>Welcome and thanks for joining in!, this is story-driven quest, in which you take the role of Rob Corwin, the lord of the city of Westfall, the kingdoms are at the verge of an unification war, and your king has just died, leaving his only male son and heir, a 12 years old boy, as the new king, your actions will weight heavily on the welfare of the kingdom.>Some crucial decisions will require 1d100 rolls, 0-10 beign critical failure, 11-45 failure, 46-65 mostly no effect, 66-89 success and 90-100 mayor success, an average of the first roll of all players will be accounted .>There'll be a little bit of civ-like administration of your holdings, making you able to increase income and power, but it'll be a minor thing, this is mostly story-driven.>It's highly recommended to read the pastebin about notable characters and the brief story of the kingdoms.>I'm not a native english speaker, thus you may encounter several grammatical errors, be advised.>I used to be QM of "council" quests using hexographer, If you enjoyed them, you'll enjoy this one.>MAP of the kingdoms: https://ibb.co/nhpN8F>MAP of Bessia: https://ibb.co/cYDh8F>PASTEBIN (Includes Characters and their portraits, historic and geographical info) : https://pastebin.com/zwmL6HcN>Quest Start:-Is it true what they say about queen Eleanor, Rob?- Asks your little sister.-What is it they say, Adelaide?-I've heard she's the most beautifull woman in the whole kingdom!- Her words are marked by enthusiasm.-Well, there're many women in the kingdom darling, and I haven't seen them all, but yes, she's rather beautifull, you'll see her shortly.-Yeah, I also heard that her dresses are the best you can find, well, any dress from the capital is prettier than the ones back in Westfall, do you think mother will buy me one?-That depends on how well you behave, today's an important day.Your sister nods at you, with a wide smile on her face. It's been almost a week of traveling, and you're just about to reach Totus, the capital of the kingdom, accompanied by most of your court, including your family, servants, and bunch of minor lords, you're all there to attend the king's funeral. You are the yet unmarried count of Westfall, the older son of Adeamar and Dorothy, you have two little sisters and a brother. It's been five years since the last time you met the king, you remember him on your father's funeral, he was one of the few carrying the coffin, after the funeral he told you that he'll be there for anything that you, or your family, need. You pass through the gates of the capital and by the main street towards the castle, once there you are received by the Queen, who greets you and your family.(Continues)
-Rob, is it good to see you here. -Says the queen, as you kneel before her, her voice denotes sadness.-I'm sorry for your loss my lady, King Cedric was a great man, and a just ruler. -You stand up, straight.-Sure he was.- Replies as she walks closer to you, and placing her hand on your shoulder as she adds -Now is the time to mourn the great man he was, but there's an urgent matter I must discuss with you after the funeral, in private.-Sure my lady.Your family proceeds to settle in the guest rooms, after that, in the afternoon, you all attend to the funeral. The coffins closed, it's been a week since the king died and today's the last day of mourn, the higher families are closer to the coffin, while minor lords and ladies stand in the back, you and your family are granted to be in the first row as the priest conducts the ceremony. After that the coffin's carried through the streets towards the port, the citiziens of Totus gather in the streets, throwing red, pink and white roses along the path. Once you reach the port, the coffin's placed on a small boat, filled with gold and flowers, and pushed to the sea, as the boat gets a few yards away, and the royal choir signs a beautifull song, a marksman lits his arrow on fire and shoots. The arrow hits the coffin on the boat, which starts burning as it gets further into the sea.You all return to the castle, that night there's a dinner in the great hall to commemorate the King, all the kingdom's great families are there, including, Lady Ellyn of House Garret, rulers of Vrison. You and Lady Ellyn have always got along very well, and her beauty, Oh, you really know about her beauty, she always fancied you.A couple hours after the banquet the great hall is filled by conversations between old friends and distant relatives, you see Lord Tybalt and his daughter, Ellyn, coming towards you.-Rob Corwin himself! you've grown older, and stronger since the last time we met, kid.- Says Lord Tybalt, with a smile in his face as he grabs your arm.-It's nice to see you again, Rob.- Adds Ellyn. How do you reply?:>Lord Tybalt! You fat old man, it's good to see you! (Friendly)>Lady Ellyn, you're as beautifull as always.(Flirty, but formal)>I'm glad to find the Garrets here! (Formal)
>>1502839>I'm glad to find the Garrets here! (Formal)We're a Lord. We shouldn't be too informal or flirty. Have to show everyone (enemies and allies alike), that we're a noble among nobles.Still looking over the maps and pastebin, looks extensive. Thank you!
>>1502844-I'm glad to find the Garrets here! -You choose to reply formally to the Lord.-And I'm glad to find you here too, although It's not a rather pleasant occasion, what a great man King Cedric was, everybody knew how close he was to your family.-Indeed he was. -You reply as you hand him a cup of wine from the table, and you grab yours- Let's make a toast for him, and the kingdom.-For the king, and the kingdom!- Tybalt raises his cup.You both raise your cup up and proceed to drink.-If you pardon me, my lord. -Lord Tybalt adds- I should greet your mother, we have a few old stories to remember together!"Of course" you say as Lord Tybalt walks away, Lady Ellyn comes closer with a little smile on her face.-It seems little Rob has turned into a formidable ruler, I hope you didn't become as serious and boring as most high Lords, didn't you?>Well, being a lord brings a lot of responsabilities.>I'm the same as always, Elyyn, haven't changed a bit.>Boring? Me? You should know me better, Ely.
>>1502844((Thanks to you for joining in!))
>>1502863>>Boring? Me? You should know me better, Ely.''I just learned to draw the line between private and official matters due to some responsibilities as a Count. During free time i'm still the same. Why don't you visit more often?''
