/qst/ - Quests

Welcome back, everyone, to the eighty-sixth installment of Mecha Space Pirate Quest. I'm Wong, your host, and today you are once again Admiral Roarke Susan Starwind of the Iron Kestrels Space Pirate fleet. Also tourney pilots, later on. You know the drill!

Last time, you arrived just in time to see Clemmy and Samantha looking VERY pleased with themselves over the shattered mecha of three SOUL heroes.

Ey, Wong. Just as a heads up but my schedule changed this week. Now I'm off Friday and Saturday.
>>
>>1522111

I'll get you in on Friday, then. Now if only I can remember the other matchups...

“...So that's what happened.” You finish filling the three SOUL C pilots in, as Brunhilde serves them each a cold beer in the comfort of the Rhinehawk's bar.

“You really had no way of stopping him?” The one with the purple-dyed hair, apparently a relative of the Jovian Planetary Chairman and easily the most tempting to kidnap for ransom, sips his drink and nods approvingly.

You nod firmly, “I wanted to, at first, but after he broke out of the ship he convinced me to let him go. It would be hypocritical for me to stop him from going into peril to save the woman he loves at this point, considering what I did on Mars.”

The big one who looks like he could indeed beat up a Paladin frowns, “The Martians are civilized, the Avalonians are enemies of all mankind. I saw firsthand what they did on Qu'lir.”

“Almost everyone is an enemy to space pirates.” You correct him sharply, “If I was caught somehow, do you think I wouldn't have been arrested? In a way, I owe General Fairchild...and believe me, that's incredibly painful to say. If she hadn't turned on Commodore Abujamal and made me look good by comparison, I'd still be a villain in their eyes.”

“I hear they feed criminals to the sandworms on Mars.” The third pilot, the shy, stuttery one with the largest mech comments.

“That's not actually true.” Samantha corrects him. Samantha and Clemmy have been uncharacteristically not hostile towards each other, both too busy preening at their own victory. Right now, one is on either side of you, snuggling against your shoulders. It's certainly good for your ego, “Sandworms are a pest animal, they don't want to encourage them to come near settlements by feeding them.”

“Whose idea were sandworms, anyway?” The purple-haired boy, Garret, questions.

The big one, Amos, with the Major's insignia on his uniform, shrugs, “The Green Men.”

“Of fucking course.” Garret grumbles, and the three let out a well-rehearsed sigh. Qu'lir must have been rough on them.

“Anyway, as I was saying, I understand wanting to help him, but if you go about it that way the Avalonians will just get suspicious of his identity. If they find out who he is, no matter how they react it won't be good for him, right?” You don't mention that you don't intend to let either of the kids get within arm's reach of Fairchild ever again, they don't need to hear that right now. You spread your arms wide. “Save him, if you like, but do it after he has Naomi back.”

The three of them trade glances. The Major frowns, “...What's in it for you?”

You shrug, “I hate sad endings, don't you?”

He looks even more suspicious, “We won't do anything that puts him in danger, and we want him to get his girlfriend back, obviously...but this whole thing is a bad idea. This isn't a comic book or a holodrama, just believing in your friends alone isn't enough to make sure you win. We have to think logically and remember just what Avalon is capable of. Admiral Starwind, for now we'll stay quiet, but if we see an opportunity to rescue him, a clean one...”

You hold your hand up to forestall him, “I get it, you'll do what you have to do. I don't have the right to blame you for that.” Inwardly, you were hoping to do better, it's nice to meet more SOUL members who seem to dislike General Fairchild. “Let's just enjoy our beer.”

The Major nods, “If I may ask, sir, how are you keeping the Paladin in your custody contained? We have some experience with this matter, on Qu'lir a number of new security measures were designed to keep unauthorized personnel out of the brig.”

“Amos, please, you sound like we're planning to snatch her.” Garret grumbles. “Refill, please.” He slides his empty glass expertly over to Brunhilde, who catches it deftly.

“Honestly, I'm a little surprised that General of yours hasn't tried that already.” You remark, “It would be an extremely foolish idea, on any count.”

“You'd die.” Clemmy informs them.

Samantha nods, “You'd definitely get killed.”

Ahhh well. Would have liked to poke that a bit more and tried for a small speech, but it'd likely have been a hard sell anyways. As for the big question, we can likely be honest to some degree, just no 'I sleep with the Paladin.'.
Really, explain it how we do just about everything else. We don't treat them badly, listen to them, and tend to be strong enough to handle most issues if they arise. Then it just sort of progresses.
In the end, we hate the Green Lady, but Avalonians are give or take. If they are decent, no reason why we shouldn't be fair. Doesn't mean we don't take precautions with them though.

“Well, about that.” You cough into your fist, “When you say 'contained'...I mean, that's a very broad term.” You look at Clemmy and Samantha.

They smile sweetly back without a single drop of sympathy, “Go on, Roarke, we'll let you tell them all about your security arrangements.” Samantha radiates sweet, pure innocence.

“Yes, let them hear just how seriously you're taking the threat of an Avalonian commander. These boys are veterans at that, you know...although you did it solo so you're still the best, Roarkey.” Clemmy kisses your cheek, with a much less innocent smirk.

“I'm guarding her personally.” You adjust your shades.

“Ah, it's g-good to be a little paranoid.” The shy one of the trio, Simon, nods and smiles, “T-they're really dangerous. Lucas Ford shot a battleship's main cannon t-through his own troops at us.”

“That doesn't sound like something Loriette would do.” You remark.

Garret rubs his chin, “Completely unflappable, as expected of the legendary Pirate Admiral. So, electrified cage? Stasis pod? How are you doing it? Amos' Irina and my girl Marilyn rigged up a cell built to hold dangerous animals for Carnegie.”

“That's a bit excessive, isn't it?” You try to deflect, deciding you won't lie to them, “She's honor-bound to stay with me until ransomed back, after all?”

“Not to the Avalonians, certainly. As a prisoner, she's lost a lot of value thanks to...us...really...but she's still worth a lot of credits, maybe even some kind of letters of marque or more colonies or something. You're not giving her back to Avalon, are you?” Garret looks alarmed.

Amos is just...watching you. His eyes narrow slightly, “Is she even in a cell, sir?”

You adjust your shades again, “Imprisonment is more like a state of mind. I have complete confidence she isn't going to escape, and while turning her over to Avalon is far down my list of preferred scenarios I can't rule anything out at this point.” You're going to say more, but are abruptly interrupted.

“MON ROWAAAAAARC!” Loriette's voice rings out stridently, “I am tres bored and tired of being cooped up on le Rhinehawk! Come! Let us go explore le colony some more!” She flounces over, “I am willing to take le risk of running into mon cousin and le zhirty-eighth attempt on mon life, c'est worth it!” Pouting, she throws her arms around your neck from behind.

Samantha and Clemmy give her simultaneous baleful glares while the three SOUL members just...stare at you in shock and horror.

“Maybe you should introduce her, Rowarc?” Clemmy grins like a tigress.

“Oui, petit peasant boy, ohohoho~” Samantha flutters her eyelashes.

Loriette finally deigns to notice your company. You see her noticing their UJCIDF uniforms, plus Clemmy, plus Samantha. Her eyes narrow in annoyance, “Faugh. Per'aps I am rescuing you, mon Rowarc? Come away, let these gas knights converse, they do not deserve your conversation.”

“No!” Clemmy grips your arm tighter.

“We earned him!” Samantha insists, siding with the Butcher for once and hugging more tightly against you too, “A proper lady wouldn't interrupt!”

“Jove. Damn. It.” Garret covers his mouth with a hand.

“The legends really are true.” Simon sounds awestruck.

“...And there goes the Belt.” Amos facepalms.

“Jove. Damn. It!” Garret repeats, dropping his face into his hands.

Amos seems to have momentarily forgotten how to speak, just shaking his head silently.

“Wow. He really is Roarke Starwind.” Simon, by contrast, sounds a bit awestruck and admiring. At least someone appreciates you.

“I was last time I checked.” You respond wryly, keeping your cool despite the uncanny sensation that you're holding three cats each on the verge of shredding your arms in order to attack the other two. You can practically feel Clemmy bristling, and Samantha's smile is a little two sweet. Loriette isn't innocent either, she's definitely trying to provoke them by pressing her chest against the back of your head like this.

“That's a really novel way to keep a prisoner.” Amos finally remarks, awkwardly.

“A pity you couldn't keep the Berenger Duchess that way, eh?” Garret nudges his friend, grinning.

Loriette's arms tense around your shoulders, not quite choking you, “So it is you.” She hisses, “Le Chevalier Azul. I zought le face was familiar.” She points dramatically, “Were I not forsworn, I swear, I would challenge you 'ere and now!”

Samantha frowns, “Why can't you duel him? I'd like to see it.”

Loriette pouts, “Mon Rowarc would be upset, and besides, zis peasant wench shall be le first if I am permitted.” She glares at Clemmy.

“A~n~y~time~!” Clemmy's voice is cute, practically a bleat, infused with giggly anger.

Your PC rings and with unashamed joy in your heart at being able to escape this situation you snatch it up, noting the contact icon as you bring it to your ear, “Karen, I love you.” You tell her sincerely.

“I love you more, but right now we have a situation!” There's a metallic crash in the background, “No, we have an emergency!” You hear the overworked mechanic girl swearing at someone.

“Stay calm, tell me everything.” You disentangle yourself quickly, and leave the bar in a hurry, having to strain to escape the tar pit of feminine arms grasping at you.

“It's the SOUL mecha. As soon as we cracked the outer armor open to have a look, these transmitters inside sent out a signal and...HEY! Get away from that! Don't you dare read my notes!” You hear outraged squawking, and then the sound of Karen's PC being dropped. Much to your surprise as you charge down the hall, the SOUL pilots are following you.

Inside the mechbay is a scene of chaos. Aligned along one wall, pouring out of a few rented shovels, are a few dozen UJCIDF MPs in ballistic armor, facing off reluctantly with a much larger group of less-equipped Kestrel mechanics and pirates brandishing a motley assortment of tools and weapons. At their lead is a shrieking woman with shoulder-length blonde hair and vaguely familiar features, wearing sunglasses and a white labcoat, yelling at Karen. The two women are both holding autowrenches and clearly on the verge of hitting each other with them. A few mechanics are trying to hold Karen back, and a woman with dark skin and...much to your surprise...feline ears and tail is trying to stop the blonde from hitting your mechanic.

“UNACCEPTABLE!” The blonde roars, “How dare you try to steal more of our designs!? Take your hands off my precious babies!” She shoves Karen with the autowrench.

Karen shoves her back, sparks practically lighting off the crossed tools as the two women strain against each other, “As if I'd need to! My Roarke's mech could beat them all at once, I wouldn't glean more than a few improvements!”

The blonde's face goes icy, then she howls like a blizzard, “SO IT'S YOU! YOU'RE THE ONE! YOU SMUG LITTLE BITCH, YOU'RE THE ONE WHO MADE ALL THOSE POSTS ON GYCHAN! DID YOU THINK YOUR SHITPOSTING WOULDN'T COME BACK TO HAUNT YOU!?”

“Y-YOU CAN'T HURT SOMEONE FOR WHAT THEY POST ON THE HOLONET! BESIDES, THIS IS MY MECHBAY, GET OUT!” Karen stomps her foot, displaying a vein of brattiness she rarely expresses anymore.

