Future Naruto Quest

This quest is set within the universe of Naruto, long after the end of the series, but ignoring the events of the Boruto Manga and Anime. Of course, because this is Naruto we're talking about, the geopolitics and technology haven't advanced as quickly as they would in the real world. As such, the technology is similar to that of Boruto the Movie, though a bit more refined, and the villages you know and love are largely the same, though their diplomatic situations may not be.

However, the characters will be less familiar, because as much time has passed between the Last and now as passed between the Founding of the Hidden Villages and Shippuden..

You are playing as Kuro Nijiiroh, a fifteen year old Hidden Leaf Chunin. Once a member of Hōōmaru Tachibana’s Team Seven, along with Hakurin Hyuga, and Jimmaru ████ Uchiha. Your family consists of your older sister, an ANBU Black Ops, Shirou; your mother, the restaurateur Ki; and your father Aomon, a Tokubetsu Jounin who specializes in Hand Seals, also living with you is your cousin Haiiro, who's mother sent her to attend the Ninja Academy.

You've returned to the World after three years of being consigned to the Moon for general Otsutsukery, and also the degradation of the diplomatic order of the world.

Last Time, Kuro continued to reaffirm the fact that he's great at beating women.

Abandoning your flashy ninjutsu, you elect to simply drop-kick Baratsuchi in the face.

It works.

Baratsuchi sits back up after you knock her down, waving a hand in front of you as she holds her jaw with the other.

"I give up!" She says slowly, before taking her hand away tentatively. "You win Kuro," she concedes, "good job."

Letting go of your hand and regaining her footing, Baratsuchi pushes her fingers together, thinking, "Well, I suppose, just for a night or two, I could let you stay in my room," she concedes.

Yes, those efforts bear quite a bit of fruit indeed, that night.

You spend the next few days doing things as a proper couple, Baratsuchi mostly choosing the activity.

The two of you catch up on some of the newer movies (but no action films or 'trashier' ones), spend quite a bit of time at various clothes shoppes and tailors, mostly for your girlfriend, but she does get you quite a lot.

You do manage to sample some of the Stone's cuisine, but most of it is from the most expensive eateries Baratsuchi can direct you to.

You spend the nights in a far more fun way.

The last day, you even manage to get some training in with Baratsuchi!

For some reason, now that you're back, training is far easier than it was on the Moon.

You reassure her with a hug. "It'll all remain between you and me, and the bed, and also the shower," you tell your worried girlfriend.

Her drained complexion at your jab remains even as you say your goodbyes to one another as you board the train home.

The news for the past week follows the same trend as the news you caught up on coming to the Hidden Stone, the World Shinobi Congress continues to fracture, while in the United Shinobi Council the ideological squabbles continue between the camps in support of the Daimyo and those in support of increased power to the Kage. Funnily enough, the Hidden Stone has kept up a fence-sitting policy.

Lady Kongoya doesn't really remind at all of what you've read about the Third Tsuchikage.

All the catching up catches up to you by the time you get back home, and, since it's also past ten at night. You turn in when you get home.

You decide to take on an extermination mission in the Land of Bears.

After reading the mission's dossier, which is written in an extremely odd and casual manner, likely by the person requesting the mission.

If this weren't a mission done by request, you suspect that it would be called a 'mass assassination' mission.

You're supposed to leave tomorrow, which doesn't give you time to do much of anything.

Ten Out of Ten Weapons is practically empty when you arrive to buy your kunai and shuriken,

"Wow, is that you, Kuro Nijiiroh?" The girl behind the counter quips when you approach with your purchases. "I thought that you joined the culinary field; did you find another weapons shoppe the last few years?" She sounds kind of sad.

You thank her for everything, and go back home.

Once everything is consolidated for your mission tomorrow, and after a big family dinner, which is way more peaceful than you thought it would be, you go to bed early, so you can head out early for your mission tomorrow.

Once you get up, you decide how you're actually going to go about getting to the Land of Bears.

You decide to hoof it to the Land of Bears, no matter how far away it is or how much hostile territory stands between you and it.

Saying your farewells once again to your family, and Shozun, you head out on the road, and a few miles outside of the village's gates, you sit down and take a look at your map.

There are three routes you can take, each with their own benefits and drawbacks.

>A) Take the northernmost route, over Kanabi Bridge and through the Land of Earth.
This is the slowest route, but also the least dangerous, as the Southern Land of Earth is less elevated than the center of the country, and there's plenty of places to rest. Kanabi Bridge is also a major thoroughfare, so you can pass through the Shinobi Congress quite easily.

