You are James Baker, a wild card according to the strange man known as Igor. Over the past few days you have moved to the town of Birchland with your Great Uncle Carson and started school. You've started to learn more about the town and made a small number of friends. School quickly got weird as you learned of a crack leading to another world that you believe is tied to your own.

More worrying was during an assembly was the green smoke flowing from the crack(maybe it needs a better name) and the strange, impervious wooden door. Students and teachers at your school have begun acting stereotypical and forming cliques when from what you know it was a normal school before. Whatever these Shadows are doing to people you have to stop.

Igor and Abigail taught you the how to combine Personas into new ones. Martin and you had bought new gear from an army surplus store and Ms. Brown, you think, will supply you two with actual guns. For now you have survived to the weekend and have decided to try and contact Ms. Brown.

With the morning sunlight lighting your room, you decide the best thing to do is try to contact Ms. Brown. She never gave you her phone number, but the school website should have emails and numbers for their teachers. When you find the website all the numbers are just for school phones, so an email will have to do.

It takes a a minute to get the email typed out and you read it over again to yourself, "Hey Ms.Brown, this is James Baker. If you can contact me later I was hoping we could talk about the homework you gave some tips on."

Satisfied with it you hit send and head out to the kitchen. Your great uncle is sipping a coffee in the living room as you walk by. He gives you a nod, but doesn't say anything. For breakfast you grab a muffin and look out the window, sunny with clouds. There isn't much better weather you could ask for.

You sit down at the table to eat the blueberry muffin and feel you phone vibrate in your pocket. A quick check shows you already have an email back from a new email. TBrown@gmail, well that clears things up. "If you wish to speak with me more call me at this number..."

That makes things simple. You head outside and breath in the cool air, just in case you discuss anything and don't want Carson to hear.

Now that just leaves what to discuss with Ms.Brown.

Heading around the back of the house for the first time you notice the lawn is very well kept. You didn't come here to admire lawn care though, so you punch in the number on your phone waiting for the rings to stop. Then the voice of Ms. Brown picks up on the other end, "Hello this is Trisha, who is calling?"

"Hey Ms.Brown, James here. You just gave me your number, remember?"

"Oh, good morning James. What exactly was it you wanted to talk about?" She ask, though you hear of heavy machinery in the background.

Doing your best to ignore the noise you speak up, "I wanted to know if it was possible for you to get us into the school on the weekends."

"I should be able to, but some faculty and even students might be there. We might need a cover for why you and Martin are there."

"Do we need disguises like your plague doctor one? Seriously what is going on with that?" You ask while leaning against the back wall of the house.

Ms. Brown's voice takes an annoyed tone, "I have my reasons that shouldn't be a concern to you. We should be focusing on the task at h- one moment please."

The line goes silent for a minute and then she hangs up on the call. You do get a text message from her though "Something came up, just text for now. Give Martin this number by the way."

When you shoot Martin the text message there is an almost immediate reply, "wth dude? Is this a prank #?"

You explain the number is Ms. Brown's and Martin sends you a few Ok hand emojis and messages, "Ill set up a group chat"

With the wonders of modern technology having set some things up, that still leaves you with the rest of the day. The sun has only fully risen now and according to your phone it is 9AM.

Hopping on your bike you decide the best for now is to ride close by. It doesn't take long to get back to the intersection you looked over yesterday.

The pharmacy still looks quiet like yesterday. The gas station parking lot has a small number of cars coming in and out. Upon a closer look the job is for a cashier to work Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, all right after school to the evening.

The small plaza also contains a barber, a nail salon, a bank, and Vietnamese restaurant. The restaurant is looking for a busboy to work weekend nights, but the sign says slackers will be fired.

Finally as you ride by a neighborhood you notice a neon open sign on what looks like someone's house. Upon closer inspection it is a bookstore, but that may just be because the windows are filled with books.

You still have $66, but half of that technically belongs to Ms.Brown. She may not care too much if you spend it, but you never know.

The bookstore seems creepy, but something that was dangerous wouldn't be right there next to the road. You park your bike next to the building and step inside. Immediately you are glad to not be allergic to dust as the air is thick with it. Bookshelves and window sills are filled, book after book blocking your view of anything.

Making your way through the store you attempt to find someone that works there. The building is so small, how hard could it be?

After a few more minutes than you would like, you reach a front counter. The problem is you can't see anyone there, just a bell and more books. There also is a door in the wall behind the counter, so you give the bell a ring.

