Character info pastebin in progress: http://pastebin.com/iB0tb7rz
Dice odds for best of 3: http://pastebin.com/994WTT3g

General rules:

There is a 10 minute voting period after each post. Non-contradictory votes will be combined as best as possible.

Write-ins for all votes are always welcome and encouraged. They may not all make it into the post or be altered to fit in, but I'll do my best to at least try to address the spirit of the write-in.

Very important or contentious votes may be redone in a stricter voting system as circumstances warrant.

Combat mechanics involve three rolls of 1d100, taking the best, and using the base accuracy and crit ranges of the game, roughly, but the 'turn order' will be more like the anime, where sometimes you can do a few moves in a row or be hit by a combo of moves yourself, all depending on circumstances. Stronger moves tend to take more time and have more cooldown than weaker moves, so beware of that timing. Speed is more important for closing ground, intercepting, and other things and doesn't necessarily mean going first. Infact, you can do more than one move in a row like the anime, but so can your opponents.

Call me out on a mistake and receive a suggestive picture, mostly likely a butt.

Pokemon:
Gobble (Munchlax)
Mace (Roggenrola)
Belladonna (Roselia)
Dice (Totodile)

Badges: 3

Location: A tiny island somewhere near Take that holds Mainland pokemon

Recently: You helped a Tauros, Gobble, and Dice learn Surf, learned a bit about unlocking pokemon's potential, laid down the law with Bella (in a Herby way) and had a bonding talk with Dice.

[I'm still not done rule 63. Sorry. More projects this week than I thought by a wide margin]

You try calm the circus on your head that is Bella and Dice wrestling, but to no avail. The two fall onto the sound with a thud, but don’t seem to mind at all and keep going. Actually, it looks like they’re having fun. What started as a fight turned into play. You sigh in relief and smile.

Tauros trots up and drops down what he was carrying. You pick it up. It’s some weird looking device. Wait, you know what this is!

“What is it?” Keira goes onto her tippy toes to try to see. She makes you feel big sometimes.

“A re-breather! I’ve seen these on TV. They let you breath underwater.” You think it was something like an hour of breath, and takes five minutes to recharge after. You’re not entirely sure about that so don’t say it out loud.

Laki reaches over and takes it from your hand to inspect. She makes you feel small sometimes. “I’ve heard of these. Let’s give it a test.” She puts it into her mouth. She spits and takes it out. “Bleh! Full of sand.”

After some cleaning and rinsing, you figure it’s good enough to test for real. You put it into your mouth, then dunk your head under the water. It takes a lot of willpower to force yourself to inhale, but when you do, you find you can breath after all! It’s a little restrictive, but hey, it works.

“Wow. Thanks, Tauros.”

Tauros grunts.

“He says it’s the least he could do after your help, and not to mention it.”

You reach to pat him on the head. He recoils at first, but accepts it. Aww, he looks so happy once you get a certain spot.

“Everyone ready to leave?” Laki asks, taking the chance to scratch it herself.” It snorts and backs away when it realizes it’s her. “Woah. Fine then.”

“I’m ready.” You say. You pack things up, give Tauros one last pet, and climb onto Wailord. It warmly greets you. You guess you’ve had a bit of time to get to know each other while training Surf.

The girls are all ready, and Laki goes to the front to direct her huge water pokemon.

“Goodbye!” You wave. As you leave on the water, you see Kecleon form out of thin air on the beach, waving back. Tauros leaps a bit at seeing them. They have a bunch of weird wooden frying-pan looking designs on little banners. “Bye!”

You sit back onto Wailord, absorbing the recent events and fiddling with the re-breather.

“Herb.” Keira plops down beside you, rubbing Gobble’s belly. He seems to really like that. “Umm, I want to make a good impression. Is there anything I should do or avoid when we meet your family?”

Her bodypaint looks a bit thick with some nice patterns on it. She really had fun with it today.

“Well, it’s not really polite to talk about lewd things people have done. So maybe just avoid that whole topic.”

“Oh.” She holds a hand over her mouth, giggling. “Like how everyone pretends not to notice anything at night in the bunks back at the temple.”

You try and fail not to picture those preistess girls from the temple you saw giggling at night in their bunks. “Umm, yeah. And watch out, because my dad might say make jokes.”

“But you said it wasn’t polite to-”

“Yeah.” You love your dad, but he can be pretty embarrassing sometimes. You wouldn’t trade him for the world, though.

“So he’s like that, huh?” She smiles and nods. “Okay! I understand.”

You watch the small island slowly vanish into nothingness. Boy, Wailord can really swim fast. You look around and see Nincada and Cutiefly hanging out. Meowth is wagging it’s butt, getting ready to pounce on Mace. It’s just about to leap when a gust of energy blows and startles it up a good five feet in the air. Meowth grumbles and walks off, and you swear you can see a smug look on Mace’s face somehow.

Keira watches Nincada for awhile. You remember that when Nincada evolve, they turn into a Ninjask and a Shedinja. And with Keira’s facepaint, any ghost type pokemon like Shedinja won’t be able to recognize her.

You want to bring it up. But you figure it’s best to ease into it.

“So there’s nothing else to remember, like a custom when I greet them?” Keira looks concerned.

“Nope. And I know if you just be yourself, they’ll love you. I do.” She smiles. But there’s a silence. “Wait! I mean, not like that. I just mean that you’re charming and fun. And that your company is-”

She holds herself as she laughs. “You make the funniest faces when you panic!”

