Hey everyone, time to start running a Quest for one of my favorite game series of all time. Something I've been wanting to do for some time. There have been several attempts at XCOM related quests before, but most either don't last more than five threads or are dead on arrival.

I hope to change that!

Somewhere in the Arizona Desert.

"So, do you believe in aliens?"

You glance over with a raised eyebrow, surprised that one of your teammates, Rachel, suddenly speaking to you. She leans over, with a curious look shattering the half an hour or so of tense silence within the APC. There is a collection of groans and head shaking at Rachel's insistance of this particular conversation topic to you.

Sure it's been something of a tradition among your team, chatting about random mundane topics and the like en-route to an operation. Something to get the edge off of the possibility of getting killed and all that. But now? Having the one in a lifetime chance at taking down an extremely elusive and powerful drug kingpin? It's rather odd topic to have been sprung at you. As a member in the FBI's SWAT division you guess you never know what to expect, even among your teammates.

"...Aliens?" You repeat slowly, making sure you had heard Rachel right. She nods intently.

"Yes aliens! You know; little grey men, space bugs, androids. Space androids." Rachel starts, listing off a plethora cheesy sci-fi monsters off the top of her head before being interrupted by Charlie, another member in the squad.

"Skin walkers?" Charlie adds helpfully.

"Skin Walkers aren't alien, you're thinking body snatchers. Skin walkers originated from Navajo stories." Rachel wags her finger, correcting Charlie like a teacher. Charlie merely nods with an amused look on his face.

You're not really sure how Rachel knows so much about these topics.

The other squad members start to look over, curious at the sudden chatter. All except for Captain Nguyen who merely shakes his head, more focused on re-reading the mission details for the thirtieth time.

"Anyways yeah, aliens." Rachel continues. "Basically anything not of this Earth, doesn't matter what!"

You scratch your head. This isn't the first time the alien topic has been brought up. It seems to be the general talk around the locker room thanks to the recent increase of missing persons cases and spooks skulking about butting in around the office for the last month or so. It was only a matter of time before Rachel would bring it up.

Spooks would do that to you or maybe Rachel's just bored...

"Hey hey, you know him" Charlie starts, jerking a thumb at you. "Our buddy here needs to focus and psyche himself up before he lays down the law! Ask again later."

Looks like Charlie's trying to save you from Rachel's interrogation. It's appreciated, but will he ever stop bringing the 'law' thing back up again?

"It's just a simple yes or no, I'm sure he won't lose focus long enough to answer!" Rachel chuckles as Charlie gives you an apologetic look, he tried. "So, do you?"

>Sure why not, it's a comforting thought thinking we aren't alone out there.
>Nah, there's no way. If there were more life out there, we'd surely have found something by now.

You shake your head. "Nah, odds are too low. We're all lucky we've even made it this far ourselves."

"I didn't know you were 'believer', Bandit." Charlie says to Rachel.

Rachel grins at that. "Dude, I grew up on cheesy sci-fi B-movies. I love that stuff. Especially if they have big goofy monster outfits." She begins to mime a menacing alien, claws and all.

"Oh yeah, I can totally see Rachel in one of those costumes, she'd make a great alien. Utterly terrifying." Charlie appraises, looking thoughtfully at Rachel then back over to you. "...And our buddy over here can be the dashing lead trying to stop you."

"I'd like to see him try!" Rachel challenges you.

You're not really sure how to react to that.

"I bet you when Charlie would be the perfect damsel in distress!" Another teammate chuckles.

Just like that, the usual and welcoming banter once again starts up once again. Light insults and jabs and the like are thrown at one another, even Captain Nguyen is joining in for the occasional comment. The mood within the APC improves noticeably.

You spot Rachel lean back in her seat with a pleased look. Seems like she wanted the others to relax a bit before showtime. Looks like it worked.

The APC should be at the edge compound any second now so you decide to check your gear one last time. Besides the standard loadout that includes your sidearm, flashbangs and other assorted utility items like zipties and the like, You glance down at your...