“Oh Jove, Irina's lost it.” Amos murmurs in a despairing voice, “You shouldn't have let them meet.”

“Oh?” You think for a moment, then perk up, remembering, “Oh, my future sister-in-law.”

Garret looks askance at you, “Sister-in-law? Wait, who...hey Amos, is Irina related to Lieutenant Farragut or something?”

Amos just shakes his head.

The two women glance at you for a moment, then back at each other. Then make a concerted effort to bash each other with the wrenches.

“My mechbay!”
“My mechs!”
“You're trying to embarrass me in front of my Roarke!”
“You ARE embarrassing me in front of MY Amos!”
“These are free repairs from a highly-qualified mecha ARTISAN, you ungrateful bitch!”
“And you'll just study all my advanced systems a little while you're at it, right, you thieving slut!?”
“I'm just looking out for my boyfriend!”
“...and it doesn't hurt that once you've made that stolen mech even MORE powerful you'll claim all the credit and brag on the holonet, right!?”
“I deserve credit for being the best at what I do!”
“The best!? I'll show you best! I didn't get to steal other people's work you rapacious harridan! I actually earned my laurels!”
“Don't act like you're good enough to be my rival! You're just a side-character next to the feud between me and Red Siren!”

That last comment seems to strike home. You swear, for a moment, you see the human-scale equivalent of a Paladin's biocore coming online, every muscle in the blonde's body tensing as she surges forward, “SAY THAT AGAIN! I DARE YOU, SAY THAT AGAIN!” A female UJCIDF officer grabs her arm and tries to help the cat-eared woman hold the blonde back, but she still grabs Karen by the braid and pulls. Hard.

Karen stiffens, and with an outraged yelp drives her foot into the blonde's knee. One of the mechanics trying to hold Karen back slips, “Come here, I'll remodel your head servo with this wrench!” Karen howls in an admittedly not terribly intimidating tone, swinging wildly before Clemmy grabs her arms and Samantha grabs her legs, hauling her away from her taller opponent.

Amos winces visibly at the Rosita comment, “That's a low blow.” He mutters to himself, worriedly, watching the two women try to reach each other, seemingly more intent on clawing the other's eyes out the further apart they're pulled.

“No, seriously, how is Irina his sister-in-law?” Garret demands to know quietly, then waves to the cat-eared girl, “Hey Mari! I'm okay! Did you come to rescue me?”

“You knyow it! Even if you don't need it, I'll always save you!” She smiles brilliantly at him, tail curling into a heart shape.

“I can sort of see it.” Simon shrugs, “I mean, there's a bit of a resemblance.”

“She's been avoiding her sister since we got here.” Amos admits to you quietly, “Even dove into some bushes once so she wouldn't have to talk to her.”

You wince in sympathy, “Let's do something stupid, then.”

He looks at you curiously, “You mean you want to...?”

You nod, “Get them together. They're family, it's only right.”

He cracks a big smile, and for the first time, eases up towards you a little, “I forget sometimes you had a brother.”

Your smile vanishes as you remember that Cassius' killer is on this damned colony, within reach of your fists. You could kill her tonight if you didn't care about the consequences, just walk up and spear-hand her in the throat. You know where the trachea is, you could pop her windpipe and watch her die slowly, panicking and fighting for air until the end. It frightens you a little how happy that mental image makes you.

“Sorry.” Amos scratches the back of his head, “That wasn't something I should have said, I'm not cut out for this diplomacy stuff.”

“I wouldn't respect you so much if you were.” You respond honestly, “No, you didn't do anything wrong. Let's see if we can get them together for dinner after the next round of the tournament.”

“Amos! We're going, and we're taking your mecha with us!” Irina has finally calmed down, red-faced and indignant as she straightens out her labcoat.

“Coming, dear!” Amos waves to her, then mentions to you, “Oh, by the way...Simon's a huge fan of yours, but he's too shy to say anything. So could you maybe...” His voice trails off.

You nod, and give him a thumbs-up. As the three SOUL pilots depart, you tap Simon on the shoulder, “That's an impressive beast of a mech you've got. Come spar with me sometime when you're here, I want you to meet my teacher. Maybe we'll have a few pointers for you.” It could bite you in the ass later, training up an enemy...but then again, maybe you're just helping a future friend.

His face lights up in a huge smile, and he grabs your hand, shaking it vigorously, “Th-th-th-thank you, Admiral sir! I'll be sure to do just that! Um, I've got to go, but really, thank you!” He gabbles, before running after his friends.

“I wasn't going to.” You respond, you can't blame her for being protective of her mechbay, “They're nice kids, I'm glad I got to meet them, even if it wasn't under the best circumstances...why are you looking at me like that?” You glance down and see her smiling up at you, hugging your arm. “Don't tell me it's because I'm making more friends, I still might have to fight them again someday.”

Her smile widens, “No, Roarke, it's because I at least had time to do a complete structural and material analysis of the shield the blue one had, and I can't wait to tell you all about it.”

Things that the tourney arc unlocks for the Knuckle Kaiser:

>More Drones
>Permanent Booster Pack (maybe, I'm tempted to just have Pod-with-Booster Pack be something that gets slapped on as needed and can be removed with an action for Medium-weight and better mecha)
>Gamma Armor available
>Potentially that anti-range-attack shield, but to be honest you don't NEED it that badly and would be hard-pressed to find space for it

>>
>>1523405
I'd go drones first, then either boosterpack/gamma armor. The anti-range attack shield...I'd save it for last unless people start carrying guns that can tear a hole in the Knuckle Kaiser.
>>
>>1523412
I like the anti-range purely because it forces enemies to come into melee range if they want to damage us.
>>
>>1523405
Well, drones would probably be first due to action economy.
>>
>>1523405
>Gamma Armor available
can we get a rundown on this is this an improved officer shield or is this to do with metal parts of the mech
>>
>>1523405
Well.. one idea I saw poked was a distributed shield like the Fin Funnels. Space economy could be salvaged some by making things like the active shield, grapple-chan, and some sub systems steam lined.
Still, Gamma armor itself is nice. We'd be blast proof and I'd laugh madly as Cabot tries to blast us with all the missiles again. Even more if she had more than one slayer drone.
>>
>>1523405

Make the fist drones out of gamma and they can fly about and act as shields as well?
>>
>>1523422

>>
>>1523422
Maybe. One idea I had was having the drones use the largest servo category. Would make them slightly more expensive, but it'd boost their attack power, kills, armor, and dismembering potential.
Could also go to an energy shield design or upscale the body. We'd get more space one way, and cut down weight dramatically the other.

Action economy. Each drone basically gives a mech 1 extra action. It's why they're so OP. You probably saw how well it went for Clemmy.
>>
>>1523429

If you start down that route the Kaiser would start taking up multiple spaces in the Rhinehawk's bay.

The drones would be fists, yes. The ones Roarke has already are.

You're showing a real lack of ambition there though. Don't you want fists bigger than most mechs?
>>
>>1523449
>he doesnt want to master hand people
>>
>>1523449
But if you want to make them into the fists you're thinking about, they'd have to be attached to arms, which would be a lot more costly and not as efficient, since you would still only fist one person at melee range.

Adding fists to drones means that we can fist people at range AND fist someone multiple times. And if we're going the Big Bang Punch route, it'd be fun to see one big fist going on and hitting someone, kinda like this, except without Roarke turning into one big glowing fist.

>>1523465
IIRC the combined weapon cost 1.5 times what it did, and the combining weapons have to equal the pre-multiplier cost. So you could have a huge beam gun made up of 2 smaller beam guns, or a bunch of tiny beam guns.
>>
>>1523471
Combination weapons are fine, combination mechs arent even that bad up until you try to figure out how damage is allocated.

Again, drones are more cost effective. Just think of it as tons of rocket punches.

Standard ol' beam shield. Which might make sense if we try for a reactive shield too. Active shields tend to be less handy when you are highly agile or got multiple defenses.
Course, we COULD just got grab a single, 20 SP beam shield. Price would certainly go down alongside weight instead of getting 2 beam shields, but it's not the same.
Oh, and replacing the active shield with the non active beam shield? 11 cp.

Hmm, time to consult the Mekton Technical Abuse site...

Name: Poor Man's Reactive Shield#Updated#
Munchkin Meter: **********

Description: Coupling an AF of 2 with a -2 WA Beam Shield results in Reactive Shield like protection for 1.8cp/K instead of 3cp/K normally required by reactive shields. This gets even better if the design has room for 2 shields, which can then alternate between uses and add the TIU and Rechargeable modifiers for even more savings.

(The Munchkin Meter has been increased due to some calculations I did. A 20K, 1 TIU, Rechargeable, -2 WA, AF 4 beam shield costs only 17.82 cp. Buying two of them only costs 35.64 cp. This is even cheaper than a 15K reactive shield! It is effective against all types of attack, has 5 more SP, is basically unlimited, and by default has a Reset of 1)

Remedy: Exploit the fact that Beam Shields can't have Reset: 0. Also, exploit the fact that there are two facings unprotected on a mech with Beam Shields instead of Reactive Shields.

>>
>>1523474
Seems pretty simple. Make a couple mechs, designate what part of the smaller mechs are where on the bigger one then when one servo on the big one takes damage, so do the smaller ones.

So in the example in Zeta Plus, the head of the Greater Mecha (8/6) is made by the torso (2/2) of the Figher smaller mech. If the head got hit with a 4K attack, the head would lose 1 SP, but if the mech de-combined, the fighter would be destroyed. If another Lesser Mech's servo was part of the head, it would also take 4K damage.

Keeping all that straight would be a nightmare though.

true, but at the same time, you have the ability to lay down extreme range ap attacks that have a good chance of hitting and comes in bursts. That bird's only defense is a anti-beam chaff, anti-missiles, and dodging. It also sacrifices speed to use that massive melee. After all, the wings become legs, and it loses flight bonus. Thats 8 MA down right there PLUS it loses an action.

>>
>>1523551
In most circumstances, yes. But you have a sniper variant, correct? It packs plenty of punch and the Sagi's dodge penalty makes up for some issues. Or you can be a total butt and indirect blast fire near it and simply do a dozen dice to see if you get luck and either melt it's chest armor or hit the cinematic or special table.
>>
>>1523561
I think that's how you'd mess up the M-Sagister: explosions.

But I don't think the sniper and blast are together.
>>
>>1523564
Don't think they are, no and indirect fire hurts from further away. I was honestly pondering if indirect blast missiles would even trigger anti-missile systems since they seem to be based only on missiles attacking them directly.

You would have an easier time than the poor jager. I'm going to have to pull some shit out my ass for that fight or hope the PTSD dice kick in again.
>>
>>1523569
Also, 1 AP sniper shot is enough to destroy the head. -2 penalty right there, and takes a quarter of the sagi's MA with it since it only has 4 servos. For land speed? That 10 Ma becomes 7.5 which hurts how far it can chase you. Remember, you have free 2 MA that you can use for moonwalking or getting away.
There are ways to deal with it.. but because of how it's set up, you must play it smart.

Yeah, only AP and tracer rounds on the sniper. But bringing the sniper rifle seems suicidal depending on how the map looks. if there's enough cover for the Sagister to safely approach, the sniper is useless.