>>1502863>Boring? Me? You should know me better, Ely.
>>1502878-Boring? Me? You should know me better Ely, I just learned to draw the line between private and official matters due to some responsibilities as a Count. During free time i'm still the same. Why don't you visit more often?- You explain.-Ah, that's nice to hear, I would miss the old Rob that used to made me laugh in the gardens of Westfall when we were just children -She replies- And about visiting you, we'll see, I'm finishing my studies with the court's Physician, I've been really busy lately. You notice the queen holding a stare at you right before standing up from her seat and leaving the hall, both you and Ellyn continue talking for a while, until a young servant brings you a note."Come see me at my bedchamber."It's clearly the queen, you say goodbye to Ellyn and start walking out of the hall, but before you reach the doors, Duke Gilbert, your liege, stops you.-Robbie, here you are, I've been looking for you boy.Lord Gilbert, duke of Bryl and count of Tendalle, an old, fat and disgusting man, he's not at all as his father once was.-There's a matter we shall discuss, It's about your tribute, I've heard Westfall is getting pretty rich with all the trade going on, so the duchy should have a bigger cut of the cake, you know for patrols and stuff. It's true that Westfall is growing richer, but it's also true that your tribute has been already rised conciderably last year. Also, you were planning to use that money to invest in a better fleet for the city, but Gilbert is a wroth, authoritative man that would take a negative answer as an insult.>"You shall have your coins, Gilbert." (Resign improving fleet)>"I must decline, Gilbert, the city needs this money." (Challenge your liege)>"This is not the time for this, I've an urgent matter to resolve, sir."
>>1502889>>"I must decline, Gilbert, the city needs this money." (Challenge your liege)
>>1502889>My liege, this is not the right occasion to discuss this since we are at a funeral of his majesty the King. I shall report to you straight away after the matter is settled here so we can discuss this in detail.
>>1502889>>"You shall have your coins, Gilbert." (Resign improving fleet)We better have a great financial adviser. And those additional taxes better be used to protect our commerce and merchants.Maybe we can have a monopoly on certain trades in the duchy?>>1502893Can we decline our liege's demands though? Is it like ck2, where they don't have much power besides getting military service. Or can he open a market next door to make us suffer lower tax income?
>>1502896Good idea too.Though maybe the only real solution is for our duke to have an "accident" - a deadly one.
>>1502897((You can challenge you liege in minor things like this, though your liege may enforce penalties on you, declining more important demands may end up bringing the crown attention to the matter (Most of times enforcing the liege authority) ))
>>1502897We can at least try to negotiate the price downwards.Keep precise accounts and the like.Or throw him of with (fake)reports of pirates we need to deal with so we can't spare the money needed for our fleet.
>>1502896>>1502897Okay, I'm counting 2 votes on avoiding the negociation for now, I'm going to wait for a few minutes more though.>>1502900Good idea, as soon as we return to Westfall, we can make plans and such, this "feast" is like an introduction to the quest
>>1502901Any chance, we can have Westfall become a Free City directly under the Crown's authority?>>1502904Yes! Have our ledgers show a bad harvest, pirates, price hikes, lower than expected taxes! Maybe the duke can give us money instead - for our pirate defense fleet.
>>1502907Or invite the Duke to a feast at our place only to have ''Pirates'' burst in, take him hostage and kill him afte you ''heroically'' attempted to ''save'' him.
>>1502907You can tell the queen about your conflicts with the duke, and ask about being a free county.Okay, we'll lie about the economic situation of Westfall to the duke for now. writing in five minutes
>>1502909-My liege, this is not the right occasion to discuss this since we are at a funeral of his majesty the King. I shall report to you straight away after the matter is settled here so we can discuss this in detail, but something I can tell you now, is that Westfall's situation is not as good as you believe, we've been dealing with pirates, bad harvesting and lower taxes than the last years.-You speak with confidence, as Gilbert hears you with a cup of wine in one hand, a drumstick chicken in the other.-Alright, I'll ask my contacts in Westfall to send me another report, you better be telling the truth, boy. Now go wherever you gotta go.You nod at Gilbert as you continue you path towards the queen's bedchamber, there are two fully armed guards in the door, they let you pass without asking anything. As you walk into the chamber, to find the queen standing next to a window, looking outside, she turns to you as you walked in.-I've seen your smile when you saw Ellyn, she's a good woman Rob, It's not a secret that the two of you get along pretty well, that's nice.-Thank you my lady.- You answer.-Do you know how King Cedric died?- The queen asks as she reaches for a cup a bottle of red wine, and pours it.-The fever took him.- You reply-Yes, fever.- She takes a sip from the cup -Fever caused by poison.-Poison?- You ask surprised.-Yes, and the man that poisoned him was his servant for the last twelve years, Cedric never mistreated him, they even shared the same table on their meals, have you ever heard of a lord sharing a table with their servant, Rob?-No, but it doesn't surprises me coming from Cedric, he was kind my lady.- You say.-And trusting, sadly. The queen turns back to the window, as she takes another sip from the cup.-The servent was either bribed or threatened by the spies of King Darius, and I fear my son will share his father's fate, Totus' not safe for him, I've been thinking of sending him to my father's court, in Liria, but Darius' spies are surely there too, I don't trust anyone, but you're the living image of your father, Rob, and if there's anyone I could trust, is your family.-You're right trusting me my lady, my family is in debt with you, the King did a lot for my father when he was lord of Westfall.(continues)
>>1502924-Well, after today, it will be the other way around, we'll be in debt with your house. I need you Rob, I need you to take my son, Peter, the king, to Westfall, disguised as a servant, take care of him and be sure that noone knows he's the heir to the kingdom, Darius wants him dead, with no heir to the throne of Bessia, civil war will burst and he'll be able to conquer us, he's waiting for us to get weaker, I'm the queen regent until Peter's old enough, but if he's dead, there'll be no legitimate queen nor king. You do not know how hard is this for me, and how much I love him. Would you help me with this? You're surprised by the queen's decision, you knew she trust you, but you never imagined this much, the queen is kind and humble, but also cunning and inteligent, that makes her a great ruler, Darius on the other hand is wroth and ruthless, it is in your well-being, and of all the kingdom, that the queen Eleanor stays in the throne.-You must understand that Darius will do anything to find, and kill my son, even though I doubt he'll imagine I'm sending Peter to Westfall, any man that gives any clues on my son's whereabouts will be rich, so be really carefull who you trust.- She takes another sip of the cup before placing it back on the table, and walks closer to you. -My son will be dressed as a servant, I doubt anyone in Westfall could recognize him leaving aside your family and court members, but you've traveled with a bunch of minor lords that know him, so you'll have to travel back to Westfall without them, make an excuse to leave tonight with a couple of guards and servants, the rest of your court can stay a little longer.-Yes my lady, I promise to take care of the King, with my life if it's necessary.-I know you will, now you must inform your family about your departure, be discreet.>Leave the bedchamber, inform your family about your departure.>Manifest your conflicts with Duke Gilbert.>Ask something else. (Write in)
>>1502926>>Leave the bedchamber, inform your family about your departure.