"I'll be right there!" you hear from somewhere. It sounded like a girl you think.

From the door comes a girl that looks to be about your age. She is breathing heavily, having just ran here it looks like. "Welcome to the Alice's Bookland. Is there a book you are looking to buy?"

"Not yet. I was just coming to check this place out," You admit.

The girl sighs and motions to a small display on the counter, "Oh, just like everyone else. We have a few special deals if you'd like."

You pick up the "Treasure Island" book and look it over, "I'm James by the way, nice to meet you."

The girl pulls another copy of the book from under the counter and replaces it's spot in the display, "I'm Sam. So is that book to your liking?"

Five dollar are fishing out of your wallet and you hold them out, "I am, but what did you mean by everyone else?"

Sam puts the money in the old looking cash register, "We don't get many people buying books here. They just come in because they think the place looks interesting then leave."

"I'm sorry to here that. It was nice meeting you and have a good day," You say as you start out

Sam quickly hands you a small paper bag and gives a small wave as you head out. The bag should make it easier to carry around the book while riding, but you still have the day to burn. Looking down at your phone you see a few messages.

You text the others for directions and Martin gives you an address with a message of, "Use maps bro."

With that helpful advice you open the map app on your phone and find the park to be on the other side of downtown near the town's edge. Time to get biking.

Riding your bike alongside the street is relaxing until you hit the more urban part of town. Even early in the morning, it is a weekend, and roads are pretty packed. A few times you have to stop because of the sun getting in your eyes, but it isn't too much of a delay.

When you finally arrive at the park it is quiet except for the noise of the rest of Birchland not far away. The park also looks fairly uncared for. Grass has grown through cracks in the path, there are pieces of trash all around, you can make out graffiti on the side of the bathroom, and the only bench has a man in ragged looking clothing relaxing on it.

You aren't sure when Martin will show up and Ms. Brown said she was busy today. But there is something you can probably do here to kill time.

You leave your bike locked and keep the book on yourself as you start to jog. The park's trail goes around the whole length. You have to stop every few minutes to catch your breath, but you feel like it is a good pace.

As you come to a stop at your starting point you are feeling the burning in your lungs with sweat rolling down your face. With your leg muscles aching you feel like you might be tougher now.

With your hands on your knees you suck down some fresh air when you hear Martin, "Hey man, did you run here or something?"

"Just some.. jogging gotta stay in shape," You say, noticing Martin wearing a dark yellow beanie.

Martin shrugs "I guess, I'm sure we will be fine just doing stuff in there though."

You take another minute to get a second wind, then you and Martin try to find a place for the meeting. You remember a picnic table off to one side and lead the way. Once you both sit down Martin texts Brown roughly where you are in the park.

Just a minute later the teacher arrives and sits on across from you and Martin, "I apologize for my tardiness, but we should get to business."

"Speaking of, what business is that?" Martin ask

You sit up straight, getting some shade to cover your face, "Well the first thing to worry about is getting into the school on weekends."

Ms. Brown smiles, "I have that covered. The two of you just need to stick with me and we can claim it is tutoring."

"Tutoring? I dunno, are they really gonna buy that?" Martin ask, putting his phone away.

"The only people that should be between the side entrance of the school are janitors and maybe people doing drama. We also need to make sure we get there during times the drama students and teacher aren't backstage," Ms.Brown explains as she brushes a bang out of her face.

"Once we get in there is also that stone door. There were two sockets and symbols for it, right?" You ask as Martin pulls out a small notepad and paper.

Martin sets the notepad down and starts to draw a crude map on it, "I can't get the map from my phone, but I have an idea. The stuff on the door was like a mountain and river, right? Well to the North were mountains and South was some wetlands. Our best bet is probably checking those places out more."

Ms. Brown strokes her chin, "The shadows in the other terrains may be different, but that would make sense of the symbols."

"Also not a big deal, but can we name it something besides the crack? It just sounds..." You pause to find the right word, "Gross"

"We could call it The Shadow Tear, that is cool," Martin says with a smile.

"Perhaps The Rift? It is short and to the point."

"I think rift is better, let's keep it simple."

"I guess," Martin says with a sigh sighs.

You lean onto the table and interlock your fingers "So when are we next able to go in? I feel like the sooner we do this the better."

Ms. Brown bites a nail, then realizes what she is doing and moves her hand away, "I'm very sorry, I don't think I can make it today. Tomorrow if you both are good I can get us inside."