SMG. Something that'll let you move around quickly and flank any criminal scum before they can outflank your team. As long as they aren't wearing armor you should be quite the threat.

Assault Rifle. Versatile and reliable in most situations except in close quarters. You'll be staying in the back clearing the buildings so you might miss your chance at subduing the kingpin yourself.

Shotgun. Not much needs to be said here, you'll be right at point breaching and clearing the various buildings in the compound. As long as your team can take out any Snipers you'll be moving at the speed of death.

Riot Shield. You'll be right in the thick of it with this. Sure you won't be fighting back much, but at least you'll be making sure nobody else takes a bullet. The shield also makes a great bashing implement in a pinch.

What's your primary?

Actually if it had a magnetic field it could probably deflect the plasma. Like how plasma is held in check by a magnetic field to make sure it stays as one cohesive bolt. Hell, even having a mostly non-conductive material as the shield and popping the magnetic bubble around the plasma a few feet away could make it survive a shot or two thanks to dissipation.

But yeah getting shot at in XCOM is badnewsbears.

You look down at the shotgun in your hands, well acquainted to the weight and feel of the weapon. You always did prefer close and personal to the action after all. If you’re lucky, you might be able to bag the jackpot yourself.

The banter continues undeterred as you finish checking your kit is in order. Captain Nguyen then speaks up, his commanding presence reigning in the team. A hush falls in the APC as everyone gives their undivided attention to the Captain.

"Alright you know all know what the score is. Emmanuelle Cortez has been a thorn in our sides for years now, and finally we’ve managed to get a solid lead on the slippery bastard. State Police have already set a perimeter around the outskirts of the compound, though thankfully since it’s so secluded we won’t have to be worrying about any interruptions.” Nguyen idly scratches the large scar off the side of his cheek.

“How many bad guys are we going to have to deal with, Cap?” Charlie asks, glancing over at the PDA in the Captain’s hand. Up to date intel and all that.

“Given how large the compound is, we’re guessing at least twenty cartel members including Cortez himself. Subdue them if necessary but I doubt any are going to be surrendering any time soon.” Nguyen replies. Having dealt with some of the members in prior operations, you’ve known them to be almost fanatical in their loyalty to their organization. Not your problem.

“When the operation starts, our chopper with our sniper support will pull up to provide overwatch, it’ll take some time for them to arrive so we’ll be on our own for a bit. Remember, some of our best men and women died to get their hands on this intel, let’s not waste this chance.” Nguyen’s hand tightens to a fist, a righteous fury in his eyes.

“Oh don’t worry Boss, we won’t.” Rachel says determinedly, idly knocking on her Riot Shield.

“We’re here, ladies and gentlemen.” The driver states as the APC slows to a stop. Without a moment of hesitation you all make your exit from the cramped interior into the cool Arizona evening.

Looming in the distance is the compound itself, illuminated by floodlights and the like, the cartel members unaware of your presence still. Nguyen is quick to divide out the team as you all get your bearings as you pile out. It looks like Charlie’s going on one team, specifically focused on securing the perimeter while Rachel is going to be with a team focused on securing the first set of buildings.

Nguyen turns to you, pausing for a moment.

“You’re odd man out, which team do you want to be?” Nguyen asks.

"Going with them.” You motion to Rachel and the others on her team. While you could help with flanking any stragglers if things go loud outside, you are best clearing the buildings overall. Nguyen merely nods.

As you walk over and form up, you see Charlie give you a wink. You give him a quizzical look back but he’s already moving up with the other half of the team as Nguyen leads them. As you wander over to Rachel she gives you a thumbs up.

“I’ll take the hits while you blast them with buckshot. Match made in heaven.” Rachel says casually hefting her riot shield with ease. Nobody expects the girl with the big shield after all.

By the time your team is formed up, Charlie and the Captain’s team have already moved up and split, using the cover of darkness to approach the compound. Your team follows close behind. They cut wide, moving around the site of the barbed wire fence encircled around the compound as your team moves straight to the front.