>>1502926>>Manifest your conflicts with Duke Gilbert.
>>1502928>>1502931You realize it's not the proper time to talk about the duke with the queen, so you make a reverence to her.-I'll start the preparations to depart right away.- You say.-Alright, my son will be disguised and ready to leave tonight, he'll be sent to your chamber as your new servant by one of the few guards that doesn't know his face. You turn around and step towards the door, as you grab the handle, you hear the queen giving you some final words."Thank you, Rob"You inform your family that your presence was requested back in Westfall, your siblings do not ask much, but your mother seems rather suspicious about your sudden departure.-"Are you sure Josef can't handle a few more days until we all come back?"- She asks you.Josef, your steward, stayed in charge of the county until you come back. How do you answer?:>You know those greedy merchants, they always find something to complain about, they would eat Josef alive if I don't rescue him. (Evasive Approach)>There've been several reports of bandit attacks in the roads, our marshall needs a hand to handle this. Mother told me you'll be the only one that knows who I am."-"Yes, my king, I will, but you must be really careful not to tell anyone who you are, and where you come from."-"I know, will I ever see mother again? I don't want her to be poisoned too."- By the tone of his voice, you notice he's about to cry.-"Peter"- You say as you get closer to the boy. -"I don't know anyone smarter than your mother, she really knows how to take care of her, but you need to stay strong, okay?"Peter nods, then stares down as he answers.-"I will."Moments later you find yourself leaving the city, accompanied by around twenty guards and thirteen servants, including the king. It's been a few days since you left Totus, the party is just one day away from Westfall, but the night arrived and you decide to lift a camp, all these days you kept Peter by your side to avoid any guard giving him orders. As you go out of your tent to piss in a tree close by, you noticed one of the guards built a fire in the middle of the camp, he sat there to keep himself warm while he guards the camp, as you come back from the woods, you stop to have a small, casual talk with another guard, but after that, when you came to your tent, you saw the guard by the fire talking to the King."You worthless little piece of shit, where the fuck did you learn to shoeshine, you're just messing 'em up!" The guard slaps the boy as he finishes the sentence. You rush to intervene, but before you could say a word, Peter stands straight and answers.-"Enough! I am King Peter of House Fenwick, you better apologize right now."- Peter seems furious. The guard smiles for an instant, but then he recognizes the king and his face turns pale.-"I... I... didn't imagined..."- He clearly doesn't knows what to say, you reach the scene. The guard looks at you astonished, and Peter turned his fury to regret, he messed up.It seems noone else has seen the nor hear what was happening, how do you react?>"I know you're a man to trust, and you'll keep this secret with your life.">"If you speak to anyone, ever, about this, you and your family will be killed in the worst way possible."> Kill him straight away.

YOU WERE SENT WITH ME FOR TRAINING IN ETIQUETTE NOT TO BOSS MY KNIGHTS AROUND!"The young king turns around and runs towards the servants' tent. The guard was even paler now, looking at you without saying a word.-"The royal family entrusted me with raising a few personal retainers for our King."- You explain -"This has to remain secret. If you leak this information you'll be loosing your head."The guard nods at you quickly, physical aggression of a king is commonly punished by beheading.-"My lord, I didn't know, thank you for sparing my life."You walk towards your tent to rest. The next morning you continue the journey, the guard would barely say any word, he kept more distance from the other guards than usual, avoiding talks. The king wouldn't look at you for the rest of the trip, even if he knew he messed up, he though your reaction was a too much, it might have been, but you're sure he learned the lesson.By the afternoon you reached Westfall's walls, once inside, and before reaching the court, it's time to decide the king's destination:>He'll serve in the court as a common servant. (He'll safe and close to you, but with the highest risk of being recognized)>He'll be sent as a servant to a local merchant. >>1504195>>A)Totus, our capital.>Send a letter to the queen to interfere on your behalf.
