This quest takes place in a hyper-simplified version of the DC Universe, where all your favorite iconic heroes, villains, vigilantes and vagabonds reside. Because of the incredibly complex nature of DC’s existing collective Intellectual Properties, this universe is a neutral, baseline interpretation. This means explicit redundancies, clone characters and multiverse shenanigans will be removed almost altogether.

You will be playing as Rick Regal, a 16 year old high school sophomore who has moved to Central City with his father after his choosing to relocate for work. Rick’s path down the road to heroism, villainous conquest or burger flipping normiedom is entirely up to you.

>Rules

You will be given prompts to vote over Rick’s actions and decisions in order to influence his path, and particularly challenging actions will require dice rolls and a collective mental capacity superior to that of a rock. Write-Ins are allowed and encouraged, but I am not obligated to use them.

Voting lasts until 10 minutes after initial prompting. Whatever gets the most votes goes forward. After rolls are prompted, only the first three will be counted.

>Dice
1d100, Difficulty Checks intentionally obscured.

No successes results in failure, one success results in a minor positive outcome, two successes result in a major positive outcome, and three successes make you feel warm and fuzzy inside. There are no critical successes, but critical failures result in a removal of a success.

The sun beats down over the nice suburban neighborhood that is Danville, rows of similar but distinct residences lining the swept streets along with freshly cut grass and thick, chunky slabs of concrete for your walking comfort and expediency. You adjust the ball cap atop your head, and respond to a wave given by one of the suburbanites with one of your own. You feel a shiver roll down your spine, and it’s not just from the cool October air. After touching base with Franchesca, you can’t help but feel like you’re being watched, what with that unnerving implication given just before you left. Maybe you should look into anti-psychic warding. That’s probably a thing that exists.

You shake your head free of those thoughts and continue down the way, having not quite decided how you’re going to spend the rest of your day. You’ve been meaning to have a talk with Cisco-- get him to work with you on figuring out what’s going on with the spike in crime across the city. He’s a smart guy, and even knows how to fight. Maybe some day you’ll let him in on your secret too, if he proves he can handle it.

Your footfalls bring you into a more industrialized part of the city, where the buildings are all squat and spartan, sidewalks cracked and friendly faces a little harder to spot. In fact it’s a lot less friendly all around, what with the harsh sounds of machinery going off in the distance and long, terribly lit roads lead down into rows of warehouses. You avoid most of that, and instead head past a lounging group of smoking teenagers, a few of which are vaguely familiar, and prop yourself up near the entrance of a featureless gray building where you imagine a sweat shop would be set up if that sort of thing happened in Central City.

You pull your cell out of your pocket and after getting past your own rudimentary security, hover your thumb over the screen.

>A. Call Cisco. It’s time you have that talk with him about information gathering. You should probably get started on that if you’re going to figure out what’s going on with the crime spike.

>B. Call the Costume Woman, Sera. You have to fix your helmet. You might even be able to give that watch back.

>C. Just go home.

The costume woman, or as the Flash clued you in on, Sera, is probably the only person who can fix that busted up helmet of yours. At least, the only person who already knows about it. You thumb at your phone screen until you get to your contacts, then hit call. You occupy yourself with people watching for a few moments, specifically those smoking kids you passed, who are now laughing and elbowing each other in between synchronized moments of sucking ash. One of them, a kid in skinny jeans and an undercut, points at you and says something you can’t quite hear. The others laugh, but eventually go back to doing nothing and working on getting their lungs that nice shade of black.

The blonde doesn’t pick up at first, much to your annoyance, but after dialing a second time someone picks up at the start of the second ring. You hear the squishing and poppling of gum being chewed noisily, and hold the phone just a tiny bit further from your hear.

“Hello hello, Vector! It is Vector now, right? Not Blur? Or have you chosen yet another name?” the woman on the other end of the line asks in a sing-song tone that somehow comes across as both comforting and aggravating. She doesn’t let you respond.