Which brings to mind why I want to at least experiment with Combiner weapons, even if I think they're stupidly expensive. It would finally, FINALLY, give me a way to turn the existing CROWE into a true modular weapon like the EAGLE I based it off of.

I think I just had an epiphany regarding that, too. But it's going to have to wait until Friday to see if I can actually make it work.

>>

1/however many servos you have thrusters in. Not total servos. At least, that's how Wong does it. So the Sagister would lose 1/3rd its MA if it lost a leg. Along with the wing and Avian bonus.

The original Kaiser was around 200, if I recall correctly.

And part of the reason why we have so many absurdly effective mechs at a 140 CP level is because we had a ton of people obsess over the rules and create non-standard entries.

A standard unarmed Medium Weight Mech with 12 MA comes in at a bit over 100 CP, so if it was souped up a bit and given actual weapons, it would be pretty formidable.
>>
>>1524201
150-160 CP is good.

>>1524231
Actually, it was 140 at the start.
>>
>>1524264
Hmm, my mistake.

Personally, I'm thinking of a rule where you have separate budgets for your mech's weapons.

Also thinking of a rule where multipliers are only applied to relevant parts of the mech. Giving a mech VTOL capabilities doesn't really affect the weapons all that much, so it doesn't make sense to multiply the cost of the weapons either. If you bought the Targeting computer, it doesn't make sense to multiply the cost of your melee weapons because only ranged weapons are affected.
>>
>>1524289
It affects your weapons by letting you fire them twice without going into free fall.
>>
>>1524291
For a hovering jet? Maybe. Just maybe.

But other modifiers don't make sense when applied to the entire mech.
>>
>>1524297
A lot of things dont make much sense about this system. Why does cost dictate spaces taken instead of weight or something for one thing.
>>
>>1524306
Another good one is why does adding a second slot for ammunition make the ammo cost more?
>>
>>1524306
True, but this is something I can easily fix.

I also think Verniers should be calculated using Weight, but that can get unbalanced pretty easily.

Technically, if you calculated all the Ammo characteristics using the Kills of Damage the weapon does, and not its cost, you'd have something more internally consistent. However, that could get unbalanced.

Although... the changes to the ammo values shouldn't be that big. Especially if we're ignoring Ammo Weight.

Calculations:

Example Gun 1: Range 7MA, WA +2, 5K, 10 CP, 10 Spaces, 2.5 tons
- Ammo Calculated with Weapon Cost: 10 Rounds, 1 CP, 1 Space
- Ammo Calculated with Weapon Kills: 10 Rounds, .5 CP, 1 Space

Example Gun 2: Range 9MA, WA 0, 10K, BV3, Long-Range, 53 CP, 53 Spaces, 5 tons
- Ammo Calculated with Weapon Cost: 10 Bursts, 5.3 CP, 5 Spaces
- Ammo Calculated with Weapon Kills: 10 Bursts, 1 CP, 1 Space

I guess it saves you some CP and Space. Admittedly, the price had to be jacked up really high to make a noticeable difference.

Although, it would make sense for the ammo to cost more and take up more space if you were using a Burst Fire system. Either way, calculating Ammo stats using kills isn't THAT big a difference, unless Libranon wants to correct me on the intricacies of SP guns.

>>1524328
I tried figuring it out but I wasn't sure if the combined weapon is supposed to cost 1.5 times the calculated weapon values or if it got discounted to half its cost. That, and the question of Space Efficiency being counted towards the cost.
>>
>>1523538

Link them, don't post them.
>>
>>1524377
>or if it got discounted to half its cost
It's 1.5 times the cost. A negative multiplier that reduces the cost has a - sign in front of it. For proof, open the Corebook and look at starship MA. The really low MA values are listed as "-x0.2" and such.

If it did halve the cost, giving your mech every sneaky upgrade so it would be basically undetectable while cloaked would reduce the cost of a mech by 60% since those multipliers are also listed as "x0.X" and such.

Basically, every mech you make has a native multiplier of 1.0, and any other multipliers you take are added or subtracted from that. I can't think of any negative multipliers in Zeta Plus though.

It's a very minor nitpick.
>>
>>1524328
Hang on, I think I might have found a way to make Weapon Combiners work.

The biggest limitation of Weapon Combiners is that their component Weapons have to add up to half the cost of the overall weapon. So a 30 CP weapon has component Weapons that add up to 10 CP. The greater weapon must also occupy the same number of spaces as the two combined weapons, so I'm guessing space Efficiency is part of the cost.

The way you could Actually make that work is to have the costs of the component Weapons equal the cost of the overall weapon. So a 20 CP Combiner weapon would cost 30 CP but the costs of the component Weapons would add up to 20 CP. You're getting three Weapons for 30 CP but two of those can't be used while the third one exists.

Makes a lot more sense in my opinion.
>>
>>1524631
Just use Imgur. It's easier than Google Drive and it's not as shitty as Photobucket.
>>
>>1524710
>The way you could Actually make that work is to have the costs of the component Weapons equal the cost of the overall weapon. Eh, not really. You're essentially getting 50% of the Greater Weapon for free by doing this, since the whole point of the lesser ones adding up to 50% is that you don't have to actually pay the multiplier for the greater one. I would say that it should be an option. You can make do it this way, but you also have to pay the 0.5 multiplier.
>>
>>1524711
>>1524649
I used this instead. Hope it works. https://anonimag.es/image/JT9s19V
>>

Hot standard power plants as well.
>>
>>1524405
Also, space hydraulics, weight ineffeciency, and a system that lowers your maneuver pool. It is possible to get a 80% discount if you do it right.
>>
>>1524757
You ARE paying the Multiplier with the way I wrote it. You create a weapon, multipy it by 1.5 and pay that cost. The component weapons add up to the original weapon's cost. This allows for the creation of stronger component weapons, which is a lot more fair.

Anyways, this is all a mechanical difference. In play, you would need special facilities and stuff to create a Combiner Weapon. If I was planning on allowing them in my setting.

Yo, could someone help me with energy pools? Shit's crazy yo. Or at least give a clear example.
>>
>>1525281
(Head Mounted) Energy Pool: 30 Available Power, 3 Portfolios, 13 Kills, 6.5 Tons, 10 Spaces, 50 Space Efficiency, 85 CP (Base 60 CP)

Thunderbolt: WA 1, 20K, 900 Meter Range
Super AMS: WA 3, 10K, Anti-Missile
Xiphos: WA 1, 15K, EMW, Quick

Here's one I made. What are you having problems with?
>>
>>1525310
How do you use a sword that sticks out of your head?
>>
>>1525310
The available power part and portfolio.
>>
>>1525320
By being a tank.

>>1525321
Available power is the max CP cost a weapon in the energy pool can have. Portfolios are how many weapons an energy pool can have. So the energy pool I made can have weapons that cost up to 30 CP, and can have 3 weapon portfolios it can switch between.
>>
>>1525321
Also how did you come up with the WA and kills portion of each portion?
>>
>>1525320
You ever see destroyha from godzilla?
>>1525321
Basically you have a certain amount of power available which you can use as CP for a weapon, so if you have an energy pool with 25 power available you can make a weapon that costs 25 CP as one of its forms.
The portfolio is how many different forms your weapon can take. Most have a portfolio of 3 so using the above example you can make 3 weapons at 25 CP.

>>1525336
And the maximum power part?

Everyone was terrified because getting through the armor would be a chore and it had a big gun that could fuck up your day.

But I was referring to the mental image in this case. Just, the idea of the Blitz ineffectually swinging its turret around while the mech it's trying to hit stands on top of the turret amuses me.

Before any orc-baby apologists show up, I'll clarify this. When encountering an orc baby after slaughtering an encampment of orcs, you have two options.

One, kill it and feel bad, because we're programmed to see larval things as cute and not want to murder them.

Two, take it in and derail the game into My Adopted Green Drizzt Baby Who Might Turn Evil Eventually Anyway Because Gruumsh Designed Them To Be Hyper Aggressive And Easily Angered.

Fuck both options, honestly. It's stupid in the first place for the Orcs to bring children with them if they're raiding human lands or whatever, and if they have noncombatants with them, say you're slaughtering a village of them trying to colonize the local barony, you're in a situation where your charter as an adventurer clearly includes slaying noncombatants and you were fine with it before it wasn't portrayed in such stark terms.
>>
>>1525431

>>
>>1525437

>>
>>1525431
This. I've had DMs do the forced oh my god drama shit too often. Shits stupid. My first DM treated orcs like viking raiders, they maraud in from somewhere else and fuck things up. No pesky moral problems for the annoying three other players.
>>
>>1525444
>I was imagining a big beam saber sticking out of the barrel of the tank and being waved around.

>>1525444
>>1525448
>burnt orphanages

>>
>>1525431
Leave them in a shaolin temple and walk away.

Monk training will solve the problem in time, or the monks will deal with the rampanging orc children anyway.

If you don't have shaolin monks in your world, the nearest temple of a god of peace/life/hippie stuff should be able to brainwash- errr... I mean... teach them into not being murderous assholes.
>>
>>1525444
From the way I think they work, the barrel would retract or deconstruct and it would be left with just a pure beam. It would be pretty stupid if it was actually designed to make it impossible to aim up.

I wanted to make it a halberd because I don't like flails, but I'm pretty sure weapons like them weren't invented for centuries after Greek societies ceased to exist.
>>
>>1525454
>My first DM treated orcs like viking raiders, they maraud in from somewhere else and fuck things up.

One of the best ways to portray Orcs. Good on him.

One of my DM's once went full out on the Viking Orc analogy. Orcs had their own thriving society and shit but liked to raid and pillage the nearest Kingdoms. Then they went and sacked the Paris equivalent and we had to steal back the silver they demanded as ransom. Fun times.
>>

>>1525427

It isn't untrue, but it's also not correct, because it raises the wrong question. It's not a matter of whether or not orc babies are evil, it's a matter of whether or not you should kill them.

Consider most wars in history, were the people on the other side evil? Not usually, most people are good, at least in their own minds. Their leaders might be evil, but Hans the Stormtrooper might just want to protect his homeland by removing burger and borscht. That doesn't mean grandpa Bob should feel guilty about shooting Hans, sometimes decent people are forced to kill other decent people by circumstance.

The difference is that if Grandpa Bob doesn't encounter Hans the Stormtrooper, but rather Hans the Baby Nazi, he can be reasonably assured that if he raises Hans himself or puts Hans into an orphanage, Hans will grow up into a regular human instead of being genetically predisposed to despise the juden and admire men with tiny mustaches. A baby orc is different, because it isn't human, it has different drives and instincts. Even half-orcs have a (frequently downplayed) genetic predisposition with getting angry or aggressive really, really easily, full-blooded orcs have it much worse.

The real problem, though, is that it's such a complex issue and such a campaign derailer and is so easily avoided by the orcs just leaving their mates and spawn at home in the mountain caves (which would explain the raping, too, if they don't have their own women around) that it betrays an agenda on the part of the DM if he includes it, and so killing the babies to spite him is a perfectly valid response.

Ironically, that's how Tolkien did it despite how blatantly his orcs were magically twisted creations of evil and how you never see a single orc female. Orcs had villages, even farms of a sort, with different sub-species and individuals that were invested to greater or lesser extents in actually fighting...but Mordor was SUCH A SHITHOLE EXPLAINED AT UNGODLY LENGTH BY TOLKIEN IN MIND-BLOWING DEPTH that it makes sense there wouldn't be enough resources.