You sent a letter to the queen, explaining the unfair request your liege made, after a few days, you receive an answer."To Lord Rob Corwin, ruler of Westfall.Rob, believe me when I tell you, I do not hate lord Gilbert less than you do, but sadly you must pay him. I'll send you six thousand golden crowns, half of his request, to help you, but you must not tell him that I did so, he must think that you're the only one paying, he must think you're a loyal vassal, and make him happy, atleast for now. I would like to send you all the money, but lately the crown's been investing heavily in soldiers and fortifications, there's a war ahead. Is this unfair? it is, but I've known lord Gilbert for years, and If you keep pushing him, he'll ask for my interference, and If he does so, I'll be forced to defend him, even If I don't want to.Why? If I don't, all the counts of the kingdom may start challanging their lieges, turning the dukes against me, and the counts against the dukes.Right now we cannot afford that. The kingdom must be united, our enemies are waiting for us to show signs of weakness, looking for an opportunity to attack.I've already sent a group of guards with the money, I hope you understand how important it is to pay Lord Gilbert. On another topic...I hope the new servants I sent you are doing just fine, I trust you'll find the right place for them.Oh, something else, sometimes good people must do bad things, remember in these times trusting is a weakness, bad people can be bribed, good people can the threatened."<--->As you finish reading the letter, a guard steps into the room."My lord! One of the guards has been found murdered, his throat cut open while he was sleeping!"The man guides you to one of the guards' dormitories in the castle, there was already a small crowd around the corpse, as you come closer, you recognize the dead man, it's the guard that slapped the king, the weird thing is that there were several other guards sleeping in the same room, whoever did this, was a proffesional without doubt.<-->>You decide to follow Eleanor instructions, submiting to Lord Gilbert's request.>You send back the queen's money. >>1504472>>1504494I hate to do it, but I second this. We'll get our revenge on Gilbert eventually.
>>1504494>>1505142You decide to do an effort in order to keep the kingdom's stability, not only that, but you also send the money back to the queen, she'll appreciate it.A letter is sent to Duke Gilbert, accepting his demands, a few chests with a total of twelve thousands golden crowns are dispatched to Tendalle. The twelve servants that came with you from Totus are gathered, excluding the king, you question them one by one, but none of them seem to know anything about murder, or atleast that's what they say.The other guards were also questioned by the marshall, all of them were clueless.A few days passed, your family and court member returned from the capital, you receive them in the great hall, but you notice someone else, Lady Ellyn.-"Lady Ellyn! what pleasant surprise to have you here."- You say as you proceed to kiss her hand, a common custom in the nobility, she chuckles.-"Keep the formalities for someone else, Rob, no need to use them on me."-"I know, it's the habit, didn't you had books to read and things to study?"-"Yeah, but books can wait, I saw the chance to come here once again and I took it, it's been a while since I don't step in Westfall, plus I wanted to see how bad you were doing as a ruler."- She adds with humor.Your chamberlain walks towards you, interrupting the conversation.-"My lord, my lady,"- He bows, showing respect towards both of you. -"I'm sorry to bother, but your presence's required in the meeting hall my lord."-"Ah, duty calls"- Says Ellyn -"I'll be in the gardens if you need me Rob."You follow the chamberlain to the meeting hall, there you find Sir Henric and Josef in the middle of an argument.-"This is not the time to let our military down!"- Henric says -"The peasants can wait"-"They've waited for months already!"- Josef replies -"It's not like the soldiers would starve."You walk into the scene, the men turned to you.-"What is going on here?"- You asked.Sir Henric, your marshall steps forward and talks.-"Sir, our troops need better rations of food, what we're currently sending it's barely enough, many men are forced to hunt, somedays they eat, somedays they don't. This is not the way to sustain our forces!"-"But sir"- Josef, your stewards joins the conversation. -"The north bridge fell a few months ago, we schedule to repair it this month, it's one of the main trade routes of the county and the caravans are getting stuck in the mud, the peasants need that bridge back up!."-"The problem is"- The chamberlain steps in -"Due to the tribute Lord Gilbert placed on us, we don't have enough resources to carry out both the construction of the bridge, and buy better food for out men, a choice must be made.">Use available resources to repair the north bridge.>Use available resources to buy better suplies for our troops. Also, what would you do afterwards?:>Meet with Lady Ellyn at the gardens.>Visit the King.>Get a report from the spy network.

>>1505498Honest question QM. We've been in charge for awhile right? Is this our personal standing army or the army stationed in here from the royal family?
>>1505552Rob's been in charge since his father died, for 5 years.I forgot to add, half of our army is assigned to the royal commander in the borders, their supplies are given by the crown.Right now we are talking about the other half, our personal standing army, which protects the capital and the roads of the county.
>>1505579Protects Westfall and the roads of the country* (to make it clear)
>>1505579Do we have just barely enough men and women in our coat of arms or are we way over? because if we're way over why not put them into fields that need more hands? This would off-set the need for food while also ensuring the bridge is fixed until we can proper afford food for them again.
>>1505585There are no idle troops, if they're not stationed in Westfall or any minor towns, they're patrolling the road.Though we could draw some men from here and there, and send them to build the bridge, this may cause some security problems, but with no need of paying extra workers, the food rations could be paid, addressing both problems at the same time.

>>1505498>>Get a report from the spy network.
Back for another session!Pulling some troops from the roads to build the bridge and visiting the lady won, writting.
You managed to find a way to solve both problems at the same time, deciding to draw some troops from the roads and send them to build the bridge, that way the money you saved in workers can be used to buy supplies, those soldiers didn't like very much being sent from patroling to build a bridge, but it was necesary. You send a letter adressed to Gilbert, telling him that the high tribute imposed on you forced you to draw troops away from your roads, you ask him to fulfill his obligation of sending his own patrols to fill the gap.Once this matter is settled, you go to the gardens, where you find Lady Ellyn and Dorothy, your mother, talking. As mother sees you, she says goodbay to the lady and proceeds to leave the scene.-"What a nice woman your mother is"- Ellyn says as you reach her.-"Good to see you're getting along, mind for a walk?"The lady nods at you and you walk together through the gardens.-"Oh! I remember that Oak-tree"- She points out -"I remember we used to climb it, but you were afraid of heights and never made it half way to the top!"- She laughs.-"Except one day"- You reply -"Do you remember that too?"You both stop by the tree, looking up at it, it's one of the bigger trees in the garden.-"Yes, the day Lion got stuck at the top, you went all the way up just to get him."- She replies, Lion was her childhood mascot, a cat. -"I was really surprised that day."How do you wish the conversation to unfold?:>Keep talking friendly. >>1507830Hmm, something happened here lol.Since original post was deleted, this roll will not be accounted
>>1507793>Keep talking, showing you interest on her. (Bonus +10)
Why do you want to declare love to first girl we met, in first thread?