Martin looks down at his phone quickly, "Sounds good with me, I'm free on weekends."

"I'm free after the morning. I have a thing I need to do." You admit.

Martin leans back off the picnic bench, "It's fine man, we all have stuff. So what are we doing for lunch?"

"I'll leave that to you two, I have to be going now." Ms. Brown says as she gets up.

You stand up too, "Do you really not have time for a sandwich or something?"

Ms. Brown just shakes her head and the three of you walk out together. Martin's and your eyes go a little wide when you see Ms. Brown put on a helmet and ride off on a motorcycle.

Martin speaks up once she has driven off, "So umm, I know this little sandwich place ran that has good cubans, sound good?"

You give a nod and start to go to your bike, but Martin points out a small bike rack on the back of his car, "We had one in the garage, figured might as well put it to use."

The car is still messy as before and there is a strong smell of fast food in the car. As Martin starts the drive and turns on the radio he turns it up as fast talking man is speaking "I repeat, call when the buzzer goes off and caller numba 5 gets a free pair of tickets to the Hillsburough Comedy Club."

"Aw dude call for me, will you? I'm driving right now."

You pull your phone out, "Alright, but where is your phone?"

Martin shakes his head, "Just pull it out of my pocket quick. The one closer to you."

Carefully you reach over and pull the phone out of his pocket when there is a repeat of the number and the buzz!

On call on your pre-dialed phone and quickly call with Martin's phone. There is a ringing, ringing, ringing, then you hear the voice "Congrats! What is your name?"

You heart starts pounding, then you hear a guy respond over the radio. You set Martin's phone in the cup holder and sigh, "Thought we won for a second there."

"It's fine man, thanks for trying." Martin says, pulling the car into a small building's parking lot among a mess of office buildings.

Martin takes a breath of the air as he steps out, "Micheal's Sandwiches. I've been coming here since I was a little kid."

The two of you walk inside, a few other people eating at booths. Martin leads the way to the counter where an older woman is standing, "I'll have a cuban please."

"I'll have a pulled pork please."

The women smiles and turns to the back where you can see the kitchen, "Pulled Pork and a Cuban."

Martin pays up this time and you both grab some drinks and take a seat. "Don't worry about paying me back, it's my treat."

You take a seat in the booth and take a sip of your drink, "If you say so, thanks."

After a few minutes of chatting about classes Martin gets your meals from the counter and places them at the table. "Hey James, thanks again for hanging out with me."

"It's nothing," You say before taking a bite, this is good. They got just the right amount of BBQ sauce and everything.

You and Martin chat as you eat, classes, games, music. You feel your bond with Martin grow...

"My parents are just going through some stuff right now. I'm staying with my great uncle for now," You say, putting the side of your face in a hand.

Martin looks down at his phone and groans. "James I'm really sorry, but I need to go for now. Guess we took longer eating than I thought. This is the one time I'm not free on weekends."

You stand up and give a stretch, "Its fine, I biked the way here."

The two of you head out after Martin pays and get your bike off the back of Martin's car. Martin waves before driving off. Looking down at your watch you two must have been chatting awhile, its 3pm.

Remembering earlier in the week you said you would help Carson tomorrow morning, so you probably can't stay out too late. You can probably check out a few places before calling it for the night.

Its a long ride to get home and you have that new book to read. You hop on the bike and get pedaling. The traffic this time is even worse, but you manage to get back to the rural roads without incident. Passing by the school you see a few people running laps.

Once you get home you stumble inside, your legs killing you. Even after all that rest you biked quiet a few miles and jogged around a park. Your great uncle isn't around to talk to so you just head to your room and give a "hello" in the hallway.

You collapse on your bed and pull the book out of the paper bag, "Treasure Island."

You've got all afternoon and evening to read the book so you take your time. The book is about a young man growing up in a world of pirates and treasure hunts. After a few hours you get most of the way through the book and feel like you learned how to better your CHARM greatly.

When you set the book down it has gotten pretty late. Carson walks out of his room at the same time you do, "Guess we got hungry at the same time."

Carson and you head to the kitchen to find a meal, chatting about how your days went. Your great uncle spent most of the day relaxing at home and getting ready for tomorrow.

Once dinner is ready to two of you sit down for some grilled chicken and green beans. Carson says his grace and looks up at you "So what's on your mind James?"

>Nothing, just enjoy dinner.

