(We're the Speed Duel format for a couple more days at least)
----------------------------------------------------------------

You are Gerard Xavier, a begginer duelist who's now approaching the finals of the Kaibacorp Begginers Tournament, held in Domino City in preparation for the Battle City anniversary tournament.

It is now Saturday, meaning the finals start tomorrow at 12. You've just finished editing your decks and were about to leave the Card Shop, when you were approached by some guy.

AND NOW, FOR THE THRILLING CONCLUSION (as well as the middle) OF EPISODE 8

You are challenged by Syun
Please choose a deck:

>Petting Zoo
>Cogwork
(Consult the Pastebin to find out the decklists)
and roll a 1d2 to continue.
>>

You move to Battle Phase and attack the set monster with Des Kangaroo.

Des Kangaroo does not Destroy Elemental Hero Clayman.
Gerard 4000 --> 3500
You pass.

TURN 3
Gerard 3500
Syun 4000

You set Tree Otter.
You move to Battle Phase and destroy the set Elemental Hero Prisma with your Des Kangaroo.
You pass.

TURN 5
Gerard 3500
Syun 4000

>I Draw!
>Now I've got you! From my hand, I activate E - Emergency Call, bringing my Elemental Hero Sparkman from my deck to my hand! Moreover, I activate Polymerization!
>Now, I fuse my face-up Elemental Hero Clayman with the Sparkman I just added to my hand to fusion summon Elemental Hero Thunder Giant!
>I discard Elemental Hero Bubbleman to activate Thunder Giant's effect, destroying Des Kangaroo!
>Battle! Thunder Giant, attack that set monster!
Sea Koala is destroyed by Thunder Giant.
Do you want to chain an effect?
>>
>>1601470
Activate baboon effect, shout something cool.

"You have angered the baboon!"
>>
"You have angered... The Baboon!"
You remind yourself why you became a silent protagonist in the first place. Nevertheless, you activate the effect Yellow Baboon, Archer of the Forest from your hand, banishing Des Kangaroo and Sea Koala from your grave to special summon the man-maiming monkey.
>New tricks, huh? Very well, show off what you learned, but in the end justice will always prevail! I pass!

TURN 6
Gerard 3500
Syun 4000

You draw.
>Meow!
You hear it clearly this time. IT's Rescue Cat.

Your hand:
Big Koala
Sea Koala

Your draw:
Rescue Cat (Pre-errata)

Your field:
1x Yellow Baboon, Archer of the Forest

Your opponent's field:
1x Elemental Hero Thunder Giant
1x set S/T card

Your plays?
>>
>>1601666
Who the hell took out our second kalantosa? We could rescue cat into blowing up his field right now if we still had two.

Summon rescue cat, activate cat effect, summon a kalantosa and a tree otter, tree otter boosts itself, attack with baboon, attack with tree otter, attack with kalantosa.
>>
>>1602090
Guess we could put it back but replace what?
>>
>>1601666
And use kalantosa effect to blow up his facedown.

>>1602099
Adhesion trap hole? Sea koala is better anyways.
>>
So I'm not caught up on the whole yugioh thing, but I started watching the currently airing anime.

How can we do sick burn shit like those trickstar shits?
>>
>>1602172
I play pretty casually, and I haven't been watching VRAINS or ARCV. But basically:
1: check the pastebin,
2: read what our cards do
3: create sick decklists
4: win duels to get us access to even sicker cards

and repeat until we can absolutely go off on fools.

Like with this last turn, we had a whole lot of options because our deck runs off of beast synergy.

We could have gone rescue cat -> uniflora and kalantosa -> Kalantosa pops his facedown and uniflora pops itself for either koala in our hand ->possible sea koala trigger -> attack.

and that's all pretty much just off of rescue cat.
>>
>>1602192
Long term are we going to go naturia? Or is there another beast archetype these days?
>>
>>1602390
Beasts are not exactly the most supported type, but what they do have is often pretty potent, and good Naturia cards are usually Earth-attribute generic.
>>
>>1602430
Yeah. Personally I think infernoids or dragunity are really cool. But if we're staying beast I can't think of anything off the top of my head outside of naturia
>>
>>1602561
I played Dragunity from the release of the structure deck to the Ravine ban, I'd be all for them.
>>
>>1602561
We don't have to go with an archetype name. Cards like valerifaen, shark cat, the raccoons, key mouse, lock cat, chain dog, and the unicorn, bicorn, and tricorn synchros could continue to push up the power of the petting zoo.
>>
>>1602673
Worst case we swap our Ayers Rock for monster reborn and add a bunch of non-beast synchros and run a beast synchro deck. Valerifawn + Phonon dragon would let us make Void OG from basically just a rescue cat.
>>
>>1602673
It's more my brand of autism than anything else. I like the idea of having a specific archetype. Makes me feel like it fits in more with the characters in the WC games and what not.
>>
>>1602740
Yeah, I don't need an archetype name, but I also don't really want to use junk synchron in our beast deck while if we have a beast tuner, you know?
>>
>>1602811
Yeah that's what I mean. The same reason why you don't make a Stardust deck when you're hanging out with Yusai, or a Red Dragon when Jack is your rival, it kills things a bit.