>>1507830Going for bonus option then
>>1507793>Keep talking, showing you interest on her. (Bonus +10)Also I think according to our past bin we are thirty one. Because twenty six years after we were born our father died, then five years after that the king died.
>>1507844Rob likes her, but of course if we want to stay friendly there would be other options. Also marrying her would forge an alliance with her house, specially his father, a lord.
>>1507850I wasn't asking you, also you should call for roll/s after vote.
>>1507848I was hoping nobody noticed that >_<We're 24, father died when Rob was 19.

>>1507868You both have had a cordial relation all your life, her father and yours were friends so you were used to have her in your court as a visitor. We could seek marriage oportunities with house Montfort, lords of Liria, the Queen's house.House Fenwick, the King's house, does not has any suitable candidates to marry yet.Lord Gilbert of House Trent has a daughter which you could marry, IF Gilbert agrees to, this would cause him to treat you differently. And well, lady Ellyn of House Garret. In the next quest update, I'll add the option to send emissaries to seek for posible marriage ties.

You choose not to rush on her, although you try your best to let her know how much you appreciate her, time flies as you remember stories of your childhood together, this was a pleasant occasion, for both. (Accumulated bonus +20)A few more days passed, Lady Ellyn has to return to her court and so she departs, you visit the King a once in a while, he seems to start getting along with the blacksmith and shows interest in the craft. One day, your uncle, Lord Commander Richard, appears in your court, he's been garrisoned in the northern border for a few years, he's one of the highest commanding officers of the Royal Army. You receibe him with hug.-"Rob, it's been a while huh'?"-"It does, I'm glad to see you well, what brings you here uncle?"-"Well, the queen authorized me to have a free week to visit my relatives, but I also have a proposal to make. When you were eleven, or ten years old, I took you for a season to the border, to stay with me in Fort Highrock, remember?"-"Yeah, it was great, all the soldiers, the armours, the fort itself, I remember stealing a sword from the weaponry and play to be knight."-"Well, I'd ask your permison to take your brother with me, Edward, he's fifteen years old already, it'll be good for him to know more about the military, I might even take him to know Rivermouth.">Allow him to take your brother.>Your brother stays in the court.<----->The spy network in Westfall has succesfully settled, they bring you your first report. There are a few notable characters in the city that we could visit to strengthen our position, turning them into our allies and/or informants. The Merchant's Guild Grandmaster, Gerald, son of Gervas, he's a lowborn and as such he doesn't has a lastname, he holds a merchant company and has over twelve ships of his own, and a mercenary company with around 300 men.Bishop Thaddeus, the highest religious representative in the city, he's been visiting the city's brothels with regularity lately, he's a corrupt man that handles rather considerable ammounts of money collected by the church in the county. There might be spies from the Queen in the city, she's known to have her agents scattered all around the kingdoms, both with her allies and enemies. We have located Lord Gilbert's informants, they could be easily killedYet, we have no clue who killed the guard in the castle.<----->>We shall visit the Merchant.>We shall visit the Priest.>We should kill Gilbert's informants. Also, we've sent emissaries across the kingdom to seek possible marriage Anything else you wish to do? >>1512287Ah my bad then. Can't we send a message to the spy master though?
-"Of course uncle, it'll good for him to learn more about the military."-"Yeah, that's what I though, I'll go to speak with him, see you in the dinner, Rob."Your uncle pats you on your shoulder as he walks away from the room. You decide to have a talk with the merchant, so you leave your court, escorted by two guards you walk through the streets of Westfall, drawing attention from common folk. Finally you reach the Merchant's warehouse, you've been told that he spends most of his time in his office, inside the warehouse. You step in, asking for Gerald. The building's full of boxes and sacks, one of the workers guides you to the second floor, to the office, you knock on the door, which is opened a moment later by tall, gray haired man, he's probably in his fifties. You order your men to stay outside as you step in and sit on a chair infront Gerald's desk.-"It's been a while since a lord visits my office, may I offer you a cup of wine?"- Gerald asks as he reaches for a bottle.-"I'm fine, so you've been visited by a nobleman before?"- You reply.-"Ye', some minor lords asking for monetary help, loans, most of them third or fourthborn sons of some decadent high lord, but never anyone as important as you my lord."- He explains -"I'm curious, what brings you here?"- The man pours some wine into a cup made of silver, with a few golden details.-"A lord must be close to the people, and that includes you. I've heard you're an important member of the comunity, so I'm here to assure your loyalty to me."-"Ah, so you're here for an alliance."- He says right before taking a sip of wine -"You know, we merchants try not to interfere with the nobility, it tends to be bad for the business."-"It tends to be bad for the business when you make deals with the wrong families, but I've heard you're a smart man, you must know how close my house is to the royal family."- You say with confidence, trying to persuade the man, but Gerald is known to be as stubborn as a mule.He chuckles-"You mean the queen, King Cedric's dead and the heir's hiding in some cave in the middle who-knows-where."-"Do you question the power of the queen, Gerald?"Gerald looks at the sea through the office's window, making a short pause before answering,-"Noone does, my lord, the queen is even stronger than what Cedric once was, but Totus' filled with enemy spies trying to kill her, who knows how much she'll last."- He said.-"The queen's a cunning, careful person, besides wasn't taking risks what took you to the position you're in today? Expressing your support to me, and the queen, could be beneficial for both of us."-"It might be, but I need something more than words, what are you actually asking for?"(Choose 2, in exchange he'll ask something from you):>In case of war, I need you mercenary company to fight for me. I've heard... a lot about you, as you may know, our kingdom is being threatened by the northerns, a war is coming, and I'm here to secure your loyalty to me and the queen, If we go to war, I'd like to have some of your resources available."Thaddeus' face revealed disappointment as you said the last sentence.-"You mean, the church's resources, not mine."-"Well, it is known that most of what the church gathers in the county stays in the county, and you're the one deciding how those resources are assigned, am I right?"-"Indeed, but that money is used to help spreading the words of the Maker among the folks, not to pay a bunch of soldiers."Thaddeus' a greedy man, he might spend hundreds of coins in orgies, servants and feasts, but when it comes to help the realm, it's hard to take a coin from him.>Try persuading him, he's stubborn but might bring him to reason.>Try threatening, if he might be a coward and surrender to intimidation.>We don't need your help.>Alright, keep your fucking money for your whores.