“Oh never mind. The data you’ve been transmitting has been splendid! You’re doing a super job, superhero!” She compliments you, though you’re starting to feel like she’s being insincere. That seals the whole ‘Maybe I can give the watch back’ thing, for now at least.

“Uh, hi. So here’s the thing: I broke the helmet,” you blurt out.

There’s a moment of silence on the other end, before a quiet sigh emits from that speaker at your ear-- slightly static y.

“It hasn’t even been a week,” the blonde wines, adding a groan to the end of the statement.

“I know, and I’m sorry about that but it’s part of the job. Can I get it fixed?” you ask, still watching the teens dick around aimlessly.

“Fine, fine. Just come to the meeting place we met last tomorrow, at.. Ten,” she chirps, before hanging up.

Wait, ten? AM or PM? You text the question to her and await a response, which comes in a few minutes as a PM with a whole lot of kissy face emojis.

>A. Alright, call Cisco. It’s time.

>B. Head home and get most of your costume on, improvise with covering your face for now. You’re itching for some heroics.

>C. Head home and lie down, take a breather and think about things. You’ve got time-- a whole lot more now that you aren’t going to be at school for the next month.

You turn the phone around in your hands, pursing your lips in thought. Putting the itch to suit up, get out there and fight crime aside, you settle on finally giving Cisco a call. You haven’t used this number very often, or at all now that you think about it. In fact, the person you’ve spent the most time sending messages back and forth with since moving to Central City has been Sera. You take a moment to wonder if that’s sad or not, before shaking your head and hitting call on Cisco’s contact.

One, two, three rings later, and Cisco picks up on the other end of the line, huffing and puffing like he’s trying to blow a house down. “Hey.. man..” Wow he’s really out of breath. Sounds like Cho after walking up a flight of steps.

“Yo, Cisco. I wanted to talk to you about something, you doing anything today?” you ask, toeing at a tiny tuft of grass that had grown through the crack of a sidewalk. You listen to him continue to breath like a sweaty animal for awhile, before he finally gets his shit together.

“I’m walking out of Carl’s,” he says, a little less winded and a whole lot more hydrated, if the crackling plastic and gushing sounds of water are any indication.

“Stay where you are, actually, I’m not too far from there,” you tell him. Cisco agrees, but doesn’t let you go just yet.

“Talk and walk,” he emplores, “I gotta know what happened at school.”

You push off the building you’ve been leaning on and start making your way towards Carl’s, a good ten minute walk if your estimation is on point, and keep your phone firmly glued to your ear.

>A. Tell Cisco what happened. You and Cho had a spat, ended up kicking his ass but getting suspended because of it. A girl got hit, Anna. Shitty day.

>B. Embellish. Have fun with it.

>C. Change the subject, ask him who that redhead you saw him near the school gates with was.

On your walk over to Carl’s Gym, you fill your excitable buddy in on the details of what happened. You tell him about how Cho got up in your face for no discernible reason, and how you had to the fury on him to protect yourself. Cisco seems pretty into it, at least until you get to the bit about Cho socking Anna in the face. You can tell he’s genuinely pissed about that, and his mood doesn’t exactly improve as you go on to explain your suspension.

By the time you arrive at the Gym, Cisco is practically yelling at his phone.

“--Bullshit, man, there’s no reason for that! You didn’t do anything wrong. Cho’s an asshole, but I thought he only looked for fights with people who act like they’re better than him. And fuck the principal, seriously, she doesn’t do anything but give two girls who fought detention last year, and you’re suspended for a month for defending yourself?”

You just kind of hang up as you round the corner, since you can hear Cisco just fine already. It takes the guy a second to notice you aren’t on the other end of the line, but when he does he frowns and pockets his smartphone. Cisco’s wearing a pink T-Shirt with some kind of japanese cartoon alien on it, and beige cargo shorts. A gym bag is sitting next to him, zipped up to keep the stench nice and insulated. You approach, he notices you, and you casually bump fists.

“No but for real we need to start a petition or somethi-” Cisco starts, tying his hair up into a ponytail.