Still if Void Ogre is going to be the ace monster maybe something that fits it?

Ehh, not like it matters terribly much. The quest has been pretty solid so far and I can't see that changing.
>>
>>1602825
I like Void OG as the ace for all our decks that can handle him, and we can eventually build an infernity deck to center around him. But for now I want to hold off on putting him into our beast deck until we can summon him without putting non-beast monsters in our main deck.

Not that he's available for summoning at the moment anyways.
>>
>>1602849
No like I said this was all long term. Although the idea of machine demons is seriously cool.
>>
>>1602882
>>1602849
I'd personally like us going full Cyber though. Or Cybers + other Machines?

We can't do ABCs though. They're crazy broken for this early.
>inb4 we actually end up running a VWXYZ deck
>summon our VWXYZ Dragon Catapult Cannon against Kaiba's
Would be max hype.

Other than Cyber and Petting Zoo, we don't have much material for other possible decks. Buying more S/T would benefit us real soon before this final day ends. Preferably more Fun Police and generic Spell/Trap packs.
>>
>>1603105
We might be able to put together an okay plant deck.

Id live to do this though:

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=pg0k6G_ujr4
>>
>>1603067
A Jurrac deck could be cool, but we wouldn't be able to make a deck before the tournament and all but 3 of them are meh.
>>
>>1603144
>>1603182
I guess the best bet is to get as much utility cards as we can right now before the tournament begins tomorrow.
So Basic Spells, Basic Traps, Premium Pack, Fun Police, and Workshop of Wonders are what to go for the next time we're at the Card Shop.
Also I'm honestly surprised no one wanted to go for the Card Shop right at the start of a day, when the best packs are available and not sold out yet. Might have missed some good shit that way, but there'll be more chances for that later most likely.
>>
>>1603197

>Remember, if something you want is missing, we re-Stock every sunday morning!
>>
>>1603067
Well, these guys are literal demon machines, remind me of Cyber Dark Dragon. But yeah we'll have to see what happens long term.
>>
You activate Rescue Cat effect to special summon Kalantosa, Mystical Beast of the Forest and Tree Otter. You target the face down with Kalantosa's effect.
>Reinfocrements, activate!
Thunder Giant's effect is raised to 2900. You activate Tree Otter's effect to increase Baboon's attack to 3600 and move to Battle Phase.
Baboon attacks Thunder Giant.
Syun 4000 --> 3300
You attack with Kalantosa and Tree Otter
Syun 3300 --> 3100 --> 1900
You pass, with Kalantosa and Tree Otter moving to the graveyard.

TURN 7
Gerard 3500
Syun 1900

>I've nothing in my hand that beats you, but I won't give up... I'll never give up! Draw!
It looked as if sparks came out when he drew the card.
>I activate Miracle Fusion! I fuse my Elemental Heroes Clayman and Bubbleman in my graveyard to Fusion Summon Elemental Hero Mudballman, in defence mode!
>If you want to win, you'll have to get over this! Pass!

TURN 8
Gerard 3500
Syun 1900

You draw.

Your hand:
Big Koala
Sea Koala

You draw:
Ayers Rock Sunrise.

Your field:
1x Yellow Baboon, Archer of the Forest

Your opponent's field:
1x Elemental Hero Mudballman

Your plays?
>>
Seriously, fuck time zones. I'll have to start staying up to 5 am if we want to get anywhere.

Anyways,it's as good of a time to ask as any: switching to normal-sized decks - Yay or Nay?
It was the original idea and would require building far bigger and less consistent card piles, however it'd allow some more doversity and options.

Not sure if I want the change myself so asking the players.
>>
>>1604038
I'm okay with it but I'd rather hear from others first.
>>
>>1604135
Then I guess we meet again in 12 hours or something like that.
Jokes aside, a standing question does not mean you can't at least try to move the duel forward.
>>
>>1604155

Ayers Rock Sunrise
Special Summon Kalantosa
Effect of Kalantosa to nuke Mudballman
Punch with Big Koala for game

You activate Ayers Rock Sunrise, Special Summoning Kalantosa and using its effect to...
ERROR. KALANTOSA, MYSTICAL BEAST OF THE FOREST ACTIVATES ITS EFFECT ONLY WHEN SPECIAL SUMMONED BY THE EFFECT OF A BEAST_TYPE MONSTER
>Pffff... Hahahaha! I thought you a good duelist, but you can't even use your own cards properly! Hahaha!
You suck up your shame and pass.