“Right?” Laki comes in from behind. “Don’t you just want to bully him?”

“Well, prank.”

“Bullying is a form of pranking.” No it’s not.Laki pokes you in both rib, just enough to make you sit up straight. She winks and heads over to Chatot. Looks like she’s up to some quick training.

“Heh. Anyway, on the topic of lo-liking people, I know your Nincada must really like you, and will even when it evolves. But Nincada don’t evolve like other pokemon. It’s going to evolve into a a Ninjask and-”

“Shedinja.” She pulls her knees in.

“Oh.” You're relieved you don’t have to break it to her, but still not sure what her plan is “So you know.”

“I know what Nincada will evolve into. I don’t know what to do. I want to raise both, but I know I can’t. There’s a chance that Shedinja might just want to go on to the next world right way, and that means I have to guide it.” She looks at you with uncertainty in her dinner-plate eyes. That’s a rare look for her. “I don’t know if I can do that. What sort of priestess does that make me?”

>Maybe she can convince it not to evolve

>Certainly she's not the first person to run across this sort of dilemma. Perhaps consulting some of her elders on what to do would be a good idea.

“You’ll know the right thing when the time comes. I have faith.” You put a hand on her back.

She sniffs and gives you a weak smile. “You don’t have faith, though.” She holds her pendent.

“I do in you.”

She tears up again, but her smile is really wide. “That’s so heretical and...” she thinks, “potato-y.”

“Corny?”

She nods enthusiastically. “Yes! That. I like it.” She wipes the tear off with the back of her hand. It removes part of her face paint. Is that a freckle?

“Keira, your face!”

She gasps and covers it up while looking away. “Oh gosh! What did you see?”

“A freck-” Her hands cover your mouth.

“Don’t say it! Oh, that’s so embarrassing!” She removes her hand and scrambles into your bag to get your sleeping bag. She dunks the upper half of her face right in, leaving her rear end up in the air. “Don’t look!”

“Keira! Your skirt!”

“What? Oh, I mean, don’t look at my face.” The sleeping bag muffles.

You avert your eyes anyway. A hand of hers reaches out and feels around for her paints. You try your best to hand them to her without looking.

She seems like she’ll be a while, and you have a short bit of time to kill before you get to your destination.

You haven’t gotten much exercise lately. Well, you did some swimming, but nothing very tiring. And while you’re doing that, you can get your pokemon to exercise too. You head over to Laki.

“Hey, do you have time for some excercises?”

One shoulder of Laki’s tank top falls as she grins. You just talked about faith with Keira, and you still don’t know what you believe, but you know that Laki stole the devil’s grin. “Why yes. Yes I do.”

She works you hard. Really hard. Push-ups, sit-ups, lifting pokemon, swimming alongside Wailord and almost being left behind. Not that she’d really do that, she was just motivating you.

Right?

Your pokemon are working hard too. You don’t think it’s quite fair to have something as light as Bella doing pushups since she can do that all day, but Laki already grabs some weights to put on everyone and comes up with custom exercises. None of that compares to the trail she’s putting you through. She did vow revenge when you withheld her massage, but this is really noodling your arms and other muscles.

“Are. We. Done. Yet?” You do another set of push-ups with her leg resting on your back.

“You just got to the halfway mark.”

Your pokemon are all fading fast. They don’t want to stop while you’re still going.

“You know I can’t massage if I pull a muscle, right?”

She grins. “I’m not asking you to pull yourself. I’m telling you to push yourself. Come on. Struggle!”

You push yourself. “We can do it, team!” You tell your pokemon. And for a few more reps, you almost believe it. After that, she pushes you on some more exercises. The sweat falls from your forehead as you push and push.

“One more set.” Laki tells you. She leans in really close. Her breath feels cool on your ear. “If you can do the whole thing, I’ll give you a very wet, sloppy reward. I just know it’s going to taste amazing.”

You struggle and push and give it everything you can. Not because of what she said, but because you want to take on the challenge and prove your manliness. But your muscles give out. No amount of motivation seems able to get them to work anymore. You don’t pull anything, but you just can’t finish. “I can’t” You finally give.

Laki gives each of your pokemon some water, then you. “That’s a shame. I was looking forward to trying to cook you some sloppy joe's. Good effort though. You took it as far as your body could go. I’m impressed.”

You don’t really have any energy to do much besides lie there for the rest of the ride. Maybe it’s because you’re actually feeling comfy, but the rest of the ride seems short. You arrive at the island in no time.

“Oh yay! We’re here.” Your sleeping bag jets up straight. Somehow, you guess Keira just knows. She must have fallen asleep in there.

You all climb up onto the dock and Laki thanks Wailord for the ride and puts it back in it’s ball.

“So, are you in a rush?”

You check your money again, as if it would somehow magically change. You still only have half the amount your mom asked for. At least Laki's exercise makes your funds feel heavy even if they're short.

“Pokemon center?” you ask the others. They seem to think it’s a good idea. “Alright. Let’s go.”

The walk is short but agonizing since it’s mostly uphill. Your legs are complete mush.

“Want a piggyback ride?” Laki half-mocks.

“Okay!” Keira leaps onto her back. Laki is about to fight it, but she just sighs and smiles, then hitches her up and goes on her way. You smile too, until Gobble leaps onto your back in an imitation and you fall forward.

“I think you’re a little too heavy right now.” You level with him. He just looks concerned that you’re hurt. “I’m fine.”

You get up, and this time the much lighter Dice leaps onto your back in surprise instead. Bella attaches herself to Mace and the entire group eventually makes their way to the nearest pokemon center. You wish those machines worked on humans.