>>1513994>>We don't need your help.
>>1513994>Ay, but the Markers job is to ensure common man is protected from threats outside and in. -"Ay, but Maker's will is to ensure common man is protected from threats outside and in. Should't the Church then be expected to aid the common folk and even dare I say, show them the path of rightoutness and that faith protects?"Thaddeus, resigned, sighed.-"I guess you're right, in the end we're all in the same boat, I can't give you much money though, but I'll send you enough to buy better equipment for most of your troops, but only if you promise me to let the queen know about my benevolence, and how glad you're having me as High Priest of Westfall. (-1000 footmen, +1000 Heavy infantry.)>I promise to speak well of you to queen.>That wouldn't be possible, there must be something else.>In fact, your behavior has been unacceptable, you're a lustful man, you're lucky I haven't kicked you off from your office, I'll take your money, and you'll keep your title, and that's all (Try Intimidation)

Perhaps it will remind you why you became a priest in the first place."-"I AM a man of god, you assumptions are nothing but an insult to me!"-"It is not my intention to insult you, but man of god spends his time in the temple, not the brothel."The priest opens his mouth, but he finds no words to answer, so you proceed to continue speaking.-"I won't punish you, nor spread this information to anyone, but you must change, for once and for good. The feast will take place in a couple weeks, that's how much time I'm giving you."-"I... I will my lord, but promise you'll keep this between us.""Between us" you think, like if the whole city wouldn't know about it.-"Of course, and once you amend yourself, I'll glad to speak well of you."- You push yourself up from your chair. -"That's all for now, the Sir Henric will be waiting for your donations."You go back to the court.<---->A couple days passed, your brother and uncle departed towards the Highrock fortress in the north. You recibed a letter from the capital, it's got the Queen's seal."To Lord Rob Corwin, ruler of Westfall and the surrounding lands.Regarding your petition to establish a trade route with the Kingdom of the seas, Albia, you have my blessing. My men have brought back the money I sent you, such gesture proves once again that you are an honorable man, I will not forget this.-Lady Eleanor."Having nothing but minor tasks to do in your court, you decide it is time to sail southwest, to the Coldwaters Archipelago, in the company of a few guards and sailors. After a whole day you finally arrived. As the queen mentioned, Albia is know as the "Kingdom of the Seas", they have no capital, and the cities of the kingdom are scattered in a few islands, far away from each other. Albia was once part of the Empire, but after the "Two Emperors" war, they declared themselves an independent kingdom, and remainded neutral in every conflict on the mainlands. After stating who you are, you're received in the Lord's court, by Lord Svart.-"It's been ages since a saw a Corwin, you're Adeamar's son, ain't ya'?"- Svart's an one eyed warrior, his face and body are drawn by battle scars.-"Indeed my lord, and you should be Svart, your hability with the axe is widely known across the kingdoms, it's a pleasure to meet you."-"Yeah, I've also heard of you lately, your liege's Gilbert Trent, am I right?"-"Yes, you know him?"(Cont)
>>1515279Svert chuckles with a smile on his face and stands up from his seat in order to pull out a sword.-"He came a few days ago, asking for some favors, and gave me this gift."- The man holds the long sword up, you notice the whole handle is made of pure gold. -"I asked him how much gold coins had to be melt to make this beautiful piece of art, he didn't know, told me that he has so much extra money taken from his vassal, that he didn't even knew what to do with it."That fucking bastard, he wasn't pushing the tribute on you just for the money, but rather to have you controled, to be sure that you wouldn't grow stronger than him.-"Gilbert and I have had some conflicts in the past, but he's still my liege and I... answer to him."-"I'd killed him already if I'd be you, but anyways, what brings you here?"-"I come here to ask you for an authorization for one of my merchants to trade freely in your lands."-"Ahh, yes I think I remember him, I didn't even considered his request in the past, what makes you think I changed my mind?"-"Well, I'm here to negotiate, we could reach an agreement beneficial for both of us."-"Beneficial for both of us? Hah'! Do you know how I lost my eye? Fighting fuckin' pirates, for the last fifty years, Albia fought against the pirates, alone, not even once you mainlanders sent us men, boats, or even a penny, but fuck me if this wasn't beneficial for you, you're all richer than ever thanks to sea trade, but it is our graveyards that grew bigger, not yours, I think you're in debt with us, and I will not keep making your treasuries bigger until you bleed for us, like we did for you.">"I cannot answer for the mistakes of those before me, and there's no way to repay fifty years of war, but don't let the past hold you back, my lord, for a better future awaits us if we work together." >"Not only our treasury grew, but also our army, I have the royal army and the Queen on my side, you better have me as your ally rather than your enemy, Svert, Albian are great warriors, but not many."