TURN 9
Gerard 3500
Syun 1900

>Draw!
>Pass!

TURN 10
Gerard 3500
Syun 1900

You draw.

Your hand:
Big Koala
Sea Koala

You draw:
Uniflora, Mystical Beast of the Forest

Your field:
1x Yellow Baboon, Archer of the Forest
1x Kalantosa, Mystical Beast of the Forest

Your opponent's field:
1x Elemental Hero Mudballman

Your plays?
>>
>>1604177
Well fuck. Whats in our grave?
>>
>>1604181
Why Can't you read the last previous posts and rescue yourself on your own? The game's not a cat, it won't run away in a couple minutes.
I mean, I we are still in the begginer tournament, but it's due time to make this less forgiving.
>>
>>1601314
>>1601419
>>1601470
This could be confusing.
The set monster was Sea Koala, there is still a Tree Otter in the deck. I'm stupid for not noticing someone mistake card names I myself write, at least I corrected it in the same post.

Hint hint.
>>
>>1604177
We have rescue cat in our graveyard right?
We can use uniflora to pull rescue cat to pull out a second kalantos and win correct?
>>
>>1604203
We don't have second Kalantosa. Better remove that stupid Adhesion Trap Hole for it.
We DO have a Tree Otter we could use to buff Archer so he can break through Mudballman.
>>
>>1604206
...but you're not going to do it because...?
>>
>>1604206
Thats the only out we have right now, so do it
>>
>>1604239
Rescue cat requires another target.
>>
>>1604242
Don't revive rescue cat revive tree otter
>>
You Normal Summon Uniflora, Mystical Beast of the Forest and activate its effect by sacrificing it. You special summon Tree Otter to your field.
Tree Otter's effect activates, boosting Yellow Baboon's attac up to 3600 for the remainder of the turn.
You move to battle and destroy Mudballman with Baboon. Tree Otter can't attack because of Uniflora's effect, so you pass.

TURN 11
Gerard 3500
Syun 1900

>Draw!
>I activate Fusion Recovery, adding Polymerization and Elemental Hero Sparkman from my graveyard to my hand!
>Now, I activate Polymerization, Fusing Elemental Hero Sparkman and King of the Swamp from my hand!
>Take Flight, my mightest monster! I fusion summon Elemental Hero Shining Flare Wingman!
>Shining Flare Wingman gains 300 points of attack for each Elemental Hero in my graveyard. With Sparkman, Mudballman, and Thunder Giant, that's 900 points, raising Flare Wingman's attack up to 3400!
>Battle! Flare Wingman, attack Yellow Baboon! Shining Flare!

Gerard 3500 -->2700

>And that's not all! When Shining Flare Wingman destroys a monster by battle, it deals damage to that monster's controller equal to the destroyed monster's attack. Now, feel the power of your own wretched beast, turned against you!

Gerard 2700 --> 100

>Pass!

TURN 12
Gerard 100
Syun 1900

You draw.

Your hand:
Big Koala
Sea Koala

You draw:
Nimble Momonga

Your field:
1x Tree Otter
1x Kalantosa, Mystical Beast of the Forest

Your opponent's field:
1x Elemental Hero Shining Flare Wingman

Your plays?
>>
>>1604345
Summon Sea Koala, use its effect, reduce Shining Flare to 0 Attack, attack with Sea Koala for 100 damage for an exact kill for maximum disrespect.
>>
>>1604349
While also talking trash about his hero and how it couldn't even beat a otter
>>
>>1604397
Look, I know I fucked up somewhat with the bad play I did with Ayers Rock, and putting in Adhesion Trap Hole was kind of a bad idea in retrospect, but getting to disrespect the fuck out of a HERO user at his high point makes it all worth it.

Now we just gotta hit up the Card Shop then do some edits. Definitely ditch Adhestion Trap Hole for the second Kalantosa ASAP, and see what we can do with the new cards we'll get.
>Basic Spells, Basic Traps, Premium Pack, Fun Police, and Workshop of Wonders
>>
You summon Sea Koala and use its effect to change Flare Wingman's effect to 0. You move to battle phase and beat your opponent.