>B) Take the central route, through the World Shinobi Congress.
This is the most direct route, but there's a high risk of running into hostile ninja, you would have to stay away from major cities, and some small villages may not be safe.

>C) Take the southernmost route, through the Land of Wind.
This is the quickest route, though the terrain is the most hazardous through the Land of Rivers, and it's rocky deserts all the way through the Land of Wind. The chance of running into enemy ninja is very low, but travel will be tough.

You want to do this as quickly as possible.

Well, as quickly as you can not taking the train to the Land of Bears, or at least the Land of Ash.

The first day passes uneventfully, and, since you've made such good time, you're already close to the border of the Land of Rivers.

You're pretty tired, and there is apparently an inn up ahead, so you could rest there.

But on the other hand, you could get through the Land of Rivers overnight, and rest once you get to the Land of Wind in the morning, traveling at night there when it isn't so brutally hot.

There's a small village about an hour's travel to the south, it has an inn you can stay at.

Sneaking up on it, you manage to step on a twig or bone of some sort, the noise of which alerts the scorpion to your presence.

You opt to bog the arthropod down with Starch Syrup, sticking it to the rocky desert floor, and checking on what it was messing with.

It was tearing apart a camel, the scene is pretty visceral.

Now that the great invertebrate is at your mercy, you run a considerable current through it, as a bug zapper does a moth.

That distraction finished, and your nose filled with an awful smell you continue on, camping as daybreak hits.

You're woken up around three in the afternoon by two people wrapped up in long robes and headscarves rummaging around your campsite. They appear to be Sand Chunin.

They spot you coming out of your tent. "You there!" The shorter one points at you, "Were you the one who killed that Sand King Scorpion last night? That's an endangered animal!"

"What are you doing in my campsite?" You ask them, wary of foreign ninja, even if they're allied. "You do know this is a violation of my property?"

"It doesn't matter if this is your property," the taller one says, "you're in our country."

"So? That doesn't give you the right to just barge in here," you answer.

"Yes, it does," he tells you, "now, we can overlook this, just pay up the fine, twenty thousand ryo."

"I didn't do anything," you tell the duo, "so I won't pay you a thing."

"That's a shame, we should probably take him in to the nearest ranger post," the short one says to the tall one.

Wasting no more time, you bog both of the Sand ninja down with your starch syrup, leaving them there until they're able to break out.

Thankfully, neither seems to know what's going on, and both struggle against the jutsu, cursing at you or brooding, until you're out of earshot.

With another night's travel under your belt, you're closing in on the border with the Land of Ash, as you notice the ground going from orange and dusty, to gray and pebbly to your right, and in the distance, you're even able to see a forest of dead trees.

However, it's not yet the time to hang north yet, as you're supposed to do that when you're directly south of the Land of Bears, and the terrain has leveled out more.

There's no shade to put your tent in today.

You set up camp in the exposed hills, sleeping away the day.

Surprisingly, you're undisturbed, though when you wake at dusk, you see a number of shadows moving at the periphery of the trees in the Land of Ashes.

That night, when you crest the last hill into the Land of Ashes, you're shocked at what you see.

A great wildfire has sprung up in the dead brush, preventing passage. The flames go for as long as you can see in either direction, and you're sure they must be very deep.

You have to go around, unless you think you're able to cut straight through the fire.

>A) Keep heading west, go into the Land of Bears via the canyon that forms the Land of Ashes' western border.

>B) Go back east, head through one of the denser portions of the Land of Ashes.

Opting not to waste too much of your stamina, you instead make a regular, half-body Chakra Avatar, and enter the forest.

Even with the protective coat of chakra, the heat is nearly unbearable, and you regularly have to shield yourself from falling boughs and push fallen logs out of the way.

You're about halfway through and already you're very tired, your avatar is even a slightly lighter color than normal, which is impressive, given the off-white color it's adopted with training.

You use your Water Encampment Wall jutsu to clear yourself a path through to the Land of Bears, where, thankfully, a river protects the scrublands there from the fire raging through the Land of Ashes.

Lying down in a particularly soft-looking patch of shrubbery, you crane your neck up.

There's a figure watching you from the other side of the river, standing amidst the fires of the dry wilderness.

Rolling over, you begin to make your way to the forest that spans most of the Land of Bears, first walking, then running, and finally using shunshin to get there.

When you turn around, the figure is gone.