Healing your pokemon takes nearly no time at all. When you tell the girls that you plan on finding a battle, Keira decides she’d like to slip away for a bit to prepare to meet your family. You try to tell her it’s not something to worry much about, but she’s already gone.

You look around the pokemon center. Luckily for you, there are a good amount of trainers here. In one corner is a Loanan boy about your age. He looks like he’s on a journey, too. There’s a pair of older looking twin girls that are sitting in silence by a table. An older but experience looking man who just got his pokemon back from the nurse gives the vibe that he’d be willing to battle too. Something about the way he walks.

Maybe he will vastly underestimate us and let his guard down?

Or maybe he was doing something else with his life and got into the game late?

Maybe he'll kick our ass but we'll still learn and grow from it?

I think the more immediate question we should be asking is how much we want to bet? Like, I wouldn't want to be a hypocrite by telling our mom not to gamble, then gambling away the money for our family.
>>

and then poor herb will have to find the island equivalent to 53rd & 3rd and earn our money the old fashion way

You walk up to the older man. “Excuse me, sir?”

He looks down. “Oh. How can I help you, young man?” He has a glint in his eye, like he knows.

“Do you want to battle?” That was pretty easy. It must be because you’re too exhausted to be overly self-conscious.

“Oh? You just had your pokemon healed and looking for a battle? You must be the aggressive type, or perhaps trying to make a quick paycheck, hmm?” Before you can answer, he poses. “I accept! Name your bet and format.”

“Really? Just name it?” Laki approaches from behind.”

“Anything at all.” He confidently declares. He seems friendly. You’re not getting a shady vibe from him. But that confidence is making you second guess yourself just a little. Six fancy, polished pokeballs glimmer on his belt.

You were going to bet everything you have, since it’s just slightly over half of what you need for your mom. But should you? What if you and Laki do a double battle against him. Two minds could work faster than one, right? You’d have an advantage.

You’ll figure out the amount of pokemon after you decide the format and bet

“You sure about this?” Laki asks you quietly. “He doesn’t look like a pushover.”

Does that mean you do?

You shake off the thought. You do want to earn all the money your mom needs, but you also don’t want to lose it all and come home with nothing. You’d feel pretty bad if you gambled it all away after your talk with mom. “Single battle.” You say, then quote half of the money you have.

“I see. Interesting. And how many pokemon shall we use?”

“Is two okay?”

“Two it is!” He says. “But say it with some confidence, my boy.”

“Two!” You declare.

“My name is Hoilo.”

“I’m Herb!” You beam

“Laki.” She bows. He returns it.

You scramble to also give the bow that you forgot and apologize, but he waves away your concern. “Please, no need to be so formal.”

He leads you to a small clearing within the nearby woods. It’s not the biggest space, but it’ll do. “Go, Unfezant!”

Wow. He just sent that pokemon out first. You heard about this. That means he thinks he’s in a tier above you. Okay, no need to worry. You have some badges. You’re not terrible.

Laki watches without comment. You can tell it’s bothering her not to say anything, though.

You reach for your pokeballs. Since you just got them back from the pokemon center and challenged him, he hasn’t seen them yet. At least there’s that advantage.

“Unfezant, Feather Dance!” He directs. “Your Rock type evolves to have quite the attack power. We’ll nip that right in the bud.”

Unfezant flaps it’s wings hard and sends down a huge pillow of feathers to coat poor Mace. It’s a huge amount, and you know that whatever physical attacks he tries are going to be greatly softened. On top of that, it looked extra effective, to the point where maybe he won’t be able to hear as well through that thick layer. This is really bad.

“Mace! Gravity!”

The rock that’s hidden somewhere in the big ball of feathers acts. It’s a pretty sloppy attempt, but despite that, you can feel it working even from where you are. Unfezant comes to a graceful but forced landing on the ground.

“Oh? This is a surprise. I expected a young man like you with a strong girl like that watching to be aggressive. I may have misjudged you.”

You sigh in relief. You think you got lucky with his approach this time. You need to be careful with this battle. But at least his experience might be a handicap against your unusual pokemon. Maybe you can use that.

The question is, is will Mace's muffled hearing hurt his accuracy? Will he be more vulnerable to attacks he doesn't hear coming? You wish you knew more.

[That’s it for tonight. I’d love to run longer but I have an early morning. Tomorrow is iffy on if I can run. I should be able to, but I don’t want to promise. I’ll post as soon as I know for sure.]

Thanks for running Gobble!
>>
>>1506100
Well, you didn't miss the post-thread strategy musings.

Personally, I think we should immediately swap into Gobble. Mace relies heavily on his hearing, and it's not like he has odor sleuth to fall back on. By swapping him out we should be able to get rid of feather dance's effect the same way swapping gets rid of stat changes or leech seeds.

The trade-off to swapping is locking in our last pokemon and allowing him to choose his second to adapt. Maybe a fighting type.

But the thing is, Gobble is our bulkiest guy, so he would fare best in potentially swapping into an attack. And best of all, he has a pecha berry+natural gift. (That's a 60 bp, 80% accuracy [now 100%+] physical electric move.) with recycle he can use it twice. And his move pool is pretty versatile for whatever comes out after Unfezant. He also might be able to cheat out big damage with last resort, focus punch, or metronome.