Syun 1900 --> 0

Although if we wanna save up the DP for the good stuff, I'm perfectly fine with ditching Unchecked Growth for Halls of the Gods, so let's go with that then.
>>
>>1604449
Fusion world is the elemental hero pack. Better to get 5 fun police and 2 unchecked growth.

Also, I'm not sure we should have won that last duel, since I'm pretty sure syun should have had 400lp left if we didn't activate tree otter effect, which I don't think anybody mentioned.
>>
>>1604505
Don't tell anyone, but I noticed and just decided to roll with it anyways this time (also I was not 100% sure on the ruling and did not want to waste time now). The canon anwser can be that the Otter was activated.
>>
Also, 9 gravediggers is an option if we want to start up a zombie deck.

First thing should be getting the Adhesion Trap Hole out of our Petting Zoo and put back a Kalantosa.
Decent cards so far, nothing that we can put into either our decks at the moment but any cards in our stock will be useful later when/if we need to make more decks. Rai-Oh might be good to throw in our Cogwork deck with 1900 attack and the "fuck your SS" effect, but Cogwork right now is as perfect as we can get it.

So far the only way we can get Armory Arm out is Junk Synchron + Cyber Valley, provided Cyber Valley is NOT banished but in the grave instead. If we have Junk Synchron and Cyber Valley in the hand, we'll have to choose whether to blow one of Cyber Valley's effects for draw power or "fuck you", or to set him and bait the opponent into taking him out (without chaining one of his effects) solely to Synchro up Armory Arm. This gives us more options and more decisions that might make duels more interesting.

This might be a longer break (that is more than a full day), but still please choose what to do. If this break prolongs I'll tell you about continuation on the usual place.

If anyone wants to catch up, now's your chance. I'd say goodnight but I don't think it's night where most of you live.
>>

You the man QM. This quest has a lot of promise knowing how yugioh can pull some crazy ass shit. Take care okay?
>>
Oh, also: feedback please if you have any. This is my first quest and I want to improve as much as I can.
>>
>>1604038
Yugioh isn't really made for such a small field and card limit IMO, decks gets streamlined down into a couple/one win condition and can get pretty samey over a bunch of games. I mean, how many games have we won because of the Baboon or Sea Otter, and how many have we won because of other cards? Plus a bunch of decks that don't have 2-4 card win condition combos can't really be used.

Jurrac/ Dinosaurs in general are a good example, it's more about being able to get big guys out easily, but you'd need like 10-12 cards (not including the big guys) to make summoning them consistent.

Though, would changing format also increase the Life Points pool? I think the length of duels we have now when we aren't having problems with time zones is a good length.

>>1604769
I'll support this >>1604777
>>
>>1604812
LP stays at 4000.
>>
>>1604795
I like what we got going so far. Duels are quick, fun, and loseable - the quest doesn't feel rigged towards either side's favor, which feels fair. We're also given opportunities to pull off absolute madman tier plays, and I also like that.
Characters aren't that good, but we've dueled most of them only once and we don't know them that well outside of how they duel and with what. This is forgivable though because the actual tournament literally starts tomorrow in-quest, and we have no way to get to know people that in-depth within only a fucking week, so the lack of development in characters is a given. Seeing more characters have their own opinions, quirks, etc. without diving too much into generic animu cliches is always good.
Having more options for our character's backstory through some dialogue choices or actions can also be better. He's a silent protag, but even silent protags can have character without speaking much.
I like the hints of deeper plot and backstory though like with Void OG, Rescue Cat, whatever Mokuba is up to, and that shit with the Duel Spirits. I expect you to do expand on that and more during the tournament - because as in most anime as well as Yugioh, the tournament arcs generally have pretty damn good surprises and reveals.

Overall, this is a nice beginning to something even greater. Good shit Playmaker.

New Deck:
Anti – Fun Police

Fossil Dyna Pachycephalo
Light and Darkness Dragon
Book of Moon
Nimble Momonga x3
Vanity’s Fiend
Cyber Dragon
Tanngnjostr of the Nordic Beasts
Tanngrisnir of the Nordic Beast
Resuce Cat
D.D Assailant
Doomcaliber Knight
Thunder King Rai-Oh
Jinzo
Kaiser Colosseum
Monster Reborn
Pot of Duality
Night Beam
Windstorm of Etaqua

This is a control deck centered around cards that are strong on their own. The beast engine is in there for our duel spirit Rescue Cat.
>>
>>1615456
I second this.
>>
>>1615456
We're using the Momongas, Cyber Dragon, Rai-Oh, Monster Reborn, Rescue Cat, Pot of Duality and Windstorm of Etaqua right now. I am thirding this deck, but only when/if we get spares.
>>
You can create decklists anyway and just swap which ones are active in free time.

