rate for the time being. Instead, you turn to Feva and observe, “How goes your spear work?”

Feva looks nervously at Usha, then back at you. You notice her grip tightening on her spear as if to provide her support. “I um… I thought that maybe you and I could… spar?”

You continue to keep your eyebrow raised. “And what brought this idea to light?”

“Um it was actually…”

“It was my idea,” cuts in Usha. “I wanted to see how she fights. And since I don’t do weapons, and there’s no one else that I know of that can match her…”

She does have a point. The only mortal among your group that can match Feva is probably Rikiar, and he’s busy. Still, the fact Usha’s taken an interest doesn’t quite sit well with you. Something you in fact vocalize. “Is this because she’s not in your little prophecy?”

“I neither confirm, nor deny that statement.”

Great.

>>

You decide to let that train of thought go for the time being. Usha might be curious in her own way, but you’re personally interested in seeing if Feva’s made any progress over the past week. The only downside to sparring with her here in the suite will be the room’s size. There won’t be room for any really fancy maneuvers or run-ups. But maybe that’s a good thing. You’ll be limited to close-quarters combat, which is something that Feva should learn to handle with a spear.

“Fine. Feva.” She perks up and looks at you. “Help me move this furniture out of the way.”

“O-Of course, Scythe-Mistress.”

The two of you move the couches, tables, and chairs out of the way to give you both about a ten meter by five meter sized space to work with. Usha stays on the sidelines, sitting on the backboard of a couch with her legs crossed, much like how you first saw her down in the cargobay.

You motion for Feva to take up a spot opposite you in the cleared area. She does so, still clutching her spear for dear life. Sure, she might be a little terrified (and insane) to even spar against a daemon like you, but that just means she has brass balls. You wish you could say the same of some others you know.

“First we bow,” you say, bending forward. Feva follows suit. “Good. Now take a few steps back. Then, when you’re ready, come at me.”

Feva turns so that her right side is facing you. Her daemonic left hand clutches her red-tipped, black spear such that the pointy end rests a few centimeters above the deck plate. Were her arm or weapon not be daemonic, she’d probably have trouble holding such a pose. But as she is, she’s only a little bit shaky.

She stares at you with a furrowed brow. Silence passes between you and her. The calm before the storm, as it were. Then, in an explosion of movement, Feva lunges at you.

Daemons are known for having unnatural agility and reflexes in general. So even though Feva’s first lunge is impressive by human standards, you don’t feel threatened at all. In fact, you feel so unthreatened that you put both hands behind your back and swing your tail up around to your front to parry the incoming blow. The idea being such an act will goad Feva into becoming angry. She needs to learn how to channel the blood rage properly.

Of course, while you’re already patting yourself on the back for having such a good idea, Feva steps into range. The red-tipped spear screams through the air at your torso as you attempt to smack it away with your brass-tipped tail. But then it happens.

Instead of parrying the incoming spearhead, your tail is batted away like it was nothing. In fact, Feva’s deflection is so powerful that your tail is sent hurtling out to the side to crack like a whip. You hastily try and bring your claws up, but to no avail. Against all odds and all expectations, Feva’s spear actually hits you.

The daemon-forged weapon easily digs into the flesh and muscle to the right of your belly button. It pierces in about eight centimeters before Feva draws it back. Dark red, boiling blood, your blood, spills out and coats both your side and her spear. But Feva doesn’t stop there. Either she’s simply not processed what just happened, or the sight of blood has triggered her blood rage. She jabs at you twice more, leaving two more gashes in your torso. They burn and fester thanks to the daemon-forged quality of the spear, leaving you momentarily stunned and smarting (-5 wounds).

“What in Tzeentch’s name…” comments Usha from somewhere off to your left. But you don’t have time to respond to it. As you quickly gage Feva’s expression and stance, you see that she’s still coming at you with the intent to kill. If it weren’t for the Gellar Field, you’d summon your scythes and end this fight here and now. But seeing as how you’re stuck with naught but your fists, claws, and tail, you’ll need to think of something else. And fast.