>>
>>1525568

It's 100% known fact even with all the wartime propaganda that at least the original Green Men were genetically predisposed to have a strong aversion to violence and conflict, which is part of the reason they were viewed as trustworthy. It's also theorized that this is part of the reason why they went genocidal on humanity, because the constant fighting and squabbling inherent to the species was like constant sandpaper grating on them.
>>
>>1525547
It really is a shitty thing to throw in a campaign.

“Ladies and gentlemen, your attentioooooon please!” The Archen spins around, standing up from its throne and spreading its arms wide, “Welcome back! I won't say this third round is where things get serious, every candidate who passed the preliminaries is a certifiable ace, but this is certainly when our arena kicks it up a notch! Pillars!” The ornate red-and-pink mech snaps its fingers, and laser-carved, curved, oddly symmetrical blockades lower from the ceiling, completely obscuring certain avenues of line-of-sight. More barriers, of the same shape, rise out of the floor in the centermost ring of the arena, “This is the shape the arena will take for all successive rounds, barring the Special Event! Behold!” Red Siren dramatically gestures to where three spotlights shine down on the field, and from hidden compartments, a trio of mecha rise up, “In fairy tales, it's common for a brave knight to be challenged by three deadly lancers...well, common enough to inspire me, anyway! Let's give it up for our three Trench Champions! The Ulfberht will patrol the southern trench! The Templar will guard the northern trench! Last but never, ever, ever, ever, EVER least...our own dear Valkyrie will command the central trench! All three have been given strict instructions not to leave the trenches, no matter what! If a challenger lands in their domain, they will halt their patrolling and attack you with all of their might! If BOTH challengers land in their trench, well, they'll attack the closest one!

The heart-shaped visor of the Archen flickers, and displays Red Siren's own face. She winks. Or blinks, it's hard to tell, “...Let's give a big hand to our first two contenders. This is a battle of the parents! He's a beloved father figure to countless orphans, an inspirational instructor to junior Kestrel pilots, and a devout Reformed Catholic! Hailing from the Suleiman Colonies, our very own Iron Kestrel pilot, Maxwell Hammer of the Duuuuuutchmaaaaan!” She spins in place with a purple flash of her thrusters, and points to the other corner, “And over here, she's a devoted single mom juggling her career and her adopted son! Sergeant Mako Nunez of the UJCIDF, piloting her very own Pumpkinseed II Custom! Jupiter versus the Belt!” She points skyward, “Place your bets, ladies and gentlemen, because we're ready to rumble!”

You've got this.”

Maxwell Hammer holds his axe in both hands, mouthing a silent prayer. “...In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost, Amen.” He concludes, making the sign of the cross and thumbing a handle that controls the Dutchman's axe. Oh no, you're completely right. Just pointing out that Vegeta didn't actually kill anybody.

And Goku is dumb. Really dumb. At least they explained it with him having brain damage in DBZA but it's stupid as hell in normal DBZ.
>>

Holy shit I'm drunk. I forgot he was there for the dragon balls. Yeah I think I'm gonna go live off this shame.
>>
>>1525816

Yes. However (and Red Siren will bring this up at some point because I forgot to), if a contestant decides to be cheeky and try to "clear" a trench by hovering or crouching on the edge and shooting at the Trench Guardian, the guardian is allowed to leave the trench and attack them.

Pumpkinseed first, then. Moving to 1606 facing 1507.

Remember, yellow squares are one-hex-high walls. You can pop up over one, shoot, and drop pretty easily, but they're good at blocking attacks from a distance
>>
>>1525806
Oh, before I forget.
The Drillance of the Ulfberth is equiped with a beam cannon, not a projectile one.
I noticed that you confused that in one of your descriptions in the fight between the Templar and the Ulfberth.

1308 facing 1208.
>>
What happens if someone gets knocked into the hex above a trench? Do they fall in or do they just hover in place?
>>
>>1526003

They fall in but...if their turn is right after (the three neutrals automatically tie for last-place in initiative) they can fly back out. Or if they're lucky, the guardian is far away and can't get to them in time.

It's also canon from much earlier in the Amos arc that Irina's coworkers thought they were a stupid, dumb, bad idea and should be replaced with clusters of smaller munitions. Oh yes! I am going to blow up your active shield and then some! First I will move to 0810 facing 0811. Then I will drop both Grand crackers.. DIRECTLY ON THE SPACE ABOVE YOU! It's blast will trigger it's active shield and likely take it clean off with the first blast and do some damage with the second. I get a -1 due to the grenades, need to hit with a dc 12, and add one more to hit with both!. In short, I must roll a 1 to do this!
Then I will use my free move to drop back to 0809 and wheel my self about to provide cover with my shield by facing 0808. ABSOLUTE BULLY BLAST!

>>1526303
Or advanced shields from what wong said. Those are two 20 kill nades. The shield has 8 SP, armor 5, arm 5 kills. It's enough to cut right through the shield and armor to take out the limb. Then there is the second blast.
>>
>>1526318

>>
>>1526344
Nope. They are missile weapons after all. Did the same thing for them as I would any missile. Another one hits for each one above the success.
I will have to roll for the blast locations for the second if I recall. 4 d10s since it's 20 kills?
>>
>>1526318

Right-o. That's the Pumpkinseed II's left arm gone, and...for the second blast, roll four locations, each of which takes a 5K attack.

By default Pumpkinseed IIs carry their ranged weapon in their left hand, so that's where her rifle was. It wasn't hit, she could theoretically use an action to release her beam saber and grab it.

That's two hits to the torso (remaining SP 3, remaining Kills 7), one to each leg (remaining SP 4).

You'd also be 2 hexes above the trench since you would be flying instead of falling. Do they attack everything above the trench too?
>>
Oh, as for movement, Mako aped Maxwell by jetting up to 0810, firing down on him at near point-blank range, and then using her free movement to hop into 0811 facing 0812.

Your turn.
>>
>>1526515
Not to be a party pooper but I dont think you have the actions to grab the gun, fire the missile and fire the gun.

>>
>>1526533

If you are in the trench of in the hexes immediately above it you will be attacked if they can reach you. They will not attack anything to the sides, even on the edge of the trench.

>>1526535

>>1526583
>>1526595

I'd say that the same thing that stopped me from doing a dropkick stops you, but in retrospect that was a contentious ruling. See, here's the problem. You're attacking a mech roughly 15 meters tall, from atop a 50 meter cliff, in melee. You shouldn't be able to reach, but then, what you SHOULD be able to do is share a hex and that's a clusterfuck of abstractions. Eh, I'll let it be and suck up my mistake.

You do not get a back bonus for this, however. The back is still against a cliff.

Two luck.

>>
>>1526667

>>
>>1526649

And that's the fight! One weakness of EMWs comes into play, here, the fact that Mako was using a beam estoc is what stopped her from parrying!

Writeup in a minute. The quality of these writeups definitely deteriorated during the middle rounds when I frequently didn't know how to keep it interesting, but this time I wrote it as I did it so it went better.
>>
>>1526667
No, the +2 is already accounted for.
Its 16 vs 16 to be more exact.
>>
>>1526664
Even if he did, it should be 17 or 18 vs 16.

>>1526667
>>1526668
Wong's bonus already has the luck added to it.
>>
>>1526674
Oh right, I always forget that.

Welp, the Dutchman wins again.
>>
>>1526649
Well, I figured the wall would protect your back either way, but I usually think in 3D for some fights. So I just flip myself about to face you from above. Would likely cost MA, but it'd work and I was planning on running away to avoid the trench. Still, good game Wong. You almost got me again.
>>1526664
>>1526668
He's got a base dodge of 13+2 from luck, and then he rolled 1. I rolled 7 + 11 which is -3 from charge, then +1 from WA. So 16 versus 18.
>>
>>1526686
Yeah, figured that out after I realized that Wong added the luck bonus to the modifier.
>>
>>1526686
That makes sense... Sorry, I messed up the numbers.
>>
>>1526693
>>1526688
It was a tough fight either way. The Knights and the different platforms make it tougher to blitz right through and one idea I was thinking about was throwing the Pumpkinseed into the trench and feeding it to the Valkyrie.
No worries about the numbers from me. It happens. But this too was another splendid match. I am certainly thankful I didn't skimp on the armor!
>>
>>1526708
It is, but I'm getting the "John Cena wins lol" feeling from the Dutchman now. But that's just me being a bit salty since I did want the Pumpkinseed to win.

That's the power of the bully.

“Oh, and before I forget.” Red Siren remarks, “If you try to be sneaky and clear a trench by shooting at its guardian from the air or the edge of the chasm, they have full permission to leave the trench and pursue you until destroyed, so have a care! Furthermore, if you try to be cheeky and hover just above him, these darling cavaliers will assuredly fire on you as well! The trench includes the air directly above it!”

Ever since she saw the new layout of the arena, Mako's been planning how to utilize it. The first round wasn't particularly challenging, her opponent had been lucky to get out of the preliminaries unharmed, and she'd had time to consider using the pillars for cover. Her Pumpkinseed II Custom, upgraded with the same rifle design the Paladin-slayer Amos Wedge used, skims low over the arena's hull plates. She jumps the unoccupied outermost trench, runs using her mech's feet like a wuxia hero sprinting between jumps, and leaps into the air again, clearing the next trench in a bound that carries her right up to the edge of the innermost trench, within striking distance of the wall of one of the 50m 'bunkers'. Glancing dow, she can see the ornate pink head and glowing beam lance of the Valkyrie floating past her, and flashes a peace sign at it. It gives her a cavalier wave in response, but doesn't cease patrolling or lower its lance at all.

The Dutchman, for its part, jets north, crossing Magnarus' trench and ducking behind the floor-to-ceiling pillars. Maxwell knows he has the edge in melee, but not at range, not against the Pumpkinseed's guns and missiles. No, he has to trust in his mobility and luck this time.

Mako isn't eager to close with him, her next jump taking her over the first 'bunker' and setting her down on the other side. She puts her back firmly to the wall, having observed by now that the Dutchman has a penchant for attacking at unexpected angles and using unconventional mech-based martial arts, as expected of one of Starwind's subordinates.

...and as expected, the Dutchman comes roaring out of hiding, shifting 'southward' of her position, keeping its own back to a pillar as it throws down a grenade that unleashes a huge cloud of glittering chaff.

“Watching the rifle, huh? Keep watching, big guy.” Mako grins. She considers flying straight up and perching on the ceiling, but she can't be sure of the angle, so instead she zooms closer, around the central hill, staying close to the west-side 'bunker'. Lifting her mech's right arm, she taps a button on a joystick, a panel on the forearm sliding back to reveal a chubby, needle-nosed HE missile. She fires, cackling.

The Dutchman tries to dodge, firing bullets from a pair of small anti-missile guns on the sides of its head, and finally throws its shield in the way. It's not enough. The emergency missiles aren't true smart munitions, but their lockon is fairly advanced and it swerves to compensate each time, striking the Dutchman straight-on just below where the gut would be on a human and detonating with a ferocious boom. A collective gasp goes up from the crowd, the green mech's cuirass bent and battered and with armor plates missing to expose the circuitry beneath. “She shot me in the dick!” Maxwell whispers indignantly. “One more like that and I'm done for.” The warnings on his holographic display screens agree, showing that the Dutchman is barely holding together.