We can make some small talk, I guess. Talk about the tournament, ask her how she's doing, that kind of thing. Afterwards, we could ask her for a duel, if she's interested.
>>
>>1618180
Lets ask her why she chose a Dino deck, since it seems that we ourselves don't get too attatvhed to our decks. We moved on from gadjiltrons pretty quick, and our new decklist >>1615456 looks like it has a decent chance of getting a lot of use in too.
>>
>>1618180
Do what >>1618282 and >>1618552 said. (We still have no love interest in our journey so far. :^) )

>>1618552
We haven't exactly moved on, that deck is still an option if we get more Cybers later. Keep in mind all our decks are exactly that - options to use against other decks.
>>
>>1619058
That's just the thing. Most characters, or at least sticking with anime conventions, run one deck that they modify, but keep to a theme. We are on our way to having a whole array of completely different decks with completely different themes. You don't see Jaden setting down his HEROs for D.D. just because he's going against a graveyard maniplulating deck.

So why do characters stick to one archetype, like dinosaurs?
>>
>>1619076
I dunno, anime logic? I think we should still keep the Beasts as our main deck because Rescue Cat, but have the Cyber Gears as a secondary because potential for summoning Void OG much later.
>>
You talk to her about how's the tournament going.
>Don't know. Winning some, loosing some, trying to do the best I can, even if it might not look like it right now.
>I just really like this place. I rest here for a while everyday, just taking a break from the rush of the tournament. On sunny days, you can even see the Satellite from here.
You ask about her deck.
>Why I chose my deck? Dunno, it was one of the decks offered to me, what else can I say?
You ask her about possibly changing decks.
>Don't you remember school, Gerard? They always tell you to keep one deck and always improve it, so that you can be the best you can at playing that deck and have the best version of that deck possible. Most people would never change their deck unless they had a really good reason to do so.

And this is taught to pretty much all people early on? No wonder. Nice lore tidbit though QM.

>>
>>1620607
>>1620606
No it does not work.
Yes Rush has to be set to be used on your opponent's turn.
>>
>>1620598
I think that we might just have to set the Rush Recklessly and pass the turn. Eat the 4800+ damage. Tree Otter + Rush Recklessly will only result in one Hydrogeddon kill, and leave us with a lone Behemoth in our hand. I think trying for a mulligan for either Ayers Rock Sunrise(to pull a Momonga, which we can then tribute for Behemoth) or Sea Koala(Polymerize into Koalo-Koala) would be best.

But I'm not the best at decision making. If we do end up passing the turn, we might get opened up for a finish. I'll leave it up to you guys.

I myself had forgotten that rescue cat doesn't have a once per turn clause. Theoretically, once the card shop restocks and we can buy more forest packs, and get more kalantosa and uniflora, we can have rescue cat grab a kalantosa and a uniflora, then have uniflora grab back rescue cat, then have rescue cat grab a second kalantosa and uniflira, then have uniflora grab back rescue cat, then have rescue cat grab our third kalantosa and uniflora, then have uniflora grab back rescue cat, then have rescue cat grab two more beasts, then sych/xyz with our field of monsters, turning one rescue cat into (probably) 12 stars worth of monsters and popping three of our opponents cards along the way.
>>

Someone explain this fucking card to me
> If this card attacks your opponent directly and reduces their Life Points to 0, you win the Match.

Why the fuck is that an effect?
>>
>>1621351
In tournaments, a match is made out of three games. Whoever wins best 2 out of 3 games wins the match. If you win the first game of the match by attacking with that monster, you don't have to play any more games, you automatically win the match. All cards with that effect (as far as I know) also have the text: "this card cannot be used in a duel." But if you're playing with friends who don't care about limitation text, it can be cool.
>>
>>1621391

Alright, we have four monsters in our grave so if we use Ayers Rock sunrise, we should have 3 in the graveyard and all her monsters should lose 600 attack. I say we Ayers Rock uniflora, then activate uniflora effect for the big koala in our hand. Then attack over her golem with big koala.

I looked it up and I see that we can use book of moon to prevent bottomless trap hole from working, but I don't understand why that works. Is it because the monster needs to be face-up to have 1500 or more attack for the effect to resolve?

Always busy, but I'm less busy than usual.

Check out the Castle Walls image name.

Also as far as I'm concerned a set monster is just not a valid target for trap hole, non-descript attack among others.

Yeah, the image name is what got me to look it up. And card rulings state that book of moon would keep bottomless from working. I'm just trying to improve my understanding of game mechanics so I understand why it works like that.

Nevermind looks like I cannot read. Yes we could have Book of Moon'd our own monster to keep Koalo-Koala. Oh fucking well.