A moment passes as you think of how to word this. You can't just tell him, but you still want to talk about it, "I've got tons of pressure on me already at school."

Your great uncle sets his utensils down and looks you in the eyes, "James, don't be afraid to ask those around you for help. I'm also sure if you go to a teacher they can help you."

"Thanks," you say, trying not to go into too much detail.

"Its nothing James, actually as a matter of fact," Carson gets up and grabs something from the top of the fridge quickly.

He walks back to the table and places something on the table in front of you. When he pulls his hand back its a key. "This here is a key to the front and back door. I was going to save it for tomorrow after you helped me, but if you trust me enough to talk about school issues I can trust you this much."

Star Rank 2- House Key: You can now go out in the evening without worrying about getting locked out or having to call Carson and waking him up

You smile and tuck the key away in your pocket before going back to eating. When the two of you finish you help him with the dishes as another thought comes up, "Do you think you could teach me to cook?"

Carson puts the last dish on the drying rack, "Cook what? Can't just teach you to cook everything."

As you try and think of a certain dish he starts to chuckle "I'm just having some fun, of course I'll help you learn to cook. I'm going to my room for the night though, need to be up bright and early."

You are left to your devices as Carson heads to bed. Tomorrow morning the gang will be ready to go back into the Rift, but you promised to help at church first.

With no much else to do in the evening you get yourself ready for bed. Instead of going to sleep you get in bed and grab the "Treasure Island" again.

You go at a faster pace than before, wanting to get the book done tonight. The book is comes to a bittersweet end of betrayal and mutiny, but the main character comes out ahead. You think you learned how to better your CHARM from this.

Soon enough you fall asleep without the book stimulating your mind and have no strange dreams or meetings.

>9/10 > 9/11

Sitting up from sleep you look over at your phone alarm, 7AM. A little for your liking, but you can hear your great uncle already moving around. You grab an outfit for the day and take a shower to help wake up.

All dressed and looking like you are ready for the day you drag your feet to the kitchen. Your great uncle is whistling as he flips a pancake when he notices you, "Good morning James, I've got a stack already done if you need something to wake up."

Nodding you get a plate and some juice, eating your fill. As you eat Carson explains what he needs you for, "Now I know it won't be the most exciting, but your job is to make sure the donation dish is passed around and nothing is taken from it. Can't take a risk with the stuff in the news recently."

"Do people really steal from a church?" You ask after draining the last of your juice.

"Some people need more guidance in their life is all I will say about them. You can have a seat and be on your phone or whatever you wish while I do the sermon. There are a few chairs in the narthex, the room before the nave."

Carson quickly has himself a few bites with you. Together he leads the short walk to the church and you get a good look at it. The building is old, but there are a few obvious spots of repairs replacing older work. The inside is very well kept with lots of hard wood and stained glass windows.

Your great uncle points out a few locations in the church and how things usually go, giving you a basic understanding. As the time draws closer he hands you a small metal dish "Now will you be good to ask for donations on the way in?"

Looking at your button down, then at your great uncle's black clergy outfit. You can't help but feel under dressed. "Should I have a cross or robes or something?"

Your great uncle thinks for a moment, "Well robes you wouldn't be wearing if you were just standing out there. I doubt my usual service will mind you not wearing a symbol of the faith, but if they do just say you are my nephew."

"Okay, you can count on me then," you say with a smile.

"Glad to hear it James, so let's get in position and I'll open the doors."

You stand in the small room between the main area and the entrance as your uncle goes to the back. From above you hear a series of bells ring. Carson hurries back over and opens the doors "Welcome everyone, let us have a blessed day!"

Wow, that is a lot of cars that showed up in the meanwhile. People of all ages start to walk in, a majority of them dressed up nicely. You hear a few whispers as people get close, but those probably aren't about you.

With a smile and wave you greet each person as they walk by. "Don't forget to help the church by donating what you can. Every bit helps," you say as the families walk by.

The occasional person ask if you are new to the church and you explain that you are helping your great uncle out. You don't recognize any of the people coming to church, but that makes sense given you've mostly gone to school so far.

A few people donate money as they enter. You aren't sure if it is from your asking or not, but with people helping their community you feel your SOUL grow.

Eventually it seems all the people arrive and the small talk further in dies down. Looking in the dish the church made twenty dollars already. From your place outside you hear Carson starting to talk about everyone being there today and how glad he is to see them.