The purple Pumpkinseed II does a celebratory fistpump, “Yahoo, papa! Mama's home!” Mako grins. There goes that melee advantage, now all she has to do is land one single stab...and she crouches as the Dutchman charges, expecting a desperation attack and preparing to riposte, “You fool, my shield is...eh!?”

At the last moment, the Dutchman veers away, thrusters flaring as it leaps atop the bunker, turns, and pulls a large, spiky metal urchin from a magnetized holder on its belt, “THE LORD IS MY SHEPHERD! I SHALL NOT WANT!” Roars across the comms.

“...Oh sweet Minerva he's gone into a Christian rage!” Mako swears, throwing the shield up over her head. A detonation like a small sun roars just above her mech, and as the Pumpkinseed II reels back, she realizes that her shield is crumpled like tinfoil, peppered full of holes. Then that shrapnel has pierced so much of her mech's left arm that it's floating uselessly in zero-g like the withered stem of a flower. Snarling, she reflexively slashes it off with her beam rapier to avoid being slowed down, noting that her rifle, at least, is floating nearby...and just then, another grenade lands at her feet. “Oh for the love of...!” She leaps into the air, but the explosion sears her mech's legs and lower torso.

The Dutchman hops off the bunker and assumes a defensive stance on the other side of it from the howlingly mad Mako.

Even as angry as she is, she notes the position of the Valkryie carefully, “...What awful timing.” Mako clicks her tongue, and jets up onto the bunker, imitating the Dutchman's trick, “Hey, you, catch!” The panel concealing the second missile on the Pumpkinseed II's neck opens up, and launches.

The Dutchman's mono-eye swivels up towards the nearly point-blank shot, and fires its vulcans with the missile nearly equidistant between them. The missile explodes prematurely, and Mako stumbles back to fall off the bunker into the alcove opposite Maxwell, panting. Both mecha are close to each other, huddled with their backs to the wall, both damaged, and both down to nothing but their melee weapons. A grin spreads across her face. As much as she'd wanted to win, as much as she did it purely for the sake of survival for herself and Wyatt...this is fun. “You're not bad, preacher-man.” She tells him.

“I'm not an ordained priest, actually. Just a man who believes.” Maxwell responds soberly, “...But you're not half-bad yourself. How about we settle this, hand-to-hand?”

She grins, clutching her beam rapier. Her map has a note of where her discarded rifle is, but she doubts she'll have time to grab it, “Why the fuck not?”

He jumps the bunker, dropping down towards her. She lunges upwards, towards him. Their weapons meet...and the stronger blade of his beam axe breaks through the narrow beam rapier, sending ribbons of violet plasma flying in all directions as the axe bites deep into the shoulder of the Pumpkinseed II, peeling it open to the opposite hip. The cockpit ball pops out half a second before it would have been destroyed, and Maxwell hoists it high overhead. The Kestrels in the observation booths cheer loudly, while the orphanage director silently prays in thanks.

“...And it looks like that's the round! The Dutchman! The Dutchman is the winner!” Red Siren announces. The Knuckle Kaiser applauds, while the Archen zips over to lift up the Dutchman's arm in congratulations.

In one of the observation booths, Irina Gaunt sighs and downs her drink, glaring. Her boyfriend gives her a cautious look. She spots it, and smiles wanly, “Oh, don't worry about me. She got far enough against all of these high-end customs, elite mercenaries, and underground tournament designs, especially considering the Pumpkinseed II is meant to be high-end line infantry rather than an officer mech. Besides, it was very close, I just wish...” Her voice trails off when she sees Amos smiling, and her smile fills out in response, “Oh, to Pluton with it. I've won more than enough victories and enough glory. Sometimes it's okay to be content.” She leans against him, and sighs happily when he hugs her, “...But still, this an excuse to get drunk.”

In another pod, General Hermione Fairchild watches coldly, her lips pressed together into a thin, hard line, “Another failure.” She says dryly, “Well then, I suppose she really had outlived her usefulness.” She looks at her aide, and nods. Bethany Cabot smiles, and blows the General a kiss, understanding sparkling in her eyes.

“You're really not bad, Mister Not-a-Priest.” Mako remarks coyly as she's carried out of the arena, “Say, you know...that whole 'parenting' thing, you must know a lot about kids, right?”

“I would say a fair amount, yes, they just need kindness, love, and a good example to set them on the right path. I'm happy to give you any advice you ne-” He tries to answer, but she cuts him off.

“...Ever want more?” Her name and shark tattoos are remarkably apt with the unholy grin on her face.

Space is cold, but Maxwell Hammer feels himself sweating. Damn it, she managed to land one last hit after all!

300 on the Lightning to win his match.

300 on the Sagister to become Champion.

200 on the Dutchman to become Champion.

As multiple people have bet on each entrant, I'm gonna have to implement odds.

1/3 odds on the Lightning and the Sagister vs Dutchman has 3/2 odds.

In case you don't know how odds work, it's like so: betting on the Lightning in this case means for every 3 credits you bet you'll earn 1 credit back on top of your original bet. Betting 100 on the Lightning means you'll earn 33 credits in addition to the original 100 you bet. Betting 200 on the Dutchman means you'll earn 300 credits in addition to the 200 you bet.

Any suggestions?

>>1527930

Hmm, I'm gonna have to adjust odds slightly to account for combatants who don't have anything bet on them. Base bets start with 100 on each contestant with odds starting at 1/1. Thus the new odds would be.

Lightning Odds: 1/5

Libra Odds: 5/1

Sagister Odds: 1/2

Jaeger Odds: 2/1

Provisional Dutchman Odds: 4/3

Provisional Sagister Odds: 3/4

Provisional Odds will only matter if the Sagister actually wins its match.

“Aaaaand for our next match!” Red Siren announces, “A question that has been hotly debated throughout history...albeit somewhat...ahem...one-sidedly until the invention of mecha...” She coughs into her fist in a ladylike manner. “That being the supremacy of the gun versus the blade! We have two very different fighters for you today!” She gestures to the 'southwest' corner, “Iiiiiin this corner, the champion of the California Station Underground Gladiatorial League, James Mctickto-er, Macgrego-stupid me for not taking notes!” The Archen stomps its foot.

“McClintock, and you're cute when you do that.” The Knuckle Kaiser remarks, the eye-glow turning off and then back on on one side as it winks at the Archen.

Hearts shoot across the holographic display of the Archen's face, “Kyaaa, I'm so embarrassed! McClintock, yes! Piloting the ADF-01 Lightning! So far, he's been notable for how quickly his matches have finished, even when he takes damage! That sword is really a chopper, isn't it?”

“Oda says it's because the Lightning has the Spirit of Nippon and the pilot must be part Japanese.” Roarke Starwind remarks, as the Lightning proudly rises up from the floor and shoulders its sword.

“I don't know about that, but he's very cool!” Red Siren pumps her fist, then points at the other corner, where the knife-winged Libra is looming out of the shadows, “And over here...he's a professional mercenary with a stellar record for both performance and conduct, a true Hero of Justice, oh my!” She wags her finger, “But beware, Heroes of Justice are often horribly corrupted on Auditorium and...” Her voice becomes gleeful, “One of my pilots thinks he's just soooo dreamy and his hair is sooo pretty and she gets all bluuuuushy when I bring him up! I won't name names, but let's all wish her good luck whether he wins or loses, darlings~!”

The Valkyrie sinks down below the level of the trench, Kathrine turning off comms, “D-Damn it Rosita, I told you that as a friend, in confidence!” She groans.

“Anyway, his name is Alexander Grant, and he's piloting the Pumpkinseed Custom 'Libra'! A true dose of western justice dispensed from the barrel of a projectile cannon! Good luck, both of you!” She raises her hand, and the fireworks that signal the start of the match go off behind her.

Under parrys in the core book. Melee weapons and EMWs use their WA as DA while other weapons like guns and crap are base -2.
>>
>>1529458
I think I remember that argument. There was talk of parrying with a beam weapon and wondering if the parry level would be like the energy shield. So the +1 would be a -2.
>>
>>1529476
Actually its under defense ability sorry.
>>
>>1529458
When using a melee weapon to
party, its Kills rating is treated like the SP
of a Shield (i.e., any attack it Parries lowers
its Kills by one, no matter what the
damage inflicted by the attacking
weapon was).

Under Parry rolls of Core Rulebook
>>
>>1529471
>>1529476
I could have sworn the EMW's had a -3, and physical weapons had a -2 to parrys, with the WA of the weapon lessening the penalty, or outright negating it. Because that's why I gave the bayonet a +2 WA

Give me a regular old lager. I don't want it too sweet, and I don't like IPAs despite most of my office loving them and therefore trying them on several occasions, it's just the melon aftertaste gets to me.

If I can't have a beer, give me something strong without an excessively boisterous taste, such as a 90-proof vodka, mixed with soda and a generous helping of straight lemon juice. Wine is good too, but only at events that call for it or when having dinner with the family, not for when I just want to drink.

“Well Jim, it looks like this is it.” Alexander Grant laconically remarks, “Libra, launching!”

“Looks like it.” McClintock responds, “Kind of a shame, though, I was hoping we'd meet in the last round.”

The Libra's pilot shakes his head, “No, it's better this way. There aren't any guarantees in a tournament like this, the fact that we definitely get to fight is better than me having to avenge you later or something.”

“What!? You asshole! It would be me avenging you!” McClintock growls. “Lightning, strike!”

The Libra takes off first, coasting low to the ground in the open and stopping at the edge of the Templar's trench, taking a knee and lifting its rifle high to aim. There's no point playing with cover at this juncture.

...At least, not for him. Uncharacteristically, James ducks behind a bunker, sword held tight in both hands, “Not gonna be that easy, buddy.” He grins behind the visor of his helmet.

“I wasn't expecting it to be.” Alexander responds, smiling as the passing Valkyrie peeks up at him from the edge of the central trench. He waves to her, and she waves back shyly. It's almost his doom, the moment his mech's head tilts downward away from the bunker the Lightning is crouched behind, it leaps above it and roars towards him in a flash. For all of his brashness, James McClintock isn't the champion for nothing.

Lady luck is on his side tonight, though, the Libra spins around and dodges the powerful downward slash that would have otherwise bisected his mech. Keeping his cool, Alexander opens fire, golden tracer rounds streaking the air. The Lightning activates its right-side jets and sidesteps the stream, bringing its oversized katana swinging up and around back into a ready stance, the harsh spotlights gleaming off its blade. He surges forward, expecting the Libra to retreat, and nearly loses his arm as the beam bayonet snaps on and the knife-winged mech surges forwards towards the red one. At the last second, he interposes the flat of his blade with swordsmanship worthy of a Storm Dragon ace, the metal warping and burning, but holding.

It's not exactly cool to give vent to a battle cry, but this is it. This is their destined duel, at last. “URYAAAAAAH!” McClintock howls, widening his stance and sweeping the huge sword around. Once. Twice. Three times. Four times. The pieces of the Libra fall away, glowing with heat at the edges, and the cockpit ball flies past his shoulder...

...where the Valkyrie catches it, throwing aside her beam lance and leaping voidward to catch the ball and cradle it protectively in her arms.

“Congratulations, Jim.” Al's voice crackles ruefully over the comms, “I guess it's true, you really do have the spirit of a champion.”

The blonde-haired man grins, hoisting his blade over his shoulder, “It was damned close, Al.”