The first thing you notice as you approach however is the silence. The exterior of the compound itself seems empty. Not even any guards patrolling around the gate. Though, given how late it is, they probably aren’t expecting company. Idiots, that should work in your favor.

It's a bit spooky, though.

As Charlie’s team works to secure the area, your team enters the compound proper, approaching one of the first buildings closest. A one story affair, probably only a few rooms at best. You and the others stack up by the back door of the building, waiting for you to start the party. Rachel gives you a nod, waiting for the go as she pulls her riot shield and sidearm in a ready stance.

You take a breath as you mind focuses into a razor sharp point as you move to breach. With a practiced motion you kick the door open, the flimsy lock unable to match your sheer force of your kick.

The door caves in, being knocked hard into the room! It bounces onto the floor with a crash as quickly move back behind cover as another team member tosses a flashbang into the room. There’s a dazzlingly bright flash and a loud crack in the interior of the building as the flashbang goes off, breaking any possible concealment you might have had prior.

“Moving!” Rachel shouts, storming into the building with lightning speed as you follow quickly behind her. The two of you moving like a well-oiled machine. “Go go go!”

You enter the building, quickly getting a scan of the room. The place looks trashed, even more so than usual drug dens. You hear shouts of surprise and horror by someone inside, a cartel member huddled in a corner. He attempts to blindly fire a weapon at you all, but you have already crossed the room to him, smacking him hard in the gut with the butt of your shotgun. He stumbles onto the floor whimpering.

He’s babbling like crazy as you quickly zip-tie him, your focus completely on securing the enemy. You didn’t expect Cortez’s elite guard to fold like paper this quickly…

“Main room clear!” Rachel barks.

“Side rooms clear!” Another member says hastily.

You relax as moment as you turn back to see the completely terrified Cartel Member, practically on the verge of tears and screaming in Spanish.

Without even a moment’s thought you decide to neutralize the member yourself. A swift hit from the butt of your shotgun again is enough to knock him unconscious. Damn druggies.

“Smooth moves.” Rachel says with a grin before getting back to serious mode as she calls it in, the other members of the team finalizing last minute checks of the building before getting ready to move the next building. “Lead this is Coda, first building clear moving onto the next one—ow!”

Rachel suddenly recoils back, ripping off her earpiece as you all equally wince as your radio goes wild with loud static and feedback. You pry off your earpiece as well. The thing buzzing loudly even as you pull it away. You and the others have no choice but turn your radios off.

“The fuck?” One of your teammates says. That about sums it up.

“Well shit, maybe the Cartel bought some fancy jammer or something?” Rachel shakes her head, wincing as she rubs her ear. “Charlie and the Cap are probably on the other side of the compound by now at the very least, no way we can quickly link up to them and reassess without committing to it…”

You glance over from a window, the next building is only a quick crossing from here, and will put you closer to the main building where Cortez likely is. Though not counting your first neutralized Cartel member, they might actually be prepared for your team. Did someone tip you guys off?

"What do you think?" Rachel asks you.

>Stick with the plan and clear the next building, the others can handle themselves. We’re close to taking out Cortez if we do so.

"We stick with our orders. Wouldn't want to get chewed out by the Captain after this." You say, the other squad members nodding in agreement before turning to Rachel is a slight smile. "Besides, they might be your aliens, Rachel."

"Hah! Let's give ET a proper welcome to Earth then!" Rachel chuckles back, taking a breath and composing herself. Hoisting her riot shield back up to take point once again while you stick right behind her. The KO'd tango isn't going anywhere so you all leave him be.

Your team moves out of this building and towards the next. This is last building right before the main one in the compound. This time it's a two story affair, and the state of this building is in shambles compared to the rest of the compound. It looks like the roof has been caved in. Did a meth lab blow up or something? You all stack up and get into position. Once ready, you all begin execute another breach. It takes you a few goes this time around to get it open. Something is blocking it probably. As the door finally gives way and you step back as the team flashes the interior once again and you and Rachel storm in.