I can see an argument for switching into Dice though. He'll resist a steel wing and has ice fang for Unfezant. But there are more potential counters to him too. (Electric and grass)
>>
>>1506210
I agree on switching out. As much as I want to give Dice some screen time, we need to win. I have a feeling his dodging would have trouble working under the Gravity, meanwhile Gobble is a super heavy Pokemon who probably won't mind it too much.
>>
>>1506452
Well, Gobble will be carrying around an extra 150 pounds under intense gravity. I'm not sure if his insane poke-strength extends that far. But I think the point is less that it will affect him and more that he doesn't really rely on mobility anyways.

Although he should still be able to get around with surf. Gravity shouldn't affect buoyancy since the water gets heavier too.
>>
>>1506072
> is will Mace's muffled hearing

I do believe that's my first butt.
>>
>>1506210
I completely forgot about Natural Gift, Gobble is obviously our best choice. It should be noted that while Natural Gift is Physical it doesn't make contact, so being able to move more slowly might be a non-issue. It's like an elemental wave that originates from the user.

I think we should absolutely use Dice if Gobble gets KO'd or if Gravity is too much for Gobble. I'd really like to use Bella more too. It's been a while since she's battled.
>>
>>1506101
Hey, Gobble. You should also update the character sheet pastebin with so that Herb's real name is John Johnson.
>>
>>1507959
It's a 2v2.
>>
Would gobble's surf get rid of the feathers?
I want a chance for dice and Bella, but this battle is important so gobble is the best choice atm
>>
>>1508130
I think just swapping out would get rid of the feathers on mace. It's possible gobble could clean himself off if he got hit too, but it'll probably be harder than just using surf as a special attack to ignore the atk drop.
>>
>>1507995
I know, I'm just saying for the future. Both Dice and Bella haven't gotten a chance to battle in a while. I feel like we favor Gobble and Mace heavily.
>>
>>1508560
Yeah, Mace certainly got a lot of spotlight by steamrolling that last gym. Bella really shone in the electric gym and Dice in the fire gym. But that's starting to feel like a long time ago. Gobble is just a good anchor all around and usually gets to show off a little, but hasn't had any crowning moments in combat for a while.

Mace tries to shake off the feathers quickly, but they aren’t that easy to remove. The Unfezant struggles to adjust to the new intense gravity. It can’t get more than a small hop off the ground.

You look over the small clearing inside the wooded area for anything you can use to your advantage. There’s small bits of brush, some overhanging trees, some open air, but not much else.

“You’re hard to trap, Mr. Hoilo.”

“Why thank you, Herb. And please, just Hoilo. Or Hoi. You’re not too bad yourself. I can tell your pokemon see you as a friend.”

You’re not sure if that’s meant as a good thing or a backhanded compliment. You can worry about that later, though. “Gobble! Body Slam!”

“Unfezant! Air Slash!”

Gobble rushes over to give that bird the full power of his weight, but on his way he’s hit across the belly with the Air Slash. He flinches and doubles over, unable to deliver his attack. That move looked like it really knocked the wind out of him.

“Air Slash can make slower pokemon flinch. It seems that speed may determine this battle, unless you have a strategy to get around that.”

Is he taunting you or trying to teach you? It’s bugging you just a little, either way.

You glance to Laki. She has her arms folded and she’s watching the two pokemon with a lot of focus. Her pokemon, minus Wailord are out, watching as well.

“Gobble! Natural Gift! Give it to him hard!” Gobble takes the berry, focuses for a moment, and transforms it into a wave of powerful energy.

“Unfezant! Sky Attack!” The bird pokemon starts charging up. You don’t know what that move is, but if it takes this long to charge it must be something big. It takes the electrical attack head on! And while it was a pretty sloppy attack from Gobble, it landed and looked super effective! A yellow buzz of energy cracks around it for a moment before fading in favor of it’s charging attack.

This looks like it’s going to hurt. And Gobble is still taunted.

But Gravity is still cranked up. So his path towards Gobble will be easy to predict. He won’t be able to get more than a foot or so off the ground.

>Switch back to Mace, he can take it

“I believe in you Gobble! Meet him head on with Body Slam!”

Gobble looks back and gives a thumbs up and determined smile. He trusts your judgement, and he believes in you the way you believe in him. He turns back around and starts charging.

Under any other circumstances he wouldn’t have the speed to even meet the attack. But with gravity and the long preparation time, he knows exactly where it’s going to come from. He charges and charges and leaps as high as the gravity lets him. At the same time, Unfezant finishes gather the energy and rushes after him, coated in a powerful energy.

The two pokemon collide in the middle. But Gobble’s Body Slam is just no match for the power of Unfezant and he loses out on the matchup. He comes crashing down to the grass. Unfezant takes a long loop around to slow down, but before he’s all the way over, the Gravity begins to fade and he’s finally free to touch the sky again.

“Gobble!” You yell out. You take a second to calm yourself and retrieve him. “Good effort, Gobble.” You hope he doesn’t feel bad. He didn’t do anything wrong.

“Alright Mace, come on out again!”

Mace appears back in a flash of light. He quickly zeroes in to face his opponent. He’s taking this very seriously.

>Rock Blast! Fire!
>Iron Defense. He’ll need it for Unfezant and whatever comes next

“Stay high and hit it with Air Slash! We can wear him down.” He directs his Unfezant.

Unfezant pushes itself up high as far as it can go. It flaps out a razor thin slice of energy that cuts down grass around Mace, but fails to hit him.

“Mace! Rock Blast! Give it your all!”