>>1515298I've taken long cuz cooking and shit

What do you say?"Svert sits back in his throne, analyzing your proposal, after a few seconds, he shakes his head from side to side.-"My men will not respect mainlanders fighting with them, besides the pirates are no longer the threat they used to be, there's nothing you could offer me that..."- Suddenly, he makes a short pause, you can tell by the look of his eyes that he just had an idea -"I know what you could do for me, take my twenty years old bastard, Sigmund, to your court, let him be a squire for your marshall, I want him living in your court and be taught about the military tricks and tactics of you, the mainlanders, you either accept, or go back."You can not know for sure the reason behind this, Svern could ask for a lot of things, but this is rather odd.>Deal>No DealAlso:>Ask him about Gilbert's visit, what did he want?>Lurking might anger him, don't do it.

I've got a lil' warnin' for you aswell, if anything happens to my son, I'll consider it a formal declaration of war."-"You shall not worry, he'll safe in Westfall, one more thing, what brought Gilbert here?"-"The fat cunt? he just wanted to rent a couple of my ships, he overpaid me, with your money of course, didn't wanted me asking many questions though."A few hours later, you were back on your ship, returning to Westfall, Sigmund spent most of the trip arguing with one of your sailor about how better, and faster, Albian ships are.The winds have favored you, and by the next morning the ship is already docked in Westfall, you inform Gerald that he's now authorized to expand his business towards Utland. (Espionage Network established in the capital, +300 men available for you army)You'll receive your first report from the capital soon.Sigmund was given a room close to the barracks, where squires normally live, he'll be the marshall's assistant from now on, though Sir Henric wouldn't trust him at all.The feast will be in one week and a half, and so the tournament, you could train to participate if you want to.>Yes, I'll train for Jousting.>Yes, I'll train for sword fighting.>No, I'll find something else to do. It seems our plan to turn Gilbert's informants against him didn't work out, our agents though the best way to carry it out was through intimidation, but it only scare them away, we don't know if they went back to Tendalle or just hiding somewhere in our city, but all contact was lost. You write a letter to the queen, informing her about Gilbert's deal with the Albians. You decide to participate in the discipline that you handle best, sword fighting, from now, and until the trounment begins, you'll train every afternoon with Sir Henric, to sharpen your skills.Days passed and it's time to attend Gilbert's court, the first two days are the tournament days, and the third is the great feast, you and your family leave Westfall joined by several guards and servants. You all arrived a day before the start of the tournamnet, there are a few high families in the city already, and throughout the day more would arrive. You spend most of the day talking to minor nobles and distant relatives, neither the queen nor anyone relevant has yet arrived. The next morning you wake up with the sunrise, you prepare yourself for your first duel against Lord Bernard, a minor lord from the city of Ghoulcrest. The time has come, a great crowd gathers to watch the men fight for glory, as it's common in this kind of non-deadly tournament, both participants use blunted swords, a shield and light armor of their choice. The crowd cheers you as the duel begins.(get 'em dices rollin)

Lord Bernard's quick enough and places his sword by your neck, making him the winner of this round. The crowd cheers the winning of the duel, moments later you and him are sharing a meal, and joking around.Another day passed, a few more families arrived to the city, and several warrior fought in the tournament, but only one emerged victorious, Sir Robin Montfort, the queen's cousin and marshall of Liria won the grand prize. It's finally the feast day, you, your sisters and mother, assist to the great hall, the place's full of people talking with each other, there are a few troubadours singing their best songs, but the feast hasn't started yet, it's an oportunity to meet with someone.>Speak with Lady Ellyn.>Speak with Lord Tybalt.>Speak with Lord Gilbert.>Speak with Queen Eleanor.>Wait along your family until the feast begins.