You quickly find out why it took a little bit of effort this time around, it looks like someone attempted to block the door with some furniture.

However, that's not what gets your eye as you all quickly rush in. At the center of the room is something none of you have ever seen before. A strange... glowing green... pod? The pod itself seems to be embedded into the floor itself, appendages on its side digging into the ground. Looking up, it looks to have crashed right through the roof and second story before landing at the bottom floor, like an artillery shell or something. It oozes out a strange green mist of some kind, and around it there appears to be a few bodies seemingly encased in a strange green substance, leading right up to the pod.

"...What the hell is that!?" One of your teammates says, clearly jarred by the sight. This is not what any of you were expecting.

"I don't care what the hell that is, clear the building! we can't just stand around with our thumbs up our asses." Rachel snaps, quickly falling into line after taking a look at the sight.

She has a point, no time to gawk, there could still be tangos in the building...

You scan around, shotgun at the ready. Then you see it above you, movement peering over the top of the hole in the roof, something quick and small.

"Contact above!" You shout pointing your shotgun upwards to the ceiling. As you prepare to shoot you hear something knock over as well as seeing an explosion of a white substance in the room above you, cocaine? Then, there's sudden bug-like screech of surprise as something tumbles over the hole in the room, landing on the strange greed pod thing on it's back and landing on it's ass.

You barely register the cocaine in it's eyes blinding it as it fumbles in pain on the ground. There's no hesitation as you pump the thing full of buckshot pointblank, turning into a grey and yellow pulpy mess.

"What the fuck is that!?" A teammate says in surprise.

"No time! Move!" Rachel yells, and you're already moving up with her to secure it.

The both of you reach the second floor as you see more of the tiny things, stumbling around dazed and blind, cocaine mist in the air. It looks one of them stepped on very large bag of blow.

You and Rachel don't hesitate to pepper the things with gun fire, downing them all swiftly and brutally. Whatever the things are, they can't stand a chance against your shotgun.

As they die, the strange metal wrist devices on their hand seemingly dissemble, exploding into fragments of metal and components.

You look at the pile of them, lowering your shotgun, barrel still smoking.

"Holy shit! They ARE real!" Rachel says in surprise looking at the dead little grey... things.

Your gunfire seems to have kicked up the hornets nest as you begin to hear gunfire towards the main building, coupled with the sounds of screams and strange sounds.

"Shit, more contact coming in from the sides!"

You hastily look down to see another small group of the little grey men approaching, having ducked behind one of the small garage hangers, behind some barrels. Your team begins to exchange fire from below as they return fire with blasts of bright green... shots? You hear one of your teammates scream in pain below.

"Fuck!" Rachel swears, moving over to brace her shield against a window and open fire with her sidearm at the things.

"Cover me!" You call out, deciding to end this next fight with the same speed and brutality as the first encounter. Their capabilities are unknown and you'd rather not want to find out or give them the opportunity to show your team.

Time for some Running and Gunning.

You rush forward, smashing open a window and hopping down as Rachel empties her mag at the contacts, propping her leg on her shield to keep it blocking most of the window as she reloads with her hands, putting as much fire as she can with her sidearm.

You hit the ground in a roll to the side of the building as the things take cover from the combined fire from both Rachel above and your squad, which you use as your moment to act...

Your team gives you more than enough of a distraction to close the distance, sprinting at full tilt as you start opening fire on the contacts as they take cover from the combined fire of your team, one of them getting winged by Rachel from the second floor.

You are right on them before they even realize you're there and pepper the first one with a blast of your shotgun, taking it down instantly. The remaining ones attempt to turn their wrist mounted 'guns' on you.

The rest of your team, seeing an opening, begin to focus their fire as you duck out of the way into some cover. Blasts of the green globs energy of shooting past you and impacting the low wall you hunker behind. You can feel the searing heat as it whizzes past your head. Fortunately, the little bastards are only able to get a couple of shots on you before your team manages to wipe out the last stragglers.