You relax in the chair next to the donation dish as the sermon carries on. You can't hear it too well with the inner doors closed for the sake of air flow, but Carson is talking about finding help in unexpected places and always treating your neighbor well.

There is a buzzing your pocket that makes you look at your phone, an unknown number is calling.

It buzzes for a few more seconds, but you are fine letting it go to voicemail. Ms. Brown's voice plays over your phone "Good morning. Contact where you are and when you are ready, I'll pick you up to save time."

Well that takes care of that, you wonder why she didn't just text you though. Your attention goes back to the sermon as it seems to be coming to a close. Your Great Uncle makes one final point, "Though we may not have the same interest or thoughts as those around us, we are all God's children. Now let us pray."

You remember that as your sign and grab the dish. Carefully you crack the doors open enough to slip in, the entire nave with their heads down in prayer. Carson smiles as he looks up at you"Amen, now let my great nephew here pass around the dish one more time for those that wish to give charity."

Handing over to the dish to the first person you watch it go around, there are a few stops as people add money to it. Eventually it makes its way back to you and you count it up as people begin to chat with each other and Carson. But you notice something worrying.

There are only 19 dollars in the tray.

You keep your eyes peeled as you walk over to your Great Uncle, but nobody sticks out. Luckily Carson is away from the others so you can keep discreet about it. You keep your voice low, "Carson, someone took from the offering plate. I don't know how much but we had 20 before I came in and 19 now."

The concern on Carson's face is obvious "James, this is very serious. Are you certain that someone took from it? Perhaps they took back money they donated earlier."

"Maybe, maybe someone needed it. But what if someone took money that wasn't there in the first place?" You say before looking back over your shoulder

Your Great Uncle sighs and takes the dish from you, "If someone truly did, the guilt will make them confess. We can't go around on a witch hunt and make accusations at people unless they confess themselves. I'm sorry you had to deal with this James, but it is how some people that lack the right amount of guidance are. I'm sure you have other things to be doing, I can make sure everything is in place once everyone is gone."

"It isn't right though, they stole from the church," you say while trying your best to keep your voice down.

Carson sighs, "You are right, it isn't. But without knowing the circumstances of the one that did it we are unable to know how bad it was. Let me also say it is not our place to judge others."

"Fine, fine, but I'm staying to help you clean up after people leave."

"If you insist James," Your great uncle says before going off to talk with a few other older people.

Pretty soon the church goers start to leave except for a few of the older ones. Your great uncle sweeps the outside while you are left to make sure there isn't trash on the floor or in the pews.

The process of checking the pews and floor for trash takes only a few minutes, the people here not slobs. It takes you a few minutes to return pamphlets to their proper places, but nothing difficult.

By the time you finish the last few stragglers have left the church and Carson is left on the steps with the broom in his hand. "Good work there James, I think I'm going to relax back home for awhile."

From the time it is 11AM, that still leaves most of the day. You look down at your phone and see a few messages

You text back you are ready, sending Ms.Brown the address of the church. There is an almost immediate respond of "K, on my way," from her.

"I'm gonna go hang out with some friends. Thanks for letting me help," You say as your great uncle heads back to the house.

"It wasn't a problem!" He calls back.

Only after a few minutes waiting does someone pull up on a motorcycle to the church. They hold out a helmet to you before flipping up the visor on theirs to take a drink from the side, "Come on James, we don't have all day."

You almost forgot Ms.Brown rode a motorcycle. Getting up, you take the helmet and fit it on. It is a little snug, but that is probably a good thing. There is one thing you are wondering, "Where do I grab on?"

Ms.Brown flips her visor back down, "Just hold on to me. If there is a problem you need to tap your hand."

Did you hear that right? You thought she might just have a sidecar or something, maybe a car.

Casually you hop on the back of the bike and wrap you arms around her "Sounds good, let's go."

The motorcycle revs up and Ms.Brown turns it down the road. The ride is pretty short, not many people out on the rode on a Sunday afternoon.

When you reach the school she pulls the bike to a stop in a teacher parking spot. You let go and take the helmet off, that was a little hard to breath in. Martin walks over from his car and whistles 'Woo, you really do ride a motorcycle."

Ms.Brown fixes her hair after taking her helmet off, "Yes, I don't go too far so the motorcycle is better for me. Do you two have your purchases?"

Martin nods and hefts his backpack on. You just undo your button down to show the second shirt underneath and small plastic bag you kept it all in. "I'm glad my uncle didn't notice me having a gut for the morning," You say while walking with the others to the school door.