Mace is locked onto his aerial opponent. He’s watching the patch along the sky, waiting for his perfect shot. Suddenly he starts firing rocks out like an anti-aircraft battery. They nail him once, twice, three times! It’s super effective!

Unfezant is caught off guard thanks to his Air Slash missing, and he starts coming down. He manages to get it together and level out before hitting the ground though. But it’s clear that he’s almost out.

You’re about to call out to use Rock Blast again, but you remember that as moves get stronger, pokemon need to take more time between uses.

Hey Gobble, would a gravity on top of a gravity result in 2.3x normal gravity, 2.8x normal gravity, refresh the duration of the 1.66x normal gravity, or put gravity back to normal? (All this assumes the increase in accuracy is proportional to the increase in gravity.)

“We’ll have to get tricky ourselves, Unfezant! Confuse him with Swagger! Then we’ll have a chance to Roost!”

Unfezant comes down and swaggers. And boy, does that get to the usually calm Mace.

“Headbutt, Mace!”

Mace luckily hears the comma in that sentence and doesn’t try to headbutt himself in confusion. Instead, he rushes over to Unfezant and hits it with a hard, solid Headbutt then slams the bird’s head down hard on the dirt. It’s clearly knocked out.

“Good battling, Unfezant. You took us far. Now go, Starmie!”

Oh come on!

The starfish pokemon appears with a “Hiya!” It’s facelessly faces off against Mace and his faceless face.

Mace is still confused, and now you’ve got a type advantage against a more evolved pokemon. This is going to be really rough. The one advantage you have is Mace’s energy propulsion.

I'd rather train up stats like defence so our Pokemon getting hit once or twice wouldn't lead to horrible situations like this
>>
“Mace! Go as high as you can! Angle yourself so that Starmie is looking at the sun!” He doesn’t know Fly, so it’s more like an uncontrolled rocket and doesn’t have the Flying type energy when he lands. Still, that distance and unpredictability could really turn this around.

“What the-? Nevermind! Starmie, don’t go easy! Hydro Pump! Get ready to follow up with another quick attack. He’ll have Sturdy.”

Mace rockets into the sky. As he starts really getting up, he’s blasted with a heavy jet of water. It’s like a laser cannon out of some scifi movie. After it flows over the poor dot in the sky, you see Mace go completely limp. He’s knocked right out in a single blow.

“Oh my.” He says, watching Mace. “Herb, this is no trick, is it?”

“No.”

He thinks and fiddles with his pokeballs. “Hmm, Unfezant is in no condition to grab him.”

You start getting nervous as Mace loses his momentum and reaches his apex. You’ve got to act fast!

>Ask Laki to send out Wailord to be a cushion
>Try to catch him! Hurry!

What do you do? Cushion the blow? Try to get a pokemon to catch him? Catch him yourself? You begin to move forward to get ready. He’s your pokemon, and you’re not going to let him fall! Even if that means trying to catch him and risking an injury.

“Herb, what are you doing?” Laki asks.

“I’m going to ca-” oh. Right. You guess you just panicked for a second because you were so worried. You take out his pokeball and retrieve him. “Nevermind. Good job, Mace. We didn’t win, but you did really well and I’m proud.”

You sigh. You've never been a sore loser, and even making that one visible gesture bothers you, but you feel like you just didn't have it together this time. And you really needed that money. Losing is fine, but you feel like you're letting your family down when they need you.

“You look like you have a lot of money.” You keep your eyes on your shoes.

He chuckles. “Well, you’re very honest, at least. But money is nothing next to experience. Assuming you’re not going hungry or anything, that is.”

“I wanted experience too. And I usually don’t care about money. I just...I wanted to win it for my family.” You mumble, feeling a deep sense of shame about your financial problems. “So I challenged you. I guess that was a big mistake. I thought I could win and save the day.”

“I see.” He looks at you, then to Laki. She’s still coming over and is out of earshot. “This is no trick, is it? You’re not trying to con an old man out of paying?” He checks his card. “Hmm. “I couldn’t... I mean...” Your family could really use that. But can you accept it? “Is there any way I could pay you back instead? Or work it off?”

“I don’t loan money, Herb. Never do. It’s against what I believe in. And I’m afraid I don’t need anything at the moment. It would be opulent.”

It’s against his principles. Well, you have principles of your own, too. You can’t do accept this just because it’s convenient. “Then I’m going to have to say no. Thank you for the offer, but it’s against what I believe in, too.”

He reaches down and shakes your hand. You barely have the reflexes to shake it back because it takes you by surprise. After that, he bows. “You’ll do well here, Herb. I can see it in your eyes that it wasn’t easy to say that. But principles that only exist when it’s convenient are just lies. You should be proud. You’ve earned my respect.”

You do feel a swelling of pride. It feels like it really means something and it’s not just a polite thing to say. “Thank you.”

He smiles and nods, and goes on his way. “I’m looking forward to a rematch in the future. Please stop by if you’re ever in Opala.” He hands you a card. “Now, I must be going. I’m here to visit my granddaughter. Good travels.”

“You too!” You say as he leaves. Laki comes over just as he goes.

“So, what are you going to do now?” Laki asks. She starts leading you towards the pokemon center, assuming that’s your next destination.

“I’m not sure. I’ll give my mom what I have, and I guess I’ll figure it out from there. Maybe I’ll get a job.”

“A job, huh? That could take a lot of time.”

“Yeah.” You sigh.

