/qst/ - Quests

Welcome to PACYOA:TE's Operation Dogmeat thread.

For those who don't know, PACYOA: TE is a d100 game based off of a CYOA posted in /tg/ a couple of years ago, with a focus on building custom suits of power armor and shitposting.

This is a game thread. Unlike previous operations, this thread has no pre-game reservations. Anyone who wants to play can drop in as reinforcements.

As a player, you have two options:
Play as a power armored character with a custom-made suit and faction
-or-
Play as a premade Armor Corps grunt fireteam in mass-produced power armor

-The creation documents for a suit of power armor, the grunt units and the rules for the game will be provided in the next couple of posts.

If you are planning on playing as a suit, post a pastebin with your suit's build information and a callsign
If you are planning on playing a premade unit, please pick a name for your fireteam (preferred format: word-##)

For the purposes of turn order, cooldowns, and other measures of passage of time mentioned but not clarified in the rules, each GM post is generally considered both a minute and/or a round as is best applicable. As many actions will be accounted for as possible in each GM post.

Now for the actual narrative of the operation:

>Two years have passed since the initial worldwide invasion began. After many battles, humans have gained the upper hand and largely eliminated the alien forces on Earth save for a handful of strongholds. Mainland China remains one of these locations in large part due to the roaming enemy superfortress units in the area and lack of AC commitment to liberating the region. Two days ago the farthest AC outpost in China, Juijiang city, became a battleground between the AC garrison there and a large VA force. The garrison failed to hold in the face of overwhelming opposition, and an operation is being launched to reclaim the city and prevent VA from progressing further.
>What this means to you is that your mission is quite straightforward: drop in and kill anything not flying a friendly flag.

Feel free to discuss anything you like in the thread until the game starts. Despite using TE rules and details, this mission is not considered "canonical" in the "TE continuity", which means there is no plot armor in play; the dice will be played as they lie.

Carrier prime was ready. Circling in place and checking panels and hatches, the ball looked imposing for such a simple shape. Voices played over the speakers in the suit was the only major noises coming from it.

Tommy's male and excited voice came though: "Woooie! Can't wait to clear out TE's backyard! Always wanted a spot to test out land reclaiming tech."

Editi the AI was more reserved. "This might be the most dangerous mission we've ever taken...."

Tommy scoffed. "Oh please. We took on mecha cthulhu. We'll be fine."

Editi sounded distant. "I hope so...."

You're all standing on the deck of a TE Catapult Barge located somewhere off the coast between Taiwan and China, each finding your own ways to occupy yourselves before the operation begins. It was a simple enough job: drop in and kill anything that shoots back. You'd done it -hundreds- of times before. Still, the operation overseer's briefing hadn't inspired the greatest of confidence in you.
"Don't just drop in thinking you're gonna blow away the enemy like a stack of leaves like you guys usually do," the man gruffly explained. "We got enough data from the garrison to identify the attackers as the personal army of one individual we've come to call General Tso. These are elite soldiers; a lot sterner than what you've faced before."
The man paused to take a deep drink from his caffeine before continuing.
"We want to take the city back, ideally without flattening it completely like in the past. Try to keep your objectives in mind when you deploy."
A tap of some keys brings up a patchy map of the area on your displays.
"As you can see, there are two bridges running over a wide river. We've also got a major railway running through the town, several factories; those are the important parts. Secure these locations and push the VA back over the bridge. Take the enemy on in small groups if you can. Work together."

"Why is the HUD not showing up?"

From the outside, it looked like the Gundam-esque Suit was talking to itself, gesturing at nothing.

"No, Robin, I know- yes, I did try that." he sighed, the sound came out hollow and muffled like his voice had - the helmet's speakers were dead "You know what, fuck it."

He SLAPPED the side of his helm with a loud clang, emerald eyes flickering on, sputtering as if unused for a long time.

<W-well.> the AI's voice finally came through <I guess that works. Everything's green on my end, Boss.>

"Then let's get shit done."
>>
>>1632650

Tommy: "I'm not worried.Although I don't think the town might make it."

Editi: "I think at this point they say that as a matter of formality."

Tommy: "Well either way, we're going to show the world that General tso's chicken."

Editi is silent for a moment before the entire suit orb shudders with a massive sigh.
>>
You have your choice of deployment. Flying would be helpful, but the Catapult Barge should put you just within the operational limits. From there you would have to go by ground, unless you took the river route. You already know from the last reports of the garrison forces that they have anti-air coverage and probably at least one jammer somewhere in the area. Some things to keep in mind.

>>1632673

>"Command we'll enter the mission area via catapult into the forested area. Do we know whats the closest set of enemies there consists of?"