While Ms.Brown gets her ID to open the door Martin speaks up, "So I've been thinking. I cataloged the enemies we've fought and started noting down their weaknesses. Along with attacks we know they have."

"That is good work, it should help us stay organized while in The Rift," Ms.Brown says, pushing the door open.

Inside the three of you go, the school dead silent like the empty parking lot made you think. Once in auditorium Ms.Brown ducks into the costume closet, "You two put your things on while I get dressed."

You and Martin share a look, but gear up. The gas mask is a little hard to breath in, but it isn't too bad. "I feel a paintball match reject," Martin says while looking himself over.

Ms.Brown steps out, dressed in her Masked outfit. "Onwards now, we only have so much daylight!"

A short climb of the catwalk later you three all drop in The Rift and find yourselves back at camp. Martin pulls up his phone to show off the map, "So what is our plan for the day?"

You think back to the last time you were here, "I saw some lights in the mountains up North, we should check that out."

Martin sputters for a second, "Y-You saw lights and didn't say anything?"

"Sorry, I figured we were heading back anyways," You admit.

Ms. Brown flips over the rock and hands over the weapons, "Well we know now, so that is our destination? I admit I never went too far from camp because I tried to avoid the Shadows."

Martin adjust his helmet and looks over at the false rock again, "So what about those guns?"

"No an option until you two have some training in a safer place with them," Ms.Brown replies matter-of-factly.

"Fiiiine, let's get going then. How do we wanna get moving though?" Martin ask as you all start to leave camp.

"We should keep a steady pace. Don't wanna take too long," You say as Ms.Brown leads the way through the brush.

The jungle is quiet as ever, your destination looming in the distance. Eventually you take a break while between the cage hill and stone door cliff. Martin wipes some swear off his brow and speaks up, "So are you still pretending to not be our teacher while in here?"

"That isn't something to talk about in here. Shadows could be around," She says in her still modulated voice.

You take a chance to pull the gas mask off and take a few deep breaths, letting Martin grumble. "Real colorful bunch of folk we go here" Atticus' voice echoes

When the break is over you all get back to trekking through the jungle. The path is getting more overgrown the further you go, maybe that means less Shadows too.

Sadly that though is stopped as a trio of Shadows come into view. Two tikis and a bird resting on the shoulders of one of them. They maybe haven't noticed you yet, but Ms.Brown isn't sure.

"Just go all out, they don't stand a chance," You say, summoning Atticus.

The others join you as the Shadows show their true selves. Martin points to them, "Two Slimes and a Wisp!"

Those names work, the melted forms and ball of light too slow for you all. Martin reaches out with his glowing hand, "High John, blast them with Zio!"

Zio? High John launches a bolt of lightning at one of the Slimes. That must be what he is calling it.

Ms.Brown runs up, Sacagawea forming behind her, "Take out the Wisp!"

The ball of light is ignited and knocked down and Ms.Brown takes the chance to have Sacagawea blast the Slime hit already. "Nice job with Agi! It's all you James!" Martins yells over to you.

Atticus fades in behind you, a hand on his as he waits your orders, "Atticus, let's try shining the light on that one."

"With pleasure, but you all need to watch your positioning!

The unharmed slime is engulfed in a bright light, getting stunned as you have Atticus finish off the other Slime with a repeat. You notice now you all spread out with vines and mud around, that could have made dodging hard if you didn't stun them all.

"So James, go ahead an talk to them or whatever you do," Martin says while hefting his police baton.

With the others having their weapons drawn you take your knife out, "Alright, tell me what you know."

The slime gurgles in response, "Guh, dleh, nrof nos sace."

You turn your attention to the wisp in hope of something more useful, and it does slight pulsing with it's lights.

Atticus puts a hand on your shoulder, his goggle eyes glowing. "Go die, North not safe. The wisp is giving a warning. No need to thank me for this by the way.

The Shadows melt down and you get five dollars from each of them. Not much, but easy to split up. "They said the north was dangerous and we would die," you explain to the others.

Ms.Brown stands up straight and looks ahead at mountains, smaller hills in front of them visible from here. "Well that shouldn't be a surprise, let's keep moving."

"Yeah, and now we know something is there for sure. Maybe we will find the person who did all this there," Martin says while making sure the money is safely tucked away.

"I doubt it will be that easy, but we can hope," replies Ms.Brown.