You’re not about to be forced on the defensive. That would only lead to defeat in the long run. So instead of dodging and parrying Feva’s attacks, you flick your wrists and bring your natural claws to bear. She swipes at your right side in response. You meet the metal shaft of her spear about a quarter of a meter below the spiked tip with your hands. There’s a screeching sound as your claws scrape against the black iron. You push the spear just enough out of the way so that it’ll fly harmlessly past your right shoulder. Then you step forward past Feva’s guard and cock back your left fist.

“GOOD!” you shout at her. “BUT KNOW YOUR PLACE!”

With that, you drive your clawed fist into her stomach. There’s an audible rush of air as the wind is knocked out of Feva. Her eyes bulge and her mouth opens in an expression of shock. The two of you remain in place for a few seconds, then Feva’s expression changes. Her mouth twists into a wicked, wild smile that stretches across her whole face. Then she starts laughing. The kind of laughter you know means that the blood rage has fully taken her over now.

Really, there’s only one non-lethal way of fixing Feva. And that involves copious amounts of punches. Each time she tries to pull back or disengage from you, you follow her like a bloodhound and drive another blow into her. By the tenth such hit, you’re starting to wonder if you’ll have to kill her. But luckily, on the eleventh hit (this one square across the jaw) she goes crumpling to the ground. Unconscious and breathing, but covered in nasty welts and bruises from your strikes. You wouldn’t be surprised if she had internal bleeding and broken ribs.

You stand over her, panting slightly. Then Usha reminds you that she’s still here watching by saying, “Sooooo… What was all that about? Since when does a Khornate allow a mere human to hit them?”

by the end of this Feva is going to replace HER!

I think [3] and [4] have it. Lemme scarf down some dinner, then I'll get to writing. About a ~25 minute break.

You round on Usha, still covered in your own blood and with a maniacal grin of your own. “That is why I keep Feva around. She has potential, far more than any other mortal (and a few daemons) I've ever encountered. It’s all a part of the plan to groom her into a Champion of Khorne.”

Usha cocks her head to the side. “Her? A Champion of Khorne? You’d think someone that important would have shown up in the prophecy. Then again, you Khornates do tend to get yourselves killed fairly often. Maybe she simply doesn’t make the cut and dies somewhere along the line. It’s not like I know anything about your Fleshmarker cultists.”

“Fleshcutter,” you correct her. “And if anything, this just proves you’re wrong.”

She smiles back at you smugly. “What if that’s all a part of the bigger plan? Hm? One arranged by someone much greater than I?”

“I’d say you’re full of shit. But I know how hard it is for you Tzeentcheans not to yell about things going according to plan. So I’ll overlook it.”

“Hmm, well, you think that if it makes you happy.” Usha looks down at Feva’s form and nods her chin at it. “What do you want to do with this one? Should I heal her?”

She's learned her lesson for now, and she'll need to learn to use that spear in actual combat sooner or later, preferably sooner.

You nod, your tail flicking from side to side like a cat’s. “Yes. She’ll be needed to help take Deck 6 in a few days. See to it that she’s fighting fit by then.”

“That is within my power,” Usha replies. “Feva will be ready in due time. But what of me? Shall I go forth and scramble the brain of the Captain? Or will you need me elsewhere?”

[1] it is. I think we'll call it a night there so I can adequately prep for your assault on Deck 6. Or, at least think about it some before you all do something completely off the wall. We'll hopefully be back late tomorrow (Think like 2am EDT late), but worst case we'll have all of Saturday and Sunday night.

In the meantime, here's a mini survey:

1. Who's your favorite character so far, and why?
2. Who's your least favorite character so far? How would you change them?
3. What could I be doing better?
4. What is Nia going to do with all that chocolate pudding and a duck?

Goodnight, thanks for running

1: Feva by far. Nothing against anyone else, I just like her demeanor and potential character arc a lot more than everyone elses

2: No one in particular. Though I can't say I trust Usha yet, my paranoia tells me she's up to something. Iggy sent her to us for a reason, that I know for certain.