You quickly take a peek and see the group of the unknowns lying dead in the pool of their yellow blood. Glancing back over at the low wall, you note the thing was just about to disintegrate and give out on you.

"Tom is down and Jillian is hit!" One of your teammates calls out as you rush back into the building. There, you see one of your teammates dead. Moments prior still alive, now a very real searing green burn on his chest, the Kevlar doing absolutely nothing. Your other teammate, Jillian, isn't doing better either as she clutches her shoulder, gasping in pain.

The green blast of energy only winged her, but it was enough to completely incapacitate her. Rachel rushes down, stopping for a moment in horror at the sight, before snapping out of it. The distinct sounds of battle still being heard from the main building where you guess Charlie and his team are engaging.

Thankfully however, in the distance you can hear the distant whirring of your helicopter support approaching the AO. Unfortunately, with comms still down they have no idea what the fuck they're getting themselves into.

"We need to help the others before these damn things get them like they got Tom!" One of your teammates says nervously, constantly pointing his gun left and fro, as if expecting more of the things to pop out of the woodwork.

"If we don't flag down the chopper and let them know the AO is hot, they might get shot down!" Another teammates says, as she helps to tend to the incapacitated Jillian.

Rachel looks to you, still somewhat dazed.

"We have wounded and that chopper is our lifeline, we'll need to flag them down and get Jillian an extract." You say decisively pointing at the two other members, one of them being your nervous teammate, Jenkins. "You two go out and flag them down, carry her."

"Y-yes sir!" Jenkins stammers as he hastily moves over to carry Jillian, her arm shoulder still sizzling. It's taking a lot out of the woman to not scream and thrash about in pain, but she's keeping it together.

Rachel is simply staring at the now deceased Tom, you quickly move over and pat her on the shoulder which snaps her out of it.

"We're moving." You say simply.

"Right. Fuck... Right." Rachel nods simply, before shaking her head and gripping her riot shield's handle tighter.

On your go, your team rushes out, the injured Jillian and the two members carrying her moving forward across the courtyard towards the back of the compound where you came in. Rachel, the other teammate, and yourself set up positions to cover them. It's tense as you scan the area around you listening to the gunfire and watching the flashes of green light and muzzle fire from the main building, but thankfully none of the little green shooting shits appear to engage your group at the very least. You look back, spotting your team members having completed the crossing.

They set Jillian down as they begin prepare flares to flag down the chopper team. Jenkins nervously scanning the desert around him wildly.

You waste no time and the three of you start moving up towards the main building, the rest of your team can handle themselves. Scanning the dark corners and alleyways for any hidden movement. As you come closer to the main building. The gunfire from within stops.

Aside from the distant hum of the chopper in the area all becomes suddenly quiet as you three approach. Rachel advancing with her shield while the you and your other member moving behind her, weapons raised.

"Did they get them?" Rachel asks quietly. "The brunt of the fight looks like it came from the second floor, towards the back of the building."

The main building itself appears to have been an old school, once upon a time. It's three floors high and quite the intimidating building to clear with only three members.

"I see a fire escape to the side." Your other member points out. "We can probably head straight to the team and make sure they're alright."

>We clear the first floor and move up, we don't want the Greys to get the drop on us.

Either they're finished, pinned or dead, so in any case an extra few seconds of speed likely is less of an advantage than taking the ayy lmao's position from behind and preventing flanking. We're half a squad to and one of us is using a shield (I assume with a pistol as well?) so we gotta not get ahead of ourselves. Also what do we have in the vein of grenades, as this is x-com!

We'll be in the thick of it, but I think linking up might be the safer option here. We aren't Rambo, we need to stack the deck as much as possible before clearing the building.
>>
>>1580557
If the firing is stopped they're either safe or dead. We can take the time to clear.
>>
>>1580549
You currently have flashbangs and stinger grenades. Along with that you are rocking your shotgun, obviously, and a sidearm. Rachel does indeed have a sidearm along with her shield. Your remaining teammate has an AR.