“It's too late to pick up modesty, justice is already against you.” The dark-haired one grins, “There's something I want you to do for me, though.”

“Yeah, I know. Win this whole damned thing, right? Show the Kaiser there that he's not the only hero to come outta California Station.” The red and white mech tilts its head back, regarding the black and white titan on its throne.

“No. That's not it at all.” Alexander's voice is reproving, “Win or lose, we all put on a great show. A lot of pilots I've flown with before, superb ones I'd trust with my life, went down in the first round. There's a reward at the end of this, but...that's just for you, winning the championship won't mean a thing to me. Jim, build a life for yourself.”

“What do you mean, 'build a fucking life for myself'? I'm James Fucking McClintock.” The Lightning's head swivels over its shoulder to face the cockpit ball, slightly detracting from Red Siren's showboating as the Archen lands and hoists the Lightning's sword-arm high.

“The winner is James McClintock and the ADF-01 Lightning! Good show! Even if I may have admittedly lost a few credits to Captain Oda on this one...”

“TEN MILLION TIMES FOLDED BY THE FINEST ARTISANS WITH THEIR RITUALLY PURIFIED HAMMERS, EACH BLOW INSTILLING THE VIRTUES OF A SUPERIOR EASTERN CULTURE! A DIFFERENT MASTER FOR EVERY STAGE OF ITS DESIGN AND CREATION! BEHOLD THE SPIRIT OF GLORIOUS NIPPON IN THE NIHONTO NO-DACHI OF JIM-KUN! CAPABLE OF FLAWLESS BATTOJUTSU TO SURPASS ALL OTHER SWORDS! PROVEN TO CUT THROUGH A TANK WITH A SINGLE SLASH!” Bellows an enthusiastic voice over the emergency announcement comms, “RRRRRRESPLENDENT WITH BUSHIDO! SUGOI, TRULY SUGOI!”

“Uwaaah! Taichou-sama! Taichou-sama, control yourself please! I can't romance Victor-kyun if you get us locked uuuuup!” A smaller voice protests.

“Get him away from there! Security forces, you are authorized to use your stun batons on Captain Oda!” Red Siren snaps, shaking her fist in the general direction she assumes he's in. “Lock the doors on the communication room! Keep him out!”

There's a sound uncommonly like Roarke Starwind trying to hold in laughter.

Alexander's brow furrows, he's trying to be deep here, “Listen, Jim. You've lived as a celebrity, but that's no way to spend your entire life. Even the Admiral up there built a community, a family. You should too. You're more than just a mecha jockey, you're a man who could be a hero to others. I want to see how far you can go, what destiny is written in your stars. Go out and live it. As for me, I've had an offer from Captain Flint, and I'm thinking I might take him up on it. His crew doesn't have any officers currently, just himself and his squad leaders with varying degrees of seniority, and he's looking for someone to fill in the gaps as the Stone Soldiers expand. Auditorium isn't a bad place to live, and neither are the other Kestrel colonies. It's a chance to live for something besides my next job and maybe, just maybe, I can finally pay off what I owe. Don't just view this tournament as another payday. Do something with it.”

Jim shrugs, “You know what? Maybe I will. Maybe this competition of ours doesn't end here, maybe it's just beginning. Folded a million times, huh?” He looks speculatively at his sword. An idea strikes.

Like lightning.

No, I mean without it being in wing form, would it be stuck with being grounded like the Blitz? Meaning that to fly up it would have to go to wing form and not kick. It'd give it an advantage by forcing it into a gun fight instead of a melee match. That flamethrower can really hurt it.
>>
>>1530283

The Blitz also had high MA and yet it couldn't fly. High mobility doesn't mean flight in some forms. It's why the Blitz had issues with the trenches. If it doesn't get the flight bonus from having wings, then it could be stuck like the Blitz on the ground.

During its last battle Wong let it jump at least 7 hexes in one action.

Thats not really a disadvantage.. unless that means humanoid mechs can fly in reverse. That opens up things.
>>
>>1530332
Dunno thats just what it says in the ATM. If you want disadvantages they got the -1 MA and no hands. They also walk backwards at half MA but since Big Bird only has 50 land MA I dont know if its going anywhere. Actually if it only has 50 land MA does it get a free running action? Pretty sure you cant run 25 meters after all.
>>
>>1530332
Hybrids can
>>
>>1530350
Not really much a disadvantage considering thats the same penalty beast has, but the bird gets more from it. I still stick by the 'need wings to fly' for the bird. Otherwise you can just make it a torso and head, get a flying melee tank and say it's a bird.
>>
>>1530365
Well bird does cost more to be fair. Also helicopter blades apparently counts as a form of bird flying and a helicopter is basically a flying tank.
>>
>>1530377
Except you do not pay more than the beast form since you do not transform. So you do not pay that 0.35 modifier. The Helicopter also seems to be atmosphere only and a hot mess in it's own right.
Basically you are saying it's ok, because you have a higher pricetag you don't pay for and that you aren't a helicopter which no one touched due to those issues.
>>
>>1530411
I'd say a helicopter could fly in space if it had the thrusters as well. Only reason a tank or a beast cant fly is because they cant use thrusters. If it cant get the bonus without wings or whatever thats reasonable enough but not being able to fly at all is a bit arbitrary. But whatever, if Wong says it cant fly without transforming thats no skin off my back.

Anyone know how to make a 6 legged bug mech viable? You're basically wasting CP and weight on all the legs.
>>
>>1531403
I guess it makes them tankier at range though.
>>
>>1531424
Wait, I completely forgot about targeting computers. That would help.

But still, if I made the torso Light Heavy and skimped on the legs so they're Heavy Striker, they would still add 24 extra CP and 12 tons of weight. I guess it does have 24 more spaces, but that's all it gives other than more locations to hit, and it really doesn't seem worth it.
>>
>>1531451
Could give it six linked melee weapons I guess. Really its one of those situations where mekton is pretty poor for actually building mechs, like how really heavy mechs are gimped.
>>
>>1531499
Actually, I'm making it based off of a picture, and I've thought of a cheesy way to reduce the weight now that I've thought about it more. It won't do anything about the cost, but I'll cross that bridge when I get to it.

I wish that Metaform Leg option wasn't just for transforming mechs, but I can see why they made it the way they did. It could end up being really cheesy
>>
>>1531526
I think kiritos mech has metaform legs for arms. Pretty sure he uses them to go all general grievous.
>>
>>1531451
uh... iirc theres a metaform option to split one leg into many legs, so just get 2 really big legs and have then split into 3 legs each or something?
>>
>>1531403
Metaform legs give an example of use.

But you could just fluff a leg with 6 kills of structure as 3 legs with 2 kills each. When one leg loses 2 kills it counts as an insect leg being destroyed.
>>
>>1531556

“And nooooow, for our final match!” Red Siren announces, “Let's have a little change of pace, shall we?” She gestures to the two mecha rising up from their bays, “In ancient times, gladiators fought not only against other gladiators, but also against an array of fearsome beasts! Tigers, wolves, giraffes, rhinoceri, baboons, the monsters of three continents flooded the Coliseum! Yet never did they have a creature such as this...the mechanized terror bird of Mars, the M-SAGISTER! Piloted by Lady Marciana Sparna of the Martian city of New Brussels, it's crushed and torn its way through the competition thus far!”

The Archen spreads its arms and indicates the other corner, “And here comes the hunter, the aptly-named Pumpkinseed Jager! This customized mech has been heavily reinforced, remodeled, and recustomized over and over by...errr...daaaaarling! Why is his name listed as 'Not Available'!?” Red Siren's mech crosses its arms and looks expectantly at the Knuckle Kaiser, tapping its foot impatiently.

“Er, we don't know his name, sorry.” Roarke Starwind shrugs. “Everyone just calls him Skunk.”

“Why Skunk? I met him and despite him never taking off his environment suit he seemed like a very nice man. Such a wonderful listener, positively grandfatherly.” Red Siren questions.

“Well, according to the crew, one of the kids we foster caught a glimpse of him from behind taking off his gas mask, and he has a stripe in his hair, so...it stuck.” The Kaiser shrugs again.

“That's a terribly unkind nickname! Poor old fellow.” Red Siren's voice is full of compassion.

The Jager gives a thumbs-up, and Roarke's mech shrugs for a third time, “See? He's fine with it. That's the pirate life for you.”

“Yes, I suppose it really is...but I don't give MY crew nicknames like that!” Red Siren huffs, her mech's posture conveying her pout even without the sensor mask displaying a holographic image of her face.

“There's no point in raising a stink over Skunk. As I said, he's happy with it. It's better than calling him 'hey, you'.” Roarke protests.

“Well, who else has a nickname like that?” Red Siren questions.

“...Does Miles Longshadow count?” Roarke asks speculatively.

“Y-you mean that's not her real name? I...I just thought her parents had a terrible sense of humor.” The Archen's pose becomes pensive, “That might be worse than Skunk, honestly.”

“Well, my nickname was...” Roarke protests.

“Your nickname was adorably goofy!” Red Siren interrupts, “I'll bully Miles' real name out of her later! For now, let's start the fight!” She points upwards, poses dramatically, and the fireworks to signal the start of the fight erupt from the ceiling.

I want a cinematic fight today.
>>
oh yeah, 1 question, using a ram/tackle etc is the end of the move action, can you still use stuff to move after that?
>>
>>1543017
So... Hit, Special or Cinematic?
Choose wisely.
>>1543051
Apply crit as normal, then repercutive dmg hits the same target if it is still existing.
Or at least that is my humble opinion.
>>
>>1543049
Thats right! Sagi gets a penalty for that! -2 in fact. Your tackle would succeed.
>>
>>1543054
Interesting, control jam on Cinematic. Constant -2.
>>
>>1543054
Controler jam! Thats a -2 to ALL rolls.
>>
>>1543049
>Sagister is in the Knight pit.
Its in time like this that I get so happy that I had the honor to help design the Ulfberth....
>>
uh tackles only send targets forward so I'd be in 0916 wouldn't I?

since the tackle description is 'into the next hex'
>>
>>1543080
Nope, it only pushes into the next hex. The Jager just pushed the Sagister into the spot where he was before he tackled.
>>
>>1543054

Control Jam, all actions are at -2 until the Sagister's pilot makes a basic repair roll at DC 15 (I'm trying to remember what the basic skill modifier for tourney pilots was, if anyone remembers please tell me) which would take at least an action. Torso takes 1/2 damage.

So, -1 Torso SP (9 remaining). It will lose more SP on the next couple of rounds, but the Sagister's chest armor is ridiculous.

That's also a successful Tackle, knocking the Sagister into 1017 and costing it an action.

The Sagister CAN use that action to get out of that trench before the Ulfbehrt arrives, of course.
>>
>>1543060

Yes. So theoretically you could use your one action this turn to leap out of the pit, circle to build up speed, and ram or dropkick him.
>>
>>1543088
he'd have to have tackled me from 1015 to knock me into the trench I thought?
>>
>>1543088
Jager moved to 1217, not 1216.
>>
>>1543096
I mean 1116
>>
>>1543086

This is actually a good point. It IS next hex, so 1016 and no threat of an Ulfbehrting. I misread that!
>>
>>1543085
Yup.
>>1543097
Unfortunately. Ah well. It wouldnt have gone through if I hadn't.
>>
>>1543097

1217 is actually a very good spot for him because with the way he's facing his back is to the wall. On the other hand, he's facing down the Sagister with its chest cannons, tearing claws, and dropkicks and in this position it CAN reach him and attack in one action.
>>
>>1543110
His flanks aren't covered though. That -1 could be killer.