The steady pace is picked back up. As more ground is covered the trees begin to get taller, allowing you to see more. Most of the area is jungle hills, but in the distance you see the mountains and those lights again. You point them out to the others, a small series of light specks on the tallest mountain.

"We have our lead," says Martin with a grin.

"Let's not get reckless, we don't know if the same types of Shadows are here," Ms.Brown points out.

The temptation to try and get to the mountains as soon as possible is there, but scouting the immediate area is more important. You adjust you gas mask to show you mouth, "I think we should explore these hills more. Give us a chance to see how different things are."

Ms.Brown nods in agreement. Martin looks up to the sky, "Sure, more time to get information about Shadows."

Without a real direction to go you all stick to the edge of the hills at first. The rocky terrain means less trees, but a majority of ground is still covered in them. From the mountains you can see waterfalls flowing down sheer cliffs, becoming small streams as you pass over them thanks to fallen tree trunks. Ms.Brown is doing her best to clear the way for Martin and you while leaving signs of where to go. Hopefully her markings mean your next trip here goes faster, if you have to come back.

Your hearing is slightly muffled from the gas mask, but it isn't anything too bad. It just makes the usual ambient noise of the group walking even closer to actual silence.

The group comes to a stop as Ms.Brown puts a hand up and motions to the sky. Not far away there are three shadow birds circling something. They are circling down the path you were going to the west. Martin squints as he walks up beside you, "I'm not sure what is going on over there, but something has to be up."

"If they are kettling then there are a few things it could mean, assuming they are like normal birds. They could be getting ready to move out by using heat to get higher in the air, or more likely they are hunting. The question is what would a Shadow hunt?" Ms.Brown says, getting her gun ready.

"We have to investigate it. Let's just try to not been seen," You say to the others.

"Sounds like a plan. Stay low," Ms.Brown says before starting to sneak ahead.

Martin and you stay close behind. The trees gives cover from the birds above, but they are spaced out sometimes. Having to creep through tall grass makes you glad you aren't wearing shorts, but you don't think there are even any bugs to bother you in here.

As far as you can tell the birds don't notice. Eventually you push through a bush and finally see what they were circling. Another camp, the few trees around it all have the same paper tags. Martin whispers over to Ms.Brown, "You sure you never came here before?"

Ms.Brown sticks a hand in her mask before speaking in a not modulated vocie, "No never, this must be from the same person who came here before for the first camp. Maybe there is even another exit here."

The camp looks close to the original. Old tent, empty pit in the center, paper tags. The main difference here is the three Shadow birds circling over head.

Thinking of what you can do, a simple answer comes to you, "Why just not go in the camp? They can't follow us and we will be in a safe spot. We should still keep an eye on them though."

Martin smiles at your idea, "Good plan, my feet could use a rest."

Ms.Brown shrugs and you all carefully get inside the circle. The birds continue to fly over head, now letting out a few caws. Ms.Brown focuses on the bird to let you and Martin search the camp for anything.

Sadly a quick search turns up nothing. The tent was empty, the fire pit was just ash, and all of the rocks and dirt are the real deal. The occasional caw continues, but the birds don't get any closer.

"I don't like this. Them watching us like this makes me feel like something bad is going to happen," Ms.Brown says while keeping her eyes locked on the birds,

"Worst comes to worst and we can just attack them from inside here. Everything is fine," Martin says, taking his helmet off to get some air.

You give the area around the camp one final look over, scanning the edge of it. Then you notice a light in the trees. It looks like a fire. Slowly it all comes into view.

A humanoid Shadow wearing a lighter armor than the usual tiki Shadows is running at the camp, with a torch in it's hand. "Martin, Ms.Brown we have more company," you say as you point over to the Shadow.

Martin puts his helmet back on and stretches. Ms.Brown stands up and keeps an eye on it, her gun tracking it.

"We shouldn't let it get close. Who knows what it has planned!"

You and Ms.Brown rush out to meet it, Martin not far behind. As you step out to intercept, the birds drop down closer. Their mask fall off revealing a trio of sword wielding women on horses, a group of Valkyrie.

The running Shadow is quickly approaching, torch still in hand. "We can't let ourselves get surrounded!" yells out Ms.Brown

Martin holds the police baton in both hands tightly, "It doesn't matter if they out number us, we can take them!"

Luckily you know what Valkyrie can generally do, but this running Shadow is worrying you. The others tend to defer to what you suggest, so now is the time to step up and have some leadership.