Those'll be useful, suuure.

I'm more concerned about the risk to our squad than the time factor. 3 people doesn't fill me with confidence for being able to clear a floor without casualties.

That said, judicious use of our flashbang grenades (>>1580566) means it's not out of the question, but that would be a risky expenditure of resources that might be reduced or even unnecessary if we can link up with the rest of our team.

"We need to link up with the rest of the squad." You state tightening your grip on your shotgun. "They probably won't expect us going straight up the fire escape with how brainless the first bunch was. If there are any of those tiny bastards left..."

"Heh, I always hated climbing up ladders with my shield..." You hear Rachel mutter under her breath, trying to lighten the mood. The three of you climb the fire escape, this time taking point with your shotgun. It's rather difficult to move with the shield on point. You climb as quickly and as quietly as you can, though it is made difficult with all the gear the three of you are carrying.

You reach the top without issue and stack up on the door, taking a moment to listen inside. Nothing can be heard however. After a moment to compose yourself, the three of you breach. Your third teammate flashing in, while you enter as well.

The room is quickly cleared of hostiles as you take moment to assess the situation. You are in the main drug lab of the compound you reckon, the walls in some of the classrooms taken down and expanded out to make a large open area for the drug equipment. Strewn all about are the signs of battle, spent shellcasings, dark burnt craters from the green blasts, and worst of all, another one of the pods, this one also having crashed into this floor.

The air smells acrid, either from the green glowing pods or maybe the burning remnants from the green blasts.

There's a lot of ground to cover as the three of you move forward, checking the immediate adjacent rooms for anything, but finding nothing. Where is everyone?

"Visual on friendlies!" You hear your teammate say as you finish clearing out a small room. You and Rachel link up to the entrance of the hallway and spot your teammate by the front of the lab. You move over and take a peak to see Charlie and the Captain at the end of the hallway looming over a pair of dead greys, guns pointed at their corpses as if expecting they'd spring up.

"Oh thank fuck!" You hear Rachel say, lowering her shield slightly, your teammate lowering his weapon as well in relief. "Is the area clear? I knew you were invincible, Charlie! Cap!"

You join the three as well, it looks like they've secured the area, though they might have taken losses. Damn...

Wait a minute, something is right. You don't know what is and you can't place it but this is wrong. Very wrong. You hesitate, stopping. Rachel bumps into you from behind as your teammate advances forward.

"Woah, don't go freezing up on me!" Rachel says startled and concerned but she never gets to finish the sentence as everything going forward happens quickly.

With a quick motion, both the Captain and Charlie snap towards the three of you raising their guns, a strange purple glowing aura around them as they level their weapons at your teammate who looks on surprise. They look wrong, very wrong, their skin seemingly sunken in and pale, and their eyes a solid white. The fuck!?

"Hey it's m-" Your teammate never gets to finish that sentence as both Charlie and the Captain open fire on him point blank, magdumping into him. He's slain instantly from the overwhelming firepower.

"SHIT! BLUE ON BLUE!" Rachel yells in horror at the sight, but you're already moving quickly dragging Rachel back with you teammates open fire on you. As they do so, more of the little greys start pouring out of the room, this time glowing in the same purple energy.

You manage to drag Rachel and retreat back to the drug lab and slam the door shut as a green shot blasts right through it, making a large hole. You risk a peek and see both the greys advancing quickly and your teammates.

Outside, gunfire erupts as well. There were more of them outside!? As this is going on, you also hear the distinct sound of something entering the AO, it's not the chopper, but whatever it has you can definitely hear it has powerful engines.

You ignore that and focus on the more pressing matters at hand. Moving to the back of the meth lab with Rachel, bracing for contact as Charlie kicks the destroyed door in. He shakily stumbles in, raising his weapon at you. Behind him, hiding behind the corner you can see one the greys peaking over beside him, strange tendrils of glowing purple energy leading from it to Charlie. You can see your friend trying to fight whatever it is that's making him do this but he can't.

