Katta comes inside like a ghost, gliding through the air as if he weighed nothing. You're forced to move your stance at the unexpected speed of his approach and use your muscle to push off his first slice at your shoulder.

Pulling back you blade you attempt to counter and put your pupil on the backfoot. Instead you recieve a cut to your hand as Katta moves his grip and recovers faster than you.

You bare your teeth and barge forward, hoping for a stagger. Your opponent's slight frame gives you an advantage in brute force and the seperation you crate allows you to throw a series of attacks at the black haired swordsman.

His skill is tremendous, no matter how you mix up your attacks or push your speed and strength - his blade is always there. Singing out no matter how you pound on it. You get the sense Katta is drawing back and taking your measure, so you don't know how long until he decides to take control of this bout again.

You seemingly disapear before him, your kimono fluttering as you're suddenly behind him. He gasps just before you blade bites into his shoulder; only for his desperate attempt to create distance be found wanting.

A wild swing and backpedal is all he offers, allowing you to duck it and swish past him in one dash that lets you cut his side as you pass. Blood spurts as the shining blade cuts a little deeper than you'd like, staining your dojo's mats with your disciple's blood.

"You are definently a better swordsman than I am." You muse out loud as Katta falls to a knee, "If I wasn't faster and stronger - you'd have cut me to ribbons."

The other two begin finding a knee, "Nion, you need to find your killer instinct. You're quick and I think stronger than I saw... but without a head for battle you wont' achieve much in a fight."

You look at the giant, equalling your six plus feet while on one knee, "Gronamura, that isn't a club you have. So I want you to think if you want to fight with a weapon or your fists. When we next meet we'll decide if you'll be using a blade or those hands of yours from now on."

"Yes Sensei." All three say in turn.

You look over your "class" a black haired enigma of a swordsman, a lady thief who seems excitable yet lazy, and a giant. Who really doesn't seem to have anything beyond his size about him thus far.

What does a sensei do next?

You take a seat on the cushion and cross your legs, enjoying the plesant feel of a workout as you take a load off your muscles; "I'd like to tell you a story before you go. A story about a boulder in a path." You clear your throat, looking at the bored face of Gonamura... Nion and Katta however, are enraptured."In ancient times, a King had a boulder placed on a roadway. Then he watched to see if anyone would remove the huge rock. Some of the king's wealthiest merchants and courtiers came by and simply walked around it. Some even loudly blamed the king for not keeping the roads clear." Gonamura looks interested the minute your voice begins to harden at these nobles' hubris, "but not a single one did anything about getting the stone out of the way."

You lean forward, noticing the trio of pupils do the same, "Until a peasant came along carrying on his back a burden of food for his family. Upon approaching the boulder, the peasant laid down his heavy, heavy load and tried to move the stone to the side of the road." You look solemn and shut your eyes, losing yourself in your message, "At first he could not move it, for he was not strong. He tried again and could find no purchase. But he continued to try again and again to remove the boulder from the path.""After much pushing and straining, he finally succeeded. With a grunt, the boulder was removed from the path. The peasant was caked in sweat and his palms were cut, but he smiled at his sucess and knew he had done good. After the peasant picked up his load of vegetables, he noticed a coinpurse lying in the road where the boulder had been. The purse contained many gold coins and a note from the king indicating that the gold was for the person who removed the boulder from the roadway. The peasant learned what many of us never understand. Every obstacle presents an opportunity to improve our condition." You nod in satisfaction, not realizing at some point you had adopted an almost meditative kneel in the cushion you'd been sitting on. This strange place's habits are really rubbing off on you."Well today what I want you all to know is that God can and will put obstacles in your path. But with determination, dedication, faith and perserverance... you can overcome them and thrive." You look hard at each of them in turn; Nion looks inspired - Gonamura is thinking harder than you suspect he ever has, complete with scratching chin - Katta's eye contact is unflinching and caluclating as it always is. "Now go about your days. Think on what I have said and shown you. For now I am your boulder, you must move me to reach your true strength." You make a dismissive gesture and all three bow low from their kneeling position.

"Yes Sensei." They murmur.

"Go with God." You return as they begin to head off, leaving you alone with your thoughts.

You decide to take a walk out of the camp with some kind of meaty bun type food in hand. Enjoying it like you'd enjoy walking around with a hotdog on a summer day...

Huh, maybe you were American in life? I mean, you look as Asian as these people except for the crimson hair and your tall build... but that image slipped into your mind easily.

It's kind of gloomy now, as the afternoon is slipping away in a tide of busywork; a few bandits are sparring... you notice a few of them shooting glances over their shoulder as they swing in huge unwieldy arc while shouting "HWUAH! HO! HWUAH!"

Seems the knowledge of your testing process has spurred on those who didn't make it to improve themselves. Good. Maybe once the trio you have now "graduate" you'll have a plethora of candidates to take their place.

Despite the grim weather, you find the tavern and surrounding buildings buzzing with chat and socialising. The wolf creature you've noticed before seems a bit halting and almost shy, but his joke has just caused his comrades to laugh out loud. His tale wags slightly.

Adorable.

The only one with anything remotely negative on their expression is the black haired guy who seems to hate you.

He's standing apart form the rest, waiting on Lady Thievery...

Mary mother of our Lord he has a face designed to be a villain doesn't he?

You decide to cross the yard to where the crowd around the wolfman is dispersing with smiles and warm feelings.