"Ms. Brown, we've got these three! You stop the runner!" You call over.

She nods and runs past as you and Martin work to draw the Valkyries' attention. Martin waves his arms and shouts, "Hey over here bird brains!"

The Shadows turn to you with their blades ready. "I'll make sure you keep the speed up," Martin says as he quickly zips up his camo jacket.

You just hope Ms.Brown is safe taking that Shadow on her own. Keep your head in the game, people need to stand on their own sometimes Atticus' voice says in your head.

He is right, for now you need to worry about you and Martin.

Martin reaches towards you with his glowing hand, "High John, aid us!"

The root like man smiles down at you, placing them gem tipped rod on your shoulder. Once again you feel a surge of speed.

"Atticus blow one away!" You call out.

Atticus fades in behind you with his rifle in hand. Quickly he aims and fires at the center Valkyrie and vanishes again.

The Valkyrie that you hit crosses her swords, a purple aura surrounding her. The two other rush forward, slashing into you and Martin.

"Blast it High John!" Martin shouts, pointing at the glowing Valkyrie.

The smiling Persona points at the Shadow with it's bindle, a bolt of lightning jumping out from it and leaving the enemy barely standing. You take the chance to finish it off, "Atticus, finish it."

Atticus reads off another line of his book, the Shadow getting engulfed in a light and melting away. Valkyrie A crosses it's swords and it begins to glow purple. The other attacks you again, your jacket stopping some of the damage.

>James: HP: 65% SP: 83%
>Martin: HP 80% SP: 78%

From just out of view you hear Ms.Brown shouting, "Is that the best you got!?"

It seems like whatever she is fighting she has a handle on, for now. You are pretty sure that the glowing is making the Valkyrie's defense better, but there are only two left. Martin gets ready for another attack, "James, let's gang up on the not glowing one alright?"

Martin and you turn your attention to the not glowing Valkyrie, "High John!" "Atticus!"

The two Persona appear at the same time. With a pair of bangs, the Shadow is ripped into by electricity and bullet alike, melting away. The final one slashes at Martin, who doesn't take it well.

You feel the glow wear off yourself, feeling more sluggish. Before any of you can act again Ms.Brown is launched back into view. She quickly rises to her feet, not looking too well.

After her comes a many armed figure, with what looks like a face on the back of their masked head. It points at the three of you and you hear a voice come from it, "Die invaders."

The flaming Shadow turns their attention to you, "Now BURN!"

You better have a good idea here kid. Atticus' voice fills your head, reminding you of his weakness to fire.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nm4BjRYrsoo

As the fireball flies at you from the Shadow's hand your knees bend on reflex. On pure instinct you roll to the side, the fireball quickly running out of steam as it keeps flying. Martin and Ms.Brown take their chances to unload elemental attacks into the Valkyrie, leaving it barely standing.

You plan on paying back this burning one though, "Atticus! Kouha!"

Your well dressed Persona appears beside you, book in hand. He holds the book out and recites a few lines in a language you don't understand. The other Shadow is engulfed in a white light, but is still standing.

"James, duck!" You hear Martin cry out.

You duck down, taking your friend's advice. Martin runs up behind you, throwing his Baton right into the Shadow's face with a crunch. Smoke seeps from behind the mask, "You will pay for that, Outsider."

With your attention drawn to the Shadow, Ms.Brown is slashed at by the Valkyrie. Both Ms.Brown and the Valkyrie are looking pretty weak now at least and seem to be squaring off.

Ms. Brown is hurt badly, you need to help her, "Atticus, heal M-"

You are cut off as your world goes upside down. An intense feeling of pain burns in your side, figuratively and literally.

Martin gets between you and the burning enemy as you pick yourself up, "High John, blast it!"

The Shadow is struck by lightning once more, looking weaker now. You look around in your half daze, watching as Ms.Brown finishes off the last Valkyrie with a fire attack of her own.

Martin summons High John to aid you, feeling your reflexes speed up again.

You point over to Ms.Brown as you summon Atticus, "Atticus, heal her."

"Sure thing, can't have someone falling in a fight." your Persona say as he flips through his own book.

A green light surrounds Ms.Brown and she looks much better off now. She makes a fist with her glowing hand, "Sacagawea, tear them apart."

The stone claws of Sacagawea tear into the Burning Shadow as the sparks start to wear off. The Shadow looks to be on it's final legs after that attack, but who knows what else it has planned?