I also can't recall if the Sagister transformed yet. If it hasn't, they're in a lot of trouble.
>>
>>1543110
I walked again into 1317 as well by the way. Also Sagister still has turn to face me.
>>1543121
He has.
>>
so.. my turn now? I'd like to use my land MA to turn to face 1216 and then I'd like to attempt repairs, though I don't know what modifier to roll... Say can I put out the incendiary crap with the fire retardant foam in my damage control package?
>>
>>1543110
About the skill rolls for Tourneygoers...
If I'm not mistaken, the last time it was mentioned was during the valk fight, where the Blitz had to roll to avoid hitting those nasty Shadow clones.

I think it was +13 or +12.
>>
>>1543128
Can you move on land with the free walk action? I guess you round up the 25 to 50?
>>
>>1543110
>>1543128
WAIT.
It really has the fire retardant.

>DAMAGE CONTROL PACKAGE (1 CP. 1 Space (torso))
>ATM quote:
>This is an option package for emergency situations, such as bailouts, forest fires, etc. Fire-retardant foam will put out fires up to four mecha-scaled hexes in size. Glue bombs will cover an area two mecha scaled hexes wide, sealing areas in space environments that may have been breached to vacuum. Flares can be seen up to 10 kilometers away. The liferaft holds four people and contains food, water and medical supplies for one week. The bubble raft is a space-going version of the liferaft, resembling a giant plastic bubble with mylar sunscreens at top and bottom; inflated from the inside, it holds four people and contains air, food, water and medical supplies for four days. All of these goodies are crammed into a package that takes up only 1 Space from your mecha"

Can it use it to avoid getting more flame dmg?

>>1543143
He can turns two hexes per 50m...
So he could turn 1 hex with the free moviment I guess... Because of his 25m walking speed.
>>
>>1543143
I mean I'm, just turning and I have a land MA of 1, not 0.5
>>
>>1543150
Well, Running is half of your total land MA, so you can move at full MA with one action. But since you have 1 land MA, you'd have a 25 meter free move. Half a hex, basically.
>>
>>1543128

You are the most reluctant to straight-up attack the Jager. It's baffling with all the damage you do. Marciana must just have a soft spot for old people.

You can put out the fire, but it takes one action.
>>
Rolled 4 + 12 (1d10 + 12)

>>1543159
eh a drop kick apparently doesn't get all my nice AP and quick modifiers to it right? its seems less than useful...plus i'm at -2 so its even less likely to hit...

so I'd like to roll for a repair after changing my facing towards the jager as much as possible, I'm assuming a modifier of +12

>>
>>1543228

Oh, I misinterpreted you and thought you wanted to fly OUT of the trench. Yeah, you can do that, but be careful because the Ulfberht has nothing stopping it from turning around. Is that what you wanted to do?
>>
>>1543235
Nah, time to go big or go home since my power is gone. walk to 1117 and 4 melee attacks to the legs.

Ignore the last two attacks, I just realized with turning there's no way to reach the Sagister with free move. That's one crit (thruster malfunction), one dodge.

The Sagister shoots forward at its full speed, ramming into the wall at 1414. -2 torso SP (one from the impact, one from the last of the fire damage, 6 SP remaining.

It's the Jager's turn again. Jager, are you still there?

The Jager launches in a heartbeat while Marciana is distracted by the couple talk between Roarke and Rosita along with figuring out the best route to reach him. The modified Pumpkinseed...which is functionally more like a Morgan II UJCIDF standard by this point in terms of weight and size...leaps across the first two trenches and takes a knee, drawing its flamethrower and aiming.

Marciana sniffs indignantly, “How positively Skunkish of you, Skunk. Tsch, I'm no duck to be shot down like that.” She wheels south, keeping cover between him and her, until she reaches the floor-to-ceiling pillars at the bottom of the map, winging her way into an alcove like a bird into its nest and transforming back into the Sagister's legged form.

Skunk doesn't move. He considers hopping back into the outermost trench and firing off a shot, but refrains. It's just a little too far for him to reach before the Sagister has time to react, in his experienced opinion. No, he waits, patient as a stone...and at last, the bird charges.

The M-Sagister leaps out from its hideaway, kicking off the opposite wall of the trench and landing next to the Jager, kicking out at it and trying to knock it into the pit. Skunk darts to one side, barely avoiding it, his flamethrower already tracking as he fires at point-blank range.

Ghostly plasma washes across the front of the Sagister, and Marciana curses prettily as her controls lock up, multiple error warnings flashing across her screens. Her mech is still responding, but sluggishly, and as she wrestles with it she sees the Jager charging around her and tackling her from behind, knocking her mech away, “Hmph! Stubborn old man!” She growls to herself, “At least you're a challenge!” She wheels around, focusing through a litany of mental commands to help stabilize the HMIS link, using tricks her late husband taught her to reestablish control. She looks up just in time to see the Jager lumbering towards her, its glaive raised high. It jams it between the armored plates on the Sagister's chest like a knight challenging a dragon, sparks flying from severed circuitry. It barely avoids getting trampled as the Sagister's thrusters overload and send it flying into a wall, further cracking the chest armor.

“Why? Why can't I just squash you!?” Marciana snarls, her mech trying to rise...and then, abruptly, the Jager is behind it. She ducks away from its tackle, but it grabs her by the leg and spins her around like a sling, hurling her down into the trench. Right at the feet of the Valkyrie. Her powerplant sparks, then her entire mech goes dead.

“Sorry, Marcy.” Kathrine says in a quiet voice, prying open the chest armor the cockpit ball. On the edge of the trench, Skunk hoists his glaive high. “Mmmph-mmmpph mmmmph!” He announces, as the Archen lands and takes its arm, hoisting it high overhead.

“One last monster down?” Finn Bodvarsson frowns, watching the fight on a viewscreen in a bar, “No, my friend. The son of Bodvar believes you have more monsters yet to slay.”

“And the hunter has defeated the beast!” Red Siren crows, “The Jager wins!”

As the three trench guardians gather to help Marciana and her downed mech out of the arena, three spotlights come on, “Let's hear it for our Round Three Champions! The Dutchman!”

The mono-eyed, spike-shouldered, green mech with its gasmask face steps forth into one pool of light, axe point-down against the floor with hands folded on its pommel.

“The Lightning!” Red Siren announces.

The red-and-white, slick-armored mech with its V-fin crest steps forward into the next pool of illumination, legs apart and sword casually slung across its shoulders with its arms draped over it, the very picture of casual and cool.

“And the Pumpkinseed Jager!” She pats Skunk's mech on the shoulder, and steers him forward. He steps into the final spotlit place, his glaive held with the butt on the ground and point presented like a soldier standing guard, “These three will participate in the Special Event! None of the three, regardless of their performance, will be disqualified...but the winner gets to skip a round and automatically gets a spot in the final match! The other two will square off in the semi-final match before the champion of that duel goes to face the winner of the Special Event in the final bout! Good luck everyone! Good show to everyone who participated! Let the skies thunder with applause!” She spreads her arms wide, standing behind the three victors, “...And to our beloved audience, I say this! Eat! Drink! Kiss someone! Make love whether or not you regret it later! Party even though the concert hasn't begun yet! Tomorrow, we'll outdo ourselves all over again!”
>>
>>1543462
Ah, so it's a 3 way match with the winner being in the finals while the other two fight for the other spot.

Honestly, I think that's just having a bite by default and that anything that has a head servo with a built-in melee weapon can fluff it as a bite.

As a side-note, despite its apparent jobbing the Squilla is actually really optimized...for when its mandrake is working.

You forgot the Vietnyan.
But no one can really forget Vietnyan.
I still have the nightmares... of long sessions fulled by implyed ancient evils, fear of betrayal and the everlasting horror of not being roarke.
>>
>>1543573
hmm well I got it too 184.25 cp, and since it has a tail instead of legs it can grapple things and then bite their heads and arms off

I don't know if you're still there Wong, but I had an interesting idea for the second gen tourney event.

IF you are interested in having a second tourney.

Maybe we could submit the characters a good while before the event itself, that way you could have plenty of time to introduce them naturally along the plot is it unfolds and create opportunities for certain types of characters to appear.

So you would have more Robert Dubois(recorrent plot character) types and less parachute-dropped ones...

Am I being naive again? Or there is any sense in my words?

Just trying to help, sorry if its a bad idea.
>>
>>1543668
Eh, sorry for the bad english, the sleepness is probably already taking its toll on me.
>>
I just realize that most of the 2 out of 3 finalists are based on Pumpkinseeds mechs. Pumpkinseeds also took down a Paladin and the elite mook variants gave Roarke a hell of a rough time. Only 3 times did Roarke ever faced more danger and those were from captains and a damaged Paladin.
>>
>>1543668
If we ever have the MSPQ-II. Also, I'm not really a big fan of player-submitted NPCs as some anons go full autismo if OP doesn't accommodate their special donut steel snowflake. Case in point, Valkyrie-anon after losing the fight against Blitz.
>>
>>1543668
It was fun, the tourney did what we need it too, it gave us some interesting characters, but we NEVER should do it again.
>>
>>1543687
>>1543692
I would third this, as I am definitely feeling the full autismo myself.

I need to stop.
>>
>>1543687
It brought the levels of austim in other areas down by concentrating it all on the characters, but in the end Wong got control of it with minor damage(I think that only Valk dropped out, the rest calmed down after getting some attention or just joke occasionally).
And about the quality of the characters themselfs... The truth is that we only give a few directions to Wong about how they should be, but he create them almost from scrath and bring their existence to the same level of awesomeness as the rest of his art in the end.

Akai for example has just a short description if I'm not mistaken, and Wong changed a minor detail in her background to what he considered to fit better... And I don't regret that happening, because she ended up even better than what I expected.

Some of the characters maybe don't seem to really fit in yet... But we needed oficials for our ships anyway, and Wong would probably have a bad time creating twenty quirky individual NPCs just to flavour some minor positions... That way we helped him by throwing some cool ideas and letting him choose what could fit and what not.
>>1543692
It was fun, but I think that there is no reason to do it another time... But seriously, we should take a good time before such big event, at least more fifty threads or so... I'm not suggesting doing a tourney soon, this one should be enough for a good time.

But hey, who knows about the future?

>>1543704
Nah, you're too worried about a few fanfics, it was fun and didn't bring problems to people.

...And now I'm curious about if sato is ever going to see Izumi again.

Seriously.

Another thing, in which ship would you charactes prefer working at?

Or course, IF we they survive the tourney... because we are probably going to get raided before this ends.

The only thing I go full 'tism about is my mech.

It's my baby.
>>
>>1543680
Mines based off a pumpkinseed 1 if that means anything.
>>1543692
This. We should just do like hive queen quest and argue autistically about new mechs in the future.
>>
>>1543735
Oh, well, thanks, I guess.