We've had plenty of encounters with General Tso's army in the past after our previous attempts to take Shanghai. The ground troops are guaranteed to be bipedal lights we call Blackshells. They're decked out with plasma weaponry. Balanced loadout, and usually encountered in pairs.
We've also seen heavier air units called Iconoclasts. They used to be encounter in Spain, but they've become a lot more common as air support units. They've got a tough shell and carry rail guns.
Also, there's the anti air units. We call them Generosities. Nasty crab-like heavies with quad gun mounts on the back. Bad news at a distance.
>>
TE Catapult Barges are simple in design. Ugly, slow-moving, floating bricks built for only one thing. Though they carry on their backs large railguns, the payload of their bombardment is not metal slugs, but suits. You.
It'll be an electrifying ride and a unique experience. A normal human would never survive being fired out of a cannon. Even for a suit, a 500km journey arcing over enemy territory has its own flavor of danger.

>Everyone taking the catapult option then? It seems everyone is aiming for the forested area.
>>
>>1632722

"D'aaaw, you're a real sweetheart." Falcon lightly punched the knight's shoulder "Just distract the big crab things and I'll roast them to bits."

"Guy's a mystery. Hard to say if he even has a suit of his own or if he's something else to the VA. He doesn't show up on the battlefield as far as we know; he has plenty of lieutenants for that.

>...
One after the other, you all lock into position between the forks of the railguns. Its not a deployment option you're used to, but with the city locked down tighter than a nerve suit the way it is now, its your only real option.
You hear a cackle of energy as the barge's generators force the railguns into overdrive to cover the long distance of the shot, feel the hum of energy running over your suit. Before you can even think to yourself what kind of a ride it'll be, the shot fires, and you're rocketing through the air.

"... I don't like the look of THOSE."

The silver suit begins zig zagging in the air, moving from side to side to try and avoit being torn to ribbons.

<Shields up! Point Barrier, ready!>

"Let's hold onto that, just in case..."

>-43 to dodging
>Gonna try and stay in front of them, try and take most shots

"Well look at this. I heard some action would be going down out here, so I supercruise on over and what do you know, there is! Fancy a bit more heavy fire support from the air? I can provide it for ya, but it won't be cheap..."

I'd like to join if I could, now that I've penetrated all the material and made a suit:

Falcon squinted at the incoming Suits - blocky, imposing figures "The bloody fuck is that?"

<LESS THINKING, MORE DODGING BOSS!>

Woops, got the pastebin wrong. Here it is.

You're able to deftly maneuver past the incoming fire, all but one shot at least. Before your life can flash before your eyes, it connects with your point barrier, deflecting a railgun slug off you and into the ground, where it lands with a small explosion.
You are within arms reach of the enemy mech now.

>>1633355
gunfire closes in on you. You dodge the worst of it, but a round nicks you; deflected by a point barrier. The shield breaks in time for a second round to clip you. Not enough to damage you, but enough to make you break a sweat at least.

Dang, been lurking last couple days but late in joining a game cause work.

The Iconoclast you closed in with deftly avoids your sword strikes with a grace that belies its large size, deploying his own beam saber.

>And that's it for now. Next time will have more speed. Sorry we didn't get along as far as I wanted, but some people are just born stupid and math is hard. There will be a 24-hour notice post before the mission resumes in the future.

Hey, sorry we just missed you. If you want, you can log your suit on the PACYOA wikia and keep a lookout for whenever the next mission will be. Unfortunately I can't give you a good time on when that might be. Sorry I can't give you a better lead than that.

>>1633427
Currently TBD but unlikely to be on a Sunday from me. There are other (much better) GMs that run missions periodically, though, albeit the schedule is a bit random at the moment. I'll at least try and get a thread up a day before the part-2 of this mission actually starts in case anyone else wants to join in.
>>
>>1633461
Nah, it's cool. I'd have joined sooner, but I spent like three hours deciphering the system (it sure looks intimidating, even if it is fairly simple once processed). I didn't even know it had a wikia. Opening the thread with some notice like you said would be good.
>>
>>1633484
The wikia is pretty underutilized, but its a useful repository for suit builds, so you can take a look around and see what other players have designed and "probably" get caught up on some of the story details if you're curious enough.
>>
Fuck, I missed another one.

Wew I thought you guys were dead for a while. Checked into the rizon every once in a while and only Wolfrie was there and was idle. Nice to see ya back online.

The pastebin info at the bottom of the page but if we're back in business I'd love to play my old character.

When I saw that the first couple suits were fortress carriers I was a little worried that the game would be a total drone-fest, but having perused the wiki a bit I'm glad to see that there seems to be a place for solo units too. My favourite build thus far is Blitzpferd, it has a fun, immediately recognizable gimmick that makes it awful in all the best ways (pilebunkers all day eryday, and it RUNS AT ESCAPE VELOCITY).

Are there any mission threads that are good to check out? There's a lot there to delve into.

Why is this one a pdf? I have the pages for it. Are there new things in it?
>>1632595
And what's this? Can I just get the pages for it too? Pdfs don't work on my computer.