She pats you on the back.“Don’t worry about it too much. You’ll figure something out. Maybe you’ll catch a lucky break.” The arm she was patting you with finds it’s way around your shoulder, but it’s a trap! She holds you still and tickles you all over. You almost fall to the ground from it, but she doesn’t let you and keeps going. She only stops after you start to cramp up.

Oh wow. Ow. It wouldn’t be such a big deal if your muscles weren’t so strained from the exercise. The rest of the walk is going to be a trial. You try not to feel too grumpy towards with Laki.

You get your pokemon healed again, and this time let them out.

“Cute Grass pokemon.” A girl says, bending down to pet Bella. Bella, who is usually a little wary of strangers, enjoys it.

“Oh thanks. I-...Keira?” You didn’t recognize her. She’s wearing mainlander clothes! If she didn’t have that facepaint and those signature wide eyes, you wouldn’t even know it was her. “How do I look?” She twirls.

“Umm, good. But you didn’t have to put on mainlander clothes. I told you that you should just be yourself.” Is that a school girl outfit?

“I know. But I wanted to.” She gasps. “Oh no, this is appropriate, right?”

“Umm, yeah. No worries there.” The skirt is long and traditional, the tie is done up properly, and she even braided her hair like someone from the old country.

“Great! Let’s go!”

You all head towards your parents house. You tell Keira about your battle when she asks, and that prompts her to ask “But you learned from it, right?”

Now that you’ve had some time to reflect on it, you do feel like you got something out of it. Maybe it’s because of his parting words that make you feel a bit more prideful, but you think you learned...

I really don't see what the problem is. We worked for our super rod, and got to do cool kekleon adventures because of it. We met Tauros and taught Gobble and Dice Surf because of it.

We can work for liquid assets too. It's not like the job is going to be office work. It'll probably be something like mareep herding or invasive pokemon tracking or assisting nurse joy. You arrive home just as the rain starts coming down hard. The three of you and your pokemon run to get under the overhang by your front door. Dice and Bella don’t seem to mind the rain at all, though.

“Herb!” Your mom greets you with a big hug as you come in. “Oh honey. You’re soaked. Oh, and you must be Herbs friends.” You mom seems a bit surprised at Laki and Keira, but doesn’t say anything. “Your other friend arrived a little earlier today. I told her it was fine to wait upstairs in your room. I hope that’s alright.”

Hana’s here already? That was quick!

You introduce Laki and Keira to your mom. Laki and Keira look like they’re trying to make a good impression, so that’s good. Not that you thought they’d do anything impolite, but you’re just glad everyone is getting along.

But before you go say hi to Hana, you take your mom aside. “Umm, mom. About that money.,” You reach into your pocket to take out what you have. You really don’t want to break this to her. “I only have this.”

“Only? Herb, that’s exactly enough.”

What? You look at the wad in your hand. Where did that come from?

She hugs you. “Oh Herb. I’m so sorry to ask this. I promise we’ll pay you back as soon as we can. Only a paycheck or two away. We won’t spend on anything we don’t need until then.”

You just sort of go on autopilot as you try to figure out what happened. You walk back to Keira and Laki, confused.

“What’s wrong?” Keira asks.

You explain that you ended up having enough money after all. But you have no idea how. Where did it come from?

Laki slaps you back. “You probably just forgot about extra money you had on you. I’ve seen how forgetful you are about that stuff. I wouldn’t worry about it. Come on, let’s go see your room.” She starts dragging you upstairs. “This way, right?”

>Yeah. That makes sense, you guess. Huh. Lucky break. Put it out of your mind

>>
That really doesn’t feel right. You wouldn’t just forget about that much money. Especially when it’s been the focus of your thoughts for the last while. Maybe you should say something.

Laki and Keira are both grabbing one of your hands trying to figure out where to go. You get a glimpse of your mom in the kitchen, looking incredibly relieved. Keira is looking at all the things in your house in amazement and awe, and Laki has a very content and big smile. It’s not like her usual predatory smile, but more happy and shining one.

You finally relent and lead the girls up to your room where Hana is. With everyone this happy, you decide not to rock the boat. You’ll worry about that later and just enjoy things for now. You open the door quickly and wide, eager to see you Hana.

“Hello, Johnathon Johnson.”

Smiling confidently and sitting cross legged on your bed, is Jane.

[That’s it for tonight. I have no idea what this week is like, but I really, really want to run again as soon as possible. I’ll update as soon as I know]

I thought about various waifus and possible endings to their respective stories. Tell me if you disagree.

Laki: Highly rewarding. Pushing each other to their limits, but providing just the right kind of support, Laki grows back her confidence and comes to terms with her past. A few years of training later, she returns to the olympics and wins gold. Not in pole vaulting, but in something she actually took up because she enjoyed it. Her resulting sports career pays enough to allow for Herb to become a stay-at-home husband/dad, still an eager friend of cooking and friendship. Maybe he even opens a little Pokémon daycare on his own?

Hana: Difficult to predict. Growing to accept her body and mind due to Herb's caring support, Hana's outlook on life brightens. This is as far as I can think. What would she become? A professional movie critic? A water gym leader with aquatic prosthetics? I can't say for now.

Keira: It's a long and dangerous path, but I would be highly willing to walk it due to the great content it would provide. The ghost temple, effectively ruling over Loanah, is the final authority to decide if Keira is allowed to pursue anything romantic. And please tell me I'm not the only one who thinks they are at least fishy. Remember our talk with Polu about the bone clip? And the destruction of Kontote's temple, ultimately leading to the ghost temple's rise?
I think pursuit of a romantic route with Keira will result in getting closer to the mysterious past of these islands, Rayquaza and the temples. The possibilities for great stories are seemingly endless and I think that the 'Keira route' might be necessary to unleash some of the best ones. In a good ending, the anti-mainland movement is ended, just like the alienation of Kontote, with Keira residing at Eelilee mountain as the new high priestess of the ghost temple and Herb adopting the position of the high priest of the newly erected normal temple of Kontote. Other, less... fortunate ends might end in both of them finding their untimely demise and possibly even the destruction of the region as a whole.