Also, if Walter is going to stay (which depends on what Wong wants to do), he'd hop on the same ship that Alex and Gareth would go, so he'd be most likely working with the Stone Soldiers.
>>
>>1543744
My true objective in disscussing future tourneys involve the fact that I'm having ideas for some new mechs but my mekton-engeneering-school-of-creating-mechs is based on the concept of "The mech should be a mirror of the heart of its pilot".
>>
>>1543735
Alexander's bio was literally 'Dude with a debt, interests: astronomy' so I'm pretty happy with how Wong is handling him.

>>1543744
Mine too, although in truth it's mostly because I used the pumpkinseed's stats as a base to build off of.
>>
>>1543756
Kinda feels good that I decided to take the Morgan II as a base, if only to have been different.

As for me, I've thrown out ideas, but I know that I largely gave up control to Wong when I made Walter. So far, it's been fine.
>>
>>1543755
Not building a mech first and then coming up with a pilot
>>1543756
The first one I came up with that I was thinking would make a good cheap mook was almost exactly the same as a pumpkinseed one so thats how I decided that.
>>
>>1543751
So... Garret, Alex, Walter and Bradley in the Stone soldiers...

Don't worry, even he ends up going away back to Palley's he is probably be back before Gen II.

...And I'm almost sure that we are going to visit Palley soon, anyway.

Also, If Jim is okay with it, Oda would probably be happy to have him aboard, maybe he even gets to be First mate and stuff.

Magnarus is going back to Avalon(to go in adventures with Ceasar and "only the Lady knows who" that ends ups in that trio.)

Victor is still in Lori's service(at least I think, he may want to go protect Akai in the Yamato or something).

Maxwell has a lot of children to pay attention to... But will probably going to protect the colony too.

I don't think that Lucca is found of the pirate's life.

Skunk is already in, working on Psyche-16 if I'm not mistaken.

What about the rest?

>>1543756
>>
>>1543756
>>1543778
My bio is:
>Pilot: Akai Inazuma(Storm Dragon's name)(16 years old)
>A teenager girl that became the Storm Dragons collective imouto a few year back when she and her father joined the crew, her father was killed by first mate and now Akai is decided on making her debut as a pilot, she also developed a serious case of chuunibyou as a coping mechanism to deal with her father's death...

Wong added some stuff that me and Victor were joking about during the sessions... But that was it.
>>
>>1543778
Skunk is apparently one of Basil's subordinates.
>>
>>1543800
So he is going to be in the Rhinehawk?
He is closer to the spotlight than the rest then.
>>
>>1543735
I'm pretty sure that most of how Robert ended up is because I was incredibly vague about him. Think I wrote a total of two sentences "about" him. Had I the chance to do it over, I definitely would have put more thought and effort into the pilot.

On the other hand, I had a blast making the mech and have even tried my hand at the ATM spaceships. https://pastebin.com/5vf3ut4R
>>
>>1543806
Dunno. Presumably there would be at least one team of them on the rhinehawk.
>>
>>1543806
How often have you seen Basil?
>>
>>1543823
And Basil can at least carry a conversation.
>>
>>1543815
I'm sure that even if you had made an entire paragraph about him Wong would still made him in a cool way... Look at Garret, he is the one with the biggest background I believe, and he still turned out great.

In the end, its more about Wong mad skillz and being okay with your concept than about how long is your character description.

And that is why I don't think that there was that much autism about it, no one really wnats to stain their characters in Wong's view.

>>1543823
>>1543832
KEK. Good point.

>>1543820
Maybe Wyatt?
Maybe Finn and May would prefer being closer to the focus of the action too.
>>
>>1543778
McClintock would probably request for a special independent unit of his own, Raptor Squad. Just ADF-01x Variants whose sole objective is to take down officer mechs.

That seems like a good idea, but that is only going to be possible after we start mass producing them, and even then they would have to choose a ship, no?
>>
I will say this and only this because I'm falling asleep and super incoherent.

Round One of the tournament was the closest this quest has come to breaking me. My brain was completely stalled out by the end. This is why some of the Round Two fights either had me so fuzzy-headed or doing writeups days after the fight, because I was still recovering from an almost complete burnout. Round Three, to me at least, is a VERY noticeable improvement.

Some of the Caesar sections basically existed to help heal my mental scars by giving me a chance to write one coherent character for a while.
>>
>>1543878
So no more tournaments with shitty one-note characters involving anons with just a bit too much ego, gotcha.

Seriously, though, I'm glad to hear you didn't burn out. This is by far my favorite quest and I love just hanging out and talking about dumb mech mechanics with the other players.
>>
>>1543735
Prior to this, 90% of the autism were from the two namefags namely you and thunder.

Thunder trying to convince everyone to shoot everything and rolling stupidly well on seductions.

And you trying to correct Wong and being told SO many times that your math was wrong, and padding threads by 300 - 500 replies with drama about your life in Brazil and things like your dog dying.

And occasionally Wong going on rants about right-wing American politics.

So overall, the autism hasn't really gotten any worse. Thunder is still trying to convince everyone to kill everything. You're still shitposting except it's now about your weeb avatar which is honestly more interesting than your shitposts about your life getting cucked in Brazil. Your math is still wrong a lot, but by god do you do a whole bunch of it for everyone else so I'd call that breaking even.

This tournament has been awesome, but it needs to never ever happen again and I hope everyone that namefags after it's over gets hit by a car and dies.

You know that I especially mean you, since I doubt you'll stop.
>>
>>1543778

Gen II is purely hypothetical if it happens at all and I over-encouraged speculation about Roarke's kids, before I started seriously considering the later plot. A lot of the problems I thought Gen II would involve dealing with make more sense to crop up while Roarke's young, active, and dealing with them.

There's several more months of material here, at least.

...and that fantasy quest I really want to run. Reign is the perfect system for quests because I can have you guys spam d10s and use them all and there's even more TENSION because five of you rolling a 2 in a row is actually a super good result. I narrowed down the starting character choices to three, unfortunately, but now they're ALL good and all have material whether you play as Mage, Thief, or Knight.

Thank you for your hard work Wong.
No word to come out of my texts would be enough to thank you enough for your patience, effort, skill and valor.
Thank you so much, for creating this and letting us, complete strangers, experience so much emotions, dread, joy, fear and relief together.

If we ever met, I would feel obliged and honored to repay your kindness.

I don't know what you meant with the "Round Three, to me at least, is a VERY noticeable improvement." part, but I will question you no more about it.

Again, from the bottom of my heart, if my true words are worthy something, thank you.
>>
>>1543910

Thank you too. When I say it's an improvement, I mean that sometimes writing is easy and just flows out, and sometimes it's laborious and has to be forced. It's been easier lately.
>>
>>1543899
I'm not going to disscuss this at length because I'm sleepy and it would only lead to another torrent of acussations and trade of blows...

But if you want to reduce the shitpost and austim to a minimum and keep 99% of the posts being about the quest you just need to create a discord serve to bait people into austistic screeching there to spend their ammo and not bother clogging the threads with random things.

But there seems to be some sort of unspoken agreement that it also take away the flavour of random disscussion (Like music, videos of robots fighting, random anime suggestions more exotic things that sometimes come up without I even getting involved....) and that is not metioning the mekton making disscussions.

About my levels of shitpost... Man, I'm not really trying anymore, acussing me of continuing this is somewhat void now, I do some avatarfagging jokes... But its mostly just stir things a little by giving people things to make fun at or hate...

I've been through some hard things that I hinted at during my replies to Cali... and now I just don't feel the energy anymore to really shake things... So I just throw the ball back sometimes because people seem to have fun at throwing it at me, be it in jokes or be it in hate.

That comment of "giving you an enemy to fight" wasn't that far from the truth in the end... Thats why I help people in math or in feeding their ideas for mechs and characters too.

And I would do even more if I had the means too, I even started drawing and planning on doing handraw art for the quest as we have too few drawfags... But I didn't get the time or inspiration to pratice, I'm somewhat too emotionally exhausted for it now.

>This tournament has been awesome, but it needs to never ever happen again and I hope everyone that namefags after it's over gets hit by a car and dies.
>You know that I especially mean you, since I doubt you'll stop.
I love you too anon, even if you hate me, okay?

>>1543946
I'm not worthy you thanking me back ;-;
But I get what you're talking about now, I've been through it many times in my own writting and seen professional writers struggle at it sometimes.
>>1543901
Oh yeah... I had forgotten about it.

All options seem nice, I wouldn't know what to choose either.
>>
>>1543989
IMHO, the shitposts here are kinda prevalent because Wong's been using the same thread for more than 3 sessions straight before archiving it. And the time period between session is filled with anons who stay long after Wong expires for the night.

I am here so much in the off time because the sessions start at 2 am for me.

I honestly would like the REIGN quest, if only to let you run something different.

Discord is also toxic to a quest since it causes namefags to make co-ordinated voting.

I mean if Wong wants to play only with the kind of faggots that insist on having names then that's up to him. But that's where you get TrickQM levels of faggotry and trolling

Also you're not a hero for namefagging just a vain asshole with nothing going on IRL. All the positive things you do, you could do without needing to namefagging

Actually...and I apologize for this...game will be next Tuesday after all. This is a big scene and needs more time to write and chew over rather than being done in a hurry, plus the special event won't take more than one session. Thus next week will have the dinner and special event, and the week after the semi-finals and finals.
>>
>>1547055
No prob. Will be posting that recap thread soonish.
>>
>>1547055
Quality shouldn't be rushed bro. Don't worry about it, take the time you need.
>>
>>1544023
>>1547055

I would support ending threads sooner. These crazy long threads make phone-posting a bitch to read through all the shitposting and namefags going back and forth.

I mean, I'm not bothered by the namefagging during the tournament as it's productive at least, even if not really necessary. I sure do hope it ends afterwards though.
>>
>>1548019
/qst/ is so slow though there isnt much you can do to get rid of the threads faster. We reached the bump limit days ago I'm pretty sure
>>
>>1548019
>>1548029
Yeah, unless he outright deletes the threads after the session ends, there's not much he can do.

It's a dumb idea, anyway, since a lot of mechanics talk tends to happen between and after sessions.
>>
>>1548032
Eh, mechanics talk really isn't that much fun for people who don't have characters in the tournament.

Like.

Why even bother coming to the quest then.
>>
>>1548227
I dont know about you man but I had about 10 mechs put together for fun before I even got close to the tournament and have made more since then. It just tickles my autism the right way. Plus then we had stuff Wong occasionally throws in like the big firebomb.
>>
>>1548262
Yeah but in between every session? It does kind of feel like it's becoming more of a quest just for the tournament players and less for everyone else.
Like why not make a general thread on /tg/ then?
>>
>>1549840
>It does kind of feel like it's becoming more of a quest just for the tournament players and less for everyone else
It only makes sense it seems that way while the tournament is going on and they control their mechs. It's not like not being a part of the tournament precludes you from designing stuff that might end up in the quest.

Also did that one anon give up on the recap thread or is he waiting for this thread to hit page 10?
>>
>>1549840
Hive queen and A.I. quest did much the same thing but with bugs and spaceships instead of mechs.
>>
>>1549904
Also you can just do what I do and ignore the bits you have no interest in. I couldn't care less about waifus so I dont say anything when they show up. Other than liking sam is gay
>>
>>1549847
>>1549922
This.
People were designing stuff way before the tournament was even a thing... And people disscuss anything remotely related to the quest while Wong is gone... You can just ignore non-quest stuff.
>>1549904
Now I'm inclined to give it a chance.
>>
>>1550205