3: I like what you're doing, keep up the good work. Maybe add a little more anime tier ridiculous crap, but I expect that to come in later.

4: I have no idea, but I fear for several thousand peoples rectums.
>>
ok I'll answer 4. she will seduce several of the high ranking crew members on the ship, then have them all head to the same room. When they have arrived and begin getting angry at each other a trap she rigged with unleash the chocolate pudding upon them, they will be unable to get proper footing and begin to slip. once this is done a duck will fly in at them charged with chaos energy and explode sending them all flying out of the room and into the corridor next to them with a loud bang. this will attract as much attention as possible and cause maximum embarrassment, then the wheel will come in hitting the men and pulling them further down the hall slicking it with the pudding before several placed lasguns get hit and begin discharging at random creating massive panic and drawing even more attention.

Tzeentch level planning here

1. Rikiar, voice of reason in this madness. Nizach for the same reason.
2. Feva, because players are fawning all over and hyping her to be this super awesome next Kharn with ease. She hasn't earned it and they are handing shit to her. Reeks of MAtt ward levels sue imo.
3. Spreading around character time. We're really focusing on 2-3 and ignoring the others utterly. You had the same issue in the previous quest.
4. I dunno but I bet it will be involved, depraved and brilliant.
>>
>>1496209
1. so far? probably feva, but its pretty close.
2. again fairly close. no one character stands out as particularly deficient.
3. some other anon said to spread the love around, I agree. Also while we of course have a permanent enemy in Her, we dont have mich on the way of more immediate nemesis. just something to think about.
4. okay... here goes.

First off for those who dont know ducks have evolved really wierd reproduction organs. male ducks have essentially 7+ foot long corkscrew barbed prehensile explosion dicks. its fucking horrifying. do not google it. the chocolate pudding is a fetish disguised as an innocent lure. She says "hey ladies, free chocolate pudding" one thing leads to another. from snack party, to food fight, to naked wrestling, at this point the video goes ship wide, then the bondage starts when someone ties someone else to a wheel, and the evening ends with horrible duck bestiality and noone looks at the first mate the same ever again. keikaku dori.

>1. Who's your favorite character so far, and why?
They haven't been officially revealed to the questers yet.
>2. Who's your least favorite character so far? How would you change them?
Rikar because you're not doing anything with him! He needs to be more active in the story, cause events to happen.
>3. What could I be doing better?
Sticking to schedule
>4. What is Nia going to do with all that chocolate pudding and a duck?
A duck walks up to a lemonade stand and he says to the man, running the stand:
Hey. (bom bom bom)
Got any grapes?
>>
>>1496209
1. F E V A !
2. Rikiar needs a little more development. I enjoy his character, though.
3. I don't know. Everything looks fine to me. Maybe more trick options, like the option to summon our scythes in the duel. Something to keep anons on their feet.
4. She better not be using that pudding as lube.
>>
>>1496209
1, i like ember personally, shes pretty unorthadox for a khornate and has a nifty character design
2. I don't dislike any of the characters but it'd be cool if ember was ashamed/developed an insecurity about not being khornate enough after the players keep voting for caution
3. No clue
4. Something utterly degenerate, maybe weave the ducks penis into the cake
>>
Apologies for the radio silence. We're still on track to resume tomorrow afternoon! Thanks for your responses to the mini-survey so far.
>>
Ugh. I'm only just now getting my internet back. So much for running today. Hopefully I won't be waylaid tomorrow, otherwise I'll probably resort to phoneposting.
>>
>>1496209
1: Ember, I like her design (both the character and her weapons) and that she have some thing to strive for, that is not just "to be the best"
2: Rikar, but mostly because he hasn't done much yet.
3: Need more pet Dreadnought (other then that I cant really say since its been pretty good so far)
4: A christmas dinner so good that mortals can't handle it, and mutate or something.

The curse is real anon. Ever since Saturday my schedule's been jam packed. It pisses me off more than it does any of you, I assure you. We'll probably have to do a KQR #7.5 thread to pick up where this left off.