"Hello." You greet him politely, "How are you doing?"

He bows to you with wide eyes and flat ears, "Good afternoon sensei, my day has been quite pleasant."

"Good." You beam at him trying to put him more at ease, "I was wondering how you've enjoyed life around here?"

"Uhm well. I like it Sensei?" He frowns, "I don't have to kill people very often anymore. Only people who mess with us, plus I don't have to deal with or intimidate poeple outside of our own."

"So you like the peace and quiet?" You try to play up your curiosity as much as you can, "Surely you'd rather live in a viallge and be peaceful right?"

He picks at his neck, "Not particularly Sensei. Even in peaceful villages people tend to hate people like me."

"What, your people are persecuted?" You ask. Everything you know tells you that the afterlife was supposed to free everyone of mortal worries, in fact a rock solid certainty of yours was that discrimination and persecution would be gone upon death. This wolf is just the latest evidence of disagreement with that.

"Yeah." He admits looking down at sakahone, "Everywhere you go, no matter what district of the Rukongai you ask; us animal people are considered "cursed." He snorts, "Ridiculous isn't it? We're still every bit the soul as everyone else - even if we look different."

"Why do they think you're cursed?" Is the only question you can come up with as you sit on the low wall he's standing beside.

"They never have any reason except, the word of the last elder - who only has the words of the last elder - and from then on it's tradition and folklore isn't it?" A bit of an edge has come into his voice and in fact you hear a slight accent.

> Hey the bible says that the persecuted shall prsoper. One day you'll be able to show them you're not cursed.

> Well it led to you finding acceptance elsewhere didn't it? No big loss?

> You should give sakahone a chance, there's good people there.

"Well. I always believe what the bible says Wolf." You begin, "IT says that one day the oppressed, the honest, the just and the meek shall inherit the Earth."

"Um."

"Look I know we're not on Earth anymore, but the concept is the same." You put a hand on his shoulder as you stand up, "Whatever hardships you've suffered have made you a better and stronger person. They've shaped your personality. When the time comes, it won't be those pampered throughout their days who will suceed; when the chips are down it's the people who know how to struggle and sacrifice that will suceed." You offer him the closest you can get to a warm beaming smile, while you're not exactly priestly, God puts the words in your mouth and you just have to spout his wisdom in a way people can understand.

Then they will know his word and Love.

"Thanks Sensei." He sniffs...

Oh.

OH.

He's crying.

"That's the nicest thing anyone's ever said to me." The day a wolfman cries and tries to dab his wet cheeks with a paw... something you never thought would come. "I'll keep being me and be better, just you wait! I'm not going to let other people make me afraid no more, you hear?"

"Yes I-"

You want to vomit.
The entire world just massively increased in weight. Air is oppressive. Breathing is almost impossible.

Wolf collapses on the ground totally unconcious and you can see the majority of the bandits doing the same. Those who don't are like you, wading through the yard as if underwater, drawing swords in slow motion and unable to find the air to raise cries of alarm.

Lady Thievery emerges, her makeup running down her face in rivers as she streams sweat. Her eyes are wide and blodhshot as she begins directing her forces as best she can silently... A pair of blue eyes peek around the door frame unseen by her side; the little girl looking remarkably unfased.

Is this her power?

"Hello!" A friendly voice calls out somewhere behind you. "I'm looking for my little sister!"

You turn, just as Katta comes stumbling to your side, his usual facade of calm and stoicism totally broken by this horrible sensation.

A man with a bright smile and white hair stands at the top of the road, hands folded behind his back over a sheathed sword.

Lucifer, what the fuck is going on?

You think frantically as you force yourself to your full height and look at the man's smiling face.

I think in common terms; this man is overpowered

Lucifer says, for once his common polite tone sounds strained and nervous.

What do I do?

A beat.

Whatever he says.

Is all he gives you.

If I can't?

Pause

Then I'll regret not having more time with you.

With a pained grunt you try to rise to full height and face the man, resisting the unholy gravity with all of your might. It is not a pretty sight whatsoever, the pain forces you to bear your teeth and shut your eyes for focus.

But you manage one step before collapsing in a heap, a feat which is acknowledged by the stranger with a glance. He looks confused for a second and then he laughs nervously and... just like that the rending of this world is gone.

"So sorry about that. I've been spending some time with my friend before heaidng out and-" He sotps suddenly as if chiding himself, "I humbly apologise," He says once he righted himself. "I should know better than to let it seep out like that."

"Th-that was your soul power?" Is all you can stammer.

"A sliver of it. Around one percent." Something you've said makes him pause, "Are you the new sensei of this Lady Thievery I've heard about?"

"Yes I am." You assert trying to look somewhat presentable, the man has been respectful if a little carefree. Despite his staggering power he seems willing to treat you as an equal. "You said you were looking for your sister."

"Exactly." He gives you a warm smile. "Have you heard of a Sukāretto Ukitake?"

You look at him puzzled, "My name's Sukāretto Sutorenjā..."

He blinks twice, "Mother didn't... but she..." The gears turn in his head, "Let me start over I'm-"

"You dare trespass on the ground sof Lady Thievery! You shall pay for your indiscretion!" Kokatsuna says, pointing at im imperiously, "You shall pay dearly!"

"Friends of yours?" He says warmly, one hand running through his hair in exasperation.

Bandits begin to close in, almost at a charge swords drawn and you're faced with a choice.