Valerie: Was this travel actually necessary for this ending?
Most likely, both of them would leave Loanah sooner than later. Val grows into a strong business woman due to Herb's constant support. Taking over her father's financial empire, she would lead it into the future with great success. A new branch of the business opens and sweeps the globe in short time. Uncle Herb's Worry Seed Coffee grows to be the most popular coffee shop everywhere. Though he never really adapts to the high-flying life of the super rich, Herb accepts it due to Val being happy. Sometimes, he visits a random branch of Uncle Herb's to serve coffee and chat with strangers for a few hours, offering them various kinds of life advice.

Polu: Out of the picture most likely. Shame.
Another way to end the anti-mainland mindsets and alienation of Kontote might be found in a union of these two. [cont.]
>>
[cont.]
I'm not entirely sure how this would go, but I doubt we would give this much thought anyway. What would surely be included would be a pretty long, awkward phase of coming to terms with their sexualities and such.

Jane: Highly interesting view into the human psychology.
Coming to terms with Herb being kindness incarnate takes some more time with Jane, driving her almost mad with denial. One day, she finally bursts into an angry rant of impossible accusations and crying. Herb comforts her and this is where she breaks. Anger and madness turn into what they were supposed to be: Love, affection, attraction, respect...
Falling from the submissive tree and hitting every branch, Jane turns into the only lover that can love Herb back with the same, self-sacrificing eagerness that he's giving out. Coming to terms with her heritage, both of them settle down on the islands, leading a quiet life with some children and a small Pokémon daycare.
>>
>>1512995
>>1513000
I like the effort put in, but I feel like even if just as friends with Keira we are gonna find ourselves dealing with the past and normal temple stuff.
>>
Why is Jane is our room and why does she seem so smug?
>>
>>1513016
Because she was here to meet her Grandpa for one. Also she knows our full name and knows where we live.
>>
>>1513002
Honestly, I can understand your thought process. But maybe the romance option adds another, deeper, not yet seen level? Like having to save the region from something bigger than the conspiracy? Or rising through the ranks instead of just being the heroes? It's like this most of the time in various stories.
>>
>>1513029
I'm sure we will deal with the full thing since the Big R is talking to us, but you make a good point about Keira opening a different way of doing things.

The Joestar bloodline has a tendency to get nicknamed JoJo. Jonathan Joestar, Joseph Joestar, Jotaro Kunjo, Josuke Higashikata (higashikata can be read as "Jo"), etc. It's from an OG manga series (1987 shonen jump) that recently received a popular anime adaptation.

"Jojo's bizarre adventure"

One of the JoJos, Josuke, has healing powers (called crazy diamond), but they don't work on himself, hence my interest on whether Herb's healing has "crazy diamond rules."

Let's look at this like Persona , then. What would Shadow Herb look like?

...I'm imagining him in a maid outfit, adressing everyone as "master" or "mistress", and constantly fussing over their well-being. This reflects Herb's concerns both about his masculinity and taking everyone else's problems on his own shoulders.
>>
>>1517152

>>
>>1517203
A Shadow is pretty much the thing from Jungian psychology, all the elements of yourself that you don't identify with and refuse to acknoledge. In the context of Persona, it manifests as an alternate self that proudly displays that hidden side of yourself (for most people hidden even from themselves) for the world to see. Herb strongly rejects the notion that he is in any way feminine, so his Shadow is a flagrant, open and a very convincing crossdresser.

Shadows are a different thing each game. That is just what they are in Persona 4.

Oh, that's pretty cool then. I like that it doesn't rely on the supposition of an elemental or universal perspective of evil. Although I do think that Herb is coming to terms with some of that, so depending on the point in the journey he appeared, shadow Herb could be weaker or stronger. I think the part of Herb he most refuses to even acknowledge is that he's kind of reckless and impulsive. He doesn't think of himself that way, but since starting his journey he's done a lot of action movie shenanigans. He probably doesn't want to accept not only that these behaviors can put himself and others at risk, but also that he does a lot of good that way.

He might also be ignoring what a great twink he'd make.

>>1517251
Do the others have cool psychology things too?

But also, what's Herb's middle name(s)? Maybe his full name is Jonathan Joseph Joshua Job Johnson Junior.

And if he made thick-cut French fries, they'd be JoJo's JoJoes.

It's pretty much what they are in Persona 5 as well. And Persona 2, iirc. Persona 3 didn't even have personal shadows, just Erebos, which was a collective Shadow.

Wrong.
Dio is maximillian

I couldn't help it. Thinking about our dudes as a Persona gang made me try and fit them to an Arcana.

Herb: The Fool. Not just because he's the main character, but because he's an innocent little derp protected by his own luck, and because he has a lot of potential to grow. He's easygoing, not afraid to do things in the heat of the moment, and he'll go along with what everyone else wants most of the time.

Jane: The Chariot. Another easy one, she has a lot going on that she's struggling to keep on top of. One could say that the black and white steeds of the Chariot is her dual heritage, trying to pull her in two directions. But she can learn to tame them and make them move forward harmoniously, towards a victory of HER choosing.