“Nah, it’s fine. It’s just a month. I’ll survive. Plus I have a lot more free time to do what I’ve been meaning to do. Speaking of which, I had something to ask you,” you say, cutting Cisco off and nonchalantly broaching the subject at hand.

Cisco gives you a look, somewhere between confused and expectant. Still he nods and motions for you to go ahead.

“Alright, so, you know how there have been a lot more muggings, robberies, super villain attacks…” you continue, counting a bunch of crimes off your fingers, keeping the mood light by purposefully annoying Cisco. That doesn’t seem to happen though, as he’s just kind of paying attention. You clear your throat, “.. You know, crime?”

“Yeah, I noticed. Brother got stabbed, remember?” he reminds you, crossing his arms.

“I remember. How’s he doing by the way?” you ask.

“Better. Still not in any shape to move around, but he’ll survive. Anyway, get back on topic, what’s this leading to?” Cisco asks, shifting his weight and narrowing his eyes at you.

>A. Tell Cisco you’re interested in working with him on a little civillian project, maybe get some info the two of you can pass on to the cops. Of course, you’ll be using anything he digs up for hero work.

>B. Tell Cisco you’ve got powers, and you need his help. You’re no slouch with a search engine but actual detective work and research isn’t your forte. Also he’s smart.

“Cisco… I,” You start, placing a hand on his shoulder. With as much dramatic flair as you can muster, you screw your eyes shut and grip just a little bit tighter.

“I’m… The Flash,” you finally state, eyes shooting open. You watch for a reaction, but it isn’t the one you expected. Cisco just kind of shrugs your hand off his shoulder and sighs.

“Look, man, I’m cool with joking around and everything but if you have something to say about the shit that’s going on around here just say it,” he says, furrowing his brow.

Well, this is it. Cisco’s been a friend for the short amount of time you’ve spent in Central City-- the only real one you’ve made outside of maybe Franchesca. Cisco spoke with a passion about his distaste for crime across the city, and even mentioned the city needed more heroes. He’s got a vested interest in keeping the city safe, since he’s got one brother in the hospital and a few others he’d most likely rather not get hurt. He’ll be cool about this, won’t he?

You pull Cisco away from the road and anyone who might be listening. You lean in conspiratorially, and open your mouth to speak-- but your throat clamps up. You’re nervous. This isn’t something you should just do out of nowhere, right? Do you know Cisco well enough to just tell him you have powers? That’s some priviliged information.

Figuring your thoughts are only going to get more and more jumbled the longer you go on doubting yourself, you just say it.

“Cisco, I’m a superhero.”

>Continued
>>
>>1579056

He laughed for thirty minutes.

You timed it just to be sure.

After coming down from the comedy-induced high, Cisco wipes a tear from his eye and pats you on the shoulder. “Holy shit, that’s a good one, man. You? Dude you had a hard time fighting some fat kid at school. No, you’re not a superhero.”

“But I am though,” you protest, the initial feeling of offense having faded about fifteen minutes into the laugh. You just kind of want to get him to believe you so you can move on.

“Nah. Good joke though. I wasn’t in a very good mood, but you broke me right out of that. The Flash thing wasn’t funny, but that delivery was way too sincere. Thanks, man,” Cisco says, grinning.

You cross your arms in indignation, “Look, Cisco, I’m trying to figure out why crime is spiking across the city. Your brother got stabbed to shit as a result of this. I’m not lying, or kidding. Seriously, help me out here. I’m not exactly great at research. Just… look into it, okay?”

Cisco’s expression slowly shifts as he studies your face. His brows raise, and he looks a little taken aback by your sincerity. “…Shit, are you serious?”

“I’m serious.”

“You’re not serious.”

“I’m very serious.”

“You’re serious.”

That goes on for a bit, before Cisco finally stops being thick. Suddenly, he’s giddy as a school girl.