I've been told you were given a beating at the tournamet."-"Nah', it was just the sun on my face, If wouldn't be for that I would have certainly won."-"Hah' yes, I got you, how's everything in Westfall?"You and Lord Tybalt spend a couple minutes talking about the holdings and some minor issues you're facing, Vrison, Tybalt's county, it's know to be one of the largest iron producers of the kingdom, he's got a lot of armor and weaponry in stock, you managed to seal a very good deal, in which he'll sell that stock to you for a considerably lower price. (-200 light cavalry, +200 heavy cavalry, -500 light infantry, +500 heavy infantry.)The feast's about to begin as the court servants start bringing many different dishes to the tables, the lords and ladies find their seats and you return to your family, after a couple minutes, when everyone's in their seats, Lord Gilbert stands up, straight, and holding up a cup of wine, he says:-"We're all here together to celebrate yet another year, honoured with the Queen Eleanor's presence, for whom we'll make a toast shortly."- He signals with his cup towards the Queen as he mentions her. -"And of course the tournament's champion, who proved to be one of the bravest warriors of the realm, Sir Robin Montfort, an applause for him!"- The guests clap their hands, as Sir Robin nods, with a smile on his face. -"May the Maker's blessing be with us, the Queen, the King, and whole kingdom, for this to be a prosperous, peaceful new year. To Bessia!"- He says, raising his cup up before taking a long sip from it. "For Bessia" the crowd answers. The dinner goes along, you talk with a few minor lords that were sitting around you, some of them tell you stories about your father, others about your uncle, after sometime, your little sister, Adelaide, leaves the table and joins the other kids that were playing in a corner of the great hall, your other sister, Thea, seems to be submerged in a talk with a young gentleman besides her. It seems the dinner's about to end, when you noticed that atleast twenty royal guards came into the great hall, but that wasn't all of them, another twenty followed them, by that time the whole crowd noticed the precense of the soldier, suddenly silence reigned the room, Gilbert stood up as the soldiers, with their shining armor, surrounded the hall.-"What's the meaning of this!"- Lord Gilbert seems furious. The Queen stands up from her seat, holding her cup.-"Well, Lord Gilbert, it seems there's a dangerous enemy to the crown in this room."(cont)
>>1517125-"What are you talking about, my queen."She takes a sip of wine from the cup, and places it on the table, right before ordering: "Soldiers, fetch the traitor."In that moment two of the royal guards grabbed Lord Gilbert from his arms, he tried to resist "What are you doing?" "This is a mistake" were some of the things he said as he was dragged before the queen, she stood up, and look down at Gilbert who was on his knees.-"This man over here"- She said raising her voice, almost shouting as she took a look around the room, speaking to all the guests. -"Has been forcing House Fenwick to pay extraordinary tributes, only to send the gold northwards, to our enemies."The crowd starts whispering, some men shout "Traitor", but the queen has yet more say.-"But not only gold he sent, but also information about our forces, some of his agents were captured trying to cross the borders disguised as mere merchants, but they were recognized, and questioned, after that we found letters, that even if he used code words, they're heavily incriminating. These actions cannot be forgiven."- Eleanor turns his head back to Gilbert, staring directly at his eyes. -"Lord Gilbert of House Trent, I sentence you to death."The whole crowd starts talking, some whispering other insulting the man, his daughter cries as she hugs her mother."I knew that fuckin' prick couldn't be trusted" Says one of the nobles sitting besides you as the guards drag the fat man out of the room, proceeding to take him to a cell, the feast is over.Moments later, the guests are preparing themselves to leave the city, you receive a note from the queen asking for your presence in her bedchamber, you don't make her wait. There are many guards in the way to her room, all of them let you pass through freely. You step into the her room.-"I received your letter."- She says -"I already knew about this deal he made with Svert, but I had to have more proofs, after we intercepted their agents in their borders, and their information matched my informant's reports, he was already a dead man.">A great job my Lady, and a fair sentence for a traitor.>Who's gonna have his holdings now, my Lady?

He has threatened to declare war if any harm comes to him. What shall be done about this?"-"I see..."- She said just before making a short pause to analyze the situation" -"Albians are...impulsive people, and lovers of splashing blood with their steel, you must be careful dealing with them, first off, make sure Sigurd's safe enough, but watch him, King Darius could have a deal with Svert, they could be our enemies, and having an enemy on your court is dangerous. You said Sigurd's your marshall's squire, that means that you could send your Marshall away from your court and Sigurd would have to leave aswell, maybe send him to patrol the roads, or to establish in some fortress would do, but it's up to you."-"Thanks for your advice, I'll keep it in mind."-""Of course."- She nods before adding -"There's also an important matter to adress now that Gilbert's gonna be excecuted, as you know, the county of Tendalle has been on the Trent family for centuries, and I cannot change that just because there was a black sheep in the family, but to prevent future conflicts, the county won't be passed to Gilbert's direct heir, but to his cousin, Lord Ethan Trent, I know Ethan and he's nothing alike Gilbert. Concerning the dukedom of Bryl, I've taken a different decision, you've proven to be a loyal, honorable vassal, I think you'll be great duke, from now on I grant you the dukedom of Bryl, thus I'll be your direct liege, and Lord Ethan your vassal."-"You honor me, my Lady, I assure you that I'll not disapoint you."-"Of course you won't, you're free to leave now, Rob, Duke of Bryl.">Send your Marshall and Sigurd to patrol the roads.>Send them to be garrisoned in a fortress nearby.>Keep them in your court, your Marshall needs to keep overseeing the troops training in Westfall."((Alright, I just woke up so I'll be all night, I'm preparing the new pastebin to make a new thread which will take place a year after these events))
>>1523074>Send them to be garrisoned in a fortress nearby. This is the safest option. They might try to have the son killed, and this gives us the least direct responsibility for it. Also, since we're Duke now, we can send troops between the castles and keep them all trained.
>>1523074I would consider moving to anonkun, qst blows and is just too slow. I notice people only circle jerk certain quests, nobody gives chances anymore. Your quest is rather unconventional and has a lot of potential, in my opinion.
>>1523249Thanks! I never heard of anonkun though, I'll have a look at it.I'm rather used to 4chan, so I'll keep it here for now, but if next thread doesn't brings new players, I'll move it there. Also fnished updating the pastebin, making a new thread soon.
>>1523249Also, what do you think of switching to "best of two rolls" system?

>>1523271it's called fiction dot live nowadays, but I think anonkun might redirect to it but I'm not sure. It's still called anonkun for the most part, though. It was quite known during the tg days, but when they made qst a bunch of newfags came to quests and a lot of tg guise totally left for anonkun. >>1523273Usually it's best of three, but best of two gives less chance of failure, though less chance of success as well. Try it and see how it goes.
>>1523273Personally I prefer systems that aren't averages, so that works.>>1523280Unless the other missed rolls in the best of are auto-rolled, they could just be stuck to the first roll the anons like.

>>1523280>Usually it's best of three.Yep, but you know, making it best of two makes it a little bit harder.
>>1523295Right, I've seen that done before. It's not bad, though QM's usually make crits override and I've seen anons get really salty and if there's no crit override than the MC gets op really quickly.
>>1523295Yeah, but since it's "Best" roll, the increase of failure is greater than the increase in chances of success, comparing it to average rolls.