Hana: The Star. I was less sure about this one, but Gobble's bio says that Hana is quite bright and optimisitc when she's not feeling down about everything. The hopeful light of the Star is in her heart, and in time, it will guide her to happiness if she's willing to follow that distant glow.

Laki: The Devil. She's chained by her past failure, and tries to fill in the void by indulging her base desires. But those very same desires will be the key to her freedom, once she learns to use them to push herself further. The first step is to be honest with herself.

The others are harder. Keira would thematically fit with Death, but personally has more in common with The Sun. I'd tentatively give Polu the Magician, and I have no clue at all for Val.

You fucking monster.

>Doing that to Polu's Girl
Shame on you
>>

Huh?
>>
>>1517979
Basically in P3/4 your friend Junpei/Yosuke has the Magician as their Arcana and during the story their girlfriend/crush gets horribly murdered, leading to a bunch of issues that need to be worked through the entire game.

Also they're jealous of your mad multiple Persona wielding skills.
>>

Val strikes me as Temperance and Polu I'd say Emperor.
>>
If you had to type rick and morty, what would the typings be?
>>
>>1518429
Psychic and Normal, easy. But when them?
>>
>>1517152
That's cute as shit and I'd support it.
>>
>>1517898
Are you sure Jane isn't the devil and Laki isn't the chariot?
>>
>>1518890
That was my first instinct as well, but I realized it was the other way around when I really thought about it. Laki wants to be the Chariot, but the card is all about motion, and she isn't going anywhere. The Devil is all about temptation, indulgence and lack of restraint, which doesn't really fit Jane. Nor is she powerful or manipulative enough to BE the Devil. Violet was, and Kat might have been, but not Jane.

>>1518062
I can see Val being Temperance, but Polu isn't really the authority figure that the Emperor implies.
>>
>>1517152
I think shadow herb wouldn't be anything like that, herb seems to be an entirely selfless person, so i think his shadow would have all his selfish traits because some completely selfless can not exist, I would also believe he would have herbs side that desires things such as revenge against people.I don't know what we would be wearing but I don't think it's going to be a maid outfit, maybe a biker jacket and some tight leather pants to show rebellious intentions.

Herb's shadow is Kat. Feminine, reckless, heroic, powerful, competent, tough, cool, mischievous.
>>
>>1520751
I'm pretty sure Herb has heroic and powerful, competent, and cool.

And feminine, even if he doesn't want it.
>>
>>1520761
Exactly. Yeah, he has those things. But every time someone mentions them he thinks to himself "that doesn't sound like me." Same with how he feared how his interests and physique made him feminine rather than masculine.

These are supposed to be traits he has, but don't fit with his self-image, so he ignores or rejects them.

Every time he pulls off some pan-fu he thinks "wow what a crazy fluke!" instead of "oh, it turns out I work well under pressure" because he thinks of himself as a pansy-ass.
>>
>>1520854
I thought he had a complex and did think of himself as 'not manly enough' which sorta translates to feminine.
>>
>>1520904
Thing is, Herb has this idea of "I'm too feminine and therefore need to be more masculine." But both the premise and conclusion are incorrect. Herb's aspects he considers feminine aren't bad to have. He can be nurturing, kind, and occasionally timid without it taking away from the ways he would see as manly. But because he thinks they do, he doesn't see the ways he can be protective, daring, strong, and manly. He both rejects his femininity and ignores his masculinity. If I were to be more speculative, I would guess he fears being androgynous for some reason. Either way, his shadow would be androgynous in some way, perhaps as a cross dresser.

Laki seems to have the same complex in the opposite direction.
>>
>>1521094
cross dresser aren't androgynous, wearing some many uni sex cloths would make you , because being androgynous means you have both male and female traits, cross dressing is going for the entire opposite of you sees trait, being androgynous can also mean being unable to determine any sex at all, even if its not their sex a cross dress can still be confused for a girl thus even if its wrong, the person seeing them can determine a gender.
>>
>>1521094
I just want to see Laki and Herb in trap and reverse trap roles. Because reasons.

I just realized that Keira's arcana is most likely Judgment. It's a card about looking back on all you've done before the end of the current cycle, and Keira's whole THING is living a life that she won't regret and encouraging others to do the same.
>>
>>1517898
Are there minor arcana too? Who is the seven of cups?
>>
>>1521648
Persona doesn't assign minor arcana to people, because using all the major gives a big enough cast as is. Sometimes they use them for minor references or post battle minigames.

[So it's been a pretty intense week for school. There won't be a thread tomorrow due to study/assignments. We should be on for the weekend as usual, though.]

One last thing on the whole Persona thing before I drop the subject. I couln't think of anyone else, but I think Herb's Persona would be Percival, the prettiest knight.
>>
>>1524465
Speaking of knights, Herb would be pretty cool wielding a honedge/doublade/aegislash. Or, failing that, just a regular sword.

Today I remembered that Spoink and Giraffarig exist. Along with Solosis, thise are the psychic lines I like the best. Gobble has been really good about giving more niche pokemon spotlight, but in still a little worried Keira is going to send Shedinja to the next world and we won't get to see much of it. I'm really curious what actually happens to ghost types they usher onwards. It would feel weird to have their religion confirmed accurate or inaccurate.

What do you guys want to do after we're done visiting home? I'd like to pay that tea specialist at the electric temple a visit. We also have that recommendation from the kek man to cash in. All that would be right before finishing off our rod-debt.