Now that you're here, you check the dossier. There are four people listed on the sheet, each of them being in a village called the "Hidden Star." That's a stupid name.

>A) Head for the village right away.

Making sure that you're hidden, you set up a bedroll on a wide tree branch, catching some sleep.

When you wake up, you have a bite to eat, then head on towards the Hidden Star Village.

You still can't get over how ridiculous that sounds.

When you reach the village, you practically look it over, hell, you wouldn't have even known the small settlement was there were it not for the main road.

You wouldn't figure this as a Hidden Village, if it weren't for the sign proudly advertising the village's identity.

You seal everything but your staff, which you place across your back, into a few tags which you keep in some of your interior pockets.

You then make your way into the village.

It's around dinnertime, so you're not surprised not to see many people outside, but there's also nobody in any restaurants, or any sort of street vendors out, it's strange.

You wonder if the people listed in the dossier, Kijikon Bonin, and his associates, Yoko Maon, Hanamaru Souzo, and Otaro Takkai have anything to do with this.

There was a fifth name on the list, but someone seems to have whited it out.

Thinking about this, you notice a surprising amount of noise coming from the center of this seemingly-deserted village.

Going to the center of the village, you find a very large gathering of people, probably all the members of the village, and some additional people, gathered around a small, shrine-like building.

There's a very orderly line of people entering and leaving.

This is very odd, it's like some sort of religious ceremony, but unlike any you've ever heard of or seen.

You find where the end of the line that this crowd apparently is is, and join the mass of people entering the shrine.

After an hour of waiting in the slow moving line in, relative quiet, the person behind you taps you on the shoulder.

"Excuse me?" The light skinned girl with short green hair, addresses you, "but could you tell me how long it is to see the Saint? My father and I just got into the village, and well- we'd like to see him tonight."

"What's this about a Saint?" You ask her, turning around, "And what exactly is going on here?"

"Ah, sorry, I thought you may have worked here," she quickly apologizes, "everyone is here to see the Living Saint, it's said that they found him buried under the village's main hall when they were renovating it, he has healing powers that surpass that of ninjutsu, and there's hardly any expense and no medical risk, unlike those cells the ninja hog so greedily."

"So why are you here then? If you didn't know about the Saint?" She cocks her head with the question.

>A) You were just passing through the country and wanted to see what the commotion was about.

>B) You did know about the Saint, and was hoping he could cure your short-term memory problem.

"I was passing through the country-" you tell her, "-on my way to the Land of Iron, it's a long story."

"I see, I shouldn't have assumed," she says, rubbing the back of her head.

"I just stopped to see what the commotion here was about, the village seemed empty except for the center, which I found really odd."

"Well, that's because every day in this village, the people congregate to pray to the Saint, and even see him, if they're here in time," the girl tells you, "and it draws pilgrims in from all around because he can supposedly perform miracles."

You're tenth in line when a grey-haired younger man comes around the side of the shrine.

"We'll take ten more tonight, the rest of you will have to come back tomorrow, we're quite sorry." He addresses the line.

You hear some grumbling behind you, and the girl taps you on the shoulder,

"I'm sorry to ask you this, but could you let us go tonight? If you're just passing through it shouldn't matter too much to you, right?" She asks, looking desperate, her sickly father hanging back.

You think that it would be best to find the ringleaders behind this little hagiographic cult before moving on, you suspect that your targets may be involved with it.

You drift through the village, nonchalantly observing people's movements, and spotting some of the more important-looking people after a pretty decent amount of time observing the general populace.

The grey-haired young man from last night, along with a busty woman with oddly shiny, two-tone hair meet up in one of the more expensive dango shops in the village for lunch, and then head together for a tower near the shrine, the tallest structure in the village.

Listening in on their conversation, only one exchange leaps out at you.

"When do you think that Kijikon will be ready?" The busty woman asks the younger man.

"Two weeks at the most I would guess, then we'll give this place a real sense of pride." He replies.

The woman laughs, "I wonder how the World Congress'll feel about this, another Kage on their borders."

The man nods, a grin on his face, "Right, to our Hoshikag!"

When they enter the building, leaving you perched on a nearby roof, the conversation is enough to confound you thoroughly, how would this nowhere of a village have a kage?

>It's not the cliffhanger I wanted, but it's good enough. Can Kuro stop this conspiracy? Has he gotten over his head? What does a Saint have to do with this? Find out next time of Future Naruto Quest. Future Naruto Quest will return sometime soon, this weekend probably.