"Make... it stop! I can't... I can't!" He pleads as he opens fire at you, Rachel barely having enough time to bring her shield up to cover you both. He's advancing quickly and you can hear the chittering of the greys just outside in the hallway. You have to act fast before you're both overwhelmed. There's no way you can pop a flashbang quick enough before Charlie rushes you either, as you are both pinned down behind Rachel's shield.

"Get a hold of yourself, Charlie!" Rachel yells back, freezing, raising her gun at him but not finding the strength to pull the trigger. He doesn't.

"Please!" Charlie begs you, helplessly.

Horror hits you.

>You need to neutralize Charlie, though with a shotgun...
>Maybe you can take out that grey by the door? It might be doing something that's making Charlie act this way. It's an extremely difficult shot, especially with the shotgun. But maybe...

Swapping weapons takes time. If OP allows, shoot the sectoid with the pistol. Have Rachel shoot it too.

Why do people always think shotguns only work within ten feet?

Game mechanics.

Honestly I just figured it'd be far enough for a pistol to work better from this description.

As a heads up, I'll be waiting the full twenty minutes for all votes as this is an important one.

OP states that a shotgun makes this action more difficult.

Because that's the lazy way that vidya uses to balance shotguns with other guns, and it became popular.

You... you think you can make the shot. No way you were going to shoot your friend, not in a million damn years! You grit your teeth, aim steadied at the grey practically sneering by the doorway. Your heart races a hundred miles a minute as you prepare your shot.

Time slows to a standstill, as you line up the shot. Perfectly dead on with the grey bastards big bulbous head. Your eyes narrow as you pull the trigger.

The grey doesn't even have a moment to register what's happening as you fire, his brains splattering against the door frame in a million little chunks. It's the most beautiful thing you've ever seen. The purple glowing link of sorts shattering in the air, seemingly fizzling out like a short circuiting wire.

Charlie gasps and stumbles a bit in shock as the purple energy dissipates before collapsing onto the ground. You don't even hesitate as you feel a righteous fury for all the men and women among the team you've lost. You charge, letting out a bloodcurdling scream past a stunned Rachel right towards the Greys, doing the one thing you were born to do.

You lay down the law.

The Greys completely are caught by surprise as you burst into the Hallway, knocking out Captain Nguyen with the butt of your Shotgun before he can react and pumping a shot of lead point blank at the Grey purple-linked to him. The other Greys scree and chitter, recoiling back at your relentless assault. You fire again, plastering another Grey into the wall.

The Greys attempt to feebly recoil back but their hesitance is your opening as you blast another. And another. The grey bastards in full retreat. When you run out of ammo, you switch to your sidearm. Shooting the kneecaps off of one before tapping it in the head. When that runs out of ammo, you pull out your knife.

Things get a little bit blurry after that, and before you know it you find yourself standing alone in the Hallway, a pile of Grey corpses strewn about as if a bomb filled with buckshot exploded in the room. After moment Rachel stumbles out her mouth completely speechless and in awe.

"Building secure..." You simply say as your senses slowly come back to you. Rachel continues to stare.

That's when men and women with guns enter the hallway from the stairwell. They aren't who you assume your backup as you can clearly see the kit they're wearing is completely unknown to you. The soldiers stop, staring at you, covered in Grey blood in surprise.

"Holy shit!" One of them says in a thick Scottish accent, looking at the carnage you laid waste on. The others in the squad hesitate at the carnage before leveling their guns back at you, warily. Rachel quickly moves up beside you, shield raised and pistol drawn at them, ready to defend you like you did to her. You merely look on confused and mentally and physically spent from your killing spree.

One of them, a grizzled looking Hispanic man steps forward, ordering his team to lower their weapons. They do so, hesitantly. You and Rachel glance back at each other and back at them. Rachel lowers hers.

"...Who the hell are you guys...?" Rachel says slowly, fatigue and exhaustion in her voice.

"We're XCOM and we're here to help." The man says resolutely.