“YO! You’re a Superhero!” he exclaims, much to your dismay. You punch him in the chest, which he staggers back from. He winces and rubs the spot you hit, but grins a second later. “Which one are you? You’re not really the Flash, right? Nah, can’t be. He’s taller than you. Saw him in person once. Oh shit are you that scarf guy who broke Cold’s arm? Nah, he hasn’t shown up in awhile. Probably got merc’d. Dude this is fucking sweet I can’t wait to see you in costume. You do have a costume, right? What kind of hero--”

“Cisco, please,” you emplore, pinching the bridge of your nose.

“My bad. I’ll get on that though, looking into what’s going on. Don’t worry, this isn’t my first time around the block,” he says, grinning.

>A. Ask what he means by that.

>B. Thank him, then leave. It’s getting late, you should go home.

>C. Thank him, then offer to hang out some more. He’s done with his gym, day, but you could get some food.

To be clear here I made up all this shit as I went along but started to develop plans after the first session. Nothing big, just "Hey Wonder Woman should show up at this point" and "If these guys ever go in this direction I'll drop a big bad they could never handle and then toss 'em a waifu savior they could get the number of". Then I actually started planning. Then it felt like planning out work. Then I hated this.

Cho was supposed to be the son of a guy on the school's PTA board who wanted to fuck Franchesca, but I was gonna try and fool you into thinking he knew about your secret. Hint that he hates people who think they're better than him, etc.

Franchesca is obviously psychic and I would have stuffed her into a fridge so fucking hard once a big bag came 'round. If you didn't roll high that is. Had a few ideas about her developing more powers as time went on.

Flash was gonna die. Was gonna kill him and give y'all the choice to take his place as defender of Central City and join the Justice League, or turn your back on the responsibility etc. etc.

Cisco and his brothers were nebulous. I brought them up to juggle and fuck with you on who Vibe actually was.

You weren't ever going to meet Batman. I was cooking a meme about you almost meeting Batman but never meeting Batman. Just for fun.

The spikes in crime were the result of a city-wide conspiracy to get all the villains and their goons into jail and flood it, so that the more dangerous ones that didn't quite qualify for Belle Reve got pushed into there, which helps someone else out yadda yadda. The point isn't how it happened, you were going to get pushed into either a situation where you meet Superman and join the Justice League or get your shit pushed in and have Captain Boomerang-- I should explain boomerang.

Boomerang was going to either die by your hand and shift you onto the antihero track or be spared and lead you down that Superman road I mentioned earlier. Something about you mistaking him for the guy who breaks your dad's arms.

Sera was going to steal your information and put it into suits so you had to fight shittier clones of yourself at some point. That's one of the ones I was making up as I went along.

Anna, the blonde chick nobody cared about, was the real villain all along. And by that I mean she's a genuinely nice girl who was into you but since you were her senpai and didn't notice her, you had to be investigated. She finds out you're a hero and tries to use that as leverage to get you to love her. Evolves into Yandere speedster if you didn't squash that immediately.

I would have made you roll a 1d100 DC 90 if you ever got Wonder Woman in bed to see if you lasted for five seconds.

Aquaman was going to be OUTRAGEOUS but I couldn't muster up the fucks to keep doing this.

Shit that was about to happen: Cisco, you and possibly the Wonder Twins get together and look for shit only to find out the prisonbreak plan that I stole from a show.

That's about it
>>

Aww, don't feel bad, anons are naturally retarded when it comes to social interactions. Its actually quite easy if you try using your brain just a little instead of depending on a QM to spoon feed everything to you.
Flash said he'd take care of the suit for us and then this fucking cunt tells us he went back on his word and you cucks bought it hook, line and sinker . I mean, he trusted her enough to build a suit but not to help her with her research? That should have set off some red flags, enough to know that he didn't 100% trust her. Then she conveniently had a fix for us that was way too good to be true. Not even touching on the fact that Flash would have warned us about the price if she was telling the truth.

Anons really are bad at this kind of shit.
Same fuck up happened in that one harry potter quest. Sister with a history of disliking our character suddenly becomes nice and no one saw that whore backstabbing us.

I knew the metahuman quest was better, but didn't figure this would be a reason.
